Question: Why can't GMail provide Folders to store ones special eMails in

Every other email program that I use provides an ability to create Folders to store ones memorable eMails in.
Why cannot Gmail do this, or perhaps it can and I have been unable to discover the facility.
I know that you can separate arriving eMails into separate Boxes, on arrival, but that does not really cut the mustard for long term storage.

On the left side I hover over the Personal label, say, and then click the down arrow to the right. In the list select Add sublabel and name it.

The Exchange server has a 32 K rule limitation for every user.
For this reason I need an Outlook 2003 addon to sort all incoming mails in special folders.
Is something like this anywhere available?

SORT? Sort by...?
Do you mean that you want your mails to be moved to certain folders depending on subject or who sent? If so, that is the Rules Wizard. In prior versions, it's under the Tools menu.

Ok so my inbox is categorized into subfolders. And one of them into another subfolder. After compacting the mail suddenly all my mail in one of the subfolders vanished. They're not hidden from the view nor are they in the deleted folder. I try the fix to look for them at the Recycle Bin but they're not there. I look at the store folder and the .dbx files are still there but somehow they're not showing at my Outlook Express? I tried doing system restore and all to no avail. Is there anyway I can fix this without purchasing something? Or any workaround.

And no unfortunately I do not have any backup.

Answer:Outlook Express 6 can't view emails but dbx still in store folders...

Microsoft has abandoned Outlook Express a long time ago in favor of Live Mail which is now If you upgrade to either Live Mail or you can import your .dbx files and your folders will probably appear.

I've got an ordinary GMail account, but suddenly having big problems today receiving any email notifications at all via Pop Peeper, due most likely I think to GMail overnight updating their security screenings. I've used PP for years and they're very good but sometimes it becomes a nightmare as GMail then treats PP as a potential security threat making it almost impossible to access your account without a barrage of questions and verifications, finally getting stuck in an endless loop answering the same questions over and over again.

Anyone know if GMail offer this same notification service as well so as to avoid all this hassle once and for all... ?

Not 100% sure as i dont use gmail as my primary email account. But; there might be a way to get it to notify. Have you tried setting it up with a mail program such as outlook or another one of the freebie mail programs like the one from mozilla? There might be a way to do it if you look in the settings for your mail account on the gmail site(not through any mail program).

The question really says all about what I want to do, or need help on. I recently signed up for a new outlook account to try out the new outlook preview and I've set up gmail to automatically forward new messages to my outlook account so that I can use outlook to manage my gmail account.

Do any of you know how I would be able to forward the old messages, and not the new ones, to my outlook? I already know that they can be fetched into outlook by outlook's very own service, forwarding would be faster, so..?! Also, since I now use outlook to send email on behalf of my gmail account, how do I make it sync each email I send using outlook with my gmail - so that gmail has it all?

Last year i bought a IBM laptop and they didnt provide any Window XP cd or any other CD and now my pc was infected by viruses which can't detected by any antivirus software..

what i can see is C drive is in Blue word and other folder in C drive are also in blue..

so, these are my questions:

1) since i only have the genuine lisence key (attached behind my laptop), how should i format my laptop since IBM didnt provide any Windows Xp Cd

2) Why my C drive and some few folders in the C drive are name in "Blue"?

I'm new to windows 7. Found this discrepancy when using App called GroupMail. It's mail importing of my recently new addresses did not coincide with what I was seeing in WLM folders. I'm finding store folders In C:user/contacts and in Crogram Files/Windows Mail/wab and Crogram Files (x86)/Windows Mail/wab which are all the same and different from WLM screen. Why? How do I change to get everything together for my app to work properly? Thanks for any insights!

Hi all, thanks in advance. I just downloaded TweakUI XP edition and messed something up. So I have my HD partitioned so that there is a partition for Program Files. I went into TweakUI Special Folders to change the destination. That worked great but now when I click on the Start button and go to program files, it shows all the files in those folders. And if I go to delete those files in the start menu, it actually deletes the program. Someone please help me fix this so that the actual folder doesn't show up in the Start Menu.

All my folders in My Documents just display as a plain yellow folder (default folder), whereas the My Music, My Pictures folders had the personalised icons on them, can anyone help me get these back again?

Assuming you are using XP, just right click on the folder and choose "Customize".

Hi all,

new win 7 install. Tried to move special folder from ssd to hdd.
Create a new folder on the hdd with the name of the profile. I then assumed when moving folder into it they will be automatically created
-> moved "downloads" folder first and selected that above folder without creating a "downloads" folder in that one and select that one. I realized something went wrong and wanted to move it back. On moving it back i made the same mistake, so the whole user profile folder is now the download folder and it is called "downloads" and not after the user name. However right-click does not work on that one. Can't change the path or move it.

Any ideas? Also tried in registry but with no success.

I recently shifted from thunderbird to outlook now i added all my emails but for some reason some of the emails are not showing inbox and other folders until i click on drop down on the email name. Why ?

This happens to only some of the emails. All emails are being received and sent but some email folders are not showing until i click on drop down of email.

Can anyone help....?I have tried moving the default locations of the Vista special folders now a few times by using the move location route. All seems to go well until at some point, something goes wrong or I do something wrong and I find a whole host of files being copied over when I know there is nothing in the default folder location as yet. These files seem to have nothing to do with the folder I am moving.What is happening? Trying to work it out and put everything back where it was does not see very straightforward. On this I much preferred XP. Right click myDocuments, Move, Browse, OK. Done. The whole lot. This way of doing it in Vista is a complete pain in the arse in comparison.For now I've given up and am just leaving them where they are, after another reinstall (no repair options as this is a recovery disk). But I don't want to be beaten by this. So can anyone suggest where I may be going wrong, if I am...?

On my vista installation, I have changed the locations of some of the special folders - contacts, desktop, links etc. I was wondering if anyone knows how to hide them in the user area because although you cannot see them when you manually navigate to your area using computer, if you double click on the icon for your area on the desktop or on the start menu you can still see the folders for them. They are like shortcuts. This confused me majorlly when I first installed vista because i just tried deleting them and then wondered why the special folder in the new location deleted too. It's because they are kind of like links and whatever you do to the links, affects the special folder regardless of it's location. This is why I cannot just try and hide them because it doesn't affect it at all - it just hides the special folders in the new location.

I recently migrated to Win10 Home Edition x64 from Win7. One thing that is absolutely maddening to me is the inability of seeing the full path in the navigation bar for special folders like "Downloads", "Desktop", "Images" and many more where just their names are displayed in the navigation bar.

However in Win7, clicking on that name instantly displayed and selected the full path (eg: D:\User\Downloads and not just Downloads). This is what I want to get back!

I like to have a few of these folders in the quick access area (Favorites in Win7). I tried deleting Downloads from the quick access and navigating to it by clicking-opening folders instead of just clicking on its link. When I do it this way, the path is correctly displayed (see previous pic). But if I pin it to the quick access, and then click on that link, it immediately reverts to only "Downloads".

This is stupid, I want to be able to know at all times where I am (I have 2 separate physical drives), and be able to copy the path to paste it in another program for example.

I haven't been able to find a solution so far ("Displaying full path in title bar" doesn't work for these special folders and is pointless since other folders already have their full path displayed in the navigation bar), please help!

i am trying to designate the my music folder so that it can be recognised by i tunes, as when i try to open this program it fails showing the error notice
"The folder iTunes cannot be found or created and is required. The default location for this folder is inside the Music folder"
the apple support site directed me to download and use Tweek UI to change the location of the my music folder, however this folder seems to be unrecognised by Tweek UI as it is not in the list of 'special folders'

I have a strange thing on 2 Windows 7 computers (not even tried on Windows 10).
When using a full path containing a '.' or '..' folder, the application fails to install the product but Inside the BATCH, all is working.

Whenever I try to change a file properties to one with special letters it's automatically changes the letter to '?'.

For exaple: If I have a .mp3 sonf file and I go to the file's properties-> Details. And in the Title I want to change to name to "Ma?ana" ('tomorrow' in Spanish), I click OK and then go to the properties again and it says: "Ma?ana".

How can I change it so that these kind of special letters will remain and not change to the question mark?

Hello everyone,

I'm planning how to make use of my spiffy new 80GB SSD. My current system came preinstalled with a 1TB drive containing a single C partition storing everything (plus a couple of hidden partitions for Dell Restore etc.), which died and was replaced with a 2TB drive, and the former drive image restored to the new HDD. (This leaves me with 1TB currently unallocated.) My plan is to:
Create a D partition from the free 1TB
Move my data to D (e.g. from C:\Users\Charles\My Videos to D:\Charles\My Real Videos)
Add each new D folder to the appropriate library (e.g. Add D:\Charles\My Real Videos to the Videos library, and set it as the default save location)
Defrag and image my C drive (now only containing OS + programs + app data + remnants of my old, empty user folders) to the SSD
Delete the C partition from my HDD
Expand the D partition to the full 2TB on my HDD
Install the SSD as the new C boot drive
Notes:I'm using Win7 libraries instead of the old technique of moving user folders' location. Is this the preferred method nowadays?
I'm leaving AppData on the system drive — too many users have had serious trouble, even when making no mistake in the process. (e.g. can't update from Win8 to 8.1) Do you agree that it's an acceptable compromise to leave AppData alone? I really wanted complete separation between static OS/programs and dynamic data/settings, but the problems seem like a dealbreaker. Is there anything wrong with leaving AppData on the C drive? There's many ways to skin a cat. Here's my variation:

My 80 GB SSD contains C, all applications, and appdata

My 1 TB HDD is D and contains all personal data.

I don't use libraries. I don't use C:\users at all personally, although Windows sticks some stuff there. My appdata is under C:\Users\myusername. I almost never look at C:\users. I image the C partition monthly.

I save directly to the D drive and back it up daily.

I have my laptop hard drive partitioned as 3 separate simple volumes.

The largest partition contains WinVista and programs. The second partition contains all my data files (D drive). I've got the Documents link pointing to D:\users\don\Documents. I've got Vista configured to read my personal desktop items (the ones accessible only from my user account) from D:\users\don\Desktop. etc etc.

I've got got an automated backup that backs up the entire contents of my D drive nightly.

Now the question is how can I make it so that when a new user is created, the new user has the same settings?

Hi everyone,

I've made the switch to Windows 10 for about a week or so now. So far almost everything is working just as I wanted, except some sorting annoyances with File Explorer.

For unknown reasons, file sort settings for special folders like Desktop, Documents, Download are not saved. I always sort my files/folders by date (Descending: New above, old below) so that I can access to files that I use the most or recent downloaded file. The sort setting seem to work with all folders except the mentioned above. Moreover, the sorting for these folders seem to be random (not 100% sure). For instance, my Desktop would sort files and folders by Name, while my Download folder sorts file by Date (but ascending!).

In all.. those special folders are a mess! I have to move forward and backward non-stop between them as I work but their settings just keep resetting!
I should probably move my working folders to some other location and forget about it. But doing that mean I have to make changes for all my PCs so I'd like to explore a fix before making those changes.

Any helps, tweaks to fix this will be greatly appreciated!

Hey fellas,

Im using gmail (google apps) to store company's email.
Mail directly endsup into respective user's gmail accounts.
It all work upto this point. All gmail account have POP enabled.

I am running a mail server (hmailserver) on local network. The mail server can fetch mail from regular POP accounts but not GMail's POP as it uses POP over SSL.

Is there an alternate free/opensource mailserver which can fetch local users' mail from his/her respective gmail account (POP SSL).

As some of you might suggest that I can run a mail server directly over the internet and setup domain's MX to point to my IP but I can't; as the net connectivity isn't reliable enough to handle emails thus I wish to use gmail's storage and uptime reliability.

Ok, I have managed to screw up my system and need help.

After a recent major cleanup, Windows XP's special folders will not open properly when I double-click them on the desktop. I get a "File does not have a program associated with it ..." error instead. I can still access the folders by rightclick and selecting 'Explore', I just can't double-click from the desktop.

Now, before any helpful folks write back with info on how to set file associations, let me say that I already know how. But, it seems that Window's special folders (i.e. My Documents, My Computer, Control panel and the Recycle Bin), are not really files or true folders - they are called 'Special folders'. Also, the problem is self-induced and not the result of a virus or spyware issue - I have done it to myself. Too bad I don't have a recent registry backup or System Restore point I can use.

So, my question is how to I fuss with the default associations on the 'Special folders'?

The only clue I have so far is that there's a feature in the registry called "CLSID" which I have caught traces of information suggesting that's where I need to look.

If you add an account in the (Email + Accounts) in the setting section, your contacts should sync with the phone. Make sure they are not filtered out in the Contacts settings area.

I just started typing out an email in gmail's web application. I needed to cut or copy the text to Outlook but it wouldn't give me that option. Is there a way to do that or are you stuck once you start with the only option of deleting? I even went to my draft sub folder and it wouldn't let me move the text.

I have just recently converted from using Windows Live Mail for my email to Gmail. Mainly because there was not an easy way to sync my contacts between WLM and my Android smartphone. Syncing is much better now, but the system differences is taking some getting used to. I notice when I am using Gmail and search for a past email, many times Gmail doesn't find it. I try it searching by contact name, by contact email address, and by subject. Of course, I can scroll back through my old emails and find it manually, but it is frustrating that Gmail cannot spot it quickly. It seems to have the most trouble when I am trying to find a SENT email. Sometimes, one I just sent yesterday. I click on the "Sent Mail" folder and the search box shows "in:sent". I type the info and nothing is found. I have tried it backspacing over the "in:sent", and with leaving the "in:sent" in place before my info. Neither way seems to help. Is there a setting I am missing?

I'm trying to move all the old emails in my university OWA to gmail just to keep a record. I already know how to 'forward future incoming emails' using the rule option, but what I'm hoping to do is to move all the old emails that are already in the OWA. Is there anyway that I can do this without forwarding each email one by one ? (I have 300 ish emails!). I just want to keep a copy of all the communications, so either to forward them or to keep them as a file (in whatever format) will do just fine for me.

Hi everyone,

I was sorting out all my emails, all 4000+ emails that has conjured up in each sub folder in my account. I must of miss-read or miss-clicked or accidentally gone into all mail & deleted all my emails. Most of them I diddnt want, but there was 3 categories of emails I wanted to keep, my work union, iTunes & O2 emails. Is there any way of getting these back by contacting google or going through a process? (there not in my trash mail by the way)

Hi all, have changed my email to so I do not keep changing my address when I change servers. Some emails that I am expecting are not arriving. Ebay always send an email after you order and they always come through straight away, placed 2 orders but no emails. Some sites are sending an email when I order. Does anyone know how I fix this assuming it is the account.

Every once in a while I'll have an email discussion with someone blow up.  All of the emails are open, and they are in backwards order each in indenting a little off from the other one on their left margins, and they form a kind of systematic tree where they branch off of each other systematically.
I can't figure out how to put them back into order, and close them.  
After that the gmail thread is totally shot, so I have to begin in another one.  
It's done this for years.

You need to post screen shots.   I have never seen Gmail "permanently unthread" a threaded discussion though you can change views.  The relationship is in the e-mail headers themselves and all the e-mail client (or web interface) does is use that information to create a threaded view/conversation view.

I have noticed on many occassions that when people send me an email to our business email account it says something like -

"[email protected] on behalf of Joe Blogs <[email protected]"

How do people do this?

I can see one advantage of doing this because I could use any computer or mobile device to log into my Gmail account and check my business emails. Our current set up would require me to lug around my laptop.

Does this have something to do with the domain mapping options?

Are there any disadvantages to doing it this way? Will the original email still 'live' on our business server so it can be retrieved via Outlook 2010?

Any help or direction would be appreciated!

I have registered in some blog or forum sites. I was oblivious of the item of "receive news from the site". Now I've got like hundreds of emails from those sites, which really annoyed me. Is there a quick settings in Gmail, which enables me block those emails with just a few clicks? Or do I have to go to those sites, sign in and find the button to cancel subscription? Thank you for your help.

It will be usually listed as a link with name 'unsubscribe' or 'stop receiving the updates' etc.

Hi,Just recently the emails that were going into my WLM account are being redirected
into my gmail account.
I sent a test email from WLM which goes into my sent folder but not my inbox.
Is there a way to set it up so that gmail goes to gmail account and my emails
go into my WLM account.

What do you mean by "WLM account" ?
Is this an, or, or ISP (btinternet), or ... account?
WLM (Windows Live Mail) is a Client (installed on PC) email program and can have many email accounts.
Do you have multiple accounts setup in WLM?
Every email provider I know of also has a WEB site where the user can read/send/manage email.
Are you using WLM for some email, and WEB email for other email?
Each email provider may offer different protocols such as IMAP, POP, MAPI and that can make a difference in what folders are used for a client program such as WLM.

Then there's a "Windows Live account" if that's what you're talking about, and Skype can affect things from what I've read...

I have 2 hotmail accounts here - 1 is MAPI, and 1 is a gmail and outlook account...
I mainly use Office Outlook for all my email, but I do use WLM on "test" systems for email that I know I don't need to keep ...

A long time back, all my emails started going into my allmail box instead of my inbox.
Most of the time, that doesn;t bother me. But there are times, when i lose focus on the allmail.
Then I have to try and remember the shortcut to get back to allmail, or to go the sibebar, where Inbox is on top and below that "important" and so on. But to get to allmail, you have to go down to more, and find AllMail as a submenu in that. It might even be necessary to make the browser page smaller, so you can see the More menu.
So is it possible to either (a) get messages to go into inbox, or to bring Allmail up to the top of the sidebar, where Inbox is located.
The second one would be my first choice, as that's where my most of all my emails are ie in allmail.
But if i can only do the first thing ie get messages to appear in my inbox, is there a way to move all mails in my allmail box to my inbox?

update. Okay, after all these years, i have found out that all mail refers to archived mail.
So if all my mail is going into archived mail, does that mean that at one stage, i chose to have all my mail be archived. Perhaps I hit something invaderntly.
I came upon this, because I had another question about Archived mail. I was wondering if I was looking at mail, in all mail, and ticked a post, and chose to archive it, and then deleted it, was it still in the archive. But as I am in the archive (all mail) I am deleting it from the archive, or am I.

No, All Mail is exactly what it says. Mail in every location: Inbox, any folders you created, archived emails, trash and spam.
There is a label in front of the subject line telling you where that particular email is located.
When you delete from the archive it moves to trash. You will see it in All Mail with Trash in front of the subject.
You can also see it if you open Trash.

Go to settings: (gear icon) then click on labels. If you cahnge All Mail from Hide to Show it will appear at the top rather than having to click the arrow aside of More.

Hello tech guys,

used to move some emails coming into the promotion tab to be received into the primary [inbox] directly,
after this I noticed that some of the newsletter senders keep flooding with lot of emails everyday,
I wanted to return them into the promotions tab,
I tried to practice the same steps - by:
filter message like this >> next >> create filter >>
but this did not work,
I tried this several times but still coming into my inbox directly, and I dont want to block or spam them.
just to redirect into the promotions tab,

Lol, you either intentionally or unintentionally sent a unsubscribe and, gmail is telling you it could not connect to the listed address and that it will try for two more days before giving up. What part of the message couldn't you figure out?

For about a week now I have not been able to connect to Gmail/Facebook/iTunes Music Store or software server/FTP.

I've tried IE, Mozilla, Opera...all cannot connect

I've released/renewed my IP.

I've run Ad Aware

I tried running Spybot but couldn't access their update server to search and destroy

I tried the computer in a different location to see if there was something wrong with my ISP and it still doesn't work.

I have a gmail account that has received emails from paypal, which contain customer email addresses. Since I can't access emails past a month in paypal, it would be ideal if I could get every email address in an email sent by paypal to me and then copy it to a text file. I'd like to use the list for mass mailing product reminders, etc. Before I spend the time to write a script, has anyone heard of software that will do that? Thanks for your help!

If that sounded confusing, I need a script that will search through a specified set of emails, extract every address in those emails, and then copy them to a txt file.

Sorry but this cant be done. At least not by hacing the script go online and search GMail. Now if you use something like Thunderbird, Outlook or Windows Live Mail that stores the mail locally, then you might be able to do something. But AFAIK nothing like this exists.

To be honest if your getting 1000s of spam emails a day/week/month I would be creating a new Gmail account as that one will only keep getting those volumes of spam as its now on many spam email lists, which is why its wise to keep your main email account only for friends and create a sperate one/s for signing upto forums, newletters etc

Hello All,

Please suggest me is this is a good idea. I have approx. 10 GB of emails stored in my Gmail account. Since Gmail offer only 15 GB of the free space, I had to create a new account and start using it. I see Yahoo Mail! give 1 TB of emails storage? I already have one yahoo account. I have below questions:
How can I transfer emails from Gmail to Yahoo (easy and quick, I already know the MS outlook way - accessing IMAP of both and then transferring from one account to another simply by moving, its time consuming and hangs all time)
Is is okay to transfer to Yahoo! Would I be facing any trouble with it? Like accessing mails. Often seen, yahoo has pathetic user interface and not comfortable to use.
Any other way for email storage, I just wanna free space from my loved Gmail account and continue using it.

I primarily use Windows Mail for my work at home job. I also have a Gmail account so I can check for e-mails on my iphone when I'm out. I want to have it set up so that the emails show up in both places, Windows Mail and Gmail.

Currently if my desktop computer is turned off and my Windows Mail program is not open, the incoming emails only go to Gmail and not Windows mail. OR, if my computer is up and running but the Windows mail doesn't happen to be open, the emails only go to Gmail and not Windows Mail. Seems like if my browser (IE8) is open but windows mail is not open, emails will only go to Gmail.

Do I have some settings wrong which would make the emails not show up in Windows Mail?

I am running Windows Vista, 64 bit.

While researching for this issue, found a link which might help in fixing the issue: Leaving Mail on the Server with Windows Mail | Tiger Technologies Support

Ensure to check the box ?Leave a copy of messages on the server? and uncheck ?Remove from server after? and ?Remove from server when deleted from deleted items?. Click Apply and then OK.

Check if the new messages appear in Windows Mails and Gmail.

So im wanting to transfer my Emails from Hotmail without simply forwarding them (id like to keep the original address in them) i found a guide here that used Eudora and Hotmail Popper but the guide is very vague and i couldnt get it to work. Is there another way or a better guide out there? After a hour and a half searching through google and the Eudora forums i have come up with nothing on how to get this to work or any other options. Please HELP!

I have been trying to follow this guide to get my local emails uploaded onto Gmail:

Unfortunately it seems that this guide is for Outlook users, and I use thunderbird. Does anybody know of a way to import local emails from Thunderbird to Gmail?

I've heard of the "Gmail Loader" program, but AFAIK this program will strip the emails of their original send dates. What I'd really like is for a solution where all my local messages can be sent and stored on Gmail, with the original sender information retained, and the original send dates retained. Any ideas? I've set up my Gmail account for reading emails via IMAP and sending emails all with Mozilla's Thunderbird. I followed Google's directions on how to setup the client to work with Thunderbird. It reads the emails correctly but when I send emails I get:
"An error occured while sending mail. The mail server responded: INCORRECT DOMAIN IN MAIL/RCPT COMMAND. Please verify that your email address is correct in your Mail preferences and try again."

As it suggests I check the outgoing mail setting and try again with the same results.

Has anyone else run into this issue and how did you resolve it?

I have always used Hotmail with Outlook Express - I can send and receive Hotmail emails from my PC. But now that Microsoft have threatened to withdraw free POP access, I have decided to try GMail.
I have got my GMail working with Outlook Express. I can download all my received emails into a folder on my PC, but I do not appear to be able to download my sent emails.

Is there a way to do this?

Hi, when I searched the forums for posts on Microsoft outlook I found posts in the windows and the computer software areas, a majority of the posts appeared here so I thought I'd try posting here.Okay, here's my situation: I currently have an email account with Adelphia and I use Microsoft Outlook 2003 to access that it account.  I setup Outlook so that when I receive the emails from the Adelphia account Outlook removes them and transfers them to Outlook (meaning a copy of the emails don't remain in my Adelphia inbox).  I've decided that I want to stop using Outlook, mainly due to the fact that it makes it difficult to access my emails from computers not on my network account.  I've decided to switch to a gmail account (for other reasons involving irritation with Adelphia).My problem is that I can't figure out how to get my emails from Outlook 2003 to my new gmail account.  I've looked in the questions and answers section, the forum, and both faq on gmail and outlook official pages and still can't figure it out.  I think I've figured out a way to redirect new incoming mail, but that's not my concern what I need is to redirect my old emails.  I know that I could just forward all of my old emails to my new gmail account, but that will be a huge hassle and the emails would then show up as being sent from me and not the original sender.  If I can't figure out another solution I'll do th... I'm not absolutely sure but I doubt very much this can be done.  Think about it.  With Outlook, your mail is on your hard drive, not out on the Internet.  With Gmail, it is out on the Internet; it's web-based mail.  I looked at the info on Gmail on Google's site and, like you, found nothing about transferring mail from Outlook.  So, I no other option but to forward the mail to yourself if you really must get it all moved over to Gmail.

Hi All,

I use outlook for about 4 email addresses (work and personal). I also do volunteer work for a charity and have an email address for that which is a gmail account.

I have tried repeatedly to set this gmail account up in Outlook but it didn't work. The only way I have found is to have two separate outlook account where I choose if I want to open my normal account of the charity account but cannot do both at the same time.

This is very frustrating as I need to be able to see my calendar and contacts when using the charity account.

Evidently, 60 some accounts have been compromised at Gmail - all emails w/in these accounts were 'lost'. One thought is that there was/is a flaw w/in Firefox that allowed XXS to manipulate and then cause harm. While only a very small fraction of Gmail users, this does bring to light at least two points:

1. If it is important to you, backup your email via whatever method you so desire.
2. Technology, time, and evilness in the wrong hands can mess up the 'best' systems; ie: Firefox browser and/or Google's Gmail.

I can't access emails of more than a month old in gmail. I created folders for emails that I wanted to keep, but gmail's inbox states to get messages that are more than one month go to settings. I have gone into settings but I can't get access my emails of over a month. I take screenshots of all emails I want to keep and put them in a file and if I don't I can't access them. How I can file\keep the emails that I want, as there is no facility for me to save. The contents of gmail's inbox folders are then removed after one month.

I have set up the above import and it is working, but my actual TalkTalk inbox is now empty.
I must have missed a tick box somewhere for still leaving the mails on TT, but now I can't find the option.

I use gmail quite a bit. I had it working fine with outlook 2013 until I tried to add another gmail account to outlook. I t opened a microsoft dialog bog that said the following:"Your IMAP server want to alert you to the followinglease log via your web browser: (failure). As a result of posting an offer to donate some furniture I no longer needed, I received a response and started to reply. During the time I was working on that reply I received another response. I wanted my reply to only go to the first response, as this was his instructions for collection, but, to my horror, the reply went to the second responder (only) and, judging from the email I then got back from that responder, included both initial responses.
Not only do I have to honour an unintentional offer, but the email address of the first responder has been compromised.
This new streaming concept has very important flaws. Clearly, now clicking reply to you still need to check who the email is going to before you send it, and it looks like you also can't be certain quite what you are sending - perhaps its better to start a new email and cat and paste as required to show what you are responding to.
Is this a case of Gmail trying to be cleaver and just being too clever for OUR own good!
I have posted this also on Gmail, so it will be interesting to see if they respond

For years I have used my own domain email addresses hosted with Gmail for all my email requirements, and have had no problems. My settings with Gmail are such that the message on the server is deleted once it has been accessed via Thunderbird.
One thing confuses me though. If I am away on holiday, I sometimes access my messages directly from Gmail using a tablet, and as most of them are unimportant, I then delete them manually from Gmail and then also delete them from the 'bin' folder. However, when I return home at the end of the holiday and switch on my PC, all the messages are then downloaded to Thunderbird, though I have deleted them previously.
Obviously the reason for accessing them on holiday is to avoid having hundreds of messages when I return home, but clearly I am failing to achieve this. Can somebody please explain why this happens, and how I stop it.

Hi there,

I've recently set my parents up with a Gmail account but am having problems with transferring their emails from an Outlook PST file to their new account. I've tried following the tutorial at the link below without success - mainly due to the fact that Outlook seems to be very unstable on their machine (hence the change to Gmail).

Are there any other ways of migrating these emails across to their new account? Note that the migration tool offered by Google does not work as the Gmail account isn't connected to Google Apps for Business.

One possible solution is that I could migrate their emails via my Google Apps for Business account though I imagine it would take forever to then forward these emails onto them (most likely manually using the Forward) option?

I use Outlook 2010 which syncs to my IMAP Gmail account.
This works very well.

Today something happening in Outlook (I might have dragged something, I don't know) and my mails (12,500 of them) ended up in Outlook's deleted items folder. Some Gmail folders just vanished, like Sent Items, Bin and Spam.

I immediately quit Oulook before it synced so all my mails are still safe on Gmail's servers. I checked via logging in to the Gmail website and also disabled IMAP to be safe.

I need some advice on how to fix the emails in Outlook.
I'm afraid that if I start syncing the mails will be lost from Gmail.
I also don't want to start a new Outlook .pst file as there are many gigs of emails to sync.

Does anyone have some advice?

At work we are running 2 email accounts (both IMAP) one is our Admin and the other the Boss's, but something very odd is occurring.The admin account on one machine does not seem to 'keep' messages. A new email will arrive, and can be read, but with in 10-15 minutes its no longer available, today for example, we've received around 15 emails, but there no longer in the Inbox,The Boss's account on the same machine (and same outlook) seems to be keeping them fine, and I can read messages in the inbox from weeks ago.Another machine in the office also has Outlook 07, and access to the Admin and Boss IMAP accounts, and stores them no problem.I've rigorously gone through both account settings on both machines to find what the problem is, but to no avail.Any help here would be appreciated-Nic Apps

Recently I synced Outlook with my Gmail account so that I could get a full interface without having to use a browser. My laptop crashed and now I can't access all of the emails I was able to access through my laptop using Outlook. When I set up Outlook, it only imported the emails from after the crash. Obviously the emails aren't stored on the laptop, so they have to be somewhere. Anyone know how I go about getting those emails back? They are important... Any help would be much appreciated.

you can have the files on your gmail account
log into gmail on the web
and look at the "all mail" folder see if they have been moved to there
also look at the POP settings and see how its set up after the emails have been transfered to outlook - you may have set them up to be deleted

In gmail I have emails being forwarded from another gmail account. If the email was sent from A (random friend) to B (my other gmail account) and I click 'Reply' in account C (The gmail I currently use, where it's being imported) then automatically in the 'To' section, it shows A's email address. That's perfect. Cause obviously when I click reply I want to reply to the person who emailed me, not to my other email address.

But when I'm in gmail and I use the "Import" function to import emails from my yahoo account, when I click 'Reply' it automatically fills in the 'To' as my yahoo account. I don't want to email myself and I don't know why it handles it this way. Does anyone know why?

I have set up a gmail account recently. I changed my password and waited for the verification email.
It never arrived. I have checked Spam and Trash and Inbox and also my other server, BT Yahoo but
there is no sign of it.

My gmail was hacked yesterday and a lot of emails were sent out in the space of half an hour (I found out it had happened when I checked my mail during that half hour) which were all - it appears - returned as spam. The person changed the sender name when he sent them out. I managed to change my security, making it much tighter, but I am somewhat paranoid about the mails (which looked to be encrypted to me, but not sure) to to nearly two thousand email addresses ending in .ru.
I considered that my email password was strong, but someone still managed to get in.
My big worry is that information about my credit card accounts, etc., was gathered, though there were no passwords or anything like that in my email account. I am in the process of changing passwords all over the place. Just very paranoid, and such a horrible feeling of someone getting into my account. Paranoid about all the encryption too.
Any suggestions as to what I should still do which I have not yet done (I have removed all the strange contacts, done two-step notification passwords, made a new account for banking only, told friends not to click on any strange links from me, and that's about it) will be much appreciated.

I would do some general scans, and post a HJT log etc to the malware removal forum to check if you're infected with some kind of RAT / Keylogger. Change all passwords from a DIFFERENT computer if possible, try to make sure it's clean. Other than this I can't think of anything else you can do. Your mail was used to send emails that could be used for any purpose. I'd also create a new mail account, just incase.

My gmail account has been compromised. Something is sending emails from my gmail account to my contacts. In the sent mail folder there are four emails I didn't write that were sent to my contacts. They included links and little else. My inbox was also full of returned mail items that said "Malier Delivery System - Permanent delivery failure". My logs are below. Thanks in advance!!!

so I just connected outlook 07 with my gmail account, after deleting unwanted emails in outlook, the deleted emails still marked as unread and still there in my gmail account.

Depending on how you're connecting to gmail it may not be possible. I know it's not possible to delete emails on the web server if you're using an HTTP or IMAP connection. By default, most tutorials tell you to use IMAP and POP isn't enabled be default on a gmail account.

To Enable Pop in Gmail:

1. Sign in to Gmail.
2. Click Settings at the top of any Gmail page.
3. Click Forwarding and POP/IMAP.
4. Select Enable POP for all mail or Enable POP for mail that arrives from now on.
5. Choose what to do with your messages after they're accessed with your POP client or device.
6. Configure your POP client* and click Save Changes.

To Configure Outlook 2007 to connect via POP:

1. Enable POP in your email account. Don't forget to click Save Changes.
2. Open Outlook.
3. Click the Tools menu, and select Account Settings...
4. On the E-mail tab, click New...
5. If you are prompted to Choose E-mail Service, Select POP and then select Next.
6. Fill in all necessary fields to include the following information:

OK...Running Vista Home Basic on my Dell PC...5 days ago at 9:23pm I received my last email in Outlook (2007). Computer was idle at work. No problems for 4 years until now. 2 weeks ago went with a new ISP and did not change the codes for SMTP/Pop3/Imap because it was all working the exact same way--frankly, didn't think about it. Come in and there are no new emails. Hit Send/Receive and nothing happens. NO WAY, I get 50 a day. Go to Gmail account and it stopped at the same time. Find all new messages in Trash folder then all filters were removed to see what happened next. Emails were visible on screen (inbox) after that-and still are. After that, gmail icon started showing bottom right of my screen with my incoming emails--FROM 2009/10/11! All I had deleted last year and I am sure I emtied. My Outlook number of items in Inbox continues to grow every time I hit Send/Receive, lines "bounce" on screen as if items are going to appear but they don't. I get the outlook envelope showing emails from January to March 2012 downloading along with New Items in Mailbox icon as of today. I can hit on the email as it (icon) pops up and read it but if it passes it is totally GONE! Since gmail was fixed, about 7000 emails have gone into my inbox but not one of them are visible. I feel it will continue to download until we get to the present date as it is downloading from past to present. Any chance your old ISP was Rogers?

I thought that when you use POP , your email address is hosted and stored by the ISP.
Meaning, say your ISP was called Teleweb, your email address would have been [email protected].

I'm confused as to why you did not need to change the POP settings if you changed ISPs.

Im thinking your old ISP cancelled or disabled your email account, which may be contributing to the problem.

Also Gmail is webmail, so ISPs cannot influence how Gmail behaves. Were you forwarding your mail to the gmail account?
