Hi Guys,
I recently downloaded bbc iplayer, when I click on it, it - rightly says I have no programmes to watch.
I click through the "download programmes" button which brings me to the iplayer home page - so far so good.
I select (for example) TV, John Bishops Britain, then select download options, for iplayer desktop-"click" and ....drumroll, nothing, nyada, zilch!!
I de installed and reinstalled thinking perhaps there was a corrupt file somewhere, this made no difference.
I then selected download for windows media player and got this message;
Software upgrade required
To download BBC iPlayer programmes please upgrade your version of Windows Media Player. Click here to get the latest version from Microsoft.
So far as I can see for my OS (XP pro) wmp11 IS the latest version available and the one I'm using.
It's really quite frustrating, I have had no luck on the support site or, so far by trawling through the net looking for answers. Anyone got any ideas?
Thanks in anticipation and best regards,
Brian.
I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
Instead of downloading it through the desktop program download them on line they should go strait to your Iplayer desktop
go to http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/
go to the required show
scroll under the video
click "download options"
then "for iplayer desktop"
I have been trying to uninstall the BBC download manager, each time it gets to a point that says "Error occured while attempting to read from file C:\WINDOWS\Installer\bbciPlayer_client_live.msi" I believe it is a Konti error.
Have made sure that there are no downloads in the manager as this might interfere if peer to peer was working.
Hope someone might know the answer please?
Ron.
when your pc is booting as soon as it does keep pressing f8 or f5 try f8 first then choose safe mode. in safemode go to control panel, add or remove and try to remove the program if you still get an error, try removing the program by going to start all programs bcc i player and uninstall it that way.
or you can locate that file remove it, remove the folder from program files and remove from regeitry.
try this program

I am trying to download BBC iPlayer desktop in th UK. If I click the install button I get something like a revolving barber's pole and nothing else happens. I have Windows 7 Pro 64 Bit but I use IE8 32 Bit.
I didn't have a problem with my XP Computer using IE8 and I have posted on the BBC help forum. I have turned off NIS and that didn't help and it has been suggested that something is blocking the download, but what?
Yesterday I downloaded Windows Live Photo Gallery and there wasn't a problem there. When I click install for BBC iPlayer Desktop there isn't any traffic through my router.
Any thoughts please?

Hi guys, I've searched for this but couldn't find the solution. The problem is that after a few minutes...like 20 or so. The download on my Windows 7 stops working...Take a look at the picture.
It says connecting and the lights on the modem start blinking as if it is downloading but it doesn't. I can still browse websites but can't download even in Opera, Mozilla or IE. I've been using Spybot and KIS [Kaspersky Internet Security] for 4 years now, so I don't think there is a problem of virus or malware. Please help!
I'm using a slow network and need to download windows 10 iso file with IDM for the sake of resume ability. Media creation tool gave me too many challenges because of this slow network.
Anyone with links to download either the 64bit ISO or preferably one with both architecture?
I want to leave my computer downloading overnight.
Thank you for your help guys.
Hello mwaramba,

Guys, I've updated KIS to 2010 and I think it is the problem as I exited the application and then started the download on IDMan. It started to work. But why KIS is doing this. Is there any settings problem with the firewall?? The problem still continues with KIS turned on.!!!!
10 more repliesMy Toshiba A300, running Vista SP1, has stopped allowing email attachments to be opened, will not produce any vision on the BBC iPlayer, or even download (for example) Silverlight from Microsoft itself. I can even send myself a hotmail email with an attachment, from the laptop, and then try to open the email when 'received' and it won't allow it, saying "Internet Explorer cannot open this website. It may be unavailable, please try later'. I am running IE8, but did a restore back to IE7 and found it the same. This problem seems to have appeared in the last two months and apart from disabling firewalls and virus protection (tried with no effect) I am at a loss as to what to try. Any ideas?
Sounds like file/folder permissions are damaged. Do you have any more luck if you *temporarily* disable UAC? click here
1 more repliesHi all, as the title, I want to download TV programmes from iplayer and store on usb stick or other memory card. Finding it difficult, can I have your advice please, using Win7 as OS. I need to be able to record the prog onto the mem card so that it can be watched on another tele.

As a follow up I did a reeset and selected recommended settings still same result
7 more repliesI've been using IDM (6.25 build 3 most recently) happily for quite some time. For Christmas I purchased an online class which streams (?) from a .com website. I paid $128 for the class which remains online. Although I can view it anytime, I'd like to have it on my hard drive so I can put it on my laptop and watch it in bed instead of sitting at my desktop computer. Also I've purchased classes in the past and the website went out of business and *poof* my purchased classes went with them!!
When I use IDM to download the .flv file and play it back using Windows media player, I only get audio...no video.
Can anyone suggest:
-- what's going wrong?
-- a solution
-- another program I can use?
Thanks for the assist!
LuniLadi
IDM is currently at 6.25 build 12. IDM only downloads files it doesn't play them. That's the job of your media player. An alternate media player you might try is VLC available at Major Geeks.
I uninstalled the previous iPlayer downloads as it had stopped working on my Dell Inspiron17R - OS Windows 8.1
Any attempts to install new downloader or programmes fail. Reported this to BBC and this was their final advice:
Thanks for contacting BBC iPlayer Support.
We understand you have experienced difficulties reinstalling BBC iPlayer Downloads.
We would suggest you try uninstalling and reinstalling again as we've since updated the BBC iPlayer Downloads application.
I have tried to do this and it appears to download to VLC player location, but I can't do anything else with it after that. I can't find an app that seems to work for it. Streaming programmes is the option I am left with and not always satisfactory as internet connection not great,
Am I missing something that I should be doing to be able to download from iPlayer?
Any advice appreciated.

I have attached some screens showing what I have mean, maybe someone could help me because it's driving me insane...
1. Before.
2. After.
It looks you have a problem in IDM's dynamic file segmentation. Try to download the IDM again from its site, make a fresh install and check if the problem persists.

A free download manager designed to integrate seamlessly with Windows 7 is now available from Microsoft. Dubbed the Microsoft Download Manager, the utility is designed, as the label implies, to help users administer their downloads beyond the boundaries of the browser. More often than not, downloading very large files can be problematic, especially in the context of an unreliable connection. It is precisely in scenarios like these that a download manager will carry out any download tasks to the end, unlike browsers missing this functionality.
?The Microsoft Download Manager enables you to download files from the Internet in a more reliable and faster way than using a browser alone. Using the Download Manager makes it easier to download large files such as an application or multimedia files,? Microsoft explained.
According to the Redmond company, the Microsoft Download Manager comes to the table with support not only for Windows 7, but also for Windows Vista and Windows XP SP2 and SP3. Microsoft Download Manager was designed to work with Internet Explorer 8, IE7 and IE6 but also with Firefox 3 and Firefox 2.

More repliesHi all:
From the MS Store.
I bought a FULL VERSION Vista Home Premium DVD actual disc not the downloaded version.
With the right to a FULL VERSION Win 7 when it releases on Oct 22nd.
I am thinking of getting it by downloading it from MS.
My question is really Simple.
How do I burn the iso to disk after Downloading it with the Download Manager to make it Bootable as if I got the actual disk?
A friend of mine said he downloaded his his was Vista without the Download Manager and there were (3)- Separate files and couldn't figure out how to make it a bootable disk so he returned it for the actual media.
NOW if I download my Win 7 Full Version disk to my Drive using the download manager, WILL IT be a single iso file so that I can burn it as a bootable disk?
And if it is suppose to be 3- separate files then how do I go about combining them to make it bootable?
I'd hate to choose the download option and not be able to make use of it, Only to have to pay FULL Price for an actual copy.
When I could just get my Free Copy for the price of Shipping and of coarse tax.
Any advice or Links I'd be most Grateful......
It should be a single ISO file.
-
How to burn an ISO image to disc..
Its simple really, download this, save it somewhere.
When its done downloading, go to the location you saved it, and extract the .zip file.
After that, open the folder it created and run 'IsoBurner'
Click on this;
Attachment 29934
Then locate the .iso file and select it.
Then burn it, you should also set the speed to the lowest possible to ensure their are no problems burning.
Sorry if its not that clear, I'm half awake about to go to sleep.

I had installed Free Download Manager. Since then I was unable to download any Zipped File attached to my mail. Why. Further downloading You Tube videos too is not always possible. Sometime it works, other times it stops after downloading about 134 KB. Is there some kind of conflict in FDM and any other Programme already installed on my computer. After Uninstalling FDM everything works fine.

Your computer stats (all kind) are not very helpful. What OS are you using.? Is your download manager a 3rd party software prog or are you using the capability of resuming downloads on the MS site? Another point... Every time my computer crashes??? Does that happen a lot? if so, you may have a whole different kind of problem.

I am having big problems with my laptop and so I came on here to download and run some malware tools. i have a desktop which is linked to my husbands computer wirelessly. my system uses windows xp and i just discovered the downloadable digital games from the ea store. i install ea download manager onto my computer and then when i log in to it the two games i purchased say they are connecting and seem to be attempting to download. then i get an error message that says the computer lost connection during the download. that is as far as i have gotten. i have gone as far as uninstalling and reinstalling explorer 7 because the techs insist that the ea download was built off the microsoft explorer program and that maybe a file or something i've downloaded is giving me the error message. so i've gone through my computer deleting games and other programs that are rarely used because i have spent fifty dollars on two sims games that i cannot download from the ea store. please help.

4 more repliesWas trying to download freeocr from their website (unsuccessfully), when I noticed an increase in pop ups. When checking the uninstall list of programs saw this one. Googled it and not happy with what I saw.
I uninstalled it, but what I found on internet suggested downloading other programs to be sure all aspects of it were deleted from system. As you can guess this is how I ended up with the problem to begin with.
Have you had experience with this before?
Thanks.

How do I access the download manager in Windows XP Media Center Edition?
There is not a built-in "Download Manager" within any version of Windows. What are you trying to download?
I realized you might be trying to download media content for MCE. If so you need to setup the MCE portion of the OS.
i have a horribly slow internet connection.. 26.4 bps and my isp kicks me off after 5 hrs and i have to redial.. does anybody know a good download manager that can redial for me and automatically start my downloads back up? i'm using DAP now but it sucks.. it wont automatically pick my downloads back up.. i see there is a redial feature in the options but it doesnt do anything.. maybe i need the full version.. i dunno.. but is there another good program out there that will do it? and one without spyware would be nice.. DAP sucks with that too
sorry if this has been asked many times before.. but the search doesnt work and i'm not a regular on the software forums.. thanks
I assume you are on dial-up....
Anyway, try:
TrueDownloader:
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4551
Totally free....
I was using Real Downloader, (not great, but it worked for me) but I recently formatted my drive and lost it, now I can't find it online to download.
Don't need anything fancy. Something free or very cheap, NOT loaded with spyware, want to be able to pause the downloads and resume later. Something that can handle a bunch of downloads (or at least put them in queue) at a time if necessary.
Oh and if you are downloading multiple files with the same name, I'd like it to create a new name for the second file instead of having to type one in myself.
Thanks!
I am looking for a download manager that can download multiple application files from a website simultaneously and by itself. For example click this link.
http://www.aimutation.com/dload.php?action=viewall
There are about 100 or 200 .exe files that I want to download from that page and about 3 subpages deep. I have dial up for one, so I don't want to sit here for hours while I click each one and wait for it to download. I've tried a couple of download managers and all they will download is the image files and such. Please help, what manager can I use that will do this for me?
Reget Deluxe
First select all the files you want to download. Then start the download process. You will want to use the schedule option after that i.e. start one download then estimiate how long it will take to download that file and schedule the next download to start after the estimated time and repete. It will continue downloading all the files at the scheduled times. It will resume a broken download (disconnects and etc). It's a great program but it's shareware.
I need to get AVG for a new PC but download fails on dial-up disconnection. What Download Manager could I use to get it?Cheers and thanks.
an old version of getright? nice small download. use net-transport myself but it's a bigger file than the early getright files click here

For Windows, you can go click here and type in XP (for example), click "Search", that will list all the updates available, select the ones you want by clicking "Add", then click on "View Basket", click "Download" and choose where you want to save them on your hard drive.

What would you recommend is the best download manager? How do you download from peer sharing programs with this? I don't know what I would put into the site address box they ask for.
I don't use peer sharing programs, but I do use FreshDownload from:click hereIt's does exactly what it says on the tin, has no adware etc and will Resume downloads (if a website supports it) when necessary.First used FreshDownload with dial-up many years ago and it's just as effective with broadband.
2 more repliesNeed a good download manager. Trying to help a small village set up their computer. low price or free would be nice as they have little money. Can anyone help? Thank You.
I need a good FREE download manager. I'm having trouble finding one that's not riddled with spyware.
I recently downloaded and installed one of those free download managers.
I had been using one called "WellGet", but it stopped working for some reason, and the author no longer has a web site.
I know a lot of those things have spyware, adware, and malware. I had been using WellGet for several years, and had no indication of any infections from it, or that it even contained any of those things itself.
I have a primitive archaic dial up, which is why I have even considered and used a download manager. The capability to resume downloads is critical when you've been downloading something for hours and then it disconnects. My virus defs are approaching 40MB now, and the daily updates I do, manually by the way, just about require the ability to resume if there is a disconnect. There is nothing quite as bothersome as having a large download interrupted and then having to start all over again.
I would switch to broadband and be done with the whole issue, but I live in a rural area and broadband is just not that reliable. I've considered satellite, but that seems like it would be just as much hassle as dial up.
In any case, I Googled on download managers, and came across a link for reviews by that Spybot S&D guy. He recommended "LeechGet" and "Download Express" as spware and adware free, but I tried them and was not very satisfied with their GUI
So, I am currently trying "Free Download Manager" (FDM). I use McAfee SiteAdvisor... Read more
Hi BobJam,
Stick with FDM, you won't get a better download manager - it's versatile, can resume downloads, and you can even tweak the number of download connections into which your download is split to do concurrent downloading on parts of a single file. Two thumbs up as the best download tool - only on Windows, however afaik.

What do you guys think is a good download manager that is NOT a download accelerator?
Thanks for any help.
I like and use Firefox, but to me that Download Manager
is nothing more than an annoyance.
Every time I download something that pops up and all I
do with it is stop what I'm doing and close it.
I searched and couldn't even find it on my computer
anywhere.
Appreciate any tips!
the downloads box thing is part of firefox so you can't get rid of it.
however what you can do is go to the firefox extensions website and get Download Statusbar
instead of bringing up the downloads box it brings up a small bar at the bottom of the screen that hardly intude at all (plus there's a 'mini mode' which sends it to the status bar as an icon)
i use it myself and it's realy good plus it tells you more about the file bieng downloaded etc
Can anyone recomend a good download manager that does't spy or bombard me with ads?The only feature I want is "download resume" capability.
There's a few free ones here:click hereAlso, have you checked the download section on this site? I expect there are some there as well.

I'm stymied. Do you think I have a virus(AVG and Spybot cant find it if I do). What would you recommend that I do?
Thanks

I have seen offered "Download Managers" which promise to increase the speed of downloading.Question: As I am already on 2mg broadband does (or will) a "Download Manager" improve my downloading speed or is it only for "dial-up"?Advice would be appreciated
If it's free and from a reliable source, try it.If it costs, forget it.

This is a two-part question that breaks down into the categories of freeware and software you have to pay for. In specific, I'm looking for informed users of download managers.About 3 years ago, I tried asking the Wikipedia editors of the comparative table of download managers to update it (because it's woefully incomplete) and the short answer was "Do it yourself." The long answer was a bit better, but the excuse given for why most DMs weren't listed at all was because they only list DMs that have a page on Wikipedia. When I searched Wikipedia and posted a list of all the DMs on Wikipedia that were NOT in the table, that's when I got blown off. Not being an expert on the topic (although I've tried a few from the very LONG list that are available) of DMs and audio/video DMs, I wisely declined. So, here I am, looking to BC members to see if I can get a good idea of which DMs are top of the heap. Please keep in mind a few points:I dumped Download Accelerator Plus because of the adware and some other issues.I am dumping Free Download Manager because it doesn't allow me to pause my downloads.I had problems with Go!Zilla when I tried using it.I've used LeechGet and JDownloader, but formed no opinion yet.I'm also dumping FlashGet 3.7 because there is no way to completely disable P2P connections with it, and also because it's trying to get me to install the Simplified Chinese Language Pack when I haven't visited any sites that ... Hello,
I use LeechGet. It's completely free with no adware or adverts. It's everything you'd expect from a download manager.
Does anyone know of a good free download manager. Or is it safer not to use one at all.
I recomend you to use " Download Accelerator"
it has the fast downloading performance and easy to use.

i have found download accelarator plus 5.3 to be very good.
6 more repliesI recently gave up my Direcway satellite broadband and returned to dial-up . My Dial-up ISP has an accelerator program (Propel) that works pretty good for browsing but is useless for downloads. I get about 2.7kbps. A simple definitions update from AVG takes almost 45 minutes for a 5Mb file. I looked on www.download.com and found quite a number of utilities after searching on "Download Manager". Among them were Kazaa and a couple of other names I've seen associated with spyware.
So I'm looking for a recommendation on the best free download manager and also whether there are any gotchas associated with download managers in general.
I'm running Win98SE with a MyIE2 browser on a P2 Dell desktop. Any and all thoughts appreciated.

I just signed up with Easynews and I tried to use some shitty Firefox plugin as a real download mananger and it either:
A) Won't resume after I pause
B) Corrupts my huge file (1.9GB per slot) downloads
What's a good/free SPYWARELESS download mananger?
I have used GetRight for a while and liked how it can connect multiple times to a server and really increase the download speed, but I can never figure out how to schedule downloads or get things to download one after another.
I also used Flashget for a bit, but got sick of the ad's.
Basically, I am after a download manager that allows mulitple connections to the server, allows for scheduled downloads and will allow me to set things to download one after another.
Suggestions?
Late,
i am looking for a good free download manager does anyone know of a good one?
What is, in your oppinion, the best download manager?
Mine goes to GetRight 4.5c (but I also heard good words about Download Accelerator 5.2.0.4)
I'm using download accelerator 5.0 I think, haven't had major issues with it, I only use it for getting better download rates for large files though, believe it or not, I'm still on dial up.
Not sure if people still use these, and if so why they use them?I haven't for a while but when downloading massive files I figure they may be useful...not sure if they offer any performance advantage also by using multiple threads or something?Any thoguhts?
No i don't, at least not since upgrading from dial up a long, long time ago

1 more repliesFree Download Manager (freedownloadmanager.org). I've used it for quite a while. When I first found it it was the only one that I could find that was actually free and useful. Probably different now, but I dont really have a reason to switch other than just curiousity.
It's loaded with alot of features. I like the bandwidth controls and how it can organize your files.
Only one problem I have is on my Vista Desktop. It doesnt like IE8 very much, IE8 crashes when you attempt to close it. But works fine on my Vista Laptop with IE8.
It's open source, high traffic user forum are just a couple of other good reasons to trust and use it.
I'm open to alternatives though, so am looking forward to other opinions.
I've bought the Student 32-bit version of Win7. I received a confirmation email with my order number and Key.
Successfully downloaded both the .exe file and the ISO file. I don't want to run the ISO file if I can possibly avoid it BUT the .exe file doesn't run. The Digital River download manager opens, and then says that I need to be connected to the Internet for it to run...when i AM connected! So I don't even get as far as putting the key code in.
Found the Customer service button, which asked for Oder no or email address + last 5 digits of credit card details - it regognises neither of these. I'm pretty sure I bought it directly from the Microsoft website, so perhaps the exe. file is corrupted? Still doesn't explain why it doesn't recognise my order
Any ideas?
I've also tried rebooting but makes no difference

Just curious, why dont you want to run the ISO? it is the prefered method of installation. Plus if you don twant to burn a dvd, and have a USB stick you could install from there.
