browser has to be reopened to work after a minute or so

Question: browser has to be reopened to work after a minute or so

So I run a p4 3.0, 896 ram and 512 kbps dsl windows xp

I live in greece so I use OTE as my ISP with a speedtouch modem.

My problem is, my internet will work for a few pages when I first open the browser and then when I try to open a new page (that im sure exists) it just pretends like its trying to open it but just sitting there using none of the network speed. (im sure this is the case as I've turned off everthing else including my anti-virus and whanot to test this)

the weird thing is that when i copy link location, close all instances of the browser, reopen the browser and paste the link that wasnt working just a moment ago. it works? It's some weird connection between my browser or ISP and the internet.

please please please someone know what to do!

Preferred Solution: browser has to be reopened to work after a minute or so

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: browser has to be reopened to work after a minute or so

Well i think that you coulds try installing the drivers for the moderm or repair them. You could also try and download internet explorer and when the installtion wizards starts you should try repair, this should repair any erros or missing files, or if you still have the windows xp disc, you should try and install it again, this should also fix any errors and missing files BUT IF YOU DO THAT REMEMEBER TO BACK-UP TOUR FILES BECAUSE THEY WILL BE LOST AND YOU WILL ALSO HAVE TO INSTALL ALL YOUR PROGRAMS BACK ON

hope this helps, please reply gd luck

Browers, either Google Chrome or Internet Explorer, go into the internet, however after about 1 - 2mintes of use, everthing freezes. If I go into att e mail, it ceases taking commands. Chrome will also stop taking commands.

I ran AD Ware, also system tools like defrag and clean disk. Also ran Reg Cure. Nothing seems to help. This is a new problem. I don't know whether to use system restore or not...I'd rather not. Do you think it will help?

These problems are so damned annoying. Microsoft and other are just using us all for guinea pigs for their deficient software.

Can you guys help on this? 44 guy

Answer:browser opens then after a minute or two everything freezes and get browser not respoding

Are you positive that it is only in internet browsers? or is it possible that it could be in other stuff also?

It seems suspect that the whole computer freezes only in a browser much less more than one browser.

I would check hardware and make sure that something else is really going on.

I personally would at least test RAM for errors and also hard drive.

To further narrow it down, does this also happen in Firefox? (look at event viewer also).

Alot of stuff i know, but test this stuff and let us know.

First let me say that this problem just starting occuring about 3 weeks ago. Prior to that time I never had any connection issues and have been using the same Dell 4450 system and 2Wire 1100 router for almost 2 years.

After I boot up (any time during the day) and open a browser session, exactly 10 minutes later, I get a "Page not Found" error on IE6. My 2Wire Home Portal Monitor goes to a dull gray indicating that my Home Network and Internet connection is DOWN. Over the past few weeks I have tried pretty much everything: backed out of SP2 to SP1, changed internet options, uninstalled/reinstalled the 2Wire & Bellsouth Fast Access software, bought a new network adapter card, changed registry settings, etc. It's a wonder that my machine is still functioning! And completely stumped my server, network & pc config guys at work.

Ok.. now this is my temporary way around the 10-minute disconnect (which is how I have the time to write all this). By making a connection into my company's secure network using Cisco's VPN, then simply disconnecting a couple of seconds later, my Home Portal reconnects and I get unlimited browsing capability until the next time the pc is shutdown or rebooted. Then its back to the 10-minute limit again.

Any ideas???

Answer:10 minute browser timeout

It almost sounds like you may have a problem with your TCP/IP stack which may be caused by your companies Cisco VPN client...

By telling us "By making a connection into my company's secure network using Cisco's VPN, then simply disconnecting a couple of seconds later, my Home Portal reconnects and I get unlimited browsing capability until the next time the pc is shutdown" you have effectively ruled out ANY hardware being the cause (don't worry about your network hardware from this point).

Have you checked to see if there are any known compatibility problems with the 2Wire & Bellsouth Fast Access software and the Cisco VPN client?

ANother thought is how is your physical connection currently at home? Is it PC, DSL, Internet or is it PC, Router, DSL, Internet? If its not the second way you may want to setup the router and have all your 2Wire & Bellsouth Fast Access information in the router so its always connected... and then you only have the VPN client on the PC.

Another thought is has the cisco client been uninstalled and reinstalled? Maybe a TCP/IP Stack reset may help out to?

It really is sounding like a software problem and not hardware thoguh due to the quoted statement above.

My computer keeps freezing, I can't move the mouse, and nothing moves on the screen. this lasts for maybe a minute, not too long, and then a box pops up saying:

A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, or you can continue to see if the script will complete.

Script: chrome://vsitoolbar/content/vsiUtils.js:1943

what is this and is there a way to stop it? Somtimes the page that has the pop up is not the one I am currently on, and so I have to navigate away from what I am doing to get rid of the box.

lately I have had the CPU usage box minimized in my taskbar, and I noticed that it did not move either.

I hope this is enough information, if not let me know and I'll try to find out what I can.

Answer:Frozen Browser and Mouse for about a minute

Have you tried disabling the VSI toolbar?

Hello all, I've recently attempted to clean all spyware off of this machine running Windows ME. I've ran spyware scans using the latest definitions of Ad-aware, Spybot, and Hijack this. I've also attempted to delete certain .dll's that I read were malicious. But I'm still getting a browser pop-up about every 5 minutes. If my default browser is IE, the popup goes to some type of ad rotation including URLs such as: http://offers.shopathomeselect.com/a....asp?id=bm1004, http://z1.adserver.com/w/cp.x;rid=52...c=29;c=48;nc=1, and http://www.partypoker.com/index20100_np.htm?wm=2574506. If my default browser is Firefox, the popup goes to the address "%1" which in turn loads mozilla.org. Here is my HJT log, in which I can't find anything that would be causing these popups:

Hi everybody,

After searching on the internet and doing some disk assignment tweaks, i still can't find a solution for my problem.

My w10 was running fine every day when all of a sudden my pc got really slow. When clicking on the start menu it sometimes doesnt load and a reboot/shut down takes 5 minutes before something happens. Also loading the file explorer takes forever and when finished loading it won't show examples of files like jpg's and png's.

I guess it is a problem with w10 because the ssd where my w10 is installed is only 2 months old. Do you guys have any solution? I need my pc for work, so i'm really trying to find a solution.

Answer:W10 too slow to work with after a minute of 5

run this few things from Command prompt (As Administrator) first:
sfc /scannow
and
dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
To make sure there's no system corruption.
At disk properties, under tools , you'll find Error checking > Check, that should check file integrity.
Did you run any AV checks maybe and Malwarebytes too ?

Hello everyone, this is a repost of a thread from a few years ago.

Through various Google searches involving my problem, this appears to be the best forum to post on, so here I go. I am running Windows 7 x64 and will outline the following:

1) I noted that I began getting various browser redirects from sites when searching through Google (I have not checked if this was elsewhere). The browser would redirect me to websites such as newsfudge.com.
2) From this point I decided to attempt to run some scans. I had Microsoft Security Essentials installed however noted that it claims the service isn't running. When attempting to enable the service, it stated the service was not installed.
- This was rectified. I uninstalled and reinstalled the application successfully.
3) Upon attempting to run both Malwarebytes and MSE (Security Essentials from here on out), I would reboot into the computer and began to notice that I would get a dialogue box that would explain my computer is about to be logged off because of a critical error.
- Attempting to restore "Last known good configuration" did not resolve this.
- The same dialogue box pops up when I try to restart in Safe Mode, I am currently posting this from my work computer.
- I haven't been able to find a specific error within the System Logs so if there should be one stated please tell me what to look for.
- I believe this occurs when MSE detects several infections, which appear to be different variants of sirefef.

When I turn on the computer about twenty minutes is quiet. Than fan starts like a hurricane, slows down and stops. It lasts few seconds. The fan works in this way regularly with one minute intervals.

Hi,

If you go to toshiba power saver you should be able to turn your up or down. Once you open this program from control panel, you have the option to change how much your processor runs as well as how much your cooling modules work. Turning either one down will make the fan not come on as much. Then you might want to try and use a vacuum cleaner to suck the air intake grills to clean any dust that could be clogging it up. Dust can make the fan run more because the lack of cool, fresh air entering the system to cool the cpu. Hope this helps.

Hello all. I have an X220 with 6201, latest drivers downloaded from the Lenovo site. Whenever I sleep or hibernate, when I resume computer (on Win7) I get either a litte red x or a little glowing orb on my wireless connection, which indicates "Wireless not connected - Connections are available".  But I can't connect for up to a minute!! If I leave it alone it will connect on its own. What is going on, this is really becoming a problem!

If you can't afford to wait a minute of so to reconnect, then use Fn+F5 to turn off all wireless devices before you hibernate and use it again to to switch them back on when you power up again.

Thanks in advance for your help. It appears I have randomly picked up a virus of some sort wherein whenever I am connected to the internet, my computer gives the "Windows Has Recovered From a Critical Error and Will Restart in One Minute. [Sirefef virus]Hi all.It looks like I've picked up a virus while browsing the internet (Drive-by infection). The computer was operating OK except last night I heard it playing a video talking about meryl streep (through the speakers) but there was no window open (a bit sus). Then when I checked this morning, I saw that System Centre essentials, Windows update, Firewall and whatever Windows Defender is now called have all been disabled (computer still functioning OK though...).I then tried to reinstall System Centre Essentials and now get a message every time I boot the computer saying "Windows has encountered a critical problem and will restart automatically in one minute. Please save your work Now". This happens in Normal and Safe Mode.I'm not running a CD Drive emulator, and I'd love some suggestions on how to tackle this given my 1 minute window of opportunity when the computer boots. Thanks![Edit] Just tried rebooting my PC this morning, it looks like I have picked up the sirefef virus (or a variant) - the latest definitions from MSE picked it up. It's still doing the reboot every minute trick though, and the files keep reappearing after i "Clean" them.[Edit #2] I have used Kaspersky Rescue Disk 10 (http://support.kaspersky.com/viruses/rescuedisk/) to locate the original version of Services.exe in the winsxs folder and copy it back to the c:\windows\system32\ folder (after renaming the one sirefef put there) could have... well i was using my computer and then the computer began acting funny.
I scanned the computer using SpyBot S&D to find virtumonde.dll had infected me once again i paused here and went on to Malwarebytes which found 23 vundo problems, bitdefender also threw up a flag in its scan. I then immediately disconnected from the internet

I let both programs clean what they could, mal bytes removed all but 2 and spybot S&D cleared all but one of the problems, it then prompted me to restart my computer and allow it to scan upon startup, it ran thru and found only one error which it said it fixed. I then restarted my computer and re-ran both malware bytes and spybot as well as bitdefender, all 3 came up completely clean, for an extra measure of security i went ahead and ran SDFix which also reported finding nothing, i was pleased with the results...

However: the last time i was infected with the virtumode.dll neither spybot or bitdefender could remove it and it just seemed to easy compared to first time in which i had to remove it with SDFix.

I would tend to think that as nothing is showing it would be clean, but is it possible that i am still infected?

Answer:infection/ Reopened

Was it only vundo that existed? It is hard to say without having followed all the logs. Most likely then if it was removed then you are clean. I would still run these to be sure. From your regular user account..Download Attribune's ATF Cleaner and then SUPERAntiSpyware , Free Home Version. My equipment: Dell XPS M1330 laptop. Running Windows Vista HP. I was also running NAV but it had not been updating and I hadnt fixed it.

I have been struggling with infection for number of days the effects make the hardware perform as if it has intermittent defects. these are black screen with a white stripe. Machine runs hot the fan burning & turning like its trying to get liftoff. The startup screen regulary can be seen but with multiple blue stripes. if I manage to get to the windows splash screen, without getting "blacked out" the windows logon has an additional "splash" overlay and decolor of the screen. Generally performance is poor and slow. I know the second I got infected. I was running a flash movie and the screen changed after I clicked into the site. The mouse became like a grid with a box of lines. Then the screen went funny and the computer crashed. It let me start-up but the screen went black (with the stripe). I originally could attach a monitor and see windows when my laptop monitor did this. But after re-connecting to the net I can no longer see windows from my external monitor. The conditions changed!

I can use the BIOS setup and the Laptop diagnostics - nothing, no screen problems no symptoms. I have had this on the machine for over 24 hours no screen or runability issues

I can run Sppotmau recovery and have rescued my files. I had no good backup files due to using a disk encryption package (PGP)

I read some stuff on this ... Read more

Hi, and Thank You for taking the time to read my "post'.

While ATTEMPTING to d/l a zipped file, a warning popped up saying "THREAT DETECTED" and asked if I wanted to continue... I immediately stopped the d/l. However, later that day, my resident shield (AVG) popped up, and within hrs, my pc was infected with over 300 various viruses! I was able to fix, delete, quarantine etc. most of them. Alot were in temp. file folders and a few in system restore, wich I turned off. I was left with 6 trojans in windows and windows systems folders. After 2 days of researching the web, I decided to reinstall windows rather than to reformat entire pc. Afterwards I did another scan, (this time using the free 30 day trial of Nortons.(it came with pc and installs with each recovery / format etc.) It checked out fine. Over the next couple days, 3 of the same files were infected, again. I was able to quarantine 2 of them, but can't seem to rid/fix one of them. The scan says it's a "High Risk", however following the link provided, it says it's "Very Low Risk" My pc is running fine, but i'm still concerned. *The infected file is: "C:\windows\nrrqt34032.exe" (the 2 in quaratine are also in windows, and are: "ajhs5668.exe" and "cekpb0726.exe") * Should I just ignore them? *Also, I'm afraid to turn "system Restore" back on again, should I be? And my last question regar... Read more

Hello and welcome, first I will move this fro AF&P to the Am I Infected forum as you are.Let's run something else as sometimes that is what is needed. We need to disable Spybot S&D's "TeaTimer"TeaTimer works by preventing ANY changes to the system. The internet comes and goes. I'll have pages load instantly for a minute or so and then the next click the pages times out. A minute of page refreshing and more time outs and then I'm back to blazing speeds again. This repeats again and again. Restarting the computer, cable modem and router seems to make no difference. I've tried IE, Firefox, Chrome and Safari, and again, no difference. I have 4 computers on my home network. This happens on all of them but for the sake of troubleshooting this I have physically disconnected 3 of them from the network. I've reset and reconfigured the router. I've removed the router and connected straight to the modem. No problems. Blazing connection. Added the router back in the loop, reboot and problem occurs immediately. So router problem, right? Now that I'm back in town, I'd like to see if someone can figure this out. Here is the link to the closed one.

I don't have much time because the connection will slow to a crawl very soon.

Yes, it happens in IE 6 and Firefox. All the tests results are in the closed thread.

T22 2647-8eu, new install of WinXP Pro (from employer's image, generic), SP2, SP3. When we closed the case and reopened, the screen was black. Installed ThinkPad Power Management driver for Windows Vista, XP, 2000, Me, 98 SE - ThinkPadVersion: 1.52Release Date: 2009/01/05(from Lenovo site) When we close the case, then reopen it, system reboots. Also: the disk doesn't spin down when the lid is closed. We've owned this machine for about 5 years; was running XP Pro from the same source, no problem with closing/reopening, wiped the machine for a new user. (Also: updated Bios to 1.12, got the Battery MaxiMiser software, and installed the Windows XP supplement file, ver.1.20.) The battery is almost completely dead -- this MaxiMiser software reports ERROR for remaining percentage. Could that be it? Message Edited by Casals on 01-11-2009 12:27 PM

Answer:T22 reboots after case closed and reopened

One more bit of data: suspend from Windows does the same thing: screen goes black, there's some hdd activity, but the disk never spins down, and there's no way to bring it back.

longhouse hope your still around, because i bought an adaptor from Maplins for 6.99. They said just to take out cd drive ribbon and put this one in and windows xp will recognise it automatically. Well i did and it didnt, it does have 4 pins for jumper to be altered but i dont know where it should be put?. I will tell you the make of hard disk it is and i would be grateful for any help.It is a Fujitsu model number MHS2030AT, 30 gb. The jumper is across the bottom two as it came out of the laptop and on top of the drive it says for that setting " cable sel" It shows two other settings one with no jumper at all and says " device 0" and the other the pins are on the end two vertically and says jumper device 1. Hope im making sense?. Also can you tell me the way the ribbon goes onto the back as it can fit both ways, i know it has a reb stripe down one side, also can the power adaptor go into any spare connector within the tower?. As you can see i am ver amateur at this and your help is gratefully recieved.

Then SOMETIMES:

Sometimes i get neither, just my startbar and icons dissapear..

What makes me post it this time, is it has happened 9 times today, that is a new record.

Which i fixed by making a new boot.ini file.

I recently have updated to XP Pro SP3 and updated my nvidia graphics card. I now have a virus or two that is redirecting my pages and messing and exploiting my internet browser. At first there was a ton of malware, and MBAM took care of most of it. Now all it finds is a registry key about userinit and an executable file in system32 called userinit.exe, and it says it removes it successfully, but it really hasn't, and the problem persists on. I am currently experimenting with SDfix i think it is called, but it is not seeming to find it, but it finds something else. i have yet to know whether or not it works in my case, but any other information would help

Thanks,

Hey everyone, this is the old ladies computer this time and now I know where to go. Anyway she is definitly infected with the Google-redirect virus, and I believe also infected with rootkits because MBAM cannot remove them, and they seem to just come back stronger. Comp Specs:Windows Version: Windows XP Professional x86Service Pack: 3Processor: AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3200+Memory(Ram): 446.4 MBSymptoms:Can see that the computer hits the google-redirect.com when going to a new website, and when clicking on links that should not open a new page, it still does and goes to a page not having anything to do with the subject. MBAM reports multiple infections everytime. Here is a pic of the redirect:EDIT: Also I cannot install Super Anti-Spyware, I get the installer error, but am able to install other programs just fine.I currently have:MBAM 1.36 with latest updateHi-Jack This 2.0.2CCleanerThey are all installed and run fine.I will await your instructions. Thanks in advance.

Hey there,
I have a Inpsiron 15 7559 with touch screen. This usually works fine, however when i close the laptop lid and reopen it, the touch screen stops working.
I have to disable then re enable the driver in device manager to make it work again.
I have tried 'allow this device to wake the computer' as that was the only suggestion i could find on the web, but this does not work.
Any ideas?
Thanks

How is it possible for my facebook account to be reactivated after years of being closed? I just received 2 updates from people out of the blue in years since I closed my account. WTF does facebook just keep people account info for kicks after requesting it be deleted? How is this possible?

Answer:What the heck facebook? Account reopened after years of being closed?

I had to create a FB account once for the sole purpose of attending a photography competition whereby you were supposed to publish your stuff via FB.

So I restarted my machine, rebooted my router to get a new IP, cleaned stuff with ccleaner.

Then I made a burner e-mail with no ties or hints about myself.
In the Facebook form, I provided as much gibbrish data as I could. Different password, different username. Burner e-mail. Published absolutely nothing.

First login - lo and behold: "people you may know" - a former work colleague from years ago staring at me from the screen.

Hello.

I think my computer is very screwed. Whenever I do a scan with Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware. It always shows up with some sort of virus or spyware in my regkey. Some of the viruses shown are in the topic description.

My computer used to have a virus where the background changed into a huge warning sign and said I had a malicious spyware. But after a scan with Malwarebyte's anti-malware it got rid of it. But it appears it did not get rid of all traces of the virus.
Before the scan i used spybot search and destroy and it found one trace of virtumode.dll

I just did another scan of MBAM and it shows viruses. Going to Clean it up now. But is there a way to permanently get rid of the Vundo virus? Thanks.

Hello and thank you for the help in advance,

I recently had a virus and i am having a little trouble with SpySweeper with A/V now. My specifics on the remainder of the virus is in a different post (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic225314.html) but I thought it best to put this here to make sure it isn't a different problem.

Problems

1.) SpySweeper will not connect to the internet to validate my product code or to update (this is not just spysweeper, Kaspersky Internet Security 09 nor AVG will either).

2.) Sweeps take 50+ hours.

What I've done:

I've reinstalled the program 3 times to no avail

I've also tried looking for hidden things in the SpySweeper folder (along with other folders).
All help is greatly appreciated, thank you!

I am moving yhis to the Am I Infected forum for the scans..Some types of malware will disable MBAM and other security tools. If MBAM will not install, try renaming it.Before saving any of your security programs, rename them first. For example, before you save Malwarebytes', rename it to something like MBblah.exe and then click on Save and save it to your desktop. Same thing after you install it. Before running it, rename the main executable file first***Right-click on the mbam-setup.exe file and change the .exe extension to .bat, .com, .pif, or .scr and then double-click on it to run.If after installation, MBAM will not run, open the Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware folder in Program Files, right-click on mbam.exe and change the .exe as noted above. Then double-click on it to run..***Another work around is by not using the mouse to install it, Just use the arrow keys, tab, and enter keys.***Open up command prompt, type in following commands: XP >> click the Start menu at the lower-left of your computer's desktop and select "Run". Question: Browser won't work

I have Earthlink Total Access installed with Parental Control. I want to remove Parental Control including Surf Monkey SMProxy.exe as it stops my browser from working when EL Task Panel is closed and Norton Liveupdate will not work at all. Running XP and IE 7.0. How can I remove Surf Monkey? The SurfMonkey doesn't show up in the Hijack This file but it is in the WinnT surfmonkey file. If I remove it from the WINNT file in program files, I cannot acces the internet. I did not try deleting it. I merely moved it to the desktop. Can I just delete the sufmonkey file in WINNT?

I've read on the internet of users that removed PUP's with malwarebytes and their brwoser did not work anymore!
Must I be afraid of removing PUP's?

Answer:browser does not work after malwarebytes?

A Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP) is a very broad threat category which can encompass any number of different programs to include those which are benign as well as problematic. Thus, this type of detection does not always necessarily mean the file is malicious or a bad program. PUPs in and of themselves are not always bad...many are generally known, non-malicious but unwanted software usually containing Adware or bundled with other free third-party software to include toolbars, add-ons/plug-ins and browser extensions. PUPs are considered unwanted because they can cause undesirable system performance or other problems and are sometimes installed without the user's consent since they are often included when downloading legitimate programs. PUPs may also be defined somewhat differently by various security vendors and may or may not be detected/removed based on that definition. That fact adds to confusion and a lot of complaints from end users asking why a detection was not made on a particular file (program) they are having issues with.Malwarebytes: What are the 'PUP' detections, are they threats and should they be deleted?Sophos: Potentially unwanted applicationsMicrosoft: How Microsoft antimalware products identify potentially unwanted softwareLavasoft: What are Potentially Unwanted Programs (PUPS)?Eset: Potentially Unwanted Application? - Eset Online Scanner FAQs #15: What are Potentially Unwanted Applications? How Microsoft antimalware products identify potentially unwante... Every time something that is used by Quicktime is on my screen, all I see if a blank screen with a question mark in it like so:

I've installed it, deleted it, re-installed it, tried different browsers and I just can't view anything in quicktime. I'm using Windows XP> Most recent version of Firefox, so I just don't get it.

Please help me figure out why this isn't working. It is installed and running properly on my computer, meaning, I can open up the little Quicktime icon and watch a movie on the Quicktime site. Just not any videos on my browser.

...at a certain location?

At my school on their WiFi, Chrome can authenticate through the web portal to get online easily, then once I start to browse, it gets slower and slower until pages stop loading alltogether.

If I open up IE or Firefox, everything is consistently snappy no matter what.

I have already done a full "Revo Uninstaller" uninstall of Chrome (dev build btw) and there was no change.

Really odd part is that this only happens at school on their WiFi...

Very odd issue, any ideas? (netbook in sig)

Hello,

I have HP dv6 3022ss with built in windows 7, previously i had installed Chrome which worked fine for like 2 months but it started giving me problems like when i launch Chrome, my the start menu button and tray icons stops responding but after some time i ge the controls back it started to get on my nerves i removed Chrome installed firefox and with this broswer I encounter a new problem when I try to enter a URL it gets stuck, I removed it too installed, Opera and found the same problem. However the IE is working fine but I really do not want to use IE.

Immediate help is required.

Thanks in advance.

Answer:None of my Internet browser work except IE

While awaiting solution to your problem, you can try portable versions of Firefox and/or Opera, which don?t require installation and should not come in conflict with any other apps. You can even run them from a USB flash drive and take them with you. They don?t leave personal info on the computer.

Ok, here is the problem: I can connect to the Internet through compuserve. Running win ME OS. I had to update explorer to 6.01 something plus SP1 to get it to work. No problem there. After a few weeks my browser stopped working. I can still get email. I can download updates to Norton AV. However, when initiating explorer the screen reads it can not connnect. It starts with opening page, then the error message. Settings are fine. I can not do an IPCONFIG using run from the start menu. The screen pops up for a nanosecond then disappears. Trying to get to windows update tells me that a search can not be preformed and then the error message. I suspect a virus or spyware.

I have run Adaware SE with updated definitions. I have run the latest stinger. My Norton AV appears to be fine.

Any ideas what the problem could be?

and that I'm to check with my service provider to enable the browser.
Digicel (service provider) has sent this over 15 times and still no success I cant get on to the browser at all to select options or got o or so forth.

It's a bold 9000 and I've checked the time, did battery pulls, wipe the phone, update the OS to version 5 and still no success.

I can use BBM on my plan and check emails so the plan works and opera mini works on wifi but not on plan, the browser doesn't work at all.

I may have two separate problems... not sure.

Problem 1:
My internet explorer is not working. I open it and it says unable to display page. I've done the obvious... restart, check wireless signals, connections, etc. My Mozilla browser does work.

Problem 2:
Ok- now my mozilla does NOT work. I was using the internet, and Mozilla started downloading addons. I hit cancel b/c I didn't want them. Ever since I hit 'cancel'...Mozilla won't work. Once again, it is not a connection problem.. I have excellent signal and have tried the obvious. I tried to re-download the add-ons and the box says 'finish'... I click it and the box disappears.. but it doesn't actually finish.

So now both browsers don't work!!
Any ideas??

If I include IE in my Startup group, it hangs up with just a blank page displayed and even Task Manager won't stop it. However if I don't include it in Startup, it starts perfectly well if I then start it manually from the icon.

The same applies to any other browser which I include in the Startup group.

Any ideas? Is there a process that is not starting properly?

I'm running 32-bit Vista with all the latest updates. In case it is relevant, my antivirus is Trend-Micro Titanium, and I also have Rapport though I did try uninstall that and it made no difference.

Answer:Browser won't work in startup

Hello Telford and welcome , i betcha one of the services is on an auto delay type start up and is affecting the browser from starting up properly. You could look in your services and check what they are set for, or, just let the computer start up normally and then click your browser and start your browsing at that point.
When a computer is starting up, alot of processes are started , and some startup programs for example like your antivirus need the internet to acquire its updates . Microsoft also is checking for updates. Alot of stuff is going on that require the internet to let some of those programs fully load and be ready to protect your computer , before you start browsing.
Personally, i let my computer get things straight , then i just click and go.
Just a thought, hope this helps you to some degree.

My pc has been freezing since Sunday night. Apparently I either clicked or downloaded something that had a virus in it, something I clicked on opened up my itunes, and then I closed it, shortly after that my pc froze and forced me to hard boot it. I hit the reboot key and it froze again, it was to the point where I had repeatedly hit the reboot key and all my pc would do was freeze. So finally I was able to (very quickly before it froze again) get into msconfig and run it in safe mode.

I ran cleanup.exe, restarted it, then restarted in regular mode, the pc seemed to be working for a few minutes and then it froze again. So the next morning I ran avg scan on it, it found some medium threat spyware, I deleted that and ran cleanup again; I got back into regular mode and was able to open up my browser (I use Firefox), when I tried to do a search and clicked on the search results (I was looking for a tech support forum oddly enough), instead of taking me to the site I clicked on, it opened up a new tab and took me to a search site. This happened 3 or 4 times before I manually had to copy the url and post it in the address box. Then none of the sites I entered would load, and then it froze yet again.

So last night a friend came over and we tried to get rid of whatever we thought might be causing it, because I was searching in google when this happened. It looked like something had hijacked my google toolbar and my browser. I had also been previously using Azeurus (aka Vuze), so ... Read more

I tried to restore the system to a time prior to the problem but that won't work either. So far i've been unable to download programs that might help, like spybot. I'm about to yank this harddrive and cannibalize the backup from my sons very old machine so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:browser & downloads won't work

Would you try renaming the MBAM installer to somethiing like whit.com

If already installed you might have to redownload

You can go into the program folder and rename the main executable mbam.exe

C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

You will have to click on it to start

I recently received my friend's laptop to fix for him. Evidentally he's been screwing around on the internet and got himself infected somehow (or so i'm presuming). Anyway, I'm completely stumped on this one. The laptop shows that it's fully connected to the internet, but when trying to access web pages via a web browser, it says page cannot be found. Hi, I'm not sure if this is the right forum to post this in, but facebook looks really weird, like it doesn't show any images, and when I try to log in, nothing happens. The Mozilla start page looks similar, but I don't know if it's related. I attached a screenshot so you can see what it looks like. I really don't even know where to start to try and fix it. I'm running WinXP Media Center SP3.

Answer:Facebook doesn't work in any browser.

What security software are you running? That is the only page that does that? What about another browser?

About a week or so ago, I noticed that my Firefox back buttons weren't working. When you click the back button, it briefly flashes the previous page on the screen, then reloads the page you were on to begin with (when you clicked the back button.)

I thought it might be a problem with Firefox, so I uninstalled it, thinking I would reinstall it. So, I opened up Google Chrome and tried to download and reinstall Firefox. It downloaded fine, but then wanted me to choose between continuing as current user or as administrator (needs a password). If I enter my admin password, it won't accept it and says it's wrong. If I choose to continue as current user, the window closes and it doesn't install Firefox.

So, at this point, Chrome was not having the same problem so I figured no big deal. I'll just use Chrome. But later that same day it started doing the same thing. (Also, IE is also replicating all the same issues, both with the back button and not being able to install FF.

Yesterday I was looking around my control panel, etc, thinking maybe a setting somewhere had gotten changed and I noticed that the back buttons in those windows don't work either!! For example, if I click on Control Panel, and then click on, say, Administrative Tools, then the back button lights up. However, if I click on it, it tries to go back to the main control panel menu but then returns to Administrative tools.

Hi,
My browser wont work my router. It works sometimes, but mostly it doesnt.
My email doesnt seem to be affected, only browsing.
Can anyone help?
Thank you,
Nell

Answer:Browser wont work with my router

Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please.

Name of your ISP (Internet Service Provider).
Make and exact model of the broadband modem.
Make and exact model and hardware version of the router (if a separate unit).
Model numbers can usually be obtained from the label on the device.
Connection type, wired or wireless.
If wireless, encryption used, (none, WEP, WPA, or WPA2)
Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP (Home or Pro), SP1-SP2-SP3, Vista (Home, Business, Ultimate), etc.
The Internet Browser in use, IE, Firefox, Opera, etc.

Please give an exact description of your problem symptoms, including the exact text of any error messages.

If you're using a wireless connection, have you tried a direct connection with a cable to see if that changes the symptoms?
For wireless issues, have you disabled all encryption on the router to see if you can connect that way?
Have you connected directly to the broadband modem to see if this is a router or modem/ISP issue?
If there are other computers on the same network, are they experiencing the same issue, or do they function normally?

On any affected computer, I'd also like to see this:

I had a previous thread about Firefox not installing. Along with that problem I mentioned IE9 is not connecting to the internet or the search function is not working.
When I open IE 9 the MSN web page is there. If I enter anything in the bing search box I get a page that says, "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage." I did the diagnose connection problems and nothing came up.
Can I uninstall 9 and go back to 8?

Answer:IE 9 browser does not work connecting to internet

Good news, I uninstalled IE 9 and went back to 8. Works o.k, search connecting to internet using dogpile but Bing is not working. IE 8 works. IE9 does not work for me.

I just got a Lenovo U530 touh a few days ago, and when you first start up a broswer (any browswer) it seems fine... but if you use the touchscreen you can't use the trackpad or mouse anymore. Like, the mouse will disappear and won't be allowed on the screen. You can see it when you go to the menu at the bottom, but when you try to bring it onto the browser it disappears. Does anyone know why this is, and if I can change that?

I was surfing the web when suddenly I lost connection to all websites. I wasn't doing any high-risk surfing at the time. None of my browsers connect. Other protocals work, as programs like Skype and Bittorrent are working. Also, other computers on my home wireless network can connect to the web just fine.

I tried reverting to yesterday's restore point, but that didn't correct the problem. This is pretty strange. Any ideas? Thanks...

get my browser to search ?when putting in the actual address it will take you to the page, when doing any type of search, it redirects to radome sites.

Answer:no browser/ search engine will work.

You're web browser has been "hijacked" by malware which causes constant re-directs when you search. You need to "beef up" your online security with a decent anti-malware software like Norton Internet security. Many of the free ones just aren't good enough. But first you need to get rid of this hijacker. Please post on the Virus & Security forum here:http://www.computing.net/forum/secu...

Hello.

My problem is as it follows:

Yesterday everything was fine. I went to bed and left bittorrent running, and I can assure you - the internet explorer was working perfectly.

When I woke up a few hours later, I tried to get onto my email account, with no luck - the browser would run, but no page was displayed without any information message - just a blank screen, with the loading bar on bottom.

Sometimes it gets into google - only google - nothing else.
Oh, and Bittorrent is still running as usual.

Can you help me please?

Hello,

Hopefully I'm posting in the right place. Sorry if not.
The problem is that the standard On Screen Keyboard from windows simply stopped working on browsers, both Chrome and IE. I use it a lot to make quick searches and can't figure out what's happening.
It works fine on notepad or anything else, but not on browsers.
I can open it and click the keys but nothing appears on the box that I selected to type on.
I also noticed that if I restart the system it will work for a while (20 minutes or so) before it stops.
Haven't installed/uninstalled anything before the problem started.
Help is much appreciated.

Since yesterday, when I boot up and start my browser it only stays online for ten minutes. After that, I get error messages from any site I try to go on saying that it can't be connected to. When I reboot, it works fine again, but only for ten minutes. email continues to work fine and all my settings for my dsl connection appear to be unchanged.

Can anyone tell me what could be going on here? I've done a spy scan and a virus check. My windows firewall was turned off. I have since turned it on as an experiment.

Answer:Browser wont work after ten minutes

Well, I don't know why it worked but, apparently turning on the firewall seems to have solved the problem. It could be due to the fact that I normally use zonelabs, and it had been opening with an error message for quite some time. But, who knows?
