Shutdown of W7 triggers Num. Lock on K/B

Question: Shutdown of W7 triggers Num. Lock on K/B

Got a new comp recently, 660S, it has the annoying habit of lighting the Num. Lock on my (wired, USB) Keyboard at Shutdown only way so far to switch off the light is to unplug the keyboard which is becoming boring!
BTW the light would remain on even though the comp. is shut down until it is restarted - then it goes out!

Preferred Solution: Shutdown of W7 triggers Num. Lock on K/B

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Shutdown of W7 triggers Num. Lock on K/B

Think I found the answer, I removed my k/b from the USB Hub that I was using and plugged it directly into the computer (only available port was USB3) now the light comes on when shutting down but goes off when the comp completely shuts down! It comes back on again at start up but goes out when OS finishes loading - I can live with that!

Hi,

I can't work my keypad opn my satellite pro L300, I have to plug in an external keypad to log on.
All the keys seem to be working except for the Ctrl key which activates the Caps Lock when I press it.

Ive scanned for viruses, reset the keypad settings to default and run the diagnostic tool and still no luck.
Its possible my daughter pressed some key combination when she was on the laptop whiuch activated some lock but how do i reset it?

Answer:Ctrl Key triggers Caps Lock on Satellite Pro L300 - cant log on

Hi

Check if the FN+F10 and FN+F11 are not enabled.
If the FN+F10 and FN+F11were enabled then you should see a green LED below these buttons. Check it.

Otherwise it?s not known to me that any other key combination could remap the keyboard buttons; for example; Ctrl Key to Caps Lock

Hi I've been experiencing BSOD crashes for a while now and need help getting them fixed.
They can occur on startup, shutdown and while playing games. But they can also appear at other random times. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi there,

You have a few hardware related Bugchecks,

Bug Check 0x124: WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR (Windows Debuggers)

You had one of those above.

You had a couple of these,

Quite a few of these,

Bug Check 0x50: PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA (Windows Debuggers)

Cause

Bug check 0x50 usually occurs after the installation of faulty hardware or in the event of failure of installed hardware (usually related to defective RAM, be it main memory, L2 RAM cache, or video RAM).
Another common cause is the installation of a faulty system service.
Antivirus software can also trigger this error, as can a corrupted NTFS volume.

Since you list Microsoft Security Essentials as your AV, we can rule that out as a possible cause.

There was a mention of your display driver,

I try to shut down my computer, the OS is windows XP Professional.

It goes to the normal shutdown screen. "Windows is shutting down" And then locks up... after a minute, all of my peripherals shut off (mouse and keyboard lights go off), and then it BSoDs me...

What kind of information do you guys need to help me out, ask and I will tell.

It's quite the nuisance not being able to shut down in an orderly fashion, and I do not know if it is having an adverse effect on my computer... For safety's sake, I would like to resolve this problem

Ask away to help me isolate and solve this problem,

-Olan

PS. I have reformatted once, and that did NOT solve this problem.
I have also taken apart the PC and put it back together. MY BIOS and drivers are up to date. And... I have the latest windows updates.

I am having a strange problem that has been occuring now on a regular basis. I am running windows ME and using zone alarm as my fire wall. I also use antivar, DR. Spyware, along with spyblaster ccleaner to clean up spyware and malware on aty regular intervoles. I have run HJT and had major geeks review the log. All was good with my system.I am also up to date with all the micro soft windows updates to ME. However when I power down I get a blue screen (not the blue screen of death with an error message) but a pale blue screen. At that point the system hangs. I have to reboot to safe mode, run disk scan and then power down. The other think that will sometimes happen when I go though this process, is the next time I power up. Sometimes I get a message that my last power down of window was incorrect and I have to hit the radio bar on my screen to get back my desk top. Any ideas. I can supply any othere info you may need. I would like to thank anyone in advance for ant help.

I've now looked at 9 of this series with a variety of chip and HD specs.  All share the same problem - random screen freeze-up, no operation of keyboard,  mousepad or mouse, often, but not always  followed by  involuntary machine switch off. Because they are all well out of warranty, no help has been available from HP.  All the geek sites have provided useful info, from hardware checks - Speedfan etc., updating drivers for everything including the  AMD graphics cards, cleaning out dust, but none have provided a cure. Both the 500 series and b27SA models are involved. Has HP ever put out any advisories other than what I've already done? Joxter  (TIA)

I am having problems with this computer shutting down, booting and even sometimes while surfing the internet. It locks up about 50% of the time shutting down, and locks up while booting maybe 25% of the time. Sometimes while on the internet a web page will just freeze and upon pressing cntrl/alt/delete once I get the message that Internet Explorer is not responding.
When I choose *End Task* it freezes the system and I have to hit the reset button on the case.

These problems started when I installed my MSI G4 MX440 card a few weeks back. I have updated to the newest drivers for the video card but that has not made any difference.

Should I reinstall Win98SE on top of itself to get the drivers and software back to normal or will that work?

My system is a 400 MHz Celeron, Super Micro P6SBA Mobo, 256MB Micron RAM, WD 80 GB HDD, MSI G4MX440 video card, Diamond Monster Sound MX 300 sound card.

I appreciate any help

Mike

Answer:Computer shutdown/boot lock up's

Have all available windows updates been done? If not I would try that first.

From my experience, re-installing 98 on top of itself will create many more problems than it will fix.

Probably just time for an FFR.

after requesting shutdown the screen went black, the light for the speaker being muted did not go off and the caps lock light is flashing 5 times slow and then 3 times fast, and keeps repeating this. The problem happened 2 time the first 2 days I had it and after forcing a power down when the laptop booted the OS was corrupted and I had to do a full reload. If it happened a third time I was going to contact HP but the problem went away for 2 months and now it is back

After trying to register at their forum, I finally gave up and hope to get help here.

This may be a stupid question, but Slawdog Smart Shutdown has an option to lock the computer. What does this mean? If I lock it, how do I get it unlocked?

I'm thinking this might be a good feature to use for a 16 year old grandson who gets up after we go to bed and gets on my computer. If I could lock it so he couldn't use it without my input, that would be great. Am I on the right track here, or does it mean something totally different?

Thanks
Peg

Answer:Slawdog Smart Shutdown - lock

You really dont need anything to lock him out. Try giving your account a password and when done on the pc simply log out and he cannot get on unless you let him on. Also you can set up to prompt for a password at the screensaver settings screen.

Hi Experts,When we want to lock the computer we do the following:Ctrl Alt Del(A dialog box appears)Lock computerWhen we want to unlock the computer we do the following:Ctrl Alt Del(A dialog box appears)Key in passwordEnterIs there any possibility in the registry (or somewhere) of XP Professional menu to:1.      automate the above,2.      automate a shutdown at specified time? Thanks.

Answer:Auto lock, unlock and shutdown

1) What do you want to automate? Lock? Well, you can use also the windows key+L (the L key). To unlock, you have to press ctrl+alt+del and enter the username and password (username, in case you want to log off the user which locked the computer). You can't automate this -- but you can disable the lock option (why do you want to do it?). Are you in a domain? Then talk to network administrator/system administrator. It's your home computer? Then use the simple logon options, without passwords.A simple way to lock the computer it's to set the computer to lock when enters in screen saver mode.2) For shutdown at a specified time: you may create a bat file, which should contain a line like:shutdown -s -f -t 60(see shutdown command in windows)And then, add a new scheduled task which runs that bat file at the specified time.

Hi,

I seem to have a problem with my paths in windows xp pro. I'm not too sure what it is that has caused the problem, but it is hindering my use of my computer quite badly.

Whenever I run command line prompts such as ping or net, I get an error saying

'net' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.

The most recent cause is when I'm trying to run a development MySQL server on my machine and the command line prompt is C:\>NET START MYSQL, to begin the instance. Its the same for any ping commands I run, which means I can't network the PC with anything either. I can temporarily solve the problem by going into the windows registry and navigating to

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control \SessionManager\Environment

and changing the path entry 'type' from REG_SZ to REG_EXPAND_SZ. However, whenever I shut down the PC, the path entry goes back to REG_SZ. Is there some way I can lock this change in the registry values, so it stays the way I instruct in the future, and I don't have to keep changing it every time I want to connect my computer to just about anything?

Hi

For some reason I have not got the shutdown options within the Lock Screen. They are only in the login but I want to have them in the Lock Screen as I may find myself unable to access login screen sometime in the future. I would like to have that functionality.

I have confirmed the option in my Security Policies is set to disabled but I'm guessing this is not the correct setting. Please advise, as I know it's possible but cannot find the option at the moment. I'm guessing it is most likely in the registry somewhere but have not checked there as yet. Thanks!

Answer:No shutdown option from within Lock Screen

Press and hold the power button. Or set the power button option, in Advanced Power Options, to Shut Down the system for both AC powered and Battery powered.

Not sure why you wouldn't be able to access the login screen. No need to actually Log In. That option is available from the Log In screen where you type in your password.

I was trying to help a friend w/ his laptop w/ Vista (which I have not used before) and when we shut it down, I accidently hit the LOCK icon and closed the lid. When he tried to restart, the system appears to come back up, but then the screen goes black. I tried CTL-ALT-DEL, but nothing happened, still black screen, but there is lots of disk activity going on. We did a hard shutdown (holding power button down) and rebooted, getting an error screen and then booting in safe mode. Can do that, but don't know what to modifiy or try and change. When we reboot into std OS, same old thing, black screen after just a flash of the main screen. HELP????

Answer:AT SHUTDOWN the unit Satellite 2400 lock up

Hello

The base system device is usually the PCMCIA slot or card reader or both. Some laptop manufactures bundle a set of drivers and call it "Chipset" even though it includes more than the chip set.
I assume that you didn?t install the chipset driver or you have install it but in the false order. The chipset driver should be installed at first.

Well, the windows want shut down because some background processes are running or because of a OS malfunction. I assume that this problem doesn?t occur with the Toshiba recovery CD because all drivers are installed properly.

About the BIOS procedure:
Please check this Toshiba page. There you will find a instructions how to update the BIOS.
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/faq.jsp?z=234&service=EU&from=faq_selection&CFID=B IOS&FID=TRO0000000b07

But please note: The wrong BIOS or a wrong procedure can damage the mainboard. Firstly you should check if the clean installation with the Recovery CD will solve the problem before you start the BIOS update!!!

Hi all,Over the past few months I've been using an X200 Tablet with Windows 7.  Since I've had it I've noticed problems with it not 'sleeping' properly and the ability to Lock, Restart or Shutdown the computer going missing. I?ve done some troubleshooting and narrowed down a scenario where I can repeat the problem 100% of the time.  -       Setup computer with USB device (a keyboard and mouse will do)-       Boot and logon-       <test to see if locking works, and unlock ? it works>-       Sleep the computer-       Wake the computer-       <test to see if locking works, and unlock ? it works>-       Unplug any of the USB devices At this point the computer can?t be locked, and if you send it to sleep it will essentially crash meaning you have to do a hard shutdown (or as has happened a few times, wait for the battery to run out in your laptop bag...).  I?ve tried different USB ports on the computer and different mice.  I've updated the BIOS and all the drivers, I've even rebuilt it from the Windows DVD.  Is something anyone else has experianced?  If you have a X200 tablet does the same thing happen to you? T

Answer:Help - Repeatable X200T USB, Sleep and Lock/Restart/Shutdown crashes

Out of the blue, I happened to install this Microsoft hotfix (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/976755), and today was the first day that, upon docking, I was able to lock my laptop, and I assume it will go to sleep at the end of the day when I take it home. In checking this forum, I see that this fix was suggested here some time ago:http://forum.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-Tablet-ThinkPad-Laptops/X200-Tablet-Win7-Black-screen-freeze-on-... Hope this helps.

I have an X201 Tablet (3113-W4M) that came preloaded with Windows XP SP3.  I blew away the XP image and reloaded with Windows 7 Enterprise and obtained all Windows 7 drivers from the Lenovo website. The issue is that after the system resumes from Sleep or Hibernate *and* I plug in a USB mouse or USB mouse/keyboard combo, I am unable to lock, shutdown, restart, or hibernate the system.  Additionally, anything that invokes UAC fails to display.  If I look at Processes under Task Manager, I see where consent.exe is running (called when a UAC approval prompt should be displayed).  Sometimes it is running multiple times corresponding to multiple events that should have displayed the prompt (e.g. running RegEdit).  Turning off UAC is a workaround to this issue but does not address the root cause and does not address the lock/shutdown/etc. issue. After extensive troubleshooting that included 2 full OS reloads, process monitoring, and deep log reviews, I have narrowed my issue to the following steps: 1) Boot tablet with no USB mouse and/or keyboard attached2) Attach USB mouse and/or keyboard>>>Attempt to lock workstation and launch Regedit both function as expected.3) Hibernate tablet (USB mouse and/or keyboard attached)4) Resume from hibernate (USB mouse and/or keyboard attached)>>>Attempt to lock workstation and launch Regedit both fail I discovered this as I move my system from work (Logitech S510 keyboard/mouse c... Hello! Since the most recent build of W-10 (9879), my caps lock, num lock, and scroll lock lights do not function on either computer on which I have W-10 installed (a desktop with a USB keyboard and a laptop with an integrated keyboard). The keys still work to correctly toggle the functionality, but the keyboard lights don't work. In case it matters, my keyboard's actual backlights and my mouse's internal light (not the laser, the internal LED) are working correctly, it's just the CL, NL, and SL indicators that don't function.

Anyone have any ideas for fixing this?

Hi,

You'll find that the messages are controlled by a piece of software that came pre-installed on your machine when you bought it. Try looking for a Hotkey managing app to see if the notifications can be disabled.

Sometimes electrical components needs to have all power sources removed and reintroduced to work properly.  Try performing a hard reset first, if it doesn't work then try updating your BIOS.  If neither works...It's pretty much dead and not worth fixing.  To Perform A Hard Reset Shut down the computer by going to the Start menu and selecting shut down. (If you have no display, hold the power button down for  5 seconds)Disconnect the AC Adapter from the notebook.Remove the battery from the bottom of the notebook.  There will be a switch/button to eject the battery.Wait at least 1 minute with all power sources disconnected.Re-insert the battery and reconnect the AC Adapter and then attempt to power on the notebook.

Can you toggle those functions off, one at a time? Sometimes restarting the computer will use the last state it was in, I'd fully shut down and pull the power cord from the computer and the keyboard cable then put them back and try again.

Guys,

Im looking at solving a problem at work but im not sure if its possible.

Our software at work uses a SQL database, we can run reports from this or schedule reports to email automatically, im wanting to set triggers in SQL (if this is what they are for) to monitor a field (integer) and if the field reaches a certain number then SQL or an external program can run the reports automatically instead of waiting for the scheduled time to run (the scheduler is a separate program outside of SQL and outside of our software).

Any ideas where to start? I do all my programming in VB.Net

cheers

Hey,

I am just starting mysql triggers for the first time and am not sure how to proceed despite some goggling..

I have a field which I need to automatically calculate an equation which gets the difference between a specified date and the current date, and then multiplies this by a pay rate in another table.

Basically: (TABLEB.PAYRATE * (DATENOW - TABLEA.PREVDATE)).

This obviously needs to automatically calculate each time any of the data updates or it is the next day.

Unfortunately I am a bit of a novice when it comes to SQL databases let alone Triggers and was wondering if anyone could help me with this?

Many Thanks in advance.

Answer:MySQL Triggers Help

Some thoughts(and search terms) to get you started...let's just assume table A holds the trigger/updated field for this post.

-You will need to join payrate from table B
-You may need to convert dates(this is good research to have in your toolbox anyway)
-You will need to determine when the trigger fires(update only or insert as well)
-You may need a CASE statement depending on your specific need

A couple of links below...happy hunting.

WhenI attempt to use the Acquire facility in my image editor, the hour glass appears for a lengthy time. I found a program running called wowexec.exe. I terminated it, and the image editor connected with the scanner. What caused wowexec.exe to run? Why, when I end the process is the connection between my image editor and scanner completed?

Answer:What triggers wowexec.exe

WOWEXEC.EXE is a "shim" to run 16 bit windows applications on a 32bit Windows O/S. If your scanner driver is invoking it, you need to look for a proper driver for your O/S for the device. It may also be the image application, but in any case, it's time for an upgrade.

My Compaq restarts frequently. Have observed that this is most of the time associated with scrolling a window down.

This is a Compaq P4/2.4 GHz/40 GB/256 MB ram running on XP pro.

Have updated windows, antivirus. Have also installed the mouseware. Tried replacing the mouse & keyboard.

But no way. Randomly it restarts which looks to be triggered by scrolling any window. Does not look to be associated with any software.

Any suggestions

Answer:Scrolling triggers XP to restart

Having waited so long for someone to reply, I continued my efforts to resolve the problem. Spoke to Compaq guys. Did the bios upgrade. Sent the machine to our IT guy. But no effort could solve the problem. I am still scared of scrolling a window. Have also noticed that I used to lose some OE mails during the restart process. Yesterday evening we noticed that the power supply is set at 220 V instead of 110 V. More than 24 hrs have passed without any trouble after setting the power supply correctly to 110 V. Still observing.... Wondering if power supply could create this kind of problem?

I seem to be getting random bluescreens.
Sometimes playing some videogames, or watching a video, or sometimes doing nothing but staring at the desktop, it's really random and annoying.

Some days it will blue screen a couple of times or either work fine all day long.
I've tried running a memtest and it came back fine.

I've updated the AMD card driver to the latest version.

I've also done a sfc /scannow which came back fine.
I even tried to reinstall windows, but I'm still getting these random bluescreens.

I'm not really sure what's causing the problem and I'd really appreciate your feedback.

Counterfeit installations such as yours contains heavily modified code that causes the installation to behave it unexpected ways. Analysing BSOD's and determining their causes on these sorts of installations is very unreliable.

My recommendation is to start with a clean slate, and install a genuine version of Windows. This will minimise the problems you are experiencing, and make subsequent diagnosis of BSOD's far more reliable.

I hope I'm in the right forum. I've been working with batch files to automate some maintenance and security features for a friend who does not know much about computers but needs some sort of system to keep her computer as clean as possible without her input as it would confuse her. I have a general working knowledge of how .bat files work but have only just begun to delve deeper into its finer points as I stumble across a problem. I have the computer all pretty much setup but I left this last thing to ask as it seems like it would be a little more complex than what I have been doing with batch files.

I am looking for a way to have a batch file activate when a certain event occurs. I want the batch file to automate updating particular applications like spybot. I know how to do that part of the batch. However, the computer uses a dial-up connection and is not on 24/7.

If it were my computer I would automate that feature using rasdial. But this is for a friend who is not computer savvy and they may not use the same ISP in the future so the connectoids may change thus making the automated rasdial feature ineffective as soon as an ISP change is made.

And that is the problem. It would be nice if the batch activates when a certain event occurs telling it that the computer is online so it can perform its updating task without relying on rasdial.

Any kind of advice is welcome. Also I would like to setup a counter of some sort in the batch so it does not activate eve... Read more

Edit: I'm not sure what triggers this yet, but I do see an increase in frequency if I am gaming or have Netflix running, so possibly something to do with graphics???

Is anyone able to help me identify the reason why my computer continues to BSOD? I did a pretty large upgrade recently, chipset to haswell, 16 to 32gb of ram, gtx580 to gtx680 classified, 850w to 1000w psu, added new case fans, got an h80i for my cpu. That being said, I'm not sure where to start.

I've checked airflow and temperatures, I don't believe it has anything to do with that. H80i is preforming well, case fans are moving air nicely through my HAF X case, and the fan on my GPU is confirmed spinning.

I've gone through my wiring completely ensuring everything is properly connected. I have reseated my RAM to ensure it was working properly. GPU has been removed and reseated, and any non essential periphs have been removed.

Tonight while reading through my emails, I got a notification about something called Cortana Triggers. I went through the little tutorial and it looks like an interesting idea. I did this on my Windows 10 desktop.
So then I went to my phone, currently Windows 10 Mobile. I went to the store and found Cortana Triggers there as well - for about $5.
Is it free for desktops/laptops but not for phones?

Whenever I navigate to rapidshare or rapidgator.net, whether or not I engage a download, my computer will fail and the BSOD will engage.  It takes approximately 45 seconds after I visit the sites for my computer to crash.

Below is information I pulled from the error from my computer's event viewer.

Error code 1000008e, parameter1 c0000005, parameter2 89fe026e, parameter3 ad486a90, parameter4 00000000.

Unfortunately, I do not know how to fix this problem.  I sincerely doubt that this error is caused by bad RAM.
Any help with this problem would be appreciated.

Hiya

MSMQ Triggers is a Message Queuing application that allows you to automatically associate incoming messages in a queue with functionality in a COM component or standalone .exe. With MSMQ Triggers, you can invoke business rules in response to incoming messages without any additional programming. Likewise, MSMQ Triggers is a simple and scalable mechanism that exposes business logic in MTS packages via Message Queuing. By providing native support within Message Queuing for triggers, you can deploy standard mechanisms for invoking behavior at a queue level.
System Requirements
Supported Operating Systems: Windows 2000, Windows NT

Computer running Windows NT 4.0 with Service Pack 4 (or higher) and MSMQ 1.0 (Intel-based processors only)
Computer running Windows 2000 with MSMQ 2.0.

Note: MSMQ Triggers cannot be installed on Windows 95, on Windows 98, on dependent client computers, or on server cluster nodes.

I have my BIOS set for Optimized graphics, and will use the w520 for its first tethered shoot on Saturday. That means that Adobe Lightroom (part of the Photoshop family) will monitor and manipulate images while a Canon utility will operate the camera over a USB connection. Photoshop itself may also be open. I have the 1000-level graphics board. How does the board know it should kick in if set this way? How would I know it did so? Should I set the option to force use of discrete graphics in the BIOS for the hours of the shoot for such a dedicated use as this? I expect to have access to 110 volt power so have no issues with battery life. I have read a lot of threads that discuss the graphics board but still felt I should ask these questions. Thanks, in advance, for your thoughts. jonathan7007

Answer:What triggers the use of discrete graphic board?

Its all handled by nvidia and it is based on the process that is opened. Nvidia has a large list of processes so that for the most time it is completly automatic. If you want you should also be able to right click on the icon and select which graphcics card you want to run it on. You can also set the changes perminatly by going into the nvidia control panel and adding it to the list.

I had this problem with windows 8/8.1 as well but don't remember what I did to fix it and can't seem to figure it out this time. I had to reinstall Windows 10 after upgrading to it, and forgot to write down my settings for this.

I also want it so that if it runs, then the computer is used and becomes idle again, it runs again after another 15 minutes of idle. hi all,

I would like to be able to find some software that would allow my computer to automatically click certain buttons on my screen after a specific email is sent. The reason for this is that I have have investments and unfortunately the spreadbetting company I am with only notify you via email when certain criteria are met but do not initiate any action. Obviously I don't stare at my email constantly checking for these alerts and since these are opportunities that last for only a few minutes I need a macro to be able to take advantage of these situations.

By the way I have no knowledge of programming and scripts so any answers involving them could they please be carefully explained.

Thanks!!

I am using a Lenovo ThinkPad W520 running Microsoft Windows 7 Enterprise with BitLocker enabled and encryption keys stored on the Trusted Platform Module (TPM). The laptop is frequently used with a docking station. No changes have been made to the hardware connected to the laptop, the hardware inside the laptop, or the hardware connected to the docking station. Although the hardware remains unchanged I seem to be randomly prompted with the TPM prompt to unlock the device on startup. This is a severe usability issue. The prompts are so frequent that the TPM no longer provides any value. The value of holding the keys in the TPM is lost when the number of prompts for the key is unpredictable and too frequent. What events should tigger for the TPM to prompt for the key? Have other users found the TPM to be usable on other W520 machines with Windows 7? Test System: Lenovo ThinkPad W520

Solved!

Go to Solution.

Answer:TPM triggers request for key although no hardware has been changed.

Go to BIOS F1 setup, Startup menu, Boot.
What is your boot order?
Best practice for bitlocker, is to remove every device from the boot order that you don't use, and put the HDD at the very top of the boot order.

#1 cause for unexpected bitlocker recovery prompts is not having the HDD at the top of the boot order.

If you changed your hardware configuration or BIOS version recently, then bitlocker will prompt at every boot (by design).  To fix this you need to suspend/resume bitlocker protection in the bitlocker control panel.

Hi guys,

Pretty new to Excel really, know the basic stuff but the intermediate stuff is beyond me for now. Hence this post.

What I want to do is this:

Have a field on my spreadsheet that contains a fixed date say 06/06/2008 and this cell would be green or a cell next to it would be green.

Now as the date reaches say 28 days in the future, so 04/07/2008 I want the colour to change to red.

Is this possible and if so, how do I do it???

Thanks,

Hello there,

So recently I got into racing games and the best way to play them is with a controller (which has pressure sensitive triggers and analogue sticks). The gamepad I have is this one:
http://genesis-zone.com/en/product/p44-limited-gamepad-2/

It says the following:
P44 Gamepad has analog triggers, which can allow to control intensity of the trigger behavior, same was as it works in original PS3 Gamepad.

However in games it R2 and L2 triggers only work as a button (digital), thus I cannot control the intensity of the brakes and throttle as I want.

I have downloaded the drivers from the manufacturer's website.
I tried pressing the analog buttonon my gamepad, which switches the light on but no effect.
I also tried checking the R2 and L2 values on the Xinput, and as I press them they rise immediately from 0 to 255.

Is there any way to make the triggers analog or maybe I'm just missing something simple?

Thanks in advance.

I have a lot of macros in Word 2003, and I was thinking that there must be a way to list them all, together with their triggers. Word has a way of making the triggers vanish at the drop of a hat, which forces me to add them again one by one. This would be much easier if I could see them in a list.

Does anyone know a way to accomplish this?

Would it be better if I just did a complete reinstall of windows XP ?

Just allow it to reactivate over the web, it takes about 5 seconds.

Its unusual for a modem change to initiate it, but a network card will often do so.

I'm trying to find out what triggers a pass the ticket alert.   We have a case where a user logged in with another user's credentials on a different
computer over vpn at the same time that user was on campus and a pass the ticket alert was triggered.  Is the alert triggered when an exact TGT with the exact hashes and exact sessions are seen on a different computer?  Or is it some
other trigger?
In other words: is this an indication that the other user installed malware to steal the ticket from a user's computer and then use the
Kerberos ticket to log into vpn and ATA saw an exact duplicate ticket with the same hashes and sessions?
This seems very unlikely because the other user would have had to use the Kerberos ticket to log into VPN, which first communicates with a radius
server (no Kerberos ticket used at this point) before it communicates with the DCs.  So the other user probably had a username and password already, and if that were true, why use a stolen Kerberos ticket that will trigger alerts when one could just get
a new one when logging in.  it doesn?t seem to make sense for this to be the case.
Or does ATA see the same username in a different subnet at the same time and assume that the ticket was stolen without verifying that the tickets
are exactly the same?
Or is there some mechanism built into Kerberos that forwards copies of Kerberos tickets to the same user whe... Read more

Hello,
I am a Girl Scout leader. Our cookie baker has developed a website where older girls can enter the email addresses of friends and neighbors, and send them an ecard in which they can click on an imbedded link to send in a cookie order.

Unfortunately, when I tested this by sending it to myself, the ecard went to my Junk Mail folder when I had the filter option set to High (when it is set to Low, the ecard does go to my inbox).

How can we determine what it is about the ecard that is triggering the Junk Mail filter when it is set to high, in order to modify it so that it does not trigger the junk mail filter? I am hoping that this can be done by modifiying the subject line or graphics etc. Since the ecard comes via the bakers email address - [email protected]
it's not an issue that could be resolved by the recipients safe sender list.

thanks

Junk mail is selected in primarily 2 ways. The first is the sender. Some addresses are known to send spam. They go to junk mail. Putting these on the safe list would work.

The second and the primary way. Is certain words or phrases. For example "So act now", etc. For only $2.99 may be another.

I don't know how I did it, actually I do.. I thought I was deleting the history in the task scheduler for the automatic creation of restore points. As it turns out, I deleted the triggers. Both the one that launches a restore point creation once a day and the one that creates a restore point at system startup.

Is there a guide on how to recreate the triggers. I fooled around with it but no joy.

The very first thing I tried to do was a system restore but that failed for some reason.

Answer:Deleted System Restore Triggers

Maybe if you turn system protection off for your drive, and then turn it back on Vista will rebuild the triggers for you?

Winkey+Pause/Break key to open 'System' or Control Panel->System and Mantenance->SystemIn the left pane, click System Protection. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.Turn off System Protection for each hard disk by clearing the check box next to the disk, and then click OKRestart [not sure if this is necessary, but jic]Turn on System Protection for each hard disk by selecting the check box next to the disk, and then click OK.Did this help?

Hello,
I am looking for some assistance with Bitlocker and it's recovery mode triggering for strange reasons. I am new to using Bitlocker, and we are deploying it with Windows 7 Enterprise on the Dell Latitude E5470, with TPM 1.2.

Everything works great most of the time, but we have several instances where the battery dying or removing a laptop from a docking station, will trigger the Bitlocker recovery mode, and the only way to clear it is disabling/re-enabling Bitlocker entirely
(decrypt/re-encrypt) or removing either the RAM or CMOS battery, and performing a hardware reset.

Any suggestions or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

The notebook lid is still opened and i press on the release button of my docking station. Suddenly the notebook boots up again and tries to boot over PXE...Sounds like a **bleep**, doesn't it? Does anyone experience the same issues? Best regards, betatester

Hi all,

this morning my notebook was infected with Antimalware doctor.

Computer showed the usual malware screens and after a few seconds it autorebooted. Unless i forced it to safe mode, it continued to show it and reboot.

On safe mode i activated a full sweep with Webroot Internet Security Essentials. It did find the malware and removed it.

On next reboot, the malware apparently disappeared, no more malware screens and the fake antivirus program didn't show up anymore in Program -> Files and on Install / Uninstall panel. Problem is that since removal a BSOD appears (IRQL_not_less_or_equal) and computer reboots. Blue screen appears almost after all programs set to launch at reboot are loaded and if i'm right at the time where internet connection should be activated.

BTW I also scanned computer with malwarebyte's antimalware as suggested but it did find the computer clean. Finally i runned a registry fix program but nothing has changed.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hello:
I too was infected with that virus that redirects the browser to a different site, before it has a chance to go to the correct one. I ran MS safety scan and found some java associated viruses, that safety scan removed. I also removed Java, and got a new edition.
When I try to use In Private Browsing, and click the search, it adds %20 between the words, causing IE to not connect to the web page, I tried typing "Bleeping Computer" in the In Private search box, clicked "search" and it changed to %20Bleeping%20Computer%20. Then got the "IE cannot display the webpage" notification. In the "more information" box, I got "does not appear to be valid address." Well, Do Tell !
I guess one of the "innards" directions was changed, by the virus, or the repair/removal.

Emsi Software, provider of the a-squared Anti-Malware 4.0 protection software, warns of a new type of virus attack that, up to now, has only been used in the USA. In this case, after returning from shopping, drivers find a parking ticket on their windscreen. The drivers are then supposed to fetch the details of the illegal parking, and the penalties incurred, from a particular website. Drivers who actually follow the printed link are then promptly attacked and receive new Malware on their PCs. Hey all

Please can someone help me solve this riddle!

I have a ComboBox embedded in an excel workbook. I have set up the click event for the combobox to run some code which populates various cells in excel.

The weird thing is that every time i try and "Save As" with the excel workbook, it automatically triggers the click event thus populating the excel cells without me wanting this to occur.

I have searched all my code and cant see any sort of link between "Saving As" and the combo box. This is so weird!!

Thnx a lot

Hello
We have Outlook 2010 and Office365 (no longer using Exchange server). We have a Leave calendar setup as a resource. Currently an employee sends a leave request email to his/her supervisor and the supervisor puts it on the calendar.

I want the employee to put the leave request on the calendar as an appointment, that to trigger (by employee name), an email to his/her supervisor that a request has been made on the calendar. The supervisor can approve the request from the email but also have the ability to modify the placement of the time slot if needed.

Modifying the timeslot allows each supervisor to place the requested time in its rightful slot in case the employee is negligent in doing so. I have not found a rule that will allow this, so Im guessing it needs to be programmed.
Any and all help is very much appreciated.

Thank you.

Hi, all.A few days ago, I was unfortunate enough to receive the Advanced Virus Remover virus / scare-ware. I finally got rid of it with Malwarebytes, but now I cannot run the CHKDSK utility. FSUtil says that my volume is dirty but does not run auto-check upon reboot. When I try CHKDSK /F from console, it states 'Cannot open volume for direct access.' Trying to use the Recover Console, I get BSOD telling me to run CHKDSK /F and noting: STOP 0x0000007B (0xF78D2524, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000) I've also tried CHKNTFS /C and I get 'Cannot query state of drive C:'Any ideas? This is driving me crazy!C

Answer:CHKDSK will NOT run; Recovery Console triggers BSOD..

First, the correct command from the Recovery Console is chkdsk /r. Second, Malware Bytes is not an anti-virus utility. Do you have an AV installed and if so, did you run a full scan with that? Last, are you sure you are booting to the Recovery Console? It's VERY rare to get a blue screen from within the recovery console.

Sometimes on the restart it goes BSOD again, sometimes it starts up just fine. Once Windows is up and running, I have no problems with it. One of two bizarre hardware questions. I get the most obscure requests all the time and I really try hard to find a way to accomodate them.

Today's request part one of two:

In a large warehouse, the staff has asked if there is some sort of device that will alert them when a pick ticket prints. The current config is an okidata dot printer on a networked print server. They want a buzzer or a bell or a flashing light - something that will tell them that they need to get a ticket and pull it. I'm not finding anything.

Answer:Print job triggers a buzzer, bell or light?

I'd say use an IR door alarm, one like stores use. It is an IR projector that reflects off what looks like a bike reflector. Mount it above the printer & the reflector in the tray so the paper breaks the beam & the alarm sounds.
Or any IR door alarm like that may work.

A friend of mine has several pc`s, just like the rest of us these days... He regularly visits a website, cyclingdirt.org, and when he does this from one of his pcs, *win7 64, via firefox*, the webpage loads slowly, and triggers a MSE scan. None of my pc`s do this under the same conditions, and neither do any of his other pcs.

Thoughts???

Answer:Cyclingdirt.org triggers MSE scan every time its accessed.

I've just checked out the given link in Firefox with my laptop with MSE also installed and none of the said scan appeared eventually. Let him download this on the said computer.Download SecurityCheck.exe from Here. Run SecurityCheck and follow the instruction from inside the code box.. Hi everyone, I have a pretty weird tech problem.

What happens is, whenever I adjust my monitor's brightness (from its physical buttons) the screen turns black. However the monitor is still on, the LED is still green and the computer is still responsive, the screen just turns black.

I can use the computer just fine, as long as I don't try to adjust anything. If I do want to change something, I have to change the values a little, then restart, change them again, restart until I have the values I want. This problem appeared when I tried to adjust the brightness by keeping the + button pressed down, so it increased quickly.

Is this indicative of a dying monitor ? It is pretty old, it's an LG L1750SQ, 17 inch LCD, it's over 4 years old. Also, I do not believe the video card to the problem, since it stays pretty cool, it has a good heatsink on it.

Hi,
It was recommended I start a thread here. When the computer needs to search for new drivers, as soon as it shows "Found New Hardware" this triggers "Services.exe" to use up 100% CPU. My computer was previously infected with the .jnana trojan but since has been cleaned, including the hidden ".jnana" folder. I'm currently using Avira Antivirus. My computer works fine, its only when I try to install new hardware that this happens.

Here are my previous posts:
"I'm experiencing some problems with connecting some of the USB devices all of a sudden. I am using an Emachines T3256. The other day I moved the computer and unplugged everything. When I went to plug in the USB 2.0 hub, as soon as it says "Found New Hardware" the computer slows down, I can't pull up the task manager or load anything else on the computer. When I unplug the device its still slow and I have to just hit the shut down button because I can't even get it to shut down. Shortly before this, I had a trojan and it messed up a lot of stuff on the computer. Apparently it was on the computer for a few months, and I noticed there were files randomly being corrupted all over. Took me about a week to find the source of the trojan and properly delete it. The same day I fixed it was when I moved the computer and this problem started. I did a check disk/repaired errors, registry clean, system file check, etc...

I renamed one playlist on iTunes, and created a new one that contained already downloaded songs. These are all the changes I made, but when I sync my iPod, the newly renamed list shows with its new name, yet the new playlist does not, no matter what I name it or how many times I try, disconnect, retry, etc.

So I tried to update the version of iTunes on my laptop to 11.2.2. Comodo is balking at the DifXInst32.exe file, in both the firewall and defense alerts. This made me concerned, and no search here or on the internet in general turns up any definitive good/evil judgment.

But... in the time it took me to get create this message, my Comodo pop-ups, which I deliberately left open (since I didn't know whether to allow or deny them) have gone away, and now the installation says the software has successfully installed.

I hope this is all a good thing, but if anyone knows that it may be a bad thing, please holler quick!

Comodo, like other AV/firewall software, will have false positives. You should go into Quarantine from the dashboard in the upper right, right click on the file(s) and choose Submit then Restore/allow and add it to your white list.

I describe my t460s case, but the problem affects other systems as well. It seems that Embedded Controller Program (ECP) firmware revision 1.10 triggers some bug in Linux kernels starting from 4.9 series: the problem is that sometimes after suspend a sensor gives wrong temperature (stuck at 48C) and the fan goes on indefinitely, see this bugRevision 1.9 instead works fine with every kernel. Is it possible to communicate with someone in charge of this ECP, to look at changelog from previous version, and try to understand what is the issue with the new one?

Hi all,

I've started to regularly received bsod errors on this laptop. They occurred infrequently at first, then have regularly happened on a daily basis for the past month. In terms of scale, sometimes the system can run for a few hours, sometimes it bsod on startup. (always error code x124).

The BSOD have been triggered by a number of different things, but not all necessarily trigger the bsod. Startup, youtube, videos, games, opening pdf or browsers, photo and video editing.

I've very limited knowledge and have been lurking on these forums for a month trying various suggestions but have come to seek advice. I've performed a memory test which came up clean. Admittedly though, I only ran it for two cycles. I've used CCleaner, updated all driver information, opened the laptop to check for obvious bad connections, hoovered parts and have a desktop fan blowing on the vent for the graphics card.

I'm attaching the event log

Please if someone could give me some advice as I'm reaching the end of ideas.

I removed a virus from a laptop yesterday and everything sees to be working like it should except I get a runDLL error.

It says:
There was a problem starting C:\Users\AppData\Local\ARCADE~1\AgHelp.dll
The specified module could not be found.
The error seems to show up when I start certain programs. Is there a way to find out what program is trying to use this dll?
Thanks a lot,
Eric

Answer:How do you find the program that triggers a runDLL error?

I would say that its linked to the AppInitDLL entry in the Registry, but without checking for myself I can't really say. How did you remove that malware exactly? Also, the system could still be infected if you didn't do an thorough malware removal clean up.
