Vista JPEG files on CD can not be read

Question: Vista JPEG files on CD can not be read

I have recently bought a new computer with Windows Vista I have tried to burn some photographs to CD for printing and although they are shown on the CD in Vista when you try to view from another sauce it shows a blank disc. Can anyone suggest how to cure this please. My old computer was Windows 98 and I had now trouble with that.

Preferred Solution: Vista JPEG files on CD can not be read

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Vista JPEG files on CD can not be read

I have been given a selection of images on a CD-R to prepare for a forthcoming slide show. Some of which needed work done to them. I loaded the images from the CD into my computer and proceeded to work those that needed it in PSP8. The show needed then to be transferred to a flash card to view the show on TV via an image viewer[AverFotoPlay] To do this I ran them through XATSHOW - Standard to regain the camera XIF attributes where those that have been edited would have lost them. Part way through the copy process several [unedited] images threw up as 'Read Only' - With a Window denial message' and will not transfer . It turns out that of the 80 or so images all those after 57 are affected. Looking at the properties, of such an image , the read only box remained empty. The strange thing about this is as mentioned - they copied off CD into my machine OK and the modified set Burned to a new CD-R OK.They have also copied to a Zip So what is XAT seeing or not as the case may be? And what can be done to get round the problem So far I have tried ticking the Read only box, then unticking it and clicking on apply. - No Joy there I have tried giving a new name and using save as -no joy there either. I have also in Irfanview- converted a sample to BITMAP saving as to a new loctation then converting back to JPEG. have tried also tranferring the images 'straight' without goinf through XAT.Still the error massages come up. The Media cards[ Compact and Smart] will not accept this group- g... Read more

Answer:Phantom Read Only Jpeg Files

Jack as I understand things AverFotoPlay will play jpgfrom any camera as a slideshow, so why bother putting them through xatshow. Also once the exif has been stripped from an image file nothing can replace it, so I fail to see what you mean.Edit your images in PSP8 then transfer them directly to a flash card, AverFotoPlay should do the rest.

Recently I acquired an LCD multimedia display with built in jpeg reader. I used the flash card with jpeg images on it, from my camera, to test it and the display's reader worked fine. Then I downloaded jpeg's from my computer onto the same flash card and tried to view them and could not. I then put the card into the camera and it would not recognize those jpeg's either, only the images made by the camera. Both would, however, open another jpeg image made by an earlier camera. All the images work fine when viewed on the computer and I cannot tell them apart by any means that I know of to get info on them. I have reformatted some to no avail. I also downloaded images directly from the web and tried them, same problem - once on the flash card, neither camera or the display's reader sees them. Since I have always gone the other way, viewing and reviewing photo images after loading them onto my hard-drive, this problem is perplexing and, so far, I haven't run across it in on-line resources. Any
insight on this would be appreciated.

Answer:external jpeg viewer won't read some jpeg's

With reverse viewing on a camera, the resolution and file naming structure and location (folder on the card) usually has to be exact or the camera will ignore the image.

Unsure about the LCD display, but could be a resolution limitation.

Hi,I have a HP computer with Windows Vista. I have a CD with jpeg files on it that I made a while ago on another computer (non-vista). Whenever I insert the disc into my new computers disc-drive the autoplay function seems to stall at the 'searching for content' stage. The only other bit of information that may be useful is the file system is CDFS (from right-clicking the properties function). Can anyone provide a solution to this one? Thanks!Chris

First time on this forum, so I hope I chose the right category to post my problem. I just got a new laptop, and it has Vista Home Premium.

My problem.. I use a program/application called "DVArchive" (aka: DVA) for archiving my tv shows on my PC (from my ReplayTV). This application worked just fine on XP, but of course, Vista is giving me all kinds of crap.

The application IS working.. It can see my ReplayTV unit, I can access my archived shows, etc. However, Vista is giving me error messages, which are interfering with it and making it crash.

The problem has to do specifically with the applications configuration (.XML) files. I'm pretty tech saavy, but I'm not a computer expert, so I'll just cut and paste the actual error messages below. The listed pathways are where DVArchive stores it's files...

Hubby just got a shiny new computer, running Vista Home Premium - so far so good. His previous files were run in XP Home and saved on an external HDD using Office 2000. He uses the external drive in preference to saving to CD or DVD. The new computer has Works 8.5 loaded which didn't recognise the files saved in Office, so he installed Office 2000 as well. The problem arose when he tried to save work from the external HDD using Office 2000 in Vista. These files are all now "read only" and although it should be a simple matter to overcome, he cannot, nor can I. Logic tells us that the problem arose only because Vista is now the operating system as there was no problen with XP.

Could anyone out there offer any solutions please?

Answer:Xp External Files Are "read Only" In Vista

This may be the wierdest idea you get, but please bear with me.

Go into control panel and create a new user. Log out of Vista, and log in as the new user. Load office and see if you still get the issue.

I've encountered this a couple of times and it's always in the OEM version of Vista that comes pre-loaded on new machines. It happens on my HP Pavilion laptop too - in order for the manufacturer to circumvent certain blocks Vista puts in place, the default profile created when you first start up a new machines can sometimes have a really weird set of permissions - sometimes older programs can get access denied errors for the strangest reasons.

Creating a new user profile uses the default ruleset Microsoft provides for Vista, and doesn't make a profile that may have the same limitations as your OEM manufacturer might use on their own default account. Where permissions are involved, this shouldn't work - but often does.

Let me know if it works in this instance.

I backed up my daughters laptop as the system crashed. I used the HP recovery disk and followed there instruction to back up all files. I did this to a external hardrive.
They are titles as a backup.2.FBW file.
How do I open this to get what stuff I want off of it, or is this a proprietery file system.
Windows Vista Home Premium. HP laptop

Answer:How to read HP FBW Back Up files from VISTA?

Hi Steve

Look on your external hard drive, and see if there is a folder "\MINWINPC\Backup Files" that includes the date of the backup. If yes, there should be an executable file within that folder that will start a "recovery manager" and allow you to begin a restore process. From what I've read on the subject, I believe in some cases that the executable is actually named Backup.001.exe ---- you may have to change an option in Vista's Window Explorer to see the file extensions: From the Windows Explorer Organize menu on the 'action bar', select Folder and Search Options and then select the View tab, and make sure to uncheck the option-box Hide extensions for known file types.

Backup folder naming conventions & leading zero fix:

drive-letter-of-external-drive:\MINWINPC\Backup Filesdate-of-backup \
- Backup.001
- Backup.002.fbw
- Backup.003.fbw
- Backup.004.fbw
. . . . .
NOTE: due to a flaw in the Hp recovery program, be sure to rename all the backup, nnn.fbw files from 010.fbw onward, adding another "0" infront of the filenames...
backup.010.fbw - becomes - backup.0010.fbw
backup.011.fbw - becomes - backup.0011.fbw
backup.012.fbw - becomes - backup.0012.fbw
and so on.
[thanks to troy at the tech republic forums for the 'extra leading zero' tip]

I have a CD containing photos as jpg files. I can read it perfectly well on my old laptop using Windows XP but when I insert it in the Toshiba laptop using Windows Vista it tells me there are no files on the disk???

Any suggestions?

Answer:Vista does not read my CD containing photos as jpg files

One question;
Vista doesn?t recognize the files only or the whole inserted CD???

Maybe this issue has nothing to do with the installed operating system but with the CD/DVD drive?

I assume you have created and burned this picture CD on another machine.
I have noticed many times that the CD or DVD which were burned using different CD/DVD burner cannot be read correctly on other notebooks.

But one hint;
Did you try the registry trick?
Remove the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters values completely from the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Then reboot the notebook and check if the CD can be read!

My Mac died yesterday, and until I get it running, I'm trying to access files from one of its four hard drives (FAT 32). I connected the drive in my HP desktop running Vista. It appears in Disk Management as Unknown, Not Initialized. When I right-click on it there is an option to Initialize. This drive is not listed in Explorer. My question is, how can I access files on this drive without risking losing files?

Answer:How can I read FAT 32 files on a Vista machine?

Vista reads FAT32 just fine.

If the drive is showing up as uninitialized and/or unformatted, then most probably the partition table is corrupted.

I could probably fix that, but I would do it using Linux. I am not familiar with Windows disk repair tools anymore; I have not used them in forever and that technology changes.

Do not do ANYTHING to the drive. At this point it is not obvious that the data is still available on the drive, though if the problem is merely the partition table then the data IS still there. If you mess with it, you will probably render it unrecoverable.

I would recommend that you image the drive exactly as it is to some other location, then work on the image, thus preserving the original drive in case you ruin the image.

If you are familiar with Linux and have a Linux Live CD available (such as Knoppix, or one of the specific repair distros), then I can take you through the steps to identify the problem and attempt to fix it.

If you are not familiar with Linux, then stop now and wait for someone who knows how to use the Windows tools to show up on this thread.

Hi, I recently got married and was given the picture negatives on CD, it comes with a letter saying not compatible with windows Vista, Any one know how I can get these using Vista? it says will only work with Windows 2000 or XP... Cheers

Answer:vista wont read CD files

What were you going to do with the negatives?

I don't see what would not be compatible here.....does the CD have something you must install, like a viewer program, in order to look over the negs?

Are you not able to see the negatives on the CD?

Need more details on what you are trying to do.
Would any of this be what you need to work on?

Just about any place that specializes in photo printing, scanning, etc could help you if you cannot work this out yourself.

What I advise you to do, is first make some copies of that disc! Never surrender the only copy you have.......

Have you simply tried your local library or a friend who has an XP computer to look at the negs??

The Windows Picture and Fax Viewer is installed on Windows XP but has been replaced in Vista.....there is help at the link I posted.

My previous computer crashed from a critical system failure in Windows XP home which would make the computer reboot when a user profile was selected. It would boot up okay up to the welcome screen where you select a user profile, then after trying to load that profile it would reboot the computer. (No, this post isn't asking for help with WindowsXP.)

Well, that computer was already getting old, so I took this chance to get a new computer, a new eMachine T3656 with Windows Vista Home Basic (SP1). So far everything is going fine with this new computer and with Vista.

My question is, would it be possible to remove the hard-drive from the previous computer (the one with WinXP) and install that hard-drive into the new computer (with Vista) to retrieve files from the XP computer?

Would Windows Vista be able to access the folders from a WindowsXP computer?

Would the fact that that WindowsXP wasn't able to boot up to desktop prevent the Windows Vista computer from just accessing the user folders to retrieve my pictures, music files, documents, etc.?

Answer:Can Vista read XP files/folders from second hdd?

Yes vista should read the files you are after
You have two options, one is putting it in an external drive enclosure or as you said installing it.
If it is an IDE drive and you are installing it make sure you set the jumpers on the drive correctly.

i have a 6 year old computer that has died(M/B failure). It was running vista 32 bit with a lot of word files that I need. I am thinking of replacing it with a newer 1150 pin m/b and i5 cpu and appropriate ddd3 memory and load win 7 64 bit onto my old hdd. Will the newer operating system recognize the word 2002 program and the word files? will it even see the various partitions that exist on the hdd? The word files are very important.
Hoping someone can help me. Regards old dog

Answer:will windows 7 64 bit read vista 32 bit files

There should be a way to open those word files without any major hassle depending on the actual file format used...

Assuming that the HDD itself is not damage, you should easily be able to access the data many ways even if the OS itself i no longer functioning.

For example the easiest way would be to build your PC and install Win7 onto a new HDD. Once you do that, attach the old HDD as a slave drive and bam, ya should see that drive and access it like normal.
If it is just the M/B failed, you could still use the current OS to boot the vista even on that new MB (sometimes it works), and simply backup your data

If you only have the one HDD and it will not boot windows, you could use Hirens or some other bootable disc to open a virtualized windows environment to access the information and transfer the data off of it onto a flash drive or something.
Depending on your partition setup you could transfer the data onto a single partition and then install Win7 onto the other partition.

**BEFORE** You install Win7 on that old drive, you need to retrieve the data first, otherwise the data will be all lost.

I can't read some jpeg files on my laptop (Windows XP) from an external hard drive while i can read them on another computer (Vista and Windows XP). This is a recent problem, since last week end, after replugging the external HD, only some of the .jpeg file are accessible and can be visualized. Other in different directories can't be readen. If i plug the same HD to another computer, the jpeg file that were visible in the first computer can't be readen, while i can access to the one that were not previously visible.I would appreciate any help.

Answer:Can't read some .jpeg file on an external HD

The external drive requires that the USB port you plug it into can supply 500ma, and even if it can it may not read properly in all USB ports - e.g. a port in an external hub. There are lots of laptops that can't supply 500ma per port when more than one USB device is plugged into the ports built into it - it can only supply 500ma total for all the ports, or for a pair of ports - if you plug in only the external drive it may read fine, or you may need to plug it into two USB ports via a USB Y cord.Troubleshooting USB device problems including for flash drives, external drives, memory cards.See Response 1:

2. Did you look in the Recycle Bin?
3. What recovery program did you use?
4. Why do you believe they are in a temporary folder?
5. Do you know the name of the temp folder?
6. What drive are/were they on (e.g., drive c: - Pictures folder, external hard drive, DVD, etc...)?
7. Is the file extension (the end of the file name) .jpeg, .jpg, etc...?

Answer:Jpeg files

You say "a photo CD" - is that a special format, or just a simple CD with jpg files? If you used a program (rather than just copied the files) to burn the CD, perhaps you simply don't have the correct program to read them on the XP system. Other than that, there's no technical reason that the CD should be unreadable in XP. Re putting XP on the system - there is one major issue - does the system have a set of drivers for use with XP - some newer systems don't have. Also you may care to ask Dell if there is a "downgrade" option for your system - some Dell systems have that, I understand.

hiim looking to convert some drawings in pdf format to jpeg. i've downloaded 2 free programs but they don't work. does anyone know of some free software that will do this task?look forward to your repliesthanksdanny1234

Answer:convert pdf files to jpeg files

Interesting question, it's normally asked in reverse - how to convert jpeg to pdf, which may need some additional software. The point is that jpeg are pictures so you cannot do the process in a batch mode, it has to be done as individual pages so it may be long-winded but it's very simple. As you are using Vista you have an built-in free tool called 'Snipping Tool', available in Programs/accessories. open the pdf page you want then start 'snipping' - capture the page and you will be automatically prompted to save it as a pdf file. Sir, i cannot open JPEG/JPG files in Microsoft Photo Editor, but these files can be opened in another programs like paint brush etc.

Answer:Can't open JPEG files

apravjot, why not change the association so it opens using what it likes? Simply RIGHTCLICK the file in question and when it asks what to 'open with', select the proper proggie AND check the 'always use' box. If you simply must use photo editor, maybe update the drivers? I personally use FREE Irfanview (free @ ) to open ALL graphics. IE will open most things too. HTH.Ed in Texas.

Hi All!
Can anyone tell me if it is possible to repair corrupted JPEG files, such is this example: corrupted JPEG ??
The memory card suddenly stucked in my digital camera, and the only way to recover the data was to use some soft designated for this, but unfornately most of the pictures were corrupted like this.
I have tried various programs to recover datas from card but the result was always the same .
But I know that there is a chance to correct these corrupted JPEG's, as one soft for recovering damaged JPEG recovered some parts of the picture, not the whole - just some fragments, but anyway.
Somehow to change the binary code.....

Any advise will be appreciated!

I have a large collection of jpg files that I get off my Nikon D-SLR. After transferring them to my hard-drive and resizing using photoshop CS3, I keep them in D:\My Documents\My Pictures . I also e-mailed the pictures to friends. A few weeks later, I go to view the pictures and some of them won't load. In Windows "Picture Viewer" it just spends minutes "Generating Preview" when other not corrupted files are opened within a second. More importantly, when it finally opens the pictures half the photo loads and the rest of the picture is solid gray (what I'm calling corruption). The back-up files (DVD) and copies i've sent to friends do not have this problem. Not sure if it's a virus. Any ideas? Thanks a lot.

I have no idea what to do. I have no other computer the one i am using is the only way i can communicate with you guys, I know going on the internet can overwrite. I have 2 drives a c and a d drive. I tried the recovery but it did not work. I will let you know exactly what i did then maybe you can help me better. I have Windows Xp Home Edition, I went to Start, Control Panel, Performance and Maintenance, System,Then a window Pops up and it says System Properties. Then there are three selections to make you can go to Performance Settings User Profiles Settings, or Start Up and Recovery Settings. I went to User Profiles, Then It has my name and my husbands. I highlighted mine and then theres a button that says delete. So i hit delete and thats were my problems with lost pictures starts. I am having a hard time understanding this. I hope what i told you helps. Thank You. I really appreciate it.

Answer:Help!!!! I Deleted My JPEG files!!! =-(

Right I tried to recreate this on my PC. I made a user account called Test and copied some of the Jpegs I have into the "My Pictures" folder in that account, then went back to my normal login and deleted the "Test" account.

When you select to delete the account windows asks if you want to save your files or delete them. If you said Delete, I'm afraid they're gone. If you said Keep them however, they should eb there somewhere. If you remember the name of one, search for it and if anything is found, chances are they'll all be in that directory. If you can't remember the names,, run a search for pictures music and videos, then highlight only Pictures and search for

which should bring up every Jpeg on your machine. If it doesn't find them, I'm afraid they've gone.

Question: Open JPEG files

For several weeks now, I have had trouble opening .jpg files. I had no trouble inserting them into documents, or viewing them in documents, but I had to open HP Photo and Imaging in order to open the files directly. Ever since upgrading to Office '07 I haven't even been able to insert them into documents. I am able to use .tif and .bmp files, and sometimes .gif. No matter how I try to rename or save as, I can't change the file type. The best I can do is [filename].gif.jpg.

When I try to open a .jpg, I get an error message that says:
"[filepath][filename].jpg is not a valid Win32 Application"

Files that are already .bmp open with Windows Office Picture Manager.

It doesn't matter whether I insert a .jpg or a .bmp, I still get the same tiny box without resizing handles. Office '07 does not recognize it as an image, but rather as text.

The issue kind of crept up on me. At first it was just a "Huh!" But I'm not even sure when the first instances occured. I do create a system checkpoint daily, but haven't run it because, first, I have no idea what date to start with, and because NIS screws it up, and sometimes I have to run the whole thing several times before I get a successful restore. Actually, I have run it in the last couple weeks, but I don't know if it was successful or if I just gave up for the time being.

I run a full system scan daily, using NIS, and last week I followed up with a Spybot scan. Can someon... Read more

I've been working on a design in Photoshop CS6. Then, tomorrow after that, suddenly i can't open any PSD or JPEG files, either with photoshop or any image viewer. All of my past psds/jpegs seems to have been corrupted, even the default Windows 7 wallpaper.
But, i can create a new psd/jpeg file with photoshop and they're perfectly fine.
Is this the work of some kind of virus? If there is anyone that could fix this, i would really appreciate that. Thank you very much.
Note : I have tried retrieving some psds and jpegs with recovery tools, and they fix nothing.
Also, PNG and PDF works fine prior and after. I am very confused...
Specs (why not) :
- Windows 7 Home Basic SP1 64-bit
- Intel Core i5-2450m 2.50ghz
- Nvidia GeForce GT630m
Problems & Behaviours :
- Can't open any jpeg and psd made prior to the incident, even AI files doesn't work.
- They can't be opened by photoshop or any image viewer/editor.
- So far png, pdf, gif, icons works perfectly fine, dunno why
- All of my jpegs/psds seems to have been modified by "something" at the same day and the same interval time, it shows in "date modified" properties
- After i restart the laptop, i'm still able to open the new psds/jpegs i created after the incident
- Jpegs and psds in zips/rars are completely safe.
- No virus popups like in cryptorbit-lock virus
What i've tried so far :

Anytime an error mentions "corruption"...first thing I think of is reinstalling the program and running the chkdsk /r be followed (possibly) by running the sfc /scannow command.

I recently downloaded some jpeg files from a "hidden source" thru a software package called Amipic Sharemaster.
It seems as though I have been totally sucked in, because the files I received appeared as small coloured rectangles which I can't access.

I'm certainly not tech. minded; hence the tag Techdummy48. So what ever help you can give will need to be spelt out for a beginner.
The files may have some sort of encryption I'm not aware of and that's why they look like they do. They all have around 23 digits plus the words jpeg image next to the picture icon.

At this stage that's all the info I can give you.

Look forward to some suggestions.

I had downloaded PhotoShop Pro7 try and buy. And when I decided to uninstall it, I found that I couldn't open any JPG or JPEG files anymore. How can I fix this? How can I get the JPG format back?

Answer:Can't open JPG or JPEG Files

The best thing would be to reinstall Photoshop, associate it with all image files (there must be something like that in the options of PS), and reboot.

Now go back to the options of Photoshop, restore the Windows file associations again, and reboot once more.

Finally uninstall Photoshop in Add/Remove Programs, and reboot one last time.

Now you should be able to view jpegs again.

Alternatively, download and run

It should restore the Windows file associations for JPEGS and some other image file types.

Good luck,

I originally posted a problem in this forum titled "Here's a new problem for you to chew on", then it was moved to the "highjackthis" forum. Some felt my problem was a spyware issue. Well......after days of removing spyware and malicious software, the problem of me not being able to see SOME graphics on SOME webpages still exists. The ONLY reason I was aware there was a problem, is I am building a website, and I know what graphics should be on each page, when I was editing, I noticed on ONE page, I didnt see the banners I had put there. No box with a red X in blank space where it should be.....absolutely NOTHING there to indicate there should be a banner there. When I logged on to view with another computer......they were there! Its just on my desktop that I can't see them. I have no idea what I'm not seeing on other websites because I'm not getting the red X or anything. It's a very odd issue that seems to have all the tech supports from DELL baffled. Hopefully someone here will have a solution. To read the hystory of what I've done so far, please read the posts in the Highjackthis forum titled: Here's a new problem for you to chew on" My system seems to be running good, no errors, not sluggish.......etc. This happens in IE and some emails in OE.

Answer:Can't see some jpeg files on webpages

It sounds like an adblocker extension in your firewall is filtering out content from some sources. They could actually be ads; or it could just be the domain hosting the image files is questionable and on your firewalls block list.

Could also be a setting in tools/ internet options/ advanced / multimedia.
Make sure you have show images, play animations etc checked.

I'm not sure if this is the right category for this question, but I am having a problem with some of my photos I have uploaded and sent to be printed. These pictures do not print right. They are blurry and distorted. When I looked at the info. on these, it said j-peg files. Apparently I can't print these??? I am very confused and am hoping someone can help me fix this. I have alot of family photos that are in this format. I will be crushed if I lose them. Thank you in advance.

Answer:Reformatting jpeg files

Hey Laurie, Welcome to TSF.

Depending on the method you're using for printing, generally it will not matter what format the pictures are in, but what their resolution is. If a picture as a low resolution, and you try to print the same picture in a bigger size, your pictures may come out blurred.

However, to answer your question. You can change the format of your pictures by opening them in any Picture editor (Paint, Photoshop, Fireworks, Paint.Net, Photo Impact to name a few) If you need instructions on how to do this, please write back and let us know which program you would like the instruction you.

Hope this helps

Hi Geeks,

I've lost around 100 irreplaceable pictures (JPEG) and I'm tearing my hair out! I thought I had backed up every folder with pictures in it, but I had somehow missed these two folders. The strange thing is, none of the other pictures in other folders were damaged, just all of the pictures in one folder, and HALF of the pictures in a second folder. (No, I have not had any viruses or any other malware.)

When I go to look at these pictures, it says "No Preview Available" I've tried different programs to open the pictures, including Paint. So, using advice I had read on Majorgeeks, I used JPEG Snoop. This is the first result:

NOTE: File did not start with JPEG marker. Consider using [Tools->Img Search Fwd] to locate embedded JPEG.

I tried the suggested action, with the following result:

No SOI Marker found in Forward Search

We took the computer to a very good local computer shop earlier this week, and they did a search for all deleted pictures. The only problem is, I didn't delete them, they just got screwed up! Question: lost jpeg files

lost jpeg files

so i on my aunt's computer right now, trying to figure out where some of her images went to... she just got a new comp and she had a techy put the pictures form her camera onto her they are gone. i've looked all over for them...even tried system restore to the supposed date of the upload....any thoughs on this?

Answer:lost jpeg files

Seems obvious enough, but have u tried a simple search for *.jpeg on the drive he put them on (or narrow the search a bit if you have any idea what else might be in the file name).

If the files really can't be found on any drives, you can try the trial version of getdataback either FAT32 or NTFS, respectively for the comps file system. In the trial version you can't actually copy any recovered files, but it does let you open them. So just open the image files with any old program (mspaint) then save the image thru paint to anywhere on your drive.

I've used the above trick a number of times after accidentally deleting images from my camera's CF card. GL in your search.

I use Windows XP. I've downloaded hundreds of jpeg files to my computer, burned them to a cd, then deleted them from my computer. I can see the pictures when I insert my cd into my computer and the jpeg files will open.

Just days ago, when I try to download a jpeg file one of two things will happen: Either the file will dowload as jpeg, or the file cannot be downloaded as jpeg. Instead, when I right click and get "save as" my only choices are to save the jpeg file as ART or Bitmap.

For the few files that downloaded as jpeg, when I try to open them I get a blank screen with "no preview available" in the center. The Bitmap files can be opened.

I've read a lot of the forum where a number of jpeg questions are posted and I followed some instructions but nothing seems to work. I read that bitmap is a better quality pic than jpeg, but bitmap will not play on a dvd player but jpeg will so if I want to use the files in a presention maybe I can convert them to jpeg. How would I do that?

Thanks so much for your help.

I have a cd/r disc with some images I use for teaching and some family photographs taken on my digital camera. The disc has been used to add files to it about 5 or 6 times and files have saved ok. All of a sudden I cannot read from the disc - doesn't show up on either of my disc drives on file explorer or when trying to open with any phot editing package including Photoshop 7.0. These images are very important to me - can anyone advise me how to open what seems to have become a corrupted disc? If you can I would be very very grateful. Thank you for reading this.

Answer:jpeg and bmp files won't open any more

There are several programs around that will try and recover files from a CD, the better ones probably cost a little more.

The above link would be a typical application. Many will allow you to see if a recovery is possible, but will not actually recover unless you buy the program.

If I can make a suggestion though, please consider never "adding" to a CD, when it contains such valuable images. You place the entire contents at risk when you do so, as the entire "table of contents" has to be re-written in total and any corruption then affects all files on the CD.

I really need some help.
Every time I upload pictures from my camera (Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ6) they come out at around 3.0mb and over. This means it's taking up a whacking amount of space on my computer. Can someone please tell me how I can change a setting or something on my camera?
Also, I have around 2,000 of these pictures ALREADY on my computer, how do I change the file size with out making the picture physically smaller. It would also be better if I could edit them in bulk.

Answer:JPEG files of over 3.0mb from my camera.

I found a good microsoft programme which saves photos as wmv files, they're great for playing on the PC but won't play through my DVD player. The spec for the DVD player says files should be saved as JPEG or MP3.Previously when I've saved photos onto a CD they have saved as JPEG and played through the DVD player. However, this photo file (PhotoStory3) doesn't seem to save that way at all.I haven't been able to Rip through media player - i'm not sure what to do next.

Answer:Converting wmv files to jpeg and or mp3

Try typing Converting wmv files to jpeginto google

I received 2 JPEG files from someone I knew. I tried to open them and they did not open. The next thing I know my email contacts are notifying me they are getting emails from me with the same 2 files. Does anyone know anything about this. It started yesterday. I think it came from a google account. I am using iPads on the road.

Answer:Virus in JPEG files

Are you sure the files were actually JPEGs? They could be disguised malware. You know, a .exe file with the name something.jpeg.exe.
Could you upload the two files to a host like Zippyshare and share them with us?

Question: Huge .jpeg Files

Hi Everyone,

I'm not sure if this is the right forum to post this question in but here it is, A friend has sent me several pictures of her daughter. They are in JPEG or JPG format and should be something like 20 to thirty Kb in size... However, those little buggers are all over 2.5 Mb in size.

I received them through Yahoo Mail, and according to Yahoo's virus checker they are clean. My virus checker said that they were clean too.

My questions are ---> Why are those .JPG files so large, and is there anything I can do to take them apart to hunt for hidden data?

Thanks for any insight into this.

Answer:Huge .jpeg Files

Hi, Wendy .When a user takes digital photos, they are (typically) quite large in original form.A couple of days ago, I extracted 4 or 5 photos directly from my little digital camera and emailed email was over 13MB. I knew they would be that large without my running them through a graphics editor and reducing them in size (which is what should be done when emailing graphics). If you don't have a graphics editor installed, there are various free programs that you can use to reduce the size of the graphic...I don't use any of them (since I Ulead PhotoImpact installed) but wait for someone to provide some input as to what programs others have experience with. also see where you can resize by using MS Paint,

Hey there...ok...I have some files that are saved from the Macs at school...when I take them home to my PC (Win) they don't have the extensions on them...when I originally save something from Windows and take it to a Mac and modify and save it then take it back to my PC it still has the extension and keeps it since it was added by Windows...

So I am wondering there a program for Windows that recognizes Mac files and andds the extensions back??? I hate when I start work on some things at school and have to add the extensions to all the stuff I created when I take it back guess is the Macs store the extensions or what the file opens up with or whatever in their "._(filename)" files...that's annoying too...for every file you have another is created with a "._"...

Any help on this??? THANX

Answer:Files saved from Macs don't have ext.'s when read on Win. Need sftwre 2 read & convrt

I've never had that problem. If you save it as a "xxx" type document it doesn't matter if you have the software that created it on both Mac and PC (or software that can read the format) so I don't know how/what is going on with your situation.

BTW my experience is with using Word (forgot which version but it's on OS X) on a Mac and OpenOffice on my PC.

Hi there,

On my laptop,

It recently started saving JPEGs as PHP files.

Each time I try to save a photo, it tries to save it as Attachment with the extension jpeg
So, I rename the "attachment" part to "123456" or whatever. When I go to the folder, it is saved as 123456.php

Not a jpg at all! I've cleared my cache. I've cleared my temp folder. I've uninstalled firefox through Windows Control Panel and reinstalled firefox. Still, the same issue.

-- A few days ago, a picture file would save as its original name.jpg no issue. I am completely stumped!

I am on a laptop with Windows XP and using Firefox 39.0
Thank you in advance!

Answer:Files From Internet Saved as PHP instead of JPEG

I've tried looking online for help on this issue but the only thing I find is for people to clear their cache, which I've done through FireFox Options/Network/Clear Cache
