Computer doesnt boot anymore.

Question: Computer doesnt boot anymore.

Hello, yesterday I was browsin the web, and suddenly my monitor shut down. The computer was still on, but wasnt processing anything it seemed like, and my monitor was blank. So I tried using a new monitor, still no luck. The problem is every time i turn on my computer, my monitor stays blank, and it doesn't make the beep sound anymore, and the fans are constantly moving. I tested out a spare PCI video card, same thing happend. I think my motherboard is broken, but am not exactly sure, i would like to know if this happend to anyone, and how you fixed this problem if you did.

Preferred Solution: Computer doesnt boot anymore.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

After an automatic Windows update was completed I shut down my computer but when I booted it again, the monitor went a bit blur with small blue Lines appearing when Windows start and the quality of the resolution was significantly lower. Also the computer became slower however I was still able to use the system. Then i decided that a format-reinstallation of Windows 7 ultimate from the cd would solve the problem. Hence, I booted the Windows 7 via cd and followed the standard sequence of installing Windows and clicking on custom (advanced) and deleting the partitions. When the Windows finished collecting the necessary Information and required to restart i did not press any key to boot from CD as i was suppose to and after Windows started and registry was set up, the last step of completing installation of Windows was on its way. However, after the step finishes, a black screen appears and although it should have displayed the "press any button to boot from cd" that would lead to the creation of username and name for pc etc, but instead it displays just a black screen with a flashing cursor along with white dashed vertical Lines. If i leave the screen like that then the system just restarts like nothing happened and the Windows error recovery pops up appears but even if i start Windows normally then the loop starts where the system just restarts.
I have tried system recovery and entering safe mode however in both attempts it failed as windows don't exist t... Read more

Answer:windows doesnt boot anymore

Assuming that you have a legal CD and license...change the boot order in the BIOS...insert the CD, clean install.
FWIW:  Once the system begins install procedures from CD/DVD...there is no need to ever "press any key" when reboots occur.

Hi guys,

my five year-old computer running XP SP3 some time ago started to randomly shutt down. After that, it usually doesn't boot anymore. Sometimes turning the power supply off, letting it sit for a while and turning it back on does the trick but not always. As you can imagine, this is nasty if you're into saving your data before turning your computer off.

I've made sure it wasn't overheated, it's also not a virus, I've reinstalled Windows - nothing helped.
The power supply unit, by the way, is only 2 months old and has been working fine otherwise.

Before I forget, I like the old machine, so please don't suggest buying a new one .

Thanks in advance!

Answer:[SOLVED] pc shuts down, doesnt boot anymore - sometimes

You should test the hard drive to establish whether or not it's starting to fail, but first make sure you've got backups of your data on another drive, a pen drive, or on CD/DVD.

Download the DOS version of the drive manufacturer's diagnostic software via the appropriate link here: Hard Drive Diagnostics Tools and Utilities (Storage) - TACKtech Corp.
The DOS version is an ISO file from which you can make a bootable CD using IMGBurn from here: Download ImgBurn -

Create the CD and boot your faulty PC from it.
If available, use the "Long" or "Extended" test.

Answer:My computer doesnt turn on anymore.

Try opening the case (unplug it first) and pulling out the CMOS battery (it looks like a watch battery) then hold the power button the front for about 60 seconds and then put it back in, plug it back in and see if it starts.

I have a Compaq Desktop which kept freezing up today. I did the ctrl/alt/delete to start it back up, then I just shut the computer off.
When I rebooted everything lights up and it sounds like the hard drive attempts to spin and the fan works but the monitor stayed black. The monitor works on other computers. Any ideas?

How do you know it completes Post? Is there information displated on the screen?
You could disconnect the hard drive and prove that the main pc is still working, if it then stays running, displaying a message to insert and os disk you know there is something wrong with your hard drive.

If you have your windows CD, insert it and reboot to the recovery console and run check disk. Post again if your need help with this.

Okay so i have been dealing with this problem for a while. And wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction.

So i have a K8N-SLI Deluxe MBO with a gig of kingston ram (2 x 512) i have a Geforce 6600 GT video card (SLI capable) however the fan on it broke. But i have 3 other fans on my computer to compensate.

This is the problem..

sometimes i get home.. hit the power button computer starts yay everyone is happy..
Other days i come home hit power button and NOTHIN happens. I mean nothin.. so i check and look.. the MOBO light is on so i know the mobo is getting power..
And i don't ever move the computer, so its not like something got lose.. i will use one day works fine and second day it might or might not work.

So i'll start playing with the peices (i build computers so im not an idiot) moving them around cleaning a bit (air)

put it all back together and still nothin.. ill get tired and go watch tv for a bit (or whatever) and come back then it turns on!! its like the most random thing ever.

Has anyone had this problem before?

I am completely out of ideas. I followed someones advice about stripping the system down to find the problem, and of course that was when the computer decided it was going to work every time. I went thru installing all the parts and all the way thru it continued to work. Now every now and then it just wont boot and all I seem to need to do to get it to work is fidget around with a few wires inside the case and then it boots. But this time I tried that and it still wont boot. I dont want to have to take apart my system and put it back together each time it doesnt boot so I guess Im trying to figure out whats going on and fix it if possible. Basically what happens is I press the power button and I hear all the fans kick in, the power and hard drive light stay lit and for a brief moment I hear it try and access the hard drive, all this time nothing comes up on my screen and the only way i can reset/power-down my system is to hold the power button in for 5 seconds. Now when the system does work it starts up just the same, but then briefly flashes the LED on the CD drive before the monitor comes to life and the hard drive LED goes to normal operation ie flashing while accessing, so me thinking would lead me to CD drive, but I am not that knowledgable in this area so any help would be much appreciated

Thanks in advance

I went out yesterday and bought basically an entirely new computer and when I try to boot it up, all that happens is the fan on the graphics card and the cpu fan turns on, all the correct LEDs on the front also work.

I have no power to the HDD and the CD Roms dont work when they are plugged in with the IDE Cable, if i take the IDE off they work fine but the hard drive still doesnt boot.

I have tried reseating the CPU, CPU Fan, Reseting BIOS, Checked Jumpers.

I reinstalled windows and noticed that when playing an .avi file the colors are inverted for all .avi files. quicktimes were fine. I figured that it was a video card or bios problem so I turned off the computer and took out the battery and put it back in and when rebooting it said that a file was missing.
I figured that i needed to reinstall the sata files to run my main sata drive. so i plugged in my floppy power and connection while the computer was on. I think this was my fatal flaw.

now.. when I plug in the power cord the computers fans spin and the motherboard lights up but there is nothing on the monitor. if I try to hold the reset button or power button in front of the case it has no effect.. it doesnt restart. If i unplug the power cord from the outlet to the computer it runs out of power but when i plug it back in it starts right back up without anything on the monitor like before.

Ive had my computer for about 9 months now. It randomly works, and randomly doesnt. Ive replaced everything but the processor and the mobo. The switch is fine, because thats how i shut it down (tapping it shuts down normally with xp). Ive replaced the Power supply. There is a little green light on next to my ram (ram that works, checked already). The green light is solid. When i try my switch nothing happens. But the other day randomly, without me being next to it, it turned itself on. VOODOO! For the first time in 2 months my computer worked. Well, after my computer locked up within the first 5 hours, i restarted it, using the button, holding it down. Turned it on... OK! Then i though, well, im taking this crap out of the basement (where i was working on it) to my room! So i unplugged, and CAREFULLY took it to my room, i set everything up. I carried that huge moniter from my basement (like 8000000 pounds) along with a table, keyboard and all that stuff. Plugged it in, NOTHIN! I knew, well, might be the outlet, so i tried another. Nope. :suspiciou I didnt know what the problem was. Ramdomly after it stopped working iw as in the room playing guitar and it went voodoo and turned itself on again! So i went over and played, I did a system restore to the point where i bought it. I played it for about 3 weeks, (restarting it time to time for lock-ups) and it was fine, until it died again. And now im looking for new mobo and processor to try and see if it w... Read more

Hold the insert key down while you power up, it sets abit's to default processor, then go in the bios and reset the processor speed.

In other words, hold down the insert key, push the power button on, and keep holding the key until you start to boot.

The power to my house went off. I fixed it and turned on my computer again, and the power went off multiple times after that in succession. After the last time my computer no longer boots Windows. I have attempted to start normally (the Windows logo appears and then freezes). I have attempted to repair Windows (it loads Windows files and freezes in a stasis of loading). I have attempted to open in safemode but the drivers stop loading at classpnp.sys. I've even gone into the bios and loaded optimized defaults but still nothing. I'm guessing it's the motherboard? After attempting to repair the usb's lose power so I'm not sure if that would indicate anything. Hey everyone,

I've got this problem that's driving me mad and I can't seem to figure it out.

I have an Intel P4 3.0ghz on a Intel D865GLC motherboard.
It's about a year and half old and a couple of weeks ago I started noticing problems with booting and it seemed to be power related.

It won't start up anymore. The green light inside goes on, so it does have power, then when I push the power button, there are 2 ways it responds. 1) Either the green powerlight goes on and stays on and the cpu fan wil rotate once or twice and then stops, it won't do anything else. 2) nothing happens at all, not even the green light goes on. It alternates between these two situations.

It seems like it gets a short boost of power and then stops.
I had the power supply checked and it was fine and I just replaced the fan and the power cable as well, so that's not it. The processor seems fine, no bend pins or burns.

This is really frustrating me and I would really appreciate it if anyone has any input. I could bring it in, but these people charge 70 bucks just to look at the thing.

I decided to clean out my computer after having numerous video card issues with over heating, so I decided to give the computer a good cleaning, I cleaned the inside especially around the fan, heat sink areas using compressed air and a small paintbrush. After that I booted it up it goes to the windows loading screen but it stops there and doesn't continue. I can however boot into safe mode but that's it.

I feel one of my issues is that I didn't ground my self properly, could that be it? I don't think I touched the right piece of unpainted metal...

I power on the computer, it turns on. The monitor doesn't go to its normal display, and the computer doesnt beep at all. It just sits there, and the cd rom drive's "read" light just blinks over and over.
About 1/30 times of turning the computer off and on it works.

What i've done:
-I got a new hard drive (i was told that having linux on it and then putting windows on it ruins it)
-A new power supply
-New cmos battery
-Swapped ram from another computer to see if the ram died

Still does the exact same thing.

I've recently been helping a friend build a pc, about a week ago it was finished and was running windows 98 perfectly. However he decided to upgrade it to xp home. after the hard drive refused to install xp as an upgrade, we formmated the disk and tried again, still didnt work.

I took the hard drive home and tried it in my base unit (as a master drive after it had been formatted) i installed xp home which was working perfectly. However when the HD is put back into his system it gets as far as the xp home loading page (the xp logo and the little green bar across the bottom) and then it freezes and the green bar stops.

my system is :
2.8ghz p4 prescott
256 ram
asus p4spmx mobo with on board graphics

his system is:
1.5ghz sempron amd
512 ram
asrock mobo with on board graphics

the hard drive is a 20gb seagate. but we have also tried a 20gb hitachi and an identicle seagate.

As the system was running windows 98 fine i dont think this is a hardware problem although when the hd is in another system it runs xp fine. could there be a clash somewhere?

Answer:Self-build computer doesnt boot xp?

XP installed on one system generally does not work when the hard drive is transferred to a new system. So that's you problem at present. It does not explain the original difficulties you were having, however. Suggest at this point you try using the WindowsXP CD to do a repair. Use the second repair option. You do not want to go into the recovery console with the command line.

If your USB keyboard won't get you into the BIOS, might dig that old PS2 out of your closet and set "USB keyboard support" to BIOS. Also make sure the boot order is set correctly.

Am I misunderstanding, is the splash screen freezing?

It was okay this morning andit was working fine although very slow.  I installed an antivirus on the computer (avira) and then shut it down to restart it.  It doesnt boot up now, all I get when the computer starts is the initial windows XP splash screen with the logo and then it goes away and I have a black screen with a blinking cursor in the top left.  And when I shut it down again and restarted it after that, I went through the splash screen and then some windows writing showed up followed by the words "keyboard failure".  I disconnected the keyboard and it still says "Keyboard failure" when I restart.  Weird.  I cant even get to safe mode by pressing f8.  What doI do

Answer:winXP computer doesnt boot up.

Is it possible that this system may have been experiencing a hardware failure that caused the performance loss and now it has reached its critical point of serious failure. Is this keyboard a standard PS2 type or USB, and what was the nature of this system leading up to this point? How old is this computermake/model and how much ram, and did you make any hardware changes or upgrades to it recently?

Hi Michael, looks like you also ran Combofix. Did you do that recently (around when the problems started)? If so, the log may be of use.

Please let me know if you have an empty USB stick/CD burner to your disposal.

Answer:Computer doesn't boot anymore

In response 1 does the green powerlight stay on after the cpu fan stops.

i was in the middle of doing something for school and the computer just turned off all by itself and restarted the load sequence. My DFI diagnostic thing went through all the lights and everything was fine until windows tried to load, just before the boot bar came up on screen i got a blue hardware error screen for about half a second and the computer began again.

I took a hard drive from another computer which i know works and tried it but I got the same problem, it boot up to a certian point and then restart.

Could someone help me diagnose this fault, I am willing to try anything you eed me to do to get a better idea of the problem.

Answer:Computer shutdown and will not boot anymore

Try pressing f8 continually after you turn on the computer and booting into safe mode. Also, if you have integrated things on your mobo (sound card, video, lan) pull out any redundant cards.

I just upgraded my desktop to Windows 8 from Windows 7 using digital download. Everything was running smoothly as I was installing apps and drivers. My graphics driver required a reset after installing, and now when I try to boot up my computer, after the bios and initial windows logo happen, the screen goes dark and the computer stalls. After a while it'll give me 4 beeps. I tried the automatic repair, which seems to be the only thing I can do since I can't boot to the start menu, but the result is the same. I used digital so I have no media to boot from, is there anything I can do to fix this?

Answer:I can't boot my computer anymore after upgrade.

Hi, start in safe mode then locate the driver installation file for your video card and run it again, this should fix it.

I have 2 old computers.

I installed a pc analyser and for each of the computers it gave me weird answers.

The one halted on '00' and the other 'CE'

I have replaced ram cpu etc... with no effect.

And just 10 min ago it was working.

I had taken the cpu fan off to dust the dirt off it and put some more thermal paste on it doesn't work at all.

Please could someone help me sort these issues out.

Answer:Old computer wont boot anymore...

How old are we talking here?

I accidentally dropped my computer while moving it the other day (it was about a foot off the ground). The computer boots and shows POST, but then I get a blank screen; no small cursor, no error message, nothing. I didn't see any cracks when I inspected the board, and my system doesn't sound any different when turned on. I'm not sure what might be wrong, but I'm afraid I damaged one or both of my hard drives.

Reading in the forums, I found a solution of trying to boot from a floppy to recover the data or swap the master and slave drives, although because of what happened I'm not sure either will work. Does anyone have any other suggestions I could try to recover my data?

Hello All,
I would be greatful for any advice you can offer; here are the specs on the new computer I just put together:

ASARock 939Dual-SATA2 MB
AMD Athlon64 3500+ CPU
WesterDigital 7200 WD800JD 80Gb HDD
Aspire ATX-AS520W PSU
NEC ND-3550A Drive
1Gig Corsair DDR-400 Ram

I got WinXp on there, was installing some software, and weird things kept happening. I kept getting error reports, of the variety that says that the program must be shut down and asks if I want to send an error report to the vendor. This was happening a lot, especially with installation programs that worked on my other computer just days before.
Also, I kept getting the Blue Screen of Death telling me that I may have a software or hardware problem, after which the computer would simply reboot, or lock up completely.

At this point, the computer has ceased to function entirely. It refuses to boot and I get no POST beep, and I can't enter the BIOS. All the hardware appears to be working and my cooling fans are all functioning, so I don't think this is an overheat, though who knows. I've checked all the connections and they are fine. I just want to know what could have caused me to go from running smoothly on day 1 to dead on day 3.

Any help is much appreciated.

Hey guys, I am under XP x64bit, and after I installed Quake 4, windows won't see my DVD drive anymore. It is a LITE-ON SOHW-1673S. I have tried a different drive, still won't see it. I also looked in my BIOS and everything is fine. When I put CD/DVD's in it won't even spin up anymore (nor would the other drive (known good)). I have never had this problem before, and this is suppose to be a P&P device. Any ideas?

Hi guys, first time posting. As the title says, I took the heatsink out to clean it and it turns out the CPU was stick to it and it came out as well. I took many other components out as well including the CPU fan, the frame fan and the video card (also took out the fan of the video card to clean it). In short, I cleaned my computer thoroughly.

Now my PC doesn't boot. It has two problems. First one: when I connect the power, it turns on immidiatly (without me pressing the power button) and it stays on but I get no image on the monitor (all the fans tunr on tought, and i can hear the hard drive moving). The second problem is that sometimes it doesn't fully turn on, but turns on for half a sec and then shuts down. This can happen 2 to 3 times before it stays on. I just reset the Bios or CMOS I have no clue wish one it was, thing is I took out the tiny battery in the MOBO for 15 minutes but it didn't fix it. Is worth mentioning that my PC is about 5 years old.

That said, something I notice that when it does turn on with all the fans and lights, is not actually booting. Because after a few minutes of it being on, I press the power button to shut it down and it doesn't work. So I dont think is a display issue, nor a video card issue.

Littlehelp would be greatly appreciated. ^^

(Btw, Sorry for my bad English)

hello guys,
i have inspiron 570 with amd phenom II x4 955, 12 GB DDR3(3,4 GB useable : maybe because the computer runs on 32 bit?) , 2x 500 GB WD HDD, stock motherboard, CX 500w corsair PSU.

i'm wondering if i can upgrade the windows version to 64 bit, i tried a bunch of time and it says "we can't tell if your pc has enough space to install windows 10"

and my computer doesnt boot up when i installed my GTX 960 4GB it just blank without showing anything on the display. but when i remove it, my computer boot up.

please help me!

Answer:upgrade windows 10 32 bit to 64 bit. when i put a gtx 960 4GB, the computer doesnt boot up

You can't upgrade any 32-bit version of Windows to 64 bit -- it needs to be a clean install of the OS.
Yes, the 32 bit issue is why you see only 3.4G as useable.
Are all the power taps required by the video card properly connected when you try the card?

i dont know what this can be can someone please help!!!

Answer:computer doesnt boot and dvd makes noise

If possible attach another HD & try to boot from it. If ur system boot normally without any trouble tnen d case is ur original HD is faulty.

Then u should partioning ur faulty HD with win98 bootable disk & install fresh OS to see resolve ur issue. (If win xp creates trouble then u may use win98\2000 or anything els.) Becoz i think win98\2000 rmore stable than win xp.

If ur HD is good then there may be some faulty device \ driver issue.

My computer started to reboot randomly because of my 2 200GB WD HDD so i thought that it would be a good idea to buy a new case where you can add fans to.
So i went out and bought one. When i took out the parts and put them in the case, it doesnt boot anymore. I think it may be the motherboard because it doesnt even beep when i take out the ram, and the cpu fan still works. Anyone else come across this problem? Here are the specs (if it will help diagnose the problem):

ASUS A7N8X-X motherboard
AMD Athlon XP 2400+
2x 200GB Western DIgital Caviar SE Hard drive
LG 12x Dvd-rom Drive
NEC 4x -/+ Dvd-burner

Go back prior to use of Ccleaner with A System Restore. Then I will tell you how to set Ccleaner to avoid problems. First do not check any registry entries on ccleaner. But lets get it fixed first, then we will set up ccleaner.

I have tried pluging it so many times restarted and no luck. I also just wondered could it be software issue like windows playing games on me? by the way all those devices still work fine in the rear usb ports.

thanks in advance for your help.

If nothing is happening, the usb cable may just have come unplugged. Open up your case and make sure it hasnt accidentally become dislodged.

I got a Combo Printer/Scanner called Cannon LaserBase MF3110, but recently It stopped printering, and the whole printer disappeared from the menu while the driver is still installed. Whenever I try to re-install it in it printers and faxes menu he says that the printing service isnt active, when i go to services and activate it he says its automatic, and being activated upon bootup, BUT its also written Stopped right after it, so i press start and he boots up, only to crash a few secound later, secretly without telling me about it and that why when i go to try and configure that printer again he says that the service isnt active and so on in an endless loop in rotates.

when i look at the log the error message of the crash seems like this:

I had a major issue with my computer and decided to reinstall XP. I used the disk that came with my computer to do the reinstall. That all went fine, but I can not connect to the internet now.I have tried to figure out the problem on my own. I have tried downloading drivers, but it has not worked (I am not even sure if I have downloaded the correct drivers).I have a Dell Optiplex 745, running XP Pro and a DSL connection for the internet. I have downloaded drivers from Dell that say they are for the internet, but have not solved the problem. I did not get the drivers cd with my computer so everything is coming from the Dell website. My DSL connection works fine with my laptop.I have noticed that the DSL connection (when you plug the cable into the computer) does not light up which it is supposed to when I plug in the cable. All that tells me is that it is not working and my computer doesn't seem to recognize that cable connection. I get no error messages or anything - it is like I haven't plugged anything in.I hope I have covered everything. I just need to know what I should do now. If someone could point me to the exact drivers I need (if that is even the problem) I would be so happy. Or just explain what to do if you think there is another problem....i had the same problem as this guy...what do i do, because i have no internet!!

Hello, ive been scratching my head on this for a while.

Last week while playing a game, my Display just all of the sudden died. now given the fact that my 19" samsung monitor has some issues before and that its also 10 years old. i thought it must be the monitor, because i used to be able to just fixed it with a simple fiddle on the DVI port from the monitor.

However this time it didnt come back no matter what i do. so anyways, naturally i was thinking it was the cable, the monitor or the GPU. the GPU was the last thing i was thinking, so i bought a new cable, didn't work, i also bought a new 23" Samsung monitor, and still didnt work,

Now i bypassed the GPU, used VGA directly to my motherboard and both display works fine.

I have a GTX260 it only has 2 DVI ports, non of them wokrs with either monitor.

with my 23" monitor however there is some display, but its like random colors flashing and its just weird and it givs me a head ache. |

so with all that being written is it just possible for a GPU to just "die"?

Fraps the video game recording program i have has stopped working now, it MAY be since XP sp2 but i dont think thats it.
what happened was i was on version 2.25, my mate then said there was version 2.50 out, he sent me it, i downloaded and installed. I tried to start Fraps, the icon appeared in the system, tray then as i went to open it there it disappeared. i tried a reoot and tried again, same thing happened i then called my mate ans he said his worked perfect, so i went and reinstalled version 2.25 to see if that would make a difference, it didnt and the icon dissappears like it does for version 2.50.

Anyway i have no idea hwat the problem is, maybe the version my mate sent me was tampered with, but even so i went to and dopwnloaded the lateset version there, same thing still happened, maybe if i cleaned my registery of it totally would it work again?

If there is anything else you need to know ask me and i will try to answer you

Any help is greatly appreciated

Answer:Fraps doesnt work anymore

Uninstall it completely. Then look under the following registry key and make sure there is not one there for frap:

If there is delete it. Then look in c:\program files and delete any frap directories if they exist. Finally reinstall the app

There ware all sorts of problems after a windows security update a few months ago.
How to repair this?

Win7 x64

Answer:Reeltime doesnt work anymore

Don?t know what notebook you have but the Reeltime is a Toshiba software which can be downloaded from the Toshiba European driver page.

For example Satellite A660:
There are two versions available for Win 7 64bit: v1.7.16.0 and v1.6.06.0

Recommend uninstalling the preinstalled version and to try one of the versions available on the page.

yo guys, i got a real problem here.

yesterday, i tried to send an email, but it said that my ip was blocked/banned/watever because it had viruses or something in it. it said that i could remove myself by clicking the button at the bottom of the page. but it also said that i should remove the virus, or i will be blocked again. so i thought is hould get rid of the virus before i remove myself from the list, and i got crazy! i ran avira, avg, windows defender, adaware, and norton internet scanning to get rid of it. result: 33 tracking cookies deleted.

so today, i turned on comp. I have three emails. Two are inbox accounts and one is a myway account. My Thunderbird has the two inbox accounts in it. So as a "test", I clicked my first email account (in thunderbird) and sent a message to the second. 15 minutes later, 30 minutes later, it still didnt show up in my second email. i was like WTF?

So I sent a email to my myway account. I went into and checked email, and it also didnt show up. So then i sent a email to my account THROUGH my myway accoutn, and it still isnt showing up.

guys, wtf is going on?

Hi all,
Windows 7 doesn't boot while external drive is plugged in. The moment I take it boots up.
Could anyone help me out?
Thank you in advance!

Answer:Computer doesnt boot external hard drive

When you say it does not boot up do you mean it does not power on or it boots to a blank screen. I am not sure this would be your problem but do you have USB set to be the first boot device in BIOS?

I am new here. Hopefully someone can help me. My computer has several problems. The most serious is not being able to get Windows XP to load. I have tried booting in safe mode (F8) but I keep getting an error screen. I installed a game on the computer today that apparent has caused this problem. Any advice on how I can boot to safe mode to remove the program and do a system restore would be appreciated.

Hello, I recently bought a new power supply, along with more ram because I was already ordering the power supply. When the package came and I set everything up in the computer, the PC turned on and everything was fine. I started to play a game with my friend and the computer just turned off. No error message, nothing. I believe the computer overheated, but I could be completely wrong. Now, when I start my computer up, it gets to the Launch System Repair (Recommended) or Start Windows Normally. If I select one of them, it will get into the 'Starting Windows' screen with the orbs, and then the monitor will just go blank. The computer still runs in the background, but my monitor just is blank. It is not the RAM (I switched and went to my old RAM) And I also cannot boot into safe mode, or anything of the sort, as the same thing happens. And I cannot boot from a CD (Tried with a windows 7 repair disc and computer goes blank again)

Answer:Computer crashed during game, cannot boot into Windows anymore.

anyone can help?

So i have a Toshibal laptop running windows xp, it is bought many few years ago. the problem with this laptop is i was using it regularly just like any other days and after shutting it down the night and turning it back on it wouldnt boot to windows anymore. what happens exactly is it shows the windows xp logo loading for 1-2 second, and about a millisecond it shows a blue screen and it restarts and whole thing again and again. i have tried safe mode but nothing would work. i also have a windows xp CD, but it only gives me a fresh install option.
is there anything i can do to fix this computer?

Answer:Toshiba Computer mysteriously wont boot anymore

At the install screen, doesn't it list 'Press R to repair'?
See if you can follow the steps to do a repair install as directed here-

hello all

I recently bought a UMPC second hand in Japan, a Kohjinsha SA1F00B, with windows XP home service pack 2 in Japanese.
the computer has a 500mhz AMD Geode processor and 512 MB of RAM.

I installed a linux distribution on it (xubuntu), which is fine, but in the event it seems to have caused problems with the windows XP boot, for a reason unknown. Now the windows XP partition (NTFS) are still there, but when I try to boot i get to the windows logo and loading bar, but then it hops back to the khojinsha logo.

odd. I was thinking that I would simply reinstall windows XP from the CD.
yet, lo and behold, there is no CD included ! I have a valid microsoft licence, the green booklet and everything but no CD in the pack.
from previous experience with my wife's japanese sony VAIO, I think this might be common on japanese PC's, where they prefer to use recovery partitions. now I do have windows CD's from previous computers, but they're not in japanese and i know this is very problematic for japanese machine specific driver issues.

but my question is, how do I reinstall windows in this case ?
I'm thinking there must be some kind of recovery partition somewhere, like there was on the sony vaio, but how do I access it, and reinstall windows over the previous existing windows install, from it.

or is there anyway to fix the windows XP boot ?

thanks in advance for your help

Hey everyone,

I have a Lenovo ThinkPad T410 laptop running Windows 7, 32-bit. This morning, I used it to check my e-mails and it lagged hard, so I left it there a couple of minutes. When I came back, it seemed to go fine, so I just decided to shut it down and take it to work to read my e-mails from there. (I didn't notice if it shut down properly or not; I left it on my desk and came back a couple of minutes later to put it in my bad)

When I tried to boot it from there, the screen went black right after the Windows flag logo. I restarted it, running the Startup Repair this time and it gave me this problem log:

Problem Signature: StartupRepairOffline
Problem Signature 01: 6.1.7600.16385
Problem Signature 02: 6.1.7600.16385
Problem Signature 03: unknown
Problem Signature 04: 21199687
Problem Signature 05: AutoFailover
Problem Signature 06: 24
Problem Signature 07: BadPatch
OS Version: 6.1.7600.
ID: 1036
I looked up on some forums in search of answers to the problem and found out it was most likely due to a Windows (or Avast?) patch that couldn't be completed or was done the wrong way. As I said earlier, I didn't see if my laptop shut down properly, I wasn't there, so it is possible that it is because of this.

To try fix this problem, I tried to boot in safe mode, but like some others, it hanged when loading \Windows\System32\Drivers\aswRvrt.sys. It hanged at the same spot while trying to boot in the three safe mode alternatives (Safe Mode, Safe Mode w... Read more

If I buy a USB sound card, will that solve the problem? If not, what will? I just want it for listening to music & stuff, not gaming. I would rather have something external, since I dont know a lot about taking computers apart. Please help!

Answer:the sound card on my pc doesnt work anymore.

It may solve the problem, but first, what is the issue (and history) of the sound card you have now? (i.e.---suddenly stopped?, only one speaker?, etc.) It may be easier (and cheaper) to just diagnose the one you have. Could be a matter of bad speakers as well..."Channeling the spirit of jboy..." message edited by T-R-A

Hi, I was working on my Lenovo X301 and the next day i discover that some of the keys do not work and that if I enter certain key strokes and it appears that the majority of the  "qwertyuiop" -line on the keyboard does not work except t and y and also the number line does not work. Is this a problem with the hardware and also how do I get it fixed as I have 3 year on-site warranty however I currently very busy and really need to use the laptop and am currently using an external keyboard which means ive narrowed it down to a hardware issue i think as opposed to a software issue. Any ideas as to what i do.

I was working on my acer laptop (acer aspire 3000) yesterday, everything was fine. Today when I tried to get on, it wouldnt start. All that happens when I turn it on with only the battery is I get 8 amber flashes on the light in front which has a battery symbol next to it. So Im guessing the battery is low. And when I take out the battery and use just the power cord, there are no lights when I press the laptop power switch. So does that mean that the power cord is no good and has never been charging the battery, explaining why the battery is dead? Or could it be something else?

Answer:acer laptop doesnt start anymore

Almost all laptops will work with no main battery installed.  If it doesn't work with only the AC adapter, something else is wrong.  When the laptop is off, the main battery installed, & the AC adapter plugged in, it should indicate if the battery is being charged.

I am using windows 10 since a few weeks now and already encountered a startmenu bug earlier on. This was because of the Teamspeak Overlay which caused the startmenu to be completely unuseable. Ive removed this plugin and ever since everything worked perfectly, until a few days ago.

I received a complete system update which brought me from the RTM version of Win10 to the Build 10532. Apparently im back to the insider preview. This time for windows 10 Professional.

Ever since ms forced me to install this update my startmenu is completely unresponsive and doesnt work anymore.

I also uninstalled avast already and tried to disable dev mode in PS with this:
Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}
Any Ideas?

Answer:Start menu doesnt work anymore

did you opt out of being an insider? the only way I know if to clean install the public release and don't click on get insider builds with in advance update

Except for read mail, none of the other commands under the mail icon in IE work anymore. I have re-checked that OE is still the default mail handler but i cant work this one out. Also when right-clicking on a picture to email using the pop-up menu doesn't work either. I'm using IE6 and OE6 running under XP Pro. Nothing else strange is happening on my machine at this time.

I've tried to update this laptop over 100 times, They wont install, i can download i think.
Before my laptop tries to shut down it tries to install 9 Updates. None of them ever works.
Not even the optional updates can be installed now.

Here's my printscreen

>I've tried to update this laptop over 100 times, They wont install, i can download i think.
And which updates are available? 9 updates and 166MB. What is listed as important update?

If you have good internet connection you should be able to install available updates. If there is some problem I think it is Microsoft related issue.

When you say they won?t install how should we understand this? Is there some error message?

A few months ago I setup an HPDM server on Win 2012r2 along with 12 HP thin clients, Mainly mt245. I could see all of the thin clients with HPDM, I even used it to Image all of them. Yesterday, I went to add a new mt245 abd image it. All of the TCs are gone from HPDM and it doesnt find this new one. I've tried walking the range. I've tried adding it manually as well as telling it to walk the range of the exact IP that the TC has. I can ping the TC from the server and vice-versa. Windows firewall is completly off. Any thoughts? Thanks,Travis

Whenever i go to delete temporary internet files and choose to delete them, internet explorer doesnt have the little animation that shows its deleting them. I Dont believe they are actually getting deleted. Does anyone know why it would suddenly stop showing the animation?

Answer:I.E. 7 doesnt delete temp files anymore??

It's been my experience that IE7 is, at best, highly unreliable. I've had similar problems (not being able to clear the cache) with IE 7 (as well as a ton of other problems). I never found a solution that didn't involve verifying everything manually so I stopped using it.

I say if you don't have to use IE make the switch to firefox 3.

I got a new laptop two weeks ago and it worked well so far. However, since a few days, it doesn't get shutdown to standby mode anymore automatically when it's idling. I've set brightness, screen turn off and standby all on 1 minute to test this. Brightness reduce and screen turn off works fine after the 1 minute, but that's it, it doesn't go to standby. When I use power button or close the laptop, it properly goes into standby mode though, just not automatically. I looked into task manager if something unusable is running, it's not. Also I didn't install anything new since last week, where it was still working.

I'd bet the drive just died. If you can, try it in another computer to be certain. If it's new you can RMA it to the manufacturer. At their website you can find all the needed information.

Office uses a "clipboard" that can only hold a certain amount of data. Try clearing that; go to Edit>Office Clipboard; it'll pop open and you can clear all or select items to clear. Let us know if it works.

i clean installed my t520 with win7 64bit, for some reason my bluetooth, which worked fine previously is gone now, i have tried all options proposed here, i am assuming that there must be an underlying driver (not the bluetooth driver itself) which actives bluetooth. At BIOS start the bluetooth visual ICON under the display is flashing, meaning that BIOS is recognizing bluetooth. thanks in advance for further thoughts.
