Toshiba Satellite A300 repair

Question: Toshiba Satellite A300 repair

I took apart my old laptop and this first pictured "power cable" bike. I cannot figure out where it connects. I put the laptop back together and it works fine. Does anyone know where this cord could connect to?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Toshiba Satellite A300 repair

Was it connected to anything before? Looks like it has something to do with the fan - possibly speed regulator.

hi guys i would just like to ask some advice i've been offered the chance of a laptop but before i part with the cash i'd like some opinions on the laptop 1st TOSHIBA SATELLITE A300 1MCIntel(r)core(tm)2 duo cpu T5800 @2.00GHz 2.00GHzRAM: 2940system type : 32-bit o/s windows vista so is it a good laptop ??????

Answer:TOSHIBA SATELLITE A300

That depends on the cost and also on how you wish to use the laptop. The RAM seems ok, I think the most that a 32bit system will recognise is about 3.25gb or RAM.

Hi there this is my first post would like to say hi. I have 7 installed on my desktop and Im loving it so far. I wish it were the same for my laptop though..

Its a Toshiba A300 (model PSAG4C-05U01C) it came pre-loaded with vista 64 and did not come with any driver/or refresh cd whatsoever.

I would like to do a clean install of 7, but im not sure if I'll have driver issues with this hardware. I cant seem to find anything specifically for 7, can someone point me to the right direction pls?

Also theres seems to be the odd time ill run into the odd app that only runs on 32bit. Would you guys recommend using a 32bit version? or is it better to stick with 64 w/ this laptop?

thanks

Answer:Toshiba Satellite A300

A quick look at your system specs: I would say it should run Windows 7 just fine. I would go with 64bit that is the wave of the future. Many 32bit older applications will run on Windows 7 x64, however there are some that just don't work.

Answer:Re install wxp on a toshiba satellite pro a300-1dz

Installing XP on a SATA drive requires an additional step:

http://xphelpandsupport.mvps.org/how...ws_xp_on_a.htm

However, Most newer BIOS allow an Alternate method for SATA . . Go into the bios and check the "Sata Operation" setting,

change it to "Raid Autodetect/ATA if it is not already. Now try to install XP ( could be IDE Mode, Compatibility Mode or Legacy Mode - different BIOS use different terms )

some will say IDE instead of ATA)

If there are no such settings you'll need to slipstream the sata drivers on the XP CD, follow the instructions in this guide :

http://www.digitgeek.com/how-to-slip...rs-into-xp-cd/

My laptop has developed a strange power fault, it will charge the battery while it is off but when you turn it on it seems to run off the battery then power down when the battery goes flat. All the time this is happening the AC power light is on which suggests the power is connected and all is well, the battery light shows it is fully charged until power on when it changes from white to amber.
I am going to buy a new battery as mine is not lasting very long and I need the laptop for work and can't afford to replace it right now. Any suggestions as to why the battery is getting charge but not the laptop itself.
Cheers.
Barry.

Answer:Toshiba Satellite A300 power fault.

There could be a number of reasons. A loose connection, power adapter fault etc.
Try removing the battery from the laptop and see what happens when the mains power supply are then turned back on.
You could also have a look at this link for Toshiba information http://www.ehow.com/about5912125toshiba-laptop-battery-problems.html
Doing a simple internet search, there appears to be a number of Toshiba laptop charging problems mentioned, with some possible solutions.
Failing that, have you tried Toshiba support and customer care?.

Hi people,

I have a question concerning the Toshiba Satellite A300-129;
I would like to install Windows XP on it (due to stability problems with Vista) but when I enter the Windows XP setup I get the message that Windows Setup could not find any HDD's installed on this computer, even though the BIOS tells me there is one installed. Do I need a HDD-driver to install Windows XP on this machine?

thanks in advance!

Hello.

I have Toshiba Satellite A300-1MW with BIOS 3.5 version. Can I make upgrade it to 1.7 version which i will download from Toshiba site?
Whay i want to do this?
Because I have a lot of problems with this notebook. For example:

1) Slow system loading on Compatibility mode
2) When I will set AHCI mode and install SATA drivers then loading is faster but I have problems with Critical Error

I don't know what to do :/ Maybe I have bad drivers (it is not possible because all drivers are from Toshiba site) or maybe I didn't install some drivers (there are a lot of drivers on Toshiba site, I didn't download and install all of them)

Can someone write the list of drivers which i need to install?

Thanks in advane and have a nice day.

Yours,
Tralla

Answer:BIOS Upgrade on Toshiba Satellite A300-1MW

Hello Tralla

As I can see you have already posted one thread with the same question and I am wondering you ask the same again.

You have these ?problems? because you didn?t install WXP properly. If you want to have well preinstalled WXP and use it with full speed use AHCI settings in BIOS and load WXP with all SATA drivers.
After doing this notebook will run fast, you will not have problems and BIOS update must not be done at all.
This theme is discussed very often on this forum and please take a little bit time and check this forum about WXP installation using SATA driver.

I have an A300-1MO.
Can I use any Toshiba recovery disk \?
Or is there like a specific one for my A300-1MO?

I'm like a total noob....
Somebody pls help...!

Answer:Re: Satellite A300-1MO - Can I use any Toshiba recovery disk?

No, you cannot use any Recovery disk? you have to use the recovery disk designed for this notebook model.
The point is that recovery disk contains a image. Image is a package which contains OS and Toshiba drivers?
If you would use another recovery disk then the image would be installed with not compatible drivers and this could lead to further problems?

Every new Toshiba notebook provides a Toshiba Recovery Disk creator tool. This tool can create a recovery disk?

I have a young fellow that asked me to look at his computer, however i have little knowledge of Vista. When the computer loads, it appears to work fine, then after attempting to run anything it will hang, and not go anywhere. You have to manually shut down the system. I have gone into safe mode and attempted to repair, but i don't know if i am doing it right. I suspect that the system is compromised and it may have to be reformated, however i do not have discs, it is a legal copy and somewhere i read most laptops have the back up on the harddrive itself, can anyone help lead me through this? thanks Chris

I have downloaded all the applicable programs associated with Windows 7 32-bit, until now all have worked perfectly smooth... However I have searched for the Toshiba Disc creator and have found none in the download page of Toshiba.

Answer:Satellite A300-1G5 - Questions about the Toshiba Utilities

Hi

I will try to offer some answers. Hopefully it will help you. ;)

1. No. as far as I know this is not possible but if you don't need this application just go to exit and stop it running in the background. You can start it again anytime you want.
2. You can disable this notification in RUN > MSCONFIG > Startup tab. I don't know how the right name is but you will find it there. Just remove check mark in front of it and this will never start again.
3. New notebook models are delivered without recovery DVD and you must make it alone. Toshiba has created small ?reminder? and this reminder should tell you ? Please don't forget to create this recovery DVD. So please do is using "Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator". This installations media you can use for further Vista installation. I recommend you to use DVD-R media only. TRORDCLauncher is Recovery Disc Creator Launcher . When the recovery DVD is created you can remove both applications from the system.
4. Yes you can remove them from the system. How? Control panel > Programs and Features > there is the list of all preinstalled software. Click on application you want to remove and click on the menu on option ?Uninstall?.

You can download some third part applications like ?Speed Fan?. Please note that thisr part applications are not tested and all info you see there must not be 100% right.

Please don't download driver updates using Microsoft update option.

Reformatted hard drive and loaded xp from usb stick as dvd drive would not read windows cd. How do I load drivers as dvd drive still wont read cd and cant connect to internet to download drivers?

Answer:Solved: Toshiba Satellite A300 has no drivers

If you can find the driver for the ethernet controller, and can then get online, the other drivers will be easier to deal with. Toshiba's website is notorious for its uselessness in driver downloads so it's easier to go to the ethernet adapter's Properties in Device Manager and click the Details tab. You should be looking at the Hardware ID which will have four characters showing after VEN for Vendor and another four after DEV for device.

Note those down and go to http://www.pcidatabase.com and input the DEV code into the second of the two input boxes then hit Enter. The VEN code you have will appear in column three so you'll then know who made it and have a link to their site where you can download the right driver.

Hey guys,
I've searched the forums a little to find a solution to my problem.
Having not found anything that seems to be the fix, i'm here - with my first post.

I've been looking at a friends Toshiba Satellite A300, that wont power on.
It was working fine until he purchased a new charger - a universal one.
He took the model number into the shop and was told this charger would do the job.
He told me the tip was hard to get into the charger port, he had to use force.

Since then, it hasn't powered on. He told me the charge lights were coming on, but nothing else.

I have the same model laptop as him, so we tried with my charger, my battery, still nothing.

I've taken the laptop completely apart. Re-seated everything. Still nothing.

What i noticed was that with the battery in, and my charger, when i left it charging for a while and tried to power on, it waited maybe a minute then the fan and power on lights came on for maybe 5 seconds then it died again.

Another thing i've noticed is that when it's charging with the battery in, the quick play lights near the power button work. I can press them without the laptop being on and they turn on/off except the media light, it stays on if turned on.

The only thing i have yet to try is replacing the CMOS battery.

I was wondering if anyone here has any idea what may be the problem here? It seems very odd for this to just start happening. The laptop hasn't been taken apart ... Read more

Hi ..

my friend has this laptop: Satellite A300-20P.

I'm not sure what he did, but he installed Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit, then 32-bit again. The whole thing messed up.
Anyway, he didnt make a recovery disk for his laptop (damn thing). Now, becasue I have a Toshiba laptop too I know that there is Recovery on the Harddisk on the D partition (not the windows partition). I tried to use "Repair Windows" booting Windows, when I try to restore the whole PC from a backup media it says " No backup media found", now I'm not sure if the recovery sector still available or not, because the Windows cant boot. So is there away to find the recovery media?

If this mission impossible, then I have Windows Vista Ultimate to install and I can download the drivers from the site? The problem is, how I will make recovery media when install the Windows and the drivers ?

Please this is urgent.

Thanks in advance!

Answer:Satellite A300-20P - How to restore from Toshiba recovery?

Hi

To be honest I?m confused at the moment because first you wrote about a problem of your friend?s notebook and you wrote something about your own notebook where you try repair Windows.
So I don?t understand what you mean exactly.

But fact is you have two possibilities to restore factory settings:
1)Use the Toshiba HDD recovery option. You can start it if you go in advanced boot menu (F8) and select ?Repair my computer?. Then follow the screen instructions.
The first partition of the HDD will be wiped and you get factory settings back.
2)Use the Toshiba recovery disk. It?s very similar to HDD recovery option but whole HDD will be wiped (all files will be deleted). After this you have factory settings back, too.

So that?s all what you can do to restore the factory settings. If the HDD recovery option not work and you don?t have a recovery disk you have to order a new one from Toshiba directly.

Alternative you can use a Microsoft disk to install Windows and then download and install all drivers and tools from Toshiba website step by step.

Those processes are quite important and don't really decrease the performance of the system.

If you want to improve the performance, installing more RAM or upgrading to an SSD Drive and using an efficient Virus Scanner will have the most impact.

1. Welcome to Tech Support Guy
2. If you KNOW the password this is the procedure
http://forums.toshiba.com/t5/Comput...-UEFI-BIOS-or-HDD-hard-disk-drive/ta-p/407769
If you know the password for the BIOS or UEFI or don't have one set, you can change or remove a password through the UEFI/BIOS settings, Hardware Setup Utility, or TOSHIBA Security Assist Utility.
As explained on the link with the sub links to the appropriate OS
3. The procedure you appear to refer to, irrespective of where you found it is - I would think part of a suggested method when you do NOT know the password.

Hi guys,

please do me a favour. i am in Dubai, i bought my Toshiba laptop in Dubai. That is Satellite A300-1G5, Sr.No. 98487056Q.
The problem is: whenever i try to find my laptop in Toshiba help and support web site, it is not detecting my machine.

I have tried Auto detect, putting serial no in the box, both option, but all returns with the same result---- not available in region.

Until I detect my machine I am unable to identify the exact driver and so cannot check for updates.
It is strange that Toshiba laptop is not getting found by Toshiba website.

Can anybody help me?

Answer:Satellite A300-1G5 is not detected on Toshiba support page

It can happen that system somehow cannot identify notebook model but for drivers download it is just important to know first part of the part number.
So your notebook belongs to PSAG4E series and on Toshiba download page you can define exact notebook model and see which drivers are available.

Have you tried to choose your product manually?

I have quite a weird issue that I haven't encountered before.

When the laptop is turned on, you get the Toshiba splash screen, hitting f2 gets you in to the bios, f12 gets you to the boot menu, both these menus work fine.

However, anything past this just results in a black screen, for example, if I was to choose network boot as the first boot option, or cd-rom, or hdd!

I have tried the following troubleshooting steps

1. Removed HDD/DVD and tried to network boot - nothing
2. Reset BIOS to factory defaults, checked boot items were set correctly
3. Removed ram and fitted known working ram, tried both slots
4. Removed battery and drained the static
5. Attempted recovery of the bios using floppy disk (results in same black screen when trying to boot to it)

No bios updates have been ran previous to this, all the client tried to do was connect the laptop to a projector.

Any Ideas?

Thanks
Jon Roberts

Answer:Satellite A300 - No activity after Toshiba splash screen

Hi Jon Roberts,

Why you want to update the BIOS?

If nothing works after the Toshiba screen it seems to be a hardware malfunction. You should contact nearest authorized service provider to get professional help. The guys can check the notebook and repair it.
Furthermore on the Toshiba website you can find a list of all ASPs.

Good luck! :)

i bought my lap last april and after the crash of the system.
I used the recovery disc that i made from the image on the hard disc but it erased all the data in the two partitions.

My question: Is there a way to use the disc to format partition C only without erasing the data on the other partition?

Answer:Toshiba recovery disc usage for Satellite A300-211

Hi

No. the recovery disk will format the whole HDD and will erase everything from the HDD and partition.
The usage of the HDD recovery procedure will format only the C and will leave the data on the data partition.

Hi. I am purchased Satellite A300 -1MT, but installed Windows Vista doesn't fits me.
I am install Win XP. I am found all drivers on toshiba web site. But can not found Toshiba face recognition.
Please advice me somthing!

Answer:Satellite A300 -1MT: Where to download Toshiba face recognition for Win XP

Hi

I?m afraid you will not find this tool for Win XP.
It looks this feature can be used only running Win Vista OS.
If Toshiba European driver page does not provide such software for Windows XP then you will be NOT able to find it on another websites?

So I see only one solution; go back to Vista if you want to use this!

Hi

This is a user to user forum and I doubt you will receive an something official from Toshiba. Everything what you can get are some suggestions from a notebook user like me and you.
A300-1G3 belongs to the PSAG0E series (I hope so).

Check the Toshiba European driver page. Choose this notebook model and reinstall the Common Module

Furthermore install the Toshiba *Controls* which you could find in *PSAG8E* series!!!

If I connect my machine to a monitor then my desktop is visible and works perfectly normally? If I restart then maybe my screen comes back, maybe not. There seems to be no reason for it, totally random?? Or is it ??? Could anyone offer any insight?

I recently bought a Satellite A300-15A ; model: PSAJ4E;

The laptop has 6 Multimedia keys on the top.
As described in the manual, they are supposed to perform the following funtions (left to right): (i am numbering them for convinience to mention them afterwards)
1. Mute/ LED On/Off Button
2. CD/DVD Button
3.Play/Pause Button
4.Stop Button
5.Previous Button
6.Next Button

Can someone elaborate on all the above buttons.

The only function these peform for me are as folllows;
1st Button only switches the LED off/on but does not perform any mute operation with any application (not even Windows Media Player). Even when it performs the LED off operation; only the 6 keys and the bottom 'SATELLITE' display is off; the other LED's (DC in, Powe. Battery, Disk) are still on......what is the problem and how can i start its mute operation so that i can mute the pc with any application running.

2nd button does nothing but open windows media player. What is it supposed to do exactly?

All the other keys do nothing but work on Windows Media Player. They dont work on any other application; be it VLC or any other. How can I make them work on all the media applications......

Please do elaborate and reply with solutions.

Answer:Satellite A300-15A: How does the Toshiba Control buttons work?

3-6 buttons work well also with other applications , all you have to do is to choose an actual option in Application preferences (not notebook's !).

According to the first two buttons, i got the same problems... I found out that older version of Toshiba software had "Toshiba controls" application in Control panel used to change settings for all of these button.. but now it dissappeared ;< I am already looking for any way of changing 2nd button result :) If i found out any other than changing the registry then i'll let u know here :)

@EDIT : Found it in Toshiba Assist / Optimalize/

Answer:Re: Satellite A300-1BZ Blank screen after Toshiba logo

Windows may be corrupted. Have you tried booting from a Bootable CD? For example, try the Memtest ISO from www.memtest.org

Directly after you see the Toshiba logo, press F8 a few times to access the Windows Boot Menu, and try booting into Safe Mode.

If you can get into safe mode, run CHKDSK C: /F to check for file system errors, then reboot normally.
If that doesnt work, then go back into Safe Boot and restore the PC back to a previous state using System Restore.

Hi, Since my desktop is full of stuff I can't seem to get rid of, I decided to reset my Toshiba Satellite A300-1M9 to factory settings/out-of-the-box state. Methods such as the '0 + power button'-method don't work on this model. I've lost my CD/DVD and I can't seem to acquire a new one (it's not for sale), plus the fact that I rather don't buy a new one. I can't find how to reset my Toshiba Satellite A300-1M9 to factory settings! Please help me. Yours sincerely,E. Mathijssen

Well I just checked and keeping the zero key pressed whilst pressing the power button is correct for that model.Your laptop must be turned off first of course, it won't work if the laptop is already turned on.

Dear all,

I have Toshiba satellite A300, Model NO PSAGCE-00C006AR,

My operating system is windows Vista home premium.
Recently I was working on battery when my system shut itself down.

When I connected the charger and powered it on I found that screen shows message (Please wait ) for ever, and does not allow me to enter my password.
When I press the power button to turn off my PC and restart in safe mode I can enter my password and log on to my PC and, however when I log on the PC shows only black screen with indicator arrow and nothing more.
Start button does not respond, My Computer icon or any other icons are not shown on the desktop.

I did the following steps trying to repair my PC:-

1 I restarted my PC in safe mode with command prompt trying to run chkdsk /r, however I received error message that the disk is write protected and that I can scheduled it to run the next restart. I typed Y and restart but chkdsk did not run although I restarted it 2 times.
2 I restarted my PC and select advanced option then repair start up problem, then I received message that no problem was found.

Answer:How I can use the recovery folder located in HDD to repair Satellite A300

Hello

Of course I don't know what is wrong exactly but I am confusing about some other facts.
The fact is that Toshiba has created small reminder who informs user from the first day that Toshiba doesn?t deliver recovery DVD and it is recommended to create such DVD media immediately.

Question on you: have you created this recovery media?

The Toshiba recovery image has nothing to do with Vista WinRE 1,5 GB partition. WinRE partition is Vista feature. On new notebook models Toshiba recovery image is saved on second partition in ?HDDRecovery? folder. If you didn?t touch it and if you didn?t change anything with partitions you should be able to install Vista again using this recovery image.

After switching your notebook on press F8 and choose the first option ?Repair my computer? (if available). You can enter Vista System Recovery Options . The last option should be ?Toshiba Recovery?. If you didn?t change anything this option will be available.

Check it out!

Wow what a long post? lol.

Try running memtest (burn it to disk and allow it to run at bootup; may need to change your BIOS settings to boot from CD/DVD rom). The error you are getting (BC Code 7f) could spell faulty or failing RAM....so give this test a try and see if you get any errors after running a few passes.

What key strokes do I press to have the Toshiba Satellite A300 start the recovery partition?
On a Gateway PC you had to hold Alt+F10 then hit Esc and Alt+F10 again to access the recovery information on the HD without the CD's.

i just bought my new Satelite, but now i see that the best tool from the former Satelite line is missing!
POWER SAVER! i'm running vista at the moment, but power saver does not exist so it seems!
I was wondering if that was indeed true, or it just does nog exist in my language!

If it does not exist, i would like to suggest it to Toshiba, to bring it back, but it was a most usefull tool, mutch better then the one that is standard on windows vista!
If anyone has a solution, i would be glad to hear from you ofcourse!

PS i tried installing the version for windows XP witch i downloaded from the Toshiba site, but it does not work on Vista ofcourse!

Answer:Toshiba Power Saver on Satellite A300-PSAGCE with Vista OS

Hello

Power saver is installed under Vista too and you can find it under:
Start ? Control Panel ? System & Maintenance ? Power Options > ?Select a Power Plan? ? Change plan settings ? Change advanced power settings ? Toshiba Power Saver Settings V.xxx

As you can see the settings are not like before under WXP. The fact is that most of settings are now controlled by Vista and Toshiba power saver has no much influence in power settings like before.

Hi,

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro A300 here, running on Windows Vista, and it will not see any wireless networks. The wireless adaptor is enabled and I have checked this several times to make sure. It will connect perfectly if connected with an ethernet cable in the RJ-45 port so this has slightly confused me. I'm sure there must be a simple fix. Also there seems to be no problems with the network drivers installed (No yellow exclaimation marks or anything). Any suggestions welcome.

Thanks in advance

Answer:Cannot start Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator on my Satellite A300-15K

Hi

Did you change anything on your notebook?
I mean if your HDD recovery partition has been changed or the data o thin partition has been deleted?

To be honest for me it looks like the OS issue. I think it?s not a single tool issue but I think the operating system has been muddled up?

Maybe you should try to recover the notebook using the Toshiba HDD recovery option and after the new OS installation on the notebook you could try to create the recovery disk again.

In order to start the recovery you have to press the F8 immediately after the notebook has been powered up. Then you should choose the first option called ?Repair My Computer?.
This would lead to a new window and there you could choose ?Toshiba HDD recovery?.

But note; this recovery would format the whole HDD? so maybe you should backup some data before you would start this procedure.

Hello, I have this problem with Toshiba satellite A300.

I deleted many files and folders from my C and E drives. On restarting the computer, it only shows the Toshiba logo then a blank screen slightly gray on close inspection. Whenever I press the CRL + ALT + DEL keys, the computer restarts and behaves in the same manner.

I have tried using an external monitor but there is no difference. On trying to boot using a CD/DVD, same behaviour happens, it won't boot from it and screen remains blank after the Toshiba logo, I have even tried changing g the boot order but to no avail.

What could be happening?
Thanks in advance.

Answer:Re: satellite A300 screen goes blank after toshiba logo, won't boot from CD/DVD

Hi,

It looks like you removed system folders and Windows doesn't boot anymore. Have you tried to restore the factory settings from hdd image or recovery disk? Or make Windows copy installation... It's easier to reinstall it rather fixing the problem.

Answer:Re: Satellite A300-1EB: Toshiba Control buttons & FN keys don't work on Win XP

Hi

The Satellite A300-1EB belongs to the PSAG0E series.
So please choose firstly the right notebook series before you will start to download the XP drivers.

After choosing the right notebook model you will have to reinstall the XP drivers.

The Common Module and Hotkey Utility are necessary to get the FN keys working.
The Common Modules must be installed at first.

To get the Multimedia buttons working you will have to install the ?Controls? .
I didn?t find it in the PSAG0E series but in other A300 series like PSAGCE. So check it out!

By the way: SP3 can causes some compatibility issues... so maybe you should remove it firstly!

Have you tried to make an update of Toshiba Assist? A new version and all other Toshiba stuff you can find here:

Maybe the update will solve the problem.

About the control buttons? I think you must set iTunes as standard media player and select all file with playing iTunes.

My new Satellite A300 will not load and I didn't have a chance to make a recovery CD.

I have made a backup of the Hard drive and now want to restore the settings back to the beginning.

I tried downloading a Vista recovery disc but the laptop won't boot from that.

Pressing F8 after turning it on doesn't give me the option to repair the computer and pressing zero on start up doesn't make any difference.

Is there a way of telling the computer to look at the partitioned section of the Hard drive and boot from there?

Help is much appreciated

To make a Partition bootable, you need to use FDisk to set the partition "active". Win98 Bootdisks can be found at www.bootdisk.com

Answer:Satellite A300: Does TRDC Reminder & Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator work after Win 7 upgrade?

Hello Igor

In my opinion you should create recovery disc before you upgrade it to Win7. I have done the same.
Later if something goes wrong you can use your discs and install Vista again using created recovery discs.

I don't understand why you want to wait and create these discs after upgrade. This recovery disc creator doesn?t create recovery image of current state but always the same recovery image you got with your notebook.

Tempro should work in Win7 too.

Hello everyone,

I bought a used Lap top off of a former classmate of mine and after using it for about 6 months, I decided to do a complete factory restore on it to clean it up. I do not have any recovery disks so I need to do the factory restore using the HDD.

for some reason I can not run the factory restore. I follow the correct steps (FAQ :: How do I run a System Recovery? :: Support :: Toshiba :: Computers, Laptops/Notebooks, Tablets, Televisions, DVD and Blu-Ray Players, Camcorders, Storage, Accessories, and more) but it will not go into the restore mode. It just beeps and starts windows 7. Is my recovery driver corrupt? How can I repair it?

I have a Toshiba Satillite and it is running Windows 7. I think it might have originally been running Windows XP and the previous owner upgraded to Windows 7. I've lost contact with the guy I bought the lap-top from.

See attached for a screen shot of my drivers.

I hope someone can help me out!!

Thanks,

Answer:How do I repair my recovery HDD on my Toshiba Satellite

If he upgraded to win7 - the recovery partition would contain XP.

The upgrade proces would likely cause problems with accesing it.

If you need a win7 install disc, you can get the .iso files from links at my digital life.

Just google:

You would need the windows 7 product key. get it from your existing installation , before you reinstall.

You can find that with any number of programs - http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/product_cd_key_viewer.html

Why would you not have SP1 installed almost five years after it was released? That is not even Windows 7! It sounds like you've been running an unpatched OS for years and probably are loaded up with malware, hardware that is unpatched and running badly as a result.

Is this s still the factory install which is the worst install of WIn7 one can have? If so I would take the time now to do a perfect Clean Reinstall Windows 7 which will result in the best possible install of Win7 one can have, which will stay that way as long as you stick with only the tools and methods given in that tutorial.

A Repair Install will be fighting against all the factory bloatware and corruption which has built up and would likely fail, and even if it "succeeded" it would need to pass back through so many corrupt settings it would defeat the purpose of in-place reinstalling since it would still have a ton of crap on its back. Better to go completely clean and unleash Win7 native perfect performance which you have never even experienced on that PC.

So your best option is to do the reinstall and you came to the right place since we've helped over a million consumers do a Clean Reinstall Windows 7 without a single complaint or return with problems.

Title says, I have a Toshiba Satellite and when I launch recovery options while starting it up it goes extremely slow.
If I launch it with a repair disc it still goes extremely slow.
ATM, I've put the repair disc and now im just waiting to see what happens. I'm timing it and will let you guys know how long it takes but if anyones had this problem before, please let me know.

Answer:Toshiba Satellite running extremely slow even with repair disc in.

You most likely don't need the Repair CD if you're PC is running slow, and it's presence wouldn't make any difference anyway.

Work through these steps to Clean Up Factory Bloatware which should improve performance.

If not here are additional Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7

Hello,

When I turn on my laptop, I have Toshiba starting screen with a message:
"Preparing automatic repair"
And then there is only a dark screen and after some time, I am getting the message:
"Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart. We're just collecting some error info, and then we'll restart for you."

And then the PC restarts and again I am getting the message: "Preparing automatic repair"..
This loop lasts for some hours by now.
Does it finally bring me Windows starting screen?

Any help would be appreciated.

Toshiba satellite A300 with Vista Home Premium
Have looked at the forum and the overheating option might be the cause- except this happens on cold startup too.
The battery held no charge originally and I have replaced this.
Drivers are all up to date
I used the bootable repair disc and it ran chkdsk and originally corrected some errors. Now it gets as far as a 'Configuring Updates - stage 3 of 3 0% complete. Do not turn off your computer-then restarts repeatedly. Any ideas?
Many Thanks

Hi all,

Is Satellite Pro A300-1NT (or Satellite Pro A300-1GT) eligible for adding a second hard drive?

Thanks,

Peter

Answer:Satellite Pro A300-1NT (Satellite Pro A300-1GT) -- second hard drive

Hmm?. As far as I know you cannot use an second HDD in this notebook.
There could be an second HDD bay but this would not mean that an usage of second HDD would be possible.

What you have to know is that A300 series has been equipped with different motherboards and not all mobos provides an second HDD controller.
If you want you could remove the cover secured the second HDD bay and could check if connectors are available.

If not then you cannot connect and use the second HDD.

Bye

Why does the Satellite A300-1EC stand dearer as Satellite A300-1EG, but on configuration loses him?

What is their substantial distinction in?
What model of notebook can advise, in this price range?

Answer:What is the difference between Satellite A300-1EC & Satellite A300-1EG

Hello

Satellite A300-1EC belongs to PSAG0E group and Satellite A300-1EC to PSAG4E. When this model numbers are different that means they don't have the same hardware configuration.

The first one has Intel 965GM (Crestline) graphic controller. The second one has ATI M82XT (256MB). The HDD capacity is not the same. The first one has 160 GB HDD and second one 250 GB.

So that is the difference between these A300 notebooks.

In my opinion the second one is better. You must make your decision and choose the right one.

Hello,

At the moment I am here in France and I am planning to buy a Satellite Pro A300 with an AZERTY keyboard (which is not exactly a problem for me at the moment). The problem will begin when I come back to my country where the keyboard layout is QWERTY. I plan to sell the laptop when I get back (I don't like hanging on to a laptop for a very long time). The thing is the Satellite A300 is officially sold in my country but not the Satellite Pro A300. I am now wondering if the keyboard for the A300 is compatible with the Pro A300 (looking at the forum threads for older models suggest that they are compatible but I am not completely sure).

Can anyone provide a definitive answer to this compatibility question?

Thanks!

Answer:Are the keyboards of Satellite Pro A300 and Satellite A300 the same?

The keyboard button layout doesn?t depend from the Satellite Pro or Satellite series but from the country where the notebook has been purchased.

Different countries need different keyboard button layouts and therefore the buttons are assigned to different positions on the keyboard.

But the keyboard itself could be used in Sat Pro or Satellite notebook too.

Question: Toshiba A300-276

Hello guys, i have a toshiba a300-276 on my hands that is just killing me.
I cant configure the bios due to password requirement. I can access to OS.
Its one of those new bios with insyde h2o efi firmware, so it doenst save the password with the battery and shoorting pins only clears CMOS, but doenst remove password.
It doesnt create any code so i can use a password generator either.
Also, since ive cleared CMOS, the laptop doesnt seem to shutdown (not OS related), it never turns off entirely, fans keep working, but if i click in the power button, it starts (shows bios screen and load OS)
Any idea? It seems that it needs to be configured, but i just cant access it.
Hope you guys can help me. Sending to Toshiba is not an idea.

Answer:toshiba A300

Laptop Battery not showing Charging1. Turn off the computer, 2. Take the battery out 3. Take out the power supply 4. Push the power button down for 30 seconds. 5. Reconnect power supply 6. Then the battery. Should now show 100% charged. This is because sometimes the mother board gets static and this clears it and the reason it showed not charging was because it was fully charged.

Question: Toshiba A300 help

I received a Toshiba Satellite A300-1J1 with Vista 3 days ago as my first laptop. I had the DC power cable in all day to charge the battery and the machine was operating well. I took the power cable out at night and shut the computer down, but the LED DC and battery lights were still illuminated, saying that the cable was connected and the battery was charged, and seemed to remain that way all night. Even now they are lit up, when there is no power cable attached. So basically the lights are showing that the cable is attached when it is nowhere near it.

I was then told to charge the laptop for 24 hours to see if there was any change. When I shut the laptop down after that the lights eventually went off after about 3 minutes. But now it is back to leaving the lights on. So will I have to keep charging for 24 hours just to get the lights to go off?

I'd rather not go through the hassle of returning the laptop (I bought it online), as I would like to get things transferred from my old PC as soon as possible.

Does anybody know what is wrong, and if I can do anything to fix it (preferably something that won't void the warranty!)?

Thank you.

Hi,

My friend bought a Toshiba A300-16C from our work (PCWorld) but we want to get rid of Vista as its a good machine but the OS is piss and slowing it down lol.

So I have a WinXP Pro disc and I know I just delete the partitions then reinstall XP etc.

The only thing that worries me is that I looked on the Toshiba website for XP drivers and they only had "Vista and OS Independant".

Does anyone know if we will be able to get the drivers for this model, aka will we be able to use XP on it?

Thanks,

Scott Rowan

hey.

Just bought a a300 which comes with 2gb ram and i saw written on the cd that came with it that it was 'vista home premium 64-bit', so i went along to buy another 2gb of ram (hasnt arrived yet).

I went onto computer properties and it said 'vista home premium 32-bit' is this gonna limit my ram to 3gb?

if i will be limited, Can i upgrade to 64-bit from the cd that came with it?

also, I just downloaded cpuz and it said my max ram frequency is 333mhz, but the stick of ram in the laptop says 667mhz, whats up with that?

Thanx

Answer:just bought toshiba a300 ram limitation?

Okay, first, yes, 32-bit operating systems whether Vista or XP won't read more than 3 gigs of RAM.

Second, go to Memory upgrades, flash media, and usb storage at Crucial.com and allow them to scan your system for free. You'll have to download an Active X but this is harmless. I have used this tool many times to get an accurate read and it is highly relliable. You will not get malware/adware and you are not forced to buy their RAM.

Once scanned it will tell you:

1. The amount of RAM your motherboard will allow.

2. The memory options you have for your ssytem.

Let us know how it goes.

I am running Windows 7 64-Bit on my Toshiba A300, and when I get my monitor in a certain position (same position every time) I hear the noise like I plugged in a flash drive and then the notification pops up and says "USB device not recognized". Sometimes if my computer is in that one bad position when I try to start it up, nothing happens. You can hear the hard drive turn on, but the screen stays black and the hard drive quits spinning. If I turn off & close my computer then move the monitor to a different position it will turn back on. I have left my computer just sitting there for a really long time hoping that some sort of error would come up eventually but nothing ever does. The only thing I can come up with is that my display or monitor driver is not updated. I have tried to find the newest driver and been unsuccessful. I have also tried to let the computer search for the newest driver but it doesn't find anything and I'm pretty sure there are new drivers out there. Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi
Toshiba laptop intermitent power failure. Didnt turn on at all and no lights at all whether on battery or ac charger. Took it apart and reseated memory etc. Found top connection on rtc battery was not connected to motherboard so resoldered it.Tried charger on another laptop - worked fine. tried battery on another laptop - seems ok. Put the laptop back together and it fired up first time. Turned it on and off 20 times or more and it fired up perfectly every time. Few days later it appears dead again. Could the problem be: 1. The on/off button ? 2. The power jack ? 3. RTC battery ????? 4.Something else I`m missing?

Hi guys My laptop is a TOSHIBA Equium A300-16C RM-70, and was purchased in Sept '08, it has been used regularly up until July 2010, when it switched off and wouldn't start up again. For about 6 months prior to this, the laptop would often overheat when laying on my bed and switch off. I've had my battery charger lead tested and it works. But it hasn't started up since that date. When I press the power on button, the laptop start up light doesn't turn on.I'm not sure whether it is a simple battery problem or a much more severe problem. Thanks for your help in advance guys

Answer:Problem Laptop will not turn on: Toshiba A300-16C

Try taking the battery out and switching of the power lead. Then hold the on button for 30 seconds then refit the battery and switch on the power lead and see if any difference. If not try with the battery out and just use the power connector.

My husband's old Toshiba Satallite A300 laptop needs the OS re-installing as it is having problems and won't work properly plus the CD drive isn't working even though in the device manager it says it is working properly.
I have the product ID but I no longer have the Product Key as it is no longer on the bottom of the laptop, been rubbed off with age. When the laptop was bought we had to make our own recovery disks so the Product key was only on the bottom of the laptop. How do I now re-install Win 8 without the Product key? and will a reinstallation fix the CD? I really don't want to buy another laptop as I think this can be fixed so do I need Product key and how can I find it - where? If I put the disks into my laptop will it show the Product Key? Since the CD doesn't work on his laptop I tried to change the boot to USB but it won't hold those settings and keeps going back to HD only so another problem. I have a plug in CD drive but not sure if the laptop will recognise it and use it to reinstall.
All help appreciated.

Answer:Toshiba A300 Re-Instalation problem help needed

Go here click here Produkey - a neat little install to recover keys. Scroll down to find the download links, just below Feedback.
IN BIOS / Setup look for for Pop up menu / boot options menu - this can be accessed by a key as laptop boots and a boot device can be selected. Using this should enable you to boot from plug in CD drive.
Are you sure it was running W8. All the info about A300 laptops suggest it was supplied with Vista. If you have a recovery disk I suspect it will be for Vista. Also W8 rarely had a product sticker, the key was embedded in the HDD. Produkey will still work and tell you what it finds.

After breaking my favourite ever laptop I made the mistake of just buying a new one, I then discovered Windows 8 which I hated so I gave that away to my girlfriend so at least I got some brownie points. I then bought a second hand Toshiba satellite Pro L550-19T running Windows 7 which works away fine but it's a bit cumbersome, the sound is rubbish and I just don't like it.
That's the "why" out the way, now I have just bought an old Toshiba A300-1MP which is almost identical to my old one but I would like to boost the performance as much as is reasonably possible. It has the Intel GM45 Express Chipset with an Intel Core 2 Duo T5800 processor, from what I have read the chipset will take up to a T9900 processor. Will it be the BIOS or the chipset that is the limiting factor on a cpu upgrade assuming heating issues are not a factor?
That's my main concern, the old damaged A300 will still boot so I may install in that first to test my eventual choice of cpu other than that I'm planning to max out the memory and install a solid state HDD.
Any advice would be really appreciated, I've been out of the loop so to speak on building and upgrading computers for the past few years and just repairing what's gone wrong.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
Barry.

Answer:Toshiba Laptop A300-1MP upgrade options.

Barry. The short answer is 'Laptops don't up grade
Hdd's can be swapped for a bigger one' add more more memory perhaps.
But that s it.
Even changing to a SSHD may not be feasable
You risk spending money on unsuitable bits and pieces
Far better to buy a machinecro suit your needs.
Another way to kook at the problem is to change operating/systems
W8 is very heavey for older machines consider looking at Linux Ubuntu or Mint both very Windows like in use'
They can be run from a 'live'CD' to try and it is all FREE to download including software
