CCleaner Frree or paid for version?

Question: CCleaner Frree or paid for version?

I have been using CCleaner (free version) for many years and because I relied on it for all of that time feel that I should upgrade to the paid-for version.
What are the benefits of upgrading CCleaner?

Preferred Solution: CCleaner Frree or paid for version?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: CCleaner Frree or paid for version?

The program is exactly the same - but you can get technical support for the program with the Pro version.

I just tried out CCleaner, free version, and it did a great job of cleaning out all the crap in my Win 7 install. After that, I was finally able to upgrade to Win 10. So I'm wondering if the PRO version is even better.

Why do you use the PRO version?

Thanks.

Answer:Do you use the PAID version of CCleaner? Why?

The "Pro" just includes support from Piriform. Stay with free

hello,

Bitdefender Free has the same protection technologies that its paid version? The efficiency of the free version is same as the paid version?

Answer:The efficiency of the free version of Bitdefender Internet Security the same as the paid version?

I don't see why it wouldn't be, yes it has less features and is less configurable,
But you get the same award winning engine that powers the paid version.

Hi-I'm looking for some advice about anti virus software. In the past I've used avast & been quite satisfied but more recently received many recommendations to go the extra mile & install a paid version. I consulted 8 different techno-minded friends who gave me such conflicting advice I thought I'd go online for help. I'm using Vista on a brand new machine with 3gb of RAM. I installed NORTON 360 a month ago that caused so many dramas I was advised by those in the know that "everyone knows not to buy Norton! What were you thinking?!" .. I got the same drill about McAfee and a couple of other brands I thought were leaders of the pack..so I opted for a 2 year paid version of AVG8. This prog is telling me I've got a dozen trojans every time I scan & *now* I'm being advised by all my i.t expert mates to give this the flick too. Before I spend another couple of hundred bucks, has anyone got further advice for me? I've just wasted a lot of dough & any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm happy to fork out whatever it takes as long as I get something that *works*! Cheers!

Answer:AVG 8 (paid version) issues

Not much consolation to you, but I have always used paid for AVG, first ver7.5 and now ver 8 ( AV & Firewall) and have never had any problems at all.

I have been using the free version of this software for a while and am generally happy with it. i have used zonealarm, mcafee and norton in the past and to my liking this one serves me well. questions:
is the paid version that much better? i am annoyed that i can not schedule scans and updates and paid version provides that. also, i will need a 3 computer licence and i really need to put security on my home network. would the paid version provide for that?
when i had zone alarm i could not put the protection on the network because then the other computers could not get to the network. i also could not deal with zonealarm. it was way over my head.
your input is greatly appreciated. thank you

Answer:avg antivirus paid version - do you like it?

Yes, the paid version is better and it doesn't cost that much. They have a special at the moment. Its exactly what you need, 3 computer licence and for a period of 2 years. I also had the free version but it does not really protect you. The full version has the features - anti virus, spyware, spam, firewall, rootkit, mail scanner, link scanner, web shield, resident shield, ... Set up is very easy and managable. Just with some time of checking out what each feature does for you, you can set it up and leave it. Sometimes it is a bit annoying with its warnings but that too can be controlled.
I am very satisfied with the product. It only lags the system when it comes to a full system scan, but this is scheduled for once a week when I'm not busy with important work, like Saturday afternoon.
Verrrrrry Goooood.

Hi all,My Incredimail is stressing me out at the moment. It is closing frequently, it is not able to download a small number of legit. emails from the server when I use advanced account access.I am inclined to reinstall it, but am concerned about all my folders and the messages. Any ideas for this? The PC is clean otherwise.Your thoughts are welcomeNick

Answer:Incredimail (paid for version)

Incredimail is the work of the devil. Do your PC and all your contacts a favour and uninstall it and use a client that doesn't turn your email into eye-bleeding horrors. If you insist on continuing to use it, though, back up your data, and here Google is your friend: I found this page click here in about two seconds flat. And then uninstall and reinstall.

I bought a used Compaq running Win7 and am thinking about buying a firewall/av. In the past I used to use the free versions of (at different times) Zone Alarm & AVG. Been using a Mac for a few years so haven't kept up with things like that.

If you were going to actually purchase a full-scale package (not just use the freebies), which would you prefer between the two of those and why?

Or, if there is another purchased package brand (not named Norton or MacAfee), what would you recommend and why?

Thanks!

Answer:Which paid version prefer: AVG or ZA?

Hello, in my opinion out of paid security I would choose Avast or BitDefender because they seem to be very reliable and thorough. Out of AVG and Zone Alarm, again this is just my opinion, AVG wins hands down on detection out of the two. Hope this helps.

Does anyone have the paid version of MalwareBytes and if so, how is the updating? The reason I ask is apparently I've been spoiled with the virus programs, etc. automatically updating. I had been using the free version of SuperAntiSpyware and got tired of having to update it manually. I checked the settings, etc. and saw that with the paid version it would update at startup and every 8 hours. It had such good reviews so I trusted it and made the mistake of purchasing it. But, AFTER I had purchased it, I found out that if you're not online when it tries to update, you're out of luck. If you get an update, you have to do it manually. I had assumed it would try again if I wasn't online when it tried but I was wrong. How does the purchased version of MalwareBytes update work? Do I have to be online at the right time with it or if I'm not, will it try again later? I was no better off with the paid version of SuperAntiSpyware and I don't want to make that mistake again. Thanks for your time.

Lots of people will suggest no need to use paid for packages, however, as I'm not experienced with computers I'd rather have one package that updates and does everything without me having to ask / think.

Can I ask experienced members, which of the paid for versions offers the best protection at the best price, at the moment I'm using Norton, but it's expensive to renew.

I've looked at Kaspersky, but that seems just as expensive, avast is even more expensive, maybe if anyone had a code I could use that wil bring the price down I'd be very grateful, the important aspect is tho is knowing which one to choose.

Answer:The paid version of malware bytes

Have heard the real time protection is pretty good. But can generate some pop-ups that may be confusing to some. It acts as a bit of a firewall too. It will show blocked intrusion attempts from known questionable IP`s, possibly whole Domains. This is going on second hand info from people I know who use the paid version.Hoping someone will chime in who use`s the full version.

I chatted with them about this and it turns out that a long time back I downloaded the free version of Malwarebytes on this computer which had the premium features(but I don't recall that), and she said you can't get a second trial. So I have to buy it. A friend of mine loves Malwarebytes because of all the malicious websites it alerts him to. He has never seen a piece of software do anything like this. MANY malicious websites he thought were okay were identified and avoided. I think this is an extremely good feature to purchase Malwarebytes, for this feature alone, not to mention all the other things it does in this dangerous Internet we live in and have to protect ourselves from. So I have decided to purchase the latest version for two computers. Not bad price, $25 a computer for a year for this kind of protection. I myself over the years have downloaded MANY malware software and never seen ONE that alerted me to malicious websites. I don't know what it is in Malwarebytes that they are able to pick this up on so many bad sites out there. Do you know of any comparable anti-malware software that compares to Malwarebytes as far as alerting you to malicious and dangerous websites, not to mention everything else it does? Would you recommend any other anti-malware software in addition to Malwarebytes? I don't know of any. What overall is your opinion of Malwarebytes, if you use the Premium version. I am sold on it, but would like to hear of some ... Read more

For several days now, I've seen the words 'IPB image' in posts here instead of the picture in several places including Scarlet's signature. Other pictures show up just fine.

I right clicked on the words and was given the option to view the image. A new tab popped up, and then I saw "ad blocked by KPF." So now I knew that the firewall was blocking those images from appearing and identifying them as ads.

Unlike ZoneAlarm's ad-blocking settings which can be set for each site, Ad-blocking in the Kerio Firewall cannot be adjusted on a site by site basis; it's either on or off. Clicking on the 'set' button in the Kerio Firewall adblocking tab, a window pops up with a list of all the blocked ad types. Does anyone know which of these to allow in order to view the IPB images on Bleeping computer? The only option that I have discovered that works thus far is to stop the ad-blocking completely, but since I navigate to other sites when reading posts or articles on this site, I'm leery of doing that even though my default settings block all scripts.

Answer:Kerio Firewall Paid Version

I managed to solve the problem by clicking on the Set button on the Ad-blocking tab and removing the check marks in front of these two entries:.*/banners.*.*/banners/.*Orange Blossom

Our desktop is a work/play computer that we installed Avast on thinking that it would be better than a "free" program, and I have had the free avast in the past and thought it worked OK (yeah, this has been a few years ago), so when we thought about getting a paid program we went with it.

Except.

I paid for avast and it's always trying to sell me some upgrade or another. It's like a giant advertisement and it doesn't feel like it's really doing anything. Every feature I try to click on outside of the scan is "you need to buy X" to get it to do anything.

What other program is recommended? And why is it so hard to pick one and be loyal to them? I'd like something that just works and isn't trying to constantly up-sell me.

The operating system is Microsoft Windows XP Professional, version 2002 and Service Pack 2.

I changed over to the paid AVG Internet Security 8.0 build 93 (5/5/2008) from the free AVG 7.5. I have received my new license number via internet, and downloaded the software to my Desktop. AVG 7.5 was uninstalled as well as all the other anti-virus/security product on my computer. To my knowledge, there is nothing of the above products left on the PC.

When I try to install AVG 8.0, the following keeps coming up “Another anti-virus/security product is currently installed on this computer….. Please remove it before installing AVG 8.0” I really cannot find any thing else on the PC. In the end I ignored the above warning and carried on with the installation. The next notice came up “INSTALLATION FAILED! 1 error and 11 warnings occurred”. It do not allow me to complete the installation.

I have notified AVG Technical Support twice about this problem but up to now they did not reply to my query.

I do not have any anti-virus protection since 24th May 2008.

Please can somebody help me?
Hanre

Answer:AVG 8.0 paid version - Installation Problem

Put the names of your previous security programs one by one into Start>Search>Files and folders. This should bring up any remnants of them.

I do this every time I remove a program regardless of the porocedure.

I just installed "eight" with no trouble. Actually it found "7.5" on my system and removed it automatically during the installation.

Sounds like you were scammed. Since you already paid them, that payment is history. Call your bank or credit card company and see if there are any more payments scheduled and stop them if there are. There is an email form here to fill out, but I wouldn't expect an answer from them. Supposedly there is a 60 day money back guarantee. Did you "fully" remove Norton 360, using it's "Removal Tool" downloaded from the Symantec website, before installing AVG?The residual presence of Norton 360, or any other AV for that matter, on a PC when a new AV is installed would be likely to produce just such an effect.

Answer:New antivirus (paid version), please advice

Hello @userone,

For your Antivirus product, I recommend you use ESET NOD32. Should you wish to have more protection features and have your AV and Firewall both in one product, then I certainly recommend ESET Smart Security (over using ESET NOD32 and then SpyShelter as your Firewall).

Based on my experience and testing, ESET has proven to show very low system impact, allowing you to get down to your everyday tasks without the feeling of a "slow" system. The web blocker is great, the PUP/PUA detection is great and they have good signatures in my opinion for detecting zero-day malware.

Should you chose ESET, I recommend configuring the HIPS on the product since I do not believe it is best at it's default and will not "provide good HIPS protection" if not configured. However, regardless of this, you can install and forget and ESET will still continue to happily protect you in the background.

Of course no vendor is perfect, however ESET would be a great choice and definitely in my top 3 recommendations list.

Another recommendation of mine would be Emsisoft Anti-Malware (I would rather the Internet Security over having SpyShelter installed). Emsisoft AM/IS is dual-engine based, meaning it has 2 engines. It uses their own engine (A squared), and the BitDefender engine. You can differentiate between which engine detected what through the detection name. For example, at the end of each detection there should be a (A) or a (B). If it's (A) then it... Read more

I like to use an old programme, that has not been supported or updated anymore for years: Memories on TV Pro 4.1.2 (paid version). Still, an excellent programme.
Under W7 after the initial registration, it worked for years without further registration.
Under W10, it asks me every month for the registration data. Then it works again for one month.
Registration takes place in the programme and accepted by the programme without connecting to the internet.
I uninstalled the programme and reinstalled again, to no avail.
Of course it is a minor trouble to insert the registration key on a monthly base, but I am wondering what W10 does what W7 did not do.

Answer:Monthly registration needed for paid version

I never understood why being in de administrator account, you sometimes have to start a programme by "run as administrator".
Doing that, and putting so your credentials, appeared to be the solution.

Answer:Why are Ads appearing in a paid version of Words with Friends?

Click remove ads and attempt to purchase again. Instead of "buy" showing at the bottom, it should show "download" and then above it, it should say that you've already purchased the item.

Is it worth it? I have the free version, but would love that real-time protection. Is it better than Windows Defender for Windows 7??

ty.

Answer:Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Paid Version

I recommend taking advantage of the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Protection Module which uses advanced heuristic scanning technology to monitor your system and provide real-time protection to prevent the installation of most new malware. This technology monitors every process and stops malicious processes before they can infect your computer. Enabling the Protection Module feature requires reqistration and purchase of a license key that includes free lifetime upgrades and support. After activation, Malwarebytes can be set to update itself and schedule scans automatically on a daily basis. The Protection Module is not intrusive as it utilizes few system resources and should not conflict with other scanners or anti-virus programs.

I have been happily using the free firewall software from zonealarm, which I like because it doesn't have a lot of pop ups - i find those things annoying. My friend said I should upgrade to the firewall pro - but I don't know if it's worth the money. The pro version from zonealarm is only $30 and it comes with antispywear and identity theft protection - but I'm still not sure why upgrading is necessary. Can someone please tell me if any of the features on the pro software are worth the upgrade:

ZoneAlarm Pro Firewall 2010: Web Security with Spyware Removal and Internet Firewall Protection Software

Answer:free firewall software vs. paid version?

Frankly, I find Windows Firewall completely and perfectly adequate and see no reason to use any 3rd party program (especially one you have to pay to get). Windows Firewall used with the proper security software - and there are excellent options that are all free if you want recommendations there - (as opposed to 3rd party commercial (paid) firewall software with features otherwise available), you can be very well (just as well) protected.

Although I didn't answer your question directly, I think you understand the meaning of the reply.

I hope this helps.

Good luck!

Just got a new computer w/XP Home. I downloaded a fresh copy of Pop-Up Stopper Free Version. (From Panicware.) Something's wrong - now I can't open my own files in windows (without disabling it). It's blocking my OWN windows from opening! JPG files mainly. But it's strange - some open okay, some are totally blocked - I can't figure out what makes them different. Confused! The free version offers nothing in the way of deciding what is blocked and what isn't, so there's nothing I can really do, except disable it.

It allows links on web pages to open just fine, without the Shift & Click routine. (Which I like.)

I'd like advice from anyone else who uses any of the Pop-Up Stopper (PAID) versions. I'd gladly purchase one of the paid versions of this if I can open my windows! But I want to be very sure that I won't end up with my windows continuing to be blocked.

Here's their website:

Thanks for any help/advice/recommendations.

Answer:which is the best avast anti virus paid version?

Hi quickslvr,

I have no experience with the paid version; however, I do have a great deal of experience with their free versions, and I can tell you that the free version provides adequate protection for most individuals. I have been using the free version since Avast 4 (or maybe even earlier) and I have never been infected. The beauty of Avast is you get the warnings "before" a website can infect your PC (it blocks the download and warns you to leave the website). Right now, I'm running on the newly released Avast 8.0.1482 and it is running without issue on both of my rigs. Now, if you are interested in their paid versions, I would strongly suggest you visit their forums and browse for problems because I really don't think they have worked all of the kinks out of them yet.

I was over visiting the Symantec site, & all of a sudden my FW/HIPS alerts me that something called Crogram Files\Windows Defender MPOAv.dll requests an outbound connection to DNS. I've got Windows Defender on board but disabled thru services as I use it as an on-demand Scanner. So I deny the request, and immediately following that I get a request for CCSvcHst (which is the Norton Engine) to access DNS (Which, according to the logs) happens all the freakin' time--all Norton update settings that I can find are set to disable, as I update manually). I've never had Windows Defender request a DNS connection since I've had it disabled (Auto Updates and BITS are disabled as well) but now that I'm using Norton on one image all of a sudden I get a Windows Defender request thru this MPOAv.dll. Is this DLL somehow tied in with Norton? and would Norton be using it so a user might unknowingly give it an outbound connection? thx.btw, I picked this up over on Google, so I guess it was Norton just trying to access DNS thru the MPOAv.dll.
There is a feature in Windows that allows applications to use a programmatic
interface called 'IOfficeAntivirus' to scan a file before opening it.

For example, your email program may initiate a scan of files sent as
attachments before launching them, to try and ensure they are safe.

Antivirus (and antispyware) scanners can register to be called via this
interface - the DLL in question is used by Windows Defender t... Read more

Hi,

I am trying to tie up some loose ends after having to execute a Clean Install of my Windows 10 Home last night because of corrupted files I couldn't fix any other way.

To make a long story short prior to the Clean Install I had a paid version of Microsoft Office 2013 Professional Plus on my PC and was using Outlook as my main email address for the last few years. While trying to determine what was causing my corrupted files (I couldn't download or install any Windows Cumulative Updates since Aug. 31) some folks thought that maybe my copy of Office 2013 could be part of my problem.

While 'nosing' around Google this morning I found what I would call a free 'light' version of 'Outlook.com' and downloaded and installed it. After logging into my Outlook account I am able to send and receive emails using my Outlook email address. However, I can find none of my contacts anywhere on the email page.

That really doesn't bother me that much because I have backups of many of the addresses. What I really want to do is find a way, if possible, to save this version of Outlook to my taskbar as I did my paid version. With my previous version when I received a letter a small envelope would appear on the Outlook icon on my Taskbar alerting me to incoming mail. Is that possible with this free 'light' version?

Right now I am trying to decide between Libre Office and Open Office to supply my Word and Power Point needs. But if at all possible I would like to keep the sa... Read more

I recently installed this prog on a laptop - it works perfectly on my PC and I've been using it for a long time to record sound.

However I have just realised that on this laptop, whilst it seems to be recording, the files don't appear to be saved anywhere.

The program settings say the files should be saved in prog files/freecorder, and they're not there. I've searched to see if they're going elsewhere, but the system can't find them at all.

Has anyone else encountered this?

Answer:Solved: Freecorder (paid version) seems to be recording but not saving files

NIS 2002 on one machine and NIS 2003 on the other machine. The paid annual coverage will be expiring next month. Never tried it but can a person manually download and install the virus updates from the Symantec site? Perhaps even now, the site checks my system before I download to be sure I am currently paid up. Just curious about this. I dread trying to remove NIS. And TIA.

I upgraded from the free version of AVG in 2013 and again in 2014 as the free version no longer included a firewall. I am 3 months away from renewal for 2015,. I received a message from AVG about yet another upgrade, a better version for 2015, renew now. I thought I should ask the techies on Tom's guide first. Does anyone know if this will really be better? Also I am used to the graphics. The advert says it is "clearer" but I might not get on with that.I need all the help I can get as I still have Win XP, on an old HP Pavilion. I cannot upgrade to Win 8 on this old PC, for example. Therefore I think the anti-virus is important.I'd be grateful for any comments, please. I cannot afford new equipment (am retired). I do not use the PC for banking, music, games. Thanks. message edited by beetroot

Answer:Is it worth to upgrade AVG anti-virus package, paid version?

I have used the paid version of AVG for many years now, and i love it. They improved the GUI from the older versions from late 2013 and have made more and more improvements to it to date. From the many years i have used AVG what i can tell you is that my machine has become less and less infected over the years, it is not solely down to having AVG but it has helped considerably. To answer your question about will it actually be better, well i dont think it will be any worse than what you have right now, however being a beta version there may be bugs that will hinder your user experience, i personaly dont like beta version because they are still in the 'development' phase and will have many bugs. If i were you id wait until your current subsciption expires and then renew online, it only take a few minutes so you dont have to rush and renew now.

Hi there.
I've recently had STOPzilla downloaded but only the free trial. I've been told by many people that it's not very good and comes up with fake viruses to get you to buy it. However, I recently had an infection with 3AE.exe and the three trojans it's coming up with are supposedly related to 3AE.exe, even though I've had it removed.

So do you think I should keep the STOPzilla free trial or is it just malware? I also have McAfee, do you think McAfee is good? Because I have started to doubt it recently.
I have also tried MalwareBytes and Superantispyware as well, would you recommend I continue using them?

If you know of any good antivirus/antispyware programs, preferably free, ha, (though if you think a paid one is really good then please do say so), can you please tell me? It would be much appreciated.

Thank you, and if this really helps, I have Windows Vista Home Premium.

Answer:Is STOPzilla (free trial) and McAfee (paid version) any good?

You ask a common question for which you will receive varying opinions and recommendations. There is no universal "one size fits all" solution that works for everyone and there is no best anti-virus. Please see Choosing an Anti-Virus Program. After reading that, scroll down and read Supplementing your Anti-Virus Program with Anti-Malware Tools.

Answer:ccleaner new version

A good way is to leave default, except do not allow any registry changes; but here are my settings.
I have reasons not to leave default. You may want to leave the default and make changes slowly if the results are not to your liking. Just be sure not to allow changes to registry. Although Cc is considered safe, I do not feel registry changes are necessary, does little good, but may cause problems.
