Photo printing with a colour laser

Question: Photo printing with a colour laser

I have just acquired an HP colour laser jet CP1215 and am happy with it so far.Just a slight worry that when printing photos can I use the same photo paper I used with inkjets or will it somehow mess up the laser printer. I am worried that the inkjet photo paper might melt or something on the rollers when the toner is fused on to the paper.

Preferred Solution: Photo printing with a colour laser

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Photo printing with a colour laser

I have an OKI colour laser. I find that if I use glossy paper the toner rubs off. It refuses to stick to the surface and with the slightest handling the image is ruined. It didn't damage the printer in any way - but proved to be a failure.I now use 160 gram injet quality super white paper and get good photo results - but not quite as good as my Epson inkjet.

Hi Allhope someone more knowledgable can advise - I recently purchased a Lexmark x500n multifunction colour laser printer - I had a big black print job to do excel and word - 2000 pages - i was shocked to see that - ok the black starter cartridge of 2500 pages was nearly empty- fair enough - but all three colour cartridges (1500 page size) were nearly all empty too - I hadn't done any colour printing but when i contacted the manuf they advised that the printer uses colour also to print black!! - it's getting returned to them - but do do all colour lasers do this - obviously this quadruples the costs of printing and has put my costing out of the window!! - any advice would be great - it's a network colour printer, with copier and scanner that I need - a fax would be great but not essential.thanks in advanceTrifly

Answer:COLOUR LASER - PRINTING BLACK USING COLOUR!!

That would pee me off no end. How in God's name can it use colour to create black when there's a black cartridge in there? A cheapo mono laser seems to be your ideal tool. I know nothing about colour laser printers, but is there an option anywhere in the settings to print using only the black cartridge? Does the printer still work if you take out the colour cartridge while printing only black text documents?

I have a Samsung CLP-300N colour laser printer.I have been asked to print off a load of doubled sided pages, with average text and a small amount of red.Any idea what would be a charge that wouldn't see me out of pocket?Any advice will be thankfully received.

Answer:Cost of printing for a colour laser

Assuming you pay roughly 30 for each colour cartridge with 1000 page 5% cover and the same for black with 2000 page cover - if it were me I would charge 6p per page - hence double sided would be 12p per sheet of paper. This would cover the cost of just the toner and 80 gm paper - wear and tear, electricity and your time are other factors to take into account. Why not ask your local Staples print shop what they would charge as a guide.

I am using a Lexmark Z42 printer. I put in a new photo cartridge yesterday for the first time and printed of 3 or 4 pages of photographs. The colours were very good (just as they appeared on screen) and I was very happy with them. However I removed the photo cartridge to do some other printing and today when i put it back in to print some more photos, the colour is all wrong.Skin tones are very green looking and backgrounds which should be orange are also a washed out green.I have done all the alignments and cleaned the print nozzles.A test page shows that all the colours are printing.Any suggestions?

Answer:Poor colour on photo printing

This sounds like the magenta cartridge jet is blocked. I don't know the Lexmark, but if it has integrated heads like the HP, stand the cartridge on a sheet of absorbent paper such a kitchen roll, and see if you can get the ink to start flowing.

I am printing out a lot of wedding pictures and am finding that on some of them the colours actually printed are quite different to those shown on screen. Is there any way of doing a check before I waste sheets of photo paper. Hi
When I right click an image choose print the "How do you want to print your pictures" wizard starts. My problem is that this wizard ignores colour settings of the printer. Printing from word, pdf, paint works fine and the printed document/image
is in black and white as it should when I choose the "BW" printer.

So how can i get the print picture guide to obey the printers settings?

What's cheaper: colour laser with genuine ink or colour inkjet with compatible inks?

I'm happy to invest in buying a colour laser: but I can't find any refills for lasers
At least they don't seem to be widely available

So, my choice is: colour laser + genuine inks or colour inkjet + compatible inks

From what I know, side by side: laser's are cheaper
But, how about when compared to genuine laser ink to compatible colour inkjet inks?

I should stress that for me needs, I am not overly concerned if using compatibles doesn't give me perfect results - just close as possible is fine for me

What's more important probably is speed of print at highest quality

ANY feedback would be great

Thanks

Answer:What's cheaper: colour laser with genuine ink or colour inkjet with ink compatibles?

Finding Compatible Remanufactured Color Toner cartridges can be dicey. While they may be available, the problem may end up being the company tht does the remanufaturing. It is also dependant upon the model printer you get. I have noticed that the savings on my Black Canon X-25 toner cartridge is only about $12 lower than the cost of a Factory original cartridge. There are sites that I would save up to $30 per cartridge, but part of this is eaten up by the shipping charges. For my toner cartridge, I am about 1/2 mile from the store that does nothing but ink and toner refill services, and their garauntee thier cartridges 100%. In 3 years I have only had to return one cartridge and it was an HP #17 Color cartridge.

Now per page printing cost on a laser is much cheaper than on an inkjet. Though the printer cost itself is usually much higher for a Laser. Personally I use the laser much more than than my Inkjet, but I do use the inkjet for all color printing. But then 95% of my printing is monochrome text.

I've read a couple of posts already on the subject, but is anybody using a colour laser at the moment, printing around 50 sheets per week. I'm a bit concerned as most of the work I do is around 20% coverage, so would toner cartridges be consumed at an alarming rate? I'm attracted by it because I could really use the speed of them. Thanks

Answer:Colour Laser v Inkjet

A rate of 50 sheets a week doesn't fit very well with your requirement of the last sentence: "I could really use the speed of them."Good colour laser printers are expensive and if I had a requirement as small as yours claims to be, I certainly wouldn't use one. Cheap colour lasers aren't usually worth the desk space the occupy.Nearly all our colour printing is done by a number of inkjet printers. B/W printing (general office stuff) is by cheap mono lasers (which are good value).?d

I have an Epson Photo 870 Inkjet and it's driving me up the wall.
Admittedly I've had it years and it's done a lot of printing, but now it's getting a bit long in the tooth. Every time I print I have to clean the heads. The kids complain all the time because the quality it not consistent. I have used genuine cost a fortune Epson cartidges and also compatibles, but I think it's past its best.

My Mums old B&W Brother goes on and on, never needs cleaning, looking at and never paper jams.

So, I was thinking of investing in a colour laser printer and thought you lot out there might be able to recommend a good bit of kit.

I'm not too worried about speed.
Something with separate colour cartridges would save cash, not just 1 black 1 colour.
A good quality print, maybe even up to photo standard.
Not too pricey on cartridges and maybe something I can get compatible cartridges for.

I'm sure there are some of you out there with some advice.

I want to buy a colour laser printer for home use. It will be used mainly for word documents with the occasional photograph thrown in.

Don't tell me to buy an inkjet because that is not what I want. What I want is a recommendation for a laser printer capable of 1200dpi in A4 format. Preferably something that you have had personal experience with.

This printer will not get a lot of use, but I do not want to wish that I had bought something better as soon as I get it home.

You help in making the right choice is appreciated.
Regards from Graeme Marion.

Answer:Which colour laser printer to buy?

A few questions.
What is your budget range? Are we talking something sub $1000? When you say 1200 DPI, do you mean 1200x1200 or 1200x600? 1200x1200 is usually on higher end printers in the $1500-$2000 range.
Do you prefer the output of a specific engine technology? Or does the print engine (LED,Toner,Wax) not matter to you?
Also, what kind of performance do you want in the printer, must it be single pass color machine? Or do you want the high-speed color capabilites of the single pass printers?

Those questions being asked I dug up a few different printers in varying price ranges.

I'm trying to fix a printing problem with an OKI colour laser printer that has now spread to two printers.

On the first printer, the blue is misaligned with the rest of the colours. Replacing the cartridges, re-seating the cartidges and re-installing drivers has not helped.

Moving cartridges between the two identical printers to narrow down the offending component has led to the yellow now being out of alignment on the other printer.

Re-installing drivers has modified the alignment a little, but not fixed it.

Anybody have any experience with fixing this sort of problem?

I had a laser jet printer for many years and got sick of it as it was costing a fortune in ink even though I was hardly using it. The problem I was having was cartridges getting blocked and by time they had been cleaned the ink was running out. Even though I wasn't using it for colour printing it was still costing me on colour cartridges as they needed to be replaced in order for the printer to work.

In the end I was advised that a mono laser printer would be the best option as they use toner instead of ink and as a result they don't suffer from the same problems that inkjet printers do, and as a result the are much cheaper. I have been very happy with my Samsung mono laser printer which I bought for ?30 of amazon, and never at any point suffered from the problem of the print heads needing to be cleaned before I could print.

I am now looking at buying a colour laser printer and would just like a heads up on whether the same is true for colour laser printers that because they use toner the print heads don't need cleaning and you can then not print in either black and white or colour for many months and still not have the problems and costs that you get with inkjet printers.

I was aware of the need to order new toner which I intended to do in a couple of weeks. Not having a spare cartridge - I removed the magenta toner cartridge, gave it a shake and put it back - not really expecting it to rectify the problem. To my surprise the printer sprang to life again and is still working OK a couple of hundred copies later.I have a new cartridge on order - but it will be interesting to see how long the existing one runs OK.Hence the next time a cartridge becomes "empty" I will try the same trick.

Answer:Hp1500 Colour laser and Windows 7

The last known drivers for your 1500 were for XP. There were many who went to Vista only to find out there were no Vista drivers for the printer.

Here is a solution that worked in Vista which I;m pretty sure will work for you as well. Place the CD that came with the printer in the drive. Unplug the printer from the PC, run the CD software and when it gets to the part to plug in the printer cancel it and pull the CD from the drive. Plug the printer back in and tun it on, W7 will search for the driver on the web and won't find it and then give you some options. One of these options is to load the driver from your PC, point it to where you placed the software and XP drivers and it should pick up the driver and load. Good Luck....

Hi,

Can someone please recommend me a colour laser printer for home use? Resolution should be at least 1200 x 1200 dpi. The option to print both sides of the paper would be nice. Multiple paper trays not necessary, nor anything else that will add unnecessary bulk to its size. There should also be connection for Ethernet and USB. Preferable that it uses separate toner cartridges for the different colours, so if one colour runs out then only that colour needs changing rather than the whole lot.

Thanks.

My understanding of Postscript is that it is necessary if you intend to send documents or artwork to a commercial printer for a print run.

A Lexmark C500 colour laser printer is hooked up to my old Dell Inspiron 6400 running XP 2005 media edition SP3.

I tried installing the printer on my new laptop through the "Add Printer" option but the printer driver for the C500 was not listed. I tried installing a driver from the CD I got with the printer but it returned a message advising was wrong OS. I then called Lexmark and was advised the C500 is not supported any longer.

Is there a driver for my printer I can install (read there is a driver for Vista 64bit) so that I don't have to go and purchase a new printer.

Im sorry to tell you pcastric, but lexmark's website shows only a 32bit Vista driver. You may want to try it just in case... as many vista drivers work under Win7. The issue here may be the 64 vs 32 bit.

Hi,Im looking to buy a cheap colour laserjet (100-130). So far, i am considering the xerox 6110 click hereit says the colour toners yield 1000 pages at 5% - but is this the case with the toners it comes with? (bearing in mind a full set of replacement toners is nearly double toe price of the printer!!)thanks, james

Answer:colour laser printer - buying advise

I have a Samsung CLP300 costing just under 100 click hereYou can buy a toner set for about the same price as the printer (or cheaper if you buy compatible off ebay). I've just replaced the black toner cartridge for 12 click here|39:1|66:2|65:12|240:1318&_trksid=p3911.c0.m14Print quality is OK if not brilliant but it's a great little printer for its price. You can also buy a Network version. The toner supplied with the printer has lasted me almost 12 months of very light use.

I'm looking for a colour laser printer at modest cost, 250-350 say, that will repro "water colour" style of prints rather than glossy photos. Can anyone, hand-on-heart, say their's can, as no one covers this sort of info. Most of the published user/reviewers contradict each other in what they do say, with ratings for the same product going from one to five stars !All seems to be rather a waste of space.

Answer:Review the reviewers for a colour laser printer

Had a read about Colour Laser, they print just as good on copy paper as Photo gloss. But they still do not match Inkjet for photos. You have to pay over two grand to get the above

Hi,We're a small office services team with 6-8 people typically in the office.I've calculated that we're printing in the region of about 3000 A4 prints per month, and a rough estimate that we are spending about 3200-3500 per year on consumables for the printer (including toner, drums, fuser, transfer belts and paper). We're currently using an OKI MFP 3520 multi-function printer which seems to go through drums, fuser, transfer belts and toner like there's no tomorrow. At what kind of volumes does it become financially viable to have an all-in-one cost-per-print type contract? We want a nice, fast printer with low consumables costs (doesn't everyone?)All advice appreciated.

I am still on the original cartridges. I changed to a new black cartridge made no difference. I have wiped down the drum in Alcohol still the same.
Any suggestions on how to fix the problem would be appreciated.

This is not colour specific as I've done test prints of solid CMYK and moved the colours round on the page and the line is still showing in the same place.Any laser printer experts out there?Could there be something stuck on the imaging unit, transfer belt etc. Thanks

Hi all,

Long time reader, first time writer.

I recently purchased a Fuji-Xerox C525a Colour Laser Printer and have had problems making adjustments on the printer preferences screen. It's not that I can't make adjustments, rather that I can't read what the screen says. All of the text is in blocks and vertical lines. I have the latest drivers and software installed but to no avail.

Clicking the help button on the bottom right brings up a message saying:

C:\windows\system32\spool\drivers\W32X86\3\fxhl2z. hlp file was created for a language not supported by you version of windows.

I am running a Pentium 4, 3.2ghz, 1 gig ram, windows XP.
The printer prints just great, but I would like to be able to make adjustments for print quality etc.
I have attached a screenshot of what i mean.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
J.

I doubt if anyone can answer this unless they have had direct, first hand experience. I am inclined to say yes but I would encourage you to search the net for an answer and try to see what the manufacturer has to say. If having the printer available is extremely important I would wait for an answer and confirmation before you proceed.

What other options are out there? Is there a printer out there that still comes with W98 drivers?

I have always used good quality Canon Inkjet Printers. My present one is a Pixma iP4500 which is grinding to a halt after 4 years.
I have been looking at Laser printers for example the CLP-365W Samsung which is about £130.00 at Currys. The problem is it doesn't come with any toners and the price for these is about £40.00 each. That means £160.00 for a full refill each time! Are there compatible toners around or do I have to accept that laser is substantially more expensive - and stay with an inkjet.
Back to the laser can the toners be replaced individually by colour as one colour runs out? Sadly I learned there are no toners provided with the purchase.

Answer:Laser Printing compared with Inkjet

I don't know where you got the idea that it doesn't come with toners from. It ships with starter cartridges good for around 500-700 pages. You replace each cartridge separately as required

Hey guys,

I currently have a Kyocera FS-800 Laser Printer, when I am doing any sort of printing from it, the print seems to come out but then if you look at the print it has like a double of what the print is but slightly faded on the background of the paper but as if it got put it half way down... I have done many things like clean it and check it over and check the paper load and even change the toner but still the same.

I am hoping someone would be able to help me as I am not really into printers so I look forward to seeing some replies!

Thanks guys!

Answer:Laser Printer Ghost Printing Problem....

Well, California Cows Wont Dance The Fandango
Clean-Charge-Write-Develop-Transfer-Fuse.
So you've swapped the toner cart? You have an issue with the cleaning phase, the image is staying on the drum. Usually replacing the toner cart fixes that, if the drum is built into the cartridge. Also by measuring the drum's circumference and matching it to the distance that the ghosting starts (most are 3") You'll know it is the drum.

Does anyone knows how to use those shiny A4 foil sheets for printing onto paper using a Laser Printer? Please help

Answer:Solved: Foil Printing with Laser Printer

Hi Shirley, and welcome to TSG.

Do you have any kind of manufacture's or product name for the sheets?

Many years ago I used a product where you first used a laser printer to print in black the areas you wanted to have the shiny metallic finish. You used supplied high temperature tape dots to hold a piece of the film over the printed area. Running the printed sheet through the laser printer a second time without printing anything fused the film to the existing toner areas on the sheet. Not sure if you are talking about the same thing or not.

I have installed the HP Laser Jet Professional P1102w on my Dell computer running Windows XP - 2002 and it has the Service Pak 3 installed....the XP is NOT the 64. I have a Levelone router. I am able to print wirelessly from my computer......but it is intermittently possible. It seems that when I can print, I cannot connect to the internet. When I correct that problem, I cannot print.

What I am seeing is: the blue light (that indicated connection) will stay lit and I can print. When I cannot print the blue light flashes intermittently......When I start the printer, the blue light flashes and then stops.

When I have been able to maintain a blue light on all the time, I have done something in the router setup. I am not sure what I have done to cause the printer to function wirelessly, but then I cannot connect to the internet.

Both the icon for the printer and the wireless connection for my laptop show up on the page listing my wireless networks on the router information. I suspect that I need to do something different on the router setup. The printer signal is stronger than the internet connection signal.

The Wireless network is under the control of the Dell Wireless WLAN Card Utility.

I have tried (I think unsuccessfully) to set up a network situation for my laptop and printer and router. My thoughts were that would solve the problem of having only either the computer connection to the internet or the printer working.

When I view photos downloaded from my Minolta Dimage Xt I find I usually have to apply a whole load of "gamma correction" and "contrast" to make them look right on the screen and, more importantly, to make them print right on my Epson printer. I use free Irfanview for viewing and printing, and my photos are in high-quality format and are downloaded as jpegs. What I was wondering is, is there any way to automatically apply a predertermined correction when downloading photos (I use the Windows XP automatic download thingy that pops up when I connect the camera) and/or when viewing them in Irfanview? The corrections I apply always seem to be about the same values -- 1.7 or so for gamma, and 30 or so for contrast.Or, if Irfanview can't do it, will I get this facility if I buy (arghh!) one of the mainstream softwares like Photoshop?Or, am I missing the point, and I should be making the corrections elsewhere? Because if I use Sonic MyDVD to make the same (uncorrected) photos into a slideshow they look okay on the telly.

Answer:Photo colour balance

Hi stlucia. This is an old problem in photography of any kind. Your eye has a non-linear (gamma) response to light, your camera no doubt has it's own gamma, so does your computer monitor, printer (different with different inks and papers), and so does your scanner if you ever use that as an input device. Getting all these devices to work together is a challenge even to professionals. The gamma problem is exacerbated by the limited contrast ratio of the various devices, whereby if you did achieve a linear response from the original image, the output print would probably be missing detail in either the black end of the range or the white. I don't know of any program that will let you apply presets, I use either PaintShop Pro or Corel Photopaint and apply corrections manually - sometimes even with successful results. Irfanview, while it's a superb little program, is basic in it's controls, so Photoshop will almost certainly have the tools to help you get better results. I found this website interesting click here

Answer:Changing colour of a photo

Guzeppi It is apparent that you are trying to learn how to use a photo manipulation software program as you are repeatedly coming to the CH forum with questions related to a very specific task you are trying to achieve. If i am not mistaken the software that you are trying to use is a version of Adobe Photo-shop. If that is so and because of your earlier stated problem with reading instructions in the English language i have a suggestion for you. I am providing a link to the Adobe Photo-shop software forum which i suggest you join and seek the assistance of the forum participants there. It is not that we here on the CH forums are unwilling to try and help you but it is a fact that numerically the number of CH forum members truly knowledgeable about that program will be small compared to the Photo-shop forum where the majority of the participants will be in a far better position to assist you than we are here. http://forums.adobe.com/community/photoshoptruenorth

Hello all, and thanks very much in advance.

I have some photographs and I want to print them ( 4 to a page) as part of a manuscript with a hundred pages of text. The printing would be done on a color laser printer (not a photo printer, just a good laser) at a copy shop. The images will be on a separate page from the text, but each page of images would have a few sentences of text as captions.

How can I get the best quality images? ...
I never did this before, but here is what I've been doing:

1. Scan each photo at 300 dpi as a TIF file.
2. Using Photoshop, I made a blank 8.5 x 11" page at 300 dpi. Then I opened up some of the scanned photos, and added them as layers to the 8.5 x 11 inch page.
3. Using the text tool, I added some text.

Questions:
--Do I need to worry about which mode to use: RGB or CMYK?
--Should I save the final file for printing as tiff file, or a jpeg, or a pdf ?
--Anything else I should know or do before taking these files to the copy shop?

THANKS again!
... RB

Answer:Simple Questions: Preparing Photographs for Laser Printing

First thing I'd do is talk to the print shop and ask them what format they'd prefer you to give them.

What program are you using to produce the hundreds of text pages? It might be better to place the photographs on the relevant pages, resize them as needed and add the text, so they'd be in sequence within the total manuscript - rather than creating separate pages in PS.

Having said that, general comments are:

Resolution: scanning the photos at 300dpi is fine (as long as you scan them larger or same size as your final desired printed size).

Image file type: tif is fine - a jpg would also be OK and would be a smaller file. As long as you don't keep re-saving the jpg you won't notice any loss of quality in the image.

Mode: talk to the print shop. Standard colour lasers print CMYK so the image will have to be converted to CMYK to achieve the most accurate result. But professional printers are used to converting RGB images into CMYK as part of the process, so ask the print shop whether you should do it. Bear in mind that the printed image will look different from the RGB image you see on the monitor, although PS allows you to preview CMYK which may help a little, depending on how well your monitor is calibrated.

File type: if the program you're using to create the manuscript can handle CMYK I'd add the images directly onto the relevant pages and supply the whole thing in that program's format (assuming the print shop can handle it) - o... Read more

I may be spinning my wheels here but here goes. I just bought a Lexmark C500n laser printer. I am trying to duplex print on 67 lb card stock. It goes through the printer fine on the first pass but when I put the card stock back in the tray the printer gives me an error message "jam rear" every time. I pull out the tray and make sure there are no errant sheets of paper in there, put the tray back in and get the same message. If I load plain paper in there or new card stock the print process works. I tried setting the media type to thick 1 and thick 2 but that did not help. Is there a solution to this problem or am I out of luck?

PS I did try contacting Lexmark but that was 3 days ago and I have not heard from them.

Answer:Duplex printing with a Lexmark C500n laser printer.

Try using regular paper. If regular paper don't work, the stock gets too moist or is unable to print duplex. If it does work, maybe the 67 # is too heavy a stock to print (a second time).
Does Lexmark website have any troubleshooting links?

Try cleaning the cartridge I think you can do this within the tool box.Failing that if you have been using the other colours a lot you will find it is empty and just needs replacing. It may be showing 50% as you still have blue in the tank.

From what you describe it could be the paper'setting on the printer or some close to it.If you visualize it for one moent youet set up the printer to print either on plain paper or photo paper- you do dont you?If you dont investigate the printer set up protocols.Assuming you do- then as far as the printer is concerned, and assuming all colours are workingas you infer they are[good picture on plain paper]then it would not matter too much if you fed the print a shredded wheat packet- it would not affect ink delivery.By the by the best mode for colour photos, not with standing the paper type or brand - Ink Jet Transparancy - it is also very economical with the ink.

my ' KODAK ESP310 AiO' printer only printing blue/yellow.not picking up red. I have replaced cartridge Kodak 30CL. still no red!

Answer:colour red not printing

The print head nozzle for Red is probably plugged up. Are you using genuine Kodak ink? Do you use the printer regularly? That means every few days.Try running the cleaning process a couple of times. Looks like the printhead is removable. If the above doesn't work then remove the printhead and run it under hot water in the kitchen sink. You will see the different color ink come out by moving the water stream. Rubbing alcohol can also be useful to clean the bottom of the printhead. Use Q-tips. Question: Colour printing

Hi, how do I get the colours I see on my monitor to print as seen. I always get a difference between what I see and what is printed. Any help would be greatly received.

Answer:Colour printing

Adjust your monitor first using a program like click here then try again. You may have to alter the printer settings for colour as well. The type of paper you print on and the ink will also make a difference. You will never get a perfect match as one is reflected and the other transmitted colour.

I have recently dropped my HP Desk jet 895cxi printer.
Now it will only print in Black (Not Color) although there is ink
in the cartridge.
Can I repair this myself?.......and HOW?......

Answer:No Colour Printing?

Have you taken the colour cartridge out and then put it back in again?
Was/is the cartridge recognised?
