Preferred Solution: Toshiba Satellite Screen Pro - screen issue

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Toshiba Satellite Screen Pro - screen issue

Try it with an external monitor. If it is working than your screen is faulty. If not than probably it is a graphics card issue.

Opened my daughter's laptop this morning and it seems like the LCD has "dissolved" in the left bottom of the screen. There's no identation on the screen or any sign of damage. The liquid crystal just seemed "smeared" or something in the corner. Any thoughts? I'm not a technie so sorry if I don't know all the terminology... I purchased this for her for Christmas at Office Depot so it's only a few months old. Please help! Thanks mucho!

Answer:Issue with Toshiba Satellite Screen

The LCD screen could have been damaged by placing a heavy object on the top of the closed laptop or by bumping or dropping. It doesn't take much... The LCD panel might be under warranty. Its worth checking into. Otherwise, it is expensive to replace. They cannot be repaired

My new Toshiba Satellite P870 Starts with Screen Flickering 1,2 or 3 times with every start, exactly AFTER Toshiba, Leading Innovation Logo starts.

Anybody can help?

Thank You In Advanced!

Answer:Re: Satellite P870 - screen flickers for some time after Toshiba splash screen

I don?t know how it looks like but something like this should not happen. If you have brand new notebook contact your local dealer as soon as possible, explain the situation and ask for replacement.

If you are not happy with your product you can get replacement. In my country customers have 14 days time to do this.

Hi, I'm having trouble with the screen on my Toshiba Satellite L775-S7352 when it reaches the Welcome screen on Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. This happens while reaching the Windows Welcome screen & sometimes it will reach the desktop before going fuzzy. It boots fine into Safe Mode.

I've already checked the HDD and the Memory - they are fine... I've done a fresh install of Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit from the manufacturer's recovery disks - the screen and everything else worked fine even through the first round of Windows Update (193 files) the machine rebooted after the updates and I checked for more updates. As soon as the installation of the second round of updates began the screen went buggy.

So I formatted the HDD and tried another reinstall - I successfully reinstalled the system and this time the screen went buggy trying to search for the first update for this reinstall...

Is this an issue with the screen or the GPU? any ideas?

Answer:Toshiba satellite P300 (-1CD) won't boot past toshiba splash screen.

Perform the following steps:
-Remove the battery and Power adapter
-Press and hold the power button for 30-45 seconds (with battery and power still removed)
-Insert just the battery and attempt to boot the laptop.
-Insert just the power adapter and attempt to boot the laptop.

If still unsuccessful: Remember to remove battery and power before removing/installing components

-Remove the power and battery
-Remove the hard drive from the laptop and attempt to boot with the battery installed. Do you receive any error message?
-Remove the memory modules from the laptop
-Insert just the battery and attempt to start the laptop (you should receive beep error)
-Try inserting just one module of memory and test (swapping modules after each attempt)
-Remove the optical drive and test.
-Try disconnecting the CMOS battery for a few minutes then re-connect and try.

The lcd screen backlight work fine, but screen is reddish. When I connect the external monitor to the laptop the video is great. When I installed a another used lcd screen into laptop the is white, and no video. So, I ordered another video cable hoping that this will fix the problem. What could cause the lcd screen to be white? The external monitor work good with the laptop, I am not getting any video to the lcd screen. Could the video on the motherboard be bad?

Answer:toshiba satellite a40 laptop-LCD SCREEN

I don't think you have a bad video card if the image on the external monitor is fine. It sounds like its either the video cable or the backlight inverter. If the original lcd screen is bright enough and clear enough (except for the reddish tint) then I'd suggest trying the new video cable with the old screen. If you still get a reddish tint then I'd recommend replacing the backlight inverter (if you can - not all laptops allow this).

The only reason I can think the new screen isn't working is due to no/out-of-date/incompatible drivers. Still, not sure why the screen would be white. Have you tried the screen with a different laptop?

And How to fix?

Answer:Toshiba satellite screen went black ?

It sounds like a disk error or start-up error - take it back if it's still on warranty because you probably need to reformat (delete everything) and reinstall Windows.

Alright, so im not sure if this is software or hardware issue, but my satellite restarted for an update about a week ago and turned back on with a black screen. I tried taking the battery out, pressing the power button for 60 seconds, restarting it, starting in it safe mode, factory resetting it on startup. Nothing. Sometimes the fan will be running, then the machine stops. Sometimes it will just run and stay on the black screen. Sometimes it will start up and the power button wont even be lit, but the fans, and the led for caps lock will be on. Is it time for a new computer, or is there a way to fix this?

Toshiba Satellite L755-S5153
Windows 10.

It was upgraded to Windows 10 sometime last week. Ran fine for a few days, then when they went to turn it on a few days ago, it flashed the Toshiba splash screen and the screen went black. Now, when you turn it on the power button comes on and hard drive light flashes, like it's accessing the hard drive. The fans also kick on, but it sounds like it's pulsating.
The screen itself does not come on at all, no back light or anything it just looks like it's still turned off.

I pulled the hard drive and backed up the files on it as a precaution, when doing so I tried to boot the system without it to see if it kicked me out to needing a media to boot from, but it acts the same, except that the hard drive light still flashes like it's trying to access the hard drive that's no longer there.

Any ideas on how I should proceed, or any idea what caused this?

** Sorry for sounding scatterbrained, long day at work.

Answer:Toshiba Satellite, Screen Doesn't Come On.

The first thing to try on any laptop with a blank screen is an external monitor. If it is connected and on, most laptops will use it when you turn on the laptop; but, some may make you fuss with the key which looks like a screen somewhere along the top.
If the external monitor works, try reseating the video cable on the system board end.

Hi everyone, I'm very sorry if this has been asked and answered before. I have a Toshiba Satellite L305 series laptop running windows vista home premium. Last week I got a blue screen that I didn't read in time so I don't know what it said, and then it shut down. I tried to restart it but only get to a black screen with a moveable white arrow. I tried using windows startup repair, it gives me a white bar at the bottem that says loading files then the windows copyright screen but then just does the same thing and goes back to the black screen. I've tried booting in safe mode, booting with last known good configuration, and system recovery. I've also tried using a recovery disc, that I had to buy from toshiba b/c I lost my disc in a move, to no avail just the same black screen. Any help would be greatly appreciated. BTW when I put the recovery disc in you can hear the disc spinning and the fans working until it gets to the windows copyright page then everything dies down and black screen time.

Answer:Toshiba Satellite L675 LCD screen

When this happened on a granddaughters Toshiba it was due to a make up spray "wicking" through the rim. A new screen was needed as there was a bit of "shorting" on th circuit board concerned.

hi everyone,

I have a toshiba satelite pro 4270 laptop, and have finally got pretty much everything configured correctly and sorted out after expperiencing RAM propblems. Right, so heres the slight problem with the laptop, which involves the screen. The screen is 13" and (unfortunately) has a max resolution of 800x600. Basically the problem is the screen is verry laggy, and when i type on MS Word, it takes like two seconds for the text to come up on the screen, and the laggyness is making using the laptop a negative experience. I first suspected the graphics were not up to the job of displaying xp, but i connected the laptop up to an external monitor, and the laggyness problem is gone. There were also a few older games i was intending up install on the laptop, but there is no point due to this problem.

Does anyone know wether toshiba just made duff screens on toshiba laptops, or wether there is any way to change screen response rate?

many thanks in advance!

Answer:Toshiba Satellite Pro- Laggy Screen

this sounds like a driver issue. Ensure your drivers are up to date.

Hi guys. my mate rang me up today and said that their laptop screen just went blank. i asked what happened and they said it just went like that. i have read about inverters or backlight. How can i fix it cause its out of warranty. also how do i get stuff off the hdd if the comp is really dead? Can i just take it out like a pc and hook it up to another? Any help would be great
i will post more if i find out anything else about it.
Cheers Matt

Answer:toshiba satellite blank screen

If you can shine a light through the back and still read the writing on the screen (it will be extremely dim) then it could be a bad inverter or backlight. If you test it out and can't see any writing on the screen using a blacklight then the screen has gone out and will need to be replaced.

I got a Toshiba Satellite S50, it?s about 6 months old. Now when I turn it on all I get is the "Toshiba leading innovations" screen and that?s it.

It doesn?t go past that, just stays there. I can get into bios, I don?t have the original hard drive that came with the laptop, I have a 500gb 2,5" Toshiba hard drive. I want to put my windows 8 on the hard drive.
I?ve created a bootable USB with windows 8 on it, set the laptop to boot from USB, changed to UEFI BOOT but nothing happens when I reboot the laptop. it just stays on the "Toshiba leading innovations" screen.

Any ideas what I can do or is the motherboard knackered?
I?m assuming the warranty is out the window as the original hard drive is not in my possession as the original owner took it out as it had his private data on it. Will Toshiba fix this for me?

I only want it to pass that ?Toshiba screen..but no joy..

Answer:Satellite S50 - cannot pass Toshiba welcome screen

Hi Billy,

In the BIOS have you also enabled 'Secure Boot' under the 'Security' options in the BIOS, WIndows 8.1 requires this to be enabled.

Also your warranty will depend on if the HDD is 'User Accesible' - did you have to remove the whole bottom cover to change the HDD or just remove a door? If you only had to remove a door you will not have voided your warranty as this is a User Accesible part, if the HDD is the cause of the problem you will be charged for repair, if the Motherboard is the cause you should not be charged.

Hope this helps,

Simple Story...

Laptop fell down from about 2 - 2.5 feet and when I tried to turn it on again the screen went blank. I mean, it's blank right now, the only way I can use the laptop is if I connect it to a standard monitor, but alone it will just show a white display.

Any suggestions on what this can be? messed up VC? maybe Busted LCD? Dunno at this point any suggestions/solutions/help is appreciated .

Answer:Toshiba satellite A75 White Screen

Fixed it. Removed LCD Display, small white cable behind the display was completely off, re-inserted cable, everything is fine now .

Okay so I'll explain what happened from the start;
I use Steam on my TOSHIBA laptop to play online games with my friends, and occasionally my laptop loses connection to the internet which comes on about two seconds later, now usually this doesn't effect anything and nothing bad happens, however one night when I was using Source Filmmaker on my laptop the Internet dropped its connection for a minuet, again I wasn't alarmed because nothing ever happens, then the program closed on me as well as Steam, I made sure everything wasn't open before I safely restarted the laptop, one it booted up I clicked on the program again to open it, Steam opened without error and then SFM said it had an disc read error when I tried to open it, I simply validated its content files and discovered it had a new update it had to do, however during this update it would tell me it was fully downloaded and ready to play yet it'd still be in my downloads and it wouldn't let me use it then a disc read error would appear. I assumed it was steam having a hissy fit on me and restarted it as an administrator, the same issue kept happening. I left it for 24 hours before coming back home from town with a steam card to use to buy another game. I purchased surgeon simulator which downloaded fine without error, which lead me to believe there wasn't any issue with my laptops disc. Being I had other games to play and other things to get done I left SFM alone and didn't bother ... Read more

Whenever I did 'sleep', on my Toshiba Sateliite P200-10C my screen often would go from 1200x1400 to what looked like 600x800 dpi. Half the time I would need to restart 1-3x to get back to my 1200x1400. Changing by manually going into the screen setup didn't do anything. I never had any error messages.

Suddenly the last time the screen looked 600x800 but this time with vertical lines--no error messages. I restarted hoping for the best and the screen went from off-black to dark grey like it wanted to come on but couldn't. Restarting 8 more times did nothing. Hitting F8 for entry into setup just made the comp beep in protest.

I plugged the Toshiba into another screen and that showed up everything I had just fine.

Does this sound like a video card died? Is this common for Toshibas? It's a year old.

Thanks in advance for any help. My comp specs below:

Toshiba Satellite P200-10C
Core2 Duo T7200
1024MB + 1024MB Memory 667Mhz/256Vram
250 GB HD 4200RPM SATA

OS Vista Home Premium 32 Bit

Answer:Toshiba Satellite P200--dead screen

Could be the video card, could also be a loose cable, since its only a year old, it may still have a warranty. If it does take it for servicing

Probably too hopeful but as it's easy to try, do this:Turn off, disconnect power and remove battery. Hold the Power Off/On button down for at least 20 seconds to discharge the motherboard components. Everything works and can hear the fan etc but no screen. I noticed though that if i shine a light on the screen i can see the background. Im not computer minded but need help. Thanks

Answer:toshiba satellite c660 black screen on xp

Hi mw_86 and welcome to TSG.

Have you tried an external Monitor ? I would do that first if possible and if it's display is good carry on below.

With those symptoms if that model has an Inverter I would try switching it with a known working one.
You should find some on Ebay. (I've had good luck even with used ones).

If it does have an Inverter it could be the backlight instead but that's usually much more difficult to replace.

If it's an LED model (ie no Inverter or Backlight) I would guess either the LEDs have failed or they aren't getting power from the motherboard.

I have a toshiba satellite L300 laptop. When using it last night the screen blacked out, although the system was still working fine. I rebooted the laptop and it came back on again but blacked out after 2 mins. It then worked after pressing the power button briefly to log off, the screen came on again but only for a few seconds. Now the screen is not working at all although the computer appears to be running ok. I will have to locate another monitor to plug in to see it the fault is the screen.
Does anyone have any ideas what this might be and if so, how to resolve this?

Hello, I've bought a Toshiba Satellite S50-B-15Q and it works fine, except the HDMI port. I cannot connect to a second screen with Windows 10. I've tried the following things;

Checked the cable - Reinstalled drivers (Windows and Intell Graphic), installed the Toshiba HWSetup, tried different kinds of secondary screens, toggled with the Windows P button, adjust settings in the configuration screen, and after different adjustments rebooted the laptop many times, searched the internet..... But nothing so far. What I can see is that the secondary screen flashes (depends on the model, but I also can see the blue or orange LED light) and even my toshiba laptopscreens goedd for a moment to a black screen and then comes back normally, I can even move my mouse to the other screen (I see it disappear from my laptop screen), but the other screen stays black. I also adjusted the Resolution, but nothing. Just a annoying black secondary screen.

Has anyone have the same experience and a solution, because I need to give presentations for my work, and then I need to connect it to a bigger scree or TV.

Dear all,

I have Toshiba Satellite M70, I need help and i will describe my problem:

- Few days ago my screen went black suddenly, i don't know how cause i was away from the laptop.
- Until yesterday, when i boot my laptop, it gives me black screen all the time but when i put him in standby mode by closing the notebook for few seconds and then i click the on button, my screen starts displaying fine until my next reboot and i start all over again ( i usually keep my notebook working almost 18 hours which means there's a lot of time to my next reboot)
- But Today, I booted too many times , it gives me black screen and the standby mode doesn't work anymore. But few times today when i was trying to boot, the screen displayed the Toshiba screen for only 1 second then gone black again.

P.S. You can see hardly threw the black screen everything if there is a sunlight facing the laptop.

Thank you in advance,
Best regards,
Mr. Mher Krikorian

Answer:Black Screen on boot- Toshiba Satellite M70

> You can see hardly threw the black screen everything if there is a sunlight facing the laptop
This is very useful info?
I think the issue is related to the FL inverter?
The FL-inverter is a small part which controls the display backlight.
If this part starts to malfunction then you would see everything like behind a thick fog?

In my opinion the FL inverter should be checked and replaced if necessary?
For that you have to get in contact with an local service technician?

Greets & happy new year!

I opened my laptop, pushed the power button, the green power light came on, but my screen did not come on. I have researched and tried several troubleshooting steps, but nothing is working. sometimes when i power it on, itll give me the options of safe mode and all that. but when i choose to run normal, itll run normal for a second and then it will turn black. it has to be my internal hard drive right? if its displaying at all on my screen like options of safe mode, it stays on the whole time on safe mode. but turns black when i choose run normal

Answer:Black screen on my toshiba satellite latop

If Safe Mode continues to run without crashing or shutting down, there is nothing wrong with the hard drive. A faulty hard drive or motherboard would affect Safe Mode just the same as Normal Mode. When Safe Mode runs okay, but Normal Mode does not, it is usually caused by a bad or incompatible device driver that you've recently installed, or some incompatible software that you've recently installed of the types listed below:Third-party Firewall software.Antivirus software.CD/DVD burning software.Virtual CD software. If you can remember recently installing a driver or any of the above software types, uninstall it in Safe Mode. Then try starting Windows normally.

I have a Toshiba Satellite model L850-1JR and I have the following problem:
From time to time, when you turn on the PC and spend a few minutes, the screen is completely black.
It seems that the operating system still works and I can not recover it. I happen to both with a battery and connected to the NETWORK.
Disconnect the PC by pressing the power button for a few seconds, remove the power cord and wait a few minutes. I put the cable back and proceed to start it, but it still does not work. The power LEDs if they work and the pc seems to start perfectly but without seeing anything.
Occasionally, when this happens, when the screen is moved the PC recovers and other times until it does not spend enough hours does not turn on the screen again.
Could you tell me what may be happening and / or how to solve this problem?
Thank you very much

Above computer turns on, battery is good, fan spins, but the hard drive does not spin. I hit ESC, F1, F-whatever to see if I can get it to boot into setup, nothing happens. I put a bootable diagnostics disk in the DVD/CD drive and it spins, but nothing happens on the screen. I hooked up a monitor to see if it was the screen, but the monitor doesn't receive a signal. So, I'm thinking it could be two or three bad things. Bad hard drive, but why wouldn't it boot into setup and why is there nothing on the screen? Bad motherboard? That would explain everything, I think. Bad CMOS? Any help with diagnostics here?

Check the CMOS battery first. It should be 3 volt.

Hi there, I have a Toshiba Satellite A200 and I've encountered a frustrating problem. Let's just get a few things out first.

I had intended to turn it off last night, but it didn't shut down. There was some message about a program still opened or something like that (not a big deal I thought as I had gotten it a few times before). I just clicked whatever it was that ended it or turned it off anyways. So today I come back to turn it on and it was on that message. I turn it off and come back later to turn it on. I noticed there was a black screen and I could not do anything. I hold the power button to turn it off and restart it. It loads the Toshiba/Phoenix screen fine. Then I get to the Windows Recovery screen. It gives me two options.

- Use the Windows Recovery thing to try to find and repair any errors
- Start Windows normally

I tried the first option a few times but it said there was an unspecified problem due possibly to some hardware configurations (did not do anything before). I restarted and pressed F2 and looked for anything that might have caused it and I exited without saving any changes (Toshiba/Phoenix thing) and then it led me to the screen with the Safe Mode and other options. I chose Safe Mode just to see and it led me to the log-in screen, but after that it would not let me see those same options again, but I can still get into Safe Mode using F8. Anyways, I would start normally and at the loading screen, the bar would load but there is no Vista logo. After ... Read more

OK first off I'm sorry that this ends up being my first post. I work in IT as my day job but I know more about the quirks of machines I've been dealing with for years. Anyway I have a friend with a Toshiba Satellite A665-S5176x and it will look like it's booting fine and then it shows nothing but a cursor and a black background. BEFORE any of you suggest anything please look over what I've done (listing in order)

1. Tried to boot in safe-mode (same thing)
2. Tried window 7 disk (wouldn't show anything besides black no system repair)
3. Tried to boot normally and the PC BSOD'd and then rebooted...then blank screen
4. removed HDD and put it in my laptop where it booted just fine (so not a software issue)
5. Looked for mini-dump to see if BSOD info was such luck
5. since I had my HDD out anyway I put it in the toshiba to see what would happen, it black screen'd as well.
6. reset bios to default...nothing changed

At some point I saw an error mentioning a hardware failure but I don't remember when I saw it. More importantly if anyone has any other suggestions I'm willing to try them. I'm at a loss here

Answer:Toshiba Satellite always boots to a black screen

So you get the usual POST and then it just goes to the wonderful Black Hole of Death, right?

No other messages whatsoever.... but at least eliminated the inverter (backlight) as being toast since you did get POST.

Clean the inside of the laptop out including all the fans + intakes of dust bunnies.

I'd remove the CPU heatsink and redo the thermal paste with Artic MX-4 (best available), same for the chipset's heatsink if applicable.

I would put in a trusty Linux Live CD (I use Linux Mint's) and of course set the bios to boot off the DVD drive and see if that WORKS or not. [If it can't handle that, then you know it's a shot motherboard, which is the likely scenario, since the video is integrated.]

Could check the voltage on the power supply with a multimeter, also, make sure it's not shot.

See where you are at after those things.....

I have a toshiba satellite a665 and the screen distorts when the brightness is too low. What is causing this?

Answer:Toshiba Satellite a665 screen distortion.

I've seen this caused by bad or loose ram.

Try and re-seat your laptops ram modules. By that I mean take it out, then put it back in. Making sure that the ram modules are snug when you replace them.

Note!! Make sure and remove all power from the machine, prior to working on it. Unplug it -- take out the battery -- hold the power button for 20 seconds.

I have a Toshiba Satellite a210-12u which has been quite a good laptop for me. However for qutie a while now it has been going dim after about a minute of loading up. The screen starts as it should do, but then goes dim, like if I had taken the plug out and it was working on the battery. I have however checked the power options and have it at high performance, and also have the display brightness at 100%. Whilst this is not an issue which inhibits my use of the laptop, it is a bit annoying.
Any help would be much appreciated.

I am using Windows 7 Professional - not the RC.
The Fn + Brightness Up/Down doesn't work - in fact, none of the Fn key combinations seem to work. The slider controls through control panel > power settings OR the windows mobility center, do not work either.Any known causes/solutions to this problem?

Answer:Toshiba Satellite A100-SK8 Screen Brightness

We need to install a driver (or program) for the Function key combinations. It should be provided by the computer manufacturer.
I tried to search for the A100-SK8 but failed to find it. Please refer following link:
Please Note: Since the web site is not hosted by Microsoft, the link may change without notice. Microsoft does not guarantee the accuracy of this information.
If your computer can be found on the website, let's check if there is any newer program related to Fn key function. If so, download and install them.
If failed to find, we may need to contact Toshiba for further help.
In addition, I suggest that let's confirm with Toshiba to see if Windows 7 is available for the computer. If there is no Wnidows 7 driver provided for the computer, some function keys may not work.

I bought a VGA cable to connect my laptop to my TV in order to mirror what ever is on my laptop screen. My TV did not pick up anything when I checked the Sources.

I opened the "Action Centre" on my laptop and selected "Project". I changed the current setting of "Duplicate" to "Second Screen Only", this caused my laptop screen to go black when the VGA cable was connected. When I disconnected the VGA cable my laptop screen came back on. This frustrating because I want to change it back to "Duplicate" but it is impossible to navigate while the VGA cable is plugged in because of the black screen.

note that when i changed it to "second Screen Only" my TV still did not pick up my laptop.

any solution for this?

My P500 has a habit of getting stuck at the Toshiba Leading Innovation screen, sometimes it will go past it other times it won't. I have gone into the Bios and 'load default setup' that will work for a few days.

Taking out the battery helps too. I have run a full hardware diagnostics on the Hard drive and it reports as healthy. It's a stroke of luck if I can boot into Windows.

my M40 sometimes stops booting after the Toshiba Screen. It stops and all I can see is the flashing cursor. No Error-Message or something else and normal booting from HDD. Booting from CD (eg. Knoppix) works. This problem only occurs sometimes and isn?t traceable for me.

Answer:Satellite M40 - 129 stops booting after Toshiba Screen

Hi Spoony

Unfortunately on this way it is not easy to say why this happen. Every user has individual OS configuration and we don?t know how your OS is configured.

Can you start OS in ?safe mode?? If yes check a little bit what the problem can be. If there is nothing that you can do I recommend you to save all your data and preinstall unit using recovery media. If you do this I also recommend you to create two partitions.

Don?t compare WXP and Linux booting procedure. Like you know Knoppix uses just RAM and not HDD for running.

Hi there, I have a Toshiba Satellite A200 and just today I've encountered a frustrating problem.

I chose Safe Mode just to see and it led me to the log-in screen, but after that it would not let me see those same options again. Anyways, I would start normally and at the loading screen, the bar would load but there is no Vista logo. After that, there's ... Read more

As the title states, I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop (If you need exact model, lmk)
that I found in an old box and could actually use an extra laptop around for schooling.
I get a blue screen off boot up as soon as windows begins to load (even before password input)
The error code is 0x0000008e and I have tried most remedies.
Last Known Good Config - dies
reset to older date - dies
Memtest - clean
I feel that the motherboard is either fried or a deep issue is happening.
If I can find the OS cds, would a reformat/install be the best way to go?

Answer:Toshiba Satellite Blue Screen on Boot Up

What do you mean by reset to older date? you mean System Restore?
1. Try to choose the earliest date on the system restore and  see if it works.
2. Try to do a start-up repair on the windows cd first before you try to format.
it could also be your Cpu, you may need to replace it and try it first before doing anything with the motherboard.
Also if you can get into safe mode, try to uninstall/update all of your drivers in Device Manager by doing this.
1. As soon as your pc starts up hit f8 till if gives you options to go into SAFE MODE.
2. Click Start- Right click Computer- Properties- on the left click Device manager. Then go through each driver and right click on it and hit uninstall and it will re install them self.

My Toshiba Laptop is stuck at black screen after I was disassembling it. I was opening it because I accidently resetted the bios security settings to default. Suddenly the bios password box is opening while booting and wants a password. After searching the Internet I found out that my laptop wants the supervisor password which I don't own. Couldn't call Toshiba Support because I temporarily have no phone. So I decided to open the laptop to reset the CMOS. Removed the battery and fully disassembled the laptop till the motherboard was naked. Then I found the CMOS jumpers. But there where four of them and I couldn't find any instructions for four jumpers so I decided to close the device. After fully reassembling it I turned it on and the screen was all black. Only the white LED was on and the light round the power button. Tried many instructions from the Internet again but nothing works. Not even the USB ports seem okey cause when I insert a stick in all of them the lights for 'stick is working' are out (my USB sticks got LED's) Then I linked my laptop via HDMI to a friends TV. No signal. I'm crushed. Help me pls!!!!!!!!

I have a Windows 8 Toshiba Satellite C855, my brother had closed it last night and when i opened it the screen said 'please wait' it does that so I turned it off and turned it back on. When it turned on it was at the Toshiba startup screen, it was stuck there. Nothing happened. I turned it off again and back on then the startup screen said 'automatic repair' and 'diagnosing your pc' and a restore point opened I clicked restore and it took me back to the startup screen. I left it off for the rest of the night, my mom turned it on this morning and it did the same thing except after 'diagnosing your pc' it said, 'repairing disk errors'.
My mom turned it off and did a hard drive restore and it is still doing the same thing. I don't know what to do, I can get into BIOS but I don't know how to fix it.

So my brother closed my computer earlier today and I opened it back up and it was on a 'Please wait' screen.
My computer usually stays like that unless I turn it off.
Well I turned it off and back on and it's stuck at the startup screen, the little circle just goes around and around.
I've turned it off and turned it back on and it went to automatic repair, then it said 'diagnosing your PC' and it went to a restore thing and said some apps that were added are bad for the computer. So I clicked restore.
It restarted and went back to the same startup screen with the circle going around and around. And it didn't do anything, stayed like that.
I have Windows 8 and I tried to F2 button, F12 button, the F8 button, the F11 button. None of them work, the only thing that happens is it stays on the Toshiba screen then says automatic repair AGAIN.
I don't know what is wrong with it, at all. I need some help.

upon turning on the laptop the screen will turn white if you hold around the frame in certain areas it will sometimes work but then if the monitor if it is bumped or moved it will go back white....I'm wondering if it is a loose cable issue or something else. Can someone please advise me on this?

Answer:my toshiba satellite l655 laptop screen is all white

You could check the cable connector at the screen end but from what you've said most likely it is a screen fault. The connector at either end of the cable can give issues, as can the cable itself. Mostly the cable goes bad around where it hinges and often when you move the lid down to nearly closed you see the picture come and go or flicker.Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Hello everyone,

I wasn't very clever of placing continiously my laptop on the floor, which lead to me stepping on it the other day and now I have a broken screen. It still works, but there are colored cracks..
I contacted Toshiba to check about the cost of such a repair and I was told that the price of the screen only will be more than 300? + the work and all will make it about 400?.
I also contacted a local computer shop and they said that a non genuine Toshiba screen will cost 160? + work.

My question here is: Can I by myself the screen on the internet and does it take any special skills to mount it on the laptop? I have just a bit more than basic skills in repairing elecronics and I suppose I will be able to change it, if it doesn't take any special skills or tools..
And as well, what screen should I buy? A genuine Toshiba one or a less expensive one also does its job?
The brand and the model of the laptop are: Toshiba Satellite P300 - 1G6 - 17"

Thanks in advance for all eventual responses!

Is there any way to replace a broken Toshiba Satellite Laptop LCD screen? My son accidentally broke it by closing the laptop on top of it's mouse is what I'm assuming. There is nothing otherwise wrong except for the screen and I can't stand having to hook a monitor up to it so I can work on it. Also is it hard to replace the screen or is this something that a computer repair shop needs to do? Thank you in advance.

Answer:Solved: Broken Toshiba Satellite Laptop Screen

Hi there,

Yes, it is very much possible to replace the screen. Usually they run between $150-250, depending on where you find it. And most screens are relatively easy to install as long as you have a small screwdriver and some patience. Someone can easily guide you through it if you have any trouble, but a computer store will charge you a MINIMUM of $60 for labor, if not more, plus handling fees for the screen itself. I'd recommend buying a new screen online and then coming back here and I can guide you through it.

Also, which model Toshiba do you have exactly? I am familiar with most, but just to make sure.

Hope this helps.

Answer:Satellite M35X-S109: Toshiba welcome screen comes after 13mins

as you say the problem appears before the Toshiba welcome screen, it has nothing to do with software on your hard disc. The problem must be the assembler software. So maybe reinstalling or updating the BIOS can help.
Much more you can't do by yourself. If it doesn't help your only chance is service.

Hello! After going into hibernation mode, Toshiba Satellite A505-s69803 no longer boots, only slightly powers up and has a black screen with no cursor.

Have tried unplugging power adapter and removing battery, holding power button down for over 60 seconds, then re-plugging in adapter and attempting to boot up. Power button lights up, fan starts, cd/dvd player clicks, then just black screen. No beeps, no messages or errors on screen. Power indicator and adapter indicator below keyboard light up faintly white. Battery indicator goes orange momentarily if I put the battery back in.

Can anyone help wih ideas or resolutions? Would really like to try to bring this machine back to life to get some recent non-backed up photos and other data off it.

So all this started when I was updating my laptop's bios (which I've done before twice and went smoothly) except for this time.

I downloaded the BIOS update soon after the notebook recommendeds me to do so from official Toshiba website (MEA) after putting it's exact model number and part number as I have done before.

The BIOS version on the notebook was v 1.60 and to be upgraded to v 1.70 the process went smoothly upto the step that it shows it's upgrading insydeH20 firmware with a progress bar in DOS window. After it says BIOS is successfully updated it shut down and all went quiet. But the next time I tried to boot it up the screen came up with nothing (Fans work, Light indicators work). But when I try to open the BIOS menu pressing F2 there is nothing (no beeping too).

After this incident I tried

*Booting up with 1 ram stick only
*Holding down the power button for like a minute
*Taking out and putting back the CMOS battery

....still nothing

Am I screwed up? Or is there anything you guys out there can help with?

I apologize as I did not see a different area to post my question so I thought I would post it under the Windows it is running. I apologize in advance if I did it incorrectly and any input or direction would be greatly appreciated.
I am no computer geek but I am not a computer “virgin” either. However, I need the assistance of the veteran computer geeks. I have had my Aunts Toshiba Satellite L505D-S5983 for quite some time now and I have been meaning to write and find a place where I may be able to find some direction on how to proceed.
I have done extensive research at one time and found that Toshiba’s were known for “graphic chip issues”. Actually at the same time I got my aunt’s computer, my friends Toshiba had the exact same issue. Lights up but no graphic on laptop or external monitor.
The information I obtained at the time was that the GPU was soldered to the motherboard and I would have to replace the motherboard which was more expensive than buying another computer. So, I looked into the “reflow” process and decided I had nothing to lose so dismantled the one laptop to find that I couldn’t do the reflow because the GPU was locked in with a plastic lock.  This is what brings me to my next dilemma and why my poor aunt has gone without her laptop for the past 8 months. I got so sick of trying to find the information that I just stuck it in a cupboard and went on with all my other demands in life.

You could call Toshiba to see if they have any suggestions, but I suspect they will point you toward a replacement motherboard.
Best of luck.

When I start my laptop, it stops on he Toshiba leading innovation screen and only provides the option to do one of two things. This is what it says at the bottome of the page *"Press F2 to enter Setup, F12 to enter Multiboot Selection Menu"* I have tried both. I pressed F2, I've press F12 and neither one gets me pst the screen

- When I press either after the Toshiba screen is visible, they do nothing
- If I press the F2 during boot up, the instruction at the bottom of the page says "Please Wait". However, I waited for hours and nothing ever happened. The "please wait" message just sat there.
- If I press the F12 during boot up, the instruction at the bottom of the page says "Press F2 SETUP, Entering boot device selection menu....." Then it just sits there and does nothing
The Toshiba Leading Innovation screen remains the whole time.

Can some one please tell me why I can't get past this screen and how to fix the problem?
Thank you

Answer:Satellite A - Can't get past Toshiba Leading Innovation screen

I imagine that you have to reset the BIOS back to factory settings. That involves messing with CMOS.

In YouTube you can find vid tutorial that shows how to bypass the BIOS password. Nevertheless, it really is just a tutorial on how to restore BIOS back to factory settings.

Tell me how it goes, and good luck!
You won't lose your HDD files or settings.

To answer why it happened, I would not be able to know until you describe what you have done with the computer so far that might give me a clue!

Hey, I have recently got a problem with my Toshiba laptop where after the "Toshiba leading inovation" screen shows, my laptop screen goes black.
I have manged to find out the problem is one of my hard drives, and I am asuming it is the C drive as the laptop cant start up. If anyone has any information about what may be wrong, ways to fix it, and the possible expenses involed in fixing it, can you please help me?

also.. what are the chanced I will lose my files ect. off the drive?

Answer:Satellite A200 - After Toshiba screen the display does black

Normally after the Toshiba screen the notebook tries to boot from HDD.

It could be a HDD issue but I?m not sure. Have you checked the BIOS if the HDD is recognized properly?
What happens if you load the default settings in BIOS?
Did you test and external monitor?

Last but not least it would be interesting to know if you can boot from another device, for example CD/DVD drive.

Hi, I have had my laptop for about 2 years now and recently I have noticed that when the screen is dark coloured (like a black background or dark background) purple fuzzy horizontal lines appear on the very top of the screen. Like the top 2 millimeters of the screen.

I also noticed that when i put pressure on the area around the touch pad the whole screen starts to glitch out and go spastic. Like purple lines everywhere. Especially around the taskbar at the bottom of the screen.

If I set the background to white the lines disappear however and the affects of putting pressure on the area around the touch pad are far less noticeable (if at all, I have to test this more)

Also when I plug in an external monitor (VGA) there are no problems on the external screen.

So my question is, has anyone experienced something similar and also would this be a software or hardware problem? And what steps should I take now?

Answer:Toshiba Satellite U400 - Purple lines on screen

Sounds like a hardware problem. If the screen garbles when the base is pushed, then the graphics chip is probably faulty. An ASP can quote you a new Mainboard.

Answer:Re: Satellite A300-1BZ Blank screen after Toshiba logo

Windows may be corrupted. Have you tried booting from a Bootable CD? For example, try the Memtest ISO from

Directly after you see the Toshiba logo, press F8 a few times to access the Windows Boot Menu, and try booting into Safe Mode.

If you can get into safe mode, run CHKDSK C: /F to check for file system errors, then reboot normally.
If that doesnt work, then go back into Safe Boot and restore the PC back to a previous state using System Restore.

Hi, I am running vista basic in a Toshiba Satellite A215 I was uninstalling firefox when my computer stalled. I tried to reboot, the loading bar came up, after that the screen went black with a mouse cursor arrow. I tried safe mode. Same result. I tried "0 + power" method for factory default. Same result. I dont have the recovery cd. Is there any way to restore factory default without it?  Thanks, RayEdit: Moved topic from Introductions to the more appropriate forum. ~ Animal

I have just replaced the screen of a Toshiba Satellite laptop (A665). The previous screen had been broken when someone stepped on the top of the laptop. Structurally, though, the laptop was just fine. The broken screen lit up in senseless brilliance.

After I replaced the screen the laptop will not power up. I immediately thought it could be: 1) cables came unplugged when I remounted the panel 2) faulty new screen 3) motherboard.

I've really been hoping against motherboard. And something strange is happening that makes me think it might not be the whole board.

The laptop powers on for five seconds, fans blaring and everything, and then shuts off. It almost reminds me of when my Xbox red-ringed and would no longer even start up (finally forcing me to repair it). It does this with the new screen, the old screen, and no screen at all. There doesn't seem to be any difference.

In my experience, when a motherboard goes there's no getting it to turn back on. Which is what confuses me. I'm at a loss here, aside from the thought that it might be the screen cable, and I can't really afford to have a professional take a look at it (as I've already spent money on the new screen).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey everyone,

I have spent hours scouring the Internet to see if anyone has had a similar problem, and found nothing.

When I turn on my laptop, I hear the fan start up and the screen boots to the Toshiba loading screen - and stays there.

I have tried a power drain and trying to bring up a menu with F8, but neither worked.

Because I did not hear the usual hard drive noise I assume there is a problem with the HD. Can anyone suggest what to try? If the hard drive is out I don't know if a system restore disk or USB would work. I also read that I might try removing the RAM but I'm not sure how that would help.

I bought my computer in the USA but live in France now, so sending it back to the USA for repair would be very costly. I also left my warranty info and recovery disk in the USA like a fool. I will be back for the holidays but that is a long time to go without my computer!

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Answer:Satellite P500 is not booting - stops at Toshiba screen

This is not conclusive of HDD failure but can you access the Bios and see a HDD?

Can you boot from your system recovery cd? - It should enable you to check if the hdd is visible.

A new 2.5" hdd is not expensive (doesn't need to be Toshiba) and takes 5mins to install.

When starting up it then get frozen on the toshiba screen so unable to go into safe mode etc...

Can anyone help?

Answer:Satellite Pro L300 freezes on Toshiba Splash screen

This would mean that your notebook cannot pass the POST (Power On Self Test).

Power on self test is a short diagnostic test which checks the motherboard and the connected devices?
Theoretically everything could cause this issue? faulty motherboard, RAM malfunction, etc?

In your case I recommend removing the RAM modules and to check the single modules.
You can try to remove only one module. Check both modules using this procedure?

Otherwise you will need an help from professional technician? the guy could run some tests in order to find out what part malfunctions..

Touch screen not working

Answer:Toshiba Satellite L15W-B touch screen not working

What version of Windows is currently installed?
Also, make sure the driver for the touch screen is installed. You can normally find correct drivers by going on the laptop manufacturers web site and going to their drivers and support section (be sure to choose the correct model of the laptop because many have same name but different variations).

Be sure it's not turned off by some hot key on the keyboard and check device manager to see if it's picking up some sort of input device other than touchpad keyboard.

I have a toshiba satellite a70 and i am having the following problem. When the laptop shuts down or even restarts, on the screen where the bios appears, it is black. Let me see if i can clarify. The computer turns on or restarts but the screen is black. I can hear the fans come on, all of the indication lights are on, but the screen remains black. I thought that it might be an LCD hardware prob, so I waited 10 min to see if i can at least here it logging into windows, I even connected it to a seperate monitor. Nothing happens. Here's the kicker. If I were to shut down the laptop and then remove the power cable from the back of the laptop and then turn it back on, it would work fine. It seems as though the computer is not shutting down properly?

Please help, Thanks in advance

My satellite L300 starts up with the Toshiba screen and keeps on starting regularly until I see the blue Windows sign saying Please wait... After that the screen goes black and it switches back to the Toshiba opening screen. I tried going into the system by pressing F2 or F12 but I am a technical noob and that is way to complicated for me.

According to my sister it has something to do with a faulty download and that I have to insert some kind of code in either of the systems (F2 or F12).

Is anyone familiar with this problem and can someone maybe explain to me how to fix this?

Thank you!

Answer:Satellite L300 keeps restarting to Toshiba opening screen

Try please to start notebook in safe mode.
When you switch it on press F8 to enter advanced boot options. There you will find safe mode option.

Wait until windows loads. I hope you will be able to do this.

What you can try then is to roll back OS to earlier time using system restore option.

Please test it and send some feedback.

I have quite a weird issue that I haven't encountered before.

When the laptop is turned on, you get the Toshiba splash screen, hitting f2 gets you in to the bios, f12 gets you to the boot menu, both these menus work fine.

However, anything past this just results in a black screen, for example, if I was to choose network boot as the first boot option, or cd-rom, or hdd!

I have tried the following troubleshooting steps

1. Removed HDD/DVD and tried to network boot - nothing
2. Reset BIOS to factory defaults, checked boot items were set correctly
3. Removed ram and fitted known working ram, tried both slots
4. Removed battery and drained the static
5. Attempted recovery of the bios using floppy disk (results in same black screen when trying to boot to it)

No bios updates have been ran previous to this, all the client tried to do was connect the laptop to a projector.

Any Ideas?

Answer:Satellite A300 - No activity after Toshiba splash screen

Hi Jon Roberts,

Why you want to update the BIOS?

If nothing works after the Toshiba screen it seems to be a hardware malfunction. You should contact nearest authorized service provider to get professional help. The guys can check the notebook and repair it.
Furthermore on the Toshiba website you can find a list of all ASPs.

Good luck! :)

Answer:Toshiba Satellite Radius Laptop black screen

Try an external monitor on it as first step.If you never ever see anything at all on the screen then it is almost certainly a hardware fault but what happens on the external will tell us more. Also let us know whether the computer "appears to start" or not (lights, fan sounds etc).Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

I just installed 4GB of matched Crucial memory (had 256MB). Everything was fine for about a day; left the computer running for about 1/2 hour and when I came screen. Nothing. Finally had to shut down using the power button.

Any suggestions will be gratefully received.

Operating system is XP with pack 3 installed.

Answer:Toshiba Satellite A105 S2061 black screen

Will the system boot properly if the new momory is removed and original memory inserted into system. Also what type memory did you installed (clock speed,SDRAM,etc)

The maximum amount for this particular model is 2GB referring to the Toshiba website.
