BIOS reports hardware values wrong

Question: BIOS reports hardware values wrong

I've just recently purchased a XFX NF2S-ALH motherboard. This board supports an AMD Athlon XP 2400+ at 266MHz FSB processor which I have installed. However, the BIOS (Award BIOS) reports the processor as being a XP 1800+ and will not allow me to increase the FSB beyond 233MHz.

I also have installed a 512MB PC3200 (400Mhz) DDR stick of RAM. The motherboard supports PC3200 RAM. The BIOS reports the memory frequency at 200MHz and I cannot increase this to 400MHz.

I do not have an operating system installed.
I do not have a HDD installed.

I simply installed the CPU, memory, and video to make sure things worked.

Any help or response is appreciated. If you have any other questions I will try to answer them to the best of my knowledge.

Danke.

Preferred Solution: BIOS reports hardware values wrong

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: BIOS reports hardware values wrong

well if your bios will not allow you to up the fsb then i would reccomending flashing it. And see if that unlocks fsb and mutiplier and just crank those up until its at 2400+. That would not be ocing it but rather setting it to normal settings. But thats a little hasty i usually go for things that solve the problem but there might be a quicker solution. Let somebody post an other solution before you seriously consider mine

helloI had just updated to the latest bios so don't know if something is amiss there.  my x120e has one mem module, a 4gb Crucial part, runs fine, no bsods no errors that are apparent to the user. anyone know what causes this or if it is spurious?  the main reason I would like to know is that I was about to buy a matching 4gb module, but if perchance the part in here is not just-right for this system, then I shall buy 2 in a matched pair and sell this one. thanks for your help

Lately, I have installed 2x 4 GB RAM sticks into my HP Slimline s5-1200z a few hours ago, however, upon doing this, my graphics for my games have been messing up, and sometimes my AMD video driver will crash, causing major annoyance when trying to play any games I intend to play. When I downloaded an application called Portable SIW, I noticed something quite alarming, as shown in the picture below, circled.

Here is a second picture for reference.

And for another reference.

Any possible reason for this to occur? Thanks if you can help.

Answer:BIOS reports wrong values in RAM, crashing AMD video card

Well; since you are saying the bios is reporting wrong values; you probably should check your system board "builders" site to check for any bios updates that may hopefully correct this issue. If not; also check the ram modules one by one to make sure non of them are bad and that none of the ram slots are possibly bad. Take all ram sticks out and put one at a time back in and see if you can pinpoint the issue.

I haved moved my Windows 7 64bit install from a Dell Precision 380 (Pentium D and Nvidia 6600 LE) to a Dell Precision T3400 (Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700 2.66Ghz and Nvidia GT 610.

Windows 7 is updated for the new hardware with all drivers installed and all devices working.

The Windows 10 Upgrade Program says the CPU is not supported and the 6600 LE video card is not compatible. It is reporting the wrong hardware from the old pc, not the hardware it is currently installed on. How do I get the upgrade program to recheck the currently installed hardware?

I have seen numerous reports of people running Windows 10 on a Q6700 processor. If I need to add a new video card, I can do that.

I have an access report that calculates and displays a balance, premium percent and premium amount for a number of different sellers. All of the info is in the detail section of the report.

At the end of the report, I need a total of balance, premium percent and premium dollar. Balance is easy, since it is in the source table. But I have to total premium dollar, and this value is only available within the report.

I tried "=sum([premium$]" in a text box in the report footer section, but it doesn't work.

Does anyone know how to sum values in the detail section of a report?

Thanks

Answer:Solved: Summing values in Access Reports

There are 3 ways to do it, the first is like you tried, but you must have a syntax error it should be

=Sum([Fieldname])

The other is to duplicate the fields with the values in that you want to sum, set them to invisible and set their Data "Running Sum" property to "Over Group". You then have a text box that says in it's Control Source ="fieldname" where fieldname is the name of your running sum field.
The last method is to have the Query do the calcuations and pick the fields from that.

My system was running fine a couple of weeks back, (Duron 1.6Ghz, 256DDR 266 Ram), then all of a sudden windows (task manager, Dxdiag) says that i only have 128Mb (DIMM) Ram. I haven't changed any hardware or hardware settings recently, and the RAM was recognised fine before.

Hello community, rather strange thing going on with my beloved X1C (1st gen., Product 34602SG, BIOS G6ETA3WW (2.63)):All of a sudden, the system reports that a "wrong AC adapter" is connected and that this adapter might not provide enough power for the device. As a result, the battery won't charge any more. However, I am using the standard 90w adapter that came with it. I also get the error message with the travel adapter (41R4510).Two weeks ago I went to my local Lenovo service partner, who sold me another brandnew AC adpater (45N0238), but the problem persists. In order to charge the battery, I have to shut the system down and disconnect and reconnect the adapter until the LED tells me the battery is charging, which normally takes a few attempts and requires patience which I don't always have...Is anyone here familiar with this issue and knows how to solve it?Cheerslimbonic

Answer:X1 reports "wrong AC adapter"

Check your laptop's dc connector slot, maybe it's detaching. This problem tells you the central pin of the dc plug is not making proper connection to the laptop. The central pin resistance ohm tells the laptop what adapter you have.

This is a minor annoyance is all but it's driving me crazy.
I have a Dell touch monitor that is 1920x1080 and I have a 55in TV that is also 1920x1080
Both of these displays report as that resolution in the display properties of win 8.1 x64
However when extending the displays the full resolution is only 3456x1080 so it doesn't recognize the full 3840 width.
I also use this same computer in a different house with the same Dell monitor but a 40in Samsung tv and windows does report a full 3840 width.
Now I've checked the settings on the tv and I didn't see any setting that might affect this anomaly.

Any ideas on why the difference? I'm just curious more than anything else. The only problem is correcting the icon postions when changing the tv that's connected.

I?ve been running my CPU (Q9400) overclocked at 3.2 Ghz since I put windows 7 in, I have just changed my RAM and can now get my CPU to 3.3Ghz, only a little more I know but Windows reports the CPU at 3.2 Ghz still, CPUz is reporting 3.3Ghz, same as bios.

No big deal but does anyone know why it might do this?

Answer:Windows 7 reports wrong cpu speed?

I have seen Windows do this before. It's so close, Windows is not a precision tool. Trust the BIOS and CPUZ when it comes to CPU frequency.

Hi all

I have a sound file that reports it's only 880k big and 13 seconds long.
If I pay it in a media player, it's actually a few minutes. I also suspect it isn't actually 880k big as it's around 300kbps. I read VBR songs, if encoded incorrectly, use the first bits of the file to display it's time length.

Found this: VBRFix new version: Corrects Stream Length bug

but the program doesn't work, despite it saying it has.

I have others that report being 30+ minutes but are less than 5.

Is there anything I can do?

HiI've had this problem for almost three months now, but I haven't had time to do anything about it until now. In late summer, I installed a dual boot between Win7 RC1 and the old XP-installation, a few months later, I noticed how the battery acted strange. As soon as I unplugged the adapter, the computer ran on battery (as it should), but only for about 5 minutes. The battery status indicates 100% and ~0:45-1:50(h:min) left, depending on the brightness etc. after plugging the adaptor out After about 5 minutes, running on battery, it indicates ~90%, but suddenly dies. When booted up again, it says 0% Same results if booting up XP, only, booting up XP takes about 5 minutes, so I can barely boot it up. Also having network-card-issues running on XP (had that for about a year... -.-) but that's beside the point... So, at the moment I can run on battery for ~5 minutes. I've tried plugging it into a friends computer (same model) and it's the same results. His battery, in my computer gives normal results. So, the problem is clearly with my battery here. Thing is, I have no idea why this is happening. Any advice on 1) what's causing this? 2) what do do about it? Cheers. It might be that it know that I don't like it (the computer) and it has decided to hate me back... (seriously, this GPU is killing me... -.- A, well, I got it from school, so, I suppose this comes with it ^^)

This has been a problem I had for a while now, my GPU is Ati 5850 but windows thinks is 3870, I go into dxdiag or a game for ex Deus Ex HR and there it is, it's not that big of a problem pretty much things work fine like DX11 but in DE:HR I can't select the advanced DX11 options because the system thinks I have an old 3870.

Now I would really like to solve this, should be a matter of just deleting the right files/registry right, problem is I've tried that uninstalled ati, used driver swepper to remove everything ati related and the problem remains.

Maybe I had an 3870 before really can't remember, I did a dual boot with a new x64 win7 and there everything is fine.

No, I don't want to reinstall windows, I have to many projects right now and don't want to mess with that.

It may also return a "machine Check architecture error. After several reboots the error will go away and reappear later on a reboot. Same issue here: I'm having FRU P/N 42T4845 battery in my T420s. It was working fine until some time ago when I did a battery gauge reset using Lenovo's Power Manager. Then the full charge capacity dropped from 32Wh to 5.3Wh. Now I get about 15-25min of runtime until the battery gauge is down to 7% and it stays there for about 1.5-2h until the battery is drained out. During this time I can still use my laptop as before. Same working time just the capacity is wrongly reported.I tried again to perform the battery gauge reset but the charge capacity holds at the same value. It's quite hilarious seeing a low battery warning at 11.8V (both reported and measured with a  multimeter while the machine in powered). It seems that there's a capacity estimation issue in the battery firmware but so far no update/ patch is available for this FRU P/N. I hope Lenovo will do something...

As seen here

Windows explorer reports that i have only 3.36 free space.

I have selected to be able to see all hidden folders (including system etc) and i right click on all the contents of the drive to see how much space they occupy.

System restore is off, i tried Checkdisk, diskcleanup and checked my pc with MSE.

Hi,

My restore media does not work on my G35-AV650 machine and reports "wrong machine", it still boots and runs windows XP. Though I need to do a clean install

My DMI settings have been scrubbed so I need to re-initialise them. On the Toshiba USA website is the DMI utility for the G25 qg25_dmi10.exe, which does not work on my machine.

Does anyone know if a qg35_dmi10.exe exists out there, as I prefer to run the simple utility myself.

Hi everyone,
Today I found a curious behavior on Windows Task Manager for Windows 7 / Server 2008 R2.
The Task Manager displays current numbers of unicast packets and non-unicast packets of each active network interface. By default these fields are hidden, but you can let them appear by adding columns from the View menu.

However, in my computer, the statistics values of "Unicasts Sent" and "Unicasts Received" are both seems to be reversed each other. Similarly, the values of "Non-unicast Sent" and "Non-unicast Received" are opposite, too. When I sent a lot of broadcast packets
with no reply, they are always counted as "Non-unicast Received" . I suppose that they should be counted as "Non-unicast Sent" , by definition.

I captured a screen. I couldn't paste a image here, so uploaded the jpg file as below.
http:// uploader.softether.co.jp/taskmgr.jpg
(Please remove spaces on the URL.)

At first I suspected it is only that my network interface card's driver might have a bug. So I tested Intel Gigabit CT, Realtek PCI-e GBE and Broadcom NetExtreme official WHQL drivers. They did all the same phenomenon as above.
Next, I suspected that all the above three network drivers has the same bug, by accident. So I wrote the virtual network adapter driver by myself using Windows Driver Kits for Windows 7 just today. I let my NDIS miniport adapter's "OidRequestHandler" procedure

Answer:RADAR_PRE_LEAK_64 reports in event viewer - problem hardware?

I would definitely run MemTest....any errors at all and you have a bad stik of RAM...Let it run at least 1 hour.Secondly while thats running i would look up your MBoard Manual and see if the RAM you have is on their QVL list....QVL means it's been lab tested on that MBoard and is an approved RAM.

Windows xp pro SP2, AMD Athlon XP 2400+, Nvidia GeForce Agp 8X, ECS K7S5a 3.1 Motherboard with most recent bios August of 2003.

I have tried every online scan available including all of the one's listed on this site. System comes up clean, although I have had some infections that seemed quite bad in recent months.

Tried SystemRescueCd and booted from Cd with linux-based product and tried scanning with Clam AV with commands:
mkdir /virdefs /mnt/testpart
chmod 777 /virdefs
cp /usr/share/clamav/* /virdefs/
freshclam --datadir /virdefs
mount /dev/hda1 mnt/testpart
clamscan -r -d /virdefs /mnt/testpart

Scan took all night and came up with 49 infections noted but not repaired or deleted. I am unsure why only a scan done in this manner (linux cd boot) would fin any infection where all other tools would fail. Does anyone know commands for this!!!?

Am I barking up the wrong tree? Are my booting problems hardware related or the result of a bootsector virus? I cannot find any definitive info on removing boot sector viruses and have already tried replacing CMOS battery and Windows recovery commands Fixboot and Fixmbr. Bios is reflashed with same behavior as before which is:

If I set bios to anything other than default settings, it may boot eventually, but unlikely. If I reset jumper pin, computer is sure to boot exactly the second time I turn computer on every single time...never the first. Windows is not the problem. It seems something is getting in the way... Hi all.I'm setting up my new T460P to substitute my glorious W520, and I'm very sad about the choise at the moment. I cannot figure out how to change the boot order in the BIOS.I get into the bios (not so easy and not so stable...), go to the boot order and then... I should press the "+ or -" key to move the objects up and down through the list. I tried everything. I think near any combination of keys, but nothing.I cannot find the right key combination to send the "+" or "-". Could you please help me to change the values in the BIOS of my T460P? Thank you very much!

Hello Everyone,
(This is kind of long but I didn't know how else to explain everything)

There are two parts to my question below.

I have a spreadsheet with roughly 40 columns

An Example of some of the columns would be:

Code:

B1 = Client Name E1 = Travel F1 = Backup G1 = PC Install H1 = Data Recovery | X1 = Total | AE1 = Summary
B2 = Tony Smith E2 = $70.00 F2 = $0.00 G2 = $95.00 H2 = $0.00 | X2 = $165.00 | AE2 = (See Below)
B3 = Tom Daniel E3 = $70.00 F3 = $0.00 G3 = $0.00 H3 = $725.00 | X3 = $795.00 | AE3 = (See Below)
B4 = Rene Little E4 = $70.00 F4 = $125.00 G4 = $95.00 H4 = $995.00 | X4 = $1285.00 | AE4 = (See Below)

Currently this spreadsheet is being analyzed to be used to track field technician jobs and figure everything out for accounting.

I have been asked to please make a cell with a list of the information above so that accounting can just copy and paste from that cell into quickbooks in order to send these people out a receipt instead of having to retype everything into quickbooks. This list has to be based upon whether or not there is a value greater than 0 within that cell then it will grab both the heading cell in the first row and the value of that cell it was checking and place it as a line item in another cell.

I know how to do half of what they are asking and if I was dealing with 1 column I can do the other half.

I know how to list items in 1 cell using the c... Read more

Hi,I searched on the forum as best I could but couldn't find a solution for my specific problem...My motherboard recently got fried so I had it replaced.  The BIOS however is now reporting that I only have 8gb ram instead of 16gb.  I checked the settings and sure enough they didn't enable the XMP when they replaced it.  I enabled it, searched through every BIOS setting and even manually changed the DRAM speed to try and get it to work but still it only reports 8gb.  Am I missing something here? Every single article I read they tell you to enable XMP and select profile 1 but I can't find where to "Select profile 1", the closest I find is the OC Profile save slots which just clears all the changes when I load it so it's not like there's a preset already loaded there?MOB:  MSI 970 GamingCPU: AMD FX 6300 ( Also replaced as the heat paste was too old and they couldn't seperate it from the heat sink and it being AMD's silly reverse pin mount, you can't mount it while it's attached. )RAM: Two Corsair 4x2gb DDR3, installed in dimm 2&4PSU:  Corsair HX650WGPU:  Gainward nVidia GTX670 Phantom-  The BIOS, underneath the XMP setting, does show it correctly set to 1600mhz, 9.9.9.24, 1.50v but the BIOS report it still at 1333-  Technician's confirmed compatibility with my existing hardware before replacing it so the RAM should be compatible.-  Running a single dim it reports 4gb... Help...

I have 1GHz of memory on my system (using a Gigabyte motherboard). anyway, for a few days, all systems seemed fine, but I ran a utility on the motherboard CD that lets me do all this crazy stuff like overclocking, and maxing out the voltages on everything ( just nuts! why would anyone overclock when you've already got nearly 3GHz??? maybe I'll ask that question in 10 years....).

After running the util.... stupid BIOS insists I only have 512k. So I tried seperate 512k memory modules... it reported I had 512.. I left just one in.. it said I had 256!!!

Its this an AGP and memory issue or something with the motherboard? I *might* have switched the video card early on as well, but can't remember....

Jason

Answer:Memory - BIOS reports half of what I have

first of all i'm going to be pedantic: i'm assuming you mean 1gb of memory and then layet on 512mb. download and run memtest86 but i don't think that will tell us much. run it anyway to see if the memory is damaged. reset CMOS either using the jumper (see your manual) or by removing the battery for 10 minutes with the computer disconnected from power.

Hello all, I have a SL500I have upgraded to windows 7 home premium yesterday,so i just got all my the software and Lenovo applications updated since i need to reinstall all of them.I also came across with an update on the bios, so i proceeded. I originally had a password set, its the one that I need to enter soon after I switch on my laptop,NOT that one use to log in and out of windows. ( I am not sure if its called the BIOS password)After updating the bios, i was asked for a password when it reboot, however it didnt take my original password anymore. I am not sure if all passwords get erased after updating bios, if it did, i dont get why it still asked for the password when i reboot.  As i kept trying and kept getting the password wrong, i got this message " system halted"After that, the system just reboot again, and from this time on, it never asked for any password when I switch on my laptop. Everything still runs fine, HHD didn't get formatted. But then there is one problem, I can not get into bios now. Would anyone have any ideas what happened to my laptop or solutions to the above situation, please comment and advise. Your help will be much appreciated.Thank you.

In sheet 1 Column A has current values, Column B has the new value for each entry.

Column A Column B
Old value New Value

Document 1 SOP-001
Document 2 SOP-002
Document 3 SOP-003

In sheet 3 has a list of entries
Column A

Document 1
Document 3
Document 3
Document 2
Document 1

What formula can I use to automatically replace the value SHEET3:ColumnA with the appropriate value from SHEET1:column B? The lists are quite long. Resulting in a list on sheet 3 that looks like this:
SOP-001
SOP-003
SOP-003
SOP-002
SOP-001

Answer:Solved: Excel-Substitute values from a list of new values

Hi bongiojf, welcome to TSG.

You can do this with a vlookup formula, assuming that the old values are in the leftmost column and that they are sorted alphabetically.

On sheet 3, in column B (or any blank column) use this formula for the first cell and then copy it down the rest of the column:

=VLOOKUP(A1,Sheet1!$A$1:$B$3,2)

Change the range $A$1:$B$3 to be the range of data you have on Sheet 1. The number 2 at the end of the formula indicates that the new values are in the second column from the left. If they are not, change the number accordingly. For example, if they are in column D, the value would be 4.

Once you have the new data in your blank column, you can copy the column and paste special/values over the existing data on sheet 3.

Hope that helps.

Hi Folks,I am an absolute beginner to this, so please bear with me.I allowed a relative to upgrade my bios and now my ageing Athlon 2100+ (1.7 GHz, I think it was) is now reported under system info as an Athlon 1500+ 1.3GHzI'm not sure what exactly was done with this upgrade and (relative is now on a gap year round the world trip)Any ideas as to what to do in order to have my pc recognise the correct CPU.Do you need further information - if so what - I have a copy of everest home - which lists a whole pile of system info, which really means nothing to me - if that will help any.Cheers

Answer:Bios Update - System now reports lesser CPU

The most likely cause is that the fsb of the motherboard is running at it's lowest, basic setting. i.e. 100Mhz This would happen after a bios flash and it is usuall to reset it.You would need to go into the bios and change the setting to 133Mhz.If you can post the make and model of the motherboard, via everest. It should be easy to do.

Hello, I wonder if anyone can help me....!

I have a Toshiba P100-286 notebook with the following spec:

Core2 Duo Processor T7200 - 2x 2ghz processor
2GB (2x 1048) RAM
NVIDIA?? GeForce Go 7900 (memory : 512 MB)
32 bit Vista Home Premium

Full spec here:
http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/jsp/SUPPORTSECTION/discontinuedProductPage.do?service=UK&DISC_MODEL=0 &highlightOption=63188&com.broadvision.session.new =Yes&PRODUCT_ID=125204#0

According to this spec, the laptop can handle up to 4gb of RAM:

"System Memory: standard : 2,048 (1,024+1,024) MB, maximum expandability : 4,096 MB, technology : DDR2 RAM (533 MHz)"

I have just upgraded using 2 x Corsair 2GB DDR2 667MHz/PC2-5300 Sodimm RAM. I understand that Vista 32bit may not report all 4gb of RAM (it doesn't, only reports 3gb), however I understand that Vista Service Pack 1 may address the issue.

However..... confusingly the BIOS is ALSO only reporting 3GB of RAM. Does anyone know why the BIOS isn't seeing all 4GB? I have tried reading about this issue online, and some people are recommending a BIOS update. However, a lot of people are also saying this would be extremely risky.

Can anyone give me any ideas as to what I can do to the BIOS so it recognises all 4GB of RAM?

Many thanks!

You are not 100% right. The Windows 32bit OS cannot use the full 4GB due to the 32bit OS limitation. After the installation of SP1 Vista will show full 4GB but it will still use only 3GB.
To use the full 4GB, different components like CPU, BIOS, OS and chipset have to support this. If one of these components doesn?t support 4GB then the notebook will use only 3GB.

BIOS update

The people are right. The BIOS update should helps to recognize the 4GB in the BIOS.
But it?s also right that the BIOS update is risky.
If you would use a wrong BIOS or wrong BIOS update procedure than you can damage the ROM module.

Satellite A100-813
Model No : PSAA8E

Recently my laptop 2 gb memory @ 533 mhz got bad and i decided to upgrade this to 4gb and brought 2 x 2gb @ 633 mhz.
Although as per manual it supports maximum 4 gb, but my bios is showing 3 gb.

My Windows 7 64 bit, shows 4 gb, but with 3 gb usable.
Please if anyone can help me to get the full 4gb, is there any issue with the higher FSB.

Also i thought of shared video memory, but when only 2gb is inserted, the bios shows full 2 gb.

Answer:Re: Satellite A100-813 - BIOS reports 3GB but 4GB inserted

The notebook supports Mobile Intel? 945GM Express Chipset
The chip supports the 4GB RAM.
So you should be able to use 4GB?

Is the BIOS up to date?
Check this?

Regarding the Windows RAM recognition:
In msconfig.exe go to the boot tab , Click Advanced Options , Make sure that the Maximum memory checkbox is not checked

It also reports that the CPU is on B:06, D:04, F:00. (I don?t understand these conflict reports.)

Until recently, when these conflicts showed up, the device manager said that the WLAN and Ethernet adapters, and IEEE 1394 Bus controller failed to start. Okay, a lot of info here... Laptops are a lot different than desktops when it comes to freezing and BSOD's. You are sill using XP, so the laptop is a bit old now, right? Did you revert to XP from Vista or Windows 7? This would explain the driver difficulties... Are there any yellow exclamation points in the Device Manager? If so, a clean install of XP might be warranted

I want to insert into my database; 1 of the fields is a 'created' field. eg if its August then is I need to create a variable in vb with August in it. ANd Date onComm is Today's date (now). But the rest of the fields are from an linked xcel spread sheet. How do I code this? At present I have in SQL
INSERT INTO CommCustomer ( Accno, Contractno, DateonComm, Amount, CommDate )
SELECT [ Acc] AS Accno, Milcar.[Contract No ] AS Contractno, Now() AS DATEonComm, [ Rec] AS Amount, MonthName([DateonComm],True) AS CommDate
FROM Milcar
WHERE ((([ Rec])<>0));

But I get invalid procdure call; I actually want it in VB.

sql = "Insert INTO CommCustomer (Accno,CommMonth,Contractno,DateonComm,Amount)" & _
"SELECT "[ Acc], [Contract No ], [ Rec], " & _
" FROM Milcar " & _
" WHERE Rec <> 0 ;"

So my question is how do I insert 2 fields that are not from the select clause - I actually need to use values from them?

'm making a spreadsheet that i want to be able to sort by date. The problem is, I have different levels of specificity for the dates - for some, we just have a year ("2000") or month and year ("December 2014") or a range ("2013 - 2014"). i want those to remain displayed as quoted in parenthesis, but I know I need to go down to mm/dd/yy to keep the sort right. So I'm okay with "2000" sorting as 1/1/2000 - but I can't figure out a way to have a different underlying value from what it actually sorts on, other than the very tedious different custom formatting for different types of dates. Ideally: I'd want to have these columns - "Date (Sort)" and "Date (Display)"...I want to be able to hide the sort column, but still have "Date (Display)" sort based on the values in the sort column. if there's a way to conditionally format for how it's displayed based on whether i enter month/day or just year, but still have it treated as a date in mm/dd/yyyy format for sorting - that would be even better.
Is there a way to do this?

It would either need to boot far enough to load the new BIOS via floppy/USB, or the BIOS chip would need to be removed and flashed.

Please can anyone help? I have a Pavilion G6-2240sa that only shows a black screen when I turn it on - with Caps Lock flashing twice and F12 orange. I've read many posts on forums and know this is a BIOS corruption issue. I downloaded the latest (and in fact every) BIOS for this from the official HP support site and put it on a flash drive using the UEFI recovery tool but none of them worked. Every time, when the tool loads up it shows "initializing" then says it failed with reason "Unable to open BIOS image file". Please can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong - are there different files or particular things I need? The files are in the BIOS folder under Hewlett-Packard (as created by the installer). One thing I noticed is that the files for this model only has two .BIN files. Some other models seem to have .sig and .s12 signature files included. Why does this model not have them and can I find them anywhere?

I have an Asus L2000B Laptop, and one day a friend was using it and found unconfortable to use the touchpad, and asked me if he could use one of the mice os another computer in the room, i said sure, why not?

Well, it was a ps2 mouse and he hot-pluged it!!! :S

Result: the laptop´s keyboard stoped working and so did that ps2 port and also the sole serial port , but not the touchpad.

Restarting, cleaning the plug and all that did not work.

Now when I boot, i get a 'no keybord present/keyboard error' at startup, however, it works fine in the BIOS and in DOS!?!

When Windows boots it lights Num Lock, Caps Lock, Scroll Lock an the keyboard no longer works

In Linux, No lights go on, but it doesn't wor either.

I'm certain that there is damage to the Serial ports/ PS2 ports chip but it's not all busted and probably just ignores any command and just gives outputs.

Now, I've been using a USB keyboard to 'make do' but its very annoying an not very portable.

Replacing the MoBo is out of the question as it costs more than the PC is worth.

I seek a way around the windows drivers, a simpler less demanding driver!

I had a video issue today and while looking at the Intel MB site, noticed my BIOS was out of date. I downloaded the Express (exe) file and tried to update my BIOS from 0123 to 0133, one year date apart. Problem is, Intel BIOS update program shows successful... but when I view sys info it still reports old version. Yes, rebooted to BIOS and same-o, same-o. It lies to me.

Question: Do I have to break my RAID mirror to do a BIOS update? That's the only thing I can think of that might be the issue.

Answer:Intel BIOS update shows successful, but sys info reports no change

Is there an actual reason you want to update the BIOS. If your BIOS is working without any problems just leave it alone. You can completely brick your motherboard by messing around with the BIOS. Just because a later version maybe available doesn't mean you should update it.

My computer started freezing one day and disconnecting from the internet, I reformatted but it is still doing it, so I'm guessing something in the computer is done for. I can boot up and get to the main screen but after about 5 minutes it freezes every time and there is nothing I can do but restart. I can last 5 minutes on the internet before it freezes. Is it the hard drive?

Answer:something wrong with hardware

I'd check the Ram....run memtest86 on ithttp://www.memtest86.com/memtest86-3.5.iso.zipDownload that and burn that to a CD, then boot CD from troubled computer. If memory problems it will show. Also make sure you have latest virus definitions and scan the systen if you can...try to do quick scan.Is this a desktop or a laptop computer and what CPU does it have?

Hi,

I've assembled a new PC with the following specs:
Motherboard: Gigabyte Micro ATX GA-P55M-UD2
Processor: Intel Core I7 CPU 860 @ 2.80 GHz
Memory: 8.00 GB RAM
HDD: 1TB (Western Digital Black Caviar)
GPU: Nvidia GeForce 8800 GT
Power Supply: Don't really remember, but it provides 500-550 watts
Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit

Now since the moment I installed Windows 7, I get random occassional 30-40 seconds freezes. And it seems like 3-4 processes freeze at a time (or everything some times) while the rest work fine, and these processes are random. Other than that my PC runs flawlessly.

I ran memtest on my memory and it passed the tests. I also ran Windows' chkdsk and it didn't detect any errors. "SpeedFan" showed me that my GPU's temperature was 61C, but after a google search it doesn't seem like an issue.

Any idea how I can find what's wrong? I've been trying to solve this for days.
Your help would be so much appreciated

hey all
firstly, here are my computer specifications

XFX nForce 780i 3-Way SLi
CoolerMaster extreme Power Duo 600W
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 @ 2.83 Ghz
nVidia GeForce GTX 260
Corsair DDRII 2Gb 800 DHX
Corsair DDRII 1Gbx2 800 DHX

I think there's something wrong with my RAM.
At the time of the build, i was having trouble with the motherboard detecting the rams, had to try a few combinations before the screen showed 4Gb.

Consider me a noob and guide me please.
Are there any tests i can do which can tell me if something really is messed up?

I opened up CPU-Z, and checked the memory tab, the size was 4096Mb and DRAM Frequency was giving a 400Mhz reading
Shouldn't it be 800?

I also ran the WinRAR Benchmark and Hardware Test for a few minutes, the highest i got in that time was ~950 Kb/s, but considering my computer specs, it should be WAY more. Right?

Help please.

Hello dear experts at techguy, please help me as I am in a very bad state. I had recently built a Ryzen 5 1600 pc. It consisted of ZOTAC GTX 1060 6GB, a MSI B350M Mortar motherboard, a WraithSpire cooler given with processor, a 1TB Seagate HDD, a 250GB Seagate HDD onto which the system is loaded, 2*8GB G-Skill Ripjaws 2400mhz memory, a Samsung DVD-RW drive(old, but still working), CoolerMaster 600W PSU. It all is consisted in a CoolerMaster Elite 311, it already comes with a 120mm fan, and I attached one more very old fan directly to the PSU. It's been only 2 months that I am using this pc, and it has gone bad for the 2nd time, it won't POST. Just a single beep and then everything inside lights up, but no display. I am also using an UPS, but still it's causing trouble. Please suggest, what could possibly be the reason, should I remove any existing components(the old ones on my pc include, a 250 GB HDD, a very old fan, and a Samsung DVD-RW drive), or is it because of the heat. I was told to buy a new cooler for my system, if heat is the problem, then please suggest a good Liquid Cooler.

Bought a Pavilion dv7t-6c00 Quad Edition Notebook 4 years ago, on 2/21/2012.  Never imagined that I would be shipped the wrong Notebook and HP keeps telling me it's out of warranty and they can't help me.  How can it be out of warranty if they shipped the wrong product?  How was I to know I didn't get what I ordered? (I didn't then know how to access information that I now know what and how to find.)  I trusted HP to send me what I ordered and what they invoiced.1)  I ordered a customized dv7t notebook, per the invoice H121670577, s/n 2CE2100J7F, Model A1L97AV, with a 2GB AMD Radeon HD 7690M and 17.3 inch full HD anti-glare LED backlit Display, at 1920 X 10 80.2)  What I just found out I received is a Model A1L77AV, with an AMD Radeon HD 6700M Series, with a 17.3 inch Display with a ("recommended") resolution of 1024 X 768, and when right clicking the screen and clicking on Display, the highest resolution option is 1280 X 1024.3)  So it looks like I got the wrong model, with the wrong graphics card and with the wrong screen.  I don't believe the 30 day return rule applies to me as I didn't get the right product to begin with, so the warranty hasn't even started.4)  There are no HP choices to click on to address this problem.  The HP Chat Room could not help me and transferred me to Tech Support.  Automated Tech Support put me in an automated loop and then hung up on me.  There is no way to contact HP via the internet... Ok, just to let you know, I am not a complete newbie to computers. I am 16, and have custom made my PC. Heres what I put in it:
Asus A7V8X-X Motherboard
AMD Athlon XP 2800+ CPU
512 MB of cheapest Kingston RAM (not sure what speed)
GeForce FX 5700 128 MB Vid Card... ummmm that should be good
30 GB 7200 RPM Seagate... I have windows and music on this
80 GB 7200 RPM Seagate... I have games and backup on this
I DO defrag when win2k tells me to
onboard sound and lan, and the rest blaa blaa blaa
I have the most recent drivers for vid card, and drivers installed from cd for motherboard.

Some of my games are really bugging me. I really like Morrowind. My old motherboard processor and ram I gave to my brother. Some Abit motherboard AMD Athlon XP 1800+ and 512 MB of RAM. He has a 32 MB GeForce MX. Morrowind is working better on his computer than mine. I tried Reinstalling, and the problem still isnt working. I put the view distance down, and I am still only getting about 25 FPS. Sometimes it will jump up to 90 FPS.
Morrowind will also act like it is crashing, but it starts to work again when outside. I think it might be loading areas, but my hard drive is calm. Also when I go indoors, it loads fast. But when I go outdoors, my brothers computer goes about 4x faster.

Battlefield 1942 is outragiously not working. Ever... Read more

After 10 sec it's showing scanning and repairing C drive. After completion my PC is opening normally, good to go but not really good. put this together a few months ago, never had a temp problem, but recently i get warnings for high cpu temp. I read up in intel's site, and find an article that says a recent bios update adjusted the fan settings, and the desktop utility may have to be adjusted to set the threshholds. I do so, setting the cpu limit to 65C like suggested and all was fine for awhile. Now i see it again, and when under load im running high 50's to low 60's, idle brings it down to mid to high 40's. I am using this machine for music editing and im not sure if im pushing it too hard, as im mixing tracks with quite a few vst plug ins and virtual instruments. with around a dozen tracks im geting 60 to 85% cpu usage, and may not be adequate computing power for what i really want to do.

Seems to me that months ago i recall the cpu fan winding up faster and quicker, thought i remembered intell desktop utility reporting at idle around 1500 rpm and up to 5500 rpm cpu fan under highest load at times. so i took the case cover off and ducted the cpu fan, tremendous reduction of fan speed. I never ever got a message saying it was running too hot. I still have the case cover off, with my cold air duct on it, and cpu fan runs at 980 rpm when idle, allowing 50+ C temps, and a sudden full load will slowly rise the fan speed to 2200 to 2500 rpm, and the temp rises really fast to high 50's to low 60s'. If i render a song, which puts a full load on the cpu for a time, ill get a temp limit over 64- 65 and fan neve... Read more

I'm not questioning your ability to apply paste, I'm just making sure your aware of a few things.

What brand of paste did you use? Arctic Silver 5 is a poor choice for todays modern cpu's. It is inferior to the paste that was originally applied by the manufacturer. I recommend using Newegg.com - Tuniq TX-2 Cooling Thermal Compound.

Using to much paste, especially Arctic Silver 5, can dramatically increase your temperatures. Use no more than what would equal a single grain of dried rice.

Your power supply isn't affecting your temps and while a better heat sink for the cpu would help, it's not required. If your "stock" heatsink and fan are clean then I can't help but think you've applied just a little to much paste.

My laptop is Dell XPS 15 9560, i7-7700hq, GTX1050, 16gb RAM, 512 gb SSD. I downloaded HWiNFO64 to check my laptop hardware, but it is showing that my laptop contains Intel HD 610. Answer:wrong graphics card hardware

Looks like not a lot of difference between the 2. Is there something you think the 430 could do that the 330 cannot? http://gpuboss.com/gpus/Radeon-R5-M430-vs-Radeon-R5-M330 Not trying to justify misleading advertising just trying to figure out how bad the damage is. It definitely looks like an error. The 430M has 4 gigs VRAM and the 330M only has 2 and your specs clearly say 2 gigs VRAM.  I am sure it was an honest error.

I just purchased a used T60P with an upgraded Hitachi 320gb 7200 hard drive.  However, most of the ThinkVantage utilities are missing.  The Recovery partition is missing.  Also, the hard drive has been subdivided into two smaller drives of 127gb and 170gb.  Finally, this computer originally came with Vista and now has a copy of XP Pro on it.  I DO want the XP Pro.  Here is what I would like to do: -- upgrade the BIOS to the latest version-- install XP Pro Recovery partition from a Lenovo CD  -- repartition the hard drive into several smaller drives-- install Windows XP Pro and all the ThinkVantage utilities  My Questions========== 1.  Does Lenovo sell a CD for upgrading the BIOS? 2.  Do I just need to purchase Windows XP Recovery disks?  Or will I also need the Vista Recovery disks, since the system was originally sold with Vista? 3.  Are there any special problems because the hard drive is so large?  If so, should I re-partition it before I try to create a hidden Recovery partition? Thanks! Joanna BenzT60p 8743-CTOsystem s/n - S/N removed by moderator    Message Edited by JaneL on 06-01-2009 12:39 AM

Answer:T60p, hardware ok but wrong software

Hi Joanna , 1. You don't need to buy a CD to upgrade BIOS. you can simply download it from Lenovo support website, just make sure your get the right version for your laptop; 2. As I know, Lenovo does provide a Vista to XP downgrade service with a varied fee. If you get the WinXp recovery disc from Lenovo, when applying it it will delete all the existing partitions and install the preload WinXp system and ThinkVantage utilities. And of course it will also create a hidden service partition at the same time. 3. The big HDD is no problem. The hidden partition is created automatically without your intervention. After the preload system is recovered using recovery disc, you can repartition your hard drive, but sometimes this may destroy the hidden partition. You have to be careful and use the recommended tool. Good luck, Norm

Hello, wasn't really sure where to post this but...man.

Side note:this laptop was dropped or stepped on. ill explain in post.

So my buddy asked me to fix his toshiba and i have been having a great time. but sadly cannot get any operating system to load. Here follows the system specs, what ive done so far, and my main errors im receiving.

So i started off by using f8 to access windows boot command, would not run command prompt or repair.

So....I pulled out my personal windows 7 home premium disk to see if it would respond better to that repair menu or access the command prompt with the repair tools but everytime right before the installation menu it would hang up, similiar with the f8 command.

shortly after I received an error stating no valid devices are found and it would no longer read my windows 7 installation disk....system retry failed or something..

so I pulled out a box of old crap moved aside a yearbook and found an old windows 98 cd and precided to try cd booting with that which was a success.

so then i was messing with dos and deleted my partitions and fdisk exited right after...woops thought i would be able to recreate those parts....anyways it closed down and was no longer able to read the drive. prompting a> on start haha and a si... Read more

Hello

When I play Diablo 3 I get some fps drops , usually at the same places. usually im around 130 FPS but can go down to 50 or even 25 sometimes when its bad. its not unplayable but its no fun at all.

The places are demanding I guess, there is a lot of **** on the screen and action all around.

My current setup :

Nvidia 780Ti HOF , goes to around 60C during load
i5 4570 goes to around 65 during load
8 GB ram,

Im assuming the 780Ti should be able to handle Diablo 3 even when its demanding?

I used an AMD r9 290 earlier and got the same issue at the same places.

Before I changed card from the 290 to 780Ti I formated my computer and installed Windows 8 Pro.

So it shouldnt be any software causing this,

Am I doing something wrong here?

Is it perhaps my CPU?

What can I do?

if you want to I can record the actual gameplay and show you

Hello there,
Recently setup my home wifi network, i had been noticing that my link speed to any device through my Dlink DIR 615 router, was always 65Mbps (as reported by the device), i searched around that i should set the channel width to 'auto 20/40mhz' to gain speed; however now that i did that, the link speed increased but only to 150Mbps as seen in the screenshot attached.

I could live with it but when i check the router's wireless status page, it reports the link to be 300'M' (which hopefully stands for Mbps) as it should be, sometimes its at 270M as well, but it always reports double of what windows and other devices like my android phone report...
i'm having a hard time figuring out whats going on with my setup.. i've checked for interference but there are hardly any other wifi networks in range.

Some more misc info about my setup: I use a Dlink Nano N300 adapter with my desktop...which was recommended for use with the router. Using WPA2-AES PSK, running the router in WPA2 only, wireless N only mode...Generally receiving full bars throughout my home.

Why is there a conflict in the link speed info displayed on my devices and the router?

Thanks

Answer:DIR 615 reports link at 300Mbps, windows reports 150Mbps

Some more details, i installed the crappy dlink software to obtain more information about it and surely got soemthing out of it.
In the attached screenshot, its written Tx/Rx:150Mbps/300Mbps...which basically means its transmitting at 150M, hence what it shows in Windows, which leads me to the question, why?

Fisrt, I'll re-post my message from another site:
Okay guys, here is the deal: I bought a GTX 680 as a replacement to 570, it didn't fit. Yesterday I got a new case, Corsair 650D, and installed everything into it with only new part being the 680. Mobo is Asus p8p67 B3 and cpu is intel 2600k. Also got 3 HDDs, 500Gb old one, and two more or less new 1TBs one of which is my system drive. Upon installing everything I tried booting. Before that everything lit up, including my power button LED, however when I pressed it nothing happened. I obviously connected something wrong but after messing with the cables just used my mobo button, it booted up. However upon booting I faced another problem - EXTREMELY slow Windows 7. Boot up takes couple of minutes which is fine, but the system itself is barely moving. Don't get me wrong, it's the HDD. Animations and buttons and everything works fine but takes a LOT of time to load. Folder icons take some 30 seconds to start appearing, browser boots up for 30 minutes and then loads pages for hours, that kind of thing. Programs boot for minutes. I got 8 gigs of RAM like before but it's not being used at all unless some program finally opens. CPU is also under 1% load most of the time. I thought that it had something to do with cables and ports I used to conmect HDDs, since I do not remember the positions they were in with the old case, but after trying few combinations it didn't help. Also, installition of drivers took windows minutes for each, an... Read more

I've worked with SFF cases before (e.g. M93p-SFF) and once the cover and front bezel are removed, typically all that is now needed is to un-latch the main drive assembly by pushing in the one tab on the chassis which locks it into its normal position.  Once that tab is pushed in, the entire drive assembly can now be swung up 90 degrees and locked into place for maintenance.

However on the M800-SFF case, the optical drive is mounted into an adapter bracket which in its own locked position actually blocks the chassis tab which must be pushed to release the main drive assembly and allow it to be swung up.  For a long time I couldn't figure out how to release the optical drive properly so that I could move it inward and away from the chassis tab locking the main drive assembly.  There is actually an opening in the optical drive adapter exactly for this purpose, if only I could figure out how to release the optical drive adapter and push it inwards so that the opening in the adapter gets positioned right in front of the chassis drive latch tab, now finally allowing the tab to be pushed thus releasing the main drive assembly.

Ok... lots of unnecessary detail, I know.  My annoyance is simply that I did not have a Hardware Maintenance Manual for the M800-SFF(10FY) machine and couldn't for the lif... Read more

I just updated my Nvidia graphic card driver to 275.33 version..

But after the update, Firefox chose to use the Intel HD graphics card for hardware accleration instead of the Nvidia graphics card. i checked using about:support and it showed the Intel card being used instead

Is there any way to alert firefox to use the Nvidia card instead ?

Additional Info:
Nvidia GT 425M
Firefox 5

Thanks all

You should be able to select the Nvidia card in your Bios when you are booting your PC

If you use a dedicated graphics card (Nvidia, in your case), you probably should disable the integrated graphics card (Intel) in the BIOS. Then Firefox won't have a choice.

Good morning,

I will try to explain this best to my knowledge. I have a worksheet that will work as a report. This report will be based on Contracts. In one file (Physical) I can have multiple contracts. All linked to the same file number.

Example if file number 1234-45678 as 2 contracts then my code will automatically add the information required, adding 2 contracts for file number 1234-45678.
Therefore my initial row 5 (Example only) will add a new row underneath and will add the following information:

A5: 1234-45678 B5: 002 C5: 1234-45678/001/HS
A6: 1234-45678 B6: 002 C6: 1234-45678/002/HS

So my column A will always be the same linking the 2 contracts. 1234-45678/001/HS and 1234-45678/002/HS belong to file number 1234-45678.

If I need to make an amendment, in house an amendment is to make modification to a contract. In my column B I will always have the amount of contracts. In the example above the amount for Contracts is 002.

If I make an amendment and the reason of the amendment is a Termination, therefore cancelling one contract to create another one, I need to be able to change all information in my Column B vs All information from Column A. So for Example:

If
A5: 1234-45678 B5: 002 C5: 1234-45678/001/HS
A6: 1234-45678 B6: 002 C6: 1234-45678/002/HS
And I need to make the above modification then I need to add another Contract but change all information from my Column B (Made in a userform, already establish). So the above example will become:

A5: 1234-45678 B... Read more

Answer:Add Values in column And change Values in another column vs .find match function

The code for Sheet5 ("Report") is the following:
Code:

Private Sub Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Range)
Application.ScreenUpdating = False
Application.EnableEvents = False
On Error Resume Next

'This function will add a new row if the number is higher than 002
If Not Intersect(Target, Range("M5:M1000")) Is Nothing Then
NumRows = Target.Value - 1
For R = 1 To NumRows
Target.Offset(1, 0).EntireRow.Insert
Next R
End If

'This function will copy the information onto the next rows adding a /??? and /HS
'This will depend on the number that the user has inserted in "Contracts" in Column B
If Not Intersect(Target, Range("M5:M10000")) Is Nothing Then
On Error Resume Next
For i = 1 To Target ' stops the code looping
tmpArr = tmpArr & "," & i
Next i
With Target

With .Offset(, 1).Resize(.Value)
.NumberFormat = "000"
.Value = Application.Transpose(Split(Mid(tmpArr, 2), ","))
.Formula = "=A$" & .Row & "&""/""&TEXT(ROW()-" & .Row - 1 & ",""000""""/HS"""""")"
.Value = .Value
End With

.Offset(0, -12).Copy .Offset(0, -12).Resize(.Value)

Does anyone know a simple way of converting access querys to crystal reports. I am using access 97 and crystal 8.5. I have several querys to convert, and some have parameters (prompts) already setup in access. Does anyone know of any shareware or freeware available that could be helpful?

Hi!

My computer is Qosmio X300-11W. I've jist installed a new Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit.

I installed all drivers from the list wich I recieved from Toshiba's technical support. But the problem came up when I tried to install "Hardware Setup", I've got a message "Wrong serial number". I can't understand which serial number is wrong.

Answer:Re: Qosmio X300 - "Wrong serial number" if I install hardware setup

Hi

As far as I know this error message appears if your mainboard was exchanged from an authorized service provider and they did forget to set the correct serial number.

So I think you should contact the nearest authorized service provider. The technicians can try to help you.
Here you can search for an ASP:

Question: Wrong bios

Hi
I seem to have the wrong bios installed on my computer.

my mother board has onboard graphics which have not been used (but did work) as there has always been a better graphics card in the agp slot and the onboard disabled.
the graphics card is now playing up and I would like to go back to onboard graphics but it is no longer displayed in device manager,
I have checked in the bios and can see nothing about enabling it,
I have tried removing the graphics card and plugging the monitor into the on board vga socket with no effect.

over the years the comp has been reformated a few times.

I have tried installing the drivers from the mb disk but there is no VGA install button on my mother boards disc's menu although it shows it in the mb book ?
It appears that the bios I have is for the basic mb jetway (P4XFM) and mine is the (P4MFM) but when I try to replace the bios it says it does not match.: and will not install

sorry this is so long winded but any (polite)sugestions would be much appreciated.
many thanks
pete

Question: Wrong Bios??????

So i'm having a little trouble with my audio and because of this i thought flashing my bios to a newer version (2002 last flashed) might help out the situation. The funny thing is i download the newest Bios from the ASUS website and then try to EZ flash them and it tells me i have the wrong version, so i decided to use an older version (but newer than what i'm using now) and it still doesn't work. What could be the problem here? Any suggestions would be appreciated? Thanks in advance

Answer:Wrong Bios??????
