How to fix switching between users accounts? HELP!

Question: How to fix switching between users accounts? HELP!

I have created a second Administrator user account without password but gave it a different name. Now I have 2 Administrator user accounts named ?Greyvaio? which is the original one and the new one named ?MyVaio?.The computer is laptop Vaio with XP professional. When I start the computer it opens with latest user account I created - the one named ?MyVaio?.The ussue now is that I have no option to switch between the two users. To do this switching, the Help advise is to Click Start, Click Log Off and Click Switch User. The problem is that when I click Start and Log Off there is no option for switching users (that green square with 2 arrows inside does not appear at all). The only option computer displays is to log off. Then I?ve tried different approach - from User Accounts panel clicked on ?Change the way users log on/off in? order to switch to Welcome screen from which I can select with which account to login. No luck - here popped up this message :?Client services for network has disabled the Welcome screen and Fast User Switching. To restore these features you must UNinstall Client Services for NetWare?.Did search for Client Services and NetWare everywhere in the computer.Find ?NETWARE.DR? in folder C:\Windows\1386and?Netware.drv? in folder C:\Windows\system32Both files are displayed in blue (perhaps because are invisible?)No ?Client Services ? found anywhere. At this stage due to my insufficient computer knowledge I don?t know what else to do.My original disk with XP is damaged and refuses to work, so I have no way to do complete reinstall of everything. Can someone tell me how make switching between users accounts possible /enabling Welcome screen, please?Glen

Preferred Solution: How to fix switching between users accounts? HELP!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi guy's just wondering if it's possible to get windows 7 to switch audio drivers when you switch to another user account.

For eg.. normal speakers device for my personal account and then have my multichannel device (profire 2626) set as default for my other user account 4 studio work.

Atm, if i change it on one account it changes on the other account which is annoying and i'd just like to set default device for each account so i don't have to do this.

Thx

Answer:Switching drivers when switching users?

I don't think this is really possible since the sound settings apply globally. I'm curious why you want to do this, though...

If a user sign on with the Life account will not be able to access the local resources that uses Local ID & password? There most be a way to login to the local account and have It linked to the Life account automatically (no switching)... when I sign on to the local account I have access to my network shares (at home in a workgroup with 10 other PC and macs sharing external drives using the same LOCAL user name and passwords and never have to type a password to access them, till Win8). When logged in as Local I get a message if I try to access some Life resource like SkyDrive and shopping, OK now I have to switch account to do that, but if now I try to access my local network drive I just get an error !! (that can not be right) I don't like switching back and forward and I'm sure my customers will not either, but at least give me a message to switch back to my local account, hanging or error can NOT be the way. Can any one provide a solution? Thank you.. Summary: I like to sing on to my local account 100% of the time and have windows link me Life account (like always by memorizing by id and password) and do the exchange automatically, after all is my computer. :-)

Answer:Switching Accounts Q&A

I've found no fix thusfar.

It seems they COULD implement it as they did for Flickr.

I'm logged in with a LOCAL account but was given permission to allowed/set the parameters on that
satellite site to obtain unfettered access to Flickr photos in the Photo Preview App.

Metro Live Mail Preview App works that way also, without issues.

So that SkyDrive DEMANDS a "Live Logon" is baffling to say the least.

since I got married recently, I now have a new last name. In the process of switching everything over, I have switched from my old gmail account, [email protected] to a new one, [email protected] I have of course set my old account to forward everything to my new one, and I will be notifying everyone in my contact list of the change... but I would like to import the contact list to my new account. I looked through Gmail's help section, but it was not as helpful as I'd hoped, so I am now hoping that someone here will be able to help me.

Anyone...?

Answer:Switching gmail accounts

When in Gmail click SHOW ALL at bottom right of Contacts list, you will be shown all your contacts, then in top right corner you will see Export, click that and choose Google Mail CSV > Export.

Open your new Gmail up and click SHOW ALL under Contacts and click Import this time and Browse for the location you saved the google-mail.CSV and click Import Contacts.

Hello there

A couple of years ago, me and a few mates organised a charity fundraising challenge, and we set up a gmail account to handle any enquiries etc that came in to us. As the primary organiser that account has now become my default gmail account, and is linked to Blogger, Docs, Picasa etc. Is it possible to set up another gmail account (i.e. one in my own name, rather than in the name of the challenge) so that it becomes the primary account for these various services? I have googled about but the results are confusing. I don't want to bodge it and lose access to my Google services!

Any help appreciated!

Ken

I've had my Yahoo! Mail account for about 4 years now, but I started using Gmail, and I like it more, plus my Yahoo! Mail account get's spammed too much.

My Yahoo Mail account has a lot of important emails, is there any way I can, somehow, import all my folders and contacts to my gmail account? Or do I have to do it all manually? (Because I have literally 200 emails saved on that account).

Anyone with experience or advice on how to login with my MS account as standard again?

I have had a Dell computer with Microsoft on it for a long time, and have had everything on it connected to my Microsoft account and had many files on my OneDrive account. I misunderstood the way in which OneDrive worked though, and decided to download
DropBox to back up my files. I think DropBox uninstalled OneDrive when I downloaded it. So I redownloaded OneDrive and when it got to the step where I could choose either "Personal" or "school or business", it would not let me click personal
so I clicked school. I then was not allowed to log on with my usual Microsoft account that had all of my files on it and had to open my school account, so now I have no files on my OneDrive account. I can still log on to my personal onedrive account online,
but when I go to "This PC" and look at my files there, if I click on OneDrive it takes me to my school account. I want to get rid of that so that everything is only connected to my personal account. The rest of my computer is still connected to my
personal Microsoft account.

I share my laptop with my wife; I have an admin account and she is a standard user.

We have a consistent but intermittent problem switching between user accounts using the fingerprint reader. Most of the time, one swipe of a finger properly changes accounts. At least every other day, however, if I've been using the computer then she switches to her account to check something, then I swipe to change back, "Hello" changes to my picture and name but tells me the password is incorrect.

At that point, we're stuck. Ctrl-Alt-Del doesn't do anything. I don't have an option to use my password. If she swipes, it will change back to her picture and name, but tells her the password is incorrect also. Each of us in turn swiping results in the same problem, no matter how many times we try.

The only solution is to shut down the computer and reboot. At that point everything works normally again for a while. If this was an "every time" problem it would be bad, but since it only happens every 5 or 6 times we switch users, it's even more annoying.

Using build number 10240. I can't find any other reports of similar issues. Anyone have an idea?

I have two users on my windows10.
One account relates to my outlook while the other is without outlook id, so when i turn on my PC the user account that is without outlook id automatically sign-in's to the PC without poping up the screen which shows both the user names... from which i can select the account which i want to connect to at that time.

Answer:User accounts switching problem

Hello engrbilal, and welcome to Ten Forums.

If you wanted to see the sign-in screen with both accounts listed, then here's a couple of things below to check:

1) The local account without an email address has a password added to it.

2) Make sure that you have Windows not set to automatically sign in to an account at startup.

When I try to just switch users, the welcome screen flashes to my desktop and then back to the welcome screen and won't let me do anything else until I log off the original user. I have the fast user switch active and have confirmed that the RPC, fast user switch and terminal services are on and on automatic. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Answer:Switching user accounts problem

Fast User Switching won't work in every situation.

- The Welcome screen must be enabled.
- The computer must not be joined to a domain.
- Offline files must be disabled.

Hi guys,

I did a search on this topic but found nothing. I have had Comodo Firewall installed on my PC for around 3mths now with no serious problems to report. It has been updated to the latest version since last weekend. I find it an excellent Firewall and relatively easy to use.

My daughter and I share this PC (both administrative accounts) and I have noticed that when I sign in after my daughter has been on the PC I get the little Windows warning shield in my taskbar telling me that Comodo is switched off and no firewall is working. When I then hover the mouse over the task bar icons there is no response and it takes around 15-20 seconds before any text appears and then I get the normal "Your computer's security level is set to 'custom'. All systems are up and running" message and the windows warning disappears and everything works as it should again.

My Windows firewall is switched off so there shouldn't be any conflict. I am sure that this is more than likely some sort of glitch with Windows but has anyone else ever encountered this and is there a solution?. I worry that my PC is unprotected even if only for a few seconds.

I tend to use the switch user function rather than logging off although I have tried it both ways and still get the same warning each time.
Thanks in advance,
Bluesjunior.

Answer:Firewall Switching Off When Changing Accounts.

hi bluesjunior, I also use the Comodo wall and love it. I too do see that momentary warning. Only since the last update. I'm waitng an answer from them. I feel it's nothing more than it just reloading to a new set of rules when you switch. As it comes right back everytime. I also see when I start up my Pc. Just that moment when it loads it says off ,but loads in the correct setting in a second or two. In other words I don't thik it's actually disconnecting as much as reapplying settings. I'll let you know the answer I get.

I was wondering if there was a way to avoid login when switching between accounts. I have things set up so I automatically login when I start the computer and when I awake from sleep.

But if my wife is using the computer and switches to her account, when I switch back, I have to sign in.

I could, I suppose change mine to a local account (like hers), but is there a way to do it with a microsoft account?

Hi Bkshiroman,

I do not believe there is away of natively doing this, it makes sence for not to be able to do this for security reasons.

Although you might be able to use software such as DUST:

Could someone please tell me how to change my default email? I am using Incredimail but want to switch back to outlook express and I don't know how to change outlook to my default.

Answer:Solved: Switching Default email accounts

What OS are you using??
In win XP go to Start>All Programs>Set Program Access And Defaults (Normally at the top above a spacer) then look for a click on the drop down arrow by "Custom".
There should be a section saying "Choose A Default E-Mail Program:" select Outlook Express under this.
If you can't find this go to "Control Panel>Internet Options" click on the "Programs" tab and click on the drop down arrow by "E-Mail" (or similar) select Outlook Express and click OK.

Does anyone find that when logging out and switching user accounts that edge then has a tendency not to launch. For example I might be logged in, use everything such as edge etc. Then I log out, my wife logs in, she tries to launch edge but nothing happens/opens. It's easily fixed by launching task manager and killing the edge process that the failure still opens. Then an attempt to launch edge is fine. You definitely switched your local account to a Microsoft account.

You can use Option 3 in the tutorial below on any computer to reset your Microsoft account password online at Microsoft. Once you have successfully reset your password, it may take a while before it syncs to the computer you are locked out of while it has an Internet connection.

I have a dell dimension C 21 pc with windows XP home edition service pack 2 which I have had for some months now. I have the free edition of AVG. We are 2 users, I am the main user and my partner is the second user. A problem frequently arises when he switches to his"area" in that an AVG box comes up for updating but then freezes . He then tries to shut it down gets the message "this program is not responding click on end or cancel" so we can't get rid of it.
I have spoken to the Dell help line who a) want to charge me for any advice as they say this is nothing to do with the hardware, and only the hardware is guaranteed when I complain about this they say I have to get rid of AVG and that only Macafee, which they put on for 90 days and I got rid of, will work.Any ideas on how to cure this it is quite annoying and he is getting quite fed up with it.

I would probably try uninstalling and then reinstalling AVG to see if that fixes the problem.

Everytime I try to switch between a user in XP pro without logging off my computer slows to a crawl. I would have to hit the reset button and restart. It runs pretty quick otherwise. It has a 120 gb harddrive, 256 mb of ram and a atlon processor 3100+. Has anybody experience this before. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Basically something must be wrong it should not perform like this.

Answer:Switching between Users in XP Pro

Got the Problem solved. For some reason it seem to have been some kind of spyware. I installed and ran super ad blocker and I don't have the problem anymore.

Question: switching users

Not able to switch users, just created a new user with limited access and when trying to switch users I get this.

"Windows cannot log you on because your profile cannot be loaded. Check that you are connected to the network, or that your network is functioning correctly. If this problem persists, contact your network administrator.
DETAIL - The system cannot find the file specified."

I am not on a network, I connect to the Internet via cable.
I tried loading a fix for this called, "UPHClean-Setup". Supposed to free resources or something like that. Didn't work. I havn't had any users on this machine before. I am the administer and alway boot to this.

Question: switching users

Ihave a problem swith between account users.

when i first log on everything is fine and logging off is o.k. the problem arises when you log onto a new user and try to log off. It wont let you log off.

The only way is by using ctrl, alt, del and manually logging off.

I have recently installed a wireless internet connection and with the connection being on all the time i wondered if that might be the problem.

I disconnected the connection and everything worked as normal.

Is there a way that you can stay online while switching between users?

Any help would be greatly apreciated....Many Thanks

Answer:switching users

Try enabling fast user switching, if you haven't already done so. I don't know if this will fix it, but it's worth a shot. Or if it's enabled try disabling it.

In the past, I could switch users on the computer simply by clicking Start->log off->switch user and the user I was switching from could keep all of their windows and applications while I used my user setting. Okay so I have a computer that three people use, so we have profiles. I'm usually downloading things and when they log off, this is terminated. I'd like to be able to have it so they can go on the computer and I can keep downloading. So the feature I'm looking for is switch users. The problem is; It's not anywhere in sight. I was using the classic theme for both the icons of folders, and the start menu (all programs in stead of programs, etc). I would be fine with switching to the default look if it enabled me to switch users.

I just realized that I can't even change the look back to default. Can anyone help with either problem? (changing back to the default look, and being able to switch users)

Here are possible things that I've done:
Start>Shut Down> Than from here there is Log off, Restart, Shutdown, Standby. No switch.

When I try to go back to the default view I do this.
Right Click on Start>Properties> The option should be here but it's not.

Answer:Switching users... Can't do it.

Is "Use Fast User Switching" checkmarked in the User account under control panel?? If it's on..you should get the "Switch User" listed when you click Start..Log Off. There is also a registry tweak that will keep your internet connection active while switching users. Do so at your own risk as you will be editing and adding a value to the registry.

Here's how if you want to attempt.

1. Click Start, click Run and type REGEDIT and hit Enter (or click OK)
2. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows NT/ CurrentVersion/Winlogon
3. Right-click an empty space in the right-hand pane, and from the menu
Select New > String value
4. Name the new value KeepRASConnections (it's important that you use upper and lower-case letters exactly as shown)
5. Right-click the KeepRASConnections value, and choose Modify from the menu
6. Enter 1 as the Value data
7. Close the registry editor
8. Restart Windows for the changes to take effect

Anyone notice that edge refuses to launch if you switch user accounts and then log out and go back into your user account? It quite often happens that I'll be logged in using the PC, my wife will then quickly log in. When finished I'll re login into mine where upon clicking edge does nothing. Very easily fixed by going into task manager and ending the process. After that it's fine but it's something I noticed. A minor quirk at least on my machine anyway and something that I guess in time may be ironed out

Very odd behavior after the Anniversary Update: when I try to switch from another user to my primary user account, there is a long lag, either right before the password screen or right after the password is entered, when the screen goes dark.

This only happens when switching to the primary user account, not when switching to other user accounts.

I'm using a Dell XPS 8900 with Windows 10 Home Premium.

Answer:Screen goes dark for several minutes while switching user accounts

HGilbert, did you ever find a resolution to this issue? Just yesterday, I set up a Dell XPS 8910 with Windows 10 Pro on the Anniversary Edition. When I switch from my Admin User Account to a local limited user account, the switch is quick. When I try to switch back from the local limited user account to my Admin User Account, the screen goes black for 60 seconds before the switch is completed. So, like you, the slow switching issue only occurs when switching to the primary (admin) user account.

Anyone out there have a similar issue & can offer some suggestions as to how to resolve this as it is a real PITA!

Thanks in advance for any assistance in resolving this frustrating issue.

Hi all,
OS: Windows XP Pro.
The "Fast Switching" between user accounts is no longer working, (for ~ 9 months now).
In the ""User Accounts" both the "Use Welcome screen" and the "Use Fast User Switching" options are selected.
When selecting Start>Log Off> Switch User, I get a "computer locked" pop-up. the current User name is shown in the User Name line . It demands the associated user's Password and then completely logs off the current user; closing all files that had been open.
This is a real PITA when another user wants to get on briefly to check email or whatever.
Any suggestions for correcting this issue?
Thanks!

Hi, I have also posted this on the TN forums so apaologies if anyone is reading this a second time but the wider I cast the net and all that......

I have stumbled upon a big problem for me and wonder if it is a bug or by design.

I have a microsoft account that I was using for insider and testing and recently upgraded my machine to RTM. Machine is fine in every sense apart from one thing. I wanted to unlink my account and associate my account with a different Microsoft account.

Old account example [email protected]

new account example [email protected]

To do this I specifically wish to retain my actual account in Windows (i.e. same profile) as I have a lot of software and other things I don't want to set up again under a new profile. So...... I unlinked my MS account and converted the profile on my computer to a local account (e.g. name = foobar).

I then rebooted. Just to be sure I went in to [email protected] at login.live.com, went to the account settings and removed the machine from the list of devices associated with the account.

I then went into settings on teh machine and chose to link the account to a microsoft account. This time to [email protected] It asked me for the password for the second microsoft account, asked me for my local account password and then told me that all was good and I had to logoff and back on again for it to take effect. I did so and low and behold the account associated with the profile i... Read more

Got a problem that I have not encountered before. My little used Compaq Presario died again so I pulled the hard drive out and disposed of the carcass. Then I picked up a P3 lease return w/o a drive in it. I put my drive in and started it up. Windows wouldn't load...said some dll was missing. I figured if one was corrupted there were probable others and just reinstalled XP Pro over it. I can't do a clean install because I have no way to back up any data on my drive just yet.

Anyway, this is not the first time I have installed XP but this time, when we attempted to switch between users, it asked for a password and would not go any further. Naturally, I did not have any passwords set up at that point. In order to switch users, we have to reboot the system. That pretty much defeats the purpose of being able to switch back and forth between users so I would really like to get this fixed.

I checked under CtrlPanel>Power>Advanced and found that Fast Switching was enabled and there was a check mark beside 'Prompt for Password". I removed the check mark but it didn't change anything, it still wants a password to get in.

My XP Pro does not yet have SP2 on it. I do not know any specs for this computer either. And I find that the drive was loaded with bugs and hidden goodies. I reinstalled AdAware and Spybot, updated and then ran them both. AdAware found over 500 items to get rid off and Spybot took over an hour to run. I do not kno... Read more

Hello, i recently removed a virus with the help of one of the mods of this forum by using combofix, my computer sped up greatly but now i find when i try to switch users it takes from around at the minimum 5 minutes to switch and the max around 8 or 9 mins.

I am using windows Vista Business, 2.6Ghz Core 2 Duo Processor and a sufficient amount of ram (in my opinion anyways - 3gigabyte ram).

Could i have some help in solving this issue and trying to get it back to its normal 5-15 seconds user switch? The waiting time can get tedious when i switch users and its really annoying!

Help would be great appreciated!

Thanks,

Have you tried disabling and then re-enabling fast user swithching this will hopefully re-write some of the settings and hopefully solve your problem.

Disable it using the control panel, then restart your machine.

Then re-enable it and again restart your machine.

Two problems :
1. With W7, as say User 1, I could listen to music or BBC radio via the internet. If I switched to User 2, the music or radio opened as User 1 would continue to play and be heard as User 2. With W10, switching users cuts out any music or radio opened as User 1. Are the listening features under W7 available under W10?
2. With W7, I could copy from documents or spreadsheets opened under User 1 and paste into documents of spreadsheets as User 2. This feature does not work in W10. Can this be fixed?

I have set up 2 users; 1 as administrator (me) and 1 for my wife. It is a home computer and we do not require password protection. I am the normal user and have managed to set up so that I login within having to enter password.
However when my wife uses the computer the Start-up screen is me and my wife has to switch user. When she does this she has to enter her her password.
Is it possible to set-up so that she can simply switch user without her passport

Answer:Switching Users without password

Hello Polterry, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Since you have more than one user account on the computer, you might consider using the tutorial below to set to always show all users at sign in instead of the last user. Since you do not have a password, it would sign in to your account automatically if you were the last one that signed out. Having it set to all users, will instead have the sign in screen show with all user accounts to select to sign in without having to switch user.

Sign in - Show All Users or Last User in Windows 8
If your wife doesn't have a password, she should be able to just select her account to sign in.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

For some reason, if I log on to my account (an administrator account), then log off, none of the other users (my husband's admin. account or the kids' limited user accts) can be signed on. XP sits on the welcome screen for an unusually long time, then goes to just the user's wallpaper screen (no icons, no taskbar, nothing). Can't pull up task manager or warm boot, have to shut down & restart. I can log on any of the other accounts, and log off, and switch to mine, but not vice versa. Even if I don't do ANYTHING after signing on. So, the problems seems to be with my account settings somehow.

This is a new problem -- actually, my husband (who notices it most, because I use the PC most of the time, and then when he tries to get on at night, can't) says it was happening itermittantly, but now happens every time.

Any ideas?

TIA,
M

You know the sound that the computer makes when you click on start-> Log Off -> Switch User? It's a specific sound like when you turn off your computer or when you restart your computer, or when you log in to your computer. That "Windows" sound. Well for me, that sound has disapeared everytime switch users. My normal sound is okay, and the log off/log in sounds are still there, but for some strange reason, my Switch User sound is gone. I was just wondering what caused this, it's not really a big deal, but I am just curious as to what happened.

Answer:Switching Users Sound

Don't know why it stopped, unless some one disabled it or deleted the file.
You can reset/select the sound you want here:
Control Panel | Sounds and Audio Devices
Sounds Tab
Last two items under the Windows section are Windows Logoff and Windows Logon
Files are usually in the Windows\Media folder:
Windows XP Logoff Sound.wav
Windows XP Logon Sound.wav

I use to be able to switch users on AOL and see how many e-mails each user had, along with their sign on names. Now working with Windows 7 and I can't see all my AOL usernames. Does anyone have a solution for this?

Answer:Switching users to sign in to AOL

Take off the training wheels, drop AOL and really use the internet. Your ISP can offer you a number of email accounts, or you can use gmail, yahoo, or other free email accounts out there. No one really needs AOL anymore. When AOL was first around, the pure internet was scary for many so AOL put in place simple controls and hid much of went on behind. Long before even XP came around the internet and browsers became more friendly (as long as you had a good antivirus program) and easier to use, basically making AOL obsolete. Today, there is really no reason to use it any longer. Try it with Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, or others. Email accounts can be web based where you log in through your browser similar to the way you probably do today, or one that uses an email client like Outlook, Windows Mail, and Mozilla Thunderbird to name a few where you open your email program and it downloads your emails for you and you keep them on your computer. Thunderbird has options for independent multiple email accounts as well as multiple accounts that feed into a single inbox. You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

I have created her user account, but whenever i try and switch users it hangs at a Red screen, sometimes with a box saying "Applying personal setting Internet Explorer 6".

What am i doing wrong? Do i have to log my account off first before switching over?

Help!

Answer:Problems switching users

Well, I think it is because of the available memory on your computer. What are your computer's specs?

Try logging off your account, and then signing into hers. If it's the first time she's signing in, it can take a long time for all the new user settings to be created.ie. the internet explorer 6 is being installed... leave it alone for like 10-30min and see what happens.

Hi All

What would cause a computer to take several minutes when logging off one user and then logging into another user? Takes several minutes. Computer shutdown one time and ever since then it takes along time when switching users. Other than that the computer runs ok. The computer is networked to a domain.

Thanks, Doug

Answer:XP Pro very slow switching between users.

I Am running Win7 64 bit. Whenever I switch user accounts the computer will start the switch and then lock up with a display message that says no signal on the monitor. It happens if the computer has been running for hours or only a couple of minutes. I have to shut the PC off and leave it off for 20-30 minutes. I can then restart and enter any user account. But if I try to switch user or logoff and pick a different user the whole cycle begins anew. Can anyone here help me?

Brian

Answer:Switching Users Problems

No signal to the monitor seems more like a graphics problem. Check and make sure your drivers are up to date. Also, run scannow system file checker. That will check the system files. See if either of these help.

I've had this problem for a long time now. Every once in a while I will set out on a google quest to find the answer but I haven't succeded yet

The problem is that whenever I "switch user" (win + L) out of my account for someone else to log on their account, when they try logging off, my monitor acts like if I was putting the computer into sleep mode. That is, it goes black and some messages come up on the screen saying the usual "check power etc" messages and the light flashes. The computer continues to run and there is no way of restoring my screen so I am forced to press the main power button on the computer tower.

I am running windows xp professional sp 2
My video card is nvidia geforce fx 5500
Pentium 4 3.00GHz
1BG RAM
I run zone alarm and AVG in the background

I have not always had this problem. I don't remember when it started but it has been a long time now (I would say at least 6 months.)

Appreciate any suggestions or information...

I've been having a problem where when I switch users from another account and start using iTunes, it keeps playing the error/prompt sound that I hear for the other account. When the other account user switches back, they find a lot of prompts saying that "iTunes cannot be opened because another user has it open", despite the fact that they didn't have iTunes running.

If I terminate the other user's process through Task Manger -->View Processes from all users, it stays off for about 2-3 minutes before coming back on, playing the annoying prompt sound and displaying the pile of prompts.

is there any way to get around this?

I have been working on a friend's PC -- an hp pavilion (a527x) that's running WinXP-SP2. I just spent days cleaning all the spyware off of it, & finally got an OK from Chaslang that it was clean! However, I'm getting ready to return it, & now when I log off from one user & click on the 2nd user to change desktops, the monitor just goes black with a flashing cursor for a few seconds. Cannot get anything else to come up on the monitor then, & haven't had any trouble with the monitor or any other hardware up to this point. I turned off "hibernate", etc...in "Power Options" in the Control Panel. Any ideas here as to the cause? PC is running fine otherwise. Although can't seem to get MyWayWebSearch spyware off of it. Have tried all help in "Anti-Spyware" page. Anyone had this happen before to them or anyone know a possible cause & solution? Thanks bunches, in advance! Shannon

Answer:Switching users & desktops?

Create a new user account, move all the personal folders in the mal-functioning one to the new account thru explorer, delete the mal-functioning one.

Over the course of the last few months, I have been experiencing issues logging into my office computer from home as there has been other individuals logging in at my work station using the "Switch User" option. This creates issues for me logging in from home. Locking the computer does nothing to prevent Switching Users. Is there any way to make my Windows 10 computer at work only usable by me....ie, making Switching Users not possible? Thank you in advance.

Answer:Can I Prevent Switching Users?

Hello Markaz,

You could use the method in the tutorial to also remove the switch user option in Windows 10 to see if that may help.
