New Home Built Computer Wont Load to Bios

Question: New Home Built Computer Wont Load to Bios

I have recently upgraded a home built computer with a new motherboard, memory and a CPU.When i pressed the power key, once the parts were put together, the computer starts for a few seconds then restarts. The screen stays blank and doesnt even get to bios and there are no system beeps to indicate a problem.I thourght there was not enough power getting to the system so i upgraded to a 1000W PSU. This did nothing unfortunately and the problem remained the same.I then cleared the CMOS but all this did was stop the computer from restarting. Now the computer powers up then dies, again without any system beeps or getting to bios. All the parts i purchased are compatible, although my memory needs a quad core processor to work (what i have) but im concerned that it is not being recognised.Any help is much appreciated.

Preferred Solution: New Home Built Computer Wont Load to Bios

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: New Home Built Computer Wont Load to Bios

Disconnect all unnecessary hardware like CD/DVDs extra hard disks or PCI cards then try to start.Does it beep at all? There usually is one beep. If not, remove all but one stick of RAM, if no different remove all RAM.Have you checked the manufacturers website to make sure the CPU will be recognised by the BIOS version that is running on the motherboard? You need to get it to the POST screen to make sure the CPU is named correctly.

Hi, I just recently bought and assembled my new computer. After assembling it all it wont seem to load the BIOS. The monitor just reads that its in Power Save Mod, Activate using PC. Ive tried a million different things, Can Anyone Lead me in the right Direction. There is no onboard graphics card, so Ive tried swithching the ram around and tried multiple different monitors. If anyone can help me out, it would be greatly appreciated.

Asus A8N-SLI Premium Mobo
AMD 64 Athlon 3700+ Processor
eGeforce 8400 GS PCI-Express Graphics Card
160GB SATA Hard Drive
4x512mb SuperTalent DDR400 ram
Dual 500w Power Supply

- When I first tried to boot it up, it turned on and started to load the bios i think but then after about 1 minute, the computer shut down, and after that nothing. The Powersupply fan, CPU fan, Graphics card fan all are spinning. Also the Mobo LED lights up.

Answer:Newly Built PC wont Load Bios

Is there a 4 or 8 pin connector near the CPU that needs a cable from the power supply to be plugged in, similar to Intel boards?

I built a computer from scratch and as I go to setup windows xp, it loads all the necessary files then says starting windows, still on the original blue set up screen. Then my system speaker sirens and the computer turns itself off. It does this over and over again and its not letting me load windows so I cant use the machine. I am building this for my parents business and have been working on it for weeks, it is killing me right now cause my parents need it badly. I thought it was the power supply, which is a 350W. I unplugged everything but my hard drive, cd rom, video card. Someone please help me asap!   :-/ :-/

I just finished putting together my PC and for some reason the dam thing will not boot, at all. The only thing i get is the power supply and cpu fans come on for about .5 sec, then turn back off. Want does that mean. Everything was brand new straight from Fry's.

The problem was with the motherboard not properly grounded to the case something also to do with grounding the p4 part of the motherboard to the case.

Hiya all,
My problem is that I rebooted my computer and it now wont start up. I did not change anything and the reason I rebooted was because of a network issue unrelated to the computer.

So here is some details.
gigabyte mobo (dual bios) ga81pe775 pro
4 x 512mb ddr400 ram
sata and ata hdds (4 in total)
pentium 4 3ghz processor
I removed all of the ram and inserted one stick in slot one to make sure it was not the issue.Retry loading and it does the same thing.

It loads up and freezes when it gets to the memory test. I tried each of the sticks of ram individually but no problem. All display the bios menu and then it stops.
Does anyone have any suggestions or solutions or theories of what might be happening?
Thanks for your time.

I built a new computer with a Mach Speed motherboard (the P4MSD-800D2) and an Intel Pentium D chip. I can NOT load Windows XP or Windows Media Edition on this computer. I switched the CD-ROM drive and the Hard Drive for ones that I know work and I still can't load Windows.  When I start the computer it boots from the Windows XP CD and starts to load Windows, it install gets all the way to asking if I want to "Install XP press enter - Recovery press R or Exit." When I press either Enter or R the system just freezes up completely.  I have tried 2 different retail Windows XP Pro, 1 retail Windows XP Home and an OEM Windows Media Edition. What on earth could be the problem with this thing.I posted this here and in the software section just in case it's one or the other. Hope that's OK.Thanks in advance,Frank

I am helping a friend to determine what the problem could be on her laptop Satelite A215 -S6816 Windows will not load on start up and it says "press F2 for setup, Press F12 for boot device selection menu" however niether one of those options work no matter what I do.

I have tried them on start up but nothing happens. It just wont enter BIOS mode or the menu. It will say please wait or entering menue but again nothing happens.
What else can I try to get into the menue or to get the system to get windows to load? Could this be a motherboard issue? Hardrive issue?

Thanks in advance.

here is the deal. installed a new harddrive on a friends computer. installed the OS onthe new HDD and it wouldnt boot. wellllll i went and put back in the old HDD and now it wont boot that one either but what is worse is that the bios wont load either. i reset the bios by taking out the CMOS battery. even switching the jumpers. it reset my bios but it just wont load my bios menu. when i turn the pc on it tells me i need to set time and date in the bios big deal since i just reset it. however, when i hit delete to load the claims its "loading setup" but it never does. i let it sit for hours and it never loads the bios. its like its frozen. anyone have any suggestions on what i can do? i would be happy if i can just get the old configuration working so he can have a computer

Answer:PC wont boot AND wont load any bios..

What jumpers did you mess with. Was it a bios reset jumper? What is the system specs? It sounds like the Bios is toast.Try to go to the web site of the motherboard manfg, and get a bios and make a BIOS image on floppy and reflash the BIOS. There should be instructions on how to do this.

My son bought the components for a gaming computer and we are having trouble loading an operating system. I downloaded windows 7 onto USB thumb drive using Microsoft ISO download and when we try to boot from USB we get "Reboot and select proper boot device or Insert Boot Media in selected boot device and press a key" . I can get to the BIOS setup screen and change boot device but still cannot get it to work. Any advice would be great and appreciated. Thanks

Answer:Cannot load Windows 7 from USB key on new built computer

You cannot simply download and copy the Windows 7 ISO file in a USB thumb drive or burn it in a DVD and then expect it to boot and work.
You need to create a bootable USB thumb drive or DVD.

Even if you're able to install Windows 7 in that self-built gaming computer, how do you plan to activate it and make it legal?

I just put together a new computer myself for the first time, and I can't get the thing to work now...

I set up the BIOS priority to boot from the CD drive, and installed windows that way, and then I used the disc that came with the motherboard (Gigabyte brand) to install the drivers, and it made the pc restart a couple times to install...and now it complains for the windows boot disc whenever i try to boot, and attempts to install windows again...

but then it thinks i don't have a hard drive connected!

So i went back into the BIOS and made the hard-drive higher priority to boot from...but it didn't fix the problem.

I'm in a real bind, because the disc that came with the motherboard is a system restore utility but apparently the partitions I used when I installed Windows are full.

So I've installed all of the components ( P4 2.8, 120GB, 1GB ram, DVD, DVD burner, Floppy, video card to be installed after OS ( XP ) installed, same with sound card ) made sure all the wires are connected to the right places ( about a dozen times already ) and now I have to push the power button to get it running and I AM FREAKING OUT.

I have never done this before and I DO NOT want to screw it up. It was easy putting it all together. But now I have to believe that the BIOS will detect all the hardware and the HD will get formatted and partitioned and the OS will install ..... and did I say i am FREAKING OUT?!!!!!!!!!

The manual for the SOYO Dragon motherboard is great. Makes it sound real easy. Pretty much let the BIOS set defaults and away you go...reboot and install your OS after formatting the HD. I need some reassurance or a resource or maybe just a pair of "nads".

Anyone want to point me in the right direction. Thanks, Ted

I put together ASUS P4800 SE Motherboard and the CPU is Intel P4 Processor. My computer will not boot at all. I did smell something burning (I hope I did not fry anything) I rechecked everything. I looked at the motherboad, but did not see any signs of burning marks. (My guess is lost hope!) I did try to turn the computer back on, but the motherboad just lights up and the cpu fan keeps spinning. No other sign of life.

A. I read the manual instructions carefully
B. Made sure the pins were correct
C. I know CPU and Motherboard are compatible with each other
D. Hard Drive pins are correct, but I do not think this is an issue

I will take it to my coworker who is a technician, but any suggestions.

I built this computer in an old tower with a CPU, put a Intel D845EPI motherboard in it with a processor already attached that a friend traded me, he said it worked. Ive got it down to the basics with just the PSU and the motherboard and some ram. The LED on the motherboard comes on when i hook power to it through either of thr 2 PSUs im trying on it, but when i hit the power switch no fans turn and nothing happens. Ive even tried a new power switch and im very sure i followed the motherboards manual on setting up the front panel correctly. Can anyone think of what it could be? wouldnt the CPU fan turn for even a second if the ram was bad? Im at a loss... Thanks!

OK I"ve tried the following:
Re seating the single stick of DIMM that I have.
Re seating the Video Card.
Re seating the ATX power connector.
Using a PCI graphics card.
Clearing CMOS.
(all while having nothing but the CPU/hs,video card,Stick of memory, and mobo installed and hooked up. and of course the Power Supply)
Checked all the jumpers...I only have 2, the CMOS and the ABR buzzer jumper.
its not shorted to the case I"m using risers.

My parts I"m using at this moment:
KT400 SOYO Dragon Ultra Platinum Edition
2800+ AMD Athlon XP Barton
128mb 8x AGP Geforce FX 5200P (made by Albatron)
256mb K-Byte memory 333mhz (pc2700)
Volcano 11+ Xaser Edition
Antec True 430w
and thats all that I have hooked up at this moment.

So all thats left really is re seating the CPU I guess....I mean I can't think of anything else to try, I want another computer here so I can swap out each part and figure out what is wrong. but this one I am using is to crappy to use any of them plus its a Pentium and I"m building an AMD.

Ok let me state what happens. I plug in the computer and the green light at the button of my SOYO KT400 Ultra Dragon Platinum Edition motherboard lights up showing it has power, then I push the power button and turn it on and ALL the fans start spinning and it see's the CD-ROM and stuff and they work but nothing on the screen (the light on the monitor is yellowish not green, like the computer is not even turned one when it is)and no beep... GEForce2 MX 400 AGP 4X/2X

I jus built up a computer and everything starts but shuts off again instantly.

These are the components. All bought from newegg and these are all active links:

COOLMAX CUG-700B 700W ATX12V v2.2 / EPS12V SLI Certified CrossFire Ready Modular Active PFC Power Supply

G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1000 (PC2 8000) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F2-8000CL5D-4GBPQ

I hooked everything up and like I said, everything turns on really quick and shuts off instantly. LED Lights, Fans, Power Supply, everything. But the power light on the motherboard stays on. So I know its getting the power and its continual but I can't figure out whats keeping the power from running through, past the mother board.

I've already taken out 1 Memory stick and the graphics card no change.

What could be the problem?

It could easily be just one cord, like I said, Its my first time building a PC.

Thank you.

I stayed up till 12:30 one night and turned off my computer and went to bed.. when i woke up i tried to turn on computer and the computer started up but the BIOS and Windows did not load... I took out hardware and put it back together, and when i started it it worked but only five minutes then it crashes... it works after an hour of leaving the computer alone... It finally told me to repair windows all though i cant get my CD/DVD ROM/Burner working when i connect it with just a power cable it works but when i plug in the DVD ROM Data cable it does seem to accept the power.. any ideas? try reseating your RAM.Borrow a power supply of equal or greater wattage and swap it into your computer to rule that out as the culprit.

Laptop wont load bios or OS

Interesting issue here.
When I press the power button, the HD activity led light comes on for just a second, I feel the HD spinning up and running, the fan kicks in and runs, then nothing. No leds flahing, just power led, no beeps, no screen and no bios.
I'v discharged static build up (battery out, power button held down 30") and tried both mains & battery to no effect. There were no precursors to this issue.
So I can deduce the laptop is unable to complete POST in pre bios, despite the lack of beeps yet can supply power to fan & HD.
Now the GPU is GForce 8400m GS, aware of the issues with the 8xxx series, I'v kept the air flow clean and use a laptop cooler. Possible suspect though it never ran hot and all worked fine till I turned on a couple of days ago. Now I understood that a failure of the 8xxx series usually presented a degraded screen, lines etc rather than failing post.
I'm backed up and use my second laptop so nothing urgent, just a oportunity to learn.
I am interested in hearing from hardware geeks and their thoughts.

Hey all. I am fairly well with computers, but this one has me stumped.

My toshiba satellite l455 laptop running windows 7 home premium 64 bit turns on (i can see all the lights blinking) but nothing appears on the screen. It is just black.

Here is what happened.

The left clicker on the trackpad broke off and slid under the computer (where the motherboard is etc...).This happened while windows was running. Then the screen went bezerk and random colors started flashing across the screen. So i turned it off, put the left mouse part back in place, but now when i turn it on i just see the blinking lights that indicate wifi, the computer is charging etc.... but the screen does not load. Just a plain black screen.

And what really sucks is 2 weeks ago i just purchased a new hard drive because the old one was broken. It was like 60 bucks.

The computer has good hardware (250 gb hdd, 4 gb ram etc...) and i dont want it all to go to waste. The computer is also fairly new.

Does anyone know what i can do to fix this???

Bought the kids DIY computers for Christmas. One is working, one is not. Here's what we are working with:

MB: MSI 970A-G46
Video: Geoforce GTX 650
Processor - AMD FX 8350 8-core Black Edition
Power Supply: Corsair CX500M

I've checked and rechecked the wiring. It powers up weird. Like I mentioned, I have a twin machine that's working, so I sort of know what it should look like.

When I power on the machine, the fans start running, but we get no video to the monitor. The power LED on the front does not light, and the power button on the front of the machine will not turn the machine back off. I pulled the switch assembly off and tested it on the known good machine. It's fine.

So, what should I try next?

Hello there,
It seems like you did not perform a clean installation of Windows and that's why your system is acting up.
Follow the steps below to install a new copy of Windows:
1. To format your hard disk during Windows 7 installation you will need to start or boot your computer using the Windows 7 installation disc or USB flash drive. Insert your Windows 7 disc in your CD/DVD drive. Please note: will need to restart or turn on your system with the disc in the drive.
2. After turning on your system with the CD in the drive go ahead and press any key when prompted during your computer post routine and then follow the instructions presented on screen. If you don’t see this go back to step 1 to setup your BIOS to boot from CD or USB flash drive depending on your installation media.
3. On the Install Windows page simply enter your preferences and click next.
4. Accept the Windows license agreement.
5. On the “Which type of installation do you want” page go ahead and choose the “Custom” option.
6. Select Drive options (advanced) on the “Where do you want to install Windows” page.
7.  Select the partition that you want to change, choose the formatting option you want to perform and then follow the instructions.
When allocating space choosing the default MB size for your drive is typically the best for most users since you want to take full advantage of all your disk... Read more

My dad and I recently built a new computer for school to support massive 3d modeling, but something went fishy after the trip back to school. It blue screened, failed to start back to windows. I managed to system restore it back to a good configuration, haven't had any blue screen issues since then but while trying to install programs for school, It been fussy. I will get random errors about it not being able to find certain system files, I'm not sure if some of my drivers are not configured right or it its something external not set up right? I'm not sure if the HJT forms will help solve this?

also, The install for 3ds max 2010 has failed as well as corel painter 11

another edit - my windows updater can't update, i get the 8007370B error, and none of the fixes seem to work.. just something really off preventing it from being fixed?

Hello i was wondering what is the fastest home buit computer you could make no a supercomputer what is the fastest home computer that would run windows and play games the fastest,    what would you build with limit less spending what is the highest ghz ram that you can have does a hardrive matter for speed??? graphics card what is the highest gb hardrive i heard of and seen 2tb hardrives for under 200$ and i heard that hitachi is plaining to make a 5 tb hardrive before 2010 and what is the highest ghz computer,     I seen one on ebay that was 5.33ghz show me you dream computer. ghz ram hardrive. ect. with what's out there. right now

Answer:Fastest home built computer

Describing the fastest is not likely to happen as for the minute i would post this a faster solution would become available. For speed however at this time, I would go with the best available Dual-Quad Core CPUs for 8 cores of processing, 32GB Ram so 4GB per core if you could balance it, solid state hard drives configured in an array to increase performance and for fastest read/write speeds, and for Gaming the best cards that would pair up as a SLI configuration. Motherboard would have to be top of the line to avoid bottlenecking.

Hi, i built a new computer but it doesn't turn on. I'm using the processor, hard drive, video card, and two disk drives from an eMachines computer. PSU from that computer failed and it took out the motherboard as well. So I ordered a few new parts to try and build a new computer but once I assembled it wouldn't turn on. I press the power button and nothing happens. Also i turn the power supply on it makes a strange high pitch noise which didn't occur when i tested the PSU outside the case. It only occurs when i have it connected to all the components. I checked several times the connections and they are all connected correctly.Does anyone have any suggestions on what i used do? If there is no beeps chances are the video card is not sitting properly or you forgot to plug in a molex connector to the video card.

well, I hope that subject heading was descriptive enough for all you fine folks.

To get down to the bones of the problem, I just built a new computer almost from the ground up, I salvaged only my hard drive and my processor from my old computer (A 7200 WD 200gig and a P4 3.0gHz HT, respectively) as the ram slots on my old motherboard decided to die. That, and it was kinda eh.

I upgraded to a NEW motherboard, a BioStar TSeries 945P v2.0 LGA775 with the 1066/800mHz FSB, got a new case with a 500watt power supply, new PNY DDR2 RAM, and hooked everything up properly. Alas, I plug the monitor into my video card(the board has no onboard video. The card is an ATI Radeon x600 from the old machine) and I get that little pop/crackle(it's a CRT) that tells me it feels somthing, but all it gives is the monitor test and a blinking green light when I turn the machine on. It's like it's not even plugged into anything.

I certainly hope this isn't an issue with the motherboard. I'm using the risers so I know it's not grounding to the plate, and it's literally brand new. I AM very green on building computers, though. So perhaps I messed something up. I can go into more detail if anyone would like.

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Built a new computer, monitor wont work.

Did you install a floppy drive? That would enable you to do a basic test with the hard drive disconnected and a boot to a floppy disc.
The pop/crackle could just be the monitor receiving power.
What do you mean by "monitor test"?

Processor- AMD Phenom 9500
RAM- Corsair XMS 2gb
Hard Drive - WD 320gb 7200
Case- Raidmax saggitarius that came with a 450w power supply.

You've reseated the Video Card and memory. Have you made sure that the power supply is at the right voltage. Some come with a switch on the back of it. Make sure it's the appropriate voltage. That could be an issue, the symptoms match yours exactly actually.

helloi've been building computers for a while and for the first time ever i have built one that wont power up. i have checked all the individual components except the motherboard (because i'm too lazy to put a load of MY stuff on someone elses motherboard just to see if it works) by putting it all piece by piece in my own computer. so i know the ram, graphics card, hard drive and processor all work fine. my question is basicall this: i have tried two seperate power supplies with it, one of which is new, the other has worked but i havent had it going in a while. when i plugged the new one in, it made a strange clicking noise each time the power was switched on at the mains. hmmmmmm. so then i tried the other one and still nothing. i have been over all the jumpers and case connectors several times and i know they are right. can i kill a motherboard with a dodgy power supply or might it have been dead already? (maybe that was my actual question) if my motherboard is dead and my power supply is dodgy (the funny noises) should i send them both back and get replacements? i dont want to try the new power supply on another board in case it messes it up so how would i tell? i think thats all my questions at once, so any help would be appreciated.cheerss24da

I just went with my friend to buy the parts for a custom computer. I built everything for him, everything powers on fine, except the monitor does not turn on/ shows a blank black screen and has the orange "sleep" button lit.

The parts in the computer are:

Motherboard - ASUS Proactive ai Series A8N-SLI Deluxe
Hard Drive - Maxtor 120 Serial ATA Hard Drive
Video Card - WinFast PX6800 GT TDH PCI Express
CPU - AMD 64 Athlon 3200

Again, everything boots fine, except the monitor stays black/off.

Also, the back of the video card does not have an VGA monitor connection. It has 2 DVI ports and comes with an adapter so that you can plug in the VGA type connection monitor into the DVI port. The video card is connected correctly in the PCI express slot and has the power cable connected to the power supply.

Here is the site for the video card:
Leadtek WinFast PX6800 GT TDH

Answer:Built new computer, monitor wont turn on

What wattage is the power supply and are ALL of the power leads to the mobo connected correctly? If the psu is only 300watts then u will probably find its not upto running such a power hungry setup. I suggest a minimum of 450watts but bigger is better, also go for the most expensive one that u can afford as cash buys quality.

Ok so i decided i would update my BIOS as i saw there was a new BIOS available at the dell website

I have a Inspiron 1100 2.2Cel, 512 Ram, 30GIG
I had a A29 BIOS and was updating to A30, So i downloaded and started the BIOS update it starts installing and has to restart as it restarts all is fine till it gets to the windows splash screen and it comes up with a certain boot file is missing in system32 ( I didn't get chance to see the specifics as i wasn't expecting a problem) and then straight away it restarts so the BIOS didnt finish installing and from then on it simply just keeps restarting at the splash screen

So i thought i would try Safe mode but the same problem, I then try putting my XP cd in and repairing the windows but still no luck so then i went and instaled a second XP which is now working fine, which relieved a bit as the Computer parse is working just not the original Windows

I now have access to the other windows install to be able to put the missing files in, But my main concern is getting "My Documents" as i have a lot of college stuff which isn't backed up on my USB drive, And when i go to get access it comes up with access denied because it's private

I have tried This
still didnt help

Tried copying some system32 files from the fresh install to the old see if the file might missing might have been added but still no luck

I did a virus scan and the scanner was able to scan the files in the "My Docume... Read more

I was fiddling with the settings for the uefi (bios), clever me decided it'd be a good idea to mess around with the BOOT options in the uefi. Changed the boot options all the legacy (where applicable), changed the optimized settings to other OS (other than windows 8, and again changed the boot mode to legacy support rather than the UEFI. Now, after sobering up and slapping my self several times, i regret that decision. Can anyone provide any support as to how to revert back to the standard UEFI, and how to boot with USB on this system so i can install a real network card and not carry around a massive dongle. Anything ive tried has been shot down in flames for the past few hours and i really dont want to disassemble the laptop to remove the UEFI battery to reset it (if that still works). Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.   Note: the laptop won't boot into OS or bios. Sometimes the Lenovo splash shows , the screen blacks out and the computer just shows a blank screen. Same with the button on the side that should load into bios. No keys work (f1-f12) but the keyboard does respond to it's own commands like screen off, caps lock etc. And the peripherals also are powered, just no response from the OS and bios. Almost as if it's bricked.

Answer:y400 wont load windows or bios

Since it is of your own doing you should be able to untangle what you have done. If it can't be done aside from the battery removal, your final option is to send it to Lenovo for repair.

My last company liquidated and I’ve inherited my old work laptop. It’s a good machine running Windows 7 Prof but I’m having problems as I can’t load drivers for my camera, iPhone, etc. at home. I strongly suspect that this is something to do with the pc once being part of a server group (there is still showing a group of network locations I (obviously) can’t access) and this is stopping normal ‘stand alone’ functions. I’m strictly an end user so can anyone let me know if I can remove the network references to allow me to use the machine as normal?

Answer:Old work laptop wont let me load drivers at home.

Would it not have been better to have completely wiped the laptop and installed fresh copy of Windows 7 Prof? If you have the COA number but not a setup disk it can be downloaded.

I have a Dell Inspiron Laptop 1545 that belongs to a friend of mine and it wont get past the white flashing cursor. I've tried everything I could think of to get this thing to boot up. I looked up on here and seen where a similar problem had occurred and the problem was the partition wasn't set right. I tried to set the partition using and old Windows PE disk I have, since I don't have a windows 7 disk or a recovery disk. (It was the only way I could get it to boot up) But I was able to bring up the command prompt and set an active partition. But alas trhis was not the problem. I can see all the files and they are intact. I've even been able to remove and replace file on the HDD so I know it's not a Hardware issue.

I'm downloading a copy of Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit now and see if I can boot from it. It's about the only thing I haven't tried. Any suggestions?

Here's the thing... I got a new computer as a gift in January and it was home-built. The person who built it knows what they are doing, but is hard to get ahold of. I installed all of my usual software (Avast Antivirus, Microsoft Office '07, etc.) as soon as I got it. It seems though, that during graphics-heavy programs (Asda Story, a free downloadable online MMORPG I play), it decides to totally freeze up and I have to hit the reset button on the tower. The mouse won't move and if there is music playing at the time, the screen freezes but you can hear the same spilt second of music over and over (sounds kind of like someone saying duh-duh-duh-duh REALLY fast)... know what I mean? Also, in case it helps any, another symptom I have noticed is that I get the Blue Screen of Death sometimes, yet very rarely, when I "X out" Firefox 3.5.7. The "BSOD" says, "IRQL not less or normal" and then it restarts. I have checked the event viewer which is setup to record system errors and it says nothing has happened. Ok, now every time I get a blue screen, i research the stop code. Almost every time it has come up with "memory" issues. So, i checked my ram and of course, my computer detected problems. I then sent the ram back, but to no avail. New ram, still having blue screens.

Ok, so maybe it is my hard drive. Bought a brand new hard drive and stuck it in. Problem free... or so I thought. About 6 hours later, blue screens again.

My next attempt at solving this was my mobo. I figured maybe the DIMM slots were defective, so I sent that back and received a new one but 10 minutes after hooking it up, another blue screen. Still "memory" related. I can't figure out what could possibly be wrong.

Just got another blue screen while typing this, so I will also include that one in the minidump files. Please help, I have no further knowledge as to what could be wrong!

Edit: I forgot to mention I ran a ram check on my new ram (with my old mobo) and it still detected problems. What are the chances that I got bad ram 2 times in a row?

I apologize for the wall of text in advance as I thought this would be the best way to solve my problem. I booted it up and everything went smoothly. I then proceeded to connect to my home network and enter in the correct network passcode. Then it says, "The key or passphrase is incorrect, Please try again". I tried 20 more times and nothing. I then tried to reset my router for 10 seconds and nothing changed. Then I decided to go to google to help me out and ended on my command prompt typing in stuff like, "ipconfig /all" which gives me the information about my network. I also tried to do "netsh winsock reset catalog", "netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log", and "netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log". Then i restarted and nothing changed. I had also noticed I did not have an IP address. I thought if I manually connected to the network by adding in its name and passcode, it would work. But all I got was, "The settings saved on this computer for the network do not match the requirements of the network." What should I do now to connect to the internet? My drivers are already updated for the network card. Any suggestions? All the other computers on the network are completely fine. I use comcast as my internet provider. I've been trying to find a solution literally all day. The computer's drivers are pretty much up to date except for "ethernet controller", "pci simple communications controller", "sm... Read more

My computer specs are:

AMD 2400+ XP with an ARBIT motherboard
4gb master harddrive/ 160gb slave harddrive
512 ram
350Watt power supply
nVidia Geforce FX 5200 Asylum
Windows XP Professional

I've tried my best to make this machine work, I've passed through many hurdles except this one.

I can get windows xp to boot. It loads the desktop just fine. But sometimes half-way through the use of a program or right at the beginning of it, the program crashes.

It says that "(Insert program name) has encountered a problem and must close."

This does not happen for only one program it occurs in all kinds of programs. Like bitTorrent, Internet Exploer, Yahoo DSL, WinAmp, and etc.

Another problem is that there is a "page fault in nonpaged area" problem. Which ends up closing "Windows to prevent damage to your computer." That occasionally shuts down my computer and is apparently caused by my win32k.sys file, however fixing it is another matter.

I could use Any help out there. This is an SOS.

Answer:Nightmarish Trouble with a Home-Built Computer

I just built my new machine. I'm using an
Intel D865PERL mobo
P4 2.4 800MHz chip
ATI Raedon 7000 video card (wanted to go cheap as possible)
Antec 350 watt supply
Windows XP

I hade a couple of those closing notices for certain programs but realized they were a result of something I was doing or a driver conflict. Indeed, the majority of program crashes are a result of some sort of driver or dll conflict

I suggest that you update all of your software and OS and hardware. This is important, especially if you just stepped up from Windows 98/ME.

Have you thought of wiping out your hD and reinstalling Windows/ it may help.

Aside from that, you could do a selective boot.

Hello everyone,

I have finally bought and put together my new beastly computer, but something is wrong.

I have connected everything as best I can and my uncle, who built his own computer, cannot find anything wrong with the way the components are connected. But when I plug my moniter into the 8800GT, nothing happens. I have tried three different moniters, (2 CRT and 1 LCD) and the best I can get is a "No Signal" image on the LCD. The other two remain black.

I have also tried removing and replacing the card, like it says to do in theTrouble-Shooting section of the card's manual, but to no avail.

The fans all start spinning around, the LED's light up... but that's about it. nothing else happens.
(The moniters all work on the other computer, just fine by the way).

It looks very pretty and all, but it isn't exactly living up to my expectations.

Is it normal for a PC to do this untill the OS is installed? I would appreciate any information anyone might have as well as any advice.

Also if anyone can post a link to a good "How To Build A Computer" guide for noobs, I would be very grateful.

Classic Rock.

Answer:Built a new computer, but the monitor wont display an image

Check your MB specs

You may want to look at your motherboard specs.
Some MB if it's SLI requires you to flip a jumper if you are running with 1 GPU if not already set by default. Also if you are running a single GPU it may also require you put the GPU in a specific PCI-E slot.

Good luck.

Hey guys,

So ive been having problems. thats an under statement! I built this computer to play WOW, but it kept freezing! So I have stripped my computer down to the motheroard, CPU with cooler, 2 system fans, and one stick of memory. I then turn on the motherboard. All the fans run which is good. My mobo has an on-board led indicator. These 2 led lights indicate system power on diagnostics. Any how, led 1 is on, but led 2 is off. In the manual this indicates memory error. I tried my other stick of memory. And I tried it in different spots. Same result. Is it that the memory is bad? Or is it a bad mob? Am I troubleshooting my computer correctly? Does the HDD need to plugged in as well?

I just finished assembling a new computer. Using an Abit NF7-S Ver 2 MOBO, AMD 2500+ Athlon CPU; and a Evga GeForce 6800 GT Graphics card and Windows XP Pro. It booted up the first time (score one for me) but I have a couple of questions about the BIOS setup.
1. The CPU comes up as unknown, is this normal?
2. What should I set the CPU operating speed, External clock and Multiplier factor to? Right now they are CPU_600; Clock-100Mhz; Mult-6
Thanks in advance for any help

Answer:BIOS Setup for newly built computer

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

Your fsb should be set to 166mhz for your cpu.

The multiplier cannot be set, and is automatically set at 11x.

11x166mhz(333mhz effective)=1826mhz(1.8gig) cpu speed.

I built a computer and then went to download windows 7 and it downloads it,restarts then acts like it wasnt downloaded. what do i do?
i was downloading windows 7 and it came up asked me what HDD to download on it i told it which one then it downloaded windows 7. then it restarts and comes back up and wants me to select a HDD to download windows 7 on so i thought mabe it just derped the first time and so i
redownloaded it . I go to redownload it and it's already taken space for the old windows 7 meaning it obviously did something and i popes up with a msg telling me that there is already a version of windows installed on that HDD and if i continue it will take the old windows and put it in a file call windows.old . so i continued and i did this several times changing some settings in the bios every time hoping something would work. last night my uncle said that after i download it try switching my boot order so that my HDD with windows on it is first in stead of the optical drive with windows 7 boot disk. and that mabe it did download but it was kept going strait to the windows 7 disk instead of checking the HDD. so i tried and it but it did the same thing.

When I go to turn it on it sounds like the hard drive attempts to spin. I don't hear the fans, but all the lights come on. The battery is fairly new and everything is plugged in properly.
All this began when I was running Macromedia Dreamweaver MX and it locked up forcing me to shut down.
Any ideas?

I had to update my bios & it seems that the wrong one was downloaded about 3% into installing the laptop just died & won't go back on.

There are no lights & there is no noise from the laptop at all.

Any ideas on how I can fix this?

The laptop is a Toshiba satelite L300D.

Answer:Toshiba l300D wont load up after bios update fail

It doesn't sound like it is fixable on your end. Flash BIOSes that go bad, leave you with a doorstop. You'll hear the statement, "I bricked my computer". This means you turned your device into a brick also known as a doorstop.

You might want to post at a good BIOS site

People do send bricked computers off, have the BIOS chip desoldered and a new one soldered on. You might be able to get information on that type of service.

Maybe if you contact Toshiba, they will be able to tell you of some companies that do this.

Hello all,
I'm new to building computers and new to this forum..
I had bought all my parts in a day, and had a friend of mine install/built the computer for me, but I've been having quite alot of problems with the computer itself.

On bootup, it writes that it doesn't have any BIOS installed, so I was wondering if I just install the flash bios thing automatically? or do I have to read the guidelines carefully?

The monitor dies out randomly everytime I boot up my computer, the monitor goes black and the power light blinks. It's weird, but when I try getting into geocities to signup (to upload a picture on my wattage thing, I'll be writing up more details later about the wattage) it shuts off, or when I screw around in World of Warcraft it dies out after awhile(3+ mins). When it dies while in WoW, there's a message on screen showing "Sync. Out of Range".
(I have already set my Power options>power scheme(always on) and turned off hibernation)

I have installed some MSI programs, and one of them showed something strange. PC Alert 4 showed that my wattage (3.3v) was .58(in red numbers). and some of the fan numbers were 0. So I believe it might be something wrong with the wattage/voltage settings?

My ram the 512 corsair doesn't show up as 512 on my computer, but 256. Is it some type of defect? or do I have to do something in BIOS? (because I've looked all over my bios, and couldn't figure it out)

fan problems

dude, i think you have problems with your fan, if the system info said that your fan speeds were at 0, then they werent working, or they were running below the required fan thresh hold. which would explain that when you go and play WoW it uses up a lot of ur cpu power, which heats it up, and above the thresh hold which cuts out your computer. so what you need to do is reposition your fan/fans. ie turn them clockwise or anticlockwise, until they work properly. also if your screen is going blank at a different time, with blinking power lights.(not at the same time as cutting out in Wow) then it may be a bios problem... try the fan/fans first, and then get back to us...

My old computer went out on me after about 4 years so i decided to build my own. I bought all the parts I needed for the computer, and put it all together, turned it on, and all I get is the MSI splash screen/logo. When I press DEL it gives me the option to go to the BIOS but when I save and reboot it doesnt let me do anything.

the current setup i have is:
Rosewill Challenger ATX Midtower Case
MSI NF750-G55 Motherboard
AMD Phenom II x4 955 Black Edition
4GB OCZ DDR3 Memory
500GB Hitachi SATA HDD
500GB Western Digital IDE HDD
Sony Optiarc SATA DVDRW (need power adaptor, buying tomorrow)
450w eMicro PSU
I'm trying to install Windows 7 but I can't get far enough to even get the installation going, I don't have the sata adaptor for the dvd drive yet so I was just trying the IDE dvd drive to install it but still didnt work for Win7 or LInux.

Any ideas on what I could of done wrong? I tried to change the "Hold on all errors" to "Hold on no errors" but that didnt do anything either.. =/

Anyway, I've just completed building my PC, and I power on, and nothing displays on the monitor not even the BIOS. I was initially thinking of buying a Win10 Home key, but I realized I still have a Win7 Pro key I purchased that I have never upgraded to Win10 and is not currently in use.

Two questions

Can I use the Win7 key to activate Win10 (or is that no longer an option)Will Win10 Home turn into Win10 Pro (assuming I can still use key)

Answer:Built new computer, running unactivated Win10 Home, have Win7 Pro key

You will have to upgrade to Windows 10 Pro first by entering the generic Windows 10 Pro product key. Then you can attempt to activate it with the Windows 7 product key.

If that fails, then you can install Windows 7 on a separate partition, activate it, try to upgrade that to Windows 10 and see if it activates.

Long post alert: I felt it better to post as much data as I could now, instead of adding a bunch of posts later.

Hello! I've built a computer, but the Windows install is hitting a little snag. During the install process, the program doesn't identify my hard drive as a suitable place for installation.

I know there are a number of other threads on this topic, but each one seems to have its own solution (or solutions) to the issue, and it's a little overwhelming to decide where to start. If you can give me a link to another that tells me how to fix this, great!

Okay, so I guess I'll start with the equipment specs:

The motherboard is a GIGABYTE GA-Z77X-D3H LGA 1155.

The CPU is an Intel Core i7-3770K.

The hard drive is an HGST HDS721050CLA362 with 500 GB of space.

OS is Windows 7 Home Premium 64b SP1.

That's all the pertinent info, I think. If you need anything else, please feel free to ask.

2) "Windows is loading files..."

3) Install home screen. Selection of language, time, and keyboard method (clicks "next").

4) The "Install now" button (clicks).

5) "Setup is starting..."

6) Agree to license terms.

Backstory (skip if you need)
I'm fixing someones laptop, It was slow and taking 30 minutes to startup, i did the usually virus scan and restarted, then it was stuck in an auto repair loop. I used a windows 8 Install CD from microscoft. None of the options in it would work, install (key doesnt match) reset (missing partition), image recovery (cant find an image), restore (no restore point), etc.
Used command prompt, did stuff like bootrec, bcdedit, diskpart, and chkdsk. After it ran chkdsk it finally loaded windows. I reset/reinstalled the OS completely. Fixed, restarted, running smooth. Owner said it was working great for a day, then after turning it back on it was in an auto repair loop.
It's stuck in a preair loop, I can't even boot from the 8 CD! Have it configured in the bios, it shows the the blue windows logo then the screen goes black for 3 minutes and a blue screen flashes for 1 second saying  "Your PC ran into a problem and need to restart. Collecting some info (0% complete) search online for error: 0x000021a"
The weird thing is, Windows 7 disks boot fine, but it's "not compatible". And if I physically remove the HDD, it will boot into the windows 8 CD. So I put the HDD back in (while still at the command prompt) and it wont take my commands in related to the C: . I get a "System cannot find the drive specified"

Before when I ran it, I'm pretty sure it let me restart and booted into windows, not now.
Next I tried bootrec.
/fixmbr - succesful
/fixboot - succesfull

Next bcdedit
Nothing worked "The boot configuration data store could not be opened. The requested system device cannot be found."
Next sfc /scannow

BCDBoot c:\WindowsFailure when attempting to copy boot files
Next diskpart - but I forgot what I did before that may have worked. All i can remember is I had to select a disk or volume, and do something with it.

Going crazy...please help.

I built my new computer tonight, however it won't start. There is power to the motherboard, because I can hear and see the fans when I turn it on, however the CPU fan doesn't move. It initially spins a rotation or two and that is it. It (fan on CPU) does the same thing when I power it off, just a initial spin but doesn't move. Any ideas...I would be so grateful. Here are my system specs (all bought from Newegg)

Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 Conroe 2.66GHz LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor
GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3L LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard
Rosewill RP550-2 ATX12V v2.01 550W Power Supply
4stick of - G.SKILL 1GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)
APEVIA X-JUPITER-JR G-Type X-JPJGT-BK Black SECC Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Thanks so much!

Answer:Built new computer, normal fans work, but CPU fan doesn't spin, board wont power

Sounds like a power supply problem, or a error in connecting a cable. Thus the shot spin of the cpu fan. But usually you just missed something too obvious to think about.
Reseat all cables. Reseat all memory modules. Then try it with one or two memory modules at a time. Then switch to the others.
Check your CPU for proper seating, and possible bent pin.
When no longer frustrated, think through everything you have done in the setup, even the heat sink and thermal paste.
We have all gone through this. We know has exasperated you must feel.

Hi there, am staying @ my parent's and looking after their house whilst theyre abroad. Yesterday I decided to have a little play on my dads computer which runs on windows xp, I installed the sims duluxe edition and the sims living it up and played on them for about 10mins. Everything was fine, shut down the computer etc. Today I went to turn it on and windows will not even load. The start-up screens come up and it says there was a power-failure could not start properly perhaps due to software/hardware changes. However it wont even start in safe mode, none of the options work the computer just reboots itself and goes back to the same screen. I think there was a power cut last night but am pretty sure its something to do with the game I installed. Please help, my dads going to kill me is I cant sort it out!

Perhaps the easiest way to work around this problem is to create a new User profile and migrate your old files to the new User.

Answer:my computer wont load

In many cases this error has been generated by faulty RAM memory. So if you have just upgraded your computer with some new memory and you started getting this error then I would remove them and see if the error goes away. If it does then send the memory back and get a refund!

I have a computer that will not load windows. I have just installed the os. I went through the blue screen part of the install fine. but when i restart the computer to go inti the other part of setup it goes to the loading screen and halts then there is a blank screen, the comp. never powers off, just stalls at the blank screen.

I heard it could be the hard drive but i ran diagnostics on it in a different comp. and everything was fine.

Thanks in advance.

Can you get to safe mode? Tap f8 on boot to try. Look for a hardware conflict.

Next remove all hardware you can that you dont need, extra drives, sound card, network card and see if it boots. If it does, replace hardware until it does not, which tells you where the problem lies.

Hi my laptop has stopped working. I don't mind so much but there are some music files and word files i would quite like. Basicly it goes as far as the windows black loading screen with the logo etc but then just does that and goes no further. Can anyone help? Thanks!

Answer:Computer wont load up

Your drive may be damaged. If you are computer hardware savy you can buy a external 2.5" hard drive case and mount your laptops hard drive into that and then be able access your data through USB communications to SATA or IDE depending on the type of hard drive your laptop has. Be sure that the system this device is to be plugged into has the latest antivirus to avoid spreading if it is viral.Other than that you can try the windows repair utility that is on the OEM CD that may have come with the laptop and perform a repair or restore ( without formatting ) which would rebuild Windows, but not touch your music etc. Also heard of people using Knoppix Linux Live CD to access data, but if you dont know Linux, then the first 2 ideas are better for you as for to get NTFS support is quite fun and manual.

Lets start from the beginning..this is the kids pc and it wouldn'r boot W2K stating something was missing (I can't remember what this was as I started trying to get this machine going over a month ago)...long story..erased the HD and was going to reload W2K. Would boot up far enough to say it couldnt read drive A. Went into BIOS and changed it to boot to CD only....starts to load and shuts down - then it won't power off.----> Sometimes it will power off to reboot and sometimes not. Once I actually got it to start booting windows to have it stop 1/3 of the way in. So I thought HD...they had a crappy 6.8 gb in there anyway. Replaced HD today added memory and I am still having the same problems. I am thinking power supply, motherboard or processor. Where do I start without feeding excessive money into this project and pulling all my hair out?

Question: Computer wont load

Not sure which forum to post this in as not sure what the problem is.

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro running Windows 7 SP1. It shut down due to Windows updates and when it booted up again it just hung on the Windows icon but wouldn't load. Eventually it asked if I wanted to run a repair which I did but it said it couldn't repair it.
Using F8 I found that I could boot into safe mode, and safe mode with Networking.
I ran the System Scan which said that Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.
I tried to do a restore to a previous point but it said I didn't have any points to restore to.
I then ran a CHKDSK which came back saying volume is clean but just hung for hours. I eventually forced a shutdown but now it wont load at all even in safe mode. When I try to load it, it just hangs whilst loading windows files.

What do I try next? Help.
(I also have no external drives or devices attached)

Answer:Computer wont load

As with many 'proprietary' built computers, you don't get a DVD of Windows ... which makes it near impossible to recover from disasters such as you are experiencing ... instead, you were expected to make your own 'recovery' disks. Your manual would/does tell you how.

If you don't have a set of recovery disks, then I can only advise contacting Toshiba, or, maybe install Linux.

a warining popped up saying that a unkown file was trying to access my pc i selected dont allow and it came back up again i did this about 10 time then it went black and would not up load again unless it was in safe mode.

Answer:why wont my computer load up?

try to download malwarebyes antimalware and spybot search and destroy in safe mode ,and destroy and install them(in safe mode) if they wont install change their installing files to random names like s87rh54sf45.exe or 8wb57y6897.exe and install them and run them if they wont run, goto the place were you installed them and change their .exe file names to something random too and run them and scan with them and remove any viruses found. Then try to start in normal mode.If it wont start up after that buy a windows vista disc and repair your existing vista installation(it wont change your files and settings) or upgrade to win 7.
