I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

This started around the 1st of September. It seems like the title/headline fonts across all browsers, Firefox, IE and Chrome, has changed to an open face style font. I'm note sure what font it is. There was a windows update KB 2993651 that corresponded to my issue. I did a system restore to a point previous to this update and the problem went away.

Today the problem returned. There have been no updates or changes made to my system to make the fonts revert back to an open face style. Since it's across all browsers I think it has to be a windows issue and not browser related.

I did try changing the default fonts in google but it did not help. I also tried restoring the default font in the windows control panel, no help in the fact that the restore system font button grayed out and did'nt do anything.

I ran a full virus scan and no virus' were detected. I am not sure how to solve this

See attached image.

Thank you for your help

Answer:Title fonts in all web browsers viewing as open face fonts error

Hi,

Have you added/installed any fonts?
If you have try removing them and see if the issue goes away, i had this issue a while a go and it was a font i had installed.

c:\windows\fonts

It would be worth checking that location and sorting by date modified, is there anything new at the top/recent?

Jamie

I have quite a few additional fonts I no longer want, but I dont seem to be able to list them according to installation date and uninstall them in one action. Is there an easy to restore fonts back to default in windows vista? thanks

Answer:how to restore windows fonts back to default and delete user installed fonts in one action?

thanks - this looks like it will do the job, but from its website it states that its for 2k/xp. Does anyone know if xp and vista use exactly the same font collection, or if vistas own default fonts are protected-should I worry incase this program deletes needed fonts, and on another bootup I can no longer read certain areas of windows? I needed to keep windows own installed font folder as small as possible - I wish I could keep all unneeded fonts in a seperate folder (fontfrenzy states it can do this), but also be able to auto install them from that location, when any program requested missing fonts, but I believe I may have to find more than one utility thats compatible with each program in use, usually adobe in my case-but thats another issue :)

I am running Win 7 Pro 64-bit with 24GB memory and lots of disk with a Dual Core i7 930. When I go to Control Panel->All Control Panel Items->Fonts I see file icons, most of which have examples of the fonts they represent. The hidden fonts are grayed out. But I have a significant number of fonts that display the same preview on the file icon that is nothing like what the font looks like. Is this a known issue? Is there a fix?

TIA,

Recently I installed two fonts onto computer for Typography, and upon doing so the fonts changed on Google Chrome and Firefox to this bold font. It appears to be the default font as before, just in bold now.

I've tried checking the browsers font settings, and they're at the settings they were before this new bold text started showing up.

Anyone with any idea on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated.

My wife is writing a book and has handwritten several hundred A4 sheets. The cost for professionally taking her text and typing it is really very expensive.I would like to know if there is a programme I can buy that will scan the handwriting and subsequently convert to a Word Document.I suspect she might have to "teach" the programme her style, as per PDAs.Any advice will be greatly appreciated.Thanks.

Answer:handwriting to text

Far more efficient is speech to text. The software for this is much more advanced than handwriting to text and, with only about 20 minutes training your computer, you can achieve better than 90% accuracy.Look up speech to text in Google for details of the software available. Dragon is claimed to be very good.If your wife gets good at this, she will have no need to do the writing stage, just speak direct to the computer.

Hi peoples

I was wondering if anyone out there could help me decipher handwriting on an old death certiificate? (I zipped it up for size)

I am researching the individual shown first on this document - Bridget Layden

I am having a hard time with two items on this scanned image
1. the first name of the father
2. the cause of death; the word to the left of "dropsy"

If i could figure out what the letters are on the cause of death, I think I could guess at the father's first name as the first letter appears to be the same.
It looks like the first letter is also in the cemetary, but I can't seem to Google-match that location.

Any takers out there?

Question: Handwriting font

I have Windows XP, Home Edition, SP2, and IE6, SP2.

I have been wanting to install a font that I got off the Web. It is called Font dragonfly.zip. I have been wanting a handwriting font, which I do not have, and this seemed the closest.

On your site, I read this: To install the fonts you go into the font folder in the control panel and click 'file' - there you will see 'install new font'. Click it and in the box that opens navigate to where the fonts you want to install are. You can high-light all of them and click install

But when I go into the Control Panel, and select Fonts, there is not a folder, it just lists the fonts from A to Z. Lucinda used to have a nice handwriting font. But I cannot find it, except for a price. Anyway, how would I get the Fntdragonfly.zip into the list of fonts listed in the Fonts on the Control Panel.

I read on here somewhere that Nero’s file Explorer solved their problem. I went to the website, and they want $80. No thank you.

Thanks

Greetings all! I am looking into using my Yoga 2 Pro as a notepad in the field with MS One Note.  I looked through the forums to see if anyone has reported back any thing like this and really didn't find the info I was looking for. Firstly, the stylus.  I dont want to draw with a crayon.  Wacom has stated via tech support email that their "Bamboo Feel" stylus will work for the Lenovo ThinkPad 2, anyone try it on the Yoga Pro 2?  If not, what have you tried that you liked? (dont really need a list of bad styluses) Second, for thoes of you who have written on your yoga.  How do you deal with "palm rejection"  or resting your hand on the screen?  Wacom seemed to indicate there were ways around this problem. Thirdly,  One Note.  It seems like it will do the trick.  Anyone else use it or have somthing better that they really like? Thank you all in advance for any feedback.  I hope to be scribbling away soon.  With the lack of stores in my area I have to mail order everything.  So making a bad purchase takes a while to rectify. Cheers!

Answer:Handwriting with the Yoga 2 Pro

Stylus: http://www.amazon.com/DAGI-Capacitive-Motorola-BlackBerry-PlayBook/dp/B005O2YQFY/ref=sr_1_5?s=electr... I place a microfiber cloth on the screen/under my palm, to avoid palm detection (and to clean the screen as I write ). The ThinkPad has a digitizer, the ideapad version is touch capacitive. So, I would not get the above stylus. But in all honesty, I did not even google the aforementioned stylus. I use OneNote all the time. I am a medical student and type my notes with the occasional histological drawings and graphs. I cannot imagine anything to be better than OneNote. I live off OneNote. Frankly, it is the only thing that is keeping me away from Apple computers.

Is it possible to add a list of words to the tablet input panel (TIP) handwriting recognition dictionary? For example, is there a way to put the words from the dictionary that MS office uses (custom.dic) into the TIP dictionary?
I ask because I'm a student and the TIP doesn't recognize a lot of the specialized terms I use and I don't want to have to add them manually one at a time.

Thanks,
Ari

Answer:Add to handwriting dictionary?

Hello adoucette,

Welcome to Seven Forums.

You can add to the recognition. On the input panel, click on tools/personalize handwriting recognition. I haven't played with this yet, but I believe this is only for word or character recognition. Spelling, like the office dictionary does, would still be done by whatever program you paste the handwriting into.

Hope this helps.

I've just got a tablet from ebay with xp tablet edition 2005 on it. I've never owned a tablet before, so know very little about problem solving on one. I'm having, a problem with the pen input, specifically I can bring up the writing pad and use the pen on it, but when I hit insert, nothing happens. The writing pad clears but nothing appears in the text box.

I've tried a third party inking panel called Inker (from Atozed software) to check that the recognition engine is working (if there is such a thing), which it is. The only problem is that this third party tool is very laggy and doesn't integrate with windows as well.

lf anyone has some experience with tablets and can give me some tips, I would be so grateful. Even just some hints as to where I should look next.

Many thanks

I see other threads regarding the symptom of hanging while going into Control Panel -> Fonts, however they seem unresolved. I noticed this problem after troubleshooting Notepad hanging while going to fonts. I am running Windows Home Premium x64 on a C2D MacBook Pro (via BootCamp). My observations and troubleshooting are below. If anyone has any ideas on how to fix this, they would be greatly appreciated!

I do not get these symptoms under a newly created user account, however; I am not willing to take the solution of just using a newly created account as the only option. I am thinking there might be something in the HKCU key that might be broken.

Observations:
Format -> font... in Notepad is causing the application to hang, resulting in a jump in memory usage (anywhere between 60-150 MB), and pegs the CPU usage to 50% on each core. Prodding around, I notice Word sometimes hangs like Notepad when accessing the fonts drop-down bar. Wordpad doesn't seem to have this problem.

I notice this also happens when checking the Fonts folder via the control panel, but I can cancel the progress bar (which hangs near the end) and regain control of the window. When going to the Fonts folder, explorer pegs the CPU like Notepad, but consumes ALL REMAINING physical RAM (4 GB in total, typically using up the remainder ~2.5 GB).

Troubleshooting:

Someone on the High-logic forum click here needed to make an italic version of a Korean font a.s.a.p. I've never done it before, but it took just five minutes with Font Creator. Open the font, apply a glyph transformation (skew), identify the font as italic, rename, and save. This is the result of my test on a Public Domain Devanagari font. click hereOf course, this is not a true italic font, but for some Sans-serif fonts, an oblique is acceptable if it doesn't have a true italic variant. One can just apply the italic attribute in a Word-processor, but this can cause some problems when creating PDF files as faux fonts are not supported, so a proper italic version is much better. The glyph transformation can be fine-tuned too, to get just the slant that you want. One can also use it to make outline or bold variants.

First of all ChickenLoMein,

a hearty welcome to the Vista Forums. You'll find a varied and great bunch of Folks here, and there is always someone around to help you with any problems that you may have, so let's get started and say more about that later.

First of all, Files etc. for your 'Bamboo' Tablet are probably in two different Folders under Programs. For example;

Pen Tablet: This is your 'Bamboo' Tablet as you installed it;

Tablet PC......and this is what Vista has installed, ready for you to connect your 'Bamboo' Tablet. Handwriting Recognition is a part of this Folder, but more on that follows.

Before Handwriting Recognition can be activated, you must first of all, enter examples and detail specimens of your handwriting. You do this by following these steps;

Click on the 'Start' button... Read more

So, I bought myself a lovely Wacom Bamboo Tablet a while ago. I love it and all, but there's been a huge issue with Windows XP (Home Edition with SP3). I've tried a multitude of times to get my computer to allow handwriting recognition, but it can never work out. I've Google'd for a solution, but from what I've found, I need Microsoft Office since it comes with an "engine" to allow handwriting recognition. I really don't want to spend money on the Microsoft Office, since I'm happy with OpenOffice.org.

So here's my question! Is there any way to obtain this co-called "engine" without having to purchase Microsoft Office? I really would enjoy using my tablet as a full replacement for my mouse and keyboard.

Thanks for any help in advance :)!

I am having issues with the handwriting recognition with Windows XP/Office 2003. The problem is that the drawing pad application extension works fine, but "writing pad" and "write anywhere" do not. They are installed under the Language options.

When I use the language bar to select Drawing Pad it works fine and I can paste the result in a document. If however I select Writing Pad the drawing pad goes away but the Writing Pad never appears. Write Anywhere fails in a similar fashion.

On another computer configured the same, everything works fine.

I have tried various combinations of installing and removing the Language Bar and associated functions but nothing seems to get this working.

Can anybody help?

Thanks,

I am aware of the tablet PC input panel (tabtip.exe) in windows 7 where I can write with the mouse or a pen resulting in my handwriting being converted to text. I am then able to insert this text into a word document etc. I was wondering if there was any way to directly implement this feature into Word or OneNote so I don?t have to use the separate tabtip.exe program? Ideally I want to write directly in Word or OneNote with a computer pen, have my writing instantly converted to text and have the spelling automatically corrected - similar to when you are typing. Is this possible? How would I go about doing this? If it is not possible in office are there any other programs that offer this feature?

Suddenly I find my tablet not able to convert handwriting to text. Running XP Tablet 2005.  Windows Journal will take my handwritten notes, but not convert them to text.  Word and other programs will allow the Input Panel, but only give me the keyboard option; can't select either handwriting option on top left.  Pen seems to be working fine like a mouse, for drawing, and scribbling notes - just can't convert them.  This was working well previously. Not sure if it relates, but the button click for right-mouse-button options never did seem to work either.  Thanks for your advice.ps - under warranty and tried getting support through website (total Machiavellian labrynth that keeps dumping me off in dead ends or back to where I started) and through the phone (transferred to Atlanta Customer Svc, which is a disconnected number.  Tried again repeatedly with same result).  Very dissatisfied with customer service from Lenovo; hope this forum works...  /rantJohn

Answer:X61 tablet not converting handwriting

My x60  tablet is doing the same thng and I just posted the same question - i was told by lenovo "support" that I would need to do a complete recovery to put the tablet operating system back into working order which of course is a huge pain in the %$&: especially since I'm having trouble with creating a recovery disk - Perhaps someone can help us both on this with a better fix to the handwriting reognition to avoid a recovery

I use Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 on Windows XP. I have installed handwriting recognition and it is listed on my speech bar. I click on handwriting recognition and then the writing pad but no box pops up. When I click write anywhere, I see no visible change there either. There seems to be no solution to my problem on Microsoft's site or this one.

Good day ! I am looking at an orgaizational laptop upgrade, and am considering the T460s or Yoga 260. I believe they are very close to each other from a portability and performance standpoint, and I am really looking at whether I can start to use a pen in tablet mode to take notes more efficiently in meetings. Unfortunately, IT is fixed at Windows 7 at this point, and I understand that WRITEit is Windows 10 only. What are opinions on whether a convertable has any advantage over the T460s when running Windows 7 when it comes to note taking ? And, are there any decent handwriting programs for Windows 7 to use with the Yoga 260 on Windows 7, which woudl allow for handwriting conversion to digital ? e.g., into notepad, Word, etc.. I understand that Windows 10 is far more tablet-friendly, but I won't have the option to be running v10. Thanks !

Hi everyone, I thought I'd post a question and see if I can get some help. I'm having problems with my lovely new X61T when writing in tablet mode.  I have reinstalled the drivers, but that hasn't solved my problems. Basically, when I'm in tablet mode, I noticed that my cursor will fly off in different directions if the screen is rotated even the tiniest amount. If all pressure is removed from the screen, it takes a second, but the cursor stabalizes and becomes responsive to my pen again.Unfortunately, when I write on my tablet, my hand rests on the screen (just like I used to on my previous 2 tablets). This pressure seems enough to throw my cursor off just enough to interfere with my writing.I have a feeling this is an overactive response to the screen moving. Is there a way to shut it off?Any thoughts would be helpful! I won't be able to send my machine away for at least another few weeks, and even then, I don't really want to send it away unless i have to!All the best!Aaron

Answer:X61T - handwriting problems

certainly there is!  Although my cursor wasn't running crazy about I had the same bad experience when my hand was lying down on the screen while jotting. To disable it go to control panel->input devices then choose "touch" bookmark and untick the first field saying "use your finger as an input device" Hopefully this do the trick!

Hey. I am having issues with the handwriting recognition with Windows XP/Office 2003. The problem is that the drawing pad application extension works fine, but "writing pad" and "write anywhere" do not. They are installed under the Language options. When you open drawing pad there is a icon to switch between the different handwriting extension, but it looks like the standard dll icon. I tried reinstalling the handwriting extension through office with no help and there seems to be no forums for this problem yet. Need help. Thanks

-Tony

Answer:Problems with Handwriting Recognition

I have the exact same problem and have been unable to find any help.

I can open the Drawing Pad but the icon for Writing Pad is the same as a DLL icon and clicking it does nothing. If I select the Writing Pad or Write Anywhere options from the language bar nothing happens either.

Only the Drawing Pad seems to work?!?

I have a USB handwriting pad that I can use my finger or a pen or anything to write with. It behaves just like a mouse where if I move my pen left, it will move my mouse left. I want to turn this into a handwriting tablet using software compatible with Windows Vista. The pad has a handwriting function in XP, but there is no driver/software for Vista and the pad is detected as a tablet. Specifically, this is a Penpower Jr 5.0 Silver and I want to turn it into what i was meant to be -- a handwriting tablet in input text. Is there any software you guys would recommend?

Answer:Turn USB touchpad tablet into a handwriting pad?

As far as I know, you'll just have to wait for the Vista driver to come out. It would have to be a huge product out there for people to actually take the time to create some hacked drivers on their own for it.

So recently, I just noticed that I can no longer use any handwriting functions of Windows. And I mean, all of them.

Example, when I use windows live messenger, I clicked the handwriting icon because I Was gonna draw something for a contact obviously, put my mouse inside, and no dot appeared. Clicking yielded no results. And then I opened OneNote, and other various handwriting enabled applications through windows, and nothing would work. Paint and all that worked and stuff, but it was just these handwriting applications not working.

I can't seem to figure out what's the issue, I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Tablet PC optional components and such.

Plus, on the flipside, I can no longer use the snipping tool. It says "The Snipping Tool is not working on your computer right now." I think there's a correlation between that and my handwriting functions not working.

ANy suggestions?

Answer:Handwriting functions no longer working

Alright, so here's an update

I disabled UAC all the way through. It never comes up, so effectively, everything is administrator approved. My snipping tool and handwriting functions are working correctly.

What gives?

New Computer Software Can Copy Your Handwriting:

Researchers from UCL, University College London have developed a computer software program called, ?My Text in Your Handwriting,? which uses a person?s handwriting sample, accurately replicating it....

Published in ACM Transactions on Graphics and funded by the EPSRC, the machine-learning algorithm is built around glyphs ? which analyses handwriting, reproducing it in the style of the sample.

How ?My Text in Your Handwriting? Works

The researchers asked a user to write on four A4-sized sheets of paper. This was then scanned and interpreted by a computer and human moderator, examining the position of letters and the style words were written in.

The team then asked a group to decide if any envelopes (which were written by the computer software) were created by a computer. In 40 percent of cases, they were incorrect.

The software could help in detecting forged documents, improving identity theft and online security.

With all the positive benefits, some could also use this computer software to forge signatures and handwriting for criminal and personal gain..

Hello Joost

Can you please write what is the exact name of this software and how you start it? I am not familiar with Tablet PC OS but is this option is part of Toshiba preinstalled software you can download it on Toshiba download page under http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_drivers_bios.jsp but if this option is part of Microsoft tablet PC package that means you must use Dutch OS or check Microsoft support page for any kind of download or even update.

Can anyone tell me how to disable the handwriting tool (image attached) that pops up whenever I place a cursor in text?

For example, if I open Notepad, the tool appears just below the blinking cursor and doesn't go away until I start typing.

I understand that this tool allows the user to enter text using handwriting, which is something I do not want or need.

FYI this tool began popping up after I installed an Intuos tablet. Regardless of whether the tablet is turned on or off, the tool always follows my cursor around.

Is there an option to disable the tool so that it never pops up? If so, I can't find it.

Answer:Handwriting Input Panel keeps popping up

hi
I would start by looking in the settings for intous tablet.
if can't find anything their. then uninstall the tablet and see if it goes away. if it does then it might be something you cant get rid of when you have the tablet installed.

This is copied and pasted from another forum I joined and have yet to receive help on.

Hello everyone,

I purchased an Intuos3 tablet today [upgrading from a graphire], and was pleased to hear about the handwriting recognition features available on Vista. I am running 64-bit Home Premium [service pack 1, Aero], which should include all of the recognition software. The shortcuts are all present in the start menu, however, when I click to access them it tells me that the target cannot be found. I went to the target and sure enough, no .exe for any of the handwriting recognition programs. I never uninstalled them or used them.

The .EXEs that are missing are as follows [as in, the shortcut is in the start menu but the target does not exist]:

ShapeCollector.exe
PenTraining.exe
FlickLearningWizard.exe
Journal.exe [Windows journal]
The option to access the tablet input panel is altogether missing. No shortcut can be found to access it anywhere.

However, all of the pen flick navigation customization options are present, but, I cannot get the pen flicks to work, or the wizard to open through the settings menu.

Has anyone else heard of this happening? Is there any way to download the missing .EXEs? Why the heck would they even dissappear in the first place...? Would the programs be located somewhere else on the computer? It would be really nice to be able to use the handwriting features that should be on my computer.

If it is important, I am running on an HP Pavillion dv6000 [n... Read more

It doesn't matter if it's on the windows store, or just an app you can grab off google; I just want an app that has all the features of a standard diary app (password, design, date, signature, add pictures, etc), but that you can use a tablet with. Bonus points if you find something similar for Android. Triple bonus points if it's the same app and can sync.

Answer:Is there a Diary desktop app that uses stylus handwriting?

Bamboo Paper is a nice app. You can create multiple notebooks. It is optimized for Wacom stylus but works excellent as well with the Surface stylus. The downside: no password protection.YouNote is just as good but, again, no password protection.
I guess for everything more pro, OneNote is your go to app.

In win7 handwriting recognition - tablet input app - is really easy to use but I can't get it to work properly in win10.
It doesn't put the recognised words into the open document , also the app - TabTip (is this the right one?) seems to disappear off the screen, in win7 the tablet input app stays on top the whole time or u can minimise it to the side. what was the point of changing how this works? Anyone worked out how to use it yet?

update: I have got this working now. win10 recognised my bamboo wireless pad too.
TabTip is the correct app for handwriting recognition, you can set the icon to appear in the lower right of the taskbar for easy access. Try it with word pad.

Answer:X230 Tablet Windows 8 Pen Handwriting software

Hi, hmandi01

In Windows 8, writing-to-text transcription is normally a "keyboard," if you will, that you have to select. When you are on the desktop of your machine, is there a keyboard icon on the taskbar? If this is not visible in laptop mode, then see if it is there in tablet mode. If that icon is visible, click on it. This should bring up the touch keyboard. On this keyboard, the bottom-right key should be another keyboard icon. Select this icon and then select the pen option (third option.) This should change the touch keyboard into a transcription keyboard.

Best of luck. Let me know how it goes.
Adam

Write is a word processor for handwriting, available as freeware for Windows tablet PCs.  Write provides a unique new way to work with handwriting: ruled mode.  Ruled mode groups strokes into lines which can be edited nearly as easily as typed text in Microsoft Word.  When ruled mode is off, Write behaves like a typical vector drawing application.  Watch the demo video to get started: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=58bN5ht-MtUCurrently, Write has only been tested on a Thinkpad X61 tablet, where the Wacom pen tablet driver was necessary for pen input to work correctly.  If strokes look jagged, please make sure the Wacom driver is installed.Features:tools: draw, erase, select, insert space, and add bookmarkmove strokes and insert space in multiples of the page's rulingreflow handwritten text with the insert space toolcut, copy, paste selectionundo/redo jog dial for quickly moving through document historyinsert bookmarks and labeled with handwritinguser defined page size and rulingpages can grow automatically as you writehtml/svg document format viewable in Chrome and FirefoxDownload and more info: http://www.styluslabs.com/writebeta/Comments, bug reports, and feature requests can be posted to this thread; I look forward to hearing your thoughts!-- Matt
