Preferred Solution: Last minute check - will this setup work?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Last minute check - will this setup work?

Use PCpartpicker as a very useful guide. Your motherboard's specifications will show what CPU and Ram it will support though.

I have tried all the troubleshooting suggestions for my mouse problems but nothing has worked.  My mouse will work for one to two minutes, then quit.  If I unplug it and try another USB port, it will work for another minute or two, then quit again.  Has anyone ever encountered this problem?  Thanks for any suggestions!

Answer:Mouse will work for one minute

Is it wireless ?Do you have another mouse to try ?

Hi everybody,

After searching on the internet and doing some disk assignment tweaks, i still can't find a solution for my problem.

My w10 was running fine every day when all of a sudden my pc got really slow. When clicking on the start menu it sometimes doesnt load and a reboot/shut down takes 5 minutes before something happens. Also loading the file explorer takes forever and when finished loading it won't show examples of files like jpg's and png's.

I guess it is a problem with w10 because the ssd where my w10 is installed is only 2 months old. Do you guys have any solution? I need my pc for work, so i'm really trying to find a solution.

Answer:W10 too slow to work with after a minute of 5

run this few things from Command prompt (As Administrator) first:
sfc /scannow
and
dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
To make sure there's no system corruption.
At disk properties, under tools , you'll find Error checking > Check, that should check file integrity.
Did you run any AV checks maybe and Malwarebytes too ?

So I run a p4 3.0, 896 ram and 512 kbps dsl windows xp

I live in greece so I use OTE as my ISP with a speedtouch modem.

My problem is, my internet will work for a few pages when I first open the browser and then when I try to open a new page (that im sure exists) it just pretends like its trying to open it but just sitting there using none of the network speed. (im sure this is the case as I've turned off everthing else including my anti-virus and whanot to test this)

the weird thing is that when i copy link location, close all instances of the browser, reopen the browser and paste the link that wasnt working just a moment ago. it works? It's some weird connection between my browser or ISP and the internet.

please please please someone know what to do!

Answer:browser has to be reopened to work after a minute or so

Well i think that you coulds try installing the drivers for the moderm or repair them. You could also try and download internet explorer and when the installtion wizards starts you should try repair, this should repair any erros or missing files, or if you still have the windows xp disc, you should try and install it again, this should also fix any errors and missing files BUT IF YOU DO THAT REMEMEBER TO BACK-UP TOUR FILES BECAUSE THEY WILL BE LOST AND YOU WILL ALSO HAVE TO INSTALL ALL YOUR PROGRAMS BACK ON

hope this helps, please reply gd luck

When I turn on the computer about twenty minutes is quiet. Than fan starts like a hurricane, slows down and stops. It lasts few seconds. The fan works in this way regularly with one minute intervals.
Is there any possibility to switch the fan on continuous work in slow motion?

Answer:Satellite L20-182: fan doesn't work properly - one minute intervals

Hi,

If you go to toshiba power saver you should be able to turn your up or down. Once you open this program from control panel, you have the option to change how much your processor runs as well as how much your cooling modules work. Turning either one down will make the fan not come on as much. Then you might want to try and use a vacuum cleaner to suck the air intake grills to clean any dust that could be clogging it up. Dust can make the fan run more because the lack of cool, fresh air entering the system to cool the cpu. Hope this helps.

Thanks in advance for your help. It appears I have randomly picked up a virus of some sort wherein whenever I am connected to the internet, my computer gives the "Windows Has Recovered From a Critical Error and Will Restart in One Minute. Please Save your Work Now." message, and my computer restarts as the message states. I have run adaware and malwarebytes' antimalware with mixed results, and downloaded a windows malware removal tool, but none have completely eliminated the problem. I can turn the internet off via a switch on my netbook (it is a HP Mini 110-1100 with Windows 7 Starter), and when I have that turned off before I log in, the computer works as normal, but of course the internet is a much-needed tool. Hello all. I have an X220 with 6201, latest drivers downloaded from the Lenovo site. Whenever I sleep or hibernate, when I resume computer (on Win7) I get either a litte red x or a little glowing orb on my wireless connection, which indicates "Wireless not connected - Connections are available".  But I can't connect for up to a minute!! If I leave it alone it will connect on its own. What is going on, this is really becoming a problem!

Answer:X220 wireless doesn't work for up to a minute when resuming from sleep or hibernate

visconde_piraja wrote:

If you can't afford to wait a minute of so to reconnect, then use Fn+F5 to turn off all wireless devices before you hibernate and use it again to to switch them back on when you power up again.

Cheers,

Bill

[Sirefef virus]Hi all.It looks like I've picked up a virus while browsing the internet (Drive-by infection). The computer was operating OK except last night I heard it playing a video talking about meryl streep (through the speakers) but there was no window open (a bit sus). Then when I checked this morning, I saw that System Centre essentials, Windows update, Firewall and whatever Windows Defender is now called have all been disabled (computer still functioning OK though...).I then tried to reinstall System Centre Essentials and now get a message every time I boot the computer saying "Windows has encountered a critical problem and will restart automatically in one minute. Please save your work Now". This happens in Normal and Safe Mode.I'm not running a CD Drive emulator, and I'd love some suggestions on how to tackle this given my 1 minute window of opportunity when the computer boots. Thanks![Edit] Just tried rebooting my PC this morning, it looks like I have picked up the sirefef virus (or a variant) - the latest definitions from MSE picked it up. It's still doing the reboot every minute trick though, and the files keep reappearing after i "Clean" them.[Edit #2] I have used Kaspersky Rescue Disk 10 (http://support.kaspersky.com/viruses/rescuedisk/) to locate the original version of Services.exe in the winsxs folder and copy it back to the c:\windows\system32\ folder (after renaming the one sirefef put there) could have... The internet comes and goes. I'll have pages load instantly for a minute or so and then the next click the pages times out. A minute of page refreshing and more time outs and then I'm back to blazing speeds again. This repeats again and again. Restarting the computer, cable modem and router seems to make no difference. I've tried IE, Firefox, Chrome and Safari, and again, no difference. I have 4 computers on my home network. This happens on all of them but for the sake of troubleshooting this I have physically disconnected 3 of them from the network. I've reset and reconfigured the router. I've removed the router and connected straight to the modem. No problems. Blazing connection. Added the router back in the loop, reboot and problem occurs immediately. So router problem, right? Yes, except I had the same problem with another router and replaced it with this one. I had to replace the hard disk in this computer; but, the old disk was running well enough so that I backed up all the user data, Favorites folder, etc. In the past, I have always been able to just copy the content of the old Favorites folder to the new Favorites folder and the Favorites would all show up in IE; but, for some reason none of the copied favorites shwo, only new ones made in the new setup.

What can I do to fix this?

NOTE: I am putting the Favs into the CORRECT folder.

Hi guys

Im looking at just testing out how a VPN works, a quick overview is i have a vista laptop and a windows 7 desktop along with a billion 7800n router. Both the laptop and desktop have static lan ip address asaigned to them. I would like to dial into my desktop machine from my laptop.

I have setup my desktop to recieve in coming connections but when i am setting up the laptop to allow outgoing connections im a little bit unsure on one aspect. When it asks for the internet address i want to connect to which is my desktop machine, do i have to type in the lan address of that machine or do i have to put in the wan address?

I have followed the help guide on the forum but i was still a little confused. I just need to setup my router as well to allow pptp connections but that should be pretty straight forward hopefully

Hope you can help

Liam

Answer:Quick VPN setup check

We have some tutorials on this here. It looks like they are using a User name and LAN address to me. There is some info on the required router settings at the bottom of the outgoing VPN page.

I am going to be purchasing a new computer, and will be building it myself, which is my first time. This is the list I have compiled, and would just like to hear any suggestions on what you might do differently if it was your setup. By the way, this is going to be for mostly gaming, as well as music downloads and internet browsing. My budget is $1000 , and I have most of that spent already, as you can see here...

AMD Athlon 64 3500+ Socket 939 512KB L2 Cache - $260
Asus "A8V Deluxe" - $129.50
Gigabyte nVidia GeForce 6600GT, 128MB GDDR3, 128 bit, PCI Express - $186
Maxtor 80GB 7200RPM SATA - $70
Rosewill 16X Double Layer DVD + / - - $56 (this is a CD/DVD ROM right?)
Raidmax Black Aluminum Game Case w/ 420 Watt PS - $88.88 (is the power supply efficent for my setup?)
Corsair XMS Extreme Memory Speed Series (Twin Pack) 184 Pin 512MB x 2 DDR PC-3200 - $198

Total - $990

Well this is what I have so far, still need a monitor and keyboard. I was also needing to know if these are all compadible parts. Thanks for any help you guys can give.

Answer:Check Out This Computer Setup!

That looks like a really nice system. I have a couple of comments though.

Firstly, the video card is not compatible with the motherboard. The "A8V Deluxe" has an AGP slot for video cards, not a PCI Express slot. In other words, the video card is not compatible with the motherboard.

Secondly, just as a personal preference, I would get a Western Digital or Seagate hard drive. They seem to be a bit more reliable than Maxtor. Again, that is a personal preference, and some will disagree with my opinion.

Also, to answer your question, yes that DVD drive is a DVD/CD-ROM. It is actually a DVD burner I believe, so you should be able to copy your own DVD's. It burns and reads CD's as well.

The 420 watt power supply would indeed be enough for your system, no worries there.

Here are my recommendations for the parts in my suggestions:
Video Card: eVGA nVidia GeForce 6600 GT AGP-8X
Western Digital 80 GB 7200 RPM

Otherwise, the system looks great. By the way, fantastic choice on the RAM. You'll be very happy with it. Also, with website Click Here has a great walkthrough for first time builders. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Several months ago, when I first got my new laptop, I initially had problems setting up the wireless connection, and so I got a technician in (from the store where I bought the computer) to help me.Everything is now working fine, but I was wondering what I would have to do in the (not unlikely!!) event that I have to do a complete reinstall, as I don't know exactly how this technician configured the router (and I'd have to pay him to come back!).The router is a Netgear WGR614; I think the technician password protected the connection, but I can no doubt remember the passoword. Is there a simple way to check/change the initial setup?

Answer:How to check/change router setup

Not if it's got a Password. You would have to reset the router with a paper clip through the little hole at the back of the router

Hello, I recently purchased a Sony VAIO laptop FE series (march 2007), and at first it used to get really hot :cry when playing heavy duty online games, therefore, I bought a cooling pan which did help the overheating issue a bit. After a while, I noticed that the cooling pan didn't necessarily cool down the spot where the CPU is located, therefore, I decided to expand the cooling operation:major. I bought a standard super fan, and a mini fan the size of a baby's head to cool the entire bottom and top part of my laptop, plus still kept the cooling pan for even more air/cooling. Here are some pictures (excuse the poor lighting, but the pictures were taken with my laptop's internal webcam)

I use an open plastic crate that has tiny and medium openings everywhere so the air dissipates itself every second; the laptop is on top of the crate, sitting firmly and without a problem on its edges. I keep the cooling pan and the mini fan inside the crate to cool the CPU, HDD and pretty much the entire bottom of the laptop. Specifically, the mini fan is directed almost entirely towards the CPU, ... Read more

To be honest this setup is inspired by two consecutive of @ozone and @EASTER in this overview thread of free anti-ransomware programs

First Ozone mentioned that the developer of EasyFileLocker was the same as Shadow Defender. Secondly Easter posted that he still liked SecureFolders, a program simular to EasyFileLocker. Form the other forum I remembered Easter to be a hard core Shadow Defender user, so why did not he use a simular program from the same developer (since SecureFolders is abandonware). Since those programs (Shadow Defender and Secure Folders) both filter disk access, there is always an incompatibility risk. But I also know that Easter likes to cover every dispatch in the System Service Descriptor Table twice. So when someone has experience in finding compatible pairs of protection programs it is Easter.

An insight or idea popped up. Obviously disk protection programs from different vendors work together well. When you think about a disk protection program like EasyFileLocker, it protects the DATA on C:\Users and other Data partitions depending on the setup, while a disk virtualisation program like Shadow Defender typically would protect the OS and your installed programs, so itis logical that they would not interfere with each other.

So would a freebie like ToolWizTimeFreeze (simular to Shadow Defender) play along well with EasyFileLocker (simular to SecureFolders)?: To start with the spoiler: YES. Next posts: short explanation and screenprints of first EasyF... Read more

Answer:Is virtualization Chinese to you? Then check this freeware setup out

EasyFileLocker

You can download it from here: XOSLAB.COM and the installation is pretty straight forward. The only thing I noticed could be that it needed to be run elevated (as Admin) for the settings to be changed.

Secondly allowed al trusted programs she uses access to her Documents folder (on data partition D, I always split a hard drive into two partitions for security and backup/recovery ease of maintenance).

And as last her pictures folder (Albelli is photobook creation software)

Greetings: My P310 SFF is running BIOS version FWKT5DA. On start-up, I'm getting the error message:error 0162: setup data integrity check failure By pressing F10 after the error appears, I can boot successfully and all seems well on my machine. However, I'm seeking a BIOS fix for error 0162 so that I can boot my machine without having to press F10.I checked the BIOS download version FWKT6BA that's available on the Lenovo support site and the installationREADME does not have any mention of error 0162 being fixed in FWKT6BA. Please advise as to when a fix for error 0162 will be available or point me to a version of the BIOS where this issue is fixed. Thanks.

One of the Edge 72 computers at work won't startup again after the user updated the BIOS via the Thinkvantage System Update program. But I'm having a hard time figuring out how to fix it / reset it.Does anyone have solution? The computer is a ThinkCentre Edge 72 (3493-ESG)

Answer:"Error 0162 - Setup data integrity check failure" ...

I am having exactly the same issue on a ThinkCenter Edge 72 (3484FRG)I have already tried to rollback to the previous version (F1KT45A) using the boot CD as I cannot start the OS anymore. Unfortunatelly it doesn't help. The computer won't even start after a factory reset (Fresh new installation of Window 7 using teh LENOVO RECOVERY Partition) Symptoms: BSOD on ClassPNP.sys after BIOS Update to version F1KT47A using the Thinkvantage System Update program. UPDATE: I have called my local Lenovo Support Center (The computer is used as a Business Device and is registred with a ThinkPlus ePac ). A Technician will come onsite next week in order to change a piece of hardware. So it seems that the problem is known by Lenovo. Unfortunately I guess that there is no "easy fix" as the technician has to come on site...I'll try to update this post next week once the problem will have been solved.

Hello everyone My HITACHI hard disk has 2 NTFS partitions. Suddenly it couldn't boot up. So i removed the hard disk and connected it to another pc (as cable select) POST could see both disks, but the computer stopped with the following error: Warning: The boot devices have been changed. BBS boot priority will be affected. Please enter setup to check. Press F1 to continue. Del to enter setup. I entered set up and it could still see both disks. When I left set up having saved the changes it couldn't the disk (HITACHI) So during the new POST the previous error appeared again. I booted with UBCD4WIN and tried to recover my files with testdisk tool. I could see the 2 partitions (boot * & primary) and i tried to copy all the files to the healthy hd (not the HITACHI) I managed to copy only some of them and most of the folders I recovered were empty. I couldn't use the WRITE command to fix the partition table to the HITACHI hd (PC should restart again and I had the same problem/BBS boot priority .....) . Another problem is that the HITACHI disk has a broken pin (the first one at top right corner pin --- near the jumpers) and i don't know if I have to fix it first. OS: WinXP Pro 2002 Gr HD: HITACHI ATA/IDE , 250 GB HD model: HDT722525DLAT80 (Deskstar) Partition: 2 NTFS (180 (OS) & 70 Gbytes (Data)) I would appreciate if anyone could help me Thanks

Have an HP Touchsmart tm2t-2100 CTO purchased in December 2010. It is running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit application.
June 2012 it crashed. Since I am a teacher, I needed my laptop to recover quickly. The system would not recognize my recovery disks so I had to order disks from HP. The disks arrived but when I began to rebuild the tablet I killed the process at 12 hours because it seemed ridiculously long. ( My prior career I was a system project manager...so I am no strager to computers and software installations.) My quick solution was installing Windows 7 Home premium and then downloading the custom installtions for my HP tablet off the HP site. This was required to finish the school year.
July 2012 I began attempting to rebuild my laptop correctly. I found, through HP forums, their installtions take 16 hours before you get to the windows setup screens. In the midst of this process my battery also seems to have completely died. I have tested that it is the battery: AC Power glows steady white when battery is removed and system boots. Put the battery back in and the light blinks orange the whole time. Battery test shows it cannot recognize a battery.
So....when I tried to install the first time with battery still in, 16 hours later HP recovey processed, and Windows setup began. It made it through preparing software installation, installing software, customizing software, and stopped at "Checking AC Power."
The second time.....I tried to install I removed the de... Read more

I have Windows 8 64-bit Acer Aspire V5-431-4899. I recently updated it to Windows 8.1. A couple days ago I began looking up how to dual boot my system with windows 7 as well. Well let just say i never got that far. I began looking into creating additional partitions. After I felt comfortable with it I downloaded a partitioning program so that I to try and allocate more space than the built in disk manager would allow. When I performed a system restart for the settings to take affect the partitioning program started before windows as I read it should and then an error message appeared saying something along the lines of error loading needed partition. I restarted my pc and tried using a re-installation disk for windows 8. the rep[airs failed as they also gave a partition error. I asked a friend who took computer classes about the problem and he recommended deleting partitions and starting over. I tried this. Unfortunately when i did so and created a new partition and tried re-installing windows it said that the partitions are in the wrong format. I attempted changing my systems boot settings as well as wether to boot legacy so i could easily continue doing so. After trying a few different things my pc still boots and legacy however none of the keys to acess boot or bio options work. they beep as they did before but i get the "pxe-e61: media test failure, check cable" message the only time it will go past this is if i have a disk in the disk drive but as i said earlie... I am trying to look for pretty cheap but good options for parts. So far I have a case, processor, and GPU in mind. I need ideas for the motherboard especially. I dont know how to tell if everything would work correctly, so if something would be incompatible, could you tell me?

Case: NZXT Phantom 240 Mid Tower

Motherboard:
Hard-Drive: Seagate Barracuda 2TB HDD

I am looking to use these parts together but I am unsure whether it is possible or not. I already have a case, PSU, audio card and wireless card. The parts are:
Asus M4A87TD EVO 870 Socket AM3 8 Channel Audio ATX Motherboard
G-Skill 4GB DDR3 1600Mhz Ripjaws Memory Module CL9
AMD Phenom II X6 1100T Black Edition 3.3 GHz Socket AM3 6MB Cache
MSI GeForce GTX 560TI Twin FrozR II
But I would like to have two of the GPU's in sli but I am unsure if it is possible or not with the motherboard, and if not could an alternative be recommended.

Answer:Would this setup work?

The Nvidia card should work on that motherboard singly but the board only supports ATI gx cards in crossfire so if you want SLI then you may need an AMD socket with Nvidia chipset. (there are people running Nvidia cards on ATI mobo but why ask for trouble)
You can get a mobo like this one click here instead if you want to run SLI.

Answer:Hey can Someone tell me if this Setup will work?

Welcome to Majorgeeks!

The motherboard should be fine, though most would suggest you stick to ASUS/Gigabyte, or even ASRock (their quality/reliability has improved a lot in recent years) instead.

The PSU will need to go if you value stability and the lifespan of your other components. HEC are rated very low in the quality/reliability stakes. For best assurance, a 520W+ by SeaSonic/XFX is highly recommended, all their PSU's are very high quality.

I guess you're going to overclock from your CPU/cooling choices, in which case, a 650W+ may be better longer term, especially if you plan on upgrading the GPU (it's a little underpowered in this rig) or going Crossfire in the near future.

You'll need to budget for SSD/HDD, maybe a DVD/BD too.

The RAM might not be as reliable as Kingston or Crucial (Micron), check out what they have suited to your 'board with their online configurators.

Would this rig setup work out?  It's not exactly my money that I'm spending, some one is being nice enough to help me upgrade my computer a little bit, so I can't really be suggested higher performance parts.. this really fills my budget to the brim. http://www.gooeypc.com/beta/gooeygui.aspx?public_rigid=13461I might add that I have a rosewill RD600, a 600 watt power supply. The site bugs out when I attempt to add it to the rig. I also have a basic usb 2.0 keyboard, and a 19" monitor that connects through DVI. I already have most of these parts, I'm just trying to "upgrade" a little, with the motherboard, cpu, memory, case, mouse, and hard drive.I just want to know if all of this is compatible with each other, I've looked into the specs, and all seem to match, like the cpu to the motherboards AM3+ socket and that the motherboard supports FX cpu's. Stuff like that I checked out, but I'm calling on professionals to see if I missed anything. The CPU supposedly comes with the fan and heatsink and the "coolant gel".  Thank you for your time!  Edit: Oh! and the video card doesn't exactly match mine. The one I have is PCIe 2.0, and it's Sapphire.

Answer:Would this Rig setup work?

The RD600 PSU isn't amazing, but it's not terrible.  I would suggest going with a better unit, though.Everything is compatible, yes, but I wouldn't get an MSI motherboard due to reliability, and I wouldn't get the Western Digital Black HDD either as they're usually priced higher than the competition without the performance to justify it, unless you really *really* want the 5 year warranty.I know you didn't ask for suggestions, but if you let us know your budget & where you're buying from, we may be able to suggest a better build without increasing the cost.

Question: NT setup at work

Hey, I was wondering, I work at a franchise restaurant running NT. There is a main computer in the office, it supports several p.o.s. stations as well as being networked to corporate. I have never seen a desktop quite like this one. I assume it is specially set up for security reasons. There is no my computer icon, the command prompt has been disabled, along with many other common windows features. What sort of version of NT is this? I was there for a recent upgrade where we performed a tower swap on site, and a tech basically installed the rest of the software over the network. Is this a VPN? There is no firewall on the main computer so I assume it must be? Is this some sort of always on remote desktop connection to corporate? They can always "see in" to our computer. Just wondering, thanks.

Simply remove one of those ADSL routers and connect both machines to one router, job done.

Will this setup work?? I love gaming but I'm not to great with technical stuff. I want to get the Asus VH236 and play xbox and hook up my TV to it. I want to be able to play my xbox through a VGA wire and then hook up my cable box to the monitor using an HDMI cord. Will this work? And does this TV have built in speakers that will let me here audio from the cable box? I read on one site that it does but I just want to make sure. Sorry if this sounds confusing. Any help is greatly appreciated.

HI,

I have dictionary called the Unified Medical dictionary English-Arabic

anyway, i have the ISO file
i installed it on Win7 x32 with no problem

but i tried to install it on Winx64 but it says an error like "the setup file is not compatible with Win7 x64"

I tried to search for the x64 version but i had no success, google sometimes becomes lame u know....
I tried to just copy the already installed dictionary folders to Win7x64 but it didnt open cuz it seems that it needs to be installed

So is there any way to like edit that setup.exe file or something to work on x64 version cuz it seems if i can just bypass that step it will work

or like a work around the "copy whole folders" and get it to work
I really need some help with it,
thanks in advance,
Elsayed,

Answer:Is there a work around if Win7 x32 setup file wont work on Win7 x64

sometimes 32 bit applications have 16 bit installer and that won 't work on 64 bit system, but if this is not the case did you try to run installer in compatibility mode? (right click/properties/compatibility). Installer generally does three things: creates program directory, copies some DLL files to system directory and writes some data into registry. You could trace those things in Win32 installation and try manually recreate this on 64bit machine, but who knows if it will work. Also search for portable version, those don't require installation and frankly now a days I don't use anything else but portable applications unless there is no other way.

Answer:Will This Setup Work With Windows 7

Sounds like it will but be sure to consult Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor (Download details: Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor ), it will tell you if anything won't work but I'm sure 7 will run like a charm on that setup.

As the subject says, I have a 5.1 soundcard (Audigy), 5 speakers (Creative 5300) and a sub. At the moment, only 2 speakers at a time work.

None of the speakers are defective because I can plug different speakers into the two holes that do output sound, and each speaker can output sound using these holes.

Note that I have checked that the speakers were all plugged in properly into the back of my soundcard, and that Windows XP was set to a 5 speaker setup in the control panel.

Also note that when i got the speakers and soundcard, all 5 speakers were working at once. Then suddenly one day the output dropped to 2 speakers, with no apparent change to hardware or software.

I am unsure how to proceed.... any suggestions?

I have a normal Linksys Cable/DSL 4 port router in which I have the cable from my cable modem plugged into the modem cable port. Then in the 4 other ports I have:

Xbox
My PC
Linksys Wireless-B Access Point (not a access point rounter just an access point)

My internet works on my computer same as on the xbox. I have a Linksys (Wet11) Wireless-B Ethernet Bridge plugged into my other computer. I can't seem to findout how to get my remote computer to access the internet from the access point. Shouldn't the router send the internet signal into the access point then out wirelessly to other computers? I just want to be able to connect to the internet wirelessly on the remote computer same as I can on my main pc. Any help is appreciated.

Answer:Odd Linksys Setup. Not sure if it will work.

You need to configure the WAP from one of the wired workstations for your current network. Is the bridge an actual wireless NIC or just a bridge?

Hey all.. So i'm trying to figure out how I can setup my laptop to work with my 3 Dell S2715h monitors. I have a Latitude E7240 laptop and also have the Dell docking station that came with it. I'm trying to figure out how to get it set up so that I could go from my desktop and then switch to the laptop using all 3 monitors when it's docked. Would I need to get an HDMI splitter? All three monitors are currently hooked up via HDMI. Your input would help! Thanks

Answer:Setup for work laptop

Laptops can only support 2 monitors, the internal and one external. Even with a splitter it will only duplicate the same image on both external monitors, you will need to use separate output cables e.g VGA, HDMI, DVI.

One thing that would work is using a USB video adaptor for a third monitor.

I'm pretty noob with it comes to networks, I can only do the normal stuff.

Well I have a question on this setup I've been thinking. Picture below.

I'm storing all of my movies, videos, music on the "Main PC" raid array, and since the mobo has two Ethernet ports, could I connect the one port to my HTPC so I can stream? (other port goes to the router.)

Hopefully the picture will help.

Answer:Would this mobo and cpu setup work?

I am sort of "out to lunch" as to whether there is a performance difference on the same speed ram from DDR to DDR2, but the higher speeds that are available in DDR2 and the prices are also lower, make it really desirable and for certain 800 ram would be considerably faster than 400.

I have Windows XP Professional installed on my parent's computer alongside Ubuntu Linux. The version of the XP installation that I have is either SP1 or SP2. I think it's SP1. The version of Windows on the system was either SP2 or SP3. My parents got into some state where safe mode will not boot. It just cycles in a loop. Ubuntu works fine. I inserted the XP Pro installation CD and it will not bring me to a menu. It brings me to a screen that tells me to insert bootable media or setup storage device then reboot. So that seems to indicate to me that it's not even recognizing the hard drive. I upgraded to a SATA drive about 4 years ago. Not sure if that's the problem since SATA probably did not exist when I bought the install CD. I'm also using GRUB as my boot manager to switch between Linux / Windows. Anyone know what the issue could be here? What would prevent the setup CD from reaching the Install / Repair Install / Recovery Console screen?

i am a complete beginner and i wanted to know how easy it would be to set up a home network (2 Pc's, a printer and the internet), and what would i need to do it

Answer:net work setup for beginners

To create a wired network for Internet access and File/Printer sharing, you have essentially two options:1) Install a Network Adapter in each PC (if not already installed) and connect them directly with a crossover CAT5 ethernet cable. ?Internet Connection Sharing? is then enabled on the actual Internet connection in the ?host? PC and the ?client? PC will have Internet access provided the ?host? is running and online. To enable ?Internet Connection Sharing? in Windows XP, open the Network Connections folder, right click the actual internet connection (modem connection), select Properties and then the Advanced tab. Tick the box ?Allow other network users to connect through this computer?s Internet connection?.When you enable "Internet Connection Sharing" on the Internet connection, it automatically configures the network adapter used for your "Home Network Connection" with the IP address 192.168.0.1 and subnet mask 255.255.255.0. If you have more than one adapter available for this purpose, e.g. both a "Local Area Connection" and a "Wireless Network Connection", you will have a drop down list from which to select the appropriate adapter. The "Client" PC's Local Area Connection should be set to get its IP address automatically, which it does by DHCP from the "Host" PC. Also, if you run the Zone Alarm firewall in your "Host" PC, the Internet Zone Security level must be reduced from High to Medium or "ICS" traffic will be blocked.2) The preferred option ... Hi everyone. I am looking to buy a new router and I had some questions before making the purchase. I have a Windows XP machine (does not have wifi support) that I am connecting directly to the router I have right now via an ethernet cable. I also have a laptop and a phone that I am using but they are connected to my router using wifi. I was wondering that if I got a new router, Will I still be able to connect my windows XP machine to the new router using an ethernet cable. I dont know if the router I am using right now has some special capabilities to let a Windows XP machine connect to the internet. Thank you.

Summary: Will I be able to connect a computer that does not have wifi to a new router using an ethernet cable and still receive an internet connection?

Answer:What router would work for my setup?

Answer:Help keyboard won't work at setup

By wired, are you talking the PS/2 style or USB? If they are PS/2, is there any chance you can get your hands on a USB adapter or USB keyboard? XP will take a few seconds and then load the USB drivers, but it sounds like your ps/2 ports might have issues.

Where I work we have dll's that connect to network shares for file access in a format like \\computername\share\file.xml I am going to be working remotely soon and therefore will be doing a lot of work disconnected from our network. When this starts the dlls won't work anymore because they obviously won't be able to find the computer.

I was hoping I could modify my hosts file to route all of the calls to those computers back to my own by using my ip address. I would set up the same folders in hopes that the dlls would continue to function. When I modified my host file to have....

192.168.1.138 publish1

... and then went to start>run>\\publish1 I get a login box. It doesn't matter who I try to login as (currently logged onto the machine under the administrator account) it just comes back to the login box and won't let me get any further.

Does anyone know how I can make this work so that I can make any path point back to my own computer? Thanks.

I currently have this setup
- i3 2120 stock @ 3.30 GHz
- Powercolor 7750 1GB
- ASRock H61M-DGS Micro ATX LGA1155 Motherboard
- Corsair 500W
- 8 GB RAM

I want to know if uprgrading to this GPU (Powercolor 7870 Myste Tahili LE):http://us.ncix.com/products/?sku=78372 would be possible. I know that the GPU's minimum voltage is 500W, which i have, but will that fry/break my card by any chance? Also, will the i3 2120 bottleneck this card at all? Will it run games closely to an i5, or is there a major difference? I could barely play the BF4 beta on low settings with my current card, and a $200 jump should be a nice change. I have a 1440 x 900 monitor, so should I see higher FPS than a 1920 x 1080 monitor? ANY feedback would be great (including estimated FPS in some games ).
Forgot to mention - What is UEFI? It says that on the box, and I was wondering what it did. Will i need that to run this card or something? Thanks again!

Hello,

I've jumped into Vista x64 and am loving it so far, got everything worked out in hardware and software, until now.

I have a program I'm trying to install whose setup file is a "32-bit Setup Launcher" (also the description name in Task Manager).

However, nothing happens, it just remains in the windows process list but doesn't install. I've already ticked XP compatibility mode, and run as administrator.

The setup file is below (7MB). It's a special DVD format authoring tool called Discwelder Bronze.

http:// masi.hosting4less.com/Demos/discWelderBRONZEDemo.exe

(manually extract for the setup file).

Will I have to rig up a dualboot with my old x86 Vista in order to use it?
The only other program I have that doesn't work, is MARIO & LUIGI ().

I don't get any choice to choose during boot-up.

I didn't have this problem with the windows 7 RC1. How can I set
this up so I can choose the OS during boot-up?

Thanks!

Tyler

I can't afford a true 5.1 Dolby Surround System so I've opted for the Logitech Z506 as it gives a 3D Surround Sound effect and apparently the sound is awesome for the 75w it has. I have a couple of questions on whether the setup I have in mind would work and whether there are any alternatives. First of all, I have a Macbook Pro(late 2011) and it doesn't have the necessary sound card to plug the speakers cables in to create the 5.1 sound so, I want to buy this Audio Dicoder and attach it to my Mac via this cable and plug the speakers cables into the three ports on the decoder. My first question is, would this Toslink cable fit into the regular 3.5mm port on my Mac and second, would this make the audio from my Mac 5.1 Surround Sound. My second query is whether I could plug a second toslink cable(the one that comes with the decoder) into my Xbox 360 and make the audio go 5.1?
Thank you, any and every answer is appreciated, oh and please keep it fairly basic as I am not very experienced. xD

Answer:Will this Logitech Z506 Setup work?

Does the Mac have an optical 3.5mm port? I don't believe that it does. I believe it has a standard 3.5mm analog port. If you have HDMI, you can use that. Otherwise, you will have to use a USB device.

There is a WAMP server (Win 7 pro 32bits) which needs to be accessed over the internet. Access to WAMP from another computer in the local network is ok. Access to Remote Desktop throught the internet also works. But access to WAMP over the internet does not work.

Would like to receive some instruction on how to proceed in order to enable access this web server from the internet.

Thanks in advance.

Answer:How to setup WAMP to work over the internet?

Does your router/default gateway set for the server have NAT running?

The issue with NAT is that any private address is changed to the public address and any connection from the internet will not know what address to reach unless originally initiated by a device (PAT)

May I ask, How are you initiating the Remote Desktop connection? Via hostname or IP address?

Also have you made sure that the correct ports are allowed on the personal firewall of the server (If any) as well as the router itself as this can block certain ports. Please note that it is possible for your ISP to block certain ports depending on the package you have with them however these are normally uncommon ports to prevent malicious attacks.

Many Thanks,
Josh!
