I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

What type of ac adapter do you have, voltages and have you tried another type of ac adapter ?

I don't know for sure, but... it sounds like something is wrong with the ac jack.
Those can be replaced easily if you know how to solder, the part will cost less 7 dollars USA wise but shipping to you might be another issue due to your location.

My computer Satellite A205-S5804 won't boot.
It won't run on safe mode, and it won't run the system restore.

It remains black with a cursor, if anything at all.

How do I get my computer back on?

Answer:Satellite A205-S5804 won't boot.

Hi

You?ve got a cursor which is flashing in the upper left corner?
In such case you should check of the HDD has been recognized by BIOS!

If the HDD is listed in BIOS then I would recommend checking the HDD using the drive?s fitness test:
http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/download.htm

To run the drive?s fitness test you must download the appropriate creator or image and create a self-booting media.

Check it!

Hi.

I have tried to do this twice but both times failed. I have the XP disc and I have used it on my desktop before so it does work. The installation completes and after it is done XP loads and there is this blue screen that appears for like a split second and I am unable to read it and then the PC restarts. Very frustrating.

I would really love any help that you can offer me. Toshiba customer support told me that this model only supports Windows VISTA but there has to be a way. Please help me.

Hey,

Do you also have problems with Toshiba recovery disk or only with Windows XP disk?

Probably the problem is related to SATA drivers? Can you install XP properly when you change the HDD mode in BIOS from AHCI to compatible?

Hi. My A205-S5804 broke down yesterday. It turns itself off seconds after I turn it on (does this both on battery and AC alike), thne it turns on and off repeatedly for like four more times before staying off. It shows nothing on screen doesn?t POST and makes no beeps.

Is there any thing I can do to fix it myself, or I need to take it to the ASP?

Answer:Satellite A205-S5804 broekn - turns itself off after I turn it on.

In my opinion there is some serious hardware problem and I strongly recommend you to contact nearest Toshiba authorized service provider.
They will run diagnostic tools and find out what the problem is.

Sorry but I don't think there is anything you can do about it.

Hello

This model is using by me. I downloaded it from Vista to XP.

After installing Microsoft Sync it requires restart and after that my laptop doesn`t boot. HD is shown and known on BIOS.

Any help from please?

Answer:Satellite A205-S5804 - After installing Microsoft sync it doesn't boot

Hi

> After installing Microsoft Sync it requires restart and after that my laptop doesn`t boot.
And what does ?it doesn?t boot? mean?
Do you get an error message? Is the notebook freezing on start up? Do you get a BSOD?

I don?t know how you can solve this issue but can you go in the advanced boot menu? Can you boot in safe mode?

In my opinion the Microsoft Sync installation destroyed something on Windows and in worst case you have to reinstall the whole OS.

Hello all, I am brand new on here and need some assistance. I have a Toshiba Satellite A205-S5843. First off my harddrive took a dump. OK, went bought a new hard drive, installed it and began the restore process on the computer. Everything was good, until it was over 50 percent done loading files when an error appeared. \windows\system32\winload.exe file was missing or corrupt. Everything stopped. I don't have a windows vista disk and that is what it wanted. I try to start over and bam....the dvd drive is no longer being recognized in the system BIOS. It only lists the hard drive. So now I cannot even put in a disc to try and load anything. The drive does actually run. It lights up, spins etc. But the computer brain does not see it. Any ideas? Thanks.

Used for several hours with no problem, I was plugged in not using battery. Icon went missing again & after once again checking this is notifications all of a sudded the computer just shut down. Can't restart, no power from adapter. If battery is in only the battery light shows. The battery isn't charged so that doesn't help much. I went to use the cd drive and upon opening the drive tray, the screen went blank as if it lost power. Curently the AC power is pluged in but nothing happens when the power button on the laptop is pushed on. I'm sure that the battery is still charged. if not could this be a cause? Is there an internal cutoff overload swith that may have tripped.

I first noticed that when I was on AC power, the battery would start discharging, and the charge light would be off. So I shut down, took the battery out, and tried to restart on AC. It would start the boot process, run for less then 10 seconds, and shut off. I would restart again, it would get about half way through the boot process, and shut down again. Then I would restart, and it would boot up fine, but shut down after a couple of hours.

I thought it was overheating, so I removed and cleaned the heat sink thoroughly, and made sure the fans are working right. No luck.

Now it gets really weird. I bought a new battery, installed it and let in charge overnight. The next day everything worked perfectly on AC for at least 10 hours, and I shut it down for the day. The following day, after running for several hours on AC, I noticed that the charge light was off, and the battery was discharging again. Shut it down, took the battery out, tried to restart, and had the same three times to a good boot up described above. It ran perfectly without the battery for several hours afterwards. I then reinstalled the battery, and for the moment, it's working fine. But I'm sure this will start again.

Anyone have a clue?

Answer:Weird Toshiba Satellite A35-S159 Power Problem

Yes.

The power adapter sounds as if its on the way out, it's unable to supply the power needed for the laptop for long without cutting out. The charge light going off confirms that suspicion.

Hey there,

I have a Toshiba Satellite, A215-S5837. About 6 months ago my original adapter had died completely. So I had got a universal one. No problems up until recently. Now I had done some research before asking this question. I had looked up the prior thread located here. http://forums.techguy.org/hardware/548923-toshiba-laptop-power-cord-failure.html
As well as a few other places. The universal charger is not working now. I had my thoughts on the Jack as well however. its a pretty new computer, only about a 1.5 yrs old. Since its a Universal adapter I went and tried the adapter on my girlfriends laptop. Same problem, however when I plug my girlfriends charger into hers it works perfectly fine. No problems what so ever.
Now here is what worries me.

My Jack does get warm sometimes. but the Adapter gets very hot until my laptop is completely charged.
My computer recognizes that it is plugged in however the power light will flash between orange and blue while the battery will be orange regardless if its fully charged. If its fully charged it will be blue but when this happens it changes to orange and the screen dims.

These are the only problems that I have noticed thus far. Any suggestions or thoughts.? Maybe just buy a new charger? Time to replace the Jack and Charger?

Thanks in advance for all the help.

-Andrew

Hey guys. Yup, more boredom induced engineering. I took the DVD-RAM drive out of a freshly dead Toshiba Satellite A205, and put it in my IBM A-31 in place of it's stock CD/RW drive. All I had to do is take the Drive rails (I think that's what they are called) and the adaptor piece off of the original drive, and put it on the Toshiba's drive ( a MAT**bleep**A DVD-RAM UJ-850S). It is still 100% compatible, and hot swappable. Also made the laptop Bluetooth Enabled thanks to the IBM R-52. And now has 768MB of ram. And the best part is, I got a new laptop for my birthday, but it is just sitting in the corner collecting dust. I favor this one over the new one. So, if you have any dead newer laptops lieing around, you can swap the drives out!!

Hi there,

I assume that the "0100101010"-code should be some kind of error code, but I am not sure. But even if it is one you wouldn?t get information about it since such technical information are preserved for toshiba technicians, I guess. :)

So, in this case, you cannot do anything and just ask some notebook technician/authorized service center for a hardware checkup or a repair.

Sorry mate, but thats it.

Hello

I have a Toshiba Satellite M35X-S109 Laptop with expired warranty. A few weeks ago, it stopped working all of a sudden. When I turn it on, the fan starts to work for a few seconds and then it stops. The laptop doesn?t boot up nor does the LCD lit up. I had a friend, who is a technician, check the laptop. He checked it and said that everything else (hard drive, mother board, LCD, etc..) is fine, the only problem with the laptop is that its Power Supply don?t work. He couldn?t find the Power Supply repair part, thus wasn?t able to fix it. Now the laptop is back in my home unfixed. He advised me to buy a power supply part and he can put it in the laptop and the laptop will be fine. I don?t know the part # of the power supply. He said I should contact Toshiba but my warranty is expired. Another friend suggested I should buy a similar model non working laptop and take out its power supply and fix my laptop.

Can any body advise as what my next step should be. I am willing to spend up to $150 on this laptop but not more than that.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I have a Toshiba Satellite A205-SP5820, and it has been almost two months since my microphones stopped working (both external & the built-up). Today, i installed three different drivers (one downloaded from softonic, the other one from Toshiba's webpage and the other one from Realtek's)
They are still not working.

What can i do?
Thank you.

Answer:Satellite A205-SP5820 - Problem with microphones

That really strange you have this problem with internal and external mic.
The notebook configuration is not known to me but if you have tried mix of different drivers I don't think there is some ?clean situation? related to preinstalled driver.

I think best option for you will be clean OS installation but using Toshiba recovery image you got with your notebook. Toshiba recovery image contains well working and tested drivers so if the problem will be there again it can be only hardware related issue.

Is clean OS installation option for you?

Hi there, I have a toshiba A75 laptop that does not boot when on ac power without a battery beyond bios. It shows the splash screen but then dies on normal boot.

When I have the battery in and the unit is powered off It does charge the battery.
When the battery is fully charged, it will run and boot into windows but does not recognize the ac power at all. It just drains the battery, then when the battery is at 0 it shuts off and this is while connected to AC power and the LED see's the AC power.

When on AC power I can boot into bios and it will sit there for days without a battery, but when I try to get to the OS it just shuts down. I have replaced the mobo twice. I have replaced the hard drive as well. The odd part is that with the hard drive out of the laptop, I can get the laptop to run with out any power failures. It just recycles the media device failure message but does not crash.

I have tested the power supply on other laptops and it seems to work just fine.

Any one have any ideas?

Answer:Toshiba Satellite A75 boot/power issue with AC power

Since you have replaced the system board twice, this probably does not apply to you... but we have seen a number of Toshibas with the same or similar motherboard where the power jack on the board became loose or disconnected. A new jack had to be obtained and soldered back into position.
If you bought used boards or refurbished boards, this difficult jack problem could have been the cause. It requires a special cold solder technique and is awkward to access, but when done properly by an experienced tech, it can save a laptop.
There are several Dell Inspirons and Sony laptops with the similar problem.
We have seen costs in a shop as high as $160 for this repair... but the part is only $6.00 so I don't know how they justify the high cost.

I have the above laptop with windows 7 on it, fresh install.  It had windows vista on it previously, but the problem existed even then.   Problem is that whenever Im running the laptop in normal mode, the laptop shutsoff randomly even with no programs running.  I did some research on this and read that the nvidia graphics chips sometimes heat up and cuse this.  However, when I start the laptop in safe mode, this random behaviour of shutdown does not happen.  So it seems that there is some driver or device that gets started in normal mode that causes this shutdown behaviour.  How would I go about finding what driver it is, if my deduction is correct? Could there be any other cause

Answer:Toshiba Satellite A205-S5853 shuts down randomly

Safe Mode runs graphics at lowest setting, so the video card wont heat up like it would in normal desktop environment etc. I think your still dealing with atemp issue. Install speedfan if you can to the system when its running normal and look at temps. I have a feeling you may need to replace thermal compound or a fan may not be keeping up with the heat output such as if its failing to spin at times orspinning too slow, or obstructed with hair, lint etc.I had a Toshiba Qosmio with the same Core 2 Duo 1.83Ghz CPU and GeForce 7300 Mobile and the thermal bond between the heat pads degraded and caused it to shutdown. I opened the laptop and carefully removed the heatsink assembly and applied arctic silver and reapplied heatsink and dropped my temp. I was idling around 55-60C and games would peg it into 80C and cause shutdowns. I applied new thermal compound and locked heatsink down and now it never gets over 56C when gaming.

Answer:toshiba satellite A205-S5853 shuts off randomly

Hi shashman,

As you have said this is a "fresh install". " Safemode starts" use limited start-up resources. I would start by analyzing what programs are running

at start-up here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902.aspx?ocid=fwlink

Then it  is a process of elimination as to what program is the cause of the issue. It is tedious but by preventing some programs to start will narrow the root cause.

Also you could run sfc /scannow using the elevated command prompt. It will attempt to repair any corrupt files found.

Since this is a fresh install that alternative is a possibility not a probability.

Lately my toshiba satellite A205-S5853 is acting weird. When I power it up on battery, it powers on, the hd starts up, the fan starts up but everything shuts down in like a second. I thought it was maybe that the battery didnt have enough power, so I plugged in the AC cord, same thing, so then I figured maybe the battery was causing a short, so I took out the battery and unplugged it from the AC and pressed the power button to dissipate any static. Then I plugged in the AC and left the battery out. Same thing happened. What is going on, can it be fixed without having to buy a new mobo

Answer:Toshiba Satellite A205-S5853 shut down issues

I'm not as knowledgeable as many of the experts on this board but until one of them chimes in with a solution I'll try to help.  Does your machine have multiple memory modules installed? If so you can try removing the module from the lower slot 'B'. Then try starting your machine. If this "shuts down in like a second" issue still exist then remove the memory module from the top slot 'A' and replace it with the module you previously removed from the bottom slot 'B'. Now try starting the machine with the 1 module installed in the top slot 'A' only. If the issue still exist try this:  I had an issue similar to yours on my Toshiba Satellite L355-S7915. I cured that issue via BIOS update. Hopefully this will cure your issue also. Now if I can remember how I did it:  Try pressing F8 key repeatedly immediately after power on. If this works then you should be able to select the start-up option 'Safe Mode with Networking'. Then download and install the BIOS update from Toshiba for your Satellite A205-S5853.. Hopefully this will solve your issue. If not then I'll need to let one of our more experienced members help you.Good luck!  Mike

Greetings all.

I have a new laptop that came preinstalled with Windows Vista Home Premium as they tend to.
Vista does not run a number of the programs I need to run, I've found, and I really don't like it that much anyway..
I have decided to install Windows XP.

I partitioned the HD and ran the installer to a new partition on the drive with all of the drivers I've collected for XP sleepstreamed into my retail XP Professional disc. This is no problem. I got everything up and going just fine. My only problem now (well, other than some residual issues with the original Vista partition) is that I can't get the proprietary Toshiba utilities going so that I can use for example the FN+ commands, power management options, etcetera.

I have experimented around with a couple of different versions of the Common Modules drivers and other utilities but have of yet been unable to get things moving in the direction I would like them to move.

The main thing really is the control for FN+F6 and F7 (Adjusting brightness), as the monitor on this beast kills a battery.
I've tried Toshiba support, but with no luck.
I know the Vista to XP downgrade is a pretty common move, so if anybody has been there and could give me a little step by step guidance in getting things working I would be forever indebted.

The model is Toshiba Satellite A205-S7464, Part No. PSAF3U-07300V.
Let me know if any other information is necessary.

Thanks in advance, Jacob

Answer:Satellite A205-S7464: How to install Toshiba Common Modules for XP Pro SP2

It seems to be a notebook series which were delivered only in the USA and therefore all Toshiba drivers and utilities should be installed from the US site.

This is a Toshiba US driver page:
http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/su/su_sc_modSel.jsp

Where did you find this Common modules driver?

> I have experimented around with a couple of different versions of the Common Modules drivers and other utilities but have of yet been unable to get things moving in the direction I would like them to move.
I presume you are not able to install these common modules because you have used wrong version which is not designed and not compatible with your notebook.

Good Day.I have a Toshiba laptop that will not successfully load Vista. It appeared to be working properly, until I ran an AVG virus scan. It was running slow, but okay for about 4 hours and I left it go.  When I returned to the unit, screen was on but dark, lights on and wouldn't 'wake up'.  Eventually powered off and has not been able to load to completion.  I do get the error screen with the option to repair the start up; I accept that option, but never get more than a on-but-dark screen; power is still on.What next?  No Vista CD, just the key on the bottom of the unit.Hope someone can help.J

To original poster (if you're still around): I noticed your post was from April, and I just checked out the Toshiba page: they have a BIOS upgrade from July. Maybe that contains a patch to enable the SATA controller to act like a PATA one (thus dropping the need for F6 or SATA drivers).

Ok, I am fully aware of the black screen of death issue, which I have along with everyone else who didn't pay attention when buying this comp, but this morning I tried to turn it on and I get a blinking battery light, but nothing else. I took out the battery and tired with just the AC Adapter plugged in, no blinking light, nothing. With the adapter unplugged and the battery in, I still get the blinking light. So I figured it had to be the adapter. I went out and bought a new adapter, but no dice. Anyone else have this problem? Know any possible way to fix this or what's causing it?

Answer:Vista Home Prem. Toshiba Satellite A205 screen minimizes often for no reason!!Help!!

I have researched this and every instance occurs with Toshiba.

This may be why:
Toshiba had "tap zones" enabled on the track pad..
If you tapped the corners or dragged in from the corners it did things like
minimizing windows.
You need to go into the mouse properties and look in the advance synaptic
properties and turn them off.

You can also uninstall the Toshiba-Synaptic software in Add/Remove Programs, restart computer and let Microsoft install the touchpad driver/software. This should fix your "corner tapping" issue. and still give full touchpad/tapping/vertical scroll functionality. (see below thumbnails)

Ok I have done a ton of research online about what could be wrong with my laptop. But I cant find anything about my situation. When I plug the charger in I get a blue charge light on and it stays on. I dont have a battery so I cant tell you if it will charge. But to my knowledge I dont even need a battery to turn on the laptop. I can use AC. When I hit the power button the power light next to the charge light turns on for 5-10 seconds and then shuts off. I can do this over and over till I am blue in the face. By the way when i hit the power button nothing happens inside the laptop at all. No sound or movement. Now i have tried to hold the power button with out it being plugged in for 30 secs to 3 mins and still the same routine. I reseated the memory and also taken out the hard drive and DVD drive. Still nothing. Can someone help me to troubleshoot this machine.

PS does the fingerprint reader have anything to do with it not turning on?

I have a power up issue with my Toshiba Satellite A505-S6033. About a month ago my laptop suddenly shutoff and is showing no power incoming/charging. When I try removing the charger and plug and holdong down the power button it ends up not doing anything andiI've tried for about 5 mins. It does however light up for a split second when I remove the battery and plug the adapter in; it makes the power led flicker red and out again. I'm thinking it was just fried/motherboard dead but since its lighting up I'm hoping that's not the case.

My Toshiba laptop was working fine with the AC adapter plugged in (the battery was on it's last breath and would not charge at all, so I always had to keep it plugged it). I had to move so I unplugged the laptop (did not shut down). After the move I tried turning it on and it would not.

The AC Led light is on, so it's not the adapter.
The Battery light is amber and flickering (it wasn't flickering before)
When I press the power button to power up the laptop - the Power and the CD/DVD Led lights go on, but not the HD light. And the screen stays blank.
I hear no sounds, seems the HD is completely dormant.

There are a few files on the HD that I absolutely have to have. I'm not too concerned with getting the laptop to be operational, I just need to get those files and the laptop can be recycled.

Any ideas? How to get it to power up at least once, so I could copy the files?

Answer:Toshiba Satellite power issue with AC adapter pluged in

Try taking the battery out of the laptop and powering the laptop on (with the AC adapter plugged in obviously). Another option for recovering the files would be to get an adapter to connect the laptop drive to a usb port on another pc.

Well today I got a new 2GB Ram DDR2 stick bringing my total Ram to 4GB . However my computer only recognises 3 (3070MB to be exact). I'm running Windows 7 64 bit. I'm guessing the issue has to do with *memory remap in the Bios being enabled* however I don't have that option. I tried downloading the latest Bios off toshiba.com, version 5.20, well it won't work, I tried doing it through Windows, as well as on a CD, I get error messages.

So I was wondering should I get the BIOS from somewhere else? If so where? My Bios is Phoenix TrustedCore.

Don't play with this stuff. Use BIOS from Toshiba support page only.

My computer has this strange problem. It stops completly after I connect the power supply.
What I'm doing now is let it charge while it's off and use it without the power supply.

There is a chance that it works with the power connected but usually it stops still in the boot.
If the battery runs low and I connect the supply it usually stops right after I do it, sometimes don't.

I also tried to install Linux. But happens the same (except by the fact Linux stops only in the boot)
I'm using now Windows Vista.

Thanks for the time, and sorry for the English.

Answer:Satellite A205 freeze after connecting Power Supply

Hi

In first case you should check if the power supply causes this? this means you will need to test the notebook using completely new AC adaptor.
But to be honest in my opinion this could be a serious motherboard issue?
Possibly something wrong with the power supply electronic on with the memory modules?

I think you have no resources for checking this and therefore I think the best is to contact the ASP in your country. The guys could check this and then you would know what part must be replaced.

Alright so recently my laptop's LCD screen back light seems to have been cutting out.
Every few minutes (Albeit sometimes if I leave it alone it stays on for a good while) the light goes off leaving just a faint image of whatever I was doing on my computer.

Now the real confusing part was that it seemed to kick back on if I opened and closed the lid a few times, or occasionally when I merely held the power button long enough for windows to lock.

I went ahead and swapped out the inverter for a different one and the problem decreased in how often it occurred, but it's still happening... So I'm totally at a loss for what it could be.

Any suggestions or idea's would be appreciated! Thanks.

Answer:Satellite A205 - LCD screen back light issue

Hi

You have replaced the FL inverter and this issue still appears?
That?s strange because in my opinion this sound like an FL inverter malfunction and new FL inverter should solve this problem!

Maybe it?s a display issue?. could be possible too?.

However, I think you should check the fl inverter again....

PS: did you try to change the brightness using the FN+F7 (increase) or FN+F6 (decrease)?
Check this!

Took it apart and reseated memory etc. Found top connection on rtc battery was not connected to motherboard so resoldered it.Tried charger on another laptop - worked fine. tried battery on another laptop - seems ok. Put the laptop back together and it fired up first time. Turned it on and off 20 times or more and it fired up perfectly every time. Few days later it appears dead again. Could the problem be: 1. Yesterday was working fine. Today does not power up. (Battery or power cable). Yesterday when I was turning it off, I noticed battery was at 100%.

When either the battery alone, power cable alone, or both in concert are applied, the indicator light on the front (icon of power plug) blinks green once then changes to a slow/steady yellow blink.

The machine will not boot or make any sounds or signs of life at all.

Tried holding power switch down for several seconds without the plug or battery installed. Still nothing.

Mark,

Have you tried removing the laptop battery and then plugging the laptop in and see if it will run without freezeing up ?

If the batteryless laptop runs properly when connected to the adapter, the battery has most likely kicked the bucket, shuffled off its mortal coil, and otherwise become defunct.

I have a two year old Toshiba Satellite laptop that I LOVE and has been virtually problem free since the day I bought it two years ago. I leave it plugged into power source almost all the time, since it's the only computer I use at work, so it's rarely "portable". The other day, I wanted to move it to another room so I pulled the power plug out and the computer turned off. I thought that was odd and that the battery should have kicked in since it was obviously "charged", but whatever.... So I rebooted, it turned on for a split second or so, then shut off, it had no power. When I plug it back in, it's fine. Can the battery be dead????? After two years?? I did remove the battery and put it back in, but that made no difference. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!

laptop batteries must be exercised. leaving it plugged in all the time and never using the battery is a sure way to ruin it.

Hello all. This is my first post and may I say that I have enjoyed reading the other posts and replies. My problem is this: I have a Toshiba Satellite A10 laptop that is still under warrenty until January, 2005. For the last week or so, the fan has been making noise like the blades are hitting against something. I realize that this indicates that the fan is going out. I called Toshiba and they said I could send it in to them and they would replace it. Or I could take it to an authorized Toshiba repair center. Herein lies the problem. There are no authorized repair centers within a 100 mile radius of me (per the Toshiba representative) and I am not comfortable sending my laptop in as it has sensitive information concerning my job on it. I asked if he could just send me a new fan and I would replace it and you can guess what his response to that was. He said it would void my warrenty. I told him I didn't care if he would just send the fan. No dice. I have searched everywhere I can think of for a Toshiba fan and I cannot locate one. These are the numbers off of the current fan: 3910A; MCFTS6512M05; GDM610000126. If anyone has any idea where I can get this part I would appreciate it if you would let me know. Yes, I realize that this will void my warrenty, and like I told Toshiba, I don't care. I have too much information on this laptop to lose it because of a heat problem. Thank you in advance for any replies.

My friend and I have the same computer. He's running XP Pro I have XP Home, but besides that same processors, HD, etc. His is having serious running problems. His major difference is that he runs AOL and all their junk, as well as their provided Virus Software, but this should not be slowing his computer soo much compared to mine.

His OE works every other time you try, (very suspicious) his wireless connection says "good" when it's sitting next to the modem, programs and folders and there then gone again. His Virus Software from AOL (McAfee?) doesn't seem to be working (big clue.)

I've just loaded and run AVP Free virus software and Spybot and haven't found any noticible viruses, spyware, but it seems as if there is something in there running background, hidden stuff that is using up his processor and connection access, when no software is reported to be running. It freezes a lot. He has 75% of his HD available & 1 GB RAM. We also just did a clean up and defragment. The clean-up doesn't seem to delete all the temp folder files - is that normal?

Could someone please take a look at this hijack file and let meknow if you see anything telling? I'd really appreciate the help. Thanks, sbrenusa

Answer:toshiba satellite pro m30 USB problem

Hi

could you describe the difference between the original USB cable and the USB extension cable?

The Notebook and Printer works properly with the original USB cable, but it seems that the USB extension cable is a low-cost one which does not accomplish the technical specifications and the Notebook have a problem with this issue.

For solving the problem in my opinion you could do a BIOS update, look if for your printer is a new driver available and reinstall the USB drivers!

Also you could test if with other USB cables the same problem occurs.

I was working on the computer (Toshiba satellite A 100-232), when it suddenly froze. So I had to close it from the power button. After that it enters the "In touch with tomorrow - Toshiba " screen and then it just goes black forever. I can't enter bios with F2. Heeeelp, please!

Answer:Toshiba Satellite problem..

If you have or can get hold of a boot disk (Hiren's, UBCD, any live Linux distro or even a Windows install disk) you could try booting from it, to check whether it's a hardware failure (HDD could have failed or got disconnected) - assuming it's set up to boot from CD/DVD. Is it definitely F2 for setup? Some Satellites require holding Esc on start, then F1 when you get the Toshiba screen.

Hi, please help,
While sat using the laptop the other night i suddenly had a yellow box appear in the bottom right corner telling me that the USB device could not be recognised. At the time there was no device plugged into any of the ports. I tried to troubleshoot to see what was going on but nothing got resolved so i rebooted. Still happened after restart still with nothing plugged in.
I have tried everything i know to resolve this problem. Checked device manager, all 3 usb devices are saying that they are working correctly and there are no red or yellow marks next to them. I have uninstalled them and rebooted, same problem. Now none of the 3 ports will work at all. Tried various devices in each of them and nothing except for residule power that will turn power lights on if the device has one.
Not sure if this is linked but tried to enter bios just to check settings but what i know to be my password no longer works. I HAVE NOT changed it and nobody else has access to have altered it either. I have tried backdoor passwords and they wont let me in either.
Please help, this is driving me nuts.

Hello,

I have problem with Toshiba Power Saver (TPS).
I installed SP2 on my WinXP Pro, and after this operation everything works fine. After few days TPS icon on task bar disappear. When I open Toshiba Console and then TPS I can see only incomlete standard dialog box. There is no configuration icons, but initially were, and I adjusted all settings. Now there are 4 black boxes (2 small like small icon, and 2 big like bigest icon) at the bottom and one big black on the right.
I try to reinstal TPS, but there was no effect.

Can anyone help me

Alex

Answer:Problem with Toshiba Power Saver in Tecra S1

Hello Alex

I have never saw something like that. There is obviously some problem that doesn?t allow the graphic illustration of TPS. The first step is always reinstallation of the software. I don`t know what you should do exactly. In my opinion you should try to remove TPS and SP2. Install the SP2 again and after that TPS.

If there is no success the worst solution is to preinstall the unit using recovery CD.

I recently bought a Toshiba 1555CDS laptop that was in great shape. I knew the owner and it was well taken care of. The only problem that we knew of was that the power cable had a short in it and would need a replacement as sometimes the laptop would shut off without warning due to what we thought was the cable.

Well I bought a new power cable and that isn't the problem. I have come to realize that it is actually the power connection in the rear of the laptop that I plug into. If I wiggle it or turn it a little I can usually get the power light to stay on and then I can turn on the laptop. Unfortunately it is now at the point that if I move the cable slightly that I lose the power and it shuts off (the battery has no life left and I actually have removed it).

Can someone tell me if this is a common problem and if there is an easy fix? I see in the hole that there is the post in the middle and then a metal tab on one side that appears to hold it in place. I am not sure if I try to bend that tab to hold the connection tighter if that will do anything or not. I don't want to mess with it that is not recommended. I am sure that as many laptops that are out there that there has to be someone that has run into this type of problem before. Can you please give me some advice? Thank you!

you'll need to check keyboard connection to MB. if it firmly connected, then replace the keyboard. it's a stuck key failure,

hello:

i have a toshiba satelite pro 4270 laptop, and am having a few problems with the ram. i bought it off ebay and the ram was listed as 192mb. when i recived the laptop, it only showed up as 64mb. when i went on the laptop the next day, the ram was shown as 192mb, shortly afterwerd i got a bsod, then a "stack dump" error or something of the sort. The day after i decided to install xp, as the ram had shown up as 192mb (which is enough to run xp). I installed xp and it ran very laggy and slow, and when i went to "system" the ram showed up as 64mb.
can any one post a link to a recent SIS Savage I/X driver, because the graphical performance, and the clearness in which xp is displayed is attrocious!

Can anyone give me an answer as to why this is happening, could it be a ram problem or motherboard problem?

I bought this machine back in February and it seemed to work OK, but lately I've been having some problems with it. Specifically, the damn thing shuts down with no warning at random times. There's no mention of any problems in the event log, and it does it in Win98SE, Win2k, WinXP & Linux, so it's fairly certain it's a hardware fault.

Initially I thought it was an overheating problem as before it shuts down, the CPU fan is going like the clappers. I sent it back to a repair shop as it was still under warranty and they claim they replaced the main board, however the problem is still there.

I tried installing a temperature monitoring program, but none of the ones I've tried can detect a temp monitoring chip (eg MBM5).

So I'm at my wits end and I'm hoping some kind person can point me in a new direction. What I'd like to do is take the thing apart and check the outlet for the fan isn't blocked as there doesn't seem to be much air coming out from the vent, but the case has a lot of tricky catches that I'm worried I might break the case. I don;t mind invalidating the warranty by opening it, because quite frankly their repair depot is terrible, they didn't repair the fault and they managed to lose the power supply.

Did you try any of these? http://http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cg...ily=1073768663

Also , I HIGHLY recommend that when you get the particular driver you need to copy it and then copy it again!

I was really worried. So I hurry carried him up. Powered on and BAM. It didn't load Windows 8.1 but it Showed something like: "No Bootable Device Found. Please Restart". First I though It was HardDisk Problem.. So I brough HDD to my Uncle. He tested HDD on other Computer a He said that HDD is OK. So I tried to Remove and Insert HDD Back but Still any Change.. . I think my Uncle is Right... I even tried to Make Bootable UEFI Windows 8.1 Setup USB Disk. Setup Loaded Successfully. But It was Stucking at "Setup Is Starting" about 4 Hours. So I powered him Down.. Then I tried Setup Again. I googled some help with DISKPART. But there is even Problem that when i open Setup CMD (SHIFT+F10) and Type /diskpart it just shows something Like:
Microsoft DiskPart version 6.3.9600

Please Guys Help me. I'm just 14 Year Old Boy.

My Laptop is Toshiba Satellite L855-14C

Answer:Problem with My Toshiba Satellite L855-14C

I think the HDD may have bad sectors, possibly in the boot sector area.

Connect the HDD to another PC, run this utility to check the SMART status and check the number of bad sectors/blocks.

Hi,
I have a Toshiba Satellite A215-S4817 laptop, I tried to burn some backup data to a dvd-rw disc, it started to burn, but then I received an error saying the burn failed and the disc will be unusable again, then the drive opened. Ever since that, the drive won't detect any DVD's I put in, but CDs it will. Don't think the drive's faulty because I have the laptop for about 6 months, and had absolutely no problems with the drive whatsoever, ever. I have spent like 6 hours looking online for any solutions. The "great" thing is, I recently reinstalled Windows Vista, and haven't installed absolutely none of my programs yet, which are on backup DVDs. And now I'm bored. The drive shows up as "working" in the device manager. And the drive's seen in the My Computer. The drive's name is Pioneer DVD-RW DVR K17A ATA. Any suggestions on what to do, (other than replacement) because my parents had to spend like a $100 not too long ago on a display problem with the same laptop. (I'm having headaches with this laptop.)

Answer:Toshiba Satellite DVD-RW Drive problem...

The drive makes a funny noise, by the way, when trying to read the DvDs, but runs normal when trying to read CDs. I tried every soultion there ever is (through Google).

Model A35-S159. After installing a new battery, and getting a new power supply, sometimes, but not always, the battery discharges while on AC. The AC light stays on while the battery discharges. The battery always recharges when I turn the laptop off.

Sometimes I can turn it on and it won't discharge while on AC. Other times I turn it on and it immediately starts discharging. I can tell because the orange/green charge light doesn't come on. And still other times, it will stay at 100% charged on AC, and then suddenly, for no apparent reason, the charge light goes off and it starts discharging.

Any ideas would be appreciated

Answer:Toshiba Satellite Battery Problem

Good Evening petef, the batteries in these machines contain sensitive intelligent circuitry that often need a special charging routine procedure when they are replaced.

This battery circuitry requires to be accepted by the machine when a battery is replaced, this is to realign the battery condition and charge schedule with the actual computer.

It may be worth your while asking Toshiba about this problem directly.

Others may have different ideas.

Hi! So I've been constantly getting this notifications from Toshiba Tempro saying that I haven't read some messages. It said that I hadn't read two messages (one from April, the other from May), but I had. No matter how many times I opened Tempro and read the messages, it kept saying that I hadn't.

A few days ago, I apparently received another one, and now it says that I have one message to read (so I suppose that it marked the other two as read).

I have trying disabling Toshiba Tempro, but it starts up again every time I restart my laptop. I don't think that this is because the computer (a Satellite P50-C) is not working correctly, because it's only a few months old (I bought it in April).

How do I mark those messages as read?

If this is not possible, how do I permanently disable Toshiba Tempro?

Well, I'm new here and better say " Hello " first!!
My girlfriend dropped her thermos on her laptop (see above) last week and wound up with a black screen and the dreaded "Check cable connection!" PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel PXE ROM "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected device"
So I went into DOS Setup Utility.
Went to "BOOT" and 1.HDD?SSD showed NO harddrive.
Waited patently for a new online purchased harddrive (a little smaller then original...500gb) to arrive and installed it today.
Now the Utility is showing that it recognizes it.
Tried to to use the Toshiba Restore disc we burned upon purchase and also the three cd System discs with zero results.
Went back into the laptop, removed the bottom and checked all connections and cleaned contacts at harddrive, cmos bat., Cd etc.
Entered the Utility again and see:
1. HDD/SSD WDC WD5000BPUT
2. USB Blank
3.ODD MatshitaDVD-Ram
4.LAN Atheros Boot Agent
All of the data on the old harddrive has been saved so we agree to just try to restore this puppy back to factory specs on the new harddrive but obviously it appears more troublesome than just popping in the new unit.
Of course this laptop is out of warrenty and being on a limited budget I hate to tell her to continue throwing more money into it, motherboard...cd reader...etc.
I've read several (hours and hours) threads and suggestions on downloading software uti... Read more

Answer:Toshiba Satellite Pro C850 problem

Greetings, mendoAu, and welcome to MajorGeeks.

Nice first post - very informative. Thank you.

This might turn out to be a tough one without the ability to burn bootable disks. If you reorder your start menu to ODD MatshitaDVD-Ram first can you boot to any of the Toshiba disks?

Be patient - I'm sure other MGs will jump in with suggestions.

This old laptop has been a fine machine but my 14 years old nice decided to delete some system files,
(by mistake so she said) and to fix the problems,
she installed a copy of win Me (over w98se) that a friend gave her,
and uninstalled win me install info in add rem,
and now I get lot's of flags, bsods and some programs won't uninstall or open, on top of this problem the driver rescue CD is missing, lost and nowhere to be found. In order for me to fix this problem the only option I've is to fdisk and reinstall w98se,
which I still have the original copy of. Toshiba doesn't have any original utility CD's to give or sell for the past 3 years,
I've visited Toshiba downloads for my laptop model but they have the driver for the hardware: bios, display, modem, sound and onboard mouse to download,
and this enough for doing a clean install, but what I'm really looking for is the original Utility CD's that came with the machine, I've searched all over the web for it but I couldn't find it anywhere. Maybe some of you wiz can help me on this one, there will be a billion of thanks from me for your help

This is a problem that I have to admit is completely new to me, hopefully one of you guys may have some experience.
When booting up it stops responding, to continue boot up you just need to move the mousepad or press a key, you may need to do this many times to get it to eventually boot into windows XP. Once it has booted into windows it seems to work fine, the only other problem I have noticed is that 3 keys have stopped working, A,S and Z, which I am sure are unconnected with this problem.
Anyone any ideas?

Answer:Toshiba Satellite boot up problem

Do you have a lot of dust, dirt, and hair in the cpu fan, keyboard, etc.
The Satellite is a pretty decent laptop, but the original hard drive seems to fail a bit early... Open the case to see which brand and model of the hard drive, then go to that manufactures web site (unless it is Toshiba) and run the drive fitness test.
As far as I know, the Toshaba drives do not yet have a drive fitness test, but Toshiba is as likely to use Western Digital, Hitachi, Seagate, Samsung, or Fujitsu... as their own.
