I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: beep beep beep pc beeps

It could be that your Pc is overheating. If it has been with you for a while then dust gets stuck in the heat sink of the procesor and on its fan this makes the fan go slow and that causes the overheating.Ifyou know a little about Pc then switch off the PC at the mains take off the side pannel of the tower and look on the mother board for a small fan, you could put a vacuumm close to the fan and this may take out the dust, if not you will need to take off the fan to clean the heat sink

Answer:RE: Dell Inspiron 15 - 3000 series - Beep Beep Beep Pause Beep Beep Beep

Hi Ganny,
What are the exact # of beeps in a cycle?
Kindly review this chart and see page# 47 - it will help isolate the source of the issue.
Based on the exact # of beeps, that part would need to be replaced.
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private message with the service tag and your Name for case records.
Let us know if you have any other queries.

Hi,
My laptop here is a Dell Inspiron 15, 3000 series.
The laptop itself works perfectly fine, I am able to get into windows (which I installed myself, it originally came with Ubuntu).
Occasionally though, it will do a BEEP BEEP BEEP PAUSE BEEP BEEP BEEP PAUSE (repeats).
This happens on boot and sometimes when I am using it. Sometimes it turns off suddenly when I am shifting the computer around. It's extremely loud.

What is causing this? The sound seems to be coming from around the area the Memory banks are under the laptop, but nothing seems to suggest that anything is wrong.
I took a suggestion and used FN+Power to do Hardware Diagnostics which said nothing is wrong.

What else can I try?

Thanks!

Answer:Dell Inspiron 15 - 3000 series - Beep Beep Beep Pause Beep Beep Beep

Hi,
I’d suggest that you follow the steps mentioned below and check if the beep pattern repeats.

Switch off the computer.
Disconnect the AC adapter from the system.
Remove the battery from the computer.
Press and hold down the power button for 15 seconds.
Then connect back all the peripherals and check if the beep pattern repeats and reply us with the beep count.

If you still receive 3 Beeps on the system then it indicates System board failure.. You will have to replace it on the laptop.
Please let me know the findings.

I understand that this means there is a system board error.  I have a very good reason to believe that the BIOS had an issue (when I checked it before this happened, it had 75 boot options listed and said the volitale memory was almost full). Question: can I somehow force the BIOS to reset itself?  Is there a pin short I can use for this? Of course I am 2 weeks out of warranty :/  I assume if I sent it in they would just charge for a boarsd swap... likely $500-$600 dollars. Thanks for any help!

Answer:X230 1 beep, 3 beep, 3 beep, 1 beep, no screen: can I reset the BIOS?

1-3-3-1 means no memory. If you have 2 DIMMs, try with just one, then just the other. When you try with just one DIMM, it needs to go into slot-0. When you have the machine sitting lid-down and the battery compartment away from you, slot-0 is the one on the right.

My X230 gets very little use since I bought it in 2012... sometimes no use at all for weeks at a time. Yet the system board failed, as did a replacement, and now the third board seems to have failed. On startup I get 1 beep, 3 beep, 3 beep, 1 beep and a blank screen. I tried the existing RAM stick in both slots: no startI bought and tried a NEW stick of RAM from Crucial in both slots: no startI tried both sticks in the slots at the same time: no start Other than another bad system board, what could it be? Where can I get a system board that might last? By the way, at the same time I bought the X230 I also bought a T530 that gets gallons of heavy use almost every day and never had a problem that I didn't cause myself.

Hi, I have been using the Y480 for almost 2 years. However, when I boot up this morning, it just beep beep beep continously. and the screen just have a cursor blinking. But after I reboot again and press F2 to enter bios, and then quit bios settings, the notebook can be boot up successfully. I have backup everything I need What should I do to fix the error? Is my harddisk gonna be failed? I have lost all the purchase receipts but I have registered 2 years ago. Thanks!Peter

Answer:Y480 continous beep beep beep during startup

Beeps are error messages from the Motherboard. Either the MOBO is failing or you have a problem with your RAM, I dont think it is related to your HDD, but you should create a backup. Also, if you don't have, please create recovery disks immediately. You may want to do more research depending on the BIOS manufacturer and the beep codes. You can google these terms and you should find information on the procedure to validate this. You can also try to re-seat the RAM, maybe it got a bit unsettled, if you moved the laptop. All in all, if you took the externded warranty and you are still under it, you may want to send the laptop to Lenovo for repairs.

I have two printers connected to a Dell E520 through Vista. They are a Brother 5440CN and a HP 6110xi. The .Brother works ok but I can't say the same for the HP. Clicking any button on the HP gives the same response. Beep, beep, beep. I have recently moved the system to a new location just a couple of feet from where it was. Before the move Brother would scan and copy and the HP would do the same, but now as noted I can't get any response out of it but beep, beep, beep

Anybody have any ideas??.

I have ThinkPad T500, 2241, CTO. Every time laptop boots, there is an annoying beep. It is not a beep sound that one might have when power status changes. Beep is off both in Power Manager and turned off in BIOS section of power management. Moreover, in device manager in non-plug and play list i disabled the BEEP. Still this annoying sound is there. BIOS is updated. However, there is no other section in BIOS where I can turn off the beep. Please help!Message Edited by Gordik on 03-22-2009 09:31 PM

Answer:T500 annoying beep!!! (cause is not battery power management and not BEEP in device manager)

Look through the bios again, there is a separate entry for beeps afaik. Did you look in the section where you can also set power mode beeps, keyboard beeps etc? I think its there, not 100% sure though.

Looks like no booting process is going on i checked with external monitor but no display on external monitor also.CPU fan is working for few seconds and stoped then a long beep and 2 short beep . when i am trying to stop the machine with poweroff button again one beep before poweroff. Pls sugguest me wht to do the next and what is the real problem . Moderator edit: Masked serial.

Answer:CPU fan is working for few seconds and stoped then a long beep and 2 short beep

Hello, Your reported T61 bios beep codes would indicate you have one of the following failures: System boardLCD assemblyDIMMThe DIMMS would be my first choice to test so, if you have more than one DIMM installed, try  try removing one of them and try to boot, if OK, you have removed the bad RAM; however, if the results are the same, remove the other DIMM and install the one you removed previously. If you can boot OK now, you have isolated the bad RAM. Now, if you can't boot with either stick, then, I guess the RAM is not the problem (unless you have two bad sticks and I doubt that). See the  Memory Removal and Installation Guide for more information. Good luck!

Answer:Compaq bios freeze short beep long beep

Is the beep pattern just one short one long? Check your manual for the POST beep codes to determine what it is telling you. All POST beep codes are different so there's no way to tell unless we know exact model of your PC. The manual usually has the beep code in it, though.

Hi guys,

I have an Asus Z97A Motherboard/GTX 1080/24GB DDR3Gskill/ 500 GB SSD + 1to HDD and recently when i boot my PC i hear 1 long beep then quickly after 3 short beep.. I've searched in Asus website about the meaning of these beep and it's written that it's a Video card faulty..

But well just after these beep my pc is booting well ! and video card working well too, i've no problem playing games.

The strange thing also is that it's making these beep like 1 time every 2 or 3 days as i shut down my pc every night and when i'm going to work.

Do you have an idea of what i can do ??

EDIT : And by the way here's what i tried,

-Disable integrated graphic
-Clear CMOS
-Update Nvidia driver

Answer:1 Long beep + 3 short beep Asus motherboard

A few times now my E5440 will give a low beep... then a few seconds go by, and another beep.  It just happened a minute ago - only two beeps this time.  But I think it happened a few days ago and beeped several times with the same pause of a few/several seconds in between the beeps.  It's so quiet that before I've thought I was imagining it.  But this time I was sitting in front of it typing.
There are no pop-up notifications on the screen anything is wrong, such as the 'disconnection' sound when you remove a portable HDD, or your Wi-Fi disconnects.  Nothing to indicate what the beeps mean.  The laptop is working perfectly.  Battery is fully charged.  I can hear the fan turning and changing speed but it's 2:30am here with no outside noise and I can barely hear the fan.  (I assume it would be spinning up like crazy if something were overheating.)
I'm at a loss what it means.  Does anyone know?
I'm running Windows 7 Pro 64-Bit if that matters.

My computer has been making this noise for quite some time now. but it would only happen once every few days so it didn't really concern me until now because its happening non stop. The noise is definitely coming from system sounds. I'm not sure if this is related but under device manager there is an unknown device which i cannot account for as i put the computer together and I'm staring in to the case rite now. there is also a yellow icon by teredo tunneling pseudo-interface (i have no idea what that is)lately my computer just seems to be working really hard when idling. the cpu is constantly spiking up to 100% usage and my hard drives seem to constantly be spinning. specscpu: intel core 2 duomobo: abit ab9ram: 1gb ddr2gfx: geforce 9800 gtx+hd: 2 seagate internal drives (1 with os) the other blank for storage. In my mind there are two possibilities. 1 i have some sort of virus. 2 some hardware is malfunctioning. either way i have no idea where to start and i was hoping someone could point me in the rite direction. Thank You!

Answer:Beep beep from Qosmio X770 speakers

To be honest I?ve never heard about such issue and really don't know why this happen but if this issue happens from the first day I think you should contact your local dealer or nearest Toshiba service provider directly and ask for help.

Generally speaking preinstalled recovery image and all installed drivers are tested so I cannot imagine it is some software related issue. Contact service and ask for help. Hey should check this and fix it. valid warranty will cover all costs.

I tried installing an MSI Radeon HD 6450 2GB Pci express x16 video card. Once hooked up, I boot up and computer beeps, from what I can tell 1 or 2 long beeps, 8 short beeps. I was running built in 128m video so I disabled that in the Bios, but that didn't do it.

I noticed the Video card manuf. recommends minimum 400W PS, my rig only has a 300W PS. Would that really affect my upgrade or am I barking up the wrong tree. I don't want to fork over for a new PS unless it' warented. Thanks a bunch.

Answer:2G Graphics card upgrade...Beep! beep!

It's possible you need a new PSU.

The TDP on that card is only 27 Watts and it doesn't require a hook up so I would think your current PSU could maybe support but I wouldn't risk it. There is also the possibility that the motherboard you have isn't providing enough power to the card.

You could try to re-seat the card or clean out the PCI express slot and see if that helps.

Hi,

I am trying to help with a Dell Inspiron 5100.
The computer was running very slow and I've made a bit of progress resolving that. I think it needs some more RAM and I'm not sure if that could be at all related to the following.
The problem now is that after running for few hours, then shutting down, then trying to turn back on:
1. light comes on indicating computer is on
2. the computer makes 2 beeps
3. wait...black screen
4. wait...black screen
5. and so on

This does not happen everytime trying to start the computer so I'm really at a loss. I've read about overheating in this model which would seem to make sense but sometimes this will happen after the computer has been off for a day or so.

At a complete loss now.

Any assistance much appreciated!

Answer:One short beep, one long beep

Is it possible you are hearing 1 long - one short?
That might indicate a BIOS CHECKSUM error, depending on the brand of BIOS.

You can try a ClearCMOS procedure (CLRTC is the same thing):
Note all your current BIOS settings
Shut down the computer > remove the power cord.
Remove the 3v motherboard battery.
Move the CLRTC jumper from pins 1-2 to 2-3.
Touch a metal part of the case and Press and Hold the reset button for approx. 30 seconds to discharge all power from the board.
Put the CLRTC jumper back on pins 1-2.
Replace the 3v battery > replace the power cord > boot.
Immediately go back into BIOS and reset all your preferred settings. If the CLRTC worked you will need to reset the date and time.

Hi, Today I replaced my old graphics card with a new GeForce 9500GT and also added a new Kingston 2GB Ram Card. I installed both of them then restarted the computer, since then it has only powered on and playing 1 short beep then 1 long beep. I've tryed everything I can think of ranging from taking out everything new and putting it back to before I added the new items to completely taking out all 3 RAM sticks and reseating them. I'm not sure how a brand new unopened 2GB ram stick that fit perfectly and a brand new right out of the box graphics card can cause a problem like this. I've been through the ins and outs of the internet trying to find a solution but nothing has worked. Hoping someone can think of a unique way to fix this or how it could have possibly happened in the first place. I dont buy anything used everything placed inside my computer was/is brand new when it was purchased. Any help/comments on solutions would be greatly appreciated thanks.

Good afternoon,I'm having trouble with my windows vista computer.  When I start it up, nothing appears and there is a beep noise.  It goes beep beep then there is a 3 second pause then another beep beep.  I don't know how to fix this and any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

Answer:Windows Vista Beep Beep

These "Beep codes", as they're called, are to notify you that the Power On Self Test, or POST, has failed. The number and sequence of beeps is generally to identify which component failed, but without knowing the manufacturer, specifically the BIOS (Basic Input/Output System), it would be difficult to determine what the beep code is identifying as the problem component. For a successful Power On Self Test to take place, the following components must be working:BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) CPU (Central processing Unit) or processorPSU (Power Supply Unit) Video Output device (Graphics card)RAM (Random Access Memory)If any of these fail, your computer will not power on properly, and may exhibit symptoms like what you are describing. Generally, the first step in fixing a computer that refuses to start up is to isolate components that may be causing the problem. One thing to try would be to clean the internals of your computer (Warning: be sure power is turned off to your computer before working on internals!) and to reseat components like RAM, peripheral cards (such as your graphics card), etc.. If you do not feel comfortable doing this, you may think of taking the computer in to a reputable shop- most places that are reputable would not charge or would charge very little to clean and reseat a couple components. Chances are that the problem component is either RAM or Graphics card, these components tend to fail or require service faster than others, and may als... Read more

I turned my wife's computer on and the screen didn't even flicker and all it does is beep at me.
I tried removing on componant at a time and started it after every removal.
Still beeps at me.
Until I got to the CPU. It stopped beeping at me. Of course, every other piece was out of the puter, so I'm not sure if its supposed to stop beeping or if thats the problem.
Any ideas?

Thanks.

Hi every1, Pls help me, I've bought 2 new ram cards from crucial.com. Each card is (256MB 144-Pin SoDimm 32MX64 PC133Mhz) equalling 512MB, because i was told the beeps are ram problems. And they both worked fine for a while, no beeps T22 loads up, but now all of a sudden my T22 beeps when i turn it on so i've swapped the ram cards about, still beeps when i switch the laptop on. so i took 1 ram card out and tried it with just 1 card (256MB) in both slots, perfect!! no beeps and loaded up perfectly when i put the card in each slot. When i try the other card with the first card BEEPING again!!!! so i tried that card on its own in each slot and beep again, thats the second time i had to send one back. Also should my Ram cards be PC133Mhz  or PC100Mhz? Whats happening to my memory banks?????Sorry for the long message. Thank you.

Hello,

Windows XP, Service Pac 3

I just had a "search engine redirect issue" fixed by "Gringo." One thing that is different now is at windows start-up, this laptop makes a BEEP TIC (Higher in frequency than the BEEP) vs the BEEP BEEP sounds I've had for ever. The computer start-up sequence is very slow as it takes minutes before the computer is ready to be used.

During the virus removal, a few times the reboot start-up sounds were BEEP - TIC - BEEP (again the TIC was higher a higher tone and faster than the BEEPs). What do the different sounds mean?

I'll start another thread requesting help to fix my computer problems.

As the title says my PC outputs a "beep beep" sound out external speakers. It is extremely annoying. I haven't the slightest clue why it does this. Its kindof i higher pitch beep beep. all my specs are on my profile.

Answer:Computer Outputs a "beep beep" sound 1/3 times wallpaper changes. WHY?

== sound 1/3 times wallpaper changes. WHY? ==

Does that mean "one out of three times the wallpaper changes"? Have you looked in your Control Panel under Sounds and see if anything is set that might cause it?

Computer has been working fine, all of a sudden a game im playing locks up, so i reboot the computer. I then start the game again and a few minutes later it unexpectedly quits and i cannot do anything but move the mouse.

I reboot the computer again and this time the monitor does not display anything and i get one long beep and two short beeps. I looked up the codes and saw it had to do with the video card. I take the video card out and disconnect it and i get the same beep (dont know if its because the card is absent). Any other ideas?

I am assuming Phoenix BIOS, however I am not able to find beep codes with this sequence for any BIOS. I have tried multiple sticks of RAM, multiple CMOS Batteries, cleaning slots, reseating graphics card and RAM, unplugging all devices and reconnecting, and different graphics cards. Everything is connected correctly. I cannot get the computer to boot up and display on monitor.

Yesterday I shutdown my computer and when I went to turn it back on it was not sending a signal to the monitor and the computer bios was letting out a sequence of beeps.

1 Long beep followed by two short beeps.

I consulted my Motherboard manual to find that the beeps meant the graphics card was loose/not in all the way. So I opened it up jostled the card a bit and voila the computer started up and ran without a problem for ten minutes. I restarted it to get some updates and...well same problem back to square one.

It seems as though everytime I take the GC out and put it back in the computer will work but if I don't then it won't work.

PS: I cleaned the PCI-E Slot and the GC.

Any thoughts?

Make sure the fan is spinning on the card.

Take a pencil eraser and clean the gold contacts on the card, becareful and blow the eraser dust off before installing.

when I try to boot I get one beep then two longs beeps, I have tried everything possible too, switching out hardware/psu, etc.

I can't figure out what the beeps mean to fix the problem..

one short beep then two or three long beeps.

the computer turns on when I plug the power in so I guess the power button is broke, and the computer sometimes starts to post then shutsdown waits a few seconds starts up and gives the error messages.

I am having problems with my computer not turning on, one long beep then two short beeps, then a black screen. Just happened last night, the machine went into sleep mode, wouldn't come out, I rebooted and that is the error beeps I received. It has been a great little machine till now. I am in contact with customer support/service in Taiwan, where I bought the machine, but I am wondering if anyone else had problems with this on their R61?  I know the T61 had a lot of problems, and I'm wodnering if it's related? Also, I cannot find my original receipt (company paid for the machine, I'm trying to get them to track back through their accounting receipts...)  but I know I paid for 3 years (2 additonal years warranty) but I have only one year listed online. Worst case scenario, if if thea ccounting team cannot locate the receipt, is it possible to pay for additional warranty, and then have the computer fixed. I do not work at the company any longer, though I still have my machine (nice of them) and I think it will be very expensive to fix if it is a mother board problem.

Hey well I am building a computer and when I boot up I get one long beep then two short beeps

Motherboard is A8N-SLI Premium 939
Video card is x300 ATI

I have no idea what is causing this to do this

Answer:Long beep two short beeps

Looking up some info on the motherboard:

1 long, 2 short - Indicates a video error has occurred and the BIOS cannot initialize the video screen to display any additional information.

In layman's terms. There is something wrong with the video card.

Hey guys, big problem this time is: computer, stopped working.

I turned it on yesterday and was greeted with a a long beep followed by two short ones. I had a look as my setup and noticed the circuit breaker light wasnt working so thought it might be the breaker was playing up - so I got a replacement.

It worked again, but today it started up but didnt load up the graphics card - I restarted and met the beeps again - it doesnt even get to anything when loading BIOS, just beeps and stays blank screen.

The last thing I changed was adding a few more case fans and its been working fine for about a week and a half. I'm currently doing a Masters in 3d Animation and Im way behind with my final project already working 24/7 so I really cant afford not to do any work.

PC Specs are:

X2 Quad Core Intel Xion 2.5Hz,8GB RAM,Nvidia Geforce 9800GX2,Tyan Tempest i5400XT MoBo,Vista x64,X2 Sata & X3 IDE Drives,7 Case Fans.

Any ideas?

Answer:1 Long Beep, 2 Short Beeps

Had a look around at beep codes. Someone said your MOBO was Phoenix, but none of their codes match yours.
All but one code I found says your code means a "video failure".
What's it showing in Device Manager (Sound, Video and Game Controllers)?
Could try reinstalling drivers.
Any chance you nudged the video card when installing fans? Check that it's seated properly. Pull it out, check for dust, etc, and re-seat.

Hi Guys,

I have a clients Vostro 3750.
If I leave the ram in it and turn on - the buttons over top right opposite power button light up in sequence, I get 1 beep then the system dies.
However if I take out the Ram and turn on -  the buttons over top right opposite power button light up in sequence, I get 2 beeps ( No RAM?? )  .. BUT the system stays on, nothing on the screen however.
I have heard that 1 beep might indicate motherboard borked BUT with no Ram the machine does stay on. I would have thought if the board was dead the system wouldnt stay on.
Any thoughts??

Answer:Beep codes for H530: What do the beeps mean?

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Sorry to hear of your problems.  Unfortunately for your model there is no documentation available that explains the beep error code you are receiving.  In checking the beep error codes for the Thinkpad product line, a 4 beep cycle points to a problem with the motherboard.  In reviewing various generic beeps codes, a 4 beep cycle could be an indicator of a motherboard problem or a problem with the memory.  Based on all that information I would try this.....

First, try clearing the CMOS.  That will rule out any hardware conflicts with the BIOS.  To clear the CMOS unplug your system, press and hold the power button for 15 seconds then open the cover on your computer.  Inside remove the round coin cell battery from the motherboard.  On the socket holding the battery should be a little tab that when pressed will eject the battery.  Once the battery is removed press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.  Then reinstall the battery, plug the computer in and see if it will now power up correctly.  Page #24 of your model's Hardware Maintenance Manual will show the location of the motherboard battery.  Here is a link to that manual.......

Hey guys, this is what has basically happened:

Last night, I was on my PC when a powercut happened. All power gone for about 1/2 hour, no big deal...I thought. When the power came back, I was able to log onto my PC however there was no internet, and this was apparant on all other computers in my house and the router also indicated this.

I then logged on this morning, with no internet still however there was internet in the rest of the house. I thought to restart the router and also my PC, however, when I tried to turn my PC back on, all i got was 1 long beep then 2 short beeps. I did some research and found out that this was a visual problem..something to do with my video card.

Is there anything immediate I can do right now to verify this, or do something..whatever..

Thanks for your time, any help is appreciated.

Well it pretty much says it in the title.
sometimes i get a single system beep or two, especially when playing games.
i then looked at the temperature but the cpu temp was at 35 degrees celsius and the case was at 37 degrees celsius, this was after about 2 hours of gaming, so overheating is not the problem.
then i tried various methods of disabling the aforementioned infernal beeps, i tried disabling the beep under hkey-current user in regedit.
and here comes the weird part i dont have the beep driver in hardware management.
after all this i tried to find the blasted speaker inisde my case no luck, and no cables connecting the spk connector to anything.
so here i am without a clue.

Answer:system beeps, but no beep driver.

Because the speaker in cases is usually anymore a waste, the pc speaker i onboard most of the time now.

If you only hear these beeps during gaming after a long time, it could still be a heating issue. You need to find a stress test, and use CPUID Hardware Monitor

http://www.cpuid.com/hwmonitor.php

If you can get it, use Passmark Burn-in Test or some other PC stress tester.

This post is going to involve 2 PCs, which I will refer to as PC 1 and PC 2. They are identical except for their graphics card and power supply. They both have ASUS P5E Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E8400 3.00GHz, 3.25 RAM, running windows XP.

PC 1 ( gforce 8800gt card and a 500 watt power supply )

The LG monitor went off and never came back on. My sister had an old vga Mitsubishi diamond plus 91. I didn't have the funds yet to buy a new one so I hooked that up and everything was fine for about a week or two. Then the monitor shuts off and goes into power saving mode. I assume power supply and it sits waiting for a new one.

PC 2 ( gforce 9800gtx card and a 700 watt power supply )

The LG monitor went off and never came back on. I take the Mitsubishi from PC 1 and a week later, the monitor shuts off and goes into power saving mode. I assumed the monitor finally died and went out and bought a new acer flat screen. I hooked it up and when I booted up I heard 1 long beep and 3 short beeps. The monitor went into power saving mode. I then researched and found that beeping code to be an Award Bios error saying the graphic card was bad. I pulled the card from PC 1 and upon boot up I heard 1 long beep and 3 short beeps.

As I read this back to myself, I am seeing and feeling sick at the thought of....did I fry 2 graphic cards by using that old vga? They are both lifetime warrantied but it means both PCs down for as long as it takes to RMA them. I am currently on my laptop, but my worl... Read more

Hello all,

I just obtained a tower for free from my school. It is a Compaq Evo with a Pentium IV processor. It has a video card, cd drive and floppy drive with usb ports. I have an old 4 gb HDD hooked up to it. I was told that all it needed was RAM. I have a ton of Ram sticks. This computer has 3 SDRAM DIMM slots. When I push the power button I get 1 short beep and 2 long beeps.. then nothing happens, no display, not able to get into BIOS or anything. I have tried multiple monitors, I have replaced the video card, I have tried every single SDRAM DIMM stick that I have, I have reset the CMOS with the button and with the battery, I have removed and reinstalled the processor, I have unplugged and reconnected all cables.. still getting 1 beep and 2 long beeps. When I look up the beep codes it seems to be a RAM problem, but I have a hard time accepting that with all of the RAM sticks that I have tried that work in other computers. If anybody can help lead me in a different direction I would be extremely grateful!!!

Hey, I have a problem with my laptop...it won't boot up; as soon as I try, I get 1 long beep, followed by 2 shorter beeps. There is no display on my monitor either.

I'm really stuck at to what to do...I've done the usual taking out battery, booting without power supply, letting lappy heat up, removed and reinserted both RAM slots, checked the fan was working okay, tried to boot using a different monitor (acted as if PC was on standby)...all to no avail.

My laptop model is:
http://www.uktsupport.co.uk/advent/laptop/5401.htm

It's about 16 months old, so past its warranty, I read that the beep pattern was a BIOS code for Video Card failure, which I now presume is the problem, but just wanted confirmation so I don't end up wasting a bomb of money if I need to get it repaired (diagnosis usually costs at least £50 here :s)

Any help would be greatly appreciated, unfotunately I'm no pro with these things...

Thanks!

I am having trouble helping someone to fix a computer. Right now I can't identify what is the beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep (1 long continuous non-stop beep) after POST mean. The PC can boot up to check ram, enter cmos etc, but as soon as it try to get past POST, this beep happen, leaving the screen with pure black with a blinking "_".

I was able to get the PC to boot up with a different hard drive. (replacing ONLY the hard drive)

I also took the hard drive out to run scandisk (windows), chkdsk (command prompt), seagate's seatool test (all test except advance test). No problem detected. (the PC with the problem can also identify the HD)

I plan to go out later to buy some spare DDR3 (have none currently), to test if it really is the RAM; but, it doesn't make sense that I can boot up 100% fine with this same ram with a different hard drive.

It is a gateway sx2800-01

It sounds similar to that. Long continuous beep.

It will boot up with the normal beep like everything is ok, until booting hard drive. Also can't boot from usb storage and unable to get to the menu to choose what drive to boot.

I just built a computer for the first time - I've had 2 different people look at it as well as hours spent on Ventrilo discussing what I may have missed.

The Computer:
Intel Mobo DP55kg
Processor Intel i7 870
no onboard graphics
ram is corsair 1600mhz 4x2gb chips #CMX8GX3M4A1600C9 ddr3

So basically when I hit the power button - all the fans etc come on but it won't show up on the monitor. One short beep happens showing it's booting then after a few seconds I get 2 long beeps, pause, 2 long beeps.

Now the information that came with the mobo says this is a graphics error - I've already replaced the graphics with a brand new one. Some other forums suggest it's a memory error - but could 4 different sticks really be bad? A friend suggested a bad batch, but before I go out and buy more stuff that I'll end up returning to the store - does anyone have any other suggestions as to what is causing this?

Things I've Tried:
Replaced Video Card
Tried different connections with video card
tried 4 different sticks of memory in all 4 different slots with different combinations.
took the entire motherboard out and made sure no posts were touching then put it all back
tried just the basics, no HD or Sata cables
reseated the processor
upgraded the power supply from 600w to 850w
the monitor does work, have it hooked up to my laptop as we speak

When I reinstalled them and I try to boot up I get a long beep, a pause, and another long beep. This senario continues and I shut the computer down as soon as possible. I'm sure I have the ram seated properly. Any ideas? Thank you in advance

Answer:One long beep, pause, another long beep when I turn on computer

If you are sure that you have them seated correctly try one stick at a time.

My Asrock K7S8X, AMD+ 2.1, 512 MB PC has always run fine, but now it starts ok although the fan seems to be racing on, then the post beep, fine, then just as the fan starts to slow and the resultant volume deceases from the aforesaid fan, a second post-style beep occurs. I have a program called MotherBoardMonitor which tells me that the minimum speed for the fan is 2500RPM, my CPU temp is (approx) 47 to 54 , Mobo temp around 31, what could the problem be, i cant find any specific info on the net after hours of looking, thanks for any help, G

Answer:startup-post beep- fan runs hard- 2nd post beep??

Before you do anything else reseat your RAM modules. If this doesn't fix it go back to basics - disconnect everything from your mobo except graphics card, power and RAM does it boot the monitor on start up? If not and you only have 1 ram module fitted beg or borrow another and try that - if you have 2 ram modules try them one at a time on their own. Post back when done and adviseRgds

Hi, I am facing some beep problem with my Lenovo 3000 G400 Thinkpad. It is around five months old. From the last one month, I am facing this problem. Everytime I am starting/restarting it, it is giving some beeps. Sometimes it is 1-4 beeps and sometimes it is 5 beeps. These beeps are happening after machine has fully booted. No other problem is observed till now. I checked all components using PC Doctor. All are passed. I am worried if my Thinkpad has some serious problem. I appreciate any help from you. Regards,Subrata

This is a Dell Studio 540 with Windows Vista Premium. So I am trying to fix it for a friend. I have never used Vista before (I had all XP computers and avoided Vista). Anyway, her computer crashed and would not boot up. She had a bad power supply which I replaced. The computer boots (1 beep, then two beeps) and then boots fine into Windows. However, about 5 minutes after booting up, the computer blue-screens and crashes and does not stay long enough for me to see any messages, then re-boots. This DOES NOT happen in Safe Mode. In fact, I tried a system restore from safe mode which did nothing. I of course suspect that its a corrupted Windows installation since it works in Safe Mode.

Now she does not recall the beeps codes when the computer started up (never paid attention) but the research I did indicates this may be a glitch in some of the 540s--in other words they give the usual one beep on start up then a few seconds later, two short beeps but does not effect the boot into windows. So this may have nothing to do with the problem. I 've swapped ram, video card, nothing stops the two-beeps.

I'm thinking the best thing to do is just re-install Windows Vista. I do have a DVD--although I have reinstalled XP countless times, I have never done it with Vista--does it work the same? If so, is there a guide as to re-installation? (not fresh installation--re-installation). Or is there something else I can try to fix the problem.

Answer:Dell Studio - One beep, then two beeps, crashes on bootup

Hello,
Try disabling the automatic reboot, so you can write down the BSOD message. You can do this by pressing F8 after the bios splash screen. Same place you see the option for booting into safe mode.

Rahul Sood

Answer:Laptop not firing up giving beep sound in set of 7 beeps

Hi Rahul,
The 7 beeps refer to a CPU failure - however, more towards the motherboard. Kindly review this article.
Disconnect the adapter and battery and press and hold the power button for 30 seconds to release any static power. Then test the system with the adapter only / battery only.
If the issue persists, the motherboard needs to be replaced.
If there is no warranty, then you could contact our team to get a quote for a paid service call - http://dell.to/1vnT6CQ

Hello,

My Gateway GT5678 has recently stopped booting up. It turns on, then shortly after beeps once followed by two quick short beeps. According to the gateway error codes this indicates a video card failure. The strange thing is once out every 15-20 or so startup attempts it will start fine. I have tried reseating the video card and have tried taking the video card out and using the other vga output on the tower and no luck. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. -J

Answer:Gateway GT5678 won't start. 1 beep followed by 2 short beeps

Best test would be another video card. Aside from that, it could also be the motherboard.

Anyone know what it means if you get a long beep followed by two short beeps when you boot up?  When this happens the screen is blank; it never continues booting; no Windows XP logo, etc.  It continues beeping like this until I hold the power button down until it shuts down.  Then, I can restart it, and it boots up, seeminly without issue.  This happens when I reboot intentionally (after windows updates or new software installs, etc.) as well as after it periodically locks up.  I suspect that the problem with it locking up is related to this--I don't consider a system lockup to EVER be acceptable, but I don't have time to get mad about it right now. This is a z61m.

Answer:Beeeeeeeep, beep beep

post your version of bios here. every bios manufacturer has their own beep codes which surely sujjests that the system has a problem

Answer:to beep or not to beep(that is the question)

Hi SLAYER. Although I've read that some motherboards don't have a POST beep, I personally haven't come across one. The most likely cause of no beep is that there isn't a connection between the case speaker and the motherboard. Possible causes that immediately come to mind are broken wire or the speaker connector doesn't match the motherboard header pins - possible one is wired for 3 pins and the other for 2 pins. If the motherboard connection is correct, remove the socket from the header and touch a 1.5V battery to the connector. You should get a distinct clicking from the speaker.

Question: Beeeep, beep beep

I just got new asus AM2 mobo and I'm getting beeps on start. 1 long beep and two short. Somewhere I found it is related to video card. I'm not sure if that's true, but I know videocard is functional and inserted correctly.
The mobo has it's own video, so I tried using only that, same thing. It just doesn't seem to make sense.

Answer:Beeeep, beep beep

One long two short looks like a video issue, as you said. You say it is also happening when you remove the graphics card and try to boot up with the onboard graphics?

Here's what I'd do:

Remove the motherboard from the case and set it on a box beside your case. Next, reset cmos (check your manual to find the cmos jumper pins).

Remove everything from the motherboard except:

cpu with heatsink/fan
one stick of ram
power supply connections to the motherboard (should be two)
connect the case's speaker to the motherboard

Then use a screwdriver to quickly touch (short) the two pins that usually connect to your case's power on switch.

See what kind of beeps you get.

If you still get the beeps, my guess is your need to RMA the board, but please post your system's full specs (including your power supply specs)

Good luck!

I just got a strange reaction from my pc. It was working fine last night, I went to start, turn off computer, shut down and went to bed. I got up this morning and I saw a notice on the screen (PC did not shut down during the night) It said there was a change to the global template for microsoft word and did I want to save changes so I said no and the pc shut down. Later on I tried to call up my key logger and heard a beeping noise from within my pc. I paid it no attention and went on the rest of the day working. I was using Quicken later on and noticed that when I tried to view certain graphs they seemed to be "fluttering" (The page seemed to go up and down rapidly on its own) I closed it and ran Avast antivirus scan. I tried to activate it and got an error message that said it ran into some kind of runtime error (I think) I finly got it started, ran a scan and came up empty of viruses. Then Avast kept shutting itself off. I emptied my waste basket, went to internet options, deleted all files and history (Including online content) then cleared all in Firefox. Next I went to start, run msconfig, start up disable all, restart, back to start, run, msconfig, enable all, reboot and everything seems to be fine now. Can anyone tell me what this may have or still is?

Ok, the other day my girlfriends brother gave me a Compaq Presario V2000 laptop. He said he couldn't get windows to boot up, all it did was start to load and after a few seconds it would start running CHKDSK with a blue screen, but once it got to step 3 it would say it was complete, but wouldn't go any further or boot windows up.

So yesterday I decided to mess with it, and it did what he said it did. So I tried to booted it into SAFEMODE and it wouldn't. So I restarted it and pressed ESC and ran a Hard Drive Self Test and got an 07 FAIL. After that I restarted it, and all I got was a black screen then it made a loud BEEP sound fallowed by a REALLY LOUD BEEP, then it did nothing.

Does anyone know what the problem is?

Thanks!

Answer:Beep, Beep thats all folks

Probably a bad harddrive.

Youd better hope they had their information backed up...

What you can try is hooking it up to another PC as slave and see if you can get any data off of it, but they will likely need a new harddrive and OS.

most of the time I start my computer I get five beeps pause of few seconds and then 2 beeps. Initially, it was five beeps on;y but the last two have been started recently. what is it about? how can I solve this problem?

Answer:5 beep pause 2 beep

The beep sequence refers to the CMOS battery - or the clock chip.  Replace the reserve (CMOS) battery -- it's usually a CR-2032 button cell.  If you need details, post the model number (i.e., Inspiron N5110, XPS 9333, etc.).

About 8 out of 10 times that I power on my machine I get One Long Beep and Two short beeps on boot. I've looked up this error code and it seems to point to a video error. However I have tried another pci-e card (that I know works) and I still get the same thing.

I have removed all cables and cards from the machine and cleaned then reseated everything. I have tried various sticks of ram in various configurations (1 on its own, two, four, etc), I have unplugged all external devices while booting, tried the aforementioned other video card... all of this to no avail, the problem still occurs.

The only thing that seems to make any difference, is tilting my pc forwards or backwards 45 degrees or so... but even this doesn't always work, I end up resetting again and again until, eventually the PC powers up and does the single bios beep. The machine runs fine then, until I reboot or shut down and the fun starts all over again.

I have also cleared the CMOS, tried booting up with less items plugged in. The thing that baffles me is that my PC ran perfectly well for almost two years, and then without a crash or anything this has started to occur. The system is plugged into Belkin surge protector and the leds on this tell me that there has been no surge on the power socket.

I am running (when it can be arsed to boot):

Asus A8N SLI Premium
2Gb ram (4x512 sticks running in dual channel)
AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+
XFX Geforce 7800 GTX

Answer:One Long Beep and Two short beeps on boot... no video display

PSU or the actual slot/motherboard may be the culprits. Easiest to try a different PSU first and if that still causes the errors, you may end up having to get a new mobo. I have also heard sometimes that bad memory can cause video problems.

a couple of seconds later 2 beeps - some hardware has failed
then 4 beeps

Specs are in drop down. thanks

Update: I cannot press tab to show post messages either... it just skips them and carries on like normal. I don't get beeps anymore but still cannot get into the bios.

My screen went dead & the bios fault alrm went off. Two short beeps then one long beep. Looked it up and it says video fault. Took out my graphix card & cleaned fans etc, but still get alarm noise. If I change my graphix card will this solve this fault? or is there some sort of video circuitry on the Motherboard that could have a fault. Don't want to spend money on a new card if the board is at fault - will just get a new system in that case.

Hey guys, as my (hopefully) very informative title says, my Vista PC turns on, doesn't beep, the monitor claims "no input signal" (it worked when tested with another base unit), however removing the RAM caused a series of beeps.

I'm thinking perhaps it is the RAM, but unfortunately I don't have a spare stick of DDR RAM lying about to test it with. Any ideas?

Hi there,
We have recently purchased (last month) a Latitude E5570 with docking station. We experience system hangs and freezes several seconds, sometimes up to a minute after hot undocking the laptop.  The mouse and keyboard become unresponsive.

It usually emits a beep code before freezing up.  4 beeps then a pause and then 1 beep. Any information regarding this?
Anyone have insights into this?
Thanks!

Out of the blue my pc started the beeping randomly while using mozilla. When I close, no beep since. All other apps are standard, usual and up to date. No new hardware or software. Recent past & some random scroll bar moving by it's self, have not found a fix. That happens on both browsers. Hi, While working on my laptop I got an error message regarding some memory and when I re-started the laptop there was a blank screen with one long and two short beeps. Going through various blogs/ forums and help sections on net and Lenovo website I got to know that this relates to Video board or motherboard error. I have opened my laptop and found NVIDIA graphics card mounted on motherboard which I am guessing must be causing the display error. I believe this is NVIDIA G72M-V (GO 7300) card which needs to be replaced. I have read about NVIDIA cards abnormal behavior on net in some Laptops. Is it possible that I can replace existing NVIDIA graphic card with some Intel graphic card compromising the graphic quality but at least I can do normal work. Regards Sachin
