Wifi connection issue with laptop

Question: Wifi connection issue with laptop

Hello
I'm currently experiencing an on-going issue with my laptop. I randomly lose connection to the internet multiple times a day, once this happens my laptop then fails to pick up any signals whatsoever. If I'm listening to something or watching a video, the sound will start to skip and crash when this happens and the cursor will also skip around the screen.
I know the issue is not the internet/modem because it's only started doing this recently, sometimes it happens after 5 minutes...other times it can go an hour without happening. I also have other devices connected to my internet so again, I know that the internet is fine. If I turn the laptop off and back on again, the internet is working fine, but can go off again at any time, so I know the issue is with the laptop, especially with it not picking up any connections at all when it happens, not just mine.
Anybody had any issues with this? I can't seem to find anything online that is of similar situation, it seems to be an issue with the laptop but is it a hardware issue or something that can be fixed in the system itself?
It's beginning to get really annoying having to constantly restart my laptop just to get the internet back on for maybe 20 minutes, especially when I have work to do.
Thank you.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Wifi connection issue with laptop

Are you connected by Ethernet or Wireless.
And have you tried switching the Modem/router off for 10 seconds and then on again to see if that clears it.

I have a Dell Vostro 3700 32 bit running Windows 7 Professional and recently been having intermittent issues with its wifi connectivity.
Although the laptop's wifi scans and detects my wireless router (which is located in my downstairs room, whilst I am upstairs in my bedroom) showing signal strength as Fair, Good or Excellent at times it is unable to connect to it giving the error message "wireless was unable to connect to..."
If I take my laptop in the same room as where the wireless router is located then it connects instantly without issue, however, when I take it upstairs that is when it has issues connecting even though the network is visible in the wireless network connection list.

The Wireless router itself that is located downstairs works fine, as I do not have any such connectivity issues whilst in my bedroom with other devices like my phone and tablet which connect with excellent signal strength from the same room I have been having intermittent issues with my laptop.

Connecting via Ethernet has no issues whatsoever.

I have tried the following but to no avail.

netsh winsock reset
netsh int ip reset
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
ipconfig /flushdns

Below is ipconfig/all when not able to connect to the wireless router even though it appears in the available network connections list

Although I am connected to our wireless network on the Folio 13, there is no internet connection. I can, however, connect to the internet via Wifi on two other household laptops, both of them HP, so I believe the problem is with the Folio itself. I can also connect to other computers on the network on the Folio, but something is preventing it from getting on the internet. I can only get the internet via hardwired ethernet connection on the Folio. I have tried the following fixes, multiple times, without success: -Run the Windows troubleshooter for Internet/Network. It says the connection between your access point, router, or cable modem and the internet is broken. (But not on other wifi computers here--works fine.)-Reboot/Reset the modem.-Disable/Renable the wifi adapter (Intel Centrino Wireless N 1030)-Update wifi adapter driver (it says driver is up to date)-Uninstall/reinstall wifi adapter-Remove Wifi Network from list of available networks; reboot, add this network back in-Roll back all Windows updates from the past month-Searched self-help forums for a possible solution And yes, the wifi keyboard light is blue, not orange. Can someone help please?

I have issues connecting my Laptop to the Wifi router in my house, however, there are no issues connecting to other routers? You would therefore assume that the issue lies with the router at my house. However, every other device and laptop connects to the router at my house with no issues at all. So it seems to be specific to the combination of my laptop and the router at my house. I have been having these issues ever since I downloaded Windows 10. I fixed it initially by downloading an old driver for the Wifi on my laptop. This fix lasted for about 3 months but since the latest windows update, the issue has come back. The issue is intermittent wifi where it shows I am connected to the Wifi but then the internet doesn't work. It says "DNS probe cannot be found" when running troubleshooter and then it resets the wifi on my laptop. This can temporalily fix it, sometimes for 2 seconds. Sometimes for 2 hours. But then the issue comes back. Does anyone have any clue what the issue might be or how I might fix it? Sometimes, when I run the troubleshooter, it says that I have missing protocols. But then this doesn't happen every time. I have tried a variety of fixes that I have read up on in forums but none seem to work permantly. One thing I haven't tried is a clean install of windows 10 which is something I am very reluctant to do and also, have my doubts as to whether it would actually resolve the issue.
Many thanks,
Joe

Answer:Wifi issue specific to my laptop and home wifi

It all depends on location, location, location. Some Gateways are just garbage. If you are not getting a strong enough signal, get an Access Point. Also you need to make sure that you are not on a congested channel, which is usually Channels 6 & 11 for 2.4 Ghz units.

I have the x220 Thinkpad and am currently studying in Florence, Italy. I have been able to connect to the internet in my apartment for several weeks without problem until today when my computer told me there were no connections available. This is clearly not the case, as I have been able to access the internet on my iphone and my roommates have had no problem with the connection. When I try the troubleshooting techniques, it tells me to plug an ethernet cable into my computer and the router. I am not sure why I would suddenly need to do this after weeks of internet use without this being the case.  What can I do to fix this problem? Currently, I do not have access to the router because it is not located in my unit and the people around me do not speak enough English to be of any help. Also, I do not have an ethernet cable. Thanks, Keith

Hope someone can help, or shed some light on this problem.

Basically I recently bought a WIFI dongle to use in my desktop tower PC running Windows 7.

My Router (Netgear DGN2000) is downstairs but shows up on my wirless access points list with 4 bars. I am able to connect but after a few minutes it randomly loses the connection and in most cases fails to see the router again for some time. I then reconnect and the same thing happens again.

I can connect using my Ipod, phone and Laptop in the same room with no drops in the connection.

So I'm wondering if this is an issue with the dongle or Windows 7.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:WIFI Connection Issue...

I've seen a lot a issues similar to yours in the Networking Forum, Matski. So it may be a problem with the WiFi connection.

Up until the other day I had no problems connecting with my laptop to the local wifi network. Now it won't let me, even though the network still shows up as available. I am able to access it from my other devices (iPad and iPhone) so I know the network is good. I can't reset the router because it is publicly used. I'm not savvy with IP address and all that so any help or ideas would be appreciated. So far I have reset the computer and cycled the wireless on and off on the computer. Thank you

Answer:Wifi connection issue

Is it asking for a password? (Hopefully it is...) Any message that comes up once you try to connect would be helpful. Ask the people who admin the router for details re: passwords and protocols.

Hello Guys,

I am experiencing an issue with my brand new laptop i bought this week.

Every time i turn on my laptop and it has finished loading to the main desktop screen, i try to connect to wifi and it will never connect? It also fails to diagnose the issue. However, if i plug in my wifi dongle and try it will work!? I can then remove the dongle and it will work perfectly fine until i next use the computer.

I am using a Sony VAIO NW20EF

Any other information required please ask as i am looking to resolve this asap.

I'm working on my brothers computer and have encountered a strange issue: the WiFi is losing connection after approx. 10 minutes (with or without activity).

He was having some connectivity issues (could connect to a network but not browse the internet) and I disabled the LMHOST file use and that issue was solved.

Figuring something got in to his machine, I uninstalled Norton and installed BitDefender instead. It caught and cleaned a few questionable cookies and I deleted some files associated with a trojan (don't remember the specific name other than it seemed very generic).

I then noticed his WiFi would lose connection with my router after approx 10 minutes. After losing connection, I would be unable to reconnect until I reboot the computer. I setup a hotspot on my mobile and experienced the same issue. The hardwired LAN connection is working fine.

Trying to trace it back to a Windows or hardware issue, I booted into a live distribution of Linux and setup networking. The WiFi has worked fine for the last several hours and I've been able to manually disconnect and reconnect with no problems.

Figuring the radio is good and it's a Windows issue, I did some digging around and have updated his WiFi drivers (Broadcom) and disabled power-save mode for the radio. Still experiencing the same issue. As I write this, I have the computer (Compaq CT10 netbook) booted in Safe Mode now and... still having the same issue. I'm not quite sure where to go from h... I just joined so sorry if this is in the wrong place!!
My brother has a desktop only it cannot detect the wifi when it's only a meter away! It's in a open room so there no thick walls in the way. In rare cases it will connect but it's not great. I asked my friend about it and he thinks it could be a software issue.
I'm now questioning whether it's worth buying a Pcle wifi card because if it is a software issue then a new wifi card won't help.
Does anyone know what is going on?

Hi all,I have a Lenovo IdeaPad Y50-70. The issue is explained in the following paragraph.I can see the list of connections available. I can see the different ranges of the WiFi network. When I select the connection, it gives command button of "Connect". After that the laptop is not connected to the wifi network. I ran troubleshoot, which asks me to select a wifi network. I selected the wifi connection, still it feels like the command is not registered.I have done multiple restarts. I have disabled and re-enabled the wifi driver. Even restarted my wife router. I even tries to connect to my mobile hotstop. The issue is still consistent.Have you had this similar issue? If not please share your experience. I consider myself generally pretty knowledgeable about computers in general but these issues have me stumped.

The first problem with my laptop (HP Pavilion DV6, Windows 7) Is that the physical wireless adapter button is broken. In the off position. My first question is, is there any way to turn it back on without the button?

My second problem is that, because I have no wireless internet, I attempted to use an internet cable to plug into the wall internet at home and at school. Guess what, total failure. It says it is connected locally, but no internet connection. I tested the cable on other comps, it is good. The wall internet works fine on other computers. Obviously the wireless internet isn't interfering because its stuck on disabled. What whats the problem??

Answer:Issue with Ethernet connection and WiFi

This might work to turn on the wireless.

Open Network and Sharing Center
In the left pane click Manage Network Connections.
Right Click your Wireless Connection to pull up the Options box.
Should show "Enable" at the top. Click.
What does an IPCONFIG /ALL show for the wired connection?

From a JohnWill post.
Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista or 7 type CMD in the Search box after Start)

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

I got a used HP 2000 laptop recently. I was able to connect to my home WiFi, but it kept dropping and saying "Limited Connection" or "No Internet Connection". I have the latest drivers for my network adapters.  Could this be caused by a faulty Wifi card? Could I get a replacement for the wifi card?

When I download a large amount of content via iTunes, my Spectre x360 drops the wifi connection after a short time.  I haven't had the connection drop during other tasks, such as viewing webpages or streaming video--only using iTunes.  After 30 seconds or a minute, the laptop is always able to restore the connection but if I try to download iTunes content again it will again drop off wifi.     When I bring my laptop to work and use the wifi there, this issue doesn't come up at all and there is no wifi dropping when downloading content or updating apps.  That would suggest a problem with my home wifi network correct?  Well, I called RCN and they rebooted my router and troubleshooted with me to no avail.  I restarted the router myself which also did not solve the problem. Another wrinkle is that the Macbook Pro I have does not have this same problem with my home wifi and I'm able to update a ton of apps without an interruption in the signal.  Does anyone know what might be going on?  I generated a wlan report from the command prompt which showed the interruptions, but not very specific info about what went wrong.  There appeared to be no hardware issues.  I'm still within a 30 day return window, but I feel that there is a simple solution to this that I'm missing.  That and I otherwise really like this computer and spent a ton of time setting it up.   Thanks in advance.

Mach: L530 (bought year 2013)OS: Windows 8 64bitWifi device is: 1x1 b/g/n wireless LAN PCI Express Half mini. (I think from RealTek) I have below problem with wifi connectivity. When I switch-on the wifi and connect to SSID, for the very first time the connection wouldn't go through. The status will stuck for some time in "Identifying..." and then after a minute or so, the connection is established however the status will be "limited".If I switch off wifi, restart broadband modem and connect again for second time, now the connection will be fine.Very rarely wifi connection is ok in the first time (say 1 in 100 times). Sometimes connecting second time too fails and a third time re-connection process is required. Now here are some other facts:1. The same broadband modem is there with me for years.2. My other laptop (HP and Windows 7) had no problem what so ever.3. Same with my iPhone. No issues faced with connection. When I try connecting the L530-win8 machine first and it goes to "Limited" state, in that state I could not connect other working devices (my other laptop and iPhone). This means that the connection attempt by L530-win8 is screwing up something in the broadband modem rendering other devices not be able to connect to the modem. I have zeroed the fault to be either in L530 or Win8.Just wondering whether the issue to be something to do with the wifi adapter / driver? Any known issues?

I was on windows 7 and my WIFI connection was fine, but when I installed windows 10 it become like fade out sometimes, when Im still connected to my network WIFI just stop to recieve information, and this happens really often, about 2 times in 5 minutes.
I got ZyXEL G-202 EE adapter, there is no drivers for windows 10, last drivers was released for windows 7, I managed to install windows 7 drivers, but there appeared this issue. WIFI working fine on other devices, and therefore I guess it is windows 10 issue, maybe I configured it wrong? Any solution for this?

Greetings all, new user here.
I am having a WiFi/connection problem.
I'm using an older (reconditioned) Dell Latitude C640 laptop with a Intel Pro/wireless LAN 2100 3B mini pci adapter, running Win XP Pro SP3.
What's happening is that I am able to connect to the wireless network, (and I have tried this with several different wireless networks) I get a good connection; good signal, good strength. However, when I open my browser, either IE or Firefox, I get a "no internet connection found" message. This also occurs with Yahoo Messenger. When I connect via tether, everything works fine.
When I first got the laptop, I had no problems with the WiFi at all, then I started getting a ZeroConfgSvc message. That's when this problem began. I have had the adapter checked out, and there appears to be no hardware issue.
Please tell me what you need to know and what, if anything I can do to repair this problem.
Thanks!

Helped a client of mine set up their computers at their new house. They have one of those HP TouchSmart all in one PCs with a built in wifi adapter. It originally came with Vista, but they installed Windows 7 on it at some point. When attempting to connect to their wireless network, Windows kept throwing an error indicating that it could not connect to the network. The troubleshooter said it was an error with the router. The password was correct and everything worked in their old house (different wireless router).

Here's what I tried:

- Disabled all security on the router
- Tried a different USB wireless adapter, disabled built in wifi
- Connected one of their old wireless routers (Netgear) to their gateway (Xfinity Arris tg862) and set it up as an access point. I changed the wireless SSID on the Arris and made it hidden since you can't disable wifi on it (WTF?). All devices could see this network and connect to the internet, but I was getting the same error on their computer, but this leads to the next point...
- Their computer WOULD connect to the new wireless network on the Netgear as long as the router was not connected to the Arris.

Yesterday I was temporarily able to get the computer to connect to the network, but once it connected, it would drastically slow down everything else on the network. I had "ping -t google.com" running on a second computer and I observed response times go from ~30ms to ~3500ms as soon as this computer co... Read more

Answer:Really weird Windows 7 wifi connection issue

Not following what you are trying to do. If you are having problems connecting to the router with the computer, first thing you should be doing is removing the driver for the networking adapter, remove any other plug in USB adapters, then let Windows 7 find the default Windows 7 driver, or check at http://www8.hp.com/us/en/support-drivers.html for the Windows 7 driver.

As for slowing down the network, you probably were packet flooding it, by having multiple adapters connecting to it from the same computer.

Hi guys. Bit of a "first world problem" here i know but it is slightly irritating and really would appreciate any help

There is 2 computers and 2 virgin superhubs in the house i live in (not both mine) both ethernet connected. Occasionally i have to unplug my superhub and connect my desktop computer to the Wifi on the other hub which is in the next room.

My computer obviously "remembers" the password for the wifi and i used to be able to just unplug my hub and it would automatically connect to the wifi without me having to do anything.

Since switching to Windows 10, when i unplug my hub, it says that it is connected to the wifi however it says "limited" and no websites work, effectively not connected even though it says it is.

To solve it i have to leave my hub unplugged and restart my computer and it connects instantly and works. Whilst that isn't a huge problem, i sometimes could do without having to save what i'm doing just to restart the computer as i have never had to do this before.

The same problem also occurs in reserve if you get me. Disconnecting the Wifi and then plugging in the hub, it also says limited connection until i restart the comp. Virgin Media have been of no help whatsoever, to be honest I didn't expect them to be as it seems like a computer/windows problem.

Any help please on how to fix this? Thanks in advance

Answer:Switching from ethernet connection to Wifi issue

One thing I've had better luck with is using a Network Switch for Ethernet connections between computers and the Router.

Something I did the other day was install a Range Extender, this one in fact:
Amazon.com: D-Link Wireless AC1200 Dual Band Wi-Fi Gigabit Range Extender Accessories
It improved reception of the Blu-Ray device with NetFlix they use, gives a better signal for watching movies, should work with a computer's Wi-Fi. I put it about half way between the Router and the TV [2 walls between the Router and TV].

i have a lenovo idea pad that will connect to wifi but says limited connection. i can use the iternet via ethernet cable with no issues. My ISP is comcast and i have one of their modems that came with wifi im guessing it doubles as a router seeing i direct connect to it with my laptop. however my wifi works for my xbox one, a nexus 7 tablet a xbox 360 ,a printer and two smartphones with no issues what so ever. they are not all on at once so max connections shouldnt be a issue. ive spent hours on the phone with comcast and they insist its the laptop and not the wifi any ideas on how to go about fixing the issue. ive checked the drivers and their up to date then uninstalled and reinstalled still no luck. i use firefox for browsing and AVG for antivirus

Is this using the AVG firewall as well? It could be blocking access. If so, read the help files on how to allow.

I have two printers one of them is HP Laser Jet MFP M175NW Color. Second printer is Samsung SCX 3405W. Both printers have WIFI built in.

I am using Win 8 all in one HP Desk Top

I upgraded to comcast Blast bought new Netgear DOCIS 3.0 modem and Dual Giga Bite N600 Netgear Router. Since, than HP Laser Jet can not connect WIFI. The other Samsung Printer connected fine.

I re-installed Win 8, changed the modem to Motorola SBG 6580 gateway with built in Router. Same problem, Samsung Printer connects fine, but HP laser jet does not. Blue WIFI light blinks on HP Laser Jet also then installing the printer it says Product Found but stuck on 15% installation bar. There is no problem connecting printer with USB or Ethernet.

Before, upgrade to Comcast Blast there was no problem connecting HP with WIFI.

I know this because my sisters who have various laptops running can maintain a connection no troubles, where as mine cannot.I've updated drivers and run every troubleshooting thing I could find on my laptop, to no avail. If I can't have a stable connection to game then this laptop is useless to me. Hi All,

I am struggling to get the wifi to work...well only with some devices. I am tecchie enough to know that I have an odd problem, but not tecchie enough to solve it. I have the latest MS available Win 8 installed on the lappie (M18xr2 fully loaded, including Bigfoot 1103).

Firstly I couldn't install the Win 7 Bigfoot drivers from Dell as it indicates that the hardware is not supported in this version of Windows. I have managed to get drivers installed via an update and search for drivers.

Everything looks like it ought to work, with the exception that I have one "Other Device - Unknown device flag in Control Panel. That being said, I think that might be for the free fall sensor or something non-networky...but I'm not smart enough to be certain about that.

Ignoring the above, I have working wired , and wireless network access to one of my home wifi routers - it all works with these, flawlessly.

Here's the problem though - it refuses to connect to any of the other home wifi routers (different SSID, different password, identical security settings as far as I am aware). It also cannot connect to the wifi via my iphone tethering, which I can connect to with everything else. I also cannot connect to wifi at client sites, which I can via every other route.

Amongst all the fiddling, I have tried disabling firewall in case that was part of the problem, but no dice. Any thoughts? Getting fairly desperate with this as there doesn't seem to be much discussi... Read more

I have another laptop and other WiFi-enabled devices which can connect to the WiFi source even at long distances. Hi, haven't been here for a long time! I'm currently having a problem with using WiFi on Windows 8. I can't seem to connect to the internet at all over WiFi. Previously I randomly had issues where my internet connection would randomly drop off. After trying to reset TCP/IP and reinstalling the network drivers I found I could not connect over the internet at all. Ethernet works perfectly fine, but I don't have an Ethernet connection to run to the room I use my laptop in. Does anyone have any ideas? I have an Acer Aspire 7736g with an Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN according to Device Manager.

Answer:i have lost my wifi connection to my laptop

It depends on the "range" capability of the wireless adapter within the laptop.Yours evidently has a better coverage range than your wife's, so your signal strength is higher than hers. Her wireless performance will have been further affected by the simple fact that it's now having to compete with another user on the same network.

hi I have a dell laptop 1545 that is now running windows 8 for a week and been great, 100% with no issues from a new clean install...
however today grandchild was pressing keys on it, and it think he pressed the F2 off key
I have chacked various forums and it seems that either F2 or Fn+F2 switches it back on, sometimes if you hold it down for 30 sec to a min
this isn't working
ive checked the hardware and it says the cards are working properly...
is it something to do with the fact the laptop used to run Vista and dell software, now its been upgraded to windows 8 these f2 functions don't work?
if that's the case why does it seem its switched it off?
I see the internet connection in the start tray with greyed out with "not connected- connections available" why is this so hard?

Hi all,

Ever since I updated to Windows 10, my laptop struggles to hold a strong connection (sometimes any connection at all) to my Virgin Media router. Even if I am sitting in the same room as my router, the connection is weak and often disconnects, with a connection holding for anywhere between a few minutes and a few seconds. Hello All, I need some help. Googling has not been able to let me solve this alone, so I am coming here to find an expert. My laptop cannot now connect to wifi. It used to be able to and everything was fine, then the internet company updated the wifi we receive to a 5GHz connection and the laptop cannot even detect it. It can see the modem/router and it can let me type in the password but it can't connect now, I think it is because it is only the old connection it sees and this may now be deactivated by the internet company, but I am not sure. A bit of Googling tells me that it may be something to do with a G or N connection (think this is an N one) and I went to the Acer website, found another WLAN driver, uninstalled the old Broadcom one, installed the new Atheros one and it still won't connect. Does anyone have a fix to this? If my laptop, which is not even a year old, cannot connect to any wifi, it's basically useless as I can't use an ethernet cable when I go on holiday. I do not know how to find out, exactly, what wifi adapter is in the laptop. The laptop is an Acer Aspire ES1-512-C6XH running Windows 8.1. Like I say, I only got this laptop around Christmas 2014 and up until last week, everything was fine. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

Answer:Laptop can't see 5GHz wifi connection

from what info you provided I would first uninstall the atheros drivers and put the broadcom drivers back in as they are two different chips, if the original driver was broadcom then use that driver only, next, in a lot of laptops the wireless chips are designed to work on the 2.4 ghz frequency only regardless that it reads "N" connection, the 5ghz band is an "A" connection and your wirless chip is likely a "B,G,N" so it will not see the 5ghz band, if you want to use the 5ghz band you would need a different wireless connection ie an usb adapter with an "AC" connection of which would then see the 5 ghz band.B,G,N 2.4 ghz connection is very common to be used as it will connect to pretty much any router connection without having any hassle but speed wise it is slower with a connection range of 72 mbs to 150 mbs but still very useable, an "AC" connection will connect around 400 mbs on the 5 ghz band.Hope this helps you understand.

Hi guys,
Not sure if this has been asked before so I apologise if it has but I'm pretty pressed for time so I appreciate any help.
I got a new HP laptop before Christmas and it works perfectly and connected to my home wifi without any issue.
However when starting my new job in the new year I began to notice that it was having trouble connecting properly to their wifi. My phone is working fine with the wifi as are my colleagues so there is definitely something strange going on with my laptop. I have tried everything in terms on reset ip addresses, manually entering dns, giving my computer a clean boot, running various virus scanners and even succumb to having to completely restore my computer to factory settings and after all that, no joy. It's been 5 days and no change. Is the laptop faulty? If so, why would it work perfectly on my home connection.
Cheers

Answer:New Laptop struggling with WIFI connection

"I began to notice that it was having trouble connecting properly to their wifi."
It is unlikely that there's a hardware fault - if your laptop connects to your home router, it should connect to any router, Presumably it detects your work WiFi router OK?

Hi gurus,

I'm having some problems suddenly with my wifi on my Windows 8.1 machine. This is a desktop PC with a small USB wifi-N adapter from TP-Link.
Every time I boot, it gets only a limited connection with my router. Simply disconnecting and reconnecting solves the issue.

The TCP/IP stack reset doesn't work. It gives me the "access denied" error. I have full permission over the netsh.exe (changed that already) and I run an elevated command prompt.

I have also already unmarked the "allow Windows to turn this device off" option, and also enabled the "allow download over metered connections" option.

This basically has me stranded ...

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I just bought a new laptop a Lenovo ideapad y500 running windows 8 64bit with a intel centrino wireless adapter and im currently experiencing internet flucuations at random intervals.

My internet speed is rated for 50mbs and when im lucky on wifi ill get up to 20mbs. I could generally live with considering wifi is not exactly ideal but the download speeds will often drop to .5-2mbs and at times go to 0 resetting the connection will sometimes bump it back up for a short while but it will again eventually drop down to minimal speeds.

to save time ill state the troubleshooting methods ive already attempted
uninstalled/reinstalled wifi drivers
updated wifi driver
flushed dns cache via cmd.exe
updated other drivers aswell as performed windows updates
uninstalled and replaced mcafee antivirus with avg
ran ccleaner to uninstall bloatware along with fixing registry errors
accessed my router and changed my wireless settings and security settings

my ping has begun to fluctuate aswell normally being around 8-12ms now jumping from 32-120

id also like to clarify that i bought and returned an asus g75 windows 8 laptop a few days ago encountering the same issue i at first thought it was the wireless adapter but now encountering this issue im beginning to question my router which is an actiontec v1000h

I have previously requested help with this problem, and I thought it solved by the generous help from another member, but it would seem it was only a temporary fix, as it is happening again. I am connecting to my homehub via my laptop wirelessly with the aid of a pluscom usb adapter, I have the latest drivers for this adapter installed, the problem is that every now and then, the connection will drop, only for a very short time, but long enough for windows to have to reestablish a connection and reobtain the IP address from dhcp. This is while the windows wireless zero config is handling the connection, whenever I switch over to pluscoms software, I can't get a connection to the internet, it seems to connect to the homehub although I can't bring up the homehub's settings via my web browser (Mozilla FF) or using IE. My connection used to be stable before these problems started and I was using pluscoms software to manage the connection, this is causing a really annoying problem for me because I am unable to play online games such as red alert 2 because the connection is too unstable.

EDIT
forgot to mention, I am able to connect to the internet on my PS3 without any problems, and i have tested the internet connection on my friends laptop which works no problem as well
EDIT

Any help would be much appreciated

Hi everyone,
My ASUS Q302LA laptop which I bought last month has wifi connection issues. Was running fine at work and home, but recently (as last week) began showing that my connection is 'Limited' which makes it pretty useless. No way of connecting to the internet with that.
I've tried:
1. Forgetting the network and reentering my password
2. Restarting the laptop
3. Switching on airplane mode and redoing steps 1 through 2 again.
Nothing seems to help. Also, I know its not my connection either as the laptop I'm using to type this obviously works fine and the other devices and tablets I have work great in regards to wifi connection.
Any ideas how to fix this?

Answer:ASUS Laptop Wifi Connection

Try this:
Open command prompt
Type ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew

Hi all. I have a laptop in my dorm room about less than block away and I have a very weak signal (1 bar or less) and I want to know if I could be able to hook on the net with the this network. I've gotten about 45,000 packets sent to me when I had 1 bar but none were received. This is probably because the signal is so weak. Is there anyway I can increase the network strength? Maybe I can buy something like a router or antenna or something to make it reach the network. I have no idea, I'm new to this stuff. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I have recently moved house to share with someone who has an existing wifi broadband set up. My laptop picked up the connection no problem but his wifi is security protected with a key. My flatmate set up the connection on my laptop for me using the cable connected to the router and has saved the network key on there too. Now my laptop recognises the network, connects to it by default fine with no problems. It then works brilliantly for about the first half hour I use it for each evening and then just stops working. Webpages won't load, I get admin error pages come up or it just goes on loading forever but nothing comes up. When the laptop does this it still says it is connected to the network and that signal strength is full. Oddly I can also pick up a neighbour's unprotected network with a signal strength of only limited which is faster to use once the laptop does this odd fault after the first half hour or so. Any suggestions because I'm stumped!

I am having problems with my laptop, it seems to be 'forgetting' that it has connection to the internet via wifi.

Upon startup it connects automatically, but after a few minutes, when I click on a link on a page nothing happens and a yellow warning sign appears on the wifi icon at the bottom to suggest there is no connection. However upon waving my mouse over this it generally re-connects.

I have tried this at another location with the same issue and other laptops connect fine without interruption.

It is a Toshiba C660 running Windows 7 Home Premium.

Any ideas why is doesn't hold stable?

Thanks

So I was on the interwebs lol and all of a sudden my laptop lost connection. I thought "really? my internet is out again" so I check my phone and the internet is completely fine. So I had to restart my pc to fix the problem. This is like the 2nd or 3rd time this has happened since I've had my pc. What could cause this problem and how do I make sure it never happens again?

Answer:Laptop randomly lost wifi connection?

First off it is the Internet, not Interwebs. Second off is that if you want someone to take your post serious, do not use kiddie terms like LOL.

So you did a Websearch. As for your issue, none of us have any clue what is going on with why our laptop is disconnecting.

Until you post if this is happening on a Public or Private Hotspot, there is really nothing else to tell you. Same as not knowing what Wifi Chipset that your unit has.

Firstly I would uninstall the wireless adapter from device manager and reboot the system , if that doesn't sort it I would then manually update the drivers for the card to see if that makes a difference . Does the laptop use a utility from the manufacturer to make the wireless connection or does it use Vista to see and connect ? Ashley

I have two laptops here at home that I run through a wireless router for my internet. My laptop is a Toshiba Satellite series laptop running Windows Vista and is giving me absolutely no problems whatsoever. My wife's on the other hand is losing connection from the internet about every hour or so. It's not happening at any certain interval but sporadic. When this happens she has to use the Repair my Connection option several times to get the internet back working again. Her laptop is a Sony Vaio running Windows Vista 64 bit.

I wondered to start with if the 64 bit was the problem. I've updated my routers internal software. It's a Netgear wireless router. Anything else I need to add? Help?

Answer:Wifi Worked But No Internet Connection on My Laptop

Because you had McAfee installed you need to use the special uninstall procedure to remove it completely from your system per the link below.
http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?id=TS101331

You may have better luck using WPA2 security with AES encryption rather than the outdated, unsecure and slower WEP security. You can change these settings in the routers control panel.

You appear to have a valid IP here so most likely something is blocking or interfering with the connection.

You will also want to disable the Microsoft virtual adaptor by using the following commands at an elevated command prompt, typed or copy/paste them one at a time hitting enter after each one.

Code:
netsh wlan stop hostednetwork

Code:
netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=disallow

I've had an HP Laptop Pavilion g6 for around a year, operating on Windows 8.1 I'm repreatedly (and increasingly) losing wifi connection to router - all other devices using the same wifi connection (desktop pc, nexus phone, samsung phone) all retain connection and internet access but the Pavilion keeps dropping off. Other related posts on this forum have suggested the issue may be an outdated driver - how do I check that?

Answer:HP Laptop Pavilion g6 - wifi connection dropping out

Hello again Pragmata, It is good to hear from you again! Since the issue continues after you power down the notebook, I also recommend following the steps below to correct this issue: 1. Open DEVICE MANAGER  2. Open up NETWORK ADAPTERS  3. Right click on the WiFi Adapter for the pc and left click on PROPERTIES  4. Click on POWER MANAGEMENT at the top.  5. Remove the check mark beside : ALLOW THE COMPUTER TO TURN OFF THIS DEVICE TO SAVE POWER  6. Click OK  7. Close DEVICE MANAGER and test.     NOTE:  It may also be checked under the FAMILY CONTROLLER (eg. Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller which would be listed under the WiFi Card). If so, you could remove the check mark beside ALLOW THE COMPUTER TO TURN OFF THIS DEVICE TO SAVE POWER. Please re-post with the results of your troubleshooting, and I look forward to your reply!Regards

I've run into a really annoying issue with my Toshiba laptop running Windows 7. It uses the Realtek 8192E wireless NIC.

I recently (in January) ditched my WRT610N router for a Netgear WNDR3700. The WRT610N got hit by a surge in December, and started losing its settings every few days, and needing to be reconfigured from scratch every few days. I'd had it for two years, and never been satisfied with range or speed.

Netgear worked fine at first. I tested it with my desktop machine, which is connected wirelessly (and runs Windows 7) and with my laptop which also runs Windows 7 and connects wirelessly.

A few weeks ago, the laptop started having weird problems.

Intermittently (every 30-60 seconds) a little yellow exclamation mark would appear over the bars showing internet strength, and the laptop wouldn't be able to access *anything*. Then, the exclamation mark would go away, and I'd be able to use it...then 60 seconds later, it would be back, and I'd lose connectivity again.

When it's working, it's slow......it's dropped from getting speeds of about 38 Mbps for file transfer to about 500 Kbps.

Further, consistently, since the problem started occurring, my wife has run into an issue where if she tries logging into Facebook, the laptop will just sit there and read and read and read, but never get in. We can walk away, come back 15 minutes later, and the little icon for IE is still spinning, telling us it's still trying to load the page. Same thing with logging into To... Read more

Hiya. For a while I've been experiencing that my download and upload speeds seem to vary wildly while on my computer, however they always seem to be MUCH lower than on my laptop. When using speedtest.net my laptop tends to average around 25 mbps downloading and 15 mbps uploading. Occasionally my desktop will peak and be slightly better (best I've seen today is 37.55 mbps and 19.03 mbps uploading) but the grand majority of the time it seems to hover at around 5 mbps download and 1 or 2 mbps upload. I don't understand why this is. Things I have tried:
Updating to Windows 10 on desktop (not that I am on my laptop)
Updating the drivers for my TRENDnet 300Mbps Dual Band Wireless N USB Adapter wireless adapter (tried, no need as they're up to date)
Turning off power saving mode (I don't know why this was enabled on a desktop but it was)
Turning off the windows option to "disconnect this device to save power"
Cleaning in the inside of my desktop tower
Changing my IPv4 DNS server values
And I have also tried running a full virus scan, malware scan and uninstalling every program I installed in the last month

And I know it is almost certainly not interference due to the fact that my laptop sits directly above my PC tower, both a whole floor away from the router, and the laptop does okay. For the sake of checking I have tried moving the laptop to a different room but that is not the cause of the problem. In addition to the speedtest.net results ... Read more

I am using an HP Pavilion dv7 with a Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless-N 2230 network adapter trying to connect to the wifi router on campus from my dorm room. The routers are placed in the common areas, so I do not receive a very strong signal in my room, but it works good enough for my Android phone to connect just fine and have a reasonable speed. My laptop on the other hand, which works fine in the common areas with good signals, at times struggles to get internet. I have episodes where I can connect just fine and receive sufficient speed, but then at other times, I connect to the wifi but I cannot connect to the internet. I click Diagnose on the Wireless Network Connection Status, which runs and claims to find an error which is fixed by resetting the wireless adapter. Rarely does this actually fix the problem though. I am curious as to what could be causing this spotty internet connection with my laptop, when my phone always works just fine. Could it be something with HP's default WLAN manager? I read something about updating to Intel's wifi manager but I could not get the update to work with my Windows 7 64-bit OS. Does anyone have some insight that can make my laptop connect better?

One day, my laptop just stopped recognising the network. What I mean is, it is all showing signs of being connected, it just keeps telling me I am not connected to the network! The signal shows four bars, the settings all seem to be right. I have just bought a nano adapter to see if it can help but no. Apart from the network issue, the PC is working fantastically, I just can't see the point of having it if I can't access the network.
Please note. It just stopped one day. Before that it connected to everywhere I would be where there was a network source.
I really hope someone can help.

i have 2 PC's & 1 Laptop. we'll call them PC, BC & LT
the problem is with LT.

PC is connected wirelessly. BC is wired to the router. LT is wireless with Atheros AR5004G built in.
i downloaded this http://pcpitstop.com/store/exterminate.asp on the LT. ran the scan and uninstalled it because it didn't remove the spyware.
after that the LT started acting up. i couldn't search for the word spyware, couldn't click the category 'anti-virus & spyware downloads' @ download.com & couldn't do anything with the word spyware, couldn't even install anti-spyware programs downloaded from the other 2 PC's. Everytime I tried, the browsers [IE, CrazyBrowser & Firefox] would close by themselves. Tried to run scans, but the scanners would close automatically also.

so we thought to do a factory restart restoring it from out of box state. finished that. now it doesn't want to connect to the internet. checked PC & BC to see if they were still able to connect. internet shows up fine except for LT. when LT is connected with the Ethernet cable, Internet is fine; webpages show up. but once disconnected, and using the wifi, internet doesn't show up.

The wifi is ON and I have set the settings on it. WiFi does read the router and says it's Excellent with all the bars lit green. but internet still doesn't show up.

I would be very grateful if someone could suggest how to change the settings in some way so they could both be connected at the same time. I didn't have this problem with old laptop and tablet being connected together so suspect it is something in the Windows 10 one causing the problem. All suggestions would be most welcome.

Just in case anyone else has the same problem: I spoke to both John Lewis and HP and both said they had never heard of this problem and to take the laptop back for a replacement. Router was working perfectly with everything else - laptops, smart phones etc - only problem was with the HP Envy. So I tried it with different router just in case that would save me a trip back to John Lewis and lo and behold it works perfectly. Seems there is some incompatibility issue between Thomson router and HP Envy.
