Preferred Solution: NEED THE CORRECT TYPE KEYBOARD PS2 TO USB ADAPTER/

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am assembling a system using a SV266AD M/B with an AMD Athlon XP 2400 CPU. The specs for the M/B indicate that it supports DDR SDRAM PC2100/PC1600. But what I have is identified as DDRAM 256MB PC3200 and the memory manufacturer specs say that a PC3200 is backward compatible with slower speeds.

My problem is that when I power up I get no activity other than the fans. Im using an old graphics card from a K6 system that was working ok but the monitor doesnt come out of standby. Could an under rated power supply be the problem, I'm using a 250W? Can anyone help?

Thanks, Bob

Answer:Correct memory type

The power supply is a destinct possibility. And if your MB is a newer one, it may not work properly with an AGP 2X card. Which is what I believe you will discover your Grapics card to be if it is AGP. If it is a PCI Graphics card then it should work. As far as Ram the pc3200 should work on your system. However it will only run at the fastest speed the Mobo will allow.

Hello,

I have 3 PCs at my residence right now.. (all with win7 Pro) (ESET SMART SECURITY installed) .
All of them connected to a 8port switch (wired connections). My ADSL modem is connected via LAN cable to the same SWITCH (so all the PCs share the same internet modem directly)

Now while sharing my files over LAN,what network type should i select ? HOME , WORK or PUBLIC ?
(PUBLIC options says that if you do not reco. all the PCs, select this option..so if my Broadband is connected to the PC directly,is that a PUBLIC network?)

best wishes

Answer:What will be my correct network type ?

Hello Inwell,

Since they are all home PCs, creating a HomeGroup on one of the PCs, then have the other PCs join the HomeGroup may work best to allow them to share files with each other.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

I am "attempting" to salvage a laptop (Toshiba Satellite P15-S479) and I need to purchase a hard drive.

I believe I need to know whether it takes an "SATA" or an "IDE" type please?

I really don't know much at all about this stuff - but I seem to be able to swap-out parts well-enough.

Thanks in advance (any links, advice, etc. to a good place to buy from would be greatly appreciated!).

Answer:Need Correct type of HD for Toshiba/Laptop

Okay this looks quite promising:

http://www.sparepartswarehouse.com/ModelsSerialImg.htm#Toshiba for specific Model Number

http://www.irisvista.com/tech/laptops/Toshiba-Satellite-P10/remove-hard-drive.htm Guide for changing HDD

Bingo I got it:
http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/...r=P15-S479&selCategory=3&selFamily=1073768663

Goto Detailed Specs tab and about 1/2 down first column you will see the Mass Storage Device is a Enhanced IDE (ATA-5) interface 5400 RPM

That should have all of the info you need.

I'm planning to add some ram to my w510. Over another forum I've read that 4 dimms can cause trouble, ie kingstons ram didn't work for one user (with ll 4 slots filled). My w510 had 2 Elpida 2GB 8500 dimms installed so I guess I am looking for ddr3 1066 mhz cl7 memory, right? Another thing is how does actually dual channel work with 4 slots? Do I have to add 2 dimms of the same type so all 4 match? or perhaps is 2+2 and only each to have to match? It is also strange where to put each dimms. It would seem that two installed dimms should work together (there are in slots under the keyboard) but CPU-Z shows ram in slots #1 and #3 and that they are NOT running dual channel. Is something wrong or it is just software error? I would be glad if someone could shed some light on this. The new ram will cost around $100 total and I only want to pay once =)

Hi Everyone,How are you all doing? I get so confused at times with what is the correct ways to write/type things out. Like how many of certain characters and punctuations we need to put. For example, in the address bar it will begin with maybe having one slash between com and loaderhttp://mci2.webkinz.com/loader4.php?go=loa...;aol=0&fs=0But then later on, it will have even more slashes, like this http://mci2.webkinz.com///loader4.php?go=l...;aol=0&fs=0So, as you can see it keeps changing, and sometimes will have even more than 3 slashes, just keeps changing. The other thing I keep getting confused about is extensions. I thought extensions come after the period . But sometimes I keep seeing like for the css extension, I would think it would be typed like this .cssbut sometimes I see it like this /cssSo, with a slash before it, and same with the html extension. Some people seem to be putting a slash before the html.I also sometimes not sure what parts are considered a tag or not. Like some people have things typed as if they were an attribute. See, I thought that the very first thing you have typed after the(meaning to the right of) < is considered the tag. But some people keep referring to it as an attribute. They say the style attribute. but they have <style>To be an attribute I would have thought like this <p style="italics">Here are the things that I have read: "Attributes are always specified in the start tag""Attributes come... Hello Amy.A web site address can contain any number of slashes and dots and ampersands as it likes. Its not in your control. Its the web site host and web site developer, who make it look that way. Imagine the addresses of houses. Is there any hard and fast rule in street addresses? Address in UK look strange to me, look at their ZIP(PIN) codes. Same goes for the web site addresses. You have to go with the flow.style can be an attribute and tag both, depends on how you use it. If you do not use a separate CSS file then you can specifiy the style of all the objects inside the <style></style> tags between he <head></head> tags. For examples, <html>
<head>
<style>
body{font-family:arial;font-size:1in;}
</style>
</head>
<body>
</body>
</html>But you can also specify style of an individual object using the style attribute. For example,<p style="font-family:arial;font-size:16px;"></p>If you do not know why or how an email address can be put inside the angle brackets then you need to learn little HTML If you software is messing up. I let my EliteBook 8440p go into standby. When I press the start button to wake it up it goes into the normal User/Password screen. The user field is already displayed correctly but when I type in the correct password it does not allow login. Here is the wierd part. When I try to re-enter the user name correctly I get some numbers where letters should have been. For example when I hit the "u" button, it comes up as "2" in the field. I assume that this is what is happening to my password text as well. Since I can not type in the user or password correctly I am forced into a hard reboot and can lose any unsaved info that I was working on. What is going on???

I received a replacement motherboard for my A55 and updated the BIOS to current.  THEN I realized the MTM and SN are showing INVALID.  So I'd like to push the correct MTM and SN back to the BIOS.  This is mainly because when I do a ThinkVantage System Update, I won't have to fill in the MTM because currently it is blank. I tried to re-update the BIOS with the latest revision, putting in the MTM and SN, but it refuses to update the BIOS since it is the same version now. I tried going to an older revision but it refuses to update to an older revision. What can I do to get my MTM and SN pushed back to the BIOS?  My OS = WXP Pro.

Answer:How To Correct The Machine-Type-Model & SN In BIOS

Well I figured out what I was doing wrong. The fact is, you CAN update the MTM & SN using the WinPhlash BIOS update utility.  If you've already flashed your BIOS to current, all you have to do is tell WinPhlash to update the DMI only, and put in the MTM & SN.  It works.

Hello, thanks for taking time to look at my post.

I'm planning to build a gaming PC that will allow me to run some of the newer titles, nothing fancy.
First off, how much ram do I really need? Will 8GB be okay or should I consider 16GB?
Also, how much will the speed affect my performance? What speed should I get? (keeping in mind I'm working on a budget)

Again, thanks for looking at my post and thanks in advance for any help you can give.

Answer:Correct amount and type of ram to install in a mid range gaming build

8gb will be more than enough for gaming. Dont buy just one 8gb stick, get 2 4gb ones, as you basically double you bandwidth with dual channel memory.
Speed and games doesnt make a huge amount of difference, 1333mhz or 1600mhz will be fine in a gaming rig.
Just make sure you set the correct speed in the bios as with most mobos ive encountered they run all dimms at 1066mhz default, regardless of the speed.

Hello,Can you please tell me the correct Display Adapter for the Acer Aspire V3-574TG-749V laptop with Windows 10?This laptop I bought has options for two graphic adapters installed, to enable or disable using Device Manager, but neither work well.1.) Intel(R) HD Graphics 5500: has a lousy  distorted screen image but allows the projection to another monitor/television by the HDMI port.2.) NVIDIA Genforce 940M: has a good picture but doesn't allow HDMI to TV and no "sleep" capability. I don't know if these came with the laptop from the factory when I bought it last February 2016.Can you please let me know which Display Adapter is recommended for this particular laptop and where I can download it to install on to this laptop?Thank you, -Andy D.

I would prefer the NVIDA graphics card because it's performance compared to Intel's. If you're a gamer or you do video editing than you should just use the 940m, but it just depends on what you use it for. If you just browse on the internet, or watch videos than you should use the HD 5500 card. NVIDIA:http://www.nvidia.ca/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us Intel:http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/graphics-drivers/000005629.html Good luck Andy!

When I got my last Dell Desktop (January, 2008) it did not have an HDMI (hdmi?) port.

Now, I have another monitor (with an hdmi port), and I have an hdmi cable (two cables, actually), but cannot connect the monitor via hdmi.

Can anyone tell me if this (*link below) would be the correct adapter (all four ends of my two cables are male):

This is a common problem (I see lots of posts)
The problem source is the [Dell] AC adapter.  PA-21 Family, 65W, P/N: NX061.  It is made in China.
I have an XPS M1330.  Using Dell after warranty service, replaced the Mother Board twice, replaced the battery twice, replaced the AC adapter twice - not fixing it.
Turns out the power warning message is very informative.  It states "Please connect a Dell 65W AC adapter or greater for best system performance".  So, I plugged in my Dell 95W adapter - WOW Problem Solved.
A lab test of my new Dell 65W AC adapter shows it to be 64.6 watts.  If this unit gets hot (like after several hours of use), it may not put out the full 65 watts - the system may not recognize the adapter, it may power the system ok, but won't charge the battery.
These units burn out after only a few months of use. Their cables are too fragile. If Dell's or their supplier's Quality Control can't produce a reliable 65W product - I found seveal "Made In USA" universal adapters.

Answer:AC Adapter - Alert - "AC power adapter wattage and type cannot be determined"

Well my solution was simple.
I just removed the battery pack and powered up my notebook. Then I turned off the notebook replaced the battery pack and VOILA. The error message was gone.

My son has a Dell Inspiron running Windows Vista. His computer was fine and he made no changes to it whatsoever. He came to me very upset claiming that his keyboard was not working properly.
I took a look at it and sure enough, it will not type the following letters:c,h,l,t, ***U,v. Since his password contained the letter "L," once he logged out he was no longer able to log back in.
He asked me to reinstall his operating system. I have done so, except now I'm on the screen where it asks me to type a username and password - and guess what? It still won't type those letters! I even tried the virtual keyboard - it will not type those letters using it either. However, when you press the "U" key (whether on the keyboard or the virutal keyboard) a window pops up titled: Ease of Access, and it gives me the option of hearing text onscreen, making items larger, etc.
I cannot even begin to imagine how to fix this. Please, if any of you know what to do, help me please??

Answer:Both laptop keyboard and virtual keyboard will not type certain letters

OMG! I have to add this additional information:
I just accidentally pressed the "shift" key when I tried to type an "L." It typed the "L!!" But it still will not type a lower case "L." When I press the "Caps Lock" key, it has no effect - it still will not type the letter L. This is the case with all of the above noted letters. All of them will type only if I press the "shift" key.

I bought a Canon Powershot A510 digital camera, and want to use a "universal" ac adapter I have (it provides the correct voltage, and has the proper connector). Unfortunately, the camera isn't marked -- as most are -- as to the correct polarity of the input plug.

I contacted Canon, but they refuse to reveal that information. (Yeah, doesn't make any sense to me either!)

So I have 2 questions:

First, any ideas how I can determine what polarity the camera requires?
And, does it really matter if I supply the reverse polarity? What will happen? Will it just not work, or do I risk damaging the camera?

Anyone who has the Canon ACK800 adapter can easily determine what the output polarity is. I even tried to find an ACK800 in a store, thinking I could just check it out with a voltmeter, but they're only available online or by mail.

Can somebody please help. Thank you all.

Answer:What is the correct polarity of the ac adapter for a Canon Powershot A510 camera?

i have searched around for this on/off over last few days and cannot find an answer on the web - You are going to need someone to put a volmeter on the powersupply and see what polarity it is.

Well, despite what you have done, that is where the settings are.

They are deeply buried there, its not just a matter of setting the region you have to actually add the UK keyboard under installed services on the Language - Settings tab and probably reboot.

That looks like the correct drivers. The problem is the keyboard. Replace the keyboard. I had to do that on an Acer laptop a couple of years ago. Not too big of a job.

Hi Everyone - I have some keyboard issues, specifically the HotKey's no longer work so I went to my device manager and saw that it lists my keyboard as a "Llenovo Thinkpad PS/2 Keyboard" for my Sony Vaio Laptop, Model # SVT13118FXS.

Im almost positive this is not the keyboard I had prior to the upgrade and pulling the Hardware ID gave me nothing I understood. I have been all over the Sony site and I can't find the answer.

How can I be certain the correct keyboard is listed? If its not a Lenovo - this would explain why their hotkey update did not work.

How can I be certain i have the correct keyboard so I can go find the driver to restore the hotkeys?

Here is all I get from the specs:

Thanks.

Hi, Want to replace my T420 (U.S.) keyboard, and the online documentation lists three FRU's: 45N2071 (IBM parts doesn't know about it)45N2141 (IBM parts has it, $60)45N2211 (IBM parts has it, $72) I'm a little bit lost.  Questions: a)Why does Lenovo list three distinct FRU numbers for a U.S. keyboard? b)What is the difference between the latter two above, and why do they have different prices? c)What is the "right" part number to get a replacement keyboard for my T420? Thanks, Dave.

Answer:What is the Correct T420 U.S. Keyboard FRU Number?

Any will work. Lenovo uses 3 suppliers to provide keyboards. I tend to look for whatever one is cheapest. BTW, T410, T420, T510, T520 and some others all use the same keyboard

My Keyboard will all of a sudden start typing a different character when doing an Internet Search. If I go to word or other program the keyboard works fine. If I restart the computer the keyboard will once again start working property, but after a day or two it will once again start typing incorrectly for both firefox and IE.

I do not think it is a hardware issue being it types fine in programs such as Word. I have CG installed. I am not sure if this is malware or something else. I tried hitting NumLk but that did nothing.

Any suggestion on what to do next time this happens.

A while back I bought a MS Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000. Fine. Works, suits my needs. The only problem was that my keyboard and (Logitech USB mx610 cordless) mouse were not recognized when I used an Acronis rescue disk. I updated the bios on the board (badly needed...F3 to F11) and all was well.

To get into the bios, I had to plug in an old PS/2 keyboard, even though all the appropriate USB settings were set to allow the keyboard to work in 'DOS' mode. So, the bios is updated, my Acronis issues are resolved, but wierdly enough, I was able to get in the bios yesterday with the USB keyboard, but not today.
All the appropriate settings are still enabled (i.e., USB 1.0
Controller:Enabled, USB 2.0 Controller:Enabled, USB Keyboard
Support:Enabled, USB Mouse Support:Enabled. There is no USB Legacy Support setting, but according to Gigabyte, the Keyboard & Mouse Support settings cover that (and then there's the fact that the keyboard works in Acronis Rescue mode).
I have changed some of the settings, but none that should prevent the
keyboard from being recognized in 'DOS' (I think).
Any ideas? It's be nice not to have to plug in a PS/2 board everytime I
wanted to get into the bios.

Sorry if formatting is off...copied and pasted from a usenet post that wouldn't show up.

Thanks for any ideas,
James

Answer:USB Keyboard & BIOS Even With Correct Settings

That "USB keyboard support" is the setting you need to have enabled. If it is....you may try a new port. If that does not work you may try the latest bios. If you have the latest bios, you may try using the front panel USB or changing ports for the front panel and the keyboard in different combinations.

I just got a new P55 board and had the same issue but a flash cured it.

I would try a different port or mobo header if you have not done it already.

Good luck!!

I had to replace the power cord (from the outlet to the box) on my AC adapter. It worked fine for awhile; but now I'm getting this message on boot up. "Warning. The AC adapter type cannot be determined. This will prevent optimal system performance. Please check AC adapter is connected properly. Remove AC adapter and plug it in again." I tried plugging it in again several times to no avail. Then my virus program (Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security 14) popped up a window to start in Safe Mode to fix the problem. I know how to start in Safe Mode but don't know what to do once I'm in there. Any help will be appreciated.

I am planning on making this project myself but first I have one question. Here is the project I will be making:
http://siliconrepublic.blogspot.com.au/2011/02/arduino-based-pc-ambient-lighting.html

It says I need a 12V DC supply for powering the breadboard. When searching up for 12V DC supplies, I only get power supply's that plug into the wrong wall socket (I live in Australia).
Do I need to get something like the article suggests:
http://www.amazon.com/Garmin-AC-Veh...1KZ6/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1297231222&sr=8-2

Or can I get something such as this:
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/DC-12V-1...?pt=AU_Laptop_Accessories&hash=item336678ae52
If the first option is the only possibility, how do I get the plug to go into my wall socket?
Also, how do I get the other end plugged into the breadboard when the product just has a single plug on the end?

Answer:What type of power adapter do I need?

You can use the Ebay adaptor, the easiest way to get 2 wires is to get a socket that fits the plug, like this one :- http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/5-5-x-2-...05?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_15&hash=item4167b5b34d and solder 2 wires to that socket.

The circuit at your link uses a 2 wire plug into the breadboard, you would have to get a similar plug OR you could push bare wires into the breadboard.

OR you could cut the plug off to reveal the 2 wires but they will probably be quite thin and may not connect well if pushed into the breadboard holes.

Hey forums. I've been using Windows phone for about 6 months and I came from android. One thing I miss about android was the aggressiveness of the autocorrect on the keyboard. Is there a way to change this on windows phone? Android used to have under settings and keyboard options how aggressive it was (moderate, aggressive, etc) there isn't a setting like that on windows phone. That's one thing is miss about android. ie: I type in keybord but it doesn't autocorrect it to keyboard. I'm using a Lumia Icon runnng 8.1 update 1.

Answer:Windows Phone keyboard auto correct

What do you mean it is not auto correcting?
It is probably because you have either added the words to dictionary or kept making typos (it learns your habits, keep doing something frequently and it won't auto correct that miss spelt word as it will start to think it was intentional, - to reset all words added to the dictionary manually or automatically, go to keyboard under settings --> click on advance --> reset suggestions). When I first got my phone, one of first things I did was test out the keyboard I deliberately made typos constantly and after awhile it stopped auto correcting those typos.
I have been using Wp8 for almost two years and I can tell you hands down word flow is the best one out of everything I have used (I have used iphones, windows mobile phones, android, blackberry physical & touch keyboards). Plus it is aggressive (but not overly aggressive) and context sensitive. Shape writing is the icing on the cake, this is similar to swype on android.

So, my computer has been screwed up for quite some time now, and I thought I might remedy the situation by doing a repair install of windows XP. I managed to get my hands on a slipstreamed SP3 CD today, and let windows do its thing. However, when the time came to enter in my XP key, I could not use my keyboard, which is the same problem i had before i repaired windows.

Back when I first had this problem, I read online that I might need to flash the bios to correct it. The fact that I still have the problem after repairing windows seems to point to this as well. I've been trying to flash the bios (A8V deluxe mobo) with afudos, and i get the message: "ROM file ROMID is not compatible with existing BIOS ROMID" I've used both the newest and oldest ROMs available from asus to no avail. I can't use the asus auto updater, because my windows install still needs the XP key to finish. My computer is basically stuck until I can resolve this keyboard issue.

Hi,

have just re-installed tecra s1 from scratch. i do not have the original toshiba disc anymore so installed an ordinary version of windows xp.

i need to know how to set the keyboard to match the specific tecra s1 keyboard layout. i do not recognize this layout and have tried a selection of different layouts but they do not match. is there a different layout that needs to be downloaded or what is procedure?

i am a strong pc user so i will understand even a complicated procedure.

i need to resolve this ASAP.

thanks,
martin.

Answer:Selecting correct keyboard layout on Tecra S1

Hello

I am very interested about your question but can you give us more information or maybe some example.

I don?t know in which country you live and if the unit is bought in your country. If the unit is bought in Italy the keyboard and OS are designed for this country and everything must work properly.

If the ordinary version of WXP (language) is the same with keyboard layout there should not be any problem.

I am getting this error message. My battery is not charging. And it is clocking my cpu speed to 0.5 GHz. I heard that there is a pin in the DC jack that tells a chip on the computer to tell the computer that the AC adapter is not suitable (whether damage or low wattage). I'm wondering if there is a way to disable the chip and just use it at full speed, I don't really need a battery because I'm mainly on AC use anyways.

Answer:The wattage and type of the AC adapter cannot be determined

Mine will do that if the plug is not all the way in.  It has happened to me twice now and I would have thought it would take more than 1/16th of an inch to cause the situation.
Sorry I don't know of a way to bypass this check.

Hi!

Awhile ago, I started getting this error message when I started up my computer (after the initial Dell screen). It stated:

The AC adapter type cannot be determined. This will prevent optimal system performance.

Strike the F3 key (before the F1 or F2 key) if you do not want to see power warning messages again.

Strike the F1 key to continue, F2 to run the set up utility.

-----

I ignored this problem for awhile by just hitting F1. However, within the last month, it has gotten worse. Instead of this error message coming up when I started my computer - after the initial Dell screen, nothing would come up except a little flashing line in the top left hand corner of the screen, and the computer would not start up passed that. I proceeded to fiddle with the plug that I plug into my laptop from adapter. I would push it harder into the laptop and/or twist it in after I hit the start up button, waiting to see if, after the initial Dell screen, I could get the error message to come up again so I could hit F1 so my computer would actually start up. I really don't know if any of that helped, but I figure if it was the adapter, then I should try something like that. I even blew it the plug and into the socket in the laptop tonight. However, tonight, I almost could not get the computer to start up all the way - I kept getting the screen with the little blinking line after the initial Dell screen and no error message. Eventually, after trying several times, I did get the error ... Read more

Since you've tried a new Dell adapter to no effect, next suspect is the DC jack -- replace this part:

So.. I see this problem has been posted about before, so I just wanna know what my options are.
This problem actually popped up on me a few months ago, but I was able to remove and insert the power cord a few times and the message would go away and I would be able to charge my battery. But as a month or two passed, it became more finicky, and I had to jiggle with it a little more, but still, I was able to charge my battery and use my laptop wire-free.
Now today, I've been trying all day, and cannot for the life of me get the battery to charge. I get the following message when I plug the wire in.
"The AC power adapter type cannot be determined. Your system will operate slower and the battery will not charge. Please connect a Dell 65W AC adapter or higher for best system operation."
Also, I think its worth nothing that a lot of people mention that this error message comes up while they are booting their Laptops, mine only comes up once Vista is loaded and I attempt to reinsert the cord.
So, I have tried another Dell charger, a 90W one, and the same problem does occur (My original is a 65W). I am planning on getting a different battery tomorrow to see if it is the battery, as this ones usable life was getting quite low, down to barely a half hour per full charge. My warranty, although I'm not sure of the specifics, was not expired when this problem first came up, but is now expired by I would say 2 months at the most.

just setup another notebook with 8 - this is an older HP dv6244us - core 2, pretty plain system.
no matter what I'm typing in... notepad, wordpad, browsers... here in this right now... I get this odd hesitation and then catchup, sometimes garbling my keystrokes [the characters are plain, but acts like 'predictive']
the feel is similar to that awful Google read-ahead "instant" function.

is this some bright idea in 8 or just a weak driver/device linkage?

also the trackpad is WAY sensitive... if anyone has ideas. I have touchfreeze installed but it can't contend with this one. seems a puff of air is all it takes

Answer:IS MS experimenting with some sort of keyboard auto-correct thingy?

I have not experienced anything like that nor have I see any posts on that particular problem, but I've only been a member since early June. The only thing I've noticed is sometimes the typing cursor stops blinking, but when typing begins it starts blinking again. There is a global spell check in 8 (curser within the misspelled word then press shift/F10). I don't think that has anything to do with your problem. It is older machine. Did all the drivers load correctly? Check in device manager? When was the machine used last? Perhaps some or all of the keys are a little sticky mechanically? Try typing each key individually and watch to see if that may be it. Have you performed a forum search on the subject?

I can't help on the trackpad problem for I don't have one, but that sounds like a driver problem. There is a way to use the compatibility mode for drivers.

Ok, I have read through these forums, and others, and have been unable to resolve this issue after trying like a million things. Here's my issue:
This is on a Dell Inspiron N4030 running Windows 8 Pro with Bios Revision A07.
On boot-up I get this message:
"The AC power adapter wattage and type cannot be determined.
The battery may not charge.
The system will adjust the performance to match the power available.
Please connect a Dell 65W AC adapter or greater for the best system performance.
Strike the F3 key (before F1 or F2 key) if you do not want to see this power warning message again.
Strike the F1 key to continue, F2 to run the setup utility."

If I strike F2 and go into the bios it says "AC adapter type    unknown"
If I strike F1 to continue boot-up it boots into windows and then the battery indicator shows "Plugged in, Not charging"

In attempting to fix this issue I have:

1. Replaced the battery.
2. Replaced the motherboard
3. Replaced the Power Board
4. Swapped out the adapter with several other Dell adapters we have in the house (we have 6 Dell laptops). Adapter revisions used are A00, A01, and A02.
5. Did the whole rigamarole here: http://jeffreypalermo.com/blog/plugged-in-not-charging-windows-7-solution/

According to my friend who builds computer, he said it's suppose to be superior differences between those 2 graphic cards. I also tried to sign up for BETA profile for Blizzard game series and apparently it kept detecting the Radeon HD 4200, which is my integrated card. Anyways, my question is, how can I change my Adapter Type? I posted a picture of it so you guys can see what's my problem is. I have the latest Catalyst Control Panel from the sites sticky thread .

I don't know how to check my computer stuff, so here's my computer on website: HP - Pavilion Desktop / AMD Athlon™ II Processor / 4GB Memory / 750GB Hard Drive - p6654y

My english is my second language so if you can't understand what I said I'll be glad to explain again lol. Rough draft xD.

I've already tried Driver Sweeper, failed on me .

I don't know what BIOS means either lol.

If my integrated graphic card is disabled for good, I think I might get to see my 6770's full performance. Also tried overclocking, didn't helped at all :[. I still think it's my integrated card's problem, but hey I could be wrong. I'm terrible at computers .

Thanks.

Answer:Changing a video card adapter type help.

Assuming HP didn't hide the option in the bios (and I wouldn't put it past them), have a good look around likely in the Advanced section under Chipset. If it is don't disable it quite yet, first boot back to Windows and uninstall the AMD driver through Programs and Features using the Catalyst Install Manager. Then restart and go into the bios and disable, and re-install the AMD driver using the latest,

Latest AMD Catalyst Video Driver for Windows 7

unless that is the one you already have.

P.S. What you're seeing shouldn't happen, but with the way HP likes to hide/disable/monkey around in general with bios settings I'm not really surprised that it did. When it works properly (the AMD onboard video with an AMD video card) you can actually use both at the same time for running up to 4 (or 5 depending on video card) monitors at a time.

Is there a way for a Windows 10 firewall rule to determine what network adapter is in use? Can it differentiate between Wi-Fi, TAP, Ethernet, etc.?
Poking around Windows Firewall for the first time, I don't see any settings related to network adapter, but I wonder if the "local IP address" settings could be useful. Would the different adapters show up as different local IP addresses, in some way that is consistent enough to make a rule out of it?

I have a Yoga Pro 3 I purchased here in the US a couple of months ago.  This summer I'll be moving to Moldova (eastern Europe) with the Peace Corps and plan to take my Yoga with me. Moldova has 220-240V Type C power outlets.  Ideally, I'd like to purchase a power adapter for my Yoga that is already configured with a Type C plug.  The US Lenovo customer service staff can't seem to tell me if I can buy one. I know Germany also uses Type C but I don't see the option to buy the 40W power adapter on their site. The below adapter is available on the UK site but I'm not sure UK adapters are compatible with Type C outlets:http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/gbweb/LenovoPortal/en_GB/catalog.workflow:item.detai... Does anyone out there who travels to Europe or owns a Yoga Pro 3 in Europe have any tips on buying a native adapter?  If I need to use a convertor I will... I'm just trying to cut down on the accessories I have to carry with me.

I have fully upgraded windows 10 and all the latest drivers from Acer support pages installed to my Aspire S5-371.When I'm trying to connect a display into type-c USB-port using a type-c/HDMI adapter, windows shows an error message "Display connection is limited" and by clicking it, it opens following web site: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/mt628692(v=vs.85).aspx#_5 I tried 2 different type-c/HDMI adapters with same results. Does my new laptop support dual display at all?

Answer:S5-371 dual display issue with type-c adapter

The end of the M$ note says "The hardware and software on the system, the device or adapter, or cable does not support the DisplayPort /DockPort or MHL alternate modes." Now since a regular USB port works (2.0 even) for DisplayPort that leaves MHL. Maybe you need one of these.

My Dell Inspiron 6400 HDD damaged without any warning last week and cannot be repaired, so i had to replace it with another HDD. Everything works fine after that except that when i plugged in my AC adapter, the power warning message &#8220;The AC power adapter type cannot be determined. Your system will operate slower and the battery will not charge. Please connect a Dell 65W AC adapter or higher for best system operation" will appear, and my battery will not charge.

Previously this power warning message will occur only when i didn't plug in properly and it worked fine after i replug the adapter. Since i changed my HDD, this warning message appears everytime i turn on my laptop. I tried updating the BIOS but it doesn't help, the problem is still there. I suspect that my AC adapter is damaged but when i tried it with another Inspiron 6400, it worked fine without the warning message appearing, that shows that there isn't any problem with my AC adapter..

Any solutions for this? I hope i don't have to change the motherboard or whatsoever, because my laptop is out of warranty. Is it something to do with the configuration? - since i formatted my computer and reinstalled everything..

thanks heaps for any comments!

Answer:Power adapter type cannot be determined after replacing new HDD

You may have a damaged DC jack in the laptop if the adapter works on another laptop, which would go with you replugging the power adapter to clear the error in the past. Its not uncommon for the jacks to break from the motherboard and require re-soldering, in some cases the jacks crack or break and need to replaced. To get at the jack you will need to have the laptop completely disassembled.

P.S. 'spoiled' isn't not the correct term to use with failed electronics.

Hi,
I'm using an XPS 13 9350, and 'm currently having an issue whereby when I start up my laptop I'm receiving the error message.
"AC power adapter and type cannot be determined, the battery may mot charge, the system will adjust the performance to match the power available"
The laptop sticks at 1% and wont charge. Although the light is still on the adapter, the light does not appear at the front of the laptop where it would usually indicate charging, apart from occasionally brief moments before the laptop boots following pressing the on button.
I have forced the latest BIOS update past the 10% battery block, however this has not helped.
I've had the laptop and adapter roughly a year.
Any assistance would be much appreciated.

Answer:Dell XPS 13 9350 - AC power adapter and type could not be determined

If "roughly" is less than a year, call Dell for warranty repair.
If it's over a year, first thing to try is a new OEM Dell AC adapter -- most computer shops should have one you can try.  If that fixes it, replace the AC adapter.  If not, replace the DC power jack:
www.newegg.com/.../Product.aspx
And if that doesn't solve it, it's the charge circuit itself that's bad -- replace the mainboard.

Hello, from few days a have problem with my AC power adapter. My system says: "The AC power adapter type cannot be determined... lalalala" when my Windows says Plugged in, not charging. CPU performance does not exceed 0,78GHz.I tried to uninstall the drivers - nothing.
I tried update my BIOS - nothing.
Replace AC - nothing
Exclude malfunctioning AC adapter.
Sometimes after a few connections begins to charge my battery, and it is a day where you do not try to charge.
But I found a solution, which is always charge my battery.
when i turn off the system, and then pulled out the battery. I push the button 'power on' for 10 seconds. And then I put back the battery and plug the charger. I turn on the system and everything works.
But once again, disconnect and plug the charger that stops charging

Where is the problem?

Answer:The AC power adapter type cannot be determined. Inspiron 15 3542

Hi WLODZIAK,
Are you using an original Dell OEM Adapter? When you plug in the adapter to the system, does the adapter stay firm or does it fall off easily? Is the adapter frayed? Is there any damage on the system?
Restart the system and press f2 key to enter BIOS - check the adapter status in BIOS with and without the adapter plugged in. Also, wiggle the adapter cable at the end and see if the status changes in BIOS at any point. Check the battery health in BIOS (if applicable).
Restart the system and press f12 key on startup - choose diagnostics. Let it run the diags and if you encounter any errors - make a note of the complete error and report the same to us.These are onboard diagnostics and they might possible pick some error if the hardware is not functional.
Since you have replaced the adapter, if the battery has good health, then then next part to be replaced would be the dc port - you would need this part - http://bit.ly/2d2vuCc
If nothing works, the motherboard might be at fault.
If the system is under warranty, Please click my DELL-username and write me a private conversation with the service tag and your contact details(Name, Phone#, Address and Email). If there is no warranty, then you could contact our team to get a quote for a paid service call - http://dell.to/1vnT6CQ
Let us know if you have any other queries.

Hi! I don't know what's the cause of my problem and will be appreciated for any info.
Suddenly, I started getting this message, when I turn my laptop on. It won't recognize my AC adapter, and won't charge the battery.
I have Dell Inspiron 6400/1505, windows XP.
I tried to flash BIOS, took out and put back in the battery. Check the plug, it looks ok. Battery's LED lights show it works fine.
I saw that so many people have this problem, but did not find any ways to solve it. Or any reasons why it happened. If anybody knows what to do, please share with us regular PC users.

My Dell XPS 13 has recently been unable to recognize my AC adapter. I've tried several outlets and chargers, but to no avail. Once I plug the charger into the laptop, the charging light on my Dell lights up for a second but turns off immediately after.
I am unable to get past the Dell SupportAssist and it seems to be an endless loop that won't allow me into my desktop.
Would I be able to bypass the "AC Adapter Unknown" error by using Google's Pixel 2 charger? It would allow me to charge through Dell's USB-C port instead. Has anyone tried this method or has solved the issue in any other way?
Thanks for any help at all!

The Spectre x2 12 detachable is capable of charging through the two Type-C USB ports. The HP Type-C USB adapter charges using these two ports. However, no third party Type-C USB chargers (even with Power Delivery specifications) will charge this device. Meaning, there is no benefit to charging via Type-C since this device can only use the HP adapter charger. Another HP device that charges via Type-C USB, the Spectre 13.3 (HP Spectre 13-v151nr), received a BIOS update (F.26 Rev.A; sp77130.exe) in August that allows charging through third party Type C-USB chargers like Google and Apple chargers (see below in yellow;"- Expands support for the USB Type-C adaptor."). I am requesting a similar Type-C charging adapter BIOS update for the HP Spectre x2 - 12-a008nr, to remove the limitation described above. Not allowing to be charged through Type C chargers manufactured by Google and Apple is absurd. If you would please,  use the Power Delivery specifications that these reputable vendors use, and that you also used for the 13.3, and allow this device to truly be fantastic. Thank you! Below is the notes from the BIOS update for the 13.3:Fixes - Fixes an issue where certain keys generate the incorrect character when the keyboard on the system is used.- Fixes an issue where certain keys do not generate a character when the keyboard on the system is used.- Expands support for the USB Type-C adaptor.- Provides enhanced BIOS password security.- Provides enhance... Normally when you insert a pccard into the slot you should feel a slight resistance at the end. After that the ejection pin pops out. also a card should fit in there completely. Now if i test a working pccard (32 bits gold connector) in this r500, it can not fit it in there completely. Also there is no resistance or connection. It will slide in loosely and does not connect. The last centimeter of the card will not fit in the adapter. No new device is found. I tested this in linux as well in windows7. I conclude the physical connection  between the card and the adapter is not there. So perhaps this is a hardware flaw ? Or perhaps i am missing something obvious.if i look closely into the slot, i can see there is a metal pin at the left side deep inside the slot, wich blocks access to the connection pins. It prevents my cards from beeing inserted completely. * I wonder if anyone has found this same problem.* also has anyone found a normal userguide for his laptop ? (r500 2714) i can only find the Hardware maintenance and safetey manuals. Thanks for your responses.

Answer:r500 2714 pcmcia/cardbus type i/ii adapter does not work.

Aha, the metal pin blocking access is released when the grey releasebutton is in the 'ejected' state. Now i can fit the pccard type in there. (32 bit pcmcia) These have a gold plated connector on the card and has the word pccard on it.the old style 16 bit cards dont seem to fit. Maybe this info will help other users. Still i would like to see a r500 usermanual in wich i cold have read this * Does anyone know where to find the usermanual ? regards

Hi, It's been a couple of weeks since I bought my Thinkpad E570 (Product SKU 20H5CTO1WW). Since I live in Greece and the laptop is on its way to me (I had it delivered to a friend of mine in UK), I'd like to know what kind of ac adapter the laptop is equipped with. If it's universal (110/220V) then I suppose an adaptor from type G to type F plug would suffice, otherwise I will probably need a new ac adapter. So, can anyone help me with my question? I forgot to ask my friend about it, I just realized about the different power plugs today. Regards,Vas

Welcome to the forum.

> If it's universal (110/220V) then I suppose an adaptor from type G to type F plug would suffice

ThinkPad AC chargers are designed to work with input voltages from 110VAC to 240VAC so the charger that's shipped with your E570 will be just fine. If your new E570 was bought in the UK then yes, you'll need a G to F adapter to fit local power outlets.

I have an XPS 12 9250 with an external Dell Adapter USB Type C to HDMI/VGA/Ethernet/USB 470-ABQN.  This adapter is working for Ethernet and VGA, but the USB port is not working.  I suspect that I need the correct drivers installed.  When I plug in my windows phone or my android phone, both devices show that they are charging, but windows 10 does not indicate that it sees the devices.  If I plug in an external keyboard to the adapter's USB port, windows 10 does not react, and the keyboard lights do not come on (keyboard works fine on 2 other computers).
So, I'm pretty sure I've installed all the latest drivers that are listed on support.dell.com for the xps 12 9250, but it's hard to tell as there seem to be scores of them.
Is anyone else having this problem?  Can anyone tell me which specific drivers I need to get USB working?  Thank you

Iv recently encountered the dreaded Plugged-In not charging Error
Upon Boot
ALERT! AC power wattage and type cannot be determined. The battery may not charge. The system will adjust the performance to match the power available.
Iv come to the conclusion its the module that determines the adapter and wattage type.
As iv tested it with known working chargers and batteries.
Can anyone *** me with this knowledge or allow me to get a schematic for the mother board?

My keyboard does not let me input a key more than once. for example, if i am typing the word letter. it does not let me type in the 2nd t. the only way i could add the 2 letter is if i use an entirely diferent buton. but this is not only specific to leters. even the backspace key and space bar, i canot type seamlesly. you can se in this and the last sentance that every word that neds two of the same keys, it doesn't work. I have to use the curser afterwards to ad in the leter i ned. even the space bar and backspace key does not work twice in a row.

is this a hardware isue or is it somekind of software problem?

it's so anoying. i can't even type www. without takeing like 20 seconds. help please!

thanks!

Answer:keyboard does not let me type same key twice

Borrow another keyboard and try. That is the simplest way of narrowing it down.

Check your setting under Accessibility Options (or whatever XP calls it - I use Vista).

There are settings there to ignore repeated keystrokes.

Hi all,
I have bought a US keyboard and can figure out how to type the ? sign (she sign is on my 5 keyboard sign)
I am using windows 10 on PC

I have tried:
Shift+5 (gives %)Alt+Shift - give nothingAlt Gr -give nothingCTRL+Alt - also give nothing
Thanks in advance for your help

Answer:HOW to type EUR () in US keyboard

Hi there

Do you have a RIGHT Alt GR key (at the right of the spacebar) -- should work ??????? !!!! The left hand side one does nothing when you try the same thing. (Press AltGR + the 4 key I think - or it could be 3 as it needs to be the key where the $ sign is.

As a short term measure you can I believe define a User keyboard / custom layout in Windows but I'm not sure exactly how to do it --perhaps other people more experienced in multi- lang layouts could explain.

Cheers
