Preferred Solution: Hard disk drive not found Dell N3050

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Hard disk drive not found Dell N3050

Try putting the drive in an external caddy and connect to another machine or open a desktop machine and connect the drive direct to a spare sata port to see if it can be rcognised.

100 GB hard drive worked well. One day - it stopped.
"Primary hard disk drive 0 not found
No bootable devices..."

No disks in BIOS are shown now

Same story couple months before that was with another 80GB harddisk.
Several files on drive C (FAT) though were corrupted (CHKDSK corrected that)

"Fun" is:
1) Harddisk works fine if placed into desktop PC, no problems with any diagnostics
2) laptop works fine with small size old 4 GB harddrive

Harddrive connector problem???? BIOS problem with nonstandard size harddisks (DELL sold this notebook only with 60 GB max). Old not supported firmware ?

Dell Customer Support after several diagnoistics by phone only suggested to buy ane more disk and check. But I afraid that most probably it will not work

Somethig similar was here (but guy does not respond)

I have a dell inspirion 9100 and I just recently installed a new dvd-ram drive because the old dvd-rw died...
I have a pioneer dvr-k16 and when I boot up it stalls for like 30 seconds now and then flashes "secondary hard disk drive 0 not found". Windows starts up like normal and my drive works, although I've only watched movies so far and haven't tried burning anything. How do I get the error message to go away? I've tried going into setup and that doesn't seem to help anything because I don't know what to do in there. I keep reading on other threads that you have to change the slave to cs or something like that but I have no clue as to how to do any of that or if that would even alleviate my situation. Maybe just a dirty computer? I do have two cats and I have fur balls floating all over the place that I can't seem to get rid of...that's a whole seperate issue of course. HELP?
thanks

Answer:secondary hard disk drive 0 not found on a dell laptop what do I do?

The bios in your laptop was set up to use your old drive, the specs on your new drive will be different.

First off, have a look at the drive you took out to see if it was set to master, slave, or cable select. To do this, have a look at the back end of the drive near the connector for the jumper setting, then make sure your new drive is set the same.

Then you need to go into the bios and look for any options to scan for hard drives (this will scan for optical drives too). You need to make sure its set to your new drive and not your old one.

If you don't know how to do any of this the your manual will help, if you don't have it you can probably download one from dell.

If you still have problems then let me know and i will do my best to help further.

Answer:Dell Inspiron 1440 no hard disk drive found

If you installed a 7 mm drive, you likely need a spacer to ensure  it connects in place of the original drive, which is 9.5 mm in height.

Answer:Secondary hard disk drive 0,1 not not found at bootup[dell pc]

Sounds like you have an option in your BIOS to 'halt at everything.' Meaning if there is anything missing or possibly wrong with the system your BIOS will stop making the user press F1 so that they notice was is wrong (or possibly wrong).

If nothing is wrong with the system then just choose the option of 'halt on nothing' or something similar in your BIOS.

Hi all,

I am attempting to install Win7 in an Inspiron 1545 with a new SATA hard drive that was purchased. When i insert the drive, I get "Internal Hard Disk Drive Not Found." I have verified the drive is not showing in the BIOS, I've already attempted to reseat the drive several times. In addition, I've attempted to load the chipset drivers, SATA drivers, etc from Dells website, the drive still does not show in the OS install when booting to DVD or in bios.
I dont believe it to be an issue with the new drive, as I plugged the new drive into another model Dell laptop and it recognizes the drive fine in BIOS, also I can still boot to the previous hard drive in this laptop without issue when i plug it back in.
Is there a specific driver, etc that I need to use for the drive to be recognized or other thoughts people have?

Answer:Inspiron 1545- replacing hard drive, new SATA drive not found "Internal Hard Disk Drive Not Found

This is strange - either the new hard drive has a rare compatibility issue with your onboard controller (I use a 500Gbyte in my 1545 without probs)) or it is a mechanical problem.I would take a close look at the physical dimensions and compare your original hdd with the new one.Watch the video (even though it's about a 1525 (similar to an 1545) and an SSD hdd) -  go to 2:20

Answer:HELP - DELL INSPIRON 3542 "Internal hard disk drive not found..."

Hi Brandon,
Welcome to the Dell Community Forum.
Turn on the system, at startup or at Dell logo tap F2 to open BIOS. In the BIOS screen, check what is listed for fixed HDD. If the HDD size is not listed, try reseating the HDD & check if it helps. Refer to the link below for the service manual.

Hi,
I have a Dell XPS 15 9530 and I'm getting this message when I try to boot it up:
internal hard disk drive not found
to resolve this issue, try reseat the drive
No bootable devices--strike F1 to retry boot, F2 enter setup Menu, F5 enter PSA.
The drive shows up in the setup menu under mSATA. I have ran all the test in the ePSA Pre-boot System assessment. All the test pass, including the Hard Drive 0 test. Has mentioned in the message I have tried reseating my drive, with no success unfortunately.
I do not know what else to do.

Answer:Dell XPS 15 - internal hard disk not found message when booting

Do you have a single, mSATA drive, or an mSATA drive (32G, usually), plus a 2.5" hard drive?
If you have the 32+hard drive setup, it sounds like the hard drive has failed -- you'll need to replace that and reload everything (the OS is stored on the hard drive - the mSATA drive is just a cache).

Hi, After turning on my laptop I am getting an error message, "Internal hard disk drive not found". No bootable devices.
I've turned it off, unplugged, removed battery, unplugged/re plugged disk and rebooted but that didn't do it.
I ran the ePSA prebiotic assessment. Everything ok, EXCEPT it tells me my hard drive is not installed.
F2 Set Up>Boot:
Fast boot enabled
Boot list option UEFI
Secure boot enabled
Load legacy option disabled
Boot option #1 onboard NIC ( IPv6)
Boot option #2 onboard NIC (IPv4)
Anyone experiencing this and found a solution that works?
Thanks,
Amy

Inspiron 14z-5423  Hard Disk Drive not found: How to Reseat Drive?
error code 2000-0142
validation 73381

Also, video card for memory has error code of 2000-0332

Much appreciation for info to help me do this, confused and sad.

Answer:Inspiron 14z-4423 Hard Disk Drive not found: How to Reseat Drive?

Hi HEARTLOTUS,
The 0142 error is a HDD failure. This is a smart error and indicates that the HDD is failing or already failed error - see this article for reference - http://dell.to/1NAsADX
So, reseating the HDD will not positively help in this case. If you would like to reseat the HDD anyway and check - download the service manual here - http://dell.to/2d326ia
Also, the 0332 is a video card related error. So, the motherboard needs to be replaced.
Personally, I would suggest you to invest your money on a new machine than to repair this system. However, that is your discretion.
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private conversation with the service tag and your Name for case records.
Let us know if you have any other queries.

If this post is in the wrong forum please feel free to move it...so here we go.

The last two days when I have been logging on to my Dell 8200 laptop running Win. xp in the middle of the boot-up I have been getting the message:

"Primary Hard Disk Drive Not Found.
Fixed Optical Drive Not Found.
Not Bootable Devices-Strike f1 to retry reboot, f2 for setup utility"

So I hit F1 for reboot...nothing...it says something to the effect there is nothing to re-boot. Hit f2 and it takes me to the setup screen, which I dont mess with as I am not sure what the problem is yet. So I do a hard reset and without fail the second time I boot it up it is fine and goes right to my desktop after I enter password etc...

I try to re-create the situation, but after the first failed boot and the second successful boot it seems to boot just fine every time afterwards except when I wait several hours to boot up again.

Another wierd thing that has been happening is that when my desktop screen does appear I have to hit "enter" in order for all my icons to show up and for the computer to continue booting from that point on.

I am not incredibly computer savvy, I can make my way around it alright, but a problem like this I am not sure how to diagnose and repair. Anyone's help or suggestions would be wonderful!

Thank you!

Answer:Hard disk drive not found????

I would recommend that you run through the malware removal thread to start things off. This may or may not be the cause, but it will at least establish a baseline to begin troubleshooting your problem.

Another thing: when you do go into setup (hit F2), what does it say under boot sequence? What does it say for primary and secondary IDE master and slaves?

Has there been any hardware changes? (I would assume not...)

Hi guys, it's my first time posting here...so bear with me..

I have 2 problems on my hands with my computer

First off, it's a Dell Optiplex GX150, everything is factory except it has Windows XP Media Center Edition 2004 on it...

Now about 4+ months ago, I bought my sister-in-law a new HD (samsung 80gig) and set everything up on my computer at my house, when I took the new HD out and put my old one back in, i started having problems when booting up.

When I boot up I get a message that says:

"Primary hard disk drive 1 not found
Secondary hard disk drive 0 not found
Secondary hard disk drive 1 not found
Strike the F1 key to continue F2 to run the setup utility"

When I hit F1 everything boots up like normal. I have gone through the setup utility, i have done everything i can think of to do...

When I called Dell the girl didn't have a clue as to what she was saying, and the end result came down to that "you're missing a driver, find it online and download it". So if that is true, can someone point me in the right direction??

Second problem started after I reformatted about a month ago, and now my computer isn't detecting my CD-ROM drive, when i go into the Setup mode it says CD-ROM (not installed)..

Any help with this, would be much appreciated, thanks so much!

Ashley

Answer:hard disk drive not found

Can be caused by bad drive or bad connections
first make sure you have all your data backed up in case its a bad drive and make sure you have the vista key so yo can install onto a new drive.
cheapest option is to try some new SATA cables for the drive the click connection ones are best as they will stop the cable coming loose.

Oh boy. Somewhere between the time I posted tonight about my computer running slow and now, my computer has completely failed me.

It's a Dell Inspiron 9300. About 4 years old. Without finding a way into it, I can't tell you much else. The only thing I downloaded today was HJT so I could post a log on the other thread I have up.

I fell asleep on the couch, and when I awoke, there was a lovely blue screen with some gibberish about "if this is the first time you have seen this screen, restart" and when I did...BLACK SCREEN and this horrendous clicking noise coming from the lower right-hand side of the unit. I should also mention the unit was so hot to the touch I nearly burned myself. Literally. It's gotten hot before, but this was honestly stove-top burner hot.

The message is "internal hard disk drive not found" press f1 to continue or f2 to...something. F1 gets me back to the same black screen. F2 gets me to bios where it confirms I no longer have an internal hard drive.

The good news is I have an external harddrive backup. The bad news is it was last backed up on 9/10 and I've done at least 20 jobs since then (graphic design) and three in progress with in-hand dates of less than 5 days from now. I'm just sick. AND I KNOW BETTER!

Anyway, is it really toast?! Help!
Natalie

Answer:Internal hard disk drive not found - PLEASE HELP!!

Yeah 4 years out of a Hard Drive is actually very good. There are a couple ways to retrieve the data. It just depends on how important it is. If it is very very important ($2500 important) than locate a data recovery center.

Ok so im working on this dell computer for a friend, and it keeps giving this error.
I have replaced both he IDE cables, and i know the new hdd we put in it works because my computer can find it just fine and read from it and write to it. I made sure the power connection all work correctly.

so i finally got it past that first error of:

"primary hard disk drive 0 not found
primary hard disk drive 1 not found
secondary hard disk drive 0 not found
primary had disk drive 1 not found"

So i finally have it so that the bios find both the hdd, and the cd-rom drive. I just re-set the BIOS with the turn on Scroll Lock, Num Lock, & Caps lock and hit Alt+F, Alt+e, Alt+b. now im sitting at a screen that says

"Performing automatic IDE Configuration...
Primary Master: CD-Rom read
Secondary Master: IDE disk Drive

strike F1 to retry boot, F2 for setup utility"

I have the dell re-install disk the cd rom drive, but it wont boot from it, and the hdd well is blank, all i have done to it is format it with NTSF on my pc.

So any idea's why im stuck at this, it sees the drives, but wont boot from anything....

thanks in advance

Answer:Primary hard disk drive 0 not found

The dell install disk isn't the operating System it's just the drivers the OS would come on it's own disc labelled XP or whatever OS came with the system, you need to find that disc.

Hi, my father has a DELL Optiplex Gx240 running Windows XP Pro. Recently he had a power failure and lost his System Disk. Fortunately his data was into another partition on that drive and there also was a Ghost image of his installation. Since I could not recover his C: (system) drive, I got a new Western Digital EIDE 250 Gb. Using partition magic on my computer, I partitioned the new drive in two different partitions. One, the Primary DOS NTS formatted of 30 Gb which I reserved for the system and and a second NTFS for his data with approx 215 Gb. From Windows Explorer on my computer I could see the new drive (connected through USB) and both partitions. I could copy the Ghost image (Symantec ver 8) to the second partition and move files around on both partitions. The hard drive was tested with WD diagnostic soft and went through Ok.

I then re-installe de new drive into my dad's computer and booted from a DOS 6.22 diskette. I noticed a message saying that "Primary hard disk drive 0 not found" and "Primary hard disk drive 1 not found" so I went into the BIOS to make sure the drive was active. It was and was properly identified by the BIOS.

I then completed the Boot process and ran the Ghost program from a diskette. Ghost could see the hard disk and I could de-ghost the image I had copied on the second partition to the first partition.

When I rebooted, The computer without a diskette, I stil had the "Primary hard disk drive 0 not found"... Read more

I just received a call from my brother telling me that he is unable to use my home PC. Since I won't be retuning home for another day or so I asked him to describe the problem, or at least read the onscreen error message. He read me the following message:

Primary hard disk drive 0 not found.

Strike the F1 key to continue.
Strike F2 to run set-up utility.

Apparently he hit the F1 key and got the following message:

Strike F1 to retry boot.

This at least sounds like a rather serious problem to me. I've Googled around a bit at various forums and found several suggestions as to what should be tried in order to determine the cause of the problem. I'm anything but a computer geek, so most of the suggestions are beyond my comprehension.

The main thing I would like to know is what are the chances that I may be able to save my hard drive, or at least be able to transfer the contents to an external hard drive. As I said, I won't be home to address the problem for another day or so, but I would like to get an idea as to what I'm up against. Could the problem possibly be fixed relatively easy? Will I need to replace the HD? If the HD turns out to be unuseable, would I somehow still be able to transfer the contents to another drive? Would it make sense to buy a new PC? [The problem PC is a DELL XPS 8250 (?) with XP Professional. It's more than four years old and I don't believe I purchased an extended warranty like I did on my previous DELL.]

Sometimes, when I startup my laptop, it gives the error: Primary hard drive disk 0 not found. It does this on both a cold boot, and when coming out of hibernation. The laptop is an Aspire 5630 running vista 32-bit SP3. I've updated the BIOS, and reset it to the default, to no avail. It doesn't have any viruses. It's a WD Caviar Blue sata drive, thought I don't remember the exact model number. All of the SMART data shows up normally, with nothing out of the ordinary. I'm out of ideas for what to try. It's had this issue for a while, but trying everything imaginable, and then ignoring it doesn't seem to have helped.

*the catch with all of this, is that if I shutdown, and restart again, it works just fine. It's an intermittent problem.

McAfee did actually read the svhost.exe as malware on April 21st 2010 and crippled quite a few machines. Thousands actually, but I believe they have now fixed it. If this is what you suspect may be the cause, then follow this link. However, only do this fix if you are certain.

I have a Dell Inspiron Laptop 1526, 2 years old. It came with Vista. I upgraded to Windows 7 back in Dec 2009.
I backed up my files onto an external HD the day before my system got this error. (3 days ago)
I physically took a picture of the screen with my camera to show what I was getting.
The first screen shows that internal hard disk drive not found.
Then I tried to do a "repair", and this is what it shows now ( i also took a picture of that too)

Test Performed:
System Disk Test
Result: Completed successfully. Error code OXO
Time taken 15ms

Root cause found:
System volume on disk corrupt
Repair Action: File system repair (chkdsk)

I have the original Dell OS CD...it says its Window XP service pack 2...however it came with Vista installed.
I also have the Windows 7 CD

Thank you

Run hard drive diagnostics: http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=287 (or http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic28744.html)Make sure, you select tool, which is appropriate for the brand of your hard drive.Depending on the program, it'll create bootable floppy, or bootable CD.If downloaded file is of .iso type, use ImgBurn: http://www.imgburn.com/ to burn .iso file to a CD (select "Write image file to disc" option), and make the CD bootable.NOTE. If your hard drive is made by Toshiba, unfortunately, you're out of luck, because Toshiba doesn't provide any diagnostic tool.

Hey all I have an Alienware X51 R3 and I was messing with my command prompt and accidentally changed what I believe is the path too boot my hard drive... In the command prompt I said

bcdedit /set {bootmgr} path \EFI\

I then reset my computer and now I get a "Internal hard disk drive not found to resolve this issue, try to reseat the drive. No bootable devices. Strike F1 to retry boot, F2 enter Setup Menu, F5 enter PSA"

I don't know what to do, I can boot my Linux OS by inserting my USB and I can mount my HDD and access everything in there. However I dont know how to boot my windows OS. How can I fix this? How can I fix the path back to my HDD?

Answer:Internal hard disk drive not found.

You will need external media to boot into the Command Prompt, either a Recovery Drive or Install Media.  You may be able to download the install media from Dell and make a bootable flash drive.
Another alternative might be to boot into the media and run the command below.
bootrec /rebuildbcd
The real entry looks like the one below.. Of course, your volume numbers and GUID numbers will probably be different.
path                    \EFI\MICROSOFT\BOOT\BOOTMGFW.EFI
While there you might do a bcdedit  to make sure it looks something like this.
indows Boot Manager
--------------------
identifier              {bootmgr}
device                  partition=\Device\HarddiskVolume2
path                    \EFI\MICROSOFT\BOOT\BOOTMGFW.EFI
description             Windows Boot Manager

im not very familiar with scuzzy dirves maybe someone can help me out, at start up i get this message:

primary hard disk drive 0 not found
<<<ctrl a for scsiSelect Utility!>>>
Ch A, SCSI ID #0 -Quantum Atlas IV9 WIS Ultra 2 - LVD
BIOS Installed Successfully!
Strike the F1 key to continue, F2 to run the setup utility.

i checked the cables and everything seems to be in the right place, i've reset bios
I tried to set the hard drive to master buut theres nothing listed on the harddrive about a master or slave setting..

Answer:primary hard disk drive 0 not found

there can be several reasons for this, the first one is bad HD, if it's possible try to hook another one. the second you SCSI controler has gone bad. and the third one cables, but you said that they are all right.

Alright, in order to avoid a wall of text I'll post the short version here:

Last week or so the hard drive in my Dell Inspiron 9100 (circa 2004) started giving me the click of death, and I knew it was shot so I sought a replacement. The original HDD was a Hitachi Travelstar 7k60 (60 GB, 7200 RPM, 2.5 inch IDE drive). I shopped around online for a replacement, found the the Travelstar 7k100 100 gb version, also IDE and 7200 RPM, and bought it from newegg. I figured this would be a great upgrade at the same time, and I anticipated no difficulties as it was essentially just the next generation of what I had previously.

Well today I recieved the hard drive, popped the old one out, screwed the new one into the frame, and I keep getting the message "Primary Hard disk drive 0 not found" after the BIOS screen comes up. I tried physically popping it in and out to fix it, no cigar. I also tried running diagnostics, still didnt recognize it. if I press F2 on the boot screen, and go into BIOS, it doesnt recognize the hard drive. I have been searching the net for the past few hours in search of a solution and have not made any progress yet

If anyone can help me with this it woud be greatly appreciated!

Also, If you need any more information to help me reach a solution I'll be periodically checking on this thread and I'll be delighted to inform you!

Thanks!

Answer:Primary Hard Disk drive 0 not found help please!

If you can test your new drive in a different machine.
that failing it could be you need to buy a drive direct from dell (or possible ghost an image from the old one over).

I used to work at a PC store and once a guy came in with a ram module from a dell, he wanted an upgrade. After inspecting his ram i found it was identical to a regular 133 dimm except that where a regular dimm had round clips the dell had square...ensuring you had to buy from them at a higher price : (

hope thats not the case here
Good luck

Whenever I start up my Dell XPS 15 I get the error "Internal hard disk drive not found..."
I checked the BIOS and it shows the hard drive is there and also ran the Dell Startup thing that checks the different components and got no errors.

What do I do next?

Answer:Internal hard disk drive not found...

Run the Dell Diagnostics again but this time select the Custom Hard drive extended test. The hard drive has most likely failed.

Well after 5 years of internet bliss I believe I got a virus that totally screwed up my computer. I went to turn my computer on this morning and it won't boot. I get this message saying Primary hard disk drive 0 not found. Strike the F1 key to continue. F2 to run the setup utility. Hit the F1 key and the same message comes up. Hit the F2 and the setup utility came up but I really have no clue what to do in there. I run Norton Antivirus with the subscription updates. I have my Windows Firewall turned on. I also scan for Trojans pretty frequently with a Trojan Remover program I have had for years. Not sure exactly what has happened but maybe I somehow got this virus updating the MSN Messenger program I have had for years also. I have no clue what to do to fix this. Is this a lost cause?

Answer:Hard disk drive not found on startup...sometimes.

Run hard drive diagnostics: http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=287 (or http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=28744&hl=hard+drive+diagnostic)Make sure, you select tool, which is appropriate for the brand of your hard drive.Depending on the program, it'll create bootable floppy, or bootable CD.If downloaded file is of .iso type, use ImgBurn: http://www.imgburn.com/ to burn .iso file to a CD (select "Write image file to disc" option), to make the CD bootable. For Toshiba hard drives, see here: http://sdd.toshiba.com/main.aspx?Path=ServicesSupport/FujitsuDrivesUSandCanada/SoftwareUtilities#diagnosticNote : If you do not know how to set your computer to boot from CD follow the steps HERE

I was told to make a new thread out of this...

I have a Dell inspiron 600m, about 6 years old.. (yes, i know...)

I've been getting the "Primary hard disk drive 0 not found" error message recently, I have installed a new 7200rmp 100gb hd about a year ago, and I have 512mb of ram. Sometimes after the pc has been on the screen saver for a while, it just kind of does it on it's own...usually I can just turn it off, and it starts right back up as normal, but this morning I am only able to get on thru safe mode after many tries. The HD is installed correctly, as I am using it now, but it hasn't been able to boot up thru normal working mode since last night. I have seen the "blue screen" in the past, and I've reinstalled windows numerous times. In the BIOS, it said "None" for hard drive... Sometimes when the pc is trying to open a prog and gets stuck, it goes to the blue screen. I know the thing is old, but I'd also like to find out why it does this... any suggestions? Why wouldn't it recognize the hd?

Answer:Primary hard disk drive 0 not found, again....

If it says 0 in bios, then Windows does not see a drive. Lots of possibilities including a bad motherboard, but sadly beyond rechecking cables and jumpers, it will be hard to figure out. A BIOS update is possible, perhaps the board has an issue with a new, fast drive. Start there.

This is my bootmgr entry, this is if you have a recovery partition as your first volume. If your boot partition is the first partition then the device value will end in HarddiskVolume1.

You probably just need to re-point path to the efi file.

My dell laptop started not booting up. It will go to the dell startup screen and then goes black and displays the following text.

"Primary hard disk drive not found
Fixed optical disk drive not found

I tried booting the windows xp cd after changing bios setting to boot cd first and failed. I did get the computer to boot last night after it had been set in its case for 2 months when I got tired of messing with it and it worked fine I let it hibernate. When I went to start it up today it is back to the original error.
I know I'm probably over looking something. Any help would be great let me know what extra info you need. Thanks

Any help is appreciated.

I have read the similar threads, but it seems I have a little different problem.

What is involved:

Dell Inspiron 9200 I estimate it is thirty months old

Windows XP Pro BIOS Revision A00

Hard drive Hitachi 60GB
Model HTS548060M9AT00

One evening, I begin to move about twenty to thirty gigabytes, I estimate, of the data on the hard drive to an external hard drive. Something I've done several times before.

I come back a couple of hours later, and the move is completed.

I begin to download a file, and leave again.

I come back to a blue screen, advising of some error or other. I pay no attention, as I have this screen occasionally, and the quickest (perhaps the only) solution is to re-boot and start over.

This time, though, when I re-boot, I hear a clicking, a sound I have never heard before. It seems to be coming from the area of the battery. The clicking is not metronomic, but erratic, in its rhythm. Not like what I have experienced to be a "can't find home" problem.

Sure enough, instead of booting up, the computer displays three messages, occurring at one time or another. The first two:

Since this is an IDE drive you might try a new cable. If that doesn't help you might try connecting the drive to your secondary ide port if you mother board has one.

Has the computer been recently moved or monkeyed with?

Answer:Primary hard disk drive 0 not found

It means that the MBR (Master Boot Record) is damaged on the hard drive. If you can find someone that knows computers like a computer repair shop, they may be able to fix this for you without loosing any of your data... It is possible that the hard drive is going bad, even though the drive is "seen" in another system

When I turn on my computer I get the above message prompting me to press F1 for retry or f2 for setup. Neither of these have done anything. Everything is plugged in correctly. I only have one hard drive so the cables are set up correctly.

Answer:primary hard disk drive 0 not found -- HELP!!!

That error message at boot indicates one of the following problems:

1. The HDD is not connected properly.
2. The HHD on-board hardware has failed and the drive in no longer any good.
3. The IDE Controller has failed and is no longer functioning.
4. BIOS does not recognize the drive correctly, most likely cause a defective CMOS battery.

Make sure that all cables are connected to the drive and IDE controller. Some cables will only allow you to connect the cables one way, however some can be connected incorrectly. Make sure pin 1 on the drive is connected to pin 1 on the cable, same with the IDE controller, pin 1 to pin 1.

I have a Dell Dimension 8100 - Windows XP, with a cd-rom, and a cdrw.
When I start the computer up, I get a message saying
" Secondary Hard Disk Drive 1 Not Found"
"Press f1 to continue, or f2 to enter setup".
If I go to setup, both drives show up and are listed as
"auto".
when I press f1, the boot continues, and xp starts up, with my cdrw not showing up. I then restart the computer, and it loads up again with both drives showing up and working fine.
This only happens on computer start up - restarts are fine.
I have tried two different cdrws to insure that it is not a problem with the drive itself.
Any ideas?

Answer:Secondary Hard Disk Drive Not Found

First off if the hard drive you added is on teh same channel(i.e. the same cable) then make sure that the jumpers on teh back of the drives are set correctly. Make the harddrive master and the cd-rw slave.

So I've had my Dell Inspiron for about a year now. The other day, I tried turning it on, and it brought up only a black screen telling me to try reseating the hard drive. Hello -

I have a Dell Inspiron 4150 laptop. I booted it up after it sat idle and shut down for months and received the message:
"Primary Hard Disk Drive 0 Not Found".
I replaced the hard drive but still get the same error message.
In BIOS it doesn't even recognize the hard drive. I can use the CD drive and run a CD from it with no problems.

I don't know what else to check, I'm not literate enough on computer troubleshooting to know what else to check or replace.

Please help.

Answer:Primary Hard Disk Drive 0 Not Found

If the computer can't find two hard drives, it sounds like the connection between the motherboard and the hd is bad. Are you sure you seated the new hd correctly? I know when I install RAM, I tend to forget how hard I have to press it into the slot for it to make proper contact and be recognized. Perhaps you didn't press firmly enough when putting in the new hard drive.
Also what size is the new hard drive? Can you start to install windows to it?

I am running windows XP machine has been working great. Kid loaded I tunes software last week and when I reboot I get the blue check disk screen and it takes a little over 7 hours to run thru the check.

Today Itunes rebooted the machine without any prompt , just stated it was restarting for updates to take effect. When the machine restarted it began running the disk checking sequence. It was at 0% and we lost power .

Now when I start the machine it does not recognize that a hard drive is present. When I enter Bios and there is no HD listed , when I run auto scan for hard drive from bios it says no hard drive present.

I have pulled the hard drive set the jumper for slave and put it in another computer , it does not see the hard drive either. I have aprox 3 years of Cad drawings and everything related to my machine shop business on this one hard drive and am shut down until i can recover . Any thoughts or advice greatly appreciated.

Hello! I have a Dell studio 1735 laptop, with (seemingly) common problem and even more interesting spin to it.

When I boot, it sticks to the dell bios screen at about 95%, then shows up with this message:

"internal hard disk drive not found
To resolve this issue, try to reseat the drive."
(system beeps)
"No bootable devices--strike F1 to retry boot, F2 for setup utility
Press F5 to run onboard diagnostics"

Of course, i press F5, it runs its full diagnostics, with flying colors (everything passes)
once thats done, it boots to windows fine, but its the ONLY way im able to boot to windows,i just dont want to have to do the full diagnostic EVERY time i turn on my laptop.. (plus i think that means that the HDD is going bad?)

I have reseated, checked connections, etc. i have pretty much checked all that i can find online about how to fix this issue, but no one else seems to have the same situation i do.

im not sure if anyone could help me, but im savvy enough to dump diagnostic files on here/etc.. i appreciate the help in advance

I have a Dell Optiplex 755. It came with an 80Gb hard drive. It has filled up so I bought a Seagate 500Gb hard drive. When I start the install of WIN7, it won't recognize the new hard drive. All I have is the WIN7 install disk, where do I go from here? It asks for me to load drivers, but I don't have anything.

Answer:No disk found when loading WIN7 on a new hard drive

It may be asking for 'F6' drivers, which can be downloaded from Intel's site (and perhaps Dell's?)
An alternative is to 'clone' the 80gb to the new 500gb. Pen Drive Linux can be used for this purpose and it is free, or you can use commercial disk cloning software like Acronis True Image.

I have a friend of mine that was working on his desktop computer doing some research. I don't have all the details of what he did that day. The next day when he tried to start his computer he got an error message like "Primary Hard Drive disk 0", "Press F1 to retry boot or F2 to run setup" He brought his computer to me to try to fix it. I was not able to repair the drive I try to connect the drive to other computers to no avail. So I concluded it was a faulty hard drive so I decided to buy a new drive, I setup the drive, installed all the software he needed and all is good.

Today I received a called from him telling me he was working on a different computer (laptop) checking emails (gmail) and doing some work stuff.. He shutdown his computer and forgot that he needed to check some other emails. When he tried to start the computer he got the same error message as above.. At this point I'm just think these problems are getting cause by some king of virus/worms or the like.

Has anyone knows or have an idea of what could be the reason? Two different computers having the same problem, coincedence? Don't think so.. right?

Please any help or advise appreciated.

Answer:Problems: Primary Hard Drive Disk Not Found

My experience when getting that first message...is that the option to go to Setup/BIOS occurs because Windows wants the user to check that the drive is properly recognized in the BIOS. So the first thing to check is all connections to/from the drive.

If the drive is recognized in the BIOS properly...and the boot options in the BIOS are correct...and it still won't boot, then the first suspect for me is the MBR.

If possible, I then run chkdsk /r on the drive from the Recovery Console. Just a prelim step, but one that I never fail to do.

If the disk still won't boot after chkdsk /r, I then go back to the RC and run the fixboot or fixmbr command. I'm partial to fixboot, since it includes fixmbr.

If the drive still cannot boot then I run a manufacturer's diagnostic on it and mentally prepare for a repair install or a clean install.

If the file system (NTFS or FAT32) happens to be screwed up, a clean install is the solution for me.

Ok first off I want to say I've searched and searched and searched to no avail in trying to find a solution to this I've come to the conclusion it's software and not hardware based. Let me start from the top.

I've had an older computer (HP Pavilion a408x) out of commission for a while due to a 'sploded psu. I finally get around to ordering one, install it and everything is good. I bring it back to my office and hook it up to the internet and as expected there's updates. So I up date it and after the updates are installed the computer restarts automatically (weird yes) and as it's coming back on it detects errors and runs CHKDSK. So I let it run and it gets to part 2 of 3. At this point in time my partner is really needing to print sometime and all computers print through this computer. So after about 45 minutes CHKDSK is still on part 2 at only 15%. So I'm like "screw it" and manually shut down and restart. It's at this point I get a "primary master hard disk failure" at the boot screen. Letting start up continue I get a "Stop : c000021 unknown hard error \systemroot \system 32 \ntdll.dll" At this point I realize something is delectably wrong.

Found this thread, which didn't help much. At some point the c000021 error stops and I start getting "disk boot failure insert system disk and press enter" and I found this thread, which didn't help much either. I have also been searching other sites as well.

Here's what I found ou... Read more

Anything would be super helpful, even if it's bad news. I just need to know if I can get this remedied or not.

Another thing I noticed is that the HDD activity light on the front of the computer does not blink or show any activity.

Hello thank you for your time, I am experiencing issues with a dell dimension 4100. I have received a virus and was told upon startup to insert some kind of startup disk im not sure it was a while ago so me in all my stupidity tried to connect the hard drive to a different motherboard in the spot the dvd drive plugs in to in that cisnet computer. Well after a few tries i somehow got it to recognize the hard drive upon startup and it tried to format it i think, although as soon as i saw that screen i powered down and now the hard drive is no longer recognized by either computer, even in the bios it says the total memory is 512 mb with it connected to hard drive spot of the original dell. I would really like to get my dell working again but it gives me the error Invalid Boot diskette Insert Boot diskette in A: I do not care for restoring the files on the hard drive they are worthless to me i just want to get my computer working again any help would be greatly appreciated, Thank you.

Answer:Non detected Disk Drive/Hard Drive Need help with dell Dimension 4100

Place OEM Windows CD into the CD or DVD drive and boot off of this disk. If your system doesnt want to boot off the CD or DVD drive go into bios and set the CD or DVD drive as 1rst boot device in boot order. Once you successfully boot off of your optical drive you then can delete the partition on the hard drive, create new partition and reformat, then install clean installation to that hard drive. If you dont have recovery or oem cd available, you will have to buy one.

Gentlemen, thanks for your help.

Long story short:

1) One random day, computer would not boot and I reformatted and re-installed Windows 7
2) My primary SATA hard drive with Windows 7 is working fine
3) My secondary SATA hard drive (my pictures!) is detected in BIOS but not in Disk Management. It used to work fine.
4) I've tried refreshing Disk Management, but no "unnamed drive" or anything shows up
5) I've tried moving the missing hard drive's SATA connection on the motherboard
6) I've tried downloading the latest motherboard RAID drivers and BIOS version from my motherboard's manufacturer

Now I'm thinking about buying an external USB enclosure for the SATA hard drive to get my pictures. I'd be out $20 and no longer have the drive directly connected to my motherboard, which I believe is a much faster connection.

Would you guys have any advice?

Thanks a lot and happy new year!
Josh

Hi all,
I have a reliable older Dell Inspiron 4100 running Windows XP. A couple of weeks ago it refused to boot up and showed the following error message:

"Primary hard disk drive 0 not found. No bootable devices".

I was in panic as I thought my hard drive had died. However, I tried a trick and it worked - when I get the above error message, I press Ctrl-Alt-Del and it boots up! I have done this a dozen times and it works, which shows that the hard drive is not dead.

Do you have any ideas how I can fix this problem, so that I don't have to press Ctrl-Alt-Del every time in order for my laptop to start? Many thanks in advance

This is a Dell Latitude laptop with Windows XP
I let the battery die on it and when i plugged it in the next morning to turn it on I get that error message. I tried taking out the hard drive and putting it back in. The BIOS is not seeing any hard drive. It reads "<none>"
I am not sure if the battery discharging has anything to do with it or not.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Answer:Internal hard disk drive not found after battery discharge

Faulty HDD Controller but I would have that laptop check out if you can. Most likely it's the MOBO that is to blame. MOBO = Motherboard. See if that was XP not seeing the HDD then you could re-install XP. But you said your BIOS is not seeing the HDD. It could also be your HDD as failed. Normally DELL has a tool that you run to test your system out. This tool is use by DELL Certified Techs to see where your issue is. HDD, MOBO, Battery. Most of the time the MOBO is replaced. Then HDD then the Battery to solve your issue.

I have been scouring Google for the last couple days looking for this, but I can not find a thing. I have a Dell Optiplex GX150 PIII 1 GHz, running windows 2000. I had a 20GB drive with my OS, and a 60GB drive for storage. Recently I upgraded to a 120GB drive for the OS, and kept the 60GB drive for storage. I had to re-install Windows 2000 on the 120GB drive, and everything worked fine.

The next day, I started up the computer and I got the message "Primary hard disk drive 1 not found", and the drive was missing in windows. Ok...so I restart and get into the BIOS settings, and the drive is there, and all settings look ok (it's on AUTO, so it's picking it up). I exited and continued to boot up. No error message, and the drive showed up in windows. I thought the problem was solved, but then it happened again the next day. As far as I can tell, if the computer is powered off for more than a couple hours, the drive is not found, but will be found on a immediate restart every time without fail. Windows boots up just fine, but that drive is always missing unless I restart. Iíve done this kind of stuff before, and I know the jumper settings on the drives are ok. Any ideas?

Hdwr: Dell Dimension 8200, WinXP Pro.
System failed with no warning or performance problems.
Can't recall a single warning sign.
Current situation: Can't get past BIOS setup. Drives are not recognized.
an't access CD Rom drive or Hard Drive so I can't use solutions that are CD based.
Attempted fixes:
- battery tested ok, but I replaced it anyway
-downloaded MS XP boot disk. It renamed the CD drive R: and I could read CD's, but it is in Win98 format (dos) and "could not create swap files" to access I386 files
- tried floppy boot with selected I386 files... no good.
- tried switching boot order.
- tried unplugging ribbon cables and power cables
-tried holding "on" button for 30 sec. to "reset"
The hard drive is spinning and the light is on
The CD drive starts, as if in auto run mode, but then stops without reading boot files
The CD drive will run from the Microsoft XP boot floppy, so the drive is ok
Someone a lot smarter than I must have the solution. (No, I don't want to buy a new box right now).
Thx.
Ed

Answer:?WinXP Pro: boot error "Primary hard disk drive not found"

Hi, Ed from San Diego,

A couple of things that might help.
You say "The CD drive starts, as if in auto run mode, but then stops without reading boot files. The CD drive will run from the Microsoft XP boot floppy, so the drive is ok.". This ain't necessarily so !  Just because the drive is spinning it doesn't mean it is reading. Can you borrow a drive and swap it for your own ?
It's not holding in the 'On' button for 30 seconds that resets it, it is turning the power off from the computer for 30+ seconds that does this. You can turn it off either at the wall or at the switch on the back of the computer's power supply, both have the same effect.

I will admit that I am as much in the dark as you are about what has caused your problem. I have had computers crash and / or just stop running for a number of reasons over the years, but never a time when the BIOS refused to recognise drives. I do have the situation on my own computer, where I have three HDDs two of which are the same model, and the BIOS occasionally has got confused about which is which. All this results in is a message at boot time 'No operating system found'. And all this entails is going into the BIOS and swapping the drive order around.

Best of luck,

Chris Cosgrove

Hi,
My friend's laptop (Acer Aspire One 722 - Windows 7 x64) has been shut down after opening an email and Windows never started up again. When you attempt to start up the windows, it stays the black screen and says "No bootable Device Found"!

1- I inserted Windows Live Disk and loaded it (Windows XP Mini - Golden Edition). When I went to "My Computer", it did not show any local drive. I went to "Disk Management" and in there, there was also no unallocated or allocated space.

2- I even removed the HDD and plugged it back in. No thing happened. Then I removed the RAM card and inserted it back. Again, nothing happened! By the way, HDD had movements when laptop was on (I had removed the beneath panel).

3- I inserted Windows 7 Disk to install a fresh Windows 7. But when you get to the part where it asks you to choose the partition to install the operating Sustem, it shows one unallocated drive with 0 (Zero) capacity! The options to Delete and format are disable. Only the option "New" is active and it gives you (0) bite to partition!

What has happened? What should I check/do next?

Hi there,
My sister just bought a new desktop. It was working fine and all. But this morning, she forced shut down a windows update. The next thing happen once it gets past through BIOS is
"Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key"
So I told her to look at the BIOS setting and it only recognise the Optical Disc Drive of
"SATA SM: TSSTcorp CDDVD SH-2"
as shown in the picture below

Is there anything I can do? I tried opening the desktop case and see everything is loose, but everything was still in tact.
Any suggestion would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Answer:Hard Disk Drive not found in ASUS UEFI BIOS Utility - EZ Mode

Try reinstalling the driver, changing cables. If it can't be recognized then boot the maker's diagnostics DOS CD scan to test it - Seatools if there isn't one - or Partition Wizard bootable CD surface scan. If these won't see it you can slave it to another PC to try Disk Check or see if it will see it. If not then I'd replace it.

Do a Clean Reinstall on the replacement drive from tutorial in my signature below if you want it perfect.

I have a Dell XPS 15z laptop, spec. is i7-2640 processor, 8GB memory, 750GB hard drive. The problem is that it often freezes and when restarted it suggests no hard drive, "No boot device found". If I go into the BIOS there is no hard drive, if I boot into the diagnostics screen (F12) and run thr tests on the hard drive it comes up as passed, if I then restart the laptop it will boot into windows 7 Ultimate.
Evertime it freezes it won't boot after a restart unless I run diagnostics then it will start OK.
My thoughts are that it is hard drive, although all tests I have carried out on it suggest its OK, one of the times it booted into windows I ran the Seagate seatools and it was fine.
Anyone any suggestions as to the cause?

I read most of the posts on this subject and found no answers.
I get this error with both the system hard drive and replacing it with a known working hard drive from another Dell system.
I tried loading default values, trying HDD0-3, SATA-1, tried both Legacy and UEFI, tried disabling RAID, also replaced HD cable.
The Bios will recognize the drives, but both Dell diagnostics and a Windows install cd give the error: no hard drive detected, or disk controller not supported.

Anything else I should try?
Thank you for your feedback :)

Hi,

I have been going bonkers looking for some help to do this, then I recalled out that I can call dell to get the restore disk, -  I was told NO you can not get the disks, because Windows XP is no longer supported.

I have Windows XP sp 2, I know it needs updated, but I also know the computer is riddled with virus and malware.  I would rather make the restore disks from the hidden partition and then reformat the computer.

I would like to make the disks, but have no clue as to how.

I then plan to partition the 150gb hard drive so I have Windows XP on one partition and then the other I want to install Ubuntu, I have no clue about Ubuntu - other then I have heard it is open source and a very good program.

Thanks

Jan

P.S why both OS?

I know XP well, and want to learn Ubuntu, I expect I will go back and forth between them as I learn.

Answer:Wanting to create a Hard drive restore disk from hidden files on a dell

Hello

I do not know of a way to make recovery CD / DVD media from the recovery partition.

The best recovery method (provided your recovery partition is intact is to perform the following...
Make a Backup of all your important data first.

Disconnect any unneeded peripherals (Printers, Scanners, USB Drives etc.).

Boot your computer, when the Dell logo appears on your screen, hold down <Ctrl> and <F11> simultaneously.

The Dell PC Restore Wizard will load.

Use the <Tab> and <Enter> key or Click to choose Restore.

Read and follow the instructions carefully, use the <Tab> and <Enter> key or Click to respond to prompts.

Finally All Data Will Be Lost displays. use the <Tab> and <Enter> key or Click to choose Confirm.

Press <Enter> to begin the recovery process.

Upon completion you will receive a message hopefully displaying a successful recovery. use the <Tab> and <Enter> key or Click to choose Finish

Press <Enter> to boot to the fresh installation.

I recommend that you consider Linux Mint

Keep BC posted!

I've got a new Inspiron 15 a couple of days ago with the following configuration:
Intel core  i7 7700HQ cpu
16GB DDR4
512GB SSD (bios reports M.2 PCIe ssd-0) -- no other hard drive
Graphics card NVidia Geforce GTX 1050 Ti
Screen resolution 3840 x 2160
My problem is that I cannot split the hard disk into 2 partitions nor can i shrink the partition on which windows is installed from within windows. I used both the windows gui (disk management) and the command line program diskpart.
Does anyone have any idea?

Answer:New DELL Inspiron 15 7000 denies to shrink windows installation hard disk drive

It sounds like you might have a 7567 Gaming system.  If so, Windows will shrink a partition if it can. I would not recommend using a third party utility to shrink it since problems could happen and you might lose the system.
If you need another partition, you should have an option to place a 2.5 inch drive in the system for that.

Whenever I boot the computer up, I get this right after the first windows loading screen -

Primary Hard Disk Drive 1 not found
Hit F1 to continue or F2 to enter setup

I used to have this problem every once in a great while, and my disk drive wouldn't work along with the message. Now though, everything is fine. Everything is there, everything works. Waiting for the message and hitting F1 everytime you gotta start up the computer gets annoying though, so I'd like to get to the bottom of this.

Boot into your bios & on the main page you will see all your installed drives, I take it you only have 1 hard drive, only leave enabled the hd you are using, and any cd/dvds & disable any others.

My home CPU was working fine yesterday morning. I left in on and started watching TV. About an hour and a half later the power blink on and off. We though nothing of it. a few hours later my wife attempted to use the CPU and found a blue screen with white txt on it. I look at it but could not read the message because the left margin was cut off. I didn't write it down either. I do remember the message stating that I should restart the CPU and if the problem was still there I should contact someone for help. I turned the CPU off and when I turned it back on the CPU made sounds we have never heard before. Beep, Beep, pause, Click. The beeps occured in a rapid succesion, then a pause, then a click. Theses noises repeat themself constantly as a white bar fills itself running from left to right at the bottom of a black screen. On that same screen the CPU showed Dell's insignia on it with the words "F2 = Setup F12 = Boot Menu" at the top. Then it goes to another black screen with white text showing the error message:

"Primary hard disk 0 drive not found
Strike F1 Key to continue, F2 to run the setup utility"

We have windows XP on the CPU. It is a Dell Computer.

We have family photos, and personal information saved on this CPU and most is not backed up. Can you please help.

Hi guys,

I think I'm in big trouble, I have a Dell XPS Lap Top Pentium 4HT 3.40GHz and on boot up it doesn?t see the Hard Drive, it say?s "Primary hard disk drive 0 not found" I took out the single screw removed and reinserted the hard drive hoping it was just a bad connection but no luck, before this problem I could not get the CD/DVD bay to open but I think that is a separate issue but not sure, this is a big laptop that I use for my work and I move it around allot, I try to be careful but it has gotten banged a couple of times but nothing big, say something equal to like a drop of only 1 inch or so could that be the cause?

I make my living with this thing and have allot of stuff in the HD some backed up but some not so what I'm asking is what should I do? Am I screwed? The hard drive is a Hitachi Travelstar model HTS726060M9AT00 60GB 7200RPM ATA/IDE the rest of the info is as follows:

BIOS Version: A05
Application CPU: Enabled
Level 2 Cash: 1024KB
System Memory: 3.4 GHz 1024 MB @ 400 MHz
video controller: ATI Radeon 9700
Video Memory: 128 MB
Panel Type: 15.4" Wide UXGA
Audio Controller: sigmatel 9750
modem Controller: Conexant D480 MDC
Primary Hard Drive: None
Modular Bay: DVD+/-RW
System D-Bay: Not Installed

Really appreciate any help, thanks.

Answer:Help "Primary hard disk drive 0 not found"

Burnout- First isolate the software possibilities. Go into Bios (tap F2 at boot up) and check "Drives". Make sure its enabled.Try resetting the BIOS (turn on all 3 lights:numlock, caps, and scroll, then hit ALT + E, then ALT + F, then ALT + B) it'll reboot automatically. If still no HDD, run system diagnostics (tap F12 and choose "diagnostics") start with "custom tests/ HDD/ confidence test" that a fairly quick test, but you can do a full scale HDD test by just choosing "all tests" under HDD catagory.
Or you can use the "Resource CD" that came with the PC, put it in the drive and boot from it (tap F12 and choose CD/DVD drive) and run diagnostics from that.
I also think maybe if theres a RAM problem, it won't find the HDD, Open the memory door on the back and reseat the RAM.If you have two Ram modules, try removing one and boot. Then try the other.
Try using a soft pencil eraser and cleaning the HDD connector on the HDD. Clean off any crumbs afterwards, reseat and boot.
Let us know how you make out.

Hi

My Dell N5050 laptop died and I tried moving the Harddisk into a old HP Deskpro. The disk boots fine but Windows 7 DELL OEM reboots as the windows picture comes up. It then allows me to do a repair but that doesn't help. The repair report doesn't give any clue to the problem.

I am guessing it is some fundamental driver that is Dell specific. Any idea how to sort it ?

The repair will allow me to get to a dos prompt.

Hello all,
First time here, I'm amazed at all of the knowledge and help being shared here. Hoping someone can assist me...

On Monday my computer just "stopped working," was booting to a command prompt, no OS... tried to boot from the Vista Reinstall disk with no luck, and ran the Diagnostics I was able to access through the F12 command (which gives a list of boot devices, and then Diagnostics). It returned an error 2000-0142 (the HDD in the machine was a Scorpio Blue, 500G, 5400rpm) - after some googling I ordered a new HDD that night. I installed the new HDD (Scorpio Black, 500G, 7200rpm) expecting to boot off the Vista reinstall CD that came with the computer and be good to go in a few hours. However, after changing the boot sequence so that the CD/DVR drive was at the top I get the following Error:

PXE-E61 Media Test Failure, check cable
PXE-M0F Exiting Broadcom PXE ROM
Operating System not found

So two things. I'd love any assistance in getting the OS on the HD so I can get the computer up and running again, and also, I am looking for input on the best way to try to recover anything off the old HD. I have an enclosure and have not tried to explore it that way yet, but have not had any luck with that in the past.

Thanks in advance!
Cassie

Where did you go to access the defrag? What does "it did`t work" mean?

The reason I am asking these questions is not to give you a hard time. There is a virus going around that is very similar in it`s behavior.

I am just trying to find out exactly what it is we are dealing with.

In the morning the pc was working just fine, i turned it off and then back on to change to a another operating system. Instead of taking me to the boot options it took me to a black screen saying;
intenal hard disk drive not found
to resolve this issue, try to reseat the drive.
No bootable devices--strike F1 to retry to boot, F2 enter Setup Menu, F5 enter PSA
I didnt did anything to the pc, it was just sitting in the table and so I doubt it may be related to the hardware as several forums say.
When I enter the BIOS it says on Fixed HDD; ST500LM012 HN-M500MBB                                              (500 Gb)
Here the details of the computer
Dell Inspiron 15N 3520
Windows 8 (with 8.1 Preview and Ubuntu)
uses UEFI
Core I5 2.5 GHz
4GB DDR3 Ram
500 GB of HDD (i think it has a 32GB SSD cache)

Please help, i have tried reading all over the internet and trying everything  that does not require opening the device (the device is new and is not easy as I would like it to be).
Can anyone tell me what to do or if it can be saved without any hardware change? It only has about 2 months and  i have important information inside (yeah no back up...)

Answer:Dell Inspiron 3520 Internal Disk not Found

Hi joseph97svl,
Thank you for the update.
Since the HDD is detected in the BIOS and also the test passed, the hardware is functioning as designed. I suspect it is a software issue and you may consider restoring the system using the recovery discs.  Follow the instruction given in the following link to restore the system using the recovery media:

In case the recovery discs are not created, send me a private message with the system service tag to assist you further.  Please click on my name and click Start Conversation to send me a private message.

Question: No Hard disk found

I've just bought a T61 with windows vista installed. I've installed a new 320GB hardrive in order to install windows 2003 server edition. I've tried everything but when the windows set up ask to press enter in order to install the OS the message appears "No Hard drive found" check if the hard drive is connected and powered on or check for supplier hard drive diagnostic". I've even check the diagnostic, the problem remains the same. Please advice. Thanks

Answer:No Hard disk found

You have a SATA drive, no? When you check the BIOS, it is recognized, no?  If it is, the set the BIOS for "compatibility mode" and see what happens. I don't believe Server 2003 includes native SATA drivers. If the drive is recognized check the Lenovo support page for your particular model for OS installation instructions. You will need to include the SATA drivers at some point. I've not installed Server 2003 in a while, but I believe if you have the drivers available on a floppy, you can point to them when you get the screen that says something about pressing F6 to add a driver. Or... you can add them later and then do the switch back to SATA in the BIOS. Good luck.

Hi, I've been having an ongoing hard disk issue where it gave me a 'Boot device not found 3f0' error on the first start everyday. I would not show it again no matter how many times I restarted afterwards. But over the last two days I started getting a few blue screen crashes but after that it would resume as normal.  I've done the extensive hard disk test that ran for two hours as shown in the image  Now since yesterday for the first time it said hard disk does not exist and would not start at all. I opened the back at reset the the connector as seen in the photo. it started working right away.  Today it won't start at all and is stuck on hard disk does not exist I tried resetting as well switching the connector to the other port but it just won't start. In between those errors at one point it also said 'Cooling fan not detected' I had replaced my motherboard last month. Could it be that the guy hadn't connected everything correctly? Here's the original post I wrote. http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Hard-Disk-3F0-BootDevice-not-fo... Please help.

Answer:Hard Disk not found

The reason you are having this might be a issue with the Harddrive or the connector not seated properly and you have to get the hardware replaced in this case it seems that the System boarding is fine.... also try to repeat the fan to check if helps you with the fan issue
