Fujitsu laptop not showing full memory upgrade

Question: Fujitsu laptop not showing full memory upgrade

I have installed a Cruical 1gig memory upgrade to my laptop but it only shows up as 512mb in bios and windows. Cruical say that I need to flash the bios with the latest update. Is this right. I donot want to try this unless it will fix the fault as I understand if it goes wrong then the laptop will be a scrapper. The upgarde is a single module and fitted in the first slot after removing the original 256mb module. Refitting the original module the bios shows correctly 256mb. Any Ideas?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Fujitsu laptop not showing full memory upgrade

"Cruical say that I need to flash the bios with the latest update. Is this right."Probably - Crucial are generally regarded as a trustworthy and competent company. However if you want someone to confirm what they said, you'll have to post details about your system and motherboard.

hi,thanks for looking, bought a 4gb comprising 2x2gb modules crucial memory upgrade for my acer aspire notebook 5630, running vista,as vista is quite a memory hog, anyhow put it in all booted fine no bleeps or error messages, however belarc advisor program and siw are only showing the upgrade at 3mb,cant make this out any ideas, before i venture into the bios settings etc not keen to touch much in there,

Answer:memory upgrade on acer aspire laptop not showing

You will get with a 32 bit version of Vista....It can only really use 2gb effectively. If you want to use the full 4gb, you would need the 64bit version of the os.I would not suggest this with a laptop as driver support is still flaky. Rest assured that your new ram is all there....It's just the os that can't see it.

Any help to correct this problem would be appreciated.
I don't know if this is a hardware issue or a software issue. Whenever I press certain letters I get a numeric stroke. For example:

The only reason I'm able to type this is because I've connected another keyboard up to the laptop.

Answer:Solved: Fujitsu laptop keyboard showing wrong characters

Most likely you have some kind of number lock feature on. It's so you can use the letters as you would a number pad on a standard keyboard.

Try to find a key on your keyboard labeled "Num Lock" and press it (you may have to hold down something like an "Fn" key while pushing the Num Lock button).

hi there i recently ran crucial memory check program on wifes fujitsu amilo fx40? laptop, results said i could increase memory to 1 gb.i put in 1 512 memory stick but machine still only showing 256 in properties rather than the 512 + 128 sticks that are i need to alter anything in the bios or do you have any other thought as to why memory not being picked up correctly.lastly, ive tried to look up the model fx40 but unable to find any listings so it may not actually be an fx40

Answer:fujitsu laptop memory

Hi, have you tried swapping the Memory sticks in the slots - or, try the 512 on its own. To get up to 1Gb you would probably need to fit a pair of 512's. Some machines don't like mixed memory, i.e. different sized sticks.

Hi, I am looking for some advice on upgrading the memory on a F/S Amilo Pro v2010 laptop. I have worked on desktop systems, replacing memory, hard drives and DVD / CD players and writers but have never tried it with a laptop.I can get the correct memory from Crucial but what I need is either information on how to access and exchange the memory sticks or a site that can give this info.. I have tried the official F/S site but that only recommends getting the job done by an approved dealer, and I cannot see the point of paying to get some thing done when with a bit of help I should be able to do it myself. All and any advice would be gratefully accepted.Wotan.

Answer:Fujitsu-Seimens Laptop upgrade

Apart from upgrading the memory and perhaps the hard drive theres nothing you can do to a laptop.I don't know the one you have but if its like the ones I have worked on theres only 2 slots and these are underneath one of the screw off panels and you just remove the panel and install the memory and thats it.Its really not differcult, if you have a search for a video on the subject you can easily find one.

I am unsure it will support new 45nm processors. However, the older T7xxx series processor may work in this notebook.

But frankly, if I have to make this decision, I'd rather sell this older rig, and buy a new one, because upgrading a notebook isn't worth much IMHO. Regards

1. Atleast 4 times, 95% of 3GB RAM is being used and hence making the system freeze or dead slow; but in Task manager processes list, nothing big is shown.

2. Whenever I try to open Internet Explorer (32 bit) and any windows utility (ex Task manager/My computer) together, system freezes.

I am pasting my hijackthis log here. It would be of great help if some one can help regardign this problem.

Hi -

What is it that you are protecting your system from?

Your RAM is undoubtedly being eaten by numerous firewalls, anti-virus apps, other. . .

AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5
Lavasoft Ad-Aware
Zone Labs ZoneAlarm
Dell DataSafe Online
Spybot - Search & Destroy
Plus you have Office 12 (2007) - a heavy resource app in itself, Google Talk and 7 Google Chrome Screens open.

You must get rid of ALL of the security related apps, then reset the Windows Firewall and choose one anti-virus app.

Use the induvidual product's removal tool -
Zone Alarm -->

Lavasoft As-Aware -->

AVG - you have both v7.5 & 9 installed -->

Run each removal tool; re-boot in between each

Reset the Windows Firewall to its default settings -
START | type FirewallSettings.exe into the start search box | click on FirewallSettings.exe above | select the Advanced Tab | click on "Restore Defaults" | Click Apply, OK

Use AVG 9 for anti-virus -

I have an Acer PC which only had 512mb RAM in it so I ran a check thru the Crucial website and bought a 1GB upgrade.I put it in but the pc is only seeing it as 768mb giving a total of 1.2GBI tried moving the RAM into different slots (it has 4 slots and can take up to 4GB according to Crucial) but its not made any difference. Also, I`ve started to get occasional blue screen errors causing shutdown. I googled this and bad RAM seems likely to be the culprit.Could someone point me in a general direction please. I don`t have the PC spec to hand but I will get more details if it helps.Thx

I recently purchased 4GB of memory for a 8148-u15 thinkcentre. The memory I purchased was corsair DDR 1GB PC2700 memory. My issues is all the DIMMs show up as 25% of their capacity, so as of now I have 4 1GB DIMMs installed and the system sees 1GB. I can take out down to 1 and the system will show 256MB. Any thoughts on this?

Answer:Memory Upgrade showing up incorrect

Right click on My Computer and select properties. Look at the total Ram installed. If this matches what you have installed then everythings alright. Sometimes this could be a bug in the BIOS. But not always.Message Edited by jasonhockeyguy on 03-25-2008 01:22 PM

Hi all, I added a Corsair Vengeance 4GB to my T530 which comes with a stock Samsung 4GB ram, but CPUID showed that the memory speed has been lowerd to 667MHz instead of 800MHz, any advice on how to make them run at the defalut speed(800MHz) would be greatly appreciated! P.S. I tried to upgrade the BIOS to the newest version but no use.

Answer:T530 memory not at full speed after upgrade with 4GB Corsair Vengeance

I?m not absolutely 100% positive but I?ll bet that your CPU is running at 1333FSB.  Since your RAM can?t run faster than your CPU, in order to get it to run at 800 you?ll need to overclock your CPU to 1600.

It shows up in device manager under the USB section and says the device is working properly, the drivers are from 2001. It also shows up in the Safely Remove hardware icon on the taskbar and it removes safely etc but i cannot access it. In disk manager it shows up but it says the drive is "not initialized". Hi, hoping someone can help as I'm not very technically savvy with computers! I bought a laptop as a replacement for my desktop which is 8 years old. I've downloaded the discs so I can use my digital camera and mobile phone and also Sims (I have a teenager!) and its saying that the memory (supposedly 1GB as advertised when i bought it) only has 7.60GB free of 39.00GB? I haven't even started moving over my files etc from my old desktop. Is the laptop faulty or am i doing something wrong? Many thanks.

Answer:memory full on new laptop

You appear to be confused re Memory and Hard drive Capacity.Yes, your laptop probably does have 1Gb of Memory, which is fine, but your other 'Memory' is in fact your Hard drive which on the face of it looks like a 40Gb Drive.Right-click on your My Computer, then Left-click on Properties .... look at the General tab and this will show you how much Memory your computer has. Then Open your My Computer and hover the mouse cursor over the C: Drive icon, you will then be able to see the capacity of your hard drive, and also how much is Free and how much is being used.

My laptop is showing 128 MB instead of  2 GB in display adapter. Laptop specs are:
model- dell inspiron 5447 i7
Video memory - 2GB
hdd- 1TB

Answer:My laptop is showing 128 MB as a dedicated video memory instead of 2 GB?

The 128 MB is a frame buffer - not the video RAM.  The Intel GPU in the system will use system RAM for video.
If the system also has an AMD or nVidia GPU, realize that while it does have dedicated video RAM, it's not a true discrete GPU - it's a coprocessor for the Intel GPU.  Your applications need to be set up to use it through the control panel (Radeon or Optimus).

Hello, have been searching the net for an answer to this question with no satisfactory answers.

System details,
Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit
Intel Core 2 Duo 6600 2,4GHz
2GB Ram
500GB Packard Bell External Hard Drive - USB connection

I have a 500GB external hard-drive and Windows Vista is currently telling me it is full. When I check the hard-drive properties in Explorer it also shows up as very close to full. However when I select all folders on the hard-drive and check properties the size is only approx half. i.e 216GB

The drive system is NTFS and I have made sure in "Folder Options/View" that hidden files and folders are shown.

Does anyone have an idea what this could be ?

Yes and No.No as the comupter and components are designed to best suite with eachother. So manufacturers will not support using incompatible parts though custamization is accepted.Yes as there are technicians who can mix and match the components but the combination needs regular maintenance and watch. I would not recommand doing this as it may end up in failutes and issues.Workaround would be to buy a HD monitor(ecternal) and connect it. There are n number of options in HD monitor to choose from.

Hello,I have had this computer less than 2 months. Yoga 11s.   I have not transferred any of my files from my old computer; have only downloaded a couple of simple apps and the MS office and the occasional movie and my computer is saying my HD is full.  Today I tried to download a movie only 600 mb and it paused and said I don't have enough space tho when I look, there is more than 2 GB on my HD.  The other fun thing that I've spent hours trying to figure out is that my windows 8 OS is also showing full memory; again have barely done anything on this computer.  It offered the disk check bit where it compresses and gets rid of old files, but 1 hour later, bet the same message and it's showing RED--almost at max capacity. So frustrated. Can you offer any suggestions?

Hey dudes,

I apologise in advance that this is likely a very stupid question. It may be my hungover brain not coping with this.

Someone brought a little 256mb fujitsu memory stick thing to work today, and the computer they need to use it on is just plain rubbish. The cd writer doesn't write, the floppy disk drive doesn't read and its running windows 98.

Now, its not my place to change any of this, but it would be nice if I could at least find and download the drivers from fujitsu for it so I could install them on the machine and use it.

I have searched the internet for these drivers, but it is confusing the **** out of me. I'm sure someone here can probably do this very easily... it would be great if someone would help out and post a link or something. Its a little USB keyring drive thing.

Thanks folks,

Hi, I'm Steve. I'm currently living in Japan, and am not a very good Japanese reader... so appologies for the rather simple questions.

I've acquired (someone threw it out! honesly!) a Fujitsu FMV C-600 box. It's got a 1.7 GHZ Celron CPU (SL68C, 1.7GHz/128/400/1.75) and otherwise works (after a little bit of fixing here & there). I'd really like to upgrade the CPU, and have been eyeing a 2.4GHz Celron - though I can't quite make out the actual CPU spec's through the shop window other than it's a 400 MHz FSB. The questions I have are:

1) Can I simlpy plug & play with a similar FSB CPU and expect it to work ? eg. replace the above Celeron 1.7 GHz with a 2.4 GHz version having the same FSB speed. Or do I also need to consider the voltage support, Max. temp. (it's rather hot over here!)

2) The M/b in this case is a Gigabyte OEM version - KBG2 rev. 1.1 ... sadly I've only so far found instances of this m/b in Italy & Germany as well as Japan, and Gigabyte's site makes no mention of it... so I'm stuck when it comes to whether or not I can upgrade. Is the CPU plug & play replacement going to be dictated by the motherboard (assuming FSB is the same) or by the BIOS... ? (as an aside the M/b takes PC2100 memory... if that helps).

3) The Manufacturer's web site, however does say that there are two versions of the same PC produced with a Pentium 4 2A GHz and P4 2.40 GHz processor (though doesn't sa... Read more

Answer:Can I upgrade a Fujitsu c600?

hmm.. i'm not too familiar with the fujitsu c600 but i'm guessing its a laptop correct?

The main thing as far as i know about changing processors is to look at the Socket type or Pin type.. after all, a 487pin CPU can't fitt into a socket with 775 pins get the idea?

You can try finding out a bit more about your hardware by using a hardware reader like SIW (if you're running windows) or Everest Home etc. Then you can look at what processors are compatible and which ones you can choose from.

I've been trying to upgrade a 60gb hard drive of a Fujitsu Lifebook S6231 to a 250gb hard drive.

I purchase the Apricorn Universal USB upgrade kit, but when I clone the disk and install it, all I get is a blinking cursor. I called up Apricorn and they mentioned that maybe the BIOS does not support larger hard drives. There are no later bios firmware to upgrade to. Also the CSR told me to try a "AS IS" clone which keeps the partition the same size on the new drive and then try using Partition Magic to expand it. I tried that and I still get a blinking cursor

I looked on the Apricorn website and they sell hard drives for my Lifebook, but the largest they sell is 120gb. So I figure maybe the largest HD the bios will support is 120gb and I go to Fry's and get one. I clone the disk and I still get a blinking cursor.

Any suggestions?

Hello all,

I'm having trouble installing a RAM upgrade on a Fujitsu AMILO L7320GM laptop. It's quite an old laptop and comes with 512MB DDR2 4200 as standard. It an take a max of 2GB in two slots, 1GB in each I presume. I have bought 2x1GB DDR2 5300 Kingston RAM and removed the old RAM and tried to install one RAM module and rebooted only for the laptop to make a seies of 3 beeps and the operating system won't start.

I have checked various websites and apparently the RAM is compatible but for some reason the RAM won't recognise on this laptop.

The laptop is running Win XP home.

I thought about flashing the BIOS but the Fujitsu support site isn't that forthcoming with BIOS updates for this model and I do not have any CDs to burn the BIOS update to. But also in the BIOS update instructions it mentions that only the internal LAN/WAN card is updated.

I can't see why the new RAM modules are not being recognised. It should be quite a straight forward procedure. Can anyone offer any solutions to this or possible pointers as to the best course of action.

Many thanks in advance.

Hello everybody. I read that I could add memory to improve speeds on my laptop, it is a Compaq Evo N600c with two memory slots, one has a 256 MB card in it, so I ordered a 512MB card to fit that model thinking that all i had to do was slip it in? Alas as always that is not the case, when i put the card in and startup it say that I have to do something with the BIOS, so I took it out again. I know very little about computers as I am an old git, can anyone help me through this installation.

Answer:Trying to Upgrade Memory in Laptop.

I just installed some RAM the other day and it went smoothly, are you sure you have the right RAM? what type of RAM did you get? as far as installation goes it is pretty simple.

1.lift the clips on each side of the RAM slot.
2.get the RAM lined up correctly and push it in
3.close the clips, if they wont close you proabably put it in wrong

I ended up getting one side pushed in and clipping it and then pushing down on teh otehr side, i don't know if that is the right way to do it what i did but it worked.

Ihave done a fair bit of PC building but only on desktops and towers; I have obtained a laptop in decent nick but with only 32MB of RAM, it uses PC66 SDRAM - is this the same SDRAM as one uses in a tower?Second question - it has a tiny HDD of only 3GB, in order to replace I gather i need a 2.5 inch HDD is that right? - I have located the screws that hold it all together but before I start to take it apart I would value any guidance on taking laptops to bits that anyone wishes to offerTYMike

Answer:How do I upgrade the memory on a laptop

first bit of advice, if your akin to taking things apart, take photo's, my laptop took 30mins to disassenble and 3 and a half hours to reassemble because i forgot how it went back together and had a spare screw!!secondly, it sounds like an old laptop so parts are going to be hard to source, try click here

Hi , i have a HP nx9020 notebook which comes with 256mb of ram , i want to add another memory stick in the spare slot (either another 256 or 12) I don't like the look of HP's own prices for the extra memory. It's described as HP DRAM Memory (PA525A) 512 MB DDR-SDRAM Module (333 MHz) My question is , Is this kind of ram available elsewhere or do i have to buy from HP ?I have looked elsewhere but its confusing , i see SODDIM , PC2700 , 200 PIN , PC2100 , DDR .I am at a loss to what all that means .

Hey Guys,
I just got a laptop handed down to me. It is a Toshiba Satellite A105-S4094.
I installed Windows Vista on it and everything is running solid. I have done a little reading about this laptop and found out that it can be upgraded to 4gb of ram. I opened up the bottom where the memory is located and noticed a 1gb stick and a 512 mb stick. My only issue is that in the specs it says the 512 is soldered.. does this mean i can only upgrade the one slot to either a 2gb or 4gb ddr2 5300 or can i take out both the 1gb and the 512 stick and place in two 2gb sticks or do i only upgrade the one slot? Thanks for any help!!

Answer:Help Me Upgrade My Laptop Memory!!

If the 512 is sldered then yes you have to get one stick sadly.

You can add the new stick of RAM to the 256mb stick already installed. You may find that it is necessary to put the new stick in the first slot for it to work correctly.

No manual so my question is can I upgrade this unit with a 256 stick of memory..tried to get info from Toshiba web site but info very general and I do not understand the specks...can you help?

Answer:Upgrade memory in laptop?

The maximum memory for that laptop is 192 MB. Ithas 64 MB internal.

Hence it will not work with a 256 stick, you can only add a 128 MB to the 64 already on-board.

With a 400 MHz Celeron CPU its not a good choice for XP, it will work but it will be painfully slow.

Hi, The maximum supported are 8 GB (2x4) DDR3 SODIMM. Manual Supports up to 8 GB of system RAM in the following configurations? 8192-MB total system memory (4096-MB × 2, dual-channel)? 6144-MB total system memory (4096-MB × 1 + 2048-MB × 1)? 4096-MB total system memory (2048-MB × 2, dual-channel)? 4096-MB total system memory (4096-MB × 1) The problem of the KVR modules is that sometimes do not work, if you are in the United States, one of the most interesting options is Crucial 1.35v - 1.5v Dual-Voltage DDR3 memory

I bought an asus laptop way back and need to upgrade the memory because I'm running vista with only 1gb of ram. I am planning on buying a 2gb stick as my laptop currently only has 1 1gb stick of ram in it. I just don't know anything about the pin or type or compatibility. I just need to know what i need to look for to make sure it'll work with my computer, where do i start?

Answer:Laptop memory upgrade

Simple, google the laptop system specs, and you will be able to find out all the details you need to. Thats before you crack it open. Be warned, if it is under guarantee then take it back to the shop where you bought it and they will prolly upgrade it for you, if you dont, and something goes wrong you might not be covered by the guarantee, and also your household insurance wont cover it either.

I wated to know how to install some more mempory onto it to make it faster, i dnt know much about laptops but i can do it with PCs, is there much difference.

Alos how much memory am i looking at to make it go faster.

Answer:Memory Upgrade for Laptop

You open up the cover to reveal the memory slots and then you put in the new stick. Just like PCs.

Not really.

Your laptop takes SODIMM memory modules, not your normal DIMM memory.
Be sure to double-check the maximum RAM speed and size supported
- laptops are usually more picky about such things. Also whether you can actually add another stick or do you have to replace the exiting one.
Unless the cover for the memory is obviously marked and openable then you should consult the laptop manual on how to actually get access to the memory slots.

512MB of RAM is plenty for any normal use. Since it's a laptop then I suppose you are not doing any hardcore gaming or multimedia work with it.

I just bought a 15.6" laptop G50 i7 Intel with 8gb of RAM  Can I upgrade the RAM on this laptop?  and up to how many GB's?  what type of Memory and/or model it will take? thanks,  Edy

Answer:15.6" laptop g50 8GB Memory upgrade

hi edybedoya,
The G50 series uses a DDR3L (1.35v) SODIMM and can be maxed out up to 16GB.
- Link to picture (page 28 of the HMM)
In addition, If you're looking into maxing out the RAM, it's best to look under the hood to check if you have a 2x4GB or 1x8GB memory module. If you have the former, you will need to purchase 2x8GB, otherwise, another 8GB should max it out to 16GB.

I have run NoAdware spyware software for about 5 years along with AVG Internet Security full version for 2 years, and previously with Norton Internet Security. NoAdware has been very effective at finding spyware that AVG and Norton paid no attention to. New situation = I just upgraded my AVG v7.5 to v8.0 and had some problems with slow surf speed and getting the firewall configured to work with my wireless router but after a re-install and a few hours of headaches the AVG 8.0 is working fine. My current problem is that after the AVG 8.0 upgrade, NoAdware v5.0 finds a directory file named "AntiVirusGold" in 'C/Program Files/AVG' and gives an option to remove this file from my computer. The NoAdware item description = "Purports to be anti-spyware software, but has been known to be installed through extremely devious methods.". So what do I do; Allow NoAdware to remove the file, which will likely affect operation of AVG Internet Security, or add this "AntiVirusGold" file to the NoAdware ignore list? Or what other options do I have?

Answer:Severe spyware found by NoAdware v5.0 after AVG v7.5 full to v8.0 full upgrade

AntiVirusGold is a rouge program and isn't part of AVG.

Hello Everyone and good day J

I have a lenovo laptop model SL-510 TYPE 2847-BWG

And I want to Upgrade his Memory

So I have been read Detailed specifications in the site of lenovo about my laptop model

( i attached the link in the end of the post )

and see that my laptop model support up to 8GB maximum memory with Dual-channel capable

Then I noticed under the specifications this details :

PC3-8500 Non-Parity (NP) Double Data Rate Three (DDR3) Technology
PC3-10600 Non-Parity (NP) Double Data Rate Three (DDR3) Technology
Dual-channel capable
Two 204-pin SO-DIMM sockets
1 GB, 2GB, 3GB, 4GB,
Supports up to 8GB maximum memory

So of course I would rather upgrade to 8gb ram with 2x4GB

Because I just have two slots ?

But I'm a little confused ? What's better? The PC3-8500 or the PC3-10600 ?

And should I take two sticks of the same model ? same company ?

for they be work on dual Together ?

Of course, I'd love you to recommend me suitable types of memories models

And Recommended Companies

link for Lenovo site specifications of my model ( SL-510 2847-BWG)

I appreciate your help and want to Thanks in advance everyone J

Answer:Need help with my Lenovo laptop memory upgrade SL-510

PC10600 is faster.

It's best to buy a pair of identical sticks (they don't have to be in a kit), but if you're buying the cheapest available then there's little point looking for two different companies. Just buy two at the same time.

I'll miss a few I suspect, but the following brands tend to be okay: "Kingston", "Corsair", "Crucial", "G.Skill", "OCZ"

Hi, HP 2000 is a series of dozens models, what is yours ? Anyway, based on the following link, a tipical HP 200 can have 8Gb of RAM: There are few questions you need to answer: 1. What is the OS of your machine ? 32 bit OS can't address to anything more than 4Gb in this case.2. What is the current configuration ? 2 x 2 or 4 x 1 because the machine has only 2 slots for RAM. From there you can work our the number you need. You can check the following link to buy RAM for your machine: Regards.

Hi All, There have been posts on this subject already, but here goes my issue... I have an 1836-BAU with original 256 mB RAM installed.  I bought a 1gB stick (PC2700 nonecc, unbuffered) memory upgrade.  As soon as I installed it, the system locks up immediately upon powerup.  No screen display, no HDD seek.  Take it back out, replace the original memory, and the unit powers up normally. Reading thru these forum threads with similar issues, I've tried all permutations: main slot, secondary slot, even the "magic 10" (unplug power and battery, push power button 10 times for 10 seconds each...).  Nothing involving the new stick will make it power up normally. To further frustrate me:  I have an identical unit with another 256 mB stick of OEM memory.  For fun, I swapped in the stick of 256 mB from the identical laptop into the suspect laptop.  Same issue as the 1 gB stick!  The unit wouldn't spin up or display anything!  Furthermore, the 1 gB stick wouldn't work in the identical laptop either.  I still don't suspect the 1 gB stick to be the issue, but I won't rule out that it's defective.  But why won't a simple swap of identical 256 mB RAM sticks even work?? My current situation:  I have sent in a support request to the RAM manufacturer for their help and possible diagnosis.  Meanwhile, I reloaded the factory BIOS settings and tried the 1 gB stick, again to no p... Oh... another couple things: FWIW, the laptop is running WXP... I also stuck the original RAM back in, powered up successfully.  Powered down and added the second stick of OEM RAM into the aux RAM slot to see if it would power up with 512 mB.  Nope! What gives??

Hi, I have a Toshiba Equium A100.
It's been a good servant and I really can't afford a new laptop, so I want to get her back to her former glory.
I'd like to, firstly, reinstall windows (but I don't have a disc) and then upgrade whatever I can inside her.
Can I do any of these things?

Answer:Can I upgrade my memory on my old Toshiba laptop?

To reinstall Windows, you'll need to borrow a disc with the same version (exactly) as that already installed. You will also need to be able to read the COA sticker on the underside (they do sometimes get rubbed on laptops).
For memory, go to the Crucial UK website, and run their scanner - it will tell you what is fitted and what can be fitted. Older DDR memory (which yours probably has) is quite expensive new - you may do better getting cheaper generic/used RAM from ebay.

I have an Evesham Voyager 8640 with 512 Mb Ram which I intend to upgrade to 1GB. Having removed the cover, I find the SODIMM and an empty slot which is not a SODIMM slot, having no notch and only about 60 pins. The hanbook spec says "I have an Evesham Voyager 8640 with 512Mb of RAM which I am trying to upgrade to 1 GB. In the handbook, system RAM is specified as "2x200 pin DDR-SODIMM socket for expansion, support PC2100/PC2700 DDR module up to 1 GB." Having removed the cover, I find the SODIMM module with a vacant slot which is clearly not a SODIMM slot. I can find no other slot. Should I simply replace the 512 with a 1GB?I would appreciate any advice or observations

Answer:Laptop memory upgrade problem

Don't know what happened to the rest. Try again- The handbook spec says system RAM is:- "2 x 200 pin DDR-SODIMM socket for expansion, support PC2100/PC2700 DDR module, up to 1 GB" I took that to mean there would be an expansion slot. Removing the cover, I found the SODIMM and adjacent was another empty, non-SODIMM slot. Can anyone make a suggestion? Or should I simply replace the 512 with a 1 GB?

This may be wrong but I seem to remember that when you upgrade memory you should do so in matched pairs ie. 256x2 512x2 and so on. J.B.

I wish to upgrade the memory on my G51-35 80M8 (80M8006NUS) from the installed 8GB to the (theoretically supported maximum) of 16GB.I replace the 2 4GB memory sticks with a brand name (G.Skill) set of 2 8GB sticks (DDR3L-1600) sticks, but when I hit the power button, I get no response.  Two small LEDs on the front of the machine light up, there is some mechanical noise of a fan or drive, but there is nothing on the screen and no further response. Are these machines that sensitive to memory types or do they not actually have a 16GB max?

I have a sony vaio model no. VGN-BX1MN. I need to add memory. System info says I have 2 512 memory modules installed. On removing the memory cover on the back I see only 1 512, yet my computer says it has 1 gig total. Anyone know where the other module is located?I have 2 new 1 gig modules to put in but can only find one slot.If I put one of the new modules in the slot I can see it says I then have 1.5 gig of memory, but its unstable as I suspect the new module doesnt match the existing module(wherever that may be!

This is the memory I am looking at from Best Buy to upgrade my wife's computer for her birthday. I was going to buy her a new computer but money and plans changed. I still want to improve her computing experience, so a new battery and upgrading from her stock 3G of memory to 8G seems like the way to go.
She has an Acer Aspire Model 5552

I just want to make sure there's nothing I need to do other than ground myself before pulling and swapping the memory sticks...

I just tried to upgrade memory ram on this laptop: Sony VGN-TX750P. They say that it supports 1.5GB of DDR2 PC2 3200, 400Mhz.
It cames with a built-in 512MB of the mentioned type. So I bought 1GB, this one: Kingston Value Series 1GB 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 400 (PC2 3200).

The problem is that it doesn't recognize it. Either in Windows nor in the Bios. Like no memory in. Anyone know what could be wrong? or what's the right memory for it?

Thanks in advance,

Have you tried using the new RAM without the old RAM in the machine?

Hello All,

I was wondering if you could help me out here. I recently purchased a Gateway MX6124 laptop and would like to upgrade the memory from 512mb(2x256) to 2Gb (2x1Gb). My question lies in what kind of memory i can use.

Here are some of the details straight from Gateway:

Memory Size 256 MB
Memory Type JEDEC 200-pin DDR-SODIMM
Package 200-pin SODIMM, 1.27-inch height
Speed 533 MHz
Supply Voltage 2.5 V
Parity Support No parity bit supported

I was wondering if it would be possible to upgrade my ram to ddr2-sodimm. REason being is because i found a cheaper stick of ddr2 1gb memory on newegg. Also, it also says that the memory is dual channel. If i order two of the same models of memory, would that be ok? Please help me, i'm quite confused.

Oh, by the way, here is the link to the memory that i am currently looking at:

Answer:Memory upgrade question in Gateway Laptop

ddr2? naw, you've got to stick with whatever your laptop supports. oem builds are generally picky about thier ram timings, so try and puirchase ram with identical timings. i advise running cpu-z to check your timings.

Hello.  I need some help with a memory question.  I just purchased an HP ProBook 470 G3 with Windows 7 Pro (64-bit).  I'm installing an SSD and want to upgrade the memory as well-- it only came with ONE 8GB stick.   The first question is more like a request for confirmation-- because the memory that's installed is NOT what is listed in any of the specs or the Service & Maintenance Guide.  Those all list it as: PC3L-12800, 1600 MHz, DDR3L.  But the memory stick itself is labeled DDR4.  I also verified it with CUPZ and it's shown as DDR4 as well (DDR4-2400).  My guess is they upgraded the laptop, but not the manuals. Here are some links I found with information on the hynix stick that's installed:,hma81gs6afr8n-uh,hynix.htm Question #2 (this one IS actually a question):  CPUZ lists the stick as SINGLE channel.  So can I purchase anohter 8GB stick and install it, or would it require replacing BOTH to upgrade to 16GB (2 x 8GB)? Then if I look for a SINGLE stick, will it be SINGLE channel?  I looked for some on Newegg, but they don't seem to list whether it's single or dual channel.  If it sold as a single stick, can I assume it's SINGLE channel?  They also have what seems to be TWO different 8GB DDR4-2400 Crucial stick, but with a wide gap in their pricing ($63.99 vs $86.99). &nb... Answer:ProBook 470 G3 laptop memory upgrade question

As long as you get a second 8 gig stick of DDR4-2400 RAM and install it you will have 16 gigs and it will be dual channel. Any single stick of memory will be single channel because it is in one channel. A second stick of the same memory (or with all the same characteristics-speed density latency)-will allow dual channel memory operation as long as the motherboard supports it which your does. I have a Zbook 15 G3 which is very similar. Came with a single 8 gig of DDR4-2133. I went to Frys and bought what they had on hand for an 8 gig DDR4-2133 chip, installed it and mine is running in dual channel mode.  I am also not seeing any difference between the $64 memory and the $87 memory other than price. You can install either one of those as they have the same salient specs as the Hynix installed in your laptop now.  Good luck

Hi, I'm looking to upgrade the memory of my Clevo P650RE6 from 8Gb to 18Gb.

Slot 'ChannelA-DIMM1' is Empty
Slot 'ChannelB-DIMM0' is Empty
Slot 'ChannelB-DIMM1' is Empty

I have successfully added new memory cards to other pc/laptops, no problem.
I bought a refurbished hp nc6400 for my husband. It came with WinXP and I downloaded OpenOffice, Adobe and Norton 360. I ordered 4G memory, opened and installed and the computer will turn on, but no harddrive. Black screen and I had to remove the battery to shut down.

I reversed the process and still the same, no response. I e-mailed the company, since I only had it 11 days. They will probably refund.

Also, since I can't remove anything from the hard drive, should I change all my passwords, etc.?

What happened? Any ideas?

I had a desktop and the power supply died within 4 days. I returned the computer.
Then I went to all my sites and changed all the passwords just on the off chance someone would get to my info on the hard drive. I did not want to open the computer up, remove the hard drive and wipe it because I might then be accused of breaking the computer.

Hi Tiffy

As far as I know max memory for your unit is 160 Mb. You can buy second memory module with 64 MB. Part number is PA2044U. Check this part number with Google option and you will find many vendors where it can be order.

You can also buy this RAM module:
PA2043U 32MB
PA2054U-MS 128MB

Good luck!

Hello all,
I have a Compaq Armada M700 laptop that I want to add memory to. I have checked out compaqs site (now part of HP) and all I can find out is SDRAM memory modules PC-100 (100mhz) in 128mb or 256mb for the specs. Is there any other specs I should be made aware of or if I just get any SDRAM PC-100 should work? The laptop works great and I certainly don't want to blow it by using the wrong spec RAM.

Any info is GREATLY apprecated.

Make sure you get laptop and not desktop as they differ in size. Another thing I just learned when upgrading some laptops was to update the bios too. The upgrade of ram was causing the devices to overheat....
