TV earphones and speakers at same time?

Question: TV earphones and speakers at same time?

I'm passing my 10-yr-old Sony 27in CRT TV to my old Dad, who's rather deaf. I would like to give him some headphones to use with it (it has a headphone socket) but when you insert the jack, this cuts off the speakers. My Mum doesn't think much of that!Is there any way that I could get the phones and the speakers to work at the same time? The TV has a variety of sockets and interfaces, but I don't really know what they all do. It has two SCART sockets. Thanks for any advice and ideas.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: TV earphones and speakers at same time?

You can get SCARTS with a breakout of the sound cables. These could be wired to the headphones by way of an adapter. You need to look at the SCARTS on the TV and find which is an output (or Input/Output) - there should be an arrow moulded in to tell you.Look here for suitable adapters, or search around Maplins, or the local TV hereWhich one to use may depend on the headphone connections.

Yeah, I'd make sure you have the latest drivers for your sound card and I've heard that sometimes the video driver can cause sound issues as well.

I am trying to install Dragon Naturally Speaking(dictation software) on my computer  - which is a state of the art desk top running windows 7. The problem is straightforward: I already have external desktop speakers for music and videos. Dragon Naturally Speaking is a dictation system that requires a headset with microphone and earphones. When I plug in the headset, it preempts my desktop speakers whether or not the Dragon software is turned on or off. The vendor of Dragon says the only way to hear my external speakers is to unplug the headset whenever I want to listen to the speakers. Given the location and configuration of the desktop, this is inconvenient in the extreme. Anybody know of a software or wiring solution?

Answer:How do I use both earphones and speakers on a desktop computer?

My laptop has separate plugs for MIC and EAR.I have no problem using both speakers and MIC at the same time. Just do not plug in the EAR plug. Just use MIC.

Hi F,
Welcome to Lenovo Forums.
We are really sorry to hear about the issue you are facing.
Follow the below steps:
In your notification panel, right click the speaker > playback device. Right click the speaker you want and set it to default device. It should be High Definition Audio Device. If this doesn't work, then go to device manager. Uninstall and reinstall the sound drivers. Click here for latest audio drivers.
Hope this helps. Let us know how you get on.

I have a Lenovo G510, and many times (most of the times) when I plug earphones or speakers to the 3.5mm jack, the audio stops, and a red X appears on the Speakers icon in the notification area, and I have to press Solve problem and then it detects that the speakers stopped working (I will try to get the accurate error next time), and only then the audio returns.
( It's a combo jack - speakers and mic - why do they do it, I have no idea )

What can I do?

(I did factory reset and that did not help)

Answer:Audio stops when plugging earphones / speakers to 3.5mm

Yesterday i was watching Housos, and suddenly my audio cuts out on my earphones,
i take them out see whats going on and the speakers work perfectly,

so i try and muck around with the cord like normally (the headphone jack is weird, only lets me use the right side of earphones, no matter what ones i use)

so i have restarted my laptop, used different earphones and tried looking around audio settings in sound/hardware.

Can anyone help me out please, i need to use them Right now and don't know what to do :L

Answer:Satellite L850 - Earphones not working but speakers do

You said you used different headphones therefore I assume it?s not headphone malfunction.
Can you confirm this?

Usually the first check should be done in control panel -> sound -> playback tab

After the headphone has been connected, an additional entry (headphones) should appear and you should be able to mark this as default device.

In case this is not possible, you should try something related to the sound driver.
First of all go to device manager and expand the area called +Sound, Video and Games Controller.+

Here you will find two entries. Delete it from the list.
Then go to area ?System devices?. Look for High Definition Audio and delete it too.
Now its time to reboot the notebook.

During the system reboot, Windows OS would recognize the deleted devices.
Wait until the devices have been recognized.
Then connect the headphones and check if you could use it properly.

Is BOSE the best? if not, who is?
Price does not matter.

Answer:Does BOSE make the best Headphones/Earphones/Speakers?

It will vary with Taste - I'm a Bose Fan big time, however, I recently purchased the sennheiser noise reduction headphones
I tried the BOSE 3s
I prefer the over ear - rather than on ear
and I also liked the button on the side, so you could hear people without removing the headset, they also work when the batt is flat

so you see user preference

however, I have bose speaker from the 1980s at home for HIFI

I dont like in ear buds

Hi all.

I recently bought a Satellite C850D-107.

My question has probably been asked many times already but when I put my earphones into the earphone socket I still get the sound out of the main speakers not great when you don't want to broadcast the sound to everyone nearby but when I hit mute the main speakers get turned off but I still get sound through my earphones.

Why is this?

(it's not a problem it's just a rather odd thing)

Answer:Satellite C850D-107 - Sound from speakers and earphones

Can this thread be helpful for you??

Go to control panel -> Realtek HD audio manager
In the top right corner, there's a little yellow folder called "Connector Settings?.
There, you can reactivate the setting "Enable pop-up dialog, when device is plugged in".

So now when you plug in an external speaker or headphones, it pops up and you can select the option "headphone" (instead of "line-in"), and then the sound comes out only through the headphones/ext.speaker.

Hi thanks for helping,

sound from speakers works fine, but when I plug earphones or headset into the jackplug(s) the sound still comes out the speakers and no sound in the earplugs/headset.

I have recently bought this as a refurbished pc and have only just tried to use earphones. ie it has never worked properly.

In control panel/sound there are no earphones/headphones devices listed under playback devices. Only speakers (default) and 2 HDMI devices (unplugged)

there is an IDT Audio software program installed

Answer:Solved: plug earphones in but sound still through speakers

What is the exact make / model of the machine?

Are you using a front speaker / headset socket for the headset and a rear socket for the speakers?

Not intending to insult your intelligence but are you definately plugging into the correct socket? It may have multiple speaker sockets (for 5.1 surround for example) which is very common nowadays, if you plug the headset into another speaker socket it will not cut the sound to the speakers already in use (if that makes sense).

Yesterday I started noticing that my computer randomly makes 2 quick noises in a row that sound like sandpaper being scratched together. The first is a longer noise, the second is the same type of noise but abbreviated.

It happens when I am using the computer at random times (maybe every 10 minutes) and also when I am not using the computer, just a few feet away perhaps.

Any ideas? ... This noise is annoying because I have the volume on quite a bit due to medical transcribing w/ sounds files.

Answer:Random strange noise from speakers/earphones

A click or buzz noise that happens every 10 or 15 minutes, could be coming from another electrical device on the same mains wiring, for instance, a fridge, or central heating thermostat.
Each time a fridge motor starts up, it puts a 'spike' of noise into the local mains wiring, which is amplified by items such as Hi-Fi or PC speakers. If that is the case, it is possible to buy for a few pounds (dollars), a small choke that will clip over the mains lead, near the plug, which will cut the interference down.
Also, there are mains extension cables with multiple outlets designed for HI-Fi of PC use, which have spike suppression built in. It is sometimes called 'mains conditioning'.
These are not the same thing as 5 extension 'gangs' !
The prices vary wildly, but here is one I found quickly.
Or try (if in UK)

Also: From past experience with interference in a HIFi system, the problem turned out to be coming from the central heating boiler next door! In that case the fault has to be stopped at source. You might try fitting an RF filter to your speaker or headphone lead. I have a similar 'Choke' on my PC speakers. I bought a DAB radio this year, and a similar device is fitted to the mains adapter. Today when I plugged in my earphones (the apple ones) and there was no audio at all, but somehow it worked totally fine without the earphones. Even realtek detected something when I plugged my earphones, I also went to device manager to check if every driver is updated or not but still ended up no luck.

things i know:
- Audio is perfect without earphones plugged in
- only 'Speakers' is shown as my playback device
- went to device manager and i'm pretty sure all drivers are up to date and enabled
- everything was working fine the last time i booted into my windows10 (dual booting with linux)
- realtek detected my earphone as it popped up a notification saying 'you just plugged a device into the audio jack'

if you need to know more about my computer just ask
please help

Answer:No sound coming out of earphones (ONLY speakers work)

Hey mate,

Find your laptop here: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- ??

download the audio driver for Windows 10, and install it. If it asks, tell it to install or repair. It will first uninstall your audio driver, require a restart, and then install the audio driver. If this doesn't fix it, see if behind the computer (the green audio jack) still works.

Let me know!

A new problem has presented with my T430s recently.  I noticed last night when streaming video that when i plugged in my earbuds the sound continued to project from the integrated speakers as well.  When I want to keep things quiet, but continue to watch video my expectation is that the computer will opt to the ear phones/external speakers when they are plugged in, and as I recall that always happened in the past.  I have only noticed it in the last 24 hours, but haven't used the earphones in a while so it may have been an issue for longer than that. I am running on Windows 7, and the driver for the Real Tech Audio is both up to date and working properly. Any advice to fix the problem would be greatly appreciated. Cheers!

Hi Everybody! Can anyone help me?

I connected my YU Earphones to a friends computer, and I was surprised that I could hear everything from the earphones and Also record from it at the same time!! Whenever I talked into the mic that the earphones have, I could hear my voice in the earphone. He has a Lenovo All in One Computer and Windows 10.

Any guides on how to do the same on my PC?

My earphones are these (WITH A MIC ATTACHED)

Answer:Use Earphones with Mic to record and hear at same time?

Apparently the friend's computer had the required "TRRS" jack, like is used in iPhones and PS4's. However, most PC's only have "TRS" type jacks and the headphone/mic you have will require a "Y" adapter to work.

Here is an example of the adapter needed.

I have done a search and realize there are several threads here that address this, but I haven't been able to solve this. This is the same laptop that I posted a thread about with the bad power button. Not sure if the two are related, since the two problems seemed to crop up around the same time. Anyway, I've tried HP's troubleshooting, but haven't gotten the speakers to work. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers, checked the volume (duh), and attempted to do a system restore. Unfortunately, I didn't realize that system restore had been apparently been disabled for some time, and there were no restore points to choose from. I've googled this of course, and besides the things I've tried, it seems that either the headphone jack switch is stuck or the speakers are dead. Would both speakers give out at the same time? I've tried jiggling/rapidly pulling a headphone plug in and out to dislodge the switch, no dice. Anymore ideas I can try? I've been using external speakers plugged into the headphone jack, but this gets annoying after awhile.

I am currently working on a homemade project in my free time called Project Surround. I am trying to get a full surround sound setup in my room. I have 2 wired speakers in the front and a Bluetooth speaker in the back. The problem is I need both the wired and Bluetooth speakers to play at the same time. Any way I can do that?

Answer:Play Audio from Wired Speakers and Bluetooth Speakers at the same time

Windows only allows one default audio playback device, thus unless you can find some third party app that will allow both, you won't be able to do that. You will need a full surround PC sound system.

Using a 3.5mm stereo mini phone plug to RCA jack adapter I have managed to connect my comps sound to the radio and it works. However, due to a fit of stupidity I have overlooked the fact that only either the radio's speakers or the computer's speakers can be connected to the computer's sound output at once.

I am wondering if its possible to have both my radio's speakers as well as my computer's speakers play at the same time because I would like to achieve a surround sound effect because of the way my room is made. My computer has a jack slot behind that looks like " (<-->)" , almost like that ordinary output one which looks like "(<-). Can that be used as an output slot as well? Cuz when I tried putting the radio into the (<-->) slot and the comps speakers into the (<-) or vice versa, only the one put into the (<-) will play.

Answer:no audio speakers but audio from earphones

Have a thorough read of your mobo manual and you will easily see the problem.

You will notice there is audio in and out for each channel and that the default setting is the in and out jumpered together for each channel in order for the back panel to work.

Some front panel audio sockets are switched so that the speakers plugged into the back will shut off when a headphone is plugged into the front, cheaper ones are not switched.

You will probably need to make or buy 2 Y pieces to allow everything to work properly.

Any solutions?

Answer:Trying to run a USB headset and Speakers at same time

ok so u want to be able to listen to music through the headset while your speakers are on as well?
theres the problem
your computer has one audio out (which is hooked to your speakers) the reason the usb mic works is when that out is disabled it goes to your next default, your usb port.
so basically sound can only come out of one place at one time from ur comp.

I want to use my headphones for things such as firstperson shooters and my speakers for music. I'm using a Realtek AC97 Audio soundcard. It has Pink(microphone), Green(speaker), and Blue(I assume its for secondary audio output) colored ports in the back with nothing in the front. I've played around with the soundcard settings and the volume control in windows(just to make sure everything is unmuted and turned up all the way), but the blue port doesn't make any sound. Can anyone help me find out how to make this possible without buying a splitter for the working one?

Answer:How do I use speakers and headphones at the same time?

Onboard sound is both a blessing and a curse at the same time. Im assuming you are talking about the onboard chip on your board and not a pci card.
Mic - Audio in- and a line out. Its been a while - I think thas close.
I remember I had a ac97 compliant integrated chip a while back.
I didnt have much of a prob with it besides the cpu cycles it ate.
I think you will need some form of pci card (turtle beach or soundblaster) or a soundsystem that offers a port for your headphones with a seperate volume control otherwise your headphones will be blaring the same decibel as your main speakers and be blown apart in a few hours if you do not have an inline volume control on your headset. most models of logitech or klipsich speakers offer headset ports in the main volume control module - however there are much much cheaper options out there then those.

Hope this helps

I have a headphone jack on the front of my computer. Is there any way I can make it so that I can plug in something in the headphone jack and still have the speakers working?

The reason is I have two sets of speakers and I want to use them both (the second set behind me) and have like a quadratic speaker setup but I only have one speaker port.

I know I can use a Y-splitter on the speaker port but I don't have one and the stores are too far away so I don't feel like going right now. I was wondering if there was a setting on my computer that I could change to allow this.

Answer:Speakers AND Headphones At the Same Time

Nope, as soon as you plug into your headphone jack, it's going to disable your rear jacks. The only way I know of is using the "Y" cable you referred too.

Hey i have a CMI 8738 PCI 6.1 sound card, and I also have a AC'97 onboard card (disabled at the moment).

Before i got my PCI card, I was able to use my AC'97 with a headset, (aud_out) a mic (mic_in) and a 2.1 sound system (aux_out). The beauty of this is that i can turn the speakers off (because they have a separate power source), and just use the headset when i need to be quiet. Or i can use the speakers when i'm listening and can be loud.

My mic port shorted out, so i got the new PCI sound card.

Now i'm wondering if I can do the same thing on the new sound card. I'm afraid to test it since I don't know the reason my old card shorted out.

I'm using Xear 3D sound with 3-D CMI Audio Controller.

I would like a usb headset to function at the same time as a pair of speakers. The speakers plug into a 3.5mm jack. And I would also like a microphone, that plugs into a jack, to function at the same time as the microphone on the headset. I have Windows 7. I would appreciate any help, thanks.

Have you considered using the swap screen function in Skype? It allows the person you're chatting with to view your computer screen and (I could be wrong) hear its audio.

I googled it, and i only found results where the users wanted to get rid of that.

Answer:How do i use both headphones and speakers at the same time?

If you are using HDMI for the TV, you can only have one default audio playback device. Either the HDMI output or your "speakers" (PC sound card) which would allow you to use headphones.

This comes up frequently and I don't recall any posted way to get around this.

My HP computer I bought 2 years ago had free speakers with it but they were sub-par, and are very small and low quality in my opinion.

I currently have Insignia Speakers, any good ones you guys know about?

Also, I have a question. Do sound cards make a difference in desktops? I don't know anything regarding speakers, other than you plug them into the hole with the matching color and they produce sound lol

Season's greetings!!

This may have been asked before in the forum (my search didn't show anything), but, for the sake of a more multi-speakered environment, I'd like to be able to hear audio through my laptop speakers as well as through my external amplified speakers at the same time.

It seems silly, I'm sure, but my laptop has a better high end than my old amp'd speakers which have a much deeper take on the audio spectrum, so combining the two balances things out a bit.

I am running a Lenovo X200 Tablet (+ Ultrabase) full spec'd with a Conexant High Definition SmartAudio 221 card. Vista. Let me know if you need more hardware spec.

To be perfectly clear I'll restate what I want from this:
1. To play audio through the internal speakers.
2. To play the SAME AUDIO through the headphone jack at the SAME TIME.
3. NOT to play a separate stream (I do have multistream functionality).
4. NOT to play audio through two separate external devices (which would require a splitter).
5. To avoid the purchase of additional hardware, unless it is some sort of cable.

Just getting some initial confusion out of the way. I've read up as much as possible before posting.

Help! Feel free to be technical; I'm way into the killer advent of computing.

Answer:Speakers and Heaphones at the same time

So, my problem is that both the speakers and the headphones play in my HP laptop at the same time.

When I go into my playback devices I have three options:

1. ATI HDMI Output
2. Speakers and headphones (same device)
3. headphones

When my headphones are connected the third still shows them as unconnected but sound will play through both the speakers and the headphones.

I am wondering if there's any way that I can fix this so that I can have sound play out of just one or the other.

I have tried the following things:

-system restore
-updating my sound drivers

Thanks for any future help.

Answer:Headphones and speakers play at the same time

With no system specs specified we can't say exactly. But, in newer HD audio sound systems they autodetect when something is plugged in. If you have one of these devices it is either the driver or there is a hardware problem with the sound chip.

Recently I've occurred with a problem. But I don't know how to fix it. My speakers are playing at the same time when i plug in my headphones. So there's audio coming out of both. How do I fix this?

Answer:Speakers and headphones playing at the same time

Hi Shabirah1997 ,
Welcome to the Community Forums.
Step 1: You may try to set default initially to get back the previous settings. Similar steps on this article .
Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Sound > Playback tab > Set Default at the bottom > Apply
Step 2 oing a reset on command prompt :
Click on start and search for CMD , right click to run as administrator . type net stop AudioSrv
then  net start AudioSrv
Step 3 : Jumping back to previous working date with System Restore
Step 4: Rollback / Uninstall and Reinstall audio drivers from D:/Lenovo /Drivers folder or download from support site.
See which one works for you best.

I'm wondering if instead of buying a splitter, I can just have the headphone and speaker playing at the same time.

I have a stereo system that sounds better than the pc speakers, but the bass isn't as good as the pc speaker's subwoofer. All i want to do is be able to plug in the stereo system into the front headphone slot while having the pc speakers plugged into the back speaker slot and be able to play both at the same time.

What would be even better, but probably not possible, is if I could hook the pc speaker's subwoofer up to the stereo system but thats probably a lot of trouble..

Is there a way that I could make the 2 pc speakers and the 2 stereo system speakers be recognized by the computer as a 4 speaker system? again, probably impossible or too much trouble.

Answer:How can i play through headphones and speakers at the same time?

You plug the stereo system into the rear channel and the PC speakers to the front channel (or vice versa) - that's what i have set up and it works just fine.

You need to fiddle with your soundcard settings to get it to run in 4 speaker mode.

Hey everyone

Recently i had my motherboard fixed and my speaker ports are in a diff place. Vertical instead of horizontal down the bottom (no i don't know much about hardware). There are still the same three holes, pink blue and green, not sure if they were different colours don't think it matters. I've got creative inspire 5.1 5200 speakers
and only the speakers which are plugged into the top speaker port (green) work.
The subwoofer seems to work no matter which speakers are plugged in but I
can only have the back two, the front two or the centre speaker working at once.
The bottom port is used for the microphone and that works all the time, the middle port doesn't do anything really.
I've tried downloading a bunch of realtek AC97 drivers to get it to work because I used to have one which had a speaker setup tab, and i could change from microphone to surround sound from there: ac97 (ms6547)/audio4.JPG
I don't have the speaker config tab on mine anymore, but i do have HRTF demo.

............... :bounce:

I had an issue recently where I upgraded from OEM Vista x86 to Windows 7 Professional x86. There was very little sound coming from the internal speakers. I also had major BSODs from then, so obviously I was focusing my attention on the BSODs as a priority.

That issue has been resolved, however, or, at least, I implemented a workaround - reinstalling Vista. I no longer have BSODs.

The audio, however, is still extremely quiet. I've checked the following:

Went into properties and maximised the 'levels' on everything.

Went into volume mixer and maxed everything.

Went into Devmgmt.msc and tried updating drivers - drivers already up-to-date.

SOMETHING I HAVE NOTICED: I have two internal speakers as well as what I guess is a subwoofer (I'm sorry, I'm terrible with hardware - its icon looks like a box server or something. I'm currently at work so I'll upload screenshots when I get home).
ONLY ONE SPEAKER PLAYS AT A TIME. I can change between the speakers by right clicking and saying "set as default speaker" and that plays sound out of one at a time with no problems, unless I choose the subwoofer(?).

Is there a way to make both speakers play at the same time, instead of just using one of them?

All help appreciated!

Answer:Onboard Speakers Only Play One At A Time

Without knowing what kind of speakers and how they are connected, we can't really comment on the problem. More info is needed.

Normally, if the speakers are connected correctly both to the PC and internally in the speaker system, you can go to the Control Panel/Hardware and Sound and finally the Sound Panel, Playback section. Your "Speakers" should be set as the Default playback device and then you can click on Configure to configure the type of speaker system you have and also test the speakers.

Hey all!

I am trying to get my headset (which plugs into the Front-Green-Out) to work along side of my speakers (which plug into my Rear-Green-Out).

Both are being recognised and both work, but not at the same time. That's because in the screen where you manage your Audiodevices you can only have 1 "standarddevice", which it uses to play the audio.

Is there any way to have more than 1 standarddevice? (or another way to make both work at the same time).

By the way, for anyone using the same motherboard as me: Asus is not supporting it anymore =/. I use the P5K-EPU sounddrivers. Also, if you want the front jacks to work you have to set them in the BIOS to AC97, not HD-audio.

Answer:Front headset and speakers at the same time?

I know on mine when I plug into the front panel it disables my rear inputs. I don't think there is a way to do that using the same driver. What I do though is use a sound card for my speakers/monitors and use the onboard for my headset. I have WMP set to my sound card so I can listen to DVD/music through my monitors while gaming through my headset simultaneously. Helps when the Mrs is scrapbooking and wants to listen to music.

not realy unless you're prepared to modify the headset plug.

Till yesterday i was able to hear sound only from my headphones but today when i started my system i was getting sound from both my headphones and speakers. I tried re installing my drivers and all but still the same issue. Kindly let me know any other solution for it.

Answer:Why are the speakers and headphones playing at the same time?

Check for a setting in the audio. Many, have an audio configuration panel and an option to mute the speakers when the headphone is connected or not.

I don't have IDT so I can't say exactly where that is at.

Another option, if it worked yesterday and not today, use the System Restore and restore the PC back to an available restore date when it did work correctly. (System restore will not delete any user data). System Restore can be accessed from Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools.

Hello, from a few days I've a problem with audio devices:  when I connect any headphones to the jack on the left side of the laptop, the sound keeps going out from the  speakers. So, I can hear from headphones and speakers in the same time.  I tried everything: update all drivers, uninstall and reinstall them, uninstal and reinstall DOLBY ADVANCED AUDIO v2 program (which is supposed to control audio on the pc), update IDT High Definition Audio CODEC (I think this is the sound card?). Nothing worked. I have two  devices available in "Audio" window:  "Speakers / headphones" and "Headphiones communications" (I'm translating from italian Windows OS). Selecting the first, speakers and headphones work simultaneously. Selecting the second, no sound comes, neither from speakers or headphones. I think I tried everything. What to do? I don't even know why this problem occurred!   Thanks for the help

This sometimed happens with Realtek HD sound cards when the sound card is integrated into the Mobo.

Download and re-install the driver AND HD audio application.

(even if your sound card is not a REALTEK one I'd still re-install the driver (from the MOBO driver set / sound card CD) AND THE APPLICATION -- most of the sound card driver software usually has an application as well (such as a mixer. graphic equalizer etc).

Since everything was working fine yesterday I'd try using system restore to return my computer to a date/time prior to when the audio problem first started.

System Restore

If system restore doesn't help you might have to go into control panel > sounds to see what your default settings are. There are several previous forum threads that provide possible solutions. For example:

Can someone please walk my through the steps and help me with this! Thank you!

Answer:Hooking up my Speakers and Headset at the same time?

Depends on your PC and what audio I/O jacks you have. The GREEN jack is the Speaker (or can be used for headset or line out). If there is a second Speaker/Line out jack you could use that, however most new systems only have extra output jacks for surrond systems and that won't do you any good.

If you have a headphone jack on the front of the PC, and again depending on what you have, some systems have a sound control panel and allow configuring either both the front headphone and rear speaker are both active or the headphone jack cuts off the rear speaker (usually the default mode).

Post some system specs, or better yet fill in the My System Specs so we know what we are dealing with.

Go to Control Panel - Sound - and explore all possible settings ("configure" and "properties").

I think the switch is a part of the connection, and something in the headphone jack is loose or broken, but it's worth looking for a setting. I didn't find any such setting on my Vista, but I have a different sound card.

Answer:Headphones and speakers playing at the same time

It would appear from your description that you have a mechanical fault with the headphone jack. When you insert the plug into the socket there is a contact that is switched telling the system that something has been inserted into the socket - this signal is used to switch off the speakers.

As this is a laptop it is probably beyond most PC users to make a repair, although this is possible, I would suggest you contact your local PC repair outfit who will normally be able to replace the socket for a reasonable cost

My soundcard is some kind of a Realtek HD -thingy, if that helps.

That is the way it works. You can only have one "default playback device" - either your Speakers (PC sound) or the HDMI.

I've seen other posts about this, but don't recall seeing any way around this.

For several last days, I have a strange behavior of speakers and microphone in my t470p. For most of the time they are unavailable in both Linux or Windows OS. However, where I'm doing little push on screen backward (like adjusting screen little bit), both microphone and speaker start working and become available. After I stop adjusting screen (making push backward) device become unavailable again. I'm sure that it is some kind of hardware problem and it should be easy fixing (like some connector is not attached properly inside LCD panel), but according to maintenance manual, I do not see any wires related to speakers or sound card going inside LCD panel. Can anybody advise how to fix such behavior?

I use a bluetooth speaker (Tendqa) as well as a pair of wired headphones on my computer (XP). Until yesterday, I could get audio output on both simultaneously (I know for sure because many times I forgot that the speakers were on and I'd start playing a game and the sounds were broadcast through the speakers and I didn't realize it right away because I had the headset on).

Anyway, as of this morning, it's an either/or thing with music (played via Pandora or WMP). I can get system sounds through the headset (such as the audio demo through Realtek) but no music while the bluetooth speakers are connected.

The only thing I can think that I did in the interim is install Adobe Acrobat Reader X. But I restored my computer to yesterday's settings (before the Reader install) and it didn't solve the problem. I even checked my windows registry to make sure none of the Reader X registry entries were there. Nada.

Can anyone think of anything else I can try?

I have a rather cheap and poor quality Trust 5.1 surround system and a rather awesome View Quest SonicDock.

While my current, best, computer was away being repaired, I wired up all the speakers in a rather complicated manner which enabled me to have c/sub, the two front side speakers, and the SonicDock output simultaneously, at maximum volume. However, the read side speakers never worked with that cabling and I thought they had both died until I got this computer back and connected the surround properly.

Why do I want the audio to output through two sets of speakers at the same time? The subwoofer from the surround set is awful. The SonicDock produces some literally desk-shaking bass.

So, the computer has the following audio ports:
in (blue), out (green), mic (pink), c/sub (orange), rear (black), side (grey)
(front panel)
mic (pink), headphones (green)
Basically, I don't WANT surround. My room isn't big enough and the speakers can't be strategically positioned, I just want the maximum sound output. I.e. I don't want WMP to just be sending audio to the front speakers, I want sound to come out of all the speakers, even if it's just stereo sound but through all 6/7 speakers.
I've fiddled with all the Realtek HD Audio manager settings and can't get it to work how I want it to. When I tried stacking earphone splitters and connecting the four speaker cables into that stack and plugged into the rear green out port, it didn't work as intended.

I think what I'd like to do... Read more

Answer:I'd like to have sound output through 2 sets of speakers at same time

First off, I use a Trust 5.1 surround system and I bought it knowing that I was getting what I paid for :I

But on to your problem, with Realtek it is easily possible to output to two sets of speakers at once (as long as your dock has a single 3.5mm for input).
Unfortunately I don't have Realtek anymore since I bought my X-Fi so I'm going purely from memory here. In the Realtek control panel (accessible through Windows control panel), there is the ability to toggle front panel audio concurrently with your normal, rear port audio. Luckily Google has a far better memory than I.

by clicking "Device advanced settings" in the Realtek HD Audio Manager and then clicking "Make front and rear output devices playback two different audio streams simultaneously"

I have a HP Pavilion g6, Win10. Today the sound on my laptop started playing from the speakers and headphones at the same time. A quick google tells me this is a known and stubborn problem for some HP users. None of the advice worked for me so I tried the option of unisntalling and reinstalling the sound drivers. Looking at the 'Sound' tab of the cotrol panel in Playback there was a device, IDT High Definition Audio, which said it wasn't working. Looking at the control panel I had two options for which sound driver to uninstall- AMD HD Audio Device, or IDT High Definition Audio. Given the fact that IDT Audtio was apprently not working, I chose to unisntall that one. I unchecked the box saying to remove all drivers.  Apparently this was the wrong thing to do, but the instructions made no mention of this. I then searched for and downloaded the IDT High Def Audio driver, restarted my computer and... No sound, and no way of reinstalling the driver. In device manager if I scan for hardware changes it comes up with nothing. If I try all the options to reinstall the sound driver, and even specify the folder where I downloaded the IDT High Def driver, it tells me my sound driver is already up to date. In the Sound tab of the Control Panal, in Playback, I now only have one thing - "Digital Display Audio" - and that's with it showing disabled devices too. Help! Thanks.

#HPExpertDayThis is  driver and setting conflict issue. Windows would have tried updating the drivers and someother program might be overiting it. You will have to uninstall and reinstall the drivers and software for Audio.

I have a Compaq 8510w Workstation Laptop, and I am trying to get the internal Laptop speakers and some external speakers to work and both make sound at the same time. I have a secondary monitor that has speakers, and it's speakers connect through the headphone jack. So I would like to use the secondary monitor's external speakers, but I would also like the internal speakers in the laptop to work as well, to kinda make some version of surround sound, and just to generally boost the volume of my system. Is there a hardware or software change that I can make to make this work? I have a microphone and headphone jack in the front of the laptop, and in the back I have a green and blue jack. Any help would be greatly appreciated, and if you need more information I"d be more than happy to help in any way, thank you,

Answer:Would like for BOTH Headphones and Internal Speakers to work at same time

Is there a way to tell if this is the cause of the problem? I messed around with all of my audio options, tried upgrading the driver, I've hooked the external speakers into every port available, and i reinstalled the monitor software thinking that maybe they had an application for it. I don't know what else my options are, but I find it weird that there isn't some kind of work around or registry change that can be made. Thank you once again for any help,

I just bought a new pc and received it today, and i plugged my headset in to check if i hear audio from both speakers and headset but its not working. When i plug my headset in i only hear audio from my headset and not the speakers. Ive been googling and found something about it but with the newest realtek hd audio i dont have the Playback Device there, only the Recording Device. In this picture it has both the playback and recording device.

Answer:No Audio coming from speakers and headset at the same time

In the Playback Device section of the panel you have displayed. Check the Make front and rear output devices playback tow different audio streams simultaneously and see if that does it for you.

The usual default mode on PC sound cards is to mute the speakers when a headset is plugged in.

Hello,Sorry if this is in the wrong place, as you can tell, I'm a newbie. Anyways, I'm having a bit of a problem with my headphones and speakers. It all started around a year ago. All of a sudden, my speakers stopped working, however, the headphones continued to work fine. Then, out of nowhere a few months later, my speakers magically began working again. Only problem is, my computer doesn't seem to recognize that I have headphones plugged in, so the speakers and headphones play sound at the same time. This is a major inconvenience because I like to listen to music and watch movies, but can't do so without disturbing others anymore. There might be something lodged in the headphone jack, as the headphones don't seem to go all the way in, but it still goes in enough to play sound through them. I've tried disabling the speakers themselves, but it blocks the sound from the headphones too.So basically what I'm asking is, is there some way I can 'fool' the computer into thinking I've got headphones plugged in so I don't have to run both at the same time? Or any other way to fix it that doesn't involve high-cost repairs? Any help here would be so greatly appreciated!ThanksEDIT: Forgot to mention, I'm using a Gateway NV79 laptop running on Windows 7. It's a little over a year old.

Answer:Headphones/Speakers Problem (Working at the Same Time)

The laptop has only one port used for both the Headphone and External Speakers. Have you tried those cheap earphones for testing?

I bought a new laptop, and when I plugged my headphones in, my laptop wasn't recognizing them. It was seeing them as a mic and sound just kept playing over the speaker.

I messed around and now I can plug headphones in and they are working but my speakers are now playing at the same time that my headphones are.

My headphones still aren't popping up in the devices part of my sound manager.

I've already updated my drivers as much as they can be. I have realtek HD audio manager.

Answer:How to get headphones and speakers to stop playing at same time?

In the Realtek Panel, Click on the "Device Advanced Settings" on the upper right of that panel. The option is in the Advanced Settings.

I had been facing this problem for a long time. At the beginning after the laptop is turned on, the speakers on it work just fine. But after 4-5 minutes, the problem begins. The speakers suddenly stop playing, then again play, again stops and again resume..this thing goes on until the system is rebooted.  Then again after 4-5 minutes the weird phenomenon starts. I have the coexant hd audio driver installed. Tried reinstalling windows several times. None produced any positive result. It happens on any application i use and even in case of the system sounds too. Can anybody help me solve this problem please? I know its something not many people heard of. But i'm facing it.

This is related information... I have a T500 (20823HU), with Conexant 20561 SmartAudio HD, driver  Outputting audio to the internal speakers and external jack simultaneously is called MultiStream Mode on the conexant smartaudio HD. 10:41 AM - last edited on 08-09-2009 10:27 AM  swg101 (All), As you had earlier indicated you were running Vista Ult 32, your Win 7 post above suggests that Conexant's CX20561 does in fact support the Audio Director functions of SmartAudio II under Vista and that it had worked properly for you.  Do Audio Director services actually appear and operate in Vista 32?  From Conexant's SmartAudio II Help file: Classic mode emulates the behavior of Microsoft Windows XP, where sound is heard either on the speakers or on the headphones, but not both at the same time. To select Classic mode, click on the corresponding icon. In Multi-Stream mode, different sounds can be played on speakers and headphones simultaneously. To select Multi-Stream mode, click on the corresponding icon. If so, folks should know that Conexant's driver package does not install these features in Win XP. The Audio Director icon is not presented by the SmartAudio II control center in these systems; only the Volume Mixer, Voice Effects and SmartEQ / 3D Settings are available. Have not explor... In the Windows audio playback tab there's only "speakers" but sound is playing from both speakers and the headphones, with headphones plugged into the right jack. I checked the Realtek Control Panel and there was F**K ALL for options there (see attached). There is an Intel(R) Display Audio in Device Manager alongside Realtek High Definition Audio. So now I can't watch warm-up videos at school without blasting the sounds through my speakers as well.

I tried a System Restore to before the problem started but it didn't do anything. The problem started around the time I ran an Advanced Systemcare 8 scan, which does the following tasks:
Spyware Removal
Registry Fix
Privacy Sweep
Junk Files Clean
Internet Boost
Shortcuts Fix
Registry Defrag
System Optimization
Security Defense
Disk Scan
Vulnerability Fix (Windows Updates)
Disk Optimization
Also when I move my laptop it shuts off for some reason, so it could've interupted the scan or updates or something.
System Specs included inside attached DxDiag.

As per the title, my speakers and headphones have started playing sound at the same time. Under "playback devices", "speakers and headphones" appear as one (I don't know if they're supposed to be separate?) and are set as the "default device". I've had this problem for nearly a month and I absolutely need a solution. I've searched through the forum, but have been unable to find an answer. Any help would be much appreciated!
I've tried three different headphones and they all have the same problem - sound plays from the speakers at the same time.
Disabling and enabling the audio driver didn't do anything.
Uninstalling and reinstalling the audio driver didn't do anything.
I tried system restore, but I went away over the holiday period and it's possible the last restore point I could use was, in fact, after the problem occurred.
Windows refresh didn't do anything.
The Windows tutorial didn't do anything - the sound processor is working, the cable is connected, the volume is up, the troubleshooter didn't find any problems, the driver is up-to-date.
Stopping and starting audio service, Windows audio and Windows audio endpoint builder in services.msc didn't do anything. Their start-up types are all set to automatic.
I understand KB2962407 has caused sound problems for people. My laptop hadn't downloaded the update. I tried downloading it to see if this would fix the problem but it did not and I have deleted it again.
Update: I've also updated BIOS. &quo... Read more

Answer:Speakers and headphones playing at the same time - HP Pavilion G6 Windows 8.1

From the service manual
Produces sound when connected to optional powered
stereo speakers, headphones, earbuds, a headset, or
television audio
WARNING! To reduce the risk of personal injury, adjust
the volume before putting on headphones, earbuds, or a
headset. For additional safety information, refer to the
Regulatory, Safety and Environmental Notices.
NOTE: When a device is connected to the jack, the
computer speakers are disabled.
This means the socket is faulty as it is supposed to cutout the speakers by a mechanism inside the socket itself. (My daughters phone as the opposite problem - no sound at all unless headphone plugged in.)
to replace the socket means wiring stripping the laptop and soldering on a new socket.

Answer:Satellie L500-1CQ - Sound from headphone and speakers at the same time

Have you tested other headphones or external speakers? If not you should do this!!!

Furthermore I miss some important informations about your operating system and sound driver. You should try updating the sound driver. The newest version you can find on the Toshiba website.

Hi there, As the subject line reads I am hoping to enable playback through both the headphone and internal speakers on the E93z All in One unit I have. Is there is currently a way to do this with the Lenovo HD Audio software for the Realtek system? It detects the headphones and does the typical shut off of the internal speakers however no option to enable playback through both seems to exist. Running Windows 7 Pro 32 bit. I cannot enable stereo mix (by right clicking in the playback area of the sound settings in Windows) to try and come up with a work around. I have tried re-installing the drivers and not luck with more options to do this.I have tried un-installing the Lenovo HD audio software and still no luck using the vanilla Windows 7 software. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have a Satallite L500. I am having problems with my sound.
When I insert my jacks for the headphones and play something, sound comes out of both the headphones as well as the laptop speakers.
I want to turn off the laptop speakers but still receive sound from the headphones.
There is a horrible "echo" when both headphones and speakers are on at the same time. I am new to Vista and for the life of I can't figure out what's going on.

When I first got the laptop everything worked fine. I then bought some speakers for those times I wanted to listen to external speakers.
I would unplug the headphone jacks and plug in the speaker jack.
Ever since doing this, whenever I plug in the headphones the laptop speakers are also playing.

Also, when I first got the laptop whenever I would plug in the headphone jacks, a message would pop up on the screen indicating that the microphone and audio jacks were detected. I no longer get this message.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Answer:Satellite L500: headphones and speakers play at the same time

hi tango123,
i think some sort of "confusion" is in the registry.
just deinstall the sounddriver
after that reboot and reinstall (look for the current driver at toshibas driver downloadsite)
make sure you use a stereo jack!

for the echo issue try to mute the mic to test.
