Preferred Solution: toshiba m200 laptop wont load past toshiba screen.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: toshiba m200 laptop wont load past toshiba screen.

Will it start in safe mode.Just keep tapping F8 as the computer starts. If so maybe a system restore or a last good configuration.

i have an acer laptop which im currently using but a friend gave me his old laptop whichs has better specs (although still not great) that had no hdd its a toshiba equium a60 i took the hdd from the acer and put it into the toshiba but it wont load past the black toshiba screen occasionally it gets to the boot screen (safe mode, last known config etc) but all of these options go bk to toshiba screen sorry for the poor explanations would be very gratefull for any ideas :)may i add that the hdd does work wen i put it bk into my acer cheers ;)

Answer:laptop wont load past toshiba screen

The windows configuration with the drivers for the acer motherboard etc will not be liked when you put it in the toshiba and so windows pukes on it. You can try a "repair of the operating system" which will usually work', but it depends how familiar you are with a computer.

I purchased a Toshiba A205-5804 on 3/2008 to use for school. It is running on MS Vista OS. A few months ago my DVD/CD R/W stopped working, which I wasn't too worried about because I already had all the software loaded onto my computer that I needed to use for my classes. Yesterday I was working on my computer when it froze...I tried the CTRL+ALT+Del but it didn't do anything so I did a manuel shut down (which I've done in the past with no problems). When I restarted my computer the toshiba screen came up and the computer proceeded as normal in the loading process until it got to the black screen with the white arrow that normally appears for a few seconds before the Vista screen appears. When the black screen came up the HD light stopped blinking and nothing else happened. I also tried booting in safemode but ended up with the same results. I tried running the recovery discs however that won't work because my disc drive isn't working. Please help...I'm taking online courses and can't afford a new computer.

Answer:Toshiba satellite P300 (-1CD) won't boot past toshiba splash screen.

Hello,

Perform the following steps:
-Remove the battery and Power adapter
-Press and hold the power button for 30-45 seconds (with battery and power still removed)
-Insert just the battery and attempt to boot the laptop.
-Insert just the power adapter and attempt to boot the laptop.

If still unsuccessful: Remember to remove battery and power before removing/installing components

-Remove the power and battery
-Remove the hard drive from the laptop and attempt to boot with the battery installed. Do you receive any error message?
-Remove the memory modules from the laptop
-Insert just the battery and attempt to start the laptop (you should receive beep error)
-Try inserting just one module of memory and test (swapping modules after each attempt)
-Remove the optical drive and test.
-Try disconnecting the CMOS battery for a few minutes then re-connect and try.

startup screen password for toshiba S300CDT. the laptop starts up with the toshiba logo but then goes onto a black screen asking for a password, of which i do not have as the laptop is very old and given to me. please can someone help with this?, as although old it can still be used. thanks.

See if the guy/gal you got it off remembers....it is the bios password and we do not assist with removing security settings. Not suggesting any ill will, but a lot of times folks who have stolen business laptops want our assistance to break into the laptop, and for those reasons we do not help with passwords. sorry.

I dont know if this is the right section or not

Well my brother has this toshiba satellite a105 laptop and it was working fine.
Now I dont know exactly what happened, but my dad (who isnt to computer smart) said that he was reading news and the laptop just shut off and the windows start up logo came up, than the laptop restarted again and it keeps doing so every time the windows start up logo (the blue loading bar) finishes

There is a quick, almost instant blue screen with writing that pops up and I was able to read 'STOP' but nothing further, than the laptop just restarts again

I also cannot enter safe mode either, and when i put in the recovery cd, I get a messege saying WRONG MACHINE, but its the right cd for it

Any ideas what could be happening, and how i can get into windows again

Thanks in advance

Answer:Toshiba Laptop Wont Load Windows Xp

From what I see...that CD is a recovery CD and it will only work for the system it was created for.

If you get that WRONG MACHINE message, you are not using the right recovery CD...from what I read.

I think it would be better if you could borrow or get someone to burn you a copy of a real MS XP CD and use that in conjunction with the Toshiba license, if the situation calls for such.

The first 11 or so digits after STOP on that error message...are clues to whatever is recognized as wrong. If you can take a look, write them down correctly, and post them here...it would help.

Toshiba Satellite Pro L20
Windows XP Home Edition SP 3 (probably 2 now after trying to fix things)
CA Security Centre
Attempted fixes: system restore, last known good configuration, safe mode (and variants) booting from installation cd, repair, recovery console.

Recently, my toshiba satellite pro l20 running windows xp home edition has stopped booting up. I had tried various methods of getting it to work, but nothing did. Currently, if booting normally, with no disk, it will go to the resuming setup (or something like it) screen and then finish on windows safe mode, but just a black screen, with an error message flashing very quickly, and then the computer reboots. If i start it with the windows disk, I can get to the recovery console, but as soon as i enter 1 (which os to choose) it comes up with an irql stop error. If i try going into installation, the irql error happens when i press f8 to agree to the license agreement. Booting into safe mode etc does not work, as it does the same as normal. Any help in this urgent matter is much appreciated.

That was before, but now, on the default setting without doing anything, after the display with press f2 for setup, f12 for bootup options, it is just a black screen with no rebooting.

Also, the laptop is not under warranty any more

Hello all,
I have a slight problem here I have a Toshiba Protege M200 tablet that I took out of storage the other day and when I went to boot up the lcd screen is not working. All I get is a black screen with multiple vertical colored lines across the screen. I do get video on a seperate monitor when I plug that in the back port. I thought it might be drivers or the BIOS and I updated both but still no luck. Here are the specs:

Toshiba Protege M200
1.50Ghz
768MB
NVIDIA GeForce FX Go5200 32M/64M
XP service pack 1

Thanks to anyone that can help me out with this problem. I really appreciate the help, and if there is anything else that you guys need as far as information let me know cause I probably left out some important obvious features.

Peace,
Joe

My partner has a Toshiba Satellite L450D-13X laptop and it has been working fine however when she went to turn it on yesterday it turns on and goes to a 'windows error recovery screen' with the options to 'launch startup recovery' or 'start windows normally'. I have selected both and when you select start normally it goes back to the error screen and when you select the recovery it looks like it is doing something but then just goes to a black screen with an arrow in the middle of the screen. My partner has everything backed up so it can be wiped and we can reload data at a later date but was just wondering if anyone can help either way?

Hi, im a realtive novice when it comes to conputers, i usually just use my laptop to run a few client games and some steam applications, nothing heavy. After attempting to alt tab out of a full screen application, my laptop seemingly crashed. After rebooting the laptop the led power indicator turned on, the fan was audibly running, but the screen displayed nothing. I tried connecting it to a separate monitor like my friend told me through an hdmi cable but that did not work, as the monitor read no signal. I pressed Fn and F5 afterwards and that turned on the screen on both the laptop and the seperate monitor, and it worked fine, but when i logged on to windows (10, not updated in maybe a month and a half) the screen went white. I could alt tab and my previous windows i had open showed up, but when scrolling though it would not shift to any of the windows. From there i force shutdown my laptop and now its back at square one. Any help?

My mom was on her Toshiba laptop this morning playing a game when "all of a sudden it went to a blue screen then went black." Her words, I was not there. Now it wont start. It will turn on but it wont boot up at all. All I get is a black screen. I have tried turning it on plugged in with the battery out thinking maybe just the screen went out or something. Hi I really hope someone can help me!

I have a fujitsu lifebook with windows 7 on it
I had an error message pop up when i tried to click on google chrome this morning, so I closed it and attempted to re-start my laptop, then AVG pops up telling me I have a virus so I allowed it to "clear" said virus. I then restarted my laptop and it would not go to the login page.

I attempted system repair to no avail, I then allowed chkdsk to run and there were a lot of "security ID repairs", I have also tried f12 and booting from my windows 7 installation disk. Non of these options have worked

I get the fujitsu screen, then the windows loading screen then instead of the log in screen which would be next, I get a black screen with the cursor visable and you can move the cursor but nothing else works and no keyboard shortcuts work

someone please help.
I've been told to restore the OS but i cannot afford to lose all the files on my laptop

Answer:Laptop wont load past windows page, stuck with black screen and cursor

Since AVG 'cleaned' a virus - all bets r off as the problem could be a leftover from the virus. apparently, a (some) system files r damaged. Going forward, u might not want to run normally as an admin user. That helps keep malware from invisibly installing if the AV does not catch it. 1. have u tried booting to safe mode? If u can get there try this clk Start - type CMD -- rt clk cmd.exe and select Run as Admin when the dos window opens type 'sfc /scannow' let it run retry boot when done. 2. If u can't get there or that doesn't work put ur windows CD in and boot to that. Run the repair install - or it might be called upgrade. Just do NOT do a CLEAN install. That will not erase any of your data. 3. If that does not work If u get a Hiren's boot disk, or something similar. U can boot to that and most likely copy ur data from the drive prior to doing a clean install. This assumes the drive isn't corrupt which appears to be true since it gets to the Windows screen. 4. If not u will have to remove the drive and connect it to another computer as an external HDD to copy the data. 5. If none of the above works - u have come to the complete understanding of the word BACKUP................ good luck

I have a 3 yr old Toshiba Satellite M35X laptop. I am running XP. It has a Celeron processor and a 40GB HD. 512RAM. Today I was surfing the web and left for a half hour coffee break. When I returned I was confronted with a black screen and the following: "Intel UNDI, PXE-2.0 blah balh. Then: "For Realtek RTL8139(X)/8130/810XPCIFast Ethernet Controller N2.13 (020326)PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cablePXE-M0F: exiting PX ROMInvalid partition table"I couldn't do anything. I turned off the computer with the power button, waited five minutes, turned the computer back on and got:The Toshiba screen, which led to a black screen with a cursor in the extreme upper left hand corner. Then this message appeared: "A disk read error occurred. Press ctrl+alt+del to restart" which I did. This resulted in the Toshiba log on screen and followed by the Realtek screen again, but this time it repeated itself for ever. What is causing this, and can it be easily remedied, or do I have a defective hard drive? (!)Thank you, in advance, for your prompt responses, good or dire!

Answer:Can't boot past Toshiba screen. Is HD gone?

Well, invalid partition table means that it's not able to read the partition information.... could be a corrupted hard drive.  Have you had any issues lately with the laptop?  Has it been slowing down considerably, causing issues when copying data, etc?  Also, have you had issues with it rebooting, or have you been holding down the power button to shut it off?

Folks are out of town and Mom sent email with "greetings" in the subject line. This is an expected thing when Mom and Dad go on a trip...pics and an update...cool! NOT!!! I guess Mom's email was hacked
When I was done with email and a quick FB check, I did a malware scan, defrag and a Windows security udate followed by a restart. The problem began upon restart.
I have tried to boot in safe mode AND every other option that is there on that page (command prompt, etc.) without success. I end up at the flashing screen- obviously part of the boot process, but it never gets any further :cry

This is a Toshiba Techra, 32 bit, Windows XP Pro. I tried using a boot disk in the cd-rom, but it is non functional (or whatever has attacked lap top has attacked the cd-rom also).

Any of these could just as easily be the cause of your problem. It does not have to be a malware issue.

If your CD drive does not work and you cannot boot Windows, you are in trouble. I will be moving this to the Software Forum to work because at this point there is no proof of malware and you need help getting your PC to boot up. Perhaps some one can walk you thru creating a special USB flash drive boot disk. The problem is in what to do with it. Run a malware scan??? Not sure this is your problem. Maybe one of the below could be used in USB form:

you can create a boot disk for linux or win 7, then run the repair..try win 7 first.i doubt its a power setting error though, if its shutting down and only booting too a black screen its sounds like a bootsector issue, use win 7 boot usb and runa repair, then try linux.i hate computers!but cant help myself....

I was installing Windows 7 on my laptop when it asked to reboot. I did, but now it is stuck in the BIOS. I have previously set the BIOS to verbose boot, so I cam see the info it gives. It says 2040MB RAM OK (2GB RAM installed) and it detects the HDD and the optical drive. I can press F2 or F12 to try and get it to move forwards but it just says "Loading..." and doesn't do anything. The CPU isn't overheating, as it feels colder than normal use.
Pic below is the BIOS as it last looked, trying to enter setup. It had been like that for around 10 mins with no change.
Any ideas how to fix it?

Hey all. I am fairly well with computers, but this one has me stumped.

My toshiba satellite l455 laptop running windows 7 home premium 64 bit turns on (i can see all the lights blinking) but nothing appears on the screen. It is just black.

Here is what happened.

The left clicker on the trackpad broke off and slid under the computer (where the motherboard is etc...).This happened while windows was running. Then the screen went bezerk and random colors started flashing across the screen. So i turned it off, put the left mouse part back in place, but now when i turn it on i just see the blinking lights that indicate wifi, the computer is charging etc.... but the screen does not load. Just a plain black screen.

And what really sucks is 2 weeks ago i just purchased a new hard drive because the old one was broken. It was like 60 bucks.

The computer has good hardware (250 gb hdd, 4 gb ram etc...) and i dont want it all to go to waste. The computer is also fairly new.

Does anyone know what i can do to fix this???

When I start my laptop, it stops on he Toshiba leading innovation screen and only provides the option to do one of two things. This is what it says at the bottome of the page *"Press F2 to enter Setup, F12 to enter Multiboot Selection Menu"* I have tried both. I pressed F2, I've press F12 and neither one gets me pst the screen

- When I press either after the Toshiba screen is visible, they do nothing
- If I press the F2 during boot up, the instruction at the bottom of the page says "Please Wait". However, I waited for hours and nothing ever happened. The "please wait" message just sat there.
- If I press the F12 during boot up, the instruction at the bottom of the page says "Press F2 SETUP, Entering boot device selection menu....." Then it just sits there and does nothing
The Toshiba Leading Innovation screen remains the whole time.

Can some one please tell me why I can't get past this screen and how to fix the problem?
Thank you

Answer:Satellite A - Can't get past Toshiba Leading Innovation screen

I imagine that you have to reset the BIOS back to factory settings. That involves messing with CMOS.

In YouTube you can find vid tutorial that shows how to bypass the BIOS password. Nevertheless, it really is just a tutorial on how to restore BIOS back to factory settings.

Tell me how it goes, and good luck!
You won't lose your HDD files or settings.

To answer why it happened, I would not be able to know until you describe what you have done with the computer so far that might give me a clue!

Some folks told me it's the VGA others the Hard Disk. What do u think?

Answer:Tecra M2: Vertical lines appeared and can't get past the Toshiba screen

Hi

For me it looks definitely like the graphic card malfunction!
This is really bad because mostly the whole motherboard must be replaced! :(
But to be 100% sure the diagnostic test is needed.

I think you should contact the ASP in your country. Explain the guys the situation and ask for details.

Maybe your warranty is valid?? In such case all replacements would be done fro free!
Usually the warranty should be valid for 24 month if you have registered this notebook on the Toshiba page.

I have tried removeing the battery and draining flea power - this does not resolve the issue.

When I restart the laptop, I get the situation as per line 1 above. No amount of tapping F8 does anything..I`m always back to the Toshiba leading Innovation page.

The fan is working but the HDD led never flickers.

Why? What is wrong there? What have you done? Usually something like this cannot happen for no reason.
Have you tried to update BIOS or what?

What happen exactly when you press power button?
Try to remove RAM and HDD and try it again.

Any ideas on how I can fix this?

The laptop is a Toshiba satelite L300D.

Answer:Toshiba l300D wont load up after bios update fail

It doesn't sound like it is fixable on your end. Flash BIOSes that go bad, leave you with a doorstop. You'll hear the statement, "I bricked my computer". This means you turned your device into a brick also known as a doorstop.

You might want to post at a good BIOS site
http://www.wimsbios.com/forum/

People do send bricked computers off, have the BIOS chip desoldered and a new one soldered on. You might be able to get information on that type of service.

Maybe if you contact Toshiba, they will be able to tell you of some companies that do this.

My husband brought home a Toshiba Portege M200/M205 from a foreclosure cleanout that he was doing that apparently crashed. Black screen that says "safe mode", "start normally", etc. I restarted it in Safe Mode. It starts to run a scan saying components regarding sysem 32 and then gets to a screen that says "PXE-E61 media test failure, check cable; PXE-MOF: Exiting intel boot agent. Insert system disk in drive...press any key" I don't have a system disk. Can I do anything with this tablet or should I just trash it?

Answer:toshiba portege M200]M205

PXE-E61 media test failure

This means that the the Boot File on the HDD is corrupted or the HDD has failed and the boot sequence has by passed the HDD and is going to the next device in the Boot Sequence which is a Network Boot which fails.
Boot off of the Windows Disc Or download the Recovery Console ISO. Burn it to CD with IMGBurn Boot off of the CD and get to the Recovery Console. Here type chkdsk /R and press enter. The Check Disk utility will try and fix any file errors.
You can also download the ISO image for Seatools or Drive Fitness in my signature and burn the image to a CD using IMGBurn also in my signature and boot off of the newly created CD and run the Quick and Advanced tests on the HDD to test the integrity of the drive.

Have the above that I need to get apart to fix the power in socket which I think this fellow has somehow cracked off the mobo.

But cannot find a manual for exposing the mobo - have tried Toshiba site - pretty useless and the others all want either money or one to sign up for the download which I cannot tell will be genuine or not.

Any suggestions please?

I have a Toshiba Portege M200 running XP that won’t boot. The Toshiba splash screen comes up then goes away, the HDD light turns on once and then shuts off and nothing happens. I tried hitting F12 to get into the bios but then the splash screen stays up and nothing else happens. I can get into the advanced startup menu by hitting F8. I tried booting to safe mode and last known good configuration but still nothing happened.

I also tried taking out the battery and booting it without the battery because I read that may work, but I had no luck with that either.

Does anyone know how I can troubleshoot this?

Thanks for reading,

Matt

Answer:Toshiba Portege m200 won't boot

Try downloading Fedora Linux iso, and burn that image to a CD. Boot with it, and when it comes to its desktop, you will see all your hard drives. IF the CD won't boot, then its a machine problem. If the hd doesnt show up, then we know it is a hd problem. If the hd does show up, you can copy out all your data onto a usb memory stick.

I have a Toshiba Portege M200 Tablet PC. It has no built-in or external CD-ROM/DVD or Floppy drives. It has bios settings that will allow it to boot from HDD, FDD, CD-ROM, or LAN. I have the Toshiba Recovery DVD from the manufacturer. The Toshiba support site lists the supported external CD/DVD drives that will work with the recovery disk. I don’t have any of these and I am trying to use a generic DVD drive with an IDE to USB adapter. I am able to connect the DVD drive (with this adapter) to a computer running XP and I am able to access DVD’s on that computer. It works until i enter: net use y: \\192.168.1.5\cd
and i get a line that say's : the password is invalid for \\192.168.1.5\cd (followed immediately by a prompt that says)
Enter the user name for '192.168.1.5': ( i do this and next comes the password option)

Windows 7 Home Basic, in a HP DM1, AMD E-350, 4gb RAM, 320 GB HDD.

Last played a movie using HDMI. Returned to use it a few hours later and it took forever to load. Once it did, it took me to an unfamiliar home page.

Turns out I was logged in to a temporary profile. I found my files but did not dare move them yet. Tried F8 and then startup repair. (It said i attached a device and should disconnect and then restart) Then I tried a regedit fix (HKLM .. profiles). After that I cant seem to login even in safe mode. Got a very short message (fatal error) in a BSD.

Help will be greatly appreciated.

Hey Friends,

My fiance has a laptop that has worked fine until a week ago. Now it will only load to the bios screen (I think that is what it is called - the screen that says Toshiba on it). It won't boot from there. I have tried pressing the f menu keys and it will say loading but won't go anywhere. Here is what I have tried:

1. I thought it was a hdd failure so I took out the hdd and put it in my dock at home and it worked fine so I put it back in.
2. I reseated the RAM hoping that would fix the problem, it didn't.
3. I tried to boot from the CDROM with no success.

I am at a loss of what to do and any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Leafer

I opened my computer from stand by earlier. And received a error message such as:

WINDOWS CANNOT CONTINUE BECAUSE THE FOLLOWING FILE IS CORRUPT AND UNREADABLE ________
Then it had a countdown until it restarted. After the computer restarted (the toshiba screen loads up) then nothing happends. I've managed to get into the safe mode start up page, however when I select boot in safe mode, it doesn't do anything, effectively freezes. Seems the problem is with XP.

I have also tried doing 'last good configuration' but that also refuses to load.
I can get into BIOS however.

The black background and white writing boot screen which breifly flashes up when after the toshiba screen doesn't even come up.

I have a Satilite P100-429 Using XP SP2 (or 3) can't remember.

Is this a hardware issue? Will I lose data?

As far as I am aware my system was clean and I was using a good anti-virus.

Please please let me know if you have any suggestions or comments.

Thanks in advance, Max..

Answer:WXP Won't load up - Toshiba welcome screen then then nothing

hi RisSsky,

you are in deep deep sh...t...no not really...
sounds like the filestructure on hdd is damaged.
is the hdd recognised by bios? means it is listed as a device?
is there an audible sound from hdd? scratching or humming or ticking?

chkdsk may help but i would do it "safe mode" in case you wanna not lose data on disk.

dont panik we'll get it right.

2 options to solve this:
the first and save:
- disasemble old hdd (you'll need it later)
- get a new hdd and make a recovery/installation on the new disk.
- get also an usb-hdd connector to get access to the old hdd and copy data to the new disk.
or the 2nd:
- run chkdsk on your hdd maybe you have to do this with a "live-system-on-cd"
be aware if there is a serious problem it will get worse...
- start in safe mode

if you are lucky the 2nd option will do it.
as said before i would do it "the safe way"

I have a question about my Toshiba M200. it makes a noise on the hard drive whenever I place it down on a hard surface. For instance if I turn it on, put it on the desk or simply tap the base where the hard drive is located it makes a sharp noise (which makes the hard drive go crazy with an annoying sound) as if the hard drive caddy is touching the hard drive. What could be the problem? Is it the hard drive because I was thinking of getting another, or could it be the cover in which protects the hard drive, THANKS!

hello jscar,

now this sounds like driver issue

what i want you to do is when you start your system (push the start button ) start tapping the (F8) key

now your system should bring up a screan that says

safemode
safemode with network
safemode with command prompt

this first time we co here i want you to select (safemode) / your system should start !! it will be running with generic drivers so everything may look all distorted (suppose to )

if your system dose load thenyou will have a few questions ( just say yes )

now what i need to do is go to your (device manager)

now once there you will want to select from the toolbar of the window(veiw) then a drop down menu / from it you will select (show all hidden devices)

now if you see any (red or yellow) quotation marks , make a note of what they

now go to the (event veiwer) this is thru the (administrator tools) in the control panel
here you will find 3 to 4 subcatagories

you will want to check each of them for this is where windows keeps track of all errors
now you will want to make notes of the errors that have been recorded ( you do not have to make notes of double entries just of the dates of their happenings & how many there is)
you will get more information on the errors if you (right) click them / then select properties

then get back to us

Well, I tried to run FC2 but all I end up with is the small splash screen, I click on it and it wont respond. I heard a lot of things about solutions, but most of them were for certain graphics cards. I did a little more searching and found that Intel might be lying about their game playability of their chipsets (Yes, I have a crappy chipset *Intel GMA 3100 G33*) but someone said it could run Far Cry 2, and they linked it from the Intel website. All my drivers are up to date. I am not sure what to do right now...

Answer:Far Cry 2 Wont Load Past Splash Screen?

Hello Madandfrustrate,
Go to this site and it will give you an idea as to whether you can run this game or not.

Can You Run It

FC2 is very intense on the graphics, so its a coin flip, if Intel say it will run the game, then it should.
If you get it running, you will have to turn everything down so much that it will not be a great gaming experience.
I have seen Videos of FC2 running on your chipset on YouTube, so it should be possible.

Hope this helps, good luck and post your results.

Ive put in a windows 7 x64 disk in the cd drive however it doesn't give me the option to run it by disk...on the off chance that it doesnt freeze at the motherboard screen i can get into the bios and it runs DISK->HD->XTERNAL.
{What i think the problem is} i think it lyes somewere in the chipset with the motherboard but how am i supposed to get the chipset if the computer doesnt load and when it does it blue screens and when i try to put a new OS on it it doesnt even load the disk....This is my WALL.

ive tryed using a different powersupply with it but thats not the problem, the computer starts every time it doesnt load anything past the motherboard screen...

My wife's Toshiba using Win 7 won't load. On start-up the circling Windows symbol hangs and eventually presents a message that there has been an error in the starting of Win 7 and I'm given two choices, start again normally or try to have Windows repair itself.
Neither works. I'm then given a choice of trying to Restore, which it doesn't (unable to Restore).

Lastly Toshiba asks if I want to try to save all the files and then perform a reformat, After many hours it says the saving of the files failed and the laptop is reloaded with the factory Windows 7. Essentially start anew

After Win 7 reformats (a couple of hours) I'm left with machine as it was when first purchased,I then begin to restore the old set-up I had before this all happened beginning with downloading Foxfire (no old bookmarks) and Thunderbird (no old client email list), etc,

Geek Squad ran a 12 hour diagnostic and found no hardware problems. Win 7 just "forgot" how to load start-up (again).

This will be the second time in about a month that his has happened.

The machine has no D: drive, so I can't try to do a Recovery. I there any software that I could D/L on my other PC and load via a USB memory stick to do a recovery or am I doomed to just start over. All old files gone.

I am also given the choice, when all else fails of going into command line mode, but have no idea what instructions or even the correct format of any command line instructions that I could exe... Read more

Portege M200 - CPU runs only at 600 MHz

I have a Portege M200 with a Dothan Pentium M 725 supposed to run at 1.6 ghz but posts a 598Mhz
clockspeed. I updated the bios to 1.8.

I read in a previous 'locked' post ...... :
http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=63390

...there is supposedly a DOS base utility from Toshiba to solve the issue. .
it is said it is not a Bios issue.....................

Can anyone direct me to this utility?

Thanks!

Gary

Answer:Portege M200 - CPU runs only at 598 MHz ! Toshiba DOS Base Service Tool

The answer is here...thank all and whoever is responsible:

http://forums.toshiba.com/t5/Qosmio-Laptops/598-MHz/td-p/194566

The key is a utility called ' pom200t1 '

You will need the following.

A floppy or if you don't have one an external floppy drive, or if you are savvy to be able to boot a file from a CD-Drive.
You will also need WinImage as all the files you download come as .ima files
Download pom200t1-V1.5.zip and pom200t1.zip (if one doesn't work the other should).

You can find them here:

http://www.stormpaintball.com/toshiba/pm765.bin (this one is a last ditch attempt).
Then follow these instructions from the site I posted before:

Symptom:CPU stays at 598 MHz constantly.

*Procedure:*

1) Boot into BIOS. (Press "Esc" during the boot process, before the OS loads, but after entering your password, if you are using boot-time password protection).

2) Look under the "Others" category.

3) If the motherboard doesn't have enough information about the CPU, the category "Dynamic CPU Frequency Mode" will be blanked out (you won't see it).

If the laptop is in this condition it will never go faster than 598 Mhz until you perform the following procedure.
Note: Although this utility says that it is for a Toshiba Portege M200, the particular fix you need might work on other Toshiba laptops.
It has worked on 3 different Toshiba Satellite Pro M15 S405s, but *USE AT YOUR OWN RISK*.

1) Boot into Windows and create... Read more

Hi Guys,

I am having some trouble with my computer.
Some History-
The PC is now over a year old and has been running fine for about a year.
AMD 3500+
939GT4- SLI-G Mobo
2 GB Twinmoss Ram
200 Sata HD
DVD
6600GT Sli Pixel View Graphics PCIe
Super Flower 500 Watt PSU.

Now about 6 months ago, I started to get the Nvidia card sentinal saying the Graphics Card isnt getting enough power and will reduce its performance to prevent any damage. I checked it all out and it appear to be fine so pretty much ignore the issue.

About 2 months ago my computer, whilst playing a game, would turn off the monitor and shut down, the game in question was City of Heroes. Some nights it would work fine others it would happen twice then run fine again.

Last week the computer was running really slow and had a process running at 99%. I fixed this by deciding to do a complete formatt and resinstall.
I reinstalled everything including the graphics card drivers (the pop up about insufficient power was still there). Everything was running fine until last night when the screen went in horizontal lines of greens and whites.

On a restart it gets to the windows logo with the progress screen and then remains blank.
I then restarted and up came 'the Windows did not start properly last time' and listed the Safe mode options. Obviously normal did not work but i could use both Safe modes.
Now thinking the PSU was at fault, I ran out to get a new 600 Watt PSU and the same thing happened.

I will add though that my battery is dead and often falls off the back of the computer...I have read something about battery issues being a cause of start up problems....other then that I have no idea what to do and my gut is telling me there has to be something I can do and that my computer should still be functional...HELP please lol

Answer:Windows 7 wont load past start up screen

How were you able to back up files when you can't get Windows running?  What happened to your computer that lead to the problem of the battery falling off?  Have tried removing the battery and then starting your computer with it plugged in to a wall outlet?

ok this happened about 3 months ago, i just havnt had the time to adress the problem until now (because im in shepparton with crap all to do)

my comp started to get a little unreliable, ie: random restarts, sometimes wouldnt load past boot post screen. but it usually gets there in the long run.

i went away for a week or so, come back to turn my computer on, and now everytime it gets upto the xp loading screen, it will either lock up, shut off, or display the blue screen of death. i tried reinstalling windows but that didnt seem to help at all.

the only other computer at my house is a new core2 duo, which i am not aloud to pull apart.. plus the components wont fit into mine anyway.. im using as follows (old i know!)

XP Athlon 2600+
ASUS A7N8X Deluxe
1g Corsair Value Ram
ATI X850XT
460w PSU
120g Seagate barracuda.

Can anyone suggest whats going wrong with it?

Answer:Comp died, wont get past xp load screen? plz help

Two main choices ...bad ram or a bad PSU ....remove everything except ram and the hard drive and see if it will boot. If not....try a diff. PSU.

I have a Toshiba Satellite C850 - 1GL laptop with windows 8.1 and every time i try to load windows i get to the login screen and the laptop crashes. I cannot enter a password to access my account, restart or anything. I have to turn the laptop off with the power button.
I managed to access the bios and used a windows 8 disk, but i can't use any of the options for example automatic repair, refresh and system restore. I get a message saying the drive where windows is installed is locked. unlock the drive and try again.
I try to use the reset pc option but I get a message saying unable to reset your pc, a required drive partition is missing.
Has anyone got any ideas?

Hello, this morning i went to use my computer and i noticed it was frozen on the windows shutting down screen. I held down the button on my laptop and then tried to restart it. The dell screen comes up and then the windows screen with the rolling blue bar but it just stays at that screen. It doesn't freeze since the bar is still moving, but it won't go past that page. I've tried to load it in safe mode and its gets to the windows is starting up screen and seems to stall there. Last known good configuration also doesn't work. I don't have a windows disk but i have the recovery council installed on my computer. When i try to run that I get"

My computer has a virus on it called svchost.exe. My computer will boot and stuff normally and the "Welcome" screen comes on and it starts loading my background desktop and stuff and all of a sudden a box comes up saying "Personalizing Settings: C:// .... svchost.exe." Can someone help me?

Answer:Virus wont let my computer load past welcome screen!

Hi and welcome to TSF.

My name is Iain and I will be helping you clean your system.

svchost is usually a critical system file and must not be removed - however, it can become infected or copied elsewhere.

I'd like to see a log if possible, before doing anything else. Can you boot to Safe Mode?

Download GMER Rootkit Scanner from here to your desktop. It will be a randomly named executable. Before scanning, make sure all other running programs are closed and no other actions like a scheduled antivirus scan will occur while the scan is being performed. Do not use your computer for anything else during the scan.
Double click the exe file.
The program will begin to run, and perform an initial scan. If possible rootkit activity is found, you will be asked if you would like to perform a full scan. Click No.
In any case, after the initial scan is complete, click on the Save button, and save the log file somewhere you can easily find it, such as your desktop, and attach it in your reply.

I've had my laptop for about 2 years or so, and I've tried turning it on and it comes up with 'diagnosing your pc' for some time, then after a while, it'll proceed to the normal toshiba leading innovation screen and it will stay on that. I've tried it without and with the battery in, and it still has the same problem

Answer:Toshiba satellite won't pass load up screen

Probably too hopeful but as it's easy to try, do this:Turn off, disconnect power and remove battery. Hold the Power Off/On button down for at least 20 seconds to discharge the motherboard components. It has been known at odd times to unstick things.Otherwise let us have your Satellite model number please.Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanksmessage edited by Derek

I wonder if there are any Techheads out there looking for a challenge?

I have a new Toshiba LCD HDTV that I want to use as the primary and only monitor for my Toshiba Satellite laptop.

I want to eliminate the laptops screen altogether.

I would like to know if there exists a connector or some other way to connect my laptops ribbon cable output to a VGA output and then to the HDTV via a VGA cable; or if there is a better way to go?

The screen on this 4year old laptop got cracked so I have to spend at least $75.00 for parts alone and if I go that way I might as well buy another laptop, or use a desktop with a wireless keyboard which will cost more than $100.00 to set up.

Besides, this seems like a kinda cool fix so if anyone has any bright Ideas, please respond.
Thanks

My Medion PC running Windows XP loads past the windows loading screen then simply goes black but the computer is still on and the screen is still active. My dual boot of Ubuntu works perfectly as does safe mode. Ive had this issue for a while but it used to turn on after i rebooted it but now it only turns on occasionally. Also I'm almost certain its got nothing to do with my hardware. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The laptop was dropped on the floor and when the laptop is turned on it automatically goes to the "Windows Error Recovery" screen. If you select to recover windows it starts the "Loading Files" part, but when the "Starting Windows" screen comes up, as the green bar gets halfway across on it's first time, the screen goes black and all that pops up is the cursor. I have done the battery reset by removing the battery, holding the power button down, and etc. On bios the hard drive does show up. I can not run the pc in safe mode no matter what option of safe mode I choose. What are other options to try for the pc? I do not have a usb thumb drive around to try to create a usb recovery option. Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

Answer:Windows 7 won't load after Toshiba laptop dropped on floor

I think the obvious answer here is to take your machine to your local reputable tech. Something within the case has become dislodged/disconnected/broken and without being physically able to see inside or run tests it is unlikely that a helper here will be able to help you. (I may be wrong and here's hoping)

Help!!
My laptop wont boot anymore. When i turn on my laptop i see the biosscreen and then i get a black screen (windows wont startup). Ive tried several things like accessing advanced bootmenu but i can not access that also.

The strangest thing is that i took out the HDD from the toshiba and inserted into another laptop and voila it works perfectly! So it is not windows or the HDD that has the a problem. Next thing i tried was putting the other HDD from the other laptop in the Toshiba and that also is working perfectly. (the only thing is that it keeps on asking to restore the recoverypoint, but i asume that has something to do with the difference in the hardware), so i can see more on the screen with this HDD then the original HDD.

Ive also tried to re-arrange the boot sequence to force the laptop to boot from the cd-romplayer with the windows cd in it. But that also wont work

ive tried to access bios and reset the default settings and reboot but that wont work( after bios run i get a black screen and no visible action of the hdd) the day before i had shut down the laptop the right way so ive noticed no problems with my hdd. Ive tried all buttons to get to into the ' safe mode' but that doesnt work. can someone help me?

Answer:toshiba laptop wont boot!

Is the screen completely blank after BIOS screen or is there a cursor?

You've tried just about every combination.

In the laptop that doesn't work try booting from the Windows CD with no HDD connected. Does it boot from CD?

******

Also double check you have no USB devices attached and no memory cards in any slots.

l have toshiba laptop, am trying to set up a Tevion USB turntable but dont know where line-out cables go

Answer:Toshiba laptop wont take USB tuntable why?

If it's the same as the Ion one I use then you don't have a lot of options. You can use just the USB connection, which doesn't give a lot of flexibility and on the Ion insists you install iTunes for some reason. For the line out cables you need to get an adapter that converts the two phono cables to a single stereo mini jackplug - Maplins/Radio Shack have them, this is then plugged into the microphone socket, but you have to mess around with the microphone volumes to get a good level. If you were using a desktop PC you use the 'line in' socket - but again you still need a phono to mini jack plug adapter."I've always been mad, I know I've been mad, like the most of us..." Answer:new toshiba laptop wont stsrtup

As it is new my first advice would be to take it back.but you could also try (at your own risk)typing restore7.exe after the x:windows\sysem32this should invoke the image in the x partition and reinstall windows 7 on the c: drive

I have a toshiba M40x laptop which wont start up. I was using it yesterday and then went to put it on the floor to go do something and as i did so it switched off. Initially I assumed it may have overheated, which it has done in the past) so left it for a while, but when I came to switch it back on it wouldn't power up. The power light comes on when the dc adapter is connected, but there is no light for the battery, to say it is being charged ( there was charge in the battery however when it switched itself off). The power on button doesn't light up when pressed . i have put in a cd/ & dvd and the light comes on to show it is trying to read the disc, also, the fan comes on after about 30 seconds. The fan doesn't stay on without the dc adapter in.but will stay on all the the time otherwise. I had read on forums to disconnect both dc adapter and battery then to hold the power in button for a minuteish which i have done. the first time i did this i did then get the light to come on on the power on button and i had the self test screen for a matter of seconds then it shut down again. i now can no longer get anything at all when i press the power on button. i have also tried reseating the ram but when i opened it up there didn't seem to be anything to actually remove to reseat, so assumed the memory is internal. Not being a pc whiz at all, i didn't want to take the back off completely. Is there anything else I can try? and if so , ill need an an explanation in dummy language!! lol

Answer:Toshiba laptop wont start up

Try it with the battery out and and just the power adapter in.

Hi, have a toshiba satellite M40, when it boots, i get ntldr missing, so i put boot to xp cd, but i still get ntldr missing, changed out cd player, and hardrive, but still getting same message.
I have a few different bootable cd's, i hear them spinning, but just get ntldr missing, everytime.
I was told by the owner, that he formatted hardrive, but if it wont boot to cd, what can i do?
Any ideas would be appreciated.
thanks.

Answer:toshiba laptop wont boot

You cannot get a NTLDR is missing message...if the system is not set to boot from the hard drive.

Go into the BIOS/Setup...change the boot options so that the optical drive is the first boot option...then try your clean install.

Using CDs which are designed for a different system...may not necessarily be useful when trying to install from said CDs on a Toshiba.

Newbee here...need some advice.  I want to clone or backup-restore (basically dump!) my XP pro tablet laptop HDD to an old desktop, the former which I don't use any more thanks to a shiney new vista jobby.Don't really need to do anything with the data, just need for it reference (contains business stuff). Can't use the Toshiba recovery disk on the Packard Bell (PB) as it appears to be machine-specific (thought about restoring OS on PB then transferring files) so could do with some ideas. (NB I've the CD box, CoA for Xp that was on the PB...but no recovery CD so can't do it that way either!!!).Have a ghost image, checked & ok of the whole M200 disk.  There's a new formatted disk in the PB with no OS. Can you guys put forward some suggestions on how I could get the OS and data across and working without getting a BSoD.  PB 3050 drivers are available on manuf website, so need someone with a bigger brain than me to clarfiy the best way to achieve what I want to.Thanks...

Answer:Transfer Toshiba M200 tablet to Packard Bell imedia 3050 Desktop

You got a new laptop but you still have the old one, right?  So, why transfer the files on your old laptop to an old desktop?  What OS is on the old desktop?  If you basically want to backup your data files from the old laptop onto the old desktop, then just copy them to it.  But, transferring the OS over is not a good idea, in my opinion, and is likely to be a messy procedure.  You could even end up with an inoperable desktop. Also, why not transfer your data files over to the new laptop?

I dont know alot about computers so please bare with me. I deleted alot of old programs (such as games etc) which I do not use anymore, *through the control panel add/remove programs*, then did a virus scan, and deleted what was found, and decided to go to www.microsoft.com and get the sp3.. after I installed, when I restarted my computer later, it gave me a black screen saying that it was shut down unexpectedly, and offers safe modes, last good config, and start normally, I have tried all three options, with safe mode, it freezes the computer, with the other two, it boots to the windows logo screen, then it will restart the entire system. Is there any way to fix this? I did not get windows disks or anything like that when I bought the computer, I did create recovery disks, but have since lost one of them, so they aren't much help.

Thanks

Answer:[SOLVED] computer wont load past windows logo screen

lickitysplit87,

It's going to be difficlt without the XP CD, as that has the Recovery Console that we need in order to get your computer past the logo screen and into the OS.

Have a read here. If you feel confident that you can get the ISO burnt to disk, come back and we'll continue.

Good Day.I have a Toshiba laptop that will not successfully load Vista. It appeared to be working properly, until I ran an AVG virus scan. It was running slow, but okay for about 4 hours and I left it go.  When I returned to the unit, screen was on but dark, lights on and wouldn't 'wake up'.  Eventually powered off and has not been able to load to completion.  I do get the error screen with the option to repair the start up; I accept that option, but never get more than a on-but-dark screen; power is still on.What next?  No Vista CD, just the key on the bottom of the unit.Hope someone can help.J

Problem #1 toshiba

Problem #2 was using the laptop, no internet or im's on... had a game running... it was charging. then all of a sudden it just died on me.
No lights turn on, not even the light in front to tell me if it's charging.
Wont boot up.
nothing.
also i pulled the battery. it's at 50% still. im kinda clueless.
all i can think of it May be is that theres a short where the cable plugs in... if so how hard is it to pull apart? and check it out... im sure that if that port gets screwed up nonetheless the battery wont turn it on cause of that...
can anyone think of what this might be?
basicly i have a paperwieght right now and i can push buttons all day long ... pretty fun
Im currently in iraq right now, so trying to figure out what i may need. im close to baghdad and ill prolly just have one of the Terps go pick the parts up for me... nonetheless... anyone got any ideas?
