on start up laptop is making a loud beeping noise

Question: on start up laptop is making a loud beeping noise

After sorting out one problem I now seem to have another with my HP G70 notebook. When I start up before it loads into vista the screen stays black and it makes a VERY LOUD beeping noise for about 2 minutes. This noise sounds like a counting beep, and then after this time it loads up and is as normal.Could this be a battery problem? (Am waiting for a new one to arrive).

Preferred Solution: on start up laptop is making a loud beeping noise

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Can you note the actual sequence of beeps, they probably repeat themselves.Look here.click here

Hi,
I am using a Dell Inspiron 14 laptop. A few days ago, I noticed that my laptop has become incredibly slow (the system will hang sometimes, and continue as per normal after a while), and this coincided with my laptop beginning to make this weird, sharp beeping sound. At first I did not pay much attention to it, but later this was joined by several BSODs, and my laptop became even slower (games that usually did not lag was now hanging halfway through, and continuing as per normal after a lengthy period of 1 minute or so). I tried to find the origin of the noise, and I think it came from my Internal hard drive sector, and thus decided to open the sector up (in hindsight I probably should not have). After I replaced it, without doing much (just doing the usual IT-amateur stuff, wiping it and blowing it a few times), my situation has now worsened to the point that startup takes a much longer time, and finally now it hangs at the "Starting Windows" screen, but without the Windows 7 logo showing, and my screen later turns black. Any help is appreciated.

Answer:Internal hard drive making beeping noise, laptop won't start up

Install a new drive. Use the recovery discs you created when you first bought the computer to restore it to factory new state. If you didn't create the discs then you can order a recovery disc from Dell, just go to their support site at http:/support.dell.com.

You can download a legal copy with SP1 integrated from here: Official Windows 7 SP1 ISO from Digital River.
Make sure you get the same version you have, Home Premium, Pro or Ultimate and 32 or 64 bit. Note that Basic or Starter is not available.

I recommend using ImgBurn at 4X speed (or the slowest available) to create the DVD from the downloaded .iso file.

You can do this on any computer capable of burning a DVD.

For techies or folks who work on computers: Create Windows 7 Universal ISO With All Editions Selection On Install with ei.cfg Removal Utility.
This will fit on a 6GB flash drive or can be burned to a DVD.

When I start my Inspiron N5040, it makes audible 3 beeps for 3 times then it goes away but I can hear
faint 5 beeping noises while computer is running at a regular interval.  It beeps for 5 times then pauses for a few seconds then it continues on and on.

Answer:My laptop is making beeping noise

Hi ELIJAH3,
3 beeps codes is a system board failure and 5 beeps is a CMOS battery failure.
Ensure you backup all imp data on the system first.
Update the BIOS if possible - http://dell.to/2g6cqpK- restart the system and check.
Restart the system and press f12 key on startup - choose diagnostics. Let it run the diags and if you encounter any errors - make a note of the complete error and report the same to us. These are onboard diagnostics and they might possible pick some error if the hardware is not functional.
If the 5 beeps issue persists, then download the service manual from the above link - remove and reseat the CMOS battery and check. Or replace the CMOS battery and check.
If the issue is unresolved, then I would suspect a motherboard failure.
You could contact our team to get a quote for a paid service call - http://dell.to/1vnT6CQ
You could also order the parts online here - http://bit.ly/2gLyEP1
My personal suggestion is for you to invest your money on a new machine than to repair this system. However, that is your discretion.
Let us know if you have any other queries.

I bought the HP Pavilion x360 m3 Convertible 2 in 1 laptop online from Amazon September of last year. Everything was fine until around November where it was making this soft, but noticeable mechanical sound when I turned it on. I didn't pay much attention to it because it was not obnoxiously loud at the time, and I make sure that the fans are breathing and not collecting dust. However, now it appears that the fans are like jittering and making this whining noise when I'm on. I don't run a lot of programs at once on there nor do I leave it running for a long time. The noise is really bothering me because I can't even bring it to class with me because of how loud it sounds!  I tried everything, updating the BIOS, doing system checks and diagnosis through the HP support assistance, I always keep it clean and I use compressed gas to blow the dust that I could find in or around the laptop as thoroughly as possible. Still nothing. I have no clue what to do so I hope someone can help me, please. Thanks!

Question: Loud Beeping Noise

I installed a 200gig hd in my comp, with my 80 gig thats already in there. Everything was good, windows loaded fine, but today my computer light started blinking on and off and my comp made a loud continuous beeping sound. Whats up? Its completely random, and it usually stops making that sound after 10-20 sec.

Answer:Loud Beeping Noise

First guess would be that your system is not getting enough love from your power supply.

Go here: http://www.extreme.outervision.com/ and calculate how much your system needs, then open up your case and look at the sticker on your PSU to see how many watts it is putting out.

Hello everyone. I own a dell inspiron 9300 and I recently read that if i typed msconfig into the run tab on my computer and then disabled some of the items on there that it would run quicker. Well I did just that and then I tryed to switch it back and I can't. Now my internet connection won't work and it makes this extremely loud beeping noise for no reason. It's always been really slow and I thought I could speed it up. I only use it for going on the internet and for fixing my pictures. If anyone has any advice I'd really appreciate it. Thanks

Thank You for using Lenovo Community Forums!

I'm Thinking about stuck key or button on your system.
Can you try running Passmark Keyboard Test a key or button will show red on the image if it is being pressed or held down.

Try doing a BIOS Reset as well
Keep on hitting F2 when you turn it on,
Once inside BIOS, hit f9 to load default and f10 to save and exit

I have a Lenovo IdeaPad P580 bought in August 2012. Best Buy sent it back to serivce center to replace hard drive. When I got it back I had to call Lenovo to get new disks to reinstall windows. Tonight as I was reinstalling I began to get the loud beeping noise all the way through the installing of windows. The installation is complete but now when I reboot the computer I get another loud contiuous beeping noise after the Lenovo screen. The screen comes up starting windows but Windows does not load. Is this again another hard drive failure? My serial # **********and I just rebooted it again and got the screen to start in safe mode or start normally which I just did and got to the Windows 7 Home Premium screen. I am beginning to be real sorry I purchased Lenovo as I am back to using my old Dell laptop. Will I have to get another hard drive?

Hi everyone,
This morning when powering my laptop after it being on sleep mode it did 7 successive beeping noise in interval and did not boot, after a few try it finally booted without noise. I am concern that something may go wrong very soon what should I do?

Answer:Inspiron 7737 loud beeping noise when booting

Seven beeps is a processor or mainboard failure - since the CPU is a permanent part of the board, they're effectively the same thing on this model.  Try a system reset -- power off, unplug, remove or disconnect the battery, and remove and reinstall the memory modules and hard drive.  If the problem begins to re-occur, replace the mainboard/CPU.  This will be covered if the system is under warranty - if not, it's a major repair and will likely run a few hundred dollars.

I have a Dell desk top, windows Vista, 1 GB RAM, 250 GB external hard drive.I was working on the computer, no internet up. Only a Word Document up. I wanted to play a game I had installed on the computer over a year ago, Chuzzles.  I opened a folder I made for extra not often used games. I double clicked on the Chuzzles icon, but missed the icon. So I double clicked actually on it. It didn't open. I double clicked twice meaning 4 times, by accident again. The Chuzzles screen came up, it was the not full screen one, so I clicked the full screen option. The monitor then turned a blue and white fuzzy mess with 3 letters across the screen, one letter was "e" and the date 2010 came on the screen with it. Then my tower started making a loud whirring like an engine and there were 3 beeps that occurred over and over every 2 seconds. At my brother's instruction I tried to turn it off at the tower with the powen button, didn't go off. I unplugged the tower at the wall. Then I tried plugging it in again, then pressed the on button. The computer went right back into making the whirring noise and the 3 beeps over and over and nothing came up on my monitor, black screen. I was really concerned at this point. Couldn't turn the computer off with the power button so I unplugged it again.  I waited half an hour before doing the start up process again: Still the noise, beeping, and won't turn off, and nothing on the monitor. I unplugged the computer, w... Read more

Hi, when I bought my PC two years ago, it was silent, it barely made any noise. However, I later made a huge mistake. I opened the case to clean the inside of the computer with an air compressor, but while I was cleaning the fans I wasn't holding them so the air compressor made them spin faster than normal. Following that, every time I boot my PC now, it makes a loud noise and also the PC makes a lot of noise in general. A lot more than when I bought it, to a point where sleeping next to it when it is turned on is a hard thing to do. Now, I'm wondering if that mistake is the cause of the noise. When I look at the fans, they don't seem to be damaged at all. I have 3 fans: The case fan, the graphics card fan and the power supply fan. My PC is cleaned regularly so I know it's not dust or anything that's causing the problem.

Here's some interesting info: It only makes noise when it's booting after the computer has been turned off for more than 30 minutes. If it's less than that, it doesn't make the loud noise. I have no idea why. Also, about 3% of the time, the desktop doesn't get to fully load because the computer freezes. It's a problem that started at the same time the noise started. If it is indeed one or multiple fans that are broken, how can I know which one(s) is?

I made a video of when I'm booting the computer so you can hear and see what is happening.

You didn't tell us the brand and model of the computer.
Using an air compressor is very bad, because you risk the damage of static electricity that is generated in amazing amounts. Next time, us canned air designed for use in cleaning computers.
Replace the CPU fan, us buy a new CPU cleaning kit, and any fans that blow air to the outside, and replace the power supply with one of decent quality. Clean the dust of fan blades and computer walls with a soft rag soaked in denatured alcohol. Get some nylon or plastic ties to hold the cables together and away from any fans. Tie down SATA and EIDE cables so they cannot block air or rattle. Make sure all air flow passages are free and allow full movement of cooling air. All these will likely return your computer to normal. You could also buy "silent" cooling fans for very little money which would reduce your noise even more..

What happened to me one is that the CPU fan's mounting came loose and was not stable. Check to see if everything looks secure on it.

I built my own pc about a year ago. Lately whenever I boot the machine up it makes this weird buzzing, clicking noise. It generally stops after it gets fully booted up. Then it is quiet, but sometimes it will start making a buzzing noise after it has been on for awhile (I leave it on all the time). At first I was worried it might be the hard drive, but I have not had any real trouble with the machine. I figured if it were the hard drive, it probably would have died by now or I'd have some serious issues. So, what do you think? It would have to be the power supply or one of the internal fans right? Should I replace my 400 watt power supply?

Thanks!

Answer:PC making loud noise, could it be the PS or something else??

Its probably a fan. I would take it out and take a look at it and put it back. You first have to find out wich fan it is.

I have had similar problems. I used to hit the fan a few times wih a screwdriver and it fixed the problem. I am not recommending it though. It was my PSU fan. Maybe u should clean it. Be careful.

Hi ao6238, and welcome to TSG.

If the motherboard supports it, the beeping may be an internal overheating alarm and the shutdown may be a protective measure to prevent heat failure. Give us some details about your computer hardware setup.

Okay never had this one happen.
I just recently replaced the mother board and power supply on my system.
My processor is an AMD Athlon XP3200. The mother board is an ABIT KW7. The power supply is an Antec SP500. Windows XP pro.

So its all been running smooth for about 3 weeks up until Friday night. I like to leave my system up and running, just letting it go into stand bye mode. I do shut it down at least once every couple of days. Well all of a sudden Friday night I come in from being outside and I hear this noise that sounds like an alarm going off. Rather reminded me of how a fog horn is blown. I follow it to the computer room where I find my system had no life but only making this alarm noise. I pulled the plug and felt the system. It felt warm but not that hot. I let it sit for an hour and I fired it back up and everything was fine. For safety sake I shut it down for the night. On Saturday morning I fired it up and things were fine. But come Saturday night I heard the alarm noise again and sure enough it was doing the Fog Horn alarm noise again with no other signs of life. I shut it down for the night.

I'm on it now and all the fans are running just fine. No system glitches either.

Is the processor over heating and just shutting down?? Thats my only guess. Not sure where to start or how and what to check.

Thoughts anyone??

Thanks

OK, so for a few months now, my one year old computer's power supply box has been making a very loud noise after I start up my computer. It lasts anywhere from 3 to 10 minutes. And lately the sound comes up even when my computer has been on for any amount of time after I turned it on.I recorded the sound:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i9-s7mUXfH8It's pretty loud if you're there in the same room, or even outside the room. Now, I opened up my computer because I naturally thought that it was dusty, which it was. So with my computer off, switched to 0 and unplugged, I dusted it inside and out. I made sure to hold each fan still (one on the mother board, one on my graphics card and the one in the power supply) while I cleaned the dust using a pressurized can of air. (FALCON Dust-Off Professional)I did open up my power supply and dusted everything in there to, very carefully. I then made sure that nothing was hitting the fan in the power supply while it spun, there were no obstructions, everything seemed that it'd be running smoothly. I then put everything back together and made sure everything was in place. Turned on my computer and it still made that noise. So I'm still not sure why it makes that noise. I checked to see if my computer was overheating, but it wasn't hot at all, and it's definitely in a ventilated place, all sides of it (vents) have nothing in their path. So I'm still not sure why that sound it happening or what is making it. ... Read more

I never had this problem before until recently I noticed that my fan was making this loud buzzing noise. It was bearable at first. I thought that the fan might be dusty inside because I haven't cleaned it ever since I bought it. Last week, I tried to open the laptop so I can check why it is making that loud noise. I saw that the fan was dirty. I tried cleaning it. When I turned on my laptop, it was still making that loud buzzing noise. So I just ignored it. After a week, It suddenly got louder. It didn't sound normal anymore. I tried restarting the laptop but it still makes that noise. Its annoying. I took a video so you can hear what my fan is making.  It just keeps doing like this even if my laptop is just on stanby, like I'm not doing anything with it. This is what it sounds like when I did the Dust Removal tool on Energy Management.   Since I kept using the Dust Removal tool.. Now its making this weird noise, like the fan is getting stuck on something. I don't know what to do anymore. Its been 2 years since I bought this laptop so I don't have anymore warranty and I never had problems with my laptop except for today. I have never dropped it so I don't know why this is happening to my laptop. Please help me.

Answer:Lenovo Y510P fan making really loud noise.

Hi there, Xbelleh -
Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

This video would leave me to believe that a piece of paper or other debris shifted inside and is now coming in contact with the fan blades.

When you use the dedusting cycle the debris is temporarily being blown out of the way of the blades.  What I would do is use a can of compressed air and blow out the fan assembly from both directions and see what is blown out.  Compress air is available at any office supply store, electronics store or big box discount store.  When using the compressed air use short bursts as an extended burst may damage the fan's bearings from over revving.

Also, when using the laptop take note of its position.  If the fan is quiet on a flat surface, but is noisy when sitting at an angle like on your lap.  That might be a good indication that the fan bearings are failing.

Worst case scenario is you need a fan replacement.  The fan is something that the owner can replace if you are comfortable working inside it.

As a do-it-yourself project it can be fixed in an afternoon. At this point I would try the compress air and we'll go from there.

Update us how it goes.

Hello

Today I was playing my games, as usual until my laptop starting making very, very loud buzzing noises. I instantly turned off the laptop. Left if for a bit and turned back on. Again, extremely loud noises. I'm scared to turn it back on now. Im thinking it's the fan as that is where the noise is coming from but I can't be sure.

Any advice on what to do? Any one else had this problem?

Thanks

Answer:My Satellite C855 is making very loud noise

On this virtual way we cannot say for sure what the problem is but I can imagine that cooling fan is responsible for this.
From the first moment when you switch your notebook ON cooling fan is active so I would like to know if you can hear this noise from the first second after start-up.

Is there some other kind of vibration?

Of course it is also interesting to know if your notebook has valid warranty or not. If yes I strongly recommend you to contact nearest Toshiba service provider, explain the situation and ask for help.
They can order and exchange cooling vent.

The noise started coming about a week ago. It wasn't that loud, but I would sometimes hear a vibrating sound coming from the fan of my Lenovo G555. Sometimes it would stop. But if I ever moved it, the vibrating noise would come back. But today, the noise got really loud and it wouldn't stop this time unless I shut it down or something. Why is this? Is there any solutions to get this fixed, too?

Answer:Lenovo G555 fan making loud noise

As you are experiencing loud noise from the system.

To diagnose, I would suggest you to please update update the Bios of  your system from the below mentioned web link.
http://consumersupport.lenovo.com/in/en/DriversDownLoads/APR_Driver_List.aspx?CategoryID=150169&OS=0

After that please check if the issue resolved.

I have a home built computer, (not built by myself) and the power supply makes loud noise almost like the fan is hitting against something. I have checked the fan, and it is clear of all contact, and this is not constant. There are times where it will be too loud to even sleep with from across the house, and times where it runs quiet as a mouse.

When it was making the loud noise, I was moving the computer to get a good look at it, and when it hit into the corner of my desk, the impact stopped the noise. I know it is coming from the power supply fan, but there is nothing for it to be hitting so I don't know whats causing it.

Answer:Power Supply Making Loud Noise

Are you aware that there is also a fan on the CPU, inside near the power supply?

My brand new (1 week old) Satellite M305D is continuely making a battery-low beeping noise even though it's plugged into an A/C outlet. Also, after installing programs and having to restart, the screen goes blank but the laptop never actually turns off and I have to press down the power button to turn it off and then turn it back on.

The DVD drive sometimes doesn't show up as being connected.

Answer:Satellite M305D making 'beeping' noise and can't restart itself

Have you updated the BIOS to the latest version? Check the Toshiba Europe driver site.

As for the DVD problem, try this: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?id=314060

For the beeping problem, you should send the laptop to an authorized service center for warranty repair.

Hi

Hope this is the right forum.

I have a Toshiba Laptop A60 series, I don't know if its satelliate or Equium but it's A60.

Anyway this week the AC adaptor appears not to be working. I had it plugged in and initally it seemed it was not charging the laptop even though the light on the adaptor was on and now the light doesn't come on and all I can hear is a beeping noise - even when it's not plugged into the laptop,

My laptop is now on zero battery power so I can't even turn it on, it's just flashing amber all the time.

I take it the AC adaptor is just not working? Do I have to get a new adaptor? Please tell me I don't have to geta new laptop - I still have stuff on there I want to keep.

many thanks

Answer:Satellite A60 - AC adaptor not working and making a beeping noise

> My laptop is now on zero battery power so I can't even turn it on, it's just flashing amber all the time.
In my opinion this is not a AC adaptor issue?
If the notebooks power LEDs just flashing amber then this would mean that an error (possible motherboard) has been detected.
The blinking LED provides an error code and this can be read by a notebook technician.

In your case I would not buy an new AC adaptor because you are not 100% sure what cases this issue. In my opinion the notebook should be checked to find out what the issue could be and then you could decide about the further handling.

even though I have only a browser on with no video. I tried re-booting it but sames problem.

It seems like some sort of fan problem because usually I can feel the heated air coming out from the side but right now I don't feel it so I guess the heat cannot escape because the fan wouldn't blow the heat out!

My warranty is over too, it's slightly over a year that I bought it.

I guess trying to fix the fan would be something that only experts can do?

I guess this cooler would be a good thing to buy? http://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master-...=laptop+cooler

Hi Girom, It sounds like the one of the laptops fans have gone , Buying a likely replacement is not so difficult if you go the Ebay route search out your model in "laptop spares and accessories" ,Installing is not too hard to do either .
I don't think a laptop cooler will help you much as it's not direct on the CPU or GPU

So my laptops fan started making this really loud rattling noise. It makes me very self-conscience about me when I'm in public, so I just don't bother bringing it along. But I really need my laptop with me. The sound usually comes out at random. I've searched the HP Part Picker Store and under the fan section it just lists the fan pad, which isn't what I need. I do believe that I need to completely replace the fan at this point (I've tried fixing the problem from cleaning the fan out from dust to checking it for any damage, but can't find what the problem is). Would anyone know where I can find a replacement fan for my laptop and would I need to buy it with the whole heat sink and thermal compound? I'm pretty experience in computer repair so I have some confidence that I can do it, plus my warranty expired in 2014 so I won't be voiding that anyways. If it helps any, the product # is A3E83AV.

Answer:Fan making loud rattling noise, need replacement part but ca...

The noise is usually caused by a failing fan motor bearing. You were at the wrong item name. What you need is the discrete thermal module, which contains the fan an heat sinks for the CPU and video. The part number for your notebook's product number is 682061-001. It is on the following HP PartSurfer web document. http://partsurfer.hp.com/Search.aspx?SearchText=A3E83AV

I put my headphones in the jack today and heard a weird background noise. When I removed them, the computer speakers were making a loud buzzing noise as well.  The buzzing noise comes and goes and disappears if I mute the computer's volume.  I cannot hear any audio on my computer now (no music, videos, noise at start up/shut down, etc.). I have tried updating the sound drivers and restarting the computer several times, but to no avail.  I have also tried to get sound with and without external speakers attached, with and without headphones in, etc. and I can only occassionally get the loud buzzing noise which is coming directly from both of the speaker vents on the bottom of the computer.  Thoughts on a solution?

I believe the sound is coming from the heatsink. Its right near the vents and its extremely loud when thecomputer is at loading temperatures. So mainly during boot up and when loading many programs. This has been like this since out of the box. Its should be such a small problem, whats the easiest and fastest way to get this fix? I have dealt with many hardware issues for cameras phones and computers, so if theres like a tuturial on opening this thing, it would be great. Thank you very much.

Im trying to play a video in Windows media player but with any video all i hear is a really loud static noise, ive tried playing the exact same files in Windows movie maker and the sound works just fine so i know the files are ok.
Ive also tried playing them in DivX and i'm getting the exact same ear popping static noise so the only thing that seems to be able to play them with the correct audio is Movie Maker.
The video file is .AVI but ive also tried .MKV with the exact same results, i know my Windows media player used to work fine so i have no clue whats messed up, Any help would be much appreciated!

Hey all,

First timer here with very little computer experience. I've been browsing the forum via google, and I noticed a bunch of people had the same problems as I do right now. However, I have no idea if I have the same problem as them, and I would be grateful if someone walked me through this. I have a DELL latitude D620 running XP SP3. I use McAfee Total protection 2012.

Basically, in the past month or so, my CPU has been gradually increasing to the point where every couple of seconds it becomes 100%. The computer is still usable, but it overheats signficantly and I want to catch the problem (if there is one) before it becomes worse. The biggest contributers to this problem are services.exe and about 8 different svchost.exe running at once (sometimes ALOT more than that). These typically take up at least 50% of the CPU at any given time.

Hello all,

I've been having this problem for a long time now (2 years) and no matter what I do I can't get rid of it.

My PC will freeze and make very loud buzzing noises a few times a day, even when left idle in the middle of the night it will sometimes wake me up with the buzzing sounds coming out of my headphones.

I'm clueless at this point as for what to do,I replaced my Motherboard,my network adatper, I disabled my sound card, played around with the BIOS settings and nothing works.

There is one way which seems to consistently recreate the freeze & buzzing sound and thats only when I run low graphic games and let me explain:

I can play heavy 3D games with demanding graphics and the PC wont freeze (Actually don't think it ever froze while I was playing a 3D game) however It will freeze after less than 10 minutes if I play a low demanding game like Stardew Valley,League of legends or even when the PC is just Idle or while listening to music on youtube.

I ran Memtest86 and Prime95 and didn't find any errors and the event viewer errors seem to just say its Error 41 which is an unexpected shutdown.

I would really be greatful if someone can help me solve this annoying problem for once and for all,I've been living with it for so long,it makes me paranoid when I'm gonna hear it while listening to music (the sound gets you jumped every time..)

Hi!

I got an iPod for X-Mas and I just downloaded iTunes on my work and home laptop computers. Something is wrong because since then both computers make a very loud noise when I load a CD. It still reads it though but the noise and the vibration are definitely not normal...it seems to be related to iTunes. I searched on-line and read that it could be related to GEARAspiWDM.sys which is installed automatically with iTunes...? I looked for it on my computer and didn't seem to find it...and anyway I'd rather have someone's advice before removing a system file. Any clue?

Thank you and Happy New Year!!!

Have been having boot up problems, going to safe mode to start, in the process I have to turn the power all the way off to get the computer to start, I was getting the usual outage noise when a computer is improperly turned off, now the noise will not stop and the computer will not boot at all.

Answer:XP making continuous loud whirling noise when starting system, no boot up

Sounds to me that maybe its a bios problem . When booting the default place that windows looks to get its startup info from is the HDD. If that was changed, say to cd drive then it would look there. No info there would mean its stuck in limbo. Try searching the site for bios or boot up problems. This situation is far from new and ,hopefully its not your machine, you will find the right solution for you.

Once in a while, my XP loads up without sound.
Most often, I do have sound.
But, when it loads with sound I get a loud banging noise - sometimes one sometimes two, then everytjhing is OK.
Would I ever be able to get it loading without the banging noise(s)?
Much obliged!

Answer:Loud noise, once or twice at start-up.

Obviously, there is a problem. I have no idea what the "banging noise" could be. "Banging" would seem to indicate something is loose and bouncing around in the case.

Hi! I've an Advent Roma and since a few days I can't hear sound anymore from videos & music on my laptop. I've checked the speaker, microphone and other settings and it all looks fine. Also did a restore but still the same.

However, when I started up my laptop this morning I heard the Windows tune and then a very loud, continuous beeping sound. It went away when I pulled my screen closer to the keyboard so I presume it is a hardware issue? Maybe connections that are not wired OK anymore inside the laptop?

Question is if I will be able to use external speakers if it's a hardware issue and do I need to get this fixed before being able to add external speakers?

Answer:Advent Roma laptop loud beeping sound

I would try headphones....you probably have some that will fit...if no sound then probably a driver issue

As for the beep....make-sure the power cable is plug securely into the back.

Startup takes like 5 minutes and you cant do anything other than wait for everything to load. Also today i got a black screen after booting up says unable to verify security options after typing in my username and pass.

Answer:Very slow start up, loud noise

Hi thecompnub,
I'm another member like yourself. I've had similar problems I'd run disc cleanup then defrag the copmputer, then scan it with some anti virus. that should eliminate most problems.
There is also the chkdsk program in windows that will scan you HD for problems. If you open computer and right click on the HD and choose properties it will open a window with tabs. The general tab has disc cleanup and tools has the other three tools you can use. Sometimes you have to restart to run chkdsk after choosing to schedule it restart and it should run. Make sure to choose the scan for and attempt recovery option.

Answer:Loud clicking noise on start up

Hi .

Could be various things.

First thing to check...would be the boot order in the BIOS. Make sure that the hard drive is the 1st boot option.

The loud clicking...is normally considered to be an indication of hard drive problems (if the noise emanates from the hard drive. Soooo...open the case, boot the system...and see if you can do a visual/audial verification of just where the noise might be originating.

Fans (or any other moving parts) can cause noises, as well as case vibration...it only takes a minute to hone in on the origin.

While you have the case open, take a look and see who the manufacturer is and write down the model number of your hard drive. It should be capable of easily being momentarily removed so that you can see this data.

I would like to know how do i reduce the fan noise when i play any games. I doubt its because of there are many dusts in my fan. This laptop is just 1 week old. That loud fan is annoying and worries me and i wonder is there any way i can change the settings of my fan or what do i have to do to reduce the fan noise.

I tried advanced power settings in the Intel Thermal Framework Settings and the system cooling policy and it seems like there is no difference.

I am using HP Pavilion 15 ab-071tx

Intel core 5th gen i7 processor, 2.4Ghz
8GB Ram
GeForce 940M

My bios and windows is all up to date. Any help to the solution would be greatly appreciated thank you.

Answer:Loud fan noise when i start playing any games.

If new I would consider a replacement. Some laptops are just noisy, yours is pretty high end graphics wise and may need the fan to run at high speed when playing demanding games. They generally don't have the best cooling.

Do you have the latest drivers from HP site? There may even be an updated BIOS that addresses the issue.

It started fine when I took the card out. Does this indicate that the card is faulty and that i should ask for a refund?

Answer:computer wont start long beeping noise

hello & welcome to TSF ,

there are steps to installing a video card

you may need to do a memory/ram upgrade

you may need to do a psu (power supply unit) upgrade

you may need to do adjustments to the bios

you have to uninstall your old divers

so what i would do is go to the video card section of this forum and inquire of the proper things that you need to do

Hello everyone, I have had a Thinkpad L560 for a few months. (Upgrades to Windows 10) Yesterday suddenly it crashed and since then everytime I start it there is this extremly loud noise. Like an alarm, I didnt even think it would be possible for a notebook to make a sound that loud.  Sometime the start fails, sometimes it works. If it works and I use the notebook there is a similiar sound but much less loud. However I found out, that when I use the notebook to hear music or do something which would create sound, this weird noise stops for the time. (The music works totally fine. But even if mute it, just playing it mute also stops this weird noise.  I have absolutely no idea what this could be.  Thank you very much for your help.Note: I need this notebook now, to write university work, so I cant exchange it or have it repaired by an expert.

Answer:Beeping noise and flashing light - Satellite A100-200 at Start up

Hi,

stopped your machine immediately or did you installed any stuff before? Did you try to remove the harddrive and if you have 2 RAM modules at least one of it?

If everything fails you will have to give your machine to a local service partner. They will then fix your problem.

I have a Packard Bell EasyNote TJ68 with 4.00GB memory. It's a fairly old computer but I've had this problem since I got the computer and I've finally snapped. When I plug my laptop in to charge, it makes a very loud noise unless I have the speakers on mute. This wouldn't be a problem but my laptop power cable is slightly loosened so if I'm sitting with it on my lap and I'm listening to music, it's always make a horrible noise every time the cable dis or re-connects when I move. I can't for the life of me figure out how to disable this noise. I've gone into sound and power options, and switched everything I saw to mute and still nothing. Please help!

Answer:Loud noise when I plug my laptop in

Probably a screaming capicator...MBoard replacement would be the only way out...unless you pay a shop to disassemble it and replace the bad cap which more than likely would be more than a new board.

I have a friend who has a laptop (inspiron 710m) that's been making some loud/weird/concerning noises. It's about 3 years old and has only started doing this within the past month or so. It sounds like it's coming from the fan area, and it sounds like sort of a vibrating noise, or sounds like something is rapidly hitting something else. My first thought was that it's the fan, either off-balance or dirty, but what do you guys think? She said it stops doing it if the laptop is at an angle, which kinda supports that theory.

If it was the fan, would blowing it out with compressed air solve it? She said it hasn't been cleaned ever, so I figure it couldn't hurt. Any ideas?

Answer:Laptop loud/strange noise =(

If the fan blades are hitting something solid, blowing it out with compressed air will likely not do anything. If the noise alters at different angles, it may be the fan's bearings going out. Often you can find replacement fans on eBay, or search online for make/model.

I also tried to find any faults using a registry checker and couldnt find any although I am not pretty sure which is the best registry cleaner to be used. I also find that sometimes the laptop beeps just once before it unfreezes.

But it works fine when when I am not using the applications that need internet like listening to music, watching movies from hard drive or playing games without going online. So, I would guess it would be related to modem, video drivers etc. but i couldnt find a registry cleaner which can find which drivers are out of date and things like that.

Will some1 please be able to help me out here?

So i was using my Compaq Evo N620c laptop( Windows XP) and i put it on stand by. When i came back, i started the laptop up and it started making a really loud high pitched noise almost like a whistle. I restarted the laptop and it started making the same noise. I went on safe mode and the noise stopped and everything louded perfectly. Than when i went back on my regular account and it started making the noise again. The noise only starts at the blue loading screen for XP. I had this laptop for 2 years and this is the first time this ever happened.

Will the noise stop if I open up my laptop and use a duster ( high pressure air) and i take out all the dust out of my fan and hard drive?

Thank You

Answer:Laptop makes a really loud grinding noise

No way to tell for sure what the noise is coming from with the info provided. Could be a fan, could be a hard drive. I suggest you go ahead and try blowing the dust out with canned air through the cooling vents. Use short bursts instead of a continuous blast. First blow air into the exhaust port first, then into the intake port. Repeat until no more dust appears.

Try one thing first... mute the sound. Audio hardware can do some strange stuff.

I had closed my laptop cover a few minutes before (or maybe much less?) so it was in some state of hybernation. When I opened it, I pressed the power button and it made such a loud, high-pitched noise that it was piercing and my ears are still ringing from it.

Any ideas? I timidly started it up and it seems to be working just fine. I'm backing it up now.

Thanks, Peter

I have had my HP Pavilion m3-u001dx for about 3 months now, and there is a problem with it that has finally arisen to my attention. During basic use of the internet and even when the computer is not overheating, the fan is constantly working and creating a loud noise (it sounds very similar to this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QkCLubSukzI ). Only once or twice has it every operated silently, and usually the noise comes back after 10 minutes. Once the device even boots up the noise begins. The device is fully updated and relatively new, so I do not think it is dust cluttering the fan or the heat sink.  I use wireless internet, and there haven't been any software/driver changes, so I am unaware of what could be the problem.

Hello,

I have an MSI GE62 2QD Apache Pro laptop. My laptop has recently been making a very loud sound, I'm pretty sure it's coming from the fan. Using the MSI Dragon gaming center, I've been observing the function of the fan. When the loud noise isn't coming, the Fan1 runs at ~4800 RPM, when the noise occurs, Fan 1 drops down to about ~2300 RPM. The sound also occurs when I use the "Cooler Boost" button or tilt the laptop.

I'm not sure what to do to make the noise go away, I'm not sure if buying a compressed air cleaner would help, or if I need to open up my laptop and see what more needs to be done.

Thank you

My computer recently started buzzing randomly, nothing was running on the computer nor was it running at a high temperature.

This is a Lenovo Y-50-70 and the buzzing appears to be coming from the right side and has persisted through a restart.

Sometimes when doing activity like opening a program or listing to music my laptop starts to make beeping noises, sometimes one time, another time multiple beeps in a row.
The laptop is fairly new 4 months old with windows 10 installed.
Note that it also bleeped when 8.1 was running

Answer:Acer aspire E15 laptop making beeping noises

Are the beeping noises coming from inside the laptop? If so I would take it to be serviced since it's only 4 months old and should still be under warranty.

Dell Inspiron 3721 - 3 yrs old, running Windows 10  Started making loud clicking noise when trying to boot - sometimes it would boot, sometimes I had to try and restart a few times. It clicks about once per 1 or 2 seconds, then never starts up.

Answer:Laptop makes loud clicking noise when trying to boot

Hi Janbiv2
Thanks for writing to us.
Please run diagnostics from f12 menu and observe for any clicking noise during test.
The noise could be either from fan or from the HD.
You can remove the HD and try on another machine if possible or try another HD on this machine.
Also run the machine without the HD and observe if the noise stops.
Do keep us posted about the test results.

hi. i have a Toshiba Satellite A300D-15B, and it has just starting occassionally making a loud screeching noise, coming from almost the bottom, almost in the middle (not the side where the fan is). When this happens, the laptop then starts to struggle a bit, and sometimes freezes, sometimes leading to a crash.

is this a hard drive issue? what course of action may i need to take in order to correct this problem?

any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a lot,

Gary

I got Counter Strike Global Offensive on my laptop, and as soon as it started running this very high pitched deafening sound started coming from my mic. I cannot seem to fix it.

Answer:I got CSGO on my laptop and now it makes a loud feedback noise

Does the noise continue when you use the mic with anything else that has recording/mic capabilities?

If it does, then there something wrong with the microphone. If it doesn't the it is probably with the game.

Well, the problem could be that upon launching "CSGO" your mic is automatically adjusted to be the at its highest sensitivity.

To fix this, please do the following.

1. Load "Steam", then go into "SteamApps".
2. Next click "Common", then select "CounterStrike:GO"
3. Click on "CSGO", then "CFG" and finally "config".
4. Open the "config" with Notepad or Notepad++
5. Now, in Notepad, click on "Edit" and then "Find Next".
6. Type the following in the "Find Next" window... voice_mixer_volume "1.0"
7. Change it to the ammount you want.
1.0 = 100%
0.50 = 50%
0.25 = 25%

8. Now save the "config" file.

You sould no longer have the problem.

Hello,

My CD drive is making loud noises. This doesn't occur all the time. For example,I'm watching a DVD - Criminal Minds Season 4 and it allowed me to watch the episodes fine but when I tried to watch a deleted scene, it made this loud grinding noise and it wouldn't stop even when I clicked stopped in Windows Media Player. It only stopped when I removed the DVD.

This also occurred when I was watching another DVD, I was trying to skip through it and it made that loud grinding noise again but it still played after it got to where I wanted it to be. But with the Criminal Minds DVD, it won't work even when I leave the DVD grinding to see if it'll go to the deleted scene.

I don't understand what's going on. I barely used it before but now it's acting up. I never dropped my laptop or hit it.

I'm attaching the sound it makes. I hope there's a way I can fix this on my own.

Btw, the deleted scene worked on my sister's Toshiba laptop. It made no loud noises. It was smooth.

Edit: Here is the sound it makes. https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resi...int=file%2cm4a It's the one named DVD drive

Answer:Asus Laptop CD Drive Makes Loud Grinding Noise

A DVD drive will make noise. Whirring and a little bit of clunking and ticking are normal, but a solid grinding sound does not sound good. You may have to replace that DVD drive.

I have a problem with my Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop.
When I put a CD in the drive, it makes a loud noise and the laptop vibrates. However, this only happens when I put a CD-RW disc in the drive. When I put another CD in, such as an audio CD, it doesn't make this noise.
Does this suggest the CD/DVD drive needs replacing?

Answer:Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop - CD/DVD Drive loud noise

Steveu9,
You can try other types of media in the drive to see if the noise remains. At the link below is an option to run the diagnostics on the drive to see if it is faulty. You must have a disk in the drive to perform the diagnostics.  Also, at the the link below under the drivers section are  cd/dvd firmware downloads. To determine which drive you have in the computer you can click on the configuration tab on the site or input your system service tag. This will show you the hardware information for your computer. You can then choose to download and install the firmware. I cannot verify that updating the firmware will resolve the noise issue.  If you determine that the drive is faulty and you want to replace it. You can call the the dell spare parts dept. The number to call is 1-877-717-3355
