Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains

Question: Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains

idk how much info to give since this is work related, they're on a server, they all use xp pro machines wit 2gb of ram, logging onto server no prob but to start the Great Plains program itself takes like 3-4 mins, is there a way to make it go faster?

Relevance 100%
Preferred Solution: Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains

No. Since it is running off the server there is no way to make it load faster on the client machines. I would wager to guess that the server is trying to load it on several machines at once, and then again on several more as the program is not being called all at the same time to all the machines at once.

So the server has to process each request and then fill it.

My company uses Great Plains on a Citrix Metaframe environment for their accounting and bookkeeping. We have about three or four users who are experiencing a small gray box about an inch square that sporadically appears and disappears. I have tried reinstalling the program, but that hasn't helped. Any ideas?

Answer:Great Plains annoyance

The software could be attempting to update or something of the likes. Depending on the end users permissions, you may need to log onto the terminal as an Admin and test to see if you can then view this grey box.

Can you compare the versions and other details of the software for the users that have this issue against the users that are not affected?

Hi Everyone.

I was using a Microsoft program called Great plains on my 2003 server
Once in GP (Great Plains) I went to the toolbar and selected another program called FRX that GP uses.
It proceeded to ask for the location of the FRX.exe file that it need to open, so I browsed to the folder found the FRX.exe file that I thought was the correct one and opened the link.
Well as you have probably already guessed this was not the correct exe file that it needed so now every time I select FRX in GP it opens the wrong exe file.

How do I correct this problem how do I change the link to open the correct exe file

Please help the accounting dept is on my back

Answer:How Can I Change this link In Great Plains

goodness! You're into a very specific application and how it stores references to internal data and files.
*Maybe* 1/1000 users even know what Great Plains software is!

My first thought is to open G.P. Preferences and see if you can find that reference.
As G.P. is multi user, it is impossible that settings are in the client's system registry.

While you're looking about, find the right location of FRX.exe and create a shortcut for it
and drag it to a well known location for reference latter

Hello there,

I am using Great Plains on many machine in the corporation & I just installed it on a new machine & created the connection of the database in the ODBC from the Control Panel >> Administrative Tools.
but when I login through great plains software it says "There isn't a valid login record on the server for the user ID and password you entered. Contact your system administrator or attempt to log in again using a different user ID",
Is there any solution for this problem ?

Answer:Solved: Great Plains login issue

Well, Since I am new at my job now, I realized that an administrator using Great Plains should add a new user internally from Great Plains for the new comer, & it solved the problem

Doubt this will get answered but its worth a try I guess.

First off, I am running XP SP2, SQL 2008 workgroup edition with SP1, RMS 2.0 with SP2.

Everything is a fresh install, RMS Headquarters administrator, manager and server all work great and connect fine with the sql server. As soon I as try to launch Store Manager or Store POS I get the error "Version Mismatch, The current database is of version 0.00, while this application requires version 2.01. Please run Store Operations Administrator to correct this problem."

weird thing is my Store Operations Administrator opens just fine. I tried to google this error, got nothing. Please help, any suggestions would be great.

This is better suited in the operating systems subforum, you posted this in the network forum.
As long as you can connect to sql fine(which it seems like you can), assuming that its on the network and not on the same server as RMS then you have end to end connectivity, the network is not the problem.

Dear all, I'm testing Lenovo Helix to work with Microsoft Dynamics CRM. A strange issue has occured during test: when the tablet is working on WiFi, MSD performance can be a bit sluggish. In the airplane mode, MSD gets a boost performing way better than when connected to the internet. I have been browsing the internet for a while now and cannot find any explanation on this but found nothing. Don't know if the issue is tablet-related or MSD-related. Thanks in advance for your help. Kind regards,Pawel

Answer:Helix and Microsoft Dynamics - performance question

I am assuming you are using MS CRM through outlook, not the browser. So when you switch of your internet connection and have the offline client installed, it will revert to offline mode. Which can be faster because of:1. Data is not traveling over the network, only to a local web server on your machine2. The amount of data/plugins etc. you have localy is probably much lower, based on how you setup your offline filters Try pinging the MS CRM server and see what the latency is. If it's higher than say 100ms this might be the cause of performance degredation. Of course it depends a lot on the implementation. If you have a lot of client side scripting / SL web resources which communicate with the server, the  connection speed (latency) between you and the server will matter a lot. In general if you are having performance issues with the Helix check what speed the CPU is running at. This machine, among other issues, has a tendency to get stuck at 0.6-0.8 GHz and not get any higher, which has a massive impact on performance. This especially happens when you allow it to run out of battery juice (like keeping it at sleep for a longer period).Solution is to do a hard reset of the tablet and the base through the small holes near the power ports.

I have set up all my sales contacts/prospective clients in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2016. I have assigned certain contacts to certain 'Marketing Lists' and I want to send each marketing list an email with a PDF attachment.

From my exploration so far it seems that I can send an email with a pdf attachment to an individual contact and I can also do this for an 'Account' but it doesn't seem that I can send an email with a pdf attachment to an entire marketing list. I
have also explored doing this with a 'Campaign' but then you cannot attach a pdf from what I can see...

I want to be able to use the application as a one-stop-shop for keeping contact info and also distributing marketing material to individuals and in bulk but so far I can only use it as a database of contacts and still have to use my regular Outlook

I fear to update Vista anymore, because there's always a new trouble with each update. First, the network icon for dial-up went off and dial-up showed not connected after SP2 installation, then bluetooth discovery went dead, after some time whole network center was behaving strangely and finally, week or two before, most strange thing started to happen after a bigger update rollup - a directory or directory link named A or B was created hidden on the system drive, which basically lead to the drive itself, but after trying to remove the directory, explorer hung and eventually went dead- hard reset needed. After a restart or in the safe mode, directory is empty and can be deleted. After some time again, it's back, causing another hang-up. Spybot found nothing, updated ESET Smart Security is always on and found nothing, internet was disconnected, if it's a virus or malware, it's pretty unknown. Enough for my nerves- I did a complete Vista reinstall, this time I also installed Ubuntu just to have at least one reliable system ready.
Well, everything went ok, after installing SP2 from offline package network icon worked ok, bluetooth and wifi as well. My happiness didn't last long indeed- after installing remaining post-SP2 updates, annoying A and B directories appeared again. Any help, or even a confirmation of the same problem would be welcome. Thanx!

I have been using Microsoft Security Essentials on Windows 7 Ultimate and it have proven to me over many tests that it can hold its own against all the rest. I'm not saying it is better or worse but I have felt more confident each day I use it.

Trust me when I say I have tested it to the maximum in trying to comprimise my HD by downloading the really bad stuff. Each time it has stopped whatever came from outside dead in its tracks. Told me in easy to understand terms what MSE was doing and what I had to do to help. Many times I had to reboot because the virus was in memory and or hiding on my HD and couldn't be deleted while Win7 was running.

I'm sure many of you will burn me at the stake for saying that I like MSE. Let it go. I'm not telling you to change. I'm just making a statement that I believe is true.

I'd like to hear from folks that have more knowledge than I about how MSE works differently and uses less overhead to do it.

Answer:Microsoft Security Essentials is a great program!

Since I don't like when my computer automatically wakes from hibernation when I open the lid, I changed the lid close behavior to "Do Nothing" in the power (mis)manager.  Which means that I have to always remember to sleep it or hibernate it manually when I close the lid and leave it for a few hours or minutes or whatever the case may be. It worked. It worked like 6 or 7 times, and then it started turning itself on again when I would open the lid.  So I re-booted.  It started to work again as it had.  Waiting for me to un-sleep it, or un-hibernate it. Until that 6th, 7th, or 8th time, when it again started waking itself on lid open.  Then I re-booted again. Is this part of the credo that "we couldn't think of a usage scenario where you'd want to open the computer and not use it?" Are you just trying to make me tacitly agree to your new default, that my computer should turn on when I open the lid?  That my computer should actually be on when I don't really want it to be on? And, seriously, can you imagine the futility of making a support call for this?  And can you imagine the massive waste of time it would be? Just update the drivers to make the thing work the way it should.

Our company started using Dynamics CRM in May of this year, and it seems the uptake on it wasn't what we expected. Other than BCM (which was a pain to migrate from), what would be something we could move to that would be cheap/free that we could move our customer data to? I was thinking maybe Salesforce, but with the number of sales reps we have, we'd need more than 5 accounts which would mean we'd need to spend $65/month or more to accommodate our business. Currently, MS CRM is $44/month.

If anyone has suggestions I'd like to hear them. Thanks in advance!

Im building a new case and i need some help on fan placements, Here's my idea...

Mid size case
plexi top, side, and front

Front: 2 x 120mm Blue LED fans, 69.85 CFM (Intake)
Top:1x 120mm Blue LED fan, 69.85 CFM (Exhaust)
Back:1x 92mm Blue LED fan, 48.11CFM (Exhaust)

Now i heard that having a fan on the side of the case is bad, putting a "T" in the air flow will slow it down alot, BUT having the air just passing through the case and hardley even touching the MOBO wont do much. Having a fan on the side will take the 2x 120mm fans air flow and push it onto the board wich is what really needs the cooling, ANY SUGGESTIONS would help and where abouts on the side would be most efficient?!?!? thanks!

Answer:Help! Thermal Dynamics! FANS!

if the side fan is closest to the CPU, i would use it for intake.

u dont realy need to worry about air blowing on the Mobo, all u need is circulation around the bourd, and primary intake on the CPU. and or GFX card.

I want to extend volume to C but suddenly it become like this..
Can anyone help me..

Answer:All hard disk are layout as Dynamics

You should never have converted to dynamic disks. They should be avoided in nearly all cases.

You need to convert back to basic disks. Back up your data first.

I would use option 4 from the link below.

Convert a Dynamic Disk to a Basic Disk

You can also use Partition Wizard to extend C. You will first have to shrink the D drive and then expand C into the space you saved by shrinking D.

But get rid of the dynamic disks first.

Lets see how this goes.

What do you think? What do you use for scanning websites for vulns like, sql inject, cross site scripting and other vulns.

You can have a firewall, but it will permit 80 and thats all that is needed.

I have eval'd SPI Dynamics and soon will eval Cenzic, after going to SANS Network Security in Las Vegas. They got good recommendations from some ppl I met.

Hello guys,

I'm new here and have a very troubling scenario. I have been trying to deploy Microsoft Dynamics Navision 2016 on a Wide Area Network. My client has 3 branches. Those working at the H.Q (which is where their server is located) have had no problems at all connecting to the server since day one. However, clients from the other two branches are on VPN and cannot establish a reliable connection to their server to facilitate discharge of their responsibilities.

From these two problematic locations, I can still ping the server with an average latency of 23ms. Currently we have them connecting to their servers via desktop machines running windows server r2 where they initiate remote desktop connections to these servers which is however limited to a maximum of two users at a time. This is a temporary solution. Anyone with a workaround to this problem?

I am having constant issues with Outlook not displaying the "CRM" Ribbon at the top, I have tried going to the the registry and deleting the 2.4 key that did not help, please see this link The Outlook and CRM ribbons disappear from Microsoft Outlook when you use the Microsoft Dynamics CRM Client for Microsoft Office Outlook
Exit Outlook.
Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
Locate the following registry subkey:
Right-click the 2.4 registry key, and then select Export. Save the export to your desktop to create a backup.
Right-click the 2.4 key again, and then select delete.
Start Outlook.
This did not work as the ribbon still was not showing.

Answer:The ordinal 459 could not be located in the dynamics link library urlmon.dll

In very general terms, most likely what is happening, is that the wrong DLL is being accessed.
On my system, I have 6:
So for instance, depending on your system configuration and the program, it could be accessing any of the above DLLs (or the appropriate ones on your system), and that URLMON.DLL doesn't have the ordinal 459 in it.
What probably happened is that the programmer may have used an different version, and the version you have, doesn't have the reference in it. Yours could be older or newer than what the programmer used, and thus the issue. Make sure you have the most current program, and your program mets the specifications.
Best of luck.

I am getting Parsing errors when trying to analyze traffic for MS Dynamics NAV 2013. Attached image shows the error. What is interesting I see this messages only for that specific version of NAV. NAV 2015 already works completely fine.

Any suggestions as what might be the cause and/or a remedy?

Question: bad to great

Bought a Thinkpad Yoga S series. Sure wasn't expecting the headaches I got though.Out of the box, the wifi wasn't working properly and the power adapter wasn't charging properly, at least not when you needed it to. Go to web site to look for updated drivers. Had to get them downloaded via another computer and transferring to a thumb drive. After updating, the laptop was still the same. So, I updated Windows, still no fixes. This laptop was basically useless to me if I can't get online or keep it charged upWell, I was considering returning it, but had a hunch that the problems were software related (Lenovo's bloatware).Well, since I had originally planned to swap to the 1TB SSD Samsung 850 Pro anyway for double the storage and blazing read/write speed, I decided that, instead of cloning the image to the SSD knowing I'd still have all the same problems, I decided to do a clean install with an OEM copy of Windows 8. Before I did, I made sure I had all the drivers I would need downloaded to a thumb drive, along with a boot recovery in case I had any issues. Once I had that, I removed the bottom cover and pulled the 500GB WD spin drive and put in the SSD. Plugged in an external cd drive with the Windows disk in it. Turned on the laptop and the installation began. I anticipated problems but had none. Windows was even already activated when it finished, so it found the embedded key on its own. The wifi was still not working right, but the power adapter was. I had already gotten the ... Read more

Question: Aww... Just great!

I tried to make a post earlier, but I can't find it again... It was about my problems with a SoundBlaster 5.1 Live! Digital card.

Now I've pulled it out, and now I am trying to salvage of what's left of my video card... Or at least to figure out WHAT THE F*** THE PROBLEM IS.

I have Win98 SE, and a K7VZA mobo, uncertain of manufacturer. I have, newbishly enough, tried almost inserted a metal plier in my system, a few days ago, trying to pull out an analog sound cord from the onboard sound card. I realized that I was about to put shiny metal static things in my fragile fragile system, and stopped fiddling with the plier, but I am not sure if I managed to kill something. (The analog sound slot was in between my GeForce 4 MX440 and my network card).

Problem as of now: When I try to change the screen resolution, that is, when I am clicking the tab pane "settings" in the screen menu, the monitor goes black, except for a blinking underscore in the top left.

I tried setting the hardware acceleration to "none"...

Any ideas?

Answer:Aww... Just great!

the motherboard is an ECS. I have no idea what happend. If the video card works and only has problems when you change resolution, that sounds more like a driver problem(download newest and install). If you just installed this sound card and were using onboard audio. make sure it is disabled in the bios. Disable the onboard audio.

Answer:I need some more great help

Have to remove the cover, I have not had a sony in a while, odds are there are screws in the back that allow you to lift the cover off. Take a good look for what the cover is and what holds it in. If your lucky from there, odds are your CDROM is held in with 4 screws, use a magnetic screwdriver, make sure CD jumpers are the same and unplug the old one and plug in the new one and do it all in reverse

5 blue screens of death in 2 days. And now whenever I start up my computer, it takes forever to log on and usually freezes for about 3 minutes. How can I change this and stop this from happening? And is there any way of knowing what caused the blue screens of death?

Answer:Oh this is just great.

Hello youthedog4

about the blue screen of death
Try going to advanced option
reboot the computer
as the computer is booting press and hold your "F8 Key" which should bring up the "Windows Advanced Options Menu" as shown below. Use your arrow keys to move to "Disable automatic restart on system failure" and press the Enter key.
Your system will attempt to restart normally, but when it crashes, it will not re-start. Instead, you will see a BSOD with error message.
Record the error message in full detail, and post in this thread.
or have you tried "Last known good configuration that worked"

Please let us know.

Well I am at my wit?s end.

I have an Acer Aspire 5601AWLMi laptop. Centrino Duo T2250 @ 1.73GHz. Windows XP Media Center SP2. Intel i945GM Northbridge. Intel 82801GHM Southbridge. 2GB DDR2 memory.

The laptop did not come with any O/S cd?s.

I use Norton Internet Security, Trend Micro Anti-Spyware and Windows Defender. I keep all programs updated. I have scheduled scans and I do manual scans as well; I have never had a virus or similar. I run Registry Mechanic about twice a month. I defragment every couple of months.

The laptop used to run wonderfully. It was very fast; it was sometimes faster than my HP desktop of about the same age with twice the RAM. Then the change. It was not a gradual change; it was sudden. From the time you push the power button to full desktop (including completing password screen) used to take around 30 seconds; it now takes almost 10 minutes. No, I am not exaggerating when I say 10 minutes. It boots so slowly and struggles so badly that even the Windows 4-note ?chime? at boot sounds broken up and takes much longer to play than it should. If you try to do something as simple as open a blank Word document or open My Documents folder or similar at any point in the first 10 minutes, it will open (hopefully) within a minute. There were no changes (hardware, software etc) to the laptop at or near the time of the change.

I did not expect much help from the Geek Squad at Best Buy but decided to give them the $60.00 to run diagnostic... Read more

I hate Vista, I hate Windows 7 so now I have to put out a large amount of money for them because all my XP Pro's (I have three licences), are no good anymore? Microsoft, I just hate you!!!!! Jerks.
Anyhow, that's not my problem at the moment. I have been able to send e-mail with my Outlook Express but not receive any. It just sits there and groans, silently, and does nothing but time out and quit. I called my server and we tried everything to find the reason, IT came to only one conclusion, its Outlook Express that has the problem and now that I hear there are no longer any updates for XP, that's probably what the problem is. I noticed a change when I downloaded and installed their last updates. Now what?
I am sure I am gong to hear something I don't want to hear, but I do have the Pk 3, is there anything else I need to update off their website before they yank it off too.
Oh, forgot to add, I can get my mail off Cox Mail so have to go there to get my mail. spankyjo54

I just got a great LCD monitor that you should all consider if you are buying an LCD monitor.

The NEC LCD1715. 17 Inch monitor with a 16 ms response time. Great for not only applications like Photoshop, but any game you can throw at it. I have played every game I own at max details, and not once has it chopped up on me. Due to the 16 ms response time no doubt.

Anyway, it's the nicest monitor in it's price class. If anyone is looking for a gaming LCD monitor, this is the one.

Something is creating hundreds of .tmp files most(all?) in a folder called C:Users\[name]\AppData\Local\Temp\. How do I tell what is making these files and how do I get it off my computer? Symantec Antivirus periodically pops up to tell me it's quarantining these huge lists of files that keep growing, which slows my computer quite a bit.

So I am reading more and more about how MS is really going to button down on security and DRM in the new OS. I have traditionally been an MS guy because I really felt for a long time that their efforts and intentions were pure, in the sense that they could really make computing easy for the average person while continually expanding the horizons of what computing and the internet could accomplish. Now I realize how misguided my beliefs were as MS is pandering to the biggest SCUMBAGS on the planet....HOLLYWOOD. I firmly believe that this is to get support from the Media Companies for the IPTV edition products that will be coming out....MS wants you to have access to cool things....but they want you to pay for it....and on their terms.

So it got me thinking...what if.

What If......MS continues to tighten its death-grip on media rights and customizability on all of it's products AND on the glorious release date of Vista......BAM!!!! Apple releases OSX86! What would you do??? WWJD? WWBBD? 2 OSes, 1 Decision........WHAT WOULD YOU DO.

I can only hope that Apple is seriously considering this EPIC opportunity to snatch-up disillusioned windows users by the truck-load. Literally...a chance to capture a large portion of the OS market overnight.......

How great would that be?

Answer:Daydream - How Great Would It Be If..........

i, er, have a "friend" that has osx installed on his main rig.
I know its developer edition and designed for a p4 dell, but nothing works. No ethernet, no 3d, no sound, no sata....its a mess right now.

Vista will be released first and it will be much better than osx_86

I used the early public beta and found it unusable as desktop OS but having upgraded to 8 I find it tolerable (Added classic start menu. ).
Two or more monitors really help with switching between Start screen and desktop.

Answer:8 is great if you have two monitors.

It is even better with three monitors. . .

Why it's great:
People are too stupid to manage their windows. I know I am overwhelmed when I have too many windows open, and I'm definitely better at using computers than most people. I know you don't want to admit it, but YOU cannot handle having many windows open either.

Window chrome wastes space. It is also hard to arrange multiple windows onscreen at the same time.

The lack of flashy looks makes text and buttons slightly faster to identify.

Why I will never use it:
HTML/Javascript is NOT a first class language:For example, the version of cut the rope completely rapes an atom/equivalent CPU, while the native version runs smoothly on the slower iPad. If microsoft is pushing HTML5/Javascript, EVERYTHING it says about battery life is COMPLETE BULL.

Windows RT lacks features:If it's impossible to write a good browser in it, then there are critical features missing from the runtime.

Not open:Every metro app needs to come through the store. I oppose this out of principle, and it's also practically bad. Maybe I have portable apps or something.

Normal programs don't run in it:100% of the programs I use do not have a metro version. Most probably never will. Microsoft could have made existing programs work with the metro switcher(windows are resizeable), and I would probably have used it on my tablet then.

Can't have 2 of the same thing side by side:like 2 web pages or email messages.

Can't run things in the background:What i want to download a torrent? What ... Read more

Answer:Why metro is great, and why I won't use it at all

Totally agree with you on that, i never have 2 windows side by side, unless doing a comparison of 2 images.

Well this is the OS forum of [H] so where better place to discuss all OS's. An Os's job is to basically extend the attempt at a universal state machine to something closer to a true Turing machine and each CPU-OS matchup have their way of doing it

I mean all OS's had/have their place and all OS's have their purpose, be it an Operating system for a mobile, or an operating system on a super-computer

The fact that there is soo many is enough to say no operating system is perfect (or we would all just be using that OS).

I mean Take AmigaOS. FANTASTIC!!!, workbench was just soo good, kernel on ROM so silly-fast booting, it also had a fantastic multitask manager, Super for games YET it is all but dead...

so sad

Answer:The great OS debate

i miss dos....seriously.
