firefox 6 google homepage slow to load

Question: firefox 6 google homepage slow to load

I use google.co.uk/firefox as my browser homepage. On initial start-up it usually takes about 15 seconds to load, and then gets quicker - just 2 seconds. But if I keep closing the browser to do other work and then open Firefox again, it often takes up to 25 seconds to load the homepage from then on until the end of the session. Is there any reason for this, and can it be avoided?
I should add that the speed of loading web pages is not affected by the slow loading of the home page.
Thanks in advance for any tips.

Preferred Solution: firefox 6 google homepage slow to load

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: firefox 6 google homepage slow to load

The slow loading of FF is often related to issues with your FF profile.
Try downloading and running (no installation necessary) Speedyfox enter link description here
to tidy up your Firefox profile.
It may help speed things up a bit.

Most of the time when I start up firefox it takes an abnormally long time to load and then will say "server not found". The home page is set to google and is typed in properly. My computer is connected to the internet and is not using a proxy. Yes my computer is protected by a firewall but it shouldn't be blocking Google

Internet explorer does do the same thing but not as often.

Is there anything I can do to fix this?

Answer:firefox frequently does not load google homepage

If Google is also your Search Engine it loads faster.

Posting this from my work machine as I am having issues from home. This started recently that when I open a new Firefox window, it takes about 20 - 30 seconds before I see anything load for the initial or homepage (Yahoo). If I click the X to stop the load and type in a specific URL or select one from my favorites, it loads almost immediately. I tried uninstalling and then reinstalling Firefox to see if that would fix it, but no joy. When I did that, I did NOT delete my user information. Not sure if that makes a difference.

So, then I went to post a question here, it takes 20-30 seconds and then I get the following error message:

Connection Interrupted

The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.

The network link was interrupted while negotiating a connection. Please try again.

Any ideas? HJT log below.

Hi

First post here - hope someone can help. I'm a frequent pc user but not particularly technical.

My problem is that when I first lauch internet exlorer (IE6) it takes at least one or two minutes to find my homepage.(Google). Everything is fine and quick after that.

I'm using XP Pro and running Norton Sytemworks, Spysweeper and Zonealarms Pro but with these running it used to load my homepage quickly without problems.

It could be coincidence but the problem started to happen about the same time that our local telephone exchange was upgraded which allowed me an increase in connection speed.

Getting really frustrated with it - please help if poss.

I have been having issues lately with Firefox homepage (Yahoo) taking 20-30 seconds to load. It seems stalled in the progress bar and then all of the sudden loads after that pause. If I stop that load and select a URL from my favorites, it loads fairly quickly. I tried to post a HJT log at another site I have used in the past and I am unable to due to a failure.

Connection Interrupted

The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.

The network link was interrupted while negotiating a connection. Please try again.

I have tried running various clean tools to no avail. They don't find anything, but no improvement either. Can someone please take a look?

Google Chrome has become slow to load and then it is very slow loading web pages and navigating round web sites.
From previous experience I thought this may be due to a virus but Malwarebytes has found nothing.
Can you help please.
Hope this is in the right place-if not please advise.

Noticed 2 instances of msiexec.exe running in Task Manager.
Googled this and found that if genuine it is part of Windows installer
but can also be a virus.
Did a search and found MSIEXEC.EXE-2F8A8CAE.pf
Googled this and found it is probably Malware.
If so can you help me get rid of it please

I run both IE 8 and Firefox on my Dell Dimension system. I'm having problems now with both browsers taking forever to load. This may be a virus or network problem. IE 8 just loaded now after 15 minutes (exactly - I timed it).

Details:
- Once it's loaded once, both browsers load in normal amounts of time.
- I haven't downloaded any new add-ons lately unless one browser or the other installed one in the background.
- The problem just started today after a reboot.
- I've also noticed that my network icon in the taskbar doesn't show up anymore when I first boot but by the time IE opens, it has showed up.
- Using ipconfig, I did determine that I am on the network and connected immediately after boot up (router also shows me connected immediately).
- I've tried running IE from the command line with iexplore.exe -extoff. It didn't make any difference. I don't know if this works with IE 8 though.
- When I click to open either web browser, the process shows up right away in Task Manager and remains.
- I have all the latest updates to both browsers that I know of.
- I've run a complete system scan with McAfee (fully updated as of today.)

Now I've run out of ideas on what to try. I appreciate any help!

Thanks!
Alec

I have a Dell computer running Windows VIsta. When I open up Google Chrome I do not get to the homepage that I have set as my homepage. I get a page that shows You Tube, Gmail, google search and Chrome store. When I go to settings to set the homepage it shows that it is there. However when I click on the Home button I get the same page.

Also the page is very slow to open besides not getting to my homepage that I have set. I recently ran Spybot because my husband updated flash player and there was some junk there that I was able to get rid of. I also uninstalled Flash player plugin and reinstalled. Still have the same problem

Any suggestions?

I tried updating Firefox the other day and for some reason it utilized BitComet to do so. I believe something attacked my computer b/c since then it's been nothing but headaches. At first, Firefox would load it's homepage as "google.atcomet.com/b/" or just not load at all. I tried uninstalling and resinstalling Firefox, to no avail. So I ultimately removed it. I tried d/ling Google Chrome to see if that would work and it didn't. I found that through my internet options the "use proxy server" box was checked and I unchecked that and Google Chrome works now, but barely. It's sooo slow. I can't even download any programs to further help this process b/c they all start downloading ridiculously slow and time out. I have used several antivirus type programs (AVG, Spybot, Malwarebytes) and while they periodically find something, it's usually not threatening. I had trouble getting Hijack This to produce a log file as my computer was prompting me I don't have admin privileges, though I do. I clicked on a link on a news site, and instantly my computer slowed way down. I closed Firefox, and reopened and the homepage had changed, and a separate tab opened saying "Hellow". Anytime I tried to open anything, I got alot of "Not Responding", and it was very slow to open stuff. When I tried to use my google search box, it would be redirected to another site. Right now, my homepage is normal, but a third page/ tab opens to ad sites. I ran AVG and it found a Trojan that it removed, but nothing changed. I then tried to run MalwareBytes, and it ran slow and about every 10 seconds it would freeze up and show "Not Responding", then run for 10 seconds etc. I stopped it and downloaded SuperAntispyware and it is still running but has found 100 items-
Trojan.SDCard
Trojan.OpenGLSS
Trojan.MMLogon
Trojan.CDSC63R
Adware.TrackingCookie and
PUP.StartNow Toolbar 84 items

Its still running, but when its thru, what should I do? I read thru other threads, and I thought about running RKill, then SuperAnti and MalwareBytes again. Is that the right thing to do?

Thanks!

I have a strange issue where every webpage (whether via Firefox 3.5.2 or IE8) will always load slower on my Windows 7 system as compared to my Macbook Pro.

Both computers are wirelessly connected. I've ran speedtests on both systems, and both come out the same -
5.75 Mb/s (down)
.95 Mb/s (up)
22ms latency

But, for some reason, on the Windows 7 system, it always takes longer to open up webpages - usually by about 1-2 seconds, and sometimes by 5-7 seconds.

On the Macbook, some images and text will almost immediately appear, then fill in very quickly. On the Windows 7 system, I'll have a blank screen for a second or two, and then the images and text fill in slowly. If I were to venture a guess, on average, I think the Windows 7 machine renders pages at 80% the overall speed as the Macbook Pro.

Any idea what it could be? (I tried changing the pipelining values in Firefox and the initialpaint.delay value to 0, but it makes no difference.)

Hi,
This problem just started yesterday. We have a desktop and laptop. Both run IE7. We can't get to google on either computer. I downloaded firefox on the laptop and still can't load google. We can't use the little google search box either. I don't know if this matters or not but we ran cleanup on both computers over the weekend and on Monday for regular maintenance. I think there are a few other pages not loading but can't think of them right now.
Thanks,
Melanie

In the last month or two, I've been unable to use http://www.google.com/ as my homepage. It connects, but then hangs and fails to load. I can use the google newshttp://news.google.com/news?ned=us just fine.

If I click on the Web button while on the google news page, it attempts to load the google.com page and fails.

However, if I first run a search in google news, then click the Web button (which automatically runs the same search on google.com), it works immediately.

Google.com works just fine in Windows Internet Explorer, but I prefer Firefox.

Yahoo.com works just fine in Firefox, but I prefer google.

I've cleaned cache, cleaned cookies, restarted, pinged google.com successfully, turned off my Norton firewall, tried a direct connection past my router.

Answer:google.com won't load in firefox 2.0

Hi,

Can you get to any of the other google country specific sites. I would recommend that you try to reach google.ca and see if you are able to. This will help me to figure out if it is all the google search engines of just google.com. Until we get this figured out I would like you to turn your firewall back on. A firewall is a very integral part of security for your computer.

Cheers!

I'm experiencing this problem when I search for images on google, only some of the images appear in search result while on IE all images load. And also when i was using the edit option on Photobucket on firefox, the image was reduce and when i tried to enlarge it I can't see the full image unlike on IE. I'm not sure how to explain it but those issues I mentioned above didn't happen before when I was using firefox. I thought  NoScript add on that I have on firefox might have block something but that doesnt seem to be the case when i disable it. So if anyone have any clue then Im really appreciated. I screen shot the issues so you can understand better. Thanks in advance [recovering disk space - old attachment deleted by admin]

I am running the latest version of Firefox and have used "about:config" to speed it up, which it has. However Google seems to be taking an age to load each page. I am running Windows XP and my network security is Zone Alarm by Checkpoint. Any ideas as to what is wrong??!! and how I can improve the performance of Google.
Many thanks

Firefox can't load some websites but other browsers can. when type in the website on the browser and press Enter the browser stay on the same page and when i click reload it loads the page i was on.

I CANT SEEM TO ACCESS google and its search engine, youtube, and facebook..
so i tried to see if my extensions were messed up but it wasnt.
i tried to do as much as i know and firefox forum suggested it might be a malware

Answer:Firefox can't load Google/youtube/FB but other browsers can

Try this, open up command prompt(cmd)on run box for XP or type cmd in Vista/Win 7 system on your search programs and files box. Type ipconfig /flushdns and hit Enter. Try launching your Firefox browser and then check the difference. There will be a space between g and /.

Since... some Days yet, I have the Problem of my Firefox [v3.6.16] not loading the Start Page sometimes.

So, I start Firefox, get a blank Page instead of Google [happens quite often], and in the lower left Corner it says 'finished'!
[Or is it 'ready' in English...?]

It did do this just on Start of Firefox - when clicking on my Start Page Button, pressing F5, or just hitting Enter in the Adress Bar again, Google will load properly. But not upon Start, sometimes!
It's driving me Nuts!

Is there any other Way to solve this other than...
A), delete the whole User Profile Folder and lose all Extensions and their Settings
B), re-install Firefox and all of its Extensions + Settings
C), get Firefox v4.0 [don't think I couold use all of my Extensions/Themes there]
D), get another Browser?

Like, which File could I import from another Profile to fix this without losing my current one...?
I have Emsisoft Anti Malware installed, every Malware/Spyware/Trojan/Virus/Worm will be detected [Behavior Scanner reports even the slightest Change in Files like the Host File], it worked every Time yet, and Scan didn't achieve any Results but 5 Trace.Tracking Cookies.
Plus, upon re-loading the Page, it DOES work, after all.

URLs it has happened with, yet:
Startseite von Mozilla Firefox
Mozilla Firefox Start Page

Answer:[Firefox] First Page [Google] doesn't load!

Extensions will work, even older ones will work if you disable compatibility check

I have this nasty redirect issue and have no clue how to remove it. Below is a copy of my DDS log. Basically whenever I type in a google search and I click on the link I am redirected to a different search page or a different product. About a week ago I got a Window Defender virus or something and I used system restore to go back to an earlier date. Skype will not load nor will Chrome.

GMER crashes when I try to run it.

My Firefox 3.6 is slow to load when i first try to open it. Other times it is really good. I`m on Windows XP Home Edition service pack 3. Any clues please?

Answer:Firefox slow to load on first try

How many addons are installed and enabled? Any new ones?

Do you have Firefox set to open a single blank tab when you start, or are you using the session manager that reopens all the tabs from your last browsing session?

Do you have any other programs running when you open Firefox?

Do you have the setting to 'clear history when Firefox closes' enabled in Tools > Options > Privacy?

When you close Firefox, does it minimize to the system tray (this is an option enabled by using an addon) or does it close properly (no firefox.exe in Task Manager)?

My Acer 3002LC laptop isn't particulary fast, but Firefox 2 take a very long time to load. I've used "Fire-tune". Does anyone have any other ideas as to how to improve its performance?

I attach a "Hijack" log for interest.

Thanks.

try fasterfox....

there is also a guide to speed up firefox manually here

you can also change/increase the amount of memory/ram that firefox can use....this would be based on how much memory you have installed

I use Windows 7 on a Dell Inspiron laptop, and have had problems getting Firefox to load. I was advised on another forum to uninstall Firefox, reinstall to Firefox (Firefox 25) and make sure all the administrator boxes were unchecked. I've done this, but it still takes Firefox at least a minute to come up after I connect to the internet and click on the Firefox icon. If I right click on Troubleshoot Compatibilities, I get a long message that has something to do with Games Legacy Hangs and a lot of + signs. Of course, I cannot get this message to come now to paste into this email. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I'm running Firefox 3.6.3 on Windows XP Home Edition.

It used to load OK, although it was never sparklingly fast. Lately it has slowed dramatically and takes a minute or sometimes 2 to load up. I've tried clearing the cache, but it made no difference. Once it is loaded it is OK.

I'd be grateful for any suggestions about what might be the problem.

After my computer has been off all night, my first boot up in the morning always leads to both FF and WLM taking an inordinately long time to load. However after the first time, subsequent load ups are normal. Strangely, when I return in the evening and boot up again, everything's fine....despite the length of switch off being practically the same as the overnights time. Anyone any ideas?

In Firefox, go to Tools> Add-ons and disable all your extensions. Restart Firefox
and see if it loads faster. If it does, the re-enable each extension
(one at a time)
and restart Firefox each time until you find the extension causing the problem.

I am trying to access the following XML feed:

http://xml.pinnaclesports.com/xmlfeed.asp

But Firefox says it cannot load the live bookmark...

The top of the feed says this:

As of May 2nd, 2005 the User-Agent field of all HTTP-Headers must be set. Any string will do.

What do I do here?

Also, Thunderbird takes an incredibly long time to load up with the little status bar on the bottom. I compact folders and delete stuff regularly but it doesn't matter. It lags forever before the messages in the Inbox appear. Any solution to this?

TIA

Hello generous friends,

Something is wrong and I do not know enough to fix it. My firefox will no longer use google search, nor load certain specific websites such as amazon, myspace, gmail... however, it will load other pages. I tried reinstalling firefox - after the reinstall I used google search successfully a couple of times, then experienced the same problem. I'll enter a search term and the browser just will not load, same with the other pages mentioned - it will just tell me it's loading but never load.

This computer is a bit old and likely has some virus issues... here is a Hijack log if you are will to help. Thank You!

I'm using Windows XP fully updated, and I started using Chrome some months ago because of issues with IE7. Recently Chrome has been updated, and now displays on its Google home screen eight large thumbnails of sites I've recently visited. At the same time its initial loading has slowed down significantly, and it even locks up if I try to start using it before it's finished loading fully.
I've looked at the settings to try and find a way to disable the thumbnails, in the hope that this will speed up the loading, but can't find anything. In fact, I realise now that I don't even need to use the Google Search screen as my home page because Chrome's address bar doubles as a Google search bar. So how can I achieve a blank home page, so it doesn't waste time loading history?

Answer:Google Chrome now very slow to load

Yes, that's my version Jock1e.
Thinking about it a bit more, I have two choices but can't find either one in the setup menus: One is to change my Chrome home page to something other than Google -- perhaps even a blank page; the other is to configure the Google page so that it doesn't show the recent history thumbnails. That's on the assumption that it's the thumbnails that are slowing things down.

got the updated Chrome a few days ago. Version 64.0.3282.119 (Official Build) (64-bit)

since then, the app opens quickly, but takes literally 2-3 mins to complete loading? as in, will not connect, etc. I removed all addons, etc. still same. anyone else seeing issues? or shall I look for other sources of this.

sits there and spins..as if trying to connect to something. eventually completes and is fine after that.

I'm having problems with both Firefox and Chrome. Both are often, but not always, very slow to load websites. With Firefox I get a spinning green circle. With Chrome I get a spinning circle, too. I've no clue what the problem with Chrome is. It can hang and take so long to load a site that I have to close and start over. With Firefox it can be bad but not as bad as Chrome can be.

I don't know but suspect that, with Firefox, there's a lot of media content that causes it to load slowly. E.g., with newssites there are often multiple videos that play automatically and ads.

Any advice on how to address this issue?

Thank you.

Hello. I am PropagandaPanda (Panda or PP for short), and I will be helping you with your log.I apologize for the delay in response. Further more, you should not be taking any advice relating to this computer from any other source throughout the course of this fix.If you do not understand any step(s) provided, please do not hesitate to ask before continuing. I am a user of Firefox and have been for many years, but now that Mozilla have engaged in a version race to infinity and the Google toolbar plus several add-ons and possibly other auxiliary programs do not work, I am considering moving over to Chrome.

I use Windows XP 2002 Home with SP3, AVG2012 and ZA firewall.

I am currently giving Chrome a good trial run, but again the Google toolbar,KeyScrambler and NoScript are not supported. As I use Sandboxie and have no personal finance details on my computer, the loss of these otherwise useful programs does not matter too much. Nothing will get onto my computer and knowing my key strokes is of little value. NoScript ? No great loss regarding security in my case.

Question ?

I find that Chrome takes an age to load the Google Home Page and so do many other users on the web. Much slower than Firefox. Seems to be something to do with loading the Cache, I get a message saying "Waiting for Cache" and a time-out panel saying "Kill or Wait". Timing it results in 60-70 seconds from clicking the desktop icon to being fully loaded. Once loaded, all is OK. Firefox takes 35 seconds. I am finding Chrome with extensions and my selected settings a very attractive alternative to Firefox..

Is there anything that can be done about this ?

Answer:Chrome slow to load Google Home Page

Just an update.

I have found that adjusting the Chrome settings has made a big improvement.
Wrench>Options>Under the Hood>Privacy. Uncheck item 3 and/or item 2. I am currently running with items 2 & 3 unchecked.
The load time is now 5-10 seconds - it does vary a little, but is mostly 5 seconds. this is without Sandboxie.
With Sandboxie, the load time is 12-20 seconds. Infinitely better than before, so in the absence of another solution, there it stays. I can live with that.

Here is a screen shot :-

Well, It was a few days ago where my firefox started lagging, acting really slow and stuff. Eventually, it was hard for pages to even load, and many sites took minutes to load. I managed to get on google, (seems to be the only site that works), downloaded Spybot, and scanned. I found some regular files that were harmless, and one possible hijacker. I just sent them away, and the possible hijacker was stored safely by Spybot. Then, I tried to download hijackthis, the official site wouldn't load, and i went to Cnet to download it, I got a 0 byte file that says it's not a compatible system32 file (or something). Then I downloaded from majorgeeks, I unzipped the file, and it says theres an error (really sorry, I can't remember most of these messages). I restarted in safe mode, and I got the little bubble that said that Windows Security Center is unable to work, Click this bubble to fix this problem. I click it, and click fix now. It says that Windows Security Service is unable to start whenever I click it. I haven't gotten any farther than this, I don't know what to do. I can't post a hijackthis log because I can't really work this out.. Any help?

I think this started when I went to a bank website and received a popup asking for an updated email address. I received notification of a new email right after, stating something like thanks for signing up for Scorecard. I tried contacting the company by phone, and they asked for my bank account number. I asked what bank and they couldn't tell me. Nada, you're not getting my bank or bank account number. I contacted my bank and they know nothing about this company and are investigating.

Since then, I've been getting lots of unwanted email from a variety of companies all over the world. Firefox is also slow to load links many times.

I'm using 64-bit version of Windows 10, have 8GB RAM, FF 49.0.2, use gmail.

I tried Adwcleaner and Malwarebytes anti-malware (I have the paid version, that runs all the time in the tray). Didn't find anything wrong, but problem persists.

Can someone help?

Thanks

I recently removed malware that I found on my computer, earlier this week. It was working fine yesterday. However, when I tried to access the internet through Google Chrome, the page was completely blank. It took a long time to load up the infamous Google logo. Right after that, I tried to access a website and it would say "connecting" in the bottom left corner. The wifi at my dorm had a strong connection, too. I checked the internet through Firefox and the results were the same. I don't know if it's malware related or not. I would greatly appreciate the help.

Answer:Google Chrome and Firefox are slow!!!

I have to add that I can access the internet pretty well through safe mode with networking. But when it comes to working in normal mode, the connection is slow. It doesn't even load the page.

Yesterday, I posted that my computer was having some issues and most of the issues have since been fixed. My computer is working fine and the internet is no longer directing me to random sites nor is it opening tabs to random sites on it's own and it is not freezing up either. My automatic updates and firewall are all on and everything is currently up to date. However, I have both Google Chrome and Firefox and both are running very slow but was working just fine yesterday. I have no idea why they are running so slow.

Had the IE and Firefox redirect issue. Cured them with TDSKILLER, then ran MBAM to make sure no traces were left.

While surfing/youtube/music files on Windows Media Player, or anything really the CPU usage is at or near 100% and video and music is really choppy. Overall performance of the machine is really diminished. I'm not convinced the bug is gone. What do I do?? Please help.

Answer:google/firefox redirect... GONE but pc still runs slow.

Welcome to MajorGeeks!

Please read ALL of this message including the notes before doing anything.

Please follow the instructions in the below link:

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

and then attach the requested logs to your next reply when you finish these instructions.

**** If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going. ****
Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not. MGtools will frequently run even when all other tools will not.

After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
Helpful Notes:

If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:

Starting your computer in Safe mode

If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes, you could use a flash drive too, but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.

My computer is brutally slow to search on Google in both IE and Firefox. You type in what you want to search then you wait for 3 or 4 seconds or so while it displays a white page, then FINALLY the search results appear. It used to be instant.

My question is, how can I fix this? Is this malware? I've used combofix and have done a quick scan in malwarebytes. Nothing works!

Thanks.

While I was at work, my in-laws decided that my home computer was not protected. So, they installed AVG and some other program called IA(not sure name) without my permission. My wife was using computer and she started receiving messages saying that other sites werent protected and she was having problems accessing other sites. She told me what happened, and I told them to remove that crap that my in-laws put on there. Somehow, IE7 started crashing with an error message stating that it was being shutdown to protect my computer. I tried updating to Service Pack 3 and IE8 to no avail. To fix the situation temporarily, I transferred Firefox onto the system. It seems to work fine, yet when I type in a query in google, it takes about 15-25 seconds for a response. I believe it may be related to the Date Execution Prevention service. Also, i downloaded a program to check if any odd firewalls were up that would slow google down. AVG had two up and I removed them. System Restore did not fix the problem.OS: Windows XP home with Service Pack 3 and IE8.

Answer:IE crashes instantly, Firefox Google results are slow

Have you tried uninstalling AVG?Goto Start Menu > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs, select AVG and click Remove. You can do same with other software your in-laws installed.AVG's LinkScanner can make browser slow (specially if you have a slow connection) because it scans for each link in a page to see if they are safe to visit.Do not run many security apps (antispyware/antivirus etc) at the same time, it would only slow your system down. You can find an alternative free antivirus / firewall here : http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic3616.html

Hi, this is my first post. This site seems to have a very effective and helpful community.

The following are my symptoms: Google Redirect, Audio add popup, slow computer, security center will not update.
I am on XP professional, and I use firefox.

I have tried fixing with avast, malwarebytes, and ad-aware.
Someone on the following thread recommended comboFix
http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Web%20Search/thread?tid=6df7e15519290612&hl=en

I ran comboFix, browsing was fast, and without symptoms for about 5 minutes. But all problems returned except the last one i mentioned (security center will not update).

Thanks for you help
**just noticed the guideline: do not run combofix unless requested to

Answer:google-analstiks.us - firefox slow - emails won't open

OK, so I miss-spelled it in my original post. It is google-analystiks.us and sometimes I am directed to other random websites. Now firefox is crashing, it NEVER crashes.

I have ran Malwarebytes, McAfee, and AdAware (all updated first) and they have not found the problem.

Thank you,

My laptop is running XP Professional. There are no error messages when it starts up, however when clicking on Google search results, my browser is redirected to these generic-looking search engines. I am able to hit "back" in the browser and go to the actual page I requested. General browsing speed also seems to be VERY slow- even when the network is working fast. Ekkk, this is with chrome too!!
is this a problem with google cause i just switched to yahoo search engine and no problems...

Answer:firefox thinks firefox homepage is not safe

About that part where you google things and everything appears to be harmful, it is part of the google search engine now. I am also having it.

It can't be disabled and the only way is to copy and paste the link directly into the URL of the browser for now

ok this is gonna be a bit long but i want the details there. the issue pc is my old pc. it has windows 7 its an asus msn-la motherboard i cloned this drive and used it in my new pc. after a few months my new pc's drive died and i took the old drive from the issue pc(witch was not giving issues at this time) and stuck it into my new pc until my replacement drive came. when i got the replacement drive i cloned the drive again onto the replacement drive and then put the new drive in the new pc had no issues there. put the old drive back into the issue pc (this is when issues started) the pc booted up to the windows desktop loading screen fast but once it got there it sat there for like 5 min before loading into windows. once it loaded into windows it was un usable for around 10 min while it loaded background stuff. once it finally loads into windows if i try to open anything its still responding extremely slow. is there anything i could do to fix this or is this going to me a re install only situation? i did try to use a windows 7 disk to do a startup repair but it claimed i couldn't do it because i dident install from that disk.

Having had this default homepage for years, Google is now refusing to use it, and has reverted to the Google site based on my location in Ireland, Google.ie. I would have gone to the non-geo site to see if I could confirm it as my homepage from there, but can't (I get redirected back to Google.ie).
The reason for the non-geo Google page is that I was fed up with Google automatically prioritising search results from my country (If I want to narrow down a search to a location, I'm quite capable of using Advanced Search!).
I use Firefox normally, but it's the same in Internet Explorer (so it's not down to Firefox add-ons, which in any case I've been slimming down rather than adding to). Firefox, Internet Explorer & Internet Options all still have the default homepage I want (and nothing else in the drop-down list).
I don't know if it's relevant, but I can go to Google UK & Germany ok, but not Google.com (I'm sure I used to be able to go there).
I don't know anyone else within reach who has a computer, so if some kind person could try the URL for me, I'd have a clue whether it's Google's fault or mine.
The trouble with this is that you'll be rightly wary of trying it, and I can't remember where I found it (some like-minded tech blog, I think). But it's just possible someone out there might recognise it (or even be using it).
It's click here

Answer:Google won't use my default (non-geographical) Google homepage

Via the above posting, the link still goes to Google Ireland for me. But then I suppose it would (time for a good night's sleep. methinks!)

why won't "new" MSN homepage load right? Since Microsoft overhauled the old homepage, I can't get the new one won't load up properly.

Answer:Why won't new MSN homepage load right?

The reason is (after some looking myself) since I have 6 browsers, I'd thought I'd play and the reason is: either the browser you are using is outdated or not a browser recognized by Microsoft as current. It does work on Updated Internet Explorer browser, but if you are stuck with IE 8 because you are on XP, then I would suggest switching to a browser such as Google Chrome or Firefox, all of which will open your desired page properly with current versions. Unlike Microsoft who will not let you install Internet explorer 10, 11 or...is because they want you to upgrade from XP, and this is one way to do that. Downloading Chrome or Firefox will give you a current browser that works as well or better than Internet explorer, just make sure they are up to date. Other browsers such as Comodo Dragon or Ice Dragon did not display the content properly either. To err is human but to really screw things up, you need a computer!message edited by HopperRox

Answer:My homepage does'nt load!!

Please go here and follow the seven-page guide (links to subsequent pages are at bottom of each page)http://www.pcstats.com/articleview....When you have succeeded, install anti-virus and anti-spyware programs and keep them updated.Download and install SpywareBlaster from here: http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.htmlSpywareBlaster puts a "block list" into your web-browser. Keep SpywareBlaster up to date so it can add to the block list.SpywareBlaster also has a "protect my home page" option. Make sure you enable it.It's important to realise that SpywareBlaster cannot get rid of existing spyware. You must get rid of that first then install SpywareBlaster to reduce the risk of getting any more.

Answer:Google set as homepage, but keeps asking to be homepage

I am not finding any malware in your logs. However, from your MBAM log, you need to flush your restore files.

I suggest that you post in the software forum.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:

Renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it in step 4 of the READ & RUN ME.

If running Vista, Win 7 or Win 8, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.

Now go to the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click ( if running Vista, Win7, or Win 8 Right Click and Run As Administrator ) on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.

[*]After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

I have a win2k (pro) PC with IIS(5) running. I've built websites offline, one of which I now use as my homepage.

Some time ago I noticed that my homepage loads fine without being connected to the internet but, when connected, I get the (IE6) message:

"The page cannot be displayed
The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings. " etc etc
..........
"Cannot find server or DNS Error
Internet Explorer"

I get a similar message with the recently installed Firefox.

This is (significantly) beyond me, though I'm guessing it may be a dodgy registry setting "corrected" by the seemingly wonderful ccleaner program.

Any help much appreciated.

I have just bought a new computer complete with Windows 7. When I loaded Internet Explorer 9 on the old computer, the Google home page while it was loading made clicking sounds so you could hear when it was finished loading. On my new computer, the Google page loads up without any sound whatsoever yet I do have sound for Windows in general and other stuff such as music. Does anybody know how I set the Google page in IE 9 so it has sounds?

Thank you

HB

Answer:No sound in IE 9 when I load my homepage.

The google page has never had any sound for me, except on special occasions that google does have some special sound.

You can look at the Sounds, in the Sound Panel and see if there is something you can enable for the browser.

Hi, My friend asked me to do some maintenance on his laptop because it takes 20 Minutes+ for his homepage to load (http://start.earthlink.net/). He has DSL at 54 MBPS on a wireless card so it was never this slow (never slow at all)

He also receives many popups not relating to the site (obviously spyware) I have already done the Sticky Basic Spyware removal twice and still no luck. Also when I try to install any Norton Internet Security(2004,2005) it either freezes or nothing happens when you click install on the autoplay screen.

Should I just post a HJT log since i have already done the Basic Spyware removal?

I would think that this problem would be a pretty simple fix, but I can't find anything on it. Every time I start Firefox, the last page I visited is displayed instead of my homepage. I want my homepage to be displayed when I start the application. Help would be appreciated.

Answer:Setting the homepage to load at startup.

I take it you've set the homepage in Options > General tab. Are you running the SessionSaver extension?

Hi,

I thought this would be the best place to find help for an issue I've been having.

For a few months now, I've noticed that every time I travel, my homepage changes to the Domain of that country (Google.fr / Google.co.uk).
I also noticed that when I tried to change my homepage from Google to something else (in this case Openoox which still uses Google's search bar), it reverts back to Google.co.uk/[insert many special characters] instead.

I would really like to change my homepage, and more importantly, I'd really like my laptop to stop searching for sh*t in French when I go to France (a place I travel to frequently).

I am using Firefox (v. 36.0.1).
My Extensions are as follows:
-Search Status
-AdBlock Plus 2.6.7
-Mozbar 2.6.5
-Openoox import bookmarks (that's just so Openoox works efficiently though ultimately useless without the site as my homepage)
-McAfee Site advisor 3.7.2 (disabled)

Add-ons include:
-Shockwave update 16.0.0.305 (always activate)
-Google Update 1.3.24.15 (Ask to activate)
-Java Deployment Toolkit 8.0.310.13 11.31.2.13 (Ask to activate)
-Java(TM) Platform SE8 U3111.31.2.13 (Ask to activate)
-Photo Gallery 16.4.3505.912 (Ask to activate)
-Intel Identity Protection Technology 4.0.5.0 (Disabled)
-Intel Identity Protection Technology 4.0.5.0 (Disabled) [Not sure why that's there twice]
-Itunes Application Detector 1.0.1.1 (Disabled)
-OpenH264 Video Codec provided by Cisco Systems Inc., 1.3. (disabled)
-Skype Web plugin 3.1.15602.22612 (Disabled)

My comp crashed last week. I am not really sure why but it bluescreened. Anyway after much ado, I decided to reformat the drive and got a friend's copy of XP. I loaded that and want to download auto updates but I am unable to access microsoft's page. There are also other pages that I am having problems with for example, I wanted to register here with my dummy yahoo account to prevent spam, but I couldn't get in. I have friends that are on the same network and they can get in fine. help?

Answer:I Can't download updates or even load microsoft's homepage

Since its your friends copy of XP. If he has it installed also chances are you will not be able to download updates. XP is required to be activated inside a 30 peroid. This prevents one copy of XP being installed on more then one computer. If this is not your own operating system, you and your friend might run into some trouble down the line.

Question: Firefox Homepage

I'm testing out Firefox 4 (switched to Chrome after FF3.6 ate my RAM for lunch and ran slow). In Chrome, I had some pinned tabs, and in Firefox I also have pinned tabs. Thing is, when Chrome is closed with only pinned tabs open, then re-launched, it reloads just those tabs. It doesn't add a homepage on top. Firefox insists on opening a homepage. I set it to about:blank but it's irritating to have to close that tab every time I open the browser.

Any way around that (i.e. make Firefox not have a homepage, or not load it at every start)?

Answer:Firefox Homepage

Uhmmm... it's gotta load something or else it can't start. You can't have Firefox without at least one tab up there... mine's set to about:blank but I also use Tab Mix Plus for more capable session management but, it always loads that blank tab as soon as I fire up the browser.

Or am I just not understanding your request... if you don't want that blank tab showing up, make it one of the ones you're currently using as a pinned one, I'd say. That way at least you get content in it and don't have to close it for no reason.

Question: Firefox homepage.

Hey guys,
I downloaded a program to capture video of my desktop (for Minecraft videos ).
I installed it, it works just a bit laggy. But now my Firefox homepage (the google/Firefox start page) is now Ask.com.
How can I put that back?
Thanks,
Spock96

By default, Firefox sets the homepage as a collection of recent viewed pages. You can customize your homepage by following the steps below
Open a tab with the web page you would like to use as the hompage (example: https://www.pchelpforum.net)
Drag and Drop the tab onto the Home button (looks like a house)

Click Yes on the dialog that pops up to set that page as your homepage.
If you are using the Menu Bar, follow the steps below to set your homepage
Select Tools -> Options
In the Home Page bar, enter the web address that you would like to use (example: https://www.pchelpforum.net).
Simple and easy
