Flashing Yellow Light on the power button...

Question: Flashing Yellow Light on the power button...

Hi there,My son's computer recently started having this problem in which, after 5 minutes of the computer running, and running fine at that, it suddenly closes down immediately, but yet, is not switched off: the power button which usually is a constant green starts to slowly flash yellow and the only way to stop this is to switch the computer off. Whenever he switches it back on it does the same thing, works fine for 5 minutes and then switches to nothing but the flashing yellow light, we have even tried it in safe mode and the same thing happens.Just to give some info which might help you, the computer is a Dell Dimension 5000 running windows xp home edition. The last time before the problem started, the computer had been left on for around 20 hours, and this has been happening for around 12 hours now. He did replace his graphics card recently, but that was 3 months ago and he hasn't noticed anything wrong with it in that timeIs this easily fixable or will a professional have to be brought in, and if so would it just be worth backing up the necessary dataand buying a laptop to replace it, as he is off to university in a couple of years so will need a new computer soon anyway.Well thank you in advance, just ask if you need anymore information about the computer, i'll do my best. Thanks!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

I just received my replacment AC adaptor. I put my battery back in and plugged the laptop in, but when i push the power button the battery indicator light flashes red four times. There are no lights on. Does this mean my battery is fried. Originally i thought the jack needed replaced, but the guy told me it was just my cord which Best Buy confirmed. So after getting the new cord i have this new problem. Usally there is a battery indicator light on when the battery is in and it is plugged in. I tryed taking out the battery, unplugging it and holding the power button down, but that didnt work. I also tryed it without the battery in. Is my battery just bad? Thanks for any help.

Thank you,

Answer:Solved: battery indicator light flashing red when power button on my laptop is pushed

Try plugging the laptop in and then push the power button. I have had the same thing happen to me when the laptop would only work when I had it plugged in. I had to replace the battery.

Hi, I am asking this question for a friend of mine. They came home from a vacation and inadvertanly left the computer on and it went into a reduced power mode. They tried unplugging to reset and possibly clear out static. None of these things have worked. They hit the power button on the computer and it immediately says"entering reduced power mode". What do they do to 'wake' it up? It is a Dell 5150 desktop computer. Thank you in advance!

Answer:Yellow flashing light on computer

Have you tried flicking the switch on the back of the power supply off for a minute and then back on againg? Just make sure the computer is unplugged when you do it.

I'm getting a slow flashing light on my tower.  I looked inside and the fans are all running but I don't hear the hard drive spinning.  Prior to this the computer shut itself down and was never able to restart.  I can't get far enough to get in safe mode.  Gateway FX almost a year old with dual core quad processor.

Answer:slow flashing yellow light on tower

Give the exact model number. This light is probably a code for what is wrong.

A 2008's Acer V193HQ screen started behaving as follow: I start my pc and one of the 2 screens (dual screen on a ATI 5770 HD) won't start, instead the yellow (stand-by) led starts flashing for quite a while until suddenly blue led turns blue and the screen starts. I already ruled out everything but the screen, so, it's the monitor. Some advice?

Answer:Acer V193HQ Monitor won't start, yellow light flashing

Hi if it's the monitor you would be better off just getting another monitor in my opinion. Unless the monitor is under warranty then have it fixed under the warranty.

I have a compaq presario 6000 series desktop bought in december 2002. I am running winXP with SP2. I recently went to turn on my computer pressing the on button, and the little light to the left (there is second light to the right of the on/off button) of the on/off switch started blinking red with a regular rythm. I depressed the button, holding it for a count to ten, then let go and pressed the on button again. The left little light blinked green once, then started blinking red again. I repeated this prodedure until one time I pressed the on button and the computer turned on like normal. If I turn off my computer in my normal way, (click on "start", then click on "turn off computer", then "turn off") this scenario repeats itself every time. I am concerned that one of these times the computer will never turn on.

But... if I turn off the computer in another way, everything seems normal. If I depress the on/off switch, hold it for a count of ten, everything seemingly turns off just fine. The little light to the left of the on/off button stays on and is green, but everything else seems to be off like normal. There is no shutting down process that I can notice. But the next morning, I can depress the on button and everything proceeds like it did when the computer was new.

Can I keep shutting off my computer this way, or am I causing some unseen damage? Is ther any way to get it working like it used to?

Answer:Flashing red light by tower on/off button

I would suspect that the PC is in some sort of hibernate mode.

Boot up the PC and right click anywhere on the desktop Select Properties>Screen Saver tab> and under the Energy Saving Features you should find the modes which can be selected. Pick the one you want from there.

And no you aren't causing any damage.

Hi. Tonight I had a problem with my laptop. It was in sleeping mode, and when I open the lid there were no mouse function and no touch screen function. So the only thing I could do was to press the power button for 3 seconds to turn it off, but it didn't completely, because the screen turn off, but the power button light is blinking just like when it is on sleep mode, and I'm not sure if the hard drive light was on, off or blinking before this, but now is blinking. I press the power button and nothing happen, I press it for 3 seconds and nothing happen. I even did the HDMI connection to another monitor, but both monitors don't show anything, not even recognize that something is connected to the HDMI port in the new monitor. There is no sound, nothing, just the 2 blinking lights. What should I do? Thanks PS: I'm not sure if it's Windows 10 32-bit or 64-bit. It was upgraded from Windows 8

I have 2 old Windows 98 computers (A Gateway and Compaq) that I received a few months ago. I played with them a bit, cleaned them up and put them in a box. :cool

I got the Gateway back out today, hooked everything up, and pressed the power button. The keyboard flashed once, and the power light remained yellow. No display, fans, beeps, nothing. Okay, something must be wrong with the power supply. Its original went out with a bang and the one in it was probably on its last legs.

So I get the other one out and hook it all up, press power button, and the power light remains yellow. Again no fans, sounds, nothing but the keyboard flashing once. :confused

What does a constant yellow power light mean?

Answer:Yellow power light - What does this mean?

Have you tried disconnecting all connections and reinserting to ensure a good contact?
Possibly also the CMOS battery is dead. Cheap and easy to replace.

Hi Wacky78900,
Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
I?m sorry to hear that your Y500 Laptop is not turning ON after playing game and turning OFF manually, I suggest you to perform the Flee-Power and check the issue. Below are the steps to check and resolve the issue:

Remove the battery and any other peripheral device connected to the computer.
Hold the power button for 10-15 seconds and then connect only the AC Adapter and try to turn ON the computer.

If the issue persists even after performing the Flee-Power and as the computer is in warranty, I would Strongly Suggest Calling Technical Support for Assistance. Click here to open a link where you can select the country and get the exact contact support number. I?m sure they will be a great help.
Do post us back for further queries.

I have a Toshiba laptop that I got from a mate, when I push the power button it flashes a green light as if it is going to go on but then on the DC power light starts to flash yellow. I have looked this up but wanted to make sure it was right...

I got told that there were 3 batteries on the laptop the main one the bios one and another one. I have looked at other logs on here and tried gettin it to work just off the mains but the same thing happens.

How would I go about gettin it fixed or what could be the problem?

Answer:DC power light flash yellow - Satellite Pro 6070

It dose not sounds very optimistically? The DC IN indicator glows usually green when the DC power is supplied from the AC power adaptor.
But if the adaptors output voltage is abnormal or if the power supply malfunctions, this indicator flashes orange.

Either there is something wrong with power supply electronic on the motherboard or the AC adaptor malfunctions.
In my opinion it?s the first possibility and in such case I don?t think that you will be able to fix it yourself.
I?m afraid the technician advice and help is needed :(

first of all, i use a powerstrip for my computer. on this powerstrip i have just my little speakers and my alarm clock hooked up. i got home today and i unplugged everything to bring it into another room. (because i had just reformated it and my linksys wireless wasnt working and i was gona call them, anyways...) i pluged the power cord right into the wall, pressed the power button, and no go. i checked the cord and it was pluged in, then i noticed the power light (right under the cord connection in the back) was flashing (not rapidly, like once a second, idk if that matters). i brought it back into my room and pluged it in where i always had and it still wouldnt power up. the only thing i can think of is that my powersupply might have got a surge, so before i buy one, i thought there might look into other possible answers. any suggestions would be appreciated! thanks  notes: the computer was off when i unplugged iti dont know anything about power supplies. hahaif u need any info on it though i can provide it (i do know where that is)

Hello all, my I-INC monitors' power light blinks from time to time and I'd like to know if anyone has suggestions as to what that might mean. The monitor hasn't stopped working (YET) but I would like to know if it's a major concern.

OKAY, I just pushed the cables to check whether they were loose and the blinking has stopped. Still, by contacting this forum I backed into the solution:-D

I came back to my computter after a few hours- the CPU had powered down Sori for the long gab, here it comes--

I poweredup and there is 30 seconds of HDD activity (normally 120 secs), the power button light on the front panel is blinking at me (it's usually steady), and there is no apparent bootup. My monitor stays blank except for the "On Screen Display" setup menu. Keyboard inputs have no effect, like Cntl/Alt/Del achieves nothing. No F5 or F8 to safe mode.

My digits are crossed that Disaster may not have struck, cuz:

3 hours before it auto-powered down, i had upped the display to just 1024x768 from 800x600, using the same Nvidia "optimal" refresh rate, and used it for an hour with no apparent problems.

Both my monitor, a Princeton Ultra 73e 17" CRT, and video card, a Nvidia/Jaton GeForce2 MX400 3D, claim to easily handle that measly 1024x768 rez. Everything is 3 years old, tho 'should' have many hours left.

I haven't yet swapped monitors/cpus, cuz that is going to be a lousy dismemberment of my wall cabinets. Anyone have an idea about the blinking power light on the CPU. {i fear the worst, but i'm a pissimist}

Answer:Flashing Power Light CPU, ruh-roh?

Your probably going to have to open up your case. Are the fans spinning? Also, you may have to try a different cpu.(I know you dont want to) If it works with another cpu, then you know. If the fans arent spinning, i would try new ones. Swapping Power supplys if available. If all else fails, im thinking your mobo died.

I have A Dell Dimension 4400. It's been a pain in the butt to power on lately. Mainly I keep it on. Every now and then my video display screen goes wacky and the resolution changes by itself and the icons get BIGGER.. So I reboot..

It takes 15 - 20 tries to get started (thats just why I leave it on).. Nevertheless, the power light seems to stay yellow and I simply walk away. 15 -20 min later it just boots up. No idea why it takes so long..

Well about 2hrs ago the display went nuts. Lost all the color. I took apart the PC and not surprised, The video card was very LOOSE (almost out) I took EVERY connection inside the PC apart and cleaned them. I reseated every cable & card in the system. Everything's nice and tight.

I go to reboot (power up) and the Yellow (amber) light comes on the power botton. No beeps, No green lights, all 4 lights on the back of the PC are Out, No fans run, no CD light, No CD power. Just a Yellow (amber) solid light on the power button.

At this point I open back up the box and take put the button cell battery (waite 10 min) then put back. I took ALL the connections off for the second time, and all is tight. I power up, same thing. Yellow (amber) light. No beeps no nothing.. I even changed out power cords and different outlets..

The Power Supply fan is about 1yr old (i'm sure that means nothing) About the only thing I dident do is the Jumper test for Power Supply..

Any thoughts?
Superlost :cry

Answer:Dell Dimension 4400 yellow (amber) light NO POWER

PSU or motherboard issues. Sound to me like dead PSU but the fact that you have the amber light on the front says that you are getting some sort of powerfrom your PSU.

1. Test your PSU with a multi meter. A good guide can be found here

2. Look on your motherboard for the green power LED that identified that your MB is getting power (Note: it usually a small rectangular LED not a big traditional round one).

If your PSU has power on the 24pin ATX connector and the power LED on your MB is out you have a dead MB

3. It could simply be that the power push button has become disconnected, is broken or is on the wron connector. Consult your motherboard manual to find out what pins it should be connected to. make sure it is connected properly. If it is connected properly remove the connecter and short the two pins with a paper clip (This has the same effect as pushing the push button) and it should boot your PC.

Hope this helps.

EDIT: I you dont have you MB manual post you make and model and we will do the rest!!

Well, I'm guessing power supply here? When I hit the power button, no fan, nothing, just a slight "clicking" noise and the flashing yellow (some say orange) light. From what I've read it sounds like the power supply went belly up. How do I know: 1) which power supply to get to replace this one, and 2) is it worth it? I bought it second hand for $40 about 1-1/2 years ago so there is no shame in it, just not sure whether I should put any $$ in it at this point. Any thoughts? Thanks.

My g570 laptop is 4 years old, so probably time for a new one...BUT I'd like to get some more life out of this if I could.  Currently I'm running only on battery power. The power button (upper left right above the F1 key) is solid white however when I plug it'll start charging for about 10 seconds and then it stops charging and the power button starts flashing white.  I've tried the shutting down, taking out the battery and pressing the power button and also holding the button to discharge. Still the same outcome. I've also tried turning it on with the battery removed and just the AC power source and it turns out and makes it past the Lenovo splash screen but loses power before getting to the windows loading screen.  Any other suggestions? Or should I just assume the charging circuit on the motherboard has failed and I should rescue my data while I can?

Battery/mains light which is normally either red needing battery charge or green when fully charged has suddenly started flashing red.
Any suggestions please

Answer:Asus lap top power light flashing red

Whats the power level showing on the laptop, just using the battery. Then check with power lead to the mains connected.
You might find that a possible check, is to run the battery down, then try a full
recharge. If this doesn't improve the situation, then a new battery might be required, or alternatively it might be something else, which another member might know about.
Perhaps a read from this article might also help (from a Google search). click here

Can anyone tell me what's going on with my monitor?
I have an HP Pavilion M70 monitor.
My power light keeps flashing and there's a clicking
sound (sounds like a relay clicking). Pressing the power
button or any other button does nothing.

Answer:Power light on HP Pavilion M70 keeps flashing

Sounds like a power supply shutdown. It happens when there is a major component failure which causes the power supply to keep resetting and trying again (the "clicking" you hear)

Needs servicing or scrapping.
Monitors are usually not often worth fixing these days, unless it is very minor (and that does not sound minor)

I bought my XPS8900 a couple weeks ago, and immediately upgraded the memory to 32GB.
Everything worked fine, but I then decided to upgrade the video card to an EVGA GeForce GTX970 SSC.
This card requires both a 6 and an 8 pin power connector which the stock Dell PSU doesn't provide. So rather than return the video card, I upgraded the PSU to a Corsair CX750M, which I've read other XPS8900 users have had success with in this machine.
As others have reported, this PSU is a tight fit, but I was able to get it installed. As soon as I powered it on, my problems began.
The case and CPU fans spin, I can hear the HDD spinning up, and I can open and close the dvd tray. So I know the PSU is at least providing some power. But I get no video, and the power indicator on the top of the case flashes an amber pattern.
I've tried reverting back to the stock dell PSU and video card, but still have the exact same issue.
I've also tried unplugging the power cable and holding the power button for 30 sec. But still, the power light flashes the amber pattern.
I know there are no beep codes for the XPS 8900, and that the power light's amber flash pattern is used instead to diagnose the issue, but I haven't been able to locate any reference to what the patterns indicate.
The power indicator flashes a 2 - 7 pattern, and repeats.
Does anyone know what this means?

Answer:XPS 8900 Flashing Power Light

I had ripped everything out with no luck. Well, everything except the upgraded memory. It had been working, so I didn't think it would be necessary to remove it. But I was wrong.
I reverted back to the stock memory and the blinking amber light problem went away!
Then I re-installed the new memory, and it also worked!
So I guess it was just that the memory needed to be re-seated.
Not sure if the 2 - 7 pattern means "Memory issue", but that would be my guess.
Since the XPS 8900 doesn't support beep codes, I hope Dell will eventually publish what the flashing light patterns mean.

An elderly neighbour turned this monitor off at the wall socket. Now, when turned on, the leds around the power switch light yellow briefly - then flashes blue 4 times then steady blue for about 15 secs. The cycle then repeats. It looks to me as though it needs a reset somehow. Google not too much help. I've tried holding a combination of the front buttons while powering on to no effect.Anyone any ideas, please?

Greetings all, Shaun here, new to the forum.
Thought I would post this, so someone somewhere may see it one day, and it may help them. Also, maybe someone here has an idea as to what may be causing this, as I don't believe i have fixed the underlying issue, just allowed myself to continue using my machine for the time being.
So, got up this morning, made my coffee, went to the desktop - Dell Dimension 9150. Hit the power button, NOTHING. Looked at the button, and it was flashing amber, probably once every 4-5 seconds.
Great. Opened it up, checked all connections. Unplugged, held power button for 20 seconds or so, until the green LED on the MB went off. Unplugged all peripherals, plugged back in, same deal.
Opened up spare, non working PC, that has a known good power supply (700 watt), threw that into the Dell. Sane deal. Started reading different forums. Decided to try jumping the green wire on the main power cable (24 pin), WHILE PC IS PLUGGED IN. I found, that as long as I would hold the jumper into the green / black wires, it would start the fans up, everything sounded like it was starting up. Problem is, I was nervous, as I didn't know if this was going to damage anything, so i didn't want to sit there and hold it for any longer than I needed to. Well, as soon as I took out the jumper, the PC would go right back to being OFF, indefinitely.
Original power supply back into the Dell.

I have a Dell Inspiron 530 (desktop) with Vista Home Premium. Until the other day, when I pushed the power button to start the PC, it turned blue and the PC went through the boot-up process. Now, it turns yellow and nothing happens unless I do more. So I push and hold the power button until it turns off. Then, I push the button a bit more strongly and it turns blue and boots.

My first thought was that the power switch for this 2008 PC is getting old and that I may become unable to boot at all. So I have decided to just let it go into sleep mode for now rather than turning it off for the day.

Any ideas on solving the yellow light issue?

Answer:Power button turns yellow instead of blue

It's an error indicator (not a failing switch).

Depending on the model, there may be other error indicators as well. In any case, q quick search found this: Inspiron 530 steady amber power light. - General Hardware - Desktop - Dell Community

I bought a computer from quantex, the company that went out of business, and after disconnecting my computer and moving to a new apartment - I found that when I reconnected my computer - my computer didn't work.

The monitor acted as if it wasn't attached to the computer, and the computer didn't "tick" like it usually does when loading windows. The only thing I got was a flashing "power light". The "database write" light was also on, but it was constant"

I think its a loose connection inside the tower.

How is the best way to fix it.

Answer:only flashing power light - No display - no windows

Hello, I'm trying to figure out if the power supply on my hp is bad or not. The green light on back of the tower is flashing and the computer won't turn on. I've tried all of the preliminary things and nothing works -- the green light keeps blinking until I disconnect the large plug to the motherboard, then the light stays on and doesn't blink. Once I have the power cord disconnected and the main plug to the motherboard disconnected as well, I then have tried replugging the power cord and then replugging the main plug to the motherboard (kind of trying to jump start it), the fan tries to come one (but only for a second, then goes back off, so it won't boot).Does anyone know if this means that the power supply is bad or if something else might be wrong? I'm wondering if the power supply would be bad when the computer is clearly trying to start, but not quite making it.

Answer:no power and green light on my hp pavilion is flashing

If the PSU blinks it needs to be reset.unplug the electrical cable from the wall and the PSU.move the red voltage selector to the opposite position it is in and then slide it back. If you live in the USA 120Vac-->220Vac-->120Vac see the image below.  After you have done this you can plug the power cable back into the PSU.  Connect the power cable to the wall power. If the PSU is still serviceable it will no longer be blinking. Best regards, erico Edited to fix the broken image link.

I have a lenovo twist running windows 8.1. This computer will be running run fine but will freeze then come right back. It also will not wake up from a sleep at times and the only way to get it back on is to cut all power or hold down the power button until it shuts off. It just started not being able to do some of the windows updates.

Answer:Will not wake from a sleep power light just keeps flashing

When did you install 8.1? The reports show that your OS was installed a month before it was released.

No further info in the reports, and the last BSOD was from Nov 2013.
Please do the following:
- open Event Viewer (run eventvwr.msc from the "Run" dialog))
- expand the Custom Views category (left click on the > next to the words "Custom Views")
- right click on Administrative Events
- select "Save all Events in Custom View as..."
- save the file as Admin.evtx
- zip up the file (right click on it, select "Send to", select "Compressed (zipped) folder")
- upload it with your next post (if it's too big, then upload it to a free file-hosting service and post a link here).

Help! After sucessfully using my A920 Dell All-in-One printer for two years with Dimension 4600 XP, I am now receiving the "printer cannot communicate with computer" message. This change occurred in the midst of a printing project. The power light continually flashes (this is not a jammed, out-of-paper, etc. warning). The driver has been uninstalled & then reinstalled several times, cable & power cords have been checked, unplugged & replugged multiple times. Could this indicate that the printer is just worn out? My power light on my Portege M200 flashes amber 10000110 ( or _ . . . . _ _ . in Morse) what does it mean?

It starts to flash when I try to power on and will not finish until I take both battery and power supply out.
It will flash even if I start without battery!

Answer:Flashing power light on Portege M200

When the notebook has a problem with power supply (board electronic), sends hexadecimal code.
In your case there are two problems:

- To know what this code means you must know exactly how to read this code. The binary code must be converted to the hexadecimal code and then you could compare the code with the description in the maintenance manual.
- Maintenance manual is not a public document.

Unfortunately there is nothing you can do alone. please contact nearest Toshiba authorized service provider and let them check your notebook.

Gateway DX4640 desktop froze in the middle of viewing

It required a hard re-boot. Now I get a slow flashing power light. Fan starts but it won?t boot. I tried bootable CD with no success, although the CD drive does spin when a CD is inside.

We tried the following:
1. unplugging power and then depressing power bottom for a minute to discharge battery.
2. pulling out the memory cards one at a time, and then booted with just one memory card at a time without success.
3. removed battery and reinserted after 10 minutes

I would appreciate any advice you might have.

Answer:Slow Flashing power light – no boot

This is a common issue with Gateway machines, it is down to the onboard Video chip overheating and failing, though this mostly happens with laptops!! have you got a spare vid card lying around or can you borrow one from another machine and try it in agp/pci/pcie expansion slot, to rule it out ??

I have just been handed a computer from my next door neighbour, it seems to be a home build (or a computer shop build) so im unsure of the exact specs as it is not booting, they are telling me that until yesterday it was working fine... but now it will not start..

All I can tell from opening it up is that it is XP, has an Eagle power supply, a winfast motherboard and 512mb of Dan electric Ram..

when you switch the system on all the fans start and the hard drive spins up, but then there is one beep and the green power led on the front of the case goes from constant green to flashing green and nothing else happens..

I have removed and checked the HD wich is fine, I have reseated the RAM and even changed it from DIMM 1 to DIMM 2, but none of this makes any difference..

Could it be a power supply fault or a Motherboard fault?? or even a graphics card fault?? how can I find out which it is??

I have asked my neighbours if they still have the user manuals but they claim they threw them out when they moved in about 3 years ago...

Can anyone help??

Many Thanks

A user of our decided to give her laptop a little drink, admittedly her office is quite warm but personally I don't think it was that thirsty.

Luckily it was only water she threw over it rather than any sugary/caffinated PCB eating liquid though it was switched on at the time.

Dismantled it the best I could and left it to dry yesterday, most of the impact seems to be the front left (hard-drive bay was swimming) so the chip on the far right and memroy in the middle seem to have avoided any water entry.

This morning when i reconnected everything it, farily predicatably, didn't switch back on from battery power. When I plugged the mains in (at arms length) the mains indicator started flashing orange - two short, one long, two short, one long and then two short.

Have had a quick flick through the user manual and the only reference to the flashing orange PSU light is for overheating and that inferes there's no pattern to the flashig, just that it will continue until it reaches a safe temp.

I'm pretty sure the wee thing is borked but was wondering what the power light indicated and then by extension if that means there's any parts I can salvage as spares (like it may denote the memory's still ok or the chip and such).

Answer:Flashing Power Light on Tecra A3X (PTA3XE)

Hm, sounds the motherboard was screwed up. I am not sure, but if you?re really sure that everything is connected well and so on, it should work.
Maybe the motherboard did get a little splash from that "drink-action".

The problem with liquids and notebooks is they won?t collaborate together and after some "liquid-spilling" times a PCB can get a short-circuit from any device which had contact with the liquid.

My opinion: PCB is gone. But thats just a theory. :)

I just bought a M100 laptop a few weeks back and it's been fine. The other day I was fiddling with the Toshiba Password Utility which I ran from within XP. I set a password on it for what I think was the power on function. I then restarted the machine and lo and behold it no longer boots.

When I turn it on, the power light (2nd from the left, between the AC-in and battery) turns on green as normal for a split second, then flashes orange in a steady on off pattern. There is no display, no hard disk activity, and it won't power off unless I hold the button for 10 seconds. The fan also seems to blow on high speed straight away, which doesn't normally happen.

I've tried it with and without battery, without hard drive, without RAM and without cmos battery. Same problem every time! I can't even get to the TOSHIBA boot splash screen.

Someone pleeease help me. I'm at a loss as to what else it could be. Also, no-one on the net seems to have reported this problem before.

Thanks in advance to anyone that can help.

More details: The capslock button light doesn't respond but the FN key light does. Pressing any button on the keyboard results in a slightly delayed beep.

Answer:M100 - Flashing power light (not ac or battery).

Well, first of all the Toshiba Password Utility allows you to set the two levels of password security ? user password and supervisor password. This feature prevents unauthorized access to your computer.
Which password did you set?
As far as I know there are two ways to start the computer:
Insert a password token before you turn on the computer. The computer will start normally, without displaying a password prompt or enter the password manually.

Furthermore the second light from the left side is a power indicator. It glows green when the computer is on. If you turn off the computer in resume mode, this indicator blinks orange (one second on, two second off) while the computer shuts down.

Well, I don?t know why you can?t boot the unit, but please check also the password settings in the BIOS. There you can try to delete this password.

So i've had my Gateway 300SE for a few years now. Around november, 2005 the computer seemed to have a problem. I left one night while leaving it on, came home and the power button was yellow. I figured it was in sleep mode, but it never seemed to turn back on. ever.
So I just bought a laptop and figured it had died.

Well, now I have to get back on that computer. I'm a graphic designer and realized my whole portfolio that I am in desperate need of now is loaded onto the hard drive of that computer. So, is there any way I could get the computer fixed... or does anyone know what possibly the problem could be? I figured something was fried in it. I'm no computer whiz, so I have no idea what to do. The only thing I can think of is to download all my old stuff off that hard drive onto a new one or whatever (I did that once but forget how, i could learn though). I'd really like to get the computer up and working though, because a computer is a computer... it'd save me some money.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Answer:Gateway 300SE has yellow power button & won't turn on

Well the most likely posibilities are the Powersupply and the Motherboard. First inspect the motherboard and any other components for phyiscal signs that they have been fried (burn Marks, burnt smell). If no phisical damage is seen replace the powersupply
Here are some links to replacements.

A 300W powersupply should be suficent but has limited upgradeibility

I recomend one of the 350W powersupplies below

I'm having a problem with my computer monitor. It used to be okay but somehow the computer monitor power button is not green now, instead it's yellow, therefore there's nothing on the screen. I checked the power cable and connection to the cpu and it seems alright. I also shut down the computer and monitor and waited for a minute, the computer booted fine but when I turned on the monitor power button, it was green for a few seconds and then turned yellow.

Can somebody tell me what seems to be the problem with my monitor? And how would you suggest to fix it?
Thank you much.

Answer:Computer Monitor Power Button Stays Yellow

Check the cable from the monitor to the video adapter at the back of the case. Then you'll need to try another monitor. If it works the problem is inside the case. Making sure your video card if you have one is secure or trying another one would be next.

So several months ago my laptop started to have a problem where periodically the power light would begin flashing as well as the charging light. The power light would blink a while color that it normally is and the charging light would blink orange. When this happens the battery will stop charging, but will occasionally resume if I unplug and replug the power. I don't think this is a battery related problem because if I try to boot up my latpop without the battery in, it will get half way through then it will just shut off. I should note that when the battery is plugged in I have the flashing light problem during start up but it will usually be fixed with unplugging and replugging the power cord a time or two. This is a really frustrating problem and really limits what I can use my laptop for these days and I'd like to see if it's something that can be fixed at a reasonable cost.

I am dazed with this problem. Trying to find the solution on all the forums.

My brother owns a Dell Desktop computer and suddenly it stopped working.

- The Power button light is flashing continuously.
- The green light on the motherboard is perfectly on.
- The port light where the telephone wire goes and the usb port next to it on the motherboard is blinking continuously.
- The processor is not starting.
- If I remove the power cord, the lights mentioned above and same for 15 seconds.

What must be the possible problem.

MAny Thanks in advance

Answer:Dell PC not starting: amber flashing power light

You would be dazed again, because this is probably caused by a failing power supply. The blinking power button is a good clue. The green LED on the motherboard simply means that you have a power cord plugged in... It could be a bad motherboard too, but power supplies are easier to replace and cheaper to start with

amber usually means sleep mode. flashing can mean different things. Disconnect the video cable, turn it off, pull the power plug, wait 10 seconds, plug it in and turn it on. Press the OSD buttons to see if you can bring up the on screen display. If that comes, up try connecting it again. Hopefully the PC is not sending out a bad video signal.

I can't get my computer to boot at all, not into CMOS, not anything. It doesn't power up. And the green LED light that comes with the power supply is constantly flashing.

This has happened before, normally when I wait a while before trying to boot, I can get the fan inside the power supply to spin just a little bit. The last time it happened, I fixed it by taking out one of the memory sticks.

I have no other power supply to test, so I don't know whether it's a problem with the motherboard, or the power supply. However, I notice that when the 24-count connector pin isn't connected to the motherboard, the light doesn't flash, it just stays lit green. When I plug it in, it starts flashing again. Maybe it's the motherboard, maybe the pins are bad, I'm not sure what that suggests.

Is there anything I can do to diagnose this clearer?

trying to turn on toshiba tecra a8 laptop. the light on the power button flashes twice amber and once green and it won;t start up.

any suggestions?

Answer:Tecra A8: Power light flashing amber twice and won't boot

Remove the battery and (try) to start the notebook only with AC-Adaptor connected.
If your A8 behaves the same you have to bring it to service.

Hi & Thanks for reading my question,

I have a Dell e510 I am trying to fix for a friend. When power is turned on, the power light flashes green for an instant, then continues to flash amber. Nothing at all appears on the monitor. It goes to flashing amber in a sec or 2.

I have unplugged all the components and removed the memory so that I have just the motherboard and video card. I have replaced the Power supply. I have remocved the CMOS battery. Still having the problem. Is it possible that a bad or no hard drive (I have the power unplugged to the hard drive at this point). Would cause a Dell E510 not to POST.

hi,my first post here,i have an iqon desktop pc,until yesterday the power button led was alway static ,but yesterday it started flashing. Is this normal or does it mean there is a fauld,or is it just a change in the settings, sometimes it does stay on but then starts flashing again.thank you

Answer:flashing power button

Are you sure it is the Power button and not the Hard drive LED. It is normal for the Hard drive LED to flash when data is being read or written.

I have a 3-4 year old Compaq Presario SR2017CL desktop and recently (maybe a month or so ago) the power-on button (green) began flashing when the computer goes into hibernation. I saw this a year or so ago and there was usually an update to Adobe, Microsoft, iTunes, etc. that needed installing. I've checked all those and can't find anything to explain the infernal blinking! I even downloaded an update to the BIOS and that didn't do any good, either. Can you think of any reason for the light to blink? It's actually the lighted power on button and not an indicator inside the box. Other recent changes I've made to the system: removed Norton Antivirus using the registry since there was no uninstall for the program (also a puzzle to me????) and uninstalled my Kodak printer for reasons I won't go into right now. Would appreciate and help you can give.

Hello,   I recently noticed that my Lenovo B590 Laptop Power Indicator Light has been flashing orange. I tried restarting the laptop and making sure all the plugs are secure but nothing seems to effect it. What does the power indicator light flashing orange mean? ~ Laila

Answer:Lenovo B590 Laptop Power Light Flashing Orange

Good day and welcome to the community.
Please have a look at page 7 of your B590 User Guide:
for a description of the color / blink 'codes'.
Basically, a slow orange blink means that the battery is between 5 and 20% charged (and charging). It should change to a slow green blink at 20%.
Hope this helps a bit.

My sister-in-law has an eMachine that she turned off and unplugged before leaving for vacation. A week later she returned and plugged it back in only to find it won't turn on. I don't know much about this pc other than it's a tower and about 3 or so years old. I figured it was probably the PSU (power supply) but wanted to verify as many things as possible. Basically, there is a green light on the back of the pc (on the PSU) that will flashes on and off when you try to turn on the computer. The PSU fan doesn't spin and nothing else makes any attempt to turn...just dead.

I pulled all the power connectors and jumpered the power switch pins (15-16), this gave me a solid green light on the PSU and the fan spun normally. I tested with a voltmeter and got the proper voltage on all the pins. I am thinking that this probably rules out the PSU but not 100% as something could be 'pulling it down'???

Any ideas on what else to look at? I hate to buy a PSU when it appears this one is ok. That pretty much leaves the MoBo and/or CPU. I've pulled all the cards and memory trying to get it to do anything and nothing affects it. I suspect there is something wrong with the MoBo but don't know how to verify that.

Any help or advice is appreciated. Thanks!

Answer:eMachine power supply (PSU) green light flashing, won't turn on

What you need is a PSU Tester which you can get on eBay that will tell you if the power supply is bad.

The battery can be fully charged and the power cable can be in but no matter what the light is flashing 4 times red then 1 white continuously.
Any way to stop it?

Answer:Inspiron 1545 Power Light Constantly Flashing 4 Red then White

Are you able to turn on the system ?
I believe by power light you meant the battery charging indicator.
If you are able to load into OS, Update your BIOS.
Here is the link to BIOS for your system.

Hello, Last month a message from lenovo power manager software pops up on the laptop, saying something like my power adapter needs to be replaced it is not providing enough. It continued to work for a few days before stop charging at all. When I plugged in to AC power, my Yoga would start charging for 2 seconds and stop. If I took out the plug and reconnect, it just did the same and not charge. While plugged in, the laptop charging icon disappears after the 2 initial seconds and the power light on my pc flashes steadly on/off amber. I managed to order this power adapter here before out of battery. When I received the adapter my Yoga started charging again with no problem. The next day however, my screen went black and stop working. Warrenty out dated, so I openned the machine and found a loose screw from the fan, put it back and by magic the screen is working again. The next day I plug in my laptop, let it charges for a few hours. When I turn it on the charging icon disappears again. Same thing as before, not charging with flashing amber light. I noticed that when unplugged, the light would go to solid white like normal. So I have 70% battery left before I feel like just throwing this thing in the trash! I couldn't find anybody with the same problem. I was wondering if updating the BIOS could help but when I tried a message came up "Please plugin and try again", Great...! Someone please help!

Answer:Yoga 2 13 - stopped charging - power light flashing amber

Hi pjz,
Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
I would suggest try isolating if Battery or AC is causing this problem.
First is to try removing the battery on your Yoga
Here's is a simple guide.
Now while there is no battery Try plugging your adapter and try turning the computer ON.
It should power up using only the AC adapter.
If it did not.
Your problem lies with the the power System, COuld be the charging port. Try observing the Port or follow the wire that runs to it.
If the computer power up without the Battery in it, without any problem. This is a problem with your battery.
Let me know your findings

Hi All I have a B320 which will not power on all that happens is the power button is flashing, has any one come across this if so please help. Thanks

Answer:B320 power button flashing

Some suggest unplugging the power cord at the back for a minute and then try it.  It gives a reset to the circuitry I guess.  My tv has the same problem now and then.

My laptop has been distrubing since yesterday. Whenever I put in the power chord, the power light and battery light starts flashing together and the laptop does not charge. When I remove the chord, the flashing disapperas. Occassionally, it charges a little before going out again.  I tried using the laptop without the battery. It sometimes does not start and other times, it goes into the first few seconds of booting (the BIOS page) before going out again.  Do you guys know what this code indicates? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

The problem is in the thread title; normally my PS_SW light stays a solid yellow and I'm able to boot up no problem. After moving my computer around the house a bit, when I plugged everything in the light was flashing yellow and is now unable to boot up. All the build information (including motherboard info) is in my profile. I looked through the manual for my motherboard (available here: GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket 1155 - GA-Z77X-UD5H (rev. 1.0) ) and it was totally useless. It does not seem to be blinking in any pattern, just a steady blink on and off. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated--I'm really out of my depth here.

Answer:Motherboard power light (PS_SW) is flashing and system wont boot up

Check inside the computer to see if any connections came loose or unplugged.

Hello guys i hope someone can help me. My desktop stoped working and it showed me the amber power light.
First i cleaned the inside of the desktop from dust. I checked the battery it was fine ( 3V as indicated) then i checked rams. Also fine. Checked the video card also fine. Then i figured maybe it's the power supply. I jumped it and it worked the fan works and most of the outputs are fine. Then i tried to plug only the 24pin conector on the the mobo , it worked fine the fan kept spinning the HDD worked the cd-rom workd ..there was no stopping. But once i pluged the 4 pin atx mobo ps, every thing stoped again. I repeated the same thing 3 times. Once the 4 pin atx is pluged everything stops. What should i do. Is it the mobo ? Please help

Hi Eddysam,
Please check the power button if it is solid or flashing, is there any pattern for the same. Please check the keyboard caps lock and number lock key if it toggles while the system is turned on.
For me to better assist in troubleshooting, please click my DELL-username and send me a Private Message with the Dell Service Tag number and your email address.
