Album art files not visible on shared netwk folder

Question: Album art files not visible on shared netwk folder

I curently use a shared folder on my desktop to store all my music collection that then allows me to either use WMP on my desktop or WMP / Itunes on my laptop. I am currently trying to add all the missing artwork. a lot of my artwork can be seen in WMP but not itunes. I know how to get the album art into itunes but when i look at the shared network folder on the laptop it doesnt show any files except for the ripped music files. On the desktop i can see the all the files. I guess there is a setting to allow this but I can't seem to find it! Desktop is XP, laptop is vista. All ideas welcome, many thanks :-)

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hey everyone! So here's my set-up: Windows 7 x64-bit Ultimate machine has a RAID 6 "drive" shared (on homegroup) for home-server purposes. I have four folders shared and from my gaming machine (same username, windows 10, same homegroup) I can copy/paste files and folders into the shared folders on the server.

Directory structure is "\\CINDER-SERVER" (which is really the D: drive on the server) and it shows my four sub-folders along with the "users" folder (5th folder).

My problem is this: I created a new folder entitled "RPG Books" (D:\RPG Books) but it does not show up when I view it from my gaming rig at all. I can still access and even upload/paste files to the other shared folders... but I can't at all see the newly created folder.
I checked the "share" option on the folder and it shows the exact same sharing rules as the other folders (users: "administrator" and "cinderwolf" both listed for all other folders as well as the newly made rpg books folder).
I've re-started the server twice now and it's not had any effect.

Anyone have any ideas and solutions as to why one new folder won't appear where others do?
First networking problem since I built this system.

I'm sharing a folder with other PCs on the network and it works fine, except in this case:

1. file in D:\folder1\ (normal folder)
2. move file to D:\folder2\ (shared folder)
3. file not visible from other PCs

Why is that? Any solutions?

Answer:File moved to a shared folder => not visible

you could try disabling offline files to see if it forces the refresh.

I would restart both systems after making the change.

I have two computers. One is an older desktop (D) I brought from work. The other is a newer laptop (L). Both have XP Pro on them, and both have a wired connection to my Verizon FIOS router. The problem I am having is that if I create a shared folder on L then I can see it on D but not vice versa.

D has a name that looks something like "foo.bar.com". I have tried accessing its shared folder from L both as \\foo.bar.com\folderName and as \\IPaddress\folderName where IPaddress is the address I got from the ipconfig command on D.

Since this was my old office desktop, I was logging into my corporate network when the computer was there. When I moved it home, I created a local user with admin rights and ave been using this local account to log in. Can this have something to do with my issue?

thanks much!

Answer:Can't make shared folder visible on local net

Your laptop is part of a workgroup and most likely your desktop was and is part of a domain. That is probably why you are seeing the problems. You could use the page below to change your desktop to be in the same workgroup as your laptop.Make sure you know all your passwords on the desktop as once you change from domain to workgroup you may find yourself needing to do a re-install.http://support.microsoft.com/kb/295017Some threads to help you understand:http://www.daniweb.com/forums/threa...http://support.microsoft.com/kb/295017http://www.softwaretipsandtricks.co...Finally it might be worth making a note off your current licence key as used on the desktop before you start making changes as it may come handy if you need to re-install. To do that use the Magical Jelly Bean Keyfinder to save those keys.Magical Jelly Bean Keyfinder can be downloaded from here:http://www.magicaljellybean.com/key...___________________________________________? This is a problem that occured on my computer once before and i fixed it, but now i cant remember how i fixed it.

Basically, i have one shared folder on my computer that people on my LAN in college can access. Inside this folder there are 6 subfolders, each containing certain files (Avi's, Mp3's and text files). However when accessing the folders through the network, only two of them seem to be containing files. The rest appear empty, even though when i check the directorys on my computer i can see them.So in short, some folders are fine, and others appear empty even though they contain files.

I am pretty sure that it is a windows update Hotfix that is causing this problem, as i'm almost sure i had to re-install a hotfix last time to fix it. The problem is i dont know which hotfix it is and i am having trouble finding any information on the internet. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello everyone,

I'm using a laptop (with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit installed) as a DVR and media streamer to all other devices in the house.
My TV recordings are recorded into a temporary folder and when the recording is finished the program moves the files into the My Videos folder.

The My Videos folder is shared so we can watch the recordings from the Xbox downstairs or other Windows 7 devices in the house.
This worked pretty well in the past but for some reason new recordings (or downloads) aren't shared by default anymore. All files have a small lock icon (shared with nobody) and I have to manually share new files within an already shared folder.

This is pretty annoying and takes away the convenience.

I would appreciate any tip to fix this problem to have all files in the shared folder(s) shared by default.

Thanks in advance!

Answer:New files aren't shared in shared folder

It's easy once you know how, just right click the C:/Video's folder and choose properties, Security tab then Advanced button, then just put a check mark where it says "Replace all Child Object Permission Entries with Inheritable Permissions Entries from this Object, then hit Apply, OK....this will fix the problem you described.

I pinned the Files folder in my onedrive.live.com account to the Windows 10 Start menu, and also saved this folder as a favorite in Edge, which is my default browser. But after closing Edge, when I then click the onedrive.live.com tile in the start menu, or after opening Edge, if I click the OneDrive link in the favorites bar, OneDrive opens my Shared folder rather than the desired Files folder. To see the Files folder, I can click "OneDrive" in the menu bar. Moreover, after the Files folder has been opened, if I then add a tab and click on OneDrive in the favorites bar, OneDrive correctly opens the Files folder, and will continue to operate this way (the correct way) as long as I don't close the browser. When I saved my OneDrive Files folder as a favorite in Firefox, I experienced the same problem. So the problem does not appear to be related to Edge.
How can I make OneDrive.Live.com always open in the Files Folder the first time?

Hi,
I'm having a problem with a computer that I'm using. It has Windows XP Professional.
I asked this question on the Microsoft Answers community and I didn't really get an answer, so... here goes nothing.
I had some important documents in my Documents folder on there and this one time I started up the computer only to find out that they were missing. I went to Folder Options and unchecked "Hide protected Operating System files" and I chose to show all hidden files and drives. They're still not there!
I'm sure that they have to be there on the hard drive somewhere, because there was no change in disk space when I noticed that the files had gone missing.

I really want to know if I can get to the files or how.

Please help!

in Vista, some system files and folders are marked hidden. If you want to see them you have to set them to be seen using folder properties
You can set the properties for individual files and folders, or system wide.

Generally, the system folders are marked hidden in order to protect them from untrained users accidentally deleting necessary files.

in search options you can choose to search system and or hidden files and folders.

I have all 4 PC's in the office using Windows 7 Pro. I have one computer that is designated to house my share folder for scanning documents and attaching them to our management system.  We are finding that multiple problems occur - not at once and at
different times .  Sometimes, the document within the shared folder called "IMAGEBATCH" will not delete.  Sometimes that document deletes, and then re-appears within the IMAGEBATCH folder.  Sometimes the document will not
scan through the network to the IMAGEBATCH folder.  Sometimes we get an error saying we "don't have permission to delete this file".  These circumstances occur on all computers, including the computer that houses the original file IMAGEBATCH.
Sometimes in the day, each computer that is supposedly looking at the same IMAGEBATCH folder see different files.
Restarting the computer clears the problems, but then start right back up at irregular intervals, sometimes in the morning, sometimes in the middle of the day.
I did find a duplicate file named IMAGEBATCH on the "C" drive of that PC, so I deleted that, but the symptoms are still there.  This is the only shared folder in our entire network.  What can I be missing?  I have checked to make
sure it is a share folder, all the permissions are in place, and that we all can see the folder through the network.  What am I missing?  I am the owner and administrato... Read more

1.though i deleted all the files in my temporary internet files folder the space occupied is still quite large. i cant see any files left to be deleted. i use xp sp2 and three browsers mozilla, ie and opera. when i use disk cleanup wizard i can see the files when i use the option of viewing the files. why is it so can anybody put some light into it.

2. i want to move my documents and settings folder from my c: drive to another drive which has quite some space( c: is almost full). plz help me in doing it

thanks in advance in anticipation

Answer:temp internet files not visible and moving documents and setting folder

You can navigate to your C:\Documents and Settings\*yourusernamehere*\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files folder, and if you have the address bar enabled in your folder view, type \Content.IE5 at the end so it looks like this
C:\Documents and Settings\*yourusernamehere*\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5
then hit enter
If you dont have the address bar at the top of your Explorer Windows, you can right click the top of the window and select "Address Bar" or you can go to "View"-->"Address Bar"
You may also have to go to "Tools"-->"folder Options"-->View Tab and select "Display the full path in the address bar"

In this Content.IE5 folder you can delete the folders with 8 digit gibberish names, these are the hidden cache files.
DO NOT DELETE THE INDEX.DAT file in there, I doubt it would let you but don't anyway.

The worst that would happen by deleting these folders would be that you may have log back into various websites or redownload the page resources(images, css, etc etc)
As for moving the Documents and Settings folder to another drive or partition, that's getting into a Sticky Situation, you CAN however redirect your "My Documents" folder to another location.
Right click the "My Documents" fodler on your desktop or your Start Menu and choose "Properties"
browse to a new location.
It will ask if you want to copy/move your existing files to... Read more

Hi
I've mapped some folders in my laptop (Windows 7 Professional 64-bit).
I wanted them offline so I chose make available offline. After some days I've removed 'Make available offline'.
Now, the problem is when I open a file in shared folder for modification it's taking a local copy the changes are not reflecting in server.
What I dont understand is when I removed offline, how am getting a local copy instead of the files in server.
Thanks.

I have a PC with Windows 8.1 and a Mac with Mavericks. I have a folder on the Mac that is shared with the PC. When I'm on the PC and I try to open a file that is shared by the Mac, such as an ISO file (a disk image), then I get a message saying that I cannot open the file, or the file is in use (it depends on the app/filetype). I have the same problem when I open a video file. Strangely, text files and PDF files are just fine. And if I copy any of the problematic files to the local Windows disk, then I can open them just fine.

The specific error messages are:

- AVI files opened in VLC: "Your input can't be opened. VLC is unable to open the MRL."
- ISO files opened by Windows Explorer: "Sorry, there was a problem mounting the file."

This only started happening after I upgraded to Windows 8.1 on the PC and Mavericks on the Mac. Mavericks upgraded its SMB version from SMB1 to SMB2, so perhaps that is related?
Does anyone know what the problem might be, and how I could fix it?

Thanks in advance!

Answer:W8.1: Can't open files on SMB folder shared by a Mac

Welcome to Eight Forums,

The upgrade seems to be an issue in your case. I'd suggest for you to download the latest driver from the manufacturer's site for your network adapter, see if that helps. I don't think that there's a way to revert your Maverick's SMB version.

Please post an update or your progress.

Somehow files and folders in "Shared Documents" have become inaccessible through the directory tree. The only way to open "Shared Pictures" or "Shared Music" is through the hot link availabe under "Other Places" when "My Pictures", or the like, is open in an explorer window. When I try to access the folders and files through the directory tree I run into *.idx files. This is a new condition for me. Can anyone fill me in?

Yes, your friend can add files to your shared folder, provided you have the proper permission settings for the folder set up. On your PC, go to Onedrive and navigate to the folder you have shared, and click on "share", then "invite people", then add the people you want to allow, then change "recipients can only view" to "recipients can edit". Done!

Hi,
On my home network with 4 PCs I can access all shared files with no problems except from one PC. This PC is running XP SP3 and any files in the folder when it is shared are available and can be opened no problem but any new files moved to or created in this folder are can't be accessed by any of the other computers, as in "Windows media player cannot access this file. The file might be in use, you might not have access" and so on.
Never met this before on my others systems new files and old files are all available as long as they are in a shared folder.
Thanks for any suggestions

When I go to the other computers to open the Files (jpeg) the folders are showing up along with the thumbnail of the picture - not the actual picture just a Icon. Is it a setting on the main computer that needs to be checked in order to see the JPEG files
on the other computers.

Hi all,

This is a problem that's been bothering me for days. I use an older computer (Windows XP Professional, SP2) that's relatively slow, but has a decent amount of disk space to store some of my files. While I store files on there, I prefer to access the files using my newer computer (Windows XP Home, SP2) since it's faster to extract/unzip files.

I can access all the folders & subfolders in the Shareddocs directory of my old computer perfectly, *except* ZIP/RAR files. Once I unzip the archive, my new computer can access all the files. But if I try to use my new computer to unzip the archives, it's telling me that it cannot find the file & that I don't have permissions for it.

So far, I've tried unchecking the "Simple File Sharing" box, and checking the permissions, and I have given everyone Full Control on my old computer. But I am still unable to extract/view the archives.

Any idea what might be wrong? I can just unzip everything on the old computer, but it's so horrendously slow I'd like some sort of solution to this.

Thanks in advance!

I have two computers, a desktop running Windows 7 Professional and a netbook running Windows 7 starter edition. I have shared some folders on the netbook and can access them from the desktop computer. However, I am unable to share folders on the desktop. From the netbook, I can see the desktop on my network and also the shared folders, but when I try to open them I am told I have insufficient authorization to so so. I have checked the authorizations on the desktop side and can see that "Everyone" has permission to open these folders for reading, and that the authorization extends also to subfolders and files.

I've been trying all day to resolve this problem and would appreciate any help.

When I set up these permissions, why doesn't Windows warn me that there's something else that will impede what I'm trying to do?

Answer:Insufficient authorization to see files in shared folder

You might try going into the Security tab of the Desktop's main drive or folder you want to share then add "Everyone" there as well. Security tab>Edit button>Add button>type Everyone for object name, apply, ok and so forth.

Im using one pc with windows 7 and another with XP.
When I copy a file on the pc with win7 to the shared folder, I can see and access the file fine from the XP pc.

However, when I move (Ctrl+X) a file to the shared folder on the pc with win7, the file does not apear when I go to the shared folder from the XP pc.

Anyone knows what Im doing wrong?

BY THE WAY, is there a way to share the entire C drive or we are strict to the public folders? Its wierd that I gave full access permissions to the C drive, yet an error occurs while trying to access from XP. Only the public folders can be accessed.

You still need to allow premission to access the shared files on the Win7 machine. Just set up permissions on the Win7 machine by going to "Network and sharing center" and then to the left choose "Change Advance sharing settings". The select the settings in the pictures below.

You should also have access to the entire C drive once you do that.

I've been using my XP machine as my file server and it works perfectly.

Hello all, thanks for your help.

Goal :
Sharing a Vista 64 Home Premium Folder with an XP Laptop.

Problem :
XP can view folders, but not files, in the Vista Shared Folder. Files that were in the folder when sharing was setup in Vista are accessible, but new files are not displayed. New Folders do display, however.

System Setup :
MSHOME network, Vista private network sharing of a single directory. Vista connected by cable, XP laptop by Wireless.

Already Done :
- Triple-Checked Permissions (guest, everyone, etc.)
- Normal Vista Sharing configuration in place
- Checked through specific settings for 'guest' and 'everyone' access of the folder, including 'read files..'
- Checked the net in detail..no luck

The folder I'm sharing is a P2P download folder. Sharing doesn't work properly when the program is on or off, so it doesn't seem to affect anything.

Other things I've done :
- Turned 'indexing' on
- Made sure 'read only' was not enabled under folder settings.

Thoughts?

Thanks,
acijanos

Answer:Vista Shared Folder Files not Updating

Update :

The P2P stuff isn't a factor - created a new directory and shared - same problem.

I'm wondering if it may have something to do with XP. (service pack 3)

Trying to find a solution to this issue.

2 XP Media Center SP3 PCs connected via Ethernet to router. PC A has Shared Documents folder with permissions set to allow 'Everyone' Full Control. Only Windows Firewall onboard, NOD32 virus scanner. PC B can see/open files from share on PC A, but any attempts to move or copy result in error message "your current security settings do not allow this action". Both PCs have IE6, File & Print Sharing enabled and turning off Windows Firewall doesn't change anything. What else can I try? Thanks.

Answer:Moving/copying files from shared folder causes error

Make sure you have the permissions set on both the Security tab as well as the Sharing tab.

On the shared folder security permissions, make sure that you go to the Advanced settings and check the box that tells it to replace the permissions on child objects as well.

Hi Guys,

I am migrating my user's home folders from one storage server to another storage server. We have offline files sync enabled and users use to work at work in offline mode and the files/folders sync when they connect to the company's network.
I have done some testing before migrating and found an issue that need assistance from your guys.

I pick a test user say "Testuser01" and logout him out from the system. I have copied all home drive stuff from Sharedserever-1 (Old) to Sharedserever-2 (New) for test user and make the required changes in AD profile and GPO for drive mapping. As
the Testuser01's documents pointing to H-drive (My Documents) are available offline on laptop in Documents folder. Now I have worked offline as "tesetuser01" and created some test files but when I logged in and connected
with my company's network H-drive is it correctly pointing to new Sharedserever (i.e. Sharedserever-2) and Documents path also redirected to the new server location. However the files created in offline mode were disappeared instead of sync with
the new Sharedserever.
I could not figure out why and I don't know if it something with CSC - Client-Side Caching folder ?
Any help would be appreciated.

I've been using file and printer sharing for quite a while on various home networks, but this problem has me completely stumped.

I have one folder on each of 2 Windows XP Pro machines shared. I can access some of the files in this shared folder but not others. The problem is not specific to size (some are larger, others are small) or type (some are EXE's, others are .TXT's). I simply get the "Access denied" error when trying to open, run, or copy some of the files.

I've tried deleting the folder and re-creating it, and that doesn't work. I've disabled Windows firewall on both systems. That didn't work either.

Performing a net user * /DELETE has no effect on the share that is not working properly. Also when performing a new use the share does not appear in the list.

I keep having a re-occurring issue.

I start by creating a shared folder on a Windows 2000 Server. From my Windows XP Pro laptop I'm able to access the files in the shared folder. At some point either from logging off the network or network changes that occur over night, I lose share. By losing the share I mean that I can access the folder that is shared but it does not show any files in the folder even though there are files. If I turn off the server, I get the same empty folder results. I've tried registering and flushing the DNS several times and reassigning my IP address. I'm at a loss as to why the share will not show any files. If I create a new share on the same server it will work fine until I leave for the day and return the next day. I would like to understand more about how shares are created and handled in Windows and then I might be able to figure out why this problem is occurring.

Thanks,
Mark

I have a computer running Vista Home Premium. On it, I have a folder shared read-only over the network as "downloads."

I can access the folder from other computers on the LAN, using \\computer\downloads. My problem is, sometimes the browsing computer (an XP Pro SP3 machine) will get an outdated list of the directory.

For instance, I have added many files in the past couple of weeks. Yet, for some reason, even today one of the computers would show the most recent file as being from late January. I've tried refreshing and shift-refreshing. Doesn't help.

What's weird is that this behavior seems to vary from client computer to client computer. One of my XP Pro SP3 machines will have the most-recent list of files, and the other one will still be a little bit behind, not showing the newest files.

I can't figure this out! I would think that the problem must lie on the side of the client, yet I have never had this problem previously in all my years of XP-to-XP file sharing.

Is there some sort of network cache present in XP that can be cleared? Or any other ideas on how to solve this?

Thanks!

Answer:Browsing shared folder over LAN sometimes shows outdated list of files; sometimes OK

It's not unnatural for what shows in My Network Places (XP) or Network (Vista) to be out of date, but usually not that out of date. In My Network Places click 'view workgroup computers' and you should force an update.

On any (properly working) network one computer becomes the Master Browser. It determines what's on the network and periodically updates the other computers.

Hello,

Hello My roomate has created a folder on his desktop called "music1", and the permissions are set for full access/shared etc on his computer. I can access many other shared folders on his computer with my pc no problem. I can even listen to other music files on his computer in other shared folders. For some reason or other I cannot play his music files or copy his music files when trying to access the music1 folder on his desktop. If i'm thinking correctly the root folder must be shared to allow access to subfolders, but in this case...the shared folder (music1) is the root folder that was created on his desktop. any ideas?

win xp home os's

thks.

update: also I have discovered that if I remove the read only permission>hit apply>ok then when I reopen it the "read only box is checked again"

i deselect it again, and again, and again..only for it to reappear again.

stumped.

Hi,

I have shared one folder and in security I added "everyone" and given full permission (full control, write, etc.)

But still I cannot access some pdf files in the folder from another computer. I can open the folder but when I try to open the pdf file I'm getting some permission error. Then I went to the first computer I selected all pdf files >> right click >> properties >> I changed security and added everyone there. Then I could open the pdf files from another computer.

Now the problem is every time when I add some files in the shared folder. I have to select all the files inside and add permission even though the folder itself is given full permission. I wonder why is it so?

Answer:shared folder with full permission cannot access files inside

If the same users access this folder. Add each person individually with Full Control rather then the Everyone Group to the permissions of the folder. Or You can add the users to the Power Users Group. Then allow the Power Users Group to have Full control.

Hello,
I'm encountering a problem on different computers.
Internet Explorer 11 and Edge are not able to open files from a shared folder located on the same computer.
For example, let's say I typed this "\\10.100.100.10\folder_1\DOC_FILE.doc" on the address bar.
The browser then shows : "This page can't be displayed".
When I display more information, the error "INET_E_RESOURCE_NOT_FOUND" appears.
I have already tried to uncheck "Enable TCP Fast open" and it is still not working.
It seems like this problem cannot be reproduced on all IE11/EDGE browsers, and can be encountered on both Windows 7 and Windows 10.
Any ideas ?
Best regards

Hey guys,

I'm currently running an Ubuntuserver where an external HDD is mounted in the network.
I can see the HDD fine on my Windows 7 computer but not on my fathers laptop running Vista.
Is there anything I need to change in the settings on the laptop in order to see the HDD?
The Vista laptop is in the same network (IP-Range and WORKGROUP) as the Win7 computer

I wasn't sure whether to put this in the XP subforum or the Vista/7 one, as it relates to both. Hope I made the right choice. :-)

My problem is this: I have a Windows 7 Ultimate desktop (recently upgraded from Vista Home Premium) with a C:\downloads\ folder that is shared over the network as "downloads."

On a second computer, an XP computer, one I set up the correct sharing permissions (that is, to give access to Computer 2's username), I can then browse to \\desktop\downloads\.

The problem is this: The file list show in \\desktop\downloads\ is outdated, and many files and folders are missing. There is nothing special about these files or folders. They're not hidden or anything.

For instance, opening up C:\downloads\ on my desktop shows a folder with 3,118 items -- files and folders.

Accessing \\desktop\downloads\ from another computer shows 111 items.

Interestingly, accessing \\desktop\downloads\ from the desktop shows the correct amount: 3,118 items.

I have tried refreshing the file list, obviously, from the second computer. I have also tried accessing \\desktop\downloads\ from a third computer (also XP) on the same network, with similar problems... leading me to believe the problem is on the Windows 7 computer.

The W7 desktop has no problem accessing other shares.

I should also add that all three of these computers are on the same workgroup and can ping each other.

Also, as a test, I created a brand-new folder, C:\downloads2\,... Read more

Try disabling UAC, i had my own issue with network files with Win7 and after i disabled UAC everything worked perfectly.

Also, try making a share that isn't in the root of the drive Or put it in the public folder and see if that works correctly.

When I try to rename a folder on the D: partition that used to be a Windows XP recovery partition that has some Pokemon commissions in it, I get this message.
"This folder is shared with other people
If you rename this folder, it will no longer be shared."

But the folder is not shared nor has it ever been.

What is going on? Why does Windows 7 think that it is shared?

Answer:“This folder is shared with other people” when renaming not shared folder

Hello there,

This happens because of the way the Access Control List is queried by Windows Explorer to determine if the folder is shared. Because this folder you tried to rename is a child folder of a parent folder and the two folders have a different security entries, Windows will treat as a shared folder. This causes Explorer to give you the warning that you received.

Just double check, this must be a shared folder.

Hope this helps!

Answer:Shared Folders not visible

the system names get passed via port 137
the actual shares are passed on ports 139,445

make sure the system that has the data shared, does so without using a
sharename that ends in $, eg invisibleShare$

what version of the server are you using?

I have a Windows NT4/SP5 server with 7 shared printers setup for use with Intel NetPort print servers. One of the printers is not visible across the network (TCP/IP) on either Win NT or 95 machines.

The other 6 printers a fine and can be seen in Network Neighborhood etc.

I've checked the permissions on the share & have even set it so "Everyone" should be able to see it, removed the printer & reinstalled & done the usual reboots, but no luck.

Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Hi, I am running Windows 10 and trying to set up a network so that I can transfer photos from an android phone onto my laptop hard drive for back up. I've been using an app to do this and it has worked in the past brilliantly (called "Sweet Home" if interested). Unfortunately since upgrading to Windows 10 and changing my phone it doesn't work. I have also been trying to test the network using ES File Explorer. I have tried setting this up on another laptop running Windows 8 and it works no problem, so the issue must be with my settings.

I have set up a home group, made sure everything is shared where it should be and permissions set so that the network should be visible to everyone, but the android device can't see the network at all. For reference when setting up the network I followed the step by step in the link below on the Windows 8 laptop and it worked.
http://www.theandroidsoul.com/connec...windows-65379/

One strange point that I think might be related on the Windows 10 laptop, is when I get to Step 2 (of the link above) under "How to enable sharing on Windows?" the "Share" button is greyed out, even when the folder is not shared. I have to share it by clicking the "Advanced Sharing" button instead.

Any help would be appreciated as this is driving me insane!

Hello,
When I transfer an album/mixtape(has songs in it up to 10+) or more into the music folder it creates a random album folder with only half or less than half of the songs.
Also, it sometimes doesn't load the picture for the folder but sometimes it does.
My main issue is I cant transfer a single mixtape or album into the music folder without a song in that mixtape/album being missing.

Hello,

I am having an issue with inbox subfolders on a shared outlook 365 mailbox that has no delegated access. When one user creates or moves a subfolder other users are not able to immediately see these changes. Sometimes it can take over a day for the changes to appear on another user?s computer. Restarting the computer or outlook has no effect on this.

Does anybody have a clue as to why this is happening? Let me know if you need additional info from me. Thanks for all your help!

Answer:Shared inbox sub folders not visible when moved

"outlook 365" is a cloud based email system and it takes time for all users to sync their desktop to the server.
Sync is not instantaneous as it is a scheduled event.

I have 2 workstations running XP2 SP2 Home Edition. Until recently each machine had full access to the other using the windows "share" facility and could happily view each others files etc.

I then had a problem downloading security updates from the MS site ( non-security updates were fine, just security updates)on one of the machines and, after much chasing around, contacted MS support who took me through a number of different procedures until, after running one of their HotFix routines, I could again download and run the updates. However, since then the files and folders on the machine in question have been inaccessible across the network. Looking back the other way, is fine.

I can ping the machine ok but when I try to access it through Network Places I get an error message saying that I do not have the required access and "the user has not been granted the requested logon type".

Both machines have full Admin rights and I never had logon problems before.

I was told by MS that my problem with the updates was because I didn't have the correct permissions but I now seem to have locked out this other machine and cannot find any way to get connected from A to B even though B to A works fine.

I've copied the IP config for the errant machine below and would appreciate any advice.

I have a homegroup with several Windows 7 and Windows 8 computers. One of them is Windows 7 PC with external My Book that contains several folders I need to share with other computers. I have been able to successfully share two of the folders but no matter what I do I can't get the other two folders to be even visible to other computers. Any suggestions?

Have you tried adding the folders of the drive to a shared Library? There isn't a limit of two folders.

I have a Visual Basic 6 app that reads files from a shared network folder and then processes them.  It was installed on two Windows XP computers many years ago.  Now we want to upgrade it to Windows 7.  I have two different computers with
Windows 7.  When I connect the Windows 7 computers to the network and run the app (which has a File Watcher window) and am watching all 4 computers, I noticed that the File Watcher window of the XP boxes show the files about 2 seconds before the Windows
7 boxes see the files.  What would cause this?  Everything else in the app works as it should.
The apps are running as Administrator on the Windows 7 boxes and XP compatiblility mode.  I have tried it both ways.
Confused...

I have my Public Desktop folder set to share for everyone, so it can be accessed from other pc's on the home network. But when I move a file from my user desktop to the public desktop it suddenly adds the lock icon over it and can't be accessed from another pc, even though the public desktop still can. I have to change the permissions on the file every time, although this never used to be the case. I used to be able to move a file to the public desktop without having to manually "share" it each time.

All settings look correct: Sharing is enabled for the folder and set for full control "everyone", and public folder sharing is turned on.

Again, this just started and was working fine before. Would one of the recent security patches have changed something?

Answer:Files moved to shared public folder "locked"

I'm not sure how this could occur but in order for the Public folders to be shared you need to enable sharing through the Sharing tab of the main Public folder, otherwise anything placed in one of it's subfolders won't be sharable.

If the share is being moved from a folder with a lock then moving that folder to a Public folder won't remove the lock.

The main Public folder is located at the C:\Users\Public and should appear like the picture.

Hey everyone.

I use both Linux (Ubuntu 10.04, 2.6.33-AMD64) and Windows 7 professional, and sometimes I get a little boggled at the apparent lack of functionality in W7 in the following situation.

I have a network share in the root of my drive that I've called "DropBox" where my boss and I can both put files to be shared via the network. I have a bunch of files in "Downloads" directory that I'd like to be able to share at various times, but would rather not have my downloads directory directly shared as it violates my sense of order. IE, I would much rather have one shared folder from which you can reach all the other content I need to share on the drive, and if I need to un-share something, simply delete the shortcut, and Voila! instant anti-sharing.

Figure 1. Clean Sharing

In Ubuntu, you can create a symlink within a shared folder that points to a non shared folder which allows network users to access that non-shared folder.

Does this functionality exist in W7?

Thanks,
NYTCG

Answer:Shared Shortcut to non-shared folder.

Okay, so I solved this issue on my own =) TGFG! The answer lies in the MKLink command.

Specifically: mklink /D /J Downloads "C:\Users\Robert\Downloads\"

Works like a charm. All networked machines have access to my non-shared directory through the shared folder, and it looks nice and clean on the viewers end.

Thanks for letting me rubber duck this one.

And no amount of free-to-use scanning I have done thus far detected a virus.

Whatever virus this is, it seems to effect the amount of memory I can use slowing down my computer and causing me crashes in Team Fortress 2.

It also disabled my sound driver.

It has yet to do anything more than annoy me from what I can tell, and it may yet be a hacker.

go to here and download 'Hijack This!' self installer. Save it to the desktop or other suitable place. DO NOT just press run from the website Double click on the file and it will install to C:\program files\hijackthis and create an entry in the start menu and an optional shortcut on desktop.
Click on the entry in start menu or on the desktop to run HijackThis
Click the "Scan" button, when the scan is finished the scan button will become "Save Log" click that and save the log.
Go to where you saved the log and click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" then Paste the log back here in a reply.
It will possibly show issues deserving our attention, but most of what it lists will be harmless or even required,
so do NOT fix anything yet.

First off, I really dislike windows media player for music applications. I have always used Winamp. However, to use my mp3 function, excuse me, wma function on my phone, I need to use the sync function in wmp. When doing this, it uses the information in the ID3 tag to place the song into the "appropriate" folder. I do not want this, I want the album to be the containing folder and the song name to be whatever the file name is of that song. In other words, I want the ID3 tag influence to be completely removed. Is there a way to do this? Thank you.

I can't seem to remove the album art associated with my MP3 folder thumbnail on Windows explorer.

What I've tried:
1. Right click on the folder > Properties > Customize > Folder pictures > Restore Default (Thumbnail still shows the album art)
2. Tools > Folder Options > View > Show hidden files and folders (No hidden image files)
3. Conducted a *.gif, *.jpg, *.jpeg search on my whole system (Didn't see the particular image)
4. Transferred all MP3s of the artist to another drive, refreshed (Still there)

I came across deleting individual jpegs of album art before, I just can't remember where. I think it was in WMP or something. Is there some hidden folder I should check?

Thanks in advance guys.

Answer:Album art and folder thumbnails

Tools > Folder Options > View

Uncheck "Hide Protected Operating System Files." The album art and other crap will be in the folder where your music is stored. Just be sure to recheck the "Hide Protecte..." box once you are finished so you don't accidentally delete something important.

I can't seem to predict when XP Pro SP2 will let me move a folder from SharedDocs\My Videos
to C:\ and when it won't! I don't get it. If I'm Owner don't I own it already?

Sometimes I can just grab the folder that I copied from another machine and placed in My Videos and just
drag it with the Left Mouse Button into another folder on C:\ and it just moves it by changing the directory entries. Then sometimes when I do that, it copies all the files!! Well with video files that's pretty slow!!

Anyone have a clue? Seems to be no rhyme or reason to it.

Answer:Move Folder Out Of Shared Folder Same Drive Wants To Copy?

Hello MilesAhead,I'm not absolutely sure, but some of the phrases in your problem description seem to indicate that this might be a variation of the "XP + mouse movement + mouse buttons + keyboard keystrokes" behavior described in the following post. The post deals with the unexpected copying of files when trying to delete them, but I thought the same (or a similar) principle might apply with respect to moving files/folders. Hey, I was using my computer, when I noticed that a photo album that I had on My Pictures folder suddenly changed it's location to a Microsoft OS folder. It also changed the icon on the folder to an other kind of icon. I also discovered that inside that folder where other types of pictures that I had never seen before, maybe Temporary Files, not sure. Was wondering if you had any answer for this. Thank you very much.

Answer:Why did a photo album moved to an OS folder?

Hello myxomatosick, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Could you post back with some screenshots showing this to help better clarify? I'm not sure if this in a library or one of your C:\User\(user-name) folders, and a few other things the screenshots will help with.

When ripping mp3 or wma files from a CD, Windows Media Player automatically searches online for the album cover art and creates a folder for your music files with the album cover art on it. But what I cant figure out is where does this image file go? I ask because sometimes WMP can't find the album cover. In such case, I can usually find it somewhere else (such as an online cd store), but I don't know where to copy it to so that it shows up like in the rest of my folders. I thought it might be a hidden file within the folder, but that doesn't appear to be the case. Can anyone help?

I have just come across to win7 from XP. How do you add art work to the front of a folder, there does not seem to be an option for this.
If I right click on the folder and go to properties I cant see where there is an option to add the pic.
Thanks

Hi,

I am looking for something simular to PhotoBucket.com. Has to support TNG files. Able to set read and read/write passwords. Prefered if it can also support non-image files such as RAR, AVI, etc. And obviously, has to be free!

Need lots of suggestions, I am picky. Thanks in advance.

Hi, I'm trying to open My Pictures on my wife's laptop but I get this error message Your folder can't be shared. This also happens to other folders on the laptop. I've tried to change Security Settings but it usually leads me to an endless layer of pop ups which finally ends with me being unable to change the setting. This is my wife's private home laptop and you can just imagine how important it is to be able to view pictures and videos of our grandchildren. I just need to relax the high security settings and make this work. Any help at all would be so appreciated.

Thank you,
Gerald

I recently made a folder to share with an XP machine. When I look at the network through my seven machine I see the folder I shared and the USERS folder shared as well. Why is that?

I have the network setup at a home network. 7100 32 bit.

Answer:Why is the User folder shared when you share a folder?

I believe vista did this as well. So Windows 7 doesnt' work any differently from Vista in this regards.

Hi guys,
I have a shared folder which contains many folders for many users on
my network and to make users folders recognisable we chose to fix a
folder picture of every folder with the picture of the folder owner.
The problem is that those folders never have a constant folder picture
on all of my network computers as the picture always changes for some
reason, I've tried to set permissions on thumb.db file and also tried
fiddling with desktop.ini file but no use. Any ideas would be much
appreciated. Thanks.

Hey guys, in Itunes the get ablum artwork works great, but is there anyway to get it to place the album artwork into the folder automatically so you have a hard copy and not just in Itunes?

Thanks

Answer:Get Album Artwork in Itunes...Possible to save to actual folder?

Yes, but it's time consuming (unless there is a program out there that does it automatically).

There is no folder you can just copy and save, BUT if you go into a song, open the properties, copy the art image and then paste it in an image editing program, it will show as the full res version. I did this with my music collection a few months back.

I'm sure there's a simpler way, but I don't know of one offhand.

Hi,
I have about 30 albums in my iTunes music folder and am trying to import an Elvis album that contains 5 CDs and have already imported disc's 1 & 2 ok. When I try and import disc 3 it adds all the songs onto the end of cd 2 and does not show the album or artwork for cd 3 with the other albums .
Any idea's would be welcome

Answer:Unable to import album in to iTunes Music Folder

This has happened to me and I have never managed to discover why so I did this.
Create a new play-list then just drag the contents from your PC to the new play-list.

This was working fine earlier but for someone reason my file names don't show up under them. But when I hover over them they show up. Does anyone know what I can do to fix this?

Answer:Where are my folder names not visible?

I'm not exactly sure why you can't see the file names under them anymore. But if it's only on the desktop just change the background.

I am running into an issue with users renaming files on a shared drive. When the users try to rename, they get the error "A file name can't contain any of the following characters: \ / : * ? < > |". However, neither the new or old filename contains
any of these characters, or any other invalid characters as far as I can determine, just alphanumeric characters and spaces. When they try to rename it again, it works without an issue.
I have found reports of this error being generated if the file path is too long, but all users are accessing this from a shared drive, and even if the share name is taken into account the file path and name are easily under 100 characters.
I have 3 users on 3 different systems reporting this issue, so I don't think it is user error.
The workstations are running Windows 7 Pro, SP1. The server is Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise, Service Pack 2.
The users are located at a remote site, and accessing the share over a site to site VPN. There are XP workstations at the site as well, that do not appear to be having the issue.
Any help, suggestions, or guidance is greatly appreciated!

We are a small company.  We are running six windows 8 computers.  Our secretary works from home, the rest of us are in the same office.

The Admin Computer stores all of our work files within a folder called 'casework' (about 400GB).   The 'casework' folder is shared on the office network.  This 'casework' folder is also synced by Google Drive.

When our secretary works on her home computer and makes a new file, e.g. letterV2, the new file downloads to our 'casework' folder to the Admin Computer here at the office.  However, the new file cannot been seen on our other computers over the office
network.

The newly created files are not shared to 'everyone' unless I un-share 'casework' from the network and then share 'casework' again.

The problem seems to be that the new files added by Google Drive are not inheriting the permissions of the 'casework' folder.

There are no options to change in Google Drive.  Is this a Windows8 problem? Will Windows10 have a fix for this? Are there any work arounds? Does our secretary need to work at the office?

Yours Hopefully

Matt

Answer:New files downloaded from cloud storage into shared folders don't inherit shared permissions for "Everyone"

may I know how that work case folder sync with google drive?

I suggest you contact Google drive first, we have limitation information regarding this product.

You can proof that there is no issue for sharing folder within your office network
I think that's not how online share drive work, unless your secretary can join your office network trough internet
http://www.howtogeek.com/196435/how-to-share-files-and-folders-from-your-cloud-storage-folder/
this is the example, you can ask your secretary to send file trough share drive and assign 1 admin to sync and send it to your case work folder

Screenshot of my situation: http://i31.tinypic.com/e8txr7.png

I am aware that most or all of these song files do actually contain information on them, since I had them in an old computer, and everything was just fine. On this machine all the columns show blank.

I got tons of song files from various sources and none of them show any information under folder explorer. When I add them to the Winamp playlist the tags show normally, however by hitting Properties > Summary on any file I don't see any information there as well.

Thank you for your time, in advance.

I am trying to delete a folder in Corel Photo Album 6. It starts to go through the deleting process but then stops and I get a message "cannot delete file. It's being used by another person or program. Close any programs that might be using the file and try again."

The same thing happens when I try to rename a folder. "Cannot rename folder. It is being used by another person or program - - - etc."

I have tried closing all programs, but still can't delete or rename.

Any suggestions, in detail, would be appreciated, as I'm technologically challenged. Thanks.

Answer:Solved: Cannot delete file folder in Corel Photo Album 6

From the URL
http://www.filehippo.com/download_unlocker/

download the unlocker application (download button is on the right side top) and install it.

Then when you delete any folder and if you get any error unlocker will open a window showing the list of process using the folder.

On the bottom of the window click 'unlock all' and then try to delete the folder.

Hello,
When I transfer an album/mixtape(has songs in it up to 10+) or more into the music folder it creates a random album folder with only half or less than half of the songs.
Also, it sometimes doesn't load the picture for the folder but sometimes it does.
My main issue is I cant transfer a single mixtape or album into the music folder without a song in that mixtape/album being missing

Answer:How do I transfer an album/mixtape into the music folder on my Nokia Lumia 830?

How are you transferring the songs, do you do it by usb and directly dragging and stopping the files you want or do you do it via a specific program?

I have a home network with two Windows 7 machines on it (one is Ultimate 64bit, the other Pro 64 bit). Also on the network are two Windows XP machines (Pro and Home), a Vista machine, and for good measure an Ubuntu 10.04 machine and an SME server (which we can ignore for the moment).

When I installed Windows 7 on the two pc's, the first account I created was for me, username jim. Afterwards, on the Ultimate box I created an administrator account for my wife, and standard user accounts for my kids. I didn't create any other accounts on the Pro box at all.

I have noticed that on both machines, I can access the c:\users\jim folder from any other machine on the network. I can view, read, edit, and create files. For example, if I log on to my WinXP Pro box as user jimmcl (who doesn't exist on either of the Windows 7 machines) I can go to the Documents folder of the jim account on the Ultimate box, create a Word document, edit and save it.
However, I cannot even see the folders for my wife or kids (which is the way it should be). From what I can see, the sharing and security settings on the folders are exactly the same.

My Advanced Sharing Settings are as follows:

Turn on network discovery
Turn on file and printer sharing
Turn on sharing so anyone with network access can read and write files in the Public Folders
Turn on password protected sharing
Allow Windows to manage homegroup connections

There are no homegroups set up.

Now, I'll be honest and say that I've been fiddling... Read more

Answer:Original user folder visible to all

Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

I'm no expert on networking, but I'd guess your problems stem from the fact you're using Homegroup to set up your computers.

Trouble is, only Windows 7 computers will network properly using the Homegroup i.e. Vista and XP are incompatible with Windows 7's Homegroup so I'd be inclined to create a network using Workgroup instead.

I have Windows 7 as well as XP and Vista on this machine. In Windows 7 I can't "see" the Application Data folder in my XP profile on another partition. I've done all the usual stuff like folder options of view all files, hidden and system. I need to see it so I can tell Firefox in Win 7 to use the same profile that's on my XP installation. Is it a permissions thing?

Can I have an alternative to windows explorer which is light and also shows all the folders. The hidden folders are:
C:\Documents and Settings\NetworkService
C:\Recycler

Answer:Some folder not visible in windows explorer.

If you have had any infections, even minor ones, then this program will help open the files that can be hidden by some infections -UNHIDEPublisher: BleepingComputerPlatform: Windows | Category: Security Utilities Unhide is a program that reverts back the changes made to your files and Windows Registry by the rogue.FakeHDD family of rogue anti-spyware program. In reality, though, these programs are computer infections that deliberately hide your files and change certain settings in the Windows Registry to make it appear that you have lost data on your hard drive. It will then prompt you to purchase the program to restore the data.

Hello,

I just started my computer up and opened up a folder and noticed all the items (except the folders in the folder) were missing...no one has access to my computer and I didn't delete them. The items were mostly .jpg's, videos and word documents.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Edit: there doesn't seem to be anything missing from the other folders.

Answer:Items from folder missing or not visible

I was at a clients place he was complaining that his files where deleteing in front of his eyes and he said he never touched anything. I still have not found out why it was doing this. I tried different keyboards same thing unplugged keyboard same thing. I think I created a new folder and kept back up copies in a usb drive try different things you can try open the folder that you are missing stuff in. click on tools/options/click on the second tab on the left scroll down and click on the radio button that says show hidden files.
