Preferred Solution: 256 bit colour in Win xp

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: 256 bit colour in Win xp

If it is a program, you can right click on it, and go into compatability, and check the box that says run in 256 colours

Can anyone suggest a way to get the Microsoft Solitaire Collection colours back. Yesterday, all colour went and the cards just showed in yellow on a black ground. Asked Microsoft, but no help given. Am I the only person with this problem, or has someone
solved it?
Updated drivers for  Nvidia Graphics card.  Reset the Collection under 'Features' in Settings.
Nothing works yet.  Any ideas, anybody?

Hi there gurus.
My pc doesn?t show certain colour objects in Publisher 2007 and some on-line sites. Overall, the screen colour is very good. I know the fault is localised, because when I switch to Print Preview in Publisher it looks fine and I can see all the object colours. (I only lose the colour with objects, not text)
Also, when I send a copy of a Publisher page to my partner who is on the same PC, it looks fine on her screen.
I?ve tried going to Install/uninstall programs and run the Repair, but to no avail. The guys in my computer shop are clueless without seeing it. Anyone who can help solve this for me is a gem.
Cheers!
David

What's cheaper: colour laser with genuine ink or colour inkjet with compatible inks?

I'm happy to invest in buying a colour laser: but I can't find any refills for lasers
At least they don't seem to be widely available

So, my choice is: colour laser + genuine inks or colour inkjet + compatible inks

From what I know, side by side: laser's are cheaper
But, how about when compared to genuine laser ink to compatible colour inkjet inks?

I should stress that for me needs, I am not overly concerned if using compatibles doesn't give me perfect results - just close as possible is fine for me

What's more important probably is speed of print at highest quality

ANY feedback would be great

Thanks

Answer:What's cheaper: colour laser with genuine ink or colour inkjet with ink compatibles?

Finding Compatible Remanufactured Color Toner cartridges can be dicey. While they may be available, the problem may end up being the company tht does the remanufaturing. It is also dependant upon the model printer you get. I have noticed that the savings on my Black Canon X-25 toner cartridge is only about $12 lower than the cost of a Factory original cartridge. There are sites that I would save up to $30 per cartridge, but part of this is eaten up by the shipping charges. For my toner cartridge, I am about 1/2 mile from the store that does nothing but ink and toner refill services, and their garauntee thier cartridges 100%. In 3 years I have only had to return one cartridge and it was an HP #17 Color cartridge.

Now per page printing cost on a laser is much cheaper than on an inkjet. Though the printer cost itself is usually much higher for a Laser. Personally I use the laser much more than than my Inkjet, but I do use the inkjet for all color printing. But then 95% of my printing is monochrome text.

Hi, I'm using the Aerolite theme with Aeroglass, and want a consistent colour for the borders. So I set accent colour from background 'off' and choose the colour. Fine so far.

Now that's ok if I log off and on.

But if I sleep or hibernate (not personally ) and then resume, the colour and setting are lost.

I noticed that on resuming, the border colour is present until the 'Please wait' screen appears, after which these settings are lost.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Hello.

I seriously need help with my PC. I've reinstalled Windows XP and Service Pack 2, and I can't chnge the Screen resolution or the colour quality. It sucks. The resolution stays at 800x600, the lowest possible, and the colour quality stays at 8 bit. I think I have a ATI 128 MB DDR Radeon 9800 Pro. I dunno whether thats a driver or what. And I also don't know my graphics card, or whether that will help at all.

I would swear at this point but I'm too young.

Oh but I'll use this instead

Has anyone got any help for me that I can understand. I'm 14 but I still can understand most computer talk.

Anyway thanks very much for reading all this crap and please try not to point out all my spelling mistakes.

Alex Jordan

Answer:[resolved]Help with resolution and colour and colour quality??.. anyone??

Heya, welcome to the forums

Okay, it has to do with your drivers. Go to ATI's website and find your driver.

Here's the link

http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/xp/radeonx-xp.html

Please download and install both the Control Center as well as the Display driver. Then restart your computer and try to change the resolution.

Cheers!

Help please...I do cartoons in Photoshop for magazines...how can I adjust my screen, so that what I see on the screen will match what is printed in my client's magazine? Thanks.click here

Answer:Screen colour to match magazine colour?

I found the easiest way to achieve this was to print the picture and then adjust my screen to match. Once you've adjusted the screen all future pictures which look too light or dark, on screen, can be adjusted to suit within your software.

Hi Allhope someone more knowledgable can advise - I recently purchased a Lexmark x500n multifunction colour laser printer - I had a big black print job to do excel and word - 2000 pages - i was shocked to see that - ok the black starter cartridge of 2500 pages was nearly empty- fair enough - but all three colour cartridges (1500 page size) were nearly all empty too - I hadn't done any colour printing but when i contacted the manuf they advised that the printer uses colour also to print black!! - it's getting returned to them - but do do all colour lasers do this - obviously this quadruples the costs of printing and has put my costing out of the window!! - any advice would be great - it's a network colour printer, with copier and scanner that I need - a fax would be great but not essential.thanks in advanceTrifly

Answer:COLOUR LASER - PRINTING BLACK USING COLOUR!!

That would pee me off no end. How in God's name can it use colour to create black when there's a black cartridge in there? A cheapo mono laser seems to be your ideal tool. I know nothing about colour laser printers, but is there an option anywhere in the settings to print using only the black cartridge? Does the printer still work if you take out the colour cartridge while printing only black text documents?

Hello friends,
I was just thinking that wouldn't it be great if we get more color options to change the background color on our Windows Phone devices than just black or white as we get on Windows 8.1 devices to customize background color along with tile colour?

Hi There,

I have a dell inspiron 6000 with mobile intel chipset 9145. I am trying to play TV out, but whenever i attach it to the TV - i am only getting black and white. I have tried changing the colour adminstration within properties to kodakdc and srgb colour space profile but i am still having the same problems.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks

Answer:Tv out Has No Colour

It could be a PAL/NTSC setting somewhere. Some laptops have a BIOS setting for TVout. If it's set for NTSC and the TV is set for PAL, or vice versa, you will get video issues. I had a an old DVD player that was 'stuck' on NTSC only. When I tried to play a PAL movie in it, it would play in black and white. Check the back of the TV or wherever all the control switches are (or just read the manual). Check the PC BIOS and the TVout settings if using separate video hardware/software....

Good luck!

I like using "windguru" for forecasting the weather. Based in the Czech Republic, they're usually spot on which is more than I can say for the local effort.

Until recently I used Netscape 7.2 and subsequent to that Opera vers 11. These both colour coded the wind speeds and gusts and the expected temperatures; you know ranging from blue for cold to red for hot. For various reasons I have had to make use of IE-8. I can't get anything in colour. Temperatures and wind speeds are just black numerals on a white background. I've searched through IE's options but can't find any tweak to resolve this. The URL is www.windguru.cz and I'm running XP home. Can anyone help?

Hi,

I know some basic stuff about computers, but I don't know how to fix this problem.

I have Windows XP. Firstly, the computer started running slower than usual for a while (a few weeks), then one day when I started the computer up, a screen came up in the DOS bit at the start asking me what mode I wanted to start in as there was a problem. I selected the option (and Im paraphrasing here) 'The last good configuration' as it seemed best. From then on, the colour went to 4 bit, and an 800x600 resolution. I can't change these settings as I normally would, as there are no other options available. I can use the computer fairly normally, except the awful colour and res. However, if the screensaver comes on, and I re-activate the screen, it will be totally messed up - the edges puffed out like a pincushion setting, black and white, lines travelling down the screen and flickering, sometimes going totally black then coming back again.

My housemate started the computer up and somehow got the original DOS screen back asking which mode to start in - he selected 'safe mode' and the colour was then good - except the internet then wouldn't connect. (I have broadband so it's normally automatic - I don't know how to connect it manually)

This is my brother's computer, so I don't know a lot about it - programs and so on - he's un-contactable at the moment and will be for a couple of months... I'd greatly appreciate any he... Read more

Hey guys.

This is my second time with this issue and I'd like some help with it. Been looking online and I can't find anything.

Basically, I'm using my computer:

Windows 7 Home Edition x64 bit
i7-860 quad core 2.8Ghz
6gb ram
Nvidia Gts 240 (soon to be replaced)

And at seemingly random times, the taskbar along the bottom of the page which is normally transparents turns a sort of bright blue/white colour along with the tab bar at the top of whatever I'm using at the time, usually an internet browser. When this happens I can then hear the fans inside my machine spinning up, I open up RealTemp and the temperature shoots up. The first time it did it It went from around 20 to I think 100 because RealTemp marked one of my cores as "logged" today when it did it the max it got to was about 60. But I wasn't doing anything such as playing a game, I had Skype, Opera and maybe Steam open all at the same time and it got to about 60 degrees in a matter of seconds, then after staying there for about half a minute came back down to around 20.

Any ideas?

I thought it might of been the heat sink, but it seems to be securely fasted. I bought some quality thermal paste and I plan to remove the paste that is currently on my CPU and replace it with this. Is there anything else anyone could reccomend?

Question: colour printer

Hi
I just printed out a colour photo using the HP PSC2410. I discovered that if a drop of water falls on it, it wipes away the color off the picture, in other waords it is a temporary print. is there any way i could make the prints permananet or am i using the wrong paper(HP glossy print) or am i using some temporary ink(HP supplied as well).

Answer:colour printer

quite common. your printing with ink...most ink will rub if you drop water on it. write on a peice of paper and it will do the same. However, on most photo quality paper, the ink pretty much stays on there if water gets on there. If you want to print out a photo and make sure nothing wrecks it, you can buy stuff to coat them. Or you could just shove it in an album/frame so no water will ever get on it

Hi all.
I've been having some problems playing some of my WMV files. When I try watching them the colours are all messed up. Most of the screen is bright green with the rest of the objects appearing in various other bright primary colours. It doesn't matter which of my players I use including VLC.
Some of my vids are ok and I can get the problem ones to work if I re-encode them with WMM but it also happens when I try to watch streamed WMV's including HD and these I can't re-encode.
I've downloaded K-lite codec pack but I'm not too sure which of the codecs to use and I've read that just installing all of them can cause more problems than they solve.
Thanks in advance guys.

Question: Colour Issue

Has anyone had an issue with the colour of a second monitor?

For some reason the colours are really off, the monitor on the left has a yellow tint on certain programs but not everything

I've tried the latest NVidia drivers, resetting the TFT and updating the TFT drivers but no joys, it was fine in Windows 7

Screenshot:

Cheers

Answer:Colour Issue

REMOVE the ICC profile for the monitor on the left. (Advanced display settings, Color Management Tab)

It was probably installed by default with the video driver or something. Unless you create one yourself using calibration tools, it's generally best to just remove it completely.

Another potential issue... If you you have a monitor connected via HDMI, it will look very strange on the desktop (lower contrast, extremely bright colors) and I have found no way to really fix it. Always prefer the DVI or display port connectors instead.

I have tried to print colour photos on photo paper using a HP5652 I get a yellow picture. Yet if I use plain paper I get a proper picture. I am using a photo ink cartridge as well as the colour cartridge. Any suggestions I have tried in vain using different settings and photo paper.

Answer:colour printing

From what you describe it could be the paper'setting on the printer or some close to it.If you visualize it for one moent youet set up the printer to print either on plain paper or photo paper- you do dont you?If you dont investigate the printer set up protocols.Assuming you do- then as far as the printer is concerned, and assuming all colours are workingas you infer they are[good picture on plain paper]then it would not matter too much if you fed the print a shredded wheat packet- it would not affect ink delivery.By the by the best mode for colour photos, not with standing the paper type or brand - Ink Jet Transparancy - it is also very economical with the ink.

Question: Windows 8.1 colour

Hello Everybody, i recently had a issue with the colour of my taskbar. I want to change mine but it said "there was a problem loading preset colour. please help
thanks.

Answer:Windows 8.1 colour

Hi, Welcome to Eight forums.

I would suggest to create a new account and try if the issue is solved. Here's how you can do that. User Account - Add a New User in Windows 8

If new user account fixes this, then you can check for any third party app that can cause this issue in your main profile.
You can start Windows by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This kind of startup is known as a "Clean Boot." A Clean Boot helps eliminate software conflicts. Here's how to perform Clean boot.

Run a system file checker scan and check if that helps. Refer the following steps to run SFC scan.

My monitor will not show red.It stopped once before;went back to normal for one day;then stopped again. It is a Toshiba TekBright 710 V.If I push the bottom "select" button; then one bar is PINK.If I push the extreme left button;the screen curls, momentarily showing all colours--including red.But in all ordinary programmes, there is no red hues at all.Seagate computer.windows xp professional edition.

Answer:WHO UNDERSTANDS COLOUR ?

This sounds like a poor connection either with the cabling to the monitor or within the monitor itself.Check that the cables to the monitor (both ends) are fully pushed home. If that doesn't fix it then it is probably inside the monitor and there is not much you can do yourself - a trip to a repair shop.Just as a final check, though. Are you able to try another monitor?

For a while now ive noticed that my games don't appear to be running in 32 bit colour mode. I notice in particular when a texture uses a range of shades from a single colour (e.g. dark blue to light blue), where you can see a 'banding' effect and doesn't look smooth as it should.

I've tried switching between 16 and 32bit colour and it doesnt appear to make any difference in games (using the game setup menus), they both look exactly the same. I've tried doing the same on my desktop (Windows), and you can clearly see a difference between the 2 colour ranges. So I don't seem to have any problems in 2D enviroments, just 3D (games in this case).

I've looked through the settings in the graphics card setup (Anti aliasing/texture filtering options etc), and I cant see anything that would related to this problem, i.e no colour mode options.

I've tried running games in different resolutions and updating my graphics card drivers, but it doesn't seem to make any difference.

I really have no idea what to do next.

Any help would be great.

Thanks

I have an older PC which I Use only for the word processor but for some reason the monitor comes up purple on boot up, but all the icons etc are present. If I reapeat starting up a couple of times it eventually clears. Have I got a fault on the system or is the monitor on it,s way out

Answer:Colour of Monitor

Could be either the monitor or the video controller. It does sound like a heat related fault with some component just at the edge of tolerance.......Only guessing, but I don't think it is motherboard etc, unless the video card is an integral part.

Hello, When i take digital photos of lets say a white building it appears exactly right on the screen, however when i print using my Epson Stylus C60 with fresh cartridges installed(and the same with the old ones)the white building is more of a greyish/purpleish/pinkish colour. This fault is there with all colours but is most apparant with white. any advise would be greatly recieved. Thank you. Mike

Answer:Colour representation

What program are you using when printing your digital prints? When printing photo's etc from other sources do they differ as-well. The type of paper you are using can greatly effect the colour output, I found using 180 photo paper from click here improved colour output, the ilford paper available from pc world was pretty good to. You may need to set-up your monitor and the colour profile for your printer. Most photo programs have a gamma set-up program to adjust your monitor correctly, have a look at click here and click here to check your monitor.Your printer may then need setting up to match the profile of the monitor. I am using an Epson C70 and I had to set my profile as RGB colour scale. You will find this setting in printer properties in colour management. You could also go into the custom advanced settings of the main Epson print page and adjust the levels of brightness/contrast or the ink levels.

Do you have the TV output from the graphics card set to the correct TV system (PAL or NTSC or even SECAM)?Normal S-video does have four only connectors, at least all those I've been associated with.

my ' KODAK ESP310 AiO' printer only printing blue/yellow.not picking up red. I have replaced cartridge Kodak 30CL. still no red!

Answer:colour red not printing

The print head nozzle for Red is probably plugged up. Are you using genuine Kodak ink? Do you use the printer regularly? That means every few days.Try running the cleaning process a couple of times. Looks like the printhead is removable. If the above doesn't work then remove the printhead and run it under hot water in the kitchen sink. You will see the different color ink come out by moving the water stream. Rubbing alcohol can also be useful to clean the bottom of the printhead. Use Q-tips. Question: svideo no colour

i connected my laptop to tv. i have a s video connector and i connected to a scart wich in turns connect to the tv but i have no colour and the qualitiy is poor, i have to press the av button on the tv remote to see a picture, but when i connect the xbox to the scart of the tvand switch it on it automatically switches aux, and it has colour. is it because i press the av button on the tv remote, because there is no aux botton.

Answer:svideo no colour

a computer graphics card will not auto change to the av channel on your tv like dvd players and sky digiboxes would etc because its connected via an adapter lead that just converts the signal from s-video to composite and in turn the scart adapter you are using just carries that composite signal which is not capable of telling the tv to change to the av channel as a proper scart would.you just have to change it yourself.as for the black and white picture.if the disc you are playing is a jap or us ntsc disc then it will be black and white if your tv does not support ntsc playback.most tvs do support ntsc but only if its connected to the av 1 scart on the tv set(if you have more than 1 on your tv then av1 will be the ntsc compatable socket)check control panel/display settings/advanced for a tv out set up menu and set it up for pal uk.

Answer:colour problems

Do not re-install W98 yet.The probability is that you have somehow "lost" the display drivers.Try device manager in Control Panel > System.........click on the Display adapter, and properties, and then select driver and update driver. At this point you should be able to install your video card driver over again.

Question: colour problems

I run a Windows 98 SE computer with 10GB hard disc and 192 MB RAM. Recently, I had a bad time installing the Asus External CD-RW. I have already uninstalled then re-installed it and did manage to copy my latest pictures. They appeared on the CD as I expected but then, each time I tried to do anything with them the computer grumbled and crashed or froze. I persevered over several days and did get something going (using the CD drive, chiefly) but then everything went haywire and I couldn?t open any of them. Finally, all the icons changed one at a time and I watched as they changed again and 3 letters appeared on the icons, one by one. I can?t recall the letters but they did indicate that they were not going to be opened by me or anyone else now or ever! What have I done wrong? The computer was not at all happy and made complaining noises, as did I. I tried again this morning and although I was able to put them on the screen after a lot of effort, the computer didn?t like it. I tried other CDs and they were OK. So I?ve wiped the disc. Maybe it?s a duff disc. Now there are several things wrong with the computer; the colours are not right. The first thing that came up when I clicked OE was a blue notice (before the OE and Dialup window appeared.) Now it?s white and the colours in photos are weird. I?ve rebooted a couple of times and there?s no change. I?ve checked the display and it shows 256 colours. Is there anything I can do to rectify it?Any suggestions will be welcome.Silver... Read more

Answer:colour problems

You don't mention the software that you used to try to work on your images, and it would help to know that.Your display settings have certainly gone AWOL, and the first thing to do is to reset them. As you may know, you do that by right-clicking on your desktop and selecting 'properties' from the menu that appears. Click on the 'settings' tab (I'm working blind here, because I'm running WindowsXP) or whatever in Win98 that shows you two sliders - one with the resolution, and one with the colour bit depth. Move the resolution slider until it reads 1024x768, and then see if you can move the colour bit setting until it shows '16 bit'.If that works you should now be seeing a better display. If it doesn't work you may have a corrupted or missing graphics card driver, or monitor driver, or both, and we'll deal with that if it crops up.I'm puzzled - and a tad concerned - over these 'complaining noises' that you say your machine is making. Can you describe them in greater detail, and tell us precisely at what point in the proceedings they happen?

Answer:Sudden colour changes

Open Control Panel and check to see if there an exclamation mark agains your graphics card (Display Adaptor). If there is, one possible cause could be that the card needs new drivers. To do this go to Start/Control Panel/System/Hardware (tab)/ Device Manager.

Hi there - I'm trying to print out a document using colour separation in Publisher and or Serif Pageplus...I can print in colour normally, but when I try to print to Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black all I get is black and white printouts of varying magnitide. Only the composite looks and prints out in colour. Is this what I should be expecting?

Answer:Colour Separation (again)

What you are getting are the instructions for colour separation printing machines - as used by larger scale commercial printers. These printers operate by inking the sheet in three (or four) separate processes each process using a different colour - CYM(K). Traditionally, these separations were for preparing silk screens and there was no requirement for colour information within the file. So, if you are trying to print these separations on a normal SOHO printer, there is no instruction in the files for them to be printed in any other colour than black. On a computer controlled colour spearation printer, the instruction for the separation print normally readable only with specific software.Do you have a good reason to print in colour separation? If not, I would leave well alone because without appropriate equipment i.e. at least a colour separation printer, you could end up in a real mess and very confused.

Question: colour quality

When I download still images from my camcorder on to my computer, the colours look very dull and lifeless-very different from how they look on the LCD screen of the camcorder. Is there any software that could improve image quality?

Thanks-this is a great site.

Answer:colour quality

If you just want to pep up the image a little, Irfanview is simple: www.irfanview.com It is primarily a viewer, but it has some tools for tweaking an image.

This is freeware that will do a better job: http://www.freewarefiles.com/programs.php?ProgramID=1012&categoryid=3&subcategoryid=36 It is a lite version if their shareware program, which is excellent for the price. The freeware has the things you need like histogram and saturation that Irfanview lacks. You can download the manual for the full version at their site.

If you plan on spending the time to really learn photo editing and donít want to spend any money on a program, Gimp is now available for Windows. It isnít easy to learn, but has the capabilities of a good intermediate graphics editor: http://www.gimp.org/~tml/gimp/win32/downloads.html

These are also free and will do a nice job:
http://www.ab.wakwak.com/~knight/
http://www.serif.com/photoplus5/index.asp

If you want to buy an intermediate image editor, Uleadís PhotoImpact and Jasic Paint Shop Pro are both excellent. From the reviews Iíve read PhotoImpact is easier to learn and at least as full featured compared to Paint Shop Pro. They both have 30 day free trials if you want to try them:
PhotoImpact: http://www.ulead.com/pi/trial.htm
PSP: http://www.jasc.com/download_4.asp

Dear all, After having Installed a New Hard Drive and Re-Installed Windows 98 last night with help from some kind people on here. I now basically have a problem being that the Display only shows 2 or 16 Colours and i need to get True Colour 24-Bit.I've Installed Belarc Advisor and it just says Standard PCI Graphics Adaptor so i need to find the proper Driver for this. I'm sure this is a problem i had before and eventually found one and was told to add a command line in Sysedit (i think that's what it was anyway), so any help n this problem would be much appreciated. Many ThanksAndy

Answer:How do i get True 24-bit Colour

You need to update your drivers, if you have the installation disk for your graphics card then pop it into the drive and run it. If you have on-board graphics the drivers will be on the m/b disk if you have none of the above you will have to find out what graphics card you have and download the drivers from the internet.

This looks similar to a problem that Internet Explorer 8 can have so try the fix for that which is to change the Desktop Theme then change it back again.

If that works then do Start > Run type SERVICES.MSC press Enter and right-click the Themes service > Properties then change the Startup type to Manual.

Adjust your monitor first using a program like click here then try again. You may have to alter the printer settings for colour as well. The type of paper you print on and the ink will also make a difference. You will never get a perfect match as one is reflected and the other transmitted colour.

A bit of a strange request, but after searching everywhere that I can think of for hours, I can't seem to find a solution.

I am a teacher, and several of my pupils have a problem reading anything on a white background. I can often change the colour of backgrounds, but there are certain applications where it's not possible.

So, rather than ask how to remove a colour cast from my monitor, I'd like to be able to overlay a blue or pink colour cast on my entire monitor - can anybody tell me about any software which has this functionality? I'd like it to be configurable and easily 'turn off and onable.'

Alternatively - any easy to use colour profile management tools for windows xp? The microsoft color management control panel plugin doesn't seem to make it possible to achieve what I want.

Many thanks,
Mike
