Preferred Solution: java runtime uninstall help

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: java runtime uninstall help

Try removing java via Add/Remove programmes, then reinstall Java. The answer to the error message is in the message itself, windows installer may not work in safe mode?

A month or so a go I downloaded a programme (I think it was an mp3 programme) and it required Java Runtime Environment in order to work. So I downloaded that. I also seem to have Java Web Start as well.

About the same time I started to have a lot of problems with the Internet, and posted on the Web and Email forum. What happened was I could connect to the Internet but could not open any sites or my email. (Host not found and Server error messages). This was an intermitent thing and did not always happen.

A couple of days ago I could not access a certain site at all. It would start to load, then freeze and eventually crash. In desperation I just left it for a while and when I came back I found the site had loaded. It took 5 minutes. Then I noticed a strange icon in the systray. It was Java Console. I opened this and it contained a list of things which didn't mean a lot to me, for example: c:clear console window and f: finalize objects on finalization queue and many more. The icon is still in the systray, there is no exit facility. Even if I close the box, the icon is still in the systray.

I am now having many more crashes than I ever had before, more in the last few weeks than in the last year.

I can't help thinking these programmes have something to do with my current problems. I have done everything to make sure my computer is clean, defrag, spider, scandisk, antivirus, reinstalled modem, checked with ISP tech support, checked internet settings and there is no... Read more

I tried to install Yawcam and it called for Java.

Tried to install Java and the install hung.

Checked some threads and came back and tried a standalone install.

The standalone didn't seem very standalone, still seemed web based to me, but anyway...

The Install quickly informed me that the install was unsuccessful - like almost immediately, before even trying, like it had read that info from some log the previous install had left.

I tried to Uninstall. Doesn't show on Windows list of installed progs.

Tried Java Uninstall service or prog or whatever they call it

It wouldn't run because it apparently needs Java to run.

So here I am. Win7 with no Java on it. And Win7 I can't begin to try to put Java on it because of the Java on it.

Any ideas what I could do?

The machine is 64bit, i3, Asrock motherboard.

Does anyone know if downloading Java 2 Runtime Environment v1.3.1 will conflict with microsoft VM?

Thanks in advance to all replies,

Answer:Java 2 Runtime v1.3.1

No, you can have both installed.

Anyway, you can configure which one you want to use in Tools (IE), Internet Options, Advanced tab, and scroll about half way down.

I have both Java and Micro$$oft Virtual Machine checked and have no problems.

You can also configure the Java applet in Control Panel.

BTW, you should get the latest Java Runtime Enviroment which is 1.4.2.

Question: Java Runtime 6.0

Hi there,
First what a fantastic site. I have already gained so much from reading other peoples posts. Unfortuately I have not found an answer to my problem.

I try to install PS3server and it asks for java runtime to be installed. It then tries to install Java and I get the following error;

'This installation package could not be opened. Verify the package exists and that you can access it or contact the application vendor to that this is a valid windows installer package'.

I have been to the Java website and downloded various versions of Java and each time I try to install I get the same error. I have tried to install from the website and I have downloaded to my computer and installed from it. Always the same error.

Any suggestions please?

Regards
Brendan

Question: Java Runtime

I just updated my Java Runtime and was looking through various settings and notice the TIF section. It says Java uses these for quick execution later.

They take up 41MBs, which is no problem as I have lots of room, but my question are these necessary and do they act like TIFs in IE and keep track of your comings and goings on the internet.

Not overly parinoid about this but just wondering what other people do with them..

There is an option to not store them at all but don't know how that would effect java applications.

I have been getting the regutils.dll error when installing the latest version of Java. I've tried installing the old versions but I also got the regutils.dll error. I then tried Revo Uninstaller but that also didn't work. I've read on some forums that Windows Installer Cleanup utility can be used but I am not sure if it is the best tool. It has been removed from the Microsoft website so I am not sure if it is safe to use.

The Java versions left on my computer are version 13 and version 24.

Answer:Can't uninstall Java. Can't remove Java

I recommend downloading JavaRa from here http://sourceforge.net/projects/javara/

I have a Windows XP computer that started having Java problems. We tried to uninstall it and install a new one but can't do either one.

The computer currently has both Java 1.6.0.16 and 1.6.0.18 on it.

Whenever I try to uninstall 16 it says 'The feature you are trying to install is on a Network Resource that is unavailable. Click OK to try again or enter an alternative path to a folder containing the installation package jre1.6.0_13-c.msi'

Whenever I try to uninstall 18 it says the same but says jre1.6.0_17-s.msi can't be found.

I've searched the computer for these files and they are nowhere.

So I tried to install a new version without getting rid of the old and neither Java's online or offline installers will work. They give me several different errors. Once it said Error 1714. 'The older version of Java 6 Update 16 cannot be removed.' and once it even gave me the exact same error from above, once it said bin\awt.dll could not be found and it always adds in Error 1722 'There is a problem with this Windows Installer Package. A program run as part of the set up did not finish as expected'

I tried deleting Java manually and then reinstalling and that didn't help either so I just moved everything back the way it was.

Searching google found a bunch of people saying to use the Windows Installer Cleanup to remove the old Java but that program is no longer offered by Microsoft. Does anybody have any other suggestions?

Answer:Solved: What does Java 2 Runtime Env. do?

Java is a programming language (javascript is loosely based on it) that allows software to run across various OS platforms; run web applications inside a browser - like online games, stores etc.
The Java preference/settings panel is located in the Control Panel. You can turn off the auto update check there - but you should update to make sure that new versions with bug fixes and security updates are installed.

Some time ago I installed the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) which
adds a plug-in to IE. I must have had a good reason for installing
it at the time, I just can't remember what it was!

Since it loaded shortly after IE it became a nuisance, so I removed the
check mark from Tools > Internet Options > Advanced. I haven't thought
about it much until now.

Is is worth uninstalling the old version of JRE and installing the new?
(1.4.2 is the latest version.) In other words, does Windows run any
better with JRE installed? As far as I can tell, it just adds another
uneeded process to an already bloated and sluggish browser.

Answer:IE & Java Runtime Environment

It all depends. There are certain pages and applications that you can see only if you are using java. If you don't feel neglected by not being able to view them, then NO you don't need java. However, if you want to get the most out of your browsing experience you probably will want to use it.
If you decide to use it, uninstall what ever you have now in Control Panel -Add/Remove - java- and go here:

http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html

and download J2SE v. l.4.2_06 JRE

I play a game Called FM2007 which uses Java. I also occasionaly visit a site from my home town called Lossiefowk which also uses Java. When I visit this site I get a little Java icon in my task bar which disappears when I exit. This afternoon I visited Lossiefowk for the first time in months. This evening I went to play my game and as soon as I inserted the DVD Rom the Java Runtime starts loading and then the installation manager box appears as if I am going to make a new installation. I close this and then click on my game shortcut to load my game. This happens every time I insert the disc which is irritating as the game is already installed on my PC. I need to insert the disc or my game won't load. I went to the Lossiefowk site again and right clicked the icon to see if I could figure out how to stop this happening but couldn't see anything obvious.

I know it is something to do with my hometown site as the same thing happened once before only it never clicked for me why at the time. At around the same time it happened before, SI Games came out with a new patch for FM2007 and I decided at the time to do a clean uninstall/reinstall and start a new game with the new patch. The Java Runtime / Installation Manager problem disappeared of course when I reinstalled the game.

The game has been working perfectly since until today when I visited the Lossiefowk site. I realised immediately that the last time this happened was the last time I visited my hometown site and rea... Read more

I have a Lenovo T430 Thinkpad.  I have Java (7u67) installed.  The applet will run through the browser (firefox), but JRE won't run through the command line.  I have a program that uses Java, but that program won't run because JRE won't run.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled with no luck.  I'm running Windows 7 enterprise.  Any help would be appreciated.

Answer:java 2 runtime environment

It allows you to run java apps. Microsoft did used to do their own RE but it was sh|te and i think sun got a bit pi55ed about it which upset microsoft so they now (or afaik) don't ship any jave RE with windows.

So yeah you want it if you want to be able to run applications written in java then you want it

I reformatted like 6 months ago and am pretty sure I never had anythings called "Java" on my computer before that (that was the first and only reformat I have done this far and this drive). However, I visited a website a few months ago and it said I had to download this thing called Java to view it. So I did, and now I have a Java icon in my Control Panel and these two entries in my add or remove programs window:

J2SE Runtime Enviroment 5.0 Update 4

and

J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6

I think they may have caused me to get a few viruses, but I am not sure as they have of course been deleted for some time.

So, to my question: What is this Java nonsense and can I get rid of it??

Answer:Java Runtime Environment??

JAVA is a very usefull peice of software, without it you canot view most web sites that require it, and you may have a virus from downloading it depending on where you downloaded it from.

Hello,

Firstly, I need to notify you that I did not run Farbar Recovery Scan Tool, because when I downloaded it, Internet Explorer said: FRST64.exe is not commonly downloaded and could harm your computer.

Now onto the reason as to why I am starting this thread.

A strange window opened on my computer, notifying me that Flash Player needed an update. I immediately knew this was an attempt to fool me and I closed the window and searched on here for a solution. I followed the steps listed on http://malwaretips.com/blogs/please-install-flash-player-update-virus/

I then restarted my computer after the following steps and I got another webpage opening, this time it wasn't about Flash Player, but about Java Runtime and I've uploaded a screenshot. I ran all the steps listed on http://malwaretips.com/blogs/java-software-critical-update-removal/ and it still came so I need help on resolving this.

Thank you.

J2SE runtime 5 update 2
J2SE runtime 5 update 4
J2SE runtime 5 update 6

Can I safely remove update 2 and 4 without screwing anything up? Thanks for your help.

You can but, you dont have the latest version of Java. The latest version is Java Runtime Environment Update 7.

You can safely remove update 2,4 and 6. Only remove 6 after you install 7 from here:

Java software allows you to run applications called "applets" that are written in the Java programming language. These applets allow you to have a much richer experience online than simply interacting with static HTML pages.

Java Plug-in technology, included as part of the Java Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (JRE), establishes a connection between popular browsers and the Java platform. Java allows applications to be downloaded over a network and run within a guarded sandbox. Security restrictions are easily imposed on the sandbox. Many cross platform applications also require Java to operate properly.

Answer:Java Runtime Environment 8

As it is suggested that the old version 7 of Java be uninstalled prior to switching to version 8, there is a nice utility, JavaRa, that can be run after using the normal Java uninstall utility to confirm that all traces of the old version are gone:

I have never had any problems with my Java until I downloaded the newest version (7) the other day. Now, when I go on POGO.com and try to play most of the games I receive the following message:

The Java Runtime Environment cannot be loaded from
<C:\PROGRA~2\Oracle\JAVAFX~1.1RU\bin\server\jvm.dll>

I have uninstalled and reinstalled Java several times and that has not helped, and I have even gone to a few websites, including java.com, and followed some vague instructions that were supposed to solve the problem - all to no avail. Pogo is quite literally my lifeline to the outside world (yes, I know how that sounds,) since I am disabled and unable to leave my house without a lot of hassle. I am not a computer genius, but if someone knows how to fix this problem and can give me some clear instructions I would really appreciate it a lot. Of course, that is provided that it is a problem that can be fixed and not something that has gone wrong with my computer!! :cry I have a Toshiba laptop that is only about one year old. I use Windows 7 for my OS, and while I prefer Firefox or Chrome, I can also use IE, Safari, or Opera. I hope there is an answer to my problem, and hope to hear from someone soon!! :clap:clap

Thanks

It looks as though you have JavaFX installed - refer to http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javafx/overview/index.html
Is there any reason that you have this installed rather than the regular Java Runtime Environment?
If not, I'd uninstall anything Java related, then download the JRE installer available from http://majorgeeks.com/Sun_Java_Runtime_Environment_d7567.html

What browser is he using?

If it is IE, then check the security settings in Internet Tools. They should be at medium or lower.

Go over to Microsoft and download and install the java virtual machine.
http://www.microsoft.com/java/vm/dl_vm40.htm

Note, in 2000 it is integrated into the OS. All you can do with it, is to try installing service pack 2 and the hotfix.

Alternatively, you can try the Sun Java plugin.

OK this is weird, and I have no idea whatsoever on solving it.
Whenever I reach a page that requires Java, say ThinkFree's Power Edit feature (I almost never use it, but just an example), the famous "Plug-in Required to Display All Contents on This Page" yellow bar on the top pops up and says that I need to install Java Runtime Plug-in. So I click on that, go through the installer and it says that automatic installation failed. I click manual install, and go through the Java "drill". It says I have the the "recommended" version and do not need to install.
The pages that require Java still don't work. What is going on?

On a website like Canyourunit.com it will crash before getting results. I've have the latest version, tried re-installing trust me Im pretty good at troubleshooting problems but really cant get past this one.

Im Running Windows 7 64 Bit.

Answer:Java Runtime Not Working

Not sure what's causing it but we can try to uninstall it and all other versions, as well as all traces of it then start over.

So you can download JavaRa and ask it to remove any older versions of Java. Then you can use IObit Uninstaller and set it for Advanced Uninstall (should be set by default). Look for the latest Java and uninstall it as well, then use the Powerscan feature to remove all traces. Then you can go ahead and download the latest version and see if it works.

I have had my laptop since 2002 and I'm running out of HHD space with all the windows updates, security programmes, etc, etc, etc, that keep piling in. Because of this I am looking for programmes to get rid of and Java, as a large sized program cropped up. I am a regular internet user and tends to be finding out info apart from the occasional foray on YouTube, BBC i-player and certain music sites. I don't watch films or play games online and only occasionally purchase items online. Can I do without Java runtime environments?

Answer:Java runtime environments

Yes. You can live without Java like I do.

Java was a big internet buzz back in 90's. Many websites were designed using java in those days. Since then other technologies have become more popular like Adobe Flash, MS Silverlight. There are some Windows based applications written in Java but they are rare to find.

If you visit a website which requires Java, it will tell you so. Similarly, if you install or try to run an app which requires Java it will tell you to install JRE (Java Runtime Environment) on first run. So you can live without installing Java until the point of time you encounter some site or program that requires Java.

I'm not exactly sure what it is you installed, perhaps some developer's program -- but if you have Windows XP and you think you are suffering some after effects of the installation -- do a System Restore.

Start > Run: msconfig > launch system restore

and select a calendar date prior to the installation.

Hope this is in the right forum ... too much choice! I've chosen this forum because Net Nanny is a significant part of the prob - I think.

I'll give as much history as may be relevant. Was using Media Player 9. Can't remember if I was getting a problem then, but upgraded to Media Player 10. Didn't realise that I should have backed up my licences and so now unable to play stuff I've purchased and get "unable to find licence" error. Read in a forum that I could try restoring to a previous restore point. Did this. Didn't help so reverted back to original restore point. I had a trial version of NetNanny which I had uninstalled. Changing the restore point seemed to half reinstall netnanny. Now I get a Net Nanny error message ("Net Nanny config file does not exist") at bootup. Then after a few minutes a window pops up asking for me to enter an activation code. If I click cancel, I then get a Microsoft runtime error which closes Internet Explorer. Internet explorer can then not be opened without rebooting. So tried to uninstall net nanny but it won't do it - get error message "an installation support file could not be found". Tried to reinstall netnanny but get message - a previous version is on your computer.

The netnanny activation window has popped up several times as I've typed this and I realise that if I just ignore it, it minimizes and doesn't stop IE. That helps for the moment, but want to get rid o... Read more

I have the latest version of Java (7.25), but this appears in add/remove, also.

Another post prompted me to ask if it's safe to remove this Java program. Not sure if this is an older removable version using a different name (newer versions are labeled "Java 'version number and update here'") or if the updates are added to this as part of a Java framework or whatever...

Googled and found only old references that weren't specific enough for me to be able to discern exactly what this program is...:-o

Answer:Java 2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6

Java 7 update 25 in add/remove programs is legitimate. You should also see a Java icon in your control panel to quickly enable and disable java.

I prefer to use JavaRA to remove all Java.
http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/javara.html
Java used to be extremely poor at removing old versions when it updated. I think this was finally fixed in v 7, update 22. Before that, a computer might have several updates of v6 and several updates of v 7 that were security risks.

Note: I do not recommend using JavaRA to install the latest version. I did that once and got an out of date version so I had to run it again to clean off Java.

I'm trying to remove java RTE from my win XP comp. Add/Remove programs shows 5 instances of J2SE RTE Update 1, Update 2, Update 4 - 6. (What happened to #3 ). All are 117MB files, if that means anything.

When I press "remove" it goes into the install mode and after a few seconds I get an error message "You already have a version installed . Please uninstall..." I press OK then a couple of seconds later I get "Fatal Error during install".

I tried using Safemod and got an error saying (something like) "the Win Installer couldn't run - this may be because you're in safe mod or your XP is bad..."

Any clues?
