Nvidia Mulls Over Porting PhysX to OpenCL

Question: Nvidia Mulls Over Porting PhysX to OpenCL

Nvidia Mulls Over Porting PhysX to OpenCL - X-bit labs

"Nvidia May Allow GPU PhysX to Work on ATI Hardware

Nvidia Corp. said that it could eventually port computing of physics effects created using PhysX middleware to OpenCL application programming interface (API) and capable hardware. This may actually enable acceleration of physics effects processing on graphics chips to work on ATI Radeon hardware.

At present PhysX middle-ware is used to make physics effects on various platforms, including video game consoles and personal computers. In virtually all the cases processing of physics effects is performed on the central processing units ? x86 chips in case of PC, Cell in case of PlayStation 3 or PowerPC in case of Xbox 360 ? however, there are handful of games that can take advantage of physics computing on Nvidia GeForce graphics processing units (GPUs) that support CUDA technology. The latter is virtually Nvidia?s proprietary API and is naturally not supported by chips developed by ATI, graphics business unit of Advanced Micro Devices. Due to such limitations not a lot of game developers are implementing GPU PhysX and enabling acceleration using DirectCompute or OpenCL is one of the best ways to popularize processing of physics effects on graphics processors.

?In the future it is a possibility that we could use OpenCL, but at the moment CUDA works great. [Our GPU] architecture allows for acceleration by other things like OpenCL. Nvidia works very closely with The Khronos Group, actually Neil Trevett is president of the group and he?s part of Nvidia, so we?ve been driving that standard also, and it?s an excellent standard,? said Nadeem Mohammad, a director of PhysX product management at Nvidia, in an interview with Bit-tech web-site.

Porting PhysX to OpenCL is a natural thing to do since the standard is supported both by central processing units (CPUs) and GPUs, hence, this would make PhysX middle-ware much more universal, something, which is important to compete against providers of competing engines, such as Havok, a division of Intel Corp.

However, Mr. Mohammad warned about possible performance issues with non-Nvidia hardware, claiming that ATI is much behind Nvidia when it comes to GPU computing.

?If we start using OpenCL, then there?s a chance that the features would work on ATI, but I have no idea what the performance would be like. Previously, looking at things like [email protected], ATI GPU computing performance seems to be behind Nvidia. That probably reflects the fact that their GPU computing solution is probably a couple of generations behind ours,? said Mr. Mohammad.

Nvidia did not elaborate when it plans to port PhysX to OpenCL."

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I made inf file for g210m on toshiba u500 for 195.81 beta driver.
Just download driver and add it to unpacked directory where are other infs and install.

Now you can use OpenCL, CUDA, DirectCompute, Physx (enable it in CP) and nVidia GPU Acceleration for Adobe Flash Player (install new 10.1 beta 2 flash player by adobe)

This inf is optimized for DEV_0A74&SUBSYS_FF401179 g210m.
If you want me to add more devices please post what devices you want and i will but you will have to test it.

Hope this helps.

Answer:Satellite U500 - INF file with OpenCL, CUDA for Nvidia driver

Thanks for that but usually it?s advisable to use the Toshiba graphic card driver due to the GPU overheating protection.
Other drivers don?t support such protection and the usage of such drivers can cause an higher temperature which could affect the GPU chip?.

I have Win 10 Pro 64 bit on a Dell Vostro 3460 with Intel Core i7, 8 GB RAM and Crucial 1TB SSD. All Dell diagnostics pass, Windows fully updated.
About 2 weeks ago (April 2016), the Windows Update for Version 1511 finally arrived and it is now at Build 10586.218
A few days (2 or 3) before that, IE 11 and Edge started to misbehave. It's possible that some final pre-upgrade-to-1511 upgrade did this - it is equally possible just a co-incidence.
The symptoms are that IE11 will open up but the address bar does not get populated and after a few seconds, it just disappears again. Edge does similar. When this happens, I sometimes try Firefox but that takes a long time to start - at least it starts. Chrome usually starts within a short time. There is no sure way to get IE and Edge back again. Rebooting sometimes does it. Usuallly, I have to use Turn Windows Features on and off to turn IE 11 off then on again (which given a restart is needed both times is timeconsuming).

I just got a new Desktop its a intel i5 655k 3.2ghz I just installed a Radeon HD 5850 graphic card it runs perfect I can max out everything thrown at it but I bought a couple of games that have Physx Metro 2033 and cryostasis these are the only games my card struggles with maxed out with physx on, I was wondering should I step over to the darkside and commit to nvidia or should I stay with my beloved ati radeon. Things like this is why I hate nvidia they know ati is winning over PC owners so they get slick and tell game developers to make a way to get Pc owners to crossover to their product. Ati or Amd radeon do the same thing develop your own physx superior to nvidia's and crush them for good!!!!!!!

I noticed in the control panel ?large icons? view there are two entries for nvidia. One for nvidia control panel and one for physx properties. The physx icon is missing, just a blank sheet. And if clicked it opens nothing, I forget the message about something missing that comes up. It?s almost as if it?s been removed / left over from old drivers (they always update with every feature update). Currently I run a 980ti on 385.69 drivers which seem to be great and rock solid. My question is are the physx properties purely taken care of within nvidia control panel now? I see a section for physx if I open nvidia control panel

I only have two XFX-5770 ATI cards in a crossfire configuration.

I also have a Nvidia PhysX programs installed. I assumed they were installed by Steam or some other game.

The questions are;
1) Do I need this PhysX application?
2) Does the ATI cards use them?
3) Will it be safe to delete All Nvidia/PhysX applications.

PS: Never had Nvidia cards installed either.

Answer:PhysX w/o Nvidia Cards. Only ATI.

1. Yes.

2. Not even if you try real hard.

3. You start deleting it then the game(s) that installed it will not work.

For the few games that use Physx it is required. If you have a compatible Nvidia card and the game supports it it will use GPU accelerated Physx, for all others if falls back to a software render and is still required even for this.

When I tryed to install the latest beta driver for my Nvidia 450 it failed, so i went one by one in custom installation installing each thing seperately. I could install all but the PhysX System Software 9.12.1031 driver.
Don't know what to do, or what it is.

Answer:Nvidia 310.54 PhysX Fail

Is there Physx uninstall option in add/remove programs?
If so, uninstall it first.

You could also try ticking the 'perform clean' option when upgrading using custom install option.
(Physx is the nvidia physics software package. Some games simply won't work if it is not installed.)

The last option would be to download and install Driver Fusion and use the analyze and delete function for physx. Drivr Fusion was once known as DriverSweeper

ie

Select PhsyX>Analyze
Delete

Create a manual Restore Point before hand, just in case.

(Watch the Driver Fusion installer. There is an additional app option attached you need to untick.)

You should now be able to install physx.

Hi all,

Has been a long long time since i've returned to these forums, but i've always got the best advice and info from u guys!

Basically, i am getting confused with the hype of Physx and dedicating a GPU to act fully on Physx.

I have an intel chipset P35 Asus P5KE-E mobo which will support crossfire etc but i am sticking with Nvidia. I currently have a 9600 GT overclocked and want to upgrade to a 280 gtx. Can i whack the 9600 gt into the second (x4) pci express port and dedicate the whole card to physx whilst having the 280 in the pci-e x16 slot??

I'm sure i have read that this is possible but knowing my luck, it has to be in an sli capable mobo?!

Thanks in advance

Jonny

Answer:2 Nvidia Cards on non-sli board (for physx?)

it has to be SLI because ATI and nVidia uses different i think technologies and it works on a different basis
but there is a mobo which will be coming out that supports both Crossfire and SLI
i think intel will do it but i cant remember what model it will be :S

Hello
i encounter very low frame rate when i play games using Nvidia physX like mirror's edge (the game runs on 7 frames per second only)
When i turn off the physX from game options frame rate is about 45
The problem is that some other games like metro 2033 doesn't allow you to turn off PhysX making the game unplayable
Is there any way to overcome this problem
*system specs below*

Answer:Games using Nvidia physX are very laggy

Your Nvidia GT 610m really isn't designed to handle PhysX. It is to be expected that your games run slowly with it turned on.

Hey,

As of late I've been making use of NVIDIA Experience to install all of my drivers. It worked perfectly up until tonight when I decided I wanted to change over to the Beta drivers. The attempt to install the Beta driver failed completely so I decided to do a complete re-installation of all my graphics drivers.

Following the instructions on this page (http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/how-to-reinstall-video-drivers-quick-guide.52502/), I removed all traces of Nvidia software from my PC.

After using CCleaner for a final tidy up and a restart, I reinstalled Nvidia Experience and installed the latest graphics driver. Everything was successful except the installation of Physx which failed.

A quick Google of the issue suggested it was a corrupt installation I was trying to upgrade from but control panel registered no installation of Physx and I assume the previous process should have removed all traces of the driver from my system.

I'm not sure where to go from here, direct manual installation of the driver failed as well and now, having recently bought Dragon Age : Ultimate, I'm unable to play it due to this issue.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

What version are you trying to install?

The 1613 error indicates that the installer is unable to uninstall the previous version (perhaps 9.10.0224?).

Try to manually uninstall the previous version via Add/Remove Programs; if that fails, use http://majorgeeks.com/Windows_Installer_CleanUp_Utility_d4459.html

So, now that the 9800 GX2 cards have dropped way down in price to what I payed for my 9800 GTX it seems silly to get another GTX for SLI.

So where can I find all the info on how nvidia's physx stuff runs? From what i gather I can run a GX2 for the video and then use my GTX for physx? That sounds good to me to be honest.

Any links, info... anything would be greatly appreciated. Needless to say im pouring through google right now but it cant hurt to ask.

NVIDIA Disables PhysX When ATI Card is Present

There is a rather lively discussion in our forums about NVIDIA?s recent decision to disable PhysX when an ATI card is present in your system. This all started with the release of NVIDIA?s 186+ drivers and, if you follow the link in the forums, you?ll see where the reasoning behind the decision is explained by NVIDIA?s customer care center.

Nvidia supports GPU accelerated Physx on NVIDIA GPUs while using NVIDIA GPUs for graphics. NVIDIA performs extensive Engineering, Development, and QA work that makes Physx a great experience for customers. For a variety of reasons - some development expense some quality assurance and some business reasons NVIDIA will not support GPU accelerated Physx with NVIDIA GPUs while GPU rendering is happening on non- NVIDIA GPUs.

Good Morning All,

I wasn't sure where to put as it maybe a problem with windows vista but here I'll tell you what my problem is.

I'm updating my Nvidia Physx driver to the 9.01.... (i forget the rest) It installs all the way up to a certain point until I get the following error message:-

Error 1316. A network error occurred while attempting to read from the file:
C:\Windows\Installer\WISA5B5A16D277A476b8f621029a2f23072_8_01_18.MSI

So I click ok and it carries on with the install and says it has completed successfully. Upon checking the Nvidia control panel it shows the new driver. I have tried uninstalling the driver, used driversweeper Nvidia File Remover but I still get this same error message when I try installing it.

I have recently used Acronis True Image to restore my system, so I was wondering if this problem may relate to that.

Any help will be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance

Answer:Solved: Error message when installing Nvidia Physx

I have a feeling that this problem occured because of the re-reinstall i did from Acronis True Image 2009, as I found there to be a number of other problems with removing software or installing new software.

I have since done a complete recovery from scratch and have not had this problem since, I will at some point create another back-up and try re-installing on a seperate hard drive and see if I get this error again.

Australia is considering the adopting of a code that would oblige ISPs to contact, and in extreme cases perhaps even disconnect, customers with malware-infested computers.
The voluntary eSecurity Code is designed to put a squeeze on the estimated 100,000 zombies in Australia, each of which might be capable of kicking out 10,000 junk emails a day.

Pilot data sharing schemes in Australia are praised for resulting in the reduction of malware-infected systems. Around 68 ISPs were involved in a 2007 Australian Internet Security Initiative (AISI) programme credited with reports of 10,000 compromises every day. The scheme cost a relatively modest A$4.7 million over four years.

Question: OpenCL

I have both an Intel HD 4600 GPU (Core i7 4790k CPU), and Radeon R9 285 card in my desktop. Anyways, since the HD is pretty much unused I decided to enable it in UEFI settings for the purpose of running OpenCL stuff on it.

Anyways I'm looking for software that can take advantage of OpenCL.

Answer:OpenCL

It hasn't really taken off kind of like WiDi. Good luck finding anything worthwhile that uses it.

Just bought this new i7 z510. Downloaded and tried to run this program called resolve lite for video. Install the program and open it, it says NO Open CL acceleration hardware found.  What the hell does one need to buy a new dam laptop if it doesn't even have up to date things like open cl in it.   If someone knows how to instal a program that fakes open cl or something so I can run resolve please tell me. Thanks.

Question: Missing OpenCL.dll

Hi All,
So, I upgraded to Windows 10 a day back using the media creation tool, and the install went fine. After I restarted the PC for the first time, I got an error saying that OpenCL.dll is missing. I searched online forums and it said that it might be due a problem with your graphic drivers. So, I updated the driver with Device Manager, but it said that the driver is upto date. I still get the problem after every restart.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks everyone.

Answer:Missing OpenCL.dll

Could you look and let us know what driver version you are using please? (quick way to look- right click on your desktop, click nvidia control panel, then in the bottom left corner of the dialogue box that opens hit system properties)

hey guys long time lurker here, usually i find solutions on my problem but this time around, i have no idea what to do!

Short story: ran sfc /scannow and got the message "found corrupt files but cannot repair," specifically regarding Opencl.dll. Can i fix this w/o doing a reset?

Long Story (in outline form):
- got a new SSD
-with my old HDD still in place(with w7) installed w10 thru usb in the SSD
-It worked, and thru the desktop i transferred files from my old HDD to the SSD
-tried to format the HDD thru my computer, did not work, got some error
-proceeded to format the hdd through w10 installation usb - worked
-changed the boot order so SSD load first
-got an error saying no OS is found
-plugged in w10 usb and did "repair my computer" - worked
-able to access desktop, play games, etc.
-decided to run sfc /scannow to be sure, and got that error
-did a disk cleanup and then ran sfc again, still the same

also i have attached the log that i got from the sfc

Answer:Opencl.dll on sfc /scannow

Perhaps not, even if you were to do a clean install at this point - see here: SFC some corrupt files can not be fixed

Normally, folks would advise that the next step is using DISM to repair this problem but, if you check the thread I linked above, you may decide you don't want to reinvent the wheel.

Hello! I work and study in CAE/mathematical modeling field. Now I'm trying to use OpenCL on my laptop. According to all the utilities I've tried I have no OpenCL support, although I know that it should have, at least early versions. E.g. FurMark didn't even recognize my dicrete card. It simply stated that I only have the Intel HD Graphics.GPU Shark says the same.GPU-Z tells me that I have both, but no OpenCL support on either of the devices. At first I could't even start a simple example in OpenCL, because the "Getting started guides usually suggest to look for a cl.h header in your $(AMDAPPSDKROOT) folder". I have that environment variable set to an existing folder, but it contains no libs, headers or anything close to it.I've installed Intel SDK for OpenCL to check the available devices through OpenCL API. It says I can use only CPU. Hardware: AMD Ati Radeon HD 7670m; Intel HD Graphics 4000; Intel Core i5 CPU;BIOS info: InsydeH20 Setup Utility Rev. 3.7; f.12;The device manager recognizes both devices correctly (from the first glance). According to it both devices' drivers are 8.982.10.6000 from AMD.I have been studying this problem for a couple of days already and found only two direct statements that it IS possible to use OpenCL on my Radeon card:https://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/system-requirements.html (Call me Mr. BrightSide, but I assume they should have tested it)andhttps://community.amd.com/thread/162244The reasons ... I want to do some opencl development on my Alienware 15 r2  nvidia gtx956m gpu).  Nvidia provides developer drivers sdk's (3.6.4.72-notebook ) but provides a warning that not all OEMs support these. Hi guys.

I am hoping you can help me as i don't wish to do a full reinstall. Spoke to Microsoft who couldn't help. I have looked through the excellent tutorial posted on here with regards to SFC issues but i'm unsure if i am doing something incorrect as, the ISO i got from Microsoft website, has an install file with a .wmd extension.

I am on the following build:

When i run SFC i get corrupted files could not be repaired message:

I have saved the log of the above scan which i have attached. Please forgive me for the possibly dumb question but do i know download the 1511 iso? DISM is saying source files not found.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as the Tutorial steps don't seem to fix the problem unless its me which most likely is!

OpenCL: Parallel programmers' new best friend.

If you are interested at all in multi-core programming, this tool (Open Computing Language) could become the standard for years to come in "what may be the best solution so far to the general problem of parallel programming." It does both task-level and data-level parallelism (aka SIMD) and some parallel-programming languages can't do the latter.

Answer:OpenCL: Parallel programmers' new best friend

Some of the parallel processing examples are best described as *way cool* (I don't drag out such language for the average stuff ).

Don't know what Nvidea's plan is with both CUDA and OpenCL support. As both do broadly the same thing why are they pushing their solution so hard? Anyone know any good tutorials for OpenCL (or CUDA for that matter, but there's more out there).

It'd be a shame to write two programs for two different machines.

A programming language: https://www.khronos.org/opencl/

OpenCL defines an application programming interface (API) that allows programs running on the host to launch kernels on the compute devices and manage device memory, which is (at least conceptually) separate from host memory. Programs in the OpenCL language are intended to be compiled at run-time, so that OpenCL-using applications are portable between implementations for various host devices.[12

Question: Porting csv file!!

I recently bought android phone so I was transferring all my dat from my old phone to the new phone. On my old phone, I was using an application to track down my expenses that allows to export the csv file of the data that I have saved.

Now, on the android phone, I find a separate application for the same purpose. It also allows exporting and importing of csv files.

I am trying to import the csv file generated from my old phone to the new android phone.
I am not able to do this as the format of the csv files for both the applications are different.

I am posting both the files for old and new. Can anyone please let me know the procedure to change the format of the old csv file so that the format is supported by the new application.

Please note that both the files look identical (also the formatting selected for the cells is same) when opened in MS Excel whereas the contents look different when opened in Notepad. I am pasting the example row from each file when opened in Notepad below:

Example row from application in old phone

3/13/2010 11:58,Atm,Citibank,600

Example row from application in new phone

"03-03-2010 09:49","Bus","test",-43

Now, I can change the format manually by opening the old file in Notepad but since there are hundreds of rows in the file, it is very tedious to do this manually.

Can I attach csv files in this forum?

Answer:Porting csv file!!

Use the search and replace function of notepad

leave the quotation marks out and just replace the / with - and test pls could very well still work as they maybe ignored

kk if they aren't ignored search for , and replace with ","

if you need to add the 00/00/0000 date format you will need to use a spread sheet and open the file and format that Column to the correct date format

Also from the second sample you have i can't work out if the formating of the date is dd/mm/yyyy or mm/dd/yyyy if you need to change this you will require a macro as well let me know how you go i could probably make one or find one that will do the job pretty quick

adding the - to the last column is doing my head in can only do it with a macro as far as i can work out

!!!!!!!! last thing do not upload your csv files as they contain all of those peoples number and information

So I have my OS on my 64gb SSD, and sort of regret installing the OS onto its own, separate, expensive, drive. Question is, how do I go about this?

I have a secondary 7200rpm 640gb drive which still has plenty of room left. Any guide proper guide to doing this?

Thanks.

Answer:Porting OS to another drive

You would need to Format the 640 Gb drive after moving the data off of it so it is totally empty. Then you can hook that drive up inside a desktop computer or through a USB external enclosure/adapter. then use a boot disc of Ghost, Acronis or HD Clone and choose your SD drive as your Source Drive and your 640 as your Destination drive. Once the clone is complete, remove the SD drive and make the 640 drive your main boot drive.

I have already made a posting here and I don't think I was being simple enough about it. Basically I want to completely transfer the "Last known good configuration" registry settings to a completely fresh installation that contains nothing more than the original Windows files and the original drivers files in their installed locations.

If anybody has any comments what-so-ever would be greatly appreciated. Any comments from people who think this would work well, along with anything that *may* cause problems. Thank you in advance.

Answer:Registry porting to new installation

Hi PwrUzrWithBnfts. What an interesting project... that would never have occurred to me.

Ok firstly, Im fairly sure it can be done pretty simply. From your post it looks like you already know how to do so but want some feedback first? Am I reading that right?

One major thing I can think of that might cause a balls up
Installed Program Files on the machine you create the registry backup on, will then have their registry entries transferred to the new machine, if it doesn't have the program installed then it might cause issues. Likewise with drivers etc. that are on the old machine but not on the new one.

Can I just ask.... why do you want to do this?

I recently ported all my old XP files across to Vista. Unfortunately, I was not aware at that time that I should create a backup copy of outlook express in order to succesfully transfer these files.
the result is that although I can see Outlook and also a .pst archive I cannot access them.
Does the panel know of any way to pull these into Vista Mail.
I have read that the easiest would be to install Outlook express. Is this likely to be available on the old recovery disc and can it be selected on its own for installation into Vista.
Thanks for the help Guys.

Have an issue getting Malwarebytes copied to a CD, and getting it to run the install on another PC. The PC is having issues with MS Internet Explorer, and can't get internet access. I know the LAN connection is good at this friends residence, as I can connect with my laptop. I figured, why not load up Mozilla and see if I can access using it.

I download the Malwarebytes from this great site, but when I go to port it over to the other PC, it does not install. I see a DOS window pop up, and then disappear. Then it pops up saying it did not install correctly, and I can't get it working.

Any thoughts? Is it somehow looking for an internet connection during install, not finding one, and shutting down?

Howdy! I have a dual boot with XP and Vista Home Basic x64. With XP being discontinued I want to install Vista as my only OS. I've never been an XP fan (98/Vista fan here ) but I use it because it has the only thing I miss from XP -- the Windows Address Book program. I just love that program for saving my contact data. Vista has similar thing - the Contacts folder and it even supports contact pictures, but I still find the Windows Address Book better to use. Is there a way to port that app to Vista? Do you think it would be possible? Copying the Outlook Express folder from XP to Vista does nothing. Is the WAB program part of Outlook Express? I want to port the app, I'm not talking about importing my contacts as I've already done that. I've seen the Vista movie maker ported to Win 7 but is it possible to port some XP programs to Vista? I tried looking for Address Book clones, but nothing comes close.

Every hit on Google says Outlook Express will not run on Vista,7 or 8.

Dear all,

The HDD of my server machine has reached capacity and needs to be replaced. I know there are plenty of tutorials on the net for putting in a new HDD but i'm less clear about how i would succesfully port the existing content, OS and all, to the new device. Any help?

The other thing would be suggestions for what the new HDD should be. I was thinking somewhere in the 500gb-1tb bracket. Currently the machine has an ST340014A ATA, any ideas?

Thanks all.

I am trying to port some VC++6 code to VC++7 (VS2003), & met the following compilation error when compiling my old code in .NET:

error 2371:'CString': redefinition; different basic types
in c:\program files\microsoft visual studio .net 2003\vc7\atlmfc\include\afxstr.h

After some time on the Web, I found out that CString in VC++7 has been declared as a template class (thus breaking legacy code using CString written in VC++6). In afxstr.h, there's this statement which does this:
typedef ATL::CStringT<TCHAR, StrTraitMFC<TCHAR>> CString;

Apparently my legacy code has used some VC++6 DLL which has defined CString the 'old' way, & the compiler is complaining when it sees the redefinition of CString in the new afxstr.h.

Can some one help here? Where is the file which contains the old definition of CString? Getting desperate!! TIA!

Answer:CString problems with porting VC++ 6 to VC++ 7

Solved

Here's replying to my own post (for posterity).
Got that compilation error because some joker who wrote the old code actually defined his own CString class and made a mess of everything.

That's why when the compiler tried to compile Microsoft's version, it threw that redefinition error.

Another person on my network uses BT, and it portf*cks my modem, making it super [h]ard to connect to the internet with the browser. Lots of timeouts.

When I connect to a website, it needs to use all those local ports on my PC. But it seems the dude running BT hogs all those ports, and I can't load websites properly anymore.

Is there a way to reserve a range of say 2000 ports so that other non-BT users can surf the internet, or is there no way to stop the random port bombardment of incoming BT connections?

Answer:How to stop BT from porting my network?

The problem isn't likely to be port numbers, but the number of connections. Have the person reduce the number of connections BT uses to 50, that should fix the problem.

I closed out my Century Link account (XP) and signed u with Comcast to make it a Triple 3.

It'd been almost a week and my old phone # had not yet been ported. I've called both CL and Comcast numerous times, always, either the same answer, or another answer, hoping they would believe whatever answer they are giving me.

Seems CL has already released my old # to Comcast, but that it's taking so long for it to finish the full cycle of porting. Why is that? I thought it only took 2 days to port an old phone # to another phone (?)

BUT THIS IS NOT MY PROBLEM. Please bear with this computer moron (me!)

I would like to eliminate Comcast TV from the line up.

1) Someone wants to buy the TV
2) I do not watch much TV
3) I do not like flat screens.
4) I am not into any contract, I can cancel at any tme.

Do I need to call a service technician for this as I do not disconnect any wiring that will black-out my entire house

The Comcast TV modem can also be brought into the Comcast Store, there is one 3 miles away where everyone goes to return their equipment.

Should Comcast charge me for this service?

Please help.

In a few weeks, I would also like to discontinue service on the phone (sucks) and the internet with Comcast. I can always visit to the management lobby, they have WiFi there for free use of tenants, or to the local library to use their internet.

Hi everyone .. I'm new here... Neighbor's PC is infected with perhaps many things... one of which is likely AV2009. Reading the various posts I see similar problems, and Malwarebytes seem like a commonly recommended solution. Symptoms are redirected web searches, AV2009 false detection notices/offer to buy, andvarious other bogus offers. I did delete some of the AV2009 files manually, and removed it from startup. IE and Firefox act similar... when I try to go various MBAM download sites I get msgs saying site can't be found. Some sites, like Hotmail, MSN, and some other sites work fine, so Internet connection is working. I downloaded, installed, and updated MBAM on my computer ... scanning worked fine here (even found a few things here that I need to look at closer). I then moved the MBAM folder via CD over to the infected computer. When I try to run MBAM I get the hourglass for a few sconds and then nothing happens. I tried disabling their AV software, tried it in safe mode, tried it after renaming MBAM, and still can't get it running on this infected PC. I did get Adaware downloaded... it found nothing. Their PC Cillan AV product also came up scan-free.Any suggestions before I need to to admit to my neighbor that I've run out of options? Thanks!!Edit: Moved topic from XP to the more appropriate forum. ~ Animal

A friend of mine is looking for someone who would be able to devote their time into porting libdrc, a Linux library designed for interacting with a Wii U Gamepad (Project: memahaxx / libdrc Bitbucket , Docs: http://libdrc.org/docs/index.html), to work with Windows with him in a co-op project. The only requirement would be that you have windows driver experience.

He hasn't started yet and most everything he's done so far has been research related. He has put the project entirely on pause and said that he wasn't going to get back at it unless he could find someone to help.

He has told me that instead of making a driver that works for libdrc, which would make it practically useless for anybody else, it might be best to add Windows support for hostap, so everyone using hostap will benefit from the work.

Would any of you be willing to devote time and experience into this project? Any help is very much appreciated!

Answer:Email companies about porting Android/iOS apps now!

We currently have certain things going on and in some cases actually managed to book some success, in the form of beta or an acknowledgement that an app is coming (real madrid app for instance; now we already have the app).. http://forums.windowscentral.com/win...1/331993-6.htm
But you're being specific to w10 and the "simple" porting options. Keep in mind that the porting will mostly work for simple apps/games (candy crush), MS did try to make that clear..
As for developing an app right now? most devs will avoid w10, because it's still too "buggy"

As a prologue, I was basically an Access programmer.
A client has a web-based app backed by an Access DB via IIS using .asp files, which I maintained. The client recently purchased a new box with Win7 64-bit as the OS.
I do not own a Win7 box and really don't know much about 64/32 bit differences and workings.
The original app was installed on a Win XP box several years ago. Then the client moved to a Vista box operating in 32-bit mode. I was successful in porting the app from XP to Vista.
Now I'm attempting to port from Vista box to Win7 box. I was finally able to get "Hello World" to appear via localhost. But when I added the ASP connection string to Hello World, I received an error msg indicating an ADODB Connection error which traced to the fact that the Provider for the DB, Micorsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0, cannot be found. And when I try loading the very same file in another browser tab, I get an HTTP 500 error. Yet reloading it in the original tab still shows the Provider error. This really confuses me.

I have set permissions to 'Full Control' for all the files in the wwwroot folder and its subfolder, inventory (containing all that is needed for this app to function), for all entities/groups.

So that leads me to a few questions. Do I need to re-task Win7 to a 32-bit machine? How do I get the Provider to show up in the ODBC setup if Microsoft Office is not installed on the box (and might not be in the foreseeable future)? Does anyone foresee other proble... Read more

Answer:Porting older localhost IIS web based app to Win7 64-bit

Hi and welcome to Seven Forums!

I'm a web developer and I know that Microsoft OleDB driver exists only in 32-bit version and Microsoft doesn't plan to make one for 64-bit version of Windows.

You have to link your asp site to a new Application Pool without .NET Framework target (I have Windows in italian, it should be "No managed code") and edit advanced options of your new application pool checking "Enable 32-bit application".

Hope this helps!

Is this possible?

I have a plugin for my Windows Media Center that allows for downloading of Netflix movies from the watch it now service to watch later - NOT stripping the DRM, just storing it on your hard drive so you don't have to wait for it to stream when watching. It comes it pretty handy since I frequently don't have the time to sit down and watch an entire movie, and resuming a Netflix movie at a later time via streaming can be a pain if you need to fast forward a lot.

When I attempt to watch the downloaded movie, which is a DRM'ed .wmv file, it goes through the whole aquiring usage rights thing and recognizes my Netflix account and plays no problem.

What I'm wondering is this: doesn't Windows Media Player have an option to store licenses? And if so, shouldn't there be a way to play the downloaded Netflix files on my laptop even if I'm not on the internet? Sure would be handy to take on trips.

I was thinking something like: 1.) Download Netflix DRMed .wmv, 2.) Open the file on my laptop while connected to the internet to verify my Netflix account and obtain the proper license, 3.) Later come back to the same file while off the internet and use the backed up installed license to view. Of course, it doesn't actually work that way, or I wouldn't be posting this thread. I'm just wondering out loud if there is a way to actually accomplish this and still stay legal. Any thoughts?

Answer:Legally porting Netflix Watch Now movies

Just talking out of my port hole here but since this is not a case of general distribution DRM, Netflix can require account verification for each access. That way Netflix doesn't have to worry about any movie being distributed by individuals with not so sensible intentions and, its not even that so much as it satisfies the entertainment industry regarding the method of content distribution and the rights therein.

Here is the situation:
I bought a 8gb Sony nwz-e354 and after probably a month of putting all the music back on and what not due to my old mp3 crashing, i did the first thing i always due, which is create a playlist.... Well it turns out normally there are two ways only to make a playlist use WMP 10 or above i believe or use the Sony content transfer software or w/e it's called.

I won't use anything besides WMP 9 i really don't care what ppl say about it, or how old it is.
WMP 9 just simply has the only layout i like, i like the tab's on the side running vertically (i mean like the media library, now playing, media guide, etc...) I hate them running across the top like all the versions after 9 have.

Anywho the reason one must use WMP 10+ or Sony software is because both of those items install the MTP driver's into ur system necessary for the mp3 player to be detected as a... well mp3 player.Without the MTP drivers it will still install but it only installs as a mass storage device. Granted u can still transfer music however, u cannot create pla... Read more

Answer:Windows XP, WMP 9, MTP porting kit, MP3 PLAYER PLAYLIST PROBLEMS!

These below are how it looked BEFORE the playlist:
<ARTIST> Dead To Fall
<ALBUM> Everything I Touch Falls To Pieces ? 2002

<ARTIST> Marilyn Manson
<ALBUM> Antichrist Superstar ? 1996
<SONG> Antichrist Superstar

What about simply exporting the Access DB file then importing into OpenOffice Base?

I plan to port my current hard drive with Windows XP Pro OS on it into my new computer.

I have read that when you install a new motherboard, you must reinstall your OS.

Would this be the same as "installing over" my OS without changing motherboards? For example, any time I reinstalled over my XP Pro OS on my hard drive in my current computer, after having reinstalled XP Pro it would 100% retain my registry, programs, files etc. etc. as they were before the reinstall started. In other words, I didn't lose any data whatsoever.

Or will it be equivalent to formatting my drive if I reinstall the OS with a new motherboard?

If it is the first situation and my data is retained, then would that change if I install a different revision of XP Pro than what I had originally installed onto the hard drive?

Answer:Porting old hard drive into new computer - can I keep all my current data?

You can put the old HDD in your new computer and see if it works. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. I'd say 60%+ chance it will work.

If it doesn't, you can install XP "over" it; your files will be kept, but your Windows profile will be backed up in a new folder called "username.bak" or something; same with your "My documents" folder.

Installing a different version over the old version may not work, except when you are upgrading from Windows ME to XP for example.
