Preferred Solution: Freeware Office suite that's MS compatible?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, I run a Windows XP Media Center Edition (2005 Version), and recently purchaced the Microsoft Office Small Business Suite upgrade version for this computer. Because it is MCE, I cannot access my work domain network (MCE blocks this application). Kind of defeats the purpose of having the suite, I wanted to link my Full Outlook version to my Web Access version. Anyway, my question is, if I purchased a new computer with a Vista operating system, would the office suite I've already purchased work?

Answer:Solved: Microsoft office suite compatible with vista?

Office 2003 is supposed to work with vista if that is your version.
You would need the original install disk along with the upgrade disk.
The upgrade is not a stand alone product and can't be used for
a cean installation.
Have you checked your firewall to make sure the needed ports aren't blocked
or possibly looked into setting up VPN to login?

We have it on 2 of the 3 computers we have and it doesn't seem to be compatible with Word as it is said to be. When my daughter attaches her assignments to her professor it doesn't work.

It is on a refurbished Dell ( XP PRO Interl® Celeron® CPU: 2.40 GHZ, 2.39Ghz, RAM: 504 MB).

What might I try to get these programs to sync?

Thanks so much!

Answer:compatibility of "open office" suite and Microsoft Office Suite?

Hello alpad,

When she saves the document to send to the professor, which format is she saving it in? If she saves it as the default .odt, Word won't be able to open it. In the small window by "Save as Type" she needs to click the arrow to cause the drop down menu to come up, then select the proper Word version to save it as. My version of Open Office has the following MS Word options:

MS Word 97/2000/XP (.doc)
MS Word 95 (.doc)
MS Word 6.0 (.doc)

There is also an XML version. The latest version of Open Office, version 3, is also compatible with MS Word 2007; however, I don't know how that appears in the drop down menu as I don't yet have that version of Open Office.

Once she has chosen the proper Word format, then she needs to save the document. This is the version she should submit to the professor.

Answer:Freeware Security Suite

CCleaner has some properties which can be useful, even though you can perform most of these using Windows applications, but it is also a registry cleaning toolBleeping Computer DOES NOT recommend the use of registry cleaners/optimizers for several reasons:? Registry cleaners are extremely powerful applications that can damage the registry by using aggressive cleaning routines and cause your computer to become unbootable. The Windows registry is a central repository (database) for storing configuration data, user settings and machine-dependent settings, and options for the operating system. It contains information and settings for all hardware, software, users, and preferences. Whenever a user makes changes to settings, file associations, system policies, or installed software, the changes are reflected and stored in this repository. The registry is a crucial component because it is where Windows "remembers" all this information, how it works together, how Windows boots the system and what files it uses when it does. The registry is also a vulnerable subsystem, in that relatively small changes done incorrectly can render the system inoperable. For a more detailed explanation, read Understanding The Registry.? Not all registry cleaners are created equal. There are a number of them available but they do not all work entirely the same way. Each vendor uses different criteria as to what constitutes a "bad entry". One cleaner may find entries on your system that ... Read more

I was using an app called System Repair Engineer off and on for a while but it expired. I went to the publishers web site and discovered they have a whole freeware suite. Included are the following programs:
> System Repair Engineer with all plugins
> Windows Shell Menus Manager
> File Digital Sign Verify Tool
> Windows Notifaction Area Tooltip Fix Tool
> Windows Installer UnUsed File Cleanup Tool
> RenamePlus
> PendMove
The names of the programs and what they do is more-or-less self explanatory.
So, check it out at http://www.kztechs.com/eng/download.html
I'm pretty sure the individual programs can be downloaded separately, and they also have plug ins for SysRepEng (a Network Activity plugin, a Windows Shell Menu Manager plugin, and others). Good stuff. Maybe Major Geeks should look in to hosting some of this stuff????

Well hi there, i think this is my first topic i have made since joining lol so ill try my best to be clear as possible.

Well recently my anti-virus software has expired its subscription which was Norton Internet Security 08 but i made a grave mistake in installing this at first, cause it was clearly ate my CPU's memory lol and i hated it for this reason even though the features were good it was just too much of a memory hog, so i was wondering if someone could advise me on which freeware anti-virus/malware software i should get next (even though Norton was free for me lol, its a long story anyways), cause clearly i cannot pick one by my self, if i do ill just end up with another software eating my systems memory lol and one of my friends advised me on getting the Zonealarm security suite, is this any good? can anyone tell me thank you, so if any members be kind enough to point me towards the right direction, i would be grateful, thank you.

Ohh and by the way i have spybot and ad-ware on my system aswell and if possible would be able to let me know if i need additional security software installed in addition to this.

Hello all, the entire Office 2003 suite one day looks old like 2000 or Windows 2000 icons in general.

Does anyone know why this happened and how it could be fixed?

Thanks.

Answer:Entire Office 2003 suite looks like Office 2000

This had happened to me once but in office 2007. It happened when I tried to open an older file type so It went into compatibility mode, which also changes the layout.

Not sure if its the same thing with office 2003 but go into options, advanced, and see if you can find something like compatibility options or layout.

Anyway if its not their your looking for some kind of option like that so snoop around all the options, views, and windows menus.

Hi
One promising tagline in SSuite Office?s homepage is No Java and No Net. Why is this important? It means that the software runs perfectly on older PCs
1)SSuite Office - The Fifth Element:
This office suite introduces some new innovative concepts in interface design and user-friendly application interaction. You get instant system access, top class application design and a cleaner desktop to name a few. The graphical-user-interface has been made into a more iconic-toolbar, mouse centric type of interface. This increases user-interaction speed and user productivity. This office suite was created to be as useful as possible to whom ever needed an office suite, and not to battle it out with the competition or try to replace them. So... if you enjoy a more uncluttered desktop, cleaner looking application interfaces, and faster software interaction, then this office suite is for You.
SSuite Office offers, aside from these three usual applications, its own email application called My EZmail, a browser, and a database called MonoBase.
It includes seven dictionaries for spell schecking: American, British, Dutch, French, Italian, Spanish, and German.
SSuite Office is compatible with all MSOffice documents thus preserving existing and valuable documents. More importantly, SSuite Office will not disrupt office work flow because existing MSOffice files can be read natively, averting the need to convert files. My wife has a new laptop running Windows 7 and has migrated from Xp (which she loved) I have transferred most of her files and she now has a problem. Before on the xp laptop she used to work with Microsoft works Suite 2001that ran Microsoft Works 6.0 and mainly the Picture It part of the suite using the Picture It, Publishing 2001 Set up Design and Art.
She still likes this prog as she is very comfortable with it and it does just what she wants it to do. The problem was that when she went to open one of her files it was a php file and tho she has got Office 2007 on her new pc it will not open the file. I tried to install the worksuite 2001 onto the new pc from the original discs that we have and after a while an error comes up unable to load dll file ?? Does this mean it is not compatible and if so can anyone reccomend a (free if possible) program that we can use to open/use the php files

Office 2016 Installation Routine Deleting Older Stand-alone Apps

I can't say I wasn't warned. I was part way through installing Microsoft Office 2016 on my primary workstation when I got a message that said, "Stop, you should wait to install Office 2016." The error message went on to say that if I decided to continue anyway, my copy of Microsoft Visio Standard 2013 would be removed. Since I had the original disk from when I purchased the software, I went ahead. Bad move. It turns out that when Microsoft says that Visio 2013 won't work with Office 2016, it means it won't even have the chance to work. Any attempt to reinstall the software will be thwarted. The fact that you paid for the software is beside the point. You're basically out of luck. When I went to the Microsoft community forums, which is where Microsoft handles much of its tech support, I discovered that I wasn't alone. Apparently hundreds of people who'd purchased stand-alone Microsoft Office products were affected, and they weren't happy about it.

Furthermore, the problem extended far beyond Visio. Users with Microsoft Project, Publisher, Access, InfoPath and SharePoint Designer were also affected. Likewise, Microsoft customers who purchased Office Apps that are normally part of Office suites but may have been purchased separately, such as Outlook 2013, were also affected.

My Onedrive app on Ipad Mini opens the Office files in an Excel or Word version which is more advanced than the one I have on my Lumia 920 so Office on Lumia can not open them. How do you expect WP8.1 to be a success when Office functionality is so low and even lower than DocToGo and when are you going to update?

You're not understanding it correctly. MS is not offering some office tools freeware, if, by "office tools", you mean MS Office, or even MS Works.

However, OpenOffice is a freeware alternative to MS Office. And, it's compatible with MS Office up through Office 2003. And, I understand a forthcoming version of OpenOffice will be compatible with MS Office 2007. OpenOffice is not a Microsoft product.

I have used Lotus 123, Wordpro and Freelance (or earlier versions from Lotus for up to 20 years! I am used to writing macros in 123 linked to Freelance to automatically update graphs etc on a daily basis. Should I consider going through the learning curve of switching to Microsoft, or will Lotus keep up - is it still available? I am retired now so do not need to be quite so up to date, and only want to consider Lotus or Microsoft, rather than other suites. Any views?

Answer:Office Suite

I've never used Lotus but I've got used to MS office. If you don't do that much anyway you might consider OpenOffice as its free.If your old Lotus still works and you're used to it I don't see why you don't just keep using it.As a cheaper alternative to the full office you could also consider MS Works.

Question: Best Office suite

Hi all!! I am a newbie in this forum.. My dad has recently shifted to his new office and he needs a new office suite..As it is he's gonna buy so I am thinking of upgrading my personal pc as well. I suggested him the Microsoft Office 2007 Professional. What do you say guys? Shall we go for it? Also the price I found here http://ecostsoftware.com was ?291 and pc world is having the same for ?350 http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/product/seo/652219. I want to know why is there such a huge difference between the prices when the product is da same? I am really confused. Dont wanna suggest something wrong to my dad and get my pocket money screwed up..Help Guys!! Thanks in advance..

Answer:Best Office suite

I'm not familiar with http://ecostsoftware.com but it seems to be legitimate.  Yes, the price difference between the two sites is substantial, but I don't think the prices on http://ecostsoftware.com are any indication of pirated/illegal software.  If you come across MS Office selling for, say, a third or less than the normal retail price, that's when you really need to be suspicious.  So, I would buy from http://ecostsoftware.com.  If either you or your father already have an older version of MS Office, an upgrade version of Office 2007, rather than a full version, will save money.  And, you might also review the differences between versions of MS Office 2007.  For example, if you have no need for Access, then the Standard edition may be quite adequate for you.  And, then, there's an entirely free alternative: OpenOffice.org.

I have a brand new CD of Star office 6, plus the set up guide. This has NEVER been installed or registered. It retails at about £59 or so. If anyone is interested I will post it to them in return for a charity contribution. Please do not e mail me from the site. If someone expresses an interest, I will send them my home address details by e-mail, and will post the program to them when I receive a cheque for £20 made out to 'AGE CONCERN'. My wife works as a volunteer worker for them and will take the cheque to the local office when she next attends. This is genuine. I do not need the program myself as I already have Microsoft Office 2000.

I too have a brand new, unregistered copy of Star Office and will sell it for £25 (more expensive than Andsome's). Just contact me and send a cheque, payable to "Mission Care (Ivy Willis House)". After looking through several posts, I am wondering which is the best application to replace MS Office. I have seen a few suggestions, still I see nothing that will completely replace MS Office. I use office Outlook, word, XL, and occasionally presentation and PPS.

Here are the three suggested, none of which can replace MS Office.
Open Office (Apache)
Libre Open Office
WPS Office Free

Is there a better application out there that is safe? I had problems with peripherals working after installing Libre Open Office and uninstalled it, using System Restore.

Or along with any of these recommendations is there an  additional application that would provide the other MS Office functions?

All recommendations are considered and thanks for your help.

Answer:Office Suite Best Choice

WPS Office Free would be my choice. I have found that files that choke on Libre or Open Office open fine in WPS. WPS seems to have the best compatibility with Microsoft Office.

I purchased MS Office Suite Home and Student 2010 without the Outlook component.

3 months later thru a promotion at work I was offered MS Office Suite Professional 2010 which I took advantage of to get the Outlook.

Problem is that the Home and Student was downloaded and installed and working fine in a 64bit and the product from work was 32bit. Not compatible.

I want to uninstall the 64 and install the 32bit so that I can have the Outlook program but I want to do so as CLEANLY as possible.

Can anyone help me go thru the steps?

Answer:MS Office suite 2010

Welcome to WSF.

Office 2010 64-bit will uninstall quite happily via Control Panel>Uninstall Programs, but you might want to use a third-party uninstaller such as Revo, which will scan the registry for remnants and leftover files.

Make sure you reboot after you've uninstalled the 64-bit version, and then install your 32-bit version.

Question: Open Office Suite

Does anyone know anything about this program? I've been having a bit of trouble with my office 2000 (word) and was wondering if it was worth a try. I assume it's safe to use?

Answer:Open Office Suite

It is safe to use. If you were working with word 2000, then yes, open libre (office) will work fine. Though, if you use macros or anything special, you'll have to re-work them.

We are currently going from 2007 to 2010. Surprisingly the transition from 2003 to 2007 wasn't as bad as going from 2007 to 2010. The users aspect that is.

Saw this on ebay. Claims that 'Sun Office Suite Professional is a Microsoft Office compatibleoffice suite software package for Windows thatincludes word, excel, powerpoint, and frontpage compatible programs that open, edit, and saveMicrosoft Office and HTML documents'. All for £7.95?? Anyone tried this? (No Im not a seller, just interested in the excel and powerpoint)

Answer:Sun Office Suite Professional

It is pretty close to MSO; PCA did an evaluation of it using members of this forum and people had mixed reactions to it. Personally I found it good, but I don't go in for much of the advanced features. It will depend on the version though; version 6 is good, version 5.2 less so.

Here is where I'm at, when I click on MS Word, nothing opens. In Task Manager, winword.exe runs for about 2-3 seconds then disappears. "winword /a" (safe mode?) does the same thing. Excel, same thing. No error messages, nothing in Event Viewer!

Now here's what lead up to it, the user installed Office 2007 Ultimate, via a download from school website, and for some reason it didn't work. After a reinstall or two, it was completely fouled up. The program was essentially missing, yet was listed in Add/Remove. When you click Remove, an hourglass appears then just goes back to Add/Remove after about 10 seconds. I installed MS Windows Installer 4.5, rebooted, and was able to then install Office 2007, then Uninstall, delete office12 user folder, reinstall, no change.

Ran Office self diagnostic tool, says everything is Fine.

Adobe Reader 9.1 had recently been installed, and that may be the culprit, because of the way that is acting. In Add/Remove it gives an error message, can't remove, and when you download the installer, it gives an error, can't install. It opens okay, but when you print a PDF, it gives an error, saying no pages have been selected to print. Foxit Reader works okay. Adobe is trashed, is there a manual way to remove it? I couldn't find an uninstaller tool.

Found a MSKB article that was semi-specific to this problem, but did not help. I think at this point a system restore would either fail or just cause problems. I ran dial-a-fix, ran the security fi... Read more

Answer:Office 2007 suite will NOT run on XP SP3

Solved.

Used Revo to uninstall Office and Adobe software, cleaned registry with Eusing, updated bios from old version... and voila, it worked. I suspect Adobe software fouled it up , procmon reported insufficient resource on a bunch of registry calls. -Just needed some cleaning, and worked fine. Too bad Microsoft diagnostic couldn't detect anything, that reported there were no errors with the app.

I installed MS Office 2007 Pro on my then new Dell Latitude D830 laptop computer running Windows 7 about 8 months ago. I am buying a new computer from the Dell outlet, an XPS 8100 with Windows 7, but no programs, to replace my 10 year old Dell Dimension desktop running Windows XP and MS Office 2003. I have never configured nor (obviously) used the Outlook 2007 program on the laptop. I want to remove the Office 2007 pro Outlook program from my laptop and re-install it on the new desktop along with a new MS 2010 Office Home and Student licensed suite. Can I legally do this?...if not can I remove the entire 2007 suite from my laptop and re-install it on the new desktop? I'd then put a new MS 2010 Office Home and student licensed suite on the laptop...I never need to use Outlook on the laptop. Not sure about how Microsoft reacts to previously web activated suites being re-activated on a different computer...
Thanks for any help....

Answer:Move MS Office suite

If you have a license for Outlook or Office 2007 you can install just Outlook 2007 alongside the Office 2010 installation unless it is an OEM copy that came with the computer. If it is OEM you can only have it installed on the computer it came with.

I made the terrible mistake of trying to upgrade my WIN 7 os to WIN 10! Long story short my laptop was useless after I did the download. Fortunately I had backed up my important files. But I have alot of documents in MS Word, PP and Excel so I need the MS Office suite.1.  I understand that because I paid for that suite when I bought the laptop I should be able to get it replaced for free. Any advice on that?2.  I have been on the HP support web site trying to contact them about this issue and, man, submitting this request has been like having teeth pulled with no novicane! Maybe it's jut me but - this site only runs you round in circles!   I found a contact HP support page wherby I fill out a description of my problem with my contact info but there is no SUBMIT button.  I recently installed an update.  Shortly afterward I encountered a .dll error when attempting to open Microsoft Excel.  I attempted to repair the program twice, with no success.  Same with Word.  I uninstalled MS Office with the intent of reinstalling.  However, when I attempted to do that, I was asked for my MS account info, along with a product key.  My laptop came with MS Office pre-installed, so I do not have a product key. One hour of chat with Microsoft technical support resulted in the customer service representative suggesting I contact the manufacturer, as the software was pre-installed. I am using a wireless connection on my home network.  This laptop is my personal equipment. Anyone else have this problem?

Answer:Problems with MS Office suite

I am having the EXACT same problem. I bought a BRAND NEW HP All-In-One 22-3110. Went through all the set up phase and registered with Microsoft for the download of the pre-installed Office. Keeps asking for a product key which is not available. Microsoft blames HP and HP blames Microsoft. Have WASTED several hours trying to resolve this issue with "Customer Support" with NO HELP from either. So much for customer service. THANKS HP. Will return this POS I bought from you, advise my friends of this and buy else where. Hmmm, MAC? They have compatable Microsoft programs noe.

It sounds like your Tracked Changes is on. Go to the Review tab. If the Tracked Changes button is highlighted, drop it down and click "Track Changes". That should turn it off. You'll still see the previous tracked changes, so you will also need to drop down the button for Accept and choose Accept All Changes in Document. Then you should be back to normal.

I have home office 2007 for vista, when i try to open the word or any of the other office program it pops up with box windows installer. After this runs it pops up with "This update package could not be opened." I tried putting the disc back in to do a repair install but the disc is not reading. I am at a lost about what to do so any advice would be good.
thanks

Answer:Office suite no longer working

When you say the disk is not reading, do you mean nothing at all happens AND that you can't even see the disk in Windows Explorer to select the repair program if it isn't starting automatically or that it gives you an error message (and if so, what exactly word-for-word)? And if you do try find the repair program in Windows Explorer, what happens when you double-click the icon? Absolutely nothing or does the CD drive at least spin up and then do nothing or do you get some type of error message (again, what word-for-word)?

I'm assuming this is a retail version of the product and not a trial version that has simply expired (if so, you just need to purchase the retail product and install it to replace the trial). Has it ever worked on the system or have you just now installed it for the first time? Was there a prior version of Office installed before you installed this one and if so was this an upgrade or a clean new installation (and if a clean new installation, was the prior version COMPLETELY removed before you installed the new one)?

Compliments of Vinay - G Microsoft Support:

Go here, then click the large blue "Download Now @ Bleeping Computer" button to download and save AdwCleaner.exe to your desktop.

Close all open windows first, then double-click AdwCleaner.exe to load its main window.

When the log appears, save it.

Hi all,

I'm running an old Samsung NP-NC10 netbook with Windows XP. It has a 16GB SSD (14.8 GB usable) and 2GB of RAM. It's just for tinkering and occasionally for writing papers or presentations while deployed. I'm looking for one of the free office suites for offline work, but need to know what has the smallest footprint. Windows and the AV/Firewall software only take about 5GB, so I have a little over 9GB left. While LibreOffice fits, it fills most of the drive and I really only need Word/Excel/Powerpoint equivalents. Everything else is fluff I likely won't use. Thank you in advance for your time and your help.

Install the portable version of LibreOffice to a USB flash drive and run it form there. Double click the exe file and install it to your flash drive. You can also install the Portable Apps Launcher then install Libre Office. This will allow you to easily launch other portable apps from the main interface.

Answer:ashampoo office suite 2016

You ask the similar question like to ask what the difference between 7z and WinZip. They just can not be compared.
If you ask if either Ashampoo Office 2016 or Softmaker Office 2016 would be another thing.
For example, I prefer WPS instead others, was previously known as Kingsoft Office.
It's just your choice, which to prefer.

Just purchased a new laptop - which runs Windows 8. Will I be able to run Microsoft Office Suite 2002 on this? I love using "Money" which is included in this Suite. Unfortunately the computer doesn't come with much software (Dell). Also I'm wondering what mail program is included in this Inspiron 15R Windows 8 (Inspiron 5521) . Right now I use Windows Mail.

Does anyone have any experience with Kingsoft's office suite (the free one)?

I was downloading Foxit's pdf reader the other day and noticed they appeared to be offering a Foxit office suite on their site. Digging a little deeper, I noticed it was basically the Foxit pdf reader bundled with a Kingsoft developed office suite. I went over to Kingsoft's site for a more direct look and liked that the suite weighed in at less than 40mb (compared to the 200 or so for the more feature rich Libre Office I usually use). I figured it must be a pretty lean and nimble package and that has a certain appeal to me. That said, I'll admit that I raised an eyebrow when I saw that Kingsoft was based way out in Hong Kong, China.

Just curious as to whether anyone has used any Kingsoft software and could weigh in with some quick opinions.

Answer:Anyone used Kingsoft's office suite (free)?

I've used it. There is a button on the main screen that ask you to switch to the paid version but otherwise it's fully featured and very similar to Word 2003.

This is a two part question. I recently bought (from a third party) a Sony VAIO laptop with Vista as the OS. I have downloaded multiple copies of Windows Office from a source lets call....LimeLine or LemonWire, but keep getting prompted to enter a 16 or something digit verification number. I DONT HAVE ONE!!! How can I get a copy of windows that will work with Vista for free so I can utelize the Office Suite. Or Should I replace Vista with XP Pro and then start the whole process over? Signed, super frustrated

Answer:Windows Office Suite for Vista

These are pirated copies of the Office program are illegal to run on ANY machine.

You need to BUY a copy of Office which will give a "Key Code" to use, then you can legally use the program.

I unistalled Microsoft Office some time ago, but Windows 7 keeps trying to install updates for it. This is slowing shutdown and reboot considerably. How can I stop Windows from updating software which is no longer on the system?

Answer:Will Office 2007 Pro Integrate With Works Suite

What do you mean by "integrate"? Are you referring to document conversion? Also, you refer to Works, and also to Word 2002 - are there issues with this also?

Hello all! I searched and couldn't find the answer to the following question.

I have Office 2010 - two licenses at that, and want to remove the Office 2010 Suite from one computer and out it on another. Do I just go in and set it up on the new/replacement computer and at the point of activation when I try and activate the license it will tell me that I can't and that I need to call Microsoft...is this what is going to happen, or can I "deactivate" the license on the computer that is going to be dead soon??

Any help is appreciated!

Answer:Migrate Office 2010 Suite from Old Computer to New One

First issue, if this is an "OEM" version, such as what is on new PC's, the it is only legally licensed for the PC it was delivered with and you would need a new copy of Office (to be legal). Microsoft (Usually) will not reactivate an OEM licensed version on a different PC.

If this is a "Retail" copy of Office you should be able to install it and call Microsoft and get it deactivated from the old PC and activated in the new PC.

Since I switched over to my Vista Home Premium system (new PC included) my Office extras have been glitching something fierce. A prime example, one that annoys me to no end, is that my office assistant won't change - it keeps trying to tell me there isn't enough memory! I know that is false considering my PC has at least 432GB free memory and runs at 3Gh, but I don't know what to do to fix it. Help!
