Question: Text colour

Hi, I have at the moment blue as my word font text colour, and when I change to black permanently, or try to, it persists in reverting back to the original blue. Is this a norm for Outlook office 7, or is there a permanent way to keep it black?

Preferred Solution: Text colour

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Text colour

You mention Word, Outlook and office 7. To set default colours is different in Word and Outlook. Is it Office 2007 or are you referring to Windows 7?Cannot help until you confirm which text needs changing.

Is this possible? There are no obvious boxes like the A above that let me change the font colour so I have been trying to use embedded codes but without luck.

How do I change the title bar text colour?

I can change all the other font colours in Advanced Appearance Settings, but not for a maximized box (only for non-maximized).

Am I missing something obvious? I've got a blue colour scheme and would like to change the title bar text to white.

As I said, it's only maximized boxes which I can't alter.

In the same way windows can show system compressed files in blue and regular files in black. i.e. I want *.exe files in red, *.zip files in blue & *.mp3 in green. In the same folder?

To take is one step further, *.mp3 (Podcasts) I have listend to in green & *.mp3 (podcasts) I need to listen to in red.

Its got to be a reg tweek or something but i can't find it. Anyone able to do this with out writting or using any 3rd party applications.

Hi Everyone,

I've just installed a new HDD and the drive letter E: and all the folders and files are in blue text. Would someone please tell me how I can change it back to black text? Thanks.

Answer:Text Colour of Folders

the reason it is in blue text is because windows xp has compressed the files and folders.

ie when the name of files is blue they are compressed

you can change seeing this in the folder options i think

Answer:changing colour of text

quote from 'net: "Windows Explorer has three colors for file names: blue for compressed files, green for encrypted files, and black for all others. The colors themselves cam be set in the registry. There is no other provision for setting the colors of filenames in Windows Explorer."
However, I found this scroll down to just over halfway down the page, it seems to say you have to buy third party software to get this function, or maybe there is some free software, try a google for it.

Currently have a jpeg as the desktop and the text boxes below the icons are dark blue with white text in. I know how to change the background colour to white with black text etc but I cant see an option to make it transparent with white text, as I have on my laptop running vista. Any ideas?

Answer:desktop icon text box colour

Try the following to set icons on XPs desktop as transparent

Open Control Panel > System > Click the Advanced tab > Click Settings in the Performance section > Check the Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop checkbox > Click OK

Note that if you are using any tweaking applications these may overide the default XP settings so check those applicatins for settings for desktop icons.

I want to insert revision text in draft documents in blue.

I found a suggestion for a suitable macro:

Dim oRng As Range
Dim oChange As Revision
Dim bTrack As Boolean
bTrack =ActiveDocument.TrackRevisions
ActiveDocument.TrackRevisions = False
For Each oChange In ActiveDocumentRevisions
(indented) Set oRng = oChange.Range
(indented) oChange.Accept
(indented) oRng.Font.Color = wdColorBlue
Next oChange
ActiveDocument.TrackRevisions = bTrack

I assigned the macro to F11.

However, pressing F11 just prints the macro text instead of allowing me to type my revision in blue.

I have no idea what might be the cause of this failure.

With thanks for any pointers.

Hi there,
I'm having a problem with my Outlook Express in my Win Xp home. I couldn't see any colour text in my OE. When i change my text colour in any mails, what i see is black. There isn't any colour appear on my OE. This happens even when i receive email, any colour text just doesn't appear in my outlook express. All i see is just black colour. Anyway i can reset my entire OE? I tried remove it and re-install it but it's just the same..

Answer:Outlook Express with no text colour

The first step to repairing OE is to Run the System File Checker

Go to the Run box on the Start Menu and type in:

sfc /scannow ( sfc if not reconized) (Note that there is a space between sfc and /scannow)

This command will immediately initiate the Windows File Protection service to scan all protected files and verify their integrity, replacing any files with which it finds a problem.

I think I don't miss the window border transparency, it didn't help readability anyway (in fact it mostly made it worse) and it's not so extremely beautiful that I'd want to keep it. But what is still bugging me is that the text colour of the window title bar is always black. No matter how dark the frame colour is. Aero still tried in vain to make it more visible by painting some white glow behind it, but Win8 doesn't even do that. Set a black window frame colour and you won't see any window titles at all! I consider this a major design flaw. So is it possible now to change the text colour (for active windows only!) from black to white? Just as it has been the last 30 years? I'm very much used to inverted colours for the active window because that makes it very clear which window is active. Though it is easier in Win8 to tell active and inactive windows apart, I still want to use white-on-darkblue active captions.

BTW, I noticed the automatic window frame colour adapting to the wallpaper image, but that's exactly what I do not want to have. First, the frame colour should not change, and second, it should have some contrast to its surroundings.

Adding this to the lack of configuration settings for other parts of the UI, it seems Microsoft doesn't want us to customise things at all. Just like every computer in the world should look and behave exactly the same. But wait, isn't that what Apple already did? Do I really need to move on to Linux to configure the UI like XP allowed... I would like to change the colour of text in a cell when the text changes based on the value in another cell. I am able to change the text in cell (in my case "A49") depending on the value in cell "H49" using the "IF" function. I have formatted a range of rows including row 49 so that it normally shows in red. However, I would like the colour of the text to change to black in cell "A49"and if possible also the background colour to another specified colour. Answer:Changing colour of text in a cell

Have you tried Conditional Formatting with the following Rule? It works for me.=H49=FALSEIf H49 will ever be empty, Conditional Formatting might pick that up as FALSE (FALSE = 0) so you might want to use this:=AND(H49<>"",H49=FALSE)Click Here Before Posting Data or VBA Code ---> How To Post Data or Code.

I want to create a rule where the "From" and "Subject" text of all received messages in my Inbox from a certain person changes to a green or red font colour rather than the standard black.

Anyone know how?

Answer:Creating a Rules that changes message text colour

1) Right click on one of the display fields above your emails (doesnt really matter which one, but lets go with the 'From" field)
2) Click "Customize Current View"
3) Click "Automatic Formatting" which will open the Automatic Formating window.
4) Click "ADD" and name your rule whatever you want, for this example we will call it "Bob"
5) After you name it Bob, click "CONDITION" (Opens Filter Window)
6) Type in the address you want to set the condition in the "FROM" field and click OK. This will take you back to the Automatic Formatting window
7) Now Click "FONT" and this is where you will select what color/font/size you would like to change said email to.

Note: you can put multiple email addresses in one condition, but on 1 color.

Answer:Can I tell windows to print black text in colour

I think the answer is "no". But, of course, you can probably change the font colour in Word or whatever software the document is being printed from. But that will require trial and error -- you'll have to specify colours which don't have any black mixed in them.

I am trying to find a VBA code to identify text by its RGB colour, and then delete it from the document. With this in mind, I am currently trying to edit a code I found online which changes text from black RGB (0,0,0) to red RGB (255,0,0). I thought I could use the same concept but to just delete the black text instead of changing it’s colour.

I am a beginner and it is just not that simple for me. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

Answer:VBA and Word 2010: Trying to identify text by RGB colour and delete it.

You can do this using the in-built Find/Replace in Word.

click on Replace
click on "Format" (at the bottom of the replace screen)
Click on "Font"
Click on "Font Colors"
Click on "Custom"
Change the RGB settings to 0,0,0
Click on OK twice
Click in the "Replace" box
Click "Replace All"

You can record all of these steps in a Macro
Sub Macro1()
' Macro1 Macro
Selection.Find.Font.Color = wdColorBlack
With Selection.Find
.Text = ""
.Replacement.Text = ""
.Forward = True
.Wrap = wdFindContinue
.Format = True
.MatchCase = False
.MatchWholeWord = False
.MatchWildcards = False
.MatchSoundsLike = False
.MatchAllWordForms = False
End With
Selection.Find.Execute Replace:=wdReplaceAll
End Sub

Try either of these on a copy of your document in case something goes horribly wrong.

Have you ever wished to change the black and white look of Command prompt (cmd)?
Ya its possible, we can change the black and white Colour to our own choice. There are 2 alternative method of changing the Command Prompt Colour. 1.) By Registry Editor 2.) By TuneUp Utilities Method 1.) By Registry Editor: a.) Open the Registery Editor (Start > Run > Regedit) and navigate to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Command Processor. b.) Locate to DWORD value “DefaultColour“.
In the right pane, modify the “DefaultColour” value, putting in a hexadecimal number say “E4″. The first digit of this value determines the background colour, and the second digit determines the foreground colour of the text. Preview:
In this case, ‘E’ corresponds to Light yellow colour, and ‘4′ corresponds to Red The result in command prompt window with red text on yellow background. Similarly you can set your own choice according to this table: Method 2.) By TuneUp Utilities: 1.) Open TuneUp Utilities > Customize Windows > TuneUp System Control > Navigate to, Administration > System > Command Prompt > Advance. 2.) Choose any colour of your choice & Press Apply. 3.) Restart your PC to see Effects.
That’s It. Source: Tweaking Windows

After saving an image file to my desktop, the Desktop Icons appearance has changed.
Can you tell me how to get rid of the blue background which suddenly appeared behind all my desktop icons and the text with them?

It was originally clear, see through, before I performed the actions below.
See this text below, that was copied from the dialog box which appeared when I tried to copy an image to the desktop.
As it says, it asked me if I wanted to add this image to my Active Desktop, I needed to save a copy.
Do you want to continue? I then clicked on Yes.

In order to add this item to your Active Desktop, you need to save a copy of the picture.

Do you want to continue?
Yes No

The image, a photo that I've transferred from my digital camera, placed it onto a word document, then I took a copy from the word document to the desktop. But immediately after that, all the icons then ended up with the text having a bright blue background.

I have tried going into Control Panel and fiddling around with all the options in the Display tab, but all I can do is change that colour, not remove it. I want to change it back to the way it was, no colour, just text clear on the wallpaper screen.

I can attach a file copy of my desktop showing you the way it now is.
The image file icon saved to the desktop is a .jpg and you can see it there at the bottom of 4th column of icons. Thi... Read more

Hi there gurus.
My pc doesn?t show certain colour objects in Publisher 2007 and some on-line sites. Overall, the screen colour is very good. I know the fault is localised, because when I switch to Print Preview in Publisher it looks fine and I can see all the object colours. (I only lose the colour with objects, not text)
Also, when I send a copy of a Publisher page to my partner who is on the same PC, it looks fine on her screen.
I?ve tried going to Install/uninstall programs and run the Repair, but to no avail. The guys in my computer shop are clueless without seeing it. Anyone who can help solve this for me is a gem.

What's cheaper: colour laser with genuine ink or colour inkjet with compatible inks?

I'm happy to invest in buying a colour laser: but I can't find any refills for lasers
At least they don't seem to be widely available

So, my choice is: colour laser + genuine inks or colour inkjet + compatible inks

From what I know, side by side: laser's are cheaper
But, how about when compared to genuine laser ink to compatible colour inkjet inks?

I should stress that for me needs, I am not overly concerned if using compatibles doesn't give me perfect results - just close as possible is fine for me

What's more important probably is speed of print at highest quality

ANY feedback would be great

Answer:What's cheaper: colour laser with genuine ink or colour inkjet with ink compatibles?

Finding Compatible Remanufactured Color Toner cartridges can be dicey. While they may be available, the problem may end up being the company tht does the remanufaturing. It is also dependant upon the model printer you get. I have noticed that the savings on my Black Canon X-25 toner cartridge is only about $12 lower than the cost of a Factory original cartridge. There are sites that I would save up to $30 per cartridge, but part of this is eaten up by the shipping charges. For my toner cartridge, I am about 1/2 mile from the store that does nothing but ink and toner refill services, and their garauntee thier cartridges 100%. In 3 years I have only had to return one cartridge and it was an HP #17 Color cartridge.

Now per page printing cost on a laser is much cheaper than on an inkjet. Though the printer cost itself is usually much higher for a Laser. Personally I use the laser much more than than my Inkjet, but I do use the inkjet for all color printing. But then 95% of my printing is monochrome text.

Hi, I'm using the Aerolite theme with Aeroglass, and want a consistent colour for the borders. So I set accent colour from background 'off' and choose the colour. Fine so far.

Now that's ok if I log off and on.

But if I sleep or hibernate (not personally ) and then resume, the colour and setting are lost.

I noticed that on resuming, the border colour is present until the 'Please wait' screen appears, after which these settings are lost.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Hi Allhope someone more knowledgable can advise - I recently purchased a Lexmark x500n multifunction colour laser printer - I had a big black print job to do excel and word - 2000 pages - i was shocked to see that - ok the black starter cartridge of 2500 pages was nearly empty- fair enough - but all three colour cartridges (1500 page size) were nearly all empty too - I hadn't done any colour printing but when i contacted the manuf they advised that the printer uses colour also to print black!! - it's getting returned to them - but do do all colour lasers do this - obviously this quadruples the costs of printing and has put my costing out of the window!! - any advice would be great - it's a network colour printer, with copier and scanner that I need - a fax would be great but not essential.thanks in advanceTrifly

That would pee me off no end. How in God's name can it use colour to create black when there's a black cartridge in there? A cheapo mono laser seems to be your ideal tool. I know nothing about colour laser printers, but is there an option anywhere in the settings to print using only the black cartridge? Does the printer still work if you take out the colour cartridge while printing only black text documents?

I seriously need help with my PC. I've reinstalled Windows XP and Service Pack 2, and I can't chnge the Screen resolution or the colour quality. It sucks. The resolution stays at 800x600, the lowest possible, and the colour quality stays at 8 bit. I think I have a ATI 128 MB DDR Radeon 9800 Pro. I dunno whether thats a driver or what. And I also don't know my graphics card, or whether that will help at all.

I would swear at this point but I'm too young.

Oh but I'll use this instead

Has anyone got any help for me that I can understand. I'm 14 but I still can understand most computer talk.

Anyway thanks very much for reading all this crap and please try not to point out all my spelling mistakes.

Answer:[resolved]Help with resolution and colour and colour quality??.. anyone??

Heya, welcome to the forums

Okay, it has to do with your drivers. Go to ATI's website and find your driver.

Here's the link

Please download and install both the Control Center as well as the Display driver. Then restart your computer and try to change the resolution.

Greetings! I've searched everywhere for the answer to this issue. It must be common, but I can't find it anywhere. I'm using MS Word 2007, but the problem was the same in 2003. I sometimes get a text box that is behind regular text. I need to move it. One normally just selects a text box and drags, or cut and paste, it where one wants. However, when it is behind text, it can't be selected. I have found no way to select normal text and "send it behind."

How do I get to this text box that is behind my regular text? I've been told to "move the regular text out of the way, then you will be able to get to your text box." But the text box moves with text!

Answer:Text box stuck behind regular text in MS Word 2003 and 2007, Can't select text box.

I was just given this assignment and the boss wants to see results today! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am trying to create a document that will include mail merged data. There will be a list of topics with a check box for each topic. These topics are the items we need to be able to issue a license. If an applicant has not sent all the needed information we send them a letter telling them what is needed.

We want to be able to put a check in a box and have that line print as well as the text box that accompanies the topic if there is information in the text box. If a topic is not checked or if a text box is not used we do not want it to print out. We want the text to move up to fill any lines that are not being printed so there won’t be big gaps between the lines of text.

I am using Office XP on Windows 2000.

I am experiencing an erratic text insertion point.
When using MS Word, WordPress, or other typing endeavors, the text insertion point jumps around while typing.
The result is;

1) what I type is inserted into text that is already written,
2) text is placed elsewhere on the page, or
3) written text is erased --- this may be a few words or a whole paragraph.
Typing is like playing a game --- can you type and watch where the words are placed or erased and still finish a sentance.

I use a Satellite C655 which I've just purchased through BJ's, Word 7, Internet Explorer, and Word Starter 2010.
I don't like this version of Word, but my disk for Word 2003 will not install due to a "missing file" -- go figure.

Any suggestions? Is this a problem such that I should return my laptop to Toshiba?

I've read references in increasing icon spacing via Regedit tweaks, but will that also increase the text length under icons before the text wraps to a new line. For example a folder named "Screen Grabs" displays both words on one line with Win7 but breaks it into 2 lines with Win10.

Will modifying the icon spacing via the regedit tweak also affect text wrapping?

Depends on your text sizing, I have mine at 8 and it keeps to one line; 9 and higher, though, I think it starts to wrap.

I'm having trouble extracting text from the middle of a text string using Excel.

I've been searching around and there are a few ways this can be done however most really on using a function to search for the text after a specific letter or seperator.
For example singling out the middle initial of a name:

Jeffery J. Skilling
John D Doe

In Column B the First Name will be extracted using the following formula
=LEFT(A2,SEARCH(" ",A2,1)-1)

in Column C the Middle Initial will be extracted. for middle init use this formula
MID(A2,SEARCH(" ",A2,1)+1,1)
My problem is that i can't single out anything to search by to be able to define what needs to be extracted.

Below is a list containing some of the items from my list. As you can see they differ in number of characters and have multiple dashes "-". What formula/process can i use to extract the bold numbers from each of the text strings. I have about 27000 lines to process!

Once again your help is always greatly appreciated!

Answer:Solved: Excel: Extract text from the middle of a text string - Difficult

"multiple dashes": agreed, but in your sample all items have the same number of multiple dashes -- 3.

If that's a given, just use Data > Text to Columns with "-" as delimiter. Then delete fields 1, 2 & 4 from the results since it seems that "section" 3 is always the bold stuff.

HTH, if not post back.

Ok this is wierd I have a client using Office 2007 pro and some of her docs that she recently updated and the problem is when she prints the docs text that she deleted is printing over the top of new text she inserted into the doc.

Now when you have said doc open in WORD the deleted text is not there in any view and does NOT show in "print preview".

I opened said doc with WORDPAD and the deleted text shows up at the bottom so its still in the word doc somewhere imbedded so it prints over the top of the actual text in the doc.

Remove hidden data and personal information from Office documents - Excel - Microsoft Office

How do I find and remove hidden data and personal information in my Office documents?

You can use the Document Inspector to find and remove hidden data and personal information in Office documents that were created in Office Word 2007, Office Excel 2007, Office PowerPoint 2007, and earlier versions of these Office programs. It is a good idea to use the Document Inspector before you share an electronic copy of your Office document, such as in an e-mail attachment.
Open the Office document that you want to inspect for hidden data or personal information.
Click the Microsoft Office Button, click Save As, and then type a name in the File name box to save a copy of your original document.
Important It is a good idea to use the Document Inspector on a copy of your original document because it is not always possible to restore the data that the Document Inspector removes.
In the copy of your original document, click the Microsoft Office Button, point to Prepare, and then click Inspect Document.
In the Document Inspector dialog box, select the check boxes to choose the types of hidden content that you want to be inspected. For more information about the individual Inspectors, see What information can the Document Inspector find and re... Read more

How to indent Footnote text (between the raised number and the body text) automatically?

I have created a document in MS Word 2010 that has a textbox with a background color. When I print the document to my printer (have tried multiple printers) or print to PDF, the textbox prints but the text itself does not print. (see attached image)

Upon further investigation of the PDF, I found that the text is actually layered below the textbox. For some reason, Word is printing the textbox on top of the text itself.

When I take the textbox, copy it to a new document, and try to print, it prints correctly.

I have also checked my printing preferences and I believe all the settings are correct.

Does anybody know how to fix this?

Many times in the past when I would type plain text into cells of an Excel spreadhseet, I noticed that at point, the contents of a cell would turn into sharp signs (i.e. ####################). I did not know what triggered this, but I did notice that if I change the cell type from Text to General, the cell's text would come back to normal.

Today I had this happened again, and I was determined to find out what caused it. As it turns out, if you have a Text-formatted type cell and you type more than 255 characters in it, all the cell's contents will turn into sharp signs. In order to revert to the text you must either change the cell's format to General or truncate the text manually to a maximum of 255 characters.

The problem with formatting cells as General in a text-only spreadsheet is that you cannot use characters that make Excel think you are typing a formula; that is, you cannot use hyphens or "keywords" such as "not", etc, without prefixing them with a '. This is why I normally format all cells as Text when I know I will only type text in a certain spreadsheet.

Has anyone else noticed this, and is there a solution to have more than 255 characters in a cell without having to change its type to General? Thanks for any help.

Answer:Excel: Text in Text-formatted cells changes to ### after the 255th character

You might want to read this:
- in general, 1024 characters is the maximum allowable in a cell, but, as you have noticed, at 255 characters they are no longer displayed in the cell normally, but you can enter 32,767 characters in total, but after 255 characters they can only be read in the formula bar.
Also, if your cell only contains numeric data, then changing the format to General will leave you with information using scientific notation.
Alas, spreadsheets are spreadsheets and not word processors.

Just bought my first PC in a decade, and I find in some applications or menus the text is distractingly fuzzy. I have a gaming monitor, set my display to 144 hz - please bear in mind I hardly have any idea what I'm doing - and am using a DCI-D cable.

It looks to me like anywhere where the text looks wrong, it's reproduced behind, sort of like a shadow, but it looks terrible so I'm not sure it's intended to be so displayed. The odd icon, especially in the start menu, does the same. Any suggestions would be much appreciated... back to the PC world and already it's requiring WAY more tinkering than I'd prefer!!

Answer:Gaming monitor blurry text - sort of - text shadowed behind

Interestingly enough, just looked at this post on my ipad, and the screen shots are not showing the doubled up text. Hope that's another piece of the puzzle!!

Is this possible? In word 2013 i am making a for sale poster and i want to put phone numbers at the botton from left to right and cut between them with scissors so people can pull off the number as you have i'm sure seen many times. But how can i rotate the numbers so the text is at a 90 degree angle to the text in the body of the ad?

Answer:change line of text in word so it's laid out 90 degrees to other text?

Look in the character or paragraph format memu - select the angle you want. Sorry I can't provide exact instructions, I use a different Office suite, but the 'align text' or 'text alignment' feature is in most.

I am making a database that imports data from excel files. However, those files are not originally from excel. So, I have to pull data about once a week from a system that saves the files to a format that excel can read, but Access doesn't want to read because it is not in the xml format. I have to convert the data to excel (easy as opening the file in excel and saving it as an xml). I then go into the worksheet and have to change the first row, because it contains repeating data and they need to be unique fields of course. The first row is used as the header information. The first 10 columns A1 -J1 are fine as the data is unique in each. K1 is where the issue begins. K1 contains a year and other text. The following 13 columns L1:X1 contain other text without the year from K1. This repeats at Y1 having a year and the following 13 columns not having a year but having the same text as L1:X1. I need to take the year from K1 (the year will be the first four characters) and insert that year as text into the next 13 columns (as the beginning text of the cell) so they become unique. This needs to happen about 20 times, 2015 - 2035. This is tedious at best doing it by hand, but I have to do it for every piece of data I pull. I could do it by hand once and then copy and paste it into all of the new worksheets, however I'd prefer to have a macro I could run to do this.Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Answer:Excel 2010: Cell contains specific text, insert that text...

Try this. The code is written for the K1, L1:X1 situation. Expand/modify it to extend across all of your other ranges. As written, it inserts the first 4 characters from K1 and a space at the beginning of L1:K1.
Sub AddYear()
'Loop through Range
For Each myCell In Range("L1:X1")
'Insert first 4 characters from K1
Range(myCell.Address) = Left(Range("K1"), 4) & " " & myCell
'Repeat code for other Ranges
