Question: Lenovo Issues Battery Recall for ThinkPad Laptops

Lenovo Issues Battery Recall for ThinkPad Laptops

Lenovo has issued a recall for several of its ThinkPad models because of various battery issues. You can download a tool from the Lenovo website to find out if the ThinkPad you own is one of the affected laptops.

A limited number of ThinkPad users have reported the following symptoms: Irreparable damage or battery cannot be charged error message from Power Manager or Message Center, or Low battery capacity, as indicated by short battery run time or sudden drops in the battery fuel gauge.

Preferred Solution: Lenovo Issues Battery Recall for ThinkPad Laptops

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer:B575 - lenovo thinkpad battery recall

Hello xbassman44, welcome to the community,

yes there is a recall notice regarding some ThinkPad notebook batteries.  Your B575 is not a ThinkPad branded product rather a Lenovo branded product.  You can review recall notices on the following linked to web site;

I purchased 4 of these for my company in December 2011 and today have had to arrange for the 3rd one to be returned to Lenovo with the same problem.  The battery stops charging and will not hold charge and will not run unless powered into ac supply. The laptop will then not power on at all, completely dead no lights / sounds etc and when returned the previous 2 they have replaced the motherboard and have had no problems since. Even though have had this problem with 2 of the others Lenovo Technical Support have still said have to return it at my expense which because of the data included on it have had to return special delivery costing £25 a time. They are returned withuin 7 days but think there may be a problem as this is a 75% failure rate. Anybody else had this problem as is putting me off buying anymore?

Answer:Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E520 i5 Laptops with Windows 7 - Dead Laptop with Battery Problems

Since you got the machine In December then this maybe the case, as some batch of these machines were affected by the EEPROM issues.

From what I remember, these 2 recalls expired at least 5 years ago.

I brought this R60 Laptop for my Dad last year. The Battery simply died with the message "Irreparable Damage" after about 300 cycles.  FRU (92P1137) and Name of Manufacture (Sanyo) all points to it being a manufacturing defect. I had made more than 10 calls and communicated over email with no success in getting it resolved.   I have until now believe in the Thinkpad brand and it is surprising to see being put in circles and pushed around. Can someone help me? -Myil

Answer:Once Proud Thinkpad Owner - Battery Recall

welcome to the forum! battery recall info can be found here.
on that page you can enter your battery's bar code number to view its
recall status.   you can also download an app from that page and it will do the
work for you. so you're aware, 92P1137 doesn't appear on the recall list for the R60.   what did service say about it when you called? how old is your battery?    keep in mind that batteries are like car tires and won't last forever.   300 cycles are a lot and the battery might simply be worn out.

My Thinkpad x61 battery suddenly failed to charge and displayed the message like "A battery error occurred. The battery cannot be charged. Replace it with a new one." I found out that there was a recall on this battery and went to the online diagnostic tool at http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=BATT-082009But it only says that the recall program ended Oct. 2010 and the link to diagnostic tool is missing. It is difficult to understand that a recall has an expiration since the problem is due to the faulty product. Besides, I did not get any notice that this program was in existence. Lenovo should have informed all owners of the applicable models and alerted them of the potential problem. I then called the customer support, but all they kept saying was to go online to the page above and would refuse to talk to me any further. Frankly I think the lenovo customer support is awful, totally helpless. They were actually quite rude and impatient with me. Any chance that I could somehow get a replacement for this battery?

Answer:Thinkpad x61 battery recall--Extremely frustrated!

Well at least they took down the link to the tool, before you had to download and run the tool before it told you it no longer worked. is difficult to understand that a recall has an expiration since the problem is due to the faulty product. You will find there are actually 2 battery recalls one for the "irreparable damage"  and one for the "exploding catch fire type batteries" the first now closed recall was voluntary by Lenovo the "irreparable damage" error message notice. The second is still open but it only is for select battery serial batch numbers you will for some reason find that it effects the exact same serial batch numbers as the "irreparable damage" batteries ??.  But you guessed it its really not that easy you see Lenovo has a list of batteries it knows are faulty within those batches of batteries. They of course will not tell you what they are but the bar code on the battery is the key to if it is a faulty unit or just a dud. The tool checks to see if you are on the mystery list if not you have to call tech support or send an email to a moderator stating your case for a replacement. I do not know the criteria they use to justify if you get a new battery some have received new batteries but it would be wise to be polite. Here is the link you might like to run the tool a number of times sometimes it doesn't work the first timehttp://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=batt-lenovo I do hope this is of some help... Hi I own a Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga 12 i5 180GB laptop/2-in-1. Sometimes, the CPU fan will just turn off completely, especially when the CPU is under heavy load. I am a content creator, and I use this computer for the bulk of my encoding jobs. Sometimes, when I am rendering or encoding, or even just scripting. Also, the battery is only charging to 41480 mWh instead of the designed 47060. What is happening? i have owned this for 1.5 years.

In cooperation with various government regulatory agencies, HP has announced an expansion of its June 2016 worldwide voluntary safety recall and replacement program for certain notebook batteries. Additional batteries are affected. The affected batteries have the potential to overheat, posing a fire and burn hazard to customers.

Because affected batteries pose a fire and burn hazard, it is essential to recheck your battery even if you did so previously and were told that you were not affected. Note: if you have already received a replacement battery, you are not affected by this expansion.

To recheck your battery, and order a replacement if eligible, go to the HP Battery Recall website at: http://www.HP.com/go/batteryprogram2016

Hey there shiv309,

There is an excellent thread by CT809, that led to a solution for this very problem.

Re-installed Lenovo Settings Dependency Package and the Power Management Driver, then when I rebooted and went into Lenovo Settings, this option popped up. Ensure that its placed to "fully charge".

Good afternoon all,

I have been in the process of making my laptop, a Lenovo Thinkpad T410, a much better device to use. While I've been having HDD issues, my main issue right now is the battery that I had purchased. With the IBM Power Manager software, the battery is listed as a Sanyo 42T4710. It is a 9 cell battery and I will provide any other information you need.

When I had first purchased the device, after charging for awhile the battery icon on the laptop would begin to flash amber. It will not charge to 100%, and usually stops at 96%. With the battery manager, the charge threshold is set to "Always Full Charge (Start when below 96% and end at 100%). I tried to run the battery gauge reset option, however the laptop permanently stayed at 96% and never discharged lower than that.

Are there any recommendations that you can make for what I should do with the battery?

Thanks!

Hi, Thinkpad Z61p In my company we always reinstall Lenovo's with a custom network unattended XP immediately after delivery. One user had problems with the battery so I supplied another newer laptop and a good battery (because the laptop is already past his life's expectancy corporate wise).Because the old laptop was no longer needed I decided to install a standard XP as a spare (we use something that is unable to run on our custom installs) but I was unable to, because thattype of laptop seems to only want a specific XP cd, dunno maybe a SP1 or with specific display drivers (Heavy gfx). So I installed Ubuntu, first thing Ubuntu says after boot "This battery was recalled by Lenovo" with a link. Smarter OS than Windows.I goto the link and I find out that the battery is faulty by checking the P/N but the website says you need to install software to check and order a new battery ie an .exe ... so I ran Wine and tried installing, everything installs but it won't run. So I call Lenovo ... "Sorry, because you installed Ubuntu we cannot support you, you need to run the software".I explain why, how etc. etc.I have the battery, a recall means they will get the faulty battery and they can physically see the serial number that is on it, and we are registered at Lenovo. So I asked what they would do if batteries on a pre-installed Ubuntu Lenovo Thinkpad back in the day would have to be recalled, would they supply an Ubuntu program to check and apply for a replacem... So I got myself the Lenovo ThinkPad W510 the other day, specific model being "431929G", along with it I got myself a 9-cell battery instead of the included 6-cell as well as this additional "slice battery" solutions which you attach at the bottom of the computer using the docking port it seems? The box which this slice battery came in was marked model 57Y4545, the piece of battery inside however says FRU: 42T4739? I guess and hope it's the same thing?  It does attach to the bottom of my W510 without any issues whatsoever, I lock it in place so I get that green indicator which should mean it's supposed to function? But it doesn't.. ThinkVantage Power Manager do pick up the battery but it's just standing there at 12% battery with no activity? Even after the main 9-cell is fully charged it wont start to charge the slice battery? I did even remove the main 9-cell in order to see whether or not that would change anything, but it didn't? And if I remove the power cord when running only the slice battery the W510 will just drop dead? So it's not charging, neither is it providing my W510 with any more battery life? It just sits the with 12% battery with no activity whatsoever, no charging or usage at all?

Answer:ThinkPad Battery 27++ (9cell) 57Y4545 wont work with my Lenovo ThinkPad W510?

Are you sure you're running the latest power manager? I.e., have you updated all the system drivers, os drivers, bios, etc.?

I tried to post a request for help a few days ago, but I am not sure if it posted, so I am updating. I have two Lenovo laptops, both suffering from the same issue - huge spikes in memory, which lock them up. OS Windows 7, no virus, no adware, no malware. Having trawled the internet, including this site, I managed to fix the issue (fingers crossed), by using task manager. It showed me that memory was fine, until five mins after log on, when the memory spike would happen. I could see that the issue was a massive 600,000k and sometimes higher spike with svchost - indeed, it was open multiple times. Having experimented with my older laptop, I determined which of these svchost entries could be deleted without incapacitating the machines. Eventually, closing the offending single entry with very high memory usage did the trick. I noted that it tried to reopen again, every five minutes and I had to shut it down another five times, before it disappeared. I have now been using both laptops for the past day..fingers crossed all working. So, my question is, what causes all these multiple svchost.exe entries and why does one in particular open with such a huge memory drain figure. I am by no means it 'savvy', but I have learned a lot from friends, the internet and sites like PC advisor. I thought that my older lenovo laptop was done for, but it has been operating like a dream for the past day. PHEW! Can you guys advise me please- thanks in advance.

Answer:Memory issues - two :Lenovo laptops

Multiple svchost events running is quite normal because it is a program used by many other pieces of software in order for them to run. The offending item is not svchost but the program that is calling on it to open.
You probably need to determine which program was causing the massive memory hike and either delete it or maybe re-install.

Hey just wanted to give my .02 on this. I would love to see a 12 cell battery for this series of laptops. Especially considering the power gulping nature of my particular y510 with the 8600GT and older 65W cpu. So please, lenovo, do something right and sell a 12 cell battery for these laptops so I can play more than an hour of Left 4 Dead before it dies on me. Otherwise, I may need to take matters into my own hands. I honestly think the best compromise, in terms of design/efficiency/practicality/cost, would be a 9 Cell for the Y530 and a 12 Cell for the Y730.

I recently bought a new battery for my HP Probook 450 G0, and i would like to check if this battery falls under battery replacement program announced by HP recently just to be safe. More details here - https://h30686.www3.hp.com/ But there are several problems. When i tried to execute HPBRCULauncher.exe (aka the automatic way to check the battery) it could not finish successfully and said something like "Unknown battery found. Unable to tell whether or not this battery falls under battery recall programm"   Sorry for russian. I couldn't change the language of this program.Plus i can't manually check the battery because CT number which is printed on the battery, was partially sealed by "very smart" seller with his own warranty badge. The only part of the number i can see is "CT:6BCM..." HP support assistant was unable to detect CT battery number and displays CT Number: N/A. So is there any other way to find this CT number? Thanks!

Hi folks. Quick question here. I bought a Lenovo T61 two years ago. It came with the 6-cell battery, #41W1508 per my invoice. (I've read it may also be called a 42T4566?). The battery recently begain to die --- wouldn't hold its charge for more than about 15 minutes. And now it's completely dead. I know there is recall, described here: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=BATT-082009 To qualify I'm supposed to run the "battery diagnostics tool" on my LT? Problem: my battery's failed completely and the T61 won't even boot. (Since a battery borrowed from a friend's T60 makes my LT run fine I have to assume that the old battery is the sole cause of the start/reboot problem.) What's the process for getting Lenovo to send me a new battery? Quick! I really need it soon. Thanks.

Answer:How do I process my T61's battery recall and get a new battery ASAP?

I should add, my LT won't even run, start, light up in any way with the power cord attached. As I said above though, the LT worked fine when I swapped in a friend's battery.

Hello! I am new to Lenovo and picked up my 1st laptop yesterday when my HP died. I have always had HP and grew tired of how easy they break & poor battery life, so I wanted to try a different band. I love the computer, the keyboard, track pad & screen are amazing. I bought the ideapad 320-15IAP for about $330 (Including tax) The specs at the store advertised 4.5-5 Hours of battery life, but I have not been able to get a charge better than 2 hours. For someone that uses my laptop at work and on the go, this will not do. Can any one offer up any advice? Does lenovo sell stronger batteries for ideapad that I can replace with this current battery?  My next issue is the Windows 10 update that you are forced to do, I have been trying to install it since 9PM last night, it is now 9PM tonight, a full 24 hours, and it has not fully installed. I have done my fair share of google searches and many people have had these same issues too, but no good solutions outside of deep computer hacking, I don't want to have to do that on a brand new computer. Thanks for any and all help!

I've been experiencing a problem with my (relatively new) Thinkpad X1 Carbon 2nd Gen laptop. If I shut my computer down while unplugged from AC power I am unable to restart via the power button. I've tried a few different methods of restarting: pressing the power button multiple times, using the emergency reset button (which appears to do nothing at all while the computer is shut down), and plugging in the AC power and trying the above methods. All of these options have been unsuccessful. The only solution that I've been able to find is to physically remove the battery from it's port, then reconnect the AC cable and press the power button. At that point, I can reinstall the battery and everything works normally, I can put the computer to sleep and use the computer for the full battery life without the AC power. I have verified that my battery health is at ~85% and I've had the computer for less than a year. I've tried to upgrade the firmware via the "Lenovo Battery Firmware Update Utility" but am told I need no upgrade. My laptop still under warranty but after hours on hold with Lenovo support, I decided to take matters into my own hands and purchase a new Sony 8-cell battery to replace mine. After installing the battery, I've determined that the problem persists. I've seen similar issues in the forums but none mention any solutions or having to physically uninstall the battery in order to get the computer to turn on again. At this point, I'm at my wit's end. Any ideas? ... Read more

I could be wrong but I think I read somewhere on this forum stating that this was a motherboard failure so you need to have the laptop sent into repair and they will switch the motherboard and then it should be fine again

I have about ten Thinkpad R61 (8934-F9U) notebooks, most of which have random problems powering on. We've found that if you remove the battery for about 30 seconds and re-insert it, the notebook will power up and work fine. One in particular has gone past this. The user takes it home at night, plugs it in at home and it works fine. When he brings it back into the office the following morning and docks it, it will not power on. He removes and re-inserts the battery and docks it, and it'll power on. It does this every time. All the notebooks have the latest BIOS (September of 08 for these). Does anyone have any ideas why these notebooks are having these issues?

It's been about 5 months since I started to use my Thinkpad  X230.  Only three days ago it could work for 5-6 hours without charging.  I could charge it at home, bring it to school and use it without charging.  But suddenly the battery started to die in a short amount of time.  Then I explored the battery settings a little bit.  I found out it says "Battery Condition: poor" and "Your battery can 47% of its original full charge capacity."   It has warranty until 2015. So can Lenovo send me a new battery if I want so? Or is it a problem that warranty doesn't cover? Please help!!

Answer:Thinkpad X230 Battery issues

Well, a few things. 1.  The warranty you mention sounds like it is for the system.  The system and battery typically have different warranty terms.  Unless of course you did order an additional battery warranty. 2.  However, the base battery warranty is one year, so if you contact them they should get you a replacement since you are only a few months into ownership. Good luck!

Hello again, I know I haven't posted in a while, but I have a computer problem. I have a Lenovo Thinkpad W500 running Windows 7 Home Premium, and I recently cleaned out the hard drive. I reinstalled the operating system and last night, the battery charged 100%, and a few hours ago, when I plugged the charging charging cord into the computer and turned the computer on, and the computer said the battery was at 5% charge, plugged in but not charging. (P.S. I installed the itunes 64 setup file to set itunes back up again.) The computer said that there were problems with the battery and I should consider getting a new battery. The charging cord is plugged into the computer, and I intend to have the charging cord plugged into the computer overnight. Should I? And what site or store should I go to to get a new battery? Do I need a new charging cord? Or is there is a way to solve it without getting a new charging cord ot battery? Any help would be greatly appeeciated.

Hello, I'm having some poor battery performance  on my Thinkpad 13 (~4 hours average battery life). I've used the lenovo application and found that my battery still has its full capacity/capability. I often run my 13 on the 'power saver' battery option. I'm also often having issues with significant battery drain even while the laptop is in 'sleep' mode.  Does anyone have any suggestions for these issues?  I am considering upgrading my battery, though I'm not sure which battery to buy--which batteries are compatibe and which ones would give me a significantly longer battery life. Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.

Batteries are warrantied for one year, so run (don't walk) to your nearest Lenovo support center.  Or call Lenovo. You can look up your exact warranty status on Lenovo's website.

Hello!I bought my Edge 420 two years ago and really love it. But after installing WIndows 8.1 battery life decreased for 2.5-3 hours from one battery charge. I don't wanna back to Windows 7, because I like new OS without any lag and problem. Not long ago I read about 9-cell battery and want to buy it. But where? Which store or place do you recommend for buying? And I know, that batteries capacity may go down because of time (laptop sales have begun in 2011). Should I buy new 9-cell battery? Or just forget about it and continuing using my old 6-cell?Thank you for replies!

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad E420. 9-Cell Battery.

Hi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Capacity of a battery declines as the battery ages, with the number of charge cycles and time at high temperature. Under average usage patterns your battery maintains approximately 70% of its power capacity after the first year of operation.

If you feel that the battery backup is too low, try doing a battery firmware upgrade and BIOS update. Check the Lenovo support site for any battery firmware updates for your particular model.

Refer this knowledgebase which explains some tips to improve battery backup.

Still if you feel like getting a battery replacement, I would suggest you to contact Lenovo technical support. I'm sure they would be of great help.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Mithun.

I have a Lenovo X230, running Kubuntu 14.04. When I disconnect the slice battery at the bottom the system resets, it's very annoying. What's worse is that it seems like jostling the system, also can cause it to power cycle. I don't really have a need to remove the slice battery very often, but essentially if I put the laptop into standby, and put it in by laptop knapsack, the system is off after I get where I'm going. Thoughts? I saw somewhere that allegedly, when you unlock the battery, some thinkpad utility gets notified to switch the power, I wonder if the hotplug is a software only solution, and not doable in standby. Steve Ramage

I have recently had an issue with my HP Envy Li-ion battery.  Just last week, all of a sudden, a couple of my laptop keys poped off the keyboard and at the exact same time my Sleekbook shut off. I noticed a significant seperation in the bottom left corner of my laptop's case; a seperation from the aluminum fame and the service cover.  I removed the service cover and noticed a serious issue to the PX03XL Li-ion battery HP Part number 714762-1C1. It was ready to explode! The 3 cells were dramatically inflated, and there was a hum sound. I took a couple pictures and immediately put the battery in a safe location. The inflated battery actually broke a support tab located in the service cover. See attached photos below.... I was notified of an HP Battery Recall from my sales rep at the company I work for. The HP Envy IS part of the recall, but this specific battery isn't. My HP Rep told me to send in a few photos to customer support, but there's way for me to do that. Is there ANY way I can get a recall help here? This was very scary to have this battery malfuction while it was resting on my lap. Please help. -Kris919

I just recently bought a new thinkpad 2 in 1 at Best Buy.  It will not charge at all. When it is off and I plug the charger in the small red LED light will blink a few times and then shut off and the laptop will not charge at all, and when the laptop is on it will say plugged in but not charging and a message will come up saying that the power supply does not provide enough power. Before I turned the laptop on for the first time I plugged it in and it showed signs of charging, but once it finished updating and started up for the first time the first thing I saw was the message about the power not being enough. Also the power supply I am using is the one that came supplied with the laptop. Also I have noticed that it seems that I cannot power on the laptop without the the charger being plugged in.When I attempted to turn the computer on the first time out of the box it would not start at all and once i plugged in the power supply it started up.  Once I set up the laptop and it updated and finally started up ( a process which took no more than probably 15-20 minutes) the battery was already at around 76%.I do not beleive the battery would have charged 76% in a span of about 15-20 mins. The following night the same thing happened. I have a Lenovo ThinkPad Edge S431 purchased in September 2013. It came with Windows 7. A few months ago, I started running into battery issues. The battery manager alerted me to a battery failure, or poor battery health. The battery would last about 30 minutes, but my system wasn't able to estimate the time remaining accurately. I noticed that my laptop would go to sleep immediately if I pulled the charger out, but I would be able to turn it on and use the laptop on battery for 30 minutes. This only happened sometimes, but why? I assumed it was due to my battery. I purchased a new battery, FRU P/N 45N1139, ASM P/N 45N1138, as per recommendation from Lenovo support staff. While waiting for the battery to arrive, I upgraded my system to Windows 10. It seems Lenovo Power Manager isn't compatible with Windows 10 and now I can't go back to Windows 7 because it has been over 1 month. Main problem: I removed my old battery and installed the new one, but it doesn't charge at all! I had my laptop plugged in for over 24 hours, powered off, and the battery didn't accumulate any charge. The battery started at 2% but now it's at 0% (not sure if these estimates are accurate), and my laptop shuts off immediately if I remove my charger. I put my old battery back in and it charges fine. I can still use my old battery for about 30 minutes. What should I do? The old battery charges fine. Should I return this battery and buy a new... Read more

Hello Guys, Since I couldn't find any solution for my problem, I decided to write here, hoping that someone (either from team Lenovo or from the users) have the same problem and therefore can help me. I have a Lenovo ThinkPad Edge 13 model (version 0217). (I bought it from a friend, since it was not shipped anymore when I decided to buy it.)I have problems with my battery. The design capacity of it is 62.12 Wh, I used it wisely, so it wasn't always charged up to 100%. I always discharge it down around 5-7% and then plug in the AC adapter. (See image.)  My first problem is that in the last 3 months, the capacity is gone down to 45.88 Wh and I can't really figure out why. Can this be a generic problem with the battery? My second problem is - for which I've found another topic here but it didn't help me - that when I charge the battery, charging stops at 99%, showing "3 minutes is remaining" and if I unplug and replug the adapter, it stops as 99% saying it is fully charged. In the battery maintenance, I changed the settings from "Always fully charge" to Custom, but still, it won't charge up the battery fully.  My third problem is that I updated the BIOS of my laptop some days ago and when I try to search for a battery firmware update or when I do a battery gauge reset, the system suddenly shuts down without any warning or whatever. I would really appreciate if someone could help me with this, I really love my laptop but it really bugs me..... Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad Edge 13 (0217) battery problem

1) Battery do wear out eventually, you already have 234 cycles on the battery. So the battery capacity drop in the latter part of the cycles count is quite normal. It is nature of these battery to wear out. 2) For thinkpads, this behaviour is quite normal, this helps to prevent unnecessary wear on the battery cell. Once you use your battery back to say 95% or so, it will recharge back to 100%. 3) Are you saying that your laptop no longer works or that it intermittently shuts down?

I recently purchased a Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 14 (20FY). The problem I've been having is when the battery reaches about 25%-30%, it suddenly drops to 6% and I'm alerted to charge the battery. Any idea what this is happening and how I can fix this?

I got an email message from HP referencing a battery recall and this number:  c05166036.  However, when the enclosed link was pressed I got a message saying the website couldn't be found.  What's up with this HP?  Is there a battery recall or not, and if so, is my PC affected by it? Thanks

Answer:Battery recall c05166036

i am having the same problem. Also, when I tried to search for how to replace the battery all i found was a recall on my power cord that was two years old and i was never notified of it.  How do we replce the battery that HP recalled?  Very frustratinf indeed.  Have spent several hours trying to find this information with no success.

Hello, My computer gets burning hot (such that I cannot keep my hands on it after a while) and I never questioned it until I saw something over the internet that said that Lenovo/IBM had a battery recall for several laptops including x61. Where can I get this information? At times, I do think that my computer could catch on fire.  Before going to bed, I either feel the temperature or shut it off, something that I should not have to do. PLEASE RESPOND ASAP....I cannot find a way to reach Lenovo Technical Support via email and I cannot hold on the line. We are about to purchase a T series computer also--do they also have the same issue? So many thanks.

I have got a battery problem with my Envy 15 Touchsmart. I have been informed that there is a battery recall on this item but I am unable to download the utility programme which the system seems to require me to do before I can report the issue and order a new battery. The system informs me that it does not meet the minimum requirements for the utility. If I try to do it manually I need the battery serial number - which I can't get because the battery is internal and not detachable. Any advice would be welcome.

Hey all,

I have a Satellite M50 laptop running Ubuntu 8.04 and this morning I got a message saying that my battery may have been the subject of a recall. I went to the site it pointed to and it stated that my laptop was on the list, however my battery pack was not.

It also said that the page I'd been referred to related to laptops sold in the States. This laptop was sold in Australia.

I'm just wondering if the battery I am using has been recalled as well and don't want to risk being charged $60 for being out of warranty. The battery number is PA3451U-1BAS.

Thanks in advance

Answer:Battery recall for Satellite M50

There are links to Battery programs on the Toshiba Australia site at www.isd.toshiba.com.au

http://www.isd.toshiba.com.au/battery2007/battery_instructions.asp

Run the battery check tool to determine if your battery is affected. Then if it is affected, follow the instructions.

There obviously is a recall on these batteries.... I just looked to see what the serial number on the battery is, and I can't find it.  I can't find out how to remove it or anything on how to get to the battery, to see if this is one of the recalled batteries.  If this is, and I have to get a new one, will this work, plugged in without the battery?  At this point, I only use this plugged in on my desk.  I will use it as a portable labtop in about a year, when i travel.  Right now, I don't need to use it with a battery.

I have a battery that is in the list of recalls. I cannot find an online way of contacting Customer Support I am in Belgium but their site is in French or Dutch. Why is it soooo difficult to find a link to Customer Support? I am now concerned that my battery will start a fire and I want to use my laptop on battery power. Has anybody else had a replacement sent to them? How did you manage it?

We have some batteries with the batteries error (see http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=BATT-LENOVO). We have recalled the affected batteries and get a confirmation number that was in November 2007. Since this time point we wait or the replacement batteryWe tried to connect the support center at http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-4HWSE3, but they know nothing about battery recall program and can not help. Now, I don't know which service number I can call or mail address, which is responsible for this battery program. Does anyone know a contact for this battery program? Have I any chance to get new batteries?

Guten Tag Ewa,I just went to the following link:  http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/product.do?doctypeind=100&template=%2Fproductselection%2Flandingpages%2FhotNewsLandingPage.vm&sitestyle=lenovoput in the information about my machine, and went to the Product Recalls page, and there they talk about the battery recall program (which you can get in German if you like).I needed to have the battery replaced in two machines, and it did take a while, but I kept after it and got them eventually.  Good luck.  Post again if you don't get results.RussZ60MXP Home (SP2) Message Edited by ucyimb4u on 04-11-2008 12:48 PMMessage Edited by ucyimb4u on 04-11-2008 12:48 PM
