I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi chaps,

Just thought I?d write this small post for those developers using Microsoft?s Programming IDE Visual Studio 2005 and thinking of upgrading to 2008.

My first impression was that the only thing different was that the made the IDE controls have a tint of blue...
Well to be frank, tats all they have done graphically to the IDE.

Performance wise, they have improved it 100%, compiling c++ or large c#/vb.net applications tends not to hang as much, and the active debugging is more or less instant unlike vs 2005 were it found it entertaining to let the user think it had locked up...

One thing that caused a bit of a chew when they released vs 2005 was the fact you had no choice to program in .net framework 1, they made you use .net framework 2, well Microsoft has actually took notice this time, we can now chose whether to use .net framework 2,3 or 3.5 when creating a new project.

One thing that programmers might not like is the fact we no longer have j# shipped with the pro version of vs, even tho I tend not to use j# I still noticed it missing.

Overall, Microsoft have done a good job with this release, it?s a big step from the things that are annoying in vs 2005, It seems they have took notice of their customers and instead of adding a lot of junk they have worked on making things better.

I?ll keep this post updated for anyone Interested, and would like to see other people?s opinions on this as well.

Cheers,
Philly

Answer:Visual studio 2005 vs 2008

Hi. I have been using the VS 2008 Standard Edition Beta 2 for C# on my XP machine. Soon I'll be moving it to Vista. The thing I find curious is MS acts like the Standard Edition doesn't exist. It seems like they either want to give you the Express Edition for nothing, or sell you the Professional Edition for a bundle!!

The type of applications I write are small Windows utilities or components/controls. So I have no need for Team VCS elements or Enterprise Middleware. Just need lots of drop-on components to make
things easy.

btw I'm curious if they fixed the broken help links in the released Standard Edition. Kind of a pain when every search or F1 while cursor is on the subject fails and you have to manually use the search function.

Other than that though, I could use my ActiveX Controls and I like the way the editor does formatting and lint on the fly.

you just have to attend one of the events on that page and they give it out for free. this ain't spam. yall know me! just something i found at slickdeals.net.

Answer:Visual Studio 2005 and SQL Server 2005

Um no to get in your going to pay $400 depending on what event you go to. They generally give out free stuff but it isn't promised. But I do agree they probably will give it away but you still have to pay to be at the event.

MSDN is another way it can be free. But again there is the subscription fee.

Besides these I don't know of any other ways to get it cheap.

Well, the thread title sums it up pretty concisely.I develop OpenGL Apps in C++ on my Lenovo T400. My OS is Windows Vista 64 and I use Switchable Graphics. When using ATI Graphics my apps hang since i installed the lastest ATI Driver for the T400 (Release: 2009-04-28) when (and only when) starting the applications in the debugger. When starting the apps directly (either compiled for Debug or Release targets, both 32-bit) however, they work (!). As far i can tell it hangs when it tries swapping the buffers (for double buffering). This happens both in Visual Studio 2005 and 2008. When will there be a fixed driver?

Hey guys,

We are running an MSSQL 2005 Server with a clients database on it. The client uses a developer in India who is using SQL 2008 Server Management Studio. When he tries to connect to our 2005 Server, he gets an error. We have downloaded and reproduced the error and it appears to be a problem with 2008 studio trying to connect to a 2005 server. I have asked the developer to move to a different version of Studio, but for the future I was wondering if anyone here knew of any kind of fix for this at all?

Heroes Happen {Here} is what Microsoft calls the promotional tour for three of its 2008 products which will come to many cities in the United States this year. Users who attend a launch event will get a promotional kit of the three Microsoft products Windows Server? 2008 operating system, Microsoft? SQL Server? 2008, and Microsoft Visual Studio? 2008.
Not everyone can just walk in though and grab the copies, you need to register to be able to attend an event and even then kits will only be given out as long as supplies last. Events will also take place in other countries. A quick check revealed one event in Germany where attendees have to pay a fee to be able to attend the event. They still get the software kit with the newest versions of the applications though.
News Source: http://www.ghacks.net/2008/01/22/free-copies-of-windows-server-sql-server-and-visual-studio-2008/
You have to give a company name and job title during registration. It is unclear if Microsoft will reject applications if they do not meet certain criteria. The first event is on February 27th in Los Angeles, the last on May 22nd in Reston.

Ok, previously to get something from a database to a variable in a web based app the code went something like this:
DataAdapter.Fill(Dataset1)

after the dataset had been filled in this way a variable could be set by

variablex=dataset.tables(0).rows(0).items(0)
Now, after converting the project and all associtated files I've got SQLDataSource to use.

So, after lots of fruitless searching I'm asking just how the above statement translates to work as a means of retrieving a field from an SQLDataSource?

I am having a problem with the Visual C# component of Visual Studio 2008. The error message can be viewed below (all of my image hosts are also stuffed up, don't know why). I have tried un-installing and re-installing Visual Studio with no success. I don't know if it's defective or if my computer is having a problem with the program.

There is no Build menu either. I wonder if these issues are related.

My parents bought a PC last year running W8. I set up there talktalk E mail accounts in the W8 Native E mail client from the Mail tile at the start screen without any problem. All worked fine until recently when in order to download an app they had to register an Outlook E Mail address. Not sure if they had updates applied as well but they had to start logging on to the PC at boot up every time using a password. In an effort to resolve this they restored the PC to an earlier time which has cured the logging on issue (ie no password required) but when they access the Mail tile from the start screen it is an outlook E Mail account that comes up. I have tried without success logging into this outlook account and then adding the talktalk accounts. I even tried using my own account but could not add that either.
All they want is to click the Mail tile and get there talktalk accounts to come up just as before (no outlook or hotmail or anything else). Is there a way to reset the E Mail client/tile in W8 back to what came with PC so that I could set it up just as I did when the PC was purchased. They are running W8 and do not wish to restore back to factory settings as they have a few other bits and pieces of software installed.
If they upgrade to W8.1 will they be forced into using a password to log on every time ?
Any help in restoring the E Mail back to the native W8 client would be much appreciated

Hello,

I have a question for any one working with Visual Studio 2005 Pro:

I just went to a company were thy do development and it is a really small company. They have a VS2005 Pro Full Package and they used it to install on 5 computers.

Scince i never worked with Visual Studio my question is, can the install it on that many computer with just one box or is it like all the other products where you have to get 1 for each PC/User?

Answer:Visual Studio 2005 Pro

Depends on their licensing. They may have an MSDN subscription which should allow 10 or more depending on the level. If it is retail then it will be just 1. If they had an MSDN you would think they would use the 2008 though, unless they have old unfinished projects.

When it finally got done loading and I tried to open it, it says my version of Windows (which is Vista) is not compatible. I did a search for solutions and found an update patch for it, but it says I don't even have the program on my computer to update the software, which I do, or THAT patch isn't compatible, but it wasn't the one listed for Vista and/or 7.

With all the chaos of trying to get in touch with my uncle before thanksgiving and gathering parts before thanksgiving I haven't had the time to keep up to date on my software.

I have to say that the Visual Studio 2005 Suit is a great improvement over VS .NET 2003. It allows for programing on mobile apps just as 2003 did but can also emulate your programs in case you do not have the right tools to test your apps with. I'm also impressed with the 64 bit coding and I'll be sure to explore more in depth on that area.

Question: Visual Studio 2005

Hi, what is the cheapest way to get a copy of Visual Studios 2005? It doesn't matter what version, just so long as it's at least standard. I want to get a copy because I'm going to use it with the book "Beginning Visual C++ 2005" by Ivor Horton. I can't use the Express edition because it doesn't include the MFC libraries. I have a copy of VS 2003 .NET, so if it's possible to upgrade I might be able to go that route.

Answer:Visual Studio 2005

MFC libraries are fat and outdated. Most developers don't use them anymore. Learn C++ with ATL (Active Template Libraries).

A friend of mine is doing some development for me with Visual Studio 2005 and we're wanting to know if there's a way to create an installer that doesn't require users to install the .NET Framework on their computer, requiring about 22 megs of extra download and install time. It's excess baggage, and we'd like to do without. Is there a way around this? It says there are 3 dependencies, and we're wondering if there's a way to only package those with our installer, and not the whole .net installer.

Answer:from Visual Studio 2005; can I do without the .net framework?

If you have use the .NET Framework to develop the software, the users must have the framework on their machines. No tricks.

You can include the required framework version in your installer.
Or users can download the framework on their own. The application will warn them if no framework on their machines.

I have been using Visual Studio since Jan. or Feb. of this year and it has worked perfectly. Back in March my motherboard was fried and I couldn't do anymore developing until I got my computer fixed which was no more than a week ago. I am using 2 HDD's and my C:\ Drive is 20GB and my D:\ Drive is 40GB. My main drive is naturally my C:\ Drive because it has my Windows Installation on it. I am now trying to reinstall Visual Studio 2005, but it will not install the actual application. I converted the IMG file from Microsoft and converted it to an ISO and I am emulating the image using Daemon Tools. The installer will open and let me go all the way to where it starts to install then gives me an error saying "Visual Studio 2005 - ENU failed to install".

I am trying to install the application on my D:/ Drive which is my Secondary Master because for some reason it wont let me use it as a slave drive. It wont let me use anything for a slave drive come to mention it. I am installing all of my programs on my D:/ because of space. Its alot easier so far.

Any Help?

After the installation I have to add Everyone to Debuggers group. I had no problem to do it with ver. 2003 however there is NO Debuggers group after I finish the installation of ver. 2005

Hello

I have recently installed Visual Studio 2008 for a developer. They have 2 log in's a general user login and an admin login. The admin login is used to run Visual Studio 2008, this all works fine, but when the developed tried to add registry keys it throw up an error, i do not have a screen shot of the error, but found a workaround of running regedit as an admin and getting the developer to manually add registry keys which works fine.

I am guessing its another vista issue, as we dont have the issue when the developers do this in XP.

Does anyone no a solution for this?

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Visual Studio 2008 - Uac

As a "workaround" I'd suggest disabling UAC to see if it helps. But I haven't seen the affect that this has on Standard User accounts, so I'd proceed with caution.

Hi,

Built a new computer, installed Vista, Office and Visual Studio 2005 in that order.

I like to keep the OS on it's own partition seperate from programs and data when possible (partly habit from Win NT days, also allows easy snap shot of OS etc.)

However, Visual Studio would not let me because it said that some resources that were already installed required that Studio be installed on C. This is despite the fact that Office was installed on D. It recommended I un-install the previously installed program and install Studio first.

I'm Ok with starting over but anyone know if the offending program was indeed Office?

Studio gave a hint what the resources were..I think it was SQL server.

Thanks

At the time of installation i got message of compatibility issue for which I installed Visual Studio SP1 and Visual Studio SP1 for Vista. During installation of the former service pack I got the error message "Cannot Find one or more installed Components. Please reinstall the application." The window had the title "Microsoft Document Explorer". However at the last I still got the message installation successful. Same happens when I installed the later service pack. On executing the VC++ Editor, I got the same error message but the window title was VC++ 2005 Express edition. I think I have explained the issue properly. Please help me out.

Answer:Visual Studio 2005 Express Installation

Remove 2005 and install 2008. It is the newest and it works perfectly under Vista 64-bit.

Hiya

Now that we have released the first beta of Visual Studio 2005 (formerly referred to as "Whidbey") it's time to start brushing up on some of the new features and benefits that it includes. Some of these capabilities represent simply continuing with enhancements to this award-winning development environment, while others break new ground and add a whole new class of capabilities for enterprise developers.

In this episode, we talk with Jason Zander and Amnon Horowitz about the important improvements that have been added not only to Visual Studio 2005, but also to ASP.NET and the .NET Framework (v2.0) as well. Later, Rick LaPlante and Shanku Niyogi give us some hands-on examples of how these improvements can aid in the productivity of developing various styles of applications.

help please i cant install visual studio 2005 on vista. it says please insert the disk visual studio 2005 dvd but i know it works because ive had it running on XP

Answer:cant install visual studio 2005 in vista

Just cause it works on XP doesnt mean it will work on Vista. Vista is a totally new kernel and does NOT support all software that XP Does.

The only thing i can suggest is to try and run it in compatability mode. If that dont work then i dont think that VS 2005 can be install on Vista. Have to try for the newer version of the product that is compatable with Vista.

Okay after some checking it seems that it can work.

Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Express Editions: Visual C++ 2005 Express Edition (32 Bit) (Compatibility warnings, but works)

That is the exact version that has been known to work. As you see it does give warnings but works.

Hi All,

My group at work creates two sets of programs for every project. The first is a Visual C++ GUI for operator use. The second is a hardware control program running under vxWorks.

Our problem is that we have been charged with the task of using only one IDE for all of our work. This is not a problem with the Visual C++ work - we use Visual Studio 2005.

The problem is using the Visual Studio 2005 IDE to compile the vxWorks targeted programs. I have the compilation working fine. However, my boss is hung up on being able to double click on any compiler errors and having the IDE open the correct file at the line causing the error. This is the default behavior of Visual Studio when using the Microsoft compilers.

I have searched the internet for several days looking for information on how to do this, without any luck. Does anybody have any ideas?

Thanks for any help.

Mike

I had this program because when I was taking some courses in college, I was required to have this program on my computer to complete assignments online. However, I am no longer needing this program and I am having a very difficult time removing every bit of this software off.

I'm just curious why Visual Studio seems to be difficult to remove from the computer? Is there a reason behind that, or is it just one of those software's that are a pain to remove?

Any suggestions on how to get it to be removed completely without running into problems? I did start to remove some of it, however I've ran into a bump in the middle of removing it.

I don't know. I have tried to use programs that are supposed to remove programs completely off your PC like revo uninstaller, but I was very confused. I was hoping there was a way around not having to install something like revo uninstaller. I was hoping there was something kind of like what norton had, a uninstaller for their particular software and anything that is tied to it or whatever.

Any suggestions would be highly appreciated!
Thanks in advance.

Hello,
I just got the program Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 professional edition and am having some problems setting it up. It seems that WinVista does not like this product, even though it is made my Microsoft. When i open the setup and click on the Visual Studio installation icon, it starts setting up. After about 15 seconds, Vista crashes and gives me the Blue Screen of Death. I really don't understand why, I got this program from my teacher who, somehow, got a copy from Microsoft that she is allowed to redistribute to her students. Is there any way of fixing this, or just stopping Vista from shutting down for security issues, even though there are none?
I find this hilarious, as it is a Microsoft product. So is there any way of installing it? Thanks.
Oh, by the way, please dont tell me to switch to XP. I have an XP computer in my family, and I prefer Vista. This is the first problem I've had with Vista in almost 2 years. So yeah, please help me. Installing the software is required for the course that I'm taking, so it is very important that I get it installed.

I have also tried to download and install the 90 day trial, but that gave me the same result.
Thank You,

Friend of mine asked me if I happened to have a copy of Visual Studio 2008 Express as for he wanted to dig into his Microsoft "Build a Program NOW! Visual C# 2008 Express Edition" book that he lost the Disc that came with it as seen here: http://www.microsoft.com/mspress/companion/9780735625426/I dug through my software disc binders and all I can find is Visual Studio 2010 Express that I burned to disc back in 2012.While C# in 2008 format should work with 2010, I can see it being confusing for him when the book is a learn by example and there are differences between 2008 and 2010.Anyone know of a location online to get Visual Studio 2008 Express or just the C# 2008 Express?I told him that he may have to upgrade to a newer book with a newer Disc and not lose this disc hopefully, but told him that I'd look around for him and decided to post here in case anyone knows of a good download location for the ISO etc for the Free 2008 Express edition of Visual Studio.

Hi everyone. I'm looking to teach myself VB 2008 but can't seem to find it. All I can find is the express edition. The book I'm probably going to buy to learn VB was talking about how integrated VB 2008 and Studio 2008 are now, so I'm wondering if they're the same program? Another words, if I get Visual Studio 2008 (which I think I can get for free from my school), will Visual Basic 2008 be included in that? I'm very confused with this, especially because I can't find anywhere to buy VB 2008. Sorry for such the stupid question, but I would appreciate it if anyone could give me some insight on this. Thanks.

Answer:Visual Basic/Studio 2008

The Express Edition is a great start for people that want to learn VB. Eventually, you will want to purchase the full version but starting off with free stuff would be the best for you.

However, if your school as Visual Studio 2008 or 2010, then you would be set up with a few other programming languages. If that is what you do, I would suggest C# to learn since VB is older and really built for business programming. If you plan to program games or Microsoft's new OS, then you will need to learn C#.

I program in C# 2005 and 2008. My language that I was programming before was VB and I am glad that I switched.

Hope that answers your questions.

Currently, I have a textbox in which I propose to enter on numbers / digits.
I would like to restrict the user input to be only a range of numbers between 0-125.
The examples I found in this are working excellent in earlier versions of Visual Basic, but I am trying to use the same in Visual Basic 2008.
How do I go about this? Kindly guide me in this context.

Answer:Solved: Visual Studio 2008

Sorry for the delay in responding. If it's still relevant, here's my take on the issue.

I would suggest that you look at using Masked Text boxes rather than plain old text boxes. as they could quite easily restrict your entry to numbers (which is half the battle). After that I'd have a check whenever the text of that box is changed, using something like the following:
Code:

Dim TB1Text As String = ""
Private Sub TextBox1_TextChanged(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles TextBox1.TextChanged
Dim CheckValue As Integer
If Integer.TryParse(TextBox1.Text, CheckValue) Then
If CheckValue > 125 Then
TextBox1.Text = TB1Text
Else
TB1Text = TextBox1.Text
End If
Else
TextBox1.Text = TB1Text
End If
End Sub

That keeps the previous contents of the text box in a string, and changes it back to that string if the input is either non-numeric or too large. Im sure it's possible to make it more efficient, but it illustrates the point.

Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

I realise this doesn't help you, but I have Visual Studio 2008 installed under Win 7 x64 without any difficulty.

Have you checked the links in your third screenshot, in particular the one for Microsoft?

Can I ask where you obtained your software?

The log you provide says the install failed at the outset because cabinet files couldn't be unpacked, which suggests the DVD is faulty.

Hey,

I am using Visual Studio 2008 with Vista trying to create a project using the OGRE SDK. I can still create C++ projects (as far as I can tell anyways), but when I try to create an OGRE SDK project, it gives me a "creating project 'project1'... project creation failed" error. I've asked the people at OGRE, and no one seems to be able to figure out what it is, and i've seen some other people have had the same issues, occasionally with other types of projects. Any ideas on what could be causing this?

Microsoft has decided to continue indefinitely a free development tool offer it launched last year to better attract hobbyists and students to Microsoft's software.

The company on Wednesday said Visual Studio 2005 Express will be free permanently. When it was released for the first time, last November, Microsoft had said it would be free for a year.

Microsoft on Wednesday also added more features to its free database, SQL Server 2005 Express.

Visual Studio 2005 Express comes in different editions, including those for Visual Basic, C#, J#, C++ and a Web development version that uses JavaScript.

However, can I just install the x64 versions of them or do I need both x64 and x86? I am proud to announce that today, November 7th 2005, we officially released the downloadable versions of Visual Studio 2005 Express on MSDN and they are free to download for one year!

Download Visual Studio Express

You can download Visual Studio Express from the links below:

Visual Web Developer 2005 Express
Visual Basic 2005 Express
Visual C# 2005 Express

Visual Studio Express is free for one year

Until November 7, 2006, we are promotionally discounting the downloadable versions of Express to free. This doesn’t mean that the product turns off after a year, but rather that as long as you download the product before November 7, 2006, you can get it for free and you can use it forever.

The other big news announced at the Visual Studio launch is the availability of the Visual Studio Express DIY Kit, which is a set of benefits you get for registering Express and includes:

Hello All! Hope everything is well.

My OS is Windows 7 Home Premium 32-Bit

I installed Visual Studio 2005 Standard edition. While in the installation process, a Program Compatibility Assistant popped up. I clicked the "Run Program" button. The installation was successful.

Then, I will install the Visual Studio 2005 service pack 1 for Windows vista update. But unfortunately, a message popped up saying :

[Window Title]
Windows Installer
[Main Instruction]
The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the Windows Installer service because the program to be upgraded may be missing, or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the program. Verify that the program to be upgraded exists on your computer and that you have the correct upgrade patch.
[OK]

These are the things I already did but no luck at all:
1. executing the SP1 by right click and click the "Run As Administrator".
2. I have Visual Studio 2005 Standard Edition installed in Program Files and tried installing outside Program Files.

Could someone help me?
Thanks in advance.

Answer:Compatibility Issues with Visual Studio 2005 Standard Edition

You need to install SP1 for Visual Studio 2005 first: Download details: Visual Studio? 2005 Team Suite SP1. Then you should be able to install Download details: VS2005 SP1 Update for Vista, which is an update to Visual Studio 2005 SP1 that allows it to work properly with Windows Vista.

Ensure you run both as administrator and let us know if this allows you to update or not.

This is probably a stupid question, but can someone give me the download link for Visual Studio 2008?

I know I've installed it before, but I can't seem to remember where I downloaded it. This link is the closest one I could find, but it only provides a PowerPoint file.

Hi there, I seem to be having issues with Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Pro, C# Express and VS2008 Express and I desperatly need it installed for school ! Lets face it, Notepad++ with C# syntax highlighting is nothing compared to VS

Ok, So I was able to DownLoad the file from DreamSpark(Student Thing) as an ISO(Ok no big deal, copied to a CD and installed)

Once I had the software installed I tried to create a project (For an assignment) and it gave me the error
"Registry access is not allowed"

I have tried repeatedly tried googling the issue and other stuff but well no joy.

Additional Information;
Googled Repeatedly
Started as Admin
Made .bat and .cmd files as requested in tutorials

Some System Information;
Operating System:
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit
Motherboard
Dell Inc. 0T568R
CPU
Intel Core i5 650

If you require anymore information please reply as I desperatly need this problem solved but have not been able to find a solution.

If you could also take the time to email me at
[email protected] as I may forget to check back, it would be much appreciated.

Regards,

Hi there

We (i.e. me and my colleagues at work) have come across a very odd problem with the latest MFC feature pack and the latest Microsoft IDE, and wondered if anyone else had seen this and even could suggest a work around.

We had a redraw problem with OnPaint and OnDraw of our document class. the problem was that if any part of the view was invalidated, it would cause the whole view panel to be redrawn - problem is our application can have huge documents and take a few seconds to redraw, and this was happening even if the user popped an about box or a file save box over the view, which would then hang for several seconds doing a redraw of the view with the same image that was already there.

After spending far too long investigating this phenomenon, we tried to reproduce this with an app-wizard generated MDI project. None of our existing code in there, just a loop in OnDraw that dropped ellipses over one another, enough to tie up the draw process for a second or so and that would be visible to the naked eye. All we had to do was do a 'file->open' to pop the standard file dialog and watch the redraw around the outside of its box. And it turned up.

This never used to happen with earlier versions of MFC - if you popped a dialog over your view, it never needed to invalidate the whole view and cause a re-draw. It just drew the dialog box.

Some deeper investigation showed that bypassing the PaintDC/MFC overhead in the OnPaint handler and using ::BeginPaint(...)... Read more

Hi,

I have a blocking problem with Visual Studio 2008.

I have a group of programs developed on my old computer, running Visual Studio 6 on XP. Now I have installed the latest and greatest Visual Studio 2008 on my new computer running Vista.

The install was OK and after some tweaking I can compile and link the programs, they are win32 console mode programs.

But when I try to run a program I get an error message saying that a DLL could not be found. In debug mode the DLL is msvcr90d.dll and in release mode it is msvcr90.dll. The suggested solution is to reinstall which I have tried w/o success.

Does anybody have a suggestion how to solve this problem?

/Erik

Answer:Visual Studio 2008 - missing msvcr90.dll
