Wireless network fine tuning help

Question: Wireless network fine tuning help

Thanks to the advice from a post back in April by mgmcc, I've successfully set up my network..I think! Each wirelessly connected machine can see the other, and I can print from my XP laptop using my Canon printer attached to my Vista PC.I can see "My Documents" on the lappy from the PC as I've "shared" them.Attempting to do this the other way (see my Vista PC files from the XP lappy) seems to be a bit more complicated. When right clicking selected folders, and selecting "share" I've chosen "Admin", but trying to access the folder from the lappy, I get my hand smacked! "Access Denied", "Contact Server Admin to see if you have access permissions" I keep telling myself I have permission, how do I convince the network?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Question: I need fine tuning

Good day all.

I recently installed win 7 ultimate x32. I am not happy, maybe I missed some important settings or I need fine tuning.

I am getting sometimes blue screen where I needed to do recovery startup, sometime system frozen with hibernate maybe so I am forced to switch system off then start over.

Please help to find where and what is wrong I did.
How can I diagnostic and find problems and how to fix it.

I know my questions are not specific and general that is tough to be answered but this is my case.

Please help.

Answer:I need fine tuning

Had the same problem and it was due to the wireless mouse ( Logitech ). Changed to wired " Tust " mouse and everything has worked perfectly since.

So the techie says to the PC Doctor, "My cpu makes a lot of noise and won't autoboot upright. When I have it lying down on its side it runs perfectly." Dr says, "Well son, just keep the cpu on its side." Sadly space constraints won't allow me to keep the unit on it side. So I'm here to seek a second opinion.

The unit is a 3 year old Dell Optiplex from a local Uni's surplus so I don't have any of the orig disks. When it is upright the unit starts up with a loud whirling sound. It brings up the Dell logo on a black background but then quickly prompts for F1 or F2 keys to be pressed. When the unit is laying on its side all is quiet and the unit auto starts Windows. I apologize if this is not the right section to post but it seems to be related to the hard drive and its connectivity or lack thereof.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions on how to fix.

Perhaps the heatsink is loose, and not contacting with the processor when its standing up. Take the side of the case off and see if you can wiggle the heatsink, also find out where the noise is comming from. Check that all your data and power cables are seated properly.

Question: Fine tuning volume

I just upgraded from XP to Vista, and the only thing that's annoying me is the lack of a "wave" slider like XP had in its volume mixer. I had gotten used to using my keyboard's volume up/down buttons to control headphone volume, since neither my headphones or my speakers have a knob/slider to adjust headphone volume. With XP, I dropped the "wave" slider down to 20-30% so that i could make relatively fine adjustments with the keyboard button. With Vista, each notch makes the volume jump up a lot, making it so I can only increase the volume once before it gets deafening.

Is there some way to reduce the maximum system volume, like there was with XP?

Question: Fine Tuning WinXP

I recently posted a collection of tips to tune Vista, which I had gathered from so many different sources on the web. As a result, there were a couple of enquiries about the possibilities of something similar for XP. Well, here you go. XP has been around a long time and the tips would fill a book. This is a selection of the ones which I thought were best and which worked for me.

I just finished a reformat and loading of softwares. My question is:

When I click on Start, All Programs, at the very top is a list of programs... not program groups, but icons for actual programs. How can I take some stuff off that list? I am not interested in keeping them all, and would like to free up some space on my programs list (which is running off the bottom of the screen ).

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide

Answer:Fine-tuning my desktop

The easiest way to do it would probably be to just click and drag those programs into another "folder" such as you accessories group. That way they're out of your way but still available easily should you want them. They're esentially just shortcuts so if you want them completely gone you can simply right click them and delete them.

Added a 250GB HDD to my computer and decided to install Vista Ultimate 64 bit on it. Was told by IBM tech to disconnect the C: before doing it as leaving it connected the IBM recovery partition would be corrupted. Did this, now each OS calls itself C: and the other drive D:. I would like to alter this so that the XP is C: and the Vista is D:. I have connected an external floppy, this is called B: there is no internal A: but it is recognized by both OS. Why? And how do I change B: to A:? When installing Vista I had to restart it. This left a "Set up" option on Windows Boot Manager. So I now have "Older Windows Version", "Set up" and "Vista" How do I remove the setup option?

Answer:Fine Tuning Dual OS

The A drive letter is ussual reserved for the onboard floppy controller. AKA internal floppy. That's all I can tell you about that.
Good luck with the rest of it, I have no idea. x.x

1). The processor is only showing up as a 750, I would really like to use the rest of the chips power. Unless you think the difference would not be that great, and running at the lower speed would be healthier for the machine.

2). The CDRW is only showing up as a CD-ROM according to my burning programs adaptec 4 or Sony CD extreme there is no recording device????
These are my top two concerns for this machine right now.

As far as the CPU,
make sure that the BIOS is reflecting the correct FSB Speed.

for DDR Ram @ 266, you need to make sure you're set to 133 bus speed.

Hey all i recently downloaded nTune, as i heard about a feature that would allow me to "Fine Tune," (Under Advance Settings in the Nvida CP > Performance > Tune System ) my computer to give it better performance, which is a good thing as i don't know how to OC or "Tune" my computer myself. Also being a dell i thought that Ntune could possibly go around some of the lock features e.g OC the CPU.

However, waiting three hours for it to "Tune," i had no luck nothing had been changed or tuned?

Could it be that it is a Dell therefore many of the features normally open are locked or that i need a Nvidia motherboard?

here are my PC Specs if that helps, thank you

Also here is an additional screenie

System Manufacturer: Dell Inc.
System Model: Vostro 410
BIOS: Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q9450 @ 2.66GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.7GHz
Memory: 3070MB RAM (Actually 4 GB dumb 32 bit )
Manufacturer: NVIDIA
Chip type: GeForce 8800 GT

Answer:nTtune (Fine Tuning) problem

you need a mobo with an NVidia chipset , all NTune is doing there is trying to oc your GPU , your better off doing it yourself but its not worth overclocking an 8800GT without volt modding it too cos all you'll end up with is a hotter gpu and 2 frames per second increase , the GT chip is pretty much strectched to its limit by the board manufacturers anyway

If your going to verclock your cpu/ram NEVER let any third party software do it for you no matter who its from , you have to learn how to do it and do it yorself mate then you know your safe

Dont leave your expensive hardware in the hands of somebody else

A little while ago I published a collection of tips to help you enjoy the Vista testing experience. Since then, release 5456 has popped out. It has incorporated some of the tune up items I listed. There has also been a little modification of the way in which the tips/hints should be incorporated. I have amended these, and left in the originals. You may find, with some of the releases, that many, or none, of these tips are now built in. Vista is beginning to look like a real OS and I am now running it as my main Desktop/OS. Have fun or laugh and tear up.

I an in the middle an update from XP to Win-7. Everything is going fine so far, but I don't like the way the desktop icons are shown. Under XP you could go to an "advanced" set of options and adjust the appearance of just about anything.

When I did a similar upgrade on a laptop a couple of years ago, I discovered that the same set of adjustments are available in Win-7, but as far as I can tell, you have to fall back to a "basic" non-aero theme to get to them.

My particular concern is that I'd like to rescale the desktop icons to about half of their default size, and reduce the spacing between them. Mostly so I can fit everything I want on the desktop into two columns.

Is there some hidden way to accomplish this? I've found that the theme file is in plain ascii text, and I'm wondering if I can find the appropriate variables and set them by brute force? Or is there some way to get to the appearance adjustment settings without giving up the aero features?

Are there and sites on the internet or perhaps software that you can use to tweak your monitor? My old monitor died last week and I have a new monitor and although the picture is clear it seems that the geometry is slightly off and I cannot seem to set the brightness/contrast to the right level.

I know a lot of this is personal preference but are there and sites with possibly a test pattern of some sort or something to help you get your monitor working correctly?

hi everyonefew days ago I installed my new Edge 91z. Everything is fine, except the fact that the screen has a weird glare we are not able to fine tune. I tried both the buttons on the monitor (the ones close to the switch on button), and using the "color optimization" in the  advanced Intel graphic ad multimedia panel, but looking at the screen it's still tiring. I found some review of the pc, and it seems they complain about the screen glare as well: "Glossy screen reflections." and "Sadly, this choice of material makes ThinkCentre Edge 91z prone to ambient light glare. " any help on this?thanks in advance

I am using XP. My wireless network is using the "G Wireless Modem Router3 by Belkin. It is running unsecured.

The network normally runs adequately - there are annoying moments when it just seems to freeze, but 30 seconds later it comes back to life.

Yesterday it was performing as usual (ie adequately). Today I cannot connect to the internet at all, either with IE or Mozilla (my normal browser). When I look at the network status all seems well - it is shown as connected, and the signal strength is "excellent". But the efforts to connect just time out: Mozilla says that "the connection was reset", lets you "try again", but it never connects.

I have AVAST running in fully protected mode. I decided to run Malwarebytes to check for anything unusual. It asked if I wanted to update the virus database - I agreed - it then hung, presumably because it could not make its connection! I ran it again, this time refusing to do the update, and it completed a Quick Scan reporting no problems found.

I disconnected from my network, and connected to a neighbour's unsecured network, and everything worked fine.

I switched my router off and on and tried my network again - same problem.

I tried doing a "repair" on the connection (by right clicking on the taskbar icon) - this operation rarely seems to complete normally on my computer. It frequently times out with a message like "unable to connect", but when you then examine t... Read more

Ok, so this is my problem. I have 4 devices that can connect to the network. The Main PC is wire connected to the wireless router which is connected to my modem. I have a laptop, a PS3, and another PC that can all connect to the internet with no problems through the wireless connection. At any given time, there are a minimum of 2 devices connected to the network. I rarely connect my PS3 to the network, and have recently kept my main PC shut down. My laptop is connected for as long as I have it in use, and the other PC is rarely connected. So I don't think it's a case of the network being overused.

The problem is that my main PC can no longer connect to the Internet. Since I bought my laptop, I stopped using my main PC for Internet, so I have no idea when it first started, but I estimate it's been almost 2 months.

I noticed that the problem seems to be with the Sending/Receiving of Packets. It sends out plenty, but receives barely any at all.

My PC is a Pentium 4, 1.7Ghz, 512MB DDRAM running Windows XP SP2

I have a D-Link DI-713P router, and a cable broadband connection.

I have tried the standard Repairing the connection, to no avail.

I have tried unplugging both the modem and the router, reconnecting them, then rebooting the PC, also to no avail.

When I connect the PC directly to the modem, the Internet works perfectly, so it's definitely not a hardware problem. I had initially suspected it may be a network card problem.

I was going to try a System... Read more

Answer:Wireless Network fine, PC cannot connect...

The problem PC connects OK to the modem but not to the router? That implies a problem with the cable or the router's LAN port.

Or maybe with the router's ethernet switch--does anything connect successfully to the router by ethernet?

Wonder if anyone can help me?
I have just moved house and been given the internet details by the landlord.
The provider is Virgin and the landlord asked for my MAC addresses of each device to allow access to the internet and gave me the password.
I managed to connect on my iPhone and my housemate who is also running windows 7 off a laptop can also connect.
However the network does not even appear in my wireless list. Several other wireless networks in the area are being detected but not the one in the house. I know it's not hidden as I can connect on other devices.
I have tried a manual setup with the network name, encription etc and tick "allow connection even when network is hidden" but all to no avail.
Unfortunately I have no access to the router as the landlord has that next door, however seems strange it would be a router issue if the other devices connect fine.
I have been through all the settings with my housemate and ensured we have the same setup and am now thoroughly baffled and annoyed.
Anyone have similar issues and resolve them, or know enough about such things to help?

Answer:Cannot detect one particular wireless network, others detecting fine

Make sure your landlord entered the MAC address correctly. Go over it with him again. Also, make sure you are recording the correct number. I've made mistakes in the past and recorded the incorrect number. From a command prompt, type; ipconfig /all
Look for the wireless adapters physical address.
I once wrote down the "ethernet" adapter's address and then spent hours trying to figure out why I couldn't connect.

I just got a brand new computer with wireless capabilities. After some configuring, i am connected to my home network, but i cant connect to the internet that is set up on the host computer. i have already checked all the settings on my computer, disabled the firewall (because i have windows xp sp2), and reset the router twice. i am just wondering what else could be the problem. could the local area connection have something to do with it? please help.

Answer:Wireless Network Works Fine, But Cant Get On Internet

How did you attempt to hook up so far? Did you try this:

start > control panel > network connections > wireless network setup wizard
Or this on the host computer:

start > control panel . network connections > setup or change your work or home network setup
Run the wizard, choose "This computer connects directly to the internet. The other computers on my network connect to the internet through this computer"

Wait a minute. Upon rereading your original post, I need to know what you are using a router for. Is it a wireless router? If so, then your new computer is not connecting to the internet through the 'host' computer, but rather through the router.

I shall await your answers.

We have a dlink dir635 router in our house which two computers connect to via wireless and two or three connect via a wire. The wireless network seems to disappear randomly. Sometimes it'll work for 10 minutes then go AWOL and sometimes it'll work for like a month or something with no problems.

This is only for the wireless users in the house - the network is 100% available to everybody on a wire.

Sometimes this can be fixed by resetting router. Sometimes not though - so I don't know for sure whether resetting the router does anything, it seems like an immediate cause and effect though when it does work.

Any ideas?

All computers are using windows xp home.

Linksys PCI G Wireless Adapter has stopped working after a semester at college. The network was wired there, so my desktop was plugged into it for 3 months, but the adapter itself was safe.
It worked before I left for college, and I just got back, set everything up again, and it is detected in device manager, I enabled, disabled, reinstalled drivers after removing the old ones, and tried installing and uninstalling it.

When at college, because this is a Vista machine, I had to update my drivers that manage my wired connection, because they were not working when I first got to college. I was wondering if this may be the cause of the problem.

I have recently purchased a new laptop (less than a week ago) and since purchase I have had the same recurring problem. Coincidentally, my wireless router is brand new also, and so it makes the situation even more difficult to eradicate. My laptop connects to the router wirelessly without a hitch, however, every five minutes or so, a small yellow exclaimation mark appears alongside the 'connection symbol' and it says there is either 'No Internet Access', or 'No Network Access', despite the fact it is connected to the wireless and has a full strength connection. However, my brother's laptop connects and surfs the web seamlessly, as well as the family desktop PC and various mobile devices. Linksys WRT350N Router all of the other computers on the network are working perfectly fine. I have tried 2 different wireless adapters.

The internet will stay for a few minutes then cutout for about a minute. I have been running ping tests side by side one going to the internet the other going to my router.
The router is constant connection no interruptions the internet cuts out as stated before.

Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

It could be a channel crossover problem or something else but this is difficult to just guess at because it can be many different problems.

I recently helped my girlfriend move up to college. She's living in an apartment complex that provides internet for it's residents through several ethernet ports spread throughout their apartment. I set up a wireless connection for her through one in the living room and initially it was working fine. Initially I purchase a relatively cheap ($30) Belkin wireless G router from Walmart and set up the connection and it worked great...for about a day or so. We tried all the tricks of soft resets and hard resets and nothing worked so I eventually decided I purchase a better router on Newegg. I purchased the LINKSYS WRT54GL due to it's superb ratings on Newegg. I set up the connection a couple days ago in the same location. I secured it, did everything and it worked great...for about a day or so. She lost connection again. I believe (I'm not there to see what the computer is saying) it just kept attempting to identify the network, but it never would and therefore she couldn't get the internet. I had her do a soft reset on the router again and it didn't work. I had her hook up wired into the router and that also didn't work. I finally had her unplug the main ethernet connection from the back of the router and plug it directly into her computer (this is the one that goes from the wall to the router) and voila! It works. So there is obviously data coming through the port in the wall, but there seems to be an issue with that data getting through the ro... Read more

Answer:Wireless Network Loses Connection After Working Fine For a Day

I'd like to see this when you're connected directly to the wall jack, then again after a factory reset of the router and connecting to a wired connection through the router. We'll deal with the wireless after we figure out the wired issues.
Try these simple tests.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands one at a time, followed by the Enter key:

NOTE: For the items below in red surrounded with < >, see comments below for the actual information content, they are value substitutions from the previous IPCONFIG command output! Do NOT type <computer_IP_address> into the command, that won't work.

PING <computer_IP_address>

PING <default_gateway_address>

PING <dns_servers>

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard.
Paste the results in a message here.

<computer_IP_address> - The IP Address of your computer, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above.

<default_gateway_address> - The IP address of the Default Gateway, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above.

I have a Gateway NV59 that I had not used for some time. Recently I started to use it, and I cannot connect to any web pages. I am connected to my wireless network. I have tried all the diagnostic tests I can find on my laptop, and they do not identify the problem. I am running Windows 7 Home Premium. I have Explorer, Safari, and Firefox browsers and non of them will work. Does anyone have any ideas? I am a competent computer user, but not a techie at all.

Answer:Solved: Can't connect to Web Pages, connection to wireless network is fine

If I plug in to my router directly I can browse my workgroup, access all shares without a problem. When I disable my onboard LAN card and enable wireless, I can't browse my workgroup or even ping the other computers by name or IP on my network.

I can browse the internet wirelessly, ping the router and the IP and subnet are the same when I'm using wireless or wired connection.

I removed and added client for MS networks, file and print sharing, removed all wireless security from my router and it still does not work. I don't know if its my Dell wireless card or an OS problem and don't know what else to try.

Any ideas?

Answer:cannot browse home network through wireless, wired works fine

On the pc that giving you trouble open this:

click on start
click on run
type: cmd
type: route print

See if it can see your network or your router when you connect wired or wireless?

click on start
click on run
type: services.msc
scroll down for wireless zero configuration make sure that's enabled

also look for network connections and make sure that's enabled
also computer browser is enabled
make sure xp firewall (built-in is disabled)

I'm running Windows 7 and uninstalled the driver for my wireless network adapter (Atheros AR9285) because it wasn't working properly. Now, the adapter won't work AT ALL. I updated the driver via ethernet, and Device Manager says that the adapter is working fine, however Windows is acting like I don't even have a wireless adapter. What's do I do?!

Answer:Device manager says that wireless network adapter is fine and windows won't use it

How did you update the driver? Did you get it from the manufacturer? Other sources should not be trusted.

My PC sees my network, but it 'can't connect' to it.  Tried the recommended fixes by Windows 8.1 and also power cycled my router to no avail.  As stated, my other devices pick up the network as normal.

Answer:K410 won't connect to wireless network, iPhone and Macbook pick it up fine

Here are some solutions to try if you can't connect to Wi-Fi. Follow the below mentioned steps to resolve the problem:1.    Delete the network and let Windows re-find it. Then enter the password again. 2.    Change TCP/IP settings, if the IP address is set to manual 3.    Perform a system restore back to when it worked. 4.    Create a new user profile to check if the profile is not corrupt. 5.    If none of the above steps work, follow the below mentioned link to resolve the issue:

I'm a software consultant and as such travel around to various client sites. At one site I'm working on now my computer now fails to connect to their wireless (it is one of those that says "Unsecured' but once you connect and launch a browser you are prompted for credentials.) I've been successfully connecting with this PC and this network for over a year, but for the past 2 weeks it fails everytime and when I try Troubleshooting it gives me the standard "Wireless Network Connection does not have a valid IP configuration" message.

My first thought when this began was that they had a hardware problem and that their router was failing to assign IP addresses. However, others sitting in the same cube area as me are able to connect to it successfully and I have not once succeeded in two weeks now. Also, I have no problems at all connecting to OTHER wireless networks (home, other clients, Starbucks, a wireless hotspot a co-worker set up here to unblock me the other day, etc.)

I have not found anything in searching online that helps me to determine how to troubleshoot this since it is only related to one single network.

Any ideas?

Friend bought an Acer laptop E5-575-54SM Intel i5-6200U; Windows 10 Home; 4GB RAM; 1TB; WiFi featuring MU-MIMO.

When I connected it to his WiFi network it was very slow. I ran a speedtest. It only gets 1 Mbps where it should be 20 Mbps.

I connected my iPhone to the network but got the same results. So, I assumed it was a problem with the WiFi. However, a different laptop (Toshiba) does get the 20 Mbps speed via WiFi.

Well, that is just not possible.
Since my iPhone was also slow, I know the problem is with the network.
But, since the old Toshiba laptop connects fine, the DSL modem and WiFi router are okay.

Two days later, the new Acer was running fine on the network, only to come to a crawl today.

I am stumped.

Hello,My name is Vladan and I have had a problem occur yesterday. When I plug in my network cable it stops working. My ethernet internet connection status shows that Ipv4 and Ipv6 have "no internet accsess". It's not just my laptop's wired internet that stopped working, it's the whole network I have in my apartment consisting of two more computers who also lost their wired-ethernet internet accsess. I suspect something is wrong with my router since it relays my internet but wireless works fine so I'm stumped. Answer:Network troubleshoot - Ethernet (wired) stopped working, Wireless works fine.

Did your ISP give you this router such as your leasing it etc? If so contact them for a replacement. If you own this router then I'd try factory reset button to set it back to factory default. If that doesn't cure this then buy a new router. They are pretty cheap these days.Your router could have been hacked, the access denied is strange!

Although I?m not an expert, I?ve agreed to help check and tune-up the computers for a charity which provides a helpline and counsellors for adults and children with emotional problems.

All the people staffing it are volunteers, including my girlfriend, who has told me that no-one maintains the computers there and hasn?t done for a couple of years or so. Which means they're in a less than optimal state. So they?re happy for me to come in and do it on an ?as-is? basis. None of the people in the office have more than very basic computer literacy when it comes to the system side.

I?m going in on Monday and would like someone more experienced to check over what I plan to do and make any suggestions necessary to do a good job.

The reason I?m posting here is that it's a collection of tasks encompassing security and optimisation in a network. Although I?ve done all the tasks listed below on our two stand-alone computers at home, I?m not familiar with what changes might be needed when doing these tasks on a network, nor about what I should be doing to optimize the network.

From what I?ve been told, there is a small network of three computers. Only one has e-mail access. Don?t know why that is, but it means everyone has to go to that computer to see if there?s any mail. That needs to be fixed. Perhaps their Internet Service Provider only recognises one computer as being eligible to access its mail server.

Another network problem is t... Read more

Answer:Advice on tuning-up a charity's network

Oh boy! You need to be very careful when doing this kind of job. You have for too many requirements to go through it all via keyboard. But you really should take note of the following points. As you are dealing with 'real people' and their information think of the data protection act, who pays if you get it wrong, you really do need to know how to set up users and security if you paln to network them properly otherwise there's no point to it all, what about backups? This list is not exhaustive but I suggest you are REALLY careful. Let me give you a clue, it cost me over Ģ800.00 per year for professional indemity insurance but if I ever claimed I wouldn't be able to get cover anymore! My personal opinion is get a professional to do it and save yourself a whole world of hurt. Good luck, I think you'll need it.

I have searched for this problem and can't find it anywhere. Every few minutes my IBM Access Connections keeps shutting down, then restarting all by itself. I usually don't have to do anything to restart it, but once in a while it takes too long to restart, so I reconnect manually. I don't know if it makes any difference, but it didn't happen until I downloaded Google Chrome. I've installed Service Pack 3, but no change. And while I'm at it, my laptop will no longer restart when I click "restart". It just powers off. I was attempting to do some networking tweaks as I always do with windows xp. I needed to change my MTU to a different value, however after googling a bit I notice that Vista will ignore a Manual MTU due to the network auto tuning. Of course with netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled, I can disable this feature. I am curious if any of you have noticed any gain or negative impact from disabling this feature.

I have a friend who's computer works great on my network and my computer works great on his network, but when his computer is hooked to his network internet connectivity is slow and intermittantly fails.

Both computers are were connected directly to the router via the same ethernet cable, both units are laptops.

Again, vista believes it is connected to the internet, and it is, but the connection is just horrible. At my house it works beautifully.

His computer that is not connecting:
HP pavilion dv6748us.
procesor is AMD turion64x2
OS VISTA Home Premium 32bit
2 gb RAM

My laptop that worked on his connection is:
old SONY with windows XP pro
1gb RAM

Already have done the following:
Reset internet explorer 7
used the MSCONFIG console to turn off ALL startup processes just in case.
Ran a quick scan with superantispyware

I would have tried a differant browser but I could not download it, took it to my house so I could use a flash drive or let it sit forever and download and to my amazement there was no connectivity issues whatsoever.

Hello. I have a problem recently where this website I try to browse to for an online Madden video game league simply will not load. I can access it and use the forum just fine on my phone via cellular connection, or even other WiFi networks. But my phone on my WiFi and either of my computers wired into my router, it never allows me access.
I have FIOS and an Actiontech WI424WR router. Every other website works just fine. I have logged into the router and checked every setting I can think of.. firewall, parental controls, access/deny lists, website blocking, nothing looked out of the ordinary. I cannot even ping the website. I also did a complete reset of my router this morning, same issue. Any ideas?

hey guys
so i finally decided to install win7 x86 - everything went well - put all the standard stuff on there etc - i rebooted many times because of installations and updates
on my last reboot it just got stock in the bios screen (verifying dmi pool data..success! etc)
so i rebooted, same thing, took the disc out, same thing - turned off boot devices same thing
tried to use window's useless repair tools (whatever happened to repair install?) which didn't help - so i decided to format and reinstall - then it says it was unable to do that (partition error or something)

the annoying this that this EXACT..i mean EXACT same thing happened when i installed vista sp1 from scratch - this happened - and to fix it i had to leave my pc open overnight with the hard drive cables all the morning with my fingers crossed i tried the installation again - and it worked.

my d: always disappears (single hard disk sata 233gig (250)) - sometimes it'll vanish from my computer and stuff - but this can't be the problem because the d: is a single drive on its own - my c: is a25gig partition from my e: - so it's completely unrelated.

does it matter how i replug the sata cables (2 of them) into the mother board? - they're both being recognised anyway

this is really annoying though - mostly because there isn't really an explanation - and because this random stuff always happens to my pc! - is it my hard drive because that's the only thing that would half- make sense :-/

now ... Read more

Answer:installs fine, runs fine, reboots..not fine

Did you delete/recreate the partition? If you haven't then do this first and try re-installing Win 7. I wouldn't recommend removing the watermark as that can have unpredictable results.

I have an interesting problem that has been driving some pretty smart IT guys nuts. To perform my job I have to access a certain venders web pages that has security set up that I do not know all the details of. Anyway on the company PC using the company image that is a normal XP image and maintained by Comp U Com.

Any time I access this vender's web page it works fine until just after the log in screen. Once I put in my user name and password and click Ok IE just goes blank white and that's it. No error msg no nothing, its not locked up as the frame is still there and the world is turning but nothing else.

This happens on all the company PCs accessing this particular vender's web page as I went and checked. So I wanted to see if it the problem was in the PC or the network. I took the company PC home and was able to successfully log into that vender's web page from my cable modem at that house. Worked fine.

I have already added the vender web pages to the trusted zone and enabled all the active X and everything, deleted the cookies, tried some proxies etc. Every setting that can be done on the PC I have tried.

My question is what is the company network security system blocking that IE needs to work and how to resolve?

Answer:IE blank page problem on company network but works fine off company network

Oh and to add this I loaded FireFox and from the company PC on the company network it logs in fine but FireFox will not display the page correctly and all the buttons do not work right so that is another issue.

I would like to get IE working as that is what these pages were written for

The browsers I've been trying to use are mozilla, chrome, and ie.

The wireless is fine, and windows firewall is not a problem.

The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.

IE gives me this:

Virgin ar upgrading out internet to 60mb yay! for free yay!

However at the moment we are using the virgin router to get the internet into the house and then using a Belkin play for the wireless netwrok to get internet. the reason for this is that the Belkin router has a USB socket on it that we have a hard drive plugged into it with all our music on it so that we cna access our music from all the computers around the house.

This has worked fine fo rus for a while now.

However with Virgin upgrading the internet they are provinding some new superhub (theri words) wireless router for free and it makes sense to use it as I suspect it will be faster and able to cope with the 60mb internet speed. We would however like to still access out hard drive from all around the house.

So is it possible to get out internet from the virgin wireless router and access the hard drive through our Belkin router? So we need to access two wireless routers at the same time. Is this easy or horrible complicated? i will need to set up 5 computers to do this - 1 is running windows 7 basic,1 windows 7home premium, 1 windows 7professional, 2 running vista.

Note: The "primary" router can be an actual router, a software gateway like Microsoft Internet Connection Sharing, or a server connection that has the capability to supply more than one IP address using DHCP server capability. No changes are made to the primary "router" configuration.

Configure the IP address of the secondary router(s) to be in the same subnet as the primary router, but out of the range of the DHCP server in the primary router. For instance DHCP server addresses through, I'd assign the secondary router as it's IP address, for another router, etc.

Disable the DHCP server in the secondary router.

Setup the wireless section just the way you would if it was the primary router, channels, encryption, etc.

Hey all,

I have an E4200 router with a fairly new HTPC wired to it, and another desktop connected wirelessly using a DWA-552 card (2.4 GHz only). The internet speeds work great, I get the advertised 20Mbit from Comcast, and my pings in TF2, etc are also good.

The problem is file transfers from PC to PC is horribly slow. Using teracopy, I get 17kB/sec. Using Windows file copy, I get <12kB/sec. Copying a 0.5 mB pic is bad, transfering a movie is impossible.

Using inSSIDer, the RSSI is about -49 on my wireless PC.

I've tried google, (and searching this forum), and I'm not finding anything. Am I overlooking something stupid? Is there something else I can try?

Answer:Wireless: PC to PC is slow, from internet is fine

Log in to the unit and under Applications & Games >> QoS, check that and make sure you speeds are set correct there.

also...... Did you try hooking both PC's up to the router via network cable instead of wifi?

also, Try these troubleshooting steps:

A] With the help of Cisco Connect Software (if at all you have installed the router with the help of this software)
1] Open the software and go to the option which says "Router Settings"
2] Then click on the option which says "Advanced Settings" which will take you to the router's configuration page.
3] Then click on security and disable the SPI firewall.

B] If you haven't installed Cisco Connect then you can log on to the router's user interface using it's default IP address in the browser which is and type in 'admin' as the password leaving the username field blank. This will take you to the router's web interface and then follow steps as mentioned above to make the changes.

Having issues with one of my PCs in my Home Network. I run DSL/Wireless Router and all my wireless devices run good but my ethernet connection on my Main PC's has issues. Hard to explain but it seems to work fine after booting machine but after a short while of surfing, it loses speed. It doesn't lose connection, just speed. Have done multiple speed tests and the same bad results. I have tested my laptop on the ethernet connection and seems to work fine. Replaced the PCI ethernet adapter in the machine and did not fix the problem. Tried all ports on the router, same results. Any assistance would be great!

Making a post because this has happened to not one, but TWO computers that I own and I'm completely baffled.
Basically what has happened to these computers is that they cannot seem to resolve DNS at all through a wired connection, but wireless is fine. Windows troubleshooting indicates that everything seems fine, it just can't get a response from the DNS server. I run ESET Smart Security on both machines, and uninstalling it actually does not fix the issue, as well as reinstalling network drivers, so I'm starting to pin it down to a Windows specific bug. Allowing the DNS address to be assigned or assigning it myself to Google or whatnot does not fix the issue. I run a myriad of programs unfortunately and it's going to be very difficult pinning it down to a specific executable that is causing the issue, at least to my limited knowledge, and I was wondering if anyone else had experienced a similar issue and would be able to share what caused it?

I can work around it with a stupid, weird fix of adding a USB NIC, which somehow, for some unknown alien reason, doesn't suffer from the DNS issue over time on both these systems.

Hi, this my first time posting and I really would refrain from bothering people if I could, but I've been having this issue with my wireless for the last month so I thought perhaps someone could help.

The OS is a Windows XP home.

I go into IPCONFIG/ALL and it tells me that my wireless is disconnected

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers.
I've tried going into the router (it's a NETGEAR MR814) IP, and I've added it to the list of devices that can connect to it, but it's not working. It just... won't work. It's not that there's a security lock on my router because I've disabled it and it still wouldn't work.

So now I'm completely befuddled, and disheartened, and on the verge of just taking apart my machine were it not for the ethernet connection. Can someone please help?

Answer:Ethernet works fine, Not Wireless

First try going into network property and see if you can see it.
If you see something like "Local Area connection 2" with wireless network card, right click on the icon and view available network/connection.
If you see your wireless router setting, highlight and click "Connect".

Hi there,

Not sure if this should be a networking or a operating system question, I guess it's a little of both.

Here's what's happening. I have a cable modem going to a wireless router. My PC(1) is plugged by wire into the router; another pc(2) and Mac Powerbook running wireless. Everything was running great until roommate was using PC1 a couple days ago. Now PC1 will not connect to anything but PC2 and laptop run fast and fine on wireless. I have cleaned with SpyBot and Ad-Aware, as well as Avg in Safe Mode and nothing comes up (usually that's all I have to do to fix it). I checked winipcfg and my network adapter is there with an ip address but if i release, it will not find another ip to renew. Also tried to restore to a couple days ago, no dice.

Here's where it get's weird. If I click just about any folder (my computer, my documents, my network), I get a fatel errod saying that Explorer has made a fatel error and will shut down. I click okay and it just goes back to the desktop, but doesn't shut down.

Roommate talked to ISP tech support (before i knew about the issue) and they were no help aside form wanting to send someone out, which i know is a waste of time since the connection to the modme is fine and that's all they will touch.

Anybody have any ideas? Computer with issue is running Win 98SE (I know I sucks but i never use it anymore...that's why rommmate was using it. haha).

This is a VERY unusual problem for me. I have Never run into this before. I know this is long but please bare with me while reading this.

Well I am typing to you all from my linux box. I have a desktop that runs Windows XP SP3 and have not been able to get it to connect for months now. I use an smc2862w-g USB card to connect from it ordinarily but like I said, it hasn't connected to my home network for months. It reads and connects to my neighbors networks just fine but for some reason it is isolated to my home network. My home router/modem is an Arris model.

Today while I was talking to some guys I know in IRC who work the IT field, I got it to work for all of about 10 minutes. The problem is, is that it was an intermittent sync. I noticed that when I were to change channels in my router it would follow to let's say channel 11 but the card would bounce back and forth between 11 and 10 causing intermittent sync. If I changed to channel 4 then it would bounce between that and 5. Channel 6, same thing and so on and so forth. I read somewhere that it could be a problem with conflicting chipsets between the router and card but that doesn't make much sense to me. I've been in the computer field for a few years now as a tech support agent so this does not add up.

This is the first time I've seen this happen.

I'm trying to solve a network problem with my mom's Vista laptop. i've searched the forums a bit, but it's having the opposite problem that most people seem to have. Network and Sharing shows no works available. since Vista can't find a network Windows Update fails. all internet browsers work fine. 3rd party programs that access the internet are fine as well and can download their updates. i've disabled the wired device and the wireless and re-enabled. i've tried changing the IP to a fixed address.

Are you getting any Windows Update error messages?
If you can access the internet you should be able to download updates but there may be other issues going on.

If you set your ip address manually make sure it's on the same subnet as your router.

I am having a really difficult problem at the moment...
I am an IT Tech and all our pc's work fine on the network AND Internet.
I have a clients laptop with me, it works perfectly on the network but NO internet what so ever. I done numerous virus scans, Malware removal etc but with no luck sorting the problem.

Also, if it helps, when I try to repair the wireless connection "Windows could not finish repairing the problem because the followng action cannot be completed: Disabling wireless adapter" also previously, same error message but something about the DNS when repairing the wireless connection. the drivers are up to date. Realtek RTL8187. I have configured it manually including the correct DNS.

Also if i try to disable programs to run on startup through msconfig while in the Administrator account it tells me i do not have administrative rights, even though the account does.

Need to get this sorted asap, without a format.

Hi. I've got five computers on my home network and after installing windows 7 on all of them some years ago, network connection hasn't been an issue at all (like never). I have an Xbmcbuntu installation on my media computer and the network connection just stopped working. I could play youtube videos, but not access my personal desktop. Accessing my desktop from my laptop or from my mom's computer worked fine so I thought it was just this xbmcbuntu computer that was having issues. I then noticed that I couldn't access any other computers from my laptop either, but only if I use a network cable rather than the wireless. I then thought that there was some issue with that particular cable, but using the same cable as my mom's computer uses doesn't work either. I've reset the router to it's factory defaults without any luck. I've also noticed that I can access my desktop by typing \\Ip, but not \\computer name. I have no idea where this issue came from, nor do I know where the issue really resides Can someone give me some tips?

Answer:Internet is fine, but having some odd network issues

Hi there,

Have you updated the network drivers to the latest? Also, if you are able to access the shared network resources by typing the IP Address, that's just fine.... I do this all the time. You may also create a shortcut on your desktop/mapped a network drive by using the IP Address for easy access of the shared network files.

Map Network Drive Shortcut - Create
Create a shortcut to (map) a network drive - Microsoft Windows Help
Hope this helps.

I am having problems with Windows Update on some, but not all, of
the computers on my home network. All are running Windows 7
(combination of Home Premium and Ultimate).

Two of the PC's have not been able connect to Windows Update since the
start of July. Both are connected to the network through Ethernet.

The error code I am getting on both PCs is 0x80072EE2, which indicates
ERROR_INTERNET_TIMEOUT. However, this has been persistent for weeks
on these two PC's, but does not affect other PC's on the same network.

e.g. I have another wired PC that is not experiencing
problems. Two laptops that also run Windows 7 can connect
wirelessly to Windows Update.

I run a Linux PC as a firewall/NAT/Squid box with my home network
behind it. Squid was enabled relatively recently, so I tried
reverting to a no-Squid configuration (NAT/ufw only) which has been
working correctly for years, but the problem on the 2 PCs persist.

The two PC's with Windows Update problems happened to be in the same room
on the same switch, so I initially suspected networking cable/router/switch
issues. But moving one of the nonworking PC's to another room,
using a different switch and cable, next to a PC that has working
Windows Update. With the PC's side by side, one is able to connect
to Windows Update, one is not. Which seems to me to rule out a
general networking/routing issue.

The two problem PCs do not otherwise have any apparent issues
accessing the Intern... Read more

Answer:0x80072ee2 for weeks on some PCs while others on same network are fine

Strangest of all is that this appears to have persisted through a repair install.
The version number for wuapp.exe is one that was only released at the beginning of the month - so should have been reverted during the repair - although I suppose it's possible that the system did manage to update it afterwards.

Please open an Elevated Command Prompt, and run the following commands

We recently installed a netgear wireless router, and I was able to configure the netwok for all the computers in my house. However, my desktop is the only one that doesn't see any computers, and can not be accessed by any other computers. Also, if I hit view workgroup computers, it says my workgroup is inaccessible. How can i fix this?

Answer:Network is fine except for one computer...mine!

Turn off any firewalls for debugging. If the firewall is the problem, you'll have to configure it to allow access to "trusted zone" addresses. Note that some firewalls must be completely uninstalled to stop them from affecting your networking.

PING each computer by IP address, and if successful, PING by name. You can obtain the IP address of a computer by opening a command prompt (DOS window) and typing IPCONFIG. This should work for any Windows version.

All computers should be in the same workgroup for computer browsing to function properly. File & Print Sharing has to be enabled on any computer you wish to share files or printers from. You also need to actually share the resource in question from My Computer, right click on the drive/printer/folder, and select sharing.

If you encounter difficulties accessing computers that are visible in Network Neighborhood, make sure the computer being accessed has an account with the same name/password as the system connecting to it uses to login.

While the default NetBIOS setting is correct for normal network configurations, it's possible for it to be altered, and it costs nothing to make sure it's correct. NETBIOS over TCP/IP must be enabled for normal network browsing.

Ok, this has been driving me up the wall.

It is my office computer, it is on a network and accesses the internet through a router that services all the computers. On my computer only, I am getting a problem whereby when attempting to access any web page, the connection just sits there for ages then times out. Eventually, refreshing and retrying and the connection will then restore itself and work again.

Now it was doing this very rarely - say once a week originally. Each time it did this I tried restarting the router thinking it was a problem with the Router and indeed every time it finished rebooting and connecting the internet connection worked fine. The problem is now it is doing it up to 10 - 15 times a day, instead once or twice a week, so it is beyond just the odd restarting router to fix it.

The thing is, I have now found, after it occuring so often, that all other computers on the network can access the internet fine without this issues - including when my computer is in the middle of a time out event. This also includes the wireless service which I am connected to through my iphone, which suggests the problem is specific to my computer and not the network.

Now what makes it problematic for me to troubleshoot is that when I open a cmd window during it's timeouts, and ping the router, server, and DNS servers (googles public ones) they ALL work fine. Traceroutes also show no issues. So according to ping tests and traceroutes the internet should b... Read more

I have got a bit of a problem with two laptops connecting to a network, one is an old dell with a zyxel pcmcia wireless card and a d-link usb ethernet adaptor, and the other is a lenovo 3000 n200 using its in-built ethernet and wireless.

They can both connect to the network, but after about 15-20 mins they just cut off, they have been tried using both wired and wireless connections and the problem is the same with each one. The only way to get them back is to keep restarting the PC or doing the 'repair' on the network connection.

The odd thing is that the 6 other desktops in the office work fine over the network without cutting out!

The (1) Laptop and the (1) Desktop read and write from the "Q" drive that the (1) File Server shares. I keep my work files on that drive and all (3) PCs access them.

Up until yesterday, this has worked perfectly fine. I have been reading and writing to the "Q" drive from all (3) PCs running Win10.

Yesterday, I walked from my home office to my living room, turned on my Laptop to get some work done. It's been about 3 days since I've used my laptop (all was fine then) and now I can NOT access any network drives from my Laptop. I can see the other machines, but can not access them. I get err... My computer will not connect to my router, unless I disable my firewall. I am using Panda Platinum Internet Security. I can connect to someone elses wireless router with the firewall enabled. I have tried to create exceptions within the software to let me connect, but it doesn't work. I keep the network card disabled when I am using the wireless. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software with the card enabled and the wireless card disabled, but it still wouldn't connect to the router without the firewall diasbled. I can connect wirelessly even though the card was disabled when I installed the software. I also tried Zone Alarm and that wouldn't let me connect either. I am running Windows XP Pro SP2. The network card is a Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet card. If anyone has any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Can't connect to wired router, but wireless is fine.

so I assume then that you are trying to connect via a wired link?
if so, then perhaps you could edit your post to help explain what the problem is?

You are having problems with your wired connection on a 1)laptop 2)desktop
You have ICF 1)enabled 2) disabled
You have tried uninstalling panda firewall shit and connecting 1)yes 2)no
When panda is installed, does your lan connection a) show up as connected but no traffic goes through or b) lan connection says 'no connection
What method are you using for ip addressing 1)DHCP 2)static
if answer to above was 2, then
Are your ip settings correct 1)yes 2)no

or i just totally misinterpreted your problem, in which case, i'm sorry

Dell Latitude D520 running Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 3. Everything about this laptop works fine except for its wireless ethernet. Even the wireless ethernet works fine when accessing the internet and when downloading files; but, when accessing the LAN, I get 'access denied' sometimes and other times I get sl-o-o-o-o-w transfers of files and messages telling me the files I'm copying or running are corrupt.

Example: I attempted to copy a file across my LAN to this laptop. On the WiFi, it copied very slowly for about 10 minutes or so and finally aborted when the bar graph showed about 20% complete. On the wired ethernet, the same file copied successfully in about 12 seconds.

I've checked the settings for the wired and wireless NIC and I can't find any differences.

To be clear, the wired LAN does fine for both internet and LAN access. The wireless ethernet works fine for the internet and presents the problem only when accessing the LAN.

I'm trying to get a Windows XP Home laptop to connect to the web wirelessly. The modem/router (leased from my DSL provider) gives me an address & other network settings fine. I can get to the modem/router & bring up it's configuration webpage, but that's all. I can't even ping my network printers ro PCs. Other wireless computers on the network have no problems. A wired connection works completely fine (web = OK). Here's a list of things I've tried:

netsh interface ip delete arpcache
netsh int ip reset /log.txt
netsh winsock reset catalog
ipconfig /flushdns
verified wireless hard switch is on
restarted dhcp, dns, windows zero configuration via services.msc
scanned for viruses
reinstalled wireless drivers
tried a known working wireless usb adapter - same issue
disabled firewalls
flushed IE8 browser (temp files, cookies, etc.)
reset IE8 to fresh install defaults
sfc /scannow
disabled windows zero configuration & used the Intel Proset Wireless software

Anyone have any other ideas? Thanks in advance!

Greetings, chiepler.

Looks like you've tried everything I would have suggested. The only other things I can offer are:

1. Make sure your proxy settings are clear.

2. Boot to a Linux distro (Mint is a good one), let Mint/Firefox try to access, see if you get a change in symptoms.

I just had a quick question. I have a wireless N adapter on my PC and I have never had any trouble. I switched ISP's and they brought out a new router and now my network always says 'identifying', and will only say 'connected' every 5 minutes or so, and will only stay connected for maybe 2 seconds tops. What I find weird is even when the network says it's identifying the internet works just fine, 25ms ping on speedtest. Signal strength is 4 out of 5 bars. I'm not too concerned since everything works just fine, but I was wondering if anyone knows what is up with this new phenomenon.

4) Reboot Vista computer, no help. Network settings look normal, just no connection to wireless router. Incredibly irritating Vista diagnostic tool suggests I connect to a another network, or recycle the router. (If the router was close enough to be easily recycled, I would just plug in an ethernet cable. But it is not, and I am tired of unnecessary trips to the basement.)
5) Power cycle router, and everything fine again.

Does not happen with every sleep cycle. No clue what makes it fail sometimes and not others.

Any suggestions? This happens about every other day, so of course, it will not fail when I want it to, but if anyone has an idea, I will get ready for the next breakage.

Answer:Wireless LAN fails, all parts work fine.

Just in case anyone else is having this problem, I found more information on the trigger--If Vista goes to sleep while Firefox is active, the connection is broken. The only way I have found to reconnect, is reboot the router.

If Firefox is closed first, before the Sleep mode, all is well. Restart Vista, the connection resumes fine. So, its a work-around, but I am even more confused as whats up. Firefox interfering with some Vista<->Netgear secret handshake?

With a wired connection I can get the high broadband speeds I would expect (up to 6Mbps), however when I connect to my new Orange Livebox router wirelessly (with a connection rating of Excellent) the broadband speed is less than 1Mbps. I have tried the obvious possibilities such as different wireless G cards/temporarily disabling the wirelss security etc. Could anyone please provide me with any possible answers?

Answer:Slow broadband going wireless, but fine wired.

There are many reasons why the wireless connection would be lower then wired.1. the location of the livebox (near metal objects or magnetic fields)2. Local radio interference3. the line provided by BT (ask them to check it)4. filters faulty (change it)5. the reported speed is acually incorrect)what it would not be is the network card or the livebox it they are talking to each other. What you need to do is ping the PC click here

I have an Acer laptop (Windows 7) and SMC router.

The laptop connects to the wireless network but it says 'no internet access'. Troubleshooting nets me the information that "the DNS Server isn't responding".

The laptop can easily connect to the internet via ethernet.
It also connects wirelessly without issue to my phone's hotspot.
I have other computers that connect wirelessly through the SMC router to the internet without issue.
The laptop used to connect to the internet wirelessly through this same router. I did not use the laptop for a couple of weeks and when I fired it up again the wireless would not go to the internet.

To recap, there is nothing wrong with the wireless adapter on the laptop. The router's wireless network is fine and dandy.

So how can I get the laptop to understand the wireless signal is fine so connect to the internet already?

Answer:Connected but no internet (wireless - wired is fine)

A friend who reads my online journal, suggested winsockfix. My laptop is 64-bit and winsockfix complained loudly that it did not work at 64-bit. I tapped the options anyway and soon it said to reboot and when I did, all was magically fixed!

Hi all.
First of all, I want to thank you guys in advance for putting your time and effort to solve my issue. any answer would be grateful to me.

My internet provider is At&t and as I mentioned in the title, wireless internet works perfectly fine, but Ethernet connection doesn't work on my desktop. Currently I am using wireless adapter on my PC, and it works just fine. I tried disabling the wireless connection, resetting the modem, re installing the Ethernet driver and anything I can think of.

The odd thing is that my brother used Ethernet connection just fine with his desktop about three weeks ago, with same router and same cable. So I am assuming that my computer is the one with the problem but I can't figure it out why.

I'm going to try out the different cable tomorrow, but I highly doubt it will fix my problem.

Help me guys. If you need any other information, ask away. I will give it to you as much as I can

Attachment file is my network and sharing center status unidentified network is my ethernet connection

Here is my ipconfig /all result

Answer:Wireless works fine, Ethernet doesn't

Odds are that the NIC has failed.

Another low possibility (in addition to cable and router LAN port) are the PC's firewall or security suite misconfigured or corrupted.

Another thing to try: in Device Manager right click on the ethernet - Properties - Advanced tab - for the 'Speed & Duplex' property try different values beginning with '100 Mbps full duplex' and '10 Mbps full duplex.'

lets get rid of norton first

Norton Removal Tool
I would recommend that you restart the PC and run the removal tool for a second time or even a third time - I have found instances where the removal tool needs to be run twice to fully remove all traces of norton and symantec from the PC Core&pvid=f-core-cur&version=current

All Versions - The Norton Removal Tool uninstalls all Norton 2010/2009/2008/2007/2006/2005/2004/2003 products, Norton 360 and Norton SystemWorks 12.0 from your computer.
