Printer details missing and unable to reinstall

Question: Printer details missing and unable to reinstall

Unfortunately I am unable to print anything at present as for some reason my printer details have disappeared from the Printers and Faxes File in the start menu. If I try to reinstall my printer by clicking on "Add a printer" I get the message "Operation could not be completed. The print spooler service is not running."Has anyone any ideas on what I should do PLEASE?????Many thanks in Advance.

Preferred Solution: Printer details missing and unable to reinstall

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Printer details missing and unable to reinstall

Is the printer usb or other connection? Click on an empty part of desktop, press F1 and type print spooler in the search box then look at some of the links

I recently did a clean install of my OS and since I was still having issues with my computer, I went to the malware forum and went through that process as well. My computer was deemed virus-free but I am still having issues.
Right now, the main thing is getting my printer back on. I have a Canon Pixma ip6600d that was previously installed on this computer. (Dell Inspiron 580S - windows 7 64-bit).
I tried loading from the disc but it says it cannot install on this OS. I got an updated driver from windows update and went to the Canon website and downloaded the add-on for the 64-bit OS. The computer recognizes my printer - it's under Other Devices in the device manager but it will not print anything. In the "display print queue" it says "error - printing". I am trying to print a test page. when i run the troubleshooter, it says it couldn't identify the problem.
Yes it is plugged in, turned on and the properties say it is ready.

Answer:Unable to reinstall printer after clean install of OS

When you click on the Windows Globe and select Devices and Printers, is the printer shown under Printer and Faxes?

When you go into services, is the Print Spooler Service started and set to automatic?

Had to reinstall printer after a Total Recovery of PC. Now the printer display of APPs is different and now includes new ones but am MISSING  what I used to use which (as I recall) was an app that opened a screen to set up a print job: NEW ONES: 'Scan to eMail' 'Get More' with an arrow pointing down which does NOT respond to touch'Manage' When I want to just PRINT something the selections are ONLY BASIC paper sizes with no ADVANCED OPTIONS.  I tried the 'reset to default' for the printer display/apps/printer but nothng changed.

I have A Dell DHM desktop, and have been unable to install my HP printer (Model PSC 1610 All in One).  I read, in another thread, that All-in-One printer software won't download on Windows XP Service Pack 3, which is what I have. (Grrrr....!)The error message I keep getting is "The file 'hpzimc.09.dll' on HP cd is needed."  It happens regardless of what I do.  I have tried using my printer disc to install.  I have tried downloading software and drivers from the HP site, to no avail.  Everything gets hung up on this missing file.I tried contacting HP's "Live chat," but was unable to complete the process, as it requires a printer to already be installed!  (Again; Grrrrr...!)I attempted to contact Dell, but without an "Express Service" tag number, they were unable to do anything!  (There is no such tag on this refurbished unit, which was purchased as a gift on eBay.)My questions are:  Is there a way for me to acquire this file (safely) to get my printer installed?  What other options are there?  (Purchasing a new printer is off the table, as I currently have no income.)If I tear any more of my hair out over this, I may need referrals for a good wigmaker! I appreciate any help. Thanks,Kaligo

Hi All,

Basically i am looking for a tool to generate a list of all the printer, ip address and driver details on a server.

I have a 2003 print server with apporx. 100 printers on it the we have had issues with(driver related). We had a back up server with the same image on it but there were issues with it too. Hello and thanks for any help.I'm using a Brother MFC495CW and trying to print from a windows vista laptop via bluetooth or wireless.  The printer is getting the signal from the computer.  It has worked in the past.  I just replaced the black cartridge today.  I've tried multiple cartridges so the problem is not a defective cartridge.I've forced the cleaning of the printer heads more times than I can count and the three colors print fine in a test print but the black does not print at all.  The printer recognizes a black cartridge full of ink.Im assuming that there is a problem somewhere between the cartridge and the paper.  Either the head or the line that delivers the ink but I cant find any info on accessing these parts and either cleaning or replacing them.Thanks.

Answer:Details tab missing in properties!

You may want to carry out a virus scan, for which Malwarebytes is eminently suitable: Malwarebytes : Malwarebytes Anti-Malware PRO removes malware including viruses, spyware, worms and trojans, plus it protects your computer

Your user account may be corrupted so you could try creating a new account to see whether that has the same problem.

The Links details on my IE7 Toolbar have suddenly gone missing. The word Links is still on the left hand side of the space for the toolbar but it is completely inactive when I click on it or anywhere else in the bar area. Neither can I drag URLs to this area. Under Tools the Link option is ticked & Lock the Toolbars is unticked. Does anyone have any ideas on how this has happened & how it can be rectified?

Answer:Link details missing

If Lock Toolbars isn't ticked then you should have a faint vertical line to the left of the word Links. If you hover your cursor over this it should change to a double headed arrow and you should then be able to drag the links area out or move it onto another toolbar.

I need your help. First, today my sister told me that the house power outage and the pc shut down and when I got home from work I turn on the pc and I got a missing drivers. the screen that tell you what you want to do when you get inappropriate shutdown - safe mode, start windows normally, etc... screen. i have windows win 7 64 bit with sp1 retail. so I selected start windows normally, but I get a screen that tell me about a missing or corrupt file. \windows\system32\drivers\ndis.sys and status: 0xC000032 (hope i remember it right)

I recently got a laptop that came with 8.1 installed. After downloading an MP3 today, I wasn't able to update the details for it, yet I cant with everything else that I have. I tried using MP3Tag also, and it doesn't make the updates. All of the folder settings are the same for every file, but for some reason this one MP3 will not allow me to update the information (which is also causing it not to add in iTunes).

I've attached a screen shot to show one that is working next to the one that isn't. In both, the mouse was directly over the Title.

Any help would be appreciated.

Answer:Unable to update details on some MP3s

Hi JR00k and welcome to Eight Forums,
There is a simple fix for it:
First:check that the file is not open in another programme(media player...etc)
Second:You dont have enough permission to edit the file here is what should you do:
Stay there and open security tab then click the name of the current user you are logged in then click the edit button then check all the box then apply, ok.
You're done let me know if you need further assistance.

Originally when XP installed, for pictures, when File\Properties was selected the pane had two tabs: 'General' and 'Summary'. Now only the General tab shows in the pane. The Summary could then be expanded to 'Advanced' which showed all the meta data for the picture, i.e. details of the camera, exposure, f number, etc. This was very useful. The change may have occured when I included a Windows update. I have included all the Windows updates available for XP from the Microsoft site. Why is this second tab 'Summary' not now available? Any ideas or suggestions most welcome.

I have a Dell Inspiron E1505 with XP media center edition. sorry for the length of this post but i will describe everything in detail.

while trying to remove a virus, i tried to boot up in "safe mode". i then got the blue screen saying "your computer has been shutdown to prevent damage......STOP: 0x0000007E". i continuted to boot up in normal mode which was no problem, and did the msconfig command and chose options to force my computer to boot up in "safe mode" everytime. upon reboot, my computer crashed. i tried again, hit F8, and chose to boot in "normal mode", but this time it crashed as well. i think it was still trying to boot in "safe mode". i tried again and chose to log in with the "last known configuration that worked", yet that crashed as well, all of them with the same STOP: 0x0000007E error. rough, i was unable to log on to my computer in any manner at all.

i did some research and found out that this is an error when your computer had trouble with a XP service pack 3 install and this message appears when booting in safe mode. i decided i needed to either somehow get my computer to boot in normal mode or uninstall service pack 3. using a XP professional start up disk, i went to the recovery console. when i chose my C drive and hit enter, it asked me for an adminstative password. i had always left this blank so i just hit "enter" and it told me that my password was invalid. after more researc... Answer:Win7 Explorer file Details tab missing?

A Windows update may have changed the options for security or stability reasons. The effect may not have been their direct intention, but a result of 'fixing' something else. You can still get this information in Windows Media player (or what ever they are calling it these days) or in Real Player. You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane. This site is about helping people, lets keep it that way.

I have this problem with the vista details pane and I have not been able to find any solution. I have Windows Vista 32 bit Home Premium version. The problem is that:
1. My details pane is missing a lot of properties/tags . Only ones that are appearing are file date, file name, dated created.
2. When I go into a MP3 folder, same thing happens as I described in 1. Just the 4 tags appear and I don?t get any other tags that used to be there like artist name, rating, title, etc.
3. I cannot edit any Tag in the details pane. When everthing was working fine, I could go in the MP3 folder , I could edit the title, ratings etc. and Save it. But now I can?t do anything, the save button does not appear and the tags don?t go in edit mode.
Up till now I have tried the following solutions:
1. I have reset all the folder options in Vista by going to Folders/tools/reset defaults. (did not work)
2. After resetting the folders, I have also turned on the details pane option under Organize/Layout and the details under the Views. (did not work)
3. Under View, in the tool bar, I went to Customize This Folder and chose the Music Folder Option, All Items etc. (did not work)
4. Then on the Microsoft site, I found this solution ? Open Documents by clicking the Start button , and then clicking Documents., and click a file to apply properties. Right, so i've encountered something very weird which i've fixed three times but has come back, and this time the fix i did last time refuses to work!
Here's my situation... i'm attempting to play "Arma 3" a game on steam, but it keeps telling me i cannot shut it down (i need to do this to play and then start it again as theres no open Arma3.exe except for the one in the Details Tab in Task Manager
There you see it, it will not let me terminate it. I downloaded Process Hacker to attempt to shut it down through there but it refuses. Also the "BEService" you see slightly below is a part of Arma 3 which refuses to shut down as well. This all happend when my game crashed, i started Arma 3 on steam, all went fine until it told me that a "BattlEye" update had failed... i closed it and was unable to open it again due to it saying that it was already open. Which it apparently is according to Task Manager, but it is using nearly no memory whatsoever?
I've ran Virus Scans as i got told a virus might've taken Arma 3 as a name, i opened the file location and it directed me to the Arma 3 folder and not some sketchy folder.
Ive also attempted to restart my PC but the two applications still remain active.
Ive also deleted BattlEye and re-installed it through steam (this is what i did the last two times and this fixed it, also when i restarted my PC the last times arma3.exe closed and i was able to play) but this does not work anymore. Everytime my game crashes ... Read more

Just before my computer got unplugged (Internet wise), I had been unaware of a virus that must've been sleeping in my system. Recently, I discovered that this specific process, csrss.exe had been getting its grubby little fingers into literally all processes in my Win. XP SP2 system. (Specs of my computer's in my profile somewhere.) and recently, I had to reinstall Avast! Professional Antivirus...and have no way of updating it. (The virus database is two years out of date.)

I checked csrss.exe at this website link...

And here...

So my suspicions had been correct when I tried to kill the doggone process...(It instantly shutted down the PC the moment I killed it.) And it's been literally forcing the computer to go 100% all the time too.

I first figured it out when I began playing WMP... and it popped up now when I have no way to kill it now.

Any ideas on how I can kill the blasted thing, with the Library computers' help and some ingenious thoughts?

I have a Lumia Icon and vcards sent to me via text do not come through with all of the contact info that is sent. I've had several iphone users that I know try it and some info comes through but not all. Typically email addresses and street addresses don't come through. Hello I upgraded my BIOS recently (I believe from A04 to A06) because I felt it might be needed to support a CPU upgrade.  Problem is, the new BIOS adds no new features that I can see, and takes 10 seconds longer to boot.  Fastboot is enabled.  This is a problem, since I recently installed an SSD and this new BIOS appears to be doing nothing, and is getting in the way of an otherwise lightning fast boot.
What is the correct procedure for restoring the system to the BIOS which it shipped with?  I think I can remove the battery, but is there not a preferred method? Also, it is remotely possible, given the processor upgrade, that the old BIOS will not boot.  I would prefer not to put in the old processor, reinstall the new BIOS, put in the new processor... Decades ago, a floppy disk would have come to the rescue, I believe Dell has a procedure for installing a new BIOS from a flash drive if a system fails to boot, what is the correct procedure?
Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Hi, got a message yesterday on my windows 8.1 laptop saying my windows is expiring in a couple of weeks and I need to put in a product key to renew it. So I found my product key and put i tin and it won't work? It says it can't be accepted and to use another one?It was originally a windows 8 but I did the update to make it an 8.1.Anyone able to help?   Also where can I find the details to my laptop? Like serial number and stuff? There isn't a sticker underneath.

Answer:Problems with Y510P, windows expiring and won't accept product key, plus missing details.

It should not be asking for a Windows key if it was ONLY an update from Windows 8 to 8.1 Did you change the HDD, modified BIOS or installed 8.1 differently than going into "Update & Recovery"? Your Serial Number and Model No should be on the Invoice which Lenovo sent you.It should also be in the Final order email and the Lenovo Order Status on the website. Note it down, since I also couldn't find it on my laptop as a sticker.

I googled the problem and NOTHING!!!!! many information NO LONGER is displayed in my details pane in Windows Explorer!!!!!! song length is one of them gone missing (& total length if multiple files are selected) and I use that frequently!!!!! it ONLY shows basic information now such as artist, title, album, and genre!!! but total length is GONE!!! also MANY UNRELATED INFORMATION is now in the details pane for media files!!!!!!! mood of music has been added (never heard of that tag), song rating, and composer now have been added!!!! it even displays ALL THIS SAME INFORMATION for WAV files when it used to be ONLY file size and length for WAV files!!!!!!! WAV is NOT capable of tags so I don't know why Windows Explorer shows this information for WAV files!!!!!!

I'm new here and trying my best to abide by the posting procedure.

I have run ad-aware, spybot search and destroy, and cw shredder. They all delete some spyware/adware but always say some could not be deleted. I tried running them in safe mode but still couldn't deleted all of it. Every once and a while when I get online, a new window will open saying I may be infected by the "black worm" virus and it advises me to download their anti virus software. I'm not sure if this is just a trick, so I haven't downloaded it. The popups range from casinos to online shopping(dunno if that helps or not). My desktop looks blurry and the icons have a strange grey shadow to them as if they're selected(but they're not). My Mom has an HP laptop. She recently purchased a new HP printer and I have been trying for the last 4 days to get it to install/connect. I've been in touch with HP but the links they provide aren't resolving the issues.

First, using the CD that came with the printer: hangs up at around 85-90%. It doesn't not show up as installed. I copied the CD to the desktop, modified Setup.exe in CFFExplorer and Run as Administrator and it appears to completely install; however, when I go to Device Manager, it says no driver is found. I sometimes have the option to update and sometimes that seems to work but I can't access it through Add a Printer (which has the green bar run across the top, then pulsate and freeze).

Trying to install using the driver I download from HP results in no installing screen appearing but it does hang up in the background and the only way to stop it is to Restart. The same thing happens if I try to use HPs Wizard.

I've installed several HP printers through the years and not had this much trouble. That doesn't even include the dozens of times I've had to reinstall my own HP printer because of its contrariness!

Additionally, attempts to uninstall the old printer results in it hanging up/freezing soon in to the process, whether I try to uninstall from the Start menu, file or Uninstall program. I'm not even being able to get the Windows Updates to install - that process also just hangs up/freezes. FYI - I've not checked her machine in a while so there are ma... Read more

Answer:Unable to install printer drivers, uninstall old printer, update Windo

Hi columbia93, welcome to 7F!

Printers are touchy animals, when installing any printer you have to follow the install procedures exactly as described by the manufacturer.

This may be the root cause:

FYI - I've not checked her machine in a while

Not that you haven't been able to check it, but there may be an accumulation of problems on your Mom's machine that also are stopping the update process.

I am trying to find one of 7F's tutorials on improving performance of a computer, but it boils down to cleaning out all detritus that a machine can accumulate of a period of time.
I did find this but there is another one: Hard Disk Space - Free Up and Recover The first three options would help

Run Antimalware/virus scans, run a Check Disk then a sfc /scannow then try to uninstall that old printer driver, and if that works shut down the machine, and try to install the printer without the HP disk, when it looks, but asks if you have the disk say no and allow the OS to install what it has.
It is my understanding that HP Printer drivers already come with Windows 7.

But do the cleanup first and see if that helps.

I've recently bought a new laptop and have Windows 10 on it. I can't get my printer, a Canon Pixma MG4150, to fully work.Initially I just plugged in the printer. Windows would automatically install the drivers and it would succesfully print. However, it wouldn't scan. Therefore, I picked up the manual and read you should install the software on the cd-rom supplied together with the printer, before connecting the printer to the computer. So I uninstalled the printer from Devices, confirmed the printer is no longer listed under devices, and did a reboot with the printer disconnected from the computer (and turned off). Now I insert the printer's cd-rom and select to install the drivers from the menu that the cd-rom presents. This produces the following error message:"Printer driver is currently in use. If you are not using the printer driver, it may be used by other users on this computer. Exit all applications and printer properties and then try again. If you still have a problem, restart the computer and then try again."I don't know how to make this work. In the Task Manager, I don't see any applications that I suspect use the printer. Also rebooting and immediately starting the cd-rom, just produced the same error. Could it be that the operating system itself has the printer drivers in use... Any idea what to do?

How can I re-associate .mp4 files with video details displaying in the Details Pane? After installing the K-lite codecs pack, my mp4's all began displaying in the details pane as audio files (Album, Artist etc) and no longer displays the important video default details (size, frame height, bitrate etc). I assume it was because of incorrectly associating file types when installing the codecs (even though wmv's, avi's are still correct), so I uninstalled the codecs but the Details categories remain for typical audio files. I've exhausted The Google and I'm stumped... any help? (Win7, 32-bit with VLC as my default player) Thanks!

I just got a computer for free, a Dell Studio 1555. When I got it, it would try to boot, then come to a screen that said that bootmgr.exe was missing. Sometimes I got a message that said something like mpio.sys was corrupted or missing. I have a Win 7 disk, so I put it in and tried to repair the installation. Each time I ran it, it said that the repair had failed. I tried to reinstall windows 7, and It made it to the first restart in the process. It showed the "Starting Windows" screen, but the colors of the windows logo never appeared, then I got the missing bootmgr screen. I decided to install Ubuntu and see if that worked, and it did (I installed it alongside the Windows installation). It was Ubuntu 10.04. I thought, "OK, so i'll just use this as a Linux machine"...and I decided to go back and reinstall so that I could use the entire hard drive. It never worked correctly again. Each subsequent time that I installed Ubuntu, I was told something along the lines of "Gnome Power Manager did not install correctly" and got a slow and choppy Ubuntu installation. Tried to install 11.10, and it failed completely. I opened the Ubuntu live from my usb drive, and opened the disk utility. I now cannot format, reformat, partition, or delete partitions on the drive. Is all of this just a case of a hard drive on its last legs, or is there something else going on here?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Answer:Bootmgr.exe missing... mpio.sys missing or corrupted. Unable to boot

You should try and use the bootable Partition Wizard CD. It should show you something similar to the Windows Disk Management tool. If it works, you should be able to see all partitions, shrink them, deete them, extend them, format them etc.
Partition Wizard : Use the Bootable CD

If you haven't already, also try running a Startup Repair using the following tutorial.
Startup Repair

If you can't format anything, your last shot may be using Darik's Boot And Nuke (DBAN). This can be put on a USB which when booted, completely wipes every hard drive recognised. So be sure to remove any other hard disk device or drive.

For Windows 7, is there a list of the 'Details' available in the Windows Explorer folder view called 'Details' which has an explanation for each of them? Most of them are simple but some leave me scratching my head.

Answer:explanation of 'Details' in Windows Explorer 'Details' view

The "Details" which are available are those you see when a list of files is in "Details" view (as opposed to "Icons" or "Tiles" views. In "Details" view, depending on which column categories you have enabled, you are shown such things as filesize, file-date, filetype etc. If you then right-click any column header, you can choose to hide or show more information columns.I can't see how any of that can leave you scratching your head as it's no different to previous versions of Windows in that respect.

I have a Lexmark X85 all-on-one printer (copy/scan/fax/print), which I have been successfully running on Windows XP Pro, on a 40GB, 256RDR RAM, Pentium4 PC. The printer suddenly stopped working, displaying error messages when I attempted to print, so I uninstalled it completely and started from scratch, as if the printer were brand new. The installation goes well until the drivers are setup, whereupon I receive the error message "The argument is invalid". Upon attempting to finish the installation, I also get this message: "Operation cannot be completed. Either the printer name was typed in incorrectly or the specified printer has lost its connection to the server." Upon further attempts to reinstall, I also receive a message indicating somewhing wrong with the "monitor" (?) and another later one indicating "Error launching printtray.exe".

I downloaded appropriate drivers from the Lexmark website, supposing a driver problem, but this was unsuccessful. I also attempted to install the printer both with the Installation CD ROM and without, with no success. And upon the advice of a friend I attempted a Restoration through Windows XP Help and Support, only to have the computer inform me there had been no changes to the computer since the beginning of the month, despite my problem beginning just yesterday.

Help! Any ideas, anyone? I do not understand the error messages, and am unable to pursue the matter further alone.

Answer:My printer will not reinstall

If the printer connects via USB, unplug it from your system.

Perform an uninstall of the printer drivers and software. Make sure that there are no print devices listed under "Printers & Faxes" after the uninstall.

Than, since the printer worked from the software on the CD it came with, reinstall that. Once completed, plug the printer back in to your system, wait for it to recognize it properly. Check that it is listed under "Printers & Faxes". Before trying to print something from a program, right click on the printer and try printing a test page first. If that goes OK, try printing from other programs.

Good Luck.

Weird problem. I have an HP Photosmart Premium C309 that was a bit of a bitch to install on 7, but it's been working great for the last several months.

A couple of days ago it stopped working. I deleted everything from the print queue and tried to print a test page. Nothing. Stuck in the queue again. I deleted the job and clicked on devices and printers off the Start menu. No HP C309.

I remembered that the original installaion CD was pretty much useless, since it was not engineered with 7 as a choice. So I dowloaded the installation software from the HP site. Still a no go on printing - item stuck in queue.

I redeleted, and checked the Devices and Printers. There WAS an HP C309 listed, but it had (Copy 1) suffixed to the name. I deleted the printer and clicked on the 'Add Printer' tab on that page. I eventually got a message that the software for the printer had already been installed.

I reinstalled again, adn then tried to rename the printer - minus the (Copy 1). The system would not allow me to rename, saying that a printer with that name was already installed on the computer.

So now I look for help. I don't know how to delete a device that won't display, and I have no clue how to get this piece of s**t to work. HP wants to charge me an arm and part of a leg to help me Seems like if their software has bugs in it why should I have to pay them?

Answer:How to Uninstall / Reinstall Printer

You could give this a try:

With the printer on, go to Devices & Printers and Remove all instances of the printer.

Then click on the Microsoft XPS Document Writer to highlight it, and click on "Print Server Properties" in the top Bar > go to the Drivers Tab > and Remove any Driver listed for the printer.

Turn off or disconnect the printer from the PC. Then restart Windows.

Once on the desktop, plug in or turn on the printer. It should be Found and the Driver installs automatically. Try a Test Page.

If it does not install automatically, then redo the D&P removal process (less the driver part), disconnect the printer, restart Windows, then install the driver download for Windows 7. Connect the printer when prompted. Try a Test Page.

I have a Dell Dimension 9150 desktop computer, and I did have a Canon MPC200 printer attached to it until the printer died. I then bought a Brother MFC-215C printer/scanner/fax. It installed OK the first time but I noticed the computer had slowed, particularly opening things like Word documents.I searched Brother's website for an updated driver, but couldn't find one at first. I did find updated firmware which I installed - everything still OK. A few days later I found an updated driver for the printer on the Brother website and downloaded it. This was a driver specifically for the MFC-215C. When it was coming to the end of its installation routine I received an error which told me that I had chosen the wrong model at the beginning of the installation. This can't be true because the driver is model specific. Now the original driver on the installation CD gives me the same error. I have since installed the printer on two other machines - one running the same operating system (XP pro), and one running W98 - with no problems! This printer just will not install on my system no matter what I try.Any suggestions would be graetly appreciated.Phil J.

Answer:Cannot reinstall Brother printer

Have you tried running RegScrub or CCleaner? There are probably registry problems between the old driver and the new. Use these applications with care to remove any registry component affiliated to the printer, as well as using the device manager to remove the printer. After you have removed the components and drivers, re-install the original driver.

I?d like some advice from those who know more about wrangling with HP printers than I do.

I tried the usual Add/Remove Programs and I was left with a HP folder in C:/Program Files, a C:/temp/HP_Webrelease and a C:/Moved HP files. These were both HP files from the first installed HP Photosmart 2570 (which had been a successful installation) and failed installation files from HP PSC 1315 that I tried to install after the 2570 would no longer feed paper. I read through a bunch of older posts and it appears the 1315 installation failed because I had not gotten everything related to the 2570 off. Plus there?s a whole screen of Hewlett-Packard and HP registry entries under HKLM/Software when I run regedit.

I ran Revo Uninstaller (since I had seen it recommended here so many times) and it detected just HP Software Update and removed it. Did not touch any of those files I mentioned earlier or the registry entries. I then manually uninstalled all the HP files and ran CCleaner.

I then found the HP All-in-One Uninstall Utility and ran it through all 4 levels. It seemed to be getting rid of some things but I still have most of the registry entries I mentioned. Wondering if I?d gotten enough off to be able to reinstall the 1315, I looked through some more posts and found this thread: I also have registry entries like HKLM/System/ControlSet002/Enum/USB and HKLM/System/CurrentControlSet/Enum/USB.

So what do I do next? ... Read more

Answer:Uninstall HP printer then reinstall different one

Did you run the CCleaners registry tool a few times until nothing shows in the registry for removal as sometimes one old entry removed then opens up a few more for removal?

Check in Device Manager that any or all Printer drivers are uninstalled.

Check in this location C:\WINDOWS
\system32\spool\DRIVERS for any HP driver folder and files and delete them.

Follow #7 at Bruces page HERE

But I wouldnt delete those keys as they HKLM/System/ControlSet002/Enum/USB likely are your USB ports, the others in HKLM/software that are linked to HP Printer can be deleted, but I would advise backing them up before deleting just in case, easy option is to right click the folder key in question and Export it.

I am seeking your help please.

I recently updated from Windows 98second edition to Windows XP (service pack 1) to enable active sync to work on my windows 5 PDA - this part is OK.

However my attempts to re-install my HP 1010 printer fail. After the first attempt to re-install the printer using HP install CD the process stopped a fair way into the installation (after asking to switch on the printer on USB port) with the message "Spooler Subsystem App has encountered a problem and needs to close" - then undoing the partial installation.

The message now keeps re appearing, on start up and also at seemingly random intervals thereafter. I select "don't send" to clear each pop up message.

Now each attempt to reinstall the printer results in an earlier (in the installation process) message "The hp laser jet 1010 series Setup Program has encountered a severe error and will now exit. Restart your computer and run Setup again"

When I look at Control Panel/Printers + faxes/File/Server Properties it says "Server properties cannot be viewed. The print spooler service is not running"

Have you any advice to clear the recurrent error message, and hopefully to install my previously OK printer !

I'd do a search for "files & folder" titled HP. Assuming you don't have any other HP hardware, delete all hits. Also, go into the registry and delete all HP keys under "current user" and "local machine" > "software". However, if you've got other HP items, it gets difficult (unless you want to remove all HP software & reinstall everything).

It would not be necessary to plug/unplug...if the laptop and desktop were part of a home network and the printer were a shared device.

No device is listed as part of the computer...when it is unplugged/disconnected. That's just the way Windows works.

During the set up process I get a message saying that setup was unable to copy a file and 'press return to retry'. When I press return, sometimes the file copies, sometimes I have to press escape to get past that point. This happens about half a dozen times at different stages during setup. I have re-run setup several times and each time the files which windows can't copy are different.Eventually I get to the windows welcome screen which says setup will complete in approx 39 minutes. After a few minutes I get a message which says windows has been shut down to prevent damage to my computer, so I start again with the same result. Can anyone give me a clue about what to try next please?thank you,Johnxp pro is NOT an oem version.

I've been working on my In-Law's Toshiba laptop with XP Home SP3. I just spent over a week working with a very helpful member in another part of the forum cleaning dozens upon dozens of viruses & rootkits off the computer. I was at the Microsoft site & tried to run their Live One Care and first it required me to take McAfee off the computer & then half way through the install of the Live One Care all the IE windows closed. I didn't get any sort of errors, it just closed. When I tried to open IE again, I got an error saying it could not access it & I may not have permissions (screen shot attached) I uninstalled the Live One Care but still got the same error. So I uninstalled IE7 & tried to reinstall it. It runs through set up then tells me it didn't install properly & I need to restart & then follow the trouble shooting link it put on the desktop. I restart, but when I click on the link, I get the same error again. I read that if you already have SP3, you have to uninstall it before you can reinstall IE, so I tried that, but still get the same error. I also cannot reboot in Safe Mode. I don't have the slightest clue as to what to do next! PLEASE HELP!!?!?!

I read in another thread about files I can download to create a boot floppy from click here.I would like to reinstall the operating system on my PC. I have made a copy, on CD, of the partition it is held on. Unfortunately, I can't find any way to use it. When I access system recovery, it asks me which installation I want to use. the only one available is C:/Windows, the one that is already installed. Would the files mentioned in this thread help me to access the CD containing the copy or the partition on the hard drive.I have a computer I can download the files to but it doesn't have a floppy drive. Would it work from a USB memory stick or would I have to transfer the files to the other computer and make floppies

I installed FSX Gold Edition with the Acceleration Expansion Pack. I then installed the SDK for Mission developement. Upon following the tutoral, it said to open the toolbox. Well I couldn't find the toolbox, Thinking that the Acceleration pack was to blame, I unstalled Flight Simulator X, and was going to reinstall just Flight Simulator X itself. I get just the screen telling me to either "Repair" or "Remove" If I click the "Repair" button, it says that the program must be installed first. If I click the "Remove" button, it says thst it can't find a program. I then went and deleted everything out of my registry that had "Flight Simulator X or FSX in it. I still get the "Repair or Remove" screen. I need HELP. What I have is Windows Vista Home Edition Premium 64 bit with SP1. Did I miss something in the registry? Attached are screenshots of the attempted installation. Thanks for any help. Tim

I am trying to reinstall Photoshop CS5.1, but when on entering the serial number I get the following dialog.
"The serial number is valid, but a qualifying product cannot be found on this computer."
I have managed to reach "Adobe Live Support Chat", but was told that:
"Adobe no longer supported CS5 in any way whatsoever, and advised me to purchase CS6"
Naturally I was very annoyed at this lack of help. I asked if there was a download site for me to download a new file, and was told that:
"Adobe no longer supported CS5 in any way whatsoever, and advised me to purchase CS6"
From this I concluded that a script was being adhered to at all costs. I bought my copy this January and stored the download on an external drive, I am using the very same file that I originally used on the day of purchase. I know fine well that there is a qualifying version on the computer because clearly I have the file. The method of purchase, following advice from Adobe was to download an extended trial an then register it with the purchased key. No disc or manual was supplied.
I have tried downloading from reputable third parties, CNET, Softpedia etc, but all CS5 links are redirected to the Adobe CS6 website. The CS5 site has been taken down. Due to the purchase being legitimate, I would prefer not to download from any dubious torrent sites.
All help will be greatly appreciated, as the volume of photos that I wish to process is increasing daily.
Cheers all.

We've got an HP Officejet Pro 8000 printer attached to a Dell PC running Vista. We've got 3 other Dell PCs sharing this printer, all running XP. Two of them are working fine, but I'm having a real problem with the other one.
Basically, I set it all up the other day, and it worked fine. The next morning, after both the Vista machine and this one had been switched off over night, it refused to print. You can see the printer (set as default) in the printers folder, but if you try to look at the properties you get an error message "Printer properties cannot be displayed. Access is denied". If you try to print something, it also comes up with an error, eg tried to print a word doc and got this "Windows cannot print due to a problem with the current printer setup".
I used the add printer wizard to reinstall the printer and it worked fine. Tried rebooting the machine, and the same thing happened. Reinstalled the printer and it worked again.
Obviously I don't want to have to keep reinstalling the printer every morning. Has anyone got any ideas what may be causing this, and how to fix it?

While trying to delete a pair of print items in printer que, I accidently deleted the HP Desktop D2680 printer. When I attempt to reinstall the driver from its original disk, the dropdown options I get are for a file (that the system says I no longer have) or the A: drive ( which also says I don't have this file). Please contact me here or at my email address @ [email protected]. HELP!

Here is the full-feature software driver package (version 14.1.0) for that printer and which is for all Windows versions.

Here is the section on how to install/uninstall it.

I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit and recently started having a lot of issues, all at once. In the space of about 2 days, printer stopped working, my computer slowed down dramatically (from a boot time of about 1 min to more like 20 mins) and began freezing/ crashing at random intervals, and sometimes booting to a black screen.
However, I seem to have managed to solve the computer issues, but the printer issue remains. I have an HP PSC 1402 All-In-One printer which, until now, has worked without a problem. Withtin the last few days, it's gone from problem-free to rife with problems. An example of the typical scenario is as follows (including unnecessary but possibly useful preamble):
-I plug in my printer to the computer (it's a USB one and the cable is very short so I have to only connect it when needed)
-The usual 'installing Device software' icon appears in the bottom right corner, as it does with every USB-connected peripheral.
-A red circle with an 'x' appears, at which point I click it, only to find the error 'HP PSC 1400 Series ....... X Failed'
-I go to Devices and Printers and click 'Add Printer' and an error pops up stating that the operation cannot be completed because the print spooler is not running. It asks me to restart the spooler or restart the computer. (I've tried both, but for purposes of explanation, I'll continue with what happens in the first instance)
-I go into the Services menu and right-click the Print Spooler and click 'Start', at which po... Read more

What is going on? I continually find my printer reinstalling. I now have at least 7 copies listed, and just tried to print, only to have it give me an error message that NO printer is installed! I have had this printer for the life of the computer and have not installed a new OS or anything to cause this problem! Please help. It is frustrating and currently, unending!

Answer:constant reinstall of printer---yeek!

Turn the printer off and disconnect it from the PC....restart the PC and see what happens......then uninstall all the printer programs and turn off. Re-connect the printer to the PC and turn on...then start the PC.

I have a Dell laptop with Windows 7 as the OS. We have a Canon printer (iP4500) in my house that I connect to wirelessly. Laptop is in one office, while printer is in another room. Every time I turn on my laptop, I need to remove and then reinstall the printer. If I don't, I always get an error message that says "An unknown error occurred while printing". After I remove the printer and then reinstall, it works fine. Its a waste of time and frustrating. Anyone have any suggestions?

HiI am running Windows XP Home edition. I have a canon BJC-3000 colour inkjet printer that I connect via the parallel port. Each time I boot up the 'New hardware detection' screen comes up and the computer tries to install the printer. I then get an error message stating that the installation has failed due to an 'Overlapped I/O in operation' and am then told that the printer may not work properly. The printer then works 100% perfectly and will even print out the Win XP test page. It also appears in the 'Printers window'Can anyone tell me how to stop the printer trying to reinstall at each boot up? I have already removed the printer once from the hardware setup and it reinstalled, again working fine but still tying to reinstall at the next boot up.John

Answer:Installed printer tries to reinstall every boot up

Could be a driver problem. Have you checked Canons website to see if they have an updated driver available?

I have Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop, Windows XP Pro.Laptop will not boot up, so I am following instructions on Dell site here What could be more simple I hear you cry.....When I get to 'dos' screen I get the prompt  C:\> , I think I need C:\WINDOWS>  - is this correct? How do I do that?I tried CD \WINDOWS - but I get message 'access denied' - (there are no passwords on the computer)? help, I am sure tis must be easy to do

Answer:hal.dll missing - need to reinstall

try typing:  cd windowsinstead of cd \windowsedit: my appologies, after pressing "R" to get to the recovery console, press "1" and enter to select what Harddrive you wish to access.  Then if there is no Admin. password simply press enter.  You will then automatically be at C:\Windows>  You then need to change to the root directory by typing cd \ and pressing enter.  That's it, up to about half way, follow the rest of the instructions here: be sure to click on the Windows XP button to correctly select which Operating System you are trying to fix

i am using windows service pack 2 ,my hp printer is missing from printer folder.i try to add printer tool but it is not i have reinstall(upgrade) the windows.then printer is seen in the folder and able to print.but after restarting the system it is again missing.

Answer:Printer missing from printer folder

Hi ravindrankv

Not exactly sure what you mean --- when you say you have to reinstall/upgrade Windows to fix a printer problem. That's not usually necessary.

Just go to the Hp website ( and download a driver for your printer from there, and install it. It should stay installed.

If the printer isn't directly connected to your computer, but you access it through a network -- it might not show up when it is turned off or disconnected.

If your computer shows many signs of instability or unusual behavior, make sure to scan for malware: your computer could be infected.

Best of luck
. . . Gary
