ACER Aspire 5920 - keyboard problems

Question: ACER Aspire 5920 - keyboard problems

I have owned this laptop for 3 days. Initially the keyboard worked perfectly well but now pressing the right shift key and any other character brings up the windows media centre whilst triggering CAPS LOCK. Additionally CAPS LOCK has the same effect if it held in and another key depressed. The left shift key works as advertised. The problem is evident on the passwrord start up page but does not induce windows media centre. Any clues? Thanks in advance

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Acer Aspire Model ZD1 :5920-0914 has bad keyboard problem. The only way to use is to type onto copy, & paste where you normally would be typing. It actually
came back from getting fixed, before that it didn't have a keyboard problem & wondered if one of these buttons on it got pressed to cause this. Hope to get help.
But i think it's got malware or infection also, so which forum would be best? Please Help.
Thanks,

Question: Acer Aspire 5920

I need a driver for my laptop so that the battery won't show red x and tells me to switch battery, even tough it's 100%

Anyone knows about my problem?

Answer:Acer Aspire 5920

I'm guessing that the battery issue would be connected to the chipset drivers. However, after searching the downloads at Acer's site, the only chipset drivers available are for Vista, nothing for Windows 7.

Hey guys. I have an old Acer Aspire 5920 that still works perfectly. It has been left aside for quite sometime now since I got a new laptop, but I decided to fresh it up and clean format it to a win 8.1 that I have here. I did it with no problem but I can't find any drivers for win 8.1 for it... I see only win 7 drivers on the acer support page.  The win 8.1 is working fine there, but I think the display image could get better with a propper driver. There is no way I can use the win 7 driver here right? What about if I upgrade it to win 10? Could maybe win 10 automatically find some better drivers for it than the win 8.1 did? I'm guessing not... and probably would get too heavy for the 5920 right?

Answer:Acer Aspire 5920 - can only go as far as win 7?

Question: Acer Aspire 5920

My cauzin Got Acer Aspire 5920 !! its charger stop working she buy another charger for it !! but due to inexperience she bought 24 volts instead of 18 volts !! after charging some time the laptop isn't working nor the power is coming to laptop !! now tel me wht will be affected inside the laptop !! i open it and see that none of IC's are burnt everything is normal !! Now my question is that if high volts charger is plugged to laptop what do it affect !! plzz help me out !!

Answer:Acer Aspire 5920

This not something that can be dealt with here as it will need to be looked at by an experienced technician to see what damage has occured to the mobo and/or battery. The power supply you got with the wrong voltage may well be damaged also. If you are very lucky the charger may have a thermal overload in it and your PC may have a fuse or the battery has been wrecked which could be the reason why it won't turn on.

I wish you the best of luck.

Hello, eh! My name is Tardis_Luv, and I hail from the North Okanagan, BC, Canada...

I've recently acquired by luck and circumstance, a free Acer Aspire 5920 (from 2007/2008?).  I've cleaned her up and she looks like new, and is purring like a kitten; however,... the OS is Windows Vista, and I have nothing but the laptop,... no burned discs, no service discs, nada. The problem is,... I hate Windows Vista.  I've NEVER had it on any of my previous laptops, and after spending only a day with this OS, I'm about ready to kick the person that thought it was a fun idea.  It's evil, and asks me wayyy too many questions that are ridiculous--it's like it's paranoid and anxious and indecisive, always asking for my permission and attention to things that you'd normally never truly pay much attention to *sigh*.I have been searching the net for some way to get rid of it and upgrade to Windows 10 (not my fave either, but better than Vista, that's for sure!)--but despite downloading manuals for this model,  none of them seem to go back far enough to accurately explain how to reset the laptop back to factory default and wipe this thing of its previous owners info.  I'd like a clean computer to start fresh with; even if I can't upgrade to Windows 10 for whatever reason, I'd still like to wipe this little gem clean completely.Does anyone have any experience with this older laptop and wiping it?I can't seem to find anything but easy and new info online that doesn't ... Several reasons that can happen. If both networks dont have encryption turned and are of almost equal strength it can skip from one to another. Do you have encryption turned on?

Another reason is if you have checked connect to his network when in range checked.

I just made the mistake of clean installing windows 10 on my acer and now it will not connnect with the wifi. Does anyone have a solution for this or possibly can the Wifi adapter be updated or a different adapter be installed to work ?  I bought the laptop from a co-worker and it had windows 7 on it and someone removed the factory refresh so that's not an option either . It has a Vista code on the bottom but of course i have no disc .thanks for any help ! Phil

Answer:acer aspire 5920 paperweight after windows 10

I guess you could try connecting your computer to the router via ethernet and see if Windows automatically downloads and installs a driver for your wifi. You could also google search for "USB WiFi dongle" and see if you can get one that works with Windows 10.  Or run over to Best Buy and I'm sure they have a USB WiFi dongle they can recommend for $10-$25.

Answer:my acer aspire 5920 does not boot in any means

The stop error indicates that your boot device in inaccessible.

Insert your Windows 7 disc.
Restart your computer.
If prompted, press any key to start Windows from the installation disc. If your computer is not configured to start from a CD or DVD, check your BIOS settings.
Click Repair your computer. NOTE: This Option will be skipped if using a Recovery disc.
Select US as the keyboard language settings, and then click Next. If you know your keyboard is for another language then select that from the list.
The system will scan for installed operating systems. Select the operating system you want to repair, and then click Next.
Select your user account and click Next. If there is only one user account this will go straight to the System Recovery Options.
On the System Recovery Options menu you will get the following options:

Startup Repair
System Restore
Windows Complete PC Restore
Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool
Command Prompt

Select Command Prompt and type in rstrui.exe and hit the Enter key.

This should open the System Restore window. Take it back to before things went wrong.

Hi everyone,I have an Acer Aspire 5920 with Windows 10 x64. I'm going to say right off that I am not experienced in swapping processors, but did what I thought was the right thing. I removed the battery and drained the laptop of power. I took out the old processor (T5450) and put in the "new" processor (T9300) and applied thermal grease and put the heatsink and fan back in place. I put everything else back in place and turned the laptop back on. It ran great for about five minutes, when suddenly I got a blue screen with a "WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR" message. After that, the computer kept trying to restart itself. A few more messages popped up such as "CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED".Thinking it might be an overheating issue, I turned the laptop off for a little while and turned it back on. From what I understand, this processor should run a little cooler, or at least the same temperatures. The computer booted sucsessfully again and I quickly went to HWiNFO to see the reported temps for the GPU and CPU, both were mid-30's. About ten seconds after running the program, the computer crashed again with the same errors. Could the reported temps be faulty, or is it something different wrong? The BIOS correctly identifies the CPU as T9300.I'm at a loss here. Thanks for any help offered!

Answer:Problem with Acer Aspire 5920 CPU swap

You could try reseating it again to make sure, get the latest chipset driver from intel for T9300. Is it an ES by any chance?

I manage to screw up the easiest of things sometimes, and this just goes to show it.

I followed the instructions that were on the paper given with the CDs (not sure how anyone but me could screw this up) and I ran into a problem after changing out the System Disk with the Recovery Disk (1). I got the error:

Restore failed - reason 0xa000000e.
Click OK to restart the computer.

Upon restarting the computer, I then got this bleak message:

Broadcom UNDI PXE-2.1 v9.4.5
Copyright (C) 2000 - 2007 Broadcom Corporation
Copyright (C) 1997 - 2000 Intel Corporation
All rights reserved.
PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
PXE-M0F: Exiting Broadcom PXE ROM.
Operating System not found.

After I press a random assortment of keys to get past that screen, it comes to the Windows Recovery Screen. When I choose Launch Setup Repair it simply resets the screen. If I choose to Start Windows normally, it loads and loads forever (never actually loading).

Could anyone point out what I should do so that I can just get to where I wanted to be? That is, how to get back to the Factory Install, with nothing on it but a clean copy of the Operating System?

Thank you!

I have a 2006 Acer Aspire 5920 laptop. It came with Windows Vista installed, has 2 GB RAM, 20 GB HDD in 2 partitions,

I've mainly used the computer for basics like web surfing, using Office, email and some streaming video.  When it was newer, my son played games with it online and, being what he thought was pretty computer-savvy at the time, would often change settings and so forth.  So while I was pretty careful, who knows what he did when I wasn't around?

Relatively recently, I had the screen replaced when (I could be remembering this incorrectly) the backlight burned out.  That was about 1-1/2 years ago.

I work for a university and faculty/staff members can get Windows and MS Office for $10-$15, so last December, I bought the upgrade from Vista to Windows 7.  Of course, when I tried to install it, I found out that the upgrade was for Windows Professional and my computer had Home and Office.  The same person who replaced the screen for me (and IT guy from work) brought me a copy of Windows Vista Professional to install instead of the Home and Office (don't ask - I didn't).  We moved all of my data files off the computer, installed Windows Vista Pro, installed the upgrade to Windows 7 Pro. and it seemed to work.

However, since then, the computer has been slowly, how should i say this, degrading as far as speed goes.  Web pages load more slowly.  Documents open more slowly.  Firefox crashes much more fre... Read more

I didn't know whether this should be a consumerwatch thread but I decided first to try and get some technical advice before letting rip at PC World and TechGuys....My friend has Acer 5920 Laptop purchased off PCW. It has Vista installed. It continually hangs, wont run IE now. It starts but wont do a lot else. On going back to PCW their intial advice to my friend who is a real novice, was to download and flash the bios....I urged caution. There next advice was to use the recovery disk. Unfortunately my frend has not created this. Although when he brought the laptop he was sold a TechGuys Revovery DVD Pack for 15. He assumed that this was all he needed. On closer inspection today he now sees that within the pack it sais that the DVDs it contains are blank DVDs and that he needs to use the Acer utility to create the recovery disk. (So the 15 was for 3 blank DVDs!! Although they had kindly numbered them 1-3)The Acer utility wont create disks now, it hangs. Acer want 50 to send one out.I have decided to have a go at Bios but even on my PC the latest Bios on the Acer site wont download properly. So if anyone can advise any sensible solution and improve on the TechGuys it would be really appreciated.I am keen on my friends behalf not to lose data/programmes Thanks

Good evening, members of the Acer community! Please, I would like to know how to proceed to uninstall a software called Winbond CIR Transceiver. I already tried to uninstall it through the Windows 10 Device Manager, however, every time I turn on my laptop, that software reappears. Another issue: my laptop does not automatically connect to the Internet when I turn it on. Every day, I am required to right-click on the connection icon on the Taskbar and run the network diagnostics. At the end of the test, Windows 10 resets the network adapter and the connection returns. Is there any way for me to avoid performing this procedure?

Hi,
My acer aspire 5920 wireless button is not working. It is not getting switched on.
I am using windows xp.
Is there any driver issue or something else?
need some real help.

Answer:Acer aspire 5920 wireless button not working

This could be a hardware problem. But I guess it could be a driver issue, but hardware would be more likely.

First go here:
- Click the Start icon in the bottom left hand corner
- Right click on my computer and select manage
- On the left hand side, find device manager and go to it
- Do you see any yellow exclamations or red x's?

Now, I am assuming your wireless is not working? Can you get internet when you plug a cable from the router into the computer?

If your wireless is not working, I am assuming it is turned off and you are trying to use the wireless button to turn it back on. There are other ways to turn on the wireless besides using the button.
- Go to the start icon in the bottom left hand corner
- Select control panel
- Select Network and Internet Connections
- If you don't see this, on the left hand side select Switch to Category View
- After network and internet connections, select network connections
- You should now be able to see some network interfaces
- For your wireless one, right click it and select enable
- Wireless should now be on.

I apologise in advance if i irritate you but i litterally have no clue what is what when it comes to laptops.

Ive had my Acer Aspire 5920 for a good few years now, it ran perfectly fine on vista for a good 3 years, not a hitch or care in the system. Then out of no where it goes missing for a week, and my mums ex boyfriend had upgraded it to 'windows 7 extreme edition' and none of the buttons of the sides worked, including the most important one- the wireless.

now i understand that a driver synaptics or something fixed the others, and it did. but still the wireless and all the buttons to the left refuse to work.

i cant ask the ex for help because he left on very bad terms and i have none of my original discs left. My friend has now got me running windows 7 professional 32 bit and i have the glowy buttons working, but not the wireless.

the reason i need wireless is soon im going to uni where i cant plug it into the wall to get the internet-that and the socket for the internet cable has started to melt and warped out of shape.

i cant seem to find ANY advice on this matter, that or i just simply dont understand the jargon. I dont care if it means going back to vista as that was fine to work with anyway - but how would i go about doing that if so?

Sorry to be a pain in the dariair.
- Aridan

Hello CluelessAcer

Have a look here Acer Support: Downloads & Support Documents - Notebook / Aspire / Aspire 5920 I have a few models up from you and those buttons are controlled by the Launch Manager Application at the bottom of the page. You should also be able to find any missing drivers/applications here.

I have inherited an old Acer Aspire 5920 Laptop. It originally came with windows Vista 32 bit installed. I've nuked that and installed Windows 7 x64 Ultimate. I managed to find all the relevant drivers and there is nothing flagged in device manager as having a problem. Everything appears to work with the exception of the row of Media Keys down the right hand side of the keyboard right above the DVD drive. The key with the little person symbol works when pressed but all the remaining keys that are lit up blue don't. These keys are the play pause stop etc. They brighten up for a second if you press on one of them but don't actually do anything in Media player, Media center, or Acer Arcade. I'd be happy if they just worked in Windows Media Player. Non of the Acer empowering apps are compatible with Windows 7 and are not installed. The only exception is the Acer Launcher App which allows me to program the Blue e key and the e-mail etc keys that are on the left hand side of the keyboard. There is another set of media keys on the actual keyboard that are accessed using the Fn key that work. It would just be nice to be able to use the other ones that are lit up and easy to see in the dark. I sometimes like to lay down and listen to some music with the lights off and its a bit of a pain trying to use the other keys to stop or pause the music in low light conditions.

Answer:Acer Aspire 5920 Blue Media keys don't work?

thats the only problem with older tech and newer os. ive got a laptop that i put windows 7 on, but there are no compatible audio drivers for its chipset that work with windows 7.

That said, with my friends acer that i fixed and installed windows 7 on, to get the media keys on his working i tried downloading the drivers for a newer acer computer with hot keys and it worked.

My Acer keeps giving my a blue screen every time i enter my user under normal mode. so i went into safe mode with networking and checked the device manager and its the Consumer IR Driver. code 31. I have tried everything to get it to work. disabled it, updated, etc. but still no luck. is there anyway i can format the hard drive under safe mode? Because i cant even get into my user under normal mode for anymore than 2sec and the blue screen kicks me out and shuts the acer off.

Answer:Acer Aspire 5920 with vista HP32 only works in safe mode

if your computer will not boot up properly, you can attempt to reach the restore option by pressing the Alt button and the F10 button at the same time before windows loads or is meant to load. When the eRecovery menu appears, choose "restore system to factory defaults".Wait for the recovery process to complete and the computer to restartI am a hardware guy not a software guy but i try to help.

Hi there, acer laptop only 4 months old. The laptop worked fine when new. Now suddenly it won't start up/power up,or it will start all by itself then stop before anything begins, i.e. screen lits up or windows starts.I have run Anti Virus/stinger added service pack 1 today which I noticed had been tried to be installed a few weeks ago and failed but if laptop would not start or it did not fully shutdown this could have been a problem.I checked all power management settings. The laptop did start and try to load windows then just switched off and when i did eventually get it to power up I did a repair to try to fix any problems. Once it is running it is OK it is just getting it to start.Whilst writing this the laptop has just begun to start all by itself and then stop after a few seconds. I never touch the laptop or moved it nothing it did it all by itself. The laptop belongs to my Nephew and he said it just started doing this all by itself, but as you all know 90% of all computer problems are human error.Any help would be appreciated.Wrighty

Answer:Acer aspire 5943g keyboard problems

Chances are that the keyboard contacts are wearing out or it is full of dirt, try turning the PC upside down and gently tapping the keyboard, you may be suprised how much dirt comes out of it. You could also get a can of compressed air to blow out all the dirt, but if nothing helps a new keyboard may be the only solution.

Hi allI have an Acer 5920 laptop. Does anyone have any idea why I can't get SP1 through Windows update. When I check for updates it just says I have all updates but SP1 is not there. All drivers are up to date and I don't seem to have any of the known conflict drivers? None of Microsoft's seven reasons for not getting SP1 seem to apply. I am abit reluctant to just download SP1 given the reports of it not working for some people and would rather the windows update site OK it. CheersOlli

Hey guys

Got myself the Acer 5920 with the intel dual core processors. Every site says its 64 bit but still they installed the 32 version.

For example, 3D Studio Max has 2 versions; 32 and 64 bit.
The installer recognizes the 32 bit vista so it WONT install the 64 bit, but it does install the 32 bit version.

Loading up the 32 bit version: it doesnt, error. Wrong processor.

So now I want to install the 64 bit vista. I got a dvd with it but whenever I run setup.exe or the autorun, it gives an error saying wrong os or summit (can look the exact error up when I'm home again)

The question I already thin I know the awnser on:
My pc can run vista 64 bit, right?

Anyone else has issue's with 32/64 bit versions of software not running?

Or a solution how to install that 64 bit version? Booting didnt work, it doesnt see it as a bootable disc (I pressed F12, and when the pc boots it first checks the cd for a bootable disc)

Im getting a new vista 64 dvd btw since the version I got was from a friend if ye kno wha I mean :P (wanted to test it before buying it, honnestly)

Answer:Acer 5920 comes with 32bit...

Hi Steven,

Welcome to the forum.

The 64 bit Vista has to be installed by booting from the installation DVD and do a clean install as a Upgrade version. This tutorial will show you how. You will need to enter your 32 bit Vista's PID number for the 64 bit.

How to Do a Clean Install of Vista From a Upgrade Version

Before you install the 64 bit Vista, make sure that all of your devices have 64 bit Vista drivers for them. The 32 bit ones will not work.

Hope this helps you,
Shawn

Hi guys,

I hope this is in the right forum. I have been suffering from stuttering audio, from both audio on my pc and streaming from the net. I did all the usual tricks, checked for viruses/spyware, reinstalled drivers etc and I've (unintentionally) narrowed it down to hardware. I've done this by accidentally leaning on the casing, to the right hand side of the mouse pad. This actually allows the audio to continue playing without stutter and if the pressure is lifted the stutter returns immediately.

What I want to ask is whether it is easy enough to get into the machine itself, having looked around someone had done it previously. Secondly, what am I likely to find that is causing this problem?

Many thanks in advance.

I'm looking at an Acer 5920 that will not boot up. I loaded Linux Mint on it some time ago. The symptoms are... start it up, then a few grating noises from the CD drive area, then it switches off, restarts and then more grating noises, and the remains on with no action and a blank scree. I have tried booting with the Mint disk, but to no avail. Any help on solving this would be appreciated. Could it be the BIOS perhaps. AB68

My mothers laptop, 5920 with crystaleye webcam reports as buisy when trying to use it.

So situation..
Bout 3 months ago, she was playing around with the Acer Arcade and made a short vid as a test. When she stopped it, and closed it out it kept saying, "stop recording before exitng" Which she had.
She ended the program some how, and thought nothing of it.

Now Yesterday
She went to use skype with a freind.. first time since makin the above vid, and skype reported the cam was buisy. She tried msn, and the crystal eye software.. No go, all say ts buisy.

Now, she uninstalled arcade and the crystal eye stuff.. nope
I uninstalled the webcam via the device manager and scaned for new hardware... nope

Check the event logs, and it seen an error that the arcade webcam software had an error trying to start.. It was removed and shouldn't hve been starting.

This leads me to think Arcade never released the cam from the video back 3 months ago.

I reinstall arcade, and it seems promising.. But no go.
loaded up cam software and the controls work vand cam lights up, so i hit record, and stop it. But alas.. no good.
Try it again, and controls don't work and no light on cam.

All this leads me to Windows not releasing the cam from arcade...

So, does anyone have any ideas...

Thanks

Hello everyone!

I have a Acer 5920, and it does NOT charge, turn on or anything, I have check the charger with another laptop and a multimeter and it's fine. Tried another charger on the acer 5920 and still nothing.

I have now taken it apart, and checked the power cable to the motherboard, everything checks out.

I have disconnected the internal jack from the motherboard and tested with a multimeter and it IS receiving power! So now the problem is within the motherboard, or another place...?

Any ideas before I jump and get a new motherboard??

Hi,

I have a Sony Bravia LCD - (KLV -46D300A), KLV-40D300A, KLV32D300A model numbers that are mentioned on the booklet. I also have a Acer 5920 laptop.

I wanted to connect my laptop to the LCD TV for playing the DVD player in my laptop and having the video output on the LCD TV.

The manual suggests using the HDMI wire to connect both i.e Laptop and the LCD Tv, however the Laptop does not seem to have the port to put in the HDMI wire. I got another two wires both with one side USB which goes in my laptop. The other side for one of them is the three colour pins (red, yellow and blue) I tried pluggin in them on the side - and then realised that that side was for the Camcorder connection.

I would really need help to understand which wire I can use which can be connected in both which will give me the desired output to the LCD screen

Simply Vista won't load. I have tried:
F8 - it won't load in any safe mode (plain, networking, or command prompt) or last known good configuration. I have backup on an Iomega external hard drive (but I cannot boot it from there), and then I read about ALT F-10 restore to factory default (I'm getting desperate) and I have tried every variation of my passwords (none work).
I don't care if Vista ever boots again, end result I want to install Ubunto on the laptop as I only use it for facebook and runescape. I installed Ubunto on an older desktop computer which I am using for Internet access for this site). The old computer I'm using is too slow for FB/RS. I really want to see if I can fix this laptop!

Hey all, having used Acer's 5920 for the last few weeks I decided to open the little guy up and take a few shots. I didn't have time to do a full tear down so here are the first few shots. And yes all I had at the time was the camera on my phone.

The shots to take not of are the ones showing the MXM type II graphics card. So a video upgrade is indeed possible. The other being the network card and the one empty slot that mirror's it on the motherboard. Expansion? Possible to add an "N" spec or others later on? Any thoughts? Also, I forgot to take one but the CPU is not soddered in, it's your standard Core 2 Duo socket. So yes, you can upgrade it, just be careful with your thermals.

The picture with the giant white label in it is the network card. Again, sorry for the crappy quality. I'll get new ones up when I've got time to take it apart again.

it's good to see acer can be "halfway"opened like my old travelmate.

hence it's possible to clean CPU heatsink without doing full teardown..

some series of acer does not allow this, they only allow to open the RAM and HDD case. hence when it's time to clean the CPU heatsink and fan, big teardown must be done...

Hi People,

I bought an Acer Aspire 5920 laptop on the 16th October 2008, which is just under 2 months ago. Its brilliant, runs so smoothly, although I am now starting to experience some problems with it, as they screen and backlight are starting to flicker sometimes.

It might not happen for a while but then it will. I was going to take into to comet who say they will send it for repair, but I do law, at the be quite honest, I am actually entitled to a straight replacement/refund according to Section 48B 2(ii) of the Sales of Goods Act, but thats not the point, I just want this laptop to be fixed becuase I love it.

I have seen on the internet that the problem could be an Inverter or something, the cable between the motherboard and the screen, also the woman from comet said this.

I just want your ideas and comments on whether it is an easy fix yourself, I am experienced with computers as I have a BTEC National Diploma for ICT Practitioners, within this I specialised in Hardware/Networking/Systems Support, so I am not scared as to opening it up as long as the problem is one that can be fixed by me lol.

Thanks

This console has the facility to enable Ready Boost in addition to Ready Drive. Ready Drive is permanently enabled, but after enabling Ready Boost, and the subsequent re boot, the next time the computer is switched on it is again disabled. Any advise on this would be appreciate, please.

Hi,

I have a problem with my friend's Acer 5920 laptop and I can't figure out how to fix it. When I turn the laptop on it asks to choose from the following configurations:

Safe Mode
Safe mode with Networking
Safe mode with command prompt
start windows normally

When I choose 'Start windows normally' the Vista loading bars appear and then the screen turns completely black. The mouse pointer is visible.

I tried to enter into Safe mode, but the same thing happens; A black screen with a visible mouse pointer.

Can anyone help please?

Thanks

Answer:Acer 5920 black screen after boot up

looks like a corrupted windows component. if you want to 'reformat' it press ALT+F10 after turning on it should lead you to Acer eRecovery console. Be sure to backup before formatting.

Hello.  My Acer Aspire Revo/Aspire R3700 (The naming of this machine seems to be unclear. The branding logo on one side indicates Aspire Revo, but the other side identifies it as Aspire R3700. Worse yet, the BIOS seems to think that the machine is a Veriton of some sort. Acer can't seem to make up its mind on the naming of this computer.) running Windows 10 has been having some problems lately. The first of these popped up a couple of months ago: Seemingly random blue screens. These were of the "DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION" variety. I reinstalled Windows 10, and the errors seemed to go away for a couple of weeks. Then another problem arose: Random shut-offs. Every once in a while the computer would just turn off. No freeze, no blue screen, no warning, no alert. One second the computer would be working normally, the next, it's completly off.  Finally, we come to the past couple of weeks. One time the computer wouldn't wake the screen by pressing buttons on the mouse and they keyboard. I manually turned it off and turned it on again. The computer showed four numbers in the bottem right corner (something like 0033), then drawed the Acer logo line by line, as if it were the early 80s, and then produced one long beep tone. After a minute or so on the Acer logo, the Windows logo would show up and appear to boot normally. The Windows logo would then disappear for a long period of time, followed by a blue screen. Sometimes the blue screen shows the error "DPC_WATCHDOG_... Read more

First thanks for being here, and I hope you can help.

I have not had sound for over 3 months. (I wish I could tell you what happened before I lost sound, I am not sure, it has been awhile) (I did notice it after yahoo crashed one time, then it did reinstall it self, but after hibernation, it was gone again.) I have tried every trick I could find on the net, have downloaded every driver I could try, and nothing works. My audio driver is in the Device Manager , it is listed as the HD Audio Controller under system, not in Audio, Video, and Game controllers. So a lot of post have not helped me. I have checked to make sure everything is working as far as starting and making sure it is not just hidden. Every time I reinstall the driver after uninstalling it, it says "please consult with your device manufacture for assistance getting this device installed high definition audio controller."
I am trying to include all information needed, I really don't know what to do at this point, and I really do not want to have to reformat my computer.

I tried to use the program you said to use, but it said something about having an issue with my computer, it went really fast I missed it. I also noticed it didn't include my motherboard, so I included some extra information. The txt file was too big, so I have it in part 1 and 2 and extra hope this is ok.

You're referring to Everest; the free version is a bit old and occasionally doesn't produce accurate results with newer hardware; not anything to worry about. The report does show that your audio device is present, and is being detected by Windows (this is also true because you said it shows up in the Device Manager). First thing to do is to uninstall the driver. Go to the Vista version of Add/Remove Programs; I think you go to the Control Panel, select Program & Features, and then you'll see a list of installed programs. Look for "Realtek HD Audio Controller" or something real close to that and uninstall it. Restart the PC. If Vista tries to reinstall the driver automatically, cancel the install if it lets you. Install the chipset drivers available from this link. Then restart the PC. Then download and install this driver. Restart the PC when it finishes. With any luck, this will fix the audio....
:-D
Let us know how it goes! Good luck!

Hey there,

I've got lots of work to do but unfortunately my laptop is refusing to work. A couple of days ago I accidentally installed a virus and I decided to downgrade to XP. So to install XP I had to change the SATA Mode in the BIOS from AHCI Mode to IDE Mode. I then installed lots of drivers but everytime I tried to install the Intel (R) 3945abg Wireless driver XP crashed. (Screen froze and all the hardware stopped making noises) Eventually I got the driver to install by removing the Wireless card from the laptop. However, everytime the black XP loading screen comes up it freezes and crashes.

I tried changing the mode back to SATA in the BIOS but then I get instant BSODs and I won't write out the error codes because it's obvious it's from changing the SATA Mode.

Model: Acer Aspire 5920
OS: Windows XP SP3
Problem Driver: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Deta...19152&lang=eng

If you need anymore info please feel free to ask.

Thanks very much for your time,
Clarkie

PS. This is urgent!

My acer active pen is not working consistently. The screen recognizes it sometimes, and other times it does not. The only way I can get it to recognize is by power cycling the pen (taking the battery out and putting it back in), or by power cycling the laptop. I replaced the battery so I know it is not a battery issue. I have an Acer Aspire R13 (Model #R7-371T), and recently upgraded to Windows 10.  I was having this problem earlier with Win 8.1, but it seems to have gotten worse with Windows 10.  I have updated to all the most recent drivers.  Very frustrating. Any thoughts?

Ok so I regularly play video games and work on this laptop but for a while when ever I hold the w key and release it the key would still act as if it is being pushed down and would not stop holding itself down. This also happens when I switch tabs and when that happens the w key becomes unresponsive for a while then it is able to be used a couple seconds/minute later. I am not having luck with cleaning the keyboard since there is no space at all to stick a spray in to remove dust or a way I know of to remove the covers of the keyboard but all my other keys are good.

Answer:Keyboard unresponsive Acer aspire V3-571

Hi Th3da,

Unless you can feel that the key is sticky, I don't know that there is much room to clean and the design is mean to keep stuff from getting in.

If the W key is just occassionally not being recognized, it may be an issue with the contact and the KB may need to be replaced.

Hi GuysI own an acer aspire one v5-121 netbook ( 1 Ghz Amd Dual Core , 2 Gigs Ram , 500 GB HDD , 11.6" ) .Some of the keys on the netbook are malfunctioning . For example , pressing "Down Arrow" shows the digit "1" . So basically , one cannot move down a list of items in windows explorer using the down arrow - and it remains the same in all kinds of application - in the browser , while playing games etc . Simlarly other keys like "Delete" and "Insert" are also malfunctioning .  Another key that is working in an undesirable manner is the "Q" key . Whenever I use the Q key , for eg. in microsoft word , this "q" alphabet jumps to the starting position of the word which I were typing .  So all this makes the netbook almost un-usable for academic needs & beats my purpose .  Hope I can find the right solution to this problem here . THANKS IN ADVANCE
