Email client for Win7 that is similar to OE

Question: Email client for Win7 that is similar to OE

Having just got a Win7 lappie, I'm after an email client that is similar to OE in a couple of respects.

A single click does Receive (and ideally Send) for all my email accounts (that are designated to be included, as per the way OE works).
All emails from all sources are shown in a combined view.

I've not tried Windows Mail yet, but it has been suggested to me that it doesn't do the above (and looking at some screen shots I can see what is being intimated at).
In addition to the above, I'm assuming that support for POP and SMTP is a given.
If Windows Mail does do what I'm asking, then fine. If not what about alternatives (e.g. t-bird, opera)

Preferred Solution: Email client for Win7 that is similar to OE

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Email client for Win7 that is similar to OE

Fairly sure that Windows Live Mail does a single receive. It is what my wife uses having moved from OE on XP to Windows 7. She has more than one email account.
Combined view from all sources is ok but are grouped by email account. It is to the to not from that combines them. Thunderbird is the main alternative. As far as I am aware Opera is not similar.

I am currently using OE6 and have an intricate set up of folders both for messages and addresses. Is there an email client that I can import to that will keep the integrity of these folders intact?

Ya ya ya...i dont need to hear the bickering about OE6 and what not.

Basically im looking for a email client that has similar security features that OE6 has, like the option for seperate identity's and the identity passwords mostly. Particularilly how the identity passwords can prevent anyone from even opening the client fully so they cant even read any email that have all ready been downloaded.

If makes no sense why all these other email client are wide open so that anyone can click on a email client (firebird, thebat etc) and just waltz in and start reading emails. And to not even have a full lockdown option is pitiful IMHO.

Yes i could have it not save the passwords to download the emails...but the previously downloaded emails in the client can still be read...so whats the point?!?!.
Thats my main feature concern that im looking for in a email client. And since MS is going to kill the DAV protocol for hotmail in OE6 soon. Im looking for a good alternative email client, and hopefully stop using my hotmail account for good...which is the main reason i use OE6. I now i could use regualr outlook...but again the security issue...and the lack of future portability is also a thought..

Thanks for reading...any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated.

EDIT: Also IMAP support is very highly preffered.

I have a new pc, with Windows 7, and am going to try without Outlook which i have used for years, and still do at work.

I am trying to figure out the best alternative, that has similar functionality to Outlook, and would suggest a popular client so that support is available.

I was considering Thunderbird, as I have used Firefox for the last few years.

Does it have Calendar and Contacts similar to Outlook?
Can it be synched with Gmail?

What is the best way to get mails from pst on old pc to new client in new pc???

I have seen this:
1. Install Thunderbird on old pc, and transfer data
2. Then copy the entire Thunderbird folder on your old PC from: < path >\Application Data\Thunderbird folder
3. Install Thunderbird on the new PC and elect to NOT migrate any data
4. Create a new Profile, and elect to use "Default User" as the Profile Name
5. Start Thunderbird, but exit when the Mail Wizard comes up
6. Next, with Thunderbird closed: Navigate to the < path >\Application Data\Thunderbird folder Delete the Thunderbird folder
7. Next: Copy the Thunderbird folder from the Old PC to the < path >\Application Data Folder
8. Start Thunderbird, and your Mail and all data will be in place.

Answer:Alt. email client for win7

I don't use Outlook or Thunderbird, but a quick search turned up an Add-On called Lightning which is a calendar for Thunderbird based on the Sunbird calendar. There is also something called GCALdaemon which can sync Google Calendar with Sunbird/Lightning. I haven't researched the Contacts end of this, but a quick Google should reveal all that's needed to know.... I'll do some quick searches for ya and post anything of interest....
:-D I hope this helps!

Having installed Thunderbird in a Win7 machine, I cannot find a way of copying address books over via a USB stick from another XP machine (Outlook Express).
This seems to be a failing with Thunderbird.
What do you recommend as an free e-mail client for Win7 to which one can easily import OE address books?

Answer:Best Win7 Email Client

They key word is "easily". You can export your address book and import into contacts on Windows Live Mail. But not sure about easily. I've done it recently.

I was a big fan and user of Agent by Forte when I had my old WinXP Pro 32bit rig (which is in the big-dump-in-the-sky).

When I installed Agent on my new Win7 Pro 64bit rig and set it as default, sending eMail would NOT work.

Through week of troubleshooting I found out there IS a problem with using MIME under Win7. So I went back and tried to UNCHECK the MIME box in default settings [Control Panel] [Default Programs] but I could NOT.

Tried uninstalling Agent and reinstalling it, but was no help, AND all my original Agent settings came back. So somewhere in Win7 the settings are kept and not cleared when you uninstall Agent.

I would really like to go back to Agent, so can anyone help find out how to clear ALL saved Agent data on Win7 or how to reset default settings.

Hi,

I'm probably just wasting your time but I have to ask.........

Is there any way to change the default email client on Win7 to a web based email client such as Yahoo or my ISP's email client even? I'd prefer Yahoo since that is the one I need to succeed with an experiment I am trying to achieve results from.

I have searched the web over and found replies that range from installing the Yahoo toolbar to installing Yahoo Messenger to many threads that state it is not possible with a web based email.

If I remember correctly, I once achieved this on my Vista. Yahoo actually displayed in the set windows default programs options. Was I imagining that?

Hello,
Normally I use teamspeak for all my gaming voice chat needs, however with the recent addition of a mac user to my group, teamspeak is no longer a valid option. I was wondering if anyone knows of a good, teamspeak-similar client that is compatible with both Windows and Mac, and if possible, Linux too. Although if you know of one that is compatible with Mac and Windows but not Linux, just tell me anyways.

Server OS Windows Server 2012 Essentials
Client OS: Windows 7 Professional

I recently upgraded from Home Server 2011 to Essentials 2012. This required me to create a Domain which I did, and the other PC's connect with no problem. Using the same procedure to connect my main machine, and it does not see any other computers that are in the domain when I go to network places, not even the server. I have checked that the primary DNS is pointing to 2012 Essentials server. I can connect to the other PCs by manually typing in the other PC names.

Another problem is that I cannot access the shared folders in the Dashboard. I log in as an administrator and have checked permissions. When I try to access these shared folders it gives me the access denied message.

Does anyone know what is going on with these two problems?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Answer:One client not seeing other computers in the Domain. Client OS Win7, Server OS 2012

I didn't use 2012 Essentials yet - only regular 2012 and domain is working without any problem.
Main thing is that client pc must have dns connected to server - on server you can set forwarding for external internet access.
If you have problems with domain you could try rejoin to domain on client PC - you'll verify then that everything is configured properly - I can recommend tool called Profile Wizard http://www.forensit.com/Profwiz/ It's great for rejoining to domain or when you want to switch to other domain without lose your profile.
Maybe Dasboard require for local administrator privileges to work properly ?

I found this program when was in my Add/Remove Programs - WebIQ Client Software. It doesn't look like something I downloaded on purpose. Is this any kind of spyware or what? I am afraid to delete it in case it's something I am supposed to have.
Thanks!

Answer:WebIQ Client Software - Is this spyware or something similar?

Hi, That is OK,

Here is what it probably is:

http://www.usabilitysciences.com/research/index.html

Go to Program Files on C: drive in Windows Explorer, select Web IQ and on the right, right click the last file in the list, select Properties, if it's by Usability Services it's fine.

You may have answered a survey at some point. i would say it can be uninstalled if you like, you can get it back if you need it.

Really hope I can get some help!

We are currently using Outlook for mail and each computer has about 5/6 Email accounts added to it as POP as we run several companies.

We are looking for an online alternative so that people can check their mail from home etc.

I have checked several different online systems such as outlook.com and Gmail but they all seem to want me to add MX entries and prove ownership!

I just want something that allows me to add accounts exactly like Microsoft Outlook. So i can just add accounts add the mail settings and then be able to send and receive mail from the account.

All of our mail systems are setup in cPanel with out host, so i do litterally want it to work like Microsoft Outlook works.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

I use thunderbird to connect to my ARMY AKO email account. I noticed the majority of the time, the client has difficulty completing sending email. (Though some gets through without timing out.) IF I go directly to the website and use their email I have no problems at all. What could be causing this? I'd rather use my client email program than to have to go the email site. Bear in mind this only happens sometimes, more frequently than I'd like, and I am also overseas.

Two Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit computers on the same network, the desktop has a printer shared that the laptop would like to access.

The oddness began after I managed to get the laptop to access the desktop via Start > Run > \\desktop, successfully connected up the printer via filesharing and tested it, but every time I restart the laptop it decides that it can't find the desktop any more.

However, if I do Start > Run \\192.168.0.6 (the IP address of the desktop) from the laptop, it connects successfully every time. I've set things up like that for now, but I can't say I've ever seen an issue like this before.

If I do a name lookup on either machine, it resolves the desktop's IP address correctly, regardless of restarting the laptop. If I do \\192.168.0.6, let that open a connection successfully, then do \\desktop, it works. If I just reboot and do \\desktop, it doesn't.

Ideally I would like it to work via computer names so that the desktop doesn't require a static IP.

Answer:Win7 <-> Win7 file sharing issue after client reboot

These days we use something called User permissions and security settings to establish safe reliable network connections.

You can just right click the folders you want to share and choose the security and permissions settings, they tend to stay put after that. Or you can click on the "share" tabs and go from there. If you are using all Windows 7 machines in this network then setting up a Home group is the way to go.

OK, so I have been looking through various forums for the past few days trying to figure this out on my own but I still have some persistent little bug somewhere on my system. I am running Win7 x64. I have IE9 and FF7, but I hardly ever use IE except for some compatibility issues once in a great while.

I recently ran a Trojan virus which I was told was a version of the Data Recovery type. But since I'm running Win7, it apparently acts a little differently. Unfortunately, one of the first things that I did when the virus struck was to start deleting a bunch of files, so of course the TEMP files were some of the first to go.

Initially, I went to restore point 1, but that didn't work out so well. I ended up restoring back to a point over 2 weeks ago. Upon restarting, I went looking for information on what had happened to my machine. Lo, and behold, after about 10 mines, I started getting Google redirects in FF. I could not find anything unusual in my plugins or extensions, so I went to the Task Manager to see what 'new' processes could be messing me up. I noticed 'iexplore.exe' as one of the entries. I immediately killed the process, though only to see it re-spawn in several minutes. I ended up renaming iexplore.exe to something else to help prevent this from happening.

Meanwhile, another click on a link in FF and FF shuts down with some sort of redirect error.

Since then, I have ran TDSSKiller with no results. I have run full system scans... Read more

Hello, I always use web-based email via the browser at home. I do not use an email client(well in the office we have Outlook). I'd like to use Thunderbird at home with a Gmail account that can be used by the kids. Now I am using Avira IS 2012 and would like to make it scan emails through it's mailguard component. I have seen Thunderbird work with Avast IS on my brother's pc but I see that for it to scan all emails the SSL/TSL should be deactivated. I was asking the tech guys at the office about email clients, digital certificates etc and they only remarked "google it"...wow... So I came here....Now my questiosn are: a. Is it safe to disable SSL/TSL in an email client? In the office we have that(with Norton Enterprise) and I see an indicator at the bottom of the email message that it was scanned by Norton. b. Can there be an application that can allow me to have SSL/TSL at the same time have Avira scan my emails...? I searched google and found out that in Avira it also has to be disabled to let it scan all emails. c. SSL/TSL is encryption right..? Does not using encryption in email okay..? I mean at home. In the office it's important but at home...opinions please..d. What ports for POP3 IMAP SMTP should I allow Thunderbird to use In the firewall( I use Comodo). I would highly recommend that you keep TLS/SSL enabled this makes sure that your password and user credentials are not sent in the clear.

if the AV needs to have this disabled then its not a good AV..

The ports are on the setup page for Gmail: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Using_Gmail_with_Thunderbird_and_Mozilla_Suite

Digital Certs are expensive to create and use, and only vital for businesses and not home users.

I use T-Bird (v 31.7.0) On 2 occasions now, I have sent emails, with Attachments, to a friend in the UK, who is running HOTMAIL.On each occasion the Attachment is OK, but the message I sent with ti increases it?s Font size, line by line, until it is unreadable. Two 3 or 4 characters per line??and sections of the email are repeated. 4 or 5 lines, then back to the top. They are blaming me for a Virus?..but I am thinking the problem is their end, with a stuck key, or similar. Any ideas ?

Answer:thunderbird email change font size in hotmail email client

I don't know what is causing this but pretty sure "what it isn't".1. It is not the usual behaviour of a virus.2. It is not a stuck key their end. Keys don't come into the equation for received emails.Try sending an attachment to yourself and some other contact who will co-operate. That way you should be able to narrow down which end is responisible for the problem.Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

My email client, desktop program PostBox (for Win) has been slowed since I installed BD TS2016 (I'm quite sure this is the reason as it was very fast before, and slowed immediately after...)

I also run WebRoot AV (which does not scan email as per their documentation) and HitmanAlertPro (which could also be affecting my email client, but I uninstalled it to test this somewhat small chance given its just an anti-exploit, and it doesn't seem to have affected it, the client is still slow).

1. I would LIKE BD to scan my email as of course having AV w/o scanning email could in many ways be pointless given email can be a deadly vector for heavy malware.

2. But I don't want my client to be slow. It's not horrible, and I suppose I could tolerate it (basically deleting messages, loading new messages, and the program responsiveness overall, is a bit sluggish compared with its normal instantaneous response)

3. Is there a way to configure email scanning differently? Or should the program NOT be slowing my client noticeably in general, and is this behavior indicative of something being wrong?

I'm sure BD users will be able to comment on whether it slows their email or not given they use a desktop client like Outlook, Postbox, Thunderbird, etc.

Thanks!

This one has me really stumped!

I've been building and repairing PC's and servers for over 25 years now have never come across anything quite like this.  The first ransomware I ran into took a couple hours to figure out...but I've been searching everywhere and trying everything without success.

Seems a retired friend of the family got sucked into one of those "Hello, I'm from Microsoft and we've detected a virus on your computer..."  hook, line and sinker. After they took his financials to the cleaners, he finally called me to clean up his PC.  It had been invaded pretty well, with all kinds of backdoors, etc., but I was pretty sure I found it all, ran several scans in Safe Mode with several different tools (RogueKiller, Malwarebytes, Kapersky TDSSkiller).

Several weeks went by without issue (though the jerks kept calling and threatening him).  Then he calls and says he cannot get the keyboard or mouse to respond.  I figured it was probably hardware weirdness and would be a relative snap to fix.  Nope!

This is a 3-year-old Dell with Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium that gets very light use.

Keyboard works in Bios only (which I've cleared already).  Neither the KB nor mouse work in Safe Mode for more than a few seconds if at all.  Same in normal Windows.  I might get as much as 10 seconds in before I see the driver installer come up in the system tray and fail to install the keyboard and mouse dr... Hi

Sadly nothing is easy I'm afraid when using Yahoo webmail unless you have the paid account, Live Mail and Gmail are the better free email accounts, but try the below.....

You can use your Yahoo email address with the Windows Live Email Client, or try Thunderbird as its free too.

BUT note that to setup POP3 account with an email client application you may need a Yahoo Plus account which is a paid for account over the free email account. But you can try Ypops! to set the free email up with POP3 access. Thunderbird + Ypops instructions HERE

Here is the problem: I have my email client (PocoMail) set as my default email client. It shows up as default client in the "Default Program section" in IE7.
When I click on a email link, whether it's in another program or on a website, my email client doesn't open the compose window with the address entered BUT IE7 starts and opens about 80 windows which need to be killed with Task Manager. By the way, this has nothing to do with PocoMail because it also happens when Thunderbird is set as default.

I am stumped. Any ideas?

After hearing that Hotmail will be gone for good (replaced by outlook), I was wondering if there is any other services like Hotmail in terms of layouts, security and simplicity?

After getting used to using Hotmail for years, I just hate the looks on the outlook/Gmail and I can't really grasp their features. I've also tried looking for other services though I don't see any which fits into my needs.

Thank you, help would be appreciated it.

Having bought a new HP Windows 10 laptop, I find I cannot access my Windows Live Mail that I was using on my previous Lenovo Windows 7 laptop. The email app on this laptop is RUBBISH. I have lost loads of emails when I try to create a folder and save emails to those folders. Seriously need a good email app that I can use similar to my Live Mail on Windows 7. Any suggestions please.

Hi,I have a similar problem with my x200Tablet, 4GB, Win7Ent-x64, and the solution might not be that simple... My Intel 5300 Wireless will not work, and I have now tried a lotProblem:- After a fresh installation everything worked well, also the WLAN-card, but a later update with SystemUpdate4, complete, the Intel WLAN could not connect- Since this was in the middle of sw-installation (like Office2010x32), with LAN,  I cannot precisely pinpoint where/what made it fail - In (windows) ManageWirelessNetwork there is nothing, A "add" just give "An unexpected error occurred"- In Lenovo Access Connections - Manage Wireless Radio (also Fn+F5)-  it shows WLAN with Status "Off", any use of button for "On"; Nothing happens (it stays "Off") (any use of other buttons responds at once)- In Lenovo Access Connection program, it shows WIFI, but nothing is discovered, A test of a profile with WLAN ends with "Connection Failed" , in Test or "Help fix..", it reports error code 016, or eroor code 65537, "Association failed - wireless radio not powerd on"- In IntelProSet Dignostics Tool fails at HW Test, with "The wireless adapter is disabled or uninstalled. Se Windows Help"  , but within Lenovo HW test, card and PCI ok, but Network Link Layer fails Yes, I have:- Checked Win System Logs, HW logs, just some "Wlan Autoconfig stopped", no serious errors, I think?- Checked DevMgr, (enabled) it`s ok- Checked for Viruses, worms+ - Radio ... Answer:Similar Problem with Intel Wireless 5300, connection problems / disabled card , in Win7-x54

you could try uninstalling the driver and then going on intel's site and letting intel scan your system. it should come up with a driver for you and install it for you.

My Email client, MSN Premium (not Hotmail) will not open to write an email when clicking on any website's button labeled "send us an email". Instead this action causes several instances (up to 5) of IE6 to invoke and then the Op Sys (WinME) hangs until I use Ctrl-Alt-Del to end the erroneously opened IE tasks. I thought maybe it was that MSN mail was not my default email client so I used the proceedure to make MSN mail my default instead of OE6 but each time I returned to the options to see if it had changed it still says my default client is OE. Interestingly, if I envoke the MSN explorer and go to my MSN email inbox I can send and receive my email perfectly. This machine has been up and running since last October. I do not know if the problem has always existed or started more recently since I don't often click on "send us email" buttons.
I have three other machines similarly set up and none of them exhibit this problem.
WinMe, MSN Premium, and MSN messenger 6 all are up to date and current.
McAfee AV is on and up to date.
CounterSpy and Spybot are up to date and actively running.
Firefox 1.0.2 is my default browser

Answer:Solved: Clicking "send us an email" hangs system and will not open my email client.

Specifically if using the portable form of Opera Mail, the mail client available from portableapps.com.

I tried looking at many articles from internet searches but found nothing telling where to find the folder holding the email messages for the email client.  My copy of portable Opera Mail is on a usb flash drive.  I have tried looking through the folders for the application but still do not know how to recognize any email messages.

Answer:Where on desktop is email for email client?

portableapps.com.

You do understand that downloading apps like this from most 3rd party sites poses all sorts of security risks, Remember this, That software while it was made by WhoEver has now been modified by somebody, How was it modified, Who did it, What else did they put in it? I may be wrong here however I also think may be against most software developers TOS to use modified software like this.

FYI only.
While Opera is free some sites and some people have used " the making of a app portable" on paid for software to bypass  having to pay for the software. I used to do just that a long time ago. I now know and understand why it is bad.

Eg.
Making XXXXbytes premium into a portable application. While creating the portable you use a genuine key or "other" methods to activate Then compile it as portable with the activation in place, Now anybody with XXXXbytes portable has a free premium copy instead. That's software piracy. And Theft.

I am trying to setup a client computer running Win7 to SBS2003. I hve setup the name on the server, I am using a user with admin rights, I have the servers ip as the primary DNS on the router, I have put that IP of the server on the primary DNS on the client computer. I run the connectcomputer and the screen comes up that allows me to put in the name and password and once I hit ok I get an error saying that the list of computers and users cannot be found. I can ping the server, I can map the network drive to it, I can remotely log in to it from the client computer as well. I have unchecked the ipv6 adapter and I have run all these steps with the firewall disabled or enabled. I have tried changing the domain under the computer properties and it asks for the login information and I get an error stating: An attempt to resolve the DNS name of a domain controller in the domain being joined has failed. I have XP clients that I setup already that connected with no problems. Ive tried about every suggestion that has been posted? Does anyone have any other ones? I have also downloaded the hotfix and updated the server.

Thanks,
Zach

Answer:Cannot connect Win7 Client to SBS2003

This requires that you change the lanman server parimeters in order to get Windows 7 working with older servers. Do these adjustments on the Windows 7 machines that need to connect to the server.

I'm not sure if this has to do with your exact problem but these adjustments are usually required to get Windows 7 working with older servers.

Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Local Security Policy

Local Policies - Security Options

Network security: LAN Manager authentication level
Set to Send LM & NTLM responses only

Set the Minimum session security for NTLM SSP
Disable Require 128-bit encryption

The screen shots below should be helpful.

Reboot all machines after making the adjustment.

All modern browsers like Chrome, Firefox, Opera, Internet Explorer has the ability to store megabytes of private data onto your computer's hard disk, also known as client-side data storage. This means when you go to a website, it can use your computer's hard drive as a client-side storage to store any data type, including sensitive private data like credit card information, health records, current location, your login data, IP, website you have visited from, how many times you've visited a website and when, collect any data and track your activity across the web.

Answer:How to check your client-side on win7?

Ok, so what exactly are you asking for?

We (me and a fellow worker) have just started using remote desktop to work. I have been using NetSupport Manager for almost 10 years but just switched to Windows 10 on virtual PC at work and discovered that remote desktop performance with UDP is leaving NetSupport Manager in the dust, performance wise.

I have opened the UDP port for my PC and use in UDP mode since Friday. I just cloned the virtual PC for my fellow worker and adjusted his user. I connect to this PC and UDP is enabled. But he is on Windows 7 x64 and he is not able to obtain the UDP enabled.

Yes, he installed the updates for RDP 8.0 and it shows it.
But UDP is still not working.
I tried to update to RDP 8.1 but it says this:
Any idea ? I suggested to upgrade to Windows 10 but I would rather find a solution for Windows 7 since it is supposed to work.

Running Win 7 .  Opened spam email by mistake and email account hacked. Acct locked by server after 1600 email sent. Account has been recovered.  I ran full scan with Microsoft Essentials and Malwarbytes and both clean.  Then I did a full scan with Kapersky and it showed 1 malware  of Trojan.JS.Agent.cfl located on my external harddrive in my backup files location and possibly 2 other locations on the report.  I have pdf ofKapersky report if want to see.
I also ran AVG 2015 and it was clean.

Not sure if I should just delete the backup files from my external hard drive.
What other scans can I do to make sure everything is OK?? - I have not noticed anything unusual with computer yet but want to ease my mind.

So, I am wondering what email client you all use and maybe the top 2 or 3 reason you use it.

Thanks!

i dont use one, have used Thunderbird and Outlook and a few others over the years but in the end i always have my browser open and always can open a tab with gmail quicker than i can use a client of any kind, have no need for client features, send, receive, forward and compose, is all i need

Question: email client

Hello

To change my email client do I click on control panel>default programs>associate a file type>mail to?

My current one is WLM but I don't know what happens when I click "Change program"!

Will I have a choice like Windows Outlook.com?

**The reason I am asking is because if I click on 'set your default programs' as I usually do and highlight a program to set as default, no other mail is there - just WLM. I have Gmail, 2 Live accounts, Comcast account, and WLM all in my WLM desk account. I was hoping to make the Outlook.com application the email client but maybe it cannot be done.
I have not synchronized and do not know if it is necessary to get Outlook.com to appear on the default program page.
Any help appreciated.
Thank you
Peter

I am not sure if this is the right place for this question or not but I have a new laptop with Windows 8 and there are those panes and one was for Mail. I selected it and it asked me to enter my username and password. I wasn't sure if it would work but I put in my hotmail information and it worked. Unfortunately, there doesn't appear to be a way to back of out that and there are other people that use this laptop using the same login information. When you select the Mail pane, it automatically goes to my email inbox. Is there a way to reset it so there is no personal info again? I don't really know what I am doing but I do know I don't want a bunch of folks able to read my personal email. I have looked everywhere I know to look.

I would really appreciate any help you can provide.

I was just curious what the email client of choice is with Win7 since it does not come with one. I am leaning toward Thunderbird. I have to have the ability to have two email addresses. I have been using AOL for years and have finally got fed up as they have been losing 30% of my email over the last month and simply will not admit it is their fault. I have set up my own domain with oneandone who also provide me with 3 POP3 mailboxes and an outgoing SMTP server. So, I have some nice new addresses and some mailboxes which leaves two decisions: which ISP to use to get on line and which Mail Client to use to send and receive email.I have plenty of time to decide on which ISP to use as I am still using AOL to log on. However, the question of which Mail Client to use to access my POP3 Mailboxes is urgent. I have played about a bit with Outlook Express over the years so using that would be the easiest. However, I am worried that most viruses, worms etc seem to be written to work with OE so would I be best to avoid it?I am wondering about Outlook, but is it not also vulnerable to viruses etc? Is it not also fairly big and clunky given that I only want email, not any sort of time management. (I am retired) On the other hand, I shall be using several email addresses to keep my mail in order so perhaps Outlook would be a good choice?I am wondering to about Eudora and Pegasus. As I know nothing about these, any comments would be most helpful. With thanks in advance.

Answer:Which is the best Email Client?

This is a good choice if you want to add a bit of panache, or perhaps themes to your emails as I find most emails boring.Depending on your sense of humour you can certainly liven someones day up, and as far as bugs, worms, etc I am not aware of any but of course you have to be using decent Antivirus, Firewalls etc for protection anyway.

I currently us Outlook Express for my email client. I often times get email with lots of nice images, links and almost looks like a Web site but it's an email. I was told that I would need to use something other than Outlook Express to do this type of email.

2 questions:

1. Any suggestions of email clients that any of you use to do this type of emailing would be appreciated.

2. Can I use more than one email client (of course only one would be set as the default client), such as Outlook Express and some other client - then switch between the two?

Thanks,

I have a few email addresses from different companies that I have had for many years. I had no problem setting them up in Outlook Express, so whatever email address the person had that I gave them (anyone of three different ones), Outlook Express would open all of them.

Now I intend to buy a computer with Windows 7 and they do not use Outlook Express. I would like to keep these different email addresses and have the emails all open in the email client I choose to use.

I assume that Outlook would do this, but I really can afford it right now but will get it if I have to.

Any email program that will pull all these different email address in and open them?

Someone mentioned Windows Live 2011 - I haven't looked into this one, anyone familiar with it?

Hi,

I have just upgraded my PC to Windows 7 and note that there is no email client. I have installed Windows Live Mail and I hate this programme with a vengenance. My wife refuses to use the PC until I get rid of WLM.

We have a laptop which still has Vista and Windows Mail which we are used to and is excellent. We really do not want two different email programmes so is there a way to install the Vista Windows Mail on my Win 7 PC? We can transfer the necessary files from the laptop if need be.

Step by step instructions would be appreciated.

(sorry if this is a repost, did a bit of searching beforehand though)

I've used Opera's built in email for a long time now, mostly because I enjoy the convenience of clicking the left sidebar and opening my email so easily, but I was wondering what everyone else uses? Perhaps try to coax me into a new client?

Answer:What email client do you use?

Most that use IMAP (including myself) are not very happy with Opera's mail client.

They've rewritten the IMAP backend from scratch. It is available in 9.0TP1 and will be available in 9.0 Final when it comes out.

The problem is, the interface is a pop3 interface. Almost all the features are pop3 features. There are a million features missing for IMAP. Opera's mail client destroys the idea of IMAP. I've been on them to fix things. We'll see.

Also, the fact that the folder list is in a panel and the message list is in a separate window makes it a pain for drag n drop. Lots of people have panel placement set to float, which make the mail client a pain to use.

The whole filters deal just doesn't do it for imap. Opera's mail client doesn't even keep things in sync with the server. Also, it can easily wipe out all messages in your imap folder.

Now for pop3, Opera's mail client works fine and is pretty cool.

Also, if you are one to compose mail in HTML format, you can't in Opera. You can't even forward HTML that someone sent to you. Also, Opera itself doesn't support copying and pasting of rich text so if you copy pics, links and text from a web page and paste it, all you get is text.

Also, new in Opera mail, like some other clients, now splits up download messages into separate folders for each day and each message is now stored in a separate file. This is supposed to improve parsing files by doing things separately... Read more

Question: Email client

Thinking about getting away from using webmail, and getting a webmail client. I use W7 Ult. I am not looking to pay for anything; I understand MS Outlook has a free vers. So, I go to the outlook page, but it's asking me to sign up. That kinda threw me. Sign up - for what? Create an acct? That type of thing worries me, even if it is MS.

Thoughts? Thanks.

Answer:Email client

Ms Outlook has no free versions. Outlook.com (former Hotmail.com and Live.com) is a webmail service by Microsoft. It has nothing to do with Microsoft Outlook email client and personal information manager, part of the Microsoft Office suite. If you want to use Outlook.com webmail, you have to sign up for an Outlook.com account.

You can use Microsoft Office Outlook client to read and send Outlook.com mail but they really have nothing else to do with each other.

Some free email clients:Windows Live Mail (Windows Essentials: Other Programs - Microsoft Windows)
Mozilla Thunderbird (Mozilla Thunderbird)

Question: email client

I have Windows 10 pro and have been using Windows Mail; unfortunately it is erratic syncing and I just lost a valuable folder. It seems ok at times and I like its simplicity because I am at an average tech level.
I have had other issues with it so have discontinued use.
Awkward as it may sound, I use gmail because of my phone but it too has difficult folders.
I have a MS account because I run Windows and it too has fickle folders.
So I use the folders in my ISP Comcast account as it is dependable as far as folders go.
All of my contacts and places like forums and doctors tetc have my MS account as the default.
I have read about email clients and tried a few like Thunderbird, Claws, and another that escapes me.
I need an email client that is fairly easy to use and can accomodate three accounts.
Are you aware of any? I don't have a VM so don't want to try then remove too many.

Answer:email client

OK, this is just my $0.02 worth. If you liked the old M/S Outlook Express you may want to look at OE Classic from here: http://https://www.oeclassic.com/ A member here suggested it to me and I switched. Works great with my gmail without having to go to gmail.

I run an SSL site that has function perfectly for over 10 years. Now that clients are using Windows 7 SOME of them cannot log in because their LOCAL domain name is part of the USERNAME ... i.e. LOCALDOMAN\USERNAME ... they cannot change it ... they cannot use the User another account setting after using it 1 time.

I have had them remove the autocomplete option under tools, content, ssl, username/password.

i have had them clear the SSL state.

It seems to only happen with Windows 7 pro when they have their own domain set up at their office.

Thanks!

Steve

Answer:Client can't login to my SSL site when using win7 when domain member

Wouldn't they need to be a part of your domain for this to work?

I have Office 2003 Basic Edition installed on Windows 7 Home Premium. From within Outlook I have set Outlook to be my default email program, yet clicking on any email link through Internet Explorer or any other program brings up Windows Live Mail (which I do not wish to use). From within Word, if I opt to send a document by using 'File-Send To-Mail Recipient', then it does use Outlook (this is the only instance I have discovered of it obeying my command). But if I use 'File-Send To-Mail Recipient (as Attachment)', which I use far more often, then, again, it defaults to Windows Live Mail.

If I access the Default Programs menu in Win7, it does not offer Outlook 2003 as a choice to make my default email program, even though the program is fully installed and is running in all other respects without any glitches.

If, from within Default Programs, I highlight Windows Live Mail and try to 'Choose defaults for this program', it does not allow me to deselect associations for the program, so I cannot deactivate Windows Live Mail either.

Has anyone found a way around this problem, or has Microsoft decided to force its customers into using Windows Live Mail as a default email client, thereby making it impossible to work with another email program that functions with full default email functionality? I have found a few threads about the problem but no answers to date.

There must be someone out there who has worked out a solution. Has anyone tried uninstalling Windows Live Ma... Read more

Answer:how do you set Outlook 2003 as Win7 default mail client

Hi ralphmurmegen! Welcome to SevenForums.

Just to double check that you have followed the following procedure:

Click Start.
Type "default programs" in the Start Search box.
Click Default Programs under Programs in the search results.
Now click Set your default programs.
Highlight Microsoft Office Outlook or Microsoft Outlook on the left.
Click Set this program as default.
Click OK.
Are you saying that "Outlook" does not appear under the "Program" list on the left?

I want to completely uninstall Microsoft Application Virtualization Client to gain more disk space on my C: drive. I have already moved my MSO Cache to a different partition. My O/S is Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium. To my knowledge I have never used this App-V software. All of the information I have found so far is too technical for me to understand (such as the information found on this web page: (https://blogs.technet.com/b/appv/arc...edirected=true) I am not a newbie and I can follow specific directions IF they are specifically not using terms that I do not understand. One step there says to reboot the client .. yea, right. I don't know how to do that. Another web page says to use the Control Panel for uninstallation. There is no listing of Microsoft Application Virtualization Client or Application Virtualization Client to be found in the Programs and Features portion of my Control Panel. My Revo Uninstaller Pro likewise does not list Microsoft Application Virtualization Client or Application Virtualization Client. Thanks much.

ok, so my father has this old pop3 email from his job that he still uses.

he currently uses outlook express 6.0, which in my opinion has become obsolete and out dated.

so i'm looking for the most convenient and straight forward email client out there,
preferably free, and open-source.

so, what is in your experience, the most easy to use (not for tech savvy people) email client???

options : mozilla thunderbird, opera mail, the bat! .....
many thanks.

Answer:best email client programes

If it was me I would set him up with a modern Gmail account and have it pull in his POP3 account. But but but, if you must have a standalone app, Thunderbird is very nice. Also, if he is running Vista, Windows Mail isn't half bad for a simple Email app.

I am trying to delete a note using Thunderbird 1.0 or Outlook Express 6 from my gmail account and have not had success. I can send and receive in both clients and can delete the notes in the local client but can't get the deleted email to syn with the gmail server. The note stays in the InBox on the gmail server. Is this working as designed or am i missing something?

Hey all.

I've used Thunderbird in the past for my home computer, and I use Microsoft Outlook at work.

I want to manage 3-4x e-mail addresses at home, but here's the thing... I'd prefer it NOT download and store all my e-mails locally. I just installed two new hard drives and was looking in AppData for things to move to the updated computer, and noticed that Thunderbird had about 8gb of files hanging around.

I know that you can delete e-mails in Thunderbird and 'compact' it and it will delete them then, but I don't tend to delete e-mails, and I have thousands.

Is there a client that just organizes things for you but otherwise doesn't take up space on your desktop? I know this would have to be IMAP instead of POP3, but Thunderbird supports IMAP and still does this.

It's possible I just have the settings wrong, however. I've heard good things about EM Client & Inky, but I don't know enough about it to judge.

I've made some changes to my computer lately including reinstalling windows xp and now I cannot send email. I cannot send using Outlook Express, Thunderbird, or Calypso. I can receive ok.

One exception is that I can send emails using my cable connection using smtp.cox-internet.com. All my other accounts use mail.mydomain.com.

Thanks,
Steve M.

Is there a free email client that will receive and send via imap that will also allow me to import an old pst file from Outlook 2003?

Answer:email client and pst files

Mozilla Thunderbird may work for you if you still have Outlook installed on the computer. According to a MozillaZine article, Thunderbird imports the PST file contents through calls to Outlook. The article also explains why you may find it difficult to find any program that can directly import a PST file's contents without using an installed copy of Outlook.

I finally got a new laptop and have used the same disk for OUTLOOK 2000 as in my old computer, but I can't customize (ie color) and also my calendar imported completely messed up. In my old computer (and the same for the new one) I always had mega problems with 'Contacts'. Whenever I click on one, the display name would change so I would change in back, and then if I went to my email list, it would change again so I had to correct it again. Always back and forth. Also, I always have it on 'Detailed Address Cards" but often, for no reason at all some of them would not show the address until I clicked them open. Needless to say, I am getting fed up.

I did check out Thunderbird, but you cannot access a Hotmail or Yahoo account on it and I understand it does not have a calendar or detailed contacts.

So now dear gurus, would you suggest that I upgrade to the latest Outlook, or do you have any suggestions on something else that might be perfect ???!!!!

Answer:ICS:-client email etc. OK but no web pages

I am the host on a home network and my daughter is the client. We both have XP and I connect to the internet using a USB ADSL modem. The network seems to work in all respects except that web pages are unavailable on the client computer. She receives Windows update installation notifications, can send and receive e-mail,and use Windows Messenger, so it seems as if the ICS is working but whenever she tries to open Internet Explorer she gets the "page unavailable" screen. She has tried to access several different sites (including Microsoft) so it is not just a problem with the site she is trying to access.Any suggestions please as I can't think of what to try next. Thanks

Can anyone recommend a good (Windows 10) email client that I can use to access my gmail including contacts ?

I dont like using the browser, I have Outlook configured, but that only syncs the email ... contacts & calendar do not sync.

I'd really like an Outlook-like client that allows me to manage & sync email, contacts & (nice but not critical) calendar

Can anyone please recommend a good email client for me?It must have multiple pop3 accounts facilities (i.e. to pick up my email from different accounts and keep them separate); good filtering is a bonus; good support for Spam Plugins too.If possible, I would like a shareware client (i.e. try before I buy) or freeware would be even better. But I am not adverse to paying for the right machine.I have Outlook 2000 but want to move away from it as I am about to give away my Office 2000 to a friend who needs it more than I do - I am a happy convert to OpenOffice.org.

Outlook Express is more than good enough - what's more it's free.

Hello, I'm a newbie here but from browsing the site, this looks like a good place to find help with my problem.

A few days ago, I got whacked by "Antivirus 2010". Luckily I was able to get rid of it w/Malwarebytes and there does not seem to be a trace of it left on my system.

Unfortunately, after the attack I've run into a problem where images no longer appear in my email. This is not just an Outlook 03 problem. I've tried Thunderbird and Incredimail as well. All have the same issue. Just shows the red X for any images.

I'm running Vista Home Premium SP2 on a Dell Inspiron E1505 laptop. and have tried all of the following w/out any luck:
Repairing Outlook

Uninstalling and reinstalling Outlook & Thunderbird

Removing the temp files for Outlook from the folder listed in the reg key (HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\Security)

Temporarily disabled Norton Internet Security

Checked all settings in all email clients related to security & images

Checked setting on my email host. My domain is set up thru Simplehost & the other two email addresses on the domain are not having any problems.

Uninstalled Malwarebytes after removing "Antivirus 2010"

I'm really at a loss here. It seems something got switched off in a security setting somewhere but I just can't seem to find it. I appreciate any help you can provide. If there's other information that will be helpful, let me know.

Hi,
I have WinXP Home SP2 and Pegasus mail shows up in IE as the default mail program, and I don't want any email program there. The drop down menu in IE doesn't let me select "none". I'm not sure if the config in Pegasus would allow me to change this or not, but still, the drop down doesn't allow a blank. It has Outlook and something like possibly...MS Web Mail in there too.
Is there a way to NOT have any default email client listed in IE?
Thanks for your time,
patmac

I have used a number of clients over the years from Outlook Express, Thunderbird, Windows Live Mail to Outlook 2013.

I am wondering what you guys use as your main client.

Answer:Which email desktop client do you use and why?

I just use my browser to read my email, GMAIL.
I do like Thumderbird and I really should test it out in Win10TP.
I've also used Eudora in the past and it was very good. IMO.

I work for an IT consulting company and I am at a client site at all times. I use Outlook 2007 for my client provided email address. Is there another email client that would allow me to use OWA to setup "my" companies email address? Basically I get tired of checking OWA all the time. Thanks in advance!
