Free Software/Code To Password Protect A Website

Question: Free Software/Code To Password Protect A Website

I've been hunting high a low to find some decent free software or the code to an able me to password protect a website i'm working on.I'm looking for something that enables the user to register first before the Admin grants access and allows the user to gain full access to the site.I've googled but can't seem to find what i'm looking for. Is there anything out there? If not for free, what would be the most suitable paid for software that does the trick? Have used coffeecup, but that does not allow the user to register their details first. Thanks

Preferred Solution: Free Software/Code To Password Protect A Website

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Is there a way to password-protect AVG 8 free ... or otherwise prevent it from being shut down? There is a person in my house who insists on shutting it down, saying that a firewall (which I also had to password-protect) is more than sufficient, and it's driving me crazy. We've had viruses and trojans aplenty over the years, and that's *with* an antivirus program' but I simply can't argue this person into seeing the value of having one. Help and suggestions welcome!

Hi,
I am trying to create a Macro in Microsoft Excel that unprotects a worksheet with a specific password, makes a minor change to the sheet (ie types "66666" in cell A1) and then reprotects the worksheet with a specific password.

The code below works but does not use a specific password to reprotect the sheet.

Sub protectchangeprotect()
'
' protectchangeprotect Macro
' Macro recorded 12/04/2007 by Aon
'
ActiveSheet.Unprotect
Range("A1").Select
ActiveCell.FormulaR1C1 = "66666"
Range("A2").Select
ActiveSheet.Protect DrawingObjects:=True, Contents:=True, Scenarios:=True
End Sub

Help changing the code so it uses a specific password would be much appreciated.

Thank you,
JP

Answer:Excel Maco code to protect with a password

Hi there, welcome to the board!

Just add the password syntax to your code. And no need for selecting...
Code:
Sub protectchangeprotect()
'
' protectchangeprotect Macro
' Macro recorded 12/04/2007 by Aon
'
ActiveSheet.Unprotect Password:="password"
Range("A1").Value = "66666"
ActiveSheet.Protect Password:="password", DrawingObjects:=True, Contents:=True, Scenarios:=True
End Sub

Do you guys know of any software (hopefully free) that I can use to encrypt/password protect the files on my USB key? I know some of them come with this type of software, mine did not.

Thanks

Try that one out (investigate it carefully first) or do your own google search... there are tons out there...

Or wait for someone here to vouch.... but come on.. experiment!

Hey guys, I'm looking for a web filtering program that I can set restrictions on internet content by "type" categories, as well as band direct pages from my children.

I can't find any, can either of you be of some assistance?

Answer:Looking for Free Software to Protect Kids from bad content

Doig a search of "free parental controls and internet filtering software" will provide you with a host of offerings that apply to family filtering.  I do not know any free programs myself. The one that I have heard the most of is called "Safe Eyes" and for a time was promoted on the Dave Ramsey Radio program  It costs under 50 per year but would be a good investment I think

I have owned Acronis for years but with every update it gets less reliable.

I just installed Macrium free edition and went to clone my primary drive (C, OS,) and it warned that the target drive would lose all data on it. Is that really necessary? Wipe the drive before copying over to it.
I dont mean to trash Macrium it seems like a great piece of free software but erasing all the data from my target drive wont work for me.

I need a program that will produce an exact copy that I can access if disaster should strike, I dont need incremental or differential backups, I dont need individual folder backups, I dont need anything but a dependable program that will clone my complete drive. I like that Acronis will do this with an existing drive without disturbing the data on the drive and I also like that I dont need rescue media with it, on startup I just press an F key and it automatically boots into the program. Its just become unreliable.

Is there a better alternative?
I'd even pay for this peace of mind.

I have a San Disk USB Micro Cruzer 512MB keychain/pen drive. The software that came with the drive doesn't prevent users from accessing or viewing the data, it encrypts the data instead (which renders the file useless, but makes the file take up more space).

I'm looking for something that prompts the user for a password before the directories are displayed. Any ideas?

Answer:USB pen drive password protect software?

Not gonna happen. That would require software to be installed on the computer, which can't be guaranteed (IE I put your USB drive in my PC).

File encryption is the only solution, AFAIK.

Hello. I'm an admin for a small network at work. Some people want to lock their folders so that only them can access them. They can see them, but not enter inside.

I know they are various methods this is done and one of the easiest is just putting things in a RAR file and putting a password on it. I also tried some software that locks folders but I didn't like how they work.

What I want is simply something that will make some folders I specify accessible only by entering a password-as simple as that.ie: you double click the folder, and you will be prompted to enter a password. So, only those who have the password can enter.

Please tell me of a program that can do this or something very similar to it.

Many thanks,

sram

Hello there!I've just bought a couple of teeny tiny little 8GB USB flash drives, and I'm pulling my hair out trying to find some free (or very cheap) software to enable me to password-protect individual folders on them. What I'm *NOT* looking for is anything that encrypts the folders' contents (the stuff in them isn't 'sensitive' and the fact that there are hundreds of small files makes encryption software a pain in the bum).I've spent hours and hours and *hours* trawling the internet, finding dozens of programs that claim to be free - only to discover, *after* I've installed 'em - that they're 'trial' versions of software costing $30 or more.I want something very simple:a) password protection on foldersb) something that installs its own little program on the USB drive so that I can take it anywhere and plug it into anyone's PC and be able to instantly access the filesc) something free - or very cheap (a tenner at the most, if that's possible)d) something that doesn't bother encrypting the files and folders, cos that's just overkill for me.Anyone have any suggestions? All thoughts very gratefully received! Thanks in advanceMarkxx

Answer:Software to password-protect a USB drive...?

Oops, sorry - forgot to say that I'm running XP service pack 3, if that helps! I have recently been infected with a fileless malware. I have run a scan with ksc and it reported some memory detection. So,i run a scan with fully updated avast free and emsisoft eek but they didn't find anything. Finally, i have to scan with zemana and only after it detected and removed a fileless malware, ksc was able to give my system a clean sheet. Does kaspersky and zemana the only one to protect against such attacks? I need a free tool to protect my system against such attacks. The detection by zemana was "trojan poweliks: fileless malware". I don't need any whitelisting software and i also sincerely think that even they cannot counter such attacks.

Does anyone know any good software that can help me with this.

Answer:A software to password protect and disable copy but....

You'll have to Google search for such folder-passwording functions. And, more than likely, every time you want to play something, read something, edit something, etc. within that password-protected folder -- you will be confronted with a pop-up asking [again each & every time] for that password. Make sure your backup/restore routine can actually backup [and if ever need be: restore] such a password-protected folder.

The solution is to not let anyone else use your administrator account.Create a new password for your own admin account and keep it secret. Now create a "Standard" user account for other people to use. I want to know if there's a software that makes your mouse and keyboard with security. Like have a code or password for each of your device so its locked and nobody can interfere or something. If u know what i mean. I have both Logitech thought they had it once if u remember but guess not anymore

Answer:Is There Mouse and keyboard security software or password code

I know for their Wireless keyboards you can, but you need to have the Logitech software installed. You can secure your wireless keyboard connection using the steps posted here: http://logitech-en-emea.custhelp.co...my-s520-mouse-works,-but-my-keyboard-does-not

It allows you to have a secure encrypted connection between your keystrokes (keyboard) and receiver (computer), it prevents eavesdropping over the wireless connection.

Note: This does not prevent a keylogger from capturing your keystrokes.

Protect Forever Password (PFP)
Try our password protection software that allows you to hide your passwords against hackers !
How it works?
This software has a local database for any computers that is installed.
The password generated or defined by the user is encrypted in this database and this un-encrypted when the user want this password.
The user create the password [Create table in the local database]
The password is then encrypted in real-time with a new encryption method created in real-time for this password.

Soo :

Password ---> Stored as (ex) Md54%?9fpdmz?d^$~#dFpQ#@2$Q*Z&*DmqO)"dmAo (for 8 length password is about like 200 length in store (encrypted))
When the user want this password for exemple, to connect to facebook :

The software decrypt this password. Not so easy. The software decrypt 50 fakes passwords in same times. So the hackers can't see where the real password is, because the encryption is not at 1 time but in 5 + 2-perchar

Soo, there is it that the hacker can see :

qpz
pAo -> Uncrypted in real time to : pass (exemple) <-- first 3 chars of the real password (exemple)
iAo <-- Uncrypted in real time to : lolilol - Fake password 1 (or 10 , just an exemple) 3 letters
iQm <-- Fake again
PdA <-- Maybe 3 letters from the real password ? ;D
Xk7 <-- Maybe Fake?
DmP <-- Maybe?..
...
...
500..+ times

So the computer gets multiple datas Fake and Real.
But, the real password is saved in store of the case (the ... Read more

I have a website that I made with Front Page 2000.

What I need now is a free website hosting site that supports Front Page extensions.

Also the hosting site must not add add banners to my site/pages. Or at least the banner should be as small as possible at the top of the page.

I have been searching different hosting sites, but most do NOT support Front Page extensions on their servers.:dead:

I need to find a free hosting service that supports FP 2000 extensions.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I want to password protect the backups on a Lenovo R500 laptop for school use and I have set up a password in R & R Advanced settings - but when I try to backup or restore again it never prompts me for a password. At what point should the password prompt be triggered? How can I trigger it? This is fairly urgent as I have a whole batch of machines which I need to set up to the same profile.

I design websites using Joomla and host them with BlueHost.com. I want to learn how to scan my files for code from hackers. Can you give me some safe ideas and/or links to do this?
Thank you

Answer:how to scan/protect website files from hackers

Greetings, plainjane8...

I write my own code and pretty much know if something's been added/altered, so I can't cast any light on the use of Joomla. However, you could periodically submit your url(s) to VirusTotal which will give you a good idea about whether your code contains any nasties.

I thought it would be a good idea in keeping with the overall goal of this site to start a thread to give people a list of legal and secure sites for downloading free or dirt-cheap movies, music and software/games.
I believe this would helpful in terms of not just telling people not to visit/support pirating websites,
but to also give them other alternatives so that there wouldn't be a temptation to go there anyway
(And also for people like me that Don't want to steal, but also don't want to pay more than I have to)

As such, some of the music may be considered "pirated" in countries with longer copyright periods.

That is a good question.
When I think about it Hulu does have movies.

Many of the Movies channels can be watched that way.

Hi,
I would like to protect my macros codes by a macro - after a certain time.
I know I can protect it before, but I want to do it after a certain time...
The reason is when the user clicks on a button, so the document is finalised and it's ready to be sent to an external client.

I tried to delete the macros, but when I write the code, my anti virus dects a virus and it will not work!
Here is what I've put:
Application.OrganizerDelete Source:=ActiveDocument.FullName _
, Name:="AutoClose", Object:=wdOrganizerObjectProjectItems

Any ideas what / how to do?

Thanks,

Fred

free.grisoft.com <-- AVG Anti-Virus - small footprint, fast automatic updates.

www.download.com <--- Search "MalwareBytes Anti-Malware" - same, small, easy to update, free and very powerful.

www.download.com <--- Search "SuperAntiSpyware" - additional protection - cause Spyware sucks.

All these applications I've used for several years now, they're all free, and they're all you need (as long as you've already gotten a firewall or use WF) to safeguard your machine. The only thing the free version of AVG lacks is a real time residential shield which you can achieve by installing the AVG toolbar (although I never have - I just run scans on my machine on a regular basis).

A lot of people will argue different applications and there are LOTS of them, but these are the ones I've used over and over again in my 10 year tenature in the computer field - they're the one's I have installed right now, and the ones I'll continue to utilize in the future.

If you have any questions getting ahold of this software, let me know and I can post direct links from download.com.

Hello everyone. I'm A+ certified but anti-virus is not my strong point. I'm cleaning a computer for a friend of a friend. They are complaining of their computer going slow and having pop-ups.

The details I have gathered so far:

Windows 7 operating system
primary user has no password (forgot to check if account was in the admin group)
users use internet explorer 11 mainly

What I have done so far:

1) Ran the Avira Rescue System (scan takes several hours on this machine so I could not be present for it's finish)

2) Examined the problem. Appeared that the users were getting redirected to phishing websites (wvd. proresync. net specifically) as well as internet browser advertising popups caused by the proresync website. I noticed that there did not appear to be any pop ups from navigating the computer itself.

3) Ran Spybot S&D - First immunizing then scanning. Spybot found some 1500 entries. all but 13 of them could be fixed. I looked over the 13 entries, I noticed they all contained a reference to "Search Protect". Let Spybot attempt to remove the 13 entries after a reboot.

At this point I decided that to continue I needed to research Search Protect and the proresync website.

4) Left the Avira Rescue System running to see if it could remove what Spybot left behind.

From some Googling I gathered that the website was an advertising website that hackers could direct traffic to and that Search Protect was a virus... Read more

Hello otarsus:

If your system did not have any unresolved malware issues from any type of previous MBAM2 scans, and your laptop has the correct date, time zone and time, then, since you already have performed a Clean Re-install process, it would be helpful see three diagnostic logs posted in the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Help sub-forum.
Please establish membership via Create Account and then read the following and individually attach the 3 requested logs in a post to the above sub-forum: Diagnostic Logs along with a copy/paste of your post's narrative from above.

I want to know how I can password protect IE7 so that anytime the IE app is called to load, it will ask for a password. Correct password = internet access, incorrect password = no internet access. There are no Windows users setup except for Admin (and I would rather not do that either), so protecting folders etc. with that is not an option.

I have looked extensively for a 3rd party app or add-on, but cannot find anything. Strange, as I would think this would be something that many people/families would like. Just something simple to block IE only. Freeware would be nice, too.

Thanks in advance!

Answer:How to password protect IE?

Click Tools
Click Internet Options
Click on the tab Content
Underneath 'Content Advisor', Click Enable
Then click on the tab General
Under 'Supervisor Password click Create
Make you password then click Ok.

Running XP Home. What is the easiest application to limit or deny access to certain folders

Answer:Protect With Password

Couldn't you use the Administration method to lock them?Other than that, I know that there are alot of FREE programs that will lock your folders for you, and there are some that will simply make them invisible, where no one can see them at all.But I'm guessing that you should be able to do it right now, if you have Administration rights on the computer.

It's really important that I backup some information on my harddrive, and so burning some cds is the ideal thing to do.

The main reason that I'm backing up is in case my computer would get stolen. I

'm looking for some basic password-protection or something like that. Nothing complicated, I'm not trying to hide secrets from the government, or something such that would require really heavy encryption. Just something to prevent, the average Joe to stick in my cd and see all the files.

Question: Password Protect

Hi,

I believe this is my first post here, so I guess I new.

I'm curious to know, if a utility, third party software or anything that would accomplish, prompting for a password before any download takes place (mainly from the Internet) exists? Multiple people use my PC at any given time, and I want to know what goes on here. I don't want someone accessing a game site or something, where they have to install a plug in or what not. I just went through hell with my core duo running like an 8088. Not to say it came from that, I don't know, but if I can rule that out the better. I've seen programs that will password protect files/folder, but I need to prevent downloads, and creating an administrator account seperately, did not seem to work as I thought it was suppose to.

Any help or information would be greatly appreciated,

Thanks

StuCazz

Answer:Password Protect

Any internet usage means some kind of downloading. When you open a webpage, a bunch of images and text is downloaded. There is no way for any program to tell the difference.

You may want to give the untrusted users very low privileges (down to guest level even) and allow them to use only the safer browsers like Opera or Firefox.

Maybe describe the situation a bit more. What kind of people are these and what are they using the computer for?

Question: password protect

When I got my computer some years back,I remember having to type in a password and my name (I think) to open Windows or to just enter the computer. I was thinking that you could do something to get rid of the sign in box and I did. So when i turn it on it starts up Windows.
Is there a password protection at startup I can install to prevent prying eyes from getting into my computer?

Answer:password protect

There is a BIOS password you can set that will not allow the system to boot up until the password is entered, so it won;t even go into Windows.

You do this by entering the Startup when your system is just starting to boot up. Usually you will see something along the lines of Pres F1 to enter Setup or maybe it'll be Delete, or something else. In the BIOS setup, you will be able to find the Security section that will allow you to enable the password, and set what the password is.

One word of warning though, don;t lose that password!!

In IIS open the properties sheet for the folder or file you want to be secured and go to the Directory Security tab. Microsoft Internet Explorer (version 5 or later) has an AutoComplete feature that helps you
fill in Web-based forms. If the feature is enabled, each time you submit data in a form, the
information is encrypted and stored on your local machine. The next time you encounter a form
field with the same internal field name, IE tries to complete that field automatically. As
soon as you type a letter that matches the beginning of any recorded value for that field, IE
displays a list of possible values from which you can choose. To see all saved values, you
press the Down Arrow.

The Internet Options applet in Control Panel lets you turn AutoComplete on and off and clear
all its recorded data. It doesn't, however, let you clear form fields selectively or view the
stored data. This issue's utility, AutoWhat? 2, fills the gap. With AutoWhat? 2, you can view
what's stored for each input field name, delete incorrect values, and preload the system with
additional values.

AutoWhat? was originally released as a PC Magazine Extra utility in November 1999.... Read more
