Windows preventing paid AVG updates download

Question: Windows preventing paid AVG updates download

I have a paid version of AVG Internet Security 2012 which commenced in August 2012. I've had paid versions in the previous two years and until the last two months have had no problems.
In the past few days when I switch on my PC (Windows XP with Mozilla Firefox browser, wired connection with BT) the automatic AVG update will not proceed, nor will a manual attempt.
Within a few minutes of switching on the following Windows warning box appears on the screen:
'The software you are installing for this hardware - Non-Plug and Plug Drivers - has not passed the Windows Logo testing to verify its compatibility with Windows XP. Continuation of installation of this software may impair or destabilise the correct operation of of your system either immediately or in the future.'
Two options are then given: Continue anyway or Stop installation.
The updates waiting to be downloaded are all version 2238 of the the following: Alert Manager; Anti Rootkit Driver; Anti Spam Component; Scanning Engine; Set Up Component; Kernel components; E-mail Scanner; Firewall Component; User Interface Component; Identity Protection; Language Files (English); Online Shield (Settings); Resident Shield Scanner; Link Scanner HTTP Redirector; Systems Tools Component; TDI Component; Pc Analyzer; Update Component.
If I click on 'Continue anyway' the system attempts to download the updates again but aborts very quickly and the same warning notice appears. If I do nothing the warning notice remains but my AVG page says, 'You are not protected'. I therefore click on 'Stop installation' and within a minute or so my AVG page tells me I am now fully protected. Annoyingly, this procedure repeats itself every hour.
About two months ago I had identical problems. I therefore used the AVG uninstall tool and then re-installed my paid AVG. This brought up a new AVG page design but the system then behaved properly until the past few days in that it downloaded the updates (which of course are normally fairly minimal) on a daily basis.
Can anyone suggest why the system suddenly misbehaved two months ago after over two years of normal operation, behaved properly again for a few weeks after re-installation but is now causing the same problem as before? In other words why does a whole list of items appear for downloading which Windows won't allow when previously (for well over two years) the updates were routine and quickly downloaded without any problems?
I've not installed any other software or hardware in recent months and I'm a light user of my PC merely content to surf the net. I have no other anti virus or firewall protection installed.
I'd be grateful for any suggestion as how this can be overcome. As will be gathered from my non-technical wording I'm not very computer literate. Many thanks.

Preferred Solution: Windows preventing paid AVG updates download

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I'd recommend putting this to AVG in the form of an email. Even copy and paste what you posted here.

I bought this software 9/1/2008 $49.95 + Extended Download Service $5.99. (I rarely used this software, but have another hard drive I bought since then, installed in this machine). I only use this software on 1 PC at a time, as agreed. But when I access my account on Nero it shows "no downloads available". Why can't I download my original Nero 8 install.exe file now? I paid for extended downloads.

Answer:re-download for Nero 8 Ultra, paid, ext download paid?

Not sure why...but i'd contact Nero...

Hi Guys, Windows 7 security updates does not download, if showing N number of updates, it won't
download and the downloading shows life forever.\<o:p></o:p>
This problem has found in Windows 7 Ent and Windows
7 Ent SP1 in clean formatted PC with windows Activated and Domain not joined. Tried on several PCs and either it won't ever start or it will be showing 112 or 114 updates but it won?t ever download. Domain joined PCs have different
story, because GP options are enforced. There is no WSUS or patch management software yet on network. <o:p></o:p>
I am purely looking for an answer for this problem of Windows Update either not initiating at all if ever it is showing number of updates to be installed,
it never them downloaded and downloading screen with 0% activity is running forever. Please share any experiences and solutions. If there is a KB about it please refer. <o:p></o:p>

As a Win.7 Home Premium user,i can get the Win.10 up-date for free. I opted to reserve my up-date & recently had the up-date icon automatically added to my PC taskbar on boot up. I always have my up-dates set to ask me if i wanted to download them, but the Win.10 up-date starts on it's own. I removed the KB3035583 up-date app. which triggers the Win.10 up-date,but Win.10 is still trying to download onto my PC without requesting my permission - is there any way that i can stop this ?.
I've deleted the KB3035583 app. / cancelled my Win.10 up-date request / re-set my up-date settings to request my permission & it still goes on. I really don't want Win.10,at least just yet, & in reserving it,i expected to have more control over if & when i decided to download it. It seems that isn't the way Win.10 works - it's forced onto your PC whether you like it or not.
I just had a quick look in the Registry & KB3035583 is  there . It makes me wonder that regardless of deleting the actual app. in the Win. up-dates,whether it's presence in the Registry still triggers the download. If that's the case, then it's a pretty insidious way of doing things.

Answer:Preventing Windows 10 download.

I have the same issue, I deleted that update and win 10 keeps trying to install itself.

For some reason, whenever windows 8.1 updates, internet explorer stops working. Every time I try to get on the internet, I just keep getting a message that 'this page cannot be displayed'. Skype still works, so the problem seems to be internet explorer itself.

I have decided to switch to google chrome to fix the problem, but I can't do so without getting on the internet.

I would like to restore the computer to a point in which it worked, and I have one restore point which I'm certain will work, but the problem is, immediately after restoring, windows automatically updates, which kind of undermines the entire purpose of the restore. I have tried changing the update settings so it will restore without updating, but as soon as the system restores, my changes are undone and windows then proceeds with the stupid updates.

I just want to get on the internet somehow to install google chrome! (and no, I can't just copy and paste from the computer I'm currently on because this one has windows 7).

Any ideas?

Thanks,
smile puppy

Unplug your router, then do your system restore. You then have as much time as you need to configure Windows Update not to auto check.

A previous question about how to uninstal Windows Steady State goes unanswered.  I presume Microsoft people monitor these posts, but they do not know how to uninstall Windows Steady State to enable the Windows 10 1511,10586 updates
to be installed.   It looks like I am stuck in a bog unable to move forward with Windows 10, so intend to roll back to my previous version and then consider my OS options.
Is anyone aware of any major problems likely to be encountered by me taking this course?

Hi and welcome to SevenForums,
You might try to power down just hold down the power button on your computer till your machine turns off
Then unplug it from the power source and or remove the battery if using a laptop.
Hold down the power button again for at least 60 seconds to drain any power out of the system..

Then start in safe mode with networking at startup
Safe Mode

There are some windows updates you need to uninstall and kill some gwx services and processes
Which might be easiest to install never 10 or gwx control panel to do that

im not sure if this question belongs here, but im sure someone might point me in the right direction if ive got it wrong.

Facts:
My dad is getting a ROKR phone for xmas, the new ITunes one. It was free, and he gets it through work, so please refrain from "that phone sucks, dont buy it". He wants to get mp3s, legally. He wants to get one of the pay per song or per month type services, a la itunes, musicmatch, napster, yahoo and the million other ones out there.

My question is this. Which of these services allows you to download mp3s, and play them with any player, anytime, as much as you want. Out of my research, napster requires you to subscribe to play, and then only some mp3 players work, Itunes is 99c per song and seems to not download mp3s, instead the apple coded stuff.
Correct me if im wrong with any of the above, and please help me figure this out. My goal is to set him up and give him a gift subscription for whichever is best for Christmas.

Thanks is advance for any suggestions, criticisms, and clarifications.

Andy

Answer:legal (paid for) music download

Unfortunately, no service I know of ( legal ) allows you to natively download mp3s. Too "insecure" for them, and I doubt the music industry would stand that.

That said, itunes is "managable". There are rules to the forum that you have to observe, after all.

When trying to use Windows Update, the updates download successfully but fail to install. The following message appears: "Problem: A problem on your computer is preventing updates from being downloaded or installed." I have turned my antivirus software off, I have tried updating manually, I have tried updating one at a time. Nothing seems to work. I now have a backlog of 13 updates that I'm supposed to install. Can anyone please help? THANKS!

Answer:Windows Update: "problem on your computer is preventing updates from being installed"

Boot into "Safe Mode with Networking" (restart while tapping F8 repeatedly) and see if you can install the updates. This should work.

Evidently while trying to take advantage of the Windows 10 Upgrade, somehow some damage was done to a file(s) from my old  Windows 8.1 OS pertaining to a missing, or damaged, file....  \windows\system32\boot\winload.exe  ...  which
in turn rewflects an Error code:  0xc0000001...
At any rate, as a result, I am not able to boot up without an installation disc, nor perform the requested "Restart" to continue with the Windows 8.1 reinstallation because of this Error, and missing file(s), and am at my wits end...
Please does anyone have any idea what my best course of action might be at this point, as I have seeminglly tried everything that I could think of for the better part of two weeks now.
Last night a gal that lives a few doors down checked in on me, because she hadn't seen me for those two weeks and was just pretty concerned about whether I was allright or not, and she suggested that I take the laptop to an outside Technician, but
unfortunately, I am a disabled  U.S. Veteran, and I just don't have alot of money to work with.
If someone could please help me with this litlle bit of a predicament, I would surely appreciate it more than you could ever know.
Thank you....  And I Wish you Happy Holidays!

I hope this thread is in the right forum. I have a 320 Gb external hard drive almost full of movies that I paid for/downloaded 2 years ago from a site that I won't mention (since I attempted to access that site a couples of days ago and got a message about that site seized by law enforcement). I have no interest in piracy ect. I just want to be able to save the files for future viewing. I don't need to transfer or burn to disc ect. I've got $, but not a lot. What sites are best for this? Thanks,Mike

Answer:reputable site to download movies to HD, (legally-paid only) & best price?

It is not clear what you want. You have lots of movies already on a hard drive and you want to keep them. That should not be a problem. It becomes a problem if you distribute the immaterial in any way.But why keep movies you have already seen? You can get an account with Net Flicks and watch from a library of several thousand popular movies. It appears to be legal. Ok, I'm in a pickle here.
In the household we have 3 computers. 1 computer upstairs is the main computer with the router. My computer and the girlfriends is downstairs on wireless. We are currently paying for a 7.5 Mbps download speed. The computer upstairs and my girlfriends computer which is 10 feet away, get speeds between 7.5 Mbps and 10 during boost. My computer during a speed test will spike to 7.5 Mbps and remain anywhere from 2 Mbps to 3.5, roughly have of what they have. I have tested both wireless devices on my computer and my girlfriends, no improvement. She is running a device plugged via usb, I'm running a wireless card. Tried her usb, no success. Went into Task Manager and processes looking for other programs that would eat bandwidth, no success. And played around for a little bit with the channel settings on my card. It is Asus 802.11n Wireless Lan Card. It a quick fix by disabling a function I don't know about. I'm pretty computer savvy and can not for the life of me figure this out.

Running Windows 7, Kaspersky, Shaw is my ISP.

I'm having startup issues with a Windows 10 Build:
Cumulative update for Windows 10 ver. 1511
KB3192444. (I hope I copied it correctly).

Before this update is installed the problem doesn't exist, after it's installed it does.
I posted this issue here but have not gotten any help.
Because windows 10 automatically installs updates I needed to go into Group Policy Editor-Computer Configuration-Windows Components-Windows Update and set it to
"Notify for download and notify for install"

But, when I go back into settings for windows update advanced settings, the choose how updates are installed has remained with the same 2 options.

How can I be sure that Windows 10 does not install this update????
Does changing this setting in GPE work ok?

Any help will be appreciated,

Hi,
Right now i have about 56 updates pending, most of them office updates, and a couple of Windows updates.
I've discovered that a update is preventing my PC from sleeping, as when i do a system restore back to before i updated my PC will sleep, and then instaill them again my PC wont sleep.

I'm assuming its a windows update rather than an office update causing this problem.
Is there a better way to see which update is causing the problem rather than instailling each update, one by one?

Please follow the instructions in the READ & RUN ME FIRST link given further down and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

If you have problems where no tools seem to run, please try following the steps given in the below and then continue on no matter what you find. You only need to try the TDSSserv steps if having problems getting scans in the Read & Run Me First.
TDSSserv Non-Plug & Play Driver Disable

If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going.
Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not.

Helpful Notes:

If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in Safe Mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:

Starting your computer in Safe mode

If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes and Spybot ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. What can I do to prevent updates from preventing me from using my computer?
Apparently whoever designed Windows update never considered the possibility of people using small SSD drives that only have a fraction of the space required to run applications. Everything worked under Windows 7, although I did have to do some tweaking to get it to install apps directly to drive E: (my multi-terabyte hard drive). After installing Windows Update, I had to do the same registry tweak to make it install programs on drive E:, and it worked fine the first six weeks or so, but then it started routinely breaking one or two of my applications with each update. The problem was initially tedious to fix, but I eventually got everything working. However, I was not successful at getting Windows to comply with running my Chrome browser from E: I finally relented, and moved as many of the commonly used apps to drive C: (the SSD) and consequently had to set the cache size smaller. Everything was fine for another month or so.
However, beginning sometime in November, Windows updates started failing. It schedules an update, runs the update, reboots my computer, says the update failed, and reboots the computer again, uninstalled the update, and then it works. This was an annoyance, but since it only happened once a month, I put up with it.
Recently however, Windows has started retrying updates every few days, and doesn't bother warning me in advance or asking my permission. It just unceremoniously shuts... Read more

hello everyone,
my sons laptop has acquired a virus. (an acer aspire 5100 on xp)basically it is preventing any windows updates & any security scans. It is clever; for example if i attempt trend micro house call i get blue screen & the pc shuts down immediately. When i reboot it refers to fat32 as follows:
checking file system on c the type of the file system is fat32.

i have current subscription to trend micro internet security for three pc's but can't download due to the virus.
i am not a "power user" but i am capable of starting the the laptop in safe mode & carrying out basic tasks.(but it appears to be stopping that unless i'm doing something wrong with the "f8" key)

how serious is this & is there the idiots guide to a resolution?
thanks for looking bob (uk)

Hello guys, I hope I've posted this in the correct place. I'm only averagely tech minded so I'll try my best

I'm running Windows XP (sp3) and mostly use Chrome browser with IE occasionally.

My Avira Free has refused to net update for over 24hrs, and when I look at Internet Options I see the 'use proxy server' button is checked although I've previously un-checked it. I've managed to download manually from Avira and am currently running a scan with it & Malwarebytes.

I have some log files but I take notice of the warning against posting hijack this logs in this forum.

There are several processes & files that look decidedly fishy to me but am not sure of where/how to proceed. "ProxyServer = http=127.0.0.1:49717" for example!

I also use Malwarebytes free version & update & scan regularly with this & Avira free AV.

I usually scan any potentially fishy files with AV & MWB before downloading but something's gotten through (could be another user when I've not been here is responsible) or can hardware like a cheap chinese USB hub be responsible?

Answer:malware &/or virus (I think) is preventing AV updates

Welcome joolzLet's run these as I feel you have a rootkit. Many malwares like to change the proxy setting on you. Please click Start > Run, type inetcpl.cpl in the runbox and press enter.Click the Connections tab and click the LAN settings option.Verify if "Use a proxy..." is checked, if so, UNcheck it and click OK/OK to exit. Now check if the internet is working again. Please download the TDSS Rootkit Removing Tool (TDSSKiller.exe) and save it to your Desktop. <-Important!!!Be sure to download TDSSKiller.exe (v2.4.0.0) from Kaspersky's website and not TDSSKiller.zip which appears to be an older version 2.3.2.2 of the tool.Double-click on TDSSKiller.exe to run the tool for known TDSS variants.
Vista/Windows 7 users right-click and select Run As Administrator. If TDSSKiller does not run, try renaming it. To do this, right-click on TDSSKiller.exe, select Rename and give it a random name with the .com file extension (i.e. 123abc.com). If you do not see the file extension, please refer to How to change the file extension.Click the Start Scan button.Do not use the computer during the scanIf the scan completes with nothing found, click Close to exit.If malicious objects are found, they will show in the Scan results - Select action for found objects and offer three options.Ensure Cure (default) is selected, then click Continue > Reboot now to finish the cleaning process.A log file named TDSSKiller_version_date_time_log.txt (i.e. TDSSKiller.2.... I have a Compaq desktop at home running Windows 7 Home Premium. My girlfriend has a user account on it that she uses from time to time. She sometimes needs to restart the computer. When she tries to do that, many times the shut down screen shows "Install updates and Restart" as the default action. Is there a way to eliminate that option for her account or at least make Restart or Shutdown, without installing updates, the default choice? She is careful about changing the option, but I am concerned she might slip up one time.

I have no desire to upgrade to Windows 10 at this time (Yes, I know the free upgrade offer is supposed to end at the end of June). On my account, I manually go through the list of new available updates and remove any that are related to preparing the computer for Windows 10 or actually downloading and installing it.

Hello.

I posted in the Vista section about trouble I am having with updates installing. One person replied that "[b]ecause of the large number of problems in category items that [I] posted, and the corrupted SFC store," before I do anything else, I should post in this forum to make sure my system isn't infected.

To briefly summarize what I posted over there, I can't get some updates to install, and I have some corrupted files (or corrupted something . . . I honestly don't know enough to know what the problem is).

Answer:Possible malware infection preventing updates

Hello ti2,

I'm not seeing any malware in these logs. You can run an online scan and see if it detects anything lurking about. It can take some time, so please be patient and allow it to run it's full course:

**Vista users - right click on the IE icon and run as administrator

Using Internet Explorer or Firefox, visit http://www.kaspersky.com/kos/eng/par...avwebscan.html

1. Click Accept, when prompted to download and install the program files and database of malware definitions.

2. To optimize scanning time and produce a more sensible report for review:Close any open programs
Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan

3. Click Run at the Security prompt. The program will then begin downloading and installing and will also update the database. Please be patient as this can take several minutes.Once the update is complete, click on My Computer under the green Scan bar to the left to start the scan.
Once the scan is complete, it will display if your system has been infected. It does not provide an option to clean/disinfect. We only require a report from it.
Do NOT be alarmed by what you see in the report. Many of the finds have likely been quarantined.
Click View scan report at the bottom.

Click the Save as Text button to save the file to your desktop so that you may post it in your next reply

Hi,

DEP will not allow the download of Adobe Flashplayer. I need this to view the Radio Reference pages for scanner frequencies. Help!
Thanks.

Answer:DEP is preventing Adobe download

I am assuming you are trying to download with Internet Explorer and Windows 7. Xp will be similar. You want to turn protected mode off. You want to turn it off in internet zone only. Turn it back on after the download and install.

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/63141-internet-explorer-protected-mode-turn-off.html

Just be sure you are downloading flash from a legitimate site.

Hi Guys,

I could use some help getting rid of some malware that has been vexxing me for quite a while now. Looking back at my windows update history, I have been unable to install Vista Security Update KB979683 since 16 Apr 10 with it attempting to install everyday since then and always getting the same error 'FFFFFFFF'

I was unable to get a RootRepeal log as the program would use up all my RAM (2GB) and then just exit itself after about 20 mins.

My logs are attached. Thank You!

Answer:Malware preventing Vista security updates

Welcome to Major Geeks!

You ran steps in safe boot mode not normal boot mode. You should be running in normal boot mode to get proper logs unless that is not possible.

Also you skipped running step 6 of the READ & RUN ME so we cannot tell whether you have a Master Boot Record rootkit infection or it is just the disk emulation software you did not disable. To properly continue, you will have to run this step and then rerun MGtools and attach a new log; however, based on the sum of all logs, I don't think you are having malware problems.

While problems with Windows Updates can sometimes becaused by malware, it is quite frequently not malware. It could just issues with Windows itself or it could be your own protection sofware. You could try shutting down Symantec and Windows Defender and see if you can update.

I was going to download Norton 2009 antivirus, but the setup said that the computer needed and upgrade. I proceeded to the windows update to check. Sure enough I needed windows service pack 2. I tried to download this but got the error 80072efd. Its not the firewall, but i also realized that I cannot download it directly from the windows update website. I am really confused and need this antivirus cause my computer is infected at this time. All help will be appreciated.

It connects normaly, but the computer works like it would not be connected to the Internet. I unistaled the update, but the problem reappeard after 2-3 days. Now it looks that it is all OK, but I do not know what am I suposed to do.

Do you get a "Open this file with.." notice?. If so you may need to try the Vista file association fixes found here: http://www.winhelponline.com/articl...What types of pop ups are you getting?..Such as "Anti-Virus Pro", etc.Helpful tips before getting started: http://www.computing.net/howtos/sho...

According to my ISP I should be achieving download speeds of 12 Mp/sec. We have 4 computers (an old XP tower wired directly to our modem/router, a Windows 7 laptop, a Windows 10 laptop and a Windows 7 tower) and an iPad. Everything but the XP tower is wireless.

After the recent problems I had with the W10 laptop I figured it was time I had a W10 disk, but I can't ever seem to get it to complete. It's a 4.1GB file, but no matter which browser or computer I use it always fails.

When I turn off the wireless on my modem/router and run a speed test on the old XP tower I pretty much get that 13 Mb/sec download speed. When I turn the Wi-Fi on I'm lucky if I don't get a 'Latency Test Error' msg. If it does complete I get a DL speed of around 2.0 Mp/sec. When I actually try to download that ISO file (as I am now for about the 6th time), it'll start out giving me a rate of about 500 Kb/sec and telling me that it'll complete in just a few hours. But as time goes by the rate drops and drops and drops, and the estimated time to complete is soon up over a day. Right now Firefox is telling that it'll take 22 hours to complete at a rate of 39.7 Kb/sec. I know it won't complete.

We've got way too much going on with ipads and laptops for me to turn of the wireless for the amount of time this'll take to download.
What is another solution?

Hi guys. Basically just need guiding in removing zeroaccess.hi from my computer as quickly as possible. I'm an intermediate user I should say but I prefer a solid set of instructions. I tried to follow these instructions but I think the malware is preventing me downloading it, even when trying to save it under another name. It lets me download other programmes fine.

Best next step?

Answer:ZeroAccess.hi preventing EZSirefix download

Hi and welcome to MalwareTips!

I'm Fiery and I would gladly assist you in removing the malware on your computer.

Before we start:

Note that the removal process is not immediate. Depending on the severity of your infection, it could take a long time.
Malware removal can be dangerous. I cannot guarantee the safety of your system as malware can be unpredictable. It is possible that we might encounter situations where the only recourse is to re-format and re-install your operating system. Therefore, I would advise you to backup all your important files before we start.
Please be patient and stay with me until I give you the green lights and inform you that your PC is clean.
Some tools may be flagged by your antivirus as harmful. Rest assure that ALL the tools we use are safe, the detections are false positives.
The absence of symptoms does not mean your PC is fully disinfected.
If you are unclear about the instructions, please stop and ask. Following the steps in the order that I post them in is vital.
Lastly, if you have requested help on other sites, that will delay and hinder the removal process. Please only stick to one site.

I have 93 updates for XP & Office 2003 which I cannot install. I have stopped and re-started the update service & tried everything else I can find on the web.

I would be very grateful for any help anyone can provide!

Answer:A problem on your computer is preventing updates from being downloaded or installed

Is your windows update allowed to install updates automatically? Check your settings in the security center. I hope you are updating via a broad band connection. Also does windows download the updates and stalls have way thru the installation? During the install of the downloads, Windows will ask you to accept certain agreements. You may not be seeing these and think Windows has stopped installing. Windows will not move forward unless you respond to these agreement. When downloading be sure all the downloads are complete and upon the installation part, Minimize your screen to see these agreements. IE7 download and install is one of the biggest culprites. It hides behind your Download and install screen.
Hope this helps.

i am trying to get rid of Surf Sidekick spyware from my computer,
followed the steps, downloaded Brute Force,
but when im trying to download the "sidekickFix.bat" it would download it but would not show the actual file itself . Tried clicking it on my "downloaded files box" , and it says <b>sidekickFix.bat does not exist, may have been removed, renamed or deleted since it has been downloaded</b>. dont know if it is because of the browser (Mozilla Firefox) or that its just a deadlink..

anybody know how i could get the file so i may be able to finally get rid of this spyware ?

Answer:Unable to download sidekickFix.bat--spyware preventing this?

The site that the batch file is stored on seems to be down.

Please follow the steps below:

- Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support

Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.

Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.Click to expand...

After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis:

Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis

Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around.

When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too:

runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat
CounterSpy - ONLY IF you were not able to run Windows Defender
Bitdefender - from step 6
Panda Scan - from step 6
HijackThis

Hello all!Firstly, thank you so much for running such a magnificent site with such detailed and easily understandable instructions. I direct everyone I know to this site once they become infected--you offer such useful tools and great suggestions. Anyway, onto my problem. I'm working on a friend's laptop that was infected with System Check. (Boo!) The computer is unable to connect to my wireless, nor his wireless at home and the Windows diagnostic tool is of no help in that area. So everything I'm downloading to run on his computer, (rkill, gmer.zip, etc.) is being downloaded on my computer and transferred via flashdrive. Everything is being run on this computer while it's in Safe Mode with Networking. After going through the steps per the removal guide for System Check, I discovered that the infection was a lot tougher to remove than previously thought. It has kept MalwareBytes from being able to update, and I had to initially rename both TDSSKiller and MalwareBytes installer with single word names so that the malware wouldn't stop the process from running. When trying to run MalwareBytes after going through the guide with Rkill and TDSSKiller (which found no infection,) I receive an error from MalwareBytes that states: Program_Error_updating(11004,0,No address found)I am unsure if this is related to the rootkit, or if the rootkit is preventing the update due to the wireless connectivity issue. So I suppose my questions are thus:1.) Is the rootkit... Read more

Hi, my computer somehow picked up some nasty little programs that caused a lot of problems. This is my first time posting on a tech help forum so I hope I followed the rules correctly. If I've done anything wrong or you need some information I didn't supply, please let me know and I'll try to correct it ASAP.

Thanks in advance for your help :]
Okay, here's an outline of my problem:

Initially the desktop of my computer was changed into a screen that read "Warning! Spyware has been detected on your computer!" in Blue and Yellow text.

I downloaded and ran a few different antispyware programs:
SUPERAntiSpyware Free Edition
Dr. Web Cure It!
and Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware

Each of these programs detected some things and I had them remove them.

The desktop issue is no longer present now, however two issues that I know of remain.

I use Mozilla Firefox 3 and it works normal, same homepage and everything, except when I do a search in google, I can not follow the links. If I click on a link it'll divert me to some other things.
At first the links (under properties) all lead to some weird website that started with an "a" sorry I don't remember what it was...

Now all the links are to a go.google.com/? followed by a ridiculously long string of characters.

Some of the redirects try to get me to download some pseudo antivirus program antivirus 2009? I think it was called.

Other issues I have is I can't access any help sit... Read more

When ever I start a download it eats up my internet bandwidth, making browsing a normal web page take forever to load. When I'm not downloading a file i get about 12Mbps down, and 1Mbps up. When i start a download the numbers drop close to 0. The program performing the download seems negligible; whether its chrome, or IE, or a DL manager the download results are the same.

This only happens on this computer, running windows 7 ultimate, my laptop running windows 7 is exempt from this problem. no other programs, excluding the download, appear to be running in the background. as much as i like my laptop, i would prefer to use my desktop for downloads.

Answer:Download's consume bandwidth, preventing internet browsing.

Sorry to hear you are having a problem, and welcome to the forum! It sounds like a firewall may be the issue, so disable any and all firewalls.

NOTE - Many new antivirus solutions now include a firewall, so dont overlook that!

Please report your results...

Hey everyone, I am currently looking for an Internet security suite that best suits the following criteria in order of preference:

1- a very high detection rate
2- real time protection or whatever preventing malware from infecting my system is called.
3- user friendly
4- light on system resources.

I've been trying out NIS 2009 for a while and it's rather pretty nice with a decent detection rate. NIS 2009, KIS 2010 and ESET are the obvious choices from what I have gathered.

Please chip in. Thank you.

Answer:Best Internet Security Suite - Paid or Non Paid

I am biased I suppose, having used Comodo products to safeguard my PC for years now without any major faults found but you won't get better than the latest version of Comodo CIS and it is free. Here are a couple of reviews of it and there has just been an update to the version reviewd which in my view is even better than said version. Good luck.http://www.matousec.com/projects/proactive...roducts-ratingshttp://malwareresearchgroup.com/?p=1115

I have downloaded Windows 7 SP1 and have it on a disc. But after a clean install on Windows 7 and installing SP1 it still comes up and finds 230 updates which takes forever. Is there a lump sum offline single download for all of those updates after SP1? I haven't found it yet if there is.

Thanks!

Answer:Cant download windows updates

Might be worth contacting Microsoft, and telling them your problem, it could be just a temporary fault, at the other end that is stopping you from downloading them. I know on occasions I have went to download Windows updates and get failed on some of them. If I remember correctly on some of my windows updates that would not download, I found the solution on Microsofts forum (I think thats what it was called)Might be worth taking note of the Windows updates that won't download, and entering the name of each one seperatly into google with the word "cannot download" then the name of the update, into google and on Microsofts forum as well, to see if it turns up anything.

Please run a full CHKDSK and SFC scan....

Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right-click on the Command Prompt entry
Select Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up.

At the Command prompt, type

CHKDSK C: /R

and hit the Enter key.
You will be told that the drive is locked,
and the CHKDSK will run at he next boot - hit the Y key, and then reboot.

The CHKDSK will take a few hours depending on the size of the drive, so be patient!

After the CHKDSK has run, Windows should boot normally (possibly after a second auto-reboot) -
then run the SFC.

SFC -System File Checker - Instructions
Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right-click on the Command Prompt entry
Select Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up.

At the Command prompt, type

SFC /SCANNOW

and hit the Enter key

Wait for the scan to finish - make a note of any error messages - and then reboot.

Does anyone know where I could download Windows updates without going to www.microsoft.com. Answer:Where To Download Windows Updates?

Not having updates installed wouldn't stop you from going to sites, Windows updates are usually for exploits that hackers can use. If you can't get to Microsoft, Google or Mozilla you may have had your hosts file edited by a virus. Update your Antivirus and run a scan. If it doesn't repair your hosts file then you could overwrite it with the MVPS HOSTS File. There are no official mirrors for windows update (apart from the ones the real site uses). However there is a site called WindizUpdate that offers a plugin for firefox that scans for security updates like your one above and installs requires security updates.Hope that helps! -edit- removed link...

I just completed following the steps laid out for me by chaslang to rid my dreadfully slow computer of all malware. It's now as fast as the day we got it, but I have one last problem. I can't download windows updates.

The two updates it shows needed right now are the .NET Framework ver 1.1 Service Pack 1 and the Windows malicious software update.

It downloads them fine and initializes them, but when it comes to installing them it always says "fails".

I hope you can help.

Thanks...

Answer:can't download windows updates

Sometimes Windows Update goes freaky and doesnt fully install an update, yes it downloads it ok but fails on install, so a good step to resolve this is to download the updates manually and install, then go back to WU and check for further updates.

Additionally online I can't totally use sites that involve ActiveX scripts even though all my sercurity and premission settings are correct. I run an antivirus, registry cleaner and spy sweeper. I ran the XP install disc for repair. It did not help. What is blocking my Windows updates and scripting on certain sites?

What browser are you using? If you're running Internet Explorer, try Dial-A-Fix. Check all the boxes in the 'Repair Windows Update' section, all the box in the 'SSL' section, and all the boxes in the 'Registration Center' and click Go. Then reboot. That has fixed Windows Updates and general browsing trouble many times (for me anyway).
Dial_A_Fix http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4899.html

I hope this helps!

(Don't worry; you cannot possibly do any damage with Dial_A_Fix. It doesn't delete or add anything. The first few times I ran it I was a bit intimidated, but it's all good)

hello there

recently i had some virus problems and i had to make a repair install and a lot reg fixes and such and i wanted to download all windows updates (critical and security) because the repair install left me with fresh SP2 installation .

i downloaded IE7 and when it started downloading security updates a window popped up to notify me that all updates FAILED

then i went and tried to download the updates the regular way , first file was Windows Installer 3.1 but it failed also so i went and did download it manually from Microsoft website and after the install i went and opened the update screen again and i could see Tons of critical and security updates waiting i pressed DOWNLOAD just to see the window pop up that all the updates failed

I'm so desperate now since my PC is soo vulnerable for attacks and hackers and all what can come to your minds

so i this problem caused by the repair install or some key missing in the registry or by some hidden Stupid virus ?

i do use Kaspersky 7 / Zonealarm pro / winpatrol / spyware blaster but i feel something is not right

HELP ME please

For some reason, I can't download windows updates. This started a week ago. I have the automatic updates indicated in Control Panel>system. I'm running an xp system.

Because I can't get the updates automatically, I went to the Microsoft site and tried to download them manually. What happened is the applet kept looking for updates and eventually timed out in about 10 minutes. The error messase was that Windows encountered a problem.

It appears that there's a file missing or corrupted; I'm just not sure how to fix it.or what it is.

Hi!

I am looking for a way to create my own custom DVD disc with both SP1 and SP2 for Vista. But then I figure, what's the point of doing that if I can't get the updates.

So is there a way to download and integrate Windows updates that came between service packs or after the last service pack?

Please help! I am computer dummy, so please if you reply, keep in mind I am a computer idiot! For the last couple of weeks I keep getting windows update icons. I click on the icon, it just disappears! So I click on start button, click on windows updates, the page freezes and will not fully load or close for that matter! So I reboot, open IE and go directly to windows update, I do the scan, it says there is two updates, I click on it but it will not down load! Now I have read a thousand threads on what to do! I have turned of the automatic updates, I do not have a fire wall, I have tried to manually download each update individually! I have done alot of other things too to resolve this issue, too many to list! If you do a google search on this problem, check the first 5 pages, I have done all of it! None have solve this irratating problem. Also I can not get to my add/delete programs section!

This problem started when I resolve another issue I was having which was with an ATI program I use to run my 32" lcd monitor! Or it could be from a spybot program that was accidentally stopped and immunized some registries!! I am not sure!

I am sure of one thing, if I do not solve this problem, golf season will start early!! As I will pull my 9 iron out and beat this computer to a pulp! lol

Answer:windows updates will not download and more lol

Not sure about the update problem but try re-registering dll files to fix Add/Remove.

Open Notepad or another text editor (Start Menu > run > type notepad and press OK)

Then copy and paste the following into Notepad:

regsvr32 /s %systemroot%\System32\Appwiz.cpl
regsvr32 /s %systemroot%\System32\Jscript.dll
regsvr32 /s %systemroot%\System32\Msi.dll
regsvr32 /s %systemroot%\System32\Mshtmled.dll
regsvr32 /s %systemroot%\System32\Ole32.dll
regsvr32 /s %systemroot%\System32\Urlmon.dll
regsvr32 /s %systemroot%\System32\Clbcatq.dll
regsvr32 /s %systemroot%\System32\Oleaut32.dll
regsvr32 /s %systemroot%\System32\Mlang.dll
regsvr32 /s %systemroot%\System32\Shell32.dll
regsvr32 /s %systemroot%\System32\Plugin.ocx
regsvr32 /s %systemroot%\System32\Imgutil.dll
regsvr32 /s %systemroot%\System32\Cscui.dll
EXIT

Go to File on the top bar of notepad and choose Save As, be sure the "Save As Type" is set to "All Files", name it register.bat and save it to your desktop.

Double click register.bat, you will notice cmd screen open then list each file and close, its then finished and registered the files.

Reboot and check Add/Remove.

Answer:Windows Ten Won't Download Updates!

Sometimes there's corruption in the Windows updates. Here's what you should do:

1. Run Command Prompt (Admin), type in the following and then hit the Enter key: net stop wuauserv.
2. Open up Windows Explorer and navigate to the Windows folder. Look for the SoftwareDistribution folder and rename this to SoftwareDistribution.old.
3. Go back to the Command Prompt, type in the following and then hit the Enter key: net start wuauserv.
4. You should see a new instance of the SoftwareDistribution folder has been created, so delete the SoftwareDistribution.old folder.
5. Try checking again for updates.

Hello, I cant download windows update. The computer's current setting of update is set in "Do Not Check or Install Updates" mainly because after the update check and when the updates are installed, all the updates gets installed 100% but when the update procedure during restart occurs, it says "Update Failed" and reverts all updates. I think there is a corrupt update in the list of found updates. Please help. This has been happening since November 2014. Thanks.

Samsung NC10 running XP3, zone alarm and AVG free version.
Its months I cannot download windows update.
At first, the check for updates system on the windows update website was running continually without stopping.
Now it can find the updates, but when I click on download, the window open but it doesn't dowload them, I end up with all the updates written as failed.
I know that window XP won't get any updates starting april, and I want to get every updates possible before that happen.

Answer:Cannot download windows updates on XP

Try doing them one at a time rather than as a batch.

Hi.
Everytime I go onto Windows update page, the "checking for updates" bar just hangs.
There is a green mark that moves from left to right accross this bar, so I know the page hasnt frozen, but no downloads are detected.

I also get this problem with Microsoft Security Essentials when trying to update.

Strange.

Eddie

Good morning,

The Windows Update today lists 17 available updates (1-Office 2010, 11-Windows 7, 5-Office 2007).  However, when I select one or several of the updates to be downloaded and click OK in the bottom right to download and install the update(s), the download page does not come up - it reverts directly back to Windows Update home.

My setting for updates has always been "let me choose whether to download and install them".  I notice they no longer have the pre-checked W10 in the optional update listing.  Two snips attached.  I have restarted also.

Any suggestions on how to get the updates downloaded and installed - what might be going on?

Thank you.

Answer:Windows updates will not download

The Windows Update functions seem to be out of kilter today.  I would let it go and try either later today or tomorrow.

For some reason, when trying to install the latest updates to Windows 8.1 fails & also seems to freeze the windows update page itself. Help would be greatly appreciated to resolve these matters. It tells me withing the update page that updates were never performed with a 80246008 error code.

Answer:windows updates won't download

How are you trying to apply these updates - manual download, or via Microsoft Update?

If the latter, go to http://www.update.microsoft.com/, then click on Update History on the left-hand panel; it should give you a list of all (successful and failed) updates. If you click on the red mark of the failed updates, it will give you the error code, which is?
