Does anyone suffer from blackouts or fits.

Question: Does anyone suffer from blackouts or fits.

I don't but I find the flashing Pop Ups either side of these pages very annoying and could see that they could cause some people to have fits.I'm being quite serious because this is why the BBC always say that there will be flash from cameras being shown on these shots as some people are subject to epilectic fits if they see flashing lights etc. Some years ago as the older members of this forum will remember there was on outcry against Pop Ups,Popping up here there and everywhere. It seems as though these complaints are now ignored.FE?RegardsNoelsRegards Noels

Preferred Solution: Does anyone suffer from blackouts or fits.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Does anyone suffer from blackouts or fits.

Flashing pop ups?? Which flashing pop ups?? Do a search on how to get rid of them, Noels.

Answer:I suffer from AnalogX. here is my log

First try this in Normal mode, if it doesn't succeed restart in Safe Mode (press f8 promptly on restart and select Safe Mode from the boot menu).

Do a ctrl-alt-del and End task on this process: mmx.exe

Run HijackThis and check and "fix" this entry:

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [XiD] "C:\progra~1\intern~1\mmx.exe"

Run Explorer and navigate to the Internet Explorer programs folder in c:\Program Files\Internet Explorer

and delete mmx.exe

Run regedit and navigate to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\AnalogX

and

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\XD

and right click on AnalogX and XD and delete them both.

If you are unable to delete mmx.exe in normal mode, reboot and do it in Safe Mode. You may also need to remove the registry entries again with HijackThis and the registry editor.

http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/trojan.analogx.html

Running McAfee in Safe Mode would be a good extra measure as well.

One day, my monitors were no longer receiving signals from my computer. I had initially thought that it was my gpu, but after testing other cards and monitors, I concluded it was my mobo. Well now with my new Mobo, when I boot up, at random places, it will freeze and reboot. Or it will just randomly cut out and tell me i lost signal or just stay black. Any help on this issue??? I need to play Skyrim!

Phenom II x4 965, 4 gb ram, nvidia 460, 1.5 tb hdd, msi mobo

Answer:I think my computer wants me to suffer

This sounds like you may have a problem with your power supply, it could be that it was not the mobo. It could also be the hard drive or the memory.

Please read this guide and follow the instructions to post the minidump files for analysis.

The easiest way to test the power supply is to borrow a power supply (of the correct wattage) and swap it with yours.

These two guides will allow you to test the memory and the hard drive, you will need another PC to make the discs.

Identify the make of your hard drive and then use one of the links below to get the manufacturer's diagnostics for ISO (CD) not the one for Windows.

When the download is complete right click the file and select Extract Here and burn the image to a CD.

In Windows 7 right click the extracted file, select Open With, then select Windows Disc Image Burning Tool then follow the prompts. For all other versions of windows (if you do not have an ISO burner) download this free software. ImgBurn
Install the program and start the application. Select the top left hand option to burn image file to disk and then on the next window click on the small yellow folder icon and browse to the file you have downloaded from the links below. Then click on the two grey discs with the arrow in between (bottom left) and leave it to complete the operation.

Boot the PC into the Bios setup and set the CD/DVD drive to 1st in the boot sequence. Insert the disk in the drive then reboot and the disc will load into dos.

Adobe and Sun have released patches today for several critical vulnerabilities that affect their respective Flash Player and Java Runtime Environment.

Many of these vulnerabilities can be exploited to execute arbitrary code on victims' computers just by making them access a malicious URL using any application that invokes Flash Player or JRE. In English, this means that you can get hacked just by viewing a webpage that contains malicious Flash or Java content.
Many of the vulnerabilities are cross-platform, and between them, they have most OS-browser combinations covered. You are vulnerable until you install the patches. Read the advisories from the vendors and grab the patches here and here.

There are no reported in-the-wild exploits yet, but we might see some soon as enough technical information required to build an exploit has been released publicly for atleast a few of these vulnerabilities.

Happy Easter holidays everybody,

Since a few days I have a serious svchost problem. Its taking most of my 3gb of ram and when it does my pc crashes.

I have looked around on the Net for some time for possible solutions, but have not found anything that helped. Installed dozens of programmes (Kaspersky, IObit Security 360, Spyware Blaster, Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, Combofix etc), but really nothing seems to help. Kaspersky Web anti virus tells me every now and then that it has blocked sites such as http://fr0udsafetycheck0n.com and http://jan2.cz.cc. I expect that might have something to do with it. It also could be windows update which behaves strangely, but here I also tried many of the advices given on the Net. When I try to update through IE, IE refuses to work properly and when I do get through I get an update error (0x80072EFE).

This is what HijackThis v2.0.4 gives me:

1. My internet connection drops out continually.
2. I get a ping noise when typing and I need to reset the cursor every time.
3. Outlook continually freezes and won't work
4. Programs are often difficult to open then suddenly do.
All of the above require constant restarts.
5. With Windows 7 my internet connection opened first then my virus protection which immediately updated this has now reversed and the update happens down the track.
6. The three times I rang customer service I got zero help. Then I wrote to Microsoft, same as customer service, no reply, no support.

Answer:Windows 10 is awful, anyone else suffer as I do?

This could be a hardware issue, so please register and provide details about your device. Also, do you use the official version or the Insider Preview?

I use Windows XP Pro on my PC and connect to the internet via a cable modem.I am linked to a second PC with Windows 98SE, using a router DI-Link-704 b and recently went to the D-Link site to set up a port, which I did. Since then, the second PC will not connect to the internet but I note on startup that the light where the router is attached comes on when the PC is booting up, but then goes off. Can you please offer advice on what I should do to resolve the matter.

Answer:Why do I suffer with a lack of intelligence?

Is the router in line after the modem, linking the computers?

I have put many VHS videos on to a disc HDD but have acquired a SSD which is larger in capacity but very much smaller in size and needs no AC plug - very nice.

If I transfer all those videos from the disc HDD to the SDD will there be any loss of image quality and if so how much if that's possible to say.

Thanks for any advice.

Hi,
I'm thinking of getting a custom pc built by a company here in the UK. The build I'm looking at is the following:
MSI Z170A Krait Gaming Intel Z170 (Socket 1151) DDR4 ATX Motherboard
Intel Core i5-6600K 3.9GHz (Skylake) Socket LGA1151 Processor - OEM
Corsair Vengeance LPX 8GB (2x4GB) DDR4 PC4-24000C15 3000MHz Dual Channel Kit - Black (CMK8GX4M2B3000
Samsung SM951 128GB M.2 PCI-e Gen3 8Gbps x 4 AHCI Solid State Drive (MZHPV128HDGM-00000)
Samsung 500GB 850 EVO SSD 2.5" SATA 6Gbps 32 Layer 3D V-NAND Solid State Drive (MZ-75E500B/EU)
TP-Link 300Mbps Wireless N PCI Express Adapter (TL-WN881ND)
Microsoft Windows 10 64-Bit DVD - OEM (MS-KW9-00139)
BitFenix Neos ATX Tower White/Silver
Raijintek Aidos Direct Contact CPU Cooler - Black
MSI GeForce GTX 960 Gaming 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card - Red x2
Golden Green HX 650W "80 Plus Gold" Power Supply - Black
Will this suffer from bottlenecking? The 128gb SSD is dedicated for the OS. The GPU's will be SLI'd.
Thanks in advance for any advice!
Cheers.

Answer:Will this computer build suffer from bottlenecking

Will this suffer from bottlenecking?

Unlikely but, SLI is not always well supported by games, poor performance or simply won't work in many cases. Rather than get 2 GTX 960s, wait and go with a single GTX 1070. None of the problems that can plague SLI, more performance, lower power consumption and noise and, likely, similar purchase price.

This is my first thread here. I have got Ideapad 310 15ikb I5 1TB and 4GB RAM.  Before this I have Intel 4440 (6MB cache and 16GB RAM) which I used for Visual Studio , MySQL and other programming work. Going back to 4GB RAM is not looking good to me. For first 2 days I have this PC I only update update and update now it's working but it's stop me for 2-3 seconds I take one action. I am looking for update RAM. Please help me.  Can I open it myself and put RAM on it. (Like I easily does same in desktop without void warranty) and I am looking for using SSD on my PC. I have Lenovo recovery in my laptop and I don't want to loose it. I am thinking to get 256 GB SSD. Is that possible to setup this (all parition) to SSD. or better I looking for ISO which I can install on my SSD once I install it. So My question is I want to upgrade RAM and HDD both. Plese let me know about both options, Thanks in advanced.

right i using WindowsXP and recently it just started to slow right down when i turn my computer on. it doesn't happen all the time but lets say it happen every 3 startups. i have norton systemworks installed so i use its Speed Disk to Defrag my hard drive, usually about once a month. but recently i need to defrag it every three days, i think this is the problem why my computer starts so slow some times. has any one had this problem before?

Answer:Windows Startup Suffer Major Slowing Down!!!!!!!

run - msconfig [type it into the command line and press enter] - go to the top right tab [startup] and in the drop down list you will see a lot of progs that could run at startup. click in the box to take the tick out of everything other than your virus checker and firewall if you have one. Also leave the tick in any other prog you want to run at startup. Restart and see if this sorts it out. My experience is that Norton often seems to give this form of trouble with xp. Once you have it started put a tick in the warning box that comes up on starting to warn you that you are fiddling with the startup.

Hi all,

since now 1 month, my Qosmio X300 - 126 (9800M GTX) suffer the (in)famous "PCI Express x1 Bug", and i need two weeks to find the problem !!! If you want to know what this bug is about, check this :

http://pchardwareblips.dailyradar.com/story/how_to_fix_the_pci_express_x1_bug_rev_3_0/

If i launch GPU-Z.0.3.4, it show me exactly what you an see in the shot : a bus interface = PCI-E x16 @ x1

For those who want to know, it gave me only 3500 points in 3D mark06, not the 110000 points the qosmio can get !!! That's mean /4 fps in performance with any game !!!

I tried everything possible : bios update, drivers update, everything, but i'm still in PCI express x1..
The Qosmio's bios can't allow some of the tweak people used to reset the PCI express at x16, so i'm totaly stuck now !

Please help me, or i ll need to send my laptop to Toshiba for repair ASAP (i leave in 3 weeks)

Sorry for my bad english

Answer:MY Qosmio X300 suffer the famous "PCI Express x1 Bug"

At first I must say that your English is very well and understandable. :)

In my opinion you should not try to make some experiments with your notebook. it is newest notebook model with valid warranty and if you are not satisfied I recommend you to contact nearest authorized service provider. Explain the situation and ask for help.
Service has special diagnostic tools and if there is some hardware problem they can fix it for you.

Please don't waste your time and contact service as soon as possible.

Question: Blackouts

First off i would like to say Hello to everyone, Hello lol

Anyways I just finished making my new pc well actualy i finished it last month but i been getting a problem that i wonder if you could help me. I been getting monitor blackouts when when doing things like surfing net watching video clips and now its happening when playing game wat happens is my pc montior goes black for a second or two then comes back on. Sometimes the screen is abit blured untill i min/max the screen any ideas why this is happening i can't put my finger on it.

My Specs
A8N-SLI Deluxe
AMD Athlon 64 3500+
1024 DDR RAM
Asus EN6800 Ultra
480W PSU Thermaltake with a 20/24 Pin adapter
Windows XP Pro Service pack 2 ( Not the 64 bit one )
I also got a DELL 2001FP pc monitor that runs at 1600x1200 @ 60hrz
As far as i know all drivers are upto date and nothings overclocked.

Post any ideas even if its a stab in the dark.
Thanks.

Answer:Blackouts

I would get the latest drivers, which is 71.89.

Check what temperature your GPU is at, just incase it is over heating.

After that, try a different monitor, if the same thing happens on a different monitor, it is the graphics card, if it doesn't than it is the monitor.

No BSOD, just flashes black and then restarts....sometimes when it goes to restart it gets stuck on the dell loading screen...un starting to have another feeling it has something to do with my D-Link adapter. a month ago i was unable to start my computer becuase of it but when i unplugged it was fine, and just yesterday i couldnt log into my account because it would freeze, when i removed it worked fine. Would you think the router could be causing this? or would it be a conflict between a peice of malware and my realtime protectors?

Question: Monitor Blackouts

It's like it sounds, except it most commonly occurs while playing Warcraft III.

I've seen plenty of blackout threads, but none that fit my description all together, so i've decided to make a thread for it.

I will be mid game, or rarely mid doing something in general, and the screen will freeze up. Sometimes flash to a pile of coloured lines for a quick second. And most of the time switch to a permenent black screen, where any keyboard or mouse motions have no effect on what actually might be going on.

Except in reality I'm actually lagging out of the game, but what's more curious is, I can still hear my winamp music playing in the background just fine. Though I've lost all control until I manually reset the computer.

There has been a few times that the monitor has RECOVERED from this state by flashing to the stream of colours, then back to the Warcraft III window and everything just fine.

I've switched to windowed mode recently, though it did happen before. I think from my experience it's more common now than it was.

Question: short blackouts

Im running win xp on a 1.7processor with 512ram and i recently installed gforce3 graphics card. It seemed to work fine but now every so often (maybe half hour intervals) my screen will black out for a second then re-appear. I have tried to update the drivers but i am apparently using the most up to date ones at the minute. Anyone any other ideas what could be wrong?

Answer:short blackouts

I am assuming the graphics card because it is the only thing i have changed recently but if anyone knows any other causes for this fault it would be much appreciated.

Question: Webcam Blackouts

I am off overseas and had my wife purchase a webcam. She got it all set up, but every 5-10 minutes, sometimes less, the picture will go black while she's talking to me and she'll have to unplug and replug the camera in. While I was home for a couple weeks just recently, I went all through her computer doing various diagnostic programs (Norton, anit-ad/spyware, etc.) but nothing's seemed to fix it.

She has a Veo Mobile Connect Webcam. I've looked on the companies site and they have *nothing* on this camera as they have a whole new line of products out. Maybe I missed it? What can I do to rectify this problem? Is there a way to troubleshoot to determine whether it's the camera, the computer, or maybe even a low connection speed (but she's on cable internet)?

Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Question: Random Blackouts

Hey,I recently upgraded to windows vista Ultimate 64Bit from Windows XP Media centre edition. At first everything was fine. Then i installed a video game. It came up with an error invlovling Directx 9.0c so i reinstalled it. Ever since i have been getting random short Screen blackouts. They last for a second then it returns to normal. After a while they stop but they happen frequently at startup. I reinstalled DX9 again however there is no changeWhy is this? any ideas? Thanks very much

Answer:Random Blackouts

Hi, only guessing, but I suspect that you might have been better-off getting the 32Bit version rather than the 64Bit. If you Google "Vista 32bit or 64bit" you might get more detailed information.

Answer:using two screens but they have blackouts

Kulinga, I am having the same issue.  I have WIndows 10 installed and I am using the HP 2013 Ultraslim Dock.  I noticed it happens when the Fans kick it, the monitors will go blank for a few seconds and then come back.  Sometimes both or sometimes one monitor.  I do not have a solution at this time unfortunelty but hopefully HP tech support can figure something out. Have you noticed if your monitors flicker when the fan kicks in?

Question: Video Blackouts !?

Good day fellas,

evga ti4200 128mb agp vid card
generic atx case w/ 300W power supply
2 extra fans
40G Western Digital 7200 hard drive
Compaq 15" monitor circa 1996

All righty, try to bear with me on this,

So I purchased an evga ti4200, put it in my mobo and things ran fine for about 3 months, when my screen started to go black, as if it were going into power save mode, although that is turned off, and I would have to reboot. It happened more frequently when playing 3d games, although going online, using other applications, or simply having nothing going on got me the same response. When i put the card back in after about a week, it would work fine for a few weeks and then start blacking out again. This happens on and off, where it would work fine for awhile, and then not.

I've updated vid, 4 in 1, monitor, bios drivers, and patches from the evga company, all to no avail. I tried a friends ATI radeon 9000, and the screen did not go black, but instead showed a strange checkerboard effect, and needed to be rebooted. He put my card in his rig, which are almost the same specs, and there were no problems. So now I'm using the good old 3dfx pci voodoo and no monitor/video probs whatsoever.

Any ideas as to the problem(s)? It does not seem to be overheating. Do any viruses do this? I thought it was the video card, but since the ati doesn't work as well, it might be the mobo. Tried what tech supp... Read more

hello, I was wondering if you guys here can help me out with a problem that I'm facing...

I'm running an AMD Athalon 3000 64-bit processor, an ATI Radeon 9550 256MB graphics card, 1G worth of RAM and I have a TV tuner card in one of the slots on the motherboard..

I'm a heavy gamer and also at the same time a university student. Recently I have had some trouble playing games on my computer. For example, when I play games like Warcraft 3 and Bloodrayne 2, after about 20 seconds into the game, the whole screen goes blank. The only way that I can use my computer again is by restarting it.

At first, I thought it was problem with the graphics card and reduced the setting of the games to the LOWEST. Even then the problems still persists. And this applies to most of the games in my collection. I figured that it was a problem with the power supply unit. But the, I found that there are several games, with MUCH HIGHER graphics requirments (e.g. Prince of Persia the Warrior Within) that run with no problems.

after trying stuff like scanning the drives as to where the games are installed with Norton, using Ad-aware to root out spywares, and even installing in diffrent drives, the problem still remains.

Please advise.

Thank you.

Question: Screen blackouts

Yesterday evening I got my new LCD monitor in the door, unpacked and plugged it in.

Everyone seems to go smooth, but one thing :

When playing a game, and there is a lot of animations on the screen going on, the monitor goes black for 2-3 seconds. This happens unlimited number of times with no certain timespace.

It even turns black when the games are minimized and I just browse in windows.

I've updated all drivers, installed all kinds of Direct X, changed resolutions and HZ in both games and windows, and controlled all cables is plugged in correctly.

The monitor works perfectly well on other computers than mine.

Any help would be much appreciated ! Thanks in advance.

Hello, my computer has just now started acting up after a few years of solid use. About two days ago I replaced my fan and haven't seen any problems since then. However, this morning when I went to turn on my computer upon loading up my desktop my screen simply blacked out and I was unable to do anything. Everywhere from the start-up up to this point is fine. I decided to shutdown and take a look at the computer, I dusted out a few things and tried to start up again.

This time around I recieved a System failed VGA check message. I shut down once more, reseated the video card, and all was well again. I got up to the start-up and once again screen blacks out.

I have an ASUS A8N SLI mobo and the card is a XFX GeForce 6800. The issue of the power supply was what I found for the VGA failed message, however I'm using a 480W supply and I don't think that would be it. If anyone could give me an idea of what causes this blacking out it would be very appreciated.

on Wednesday, I did a major upgrade to my PC. Now I am getting occasional BSOD's. Another strange thing that is happening is that the drivers (display, network, etc.) will seemingly stop working, then come back online in 30 seconds or so, but windows shows no notification of them not working. Any assistance diagnosing these issues would be appreciated.

I have run a 5-pass, high quality memory test and found no errors.

Specs before upgrade:

Answer:crazy temp blackouts

Usually the black screen means that your video card is switching between display modes.

Most games run around 800x600 while most default setups are at 1024x768, so when you want to play the game your vid card has to change to the smaller res.

I'm not sure why the application would close, other than if it's trying to switch to a reolution that your vid card can't handle, but it should pop up an error telling you that.

What game are you trying to play?

Hello I recently frankenstiend a computer together out of parts i had laying around. The motherboard and HDD came from the same computer, and had a legal copy of vista on it. I am also running duel monitors. Everything was working fine till... one day my main monitor wasn't waking up from power save mode. My first thought is something happened to my graffix. But then i learned if i hit ctrl/alt/delete and brought up the vista prompt, it brought my monitor back on. This doesn't happen every time the monitors enter power mode, just sometimes. Then last night while i was wowing, the screen would blink about every 30 mins. but outside of wow it was fine. I was thinking it was my graphics card, but outside of wow it never does it. And once the card is on i don't really have any problems. Plz let me know of any ideas cause i am stumped.

I have an HP Pavilion dv6500t Core 2 Duo laptop with 4GB of RAM (but Vista 32-bit). For some reason, the computer will not stay asleep for more than 40 minutes (roughly, sometimes it lasts longer, sometimes shorter). In hibernation mode, it will hibernate for a while, but still wake up. I've checked scheduled tasks to the best of my ability checking for tasks that are set to wake the computer, but I have discovered nothing.

I'm concerned because the laptop, after being on for six or seven hours when I'm not home, runs very hot. Does anyone have any idea what may be causing this?

Another symptom I have is that when I open the laptop's lid from being closed (after it turns itself on), the screen is black (no backlight or anything) and I can rarely log on. I have the fingerprint reader so sometimes I am able to log on, at which point the screen refreshes and I am set to go. Ideas?

For some reason the block my house is on has a blackout problem, we have a few every year. It's very obnoxious.

Anyways, my computer doesn't turn on after blackouts, atleast not immediatly. Twice now it's happened, I'd unplug and replug everything, nothing would seem to work, then after about a day I'd try turning it on just because I'd miss being able to use it and it'd randomly turn on, like it was some sort of miracle. My power supply (Antec SP-500) supposedly has surge protection, and my computer is also plugged into a surge protector.

However, we had a blackout about 2-3 days ago now and it still hasn't had one of those miracle moments where it randomly turns on. Considering it's done this in the past and turned on, is there a chance that I'm missing something that is causing it to not turn on?

Also, my motherboard's light is on while the power is plugged in. I dunno if that makes a difference or not.

There is still some visibility on the whole screen, but barely anything and certainly not enough to use the computer. I can hit "Fn F5 " and it will come back up, but usually only temporarily and sometimes maybe only for a second. Any advice on this? Could this possibly be some virus? I have run online scans and not detected anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

I've had a randomly recurring problem for the past few weeks. I put my computer to sleep and when I go back to it several hours later my monitor has a fair amount of noise (the kind you see, not the kind you hear) and my monitor will go black for a few seconds and come back (it will go black several times for a few seconds each time). It will do this for a couple of minutes, then the problem seems to resolve itself. It doesn't happen every time I wake the computer up, but I'd guess it's about 75% of the time.

Any ideas as to how to figure out what's wrong?

Thanks.

Recently I started experiencing video blackouts during any reboot. My cards were the XFX NVidia 8800 GTX 768 MB SLI video card, and the Ageia PhysX Graphic Accelerator. My OS on that computer is WinXP SP3. The processor is an AMD Athlon 64 X2 AM2 5000+, the MB is an Asus M2N32-SLI DLX nGorce 590 SLI, and I have 2G PC6400 DDR2 RAM.

I sent the video card back on an RMA, and while it's gone, bought a less expensive PCI Express card to try. Upon boot, the video goes black, and the led on the monitor blinks on and off.

I tried uninstalling all of the video drivers, the PhysX driver, and removed the PhysX card from the slot.

I just tried doing a repair on WinXP to uninstall SP3. So far, nothing is helping. When I do get a display through the boot, I only get 800X600 resolution (with either NVidia card) and 16 bit color. If I try to adjust the display properties, the video goes black again.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!
Thanks,

It is the GPU most likely because you are able to go back by pressing alt tab. Follow these steps:

1) Download this tool and run it: http://sites.amd.com/us/game/downloads/Pages/catalyst-uninstall-utility.aspx.
2) Restart your PC.
3) Install the latest driver: http://sites.amd.com/us/game/downloads/Pages/radeon_win7-64.aspx.

Answer:blackouts while playing games

What sort of card do you have? It's either the graphics card or the monitor (could be the monitor, but you'd have to use a different monitor to confirm.)You can type DXdiag into run and then go to display to tell the model of card. If it is an onboard card, it would be as easy as getting a new video card and plugging it into the PCI slot on your motherboard (however, you also should check power supply voltages.)

Another symptom I have is that when I open the laptop's lid from being closed (after it turns itself on), the screen is black (no backlight or anything) and I can rarely log on. I have the fingerprint reader so sometimes I am able to log on, at which point the screen refreshes and I am set to go. Ideas?

Hey, fresh install for Windows 10 64-bit  after obtaining ~3 years used computer (which btw still has 2 days of guarantee left) and my screen randomly goes to black. Everything works as intended (for example movie keeps playing, i can hear it) but I just cant see it. The issues arent driver based - ive tested with older and newest Intel drivers, Ive updated AMD drivers 3 times and the system works flawlessly - only random blackouts now and then. Most of the time it happens 3-5 mins after Ive unplugged the power cord, but its totally totally random. It happens usually 1-2 times a day but sometimes 5 times in 10-12 minutes so I have no idea of how to fix it. It works better when the power cord is plugged in. It have never blacked out when Ive been playing cs:go or WOW for example, only while reading mails, using some browser or watching video with whatever software (vlc, browser, netflix etc). Driving me nuts to try to solve this sort of problem. Also no error logs showing out anything about this cause the computer and system keeps working on the blackout. Moving around the computer or keeping it on table has no effect on this problem, so no need to suggest a "loose cable" or so.  br, Hulaq

This has happened on and off for a while now, usually when I'm watching videos, using Skype, etc. My laptop simply shuts down without warning and then on re-booting asks me to use startup repair, which usually fixes the problem. Doesn't always include a BSOD, but last night it did when I re-booted. What do people make of this? I've also noticed my laptop gets extremely hot when this happens.

Thanks.

Hi

I have been having a lot of problems with a new build, an ASUS B85M-G motherboard and an i5 4570 (1150) processor. I have had one BSOD, several brief blackouts, a few crashes, and some noise from the hard drive, a WD Caviar Black 500GB. The hard drive makes some loud knocking sounds on every boot from cold, occasional loud revving noises, and a whining noise on every shutdown.

I have ran the SF Diagnostics tool and have been able to collate all information except MGADIAG and CPU-Z. The application crashed on MSINFO32. Please let me know if I have provided enough information for analysis. SF Diagnostics info attached.

Thanks.

I have two problems.

I have reinstalled 64-bit Windows 7 Ultimate about 5 days ago on my lenovo thinkpad Laptop and updated all the driver (and literally ALL the possible drivers). And now I have problems with games that ran perfectly fine in the past.

For example, while running Dota 2 Beta black portions of the screen go black in the main menu; as for the game, it is basically unplayable.
Furthermore, Starcraft II run perfectly before, but now, as soon as I enter the game, the CPU sky-rockets to 100% and it remains there, leaving me with 4 fps.

And I'm tired of battling with this by myself. Help please?

It appears that your laptop uses AMD's "switchable" graphics. You need to install BOTH the 64 bit Intel drivers and the "Thinkpad switchable graphics driver" from the Video section here:

Drivers and software - ThinkPad T500, W500

Let us know whether it helps.

Answer:Desktop blackouts multiple times a day.

Have you tried running the system without the R9 video card that was recently introduced to see if it behaves on its own without this video card. If you had a prior video card in this system that was healthy then install that back to this computer otherwise run on integrated video if that is available. If the problem remains then we know its not video card related. If it goes away then its either video card or power supply.

That probably isn't a good thread title, but this issue has been plaguing me for so long that I'm not even sure what to call it. I custom built my computer last November, and noticed this issue on a couple different monitors.

My screen will randomly blackout during/after startup. The computer will still be functioning just fine (if I am watching a video, the audio still plays, I can still pause or play the video/game), but the visual display will stop. The monitor's LED indicator still thinks it is on as well. The blackout lasts anywhere from a few seconds, to a few minutes, if it displays at all.

When I put my system into sleep mode, it will start again with several blackouts, but usually not display anything until I restart the system. The BIOS splash screen/windows loading screen will usually be blacked out or flicker on for a brief second, but I can enter the BIOS.

The issue seems to disappear after I restart my computer a few times, although the startup screens still do not usually display. I also recently tried taking the motherboard battery out and putting it back in, and this seemed to resolve the issue for two days or so. After a few startups, the issue would return.

Otherwise, reseating the graphics card and RAM has not done anything to improve things. I have reinstalled the drivers for the graphics card, and not noticed any change in the behaviors

Some days, my computer needs several restarts before the issue largely disappears, and on others, it wor... Read more

Since swapping displays didnt fix it... then I'd swap video cards, but first update the driver to latest and see if that helps. I feel you have a video card that is having issues. Also for the fact that this system has the APU, you should be able to remove the video card and run on the APU's GPU portion to see if this issue goes away. Yes, the performance wouldnt be there, but if it goes away for a problem then you know to blame the video card, and if it remains you know its a system problem and not video card.

A few, maybe 3 days ago i my computer completely restarted itself and windows warned me of a critical system error it tried to fix, after that the edges of the monitor began to appear to be jumping and creating gaps. The computer began to behave sluggishly then eventually the monitor turned black, then flashed back on, then turned black again. Earlier, my computer had been warning me of virtual memory issues and because this had been frequently happening i began to ignore it (it usually resolved itself.)
Now, i can only access the desktop after running it in safemode but obviously this isn't very practical, i have visited the bios to check for problems but have made no changes, i've also run virus scans and such, but none of those have yielded results. I've run disk cleanup however the problem still persists.
I desperately need assistance as this is my school computer.

Hello
I have my LED TV hooked up to the PC using an HDMI to HDMI cable and periodically the video and audio cuts out leaving a black screen for 1-2 seconds before returning again. It's all very random, for example I could be watching or doing something for 30 minutes and all is ok but on another occasion it could cut out twice in the same amount of time.
The graphics card in the PC is an ATI Radeon HD3650 256MB and it's a Samsung TV model UE40ES5500.
I tried using a different HDMI cable but that didn't help nor using the Displayport to HDMI cable. I also hooked up a laptop to the TV using the same cable and everything was fine so I know it's definitely an issue with the PC and not the TV. I've played around with different combinations of resolution and refresh settings but no joy here either.
It's a Dell desktop so I've used the Dell diagnostic test utility via their website and frustratingly the test came back all clear with no cut outs during the 25 minute video tests. I've also installed a utility which monitors the temperature of the GPU and it ranges from about 45 degrees celsius at startup, 60 degrees when idle once warmed up and to about 75 degrees when watching video. It did go up to about 90 degrees during some of Dell's diagnostic tests. But I assume the temperature ranges are normal?
Regarding the graphics card, as I was googling for support for this specific card, the images of the card are slightly different to my own. I've since found out that it's Dell's own ve... Read more

I have just bought a Lenovo SL500 notebook and am very pleased with it except for one annoying problem: at odd times my screen blacks out briefly then momentarily flashes on, then off and then on again - then it usually remains stable for long periods (sometimes for hours) before doing it again. I cannot find any noticeable reason for this problem - it can happen at any time - just after booting up, or while writing an email or file, or while just sitting idle. It only happens sporadically - once to three or four times a day. I phoned Lenovo support and they got me to download an update file but this hasn't helped. I then phoned again and they said I should send the computer back to them (it is, of coursed, still on warranty). I am loathe to do this for three reasons: 1. I live far out in the bush in northern Australia and (from past experience) it is expensive and slow to get computers to and from service centres in the mail (and we only get to the Post Office in town once a week usually) and, 2. As the problem is so sporadic I worry that, unless some technician is willing to sit there watching the screen (perhaps for a long time), they may not think there is any problem, 3. I'm in the middle of trying to get a book ready to send off to publishers and don't 'want to be computerless for a week or more.  I would be very grateful for any suggestions or things I might try before finally having to send the computer off in the mail. Also, has anyone else e... Read more

I've seen several discussions about Precision M6500 blackouts.  The diagnosis seemed to be related to the touchpad and newer manufactures would presumably have a newer touchpad.  For a while my M6500 didn't have any problem so I thought I was safe.  But then it started.
Dell doesn't support Windows 10 on this PC but Microsoft seemed to feel it should work, and for a while it did.  But now, here are the symptoms.
If I put the computer to sleep (not hibernate) and then awaken it, then usually I can use it normally for a duration of around 10 seconds to 1 minute, and then it blacks out.
If I put it in hibernation and then awaken it, then usually I can use it normally, period.  But sometimes after a duration of around 1 minute, it blacks out.
One time it was neither sleeping nor hibernating, but turned off the backlight after 15 minutes of inactivity.  I pressed the keyboard's Shift key, the backlight turned on, I used it normally for about 10 seconds, and then it blacked out.
When blacked out, the hard drive activity LED still flashes, and Windows responds to a ping command, but the keyboard and touchpad are ignored.  I set power settings so that pressing the power button would tell Windows to hibernate, but during the next blackout, the power button was also ignored (until I held it down 4 seconds to tell the BIOS to power off).
I installed TeamViewer.  During the next blackout, Windows responded to ping, but an attempted ... Read more

It sounds as though the InterActual Player is not compatible with your PowerDVD version or your system drivers. The Internet Explorer icon was put on the desktop when IAPlayer tried to install. I haven't been able to find a live link on the IA home page, which could also add to the problem.

I've got an issue that i've been dealing with at our company ever since we started buying the widescreen T60s in 2007. We randomly have reports of people's video freezing up/blacking out, most of the time the users aren't doing anything other than clicking around in Outlook, or something in AutoCAD (we're an architecture firm). Hardly anything too demanding on the video cards. The machines only can be powered off by holding the power button for 10 seconds, they are totally frozen. Here's some specs on the units and notes:- these are 8744-5BU T60 15.4" widescreen units, they are 2.0ghz Core2Duo with Radeon X1400 video card.- 2GB of ram (1GBx2), most of the time it's either kingston or lenovo ram - i've tried swapping memory which seemed to reduce or solve the issue on some laptops, but it still happens occaisionally.  It also seems to happen with even 1 installed.- the video card driver.. i've tried many different revisions but at the current time it happens even with the latest ATI driver from lenovo's site- bios is at the latest revision or 2nd to latest- most workstations with the issue are being ran with a monitor, but not allthis problem continues to be so frustrating for me as desktop support , it's driving me insane, as i've tried almost everything I can think of to stop it from happening... sometimes it's in spurts where the user will have 3-5 reboots a day and lose lots of work.I've never called IBM about it because I doubt they're going to solve it. Right ok, i need some serious technical help.
I had an ATI Radeon 9200SE it worked fine for the good half of a year, then i started getting Random Screen blackouts and a VPU Error, saying that it was no longer recieving graphics commands, these would stall for about 3 - 8 seconds and sometimes more. I then a few weeks ago went and bought a new graphics card in hope that it was just the card that had seen its days, card i bought was a GeForce FX5500. and now its still doing the same without the error, i think that was an ATI fail safe feature. but sometimes it will cut out completely and monitor says No Signal, ive tried rolling back to ever single forceware driver i could find, ive tried uninstalling and reinstalling ive tried reformatting my computer and running fresh. It's really doing my head in i want it fixed lol and also when i play games, they crash, and flicker, and one time in MOHAA when i actually got it to run, the textures and objects looked as if they were being streched, sort of big lines, dont know how to describe it.
but im going to buy a friends GeForce FX5600 today, and see if i still get the same thing, but pleasee can anyone help? i seriously would appreciate it, and i seriously need it.

thanks

Answer:Random Screen Blackouts and Games Crash. HELP

That could be a few things but the stretching lines indicates an overheating GPU on your video card. Your Nvidia utility should have a temperature display. The utility is either in the toolbar or right click on the desktop and select NVIDIA Display then select temperature Settings. Do this as close to possible to the failure point. WHat does the temp readout say now? Then run a gaame and let me know what it says.

Have to go to work but I'll check in later. It should be below 60c at idle. Higher is OK but it means you have a overheating problem in your case.

Hello. First post here, so letís hope it will be fruitful.

A few days ago, I was infected with a search engine hijacker (the ďgugleĒ one, if Iím not mistaken) that messed with my computer, an HP Pavilion Entertainment PC laptop with Windows Vista. Iím normally pretty good with getting rid of minor bugs on my computer, but this was out of my league, and it got to the point where it made my sound not work at all, something that really kills me. Last night, I ended up resorting to treating it as a corrupted user account on my computer and followed Microsoftís suggestions to copy over the profile data (such as documents, pictures, etc.) onto a new account, after which I deleted the old one.

After that session, my comp worked fine with none of the previous problems. However, when I shut down and booted back up again, I encountered an odd problem. Two out of the four times so far something on my computer froze up (such as Word), my computerís screen would go black and completely unresponsive. The row of buttons on the top were still glowing, which Iím pretty sure means that itís still ďon,Ē but I couldnít get the screen to display and had to resort both times to hammering the power button to manually shut it down. When I booted it back up again, I got the following pop-up both times:

Windows has recovered from an unexpected shutdown.

Hi there, I am new to this forum (and hope I have put this in the correct place!)

Lately I have been having trouble with my graphics whilst playing some games, general Windows usage and watching videos is no problem. However, some games are giving me trouble, namely COD2 and COD4.

Initially there does not seem to be any issues with these and I can happily play for 10-20 minutes, but then strange things start happening to the graphics. It starts with several pixels flickering black on the scren randomly, and slowly gets worse the longer the game runs, purple flashes start appearing on objects and black patches occur from the sides of the screen to the centre (see attached screenshots for examples). This happens on both COD2 and COD4, but never on COD1, infact I could play COD1 for hours without running into any problems similar to this.

Alt & Tab-ing back to Windows can breifly surpress the problems, but they will ultimatly reappear soon after. The only way I can find to get around these is to exit the games (perhaps shut down the system) and leave them off for an hour or more. If I attempt to carry on with the game through these problems then the graphics eventually shut off completely and I have to restart the machine.

I also recieved a couple of Nvidia warning messages recently stating:

"Your NVIDIA graphics card is not receiving enough power. As a result, the graphics card has lowered its performance level to a level that allows continued safe operation.

I've got a Lenovo T410 computer. I just got a 4337 docking station, and I'm having a dispay problem that is making it almost unusable. Every so often, for no discernable reason, the image on my external monitor blacks out. After a second or two it reappears. These blackouts often happen in clusters of three or four, a few seconds apart; then the display works normally for as long as half an hour. This is at least partly a software problem, not a hardware problem. I know this because when the display reappears, the desktop and inactive windows reappear first, leaving a black hole where the active window should be. A half second or so later, the active window is restored. Sometimes the order is reversed: the active window reappears first, followed by the rest of the display. In either case, there is no way it could happen if the problem were purely hardware. I've noticed a few other bits of weirdness associated with USB ports. When I connect a USB device while the computer is docked, that often causes the monitor to black out momentarily. The first time I used the dock I attached a smartphone to one of the USB ports before turning the computer on. As soon as I turned it on the smartphone buzzed and flashed its screen, then the monitor's image blacked out; when the monitor's image reappeared the phone buzzed again. This continued until I unplugged the phone. The whole setup is: a T410 running Windows 7 Professional; 4337 docking station; monitor attached to t... Read more

Hello, I have owned my Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop since August '05. I have kept good care of it, frequently using programs like Ad-Aware, Registry Mechanic, McAfee Anti-Virus, and Disckeeper. However, none of those programs seem to help this problem. Let me explain the problem: Initially, when opening up Counter-Strike: Source, between 20-40 minutes of play, my steam program (the program that runs CS:S) shuts down, then immediately following my computer automatically shuts down without any notice or any keys the user touches to prompt such a shutdown. This has been an absolute menace, and twice now my computer has seemingly been so corrupted that when I try to reboot my computer after letting it shutdown, passing an unusually slow Dell Inspiron introductory screen, I get a black screen with a small flashing white type cursor in the top left...this is the last straw...I do not even get a windows screen prompting, and I'm forced to cold boot my hardrive. Doing so at least 20 times in a short span, miraculously the windows screen loads then everything runs fine...until the next time when I play CS:S. Even then...just now in typing this to you (for a second time, since my computer restarted without even opening CS:S) my computer auto shutdown in the middle of running an Ad-Aware scan. To further help you with my problems, I have been noticing some bizzarre activity in my run/msconfig/startup command screen. For example, the files "dumpprep 0-u" and "dumppr... Read more

Answer:Devestating virus causing automatic shutdowns and computer blackouts

Hello RedGrant,

Busy forum with many requests, though your sense of emergency is understood by all the folks who help. No infection showing here though. The dumprep you keep seeing are the result of those errors - you will have most likely seen those "Send report to MS" messages about the same time on some. These are dumps of information to be made available for assessment to determine the problems, but require special tools and skills to use in any meaningful manner. Although no infection the log shows startups disabled through msconfig, so as this is not a "complete picture" let's take a different look here. If you have problems running this scan try doing it in Safe Mode (at startup tap F8 and select that from the list), but normal mode is the preferred mode for it.

Download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) to your Desktop. Note: You must be logged onto an account with administrator privileges.
1. Close all applications and windows.
2. Double-click on dss.exe to run it, and follow the prompts.
3. When the scan is complete, it will create two text files - main.txt <- this one will be maximized and extra.txt<-this one will be minimized on your Taskbar.
4. Copy/paste both logs back here please (they will also be located at C:\Deckard\System Scanner).

Make sure you notice the extra.txt second log that will show as minimized on your Task Bar, "Maximize" that and be sure to paste those contents here as well.

Okay, so on almost EVERY game I play, when I start it up, black screen, (Which isnt that much of a problem, i mean starting a game can take a long time.) and I enjoy it. I need to do something, check something, or do anything non game wise, I have to minimize. Well, here is where I get frustrated. I alt+tab, alt+delete, anything, even open up task manager, I get either a black screen, or a frozen screen (depending on the game) for about 30 seconds. Nothing I can do. After it is done pissing me off, my computer goes to desktop, or whatever, and then its fine. I go back to the game? Another freeze. I am running a Vista Home Premium x64 dell computer, with intel quad core, and nVidia Geforce 9800 GTX+ graphics card. (Im not exactly sure on how to fill out specs, so feel free to ask for anything you might need to know) Help would be great, I've been able to deal with this issue for a while but now its just unbearable.

Answer:Long blackouts / screen freezing while starting a game or minimizing it.

:X No one knows the answer to this?

win7- 64bit on Sony VPCEE31FX Vaio a couple years old.
using external Dell monitor successfully for a couple years.
Starting today, I get blackouts, about 2 seconds duration, maybe 2 per hour, and each time I get a Desktop Windows Manager alert in the Task Bar.
When I click View Problem Details, I get event: APPCRASH and Application Name: DWM.exe.

I did some searching and found a suggestion to run a SFC scan to check for any corrupted files. I did and it found no difficulties.

Today I also had two Blue-Screens come up. The messages stay up maybe 15 seconds, so I couldn't copy much. First one suggested running Memory Check, which I would do if I could find it. I searched my computer and found no Memory Check. I ran Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool and found no memory errors.

The second one said System Service Exception.

Not sure what to try next...........

We recently purchased some machines, docking stations and monitors for 2 employees in our office building. The machines are Precision 3520 workstations (32GB model), the docking stations are WD15's (k17a) and the monitors as shown in the title are U2417H monitors. The problem they've been reporting, is that the monitors will go black momentarily (maybe for 2-5 seconds) and they'll come back as if nothing happened. This is happening frequently enough day in and day out, that it is distracting them from their work. We've done everything we can think to troubleshoot the issue. We've done clean installs of the Dell approved nvidia graphics card drivers, reinstalled the Intel HD graphics driver, installed the monitor drivers (formally they were generic uPnP windows monitor drivers), updated the BIOS and other Dell drivers via the driver detect utility, updated the docking station firmware, switched out docks and cables (the docks they were using were swapped , changed settings on the monitor themselves, and even got a replacement machine sent out, which didn't change a thing. At this point, myself and the IT department feel we're going down the rabbit hole, trying everything we can think of to resolve the issue. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

My Setup: DSL 4500/500kbit/s to Router (WRT54GS+TomatoFW) to Win7 64bit PC

I'm tired of QoS not being able to regulate the downstream, because by the time it could do that the packets are always blocking the bottleneck anyway. It's logical but I don't like it. I'm tired of trying to limit the downstream by adjusting the upstream, involving alot of guesswork. I'm tired of mechanisms that do not allow instant internet usage, because first my router has to throttle back bulk traffic to allow my http requests through. I'm tired of trying to seperately identify Streaming Video, HTTP Downloads and Web surfing in the router via Layer7 filtering (which somehow does not work for me) and KB-Transferred filtering (which also won't work).

I know the ultimate solution to this but I don't know which programs I need for this. Here it goes:

I have to be able to "split my Internet connection" into 2 virtual connections (or something similar to that). Everything has to be happening on the Windows PC, NOT the Router, because routers cannot see enough (because of OSI Layer Modell). As I said QoS is also not a solution because it cannot effectively limit downstream. I have to coordinate the programs on the PC directly.

First Connection: X Amounts of Mbit reserved only for what I actively do: Surfing, Youtube, Gaming, VOIP, things I have my Attention on. This never gets used if I'm not actively working the Internet.

Second connection: Y Amounts of Mbit reserved for all stuff I set i... Read more

Answer:What fits my needs if QoS does not?

How about using a trick as if you have two pc's:
Use both wired and a wireless connection and configure each specifically for one of your above 'virtual'connections.
+... your question baffles me a little... I don't know what version router you have but.. are you saying QoS for Applications does not work?

So this morning my computer froze, forcing me to force a shutdown/reboot. When I turned it back on, it showed the attached pics. I have no idea what it means or anything. All I know is there's dollar signs in that gibberish, and that makes it important.

Answer:(Not sure where this actually fits)

Just looks like a regular run of CHKDSK to me. Windows is checking the integrity of your files and disk. Nothing to worry about imho. The dollar signs are just a representation of a hidden or administrative share.

I'm not sure if this is a software or hardware problem, but whenever I press the left shift it will enter a |. I think it is hardware because it is limited to the left shift. Anyone know how to fix it?

Answer:Idk if this fits here..

Probably a prob with the keyboard. You can try popping up the key and resetting it.

Hi, I have ThinkPad E550 running Windows 10 (no factory installed software is here, as soon as I bought it, I wiped the hard drive, put in SSD instead of DVD drive, installed clean Windows and downloaded the neccesary drivers from support page) and I bought Onelink Pro Dock. I installed the driver I found here, but when I'm using the dock, every few minutes, or sometimes even more often, something passes out.I have connected ethernet, keyboard + mouse, two monitors over DVI and DIsplayport, one monitor over USB 3 to VGA adapter and sometimes other stuff like phone os flash discs. Nothing is connected to the ThinkPad except But I have the following problems:- Sometimes, the video goes out. Both monitors on DVI and DisplayPort goes black for few second. Usually, audio over DisplayPort goes out too, but very often, it stays out when the video is back. Sometimes the audio on DP is back in few minutes, sometimes at next video blackout.- When I'm using audio jack, the audio goes randomly off and on.- Not so often, DVI video goes out for a few seconds, but nothing else. All other things (ethernet, USBs, even the video out on USB to VGA adapter) never went out. I have the dock for two weeks now, I hoped that the problem will solve itself after few reboots or windows update but nothing. Also, ThinkPad OneLink Dock Management process is using 20-30% CPU.Today, I took stopwatch and paper, this is what happend:In 3 hours, I experienced 86 blackout of both DVI and DP, when the vid... Antec Nine Hundred Case | eBay
im not sure what i have currently, but it says pavillion p6000 on the bottom. id also like to know if this case is better than what i currently have. any suggestions for a pci slot that has a lot of usb ports thats under $20? and a case that would be better than this one for the same or cheaper price? thanks in advance.

Answer:need help picking out a usb pci that fits my pc

As far as I know there are only two sizes of PC cards, full size and low profile. Low profile cards are I believe half hight. So unless you have a mini itx case a regular size card should fit. To plug the card in you'll need a matching slot, PCI or PCIe depending on what the card wants/is.
