I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Nvidia Releases Updated Linux Drivers for the Old GeForce 8 and 9 Series

Lots of fixes have been implemented in this release
Nvidia has updated the Legacy branch of the Linux drivers and developers have fixed quite a few issues. This is a driver aimed at older hardware, so if you just got your shiny and new Titan video card, this driver will be of no use to you.

Spoiler: Nvidia 340.93 Changelog
- Fixed a bug that caused the X server to crash if an OpenGL application tried to allocate a drawable when GPU-accessible memory is exhausted.
- Fixed a bug that could cause an Xid error when terminating a video playback application using the overlay presentation queue in VDPAU.
- Updated nvidia-installer to avoid recursing too deeply into kernel source trees under /usr/lib/modules, mirroring an existing restriction on recursion under /lib/modules.
- Fixed a rare deadlock condition when running applications that use OpenGL in multiple threads on a Quadro GPU.
- Fixed a kernel memory leak that occurred when looping hardware- accelerated video decoding with VDPAU on Maxwell-based GPUs.
- Fixed a bug that caused the X server to crash if a RandR 1.4 output provided by a Sink Output provider was selected as the primary output on X.Org xserver 1.17 and higher.
- Fixed a bug that caused waiting on X Sync Fence objects in OpenGL to hang indefinitely in some cases.
- Fixed a bug that prevented OpenGL from properly recovering from hardware errors or sync object waits that had timed out.

While people may not have had the best experience upgrading from Windows 7 or 8.1 where there is a Nvidia card involved, the company has now rolled out a new set of WHQL drivers for Windows 10. The new drivers, which are now at version 355.60, have been released in both 32 and 64-bit flavors and clock in at 217 and 279mb respectively.

There are no major changes to be found in the release notes, which you can see below;

Just in time for the preview of Ashes of the Singularity, this new GeForce Game Ready driver ensures you'll have the best possible gaming experience. This driver also supports the Beta version of the GameWorks VR software development kit (SDK). As a result, users will be able to enjoy the benefits of GameWorks VR with supporting applications and headsets for the first time.

If you have yet to upgrade to Windows 10, it's worth pointing out that Microsoft does support most of the recent Nvidia cards, although many people have had trouble getting the driver to install after the upgrade. A series of reboots will eventually automatically detect the card and install the correct driver, or you can grab them below and do it manually.

NVIDIA has rolled out a new WHQL driver update specifically targeted at Windows 10 systems.

This particular update focuses on GameWorks VR headset, adding tweaks and bug fixes with the driver description stating:

?NVIDIA continues to work closely with VR headset and game developers to deliver amazing VR games and applications. This Game Ready driver includes the latest GameWorks VR tweaks, bug fixes, and optimizations to ensure you have the ultimate VR gaming experience.

In addition, support has been added for "GameWorks VR 1.1 including VR SLI support for OpenGL applications and support for the latest Oculus SDK."

Some Windows 10 users have not had the best experience relating to the display driver while upgrading to the new OS; however, many of these issues have now been addressed, so it's worth grabbing the update for your system.

You can grab either the 32- or 64-bit drivers at the links below.

Sorry if this is off-topic, but I have been using Wagnard's DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) for years now to do actual 'clean' installs of the Nvidia drivers each and every update and life has been much happier. Great especially if a new release screws up and you want to cleanly go back to the previous driver. Much more thorough than picking 'clean' install from the nvidia installer tool, and safer than letting than letting some generalized registry cleaner at your registry.

It was the goto solution for the many people who could not get Fallout 4 running on release day. It won't work in every single case, of course, but nothing is guaranteed.

If you want to check it out (it's free and highly regarded by gamers) he posts new builds in his forum at: Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) Download & Support - Wagnardmobile Forum

You'll also find it on various download sites but I get mine direct from his forum for safety.

Here's his description of what DDU is and does:

"What is Display Driver Uninstaller?
Display Driver Uninstaller is a driver removal utility that can help you completely remove AMD/NVIDIA/Intel graphics card drivers and packages from your system, without leaving leftovers behind (including registry keys, folders and files, and the driver store).

The AMD/NVIDIA/Intel video drivers can normally be uninstalled from the Windows Control panel, this driver uninstaller program was designed to be used in cases w... Read more

Nvidia Mulls Over Porting PhysX to OpenCL - X-bit labs

"Nvidia May Allow GPU PhysX to Work on ATI Hardware

Nvidia Corp. said that it could eventually port computing of physics effects created using PhysX middleware to OpenCL application programming interface (API) and capable hardware. This may actually enable acceleration of physics effects processing on graphics chips to work on ATI Radeon hardware.

At present PhysX middle-ware is used to make physics effects on various platforms, including video game consoles and personal computers. In virtually all the cases processing of physics effects is performed on the central processing units ? x86 chips in case of PC, Cell in case of PlayStation 3 or PowerPC in case of Xbox 360 ? however, there are handful of games that can take advantage of physics computing on Nvidia GeForce graphics processing units (GPUs) that support CUDA technology. The latter is virtually Nvidia?s proprietary API and is naturally not supported by chips developed by ATI, graphics business unit of Advanced Micro Devices. Due to such limitations not a lot of game developers are implementing GPU PhysX and enabling acceleration using DirectCompute or OpenCL is one of the best ways to popularize processing of physics effects on graphics processors.

?In the future it is a possibility that we could use OpenCL, but at the moment CUDA works great. [Our GPU] architecture allows for acceleration by other things like OpenCL. Nvidia works very closely wit... Read more

Inspired by Official nVidia Drivers 28.32, I checked if they have new Linux drivers. And they have, Linux driver 1.0-2802 has been out for a while.

Release Highlights for 1.0-2802:

* GeForce4 and Quadro4 Support
* OpenGL® 1.3 with NVIDIA extensions
* Improved IGP and mobile support
* Overlay support for Quadro products
* MPEG acceleration for GeForce4 MX
* Anisotropic filtering support

Answer:nVidia Linux drivers

Yes, I got those.

Don't ask me why, I have NO IDEA, but I have to compile from source and THEN install the rpms as well before it works....

(And then of course editing /etc/X11/xf86config-4 )

Then it works a treat. I don't really play games under Linux but those XMMS visualisations run so much better.....

I made inf file for g210m on toshiba u500 for 195.81 beta driver.
Just download driver and add it to unpacked directory where are other infs and install.

Now you can use OpenCL, CUDA, DirectCompute, Physx (enable it in CP) and nVidia GPU Acceleration for Adobe Flash Player (install new 10.1 beta 2 flash player by adobe)

This inf is optimized for DEV_0A74&SUBSYS_FF401179 g210m.
If you want me to add more devices please post what devices you want and i will but you will have to test it.

Hope this helps.

Answer:Satellite U500 - INF file with OpenCL, CUDA for Nvidia driver

Thanks for that but usually it?s advisable to use the Toshiba graphic card driver due to the GPU overheating protection.
Other drivers don?t support such protection and the usage of such drivers can cause an higher temperature which could affect the GPU chip?.

POOP!!!!!!!!! So I Have some Nvidia GeForce 128MB card and in Windows it works fine. But in Linux, when I scroll in websites it is very jerky and slow, many of the screensavers don't work, NONE of the OpenGL Screensavers work. also, when I go to K menu>System>Monitor>OpenGL I get an error message that says "Could not initialize OpenGL" Also there is a game that comes with the system that is called GL-117 and it says that there is no 3D card found. In the YaST control Center when I go to Hardware>Graphics Card and Monitor, I wait about 30 seconds and then I get a screen with grey dots and a black X that I can move with the mouse for 3 seconds, and then it goes back to YaST as if nothing ever happened. I have tried re-installing the drivers using the YaST updater and apparently it installed no problem but I still get the same symptopms. I also tried installing the drivers from the file I got here:http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_display_ia32_1.0-8756.html  but I got an error message saying something like I'm running some X thing and I have to shut it down before installing but I have no clue what that is and i'm very confused and pissed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I tried and i could never get it to work, I had to repartition and i ended up reinstalling linux. Now, im on a fresh install of Linux and im again trying to enable compiz fusion and i need help . Im not that good with linux though .

Im running an Nvidia 9600gt, Core 2 duo, 24" moniter, 2 gigs of DDR2 900.
Also does anyone know the mouse settings that don't have interpolation? The ones that don't filter the mouse sensitivity? And also arn't there programs that let you emulate windows xp programs (Im dual booting) on linux? AND also im pretty sure theres a way to turn off the password authentication thing that pops up all the time...how do you do it?

Answer:Help on Nvidia drivers, Compiz Fusion for Linux 8.04

I assume you mean Ubuntu 8.04? To get the proprietary driver working you simply need to enable the restricted driver for you graphics card. It should then work. If it doesn't you may want to try envy. This is a script that will download and install the driver for you.

I have Win 10 Pro 64 bit on a Dell Vostro 3460 with Intel Core i7, 8 GB RAM and Crucial 1TB SSD. All Dell diagnostics pass, Windows fully updated.
About 2 weeks ago (April 2016), the Windows Update for Version 1511 finally arrived and it is now at Build 10586.218
A few days (2 or 3) before that, IE 11 and Edge started to misbehave. It's possible that some final pre-upgrade-to-1511 upgrade did this - it is equally possible just a co-incidence.
The symptoms are that IE11 will open up but the address bar does not get populated and after a few seconds, it just disappears again. Edge does similar. When this happens, I sometimes try Firefox but that takes a long time to start - at least it starts. Chrome usually starts within a short time. There is no sure way to get IE and Edge back again. Rebooting sometimes does it. Usuallly, I have to use Turn Windows Features on and off to turn IE 11 off then on again (which given a restart is needed both times is timeconsuming).
I have tried clearing caches, Inetcpl.cpl, in place repair of Windows 10 and sfc /scannow. scannow blames a corrupt opencl.dll according to http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-windows_install/sfc-scannow-report-opencldll-bad/4209b042-1b7b-4fa2-a720-2c0e489d137b?page=5 which - if that thread is to be believed is something to do with Windows not treating the NVidia driver correctly or vice versa.

NVIDIA Releases SLI Profile Update

If you?ve got an SLI rig, NVIDIA recently released an SLI profile update to go along with Forceware v190.62. Go grab it if you haven?t done so already.

Application profiles enable multiple NVIDIA GPUs in your PC to work together for faster performance. So, for PCs with more than one NVIDIA GPU (and with SLI or multi-GPU enabled) these updates boost the performance in the applications listed. Once the update is installed, these games will automatically use all of the GPUs in your PC to achieve the fastest performance possible.

Lenovo Releases BIOS Update to Allow Linux Installation on Windows 10 Devices

Back in September, complaints that reached the web (and even got confirmed by a supposed Lenovo official) claimed that installing Linux on a Yoga 900 was impossible because the operating system was blocked as part of a deal between Microsoft and Lenovo.

Both Microsoft and Lenovo denied that such an agreement existed, explaining that installing Linux was actually impossible because Windows 10 was running on a SSD locked in a proprietary RAID mode that could only be read by Redmond?s operating system.

And yet, following all this controversy Lenovo has released a new BIOS update for Yoga 900 that unlocks this proprietary RAID mode and allows the installation of Linux on the device.

?This BIOS creates an AHCI SATA Controller Mode selection to allow for the installation of the Linux operating system. This BIOS is NOT intended for use with machines running a Windows operation system,? the official changelog of the new BIOS version reads.

Drivers should allow Linux installation on any device
Lenovo confirmed from the very beginning that installation of Linux on its devices was possible with the right drivers, but the company didn?t say a single thing about updates that would be provided for the Yoga 900 Signature Edition.

?To improve system performance, Lenovo is leading an industry trend of adopting RAID on the SSDs in certain product configurations. Lenovo does not intentionally block cus... Read more

As some of you may remember, back in December I was in a quandary about buying a new video card. I was looking at a pair of SLI GTX460 cards, or the new GTX570. I went with the 570 with a bit of trepidation because I knew the GTX560 was on its way, but only knew it was to be released in "Q1 2011" which could be as late as March. Well, the GTX560 was "rebranded" as the GTX560Ti, resurrecting the "Ti" moniker from the old Geforce 3 & 4 days (think waaaay back to the AGP days of 2001-2002), wouldn't you know it, Nvidia released the card to the public just yesterday, Jan 25 2011. The price is certainly right (+/- $260US), and after reading a few reviews, I REALLY wish I would have waited a few more weeks and grabbed a pair of the 560s for an SLI set up. Several reviews show the GTX560Ti outperforming the (formerly) legendary GTX480 in some benchmarks, sometimes by a considerable margin. So, enough of my babbling. Nvidia quietly releases GeForce GT 220, G210 to retail - TechSpot News

Answer:Nvidia quietly releases GeForce GT 220, G210 to retail

And don't be in a rush to buy one,

GeForce GT 220 review

For a budget card the GT 220 obviously offers decent value for money. You get plenty of connectivity on the Palit GeForce GT 220 Sonic Edition, silent cooling and a product that offers an excellent desktop usage experience.
Gaming wise cards like these are far from what I can call exciting, of course you are on Guru3D.com and we crave the need for high-end hardware. And as such we might be a little BIAS to a product like shown today. Also our test methodology is designed in such a way that mainstream and faster cards are way more representable in performance scaling. The GT 220 competes well with the Radeon HD 4650 but we do recommend you to look into the Radeon HD 4670 as it outperforms this product at roughly the same price. Then again, if you are into gaming .. we doubt you are even looking at this card as a viable option as you'd be compromising consistently on image quality.
Fact remains that with 48 shader cores in the lower resolution you will be able to play modern games as long as you turn of anti-aliasing, forfeit on image quality and resolution. If your intention is just that, then this might be the card for you. Next to that we have to mention the cards good connectivity and thanks to the 40nm fabrication process, really friendly power consumption.

Almost sounds like the second coming of the FX5200.

Just in time for Battlefield Hardline
Electronics Arts' highly anticipated Battlefield Hardline game released to PC (and consoles) yesterday, and with it Nvidia has a new WHQL driver release, version 347.88, that it says will ensure you'll have the best possible gaming experience in EA's latest title. The new driver also comes right as Nvidia officially releases its newest flagship graphics card, the GeForce Titan X (check out our review of the Titan X here).

The driver adds support for the mighty Titan X, which is based on the second-generation Maxwell architecture, and also adds or updates a handful of SLI profiles. They include:

Life is Strange - Added DX9 SLI
Medieval Engineers - Added DX11 SLI
NASCAR '14 -- Added single SLI
Trine 3 - Added DX9 SLI
Zombie Army Trilogy - Added DX11 SLI
Though the newest driver is recommended for Battlefield Hardline, Nvidia doesn't recommend running 3D Vision for the game (the same goes for Project CARS and Saint's Row: Gat Out of Hell).

Also included in the driver is Dynamic Range control, which lets you use the full RGB color range for applications on HD displays. You'll find the option by going to Nvidia Control Panel > Display > Adjust Desktop Color Settings.

You can download the latest driver here.

Dell Releases Bios Updates For Several Nvidia Video Cards

Dell has released a Nvidia GPU (Graphics Processing Units) Bios Update for several Dell notebooks on their Dell Direct website. Nvidia confirmed earlier this month that some notebook GPUs were affected caused by a weak die packaging material set.
The GPU may fail due to temperature fluctuations and users may experience symptoms like random characters or lines on the screen. The problem is that if customers experience those symptoms the Bios update will not help them anymore and they have to contact Dell support to fix the issue.
Everyone else should check the website to see if their Dell notebook is in the list and update the Bios of its GPU accordingly. The affected notebooks according to Dell are:
Inspiron 1420
Latitude D630
Latitude D630c
Dell Precision M2300
Vostro Notebook 1310
Vostro Notebook 1400
Vostro Notebook 1510
Vostro Notebook 1710
XPS M1330
XPS M1530
The Bios update will turn on the GPU fan more frequently at half or quarter speed to reduce temperature fluctuations. Dell confirmed once again that this will have no noticeable effect on battery life. New notebooks will be shipped with the updated Bios.
The real question however is which GPUs are affected but there does not seem to be a direct answer for this. There is however the list of Nividia GPUs that have been used in the affected Dell notebooks, here it is:128MB NVIDIA? GeForce? 8400M GS

Hi, I have tried installing the NVIDIA ION drivers available at the NVIDIA.com website in order to resolve an issue I am having which I will explain about below. I understand that because the Lenovo C200 all in one PC (which is the PC I have, which has the prolem explained below), has both an Intel GMA 3150 and NVIDIA ION graphics card, the drivers available on the NVIDIA website will not install - the error output is the driver couldn't find any compatible graphics hardware. From my research, I understand that it is Lenovo that releases NVIDIA ION driver updates (because, as far as I'm aware, NVIDIA's generic ION drivers won't install on computers that have multiple graphics cards that use manual graphics switching), and ones from you install fine, but they're out of date. The problem I am facing that made me want to find an NVIDIA ION driver update is because video in Internet Explorer doesn't work full screen (and with the latest Flash update - Flash 10.2 - videos on YouTube don't work as you load videos too, now - IE simply becomes slow and the video container remains black). However, if I disable Hardware Acceleration in the Adobe Flash Settings pane, videos work fine. Additionally, I installed the Internet Explorer 9 Release Candidate, and websites appeared not to display at all, even though IE9 was displaying the circular moving icon as if a website page is loading. When I disable GPU Rendering in IE9 Internet options/Advanced tab, it work... Read more

Answer:Problem with old NVIDIA ION drivers - please provide latest NVIDIA ION drivers

To sum up, I believe this problem is down to Hardware Acceleration of the GPU that perhaps the old NVIDIA drivers currently shipping with the Lenovo C200 and the ones only available from the Lenovo Driver Downloads page doesn't support, that the newer ION drivers do support - or perhaps there is a problem with the older ION drivers that the newer ION drivers rectify. Either way, please provide newer NVIDIA ION drivers available for the Lenovo C200 all in one please - the generic ones from NVIDIA's website doesn't work so I presume Lenovo takes the generic drivers from NVIDIA, modifies them for the Lenovo hardware and makes them available on the Lenovo Driver Downloads website. I'd appreciate if a staff member of Lenovo responds to this thread acknowledging that this will be done. Thanks.

Answer:N-Trig Releases Multi-Touch Drivers for Windows 7 RC

Has anyone been able to test this on a Latitude XT2?

I've tryied it and it seems to be very buggy. The single touch interation is now terrible as any attempt to make a straight line results on a line with a lot of interruptions. So, dragging a window, for example, is interrupted like 2 inches away from where you started.

I'd like to hear if someone is experiencing the same behaviour.

This is a long standing question. Which drivers should I use? I have graphical issues with the current Drivers from Dell.
Any ideas what are the advantages of Dell's drivers over the ones from Intel/NVIDIA web site and do the even work? What will I lose if I use the latter?

Answer:Inspiron 7567 which drivers? Dell drivers or Intel/NVIDIA graphics drivers?

Dell drivers are Intel/Nvidia drivers that are customized for your exact model and should be used. They are available at Dell Support if you have to reinstall.

hello,

i have the qosmio X300-14P with windows 7..
i play actual games (f.e. skyrim) which need the LATEST video driver!

the x300 is said to have a nvidia geforce 9800M GTX video chip.

however, when i download the latest driver (295.73 today), at installation it says :

no nvidia hardware detected - unable to install !
=====================================

this is so with all nvidia drivers in the last 2 years (with windows 7 and windows vista alike) !

what is the problem ?

did toshiba not include an nvidia chip, but a cheap chinese noname chip, or what is the problem here ?

whatever notebook i had before the toshiba, it would accept actual nvidia drivers.
only the toshiba qosmio x300 doesnt.
why ?

it is vital that i install the latest drivers, how can i get by this problem ?

the driver that toshiba offers for the qosmio x300 is almoust 3 years old (2009, now it is 2012!) -
this is ridiculous!

an actual video/graphics driver is urgently needed, it is vital that the nvidia drivers work.

i ask toshiba :
HOW can i get the latest nvidia driver to work in the qosmio x300-14P ?
which is said to have a geforce 9800M GTX nvidia chip (though nvidia driver says : it does'nt).

how can i get the latest `nvidia drive (295.73)r to work ?

thank you

q.

Answer:Qosmio X300 - new nvidia graphic drivers are uninstallable: no nvidia chip

i think i came across this problem on my qosmio

the gpu chip i most likely nvidia but its been branded or modified by toshiba so its not recognized as a genuine nvidia chip

this means that only the signed toshiba drivers will actually recognize your gpu card, but will unfortunately leave you with the latest toshiba driver and not the latest driver available from nvidia

there are workarounds this problem http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/ this website provides gpu drivers for many many laptops along with instructions how to make your laptop see the card or simply force the drivers in the system

good luck

Alright, here's the deal.
? Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit, with SP2 RC.
? nVidia Gforce 9600 GT

Never had problems updating the drivers to their latest versions (downloaded from nvidia.com) until I de-installed Spybot (that crappy anti-spyware thing).

After that, everytime I try to install (after a deinstallation) or update the current drivers nothing happens. Install runs fine, copies files, reboots and voila... same drivers as before.

The only drivers that actually I was able to install were the 178.13 via the internal Windows Update. That's it. If I don't install them, the VGA card is shown as "vgasave" in the Device Manager.

I'm quite fed up with this and planning to reinstall Vista, but backuping everything up is going to be a real hassle, that's why I'm trying to find out a possible solution to this beforehand.

Any suggestions?.
Thanks in advance!

I have a Geforce 8200 installed in my computer but everytime i try to update my drivers to the newest 8200 drivers. it installed Geforce 9200 drivers...
i call nvidia and they said that 9200 is the same as 8200 and the drivers will work flawless with my 8200...
well they are totally wrong. with the 9200 installed, my HDMI screen flickers all the time then if i had the 8200 drivers in....
but here is the catch...since i updated i can't remember that driver i had installed that worked...
whenever i got to the nvidia site to get a 8200 driver
they send me to the 9200 driver page.
just want to know where i can get reliable 8200 drivers and if anyone knows a good 8200 driver that was the best out of the batch of them
i know i have have high hopes
but got to ask somewhere.

Answer:Nvidia 8200 Drivers /Nvidia 9200

If you go to the File Hippo site you will find lots of past version Nvidia drivers but you might be up against it if you can't remember the driver version you want. Trial and error maybe the only way to go.
If you do decide to try different versions I'd be using driver sweeper between installing.

I have been having this issue since getting windows 10 whereby the screen will go black for a few seconds and then a message come up saying 'display drivers have failed to start, using MS basic drivers'....This has happened multiple times, even after a few days ago where my pc 'found new drivers' and installed them. The worst part is, after a few hours , sometimes everything slows to a crawl, the mouse eventually freezes and the only way out is the reset button. This is even after I thought it may have been due to not enough memory (I just upgraded from 4 to 16 gigs) and also got an SSD 250g drive. Same exact results, so I'm thinking it's related to this near constant problem with the video card drivers where they will reset to MS drivers ...this happens about daily. Very frustrating. What's going on?

It's not clear to me what file you are running. The nvidia-installer?

> when i can run menu config

You don't need X to do that. 'make menuconfig'. You do need "ncurses-dev" though.

(Don't forget to install "module-init-tools" first)

Suggest you customize and compile your own kernel, and then go back to getting the nvidia module compiled and installed.

Don't know why Linux Mint should be different. The Nvidia drivers are part of the kernel and the distribution should not make a difference. There is a Linux forum on the Nvidia site. And they have open source drivers.http://www.nvidia.com/object/unix.html

Hello,

Linux n00bie that I am, I have recently installed Mandrake 9.0 on a P3-550 with absolutely no problems at all ( this is the cool part ). But ...

When I tried it on a AMD TB 1.2 / VIA KT133 combination I got Kernel Panic, which I think is very bad. The error was:

[1] CPU Context Corrupt

So after some serious checking and (un)plugging of cables, it still didn't work. After some serious Google, I was a little wiser ( in Linux general ) but had not solved my particular problem.

The general recommendation on the net is: get another Linux distribution, like Red Hat or Debian.

Any thoughts on this?

TIA!

After Ubuntu, Linux Mint is the most anticipated spring release for 2014. The reasons are many, but the chief one is that the LTS-ness of the former directly impacts the latter, so if Ubuntu is bad, we're in for a five-year hiatus. And Mint has always been the counterweight to Ubuntu, when it comes to how the desktop is perceived and used.

While there ought to be more friendliness, there's a fair dose of rivalry and mistrust, and this is what makes the Qiana review all the more interesting. We all heard rumors about Debian taking over, LTS only derivatives and such, and today, it all comes unveiled. We will be having a whole bunch of Mint reviews, with at least two Cinnamons and one MATE. Let's start with an Nvidia-powered laptop, dual-boot config, lots of fun.Click to expand...

Hi, I'm going to by a new Thinkpad soon and I'm still unsure whether I should get the T470 or the T470p. I'd really like to have the extra CPU performance of the T470p. However, as a Linux user without any special GPU-consuming applications I would like to use the Intel IGP graphics only (due to the better Linux support and the reduced power consumption). The CPU (i7-7700HQ) does have an Intel IGP graphics according to Intel but I'm not sure whether/how I can use that instead of the NVidia graphics card. Is it possible to do disable the NVidia GPU in the BIOS/UEFI or via a software setting? If it is a software setting: How is it configured on Linux (Ubuntu 16.04)?ThanksJakob

Hi folksRecently got a new system with a Asus 7800GTX graphics card. The driver was nearly up to date but not quite so I got the latest (81.95) from the nvidia website. But I've been looking through the Asus cd that came with my comp, and from that looking at the Asus website. There the latest driver for my card is 81.89, but it's 43MB in size - seems larger than the standard nvidia drivers. Basically my query is are there advantages to using the asus nvidia drivers? Are there extra bits and pieces to optimize the Asus version of the 7800GTX? Or should I stick with the drivers from nvidia.com? Also, the cd has some Asus advanced drivers - will these only be compatible with the Asus nvidia drivers, or will they work with the driver i downloaded? Finally, the cd also includes VGart drivers - something to do with Pci-Express - should I install these?

Answer:Nvidia or Asus Nvidia drivers?

Without seeing specifically what extras these Asus drivers have its impossible to advise. The standard driver is 29mb and the english one is about 20mb. Personally I would use the drivers from Nvidia as these are always more up to date. If there is a problem then you can always delete them and reinstall the Asus ones.

Not sure if this is better suited for here for the Alternate OS section, but here it goes

I have pretty much switched by computer to running just Linux. Almost never boot over to Windows. Only issue I'm having with it is the Radeon graphics drivers for my R9 290 seem to be arguing with Steam. I have read Nvidia cards propritery drivers work much better with linux.
So one of my work computers needs a graphics card upgrade and I'm thinking getting a good Nvidia card to replace my R9 290 and see if that fixes my graphics driver conflit issues.
Does anyone have any experiance with that and what would be a good card comperable to the R9 290 from Nvidia's end of things?

Thanks!

Hello. I have a MSI NF750-G55 motherboard which came with Nvidia sound drivers. Windows update even provided an update for the nvidia drivers once I connected to the internet.

However, I also know that there are Realtek sound drivers. Will my system be more stable if I just install the nvidia drivers or should I install the realtek HD drivers too? Or would having 2 sound drivers cause freezes?

I appreciate any advice. So far all my sound works great so that isn't an issue, and I don't really care about having the realtek audio manager.

Answer:Nvidia sound drivers, realtek drivers, or both?

Basically, if it isn't broke, don't fix it.

The sound is a Realtek chip on the motherboard, thus the Realtek would be the first choice, but if other supplied drivers work and you have all functions there is no need for additional drivers. The Microsoft drivers are actually Realtek drivers (but Microsoft can be several versions behind due to their validation process).

There are 2 NVIDIA drivers with Ubuntu - 304.131 (proprietary, tested) and 304.131 (proprietary). If I switch to 304.131 (proprietary, tested), the screen immediately goes black and the machine is frozen. It will reboot only to the login screen at which point the screen goes black and the system seems frozen. The only cure I am aware of is to reinstall Ubuntu. If I switch to 304.131 (proprietary) it lasts about as long as Nouveau, but Nouveau starts to deteriorate a bit first, giving some warning of imminent failure. This driver fails all of a sudden, though the system can be powered off and back up.So, the question is what should I be using for a graphics driver and where can I get it?Thanks for your help.

I did a fresh install of Linux Fedora 12 and discovered that this new version of Fedora doesn't like my Nvidia GeForce 9800 GTX graphics card. I tried numerous installation techniques but they failed every time. I scoured the forums for answers but no single answer would work. Finally, I rearranged the steps from a couple of different forums and it worked. If you're having trouble getting your Nvidia card installed in Fedora 12, then give this a try. Let me know if it works.
Nvidia Driver Install for Fedora 12[
Edit the /boot/grub/grub.conf file using Gedit
Open a Terminal Window
Login as superuser (enter "su" at the command prompt, and press Enter.)
You'll be prompted for your password. Type it in and press Enter.
Paste ?gedit /boot/grub/grub.conf? into command prompt, and then press Enter.
Find the kernel line in the grub.conf file. It will say something like ? kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.31.1-56.local.fc12.x86_64 ro root=UUID=XXX rhgb quiet?
After the word ?quiet?, paste ?nouveau.modeset=0?
Save and close the grub.conf file.
At the Terminal prompt, paste ?setsebool -P allow_execstack on? and press enter.
At the Terminal prompt, paste ?yum --enablerepo=rp*g install kmod-nvidia.$(uname -m) xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs.i686 xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs.x86_64?

-with my old HDD still in place(with w7) installed w10 thru usb in the SSD
-It worked, and thru the desktop i transferred files from my old HDD to the SSD
-tried to format the HDD thru my computer, did not work, got some error
-proceeded to format the hdd through w10 installation usb - worked
-changed the boot order so SSD load first
-got an error saying no OS is found
-plugged in w10 usb and did "repair my computer" - worked
-able to access desktop, play games, etc.
-decided to run sfc /scannow to be sure, and got that error
-did a disk cleanup and then ran sfc again, still the same

also i have attached the log that i got from the sfc

Answer:Opencl.dll on sfc /scannow

...Short story: ran sfc /scannow and got the message "found corrupt files but cannot repair," specifically regarding Opencl.dll. Can i fix this w/o doing a reset?...

Perhaps not, even if you were to do a clean install at this point - see here: SFC some corrupt files can not be fixed

Normally, folks would advise that the next step is using DISM to repair this problem but, if you check the thread I linked above, you may decide you don't want to reinvent the wheel.

Hello, I've just answered a very similar question.
Opencl.dll is related to Nvidia graphics. It has been reported incorrectly as a problem by SFC /Scannow for months. It is said MS is to fix this.

Question: Missing OpenCL.dll

Hi All,
So, I upgraded to Windows 10 a day back using the media creation tool, and the install went fine. After I restarted the PC for the first time, I got an error saying that OpenCL.dll is missing. I searched online forums and it said that it might be due a problem with your graphic drivers. So, I updated the driver with Device Manager, but it said that the driver is upto date. I still get the problem after every restart.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks everyone.

Answer:Missing OpenCL.dll

Could you look and let us know what driver version you are using please? (quick way to look- right click on your desktop, click nvidia control panel, then in the bottom left corner of the dialogue box that opens hit system properties)
In case you are unsure, the box looks like this:

Hi guys.

I am hoping you can help me as i don't wish to do a full reinstall. Spoke to Microsoft who couldn't help. I have looked through the excellent tutorial posted on here with regards to SFC issues but i'm unsure if i am doing something incorrect as, the ISO i got from Microsoft website, has an install file with a .wmd extension.

I am on the following build:

When i run SFC i get corrupted files could not be repaired message:

I have saved the log of the above scan which i have attached. Please forgive me for the possibly dumb question but do i know download the 1511 iso? DISM is saying source files not found.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as the Tutorial steps don't seem to fix the problem unless its me which most likely is!

Hello! I work and study in CAE/mathematical modeling field. Now I'm trying to use OpenCL on my laptop. According to all the utilities I've tried I have no OpenCL support, although I know that it should have, at least early versions. E.g. FurMark didn't even recognize my dicrete card. It simply stated that I only have the Intel HD Graphics.GPU Shark says the same.GPU-Z tells me that I have both, but no OpenCL support on either of the devices. At first I could't even start a simple example in OpenCL, because the "Getting started guides usually suggest to look for a cl.h header in your $(AMDAPPSDKROOT) folder". I have that environment variable set to an existing folder, but it contains no libs, headers or anything close to it.I've installed Intel SDK for OpenCL to check the available devices through OpenCL API. It says I can use only CPU. Hardware: AMD Ati Radeon HD 7670m; Intel HD Graphics 4000; Intel Core i5 CPU;BIOS info: InsydeH20 Setup Utility Rev. 3.7; f.12;The device manager recognizes both devices correctly (from the first glance). According to it both devices' drivers are 8.982.10.6000 from AMD.I have been studying this problem for a couple of days already and found only two direct statements that it IS possible to use OpenCL on my Radeon card:https://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/system-requirements.html (Call me Mr. BrightSide, but I assume they should have tested it)andhttps://community.amd.com/thread/162244The reasons ... A programming language: https://www.khronos.org/opencl/

OpenCL defines an application programming interface (API) that allows programs running on the host to launch kernels on the compute devices and manage device memory, which is (at least conceptually) separate from host memory. Programs in the OpenCL language are intended to be compiled at run-time, so that OpenCL-using applications are portable between implementations for various host devices.[12

OpenCL: Parallel programmers' new best friend.

If you are interested at all in multi-core programming, this tool (Open Computing Language) could become the standard for years to come in "what may be the best solution so far to the general problem of parallel programming." It does both task-level and data-level parallelism (aka SIMD) and some parallel-programming languages can't do the latter.

Answer:OpenCL: Parallel programmers' new best friend

Some of the parallel processing examples are best described as *way cool* (I don't drag out such language for the average stuff ).

Don't know what Nvidea's plan is with both CUDA and OpenCL support. As both do broadly the same thing why are they pushing their solution so hard? Anyone know any good tutorials for OpenCL (or CUDA for that matter, but there's more out there).

It'd be a shame to write two programs for two different machines.

Hello World!
I have been having trouble with my computer. Earlier this week i reinstalled my XP partition on a XP/Ubuntu dual booting system. The audio would clip and the computer would ultimately freeze. Now to trouble shoot the problem i started googling and heard it might be my PSU (which was deffective) so i got a new one, it works great computer's now a quiet happy camper. However windows is not. Now by installing and uninstalling drivers one by one I have found out that the trouble with my windows environment is that the new ATi card's drivers are craptastique or are clashing with my Nvidia drivers(for the built in stuff of my M2N-E motherboard). I do not have these problems in my Ubuntu environment which further strengthens my belief that it's a Windows driver issue. That would also explain my 10005 system event error (10005 is Dcom failing)

Well that you all for the help in advance

Hello world!

I have solved my own problem.
The solution?
Instead off the bulky CCC drivers i just got the minimalistic drivers and so to enable my secoundary screen i just had to use the winedows system

Thanks anyways

Question: Drivers for Linux

Hello,  I have similarly bought a G430, and have installed Mandriva Linux 2009.0. After updating the system, and obtaining a new intel graphics driver, the system runs fine. WiFi, touchpad, sound, graphics, browser all work. I haven't used the webcam or the Bluetooth yet, but both are recognized in Mandriva.

Question: Linux Drivers?!?!

does ne1 know uf a good site for linux drivers?

Answer:Linux Drivers?!?!

There is no "linux driver heaven" if thats what you're looking for. Most drivers you have to compile modules for. If you were a bit more specific I would've helped.

Question: Linux Drivers

Hello, This is for Linux lovers. Does anyone know of a HP Scanjet 4470c driver for Mandrake 9.2? Mandrake say that "perhaps" one exists. HP say that they do not have one! Your comments would be wellcome.Loughlan

Answer:Linux Drivers

I emailed HP for advice for a PrecisionScan driver for linux, waited several weeks before getting info,"They have no plans to create a linux driver..."I presume your scanner is USB,if SANE(I think)or SAMBA doesn't work, then its not going to function in Linux unless you modify/build your own kernel.
