windows activation (27-days left for activation)

Question: windows activation (27-days left for activation)

hi all

is SLP loader functions the same as windows activator?

i'm using Win Server 2003 Standard Edition as my OS. currently, it's already prompting and i have 27-days left for activation

this all happened when i initiate System Recovery using the same CD installer i used to setup the same computer almost 3-years ago. i did so as it hung-up and i can't managed even to go into Safe Mode, as well, the so called Last Known Good Configuration but still to no avail

i used the same CD Key i used initially before but it won't accept or recognized it where it states that if my CD Key was right and still not updating then i should telephone Microsoft

wow!

can i do that when i'm not in the continental USA much more these computer was registered not under my name since it's only a hand-me-down or surplus which is beneficial to me

so i'm looking for SLP loader or windows activator (if it function the same way) intended for Win Server 2003 Standard Edition as it may resolve my issue

hope it's okay to inquire and that if it's not advisable to reply post in here, i welcome it through PM

Preferred Solution: windows activation (27-days left for activation)

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: windows activation (27-days left for activation)

If it's a valid key, you should have no problem calling MS to re-activate Windows.

It should give you an option to pick which country you're from on the activation window, and then a number to call.

Alright i just reinstalled windows. After I get it installed it says I need to activate and register it. I get it hooked up to the internet and before i even get a chance to enter in the serial number it says that it was entered in incorrectly. I try using the same one I used for installing it and it still says that. Is there any way to fix this without buying a new key?

Answer:30 days left for activation

Just got a used (reconditioned) computer...XP Pro SP 2.

I'm not sure what to do with the notice I keep getting, which states I have so many days left for activation. And every time I restart the computer, less days are showing.

Answer:"...days left for activation"?

Take a look at this Microsoft article describing how to activate Windows XP. You will need to activate it using the Internet or by phone: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307890

Answer:3 Days Until automatic activation. Activate windows now.

Hi Matt -

Did you buy a copy of Win7 from your school? Is this a retail copy of Win7 or is it one which is activated by the school's IT department?

If it's a retail copy then with the Product Key you should have been given at purchase you can follow the steps in this link to Clean Install Windows 7. Be sure to boot the disk: How to Boot your Computer from a Bootable CD or DVD

If it's an organization's Enterprise copy, consult your School on how to activate it.

Ask back any questions you have as we will help you set it up so it runs perfectly.

Answer:How to Extend the Windows 7 RC Activation Trial Period Up to 120 Days

This is really old news.
It's been more than 120 days since the RC version was available ... And there's a newer version anyway.
It's time to purchase a legal version now ... Even though it doesn't run as fast as the RC version

There's been an update .. And I'm not sure re-arming will work now anyway.

I got a virus today. I ran avast, malwarebytes and super anti spy ware. (avast indicated the type of infection as a rootkitgen) They got rid of some but every time I restarted I would scan and avast or malware would find some new infection. Also, Right after my first scan/removal today with avast I restarted my computer and when my desk top was loading I got a message that said significant hardware changes were detected and I must activate windows in 3 days. I have a dell laptop with windows 7 Ultimate installed on it (Came preinstalled with laptop). Have been using since last 2 years.
2 days back I decided to upgrade to windows 10 (hey, free stuff ).
I selected Upgrade now option (Not iso/USB), it downloaded, did few things and started installing. While it was configuring (Big blue circle that comes) it failed at 5%. Mostly reason was C drive space was very less (8Gb free).
So it rolled back to windows 7. SO I decide to clear up some things, so uninstalled some stuff . got around 21GB in my C Drive now.
Restarted my machine and tried to install windows 10. But this time it somehow asked for Product Key (There is no SKIP option)
I went to system properties, to my surprise now it was showing 2 days till activation. I clicked on activate now and put my windows 7 ultimate key, but it did not accept.
Just did Genuine check on my windows , it said my copy of Windows is Genuine. But still it messed up with windows 7 license somehow. I am not getting call Support desk option anywhere, as some forums mention. Please help me.
Now I am stuck as I cannot upgrade. What are my options?

Answer:Windows 7 showing 2 days for activation while upgrading to windows10

Hello rohit404404 Welcome to the Seven Forums!

I think you may want to stop by SF's sister site for some information and help regarding the upgrade while I can point you to one guide there that could be a large help for you in getting this problem cleared up. Clean Install Windows 10 Directly without having to Upgrade First

The guide there may just be able to bail you out of this one while you could still try either to enter the product key found on the sticker attached usually on the bottom of a laptop unless too new where it is embedded into the firmware where you then will need a product key tool to recover and enter it in with. That's found in any guide but from an independent source. ShowKeyPlus

If you are able to get 7 to activate itself again automatically or do have to call into MS to explain what happened and get 7 activated with help you can then save a lot of time and effort following the steps in the guide there seeing a clean install rather then sloppy often buggy upgrade type install! And the one thing most never realize is that they should have made a full system image backup before trying anything like this just in case.

Greetings!

This is relatively new experience for me and I have spent some time Googling for solutions.

A friend of mine upgraded his genuinely activated Windows 8 Pro Parallels virtual machine to Windows 10 Pro. After the upgrade, he finds that his Windows 10 Pro is not activating. When I check, the error 0xC004C003 states that the activation is being blocked.

A common suggestion I have encountered was to install the OS from scratch, but that isn't practical in this situation. I am also aware that with Windows 10 the licensing is based on unique hardware identification, which makes me feel that this might affect virtual machine installations due to the nature of virtualizaiton, but surely Microsoft had thought about this before rolling out Windows 10 with the new licensing scheme (or at least I hope).

Another suggestion I read and tried was "slrmgr.vbs /rearm" --> reboot --> "slrmgr.vbs /ato". I still receive the same error. I also tried "slrmgr.vbs /ipk Windows8KeyHere" but it didn't work. I received an error code "0xc004e016" about the key being invalid.

Any ideas?

Hi everybody:
My problem is this: I just build a new rig, (my first build), ordered a Ultra ATA/133 Maxtor w/160GB, just to find out that i could also go the SATA route, ,so I did lots of reading and decided to go w/ a Seagate Barracuda 160 GB SATA, now I have two drives, one is a PATA and one SATA,I cant make a RAID s/u (at least I dont think can) so the PATA is s/u with windows XP (for every day use)and it is activated, The Barracuda is also set up with XP (for gaming) not activated. So I just adjust my BIOS accordingly to choose the boot drive. my dilemma is do I have to pay for a second OS?? even if its for the same rig??? or is there other options???
if anybody have a suggestion I will be very grateful..
p/s--Im on the 25Th day and dont want to loose my info.

thanks: Vitico66

Answer:Use Vista without activation for 120 days

Here a little more INFO....

You can easily extend the 30-day Windows Vista grace period to 120 days. No hacks required. This is an official, supported operation directly from Microsoft.

To extend the grace period another 30 days, simply start a command prompt as Administrator, and issue this command:

slmgr -rearm

Reboot for the change to take effect, and voila, you have 30 more days. You can only extend three times, so the total grace period for a Vista evaluation is 120 days. You do, however, need to be careful that you've installed the correct edition of Vista. At the end of that 120 day grace period, you'll have to pony up a license fee for the edition of Vista you've installed.

hi everyone,

earlier on i installed a clean copy of windows home premium 7 64 bit.
when it prompted me to enter a product key i entered the one that's on the case of my computer(the product key is for windows 7 home premium) and when it got the desktop i went into system properties and it says "3 days untill activation. Activate Windows now."
i will now add some screen prints.

What will happen if i leave it for 3 days will it automatically activate it is a genuine copy?

thanks in advanced.

Answer:3 days until Automatic Activation?

As this is a genuine copy I would personally not wait for the automatic activation to take place but would select the activate now option.

If you wait for the automatic option and something goes wrong - either at your end or Microsoft's - then it could cause you some inconvenience, such as watermarks and loss of functionality and the need to possibly call Microsoft to activate manually.

Problems are not likely but I feel it is better to not chance this

I have W10 installed for about a week and I want to know what'll happen after the 30 days grace period is gone. Does the system lock itself, does it go back to W7 (which seems impossible since I've done a clean install)??

BTW, I have genuine W7 before I installed W10.

Answer:After the 30 days of no activation, what'll happen???

It's not really a grace period as when a previous Windows install let you use it without entering a key for 30 days, after which it went into some minimal use mode.

There was a lot of fuss the first few days when the Activation servers were overloaded by the millions and millions of folks trying to activate their FREE Upgrades. But by now, if your install is still not activating, there is something different going on.

Did you do an Upgrade install? Or, did you do a Clean Install to a machine that never had an activated Win10 on it? IF you did the latter, sorry, it's never going to activate.

Just upgraded my Compaq laptop from Vista to Windows 7 Home Premium through download. New at this and never knew there would be a crisis. What now? Do I hit Activate Windows Now link? Or Change Product key? Any help is greatly appreciated. Bernie

Answer:3 days until automatic activation notice

It depends how you've obtained your copy. Windows 7 is not free, and if you bought it - it should have come with a key. You can't just download and use it for longer than the trial period (30 days) otherwise. If you have a key - use "activate now"

Hello,
I want to know the best practice for REFERECE image windows 7
My server kms is  AUTO_DISCOVERY  if I build my reference image windows 7 on this network and I take ghost (image state before running sysprep), the image is auto actived
After I deploy with sysprep and rearm-0 but problem appeared on kms server with account computer. if i want to fix it,  I read on this forum that we need to tape slmg-rearm just before sysprep computer ..
If I want no activation reference computer I need to shutdown the kms server or build the windows on another network without kms server but the reference computer is good for only 30days after i need to reinstall each time

What is the good solution ?
1- never activate my reference image and reinstall windows 7 each time I want to change setting
2- install windows 7 on the network auto discovery after sysprep with rearm=0 ???
reference image = just before tape sysprep /generalize /oobe /shutdown....

Answer:REFERENCE IMAGE 30 DAYS ACTIVATION kms

Hi,
1. You must do a sysprep before doing a ghost. Otherwise the CMID is not reset which can cause problem with KMS activation. And there is no need to activate your reference image.
2. Activation can be reset an unlimited number of times for an activated Key Management Service (KMS) clients. You can use the sysprep /generalize command where the value of the SkipRearm setting is equal to 1 for the reference image. After capturing this
image, use the sysprep /generalize command, where the value of the SkipRearm setting is equal to 0. But if you rebuild your reference image from scratch no need to worry about that.

Hi all
Anybody who has been using the leaked preview of Office 2010 will get an activation message after 30 days-- and you can't activate it yet as it's not officially out.
It won't stop working however.

But since I downloaded Office Enterprise 2007 with the FREE Technet subscription on this site I'm not going to bother with it (unless it becomes available on the Free subscription). I'm actually quite happy with Office 2007.

Hi there
I recently changed a MOBO from an INTEL based one to one using an AMD PHENOM processor -- W7 didn't want any new activation rather surprisingly. (Broken Mobo and I had a spare ASUS MOBO lying around).

However the first time I switched to using a LAN cable instead of a Wifi USB adapter I got the "Hardware has changed - please activate windows. OK it activated fine -- however seems strange to me that a MOBO change didn't call for any activation (Disks, memory, DVD device etc were canaballized from the old machine) but a simple switch from Wifi to a LAN did. !!! The internal logic of the activation process seems totally illogical and bizarre. (Running W7 x-64 ULTIMATE). !!!

Hi Gents,

Hope someone can help me here. I've been using a retail version of Win7 Home premium 64 for about 2 years now with no issues.

During that time I've reinstalled the product possibly 6 or 8 times. Excessive I know but when things start to go wrong I like to start fresh again. Anyway from memory the last 2 times I have had to use phone activation.

A couple of weeks ago I dropped my laptop and killed the HDD. Put in a new one and reinstalled Win. I've just tried to activate with no luck. I went to phone activation and being lazy I typed in my old code I had saved from last time.

Now I can't activate and when I try and open the phone activation box I get a pop up from the toolbar saying the copy isn't genuine and nothing more.

Is there a way to resolve this or have I pissed off the activation so much that I actually have to shell out for a new copy?

Thanks in advance and I'm located in Thailand if that makes a difference.

Hello, I have my original activation key but when trying to finalize it, windows tells me this key is only for upgrades not for clean installs?

I had to to do clean install and it was from my original official backup disc so I'm not sure what the problem is?

Answer:Activation says my key is only for upgrades not activation?

Maybe you bought an upgarde disc and not a full install disc.

Use your original disc, not the backup.

Hello, I was using OEM copy of Windows xp media center for my desktop. Last month, the motherboard become unsuable so i replaced it with another type. I also changed my processor and memory. Because I dont have a CD copy of the original OS, I was not able to use the OEM product key. I used "pirated copy" instead. How can I use my OEM product key to validate the copy of Windows I am using?

Answer:windows xp validation:31 days left

You can't. The OEM copy died with the motherboard. The only legal replacement is the same model of MB.

Please visit the TSG Rules, we don't assist with pirate copies of Windows here.

I have a question, not necessarily a problem. Last night I installed Nero and when I restarted, Windows XP Home came up and told me that I have made significant changes to my system since Windows was activated. (I bought and installed XP home version sometime between Xmas and New Year's, so I've had it about a month.) It wanted me to reactivate windows withing 3 days. I was a little confused, but tried to reactivate, but was informed that my code had exceeded its limits and to get a new one. I had a choice of phone numbers to call, but since it was later in the evening, thought I would do it first thing this morning. This morning I repeated what I did last night cause I could find the list of numbers. This included going online. I was waiting for the next info page to load and noticed at the top of the screen that it had been successfully reactivated. Last night I re-entered my code. This morning I didn't. I don't understand what happened and why I would have to reactivate to start with. I am curious about this and wonder if anybody else has had this happen. I hope I don't have to reactivate every time that I make changes. That would suck.
Thanks.

Answer:Windows XP activation

Typically you only have to reactivate after major changes. I think it is up to 10 hardware devices? Normally you'll get that if you swap out a mobo or change a lot of hardware. As for the key being used too many times, you can just call and they will give you another to type in.

Hi All

Just recently I replaced the motherboard on my HP Probook 6555b laptop and had a concern that Windows would not activate and to my surprise it did without me having to enter any license key.
Reading various articles about Win 10 activation and adding new hardware I would have assumed that because it was a new motherboard I would have issues with activation, but this wasn't the case.
So it would appear that Win 10 activation is not tied to the motherboard so how was I able to activate without any issue?
Not that I'm complaining as I'm quite surprised that it worked just curious if anybody could through any light on it

Cheers
Ged

Do you have to activate Win XP and if not how can I stop popup reminder for activation countdown. Is there anyway cause it is very annoying.

Answer:windows activation

A necessary evil I'm afraid. Windows XP will typically remind you to activate the product (most users will have 30 days to activate XP after installation).

To activate XP manually, you can use the Start menu shortcut in the System Tools Accessories folder. At the command prompt, type: oobe/msoobe /a or Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/Activate Windows.

Hi, hope your well.I own 2 laptops from HP and have been very pleased usually. I recently updated my Pavillion DV7laptop to windows 10 and did a wipe as I wanted a completly fresh install.Install has gone great but I cannot activate my windows as the windows serial code is unreadable under my laptop with general wear and tear. (I can easily provide images to confirm this.) I have no documentation showing what my windows serial code is. This means I am limited in changing things on windows. Can you help at all HP?!?  I have tried to contact via support on the website but when I enter the laptop SN it comes up with warranty out of date and I cant speak to anyone via online chat or phone to discuss this. Thanks Mark

Question: Windows Activation

I've had Windows XP Pro Installed on this particular problem machine for about 6 or 7 months now. Last night, the power went out with the computer on, when I rebooted the computer, and when I click on my name in the windows welcome screen, I get a message saying my computer needs to be activated, but I vividly remember activating it, ummmm... like the day I installed Windows. When I click, activate now, the next box says that Windows has already been activated??? I click ok, and it logs me off... and that's all I can do.

So now what am I supposed to do? How do I re-activate my copy of windows??

Answer:Windows Activation

thats really gay, I think a reinstall should fix it or a repair using XP disc.

Deari got the product key from BIOS,but how i can get the windows version work for this product key i tried many times nothing work,

Answer:windows 8 activation

hi mohammedKareem,

If you have the 25 digit product key, you will need to use a utility that checks which version of Windows that product key will work (lookup PID Checker on the web)..Once you know the version of Windows that the product key is designed for, you will then need to install the corresponding OS.

Examples:
- If you have a Win8.1 OEM Product key (BIOS) and you have Win8 installed, you need to upgrade to Win8.1 via Windows Store to activate Windows.(or follow this guide if you want to clean install)
- If you have a Windows 8.1 OS and have a Win8 Core OEM Product key, run Windows Update and/or follow this guide on how to activate by phone.

Hi Guys,Just to inform those of you who are unaware of the procedure of activating your OS if, when re-installing, you find that you have exceded the amount of times you can re-install, as I did. Just call the UK telephone number that is displayed in the dialoge box that appears, and hopfully as in my case you will get to speak to someone, you will be asked for the activation code which is displayed in the dialouge box. You will then be told to type into the available boxes a new activation code. All of this took less than ten minuets to complete. All very easy. Hope this information is useful!

Answer:Windows Activation

James,
Welcome to SevenForums.

What version of Win 7 is currently installed on your system?

WINVER.EXE will tell you.

What did you buy for ~$300?

Where did you buy the illegal version?

Did you buy a dvd?

compare that dvd physically to a win 7 dvd at a known reputable dealer.

Where was the Product code that you had to enter?

What I'm saying is you most probably have an illegal version.

Go back to where you bought the CD.DVD and best in the accompanyment of a representative of the police and ask them to refund/replace or demonstrate to you that the software is installable.

I installed Windows 7 x64 hp on a new computer that I build. I installed it from a CD-Rom. The problem ist that the Product Key from that CD has already been used to the limit. However I do have another Product Key also for windows 7 x64 hp. Now...my problem is that I'm not sure if the second Key will work because in the activation center it shows me that there is an Product ID. Will it work even though the Product ID and the Product Key dont match?
Even if it would work, would that count as an activation for the Key or the ID? Because the ID is registered to the CD and that has already its limit reached.

Another question is: what actually happens if you install and activate the same product too many times? Will Microsoft deactivate the first activation? I dont want all my computers to crash!!

Please Help

Answer:Help with the activation of Windows 7

Generally speaking, an install CD is a licence for one and only one installation. Any more than that is illegal and subject to penalties. There are a very few exceptions, and if you are one of the legal exceptions, you need to fully explain how you qualify before any help will be coming from this site.

Answer:windows 7 activation

one copy one machine that is the rules.

If your version is oem technically you could get done by microsoft for installing it on more than one system.

You should have a seperate key for each install which means you have to call microsoft and pay them for a new key.

remember you do not own the copy of windows you have, you bought it to use through permission of microsoft they still own it. Installing it on more than one computer in Microsofts eyes is stealing and piracy.

Everytime I start windows it asked me activate, which I do through the internet activation. Everytime I start it!!!. It has become a part of my life. Well...yesterday, just like everyday I went to activate it and it said that my activation had expired. It then asked me to put in my Product Key, which I did and it said it had expired. I called the activation place and they asked me the general questions;
1. Is this the first activation? NO, of course not I do it everyday.
2. Is this the only computer that it is on? YES!!

I told them of my problem and they sent me to technical support. I informed them that I bought the computer used. (BAD MISTAKE) and that after 6 months it asked me to activate and asked for a Product Key. I did not have one because the person I bought it from did not give me any of that. I went out and paid about $300.00 for the Windows XP software to make sure I was legal. I installed it and ever since then it has asked me to activate and I would and it has been fine. They said that my computer was not supported by Microsoft and in order to fix this problem I would have to PAY for support! I was furious. I just spent all this money and I can't get my computer to work.

anyway....I went to the website support.microsoft.com and found how to fix this. It said that I should insert the my Windows XP CD, restart my computer and boot from CD. I have tried many times. I have hit F2 so many times that my keyboard went almost went bad. LOL

Michelle,
Welcome to Major Geeks.

When you installed the new Operating System, did you do a complete format? If not, it may be worth it to do so, and then install, so you are rid of any old entries from the previous Operating System. I'm sure we can get you up and running, since you have a legit copy that you paid for.

Hi, This is my first post. Was looking for a little help as im stuck.

My aunties laptop (an old advent q200)wouldn't boot, think the partition was corrupted, so I used partedmagic to retrieve her important files. I then formatted the drive and then freshly reinstalled windows 7 home premium.

During the setup process it didn't ask me for the windows activation code and it doesn't show any option for inputting it under computer/properties (where it should say product id or change product key). Ive tried slui.exe 3 but comes up with don't have correct permissions.

I cant use windows update yet as I need the correct drivers to connect to the internet. So im stuck and any advice would be great.

I have purchased and installed a full copy of Windows XP. It has taken me a month to get the set up right (I have reloaded it at least three times) and have yet to activate it. One one occation I found that Go Back 3.0 had lost its history (I have since learned that this can happen when you defrag) so I decided to reinstall it. while uninstalling I had a power cut which obviously caused files to be corrupt (by the mid file removal process). This left the PC unable to boot into Windows. I could not resolve the issue (I obviously had no access to the internet) so another clean install was undertaken. Now I have got it right (I think), I have to ask what if I upgrade my motherboard, will the OS still work witout a reinstall (it didn't when I went from a Chaintech Intel to a Gigabyte AMD). How do I get MS to accept re-activation of the same software be it may with changes to the system components. I have heard that Nortons Ghost or Drive Image could make a complete copy of my drive that could be transfereed to a new system but I am surre MS have thought of that one. Just for the record in the past I have tried one of those car boot copies of XP - don't go there, the service pack 1 download cased a massive corruption of the files that resulted in a clean install and lots of work. I bought the legitimate copy to prevent reoccurance and so I can keep the system up to date.

Answer:Windows XP - Re-activation on the Same PC

It's been said (on here)that it's best to do a clean install of Windows when a motherboard has been changed. I guess you didn't want to hear that.Windows XP will allow hardware changes (4 or 6 i think) before you have to activate again.Even if you do it's painless, MS know people uprade hardware and will give a new activation code if needed. Just be honest and you cannot go wrong.

I'm buying a new computer tower with no OS installed, but I have XP installed on my current tower. Would it be possible to just tell Microsoft I've upgraded and use the same key and activate successfully. The licence is still stuck to the side of my current computer with the number on.

I have the full installation CD. I realise that it's "tied" to this computer. But when you significantly upgrade hardware, you need to reactivate. So what makes the PC the PC - how much can you upgrade before it becomes a different PC?

Obviously, I'm technically buying a new unit, but how do MS know that?

Simply because, whats the point in buying a whole new XP when vista comes out start of next year.

Answer:Windows XP Activation - new pc

Hi

Not liking your chances too much

If the current version is on a OEM pc then it will tied to the bios of that motherboard and you will not be able to activate it

If you have a full version bought standalone then you will have to call microsoft at activation as the hardware will be completely different. I don't think they will take too kindly to it.

I installed my copy of 7 ultimate in a virtual machine, been running that way since January 7 of this year. I forgot about it, and installed it on my laptop. After updating it, it now says I have XX number of days to activate, I chose to activate now and it says that the number is not good. I went back to the machine I forgot about and checked that and that shows it is activated. My question is what do I need to do legally to activate the copy on my laptop and deactivate the one on the virtual machine?

Welcome,

In january I bought a new pc. And my friend put a licenced windows 8.1. Then came the upgrade to windows 10. And evrything was ok. A while after I got windows 10 I had to get a new mother board (my old one died) and now it say's in the right corner that i have to activate windows.

I tried the help desk and other forums and they said that the only way was to re-instal win 8.1 activate it and then upgrade to win 10. is there any other way ?
I read something about a activation fix that microsoft will release?

Thank you for your time.

Answer:Windows 10 activation.

Enter your Win 8 key (assuming it's retail and has transferability)

With the new version there is no need to go through the whole upgrade malarky.

Question: Windows Activation

After I wiped my PC, due to a virus, I receive a message saying 'Activate Windows'. This pops up every 3 hours and takes me out of whatever I'm doing. I have been on Windows support and the people said they cant do anything. I have Windows 8.1 pro now because I got automatically upgraded. Now I have spent over 3 months following all guides and they're all different from what my problem is. I am willing to spend time with anyone who can help me with this VERY frustrating problem!! Thank you to anyone who can respond!

Answer:Windows Activation

Hi, did you get it shipped with windows 8? You may need to install windows 8 with your original serial and then upgrade manually to 8.1. Let me know how you get on!

Hi, yesterday I had to format my system due to various problems and I didn't have a backup of my system that where missing these problems.Unfortunatly, I had to phone up Microsoft to get Windows activated as when trying to activate via the net I had the "Exceed activation" error. My question is, would I have to phone Microsoft from now on to activate my Windows (it is a Retail version)? As usual, thanks in advance.

Answer:Windows XP Pro Activation

I dont see why you would have to phone them all the time, you should be able to do it off the web,i have phoned them and still done it off the web after when i need to reactivate again.Mine is an upgrade version of XP home it may be different with XP pro,but i dont see why.

Hi everyone, I recently install windows XP on one of my pc's and each time I try to activate the key I get a blue screen stating "A problem has been detected, windows has shut down to prevent damage IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL_ your BIOS may need updating please check with your computer vendor"Now correct me if I am wrong but messing around with the BIOS can actuall cause more problems. Should I really be doing this. BIOS may not be the problem any other suggestions as to why I keep getting this screen. Windows Xp also updated service pack 2 this morning and as soon as I click the anti virus icon on the task bar the screen went blue again telling me windows has shut down. I thought Windows XP was more stable? What happends if you don't activate windows? does it make your computer redundent? Can I still use windows as normal? Windows Xp is new to me, maybe someone can share some light to all this niggling issues. Thank you.

Answer:Windows XP key activation

Incompatible hardware, dodgy device driver or wrong type of disc utility. Can you post the rest of the code contained in the message, also the name of the device causing the problem should be given towards the bottom of the screen. Should have a .sys extention.

Question: Windows Activation

Hi,
I m getting this message since yesterday.

This pre-release version of Windows 7 Ultimate will expire in 0 hours

To keep using Windows, back up your files, and then install any edition of Windows 7 Ultimate.

Then after some min it restart on its own.....

my configuaration-

windws 7 Ultimate
SP-1,v.721

now what can u do???

Answer:Windows Activation

Please check this thread for a possible solution: Pre-Release version expiring

It seems you need to uninstall the pre-release version of SP1 and install the up-to-date RTM version of SP1. This is because what you have is the pre-release version of Windows 7, which has an expiry date.

When I say SP1, I'm talking about the service pack itself, not a complete re-install of Windows 7.

Hi all!

I have got another question for you!
I found this one the site where i want to buy W7:

Translation:
Activation of Windows 7 is not possible when it is a different language than the already installed version of Windows. E.G. Dutch Windows Vista to Windows 7 in english is NOT possible.

Activation of Windows 7 is not possible when the bit versions dont match, e.g. 32-bits to 64-bits or the other way round is NOT possible.

The first criterium is nota problem. Vista (dutch) to 7 (dutch), so thats okay!
But, I want to upgrade from 32 bit to 64!
I know the installation is possible (clean install)
But, will I be able to activate my 64 bit Windows 7?!
Please help me!

Answer:Windows 7 activation!

Yes, your key will work and activate on 32bit or 64bit, just not both at the same time.

I recently had Windows Vista and my Hard Drive crashed so I installed a new one and reloaded all the original drivers and programs from the recovery disc. I purchased a Windows 7 upgrade and installed it on my laptop and my Desktop which is a 64 Bit system. It seemed to have loaded correctly but noticed yesterday that I got a message that I needed to activate Windows. So I entered the Product Key # and it kept saying that I needed to re-enter or buy a new program. I can't understand why it keeps saying it when I do have the product key. I never got the message on Vista so what is the system not recognizing ? I woud hate to either re-format my system and reload the Vista program and then upgrade again or have to buy another Windows 7 program. Is there an easier way ?

Answer:Windows 7 activation

You have to purchase another copy of Windows for the computer you can not activate. You will get a new key and you can input that to activate.

Keys are only good for one machine.

We have about 30 PC's with embedded BIOS product keys for Windows 7/8.1 (I don't remember which) But I know that if we put a Windows 10 HDD into the same machine and activate it with that BIOS Key it says it's activated. Does that mean that the hardware ID is now registered with Microsoft as a windows 10 Upgrade?

Hi Everybody,

I updated to Windows 10 last week from what I thought was an activated version of windows 8.1, but now I'm stuck with an "Activate Windows" watermark in the bottom right of my screen (which goes over everything, not just the desktop) and I was wondering if in order to activate windows I could just buy a new product key, or would I need to re-install windows with the new product key. If anyone could give me any other idea of how to resolve my problem I would be truly grateful.

Answer:Windows 10 Activation Help

First thing to try is to activate it using your windows 8.1 key (change product key) from activation menu.

Use showkeyplus to extract 8.1 key if you do not know it.

I purchased a few months agos an upgrade ver of winxp for a troubled system that died 2 days after I upgraded it to winxp. That computer no longer exists. I have since purchased a new computer w/OS. I would like to pass on the winxp upgrade that I did activate but only used for 2 days. I have consulted the Microsoft WS but I do not want buy a new license since I did not get any real use out of the one I bought, nor do I want whoever I donate it to, to to have to purchase a license. I also do not want to pay the fee to get in touch with Microsoft. I spent good money on an upgrade that I am not using and I want to pass it on as a legit copy. How do I go about getting a new activation key without incurring additional expenses? Thanks!

Answer:New Activation Key for Windows XP

and welcome to the Forum

You do not need a new key . . whoever installs it next, at the point they activate it, will just call microsoft and explain that it is being reinstalled on a different machine. It's a quick and easy call for them.

Since it is an upgrade version, the next user will need a previous installation cd to be able to install

I bought W7 and installed it on my laptop after saving the W7 beta mig files to a USB. I installed the new W7 and did not get back ANY of my original files, programs, photos etc. ! I am really upset. Now I had HDD problems with my Dell Inspiron 530s so I installed the same W7 on it and had to reactivate PS3 and all of my other programs as they did not transfer from Vista. WHAT A CROCK!!! I talked to support and they said I have 30 days to buy a new key. I went to the MS store and ordered the Family pak for 3 activations for $175, waiting for it to arrive. Today I get a message that I MUST activate today! I called support and she tells me I will lose the current W7 along with all of my newly installed programs. I said I have 3 new keys coming, she said I have to re-install W7 when they arrive to install the new key and then re-install ALL of my programs again! Is this right?????

Answer:Windows 7 re-activation

Let me get this straight...you bought Windows 7 and installed it, it didn't go as expected (Meaning you didn't upgrade as opposed to full install, at least from what I gather), you called support and they told you you had to go and BUY Windows 7 again?

Something doesn't match up with this story....care to elaborate?

Answer:regarding windows 10 activation

Hi Step 1 Create Recovery media, I suggest DVD's, to re-install OS at a later date. Step 2 Backup your data, either to about 30 DVD's or perhaps use a 128 gig SD card which is slow like a DVD. Step 3  OR consider shrinking the C:\ partition and creating a 250 gig  Data partition. When your Hard Drive fails just how important is your data?  How will you recover it from a DEAD HDD?  So make a backup plan now and carry it thru. NOW if you have done Step 1 you can consider rolling back to W 8.X if you wish, if you have also done Step 2 then you can roll back and consider your position from there. Without a set of RECOVERY MEDIA and a DATA Backup you will be in the sad state of a broken system.  So please ask again when you have done something positive about your OS and Data.

I am currently running a system on windows 7 ultimate and I would like to upgrade the motherboard and ram so that I have ddr3 ram will this cause issues when I restart the system with the new mother board if I reuse all of the other components including hhd and cpu and gpu

Answer:Windows 7 Activation

Yes you will have to reinstall the OS. At that point you will be required to enter your product key which won't work. You are only allowed one machine install per the license agreement. That product key is technically tied to your motherboard. So while the 'computer' is the same, in microsofts eyes it isn't and you will be required to get a new key.
