Program that helps modify monitor settings?

Question: Program that helps modify monitor settings?

Hi guys,

I got my 21" CRT monitor today. I love the huge screen area. But even as big as it is, I still have trouble reading the text at 1600x1200 (it's native resolution) It looks washed out and blurry. I can read the text but it's not that sharp. The monitor's color is also not good. I have adjusted the settings but I can't get the colors to be as vibrant as on my laptop (or even close) I'm not too happy about my purchase, I thought the color and sharpness would be better on a sony trinitron. Are there any programs I can use to help me modify the settings?

Here's the monitor I have:

Preferred Solution: Program that helps modify monitor settings?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Program that helps modify monitor settings?

Well...there's usually buttons somewhere...like on the bottom of the moniter. There's firmware in the moniter w/ a crude interface....but it will make the colors better. And for the text size, i think you can change the default in the control panel.

Hi, I've had a Thinkpad before but now I have an Ideapad Y510P. The Trackpad seems different. The left and right mouse buttons are built into the track pad, so when I try to click them, if I drag my finger at all, the mouse moves. I believe my old Thinkpad had isolated buttons so this wasn't an issue. Is there a way to disable or lower the sensitivity of the Trackpad at the buttons so this stops being an issue?

Answer:How to Modify Trackpad Settings?

Hi Anubis512,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

To access the trackpad settings please click on start button and then type ?Control Mouse? and select the option or click on control panel>Mouse to access the trackpad settings.

Do post us back for further queries.

3) It helps your skin to turn out firm and tight and helps it produce collagen for better skin health. 3) Apple Stem Cell Cream increases the production of Collagen and helps your skin stay moisturized and hydrated all day long. This is just brilliant. There are no addictives, steroids or any kind of preservatives too. If a woman could be found somewhere that did not support Apple Stem Cell Cream I would be surprised. Why am I supposed to even want that thing? Once the serum reaches your inner layer of skin, the elastin and collagen elements improve the cells of your skin and offer them with the structural support in order to enhance your skin surface. How Does it Work? I said I do not promote doing that with Apple Stem Cell Cream because actually could help a little. So, it is fully safe to use on any type of the skin. 1) Vitamin C & Vitamin E: Both these vitamins are necessary for betterment of the skin and it helps the skin boost totally. And then use soft towel to pat your skin dry. To avoid allergies take better guidance too. This cream is a beautiful formula which aims at providing beautiful skin to women when they are above 29 years of age. In turn, it provides you the glowing and younger looking skin without even opting for Botox and invasive surgeries.

I am running Firefox as my primary browser. I do not have Power Point installed so I have downloaded the PP reader and send downloaded messages to Desktop where I read them. Today I rec'd 3 PP messages. One of them I was able to read. The other 2 said that my security settings would not permit viewing them. How and what do I change to reduce the security settings? TIA.

Answer:How to modify Security settings in Firefox?

you did not say which version you are running. what i have found is for firefox 1.5. the link is below.

Security

Protocols: The options here are 'Use SSL 2.0', 'Use SSL 3.0', Use 'TLS 1.0'. I recommend that you tick all three options, as they use appropriate security protocols (SSL is Secured Sockets Layer and TLS is Transport Layer Security) to ensure secure transmission of data over the Internet. If you encounter any difficulties with a particular website, then fall back to only having SSL 2.0 and 3.0 ticked. If you still have difficulties, only tick SSL 2.0 and if difficulty persists then avoid using the site for entering sensitive data, as all sites should support SSL 2.0.

Hi,

I've got a question. Is there any possebility to modify the BIOS settings of a R600 with a tool?

Best would be something what uses a command line // could be opened with parameters,
I would like to change round about 100 machines remotely --> I definitely would need a tool for that.

Thank you!

Answer:Portege R600 - Modify BIOS settings out of windows.

I'm looking for a program, which will MODIFY existing DVD MENU.

DVD Menu (which I've created) works well (has no problems), but the program, it was created with (TMPGEnc Authoring Works 4 -which is great, simple and easy to work with) - is LACKING couple features.

The function I would love to have is: when playing individual clips (individual movie) on a page - to stop after end of clip and return to this chapter Menu (not Main Menu).

What's happening now: if you'll pick one clip and play it , it will not stop after end of the clip but will continue onto next one.
(It behaves exactly like Movie Chapters (Scenes) on comercial Movie DVDs.)

There is extensive forum on TMPGEnc website, more users are encountering same problem as I did and trying to find work-around.

I have found couple programs on the market, (I've tried PgcEdit.exe) - but it is soooooo complicated, and I do NOT have programing experience.

Looking for some WYSIWYG graphical interface, or if somebody will have "cook-book" step-by-step approach solution - I would appreaciate it.

I have an HP pavilion laptop with W7 Home Premium X64 - new install. The laptop has begun hanging with a black screen upon my request for it to shutdown, restart, boot, or anytime i attempt to run something which causes the windows 7 are you sure you want to allow changes to the computer message box. The only change made before this happened was a windows update. The problem started a few starts after this install. I have searched but most issues address a black screen with a completely unresponsive computer. Mine comes out of it within a minute or so. The screen also flashes a few times during this hangup.

Answer:Isn't there anyway to modify/delete sent feedback in Windows Insider program?

I don't think there is, you should be able to add to it by adding a "meet to comment" under your feedback?
Not saying this is what you should do, personally I type up all my feedback in notepad / word and copy + paste in the feedback app. Due to the intermittent sign out bug have had to adopt a different approach to give feedback lol.

Greetings,

REG-PRNTSRVR1\Administrators local security group contains DOMAIN\Domain Admins as a member.

The default 'Print Server Properties' security tab has 'Administrators (REG-PRNTSRVR1\Administrators)' with full blown permissions. Under Advanced Security Settings, there are two entries for this; one of them has 'View Server' and 'Manage Server' checkmarked applying to 'This server only', and the other for 'Print', 'Manage Printers', and 'Manage Documents' applying to 'Documents and printers only'.

I am RDP'd into REG-PRNTSRVR1 as my own credentials, a member of Domain Admins security group.

Why in the world do I not have the ability to modify these default permissions or modify the settings of printer queues? Even the 'Security' tab of printer queues say 'Administrators (REG-PRNTSRVR1\Administrators)' has full blown permissions ('Special Permissions' not checkmarked though).

Answer:Unable to modify printer settings as Domain Admin logged into Windows print server

Hello,
I am unable to write/modify/replace files in the Program Files or Program Files (x86) folders, we have folder that is placed in Program Files folder, lets say MES folder
we use Active Directory System and all user take file from FTP server if there's Program's Update from System that I make, so new file/files will replace old file/files in MES folder, it was work smoothly in Windows 7 Pro, but not in Windows 8.1 Pro
the things I already do was :
1. Change User Account Control Settings to Never Notify (lowest)
2. Turn Off Windows Firewall setting (Domain, Network Location, Public Network)
3. Change advanced security add local user for Full control, modify, read and execute (to take ownership and grant full control permission of the folder and all contents in it)
I Know from forum it must be about user security issue but this 3 steps still not change anything
How can I defeat this?

Many thanks.

I know this is really stupid and I should have known better, but I panicked.  I have a Dell Dimension 2400, Pentium 4, windows xp, service pack 3.I have been having problems with the hard drive I had, decided to install windows on the second hard drive (took out the 1st one)  I installed windows, drivers, microsoft updates, etc. I have a EVGA 6200 graphics card and decided to load those drivers, well after I did that and rebooted the screen was black, so I went to the website and found an answer that said to change the BIOS setting, well I changed the wrong one. What I did is pressed the F2 key and in that monitor setting changed it from auto to the other option (which I can't remember exactly what it said) something like "onboard".  Now I don't even get a signal to the monitor, can I undo this terribly stupid thing or have I completely shut down my motherboard seeing the monitor?I thought maybe if I could see a pic of the F2 screen I could undo it without using the monitor, just arrow down X amount of times to get to that command? Please help.

Answer:Pressed F2 key and changed monitor settings, now no monitor

Well, I talked to Dell and they said because i have it plugged into the graphics card and I changed the setting to onboard, it's looking for it's original graphics card.  so if i connect it to the computer, instead of the graphics card I should get a signal then change the setting back. I just don't have that connector here, i have to go get one.  will let you know, in case anyone else does this.

Hi, I am running a dekstop PC with 28" Asus connected via Displayport at 3840x2160p as main screen, a 28" Samsung on the right side at 1080p (connected via Minidisplayport Adapter -> HDMI Adapter -> HDMI cable to screen) and a Samsung SMART TV which hangs above the two monitors on the wall.
The TV is connected with HDMI from Graphic Card going into an AV Receiver. The AV Receiver has an HDMI out which goes to the TV. I need this setup for the playback of DTS HD Master and Dolby TrueHD encoded video material.
My graphic gard is currently ATI Raedon HD 7970.
Somehow - in the Windows display settings it shows that I have connected a 4th right to the Samsung 28". The icon of the monitor doesn't show in the normal gray and is instead more black. When I click on the 4th monitor the option "Disconnect this display" is selected and unlike the other monitors I can't place him somewhere else.
When I open the ATI software it says nothing about a 4th screen. So what is going on here?

I teach blinded veterans how to use the computer. Most of the systems we send home with them are highly customized with shortcuts, etc. to fit the individual veteran. It is not uncommon for something to happen to the system once it is in the veteran's home and programs, even the operating system (XP Home) must be reinstalled. Once this happens all shortcuts are lost and the veteran, some of whom are quite elderly, have to cope with trying to use a system that is no longer set up for them.

Does anyone know of a program that can go in and save all the settings and shortcuts for programs, so that we could just send the veteran a CD that his tech support person could load in to restore it to the way it was when we shipped it to him?

Thank you very much for any help you can give with this, it's really been a problem for our WWII vets.

Peace,
Jane

Answer:Program That Will Save All Settings??

Hi,

You could use Norton / Symatec Ghost to make an Image of the original hard disk as supplied with each computer, This would be spanned across a series of CDR's or DVD supplied with the machine.

In the event of a major problem, with a Ghost boot disk, the system could be recovered to its original state.

Drive Image and true Image are similar programs

As you are using Windows XP, you should be able to use System restore.

You could also use PowerQuest GoBack, now owned by Symantec / Norton.

Possible alternative would be to put a second partititon on each hard drive with an image of the original. Your tech support person should be able to revert to this with Ghost, Drive Image or True Image, or other shareware programs

I'm having a problem with my laptop Whenever I open up a program then open up its settings and modify it then click o.k, the next time I open up the settings for that same program, the settings have changed back to what it was before I modified it...i can't seem to save my settings. The main problem I'm having is with the programs that automatically run when my computer starts up. When I open up the program, access its settings and uncheck the checkbox that says "run at startup", it automatically rechecks itself when I open up the settings for the program therefore I can't stop it from running automatically when my computer starts up.My main concern is why I can't save my program settings. I don't think any virus is causing it because I scan my computer frequently and also update my definitions frequently. Please can someone help me out

Answer:Can't save my program's settings

DLoad and install a nice little app called Startup CPL by Mike Lin...it puts an icon in Control Panel that gives you complete control on what runs at startup no matter how stubborn the program....

I recently had a virus on my pc, not sure what it was called, now when i shutdown the pc, the end now or cancel box appears in the middle of the moniter. This is closing my programs in the sys tray down incorrectly, now the pc won't remember my settings and i'm having to restore them when it's booted up. How do i solve this problem.

Answer:sys tray program settings

The "end now or cancel box" at shutdown indicates a program still running that Windows is having trouble closing. This could be any number of things but if it happens every time and you have already closed all the programs you were running, then it's sometning running in the background. The problem is to identify it. Try cancel then ctl-alt-dlet at this point. This will bring up the task monitor. Is there anything still running under the Applications tab? Alternatively under the Services tab, what is using CPU. If this doesn't point to anything then exit from the applications in your systray one by one (right click and choose exit or close)and try to shutdown after closing each one. If you find the culprit then you can stop it running every time either using it's own options (right click the systray icon or start the associated application and find something like options/settings or preferences and untick open at startup or somesuch.) Alternatively you can use MSCONFIG to inhibit processes at startup. Start, run, enter msconfig, ok, startup tab, untick them one by one and test shutdown after each)Chances are though that you are still not virus free. Make sure your virus checker is up-to-date and rerun it. Download, update and run Adaware and Spybot as well. If it persists, try another virus checker. Many of them have a free scan on their website or a downloadable trial version.

If I go into >control panel>add-remove programs>windows set-up> I get zilch! nothing!a totally blank window! So I can't change settings for programs!Could this be connected to my posting re loss of ability to save passwords??Any ideas??xocal

Answer:Lost Program Settings!

Yes, you've lost some of the Windows files. There are a number related to this so I can't specify which one(s) are affecting your system, but I run a number of my stripped systems deliberately in this way with no Windows setup. The simplest way to cure this is to do an "install over". Just run an installation over the top from your Windows installation CD and it will make good any lost files for you and return that facility.Back up your data first as a precaution, but doing this will normally keep your existing programs and configuration intact.

This is one of the problems you will encounter with some software. It simply lacks a decent installer. I don't know if the installer offers you a 'all users' option when installing or not, but you would need this to get it to work properly.

Unfortunately I found the FAQ for this program on their site lacking and incomplete, you can check the link here:

http://www.incredimail.com/english/help/searchfaq.asp

I would suggest you send a message explaining the issue to their support team for suggestions to 'install for a user', you should be able to contact them here:

http://www.incredimail.com/english/contactForm.asp?deptSelect=1

Good luck.

Hello, I have a student licensed windows 7 professional edition and apparantle every time I shutdown my PC almost none of my settings are saved, by settings I mean my Photoshop interface settings, cache settings, my winamp settings, word custom settings, every setting that you do after you install a program, almost every program is back to it's original state just after installation, that is really weird and I am clueless,

any ideas?

Thanks!!!!

Answer:W7 Prof PROGRAM SETTINGS error

It sounds like a registry problem. Are you using anything like Reg Cleaner? If so that is probably the cause. In any event, if I am right you must make the adjustment in your registry. Others here are much more profiecient in this area and will tell you how. In lieu of that you may have to use your Window 7 DVD to do a repair install. When you do correct the problem, I suggest that you download one program at a time, and use it for a while. Just in case one of them is the problem, you can ascertain the offender.

Does anyone know of a straightforward way (maybe a standalone piece of software) in which to store all personal settings for things like Office programs and Adobe Creative Suite. I need to do a full reinstall, starting from factory settings, on my laptop - apparently the only way to enable it to accept Windows updates properly.

Answer:Program to save personal settings?

Only way I know (and which I have done) is to re-install everything, get all settings set the way you want them, check everything works properly, then create a complete backup image and save it to a separate drive or partition.Windows 7 allows you to create a full system image with it's built-in backup tool. No third-party software required.Control Panel >> Backup and Restore >> Create a system image. You also need to create a "system repair disc" so you can boot from it to restore everything from the image. Hi everyone, I have a 512 MB USB flash drive and I was wondering how I can save the Programs data on the USB instead of the host computer?

Example:
I have JCreator installed on the USB and everytime I go to a new computer I have to reconfigure every setting before using it. Is there anyway I can save the settings of the program onto my USB. (Not just this program but others as well)

Any help is appreciated,

I have a problem with the program Kindle for PC. The program starts always minimized and it doesn't remember the last state when it is closed. I want to make it start maximized but the program itself doesn't have a option in the settings that control this.

I am wondering if i can do this with changing the registry settings of the program, but i don't have much experience working with windows registry so i hope someone can help me.

This is a screenshot of the registry settings of the program. Can someone tell me if there is a entry that i can change to make the program start maximized?

Answer:Editing registry settings of a program?

If you just want to open the program maximized. Go to properties of the shortcut from which you normally start it and change the option to run as "Normal Window" to "Maximized".

I was wondering some things...

1: How do you people set up you HDDs when you OS is on one HDD (or smaller partition) and your file are one another? Do you manuely instal things to the d: drive (secound drive)? Or do you move the location of program files and documents and settings?

2: How do you move documents and setting? How do you move program files?

3: Has anyone use this guide in windows XP (Linky )

Answer:Moveing Doc&settings, and Program files.

I would not recommend altering the native positions and paths of these folders. It breeds havoc and chaos eventually. I am currently running a Raptor 36 GB as my OS drive. Everything is installed to C:. I have a 250 GB WD drive as my D: drive, where I store everything (software installers, pics, game updates, mp3s, etc).

I don't know anyone besides complete computer illiterate people who actually use the My Docs folder and such....so it's never been a problem.

Going to get a new computer soon and I want to save some of my program settings. I don't want to image the whole drive, just some programs. Is this possible?

Answer:Can I save my program settings for a new install?

Problematic for many programs with a few exceptions; certain programs' settings found in AppData can be File/Folder imaged and "copied" onto the new computer. For example, I have successfully done so with Mozilla's Firefox and Thunderbird; Google Chrome; and sometimes even with IE.

Hello.Having just learned how unwise it is to operate winxp as an administrator, I have created a user account--but now I need to know how to take all my former settings from the admin account to the user account.Advice?Regards,Phrixos

Answer:Administrator program and desktop settings

Why do you not want to operate an administrator account? If you are the main user of the PC there shouldn't be a problem. It also means you can install software without going back to the administrator account from your user account. My present PC is nearly 4 years old, with Windows XP as my OS and I have never had any problems running as the administrator.

Out of curiosity, where are the settings for IE7/Firefox stored physically? Is there any easy way to change settings without going into the program itself and manually changing them from the options?

I use a VPN, and need to change the internet connection settings frequently. If I could write some sort of script to automatically change these settings it would be neat, and save me about 10 seconds of grief.

im needing to backup some applications, it would make things a whole lot easier when reinstalling windows. isnt there an application where i can either point it to the main executable of a program, or its shortcut in teh start menu and this program will read into the uninstall and grab all the registry data into a file, so that i can save this info along with the directory of teh application itself?

This way i can cut and paste the app over to the new location (another operating system of the same type) then run this application that will spit the registry entries in for the app. Then i can create a shortcut and when i run it i dont want it to complain about any registry problems, etc...

Hi

I recently installed Microsoft Outlook 2007 on my PC.

When I installed it I had to do several updates to the PC (some were major updates, not sure what they all were).

When all the updates were completed and the PC restarted everything had changed.

- The custom desktop image had changed to the default desktop image
- All the icons I had on my desktop were now gone (shortcuts and office documents)
- When using Adobe CS4, I am now prompted to register the product when I access it, even thought it is already registered
- Other applications that previously loaded on system startup do not load.

Does anyone have any idea as to what has happened to my PC and how i can get it back to normal?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers
Steven

It is possible that with downloading MO/07 plus all the updates that either a corrupt file or update upset the system.
Before e go further, could you please try a clean boot
How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7
If that does not work, could you do the following:-
First, to assist in the elimination of possible virus and/or malware.
I would ask you to please use your Anti-virus full scan program facilities, making sure, you have updated the software first. Please advise us of the results.
If you do not have any anti-virus loaded please go to this link and download Microsoft Security Essentials :- Microsoft Security Essentials | Protect against viruses, spyware, and other malware
Secondly, please download:- malwarebytes Malwarebytes a Malware searching program, again, an updated full scan. Notify results please. Both these programs are Freeware

Do you have 2?

If Vista came preinstalled, did you get a 64 bit DVD or a 32 bit?

Question: Monitor settings

I have a new Acer CPU with Vista and my monitor is an LCD by ic power. When I go into Pogo.com to play games, the game window opens very small. Clicking on the minimize/maximize button does not enlarge the screen. Are there any settings I can change to fix this problem? I have already contacted Pogo and they were no help.

All the other web screens open correctly.

Answer:Monitor settings

In an LCD screen, a pixel is aq hardware pixel, compared to the old CRT type monitor where a pixel was scaleable in size.

One of the drawbacks of high resolution LCD screens is that in many places you cannot scale pixels, they have to be on or off, you cannot have 1-1/2 pixels.

I have tried your problem here and confirm that my system will not allow full paging either.

I have an eternal struggle with my monitor. 6 months ago someone played with the buttons on the front (OK it was probably me!) and changed just about everything (H & V position, H & V Size, Shape etc etc...)Now i can't seem to get it back to the perfect settings i had before. Every day i am plagued with noticing the left is quite up to the left of the screen (fiddle left a bit) but then the right isn't straight - the edge seems to curve (fiddle right edge a bit) then another bit looks curved or not in place......Am i trying to meet some impossible perfection or is there an art to getting the image just right??

Answer:Monitor Settings - Best Way To Set Up???

Hi Jester2K II. You will never get perfect geometry on a crt monitor. The electron beam is scanning part of a sphere, and electronic and magnetic trickery is used to coerce it to land on a nearly flat surface in what is acceptably close to a rectangular pattern. When you find a setting that is as close to perfect as you can acheive, leave it for a few days and you'll probably get used to it. If you really want perfect geometry, you'll have to get a LCD display, but then you'll have a different set of defects to worry about.

Question: monitor settings

Hello all, I am very grateful to have found you and I know that someone will have the answer to my problem. In brief, we bought a computer from U-bid and needed an OS. A co-worker loaned my husband his copy of Win XP Home( from Gateway) and he installed it without any problems. We bought a Samsung SyncMaster 753 DF monitor and find that we cannot change the settings so that we can run Real Player properly. It won't allow us to change the number of colors. Actually, it won't let us do anything at all. What can we do? Thanks, Susan

Answer:monitor settings

Hi Sue. Welcome.

I don't know the answer to your question - others might - I haven't used XP much.

However, what you've done is in violation of the End User License Agreement (EULA) from M$. They've gotten pretty ... "uppity"... about it with XP. XP will look over a system and make a note of all the hardware in it and come up with a "unique" number to identify the system and then require the user to register it with m$ (to my knowledge).

Perhaps your problems are that M$ and the XP OS have realized that that serial number of XP has already been installed on another machine and this is what is causing your problems?

(btw, this whole reason is why "bid" PC's don't come with operating systems).

How do I change the monitor resolution? It won't go above the minimum. Seems the driver is wrong! I just got a used computer and my monitor won't set-up correctly. Where do I get a compatible driver, or what do I do?

Answer:monitor settings are too low

You first identify the video board in the machine. Since you don't have the driver, you may have to remove the board and physically inspect it for the make/model. Then, you find the manufacturer's web site and download a current driver.

What is the board identified as in the Device Manager, that's a good place to start. You could also download AIDA32 and see what it has to say, it's pretty good about identifying hardware.

After a clean install of Windows XP I have been experiencing strange website page loading and reloading effects, and the same effects when scrolling with a mouse. I think it is associated with either the video card or the monitor settings. However, since I went from using IE6 to IE7 with the clean install I thought at first it might be IE7 needing more video juice for Internet use.

I uninstalled all my ATI software and downloaded new drivers, but the driver numbers showed the same as what I was already using. However, I felt it never hurts to reinstall the drivers...just in case, because I just did a clean Windows XP install and the drivers could have gotten messed up.

The video/sound card is an ATI All-in-Wonder 8500DV that is being used with a LG W2453V 24" monitor sized at 1980x1080. The motherboard is an ABIT AT7-MAX2 (VIA KT400-8235), AMD Athlon XP, 2083 MHz (12.5 x 167) 2600+ with 1.5GB RAM.

I didn't have the strange website page loading and scrolling effects prior to the clean install, so I was thinking since I went from IE6 to IE7 that maybe IE7 somehow might be the culprit, possibly requiring more video demands. However, I think the problem may be with the settings for my monitor. I've been trying to fine-tune the best settings (2x vs. 4x and 16bpp vs. 32 bpp).

It appears whenever I use 32 bpp on this size monitor I get the gliding, sheeting, pull-down-the-shade effects (like a smooth or gradual cascading) when certain websites load o... Read more

Answer:Help with monitor settings

All LCD monitors have a native resolution. If you look through the documentation that came with your LCD monitor, it will tell you what the native or optimal resolution should be. Looking at your picture you have above, you are NOT running at the 19" LCDs native resolution. Most likely you need to be running: 1366x768, 1440x900, 1680x1050, or 1920x1080. Crank that slider all the way to the right, that is usually where the LCD screens native resolution resides. Hope this helps, take care!

Hi la321,

Please let us know model number for the Monitor. Also ensure that video cables are properly connected with the system. Kindly remove them and connect them back again to check the issue.

If possible then kindly connect this monitor to a different system to isolate the issue. Please check if the fading appears in self test as well:

Running Monitor Self Test

Power off both the computer and the monitor.
Disconnect the video cable from the back of the monitor if possible. Otherwise disconnect from the computer or video adapter.
Reseat the power cord to the monitor, ensuring it is plugged into a known-good outlet.

There is no possibility to change the settings of the standard Vista screensavers. However I once came across a program that could do/allow changing these settings. I forgot the name however and would like to install it.

Anyone an idea what program can do this ?

Today I FINALLY got a driver to work with my X-Fi card in Vista, and while that in itself is a major victory it still lacks something. The driver has very little included in it as far as individual speaker management (none actually). I'm looking for something that will.. say... let me decrease the volume in the right rear speaker and maybe increase the volume in the left rear and left front speaker. I've seen similar program(s) in my mobo's onboard sound software (realtek) as well as my "old" audigy card, but nothing like that comes with I have now.

Can anyone please tell me where (if at all) such a program exists? Thank you in advance for everyone's time and help with my question.

Answer:Program to adjust Individual Speaker Settings?

Until Creative releases proper drivers (read: not likely anytime soon) and the supporting software to do all those things, you're probably stuck where you're at so far. While Vista is vastly superior when it comes to audio capabilities (it really is), the ability to do that kind of speaker-level volume control will still fall under the software application control for the hardware - hence it's up to Creative to get off their duff and do it.

I have read a lot of posted articles using Google search, but none of them are quite the problem I am experiencing.

My hardware is an ASUS Transformer T100TAM. It came with Win 10, but husband installed our registered Win7 in order to get the free Win10 upgrade.

When I go to Settings->Set Default Programs I have found 2 problems.

(1) an application I have installed (EditPad by JGSoft and Adobe Acrobat Pro) is not available to be selected as a default application instead of OneNote or NotePad or Edge.

and
(2) when the application I want is available from the list and I select it, nothing happens. For example, under select default browser, FireFox, MS Edge and MS IE display. No matter which one I select, it returns to the "choose a default" as if I never selected anything. (What I want is FireFox). I have tried setting using by file type (extensions) and protocols. Same result.

Some articles I read suggested the problem is somehow related to the manner in which the OS was upgraded but I found no solutions to the problem.

I would really like to have my preferred text editor, browser and PDF Editor as the defaults and not be constantly asked to set them in settings where I can not.

Thank you for any assistance you are able to provide.

Answer:Default Program Settings Not Setting/Selecting

Hi, a number of people have experienced difficulty with defaults not being retained.

First:
"an application I have installed (EditPad by JGSoft and Adobe Acrobat Pro) is not available to be selected as a default"
It is, unfortunately normal for Win 10 not to list all available programs that might be capable of handling a given extension.

"Two conditions must be met for a program to appear in that list:
1) The program must have registered itself as being capable of handling at least one file type
2) At least one other program must have registered itself of being capable of handling at least one of those same file type(s).
If a program is the only present program capable of handling a specific file type (such as .PPT for PowerPoint files), that program will not appear in the list because there is no alternative."

You can browse to the exe of the program you want to open the file by rt click, Open With, thus:

Hi to all.

Does anybody know how to save your cmos settings to a floppy or CD?

Is there a program that can assist with saving the cmos settings to floppy or CD?

Is there anyway to perform saving the cmos settings within the BIOS to floppy or CD?

I really don't want to go into the BIOS and write down all that info.

I have an HP Pavilion 553w that is 7 1/2 years old, running windows xp home edition version 2002 sp3, 2 gbs of ram, AMD athlon(tm)XP 2100+ 1.73 GHZ, bios version/date Phoenix Techologies, LTD AM35308, 10/07/2002 (Phoenix-AwardBIOS CMOS Setup Utility) SMBIOS 2.3, BIOS Core Version V6.0, BIOS Revision 3.08 10/7/2002.

I know my computer is ancient and I probably should have updated my BIOS, as it is out of date.

Also, after starting up my computer I noticed my time and date is not correct and as of lately have to adjust the time and date to the correct time and date.

I did some research and came across some possible reasons:
1. RTC battery (CMOS battery) may need reseating on motherboard.
2. The battery has become corrupt.
3. BIOS version may be out of date.

My computer is really taking longer than usual to startup and images of icons take longer to display, which may be a sign of the symptoms I listed above.

My computer doesn't have any malware whatsoever, clean as can be.

Any help or advise will be truly appreciated.

Jboman

Answer:Program or how-to for saving CMOS settings to floppy or CD?

CMOS batteries can last 7 years or one. good news is they only cost about $3

To keep your temp files cleaned out I can recommend ATF Cleaner for XP. This combined with monthly defragging and occasional checkdisk should get you sped up a little. Sysinternals Page Defrag is another good utility. UYou can get it at:

I see a file SearchSettings.exe in Program Files/Search Settings/. Also, I see SearchSettings.exe keep popping up in msconfig even after I uncheck it. I am thinking this has something to do with Dealio Toolbar possibly. I got Dealio Toolbar after I downloaded a freeware program from www.tucows.com. Also, I get some message that pops up saying something failed to initialize after shutting down computer and then it shuts down. Here is my HiJack Log.

I am currently having windows 7 (32 bit) , I am facing virus issues and want to reinstall windows 7 on current OS without loosing program settings including oulook which is most imp. for me . please suggest any solution.

Answer:how to reinstall windows 7 without loosing program settings.

Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

This tutorial will help you out: Repair Install

However, before you do so you could carry out a full anti-virus scan in Safe Mode by downloading and installing Malwarebytes first: http://www.malwarebytes.org/

You can get into Safe Mode by tapping the F8 key when you first boot your computer.

Whatever you do, please backup to an external source any personal data that is important to you in case anything goes wrong.

I'm looking for a Windows 7 64bit audio management program,my older creative card died so I've been using on board sound in the interim.Everything works fine my motherboard has the Realtek ALC889 audio chipset.

I've just bought some Roccat Kave 5.1 headphones.

http://xsreviews.co.uk/2011/02/roccat-kave/

The problem comes with the bass management, basically there is none,I used to have my audio go from my PC to my amp which would process the sound to the right speakers, unfortunately it was only a stereo input amp so I cannot connect my headphones through it.

I can turn on Dolby Truebass which massively improves the bass but I think it redirects the bass through the front and centre speakers though which washes out any audio clarity on the front speakers.I want to be able to redirect the bass directly to the sub and set the sub cut off cut frequencies in ALL applications, this was no problem on my old creative card.

So is anyone using or know of a piece of third party software that will give me more options than the standard realtek software?I've checked all over the Realtek site and can't find anything but the basic driver and basic software.

I just want more options.

Cheers

Answer:Windows/realtek audio settings program

I've don't quite a bit of research and as far as I can tell there isn't a standalone program or up uprated driver for Realtek's,its kinda sad really as if I had control over the sub frequency response I would have been happy with the onboard for a while and its perfectly possible to manage within software.

My biggest problem now is protecting my eyes from the new ASUS XONAR's bright shiny gold plated bits :-D

Thanks for anyone who took the time to read the thread
