I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
Doesent caps lock light come on when you press Caps Lock?
4 more repliesHello! Since the most recent build of W-10 (9879), my caps lock, num lock, and scroll lock lights do not function on either computer on which I have W-10 installed (a desktop with a USB keyboard and a laptop with an integrated keyboard). The keys still work to correctly toggle the functionality, but the keyboard lights don't work. In case it matters, my keyboard's actual backlights and my mouse's internal light (not the laser, the internal LED) are working correctly, it's just the CL, NL, and SL indicators that don't function.
Anyone have any ideas for fixing this?

Hi,
how to disable Caps lock, num lock, scroll lock screen messages?
I have desktop pc with two keyboards usb and bluetooth. Also TOSHIBA Bluetooth Stack software, but in device manager: keyboard > hid keyboard device both using microsoft drivers. And I dont have any software installed for keyboards. Also bluetooth has separate system tray indications (it is also disabled) so its not that. I made some googling and found other fix it with Hkey_Local_Machine\Software\Widcomm\BTConfig\General KeyIndication set to 0, but I dont have it in registry. Acualy I dont have anywhere in registry KeyIndication. So any ideas how to disable it? Thanks
Hi,
You'll find that the messages are controlled by a piece of software that came pre-installed on your machine when you bought it. Try looking for a Hotkey managing app to see if the notifications can be disabled.

I'm using an HP Pavilion dv6000 Notebook series. I noticed that my Caps Lock LED is not working but its FUNCTION is working fine.. same goes with Scroll Lock. Here's the weird part.. when I press Num Lock ( function key + scroll lock ) the LED turns on! I already tried a system recovery, it didn't solve the issue. Is there something wrong with my BIOS? Any help from you guys will be highly appreciated.. thanks!
Sometimes electrical components needs to have all power sources removed and reintroduced to work properly. Try performing a hard reset first, if it doesn't work then try updating your BIOS. If neither works...It's pretty much dead and not worth fixing. To Perform A Hard Reset Shut down the computer by going to the Start menu and selecting shut down. (If you have no display, hold the power button down for 5 seconds)Disconnect the AC Adapter from the notebook.Remove the battery from the bottom of the notebook. There will be a switch/button to eject the battery.Wait at least 1 minute with all power sources disconnected.Re-insert the battery and reconnect the AC Adapter and then attempt to power on the notebook.
9 more repliesFor some time now, i have been experiencing that my Num Lock, Caps Lock and Scroll Lock all lights up (not blinking) all at the same time, I tried to google it but i can not find any solutions or explanations for it.
Does anyone know if it is bad? and what is causing this?
I am having a wired keyboard with nothing fancy just a standard issue Logitech keyboard.
Can you toggle those functions off, one at a time? Sometimes restarting the computer will use the last state it was in, I'd fully shut down and pull the power cord from the computer and the keyboard cable then put them back and try again.
2 more repliesWell, I have no idea what caused this but the tablet buttons (even the on/off button) the lights for caps lock and scroll lock as well as the automatic screen orientation change when I flip it to be a tablet have stopped working. Also the screen does not turn off anymore when the lid is closed. Reinstalled pretty much all of the drivers, no effect.Any ideas? Is this thing already broken?
well, SOMETHING is broken.. though it would seen unlikely it is hardware.. a question: did you load anything new just before this happened..?anything at all..scanner drivers or printer drivers or a new application..? OH!, welcome to the lenovo community..!

Caps lock and scroll lock blinking, will not boot up

7 more repliesI went to get my HP dv4 Pavilion laptop after work tonight to check email and i opened it up and moved around the mouse to wake it up...the lights on they keyboard all came on as if it were starting but the screen stayed black. I waited a few minutes because sometimes it's been known to take a few seconds to actually kick on...but nothing happened so I forced shutdown by holding the power button. Turned it back on and the screen came on(with a "your system didn't shut down properly error screen) but it still started, but now the Caps Lock and Scroll keys had blinking lights on the side and top, blinking together about every second. I tried tapping the buttons and nothing happened. What caused this and how can i get rid of the blinking. I've read from doing a google search that shutting down, taking the battery out and unplugging from the A/C adapter and holding the power button for 15 seconds takes care of the problem...but I would like to make sure that is safe before trying as this is a fairly new laptop(just got it at Christmas time). I'm running Windows 7 if that makes a difference. would also like to add that I just noticed that my little batter icon says it is plugged in but not charging....it's sitting at 80%....this is a brand new ac adapter that I just got last week...so I hope it's not that.Thank you for any help you can give me....and sorry if this isn't the right forum....it seemed to be the best fit.

7 more repliesHello my friend.
i have a problem woth my EliteBook 8460p.
the caps lock and num lock blinks 4 times each time and then turns off totally.
what is the problem?..
Hi,I have an inspiron 9400 that has been having some issues lately. As of right now, when I push the power button, the power light comes on but it does not boot or even post. The Num lock stays on and the caps lock and scroll lock lights blink for about 40 seconds then the whole thing shuts off. This can obviously be only a few things but, how to I figure out what those blinking lights mean. I have search dell support but have found nothing. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks
Try reseating your RAM securely in their slots. I have read that blinking of any of the lock indicators is a sign of memory failure.
21 more replieswhy is my caps lock and scroll lock flashing? is there's a problem whit my laptop? my laptop is compaq with window vista..how to resolve the problem?
Might be a ram issue try either removing one at a time if you have two.If not then try reseating the one installed and also do a memory diagnostic test.
2 more repliesI need help. I will explain when I believe the problem began. I Had windows xp running with 3 harddrives and a Cdrom drive. My CdRom drive began to give me problems, so I was going to swap it with one from one of my other computers. At the same time I wanted to change the way I had all my drives connected. I had originally had the 80 gig drive as a Primary Master, with a smaller drive acting as the Slave. I also had the Cdrom as Master Secondary drive and a smaller drive attached as the Slave. Now everthing was running fine, exept that my cdrom drive would read the discs only if it would start up with the disk in the drive. If I tried to change it, windows would ask me to place a disk in the F: drive, when there already was one. I thought to replace the CdRom drive with another working device. while at the same time I decided to change up my Connections. I took the "new" cd rom drive and made it Slave Primary to the Master 80 Gig drive. then I took the two smaller drives and put them together as sencondary devices. when I tried to turn on the computer all that happens is, as soon as I touch the power my 3 lights on my keyboard come on. Num Lock Caps Lock and Scroll Lock. I know the drive is turning on because I can feel & here it wirr. I tried taking everything off except for the 80 gig drive and I still got the same problem. Later on I noticed that there are a bunch of smaller connections that come from the front of my computer power, sleep, and reset buttons. ... Read more

More repliesI have an x61t that when it locks for screen saver password and you have to CTRL ALT Delete the relog back on. the CAPS lock on the onscreen keyboard indicates on but it's not. 1. Log into the tablet.2. The screensaver would lock the tablet.3. Press Ctrl Alt Delete to get to the logon screen.4. The on screen keyboard would show the Caps Lock key as on but it wasn't. If they pressed the Caps Lock key it would then be on.5. The users don't press the Caps Lock key now, even though it is being displayed as on, and they can logon OK. 9 more repliesI was on my Y560 Model 0646 checking my email and the computer shut off on me. I went to turn it back on and it does not turn on. The caps lock and number lock light up. Blue tooth, Battery, and Video status all light up above keyboard in status area. None of the fans are going, and it does not sound like anything is running. I tried removing the power and battery and pressing power button a few times. Also tried to remove power and battery and holding down power and nothing. It's almost like it freezes. I can push the mute button and it lights up, but then cannot turn it off. Please help. Laptop just went out of warranty last month.
I'm guessing it is because of the motherboard. Since it is out of warranty can a Y560 motherboard be purchased anywhere? Any ideas? Please help.

My Toshiba satellite c650d seems to have power...the on button is green. The screen is black, the numbers and caps lock lights are on and wont go off. The disk drive makes the usual booting up noise but that is all she does. Ive unplugged and removed the battery and that did nothing. I cant even turn it off with the on/off button to remove that battery and then turn it on again. I removed and reinserted the memory (both) and I can't take the hard drive out, its held in by a screw. Is my "friend" dead?
If, as it sounds, it is booting up but not ever displaying anything on the screen, check the cable between the motherboard and the screen. It might just be one of the connectors (at either end) has worked loose. With the computer well booted up, move the screen gently down to nearly closed. If you ever see anything on the screen then it could be the cable is faulty where it hinges.Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

I have a Ideapad Y560P that shut down suddenly and when we tried to turn it back on, the Caps Lock and Num Lock (on F8 key) lights go on but the computer does not start. I saw a similar thread from 2010 but there was no resolution. I assume that the two lights on at the same time at attempted start indicate some kind of "fault" condition in the computer. I have not been able to get the bios to start so that I could run diagnostics. I pulled the battery and held down power for 30 seconds, pressed start twice, put the battery back in but still won't start. I pulled memory out, trying to get a POST "beep" error but that didn't occur. I put memory back in one dimm at a time. I pulled the Hard Drive out and put it in an external enclosure and was able to extract the information to another laptop so I'm pretty sure I didn't have a hardware Hard Drive failure. Other than the one reference in this forum I haven't seen any information about this kind of, what I assume is a, hardware failure. I assume that Lenovo has some kind of guide that tells them what the lights mean. The computer was about six months out of warrenty when it failed. I called Lenovo to attempt to extend the warranty but they won't once it is out of warranty. Looking for some idea of what failed, whether it is worth getting one of Lenovo's listed companies that repair laptops to look at it and fix the problem.

My recent purchase of the above All-in-One PC (running on Windows 10) included the Lenovo SK-8861 keyboard which has no lights for the CAPS LOCK and NUM LOCK keys. How do I get them to be displayed on the screen when pressed? When I went into Display Settings in Control Panel, I could not find the option to set them on or off. so, based on the instructions on https://support.lenovo.com/gb/en/solutions/ht002122, I installed the Hotkey driver from http://support.lenovo.com/gb/en/downloads/ds031814. When I now go into Advanced Settings under Display Settings and click on Screen Configurations, I can see the Enable on-screen display checkbox and the Appearance settiings but the expected Indicator Settings for NUM LOCK and CAPS LOCK aren't being displayed as expected. Can anybody advise what I need to do to enable these settings? Lenovo On-Screen-Display is listed under the Installed Programs in Control Panel. Many thanks.
I do not have an answer for how to enable them via the control plane, but I can point you to a free tool called Keyboard LEDs that I have used in the past that when installed will put an indicator in the system tray, and will sound a tone and display on screen if so configured in its settings.. Cheers,

I have a Satellite C660 which was working fine this morning. When I returned from work and powered it on, the entire keyboard is not working and therefore cannot enter my login details.
The Num lock and Caps lock are lit.
Any ideas on how to resolve this?
Hi
Are you able to disable the CapsLock and NumLock?
Can you access the BIOS pressing F2 while powering up the unit?
If this does not work, I would recommend checking an external USB keyboard.
If the USB keyboard would functions, then this means that the internal keyboard is faulty and needs to be replaced.
Not a techie. Can't get straight answer ANYWHERE. New laptops tend to NOT have indicators on the keys. Hoping Windows 10 has indicators that can be turned on and PROBABLY would show up in the tray at the bottom right of the screen.
I have heard of sites where such things can be downloaded but again NOT a techie, so I hesitate to go outside of Windows/Microsoft for downloads. I do not know what download sites are safe or spoofs.
Please plain English ... i.e. go to settings etc. Or just give me a Microsoft approved site for download.

Hi, i've been reading through an endless amount of forum threads to figure out how to remove this caps lock indicator and have not been able to fix my problem. It seems every solution in the control panel does not fit, and no matter how much i look in Registry Editor I can't find the right folders. I don't have the Widcomm folders. This is what I have tried. 1. unchecking any caps lock indication in the control panel.2. Looking through Registry Editor to delete/rename/alter files.3. Deleting and re-installing Lenovo Energy Manager. How is this problem fixed for me? I am running windows 10, and a rather new Lenovo Y50 laptop
More repliesGood afternoon,
I just did a clean install of 7 to fix errors with my laptop, and it fixed one, but not the other main issues,
My caps lock, and number lock button on the keyboard don't have a light on it and the pop up that is supposed to pop up doesn't show up on screen.
I figured by doing a clean install it would all magically appear again... I was wrong, I have tweaked everything I could think of looking/trying to change setting from the keyboard in control panel, (including messing around with ease of use) and Gateways so called "support" area was of no help, as well as googling the issue has led me down a path of useless tips, I have also looked on this forum for help.
Any help in this area would be GREATLY appreciated!!

Hi, Welcome to TSG forums!
You might try booting it into safe mode....while computer is booting, continously tap the F8 key. This should open it in safe mode. If it does, use the arrow keys to move up to 'last known good configuration' click on enter, let the machine do its thing.

How do I remove the Caps and Num Lock indictor for a Lenovo G50, that is running Windows 10?
Hi Thisismyname01 ,
Welcome to the Community Forums.
On a similar G50 , this was resolved by uninstalling Energy Management .
Another steps that was advised :
1. Opening Control Panel >Program and Features>Uninstall a Program and look for Caps OSD or Lenovo OSD
2. On the display properties of the graphic card , you may also configure to "Show indicator for a few seconds" .
3. Disable hotkeys from the BIOS ( but this may change all other usable hotkeys ) . Lets's reserve it a last option.
Update us what works for you.

Hi, Anton8
I did some research and found this document from Microsoft that may help. If Scroll Lock is turned on, but there is no Scroll Lock on your keyboard, then you may want to try using the On-Screen Keyboard and see if it is enabled there, There is also a setting on the status bar that should allow you to disable it.
Hope it helps,Adam

I have a XPS 8500 with a Windows 7 Home Premium OS, 64-bit operating system. I have scoured google like crazy for answers with no luck. Hi jarryd,
Welcome to the community,
This should be fixed easily by installing the latest version of the power management driver.
I am not sure what machine you have so you can find it at our support site:

hi Vilvern,
Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
AFAIK,
If the system does not have CAPS OSD under Control Panel / Uninstall a Program to uninstall
You will need to Uninstall the Lenovo Energy managemenr Under the Programs / Uninstall a program.

Even when I am typing this message it becomes difficult if my G 570 has the num lock on or off, same thing happens with caps lock. Have to guess all the time and correct the typos.. NONE OF THE LIGHTS - CAPS LOCK OR NUM LOCK IS WORKING. DURING BOOT UP AND JUST AFTER BOOT UP, THE LIGHTS SEEM TO WORK PERFECTLY, BUT AFTER STARTUP THE LIGHTS BECOME COMPLETELY DEAD! difficult working with guessing business and toggling these always basing on trial and error.. PLEASE HELP!
hi SD_musician,
Can you try to:
1. Check this registry fix to disable or enable the Num Lock key at startup
2. Referring to this article, try to press Fn+F8 to enable numlock at the Windows login screen then press the power button to shutdown / restart the PC.
3. Check for an updated BIOS from the lenovo website to fix both capslock and numlock issue (press Windows Key+Rt > type msinfo32 then press Enter to know your BIOS version).
Note:
Backup your important files and follow this readme instructions before updating the BIOS.
Let me know your findings.
Cheers.
THE "HP On-Screen Caps/Num/Scroll lock Indicator" shows up in Programs and Features, but the size cell is empty!! Indicator lost during a previous "fix" of an unrelated problem. HP states they can neither replace the file nor download the file contenets. What, Where, and How can I retrieve the indicator as I have a &[email protected]*+ remote keyboard? HELP!
khdphd
Hi, khdphd, and welcome to the forum....
They say they cannot download the file? I have always seen every HP that uses those hkCMD.exe files to be able to download them for that computer in the event of a reinstall.
Did you look at software available for download for your computer? If it is there, then you can download it, uninstall the current version, reboot and install that one and it should load the original files back in place.
Try uninstalling hkcmnd from Programs and Features (it may be named something a bit more fancy)
And I know what HP *said* - but look anyway.
I get the blinking caps lock/ scroll lights once a month or so. Restarting or doing a hard reset usually fixes the issue. But is there something I can do to resolve this? Apparently the 4 blinking sequence signals a graphics controller issue, but not sure what this means or how to fix.

Apparently Windows 10, and I don't know for how long before that, has had a feature that when you change Scroll Lock / Num Lock key settings there is a notification that flashes on the screen. I have never used these keys and so have never noticed this annoyance before.
However, due to an update in VirtualBox which saves and restores the state of these keys between virtual machines and the Windows Host, I now see these notifications and they are very very annoying. Especially if you are capturing a screen shot.
As you can see from this screenshot of a virtual machine window, it's trashed by the windows 10 overlay. It took me sometime to prove to myself that the problem is the interaction between the VM in virtualbox and Windows 10. I'm not suggesting that this is VirtualBox fault, since someone probably wants the key settings saved / restored in the VM. And I'm not saying that Windows 10 should never display this, since some folks probably love this feature.
But I need to turn it off.
I've looked through the settings and can't see a way to turn this off.
Can anyone show me how to turn off this display in Windows 10?
Thanks much,
wg

You need to transfer first the documents from your hard drive as a safety procedure. You would need an enclosure adapter and another working computer to do this -> http://www.liutilities.com/how-to/install-laptop-hard-drive-to-desktop-computer/You could also follow the link you provided to diagnose the particular error codes on your startup problem.

The HP EliteBook 8530p Notebook PC supports a maximum of 8 GB of DDR2-800 RAM.
It has 2 SODIMM slots, so that means you can't install more than 4 GB in each slot.

More repliesHi all, I recently discovered that the Caps Lock and Num Lock OSD has stopped appearing when I activate/disactivate these functions. The functions still work, just that the notifications do not pop up. All the rest of the OSD notifications still DO work, like volume, ThinkLight, brightness, etc.I've checked the on-screen display settings in Control Panel and found that it set to 'enable' with fadeout at 3 seconds. I've turned it off and on to 'reset' it but to no avail. Help, please. Thanks in advance.

When I hit the power on button on my computer, it takes anywhere from five minutes to eight hours to start up. While starting up, and while running, the CAPS lock and NUM lock lights flash once about every 2.75 seconds.
I looked up the HP error codes, one flash is supposed to signify a CPU problem...but I can run Half-life 2, WoW, Runes of Magic, and 8 track Guitar Pro 5 files just fine. So I figure my CPU's (AMD Turion x2 dual core @ 2.0 Ghz) got nothing wrong with it.
I've spoken to HP support, they told me to reimage my computer to factory settings...I've done that, twice....flashed the BIOS...and tried running startup repair....any hints?
Hi,
I've just a simple questions (maybe): I recognized, that pressing the NUM LOCK key causes the LED of that key to flash on, ok thats`s normal, but also the CAPS Lock key LED turns on weak.
Now, when I'm pressing the CAPS Lock the LED gets brighter.
Switching off NUM Lock turns off the LED, thats ok, the CAPS LOCK is still burning bright (because it was pressed as well).
Pressing CAPS LOCK again turns the LED off.
Funny thing is: Pressing the CAPS Lock forces the LED of it and the LED of the NUM LOCK to turn on.....
Any ideas or hints?

While following instructions in manual, it tells me I need a lock code. Where can I find it?
"Lock Mode
When the phone is in Lock Mode, restrictions are placed on phone use. You can
receive calls and messages, but cannot place outgoing calls (except for emergency

the volume key. Your phone’s Lock Code is required. To access Lock settings:

Isn't it a (4 digit?) code that you create yourself, or is there a default code already set?

Hello guys,
I recently upgraded to Windows 10 and I am having some issues.
First one is: When I click jpg, gif, or any image files that uses the photo viewer as a default viewer, photo viewer pops up twice, one with the file I selected and one with the collection screen. It only does this on the first view of a image file after reboot. Once it does this, it doesn't do it until I reboot.
Second one is: I use a PIN as my login password. The number lock on the log in screen doesn't work. I almost always have to press NUM Lock button in order to use the number key pad. I checked the BIOS setting and Num Lock is on.
I will be appreciate any help.

You've posted 2 different problems that should have been separate posts. I don't have a solution to the first but the second is probably because the keyboard driver has not yet loaded before getting logged in. I saw the same during setup of a new ASUS Notebook just yesterday that came with Win8.1. Disconcerting was the lack of a light or screen indication that the NumLk key had been pressed, just noticed the same is occurring on my Dell Inspiron 15R that has been Upgraded to Win10 although it is a rescued/rehabbed Notebook, it does have the light on the front edge of the case, just does not turn on.
