Leaked AMD roadmap suggests all 2016 APUs will be 14nm

Question: Leaked AMD roadmap suggests all 2016 APUs will be 14nm

AMD's roadmap for the next two years has leaked, and it's filled with information about what the company is planning for their desktop and mobile CPU and APU lines. While 2015 will see a mix of 32, 28 and 20nm chips,...

Preferred Solution: Leaked AMD roadmap suggests all 2016 APUs will be 14nm

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Leaked AMD roadmap suggests all 2016 APUs will be 14nm

If it beats the Bulldozer family by a solid 5-10% in video games plus media encoding with reasonable prices, I am going to use it for all my builds.

AMD?s official GPU Roadmap for 2016-2018 leaked

AMD 2016-2018 GPU roadmap leaked

AMD's GPU roadmap for 2016-2018 has been revealed, showing that AMD plans on moving to HBM2 memory in 2017 and to a future NextGen memory standard in 2018.

Sadly this new roadmap does not give us any more information on AMD's upcoming Polaris architecture, but it does confirm that AMD will not be using HBM 2 memory and will be made with two new GPU core designs, which will each be made into several different SKUs that AMD can sell.

Initially AMD stated that they expected a 2x increase in performance per watt when moving past the 28nm Fiji architecture used in the R9 Fury X when that GPU was announced almost a year ago. Now AMD estimates that Polaris will have a 2.5x performance per watt advantage, showing that their Polaris GPUs are performing better than was initially expected on the 14nm FinFET manufacturing process.

AMD's Polaris Architecture is not listed as supporting HBM2 memory, with AMD's 2017 Vega Architecture being the first GPU listed with HBM2 support, meaning that AMD Polaris GPUs may be sticking with GDDR5 memory for Polaris, though GDDR5X remains a possibility.

Softpedia said:

Next month, Microsoft should make the beta version of Windows 8 available for public download, following the release of a Developer Preview in September last year.

In this regard, some new details on the Windows 8 Beta roadmap have emerged, suggesting that the build might be ready for preview as soon as January 30.

At the moment, Windows 8 is still in a pre-Beta state, and should remain the same until January 21, WinUnleaked reports.

Starting with January 23, it will enter the Beta Escrow period, and testers will have until January 28 to vote for the Beta final build.

After Windows 8 Beta is signed off, Microsoft is expected to display it during an internal preview.

The news site also notes that the currently targeted build number for Windows 8 Beta is 8200.winmain_win8b1.

Previously, Microsoft confirmed that it was targeting the second half of February as the release timeframe for the beta flavor of Windows 8.

Some suggested that there might be a connection between Windows 8 Beta?s release date and the Mobile World Congress that will kick off in Barcelona in late February.

Since Windows 8 will target tablet PCs, chances are that we?ll see new such devices being showcased at the event.

Microsoft already demoed Windows 8 on a Samsung tablet PC, and it should be only a matter of time before more such devices are being unveiled.

Source: Firefox Roadmap for 2016/2017 - gHacks Tech News

Mozilla updated the official Firefox roadmap entry on the organization's Wiki website recently, highlighting major plans for the browser in 2016/2017.

The information highlight some of the features that Mozilla has in store for the next four stable versions of the Firefox browser (Firefox 48 to 51).

The organization lists three main areas of improvement: foundation, customization and context graph.

Foundation refers to improving the browser's responsiveness, reliability and polish. Customization primarily to extending the Web Extension API, and Context Graph to a new recommendation engine Mozilla plans to deliver.

It needs to be noted that the roadmap does not highlight all new features or improvements of the next four or so Firefox releases. Instead, it highlights Mozilla's focus and strategy for those next releases of the web browser.

Firefox Roadmap for 2016/2017
Features that were delayed several times, multi-process Firefox and add-on signing, will find their way into the stable version of Firefox.

Discovery and recommendations seem to be a strong focus going forward.

I had been doing a search to compare dedicated GPU cards to APU's when it comes to graphics, neither 3DMark or Passmark give concrete scores to compare the devices, so I was wondering if some one knows a good source of data.

I'd be interested too. Everyone says the AMD APUs kick some butt, but I've only heard a passing reference to the GPU par.

Hello Techspot folks,

I have, what might be a silly question, for you. As the title suggests, I want to know what exactly is the interaction between an APU and a dedicated graphic card on the same motherboard.

You see, I've heard of AMD's APUs, but I never gave it much thought since I knew the integrated graphics were discrete-level. But now I'm building a new rig, and one great thing I actually never knew about the APUs, was their affordable price. I'm tempted to get an A8 quad--nothing too crazy--, and use it with a GTX 560 ti I just bought, on the same motherboard.

I know the APUs have integrated graphics, so I'm wondering, how do these two interact (by two I mean the integrated vs the dedicated)? Is it like Nvidia's Optimus technology? Or systems with APUs only allow its integrated graphics only?

Answer:How do APUs handle the presence of a dedicated GPU?

Answer:Avast IS 2016 / Panda IS 2016 / Bitdefender IS 2016

What kind of system do you have?
Panda and Avast are the lightest while Bitdefender can be heavy.

All 3 offer excellent protection (Avast requires tweaking; Bitdefender and Panda works out of the box), while Bitdefender is mainly known for its detection rate (signatures).

Try the 3 of them (trial versions, not the 6 months) and see which one you prefer.

Hello

I'm considering to implement a VM for malware testing and I was thinking of a roadmap to face a serious study.
Indeed, once you have finished the analysis of a sample, you have an amount of information that need a well structured order.

Important is the technical analysis of the code, but structuring the obtained information is a great goal.
So let?s consider what are the most important questions to be answered.

- How many variants of the same malcode?

- What is the used algorithm to pack the core, if packed ?

- Could this tell us anything about how's skilled the malcoder behind it ?

- Where does this connect out to ?

- How sophisticated this malware is ?
Answering to these question will tell us: what are the involved servers, involved people and what kind of criminal activity is.

Difficult challenge? Maybe.

Answer:...a malware analysis roadmap.

Are you talking about a known malware sampke or an unknown sample that you want to analyze?

I know there are some threads talking about this, and I have used the registry workaround to set charge thresholds for my x1 carbon gen3. My question is, will we always have to use regedit to achieve this, or will Lenovo release a compatible Power Manager tool for new Thinkpads using Windows 8.1? Can we get an answer from a Lenovo insider? One of the reasons for me to use thinkpads vs others is the availability to take care of my battery, if Lenovo is going to remove this great feature I think we should know this. If not, a tool to manage this is mandatory. Thank you!

As some of you already noticed, we have removed Online Armor ++ from the www.emsisoft.com website.

This is our current roadmap for Online Armor++:

Our long term goal is to merge our product development departments of Online Armor and Anti-Malware to create a new common code base for both. That's required for best coordination of the products.

Emsisoft offers a bundle of Anti-Malware and Online Armor Premium which is now called "Emsisoft Internet Security Pack". It's the best choice for overall protection as it combines the advanced antivirus/antimalware scanning features of Anti-Malware with the awarded firewall and HIPS features of Online Amor.

To avoid redundant development of antivirus components, we have decided to not continue development of Online Armor++. That means we'll not implement the new optimized Emsisoft Anti-Malware 6.0 scan engine and not extend the antivirus scanner capabilities in Online Armor++.

Online Armor++ is still available on the www.online-armor.com website for a while, but we recommend all users to choose the Internet Security Pack over Online Armor++ because it's expected that the product lifecycle ends on the long run.

Emsisoft offers all Online Armor ++ customers to switch their license to the Internet Security Pack for free! Please contact our customer support if you want to do so.Click to expand...

I am looking for the best product to use for creating a product roadmap that will will display as a timeline so I can track changes over time.

To be more specific, I am tracking the changes across several models of computer systems. I need to break each model down into its parts (ie CPU, video card, RAM, etc...) and then display the changes of those parts (BIOS updates, chipset changes, etc...) over time on a gantt type chart. I currently do this on an excel spreadsheet but it is a very manual process. I am looking for a more automated way to handle it.

Hey guys - trying to get my ducks in a row for replacing a Cisco 5510 and a Barracuda Link Balancer with a virtual pfSense appliance. This is partially due to eliminating support contract costs (nearly $3k annually between both appliance) and partially to utilize the redundancy and fault tolerance that our virtual environment can provide. I'm also implementing a colo site for replication/DR this year so doing a tunnel from site to site would make it a lot easier with like for like virtual appliance firewalls.

Now....for the point that I need help/suggestions on. The VPN aspect. We are currently doing Cisco VPN with Radius auth on the back end, this is seamless to setup from an end user perspective as they just hit a URL, download/install the ANyConnect client, and log in with their credentials. Is there a comparable alternative in pfSense? I'm leaning toward IPsec but it still doesn't seem as seamless as what we currently have in the ASA.

Update: I forgot to mention this is about 50-60 Macs and 20-30 PC's.

Answer:Advice with pfSense roadmap (ASA replacement)

IPsec is included with all versions of Windows since at least XP, so no download is necessary. You may want an illustrated help guide for Users setting up the IPsec connection. If computers are domain connected, you should be able to push out a script creating the interface for them.

Initially, we reported that the RTM build was going to be officially signed off and announced on July 13th. At the time, Windows 7 was proceeding on schedule and several internal sources in Microsoft both close to GeekSmack and other sites have told us that the RTM was in fact coming on July 13th. However, it seems like due to several show stopper bugs, one that we think has to do with activation, the RTM build has been delayed from the initial date.
Today was pretty much the deadline that Microsoft internally set to choose and decide on an RTM build, but from what we?re now hearing none of the builds thus far have been deemed good enough, and so they?re continuing to compile RTM candidate builds. Backing this, in the recent Microsoft press release regarding the executive re-shuffle, they stated this: ?The transition between Reller and Veghte is timed to take place in late July when Windows 7 reaches the release to manufacturing (RTM) milestone?.
Again, when we initially reported on the matter, internal sources and other forms of evidence led us to believe that the RTM was coming, and I can safely say that at the time it was confirmed and it was going to happen, but with these new show-stopper bugs present Microsoft had to make a change to the roadmap to accommodate the time it will take to iron them out.

Hi there,I've got T60p, recently fan has started to produce some loud noises. I took a look inside, carefully cleaned it up, but no change,I'm pretty sure the fun is just failing. The laptop is in warranty, so no problem except I use it quite extensively and prefer the repair to be as quick as possible. I got in touch with an Authorized IBM Service Provider which was willing to replace fan in an hour time. That would mean no mailing  hassle, no weeks long waiting, etc., just great!But... But the Service Provider claims it's not possible anymore to order the 41W6407 (because it's obsolete) and instead they are to order an alternative, compatible one (part number 41V9932).I am aware that these numbers are important and tiny differences between parts could result in serious hardware problems. Especially when it comes to cooling systems... And that is why I do prefer to have the one listed in the manual.I called IBM Technical Support, the agent was not able to answer the question straight, but promised to discuss it with the engineers and get back to me later. They called me back the same day and the official answer is 'though both parts are very similar they're not compatible'.Would you believe the SP in such a situation? Okay. I'm running on linksys wifi, it's my neighbors. This happens A LOT.
I get that stupid "internet explorer cannot display the webpage" message. This happens everyday, and a few hours later, I'll try again and it will actually connect me to the internet. So no more stupid message. Today however, it's been doing this ALL day.

Now for the technical information-
I click on IE, get that message, go to properties and see this weird url- res://ieframe.dll/dnserror.htm#http:// and the dumb microsoft homepage url after that.

I don't know what's up with this, but like it said, it used to only be like this for a few hours and then it would fix itself I guess. Idontknow.

If I try to type into the address bar something like google.com, it will attempt to load the page, then change the url ITSELF to just "http:///" and then the message will say the address is not valid. If I go to properties, it will say res://iframe.dll/syntax.htm#http:///

If I ping google.com, it says that the ping request cannot find google.com

If I run ipconfig/all, it says

Hey, I've been looking at the M90z series to be used at our new IT service desk ("user helpdesk"), a task the current generation should be sufficient for. I like the design, the ability to use an extended arm to further adjust the monitor and both its energy, space and sound footprint. Still, I'm a bit hesitant to basically buy "yesterday's technology". Is there an updated model on the roadmap (maybe to be officially presented on the upcoming Lenovo Accelerate) to be released during the nex month or two? I'd especially like to see a model based on Intel Series 6 (probably Q67) chipsets, using the second generation socket 1155 Core i3/5/7 CPU and maybe featuring native USB 3.0 and eSATA support. Also, it would be really nice, if the display could finaly internally be attached by DVI/DisplayPort instead of VGA. Anybody here have any info on that matter?

Hi. Been loving the surface 3. However sometimes the device does not trigger an event with windows even though visually the touchscreen is clearly giving an indication there has been event triggered! This can be a real nuisance particularly in regards to the show all programs side bar introduced in windows 10. Sometimes it simply does not respond to any gestures at all. I almost feel I'm digressing there as that is another problem in itself. To cut a long story short sometimes the surface 3 is not recognising simple touch commands even though it is registering them. Why?

Answer:Sometimes the surface 3 does not respond to touch even though the screen suggests it does. Why?

I have the same thing on my Surface 3 with Windows 10. Touching a tile will make it animate/ fade but the program doesn't open. I've noticed similar behaviour in the keyboard word picker when typing too, and touching links in Edge. It's a bit annoying, but with everything else behaving ok I've tended to shrug it off as one of those things that'll eventually get fixed, most likely by a driver update at some point.

Hi, HP Support Assistant has suggested three updates for my system. When trying to download them using the Assistant, all installations failed (a phenomenon that was described by some other posters in this forum). So I looked for each of the three updates directly in the HP site, after finding my computer and operating system there (HP notebook 15-ay011nr, windows 10 64-bit).I could find two of the updates, but not the third, which is called:  "Intel WLAN software for Micorsoft Windows", with Softpaq number SP76133, version 18.40.0.9Pp2 if it's relevant. When I looked for this softpaq number in the site, I found it, but saw that it is only for windows 7 and 8. Why does the HP support assistant suggest this as an update for my win 10 system?Am I supposed to download it?If not, is there a way to stop the support assistant from thinking that I should install it? Thanks!  Eitan

Hi - hope this is correct. Think I followed the rules although i'm a bit rubbish with computers. Spyware doctor has informed me I have infections and i'm hopeful to not have to upgrade to the registered version becasue i'm tight! but i guess it's probably inevitable. anyway, here goes:

Spyware doctor says:
Worm.Alcra.F
Adware.ILookup_Begin2Search
Trojan.Crypt.E
Trojan.Generic
Backdoor.IRCBot.BMD
Adware.Component.ILookup
Adware.BHO.GEN

which looks bad even to me so i may just burn the PC!

I have a VOSTRO 1510 laptop from dell that I rarely use. I'm about to load some recording software and start using the laptop more often. Although the laptop seems to function perfectly, every time I shut down, right before the "Windows is shutting down" blue screen appears, an error message flashes and disappears before I can read it. Dell ran a diagnostic which showed nothing out of the ordinary. Nonetheless, Dell Support tells me that although we don't know what the error message is saying, something is probably wrong with the operating system and I should reinstall the XP SP3 operating system. I have never done this before and I'd like a second opinion. Thank you.

Hi,

A friend is worried about her laptop, and access to hotmail and security in general.

She opened up her hotmail login page and was faced with a page telling her that her account had been compromised and she should enter a code to prevent her account being shut down. She entered the code and immediately received a phone call which was an automated voice telling her to enter her e-mail address and password. At this point she became suspicious and ended the call.

She called me over and I had a look at the system unusually for a standalone laptop it was running Sophos endpoint security. It had 4 things in quarantine 3 of which looked like infections. I cleansed the infections (See log later), and as the system had Malwarebytes installed as well I downloaded and ran rkill (See log later), updated Malwarebytes and did a full scan. Malwarebytes came up with a clean, but I noticed that the Windows firewall was disabled. I enabled the firewall and restarted the system. The firewall was still up. things seemed to be working OK but she was telling me that her Hotmail page looked different. To be fair when I looked at it, it did look different to what I normally see, so I brought over a netbook and plugged it into her network and went to the same page. It appeared different on the netbook, so I can only assume that Hotmail has had a recent makeover.
Looking at the rkill log I noticed that the hosts file had some notable URLs in it some looking particularly inappropriate... Read more

In October I purchased a hi Spec custom built Lenovo W530 value 3200 GBP

It was DOA  (Dead on Arrival) - 1st issue was dead speakers at first... Then after 2 months of being fobbed off and moved around, I eventually was asked to return the faulty device to the IBM service centre in Dublin, Ireland.  When the service centre replaced the speakers they discovered the mother + CPU board were also dead.  So 3 months later it eventually got classified as a DOA laptop.. Beware their T&C's stated a DOA needs to be reported within 15 days. It took 2 months alone to get the device accepted by an authorized service centre.

Now its 6 months later and I've being mucked around between UK, then India, then Ireland, then Slovakia (where complaints mangers exist) but can't be contacted and then just last week XXX in Germany.

I dread to think what this has cost Lenovo as these layers of inefficiencies must be costing them millions in lost revenue not to mention lost customers.

I have being a loyal Lenovo supporter for 20 years but on this occasion.. I have being so badly missed about that I really need the top management at Lenovo to actually see all the evidence of recklessness and carelessness that I have accumulated.

I am without a replacement laptop now. The experience with XXX has being the worst. I have being dealing with a Katharina who must be the most unhelpful individual I have even encountered in my... Read more

Greetings,

Today (OCT 31) the windows Action Center came up with a message about Win32/Small.CA being on my computer and having caused a problem on the 29th. The original wording is lost due to automatic archiving but ... here is what is left and the facts as known:

- Control Panel\System and Security\Action Center\Archived Messages has only message:
"Remove the Win32/Small.CA virus" Date: 29/10/2012 13:06 Status: Automatically archived

- the solution was to go to this site: http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-gb/default.aspx

- the microsoft security scanner (from the site above) didn't pick up anything
- Sophos Endpoint Security and Control version 10.0 (checked for updates today) did not detect anything
- Windows Defender didn't detect anything on Quick scan

- I am running 64 bit Windows 7 version 6.1.7601 Service Pack 1 Build 7601

If I have the virus I would like to remove it, if I don't I would like the peace of mind of knowing that I don't.

The computer system crashes repeatedly with no known cause. Upon reboot, the computer sends the error report and then suggests to "Consider BIOs upgrade" http://wer.microsoft.com/responses/....2.0?SGD=7e44ec2b-1754-4790-b1cd-e8a9719ecb8b
Other problems include repeated application hangs of IE8 and the occasional abrupt crashing of assorted system services as well as other background program services e.g AVG, Spotify. These can only be returned to normal upon reboot as attempting to run the programs again results in nothing, except the task manager showing a small increase in CPU and i waited 30 minutes to make sure it just wasn't decreased response time.

But having gone to the ECS motherboard website and updated the BIOs with a new version, this did not solve the problem. I then decided to flash the entire HDD in the event of a tricky virus or corruption and reinstall Windows XP (32 bit) which didnt solve the problem. I then brought it into a PC repair shop in which they repeated the reinstall etc. and replaced a fan. This didnt solve the problem and returning the computer two times afterwards they couldn't find what was wrong with it. So i'm at the end of my tether lol i'm planning on starting a whole new build but i want to see if i can save the old one first. Any help would be veeery much apreciated =D.

Examples of the entries are in the attachment. The "preapproved" within the registry entries concerns me in case they relate to Windows 10, which at this time I do not wish to install, but may wish to later. If I removed the entries now, would I lose the free upgrade.

Are the entries relating to what I think? Remove or not? Opinions please!

Answer:Antivirus suggests unnecessary registry keys for deletion

Those "PreApproved" keys have to do with ActiveX in Internet Explorer:

I know nothing about this stuff so I've been learning as I try to troubleshoot this issue. This is my build in case it matters:

CPU: AMD Athlon II X4 (645)
Mainboard: MSI 870-G45
RAM: 4x2 GB DDR3
GPU: AMD Radeon HD 6900
HDD: Seagate 2 TB
PSU: Corsair GS 700W

My first graphics card was the GeForce 240 and I've seen others report similar problems to mine (computer freezes up, loops sound, requires hard boot) but I have since upgraded to the GPU in my build above. When I go to event log it USED TO say:

"The driver \Driver\ATITool failed to load for the device Root\*ATITOOLDEVICE\0000."

And this was time stamped at the moment of the crash. Then I went into device manager and uninstalled the ATITool driver, which stopped this error message but didn't stop the freezing.

I only assume that this is driver-related because I have done every kind of hardware check and test and others in the forums with similar problems have been told this might be their drivers. It does seem software related but again I know nothing about any of this. Anyone out there know what's going on? I can provide any other necessary information.

Thanks for reading!

Answer:Freezing randomly at all times, Event Viewer suggests driver issue...

Please follow the http://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-d...tructions.html as they will provide application and system logs of any errors occurring on your system. They are not just for blue screen crashes, though that is their primary purpose. There are other useful data sets in the .zip that can help with crashes/freezing like what you are experiencing.

I understand its Free vs Paid product comparision but anyway

Answer:F-Secure Internet Security 2016 vs Panda Free Antivirus 2016

If a security soft ranks amongst the top performing AVs, it won't matter much if it does function correctly or causes problems on your specific system.

From lab test results F-Secure has an edge over Panda during testing the past few years in terms of detection (although higher false positives).

From users, it seems more prefer Panda - which is one of Neil Rubenking's (PCMag) favs (that don't mean much - but that is just my opinion).

I'd say, in terms of overall protection, Panda has a slight edge; it might protect your system in a few instances that F-Secure will not.

Hi there!

Well, after reseting the PC to factory settings and reinstalled my drivers, I'm encountering a nasty problem... I?m just unable to install office 2016 in Windows 10, just when it's about to finish, stops, reverts all and says there was an error installing the suite...

I could install this in build 1511, no problems, but here this happens... I tried compatibility modes, using the office cleaning tool, but no avail, I even have all the VC runtimes installed... I'm tryinto install 64 bit version.

Please guys, any advice on this? I really need office for doing my job!

Thanks in advance

According to all sources that I could find on-line, it appears that rules are part of pst file.

However, this does not happening in my case.

I use outlook 2016 (part of MS office 2016) and have several accounts linked with this ? From my ISP (POP), Hotmail, yahoo, Gmail. I have rules only for account from my ISP.

Recently I deleted my Hotmail account, removed it from my outlook, deleted associated ost file. Then I had second thought and re-activated this hotmal account the following day. Added this to my outlook. To my surprise all rules vanished. Not a single rule remained. I did NOT have any rules setup for Hotmail account. Even column details for message folders (part of setting) got changed.

I decided to check further. Copied my pst files to another computer which had same version of outlook installed and has exactly the same setup.

Now I added some rules on my 1st computer. Checked the 2nd computer. The same rule appeared there. That means pst file does not contain rules.

So, Where are they?

Hope someone can help me. I am lost!!
Thanks

Any opinions are welcome.. Thanks in advance

Answer:Panda 2016 Free vs Kaspersky Antivirus 2016

without doubt, i'd choose kaspersky antivirus

I was wondering if any one had advice on which laptop offered the best overall performance so someone who is a casual gamer but also wants to use the laptop for practical things like Word/Excel, streaming movies, and listening to music. I've a budget of £1000.
Narrowed it down to the new Dell Inspiron 15 7000 Gaming laptop (2016 model) and the hp HP 15-ax003na Gaming laptop (2016 model).
Not a serious pro gamer but I do enjoy playing Total War games etc. on my laptop with OK graphics.
I can't seem to find any information on the new Dell as it always refers to the 2015 model.
Was wondering if anyone had some info like general handling, graphics, screen brightness, and keyboard/mouse quality.
Would appreciate it a lot as I don't know much about this.
Cheers.

Visio files are received as attachments in Outlook 2016. Visio Viewer 2016 and IE11 are also installed on Windows 10 (1607).
Previewing the Visio file (VSD in this case) is successful. However, when you try to open the Visio file, IE11 attempts to open it (as expected) but only displays a blank page.
Does anyone know if there is a fix for this issue?   Other articles suggest that Visio Viewer 2016 does not support IE11.

First, my specs:

Mobo: Giga-byte 8iexp.
CPU: P4 2.4 ghz, socket 478.
2gb DDR RAM 2700
Antec case & PS
Video: ALBATRON GeForce 4 TI4200P (NVIDIA GeForce4 TI4200 GPU), 128MB DDR, DVI+VGA TV-Out.

Built it about 7 years ago. It was my first and only build. Since then I haven't keep up with computer hardware, so bear with me here.

The thing has worked great over the years. But last week out of nowhere it stopped booting. When I try and power on it the monitor says there is no signal coming in and I get one long beep immediately followed by two short beeps. I believe my bios is Award, which from google searches would indicate my video card is causing the problem. I can hear it reading the hard drive as it usually does, but after that it's just silence other than the fans & processor running.

In case it may be pertinent, I made a couple of "upgrades" recently (January). I installed a new heatsink & fan on the CPU to address occasional heat issues. Since I did that I had no indication of any heat issues (ie no symptoms of overheating, and according to motherboard monitor the inside temp was fine when I checked it) so my $.02 is that this current problem is unrelated. I also installed more memory at that time, but again I had no issues with the memory since then so I believe it to be unrelated too.

I've removed and re-seated the video card but no dice. This is kind of out of my realm of knowledge now b/c I don't know how to troubleshoo... Read more

Good morning/afternoon/evening gentleman, wherever you are around the globe.

Today, after startup, Windows suggested to me, that I should export my encryption case to some external storage, just in case some bad things happen.

I was surprised, as I haven't enabled any encryption on my laptop.
Or maybe I was wrong, thinking that encryption = BitLocker.

Quick search in Control Panel reveals there is also a setting in User Accounts section named "Manage file encryption certificates".

I haven't enabled encryption in any folder/file using it's Properties window.

So why this "export your keys" option? I don't remember that from Windows 7.

I would be great if someone explained that to me, as I've never used encryption before (since I don't need it).
Also, is cloud storage like SkyDrive/DropBox an appropriate place to store that files?

"Patch Tuesday" broke our install of Outlook 365. It was working fine on Monday and on Tuesday it was hanging on "Processing." So I restored back to the last restore point before the update and it worked great after that. Yesterday it re-installed the updates, and again Outlook didn't load. Restoring again today "fixed" it. Now it wants to update again, so I will disable updates until the problem is fixed. I don't know which particular "patch" is causing the problem; there were about 22 of them that installed.

I know that MajorGeeks usually releases some software a day or 2 ahead of the official release date like what happened with FF 6, it was released 2 days easlier than Mozilla's release date

Is this going to happen to FF 7? Will we get it sooner?

Answer:Will we have the Official FF 7 leaked?

Why wait for 7, go for the nightly. I'm at version 9.

Answer:Office 12 Leaked?!?

My, that looks nice! The only thing I don't like about the GUI, are the 'Minimize', 'Maximize/Restore' and 'Close' buttons. They need to be a little smaller, and a little more neatly placed.

I hope Microsoft pull their act together with Vista, and create a GUI that actually looks the part down to the finest point, and that actually works bug-free.

Question: G80 specs leaked

theinquirer.net has an article on the specs of the upcoming G80 (can you say 8800GTX and 8800GT...? I knew you could).

From what they say they found on Hardspell:

Quote:

The G80 includes a Unified Shader Architecture, FP16 support, 700 million transistors and a new AA mode. It will run up to 1.5GHz, have the weird 384 bit memory interface we told you about, and sport an oddball 768MB of DDR4 at very high speeds.

There are two launch SKUs, an 8800GTX with the full memory interface and water cooling, and an 8800GT that has a 320 but memory interface. The GTX will retail for $649 and the GT in the high $400s. This looks like a really cool card, nice catch guys.

http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=34495

Sounds like fun.

Answer:G80 specs leaked

Yeah I saw that too, I thought the G80 wasn't going to be a unified shader architecture but from that it says it is.

TechConnect Magazine - GeForce 185.63 leaked
Vista32 and Win7 32 (maybe)

Quote:
After quite a long run in the 180s, we're now back in the 185s, where drivers are leaked and ambient occlusion roams free. Leaked, but only for Windows Vista 32bit (works with Windows 7 32bit too, apparently), the GeForce 185.63, which is to be considered beta, is dated March 27 (making it the newest driver yet), is bundled with the PhysX 9.09.0203 system software and has support for GeForce G92-based 8800, 9 and 200 series cards, including the almost released GeForce GTX 275.

The 185.63 includes an ambient occlusion tab in the control panel like the GeForce 185.20, but unlike its predecessor, the options available are just Off and On, no Low, Medium, High. To try out the GeForce 185.63 (beta) check out good ol' 2Many.

I'm starting to see lots of blogs, social media etc all saying W8 has been leaked, even quite a few torrent sites linking to this leaked W8 ISO..
Question is though how much truth is there actually in these so called leaks. I mean I can remeber right ack to XP and ever since peoplesay that each new OS has been leaked. Just wonder how much truth is in it all

Answer:Windows 8 Leaked ??

Perhaps it's just the Beta that was officially released by MS some months ago.

Or more likely it's been let slip by Microsoft hoping somebody, somewhere, will like it and keep it

What's that expression 'You couldn't even give it away'

Is the registry hacked required if you have the files already?

Answer:win 8.1.1 leaked update

No, just install them in order, the big one KB2919355 takes some time to install and you have to reboot between each install except the first, took me 20 to 40 minutes on the three machines I've installed this on so far. Modern apps in the taskbar I think is the best feature and it seems like this update really cuts down on memory usage.

A recent cumulative update for Exchange 2016 was intended to add support for Windows Server 2016. But, after numerous reported issues, Microsoft has acknowledged a problem exists.

According to the release notes?

If you attempt to run Microsoft Exchange 2016 CU3 on Windows Server 2016, you will experience errors in the IIS host process W3WP.exe. There is no workaround at this time. You should postpone deployment of Exchange 2016 CU3 on Windows Server 2016 until a supported fix is available.

Once again, Microsoft?s testing of its own patches seems to have taken a backseat to accelerated release deadlines.

Hi!

I downloaded leaked Microsoft Paint app replacement for old long time living MS Paint.
I installed it and tried, worked perfectly. So, I was going to sleep and next day I wanted to try it again and problem - app disappeared from Windows.
So, I tried to reinstall it - and now problem - reports error:
Ask developer for new app package, this package is in conflict with any other which is installed or depends on missing packages or other architecture (0x80073CF3)
This translating is maybe not full correct, but it looks like Paint left pieces in Windows...
So, here's Q:
How to reinstall Paint app and avoid to disappear it?
Thank you for help.

Some Windows 8 screenshots were leaked earlier this week - http://www.htlounge.net/art/14918/l...One of the features being talked about is a near-instant restoration of "Windows 8 vanilla" for after major issues occur. Supposedly it restores Windows 8 to a factory default within 2 minutes flat, as opposed to the arduous reinstallation process that usually involves hours of install time when something corrupts the OS.Backup and restoration seems to be a pretty big feature set in what's being revealed so far. Think this'll get people to switch up from Windows 7 when the time comes?

Answer:Windows 8 Leaked Screenies

Users are probably going to be slow to switch up, since the time difference between Vista and 7 was so short a lot of the early adopters feel they got burned. The "instant-restore" feature is definitely appealing though.

My new Brother DCP340CW printer has recently leaked cyan ink all over my girlfriends wooden unit. she threw a flid fit and went mental. im concerned as to why it leaked in the first place.as far as i can see everything looks okay inside the individual ink slots.does anyone know why it would do this and how to fix it?also any good ideas of how to get ink stains out of wood?cheers.

Answer:Printer ink leaked, any ideas why?

Dont know anything about your printer but to try to get rid of the ink from the wood unit go to the Chemist and ask for Oxalic Acid crystal , ( you will probably be required to sign the poison register) disolve in small amount of water then point onto the stain. You will possibly need to do this several times but it should get rid of the stains. Fingers crossed, I have used it many times in my work. Good luck. I have had success rubbing stains with rhubarb leaves which are a source of oxalic acid, which is one reason we dont eat them.
