got a spam email from British Airways and Facebook today to my guarded email-ran malwarebytes but??

Question: got a spam email from British Airways and Facebook today to my guarded email-ran malwarebytes but??

I have a few email addresses and one that I use paringly ie keep it for certain items, but today in quick sucession I got 2 spam emails on it, one from British Airways and the other from FB.
I then ran malwarebytes and quite a few PUP's were found BUT and this is the big but, a lot of the items found appeared to be useful and I then realised I do not have a clue what I should or should not delete!!
My queries are, how can my email get out and is there any guide that will tell me what to delete and not delete in malawarebytes?
I use win xp pro, norton security, spyblaster, ccleaner and on occasions try a few otehrs like malaware, adaware and so on.

Preferred Solution: got a spam email from British Airways and Facebook today to my guarded email-ran malwarebytes but??

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: got a spam email from British Airways and Facebook today to my guarded email-ran malwarebytes but??

"how can my email get out"
it will be in the address book of anyone that you have sent an email to and if their pc or webmail is compromised the spammers will have all the addresses from their address books.
As for PUPs (Potentially Unwanted Programs) only you will know if you use the program(s) in question and whether you want them or not.
Or perhaps you could list them and ask for opinions?

Hi guys,
'Boopme' had me run MiniToolBox and he wrote that he found "errors and other issues" and he bumped me to this thread.
Norton now seems to be removed and the restart was successful w/ out a restore.
This is what I wrote in under the from "Am I infected?" thread;

Been having problems with my laptop running Vista Home premium svc pack2.
One day, a month ago, Norton was not updating properly. Upon the next boot-up windows would not start and I was forced to restart in safe mode with a system restore. This was successful but Norton Security Suite was still not updating properly.
Since then, on a few occasions, I have attempted to uninstall Norton without success thru the program uninstaler. Norton is unresponsive. I even got the Norton rep. to do a remote deletion of all registry files of Norton. But they all returned after the reboot of my PC because windows would not open and I had to start-up thru system restore.
Since then my yahoo email been hacked and spam sent to the contacts of my address book.
I know I got something but I don't know what.. Can anyone take a stab at what I might need to do?

Running Win 7 .  Opened spam email by mistake and email account hacked. Acct locked by server after 1600 email sent. Account has been recovered.  I ran full scan with Microsoft Essentials and Malwarbytes and both clean.  Then I did a full scan with Kapersky and it showed 1 malware  of Trojan.JS.Agent.cfl located on my external harddrive in my backup files location and possibly 2 other locations on the report.  I have pdf ofKapersky report if want to see.
I also ran AVG 2015 and it was clean.
Not sure if I should just delete the backup files from my external hard drive.
What other scans can I do to make sure everything is OK?? - I have not noticed anything unusual with computer yet but want to ease my mind.

Hi, I'm having a problem with my email. I was clearing out my folders and notice an email in my junk file sent from myself to myself. Same email to and from. It was flagged as important and having read it, it is clearly spam. I checked Windows Live Mail and found a couple more of these emails that have been sent from me, to me.

I tried searching for this online but apart from some answers about email 'worms' I don't know what's caused it, if my account is at risk/should be deleted, or how to fix it. Any help would be appreciated.

I got up the message source in Windows Live Mail and the top of this (before the HTML for the email) is as follows, I have blocked out my email address with [email protected] for privacy:

I think I have asked this before. I am getting so much spam email im sick of deleting it all! These fat heads who send it to me I wish they would stop.

Some of the emails say "Your date has been approved with Jenn" Then will say my husband is away for a week so if the first date goes well we will try another.

Come talk to jean and see her body at bla bla website.

I get so many others too. Partsolver and towel direct?? I now have between my two computers almost 200 unread of spam emails and some thats not spam. It takes forver to go through and delete them all.

Ive been told not to hit unsubscribe but sometimes it helps. They say then they know your email is valid. Well they must or they would cease to email me so whats it going to matter to unsubscribe?

Ive even tried to "bounce to sender" but nothing works! Is there any way to block emails from these people? Or not allow them on my server? A auto bounce before they even come on my pc?

Maybe I should just ask my ISP I dont know. I thought id ask one last time.

Answer:I get lots of spam email to my email address

There are usually two places where SPAM filtres can be effective. The most obvious is at your ISP's Mailbox; because how ISPs handle the spam filter vary, I can give no explicit instructions, although their on-line help section generally will provide those.
The second place is at your Email Client on your computer. FF/Mozilla both include teachable Spam filters that you can use to segregate legitimate mail from the gunk.

The best place to stop SPAM is to be extremely careful about your Email Address. It would be a wise step to have one Email Address for friends, family, and trusted people, and a "throwaway" Email address (s) for on-line registrations, Ebay, or other public places. Once these addresses become, as they will, clogged with SPAM, you can simply delete them and create new addresses, beginning the process over again.

Hello! I'm a (very) long time lurker of this site but recently decided to join. I've had my Windows 8.1 Toshiba Satellite laptop for a bit over a month. About 2 weeks into ownership I started receiving spam emails in my msn account, the one I use to sign into the laptop. These mails are sometimes from me, although I have checked my sent mail and there isn't anything there I haven't personally sent. I signed into a different email account and that one was spammed too, until I signed out.
I access the internet from my phone and my desktop pc (Windows 7). I wasn't sure where the issue was coming from so I turned off the desktop but the problem persisted. I did a system restore on the I ran AntiMalwarebytes, CCleaner, and my antivirus programs which all came back clean, but the problem is still here.
I've factory restored three times, completely reformatted the drive twice and I still have the problem. I installed Windows 10 Preview but I didn't receive any spam for the hours I had it running. I reinstalled my OEM version of 8.1 and within 2 hours the spam emails started. The last time, I hadn't even installed my firewall and antivirus program when the spam email started. I also noticed that my OneDrive says the last time the files were synced was in 1969.
Having the laptop in airplane mode or shut off is the only way I don't receive spam.

Over the last few days I have been receiving a lot of "failure notice" and "undeliverable email" to my email address. It seems that my email address has been forged and spam/unsolicitated emails are being sent using my email address.I am worried that this willl cause genuine emails not to pass through other people's servers as my domain name would be blacklisted. Is there any practical solution to this?

Answer:spam/spoofed email using my email/domain name

fraid not as it would seem that someone with your e mail address in their address book has become infected and is mailing out as everyone in that book, but because your mail is genuine the 'bounce' comes back to you.johnny

New spam loophole: poorly guarded home PCs
New York
March 12, 2004

Next time you're looking for a culprit for all that junk mail flooding your inbox, have a glance in the mirror.

Spammers are increasingly exploiting home computers with high-speed internet connections into which they've cleverly burrowed.

Email security companies estimate that between one-third and two-thirds of unwanted messages are relayed unwittingly by PC owners who set up software incorrectly or fail to secure their machines.

David Lawrence, 43, owns such a computer, which turned into a "spam zombie" when a virus infected it in October. Five or six spammers were using his cable modem to remotely send pitches for products like Viagra and boosters for mobile phone signals.

"Spammers and the people who write these viruses ... is their life so void that they feel they have to mess up other people?" said Lawrence. "To me, it's criminal."

The self-employed American businessman from Georgia said he learned of his computer's culpability when his internet service got suspended. "I called to find out what was going on because I knew I had the bill paid," he said. Lawrence is by no means alone.

Hundreds of thousands of computers worldwide have been infected by SoBig and other viruses that are programmed to spawn gateways, known technically as proxies, to relay spam. Though Lawrence had antivirus software, he hadn't kept it updated.

I have Windows XP -home edition and cable modem internet.
I use Internet explorer and firefox. I have tried several times today to log in to my yahoo email account and it will not open it.
I get to the log in page, which never seems to completely download--but I sign in anyway and keep getting "This page cannot be displayed" -- I have cleared my temp.internet files, and history , and deleted cookies also --and then restarted the computer, shut down completely and turned it on again . Nothing works. I called the guy who works on my computer and he couldn;t log on either. we both have the same hi speed internet company. -- Mediacom out of Effingham, IL.
So do you think the problem is our internet service or Yahoo? All other internet things work fine--my hotmail account is no problem or anything else. Just Yahoo mail.

My inbox got hacked and everybody got an email with some bogus link. I called my provider and they gave me an 888 number to yahoo tech support. He asked to take over my computer to check some things out while I watched. He could tell I have a free version of AVG and at the end of the day I have 282 threats (tracking cookies) 0 registry and 0 memory issues. He wanted to sell me a 5 year subscription to AVG. I think this is all normal low level threats. I don?t think it?s worth it. I changed my password to a much better one besides I think I?m going to run Microsoft security essentials instead of AVG. As much as I appreciate his help I think it was all about the sale from the start. Just looking for other members experiences.

Answer:My email got hacked today

This is more common than you think. Your computer is clean. The only thing you have to do is change your e-mail password and move forward. Since you did that already, you're all set. I mean, Yahoo's e-mail servers were hacked. They didn't touch anyone's personal computers at all.

The same thing to my Comcast e-mail account. I use Outlook 2003, so the way I found out is like this: one day I was bored and I decided to see if I needed to clean up my Sent Items folder in Comcast's webmail. I logged in and well, lol, I had a ton of e-mails sent out from my account that I did not send - all of them were spam. So changed my password to something much stronger and it hasn't happened since.

So all they're doing is hacking the e-mail servers. This means they don't need to touch your personal computer. You see, by hacking the e-mail server, they get access to millions of e-mail accounts all at the same time without needing to access millions of personal computers.

This is what the email contained:HUGE VIRUS COMING ! PLEASE READ & FORWARD ! Hi All, I checked with Norton Anti-Virus, and they are gearing up for this virus! I checked Snopes, and it is for real. Get this E-mail message sent around to all your contacts ASAP.& nbsp;PLEASE FORWARD THIS WARNING AMONG YOUR FRIENDS, FAMILY AND CONTACTS! You should be alert during the next few days. Do not open any message with an attachment entitled 'POSTCARD FROM HALLMARK,'regardless of who sent it to you. That is the reason why you need to send this e-mail to all your contacts. How can I fix this. Mail I receive has correct time and date.

Answer:Email Sent Today Dates 2003

I would check both the bios settings and the clock settings for your machine, as that is where the email gets it's info from.

Unfortunately, I'm off to class, so hopefully, if that is not the case, someone else can assist. To boot into to bios, choose start > shut down > reboot option, then when the screen is black with white letters look carefully for something like 'press f10 to enter setup', or 'press del to enter setup'. Then press it. If you miss it, just hold the power button down and try again.

good luck, later, sorry I couldn't stick around.

I have a situation where someone has 2 email addresses. One of them is now redundant and I have deleted it from the People section. However, when I am set to make a new email to that person and type the first letter of their name, in the pop up window (that you can click on) their old email address still appears.
How do I delete this from that list? Can find no way to do so.

Answer:Outlook Email - Deleting Wrong Email Entry when starting new email

In new email, start typing the address you want to remove. When you have enough characters for auto complete to show it (sometimes one letter is enough), use DOWN ARROW key on keyboard to select the address in question and press DEL key.

That's it.

Go figure. I just recieved a used Latitude D600 (via ebay) with Microsoft's Outlook Today on it and can configure, test and recieve email but can't send any!! Under tools/options/mail setup/send and recieve, I find only one group to select and it has, when you try to edit it, only ONE folder to selct: INBOX!

Thats it, just inbox. there's no other selections or for that matter, any way I can see to add one say like fU%$35%!! OUTBOX!!!

Anyone got a clue on what I should do??

Answer:Outlook Today email: can recieve but not send....

Just FYI Microsoft Outlook is a E-mail application and Outlook Today is a web like page of displaying information such as notes, appointments, etc;

If you got it from eBay, I must ask, did you reconfigure Outlook for your e-mail account?

If so, double check the "Outgoing Mail Server" and verify it's the correct server. If this doesn't work, default your ports on the outgoing server.

You may also need to check under More Settings "Outgoing server requires SMTP authentication".

It happened seemingly suddenly. I just booted up my computer in the morning and straight away it started happening!

Question: Email Spam

Apparently, my gmail account is sending out spam - a friend alerted me to getting weird messages from me and, checking my gmail spam folder, I have a handful of Delivery Failure notifications. Message consists only of a weird link.

My Father's email appears to be doing the same thing and, unfortunately, I logged onto my email on his machine a few days ago, which it appears is when mine started. Thoughts/how to proceed?

Just changed my gmail password. Ran Malwarebytes, spybot, MSE on his machine and took a look at the hijack this log, nothing suspicious.

How do I stop spam email from being sent from my email address?

Answer:spam email

You can create a a list of email addresses to block on top of most email providers built-in spam filters.

Other than, there isn't anything you can do to prevent getting spam. It's just one of those things that come with having an email account.

I hope this is the correct place to post this. Anyways, I've been getting Spam in my email from Misty wanting me to see her webcam as well as Candy wanting me to see her pictures, you get the idea...pornography in my email. This hasn't happend in the two and a half years I've had this email account and started just the other day. I've also been getting blank emails or from people I have no idea who they are with weird messages. I ran Ad-Aware, CWShredder, and the About Host deleting program, as well as Spybot and everything is fine. Also ran an Anti-Virus the other day as I had a trojan, but it is gone now. Still getting spam and an occaisonal pop-up. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Question: Spam email

Running Windows 8 and Thunderbird.  Recently had a marked increase in spam email.  Have superantispyware installed and avast.  My isp said bounce back indicated my pc was infected.  I ran superantispyware, adaware, malawarebytes and a few others and got rid of some stuff, among others sefnit.  I reset thunderbird's junk learning and spam reduced to 1 or 2 that were automatically junked.  However, it has increased again almost to previous levels.  Superantispyware detected sefnit but after removing it appeared again, ran malawarebytes and that appeared to get rid of it.  What else can I do?  Thanks.

Answer:Spam email

G'day Thomas,
are you infected ? a word, I would say Yes.
I think the wisest course of action is to go to our MRL area and allow the Experts there to handle this.
Please follow the instructions in the Preparation Guide For Requesting Help  starting at Step #6.
When you have done that, start a new topic and post the required logs to  Virus, Trojan, Spyware, and Malware Removal Logs   forum, NOT here, for assistance by the Malware Response Team Experts.
NOTE :If you are unable to complete any step, please just post the topic and leave a good description of your problems
Best of Luck !
Please be patient. It may take a while to get a response because the MRT Team members are EXTREMELY busy working logs posted before yours. They are volunteers who will help you out as soon as possible. Once you have made your post and are waiting, please DO NOT make another reply until it has been responded to by a member of the MRT Team. Question: Spam & Email Ads

How the heck do I get rid of this stuff? I use Outlook and have the Rules turned on, and it does put most (but not all!!!) of the junk into the "trash" folder, but is there a way to stop it?

I also get mail that says its an "opt-in" mailing. Well, i did not opt in to anything! Whenever I sign up for a site and it asks me to check whether I want to receive mailings from their "partners" I always leave it blank. If I respond to an "opt-in" mailing to be removed will that be as bad as responding to a spam?

I have seen a few that I also think are highly illegal. Like one where you can "buy" a "universal drivers license" that is good in all countries. But i really don't want to spend hours tracking down the domain #s and writing to them.

I'm just sick of email ads.

Only thing, aside from knowing I didn't send it obviously, is that the IP address appears to be someone in Tanzania (lbased on a quick search) and I'm in the UK.

This is just something I'd like to understand... unless it involves a really long answer that's not worth anyone's time.

How is it that I receive email which isn't addressed to me?

I get a fair amount of spam but it's not too bad, OH gets a lot more. When we look at the message source, we see the recipients listed and all the addresses after the @ are our ISP, but none of the names before the @ include the account names we use... well, sometimes they do, but far more don't.

So how is it that these are ever delivered into our inbox in the first place, when there isn't an address match? After all, if any of us sends a legit email to someone, and the address is no longer valid, it bounces.

I've never understood this... and I hate not understanding why things happen!

Question: Email Spam

I use a Hotmail email address and I have my "Junk Mail Filter" set to "Exclusive" so that the only emails that arrive in my inbox are from addresses that are in my address book. But I keep getting this one particular email and I can not block it.
The email comes as "[email protected]". I also have my email setup to show "Full message headers". When I look at the email header it says that it is from my email address. When I try to block it I get an error message that says "It is illegal to block your email address". And therefore it does not block it. I went into my email options and clicked on "Block Senders" and added "[email protected]" to the list but the emails still get through. Also, when I forward any email to friends I can see my address in my favorites list, but when I look in my address book I do not see my address, is that normal?
I've forwarded the emails from "[email protected]" to "[email protected]" but I still keep getting this email. Again, the email in question appears to be coming from the same email address that is recieving it. Can someone help me figure this out please? Thanks in advance!

I actually don't check my spam folder (Gmail) very often, I sometimes forget about it. I looked inside tonight and I cannot believe the amount of websites that know my name and my email address. Where and how are these spam sites obtaining my personal details. Maybe I need monitor and take this folder more seriously?

Answer:Where does spam email come from?

Hi Kol12

It comes from everywhere. You leave your email on a site, the site is compromised, details are stolen. Basically it happens every day. LinkedIn, Target, Home Depot, Yahoo they've all been broken into. Email address are then sold. Yahoo had 500 million accounts compromise and they stole address books from every account. Almost guarantee you have a friend with a Yahoo account.

Next every site you use should have a privacy policy. Most of us don't read but should. These policies state how your personal data will be used, if it can be sold, if it is supplied to business partners etc.

Finally email traverses the Web in clear text. That is why you never put personal information within eg., driver licenses, governement id numbers in mail.

I tell my students check spam / junk every day, nice short list, and use the empty folder function to clear. I say check every day as every once in a while a real email gets sorted there.

Question: email Spam

I am being overwhelmed by email spam that is not being picked up by my email provider. Even though I can block a spam, it still shows up on my deleted box, plus the sender of the spams can vary the spam 100,000 times and still sneak them through. Those items that my provider picks up and blocks are stored at the rate of 250 emails per day in my account and it is a royal pain going through it daily to find what I want and don't want.
This is my business account and my question is what is the best email spam control that I can get that is not overly techincal and allows me to screen and save those email that I want to keep. Changing my email is not an option.

Answer:email Spam

You mention it is a business account, what type of Spam filter do they have? In house or outsourced?

Question: Spam email.

Hi everyone,I have recently started to receive numourous emails into one of my email accounts. These emails mostly refer to Share trading and the like and others would appear to be from Mail delivery services informing me that the mail which I sent to ***** could not be delivered for a variety of reasons such as the mail address does not exist or the mail is suspected spam etc.I remember some time ago there was a Trojan or something that was using mail addresses from Contact lists to send out mails referring to Shares so I suspect my problem is something to do with this.I have checked my Mail Outbox and none of these email are listed as having been sent from my account. I have also run Norton system tools and Microsoft Defender which are both up to date and they are not showing any problems with my PC.Is it possible that my email address has been highjacked and these messages are being sent from someone elses PC unknown to them?Any help on this would be appreaciated as I'm receiving up to 30 messages a day and starting to get very frustrated.Prism

I clicked on the headers and blocked the addresses of the email's that the spam came from. it still comes. the addresses that the spam emails comes from, changes. the IP's come from my ISP or the middle of a sea.

i ran something like your SysInfo utility on another site. they found nothing. is there a freeware that blocks incoming emails to my ISP email. it is sending 70 spam emails a day through my computer.

I keep getting these spam emails from random valid email addresses telling me I have X amount of dollars waiting for me in a online casino. Every time i delete and block the emails address i get another from another email address generated. Its obviously spyware, I have run AVG and spybot and it hasnt fixed the problem. I cant adjust my spam filters cause sometimes theres important emails which get IDd as SPAM by accident. Is there anyway to fix this?

Answer:Email SPAM

These spam emails are designed to get around your spam filter by changing sender addys with each sending. Have you gotten one from yourself yet. I have. Any email address can be add as sender to any email. Thus, there is really nothing you can do about it. No it's probably not spyware, just the way spammers operate. Don't know what email client you are using, but most have some way of making rules to send things to junk folder. Maybe something like 'any email containing casino in the subject'. Still a good idea to look through that folder for anything you need.

My mom has a lot of spam email what is the best way for her to remove all the spam forever ?

Answer:Best way to get rid of Spam email

1) The "Unsubscribe" method: Some emails have an "Unsubscribe" button at the button that makes them stop sending emails. For example, If you've signed up for a newsletter, you could make them stop sending emails by clicking "Unsubscribe"

2) The "Malware cleaning" method: I remember once when my laptop used to be infected with malware. Such malware compsomised my email by sending spam to my contacts as well as to myself. To fix this, you must run an Antivirus solution (Free or paid depending on your preference) which is up-to-date alongside a few second-opinion scanners such as HitmanPro, MalwareBytes Anti-Malware & Emsisoft Emergency Kit.

3) The "New email" method: If none of the two solutions stated above work, the second-to-last option would be to create a new email. As far as my personal preference goes, I prefer using Gmail as opposed to Yahoo, Hotmail ans so on. In my case for my mother, I created two Gmail accounts: One for personal interactions with friends, one for business purposes & one in which she receives new newsletters, horoscopes etc.

4) The "Reformat" method: If none of the above solutions work, your best option would be to do a clean install if Windows. This was the solution that worked in my base a few years ago when I was receiving and sending spam emails.

Hope I was of use!

Answer:Spam email

There are literally Tons of Spam Filters out there free for use.
I prefer G-Locks "Spam Combat".
Even though I'm using the unregistered version, I still get updates when they're available and have use of all the filters they offer in this program.
And I really like the way you can Browse or screen your isp's mail server to see what's in there before receiving any of it. I disabled the "check for new mail" option in Outlook Express and only receive when I delete all the crap off of ther mail server.
Do a Google for G-Lock software if you like.

Question: Email spam

I know this is rather basic. It is something I have left alone for a long time and now think I ought to see if there is anything I can do about it. I have two email programs both of which I have used for quite a long time. One, Outlook, has never had any spam mail. The other, Thunderbird, gets 30 to 40 spam mails each day. Because of this I have been gradually switching over to Outlook, although I prefer the functionality of Thunderbird. Why are they so different? I have not to my knowledge done anything different, although the addresses are different.  Is there anything I can do to cut down the spam received by Thunderbird?  Of course I delete all the spam, it is a daily ritual and I never open or reply to them. Very rarely I am caught out. Quite a lot of the spam appears to be scams or worse. Thunderbird helpfully tags almost all the spam with 'Bulk'.

I've been using Thunderbird for some time now, and like you, I was deleting spam every day.   Finally, because Thunderbird JunkFolder-parks emails Marked As Junk -- at least once for every original sender, I click Mark and then [Mark] as Junk.  It's a never-ending process, I have 150+ rules "marked as Junk."  While the spam still exists on the AT&T email server, again: Thunderbird JunkFolder-parks Marked As Junk.  Received a lot less spam this year -- why?  I dunno.

Question: spam email

I am getting spam that looks like it coming from my email address.

When I use block sender on outlook express it looks like I am blocking all emails from from me to myself ?

Is this really true, am I blocking myself ?

Answer:spam email

1) Someone may be spoofing your email address. Spammers like to do this-use someone else's address to make look like you sent the spam. Nothing you can do about it-just wait it out. They never use a email address for very long.

2) Your system could be infected. Scan with your antivirus, then with malware scanners.
Malwarebytes and Superantispyware are 2 good ones to use.

3) One of your contacts may be infected and not know it.

4) The only way to find out if you block yourself: Open up OE, and send yourself a message. If you have the rule set up to send the message to Deleted or other folder, check to see if the message is there.

Answer:spam through my email

Not enough information. Without any more details the only things I can suggest are:Run your Antivirus and download > install > update > Run "MalwareBytes" (free version). See if they find anything.Search for your email address in Google. If it finds it you will need to change your email address, then never put your email adress on the Internet again (Spammers Engines find it).If the above do not help, contact your server for assistance.Google is NOT the only Search Engine!

Do you use your caps lock key a lot? The authentication for these systems are done at their sites and being that these are complete different systems it has nothing to do with the computer. It is something you are doing.

Answer:yahoo email stopped working today on My Lumia 920

Open a web browser and log into your Yahoo account. Go to security section. See if "ALLOW LESS SECURE APP" option is enabled. If not, enable it.
If it's already enabled. You'll probably need to create an app specific password. While you're at it, enable 2-Factor authentication if you haven't done so already.

I was notified by a couple of friends that some spam email was sent out from my account about 10 days ago.  I followed the instructions I found on this website, changing password etc., running malwarebytes and I thought it was under control.  This morning I received about 7 "email failure notices" stating "Error code 475: Suspicious activity was detected on your account."  I will attach the recquired log below.  Hopefully this can get resolved.  Thank you.

Spam is somehow being sent which displays my email address. I know this because:
a) I have had messages returned as undeliverable to addresses I hadn't sent email to.
b) I received a spam message from myself (!)

My OS is XP. I have service pack 2. I run AVG regularly and ad aware and spybot every once in a while. BTW, I'm computer literate, but I don't speak geek, so don't get too technical with me please :)

I contacted my internet service provider after messages I sent to hotmail addresses returned saying, "Reasons for rejection may be related to contect with spam-like characteristics or IP/Domain reputation problems." It turns out that hotmail has blocked all messages from my internet service providers (the biggest, or one of the biggest in my country). This makes me thing that maybe they are infected somehow.

I have changed my internet password and started scanning for threats. The norton online virus scan worked, (showing I had 2 problems, trojan.wimad and adware.memory meter) but the security scan wouldn't run. Also my ad aware shut down mid scan. I ran an ewido online scan. I found a bunch of adware and one trojan. I googled to find out what the trojan was and found that it could be a false positive and erases it could screw up the computer. I erased the adware and left the trojan. I read more on your site and I hope this wasn't a mistake. BTW, not posting on any other site.

Hi guys...don't know if this is the right place fir this but how can I sgtop all the unsolictored emails from all these payday loan offers I must get at least 20 a day they fill my inbox and even using the unsubscribe link doesn;t work it just comes back as undeliverable with messgae This message was created automatically by mail delivery software.
I am going crazy have tried using my mail blocker but nothing works.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Answer:how to stop spam email

Hi Wendy

Not easy to stop the spam I'm afraid, never click those unsubcribe links as while this one seems to not have worked if the unsubscribe email or you goto a webpage they are just ways to actually tell the spammers that the email they guessed on is actually a live working one so that will get sold on to other spammers.

What mail blocker are you using, plus what email application? what I tend to do is to in Windows Live Mail as I use that one as well as Outlook 2007, is to in WinLiveMail to right click and add sender to blocked senders list, as well as use the titles they send these emails with to a Rule, rules are if you dont know ways to monitor emails and senders and do specific tasks with those emails like forward, delete, auto reply and in the spam case delete.

Mailwasher Free is ok, only monitors one email address, but works fine to monitor your emails, just dont set it to bounce emails back as that is as I mentioned above a way for spammers to know an email address is live and working.

Question: Email virus spam?

I have been receiving spam regarding two companies lately (iKarma & Pangchuan). I'm averaging six per day - after nearly three years of never having any Spam (pretty good filtering, eh). The email arrives from different domains and email addresses each time as a .gif file, making it difficult to block. I ran the scans on the READ ME FIRST malware section and have attached the documents requested. Please check to see if there are any problems. I noticed a suspicious file called kill2me.exe when i ran the panda scan.

Thanks in advance!

I keep receiving junk emails, however these particular ones are coming through as my current email contacts (friends/family).

I dont want to delete any of these contacts of course, but im getting up to 10 every day from the same address.

What could be the solution to this?

Many thanks

Answer:Spam sent as email contacts

What e-mail program are you using (name and version)? What e-mail provider are you using? When you say they are from various friends and family, but all have the "same address" what exactly do you mean? Do you mean the same TCP/IP address? How are they showing up as different people but all with the same address - I don't understand what you mean.

Does anyone know an effective way to block email spam? I've noticed several free programs that promise to block spam BUT, Is it reasonable to trust that 'needed' emails will not be blocked? I have a system at work, which has been identified as sending spam email. I have run Norton Antivirus, MalwareByte, and SuperAntispyware. After removing some viruses, I thought the system was clean. But yesterday I got a notification from AT&T that the system is still sending spam. I noticed on this system an error in the event viewer about too many tcpip connections being opened. I downloaded and ran combofix, but that is as far as I got. I would like to upload a log to see if anyone can assist me in resolving this issue. My problem now is that once I ran combofix, I cannot restore my network connections. I have tried to repair the connection, reinstall the hardware, reset the winsock, but nothing works. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:PC is sending spam email

You have know experienced why we warn users against using ComboFix without guidance. Please see the note in blue at the top of this forum. Our best solution is to post a DDS log in the HJT forum. You may have to move the program to you computer and the log from your computer via flash drive, but the team will help as best they can. They may also ask for the combofix log, but do not post it until asked. Trust me here, they are the experts. Please follow this guide from step (6). Post a HJT log to the HJT forum and a Team member will be along to help you as soon as possible. You may wish to post a link back to this topic to see what was discussed thus far. If you need any help with the guide, please let me know.

Please go to Start>Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs and remove the following:

I have two separate issues that aren't related...I think:

1. This morning, I received an email from (a site I have bought HD music from in the past) thanking my for my reply, assuring me that the investigation is ongoing, and asking me to send more information about how my card was fraudulently used. Uh oh.

After digging around for a while, I was able to piece together that HDTracks's servers have been hacked, and they sent an email to all of their customers asking us to cancel our credit cards and alert HDTracks to any fraudulent use. The problem is, I never received this email. But I apparently replied to it, so HDTracks seems to believe.

I've contacted HDTracks about the issue an am awaiting a response.

2. While digging around, I noticed in my Junk Mail folder (this is an old, unused Hotmail account, BTW) several "undeliverable" notices that looked like this one:

As of the last month I have been getting a plethora of emails that look like returned emails that couldn't be delivered that have an address I set up for my wife long ago and never used for anything.

I simpley just unchecked that address to not download from the server. How do these people get these addresses and what is the best way to stop them outside of making up a rule in Windows Mail.

I am not to concerned with the particular address but don't want to have this problem with my main addresses.

I have never opened one of these and just right click and look at the properties and the details\message sorce.

Question: Suspect spam email

What is it called when you receive an email from a friend but the subject seems vague enough to have not been sent by them personally and instead its someone using their email address to richocet a bad email to yours?

The body of the text strikes me as strange, there is a record of this sort of stuff, right?

I found this cool site... They're giving away ipod nanos.

(A link to is then displayed).

Give me a hand and we'll both get one.

Thanks! I really appreciate it.

(The link again)

Now, that does interest me. Like I said, it doesn't feel like the guy I know to be sending an email like that.

I do not want to post the link in case it's a bad link, or am I allowed to in this controlled environment?

Answer:Suspect spam email

It's called spam!

It could also be that your friends PC is infected and sending out email to people in his address book.

It could also be that you are or were infected and the names of people in your address book are being used to send you fake email. It could be IP spoofing. Stuff like this can even send you email that looks like you sent it.
