Question: Can read emails in Outlook 2007 automatically disappear?

I received an email from a friend last Saturday. I read it on Sunday from my Outlook inbox but did nothing with it. On Monday I went to reply but it had disappeared. I have repeatedly checked deleted items and everywhere else in Outlook and can't find it. Someone else who used my laptop on Sunday denies having done anything with the email. Can it have really disappeared without human intervention?

Depending on your email provider, and the Outlook settings, you may still be able to access the email on the provider's webmail page. For example, if you read BT emails through Outlook, going to BT.com and logging in there will show all emails received. BUT, if Outlook is not setup to leave mail on the server, they may not be there.

We have a user who's emails suddenly "disappear" from view when she is using Outlook 2007. Our Exchange server is running Exchange2010. The user has multiple Mailboxes that she has permission to view. Also, she has a PST file for archiving emails off of Exchange server.

When her emails "disappear" she is usually clicking on different folders that have been created under her in-box. She has to click around folders before the emails return to view in her in-box.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? If so, what have you found as a resolution?

Are you sure she isn't dragging and dropping?

if all folders are on the exchange server, make sure she is allowing enough time for them to appear again after going to another folder. It probably isn't as fast as viewing files on your computer or network shares.

And no I have never experienced that phenonomon, but then we don't create a lot of folders on the exchange. Normally only PST folders on our computers.

When I read an email and click delete, it is suppose to go into my DELETED folder. When I go to my DELETED folder, all it shows is the unread emails. I am sure I did this by choosing some option when I first set this up....I am new to Outlook but now I can't figure out how to undo it. I want to be able to see my 'read' emails. Thank you for any help you can give this 'older' lady.

MS Outlook 2007 automatically deletes emails once they are read. The only way to save them is to move them to a folder other than the inbox. I felt there was probably a setting for this but I have been unable to find it. My older version of Outlook did not do this and I am at a loss. Thanks!!

In Outlook 2007, set your view to this:
View > Current View > Messages
Do you see the Read messages now?

Hi All,

Thanks for reading. I have a web based email which is a 123 webmail one. Up until late last week I was receiving emails no problem since then I have had nothing. It's not that I am unpopular.

I have narrowed the problem down to... I can receive emails sent from Google, Yahoo and Hotmail emails. But whenever an email is sent through outlook this outlook email not only does not arrive but it deletes everything else in my inbox.

My head is about to explode with frustration. I don't know what to do or how to solve this.

Looking for inspiration from anywhere.

Not sure why mail being sent through Outlook is not actually being sent. Does it report any errors when sending? Are the messages shown as being sent?

If you are having Outlook check for new incoming e-mails on your email account(s), it may be downloading them to your computer and then deleting them from the server. There should be an advanced options setting in Outlook to have it leave incoming messages on the server.

So this just started today (like an hour ago). When I get an email in Gmail it shows in my Inbox. If I open it to read it, and then close it, it still shows in my Inbox, but if I refresh then it disappears. Only unread emails show. If I check All Mail it shows the read emails, and shows the tag "Inbox", so they are still there, but just not visible. If I check them as unread in the All Mail view they show again in Inbox, but again, once read, they disappear. It's happening in both Chrome and Firefox. Anyone else having this issue?

For example, the Email or Message tile number disappear when you open and close the app though you may not have even opened and read the message. iOS and Android keep the number of unread messages on the app icon or tile until they are read.

Why? We can only speculate.
my thinking is that is shows what has happened SINCE you last opened the app.

My boss has a unique problem and try as I might, I could not figure out the solution. She uses MS Outlook 2003.
When she receives emails they, of course go into her "inbox". If she opens them, reads them and deletes them, they disappear!
They don’t move to the delete folder and they are not in the “recover deleted emails” folder. They are GONE.
The strange thing is that if she deletes an email WITHOUT opening it, it goes into the deleted folder with no problem.
I have checked and double checked and triple checked the settings to see if there is something in there that is causing this but I’m stumped.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The fact that unopened emails are being displayed in the Deleted Items folder while opened emails are "disappearing" suggests to me that there is some View setting that is filtering out emails that have been read.

Select the Deleted Items folder, and then go to View->Arrange By in the menu bar. Look under Custom.

If you have no luck after investigating all those options, maybe you'll need to restore Outlook's default configuration:

To restore Outlook views, toolbars, menus or settings, you need to reset the content of the OUTCMD.DAT file.

1. Exit Outlook;
2. Locate the OUTCMD.DAT file.
If you are running Windows XP and you installed Outlook on its default path, you can find the file in "C:\Documents and Settings\-USER-\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook", where "-USER-" if the name of your Windows login account. If not, search your local disk for the filename;
3. Rename the OUTCMD.DAT file to a different filename;
4. Restart Outlook.

Once restarted, Outlook should restore the default OUTCMD.DAT file from scratch and you should be able to use Outlook with its default view settings.Click to expand...

Hello all, I'm hoping that you could help me with this, I'm not very computer literate but seem to muddle by well enough until now.

I've recently bought a HP Pavilion and have installed Outlook 2010 and managed to figure it out as best I could, or so I thought.

But I was looking for some emails from the end of February and they've disappeared. My sent items from the same period are there but the recieved emails are not and any conversations from that period, the recived emails are away.

I haven't transferred my old emails from my old Laptop to my new PC.

For the past couple of weeks I've had a user come up with a strange error.
 
We have Exchange 2007, and she is using outlook 2010 on windows 7 64 bit.
 
Some emails are not reaching her inbox, but there seems to be no reason as to what emails, or some will come in one day, but not the next.
 
According to the exchange server, the emails are getting coming in like usual, but they are not appearing on her machine. If I open her webmail after she should have received these emails and outlook was open at the time, they are missing from webmail as well. If I have outlook closed, but have webmail open, the message is received, and opening outlook after that sends the message to outlook as well. Also I can setup her account on other machines and it works there, so it is something specific to that machine.
 
So far, I have tried creating a new profile and removing her old one, reinstalling Microsoft office, then completely removing Microsoft office and scrubbing her profile from the registry before reinstalling. Thus far nothing has worked. I'm up to the point of completely reinstalling the machine, but do to the highly personalized programs on the computer, I am hesitant to do that unless completely necessary.
 
If anyone has any ideas even what the problem actually is, I would appreciate it.

Are there any error messages in the message tracking logs on the server for that user? Are there any error messages in Event Viewer on the user's computer that might provide some clues? Do the senders get an NDR when they try to email this user? Is the user able to send mail using Outlook, or does that get stuck as well?

Had a user who copied some contacts to another user for their use. Now she noticed that a lot of her contacts have disappeared. They were not the ones she copied and they have disappeared. Looked in Deleted Items folder but not there. What could have happened?

I hope somebody can help. I seem to be having real email problems. There are some emails that seem to be pulled off the server, I can see the progress in the lower right hand corner of the screen, and then the emails don't show up in my inbox. It baffles me. The odd thing is that I can see the emails on my Treo. I am beginning to think that there must be a configuration problem between the applications I am using. Can somebody help. I have the following setup:

Outlook 2003
Treo Chattermail
Fastmail
Optimum Online

The other problem is that I cannot delete certain emails. Whenever I try it I get an error message that I already mentioned in a previous mail:
"The messaging interface has returned an unknown error. If the problem persists restart Outlook"
but this does not solve the problem. Those messages also "cannot be displayed in the Reading Pane", so I see nothing but a blank screen on the preview side of Outlook.

Any ideas?

Hope you guys can help with this issue. All of a sudden, incoming messages to the Inbox in Outlook disappear as soon as they are opened and read for the first time. Before you react, let me tell you:

the View is set on Messages, NOT Unread messages only
the Autoarchive is not the problem--no settings have been changed, and messages are not set to expire
Do you have any suggestions for more troubleshooting, or is my only option to delete the account and start over again? Would my messages re-load off the server? Or is this a situation where I need to contact the server--could the problem be on their end? Many thanks.

If you change the View to Unread then toggle it back to Messages, do the read messages appear?

Have you checked for any Rules that may be moving messages?

Send yourself a Test message. Give the subject line a unique name. If the message disappears after being opened, run a Search for it and see if it turns up in a location different than the Inbox.
Is this a home setup or a work computer using Exchange?
If the former, then the problem is on your end. Depending on how you have your options setup, you may or may not be leaving a copy of messages on the server.
If the latter, I would believe your messages are stored on your company's server, but it still sounds like it would be on your end.
Also, the Messages option can be changed, normally the Filter is off.
Click the drop down arrow on the View field and scroll down to Define Views... verify the options have the Filter off.
Highlight the View Name: Messages and click the Reset button.

One of our Outlook 2007 Mail folders has disappeared. we have searched everywhere with no luck. It was a main folder under Inbox in the Mail folder navigation column. The next day, 4 folders appeared under the Deleted Items Mail folder that were not there the day before.

I'm running Outlook 2007. I have noticed that when I create a distribution list in my contacts folder, I can use it for a while, but after a few days, it seems to disappear. What normally happens is I try to send an email to the distribution list. Autocompletion finds it ok, but when I hit the send button, I get the " An internal support function returned an error " message. If I click on the + in the to line, I get an error message: "The name or distribution list has been deleted and is no longer a valid Address Book entry. The operation failed. An object could not be found." Sure enough when I look in my contact folder, the distribution list is gone.

This is happened several times. I create DLs and then they randomly disappear.

I frequently use the Notes field in my Contact entries to save not just text notes, but also to attach relevant files. It's a great utility field.

However, I have yet to figure out a way to email these contacts to others that retains the notes and attachments. Ideally I want to use a vCard format since some of my regular recipients don't use Outlook. Does anyone know the way to do this?

Like many others here, I am also experiencing trouble with MS Outlook when transferring messages from my UOL webmail into MS Outlook Inbox. The message alert appears but the message does not go into the Inbox, it simply disappears.
I have checked all basic configurations and have also checked if the problem occurs with certain domains. No it doesn't. It occurs sometimes with hotmail, gmail, uol, yahoo, big company domains, without following a rule. I have also executed msconfig and outlook /safe.

Mine is an original Windows XP Professional system and original Office Package. Some software I have installed that might be conflicting: ABBY Fine Reader, Adobe Flash Payer 10 Activex, Adobe Reader, Google Earth Plug-In, Google tool bar, McAfee Security Scan Plus, McAfee Segurity Center, Solid Print, Metatexis, PracticCount, White Smoke.
There are also some MS Office 2003 web components and I wanted to know if these can be removed without affecting performance of my MS Office package.

Hope someone can help me out. Thank you!

I already know how to create a "read" receipt for sent emails. From my understanding, when you set the function, I will received read receipts for all email that was read. I was wondering if this setting could be set on individual emails instead of all of them. Thanks!

I used to add some of my important emails from Outlook 2007 to OneNote 2007.

Is there a way in Outlook to see which of the messages are added [exported] to OneNote 2007?

For a while now, some emails get automatically deleted from my inbox. They show up in my deleted folder, but if I want to move them back to my inbox, it gets automatically moved back to my deleted folder.
This happens with emails from a few companies, but I might also happen with other random emails.
For as far as I know I never created any rules for these email addresses (at least not on purpose).
This happens on outlook.com

Does anyone know what could be causing this and what I can do about this?

I'm looking to send a bunch of files automatically to my customers. At the moment, I have around 100 files per day, which I have to identify, then attach manually to an email and send to each customer. As you can imagine, this is quite time consuming and I'd like to find a way to automate it.

The files do contain the name of the customer, but not their email address. Is there some way I could write a script in Outlook, which could find the name from the file, then match it up with the address book, create the email and then attach the file? I can program in Visual Basic, but it looks quite difficult to do with that. I know nothing about scripting in Outlook, but somebody has advised that that may be the best way forward.

I use OE 6 on my desktop running XP pro, but use Outlook 2007 on my laptop running XP home. I cannot receive attachments sent from my Outlook 2007 to my OE 6 when I send it to myself. They are stripped off, not even showing an attachment. The attachment comes through to other recipients as far as I know, INCLUDING my alternate email address (through at&t). So OE 6 receives the attachment when I send it from my default email account to my at&t account, but not when I send it to from and to my default account. I have checked with my email provider, who has checked the server (IMAP) and they do not see any problem--the attachment is on the server. I have already unchecked all potential blocks under the Security Tab--image blocking and attachment blocking--and am operating in the Internet Zone. And, as far as I know, I am receiving attachments from everyone else in the world. I know there are ways to work around this problem, but it is irritating and I have concerns that my email attachments to clients may be unknowingly blocked. Also, I cannot receive those attachments on my Blackberry either.

I am using Outlook from Office 2000 and very good it is too. The newest email always opens automatically as it arrives onto the preview pane, and when I delete that one the next one automatically opens. How can I stop this? Thanks.

Spent over an hour reading the help section and trying every setting in tools > options

Simple problem really. I just want Outlook XP to automatically send/receive emails when I start it up and periodically afterwards. It used to work fine before for over a year. But now, all of a sudden, it doesn't work and I have to click send/receive button manually each time.

I have been to tools > options > mail setup and clicked 'send immediately when connected', but doesn't have any effect.

if it is anything like outlook express, then go tools, options...then under send/recieve messages (which is in the main tab) select "check for new messages every...mins" and set that to 1 min...so that it will send and receive every 1 min.

I operate windows xp for an os. I am having a very strange issue with outlook. My emails arrive in my inbox. I then open them. Upon closing out of the email, they disappear for good. I can not find them in other folders, I have no rules set up either. I am worried this is a virus issue. Can anyone help me?

My 2007 outlook email receives my emails from hotmail.com, but won't send. Re: SMTP problem. Inbound=pop.live.com, smtp=smtp.live.com. AdvanceSettings=the recommended settings. Tried them all with no results. I've gone through this many times with suggested settings from different forums to no avail. Any answers?

I have Outlook 2010. Until recently, the email address I use the most would
automatically download any emails received every so often. Lately, it doesn't do that.

I went to File-->Options-->Advanced & clicked on Send/Receive. There I made sure that
my main email address was part of on of the groups listed. Then I set that group to
check & download emails every 15 minutes. However, it still is not doing that . How do

I'm just wondering if there is any method to customize or outlook to send automatically a copy of all sent messages to his own inbox folder?
I know, this is possible but it should be done manually by adding his own email each time we want to receive a copy. But I'm looking for a tip that will allow me to automatically receive in my inbox a copy of all sent emails without need to add manually my address whenever I send an email!
In fact, I looking for this, because all my messages in the "inbox" folder will be backed up and recovered easily while I noticed that emails in the "sent messages" folder are always lost after backing up my outlook folders!

If somebody has any advice or tip, it would be very appreciated.

I think Rules should do the trick. Just create an 'after sending rule' to save all sent items to the Inbox, then go to Tools, Options, Email Options and remove the check to save sent items in the Sent Items folder.

I have spent a few hours googling to try and find an answer. It happens on my iPhone, it happens on my new laptop.
I get my emails fine from my Comcast email server account on both, but after two days in my inbox, they just disappear. Its fine on my desktop. (they stay forever)
I really care about finding a fix on my laptop. There must be some kind of setting somewhere.

I recently formatted my Windows XP due to various problems. I have verizon email account. Prior to formatting, my emails were deleted automatically from the web account (netmail.verizon.net) each time I opened outlook. However, this changed after the reformat. I now have two copies of each mail- one in outlook and the other one in the web account. What setting do I need to modify in outlook? Thanks in advance.

I have just installed Office 2007 and am having slight problems with Outlook. It checks for new mail as soon as I load it and I get several error message boxes saying there was a problem and invites me to send an error report. I suspect that it is connecting before the program has fully loaded as it only occurs on startup. After that there are no problems at all. I know there is an option to disable automatic connection but I am blowed if I can find it. Any help would be appreciated. Many thanks

I was just wondering if there is a way to automatically add into my contacts all the e-mail addresses I have sent e-mails to? I've had a thorough look through outlook and google and cannot find a way to do this, or an answer as to whether it's actually possible.

I am having a problem with opening some emails. When I click on some emails, the reading pane is greyed out and when I attempt to open those same emails, they give the following error: "Can't open this item. The text formatting command is not available. It may not be installed correctly. Please install outlook again." I've uninstalled outlook, renamed the reg keys, reinstalled outlook, and still recieve the same error. I tried changing the email editor, still not working. I'm not sure what to do next.

If it was an Outlook issue, all your email messages would be equally affected, but since only some of them are affected, they are probably damaged or corrupt. Nothing you can do about that.

how do i get the emails from my old pc into outlook 2007 on my new pc?

2: Open Outlook, use the import function, and navigate to location X.

Is that what you are doing?

Can you export in more than 1 format? If so, try another format.

It's also a good idea to make manual copies of all of your Outlook Express files (dbx, etc) in case your corrupt the originals during the export/import process.

Email export and import functions haven't improved in the last 10 years, so welcome to reality. I hate changing email programs for that reason.

There are applications out there designed to convert DBX to PST, but I don't know if they are required.

I can't get Outlook to send pictures from my pictures by right clicking on picture,send to,mail recipient then a box comes up called "Choose profile". Profile name says Outlook when I click OK a box called Microsoft Exchange comes up, with error saying MAPI Spooler could not be started... I don't even know what that means??? I can send pictures from Outlook OK by using insert a picture or attachment no problems. Can you help. Sheba53

** Outlook 2003 Sorry wrong title **

Hi just having a problem with the sent items with one of our customers...

They can send emails no problem, they appear in the sent items folder after, but then every so often the emails just disappear, i thought she was just deleting them by accident or something but i sat in front had a look, and about 5 emails just cleared in front of me, cant figure out what it is at all.. Ive checked all the settings there's no setting to say delete after so long, and the save sent messages is ticked, Ive tried to mirror another accounts settings but no change. just wondered if anyone has had the same problem or knows how to fix it ?

Our next thought was re-install office and add the email account again

I was not able to use filters to create a rule to automatically move Read Receipts away from my Outlook Inbox... anybody had any luck?

You should be able to do that through the options menu. I am using Outlook 2003 and here is the information from the help file. It may be different if you are using a different version of Outlook.

On the main Outlook screen Tools menu, click Options.

Click E-mail Options, and then click Tracking Options.

Select the "Process receipts on arrival" check box.

Select the "After Processing move receipts to" check box.

To select a folder other than Deleted Items, click Browse.​

I have been up and down the Internet about this and can't seem to find any useful help anywhere.

I am an admin at company and one of our users has an Outlook 2007 rule that I created for him. This rule will automatically turn itself off when ever it wants to; no rhyme or reason behind it that I can see.

The rule simply moves a copy of an email from an IMAP account to a folder on the exchange account.

This is setup on various other users accounts as well as mine and it doesn't seem to be affecting anyone else.

Any help would be grateful. If anyone requires any additional information, please let me know.

Hi guys,

Outlook 2007 is not send/receiving automatically. I am pretty sure its a profile issue rather than a PC issue as its only certain users that this does not work for.

Here are the solutions that i have tried and they have not worked.

I have run into a problem that I have no idea how to troubleshoot. We have configured an Outlook 2007 client on a workstation that is located in one of our retail stores. Every 3 weeks or so I get a call from them saying that they are not able to receive email.

They receive an error from the incoming mail server.

When I look at the settings two fields have been changed.

1) The incoming name server is changed from "mail.usinternet.com" to "localhost".

2) The username is changed from "corren" to "corren/mail.usinternet.com".

When I make the change to set the incoming mail server back to mail.usinternet.com and the username to corren it works.

Every time they have problems, this is the change I notice that has been made. I am 98.99999% certain that it is not a case of an employee changing the settings.

How does this happen? It seems to happen on it's own.

Hi there,

For a while I've been using Windows Live Mail, on Vista. It worked well for ages, but has recently refused to send mail. After giving up on fixing it, I set up Outlook instead. Same settings and accounts as WLM, a couple IMAP accounts and one HTTP (Hotmail account). Works fine, only problem is that Outlook doesn't automatically retrieve mail. I've set it so that it runs send/receive once a minute, which is okay, but I would rather emails come through when they're actually sent. My main qualm, however, is that even when send/receive is run, there is no notification for new mail. No popup message in the corner, no change in the tray icon, nothing. I just have to keep checking it, which is annoying.

Anyway to fix those two issues?

At the office, my work email receives emails when they're sent, and a popup box appears in the lower left corner. We run an Exchange server there, so mayhap that makes a difference.

Actually I've just found that it does indeed have a new icon in the tray upon the receipt of a new message. So the 1 minute send/receive doesn't really bother me.

My mom has multiple accounts in Outlook 2007.

Her personal account and the account she uses for our little orchestra to send sheet music.

Is it possible to make that in each subject automatically is [SHEETMUSIC] or something like that? Or automatically make the message line in the inbox yellow or something? She just wants to see quickly that it's a confirmation for a received part.

It is not clear to me - you are trying to sort incoming messages or outcoming.

To add specific subject line for newly created messages your mom can create a template and save that template whereever she wants or pin it somewhere and open template when she needs it.
In template you can predefine whatever you want - recepients, subject lines, text, appearance.

Hi All,One of my user is having an issue where his emails become marked as read even though he has not selected it.  It's not happening to all of his emails and for the ones that do occur, it happens after a couple of minutes.. usually within 10 minutes.  The 'mark as read' option is turned off on his Preview Pane within Tools > Options.  We are using Outlook 2002 with an exchange server.  Has anyone ever come across this issue?  Thanks in advance for any help/advice.Sfatsura

I have a customer who is having problems receiving text emails.
When a text email is sent to her the body is blank. However if I send her a html email she can read it fine.

What would cause this? What are some things I can look at to fix this?

I have looked through the tools>options and didnt find anything that would seem to cause this.

I posted a problem about this yesterday in so far as Outlook performed everything when turned on except the download of emails from my provider Talk Talk receiving an error code of 0x800CCCOF I am following up a suggestion by an helpful reader but it came to me over night that I recently changed by access password for Talk Talk. Anybody ever seen this behavior with Outlook 2007? All the emails are there if I log into our company's web email portal (outlook web access). If I click on one of the emails a message pops up in the pane to the right, "This message cannot be viewed" etc. Already made sure the view filters were off.

Hi,

I recently upgraded from Outlook 2000 to 2007 under XP SP2. I have three accounts on the same POP3 server. After installation, it threw errors importing some of my rules and disabled the rest. Some of these rules (now bad) were for moving emails arriving from each account and moving them to the appropriate folder. Since these rules wouldn't import properly (and were disabled) it put all new messages in the same folder. OK, easy enough to fix.

However, whenever I logged on it would also download duplicates of all my messages. Over 5000 messages. Sometimes triplicates. I spent around a day paintsakingly removing these. It's difficult because if I remove the wrong one, it deletes the original from my POP server. In other words, if a particular message has two or three dupes, only ONE of them is truly associated with the original (on server) and therefore cannot be deleted locally. I can however safely delete the other local copies (the original remains on the server). The problem it can be impossible to tell which copy points to the original and which doesn't. It's necessary to archive all messages on my POP server for accessing on other systems so deleting these isn't an option.

I then deleted the old rules and added new rules for putting the messages from each account into their proper folders. I immediately discovered what appears to be a new bug in 2007. Of the three accounts, when I make a rule to move messages received from account#3 and hit... Read more

Update: I just discovered that Outlook just deleted over 1500 emails from one of my accounts off the POP3 server! I have always specified that messages are to be left on the server. What may have done it is the new feature in Account Settings where I Changed the folder in order to tell it where to put the email. Suffice to say I'm quite upset. Does anyone know if there's a way to upload email (intact) back to the POP server?

Hi Everyone,

I recently started using Outlook after a few years with Thunderbird. I've been having issues receiving e-mails with Outlook as there has been a 30 minute - 1 hour lag time from when new messages are received in my actual inbox and when Outlook refreshes to notify me of the new mail.

Is there any way to correct this?

I've just installed Microsoft Office 2007 and now when I try to download my emails with outlook it just keeps asking me for my password! All my email accounts were set up for me a few years ago so I don't know the passwords. Is there any way I can transfer all the password information from my old outlookprogram to the new one?

Any ideas would be greatly appeciated!

I had been happily using outlook 2007 with outlook connector to manage my hotmail account. A few days ago because my account had been hacked I had to get the password reset via Microsoft.

When I got my reset details, I went to my email via windows live hotmail and everything looked OK.

However, when I went into outlook, it would not accept the new password and I decided to set it up as a new account. This all went very well but I noticed that the new account was not showing up to date emails - the last several days emails were missing. (I have also checked via windows live and they are now missing there also). I have clicked on ?send/receive all? but it seems to be taking forever to do things. That process eventually completed but the missing emails have not been restored.

Anyone got any advice? Should I delete all the accounts and start again ? would this be simple?

In Outlook 2007 I do not see any images from some senders. All I see is image placeholders. Most other senders are ok. This is getting annoying. Is there any way to fix this?

Hi all,

I've read over some of the other similar threads and couldn't find my answer...

Every time I send out an email to someone with outlook, it sends a random number of invisible emails as well. Naturally, I assumed this was a trojan or a virus, or some type of malware and took steps to find and remove it, running SuperAntiSpyware, malwarebytes anti-malware and AVG 8, all of which turn up blank.

Other threads were answered stating that it could be read receipts, but I do not send those out even when requested. I know for a fact emails are being sent from one of my accounts because I am getting signed up to tons of news letters that state my IP and what day/time I signed up for the crap, even though I didn't send anything to those addresses. Furthermore, I am getting bounced emails being returned, as well as reply to spam that was supposedly sent from my account.,

I could use some help with this!

I know it?s not environmentally friendly to print out emails but for work I don?t have a choice.The problem I have using Outlook 2007 is that when I print an email a dialogue box appears asking how many copies I want but not giving me the option to choose page 1 of 2 for example.Therefore I print off numerous pages a day with just a few lines on page 2, usually the client?s disclaimer to be put into the recycle box.Has anyone found a swift and effective way either through Outlook or with a separate program to only print off the pages you want?Hopefully I?m not being totally dumb and missing something obvious.Thank youFatboy415

I use a much older version of Outlook, so the following may not be relevant, but...When you print, are you just clicking the print button? If so, try clicking Print on the File menu instead. This should give you the full choice of printer options to select from.

Hello,

Occassionally, my outlook 2007, sends 3 emails for no apparent reason. These emails do not show up in my 'sent' folder. I have 3 email accounts on my outlook.

Is this some normal operation, or is there likely to be something sinister?

in these cases, I have no reason to believe that I have any read reciepts being sent, and no junk mail or spam.

Hello,

I am forced to be a tech guy against my will in my job as controller. Recently we purchased a new dell PC that came with Office 2007 Sm. Bus. Edition with Outlook 2007 with bus. contact manager. The original .pst file was on a network and was from Outlook 2003. When 2007 gets a new email it shows up on the left as a number (as in how many new emails are in your inbox but does not show the emails in the pane on the right. It will show them if you go into another folder and then back into the inbox. I have been researching this for awhile but no luck. From various sources I have tried the following:

1-the inbox has no rules or filters applied
2-Windows firewall has outlook.exe as an exception and antivirus is norton 10.1 on our server.
3- Ran Office diagnostics (no problems found).
4- renamed the following files and restarted outlook (extend.dat/frmcache.dat/outcmd.dat)

I have noticed a few people have posted this problem around different places but no definative answers. Any other suggestions for me. Thank you very much

Emails are receiving fine on laptop that has outlook 2013 and they are also coming through on iphone.

outlook 2007 shows that they are being downloaded but they wont show in the inbox.

Junk email folder is always empty? are they going to junk and getting auto deleted?

I've tried going into safe mode with outlook but no success, also checked my rules and nothings there either.

The computer also doesn't have any anti virus that would delete them as its only got Microsoft security essentials.

I can't flag emails with Outlook 2007. Is there a setting i have missed setting up to do this?

No its likely done a slightly different way in Outlook 2007 than older versions of Outlook, some notable changes to Outlook 2007 in discontinued features and modified functions


But I tend to flag mine up using the two changed features, one is in that you can flag your emails with colours to highlight different types of email, work, depts, personal etc using the Category colours



Then you can add time scales as in the To Do flags



Gone is the way you could in Outlook 2003 and below in colouring the flags with blue, green, orange etc its now the Category options. I looked but couldnt see where these two options could be turned off or on, so they IIRC are defaulty on.

I have been playing around in a limted way another option to sort and flag emails but this application while free is still in beta and by invite, although they do send invites out very quickly, its called Clear Context and maybe worth a look, does however have a very quick splash screen pop up each time you load Outlook, not had time to see if this can be disabled as yet.

Hello all,

I have a customer who recently purchased a new laptop with Windows Vista Home Premium. She also bought Outlook 2007 and installed it. Her PC is hooked up to a DSL line through Bellsouth, which is now AT&T, but she is using a Sprint Air Card to access the internet from her new laptop.

The problem: She is able to receive emails but is unable to send emails from her laptop using her new Outlook 2007.

I have checked all her account settings and they are all correct.
POP3 is - mail.bellsouth.net Port is 110
SMTP is - mail.bellsouth.net Port is 25 These are correct according to AT&T

She errantly had two antiviruses installed, Norton and Kaspersky so I uninstalled both of them but the problem persists.

Has anyone ever heard of this issue and if so do you have a fix??

To explain in more detail, i am in HR and i was looking for a feature in Outlook 2007 to send the SAME email to 500 applicants (like "Sorry, you didn't get the job..." etc.). However, the current scripts i have used opens up every single email while its pasting the same message and sending which slows my computer for an hour.

All i need is to send the same email to 500 people at once (by holding down ctrl, selecting the emails and right clicking 'Reply to All') using 1 email and having all recipients automatically populated into the BCC field (so they cant see the other applicants names).

It doesn't have to be a script, but can be any add-on or software.
Does anyone know of anything?

Hello, The computer's OS is Windows Vista and the version of Outlook is Outlook 2007.I have noticed that the e-mails sent through Outlook 2007 aren't going through. Upon sending them, they remain in the Outbox and are labeled "This message has not been sent." Sending them again from the Outbox does not change this, and I have no idea how long this has been going on. I have looked under the account settings in Outlook and used the program's Test Account Setting feature to identify an error message. The account will log into the incoming mail server (POP3) just fine. I have a laptop running windows 7 and outlook 2007
I have no problems searching the emails on the server, but as that fills I have other folders which are saved on my HD, for some reason if I try to search for an email in one of those folders I get nothing, it used to work at one time.
I get a message about items not all indexed and if I click on index status it says outlook us currently indexing your items, 4393 items remaining across all open mailboxes. This number has not gone down in hours it may have actually went up.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

At work we are running 2 email accounts (both IMAP) one is our Admin and the other the Boss's, but something very odd is occurring.The admin account on one machine does not seem to 'keep' messages. A new email will arrive, and can be read, but with in 10-15 minutes its no longer available, today for example, we've received around 15 emails, but there no longer in the Inbox,The Boss's account on the same machine (and same outlook) seems to be keeping them fine, and I can read messages in the inbox from weeks ago.Another machine in the office also has Outlook 07, and access to the Admin and Boss IMAP accounts, and stores them no problem.I've rigorously gone through both account settings on both machines to find what the problem is, but to no avail.Any help here would be appreciated-Nic Apps

I have had the same problem and I have found a solution to it. Its a quirky solution, a plaster over the problem rather than a cure, but it has worked for me. I have found that if you have more than one email in the outbox, the second emails sends ok. So what i did is this. I prepared an email to a non-existant email address as the first email in the outbox, then replied to my emails as normal. And it works. Since then I have kept the "first email" in the outbox and its all working ok. Not an elegant fix as such, but frankly I can't be bothered to fix it proberly. Good luck, hope it works for you too.

Hi there

I've a new client that will not entirely sync new emails...

XP Pro SP3
Outlook 2007.
Connecting to a Small Biz Server 2003 Exchange Mailbox.
It begins to sync mail from the folders.
However after 4+ hours not entirely successful.
Most folders are not propagated.
No email at all in the mailbox.

Another PC with Outlook 2003 is fine.

I've recreated the outlook profile and also recreated the users windows profile. All the same.

User has local admin rights.

Any suggestions?

Just a quick reply... yes it seems that the other Outlook 2003 is grabbing the emails down to a PST file... unusual... wont know till tomorrow am.

PC is new with Vista O/S and Outlook 2007 freshly installed by PC mfr. Messages received in INBOX disappear one by one each time I select another sub folder to access messages set up by Organize/Rule. The messages disappear from the main INBOX only, not from the sub folders. What would be the proper remedy to fix this problem? Suggestion anyone? Your input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Outlook --> View --> Arrange By --> Current view --> XXXXXXXXXXx

Whats the option selected with a check mark here ? Messages or Unread Messages in this folder ?

Make sure this option is set to Messages.

If this doesn't fix it , export all the rules , delete from the list and then send your self a few test messages. Open Outlook and check if it works well this time. If it does then one of the rules could be playing spoilt sport.

Hi,

My work means I deal with a lot of emails and often when someone emails me I need to scan outlook for previous email history between us. Is there a way to add notes to these emails so it can remind me of particular things? Flags do not seem to be the answer. What I am looking for is being able to put a comment next to the email when it finds it in the search or something along these lines?

Hi,

So i was having issues with my drive and cannot run a reinstall of windows vista on it.

So installed vista on another drive i had, plugged my original drive in as a lave drive and i can still see old my old data

If there a way on my old HDD i can get all my old emails from outlook or not as there is a few i need and i did keep them on a PST file

My daily news email from 'Slashdot' gets truncated in 2007 but is received in full on my pc running Outlook 2003.It occurs at a point where Outlook 2003 shows two little boxes (unprintable characters?) after a letter "b", as in "... musician myself b** what rights do ...". [I have replaced the box symbols with **].In 07 the email ceases at the "b".Google search indicated a similar problem in an earlier version of Office, but I cannot find any help on Msoft website. The problem can be replicated on another pc running XPProSP2 and O2007.Ian.

I have a user who gets a lot of read receipts. Is there a way to set up Outlook 2003 so that once he clicks on them, they go directly to the delete folder, and not have to be manually deleted each time? They get over a hundred each day.

Welcome to the forum.

Setup a rule to have them automatically move them to a folder. When he is done with them he can then do a CTR+A which will select all of them and then hit Delete to delete them and throw them into the deleted items folder. You can also do a Shift+Delete to permanently delete them and bypass the Deleted Items folder all-together.

Does anyone know why my gmail IMAP doesn't automatically connect when I first open Outlook? I have several acounts connected via imap and for some reason it is just this one account that doesn't automatically connect via imap. Any settings through gmail I need to adjust?

Hi Everyone,

I am having an issue with messages not automatically showing up in Outlook. I use Outlook 2007 (with all relevant Service Packs, and updates), and whenever I look at my emails now I see the following message instead of the "message content".


When I click on "Download the rest of this message now" I can see the message, after an inconvenient delay, however I would like to revert back to my old settings so that I can avoid this time wasting step.

I have followed the link below in an attempt to fix this issue -

What I am finding is that my settings in Outlook are correct, the option to "Download the rest of this message now", is not ticked for any of my mailbox folders.

At any rate I am at a loss, and any help here will be greatly appreciated.

Hello,
I am having problems with Outlook 2007 automatically forcing line breaks. In the picture below, I didn't hit Enter once during that middle section and it still forces the breaks. Would anyone happen to know why?

I am on an Exchange server, so I sent an email from Outlook 2007 and now I'm on a Mac (using Entourage) so that's how I'm viewing it.

Hi,

We are using outlook 2007 on windows XP & Vista PCs. IMAP & SMTP account is configured in the outlook. Mail are working fine for incoming & outgoing. we are using it on more than 50 PCs, every week, SMTP Authentication got disable automatically from outlook & mails stops sending. When we manualy enabled SMTP Authentication, it starts working. After some time on another PC SMTP Auth got disabled. Pl. advice what we can do.
