Question: Shortcut key for website homepage

I'm not hopeful this can be done, but is there a shortcut key(s) to get back to the home page of the current website you're viewing?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Shortcut key for website homepage

Not that I know of - but many sites have a link to their homepage, such as the one on this PCA site at the top of the column of links. However, someone may know better.

Do you guys know if theres a shortcut key to set your homepage rather than going in Internet options to reset it. I know theres a shortcut key to bookmark a page but I didn't know if there would be one to set your homepage

Answer:shortcut to set homepage

Since it is just an entry in the registry, you could make a reg file to do this.

Export:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\
And just keep the section regarding the
Start Page

e.g.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main]
"Start Page"="http://www.whateveryouwant.com"

How do I get my homepage shortcuts for websites icons back? When I used to connect to Mozilla Fox internet, my homepage would come up. With my homepage, were a row of icons. Large Icons, down the middle of my screen. There was one for Facebook, Yahoo, Youtube, etc. Well, now they're gone and I don't know how. I can't get them back and it was really convenient. Help!

Answer:My shortcut icons on my Homepage are gone. Not my toolbar.

When you open Firefox, whatever is displayed IS your homepage. Your links are (or should be) listed under bookmarks.http://www6.pcmag.com/media/images/...

My aunt lost her internet service for about a week (lousy provider, but that's another story). She has an XP computer. Her browser is Chrome.

Her service is now restored. A technician told her over the phone that junk files on her computer might have contributed to the problem. So she ran CCleaner.

All of her Chrome desktop shortcuts now go to the Google homepage. When she clicks on her Yahoo shortcut, she gets the Google homepage. When she clicks on her Amazon shortcut, she gets the Google homepage. Etc.

I tried to re-establish her shortcuts for her, using More Tools -> Add to Desktop. But I got the same result. No matter what website shortcut I put on her desktop, clicking it took me to Google.

Any ideas?

Answer:Every Chrome desktop shortcut goes to Google's homepage now

Sounds like your shortcuts are not correct. Please follow the steps in the following link to see if you can make one work ex: yahoo.com Let us know if that works for you or not.

Any ideas?

Hopefully a simple question but I can't find a way to create a shortcut straight to internet sharing so users will be able to quickly turn it off/on without having to go to settings.

Here is the situation:
I got a Win 2k Pro comp in a Win2k Domain. We setup a policy on the server where certain win2k pro comps are totally locked down as far as users changing settings.

In IE, you can't ctrl-D to set homepage
- you can't click on a link to set homepage(like some websites have)
- You can't access Internet Options in IE

This is how we like it....

Now some student went to porn and the porn site(i don't know which one...yet) put stuff in the favorites AND set the home page to http://www.abcsearch.com

I have no Idea how this was done?¿
It must be some javascript code in the html page...

What I want to know is this:

What code can you put in a web page to somehow invisibly and automatically set a new default homepage in IE??????????????????

Because now I can't change it back the way it was with the security policy in place...and i dont want to disable the policy it because it will disable the policy on all our other computers in other campuses.

I am begging for you help and knowledge.
Thanks

I had MSN USA as my homepage. I have already removed malware and my system updated and now my homepage is MSN India. Every time I go through the steps to get my old homepage back it changes to MSN India. How do I get my old homepage to stay permanently.

Answer:Help me Make MSN USA website (not MSN India) My Homepage

Open up your web browser's Options menu, go to the Homepage (or General) tab, and put http://www.msn.com as your homepage. Are you from India, by chance? They may be redirecting you automatically, though I can go to http://in.msn.com/ just fine and I'm not from near there. You mentioned malware but didn't specify everything you did to clean it and all that you know about the threat you had. I would start with downloading and installing Malwarebytes Free, updating all available definitions, and then running a full system scan. Clean up the threats it finds and post the report here afterward. Do the same with SuperAntiSpyware Free, but don't be too concerned with the tracking cookies. SAS is pretty dramatic about them, so just delete them and report back actual threat results.--------------------------------------------------Apologies if I don't respond to your reply immediately. I don't check this site daily, but you're welcome to PM me as a reminder.message edited by Xps86

I have a shortcut to my online bank account but today when I tried to use the shortcut I could only get in so far then it froze,Have tried several times but no joy.I can get in by typing the address into the address bar.I deleted the shortcut and created a new one but the problem still remains,Anyone any ideas

Answer:Shortcut to website not working

If you have your Online Banking website address in your list of Bookmarks then right click and use the Send To Desktop (create shortcut) If that option is not available then right click COPY and PASTE to desktop.
If not already bookmarked then log in to your Bank Account via your webpage and when on the home page bookmark it and then follow procedure to create a desktop shortcut. Once you see it is working then you can delete any previous one that no longer works.

Is there any way I can create a shortcut on the desktop that will take me direct to a web site (assuming that I'm already connected to the internet). Ideally, it should open the default browser IE7 if it is not already opened.Sort of like the forum's "click here" but on the desktop.I know I can go through favourites but it would be nice to be able to do it quicker for a few frequently accessed sites.

Answer:Desktop shortcut to website?

Try this,Open the website using IE, then drag the icon from the address bar onto your desktop

How do I pin a shortcut to a website to the task bar?

Answer:pinning shortcut to website on taskbar

Hello tjs,

Welcome to Seven Forums. ]

Unfortunately, you cannot pin a shortcut to the taskbar. What you can do is pin your web browser whatever it is to the taskbar and then pin the shortcut to the browsers jump list. The other alternative is to create a new toolbar from a folder that contains the shortcut. Info here if needed: Quick Launch - Enable or Disable

Hope this helps.

Answer:Don't Know If Website Shortcut Problem Happens To You Guys

This is a virus, usually from visiting certain Chinese sites
From the Singapore Hardware Zone, this solution may work

1)delete the IE short cut on ur desktop or whereever

2)go to ur IE installation folder eg:C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer
3)look for the file iexploere.exe or explorer.exe.
4)double click it and IE should open.check if the default link is the one u encounter or not. if not proceed to next step. if still that cn website. uninstall ur IE and u can stop reading now.

5)right click and send to desktop to create new short cut.

if u are using chrome and firefox. reinstall them and delete the short cut on the desktop will solve the problem.

what the software did was to replace ur browser shortcut with their their browser shortcut to fool u that the browser u are using is IE /chrome/firefox

Dear all,

I have a problem that seems to keep reccurring with a desktop shortcut to only website. The site is an MLS website. The page loads fine if the address is typed into the address bar in IE6 (http://mls.momls.com) but for some reason when a desktop shortcut is used to open the same website a yellow icon with exclamation mark appears at bottom left of screen and there is no functionality on the page. Moreover the error occured recently after pasting some cookies into the cookie folder.

On clicking the icon the dialogue announces one of two errors: "permission denied" or "my cookie is null or not an object"

Before the actual site is loaded a password dialogue is shown both when accessing via a shortcut or when entering the address in ie6 address bar. The only difference is that there is no error when using ie6 address bar after the password has been accepted. When the shortcut is used however, the error icon appears at bottom left of screen on correct passoword entry.

I have two computers networked via crossover cable. The error only occurs on the host computer. The other computer can launch the site with no problem from the shortcut on the desktop!

I have tried everything from deleting cookies and internet files to removing ie6 (which could not be done..imho possibly due to ICS???)...the computers at our office are also running IE6 and also do not have the shortcut problem..it is only the one computer. I installed Java Runtime E... Read more

Answer:Website Cannot Be Launched From Desktop Shortcut

After downloading critical updates from Windows Update, the error resolved itself (I had re-installed XP and had not at the time of writing the topic, gotten round to updating my system from MicroSoft)

This post should serve to provide the extreme importance of enabling Automatic Updates if nothing else, so if you have 'em turned off, do yourself a favor, go turn 'em back on again and you may find your mysteries solve themselves...if not you can pretty much rely on the wizards on this forum to help you out. :-)

Right-click an empty area of your desktop, choose 'new' then 'shortcut' - put in the full location/address of your website, click 'next' then name it whatever you want then click 'finish'. You can then copy/paste the shortcut wherever you want."I've always been mad, I know I've been mad, like the most of us..."

Hi all,

I would like to have websites' shortcuts on my desktop for ease in surfing to websites which I frequent by using the steps below:

1. Right-clicked on a blank area in the currently visible web page

2. Clicked Create Shortcut on popup menu

3. Click OK to place the shortcut on your desktop

A link to this page was then created on my desktop. Through this shortcut I was supposed to be able to go to that particular web page by double clicking it.

However, it was not to be cos an error message appeared:

"This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Options control panel."

Question: How do I create an file association?

Any help most welcome.
Thanks!

This is the strangest problem I've encountered.

I am accustomed to right-clicking on an icon, dragging it to a different folder, releasing the right mouse button and choosing either Copy, Move or Create a shortcut.

Beginning a few weeks ago, I lost the ability to do this with website shortcuts (i.e., shortcuts that point to a website.) Here's what happens:

I right-click on a website shortcut, drag it to a different folder, and when the shortcut is in the new folder it vanishes.

I only have this problem with website shortcuts. My default browser is Chrome, so the website shortcuts are created by Chrome.

Does this sound familiar to anyone? How can I regain my ability to drag and drop website shortcuts via right-click?

Web files contain the source html code on your computer. Allows you to edit it.

Shortcuts to websites just link you to the website. The shortcut is basically like you entering the web address into an internet browser.

My laptop has been running painfully slow the last week or so since the website I have as my homepage was hacked. I'm not sure what sort of virus/trojan it was though unfortunately. I didn't receive any warning from my Trend Micro but it seems like too much of a coincidence.Since then, my latop has been on a go slow. It starts up first time but it can take me the best part of an hour to be able to do anything of note. All programs seem take forever to load up, everything from opening up My Computer to opening Firefox takes ages. I checked Task Manager for details and I have an svchost.exe on the Processes tab that is often taking up around 100,000K of the memory and something called wuauclt.exe that is often using over 100,000K too. It is noticable that these 2 seem to drop off after about the hour I mentioned earlier and things begin to work as usual again.I have also been receiving a lot of slow scrpit errors when trying to load Firefox, I don't know if this is to with it taking ages or it is something else. Please find below a copy of my DDS log:DDS (Ver_10-03-17.01) - NTFSx86 Run by Tim at 0:28:40.57 on 25/08/2010Internet Explorer: 8.0.6001.18702 BrowserJavaVersion: 1.6.0_20Microsoft Windows XP Professional 5.1.2600.3.1252.1.1033.18.503.36 [GMT 1:00]AV: AVG Anti-Virus Free *On-access scanning enabled* (Updated) {17DDD097-36FF-435F-9E1B-52D74245D6BF}============== Running Processes ===============C:\windows\system32\svchost -k DcomLaunchsvcho... Answer:I need a desktop shortcut to a website that will open in a new window

There are two ways to do it. The first is to go to Internet Options >advanced and take the check out of "Reuse Windows for Launching Shortcuts"
The other is to create a new shortcut to internet explorer which opens the address. Here's an example. This opens This Forum in IE.

Here's an example: (everything is on one line)

Answer:making website desktop shortcut on tablet

Theres three things you can try:

1) Right click on the tab of the site you wish to keep and pin. This way the tab will automatically load each time you use Edge.

2) Favourite the site on to the favourites bar. You can show the bar in Edge's settings

3) Copy the url, then right click on the desktop, select new then choose shortcut. Now paste the url you copied into the box and finish. The icon will change to that of Edge so you will be able to open it in the future.

When using any version of IE Explorer, when viewing a webpage and want to create a desktop shortcut to that webpage I would simply right click just about anywhere on the webpage and select Create Desktop Shortcut from the drop-down Menu and Presto a new icon shortcut would appear on the desktop.

However, when using MS- Edge, when I Right Click on any webpage all I get is a small drop down-down menu with no selection to create a Desktop Shortcut. Please don't tell me that MS has removed this feature in Edge and I am just missing something or there is a flaw in my system. I have tried every which way to create a Desktop Shortcut of something I am viewing when using Edge to no avail.

Answer:Creating Desktop Shortcut To Website When Using MS Edge

I'm with you on this one!
So far the only way I have found is to add the page to a reading list by clicking the Star at top right, selecting Reading List and then Add.
It's not ideal but it's better than nothing.

Another roundabout way is:
While viewing your wepage in Edge,

Click the three dots at top right
Choose Open with Internet Explorer

Now you can create your shortcut as you were used to. The shortcut will open in Edge if that's your default browser.

Hello, I'm using Chrome as my standard browser, but my university is using a very special online program for some testing, that I can't seem to make the plugins work and install properly on chrome.
So what I was wondering is, is there any way I can make a shortcut, that opens a URL in internet explorer. Rather then opens it in the standard browser?

Answer:can I make shortcut to website opening in non-standard browser?

Do you have a 32bit or 64bit OS? Your specs don't say. :-(

right click in the desktop, select New and then Shortcut

paste this in to start the 32bit IE on a 32bit OS:

Code:
"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" http://www.sevenforums.com
or this - to start the 32bit IE on a 64bit OS:

Code:
"C:\Program Files(x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" http://www.sevenforums.com
If for some reason you cannot get that to work...
...you can create a regular shortcut with just the web address
...open IE
...then drag/drop that regular shortcut into the body of IE

I put about ten shortcuts onto my desktop, such as ones for eBay, Google, Amazon, etc.; however, they all have Edge's standard blue icons. This makes the whole group appear as a monolithic bunch of icons that all look the same and not so easy to read. Is there a way to change these desktop icons to the various websites' favicons, making them easier to see/read/use?

I think that you can right-click a shortcut, then choose "Properties," then click on "Change Icon." However, from there, I'm stuck, because it offers me the option of browsing to the icon I want, but I don't know how to get to any favicon that I might want.

It's easy to find those websites' favicons, using Google images, and I can then save them onto my desktop, but I don't know how to get them from there onto their relevant shortcuts. I think there is a cache, called something like "shell32.icon" or whatever, which holds icons, but I'm not sure if that's anything I want to mess with, because I'm fully aware that messing with those kinds of files can lead to disastrous results, such as the computer freezing up, the 'blue screen of death,' etc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just as WP Central described with their site, Internet Explorer 11 and Windows 8.1 can pin certain supported websites that give a live tile feedback and may support wide and large sizes too.Have Windows 8.1? Pin the Windows Phone Central Live Tile to your Start screen! | Windows Phone Central
I found that deviantART also supports the pinning of a live tile. Absent a dedicated Win8 app, this is great news for the interim. Surprisingly, websites like PCMag and PCWorld don't have any official app or pinnable live tile support.
Anyway, if anyone else comes across other sites that support this new function, please share.

If you click and drag from the URL to the desktop, this will create a web link. You can also right-click on a web page link, and select "save link as" as another method to saving the link instead of web content.

Also, a couple of months ago whenever I entered a google search from the google toolbar I would be redirected to a fake or similar looking page. I was able to fix that but, as the title to this post states: IExplorer homepage will not stay as the homepage I set (usually google.com) but goes back to Facebook as homepage.

Currently I have a desktop shortcut to PuttyCyg (a modified version of PuTTY) which I have configured Ctrl+Alt+C as a keyboard shortcut to launch the program. Trouble is, once there is one instance of the program open, when I enter Ctrl+Alt+C again, instead of opening another instance of the program, it brings the window of the currently open instance to the front. This is strange, because when I actually click on the shortcut multiple times, the default behavior is to open multiple instances of the program. How can I change it so that hitting the keyboard shortcut forces new instances to open? Do I have to resort to things like writing a VBScript?

Answer:Launch new instance of program through keyboard shortcut on desktop shortcut

Hi guys n girls,

I have for ever got sick and tired of right click -> open Send to Menu and creating a Desktop Shortcut for a file or app....then needing to go to the Desktop right click the newly made shortcut and then removing the trailing file extension, dash and words shortcut in brackets. If you are like me and you want a solution where you just right click -. Create shortcut and forget and not need to do anymore then look no further.

I have small AutoIT app (compiled script) that does exactly that.

Desktop (create shortcut).au3 SHA1 - 630A9CE23BF669035EEB089C2948BBD8B38BB505
Desktop (create shortcut).exe SHA1 - 829518AD4233E59D686822D960AAC71405D57CCD
Desktop (create shortcut).ico SHA1 - 16239287978841199F8A2FC56AA36EE55F197083

Download Link Desktop (create shortcut).zip

Virustotal readout - God knows why anyone would use any of the virus scanners flagging AutoIT as a virus. This indicates to me that they are merely only searching for header info and not actually decyphering any of the code. That should be alarming to anyone. Anyway here it is, it gets 2 false negatives out of 52.

Hello,
I recently purchased a new Windows 10 laptop, and it has an odd issue which my old Windows 10 machine didn't...

All the icons on the desktop (except the Recycle Bin) are showing shortcut overlays (little blue arrows on the lower-left corner of the icon) - whether the icon is an actual shortcut (just a pointer to a file/folder stored elsewhere) or whether it is a file (stored in the "C:\Users\MY_USER_ACCOUNT\Desktop" folder).

This is really irritating me, since I frequently use the desktop for temporary files (like downloads, etc) and like to clean it up every so often.

I have attempted to "restore" the default shortcut behavior via registry settings (Shortcut Arrow Icon - Change, Remove, or Restore in Windows 10 Windows 10 Customization Tutorials ) but that didn't change the issue I am seeing.

I would like the overlays to display properly - with overlays on actual shortcuts, and no overlays on files/folders located in the "Desktop" folder on disk.

Has anyone else experienced this behavior? Any ideas on how to fix it?

Thanks in advance!
~Heather

Under 'properties' I have tried assigning various shortcut keys like Ctrl+Alt+N and none of them work.
I have also deleted and recreated the desktop shortcut with no luck.
This was working a couple of months ago.

Does the shortcut key actually show up in the shortcut itself or does the shortcut key not get saved? Try setting the shortcut key, and clicking okay/apply and opening the properties again to see if the key is saving.

It should look like this:

Hi,

On Windows XP, it appears I cannot reuse a "Shortcut Key" that was in use by another shortcut if I deleted that other shortcut without first un-mapping the "Shortcut Key".

For instance (and what happened), I bound Ctrl+Alt+Shift+W to Word XP, and today removed Office XP and upgraded to Office 2003. The old Word XP shortcut is gone, but it will not let me bind the same keystroke to Word 2003 (the control keys appear as I type them, but then when I hit "W" they all disappear and it goes back to saying "None").

Has this happened to anyone else? And if so, how did you fix it? (I haven't tried rebooting yet; that might work, but I'd rather not if I can avoid it...)

Thanks,
Ken Beal

I can't find the shortcut tab or the target on a game shortcut. What I'm specifically trying to do is add "-console" to the end of the target, but there's no shortcut tab or target. The only tabs that are there are just general, web document, security, details, and previous versions.
Also that information at the bottom is somewhat incorrect. I don't use Mcafee for anti-virus anymore. Now I use Norton 360.

Hi and welcome to TSG.

I don't want to insult your intelligence here, but is it actually a shortcut? What you describe is what I would expect to see for a normal file, the lack of a shortcut tab would indicate to me that it isn't actually a shortcut. Does it have a little arrow in the bottom left corner of the files icon?

This tip is also a way of learning how to create shortcuts. Not only for logoff shortcut. It will be easier if you know the path of the program you are creating shortcut of.
Creating a shortcut to logoff on your desktop is another fast way to logoff on your windows account.
For example: If you were in a middle of doing something personal or private and someone just stepped in unexpectedly, Or you were in a hurry and needed to logoff fast. The logoff shortcut could be useful to you at this kind of situation, But it might not be the fastest way to logoff though!
Note that you can as well press the windows logo key + D to minimize all open windows or press the windows logo key + L to lock the screen or press CTRL + ALT + DEL and chose what you want to do from the options.
Now lets follow this simple steps to create a logoff shortcut on the desktop. Let's assume that your windows local disk drive is (C). First method: Go to Computer>>>Local Disk (C)>>>windows>>>System32 or just use this link "C:\Windows\System32" and then look for a .exe file named "logoff". Right click on it and select "Create Shortcut"
You will now see the following message
Click yes...You will now see a logoff shortcut on your desktop. Second method: Right click empty place on desktop and select New>>>shortcut click browse to look for the "logoff" file as described above or just paste this link C:\Windows\System32\logo... Read more

Answer:Google set as homepage, but keeps asking to be homepage

I am not finding any malware in your logs. However, from your MBAM log, you need to flush your restore files.

I suggest that you post in the software forum.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:

Renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it in step 4 of the READ & RUN ME.

If running Vista, Win 7 or Win 8, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.

Now go to the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click ( if running Vista, Win7, or Win 8 Right Click and Run As Administrator ) on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.

[*]After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

Because I want to be able to quickly distinguish between actual item and its shortcut, I vote to not remove the shortcut arrow from shortcuts. Because I do not like "- shortcut" in any shortcut, I used Ultimate Windows Tweaker 2's remove "- shortcut" option to do just that. I noticed the tutorial dated 2009, so I did not want to add a comment in there.

Answer:"- shortcut" & shortcut arrow removal in tutorial :)

The tutorial does give the option of using a light arrow or custom version, not just removal.

Hi,

I'm a complete novice at technical stuff, so I need some hand-holding and patience. A reader of my website has recently informed me that my "website contains an "HTTP Malicious Javascript Encoder" from brasilianstoree.info. It was blocked by our systems, but it is very nasty and could harm others."

I also discovered today that when my website loaded, it was redirected to AskLots.com, and I think this may be part of the problem. I also think my ftp server was compromised due to an error with WordPress. I was getting a WordPress admin error that my wp-content/backup-db file might be visible to the public, and so it took me a while, but I found the solution to fix that. Having said all this, I'm still getting the site re-direction to AskLots.com. I've run AVG full scan, SpyBot, MalwareBytes, etc., etc., etc., but nothing is found. I've even searched my ftp files for "aff.php" after reading another forum's discussion about the same thing, but it found nothing. I just now downloaded and run Hijack This, and here is my log:

Answer:Website has been hacked by a HTTP Malicious Javascript Encoder, Website redirection

The HIJACKTHIS output from your machine most likely has nothing to do with this problem. There is no virus, your site has been hacked. The "infection" is on the webserver.

WordPress has exploits discovered every couple months, and if I assume correctly, you have not been updating it when a new version comes out. The hackers have used one of the exploits to upload a .asp script or something similar which then edited your page, causing the redirects. Obviously, I (nor anyone else here) can be 100% sure what the problem is without further information.

Your best bet is to install the newest version of wordpress, use some "wordpress-hardening" guides that are out there to make it less susceptible to hackers, and then convert and migrate your existing database to the newest version if it can be salvaged.

I've even searched my ftp files for "aff.php" after reading another forum's discussion about the same thing, but it found nothing. I just now downloaded and run Hijack This, and here is my log:

To whom it may concern:My comp has been acting strange for several weeks now. Windows date and time are messed up and refuse to stay corrected when i do fix them. The time and date are always correct but the year constantly reverts back to 2005 after i continuously change it to 2008. Because of this many different websites are not compatible with my IE because they have date sensitive certificates and my IE doesn't like them. I get asked about 5 times per site if it is okay to proceed and it is very annoying. Also I cannot do any online banking because the transactions are date sensitive. Is this a virus/trojan/bug/etc? or is this a hardware issue. My problem sounds very much like a post by Pinky Smalls at this link. I followed his/her protocol and still have had no luck clearing the issue. I tried synchronizing with internet time, but it keeps giving me and error that it is unable to connect. I have already tried replacing my motherboard battery with no help. Perhaps its time for a new mobo? or do you think it is a virus? I'd rather not end up like this guy once i put a new mobo in and infect that one too. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much. -dodsong

Hi folks,

I started having this problem sometime in the latter part of 2014. While reading my medical journals and moving on to the next article, the fbi website pops up and supplants my medical journal website. I have to close and log in to my medical website all over again. Sometimes, even that does not work and I cannot get back to my original website anymore on that day. It happens to my PC laptop, my wife's Macbook and even a brand new Macbook Air that I tried out. For some strange reason, it only happens at home on all 3 computers. I don't get this problem reading my Journals in the Hospital where I work. Interestingly, when I go to the park away from my house and activate the mobile hotspot on my handphone and do my journal reading there, it does not happen.( not yet anyway).
I would like to attach a picture of the fbi website for you but I don't see any paperclip icon on the toolbar.

I would really appreciate any help anyone can provide on this matter.

Thank you

I have a website that I made with Front Page 2000.

What I need now is a free website hosting site that supports Front Page extensions.

Also the hosting site must not add add banners to my site/pages. Or at least the banner should be as small as possible at the top of the page.

I have been searching different hosting sites, but most do NOT support Front Page extensions on their servers.:dead:

I need to find a free hosting service that supports FP 2000 extensions.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Links to websites, either from emails or from shortcuts pinned to my PC desktop's task-bar have suddenly been directed to Google Chromes search page. There are four icons pinned to the task-bar that work;Windows Media Player, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Google Earth and Windows Live Mail all of the rest, such as Facebook, Ancerstry.com YouTube and others now default to the Google Chrome search page.

I have run numerous anti-virus scans all of which have not picked up anything sinister.

The OS is Windows 7 Home Premium. I am not a IT tecky but should be able to follow straight forward instruction, if anyone has any ideas on this problem.

Answer:email website links and taskbar pin website defaulting to Chrome

Hello Bill, and welcome to Seven Forums.

If you like, you could use step 4 in the tutorial below to set the browser you want to be the default for all its supported file type associations that should sort this for you.

I often have to create Shortcuts to executable code.

I used Shortcut Extension - Remove or Restore to get
Code:
SED.exe
instead of the Win7 default
Code:
SED.exe - Shortcut
as name of the newly created shortcut.
But I would prefer to have just 'SED'. Any way to do this automatically?
I think it might matter that I do not hide extensions ['Hide extensions for known files' (Option in Explorer -> Tools -> Folder Options... -> View)].

Answer:How to create Shortcut 'SED' instead of 'SED.exe - Shortcut'?

Hello Blacksmith,

This can be done by checking the Hide extensions for known file types box in Folder Options as in the tutorial below.

File Extensions - Hide or Show

Hope this helps,

I've got a wierd problem... I know there is in fact no viruses or spyware/hijacks of anykind because I just did a complete format because of a virus I had and no longer have. Anyways to the point...

When I try to do Windows Update using IE 6 SP1 I will not load the page... I got all the updates including SP1... but now I cannot check for anymore updates or get any other updated software (DirectX 9, WM 9... etc)

Also I try going to www.msn.com... that will not load either... it'll go for like 5mins then I get the "Cannot Display" page.

MSN Messenger I tried using the old v4.7 to login... it just saying logging in... go for 5mins then just goes back to the original screen when I gotta login again. So I installed the v6.2 same result. I do not understand wut is working against my internet that will not allow me to access those pages or msn messenger. I am using DSL 3.0mbps on routerpppoe. I can access this page ofcourse... google.com... yahoo.com... stickdeath.com...etc...etc. Just the microsoft website I cannot. I find this really odd for my msn messenger was working fine a week ago and I was able to get some of the updates for windows xp pro this morning after I formatted. I just all out of ideas for this 1...
Thanks,
John

I have the Windows 8 Consumer build 8250 installed on my Toshiba NETBOOK. Everything is all dandy except certain features on certin websites.
I am unable to actually upload pictures to flickr. Like when I click the "Choose files to upload" nothing happens, no box allowing me to choose the files in explorer appears and nothing happens. I have tired with adblock on and adblock off and it makes no difference. Also when trying to play games within facebook. The games do not load or nothing appears.
Its like as if the adblock is on but there is no adblock on. When right clicking it shows that the flash plugin/extension is running but not the product. This only started when i installed windows 8 consumer. The developer build did not have the issue. I also have tried Chrome, Firefox, and Internet explorer and all errors/issues are reproduced.
Anyone have any ideas?

Here is the MSDN Social issue i posted in they're forums.

Hello all!

My girlfriend decided to try and download something and apparently it wasn't from quite the right place I've run Malwarebytes and ADWCleaner, but I'm still getting a Malicious Website Blocked warning from Malwarebytes for an Outbound threat called choiceforme.website. I've run a number of full scans, but nothing seems to be able to clean it. It's coming from a chrome.exe deep in the users/.../appdata directories.

Thanks for all your help.

It is a real issue in work and I am a service-desk and during dealing with an issue.
I found a very strange issue and it is one big internal website can't loaded normally and it is always redirected into another website. But other users beside the user all can open the big internal website normally.
And the user uses IE11 and all internet websites are OK for opening. Also I found resetting IE can't work for change IE home page even I set related home page for the IE.Let user reboot his PC then check it
but it still can't work.
It seems his IE was kidnappd by some software.
Does anyone knows which tool is good for fix IE such as IE 9 and IE 11?

I have a basic family website (it's now about 25Mb) to share photos and news etc with family. I've been using MS FrontPage for this. I read recently on click here that MS is about to upgrade FrontPage to challenge the heavyweight products like Dreamweaver and aim for the corporate market. Is there a consensus on what sort of web-publishing software that personal/home users should use? I don't mind paying about £100 for a decent software package that's been properly tested etc, but if FrontPage moves toward the corporate market I can't justify paying £300+ for a family webpage software package. Editor/Forum Moderator - Is there a chance that PC Advisor will review/do an article on this in the near future?

Answer:Basic Website Design for a Family Website

The up and coming release of FrontPage as part of Office 11 or as a standalone program is superb. It is by far the very best release I have ever seen and I'm including all of the Office 11 programs in that sweeping statement, not just FrontPage.I think you have already answered your own question to a very large extent though. You specify two things straight away; your level of need (family website for news and pictures etc) and your budget limit. I only wish more people kept a handle on those two prime requisites before making purchase decisions. Nobody can decide for you, but I would say that if the version of FrontPage you are currently using is serving your needs well, why change it at all ?I design websites professionally and I still use FrontPage 2000 quite a lot although I do spend most of my time in the current version (FrontPage 2002, sometimes called FrontPage XP) and a lot of other software. Keep in mind that the program is there to make your life easier and more productive and efficient. The designer can design regardless of the editor he or she uses, but the editing software should be a hige help and speed advantage. I can't think of any other web editor that is more adept at this than FrontPage from version 2000 onward.Unless you have some pretty exotic needs, you could do far worse than save your money and keep using what you currently have, as long as it meets your requirements. As your needs grow, so could your demand for software. The up and coming release of ... Read more

Hello,

I am not sure if this is correct forum to post my issue....but here it is:

Currently my company website (fwww.akeweb.com) is registered with company called abc.com. Within abc.com i access the account info and I see that there a setting for fakeweb.com under Web Services that point fakeweb.com to an ip address (assigned to one of statis dsl lines) the ip forwarding is setup with option as "Use Simple DNS" entry.

My company has the main website as www.fakewebinc.com hosted with a different company. The hosting account contains a setting that will redirect from fakeweb.com to fakewebinc.com.

My issue is that when I am at work logged to company domain, I type www.fakeweb.com and I get error message about web site not found. When I go home using my home pc I type www.fakeweb.com and I get redirected to www.fakewebinc.com.

Is this problem related to network issue such as access blocking, ip address issue, or something else?

Thanks,
b

Answer:Company Network, Website, and Website Redirection

I have a differnt problem, I click fakewebinc.com and I cannot get there, but I go to fakeweb.com and it works.. hmm..
A few things:
- Make sure you have a dedicated IP
-Once you have found that you do, and what is is, go to domain management and edit the A record to that IP, and you should be good.
I think that is your problem. I am not 100% sure, I could be wrong. Wait for someone else to reply.

I'm having trouble setting up my internet on a computer. I tried all the usual things and have narrowed the problem down to something between the computer and the router. I opened up the router (Linksys Wireless-G) page (with all the router settings, I know its got a name...) on the computer and have checked all the settings against another computer on the same router that works fine. I then went into the diagnostics page of the router settings and began trying to ping various websites. It successfully pinged www.google.com, but when I tried to open the same site in Firefox it would not load. I pasted the IP address for Google, 74.125.67.103, into Firefox and it loaded the page. When I try a search, or try to navigate away from the page I'm told that "the page cannot be displayed" just like before. I don't understand the problem, I can send and receive data but I can't open any webpages. I'm assuming there's a setting somewhere that I've overlooked, could someone please point me in the right direction?

Hi there

For a couple of weeks I have not been able to access our business website or the hosting company website from our main office. I can access all other websites.

I can ping the website with no loss through a command prompt. Other people can access the website no problem and I can access it fine from my pc at home.

I have checked the hosts file and the address is not blocked.

I have contacted the ISP and the hosting company and they can find nothing wrong, so I am assuming the problem lies with me.

Does anyone have any ideas why this may be happening?

Many thanks in advance

My external hard drive got infected by this shortcut virus which hides the contents of the hard drive. I scanned my external hard drive using Malwarebytes and it was detected that it was a backdoor.bot in the file $WESNIJ.FAT. I removed that virus and rebooted my PC. I scanned the external hard drive again and no malicious items were found but when I opened my external hard drive, the files don't appear again and the Drive name (Drive capacity) shortcut appears again. I suppose that the my PC was infected that's why the virus keeps coming back to my drive. I scanned my PC using Malwarebytes, Avira, Superantispyware and Hitmanpro but they don't seem to detect the same virus that infects my external hard drive. I'm so desperate :cry to delete that freakin' virus, can someone help me with this? Thank you in advance.

Answer:Shortcut virus (Disk name/Disk capacity shortcut)

Welcome to Major Geeks!

Run the below while your externally drive is connected.

Please read ALL of this message including the notes before doing anything.

Please follow the instructions in the below link:

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide
and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

**** If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going. ****
Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not. MGtools will frequently run even when all other tools will not.
After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
Helpful Notes:
If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:

Starting your computer in Safe mode

If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual update Malwarebytes ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
If you cannot seem to login to an infected user ac... Read more

I don't know why, but somehow, whenever I right click on a shortcut and open its properties dialog, the only tabs i get are "General", "Compatibility", "Security", "Details", and "Previous Versions", but no "Shortcut" tab, like there used to be in Windows XP. Win XP easily let me view the target a shortcut was pointing to, and change it if required, however i'm finding that impossible to do in Vista. After searching online quite a bit, I realised that it was only me who had the Shortcut tab missing, it hadnt been removed in general from Vista. Can someone please explain possible reasons this could have happened, and how to fix it. I can upload hijack this or systeminspector or combofix logs if required.

A few days ago I had issues updating a game and thought it was due to my system being cluttered by years of use so I Did a restored to factory condition. After downloading a ton of updates, it seems to be working faster but I can not get access to world of tanks.com to download the game again. I have found a similar thread regarding facebook but am new to this site and just started a new one.

Answer:Get a 'can not find website' message for one website

Update:
I flushed dns and reset the router. Was able to get to the website to download.
Once partially downloaded, I get a "data obtained from the update service is incorrect. Please see log file" message.
Log file appears to be blank and I am back to the problem of NOT being able to connect with this website again.

Anyone with thoughts on fixing this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I am having a great dilemma since allowing a Microsoft Security Technician impostor work on my Toshiba Satellite laptop computer running Windows 7 system. Following your suggested guidance in an article, plus several other articles to correct the issues of the 11 root programs he changed in the first 5 minutes of contact, I have dilligently worked to fix my computer; yet even after all those steps to fix issues that jerk created, the reloaded browsers (Chromium Secure, Firefox, & Chrome, all show different mistakes while working in Website Builder, and even online versions of the live website show different problems which need correction. According to GoDaddy Techs, there are supposed to be no issues with my website anymore. Here's all the steps I have taken since the fake MSE hack I was stupid enough to get caught in and allowed: 1. Ordered the 3 disk set for reboot to factory install from Toshiba.2. used my iPhone to go to all my usual haunts & emails addresses & changed passwords.3. Change sign-in info for the modem server.4. Downloaded & burned DBAN on cd & ran DBAN program.5. Loaded Toshiba factory install.6. Ran all MS updates.7. Used TOR or Chromium Secure browsers for all program downloads from cnet.8. Due to Anti-Malware program difficulties, I contacted Malwarebytes and worked with their tech until issues were fixed. 9. Downloaded Firefox & noticed differences between website in Live Online feed & Website Builder.... Read more

Hi all, this may sound like a stupid question... but if one wants to save photos from a website all they do is right-click the photo and click save, right? In most cases, unless the photo is copyrighted or protected by it's owner. I'm viewing my own website on Netscape 7.1, I want to save all my own photo's from my site. After a system crash a few months back... I lost all the existing photo's that were on the drive (yes stupid of me not to back-up). Now I'm scrared that in case something was to happen to the website, all photo's would be lost forever. If you wanna check-out my website: (Halloween Based), see if you can save photo's or not? Does anyone know why I cannot save my own sties photo's? To me it sounds odd, I can right-click on them and it says "Save Image As", I supposedly put them into a folder that I put all my photo's.... when I go back there through "Windows Explorer", the folder is there, but none of the photos I just saved...?
